Fans turn on, lights blink and then turn off/on repeatedly.

Question: Fans turn on, lights blink and then turn off/on repeatedly.

I can't turn my computer on. The fans and lights turn on for a second and then turn off. a few seconds later they'll turn back on and then turn back off. I've had this computer for 4+ months now, i built it myself. it recently started doing this but i'd just turn off the PSU (Power Supply Unit) and turn it back on and it woould fix it. now it doesnt fix it anymore. i've re-slotted the RAM (Random Access Memory) and pushed it in firmly, but that hasn't done anything. i've tried different power outlets and pushed everything into the MOBO (Motherboard), i havent messed around with CPU (Processor) because that's just a pain in the a**... i was wondering if there was anything else i could do before having to take it into a local repair shop, lol.

as for my computer specs

CPU (Processor): Fx-6300 AMD
GPU: R9-270x AMD
RAM (Random Access Memory): 8GB Ballistix sport
MOBO (Motherboard): ASRock 970 Extreme3 R2.0
PSU (Power Supply Unit): Corsair X500 w 80+
Case: Rosewill GALAXY

Preferred Solution: Fans turn on, lights blink and then turn off/on repeatedly.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Fans turn on, lights blink and then turn off/on repeatedly.

First, I would unplug everything that isn't necessary. Everything external except for the keyboard and monitor. Internally, just leave the CPU, RAM and video card installed. See if it turns on. If not, you might try and test the power button. Disconnect the power button from the mobo. If the pin headers allow for it, use the reset button as the power button. If not, you can use a flat head screwdriver to power on the computer (cross the two pins for the power button with the blade of the screwdriver). If you do this, just be very careful. Touch only the power button pins and nothing else! You could easily damage components by touching the screwdriver to the wrong thing.

Some motherboards have a power button right on the board that you can press to power on the computer. I looked at a pic of your board and didn't notice one.

If that doesn't do it, plug the power button back in. You might try and play around with the RAM. I don't know if you have 2 or 4 sticks of RAM, but try and boot the computer with only one stick of RAM at a time. If there's a bad stick, you'll find it through this process of elimination.

If none of the above works, then it might be a bad PSU.

You can try a new  RAM stick. What you describe can be: Anything overloads the PSU, or a failing PSU Bad memory in the low region. BIOS  can't run without it. Bad CPU, or heat sink not in placeDisconnect the HDD and the DVD drive. (Power off, of course.)Power on. Does it  show the  BIOS?

I have a bit of a strange issue with my computer. Forgive me if I'm a little too descriptive, but I'm not sure which details are relevant and which are not for such a problem. First, the specs:

Model: eMachines T2984
Operating System: Windows XP Service Pack 2
Processor: Intel Celeron D Processor 340, 2.93 GHZ, 256K L2 Cache, 533 MHZ FSB
Power Supply Unit: Bestec Model: ATX-250-12E REV: P7
Motherboard: I can't tell, but it appears to be an Intel motherboard by the number of Intel labels on it
RAM: 512 MB DDR SD originally, added 1 GB a couple of months ago
Let me know if you need anything else...

Yesterday, I got home from shopping around 1PM, and I tried to start the computer. I pushed the power button, and nothing happened. I checked all of the cords, and they were all plugged in. Not knowing what else to do, I opened up the case to see if there was something obviously wrong. The only thing that I noticed (other than a bunch of dust) was that the power supply unit was still hot. I shut the computer down about 5 hours earlier after about 20 minutes of use, so it seemed strange that the power supply was still hot. I unplugged the computer just in case there was some sort of fire hazard.

At this point, I called a friend who suggested that the problem might be with the motherboard or the power supply unit.

A few hours later, I plugged it back in to try to get it to work. As soon as I plugged it in, the entire unit suddenly started "running" by itsel... Read more

Answer:Computer Doesn't Turn on, Fans and Some Lights Turn on Automatically

I would suspect that the Power Supply Unit (PSU) is going south. If you have a spare one laying around, install it and see if the problem goes away.
You can buy a new, better PSU from Newegg for about $40.00. I have used a Thermaltake 430 watt in one of my machines for some time now and it works well.
You will have to check the size of your PSU to be sure a new one will fit into the eMachine.
Here's the page with that PSU on it. It's the last one on the list.

My laptop was fine one moment, but when I returned to it the screen was black and wouldn't turn on. I checked power adaptor and it is definitely working and the green light is lit. I even tried another power cord to no avail. I took batter out & put back in and still wouldn't start. I took battery out, unplugged cord, held down power button for at least 30 seconds then put battery back on and reconnected power supply but still won't power on. I tried powering on without the battery in with power cord attached and still nothing.
When battery is in and you first plug in power cord the light for the power indicator blinks blue then the light for the battery charge blinks then nothing else.
Anyone have any idea of what could be the problem? I need a place to start. What do I start by testing or replacing?? Please help thanks!

Hi Rodeoqueen13,
I would suggest you reseat a few components, like memory, hard drive and optical drive and see if that makes a difference. In the link below punch in the system service tag or express service code and you can access the user manual for removing and reseating components. Please let me know if this helps.

I then restarted again and after that it would just turn off 1min after i start it. Only thing that comes on is fans and lights etc.
I changed to different ram slots just to try. And it starts and does not turn off now. But the screens dont come on, and everything connected to USB dont come on. Ant idea What the issue can be?

My computer recently refused to turn on. It had been working perfectly the evening before. I could not smell anything burning or hear anything irregular.

On the advice of Corsair, I bridged a green and black wire on the PSU's 24-pin connector to test whether it was at fault. Upon turning the PSU on with the two wires bridged, the fan began to rotate. So either this is not to blame, or the PSU only partially functions.

I cannot figure out what component is at fault, and replacing parts would be quite an expensive guessing game. The Corsair PSU has a 5 year warranty; however, they require me to mail it to California. Being in Australia, this is quite inconvenient and I would rather fork out for a new one. My motherboard, I assume, is out of warranty.

My specifications are as follows:
Gigabyte P35-DS3P Motherboard
Corsair HX-620 PSU
4xCorsair DDR2 6400C4 (4Gb)
Gigabyte 8800GTS 512Mb (G92)
Antec P182 Tower
Intel E6750 Core2Duo 2.66Ghz
Asus 1814BL 18xDVD+-RW IDE
Western Digital 320G SATAII 7200 rpm HDD(Primary)
Seagate 250Gb SATAII 7200 rpm HDD(Secondary)

I purchased/built it on the 19th of December in 2007

Thank you for any assistance.

I have a Toshiba Satellite (about 2 years old) and for the life of me, I can't figure out what' s going on.

Here's what I do know:

I used a multimeter to test the voltage of the power port on the connector that plugs into the motherboard. I'm getting 19volts which is what it's supposed to be at.

I have replaced the bios battery - nothing

I have held down the power for 60 seconds with it unplugged - nothing

I've tried running on a/c power only - nothing

Possibly the most confusing thing - I was fiddling with the network adapter (the internal pci one - not the usb kind) because after tearing it apart and putting it back together so many times I was trying literally everything - I switched out the network card. (I realize what little sense this makes) but it turned on. For only about 15-20 seconds but it turned on. 3 times. Then died before it ever fully loaded windows.

I assume there is something on the motherboard around the network card area that I touched that made this happen. But I can't for the life of me figure out what. It has been dead as a doornail for months. And something happened when I touched and swapped out the network card.

*total confusion*

If you wiggle the connector from the power brick to the laptop, does the charging light flicker?

Hi,My original problem was my computer randomly shutting down without any error messages or anything like that, as well as not being able to turn it back on until after a while, seems like the longer I leave it turned off, the more time I get to leave it turned on before automatically turning off. Anyways so I decided to open up my computer and take out the heatsink and everything else out, and clean the dust off. After fully dusting off the computer I plugged everything back in and now the fans, and lights turn on, and the power supply fan slowly spins before finally spinning after a while. I get no display or any usb mouse light. I tried taking out the CMOS battery and then putting it back in, Also I get no beep when I take out the ram. I tried taking out the video card and plugging VGA unto motherboard. Also the hardrive, it spins so dont think its a hard drive issue. When I took out the cpu it broke the thermal paste off, so I was wondering if that has to do with anything? Also I am thinking if it might be the power supply and me needing more then 500 watts. Answer:No Display-Fans and lights turn on

A quick read of your post indicates that you did NOT damage the power supply. You did something when you removed the heat sink. Check your work, but before you do anything, get some thermal paste. It does not cost much and is required when you take off the heat sink.

Hi, I would firstly like to apologize for not being able to update my user CP or tell you what my CPU/Mobo is. I can't get my computer to turn on and can't access the info.

This happened while I was trying to reset everything on my computer (because there was a problem with my NIC). I unplugged everything and replugged them into their respective places, and now I can't seem to turn my computer on. Everything was working fine (except the NIC) prior to my resetting. Now the problem is when I turn on the power, there would be a small delay before it would turn on, and when it does turn on, the lights in front of the computer (for the on switch) flash, the flashing intervals are synchronized with the rate the CPU fan turns on and off. The case fan is running constantly however and it is blowing out cool air. I have done some searching on the forums, and I have heard that it was because I unplugged the 12-20 wire that connects the power button (in the front) to the CPU. I unplugged this wire and the fans still turn on and off, except the front LED's can't flash. If anyone can help me, that would be most appreciated.

Answer:Lights flash, fans turn on and off, comp remains off.

You gotta do some more diagnostics.
But before I'll start listing them, I have one question:
Before you've removed components from your computer did you un-plug it from AC outlet? Cause if you didn't you may've damaged motherboard or any other component for that matter. I know it sounds silly but I'm just making sure.
Anyway, do as follows:
Unplug the power. Open the case and re-sit you memory modules and if you have to re-sit your CPU chip. Re-sit all your add-on cards (sound, video etc.) Make sure you re-install the CPU heatsink properly. Make sure that all cards and modules are snug and properly sitted in the motherboard.
Note! Dont' ever operate your CPU without properly installed heatsink, ever!
Plug it back in and the try to boot. If it's still no go:
Unplug it. Pull all the cards out except for the video card. Disconnect all your drives: hard drives, cd/dvd-rom/rw drives, floppy drive(s) etc. Actually disconnect everything from you motherboard except for: CPU, 1 memory module and video card (and of course power supply - make sure the 12V+ cpu plug is in the motherboard!). Plug in and power on. See what happens. If it's still no go move the memory module to a different slot; power on; still no go - pull the video card out: plug-in power on; still no go:
- Your power supply, motherboard, memory module or CPU has gone bad - you gotta swap them out with differnt component to test if this fixes the problem; star... Read more

Answer:Dell Inspiron 15R won't turn on ! No lights will turn on .

Hi PARTH511722,
What is the exact system model?
Are you using an original Dell OEM Adapter? When you plug in the adapter to the system, does the adapter stay firm or does it fall off easily? Is the adapter frayed? Is there any damage on the system? Could you test with another power adapter if possible? Could you try powering on with another battery?
Remove the memory and disconnect the HDD and try powering on the system with adapter only / battery only and check.
Does the adapter led stay on and stable or does it go off when connected to the system?
If the adapter led is stable when connected to the system and there are no signs of power, then the motherboard is suspected faulty.
Also, please click my DELL-username and write me a private conversation with the service tag and your Name for case records.
Let us know if you have any other queries.

Good day!

My cousin asked me to troubleshoot the problem of his desktop. He was telling me that it is not turning on. I was caught by surprise when i turned on the PC when suddenly I heard some kind of explosion. It sounds like a blown capacitor or something to that effect. I immediately unplug the power cord from the wall outlet. I checked all the capacitors and looking for any damage and fortunately it's all ok. I smell the PSU to check if there's any short circuit occured and there was no foul odor or something. I removed the PSU from the casing for and opened it for inspection. I found out that the fuse exploded and broke into 2 pieces. I don't bother to repair it but instead I bought a new 700 watts PSU.

After replacing the PSU I turned on the PC but i found out that the CPU fan will spin for half a second and turn off. Led green light is on but no post or beep sound. I did some troubleshooting and these are as follows:

1. I removed the motherboard from the casing and put it on top of the table with cardboard underneath.
2. Clean the RAM stick and tried on other slot.
3. Clean CPU heatsink and fan since it was clogged by dirt and replace thermal paste.
4. Replaced the CMOS battery and move jumper pin 1-2 to 2-3 for about 2 minutes.
5. I turn on the PC without the video card, hardisk and keyboard.

Motherboard: asus h81m-c
CPU: Intel core I7
RAM: 8gb

Btw, prior to the above steps, right after replacing PSU I just clean the RAM and turn it on but ... Read more

Everything disconnected from the laptop. Drive of DVD, HDD, CardReader, battery, Wi-Fi. Only the processor and memory (it is tested on other laptop) are connected. I connect the power unit. The indicator of connection of the power unit (the first at the left, color white) turns on.

We press the inclusion button, the laptop doesn't turn on. Only the indicator of connection of the power unit (the first at the left) is switched on and two indicators - the second at the left and the second on the right blink 1 time white color.

It most likely codes of errors. How them to understand?

Answer:Satellite L655 doesn't turn on - Indicators only blink

The second from left is Power indicator.
Normally this indicator glows white when the computer is turned on. However if you turn the computer off into sleep mode, this indicator flashes amber: one sec on two sec off.
Both while the system is shutting down and while it remains turned off.

The 3rd from left, battery indicator show the condition of the battery charge: white indicates the battery is fully charged, amber indicates the battery is charging and flashing amber indicates low battery condition.

The second from right seems to be an SD card (bridge media slot) indicator and this glows white when the computer is accessing the sd card.

For me it sounds like the motherboard is affected? and this means you need an help from technicians?

Okay. I've been having some problems with my laptop for a while now. I had a nice little line of broken pixels going down my screen. The thing was overheating. And it was going really slow. But, it wasn't anything major. It still worked.
Now, the thing won't even turn on. Wait, no, correction, the light for the power button turns on and that's it. My boyfriend just sat and listened to it and nothing else is running.
At first, I figured it was the screen, since it had been giving me problems for a while, but since my boyfriend's laptop went dead and is doing the exact same thing that mine is, I think it's something different. I think it's the motherboard.
Here's why:
Like I said, my boyfriend's laptop went dead too. So, his dad took it to Geek Squad and they determined it was the motherboard. So, now I'm fairly certain that's what mine is too.
So, my main question is, is there any way to fix it? Does it even sound like that's what the problem is? I'm not that computer literate, but I know enough to know that the motherboard dying isn't good. I'd just like some answers.

I have a G580 that will not turn on.  There are no lights indicating power.  Things I have tried:Removed power and battery, pressed power button several times, then holding for 30 seconds.Removed and replaced CMOS battery.Tested power supply, read correct 20 volts. This laptop is 1 month past warranty.  This is my first experience with Lenovo products for my company and not starting out well! Most repair shops want $100 or so just to look at it plus parts and labor to fix.  Any ideas or is this laptop dead.

Answer:G580 won't turn on, no lights

hi Huff,
Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!
You can check this manual on how to Open the computer up and have access to the parts
You can check if the DC jack recieves power by using your tester. and see if it can direct power to the motherboard.
It is possible that the DC jack is damaged thats why it does not give power to the Mother board

I have a y710 Cube and ran into an issue where I needed to install a fresh copy of windows 10.  To do this I contacted Microsoft, from whom I bought the computer.  (Two month old computer)  The OS iso they told me to use did not include the lenovo pre loaded software, which is not the end of the world I guess.  But the cube has LED lights on the front that I can no longer control without one of the pre loaded apps according to Lenovo tech support.  They told me since I did not contact Lenovo to reload my OS I voided the warranty and have to pay them $70 to do another clean install!!  That seems ridiculous.  All I want to do is turn the LED lights off.  Does anyone know of any work around or third party app that can turn these lights off?

Since it won't turn on, here's some info about it:
Toshiba Satellite E45t-B4204
Windows 8.1
6gb RAM
Bought it on August 11, 2014 at Best Buy. My serial is still under Toshiba's warranty, but I'm not sure about Best Buy.

I turned off my system and went out for a few errands. I come back it not turning on, so I thought I had to plug it in. I plug it in and the LED won't turn on, which means it's not charging. I tried my sister's adapter (Toshiba as well), and no luck. I couldn't find any reset hole on the back. It has an internal battery. I didn't get a chance to backup my files. I don't know how to remove the back cover to access everything. Is this a hardware failure? Will I be able to recover my data from the hard drive? Since this is an ultrabook, I think, is it connected to the motherboard? Am I screwed here? What should I do? Any help is greatly appreciated.

It's super annoying in the dark. Any way I can either turn them off or get the software needed to turn them off?

I was playing Sim City, with my power cord plugged in.  Suddenly, a window popped up very briefly that said my computer didn't have enough memory, and then the screen went black.  Then the power light and the red lights behind the keyboard started to flash periodically, like one flash-burst every five seconds.   I tried turning the power off, but everything continued flashing in the same way.  I tried unplugging the computer, and that had no effect.  I made sure the connections on the cord were okay, and they were normal (also, I remember that the icon showed it was charging while it was still on).  I tried taking the battery out and waiting 60 seconds and putting it back in, but that also had no effect.   What should I do?

Answer:fans turn on but nothing else

normally, I'de say that your Video card isnt all the way in socket. You might also want to re-seat the processor and RAM. If that doesnt work, Ide try to test each part by putting it temporarily in another system to see if it works.

Whenever i turn on my computer, it loads the desktop, then a few seconds after it has loaded, it automatically restarts

This happens in a repeated cycle

However, if i make it so the computer has a lot to load early on, such as clicking on firefox or media player a few times, it seems to load these programs, obviously very slowly, and then the computer does not restart itself. IS this something to do with the computer being too busy to "think" about restarting?

I searched the forums, and google, but none of the problems i found seemed to restart in the same circumstances, and they didnt say anything about loading programs early on

I have turned off "auto restart on system failiure", as this seems to be common in the restarting posts, but not tested what happens apon turning the computer on yet.
Also, if this is the problem, then i don't like the idea that my system is failing every time i turn it on.

Thank you for your time

Answer:My computer automatically restarts repeatedly when i turn it on

Hi .

Have you tried booting into safe mode, for comparative purposes?

If you can get into safe mode...have you tried using XP's system restore function?

Hi Guys,  I've been using lenovo u330  core2duo t6600 for 6 years with windows 7 ultimate and  recently my friend gave me his Lenovo G480 i5 3230m with no hard disk.  So  a few days ago I decided to buy 500 GB Hitachi harddisk and installing windows 7 on it (with the same DVD installation that I used for u330). The progress went well, so I continue with installing drivers for g480, but my laptop suddenly turns off. There's no warning's and BSOD, just completely turn off. I press the power button, the laptop turned on and log in successfully, but again, after 1-2 hours it's suddenly turn off.For the past three days I've been trying reinstalling with some different ways1. Swipe the RAM card with U330 2. Swipe the hard disk3. Installing windows 7 with out g480 drivers4. Change SATA controling mode  from "AHCI"  to "Compatible"5. Disabling and enabling UEFI boot6. use MBR format for harddisk before installing windows  but the problem still happens,I have read in other articles that said  this problem can happen because laptop temperature is too high, g480 running on temperature 36-41 Celcius, it is considered  too hot? (my u300 running on temperature 41-60 C and working fine)I also considered it's caused by hardware problems, but i'm not sure, my friend said it never happen before, (though he never uses it for six month's)  can anyone help me?thanks before

Welcome to the Forums.
From your observation, it does look like there's an internal component that's failing causing the machine to shutdown.
Can you consider running a diagnostic test on the machine using the following:

In my opinion there is nothing what you can do? It sounds like a hardware malfunction because Windows installation doesn?t affect the boot procedure until Windows starts so it must a hardware problem.

What you can try is this:

If it doesn?t work you need professional help from notebook technicians I think?

My hp laptop will not turn on, the internet light is constant and orange, and the caps lock flashes when turned on. It will flash twice then stop for a short bit, then flash twice again. It runs windows 10 (not sure if it's 32 or 64 bit). The light for the charger is constantly white if the battery is out and constantly orange if it's in. I read on a help fourm that it is a problem with BIOS, and I followed the steps and nothing happened. I recently had to take my computer in to be fixed only to find out my GPU was fried but the guy there was going to way overcharge me to install a new GPU so I decided to do it myself as I have done so before. So I got a new video card, I installed it, I clicked the power button and the cpu fan spins for half a second and then nothing. I called the computer guy and he said when he had it there it was working fine with other video cards and would start up fine. So now I don't want to pay him yet again to try to figure out why it won't even turn on. I've try reseating the memory, reseating the GPU. The lights on the motherboard and the lights for the power inputs to my GPU are on and yet it still won't start. I don't know what to do next. I hope one of you fine people here can help

My X200 was recently working fine, no hints of any coming problems. However, I recently returned home and was disappointed to find my laptop will not turn on anymore. When plugged in, no charging/battery indicator lights come on, and the power button elicits no response no matter how hard/repeatedly pressed. Does this sound like my power source is shot? Is it repairable? I will be replacing the power cord to ensure it's not that, however I doubt that's the problem as I should have had some battery charge to use even if the cord was faulty.

Go to Solution.

Answer:X200: Won't Turn On, No Indicator Lights

Hello mate, Try that : Unplug the power cord and the battery.Press the 'Power' Button 10 times repeatedly. Then hold the 'Power' Button down for 25 seconds.Put the battery back in and plug the power cord back in.Turn on the system. Keep us posted.

Answer:HP all in one 200 PC wont turn on/ Lights flashing

The lights were all flashing at the same time. I removed the hard drive and CD drive and the lights would still flash when i plugged it in. I then removed the memory and as soon as i plugged it in it started beeping (like it should)  I then put the hard drive and one memory chip back in and it started up. Put the other chip in and it started up. Put it all back together and it seems to be working fine. I ran the diagnostics and it all passed.  Hard to explain what was wrong. I previously had tried reseating the memory and it did not work. When i plugged it in after removing the memory it seemed to wake it up.

Here's what has been happening:
PC won't POST. I can't get to Windows or even the BIOS.
This has been an ongoing, intermittent (on/off) problem which seems to have now become permanent.
There are no beeps when powering on.
I replaced the PSU with a new CoolerMaster one in an effort to resolve the issue. No luck.
I've unplugged almost everything from the motherboard and tried powering on, which includes:
RAM (2 sticks: 4GB, 2GB)
Peripherals (including, embarrassingly, the Power button...)
Mobo fan (which is the one that wavers every few minutes)
The only items I did not unplug/disable are the CPU fan and any onboard ones, e.g. integrated graphics.

Some history now:
The PC has been having this problem for some time now, i.e. months. Eventually, it would POST and then go to Windows until Friday. Now, it just sits trying to POST. The motherboard fan will waver from slow to fast every few minutes. (I timed it and the wavering has no exact pattern.)

Side observation:
When removing the 4 gigs of RAM, leaving only the 2 gigs, PC freaked out and turned on and off several times before finally POSTing and going to Windows normally.

Today, I removed the CMOS battery for quite some time, maybe an hour or more. The PC was unplugged when removing it and after so I hit the power button. After popping the battery back in and turning back on, I still get nothing.

Can I turn the PC on with the CMOS battery removed? Do you think it would help ... Read more

Answer:Re: Portege M800 - Lights wont turn off

First of all you have to ensure that latest BIOS is installed.
If you are using the latest BIOS then try this:

Please remove the battery and disconnect AC adaptor.
Then wait some time? two, three hours.
Then plug battery and AC adaptor again.

Check the BIOS settings (set it to default)
After that try to enable or disable the illumination again?

Hi, I'm trying to fix a friend's T430s and the issue is that it doesn't turn on. With the battery plugged in, nothing happens. No lights and no sounds. When I plug the adapter in the buttons along the top of the keyboard (volume mute, power, etc.) and then they turn off and nothing. The motherboard was replaced, but the issue remains.  Any tips or trick are much appreciated Thanks

Dell dimension4300 won't turn on
LED lights in back are blinking--A & B are orange
C & D are green
Don't know what to do
any help appreciated:confused

Answer:blinking yellow lights-dell won't turn on

Dell indicates that combination of lights is a memory problem.

Reseat the memory modules. If the problem persists, see "Contacting Dell" in the Solutions Guide for instructions on obtaining technical assistance.Click to expand...

Try reseating the RAM modules. If that doesn't work; if you have more than one module try using just one at a time to see if you can isolate the bad module.

I've have had a Lenovo g500s running windows 8.1 for almost a year and never had an major issue. But recently I have found that it will not turn on. I have found that by taking out and putting the battery back in will rarely result in the battery light blinking in red. If i try to turn it on at this point it will turn for a few second "prepare for automatic repairs" and then in a few seconds turn back off its original turned off state. I have tried "Flee-Power" while calling technical support and it made a small noise and then issued a burning smell. It's 1 year warranty is still valid. If anyone has any suggestions, a fix, direction, or advice please respond.

Hi all,

I am having problems with the Ethernet Adapter of my Toshiba Equium M50 236. The closest match I could find on Toshiba's website is the Equium M50 216 (PSM57E). Apart from RAM and HDD size differences the products seem to be the same.

My problem is, the network driver from the original disc won't install properly after I reformatted the system with Windows XP Professional SP3. I installed the drivers with the original disc according to the sequence provided. (With a restart whenever prompted).

However, when I reached the Network Driver, the package installer opened a command prompt and after a while popped up an error, "- Driver was NOT updated! (INF file may be wrong or invalid)" and then an error window with a title "TDevconEx" saying installation failed.

The network adapter section in the device manager lists 1394 net adapter and the wireless adapter only. The network adapter port has both lights on without any cable plugged.

After this, I downloaded the latest driver from TOSHIBA for the 216 (PSM57E) which happened to be the same package included in the original driver CD and it came up with the same error. I opened the INF file and noticed that the adapter is "Marvell Yukon Ethernet Controller".

In the BIOS, the In-built LAN and Wake up on LAN are enabled. They're also enabled in the TOSHIBA HW utility.

After this, I downloaded... Read more

Is there an option in the BIOS to enable/disable the Ethernet card? Can you post a screen shot of Device Manager?

I used it two days ago, on battery. Closed the lid, plugged it in, and went to sleep (both of us). Today, it would not power on, no lights light up and no fan sounds, etc happen. I tried holding down the power button for the static discharge trick, and even tried pressing the one-key recovery button (repeatedly). Nothing. Won't turn on even with another (new) charging cable and brick, with or without battery in it.  My laptop is literally half a month out of warranty - I purchased it August last year; it's actually the special Best Buy model, but similar to the other lettered models it seems (especially the Z580).  Called support, they want me to pay them to fix it, and then when I said no to that, hung up on me mid-conversation. And you know what, this isn't even the first time this laptop had problems - I had to call support when I first got it, and they apparently never made a ticket or note of that, so now my laptop has "no history" of having problems. And FYI, whoever it was that took my call that other time, the plastic housing still makes the crackling noise when I move the screen up/down, it never settled. I believe I also had a little power-on issue at the beginning, forgot the specifics, but it was fixed then, or so I thought - again, somehow no ticket was ever created.... (Then again, this new rep thought I had two Lenovo laptops on my profile, so who knows what happened?)Anyone having similar problems with their Ideapads? Know how to fix i... Read more

Answer:P580 won't turn on. Nothing lights up. Not a power issue.

hi Amyx231,
Having No POST, No Power might mean that the motherboard or the DC-IN cable that connects the charging port into the motherboard might have gone defective. This scenarios usually requires you to send the unit in for service and it should be covered under the warranty.
If I may ask, is this the number that you dialed?

Notebook fails to turn all the way on when power button is pressed. Caps Lock light and power light turn on for a few seconds then power off without any actions occurring on screen (screen remains blank and black with no changes). Hard drive light also turns on and goes off a few seconds later but is orange colored (not sure if this is typical for these laptops). This computer is brand new and has never been turned on. I have attempted a hard reset but had no success.

Was troubleshooting a computer that won't start

Computer worked perfectly fine, underwent an update, and inexplicably crashed. Trying to turn it on won't so much as hint at a flicker of any light whatsoever on a motherboard, or screen, or even make a sound from a fan, or turn a fan on, etc. Absolutely dead.

Tried a brand new PSU to no avail. Disconnected previous one, and connected new one exactly as the previous one had been connected. Flipped the switch in the back of the new PSU to 'On', and tried the 'On' button on the case. No peripherals were attached whatsoever at any time. No joy.

Under these circumstances, would the problem most likely lie in a tossed-out motherboard, or CPU, and why? I imagine these could be the only two culprits, unless a bad CPU fan could be a candidate? A fun note: this is a refurbished computer (I wonder why those are a bad idea?)

*Added* It was the windows 8.1 update that the crash happened under (but not necessarily caused by), and the computer is a Gateway DX4870 that had 8 installed already. This should be it: - Refurbished: Gateway DX Series DX4870-UB2B (DT.GEEAA.002) Desktop PC Intel Core i3 3240 (3.40GHz) 6GB DDR3 1TB HDD Capacity Windows 8 64-Bit

Thanks for any help!

Hey everyone,

I have just re-installed the operating system on this laptop and managed to find most of the drivers, yet one thing is still puzzling me.
The touch-sensitive hotkeys do not work, and the lights underneath them (and the other lights on the equium logo for example) don't turn off.

Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

Answer:Re: Equium U400-145 PSU42E - lights won't turn off

You can disable the illumination in BIOS!
Start the notebook, press F2. Now you would be able to change the settings in BIOS.
Disable the illumination and save the changes.

Now the LEDs should be off.

This is happening now when I try turning my pc on, I've got 4 hard drives in it, the motherboard flashes lights and the rear fan starts for a second, the hard drives buz then nothing, it repeats after a few seconds. Normally the hard drives buz once when starting then the pc starts. It's like it wants to start but something is stopping it. It must be something to do with on of them.

What can I do about this? Thanks.
