Intel Turbo Boost Technology

Question: Intel Turbo Boost Technology

I understand what Intel Turbo Boost technology is and how it works.

What I would really like to know is "....does it do what it says on the can...." In practice does this technology really work seamlessly in the background as your computing demands vary depending on your current needs?

I am currently considering the purchase of a computer with an Intel® Core™ i5-4200U Processor that is rated 1.6 GHz and 2.6 GHz with TurboBoost, incorporating a 3 MB cache. Some of the work that I do is as mundane and low-usage as Word or Excel and a 1.6 GHz processor is more than adequate. But much of the work that I do is graphically intensive and I expect that at 1.6 GHz the processor will fall over but at 2.6 GHz it should be just fine.

In the real-world of hands-on use is this Intel Turbo Boost technology the answer to vastly different workloads such as that described above...

Q1. What is the MAXIMUM Turbo Boost technology for i5 760 2.8 Ghz without overclocking the CPU? below are my hardware specs.
Q2. Example: An application needs 3 Ghz clockspeed to run smoothly.

Will i5 760 @ 2.8 Ghz convert to 3 Ghz?
Specs:

i5 760 2.80 Ghz
Mobo = DH55PJ
4 gig corsair ddr3
GTS250 1 Gig ddr3 256 bit
2 TB Hard Disc.

I need a good simple answer Q1 and Q2.

Tnx!

Answer:Intel i5 760 @ 2.8 Ghz Max Turbo Boost Technology

Max Turbo Frequency 3.46 GHz

The CPU automatically steps the multiplier based on load and number of cores used:

Up to 1 core used at 3.46 GHz. On CPU extensive apps, expect to get the 2.93GHz speed, as all 4 cores will be used. This is of course at the stock 133MHz BCLK.

Did a clean install on my Vaio laptop (VPCF11LFX) of Win 7 64 bit Ultimate. Before I had a program under Control Panel/Program and Features called Intel Turbo Boost Technology Driver. Now I don't. I can't find out what this program is or what it's purpose is. Is it even necessary as my laptop seems to be running fine. I found the latest version (I think) and it seemed to load but when I checked, it didn't show up under Programs and Features. Any info would be helpful.

I saw this driver posted over at Station Drivers for Oct 22nd.
I read a little about it at Intel's website that its for Core i7 (which I have), but when I try to install it I get an error box that my hardware is not supported.

Just curious if anyone knows anything about this driver and/or why I may not be able to install it.

Thanks in advance....

Hello all this's my second post for help on this site, while looking around the net for more unnecessary driver's to disable, I stumbled across something interesting.

The topic relate's to the I/i series processor's and it's turbo boost driver, when reading the thread I noticed one of the commenters saying "Newer I series processors do not need the TB driver, its built into the processor now.", that really piqued my interest, seeing as I use one these I/i series processor's on my laptop and always figured that the Turbo Boost Technology Driver would be a necessary software component to have so my processor would be able to initiate it's "safe overclocking" function that made me decide to purchase a machine with a "I" processor in the first place.

The commenter also claimed that the 2nd Generation i7 series for sure wouldn't need to utilize the driver for turbo boost to work anyway. I just happened to be using one of the second gen i7 processor's and was wondering if I could disable the aforementioned driver and still utilize "turbo boost" as apparently turbo boost was already "Built In" to my processor, and doe's not require Intel(R) Turbo Boost Driver to function, typing this just make's me dubious and confused about the commenters claim, doesn't "Built-In" refer to the driver itself, or was the commenter getting at something else?

This's the link to the webpage I found the info on; What is the "Intel... Read more

I had to reformat my laptop in an attempt to get the ATI drivers working instead of the DELL video drivers.  In doing so I have come to the realization today that I didn't reinstall the Turbo Boost Technology.  My laptop is supposed to be able to go to a turbo mode at 3.06 GHZ however this isn't occuring so what this gaming laptop is meant to do it cannot.
If anyone has ever encountered this or something similiar involving the installation of this technology please let me know what you did so I can try it.

My Satellite L655-11J temp used to be in full load of cpu 75 now it is about 80~85 maybe because of the hot weather I don't know

I disabled Intel Turbo Boost Technology and now its high value in full load is about 68~69 and the laptop is not hot at all, and I didn't notice any difference in the performance, so you should try it if your laptop is getting hot

My question is there utility to disable it through windows?

null

Answer:Satellite L655-11J - disabling Intel Turbo Boost Technology for heat

> My question is there utility to disable it through windows?

Usually this has to be done in BIOS.
But as far as I know Toshiba provide a tool called Toshiba HWSetup which can be found in All Programs -> Toshiba.
This software allows you to change some BIOS settings running Windows system.

I?m not quite sure if you the ?Intel Turbo Boost Technology? options are available in HWSetup Utility but you can check this? otherwise you will need to change the settings in BIOS

I'm having a problem with this driver in Windows 7. When I view my devices, there are exclamation points on these:

1) Intel(R) Turbo Boost Technology
Manufacturer: Intel
Location: PCI bus 0, device 31, function 6
Device status: This device cannot start. (Code 10)

2) Microsoft Teredo Tunneling Adapter
Manufacturer: Microsoft
Location: Unknown
Device status: This device cannot start. (Code 10)

I tried to troubleshoot thru Windows 7 by re-installing the drivers of both. However, both installations failed. What seems to be the problem with my system.

What should be the effect of these "troubles"? How will I resolve these issues?

I have an X220.  I see on power settings that Intel Turbo Boost is enabled but the "Lenovo Turbo Boost+" consistently shows disabled unless I go in an manually enabled.  Before you ask . . . I have researched this online and did check BIOS and other settings and think I have everything enabled that should be for the turbo boost function. Does the turbo boost (which I associate with the fan coming on) come on only when needed?  Or should there be a setting I enable so that it is on all the time (or at least more often).  Admittedly I don't tax my machine too hard at the moment. X220.  4GB Ram, W7 Professional, 64 Bit. I am looking now - Intel Turbo Boost Enabled.   Lenovo Turbo Boost+ Disabled. I word searched the X220 user guide as well and saw no information on the difference in the two or really anything else.  Check the communities as well for this. Thanks for responses in advance.

Answer:Qosmio X500-14n upgrade to 8GB 1333 MHz & How to Turbo Boost Technology?

> Are its normal and safe or must change it to 1066 MHz??

First of all memory speed depends on the chipset. The speed has to be supported by front side bus (FSB).
For example the FSB would support may 1066Mhz but the memory 1333Mhz. In such case the memory would be clocked down to 1066Mhz.
Also the usage of different modules is not risky but the faster module would be clocked down to the same speed of the slowest module.

> i had downlout the program Turbo Boost Technology from toshiba support no.TC70070700L and when i install it...its say... this computer does not meet the minimum requirements for installing the software???

Your notebook belongs to the Toshiba European series. So you have to use the drivers from Toshiba European driver page. There is an driver for the X500 PQX33E series: Intel Turbo Boost Technology v 1.2.0.1002

The Intel Turbo Boost Technology automatically allows processor cores to run faster than the base operating frequency if it's operating below power, current, and temperature specification limits. So you don?t need to do anything? its an automatic process?

I was poking around in the Device Manager yesterday (Windows 7 x64 Professional) and noticed that, despite installing the latest drivers for my Y560 from Lenovo's support site, I would still getting a problem: System Devices --> Intel Turbo Boost Technology Driver"This device cannot start. (Code 10)" I've tried rolling back the driver/reinstalling and nothing seems to help. I've Googled and come across similar problems but none that have been resolved. Anyone else having this problem? Anyone successfully address it? I've started keeping an eye on my CPU via CPU-Z and Intel's Turbo Boost Monitor and it appears that Turbo Boost is working... at least, as far as I can tell. (For example, the clock multiplier jumped from x7.0 to x13.0 when I booted up a game, just to see if it was working.)

Hi all, I just got my T410 with I7-620QM. My problem is that the Intel Turbo Boost is not working. It was working before I update to the latest BIOS. How do I know this? the Intel Turbo Boost applet does not show any spike, even when i'm doing video conversion. Intel Processor ID Utility also gave me an Expected reading of 2.67 Ghz and Reported reading of 1.19Ghz. I was trying to google this problem and downloaded an application call ThrottleStop. The funny thing is that after I ran this app, the Turbo Boost started working, Intel Processor ID Utility gave a Reported reading of 3.06Ghz (the max with 2 cores). I rebooted and the Turbo Boost does not kicks in until I run the ThrottleStop. It seems that when windows 7 boot, it forgot to turn on Turbo Boost or something like that. Can anyone helpe there, thanks in advance. Nick  Update,  I found out that the turbo boost will only work when the battery is plug in. I usually work at home and plugged in, so I took out the battery so that it will last longer. Can someone explain or verify if this is normal? Thanks

Answer:Intel Turbo Boost not working

I believe the answer is that with a 65W power adaptor and no battery, Turbo Boost is disabled. With the 90W power adaptor and no battery, Turbo Boost still runs. Due to the excellent battery charging on a Thinkpad, leaving it is generally an acceptable practice as it only charges when it drops below around 90-95%.  I.e. typicallly it is never charging the battery.  You gain the benefit of not having problems during a power outage too!

Dell Latitude E6420 is my laptop with Windows 7 Enterprise. Turbo Boost is enabled in BIOS but is disabled in OS according to AIDA64. I managed to install Intel Turbo Boost Monitor but it says that Turbo Boost is not enabled. Although i still see standard speed but i also see Energy Saver appears when CPU runs at less than standard speed.

What is interesting is that Turbo Boost gets enabled in OS only when SpeedStep is enabled as well in BIOS. This slows down CPU to ~700Mhz and stays there no matter what. Enabling\Disabling C-State did not do anything and there is no multiplier.

Intel Chipset Utility is latest version and i did not find any Turbo Boost driver, nor any service in Administration.

Turbo boost only activates when you need more processor power. Download CPU Z and look at bottom left corner, that is your current speed, If you put your CPU in a stress test like prime95 this number will increase because of the extra power needed

I was wondering why Intel Turbo boost never kicks in, it says with turbo boost my cpu can go up to 2.8 ghz, but it always stays at 2.53 whenever I check on the turbo boost monitor

Answer:Intel Turbo Boost Overclocking Not Working

On tasks that are other than gaming (e.g. web browsing, encoding videos), does your Turbo Boost activate? If so, your CPU temperature is probably hot during gaming, and by design when a certain core temperature is reached during load (around 80-85 deg Celcius for example), Turbo boost deactivates to reduce heat.

So who actualy did try check temperature while cpu is at max work with turbo boost?

On mine it can go till 75C at least and i consider it prety hot,
before you ask - no its a new laptop with 2 month lol Aspire 7750G/ Intel i5 2430M 2.4ghz
(Turbo Boost till 3.0ghz) also use a base akasa helix cooler.

I decided to disable Turbo Boost wich wont pass trough 55C under max workload,
whats your opinion on this? im prety sure that anything higher than 70C is crushing CPU eventualy.

Answer:Intel Mobile i5 Core Turbo Boost Heat

I'm not a laptop person but it looks to me you have 2 choices. Better cooling or leaving Turbo Boost off. 75 C is to hot. Make sure you laptop is in a location where air can get to it. Also they do make separate laptop coolers you can use.

Hello guys, I bought my new Y580 2 weeks ago and I'm happy with the notebook so far. But in some games, which especially need a strong CPU, I had really bad frames per second. So I wondered how that could be with intel turbo boost (which should give me 3,4ghz if I remember right). So I started to google how to see if Turbo Boost is enabled. First, I installed Intel Turbo Boost Monitor. The program keeps telling me, that the max performance is at 2,4ghz. So it doesn't look like Turbo Boost is enabled Second, I installed Intel Processor Identification Utility. In the list I can't find anything about Intel Boost Technology. How come all manfucaturers include a copy of Intel Turbo Boost in their driver downloads section but Lenovo doesn't? Is it crucuial for the CPU to properly overclock? I mean, does it also contain some sort of driver in addition to the monitoring app or what?

Answer:Why no Intel Turbo Boost Downloads for Lenovo Notebooks?

Intel turbo boost is enabled and working on y570. From what I've noticed, in heat dissipation mode it is always enanbled until CPU reaches 90 degrees, then it disables for minute or two and that usually returns CPU/GPU to 80-84, and then re-enables again(it doesn't start throttling, it only disables turbo). IMO, it's quite reasonable behaviour, 90 degrees isn't too high temp for these CPUs/GPUs. If you want, you can monitor cpu freqs/multipliers/temps via many utilities, I use hwinfo32 for it.About drivers - afaik windows/macOS and, I think, linux support intel turbo boost out of the box, so I don't think any drivers are needed to control it.Edit: it seems I was right. A bit more info about turbo boost . The first paragraph says that no additional drivers are required for all major OS.

Toshiba stated that Qosmio X500-134 with the standard clock speed of 1.73GHz with the intel processor can get a clock speed of 2.93GHz with intel turbo boost.

I have downloaded and installed the intel turbo boost monitor widget while running loads of applications at once and still turbo boost does not start or work :S,
There is no feature to enable this in the bios which I have the latest version 2.60,

I would like help thanks.

Answer:Qosmio X500-134 - Intel turbo boost issue

Turbo Boost activates when only one Thread/Application requires a lot of CPU resources. If you run multiple applications all at once, Turbo Boost will not run at full speed due to power consumption limitations.

My laptop (lenovo IdeaPad Y570 (08622KU), comes with an i7-2630QM and when I bought it, the description said that it had Turbo Boost, from 2GHz w/o to 2.9GHz with. My problem is that the Intel Turbo Boost is not working. Is there anything that I can do to make it work? As I have looked through my BIOS and have not seen anything pretaining to it, not even CPU clock speed or nothing, which is wierd, and the BIOS is up-to-date as when I tried to flash my bios it said it was older than the one I already had.I have downloaded the Intel Turbo Boost Technology monitor 2.0 and I do not see it go above 2.00GHz when I start to play games. Is there anyway for me to get turbo boost to work?As I have downloaded Throttlestop and enabled Turbo boost through that way, but it is only temporary, is there any solution on how I can get it to work or get it to work through BIOS?

Hi, I just got  Aspire V5-591G laptop and after some digging to check how is everything working i found out, that I cant get intel turbo boost technology to work. I tried checking it with programs like Argus Monitor/ CPU-Z and my processor frequency stats at 2.3 max. Of course I used software to put maximum pressure on my proccesor cores, nothing tells me Turbo Boost is working.I also noticed that in Task Manager -> Resource monitor my max CPU Frequency stays at 94% and wont move higher no matter what. Yes i use Maximum Performance power mode and i use Windows 8.1. Thx in advance!

Answer:Aspire V5-591G Intel Turbo Boost not working.

Could it have something to do with throttled voltage to the processor? If I remember correctly, I read somewhere that some system processors are limited due to a voltage cap. Something about Energy Star compliant devices or something

I observed on my new Thinkpad x220 that Intel's Turbo Boost is not functional/active if the battery is not attached. I confirmed it with intels turbo boost desktop app and CPUID.I started noticing my laptop was inconsistently slow when web browsing...even if i had power management set to max performance. Hi all,

i own a Satellite L770/L775 18Q.

Problem is that the screen stays black, no HD reading, nothing happens
All started with when i installed the program intel turbo boost, shouldn't have done that i suppose.

It looks like that the bios is corrupt or something, i have no idea at all since nothing works , not with F2 either.
I know that my laptop is still under warranty but maybe it can be fixed somehow.

Please.

Greetings
Fred

Answer:Satellite L775-18Q - nothing works after using intel turbo boost

I doubt that an installation of an application, driver or software would cause such issue?possibly it?s simply a bad luck that this happened after the Intel Turbo boos installation?

So I would recommend a short workaround but if this fails, don?t lose any time and get in contact with an Toshiba ASP in your country to get this fixed under warranty conditions.

+Workaround:+
Remove AC adaptor and battery
Wait some minutes (30min)
Then press power button 30sec long
Now connect battery and AC adaptor and press power button to power up the unit.

Hi to all, I probably have (or I suppose to have) a problem with the Intel Turbo Boost Technology (on the follow ITBT) on my CPU (an Intel i7-720qm):
# In my Device Manager does not appear a device called Intel Turbo Boost Technology Driver, so I can't install the driver, but this is a minor problem because the technology seems to work in any case;
# If I run SuperPI (http://www.techpowerup.com/downloads/366/Super_PI_Mod_v1.5.html \\ ) (and only this application) and check the functionality of the ITBT with the gadget Intel Turbo Boost Technology Monitor (ITBTM) (http://downloadcenter.intel.com/confirm.aspx?httpDown=http://downloadmirror.intel.com/19105/eng/TurboBoostSetup.exe&agr=&ProductID=&DwnldId=19105& strOSs=&OSFullName=&lang=eng \\ ), then I have an oscillation between the value of 2,40 GHz and 2,80 GHz (even if this frequency will be reached rarely) and does not remain to the maximum frequency, that is 2,80 GHz. So my question is: is this throttling? or rather is a normal functioning for a processor of this class (I've never had a Core i7 CPu before and I don't understand if the ITBT is working normally)
Thanks in advance! ;)

Answer:Satellite A660-11M - Throttling Intel Turbo Boost with i7-720qm

Hi,

The CPU can only run at full speed if only one Core/Thread is maxed out.

If you run a program that uses multiple threads/cores at the same time, the CPU won't run at its highest speed for thermal reasons.

Turbo mode is good for games since most games only use one core/thread.

I've been looking for information on whether the G500 supports Intel Turbo Boost, but haven't had much luck. If it does support Intel Turbo Boost. how do I enable it? Also I've seen a few threads that talk about the G500 having AMD video card, my G500 only shgows Intel HD 4000. Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

What is the Processor of your system, G500 Supports intel turbo boots but that depends on the Processor that is installed.
   G500 comes with different Configurations,
Under the computer you'll find a sticker that indicates your system model type like this 59xxxxxx.
Check it out and post it back and let me check how your system was configured.

Here is the problem I have.

I am a "proud owner" of a DX58SO "Smackover" Intel Motherboard, which so far hasn't disappointed me, but I have some serious issues which are rather annoying.

1. Boot times are slow. Really. I Googled for a solution and I found others have been complaining of this as well. Seems like DX58SO is a notorious slow booter.
2. My Razer Naga mouse never gets detected properly. Who knows why, it's just an issue I am mentioning for others who will find this thread after me. My Razer Anansi Keyboard works fine, though. Do figure.

Now, the main problem I am coming here for is to ask if Windows Ready Boost on Windows 7, which I already use to speed up my Windows will conflict with Intel Turbo Memory, which is supposed to also help speed up boot times. Is it really worth it to use ? How much gain will Intel Turbo Memory give me in regards to boot times ? Anyone got any experience with this ?

Just on a side note, since Razer Support have been very reluctant to answer this question, is plugging my Razer Naga mouse into a Powered USB Port going to hurt its extended functionality, like Macro Recording and Key Mapping ?

I would be very grateful for any input you can give me on these issues.

Here are my system specs.

i uninstalled the driver i orgionally installed, and that dident help at all and computer is on gaming/high performance power plan. any ideas ho to fix this?

Answer:Help with Turbo Boost

ok i think i figured it out. i ran a .bat search on my computer, and it went up to 3.07-3.2ghz BUT core 2 and thread 4 were Parked. i then ran 2 searches one for .zip and one for .bat, and both core 2 and thread 4 became unparked, and it locked at 2.93ghz. so i guess its dependent on how many active cores there are. is there anyway to change this so max is 3.2 no matter what?

Question: Turbo Boost?

Hi,Running a P71 with a Intel Xeon E3 1535M V6 Intel xtreme utility run result. The Turbo Boost button is grayed out and the first picture states that Turbo Boost max is false. Did I forgot something here? CPU is advertised @4.2 GHz

Answer:Turbo Boost?

You'll only ever get 4.2Ghz on a singe core turbo. The BGA (mobile, soldered) CPUs are configured with a turbo scheme where the active core count is inversely proportional to the frequency.  In the case of the 1535M v6 it's:1 active core turbo max 4.2Ghz2 active core turbo max 4.1Ghz3/4 active core turbo max 3.9GhzI very rarely see 4.2, but I see 4.1 pretty regularly. With all of the background processes going on and more and more applications being multi threaded it's hard to only tax 1 core and leave the others inactive.Hope that helps!

My new DELL desktop came with an Intel i7-2600 CPU @ 3.4 GHz w/ Turbo Boost technology. The specs indicate the CPU speed can go up to 3.8 GHz. I ran a few CPU speed tests and they were disappointing.

I monitor CPU core frequency with ArgusMonitor. When CPU load is at 100% on all 4 cores / 8 threads, I get an extra 0.1 GHz boost on each core (3.5 GHz instead of 3.8 GHz). That is by design, I think; I read somewhere that, if all cores are at top speed then Turbo Boost does not kick in. So I ran a test on one logical CPU. Still not getting 3.8 GHz -- maybe because the OS distributes CPU load over multiple CPUs even when the application only uses one core?

Is there a test that can demonstrate the full Tubo Boost capabability of a CPU? That is, one that results in ArgusMonitor showing at least one core/thread running at 3.8 GHz for a short amount of time? Thanks.

Answer:Turbo Boost -- what gives?

My Acer laptop computer came with Intel Turbo Boost Monitor. Check your Start menu Programs for an Intel folder. I can't imagine a name brand system not having this preinstalled. I have it visible on the desktop at all times.

On further reading of the specifications however, I find the following on the above laptop:

Processor Manufacturer Intel Processor Type Core i5 Processor Modeli5-3317UM Processor Speed 1.70 GHz Processor Core Dual-core (2 Core) Cache3 MB 64-bit Processing.

I am looking for some guidance as to whether this laptop will be as fast as the current desktop I now have and what the difference between a 1.7 GHz processor (with Turbo boost) will be versus the 2.50 GHz processor? I do not use my computer for games but for Word Processing and Spreadsheets as well as web browsing. I also do some video downloading.

I have not been able to find any user reviews on this laptop and I'm wondering if anyone out there has an opinion on this product.

Thanks in advance for any help,

I'm using a DX58SO with an i920. In the BIOS, everything looking like Turbo Boost and Idle has been enabled to allow for full use of all these features. Yet, if in Windows I use the PerfMon and check C3 Transitions or C3 Time, I get zero. There's a tool called TMonitor which seems to tell me my CPUs (all 4) are running at around 1.6 GHz when idle. The CP frequency seems to increase when I do something, but there are still no C3 Times or Transitions. I'm wondering, is the Turbo Mode not working or is the system even continuously throttle down? how do i know if turbo boost is on?

Answer:turbo boost tech

@ltipton1? You can check in the BIOS. What CPU do you have installed??? Your specs say you have this CPU installed. 2nd generation Intel Core i7-2630QM Processor 2.00GHz with Turbo Boost Technology up to 2.90 GHz    If you can just check to make sure. REO

Hello, I have Acer Aspire v3-571 laptop. I upgraded my CPU from i3-2310m to i7-2630qm. In fact everythig works fine except turbo boost. It should boost to 2.9Ghz sometimes...In fact, I have installed Turbo Boost_Intel_8.0.0.1262_W7x64_A driver for it. However, I am unable to install turbo boost monitor (Turbo Boost_Intel_2.1.23.0_W7x64_A).When I am trying to install it says: I have tryed to change power plan from balanced to high perrformance and visa versa.I have tryed Win 8.1 x64 with latest drivers and Win 7 x32 with Win 7 x64 drivers. Same problem. Moreover, when stressed CPU-Z do not show frequency >1998Mhz.My BIOS is v1.13. Maybe not enogth power? I am using 65W supply. But its temp is normal.

Answer:v3-571 turbo boost not working

After some time of thinking, I managed to solve this problem. In fact, some time ago I updated bios to 1.13 when I was using i3-2310m. After that, installed i7 and TB was not working. So I tryed to update BIOS again to 1.13 when I have i7 and it is working now  I have no idea, that BIOS is so smart that enables or disables features according to hardware.

Does Turbo Boost work / Enhance Memory performance when you have a SSD Installed in Windows 8.

Finally upgraded to a SSD and was wondering if one of my spare 16 or 8 GB Flash Drives I have laying around would do anything in turbo boost? Currently have 8 GB Ram with a i3 Core Intel Chip in a Samsung Laptop.

Answer:Turbo Boost in Windows 8.1 with a SSD

I believe you mean ready-boost. An SSD is generally faster than a thumb drive. That fact, and Ready boost isn't much help on a PC with sufficient ram would indicate that you aren't likely to see any performance gains with it. I use it at work with a real fast thumb drive only because my machine only has 4 gigs of ram. Does it help? I still don't notice any gains. Haven't tested or anything.

Hi all,
My L321x is installed with windows 10 but i am unable to get it to turbo boost or im not even sure if this particular model has turbo boost.
Processor Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-2637M CPU @ 1.70GHz, 1696 Mhz, 2 Core(s), 4 Logical Processor(s)
Ive seen online that this model is supposed to get 2.8ghz when on turbo boost mode.

Answer:XPS L321x No Turbo Boost?

The processor does support turbo boost.  Does the system correctly sense the AC adapter (and are you on AC power when trying to get the system in boost mode)?  F2 at powerup to check the status of the AC adapter.
If the AC adapter shows unknown, the system will run as if on battery -- i.e., no turbo boost.

Hi, I have an E430 with the top-of-the-line i7 quad core. Before, when turboboost was enabled and used, the fan will go really loud and pulse (lets call it turbospeed) (while the turboboost is going on/off). But now, the fan never goes to turbo speed. It only goes to high and turboboost doesn't work. I know this because I used the intel turbo boost technology monitor. how do i enable/fix this problem? Thanks!

Answer:Turbo boost not working!

How do you have PowerManager set up? If I recall correctly, some configurations options in PowerManager will disable TurboBoost. Also, if the computer is being operated in a very warm environment then there might not be enough thermal headroom for TurboBoost to kick in.

Hey, this is my processor: http://ark.intel.com/products/81015/Intel-Core-i7-4510U-Processor-4M-Cache-up-to-3_10-GHz supposedly goes to 3.10GHZ with turbo boost. I use my computer without the battery, only connected to the plug, and for some time I noticed that my processor only arrive to 2.57GHZ(even in stress), and then yesterday I put my battery in the computer and that's when I noticed that after all my processor reaches 3.10GHZ, is that normal? (i have my battery settings on high performance).

Answer:Processor turbo boost

Why run without the battery to begin with? Its dangerous to run a laptop without battery. Reason why is because dip in power will cause it to crash and this can corrupt the HDD or and some SSD's when the power dips. Laptops are best run with battery in them because the laptops battery when powered off the wall acts like a UPS backup power source.

NotebookCheck just reviewed the P50. They liked it. However they noted the speaker pop (discussed on this forum) and they reported that the Turbo Boost (on their unit) was not working most of the time. They guessed that this was a "configuration" problem. (Nonetheless they still rated the P50 at 88%.) I would like to get a P50 but will wait until these bugs are straightened out. My question is, how will we know when these bugs are fixed? Flycoop

Also, NotebookCheck marveled at how difficult it was to upgrade the P50, referring to the need for extra (expensive) hardware like cables, etc. - which has already been discussed in this forum.Flycoop

Hello,I have the X220 tablet, had to get a new hard drive... thus all the utilities had to be reinstalled. Upon reinstalling the power manager, I noticed that the turbo boost+ button and the intel turbo boost indicator were not there. Is there a driver I'm missing? If so, I can't find it for the life of me... any help would be appreciated.

Answer:Turbo Boost+ missing

The button and indicator are only present if Power Manager is in "basic" mode.

I'm about to buy the 15.4" T61P, and I'm wondering if, from a technical perspective, it makes sense to get 3GB of ram and the 1GB turbo boost, given that the operating system doesn't recognize more than 3GB of RAM.  I don't know how turbo boost memory is addressed, so I don't know if its a problem or not.  Will a 3GB system be noticeably improved with turbo boost?  Thanks! Matt

Answer:RAM and turbo boost question

turbo memory causes a lot of problems and isn't worth it in many users' experiences.   just go with 3GB as it's plenty for both XP and vista in most cases.

Hi.
I have a 7 year old Studio XPS 8000 running on an i7 860 at 2.80 GHz. I have been informed that this CPU has a feature called Turbo Boost which will increase the clock speed to 3.46 GHz when needed. I would like to see the performance benefit when running Flight Simulator. I have checked using CPU-Z, and the clock speed remains at 2.80 GHz when running Flight Simulator. According to my online investigations Turbo Boost is enabled through the BIOS. I have gone into my BIOS, and there is no reference to it at all. My BIOS is Dell Inc. A01 dated 11/08/2009. I am aware that there is a BIOS update available (A03 dated 03/11/2011), but the Dell drivers page states that to use it I need to "download the file and copy it to a DOS-bootable USB flash drive, then boot the system to the USB flash drive and run the program". I have no idea what a DOS-bootable USB flash drive is. Is this imperative, or is it safe for me to run the BIOS update file from my desktop, as various Youtube videos suggest? And of course the important question is whether this BIOS update will give me an option to enable Turbo Boost? Or is there another reason why this feature is not available? In case it is important, my OS is Windows 7 Home 64 bit.
Thanks for your help.
Adrian

Answer:How to enable Turbo Boost

Your CPU may not support Turbo Boost. Even if it does, if Dell didn't enable TB in BIOS, there's nothing you can do.
There's been only one BIOS update, from A01 to A03, for this system. And the only thing reported for A03 is: Fix intermittent show error message Alert at checkpoint D0 issue.
So if you don't get this error message, there's no point updating to A03.
You can enable Hyper-Treading in BIOS A01, if not already enabled. But HT  may only give you a small improvement, assuming the software you run is coded to use HT.

Hey all, Recently I reformatted my Thinkpad X220T i7. Ever since, the Turbo Boost has been enabled and I can not turn it off. Even if I move the bar in the Power Manager all the way to the right, the CPU, Turbo Boost is still enabled. I tried looking in BIOS but I do not see an option to turn it off.  To fix this, I went into the Power Options and went to Processor Power Management and changed the max speed to 99% and that turned off the Turbo Boost. But I would like my laptop to go back to normal where I can just press that Fan Button in power manager and then slide the bar all the way to the left. I am updated on all drivers, software, and BIOS settings. Anyone have any suggestions?

Answer:Turbo boost always enabled. Help.

Hi,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

Intel Turbo Boost is very useful in certain situations, especially if you?re doing ?heavy? computational work. Intel Turbo Boost Technology is usually enabled by default. Once enabled, Intel Turbo Boost Technology works automatically under operating system control.

I doubt the only method for disabling turbo boost is the one you have performed.

Best regards,
Mithun.
