Power issue with my Toshiba Satellite A505-S6033.

Question: Power issue with my Toshiba Satellite A505-S6033.

I have a power up issue with my Toshiba Satellite A505-S6033. About a month ago my laptop suddenly shutoff and is showing no power incoming/charging. When I try removing the charger and plug and holdong down the power button it ends up not doing anything andiI've tried for about 5 mins. It does however light up for a split second when I remove the battery and plug the adapter in; it makes the power led flicker red and out again. I'm thinking it was just fried/motherboard dead but since its lighting up I'm hoping that's not the case.

Preferred Solution: Power issue with my Toshiba Satellite A505-S6033.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have the Toshiba Satellite A505-6970 and would like to upgrade the CPU from T6500 to P8700 - Intel Core 2 Duo P8700 Penryn 2.53GHz 3MB L2 Cache Socket P 25W Dual-Core Mobile Processor Model BX80577P8700

My issue is that I do not know if the motherboard in this thing supports a 1066 FSB. I can't pull any good information on the board used from my own machine, not even with Everest. Everest shows:

Motherboard ID <DMI>
Motherboard name Toshiba Satellite A505

Online description of the Laptop:
Toshiba Satellite A505-S6970 - Core 2 Duo T6500 2.1 GHz - 16" TFT - Laptops - CNET Archive

The CNET review states:
Chipset Type Mobile Intel GM45 Express

Searching for GM45 Express yields:
Mobile Intel? GM45 Express Chipset

Which states:
FSB... 667MHz / 800MHz / 1066MHz

Now what I'm not sure about is whether or not the chipset type controls what FSB the motherboard can operate at. Or does the motherboard itself set the max available FSB independent of the chipset type?

Basically I can't get too much info on the capabilities of the mobo because Toshiba doesn't advertise it's specs. Obviously if the mobo will only run at 800 FSB max, a new chip running at 1066 instead of 800 won't even be an upgrade. Slightly more cache in this case, same multiplier (I think), but downclocked to 800 I would assume.

Thanks for any information guys.

Answer:Upgrading CPU on Toshiba Satellite A505, not sure on FSB

If you can't find any information, I wouldn't push it. I've done a quick Google, came up with nothing. Maybe you should ask Toshiba support of what you can do.

I dont know how I did it but my computer always came on asked me for a password, well yesterday I turned it on from being shut down and it asked for the usual password, i entered it then it started windows. Then it stops and wants a username and another password, I have no idea what the password is and am not sure of the username. Its running windows seven and do sent seem to have anything wrong with it but somehow I must have switched the settings by accident, or brain fart.

Any advice I can get would be greatly appreciated, also if I enter the incorrect username or password enough times will it lock up. I am nervous of doing something really hard to reset if I put in the wrong ones.

Answer:need some help with the password on toshiba satellite a505

You need to get into safemode and run a virus scan. The login at the first boot of Windows is the only login credentials you should need and anything after that without extra enterprise level software could very well be a virus.

I have a Toshiba Satellite a505 (in know, it's not the best for gaming) with 4GB of ram, 1TB of external memory (i use when at home) and an intel chipset that says it can go up to 1853 MB. I would like to know if on this laptop it is possible to configure how much memory my graphics card uses in order to get more performance out of games (i can already run FIFA 11 1366x768 resolution medium settings, 25fps). And also if there are any utilities out there that could improve the performance of my laptop. Also, one last question is 60C hot for a laptop CPU?

I have a new Toshiba Satellite A505 laptop, and am trying to connect to wifi, but often can't get connected, and often can't even see my home network on Available Networks. When I do see my network, I am getting an excellent signal, but still can not connect sometimes.
Router is a Linksys WRT160N. The Toshiba is Windows 7 Home Premium. Any thoughts?

Answer:Connecting to wifi from Toshiba Satellite A505

I know I am having serious issues with my netbook and my wireless network. I can't figure out how to fix it, except to go downstairs and reset my wireless router. My work laptop and others connect just fine, it's only a problem with my netbook.

Have you tried resetting the router and see if it connects right away?

I have a Toshiba Satellite A505 Laptop and I was doing college finals last night and spilled my Mike's Hard Lemonade onto the right half of my keyboard. Now, the number pad, right shift/enter key, and directional arrow keys are very sticky. I tried popping off the right shift key, and ended up busting a piece of plastic and now the shift key doesnt lock completely in place. it stays in but wobbles. I need to purchase a whole new keyboard. How expensive, and how easy is it to install a new laptop keyboard. Is it something I can do without taking it to a shop? Is it worth repairing?

Hey guys i need your help,

I installed windows 7 ultimate on my toshiba Satellite A505 s6970, and i downloaded all the drivers for it from and i installed them all.

When i open device manager, 3 devices are not installed (2-Base System Device // 1-Unknown device).
Then i installed toshiba service station (windows vista / 7 32-64bit because my windows is 64) that he will search and download automatically all the devices needed, but it doesn't open on windows 7, it was working perfectly on windows vista.

Also the eco utility isn't working, and the touch media buttons work great but without giving that beep voice.

Thanks for Your Help

Answer:Satellite A505 s6970: Toshiba Service Station isn't working on Win 7

To be honest I have no experience with this tool.
I?m using Tempro.

However, I assume Toshiba service station was not tested and not designed for Win 7 at this time.
Maybe you will need to wait for next update which would work with Win 7 properly.

You must understand that the Win 7 drivers were published as Beta version? this would mean that the final version would be released in the next time?
In my opinion you should take a look from time to time on the Toshiba US page.
I noticed that every day new drivers are released and published?.

I bought a PWR+ Ac Adapter Power Supply Cord that was listed as a replacement for the A505 series, which mine is. When I got it, I noted that it lists output as 19V, 4.9A. My original Toshiba adapter shows the same voltage, but says 4.74A.
Will that slight difference hurt my computer?

Answer:Satellite A505 - Can I use other power cord?

You can use this new AC/DC adaptor with 4.9A instead 4.7A.
The point is that the AC/DC adaptor must have at least 4.7A but if it has more, it?s no problem. So it will not hurt the computer.

So doesn?t be worry, have fun with the new AC/DC adaptor. :)

Hi there, I have a toshiba A75 laptop that does not boot when on ac power without a battery beyond bios. It shows the splash screen but then dies on normal boot.

When I have the battery in and the unit is powered off It does charge the battery.
When the battery is fully charged, it will run and boot into windows but does not recognize the ac power at all. It just drains the battery, then when the battery is at 0 it shuts off and this is while connected to AC power and the LED see's the AC power.

When on AC power I can boot into bios and it will sit there for days without a battery, but when I try to get to the OS it just shuts down. I have replaced the mobo twice. I have replaced the hard drive as well. The odd part is that with the hard drive out of the laptop, I can get the laptop to run with out any power failures. It just recycles the media device failure message but does not crash.

I have tested the power supply on other laptops and it seems to work just fine.

Any one have any ideas?

Answer:Toshiba Satellite A75 boot/power issue with AC power

Since you have replaced the system board twice, this probably does not apply to you... but we have seen a number of Toshibas with the same or similar motherboard where the power jack on the board became loose or disconnected. A new jack had to be obtained and soldered back into position.
If you bought used boards or refurbished boards, this difficult jack problem could have been the cause. It requires a special cold solder technique and is awkward to access, but when done properly by an experienced tech, it can save a laptop.
There are several Dell Inspirons and Sony laptops with the similar problem.
We have seen costs in a shop as high as $160 for this repair... but the part is only $6.00 so I don't know how they justify the high cost.

Somehow when I was putting a CD in my drive... it slide in my computer, but not in the drive and I can't find it.

The drive works fine, closes fine, opens fine, loads other CD''s fine. I've tried looking with a flashlight can't find the disc.....

So I'm not sure what my options are this point, leave it in there and hope nothing happens try to remove my disc drive, which I have no idea how to do.
Or send it in, which im not sure if it would be paid for under warranty....

Anyway any tips or ideas would be great.

Answer:Odd issue with my Satellite A505-S6973

I doubt it would be covered under warranty, you may need to get an ASP to dismantle the system to remove the Disc - which is probably just above the optical drive.

Ok, I am fully aware of the black screen of death issue, which I have along with everyone else who didn't pay attention when buying this comp, but this morning I tried to turn it on and I get a blinking battery light, but nothing else. I took out the battery and tired with just the AC Adapter plugged in, no blinking light, nothing. With the adapter unplugged and the battery in, I still get the blinking light. So I figured it had to be the adapter. I went out and bought a new adapter, but no dice. Anyone else have this problem? Know any possible way to fix this or what's causing it?

My Toshiba laptop was working fine with the AC adapter plugged in (the battery was on it's last breath and would not charge at all, so I always had to keep it plugged it). I had to move so I unplugged the laptop (did not shut down). After the move I tried turning it on and it would not.

The AC Led light is on, so it's not the adapter.
The Battery light is amber and flickering (it wasn't flickering before)
When I press the power button to power up the laptop - the Power and the CD/DVD Led lights go on, but not the HD light. And the screen stays blank.
I hear no sounds, seems the HD is completely dormant.

There are a few files on the HD that I absolutely have to have. I'm not too concerned with getting the laptop to be operational, I just need to get those files and the laptop can be recycled.

Any ideas? How to get it to power up at least once, so I could copy the files?

Answer:Toshiba Satellite power issue with AC adapter pluged in

Try taking the battery out of the laptop and powering the laptop on (with the AC adapter plugged in obviously). Another option for recovering the files would be to get an adapter to connect the laptop drive to a usb port on another pc.

Ok I have done a ton of research online about what could be wrong with my laptop. But I cant find anything about my situation. When I plug the charger in I get a blue charge light on and it stays on. I dont have a battery so I cant tell you if it will charge. But to my knowledge I dont even need a battery to turn on the laptop. I can use AC. When I hit the power button the power light next to the charge light turns on for 5-10 seconds and then shuts off. I can do this over and over till I am blue in the face. By the way when i hit the power button nothing happens inside the laptop at all. No sound or movement. Now i have tried to hold the power button with out it being plugged in for 30 secs to 3 mins and still the same routine. I reseated the memory and also taken out the hard drive and DVD drive. Still nothing. Can someone help me to troubleshoot this machine.

PS does the fingerprint reader have anything to do with it not turning on?

Answer:Toshiba Satellite P205 S6337 Power Issue.

the fingerprint reader is for after post so not to actually turn it on
running off ac all the time may have knackered the connectrion where the power goes to mobo and also your cmos will be suffering also do you not get anything at all on the screen not even for a second?

My problem is that when i startup the laptop, and go to the desktop theres a cetain point that stop loading....and it gets freeze there till i have to manually reset...(i can go trough the safe mode well).

I dont know if this has soemthing to do with it... but i downloaded and install a new driver from the nvidia webpage. After tryin it several days, i notice it there was some issues, and so i changed it again the drivers from the one in the Toshiba web page.

well 2 days went well... i could do everything normally...

OK I decided to use the recovery tool fromToshiba, but the same issue happend while isntallin the drivers by itself.... i dont know if it was coincidence but right after it install the nividia drivers it just stop working froze again.....and now it doesnt let me start with an account, because it gets froze, only in afe mode i can access my laptop...

one thing i tried was unisitallin the nvidia drivers in safe mode... and try boot the worked.. or at leat doesnt get stuck, but since i did the recovery from Toshiba it wont let me start session.

I really have no idea what could it be... the grpahic card??

It looks like a graphci card driver from causes freezing. Moreover, it isn't recommended to use not pretested driver by Toshiba. The Toshiba drivers are modified to support overheating protection. So, use only drivers from Toshiba driver page.

What type of ac adapter do you have, voltages and have you tried another type of ac adapter ?

I don't know for sure, but... it sounds like something is wrong with the ac jack.
Those can be replaced easily if you know how to solder, the part will cost less 7 dollars USA wise but shipping to you might be another issue due to your location.

Hello: I have a Toshiba Satellite A505-S6960 (laptop) running Windows Vista Home Premium (64-bit) SP 2. It is the original O/S that was installed with the laptop and it is an OEM license. I bought the laptop in 2009. It has an Intel Core2 Duo 2.10 GHz CPU, 4GB of RAM, with an Intel GMA 4500MHD graphics chip integrated into the motherboard. I'm not sure of the motherboard, other than it running the Mobile Intel GM45 Express chipset.

I have been consistently receiving the Blue Screen of Death with the message IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL.

I have scanned my machine using AVG Free 2012. I also ran full scans using Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, Lavasoft's Ad-Aware, Windows Defender, and Kapersky's TDSS Killer. All scans came up clean.

I've cleaned my laptop using Piriform's CCleaner app also utilizing its Registry Cleaner utility. I've also used SlimWare Utilities' FixCleaner app to clean the registry and it's DriverUpdate utility to update my drivers and all system and install all Windows Vista updates.

I can successfully boot my laptop into safe mode. I can even boot into safe mode with networking. While in safe mode, I experience no BSOD occurrences. I ruled out any issues due to overheating as the BSODs occur on cold startup after being shut down for a while.

I've followed the instructions and attached the kernel dumps and other system information in the two attached zip files. I have also attached a list of drivers on my machine using driverquery from the com... Read more

Answer:BSOD: Vista x64 Toshiba A505 Laptop

The drivers for your Toshiba Universal Camera Filter (pgeffect.sys) and Ad-Aware's filter driver (KernExplorer64.sys) are bumping into each other and causing a mess. I would recommend updating the first and uninstalling the latter and replacing it with something a bit more reliable (like Superantispyware).

Also this seems as if Ad-Aware is running at the same time as your AVG Antivirus. It is not wise to have two or more anti-malware/anti-spyware products running simultaneously, as this can easily cause conflicts and create a whole sort of problems. You should have a reliable antivirus active at all times and keep the anti-spyware around only for the occasional scan.

I installed a fresh copy of Windows & to a machine that I had gotten from someone without a hard drive.

The touchpad does not work, nor does it show up in the device manager. I am able to activate/deactivate the touchpad using the button located above the touchpad, however the touchpad itself does not work. Nor does the 'FN+F9' key, or a large number of the "fn' keys for that matter.

I checked, rechecked, and tripple checked the connections to the touchpad and everything seems to be good, I do not see why it it now being displayed in the device manager list.

Any ideas?

Also, I can able to plug in a UBS house and run off of that, but I really like being able to use the touchpad.

Toshiba Satellite L305-5955, Ive taken apart and replaced power jack. Not directly soldered to motherboard. While still apart, and battery out/in, connected power supply and still absolutely no response. Power supply is NOT original, and slightly different specs, i.e original 19v..6.3A

Answer:Toshiba Satellite L305-5955 does not respond to power supply, new power jack

Almost certainly the problem is that the current rating is wrong, if the laptop needs
6.3 A of current, it won't function on less (just as you can't use a 3A fuse for a kettle!)
Unfortunately it must be the right current rating, I know, I've been caught that way too!
Maybe you can exchange it?

Keyboard connector for Toshiba a505-6020 laptop broken

My keyboard was dirty, so I followed some videos and youtube and took out the keyboard connector from the motherboard. According to the video, there is a white tab and you move it forward, and voila, the keyboard comes out. Unfortunately, I did something wrong, and a little piece came out, and now I can't get the connector to stay in. As you can see in the picture below, under where it says CS10 is a white plastic connector. To the left, I've place a black piece of metal or plastic which somehow hows the keyboard connector in place.

Hello guys. This is my first post here. First at all, thanks in advance for any help you can give me. I'm from Costa Rica so excuse me if my english sometimes gets messed up.

I know this is an old thread. I double checked any possible option before i decide to post my situation. But none of them seems to work for me.

My problem is this:
I got a laptop Toshiba Satellite A105-S4334
Model number: PSAA8U-14M02K
Systemboard Toshiba number is: V00068590
Systemboard number is: 1310A2041316
What happened to my system is the like you guess it wont power up. Last time my brother used, it was working fine, he let the battery run out of power so we could start charging it back from 0. But when we plugged nothing happened, no lights, no charge no anything.

i tried everything, from removing the battery to replace hard drives an other components.. (with the help of a expert). Eventually i took it to the toshiba support center and the guy only tells me that is the systemboard what is wrong with the computer.

Now, i will like to know what exactly went wrong but they wont tell me. they just tell me that i have to replace the component.

Now here comes the thing.... is the second time in less than a year that i will have to replace the motherboard. First time it was under warranty so they change some defective systemboard along with some memory. 6 months later it happens again.

The first time it wasn't so drastic. it gave me some signs of failure so i took it right awa... Read more

Answer:Toshiba Satellite won't power up

Thanks Zenosincks, that's also the hunch i have, maybe i could give it a try, what's the worst that could happen? that i have to replace the motherboard?

i will let you know after i tried to see what comes up from that.

First I am sorry about my English :-)
I have a problem with my Toshiba Satellite A505-s6979
My HDD shows that I have free space of 13G from 48g HDD and the sum of all the folders is only 26GB.
And... the HDD get full every day.

Is there any schedule backup program?
How can I cancel it?

Please help me...

Answer:Back-up on Satellite A505

I searched for the notebook specifications on the Toshiba US page because it?s a IS model.
I did it because I wondered about the HDD size?
Now it looks like the A505-s6979 has been equipped with the 64GB SSD drive and 320GB SATA HDD

I think the Vista has been installed on this SSD drive and it contains also the hidden Vista backup partition.
The hidden partition is created automatically by Vista and is needed for system restore if something would go wrong.
I think you could see it if you would access the Vista disk management console.

Recently this laptop started shutting down (like it would if I held down the power button) for no apparent reason.
I suspect it's because it's overheating, but there was a couple times when it did it within a few minutes of booting up with nothing running.

I do play games on it, that's its main purpose. Tried running speed fan but it doesn't detect the fans in the laptop, still kind of useful because I can monitor the temperature of the GPU and the cores. Just to give more info, usually the GPU is at 45-47 degrees Celsius when I'm not running any games and the cores temps are at 55-60 degrees Celsius.

When I do run games, the GPU temp jumps to around 80 and the cores are somewhere in the 85-95 degree range. The fan sounds like it works and I have a cooler pad that the laptop sits on.
Any ideas for what might have caused this? The laptop is about 8 months old and it's a Satellite A505, i7 1.6ghz quad core processor, nvidia geforce 330m graphics with 4 gigs of RAM.

Answer:Satellite A505 crashes

Sounds like it's overheating. Try cleaning the heatsink by spraying Compressed Air through the vents to remove excess dust.

Used for several hours with no problem, I was plugged in not using battery. Icon went missing again & after once again checking this is notifications all of a sudded the computer just shut down. Can't restart, no power from adapter. If battery is in only the battery light shows. The battery isn't charged so that doesn't help much. Hi all and thanks in advance.

I'm trying to repair a Toshiba Satellite 2455-S305 that will not power on after being dropped on it's corner. It hit on the corner where the speaker and power jack are.
When I plug it in, the power light and battery charging light come on. If I press the power button, the power light comes on, but I don't hear anything, see anything, or feel any vibration to show that it's actually trying to boot or anything.

I opened it up, took it apart and reseated every connector, RAM, and drive and am still seeing the same problem.

The power jack is removable, and attached via cable to the motherboard. It looked like it was in pretty good shape and the cable and connector did not seem to be stressed.

I also tried plugging it in to an external monitor with no results.

Any suggestions?

Answer:Toshiba Satellite won't power on after being dropped

Maybe you damaged the motherboard or CPU?

...and this would probably mean the laptop would make a 'beep' sound, but maybe u damaged the sound too?

Big theory, but, may be true.

Answer:Toshiba Satellite P10-833. Sudden power down

Hi Dimitri,

Sudden power downs without the normal shutdown process occurring can be caused by over-heating. Check that your notebook is not blocked with dust and debris in the area of the air intake fans and CPU heatsink.

Old laptop batteries can do strange things toward the end of their lives. It's probably time for a replacement. When you purchase the new battery, be sure you can return it just in case it turns out that the battery isn't the problem....

Hi everybody!

I'm having a Toshiba Satellite L50-B-1DJ. It has an 750 GB HDD, but that wasn't enough for me. So I bought a Toshiba 1TB HDD. I undid all the screws, carefully (using my driver license), lifted up the plastic and removed a HDD.

BTW, I really like that platic solution on the HDD!!

Then I realised, that all my stuff is still on it.
So I put the HDD back, planning that I'll copy everything on my ext. hard drive.
Well I screwed it back, got the battery back in, put the AC adaptor back.

The LED was on, indicating that power is flowing, battery is loading. I pressed the "Power-On" button, and nothing happened. Pressed it again still nothing. I plugged the battery and the AC adaptor out, I held the Power button for 30 sec, put everything back still nothing. I got scared. Opened the back once again, just to take a look at, if anything slipped out. Nope.

Everything is A-OKAY. What to do? Did I void the warranty? I hope not.
Can I repair myself without voiding my warranty? I hope so!

And also: I bought the laptop in Hungary, but I'm in Germany. Can I get it repaired here, in case my warranty is valid?

Thank you for your help!

Recently I dismantled my laptop to fix the power socket on the back. Having done a good job on that I assembled it only to find that it would not boot up and the only thing that does happens is the orange power L.E.D. at the front flashes.I have read some information from Toshiba Technical Service & Support which states, and I quote :"Toshiba Europe has identified that some notebooks manuafactured in January and February 2000 may have a fault that could prevent the notebook from starting up. This fault has been reported on some Celeron(tm) processor based Satellite 4090 systems operating at 400 MHz as well as Pentium(r) II processor based Satellite 4100 and Tecra 8000, operating at 400 MHz only.Affected notebooks can no longer be started and the DC-IN LED at the front of the notebook blinks. Intel and Toshiba have developed the solution to this issue that has been implemented in manufacturing (Intel revised up the module to REV 505) and any affected notebooks can be repaired relatively easily."End of quote. If anyone can tell me what this repair solution is I would be very happy !!!Thanks

Not sure if anyone can offer any advice on this one. Basically I bought a laptop from someone who I work with for my son as an xmas present. Paid £400 for it which I was told was reasonably fair at the time, it was 14mths old.As of yesterday it has apparently died. When it is connected to the power supply there are no lights, nothing. The power lead is warm so I am assuming that part is ok. When I wiggle the power lead around there is no intermittent power coming through, so I think the power jack is ok so that leaves me with the motherboard. I have read on some sites that it can be pretty expensive to repair, some companies offer to change the whole mother board whilst others will repair the faulty chips. Not sure whether to send it off to someone or take it down to a local computer repair shop (I dont want to be ripped off more than I already have)!Has anyone else had a similar problem, or can someone recommend a good repair company to use.

When I click the power button when my computer is off, the light turns on, a few LED's on the front turn on, the CD drive makes the noise like it's starting up, but then it just freezes and the screen doesn't light up. I have to hold the power button in for 3 seconds to restart the laptop and try it again. If i do this like 10 times it will sometimes power on and function properly until I close my laptop again. It seems like it has to be warmed up or something?

Answer:Toshiba Satellite A665 won't power on.

When you are trying to turn it on are there any bleeps or do any lights flash in any kind of sequence ?

A couple of things you could try and that is a cold boot and/or resetting the BIOS.

A cold boot is when you remove the battery and the AC power cord then hold the power button in for 40 secs - 1min.

This is how to reset the BIOS for your A665 How to Reset BIOS Password on a Toshiba Satellite - YouTube

Have you tried booting up with just AC and the battery removed ?

I recently purchased a Satellite A505-S6986 which has a NVIDIA GeForce GT 230M graphics card. Unfortunately I am required to downgrade my OS from Windows7 to XP for my job. I've tried downloading the Geforce 200m series drivers (as well as others) manually, the automatic detection tool and read countless forums with no success.

Can you please help me locate ANY display drivers that will install successfully on my system? (I don't mind if they're legacy/old).

Thanks for any help

Answer:Satellite A505 - Where can I get display driver for XP?

I think it could be a little bit difficult to get a display driver for XP and this graphic card. The point is that Windows XP is old and the past. There is no support anymore for newer notebooks.

I think the only option is the original nVidia driver but these drivers are not pretested on your notebook and doesn?t have an overheat protection. It could destroy your graphic card.

In your case I would install Windows 7. If you use the Ultimate edition there is an XP virtualization mode where you can run older applications.

Fellow toshiba laptop users,

I'm here tonight to find out, my laptop has the touchpad and quickplay buttons and I was wondering if I were to upgrade my pc to Windows 7 would i be able to use all these features (plus eco utility and pc health monitor).

I ask this question because currently my pc has, what is supposed to be a 500Gb harddisk, 317 GB hard disk space available but i barely have information or documents stored on my system. I can understand i have programs installed but still to occupy that amount.

So, long story short, if i were to remove and install the Windows 7 operating system, and i installed the toshibha value added package and eco utility programs would that be all I would need to dload and install because i like this pc.

Also can anyone with a Toshiba Satellite A505-S6973 tell me if they can the feel the breeze coming out of their laptop because my fan seems to blow slow and the temperature on my system is always high, currently FAN SPEED 90% and CPU TEMPERATURE 64%, and I hav my system configured to use low power.

I appreciated any and all comments, suggestions and advice...

Answer:Satellite A505-S6973 and OS Upgrade

I don't have US notebook model and cannot answer to your second question but I know for sure that Win7 works well on Satellite A500.
Two months ago I had friends Satellite A500 at home. Originally it was preinstalled with Vista.
I made two experiments to see how it works with Win7. At first I have upgraded it with Toshiba upgrade kit and everything was OK.
With clean OS installation everything was OK too.

Before you start Win7 installation please check Toshiba support page to be sure which version is fully supported. Here in Europe only Win7 64bit is fully supported.

About two hours ago my laptop ran out of battery life and then shutdown. I plugged in the charger and turned it back on to find out that the sound no longer works through the built in speakers, although I can hear sound through my headphones. Everything is unmuted, I checked all the drivers and they all seem to be fine, and restoring my computer didn't work.

help please :D

Answer:No sound on Satellite A505-S6980

Hi mate,

That?s really strange, normally it should also work through the built in speakers if the headphone works. Have you checked the volume, is it on highest level? You can also mute or unmute the sound using FN+ESC. Check this!!

In worst case the internal speakers are faulty and must be replaced. This is pretty new notebook so the repair should be for free due warranty.

Good luck! :)

I want to recover my windows 7 but I don't know how. I installed another Windows7 but I want to get back to the one came with the laptop, any idea how?

One more thing, I can't find my laptop model in the drivers page. Which drivers I should download?

Answer:Satellite A505 - Recovery and drivers

Hi sharkezo,

So first of all before we start a long discussion you should tell us what notebook model you have exactly. What is the exact part number of it?

Generally speaking if you have installed another Windows 7 version you need Toshiba recovery disk to restore the previous Windows version. Just boot from this disk and follow the screen instructions. It will restore preinstalled Windows version.

If you install Windows from recovery disk you don?t need additional drivers because everything is preinstalled. :)

Last week the sound went out on my Satellite A505-S6960 speakers and headphone jack. I am currently running Vista. Prior to this, the sound worked great for the first 6 weeks. After re-installing the following driver, the sound worked fine again:

Driver: Realtek Audio Driver for Windows Vista (32bit/64bit)
Found here: rpn=PSAP0U&modelFilter=A505-S6960&selCategory=3&selFamily=1073768663

However, now, 3 days later the sound no longer works, and re-installing the driver does not help this time. Anyone know what the issue is?

I am working on a friend's toshiba satellite a75-s2111 laptop computer. She gave it to me telling me it was not even turning on. I have worked with it and discovered 2 issues with the power supply. First that the power cord is a bit loose going into the computer and not always giving it power, however seems fixable when I plugged my rocketfish universal adaptor into it (piece 41 was used, even though this specific computer is not on capatibility list, which is what similar toshibas listed used).

However there is a second problem with the power supply that I am not sure how to even begin fixing. When the cord is plugged in and the computer is off, the power cord light on the front of the computer shows green and the battery light shows red. While in this state, the battery seems to charge some. If I turn it on, the power cord light and the computer on lights turn green, and the battery light turns off. The power is then drained from the battery and not from the power cord. The computer shutting down from lack of power when the battery is drained and refusing to run completely if I try to run it without the battery.

How do I go about fixing this second problem or is it even fixable? I do not want to suggest trying out a new battery unless I know for sure that would solve the problem, otherwise it would be $100 wasted if it does not work.

Thanks in advance for any help that can be offered.

Answer:Toshiba laptop power issue

Does sound as if the battery is dead, however I can understand your reluctance to buy another should that not be the real fault.

I am sure there are other more experienced people here that know about electrical circuits. If it were me I'd try and get hold of replacement power cord, exactly the same as the old one.
I'd take my Tosh to shops selling second hand Toshes and ask to use thier power cord to test connection. Or even ask about trying a new battery before you buy.
I might buy a new cord from Ebay.

If its an old machine then it will probably be the battery. And Tosh batteries when they go they just go!

Let us know what happens, I have a Tosh so maybe my fate will be yours

I was wondering if anybody can help me with my current problem. My laptop won't charge, nor will it start up. I had recently had AC adapter issues and had to get it repaired. I had soldered a new tip for the old adapter, and it worked for a time, but the solder was a horrible job and it got loose again, so I just decided to get a whole new adapter. Before the solder had come off of the old ad adapter, the laptop ran fine, receieved power, and charged the battery. Now with the new ac adapter plugged in, the power blue LED simply blinks blue while the orange battery light remains off. I was wondering if there was a quick fix for this. I have already tried taking the battery and AC adapter out and holding the power button for well over 30 seconds and I still receive the same result- blinking LED. Can anybody help me out here?

My laptop model is a Toshiba Satellite A135-S2426. As it is an old laptop, it's really not worth bringing in getting it serviced and I have a little knowledge about the laptop itself. Also a point of note, it isn't the AC jack on the inside, since i've removed the casing and checked on the's completely separate from the motherboard and when plugged into another ac source, it worked fine. The new AC adapter has a green LED lit meaning it's receiving power, and it's also brand new so i don't think it's that. But yeah, any help here?

Answer:Toshiba laptop power issue

Toshiba's are notorious for power problems. I had a Satellite P10-809, I paid a small fortune for it, and within 6 months I started experiencing power problems. I was also receiving a constant mild electric shock whenever my arm rested on the casing of the unit while typing.

I believe there is a class action law suit against Toshiba ( I was furious trying to deal with Toshiba as they denied any problems and more or less implied that I was imagining everything. In the end, I wrote off the £1,500 I spent on the unit and have never purchased Toshiba since. I have also warned every company I have worked for to boycott Toshiba.

I have a Toshiba satellite s855-044 and am having issues with the power. I have looked up on countless forums and have been able to find people with similar issues but not the same. Basically the issue is that it will not turn on sometimes and wont show any symptoms of having power. Here is what i know about it:
1. The issue only comes up when i power off the laptop while it is unplugged.
2. None of the power indicators on the front light up, however when you look at it in a pitch black room it is VERY faintly blinking (indicator for when it is plugged in)
3. It turns back on usually after 10 or so hours of messing around with it. (Pulling plug out and putting it back in. Checking connections inside, etc.)
4. I have 2 batteries as well as 2 power adapters (chargers), trying different combinations of them do not seem to make a difference.
5. I have tried the method of unplugging and removing battery and holding the power button for around a minute, no results from that method.

If anybody could help me out it would be greatly appreciated!

Have you checked the actual power jack connector? May be worth replacing it, since it's only a $10 part:

Hello everyone, I have a Toshiba Satellite P105-S6114 running XP. For the year that I've had it it has run great.  As of lately I haven't been able to use a CD in the DVD-R drive.  The CD tray opens, I put a CD into it, it tries to read it( I see the light turn on and hear the cd spin) but it just stops and won't recognize it.  I try to open it in "My Computer" but it just prompts me to insert a cd into the drive.  I don't know what happened in the past month to make this happen.  The catch is this.....  It will play a DVD just fine.  It recognizes it and plays it right away.  I updated the driver and even deleted the driver and started fresh.  Nothing worked. Has anyone ever heard of this?  Any help would be appreciated.  Thanks

Answer:Toshiba Satellite CD/DVD issue

Could be the particular CD you put in there. However, I once had a gateway laptop need a replacement Drive put in.  Maybe someone else has a better idea.

My laptop has developed a strange power fault, it will charge the battery while it is off but when you turn it on it seems to run off the battery then power down when the battery goes flat. All the time this is happening the AC power light is on which suggests the power is connected and all is well, the battery light shows it is fully charged until power on when it changes from white to amber.
I am going to buy a new battery as mine is not lasting very long and I need the laptop for work and can't afford to replace it right now. Any suggestions as to why the battery is getting charge but not the laptop itself.

Answer:Toshiba Satellite A300 power fault.

There could be a number of reasons. A loose connection, power adapter fault etc.
Try removing the battery from the laptop and see what happens when the mains power supply are then turned back on.
You could also have a look at this link for Toshiba information
Doing a simple internet search, there appears to be a number of Toshiba laptop charging problems mentioned, with some possible solutions.
Failing that, have you tried Toshiba support and customer care?.

I liked the Toshiba Power Saver that I had used for so long with my laptop, but after upgrading to W7-32b it does not work anymore... Most of the new utilities and drivers from Toshiba are specific for W7-64b.

I was wondering if a driver from a relatively new computer (32b based) would work fine in mine and, if it is worth a try, which one would be the most "similar" laptop to mine?

In case nothing works is there any other power management utility that you could recommend me?

Hi All,...

First Thank u for replying my previous question which helped me a lot. I have another question. I had a Tecra A4 laptop before which comes with Toshiba Power Saver utility which can control the brightness and various power profiles for Windows. I now have L40-17R laptop, which I cannot find the same utility for???

Can anyone tell me if there is a tool for managing power profiles for L40-17R model, and where can I download it?

Answer:Toshiba Power Saver utility for Satellite L40-17R

As you know for WXP Toshiba has offered Toshiba Power Saver utility but for Vista this tool does not exist in the same format. Many functions are now in Vista power settings. Toshiba Power Saver utility is also there but just with several options.

You can find it if you open Power options > Change plan settings > Change advanced power settings. There you will find Toshiba Power Saver Settings V8.02.00.

We have a Toshiba Satellite laptop that is nothing short of disappointing...but that's another story. This laptop has Toshiba Power Management and I have the setting where I would like them but they don't seem to operate properly. When the laptop is left alone for 5 minutes it basically goes into hibernation when I don't have it set up that way. I have tried to use windows power management in the control panel but somehow the Toshiba Power Management overrules that. How do I make the settings work propertly and is there a way to get rid of Toshiba Power management so I can manage it via windows?

Answer:Solved: Toshiba Satellite Power Settings

I found it in control panel and uninstalled it...thought I had looked in there before.

Dear All,

Is there is a version of TOSHIBA Power Saver for windows Vista that dont check the model of the laptop before the installation because I have Satellite M45-S265 and I know that it is not supported for Vista but I successfully got vista working on it TPS on it so any help I'll be thankful.

Answer:Is there a Toshiba Power Saver for Satellite M45 with Vista

You are right about Vista support. As far as I know there is no ?universal? power saver version but in my opinion you do not need it at all. Power saver tool for Vista does not look like old version and under Vista many settings have been taken over Vista itself.

Because of that I am pretty sure you do not need it at all. Be happy that Vista works well on your Satellite notebook. Optimize OS and enjoy it.

Hi all,

I keep getting the following led error code...

This repeats over and over again. I've tried researching what this code is relation to but with no joy. I suspect a motherboard issue or power microprocessor issue.

Any help would be appreciated.

Ok, here?s the story. I own a Toshiba Satellite A350 laptop for a few years. As every night, laptop was on, I press the power button making it go into hibernate and then pull out the plug (battery is out, since it is always on cable and it might save the battery)

The next day, I plug in the adapter, press the power button and nothing happens. Literally nothing. Black screen, not a single sound .. nothing. All I can see is the indication light that the adapter is plugged in, which lights up.

I searched the internet (using another PC, duh ) and found lots of similar issues with Toshiba laptops. Main solution seems to be holding the power button for 30 second, putting the battery in and restarting it. None of these methods help.

I took the laptop apart, checked (and disconnected) the CMOS battery. Checked the power button, which is working, cleaned everything.

Here?s the weird thing: I have an USB optical mouse and a keyboard connected. I noticed that ?besides the indication of the adapter- the red light of my mouse is on all the time and also the indication lights (caps lock, num lock) of my keyboard can be switched on. So there seems to be power on my USB as soon as I connect my adapter.

Hope anyone can help, because I ran out of options. Two friends looked into it, no one has a clue.

Is it OK to uninstall the Power Saver v5.04 from a SP6100 as it doesn't seem to work properly, or at all?

I have already been checking and changing the BIOS v1.90 power settings also accordingly, but the machine still neither ever power-off the hard drive nor will go to standby sleep.

The only things working somehow are the screen saver and screen power off, but very rarely according to the settings' timing ...

Best regards,

Pete V.

Answer:Satellite Pro 6100 and "Toshiba Power Saver"

Hello Pete

I?m really wondering the Power Saver doesn?t work well on your notebook. This tool is one of the best Toshiba designed tools and it is very useful if you want to optimize notebook power consumption.

I really don't know what is wrong there but if you are not satisfied you can remove it from the system or simply use different ?power scheme? in power options properties.
Maybe you should try to reinstall power saver.

Have you noticed some other issue with your SP 6100?

Hi, I need help with my toshiba satellite a215-s4747. There is no power when I press the power button when I plug in a AC adapter. no any light on or blinking.
I disassembled it, remove ram, modem, hot-sink, fan, cpu. I plug in a AC power adapter to the motherboard and use a voltage meter to measure it. It has 19.8v,
so will be the motherboard problem? Thank you for help!

Answer:Toshiba Satellite A215-S4747 no power on

What about the battery instead of Power Adaptor?

Also you may need to check for break in the power socket on the Motherboard (um usually underneath the Mobo )

Does anyone know how to uninstall the Toshiba Power Saver Driver manually (so that one does not have to perform a clean install of Windows)? There is no automatic uninstallation for the TPS driver (not to be confused with the Toshiba Power Saver that can be uninstalled without problems).
Notice: the recovery CD is not an option here, because the TPS driver is included.

I want to do this to check if it is the thing that messes up the keyboard or not (see posts on M60 keyboard problem). I just wanted to check it on a new Sat P100 that has a similar keyboard, but guess what... the TPS is not enclosed with it.

As one may have guessed, the keyboard problem was not solved at the Toshiba service representative.

Hi samo

Unfortunately I have no solution how to remove TPS driver but it will be interesting to know how it works after Microsoft WXP full version installation. If you make some tests please let us know.

Hey guys,
I've searched the forums a little to find a solution to my problem.
Having not found anything that seems to be the fix, i'm here - with my first post.

I've been looking at a friends Toshiba Satellite A300, that wont power on.
It was working fine until he purchased a new charger - a universal one.
He took the model number into the shop and was told this charger would do the job.
He told me the tip was hard to get into the charger port, he had to use force.

Since then, it hasn't powered on. He told me the charge lights were coming on, but nothing else.

I have the same model laptop as him, so we tried with my charger, my battery, still nothing.

I've taken the laptop completely apart. Re-seated everything. Still nothing.

What i noticed was that with the battery in, and my charger, when i left it charging for a while and tried to power on, it waited maybe a minute then the fan and power on lights came on for maybe 5 seconds then it died again.

Another thing i've noticed is that when it's charging with the battery in, the quick play lights near the power button work. I can press them without the laptop being on and they turn on/off except the media light, it stays on if turned on.

The only thing i have yet to try is replacing the CMOS battery.

I was wondering if anyone here has any idea what may be the problem here? It seems very odd for this to just start happening. The laptop hasn't been taken apart ... Read more

I have a Satellite A60-297ITA bought with XP Home.
Now I've bought an XP Pro and I've installed it reformatting all the notebook.
Then I've installed all the drivers downloaded from your site.
The Installation of seems to work fine, but at reboot I obtain an error:
A fatal error has occurred. This program will be terminated. code: 0x7E.
What can I do?

Answer:Toshiba power saver crash on Satellite A60

Unfortunately it is not easy to say why this error message occurs. It is very important that you use Installation Instructions document while drivers and tools installation because the installations order is very important for successful installation.

Try to remove power saver and install it again.

This is a Toshiba Satellite L25 - Model no. PSL2XU

The laptop won't turn on. I unplugged the battery and tried direct power from the AC adapter, and still nothing. There are no indications of life (no light to indicate charging, power, anything). I don't think it's a battery issue.

When I plug the AC adapter, and I take the battery out, the prongs that connect to the battery sustain a voltage (I checked with a voltmeter). I don't think the adapter is bad.

So what could it be? Is the motherboard just dead? A short circuit somewhere between the AC adapter and the motherboard?

My brother uses the laptop. He tells me he had issues keeping the battery charged. He bought a new battery, and he had the same issue. The battery would be drained faster and faster, charges would take longer and longer. Ultimately, at one point, he found it could not be turned on. This is his account of what happened, so I'm not sure it's 100% what happened.

Answer:Toshiba Satellite Laptop: power problems

Sounds very much like the cmos/bios battery is dead.
I have seen this happen many times.
If it is soldered in, then you are out of luck.
Sometimes leaving the laptop on charge for 24 hours can re-charge this little battery, and you may get it re-started.

Glad for any help you can provide.

Answer:Satellite A60: Canít open the Toshiba Power Saver

I have never seen this kind of error message. As far as I know there is just a message who informs you that you will not be able to use Microsoft power saver settings and Toshiba power saver at the same time.

Can you please write the original message?
In my opinion you should use the recovery DVD for OS installation. Believe me, in this case you will not have this kind of problems.

The screen has become discolored (pink blob) in the bottom right corner over the time and date toolbar.

It began two months ago when I was charging the battery on the computer.
After several hours it would go away. My belief is that it was the heat produced while charging the battery.

I only charge when the battery is low and do not leave the charger on the battery for long periods of time.
Over time the discoloration has become somewhat permanent, only moving up and down the right side of the screen, sometime being the entire right side of the computer.

I have checked to make sure I have the right charge for the computer because I was worried I was using one too powerful for the battery, but it is the correct charger. I have looked through the posts and talked with some other user at my university and have seen/heard nothing on this topic.

Any help would be great.

Answer:Satellite A505-S6980 - screen has become discolored

In my opinion the battery charging procedure has nothing to do with this issue?
It?s difficult to say what happened with the display but it looks like an hardware issue?
I think the notebook is covered by warranty? in this case I recommend getting in contact with an local ASP technician who could check the screen and maybe the screen needs to be replaced?

Good luck

Any any suggestion or recommendation why i keep having this prob thankz i will appreciate it...

Answer:Satellite A505-S6980 - BSOD 0x00000124

Either its hardware or software related BSOD.
Are you able to install the system again?
I mean you should take a Toshiba Recovery disk and boot the unit using this disk?

I think this is the only one possible option to check if its just and only a software problem.

Generally speaking, the BSOD can be caused because of different reasons?
Faulty RAM module, faulty motherboard even windows system problems cause BSOD?
So iyou need to investigate what?s wrong.

Goodday again everyone,

Can anyone tell me if the onboard keypad on my Satellite A505-S6973 has a backlight.
I'm watching alot of these new laptops and similar to mine, under the keypad it's white and I'm not sure if it's like that because it's supposed to light. If so, can anyone tell me.

Answer:Keyboard Issues on Satellite A505-S6973

On Toshiba US support page I have checked notebook specification and obviously your notebook doesn?t have this illuminated keyboard.
Just for info: all illuminated keyboards have FN+Z option for enabling/disabling illumination.
With other words small keyboard symbol will be placed on Z key.

This option, when illuminated keyboard is in the notebook, is also available in Toshiba HWSetup tool.

This notebook got a virus and I used the recovery disk one and booted from it and the recovery only used 3 of the 5 DVDs, then Booted and said perpareing for first login then updated Toshiba drivers and rebooted in a never ending loop..starting windows for the first time and toshiba screen saying preparing now reboot etc.

What now? This notebook isn't a year old.
Is it win7 or the Toshiba recovery disks?

Answer:Satellite A505 - recovery in endless loop

Recovery image installation can take up to 2 hours and will probably restart numerous times so just leave it dong it?s job.
The same is on new Satellite A660. Last week I have installed recovery image. After 2 hours it was finished and I was able to use Win7.

I hate doing this but I seem to have encountered another problem which i have been searching and reading with the hopes of correcting myself. I presently own a Satellite series laptop with an Intel Cor 2 Duo T6500 2.1Ghz processor.

I 've been monitoring my system for performance issues andi've noticed that for sometime (unsure when) the temperature on my system has risen significantly. I'm seeing from my PC Health Monitor that my processors temperature is running at 59% and fan speed is at 78% yet when I place my hand near the cooling fins at the side of my laptop I can barely feel any breeze but a co-worker of mine has a vostro and the fan feels like it's running on NOs.

If there is anything that can be done I'd greatly appreciate this, i'm afraid of loosing my system due to something simple that cause overheating.

N.B. I noticed that at one time different users posted threads stating that after updating there BIOS they experienced overheating problems. If this is the cause of anywhere near it please help.

Answer:Satellite A505-S6973 overheating and fan works often

Just one question;
Does the unit shut down automatically?

If this is not the case then you cannot speak about ?overheating? only because the temperature increased to a higher level.
The notebook temperature goes up and down and this depends on the notebook usage.
The cooling fans would run faster too if the temperature would goes up.

This is nothing unusual and it?s an common notebook behavior.

As I mentioned; the notebook would shuts down automatically if the temperature would be too high! If this is not the case, then you should not be worried about the temperature.

I advise you to uinstall Tempro utility, it makes Windows to startup slowly.
You don't even need to uinstall.

Just remove from startup option (msconfig)
