Dell Inspiron M5010 Speaker/Audio Issue?

Question: Dell Inspiron M5010 Speaker/Audio Issue?

Hello everyone, I have a Dell Inspiron M5010 that has a speaker /audio issue? The sound on the right speaker sounds fine and nothing wrong. The left side sounds blown, it makes a popping noise and crackles (the whole nine yards). Well I order a replacement speaker set. I put it in and did the same thing. Well I had them send me another speaker set. Sure enough it is doing the same thing. It is on a fresh install of Windows 7 64 Bit. I installed the latest driver off the dell website. I plugged in some headphones and the sounds fine. First time I ever had an issue like this. Any ideas or takers? I'm fresh out! I did some online research. The majority of the websites say blown speakers. I also made a video that I could post on Youtube if any one would like to see. Thanks in advance!

I recently discovered a difference in the volume; the left speaker of the laptop has been functioning normally while there seems to be very low to no sound coming from the right speaker.

Any suggestions?

Answer:Dell Inspiron 15 5559 Audio - Right Speaker has low volume while the left speaker functions normally

Hello. You didn't mention the headphone jack, so if you have not yet done so, plug in headphones and see if the balance is okay in them. If the headphones check out okay, then most probably it's a problem related to the speakers.
The test for speakers is the ePSA audio test. It is a hardware test, which means that if the test  tones are very low in the right speaker, but normal in the left speaker, then there is hardware failure somewhere, related to the right speaker.
If both speakers sound normal during the test, then the problem is in the software. Do the usual things like re-install the audio driver, check the balance levels in the Sound properties, try different audio sources, etc.
Re-installing the audio driver resets the settings to their default configurations, so if you do it then you don't have to bother with things like volumes and balance settings, because they will be okay.(Also if the balance is okay through headphones, then it should be okay through the speakers too.)
Here is how to do a simple driver re-install:
1.    Open the Device Manager.2.    Expand the "Sound, video & game controllers" category.3.    Right click on "Realtek High Definition Audio".4.    Click "uninstall".5.    Do not check the box to “delete the driver software for this device”. 6.    Restart the computer. Windows will detect your device a... Read more

Updated to Windows 10. Computer was working fine.
About 1 month in screen flashes and I see two thick black borders on the side of the display (like 4:3 mode on a widescreen TV).
After a restart the max resolution I can apply now is 1024x768
I have read the forums and tried to install the legacy AMD driver with no joy.
A dell self diagnostic test for my computer states I have an "ATI mobility radeon hd 4650" which is functioning perfectly.

Any help??

Answer:Dell inspiron M5010...Led`s

Since you've taken the machine apart, the first thing I'd be checking is the cable that connects the buttons and LEDs to the motherboard.  Those cables are pretty easy to knock loose from their connectors.  I'd check to see if they are connected and if they are I'd try reseating them.

We have a Dell Refurbished Inspiron M5010 for about a year. All of a sudden the battery is recognized but will not charge. It says it's plugged in and charging; but stays at 0%? Any suggestions?

Answer:Dell Inspiron M5010 battery in but not charging

Hi pgorney, Based on the description the issue appears to be related to hardware. Try to disconnect the battery from the computer and power on the with just the AC adapter connected. If the computer works powers up, follow the below mentioned steps to troubleshoot:

Disconnect the AC adapter and battery from the computer, then press the power button for 10-15 seconds to remove the residual power.
Power on the computer with only AC adapter connected to the computer and tap F2 key repeatedly at Dell logo to enter the BIOS.
Under Main Tab please check the AC adapter type (that is if it says 65W/90W or anything else).
Power off the computer and unplug the AC adapter from the wall, and from the computer.
Ensure that the AC adapter is unplugged long enough for the LED on the AC Adapter to go off.
Connect the adapter and the battery to the computer, and then power on the computer.
Check if the battery is getting charged.
If issue persists, power off the computer and check if the battery is getting charged.

Please post the results.

Hi everyone!I want to ask you ...which one CPU i can put to my Laptop .Dell Inspiron M5010Now it's:Athlon II P340 Dual core
Chipset AMD 785GX
Southbridge AMD SB850. I want put now Phenom II 3 or 4 cores.....which one exactly fit?

Answer:Dell Inspiron M5010 Upgrade processor

Dell did ship these with Phenom II-X4 CPUs, so most of the Socket S1-G4 CPUs should work.  Stick to models with identical or similar power requirements - installing a CPU that requires more power than the original, is an invitation to system instability.

I am working on a Dell Inspiron m5010. The problem is that it keeps restarting at the dell splash screen over and over again.
Here is what I have tried

running the dell diagnostic tool which comes back good

Trying to boot to the windows CD which it won't

I finally pulled out the hard drive because I thought maybe it had a bad sector but the extended test came back good. Oh and let me tell you for as many hard drive replacements I have done on laptops this one is just ridicules to get to.

Any help would be appreciated. Thank You

Answer:dell inspiron m5010 keeps restarting at the splash screen

The Dell forums probably would be the best place to try and get help. Those there more familiar with Dell products. I used to do a lot of support on the Dell forums but it was mostly desktops.
Laptop - Dell Community

I would suggest resetting the BIOS, but that is a bigger pain on the laptops than the hard drive replacement. Dell's do not have a BIOS recovery (if the BIOS were corrupted) like some motherboards do. If the BIOS is corrupted the ONLY option is to replace the motherboard.

Hello,
I updated BIOS M5010A12, but after restart my computer is dead, no beeps, just power led is ON and DVD drive is checking for disk.
I browsed a lot and I just found steps for bios recovery for N5010, I have M5010.
I copied .rom and .hdr file extracted from bios to USB stick formated to FAT (256MB),
removed battery, inserted USB to all connectors, put power cable while holding "End" button.
Laptop powered up, but nothing happened. Power LED is on, but screen is still black.
Please, help. Laptop is out of waranty and I don't want to spend money for programming flash via programmer.
Thanks folks!

Answer:Dell Inspiron M5010 BIOS update failure - black screen

If you've waited for 20-30 min to see if the recovery worked to no effect, you really don't have another option at this point.  It'll likely cost about what a replacement board does to have the BIOS chip unsoldered, flashed and resoldered.
www.parts-people.com/index.php
That said, $150 is a lot to spend on a system this old.  It may make more sense to replace the system.

Alright so I have a dell inspiron m5010 and it blue screened once then I shut it down and it down and would let get onto it told me to do a disk check and there whats a problem with my hard disk. So I ran a memory diagnostics test and it gave me error code 2000-0151. I rebooted again and got to recovery options and did the dell emergency backup option were it puts everything on my hard drive to a folder and restores everything to factory settings. This now allowed me to sign in and use the computer perfectly fine BUT, it suddenly gave me a windows error message saying "Windows detected a hard disk problem" it then goes on to tell me to back things up. So i move onto the backup process and it fails very single time giving me the backup error 0x80070002. So I attempt to run a disk check again but when I schedule it and reboot it keeps canceling itself. So i did a check using command prompt as an admin and it told me "windows resource protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix them". So them concludes my little problem I have no idea what to do from here the hard drive is not making any weird noises which is always good. What should I do?

P.S I don't want to have to buy a new hard drive.

Answer:Dell Inspiron m5010 blue screen to error code 2000-0151

The message you get could mean hard disk corruption, bad sectors, a failing hard disk, Windows files or registry corruption, viruses, or memory problems. First, backup any important data that you are able to. Use the methods described in step 3 of Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7 and then do the following steps:If you are overclocking any hardware, please stop.

Run Disk Check with both boxes checked for all HDDs and with Automatically fix file system errors checked for all SSDs. Post back your logs for the checks after finding them using Check Disk (chkdsk) - Read Event Viewer Log (you may need to search for wininit instead of chkdsk).
For any drives that do not give the message:
Windows has checked the file system and found no problems
run disk check again as above. In other words, if it says:
Windows has made corrections to the file system
after running the disk check, run the disk check again.

If you have an SSD, make sure the following are up to date:SSD firmware
BIOS Version
Chipset Drivers
Hard disk controller drivers/SATA drivers
If you have a Marvell IDE ATA/ATAPI device, make sure the drivers are up to date from the Intel site or Marvell site and not from your motherboard/vendor support site.

So the other night I heard some crackling noises coming from my laptop and then the sound just stopped working altogether. I pretty frequently plug and unplug a set of external speakers in the headphone jack so I figured this might be the issue. Sure enough, when I apply pressure with my finger over the headphone jack opening the internal speakers work fine. When I release the pressure the internal speakers stop working. I kind of smacked the laptop on the side a bit and it seems to be ok for now but I'm guessing the only way to fix this permanently if the issue returns is to open the laptop and secure anything that might be loose near the headphone jack. I have never opened up my laptop before, if I do have to do this are there some precautions I should be taking to ensure I don't completely mess it up?

Got my new inspiron 7567 laptop yesterday and found out that i only heard sound through the left speaker everytime. Went through the audio test for left and right channel output on youtube and tried to windows test option in playback devices windows 10,still everytime even if the animation says it playing through left and right speakers separately i still get audio from the left speaker both times. Is there some setting i am missing out on or is it a hardware issue.please help

Answer:Audio playing through left speaker only on dell inspiron 7567 laptop

sandy5837Is there some setting i am missing out on or is it a hardware issue.
Hello. This is the audio hardware test for the laptop's internal audio hardware. It works differently from the other tests. If no sound is heard through the laptop's right speaker during that test, then the cause is hardware failure. If it passes, then it's software.
If it is software, then download and install a fresh copy of the audio driver. Get it from your model's support page, or I can give you a link. Installing a fresh copy will re-set the audio settings, which would fix it if the cause is mis-configuration of the settings.

Every since windows 10 upgrade i have been having issues with my audio. When i start a video for the first time i will hear crackling and poping noise then it will catch up after i pause the video and play again.  Then the audio slowly goes out of sync.  At first i thought that were my speakers, but it was happening over headphones as well.  I tried the latest version of driver along with switching to the windows 10 generic audio drivers.  Anyone else having issues with this?

I recently had the speakers and motherboard replaced by Dell. Unfortunately, the problem is still present. I have also attempted to use both the Realtek drivers and the "High Definition Audio" drivers.

Hello,

Thank you so much for having this great forum on the internet! If you can solve this problem I will be really happy.

Computer / Driver specs below.

PROBLEM: When I play midi sounds its very choppy. Sounds in games are ok but after 1/2 hour or so can become choppy and sound needs to be stopped and restarted. When playing WMAs WMVs or MP3s sound can become choppy after 1/2 hour and only resolution is to stop sound from playing and trying to restart application and continue from where I left off.

This began a year and a half ago so no way to pinpoint now what cause was.

NOTE:
1. I do not experience this when I play a CD on my computer.
2. Also note that when I use tunebite which passes audio through my sound card and recaptures and saves it in a different form there are no issues either. I have recorded over an hour of pristine sound with no choppyness and played this sound on an mp3 player.

I suspect that I am having a hardware issue with my dell sound card but I need a way to prove that I am not experiencing an issue with driver conflicts on my computer. I wish I could download and run a diagnostic test to find out at which level the sound is being corrupted.

I have made a detailed image map attached with all information pertaining to my sound drivers.

I bought a new Dell Inspiron 15R about two months ago now, and since I got it the sound has been messing up.

Whenever I use headphones, some sounds still come out of my speakers. It seems that if I'm listening to one piece of audio, for example a skype call, it's fine. However, if I start doing something else at the same time, for example watching a video, the audio from that video will play from my speakers instead of my headphones (looks as if some programs have priority to play out of headphones, and everything else will play from laptop speakers)

Please help, for the moment I've disabled my speakers so sounds are forced to play out of my headphones, however this disables the sounds for some programs (Minecraft, Spotify etc)

I'd love if somebody could shead some light on my problem
Thanks!

Hello Everyone.

I have a Jabra bluetooth speaker (the Solemate Mini). On Windows 8.1 I plug it in to my laptop using the 3.5mm to 3.5mm cable and then, when I watch a movie, it correctly outputs to the speaker and does not use my laptop speakers.

However, in Windows 10, no matter how many times I plug it in using the 3.5mm to 3.5mm cable I cannot get Windows to output sound to the speaker UNLESS I also connect a USB cable from the speakers USB port to my laptop, then it works.

If I disconnect the USB cable I lose sound through the speaker and it uses my laptop speakers instead.

How can I solve this please?

Many thanks.

Ian

i have a problem with the speakers/microphone on my inspiron laptop. when i'm typing, the speaker will mute, and unmute. occasionally, when playing games or watching videos, it will mute and unmute, as well. this happens when i have it in my lap and a table top. i don't know how to prevent it from doing that. it is really annoying. its very disrupting. i have only had it for a few months, and i don't know where to begin. i tried to turn off any microphones because i don't use it. but, that didn't solve the problem. any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!! thanks!

This is a common Inspiron problem and one Dell never fixed. If this is a new laptop return it for a new one. Otherwise use headphones for games and videos - cause your laptops speaker/mic will never work.

A couple days ago I noticed the sound coming out from  my laptop was horrible like a crackling sound coming from the speakers. I tried the diagnostic.. and it looks like the left speaker is not working and the right is doing that awful sound like a crackle or rattle sound. Using the bass makes it worse.  I used to have perfect stereo sound with nice bass  using Realtek Sound system configuration and Maxx waves.
what could have happened? could it be a hardware issue? I ran the test but that doesn't solve the problem.

Hello. If the diagnostic tool you used was the audio test in the ePSA daignostic, and you did not hear the test tones in the left speaker, then it has either failed or become disconnected. Connect tech support to schedule a repair.

IAMRAMKING not working even after whole restorartion.
Hello. A speaker that doesn't work after restoring with the Factory Image is because of hardware failure, either a loose connection or dead speaker.
If you want to perform another test to make sure, run the audio test in the ePSA utility (or PSA on some models). These tests are in motherboard memory and do not depend on Winows or drivers -- in other words it is a purely hardware test, so if you don't hear the sounds during the test, it means hardware failure.

If the laptop is still under warranty, contact tech support to have it repaired.

I have a brand new Dell M5010 laptop that I bought from Best Buy about a week ago. It freezes and locks up (with the famous Not Responding in the application windows) for up to 4 minutes!! i can't have this happening. I honestly run about 5 programs - FireFox, Dreamweaver, Photoshop, Outlook, and WAMP server.

I took it back to Best Buy and they had me whip it clean and do a clean install. I do not use any torrent applications or download anything, so why is this happening?? Once I whipped it clean and reinstalled all my applications, it started going it again. I can tell when it's going to happen, because I hear the processor working...it clicks...and then everything freezes. Could this be a hardware malfunction? Pain in my ***..I should have bought a mac. Long time lurker of the forum, first time poster. The info I have found here has always been so helpful that I've never needed to ask for help until now - I have one Dell's crappy and cursed over-heating laptops. Two months ago, it was barely out of warranty when the board died. After screaming and threatening to sue, Dell sent a tech to my loft (yes - IN HOME repair) and replaced it free of charge, but afterwards the fan didn't operate. Dell completely ignored my questions & complaints about this. Took me about a month, but I discovered SpeedFan, figured out how to operate it and solved that problem. While I was looking for solution, I noticed every search engine was returning the exact same findings. Most of the results didn't make sense and there were only five pages of findings, on every search engine. Hi my dell xps 13 right speaker seems to be making this weird static noise at medium (50) to high volumes (70-100). For example, when I am changing the volume of the speaker, the windows 10 default sound is made followed by this weird static noise that accompanies it. This issue is not seen below 50, is there a fix?

This is my first time posting here and I'm not the most computer-literate person out there, so please bear with me.

A good friend of mine seems to be having some kind of issue with the audio on her computer. I'm not sure of all the exact specs of her PC but I believe it's a Dell Dimension (B) desktop that she purchased about a year or two ago. There's nothing too special about it. She hasn't modified it at all or even hooked anything up to it outside of a webcam and maybe a digital camera for uploading pictures. She only uses it to surf the web and whatnot.

Anyways, a few days ago she noticed that she wasn't getting any sound from messages on Yahoo IM anymore. I walked through the preferences with her and it seemed like everything was ok there. So we went into the main sound control and all the controls were greyed out and it says "Audio Device Not Found." At this point I'm thinking there is either something wrong with an audio driver or possibly that her speakers have gone bust. But the odd thing is that she can still listen to mp3s with itunes on her speakers just fine. But seemingly EVERYTHING else is a bust on sound.

So I walked her through to the device manager and got to the audio section. When she opened the tree it seemed to recognize she had speakers plugged in (had something to the effect of "Duplexed Speakers" or something like that). And even when she went to view the properties it said the device was worki... Read more

Hi,
My dell inspiron 14z 5423 no longer have sound from both the speakers and the earphone jack.
This happened after I replaced the Battery and also the hard disk from 500gb to 1TB and upgraded to windows 10.
Before this, I was using Windows 8.1 and everything was working well. I have returned it back to windows 8.1 but the no audio problem still persist.
Also, my speaker symbol on the task bar shows a "cross" sign with "no audio output installed" displaying when I hover on the speaker icon.
Please I need help. have tried all options i can think of including driver updates.
One more thing, the sound driver are not showing up on the device manager window where other drivers are displayed.

Thanks

Hello. Download this Win8.1 IDT audio driver for the Inspiron 14z 5423. There are two versions there -- get the one that says "File Format Hard Drive". Follow the installation instructions and see if the driver shows up in Device Manager.
If it doesn't, perform the PSA or ePSA sound test. If no sound during the test then there has been hardware failure. Could have happened during parts replacement.

I am constantly having this problem with my laptop. As I plug in and unplug my headphones throughout the day, I've noticed that after a couple times the bass gets really quiet and almost completely drops out. Since I have some pretty decent audiophile headphones with really great bass, it is super annoying and noticeable.
One workaround I have discovered is to go to the audio settings (either in Windows or the Dell Audio app), and switch the Default Format (the thing with 24-bit, 48000Hz in it)  to something else, play some audio, then switch it back.
A little word on my setup: I have the latest drivers from the Dell download page installed. I am running Windows 10 64-bit with all the updates. I have Waves Maxx audio "enhancements" disabled. My Default Format is usually set to 24-bit 48000Hz, but the problem eventually happens no matter what I set it to. The "headphone size" option is set to "Medium", but as far as I can tell this option does nothing if I do not have Waves Maxx enabled. Switching it also does not fix the problem.
If I play audio using WASAPI (this basically means that the music player takes over the sound card completely, and bypasses whatever audio processing Windows and the driver has) the problem does not happen.
How do I fix this problem? It's incredibly annoying, and most likely has something to do with the audio driver, since this does not happen in Linux, and it did not happen when I was runn... Read more

My 430 G2 has an issue lately - can't make a sound. 2 days ago I noticed when it started that there was no audio - river was fine, volume was fine. Tried all the things I could find on the HP website and I finally made it work again (also did the bios audio test - it worked fine). next day - in the morning again no sound. Tried all night to fix it - nothing works updated everything, and it seems that even the bios test is failing now (error id 637BV0-7T68G9-XD7WMF-21F103). Anyone has any idea? can i fix it (and what s the issue) or do i ned to take to service?

Hi, I recently purchased a new PC and it came with on board sound with a driver from RealTek. The driver version is 5.10.0.5128. I have some Klipsch 4.1 speakers and for some reason I can get all but one speaker to work with the onboard sound. I've tried just about everything in the RealTek Audio I/O software to get it to recognize all the speakers, but it's like one of the channels is not working. Is there a reason for this that I can correct easily? Or is it possible this audio system not work with a 4.1 speaker system?

I contacted RealTek and they gave me a program to do a dump of my audio information too. I won't put it all here, but if it helps I can post it.

So far I haven't heard back from them after I sent them the dump.

Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks,
Gary

Windows 10 creator update installed, all latest updates drivers etc.
DisplayLink Manager v8.0.762.0

I have an external HDMI monitor, the problem is simple.
When the monitor is plugged in the docking station anything using that HDMI screen DOES NOT use the NVIDIA GPU, it uses the on-board Intel chip.
When connecting the monitor directly to the laptop all applications on the external monitor use the NVIDIA GPU (I have this as default in the NVIDIA control panel)

Please advise on how I can get the D3100 to work with the NVIDIA GPU.

Many thanks.

Hey guys, we'll see how good a post this is...

On vacation in October, spilled a *little* water in the keyboard of this laptop. Powered it off IMMEDIATELY and flipped it over.
For about two days it refused to boot.
On the third day it rose again; all was well except... no audio. (In the speakers or headphones.)
Naturally I assumed it was kaput.

But lo! Occasionally we'd hear a system sound. Rare, but not often. And very quiet.
After fiddling around for a few weeks I gave up on minor fixes and reinstalled Windows.

STILL the rare-and-very quiet audio. Actually, only the speakers are very quiet; IF I get sound AND I have headphones plugged in, they're just as loud as ever.

My FIRST thought is that it's a hardware issue. But that doesn't explain why a system "click" or login sound will play, and then two seconds later nothing... does it? Sometimes the sound will work for hours, and sometimes literally only for one system sound....

If I go into control panel -> sounds, the little "levels" meter next to "Speakers" dances around happily when something should be playing...

Last bit of information: when I have the headphones plugged in, I can tell if I'll get audio or not, because it seems like power to the jack must cut on and off (power saving feature?) since sometimes I'll hear a quiet hissss (and know that audio will work) but most of the time there is no hisss and no audio.

Any thoughts besides "get a new laptop, the Mini 9 is from 200... Read more

I think i have locked on closer to were the stuttering problem is coming from, so i have noticed that when fan speed goes up and down the stuttering occurs but it may not have to do with fans themselfs, so to test that i installed SPEEDFAN software and enabled dell notebooks support, when the software is running without me changing or the software changing fan speed the video still stutters and like a lot after 3-4 seconds, a 1 second stutter, so what exactly the SPEEDFAN is doing at that moment? its recording temps and fan speed at the moment using sensors, so i think it may have todo with those fan sensors being on, just may be, what do you think? For some reason, the audio is working incorrectly. Only the right speaker eminates any noise. There are rare odd instances when the left speaker will also sync and output audio. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the driver 3 times and it has not fixed the issue. But since the left speaker will come on every once in awhile, I don't believe this is a hardware issue. I also am not sure if this is a software issue since it has been reinstalled at least 3 times. Is there any fix for this issue?

If hardware then your earphone should produce sound on left and right.

Hi. I am going crazy. I have the A525 speaker system with the subwoofer attached to my desktop. I have actually had it since 2009 when I bought it new, and I just now realized it is not playing stereo properly and the sub seems to be playing full range and not just the bass.
Here's what is happening. Using windows speaker properties, I turn R channel all the way down, and I get audio out of both speakers, but it is the L channel for both. However, the Right speaker is maybe 20% louder than the left speaker while I am doing this.
When I turn the L channel all the way down, I get the R channel for both, but the right speaker is now about twice as loud as the left.
For the sub, when I have R channel all the way down, it only plays the L channel, and vice versa for the L channel. It also seems to be playing full range. Shouldn't it have a filter in it so it only gets the low freq. delivered to it?
I have hooked up a pair of good quality headphones to the soundcard output, and I get perfect stereo, so it's not that. It's in the speaker/sub system somewhere. And since the headphones work, I don't think it could be my sound drivers. Unless, I need special drivers since the speakers have a sub?!?
In case you wonder, I am using SB Audigy drivers on windows 7, and they are up to date. I have checked all the plugs and connections, but nothing seems to work.
I suspect maybe it has been this way since I bought it, and I hadn't really paid attention until recently w... Read more

I am on a Dell Inspiron 1100 and when I boot the system, most of the time, I get an error before the BIOS loads that reads as follows:

"The Device in the system modular bay cannot be identified. It may not be completely inserted or may have some other problem. Please read and complete the following steps.

1. Press the device completely and firmly into the bay.
2. Press the ESC-key -- wait for the system to power down.
3. Press the power button to retry detecting the device."

My BIOS version was just recently updated as I ran into the problem to BIOS Revision A32. I called Dell Technical Support and the support told me to remove the optical drive and reinsert it. I did as told. I booted the system up and before the BIOS loads, bam, error once again. The technical support didn't even know what to do. The support said that I may have a failing mobo. Now, how would one go about seeing if their mobo was failing? I'd really love to check this before actually going to purchase another mobo, Hell, purchasing a brand new computer or building my own considering I am sick of Dell's erroneous electronics.

Answer:Dell Inspiron modular bay issue/boot-up issue

You should first try a second hard drive with a full install. That usually fixes the problems with the 1100, 1150, 5100m, 5150, and 5160 which all seem to have the same problems.
Remember that this optical drive is fragile, and has a history of failure. New models are available with DVD RW that are quite reliable, on eBay. They range from $72 to $85 to $89 to $95. If you are good with tools, you can get the generic one, then revise the hardware to make everything fit just fine.

I have an Inspiron 15 computer and its audio fluctuates. When playing music especially on external speakers it gets louder when it's pure vocal  but goes low when the music is supposed to be loud, like when all instruments especially the bass are to be naturally cranked up on a particular song. My audio driver of course is Realtek HD which is the default among all Inspiron users I guess but I'm wondering if the problem is beyond drivers. Is there any solution to this?

Answer:No audio on Dell Inspiron 15 5567

Hi, here are some possibilities:
1. Check your Device Manager. Any yellow triangles?
2. What build of Windows were you using previously? Were you previously using the Creator's build or the Anniversary build? MS handles the drivers somewhat differently in the current Creator's build, it seems.
3. Can you try rt clicking the volume icon on the task bar, click Troubleshoot.... and post the result?
4. Try downloading the latest approved driver from your manufacturer and use that.
5. Perhaps note post #11 here for example (there are numerous threads here on no audio problems, not all will be directly relevant to you)

Just got my computer back from Dell tech support having sent it because of an issue with no audio output device installed and the red x on the toolbar. The computer is in the exact same state as before I sent it with nothing fixed. I've tried reinstalling the drivers multiple times, checked if audio services were running and all of that. Feels like a huge waste of money at this point and is especially disappointing because this computer was actually a gift for someone. Has anyone had this issue with this computer and have it resolved without resorting to an external usb sound driver?

Answer:Dell Inspiron 15 7559 No Audio

You can diagnose this by performing a system recovery (reset the laptop back to the original factory configuration.) If there is still no audio immediately after recovery, before getting on the internet, then the audio hardware has failed and Dell will have to fix it under the terms of the warranty. In other words they could not say it is a software issue and therefore not covered.
If the recovery does fix it, but the problems recurs after getting on the internet, then probably some Windows Updates-related issue.

About 3 weeks ago the sound disapeared on my Dell Inspiron E1505; I am running Vista SP1.
I have tried just about everything with no success:
restored to an earlier date when the audio was working

downloaded the Sigmatel STAC92XX-C from Dell and tried to install it in safe mode and regular
mode but I keep getting the same error message: "device object not present restart the system
& run setup again"; after I reboot Windows tries to install it by I get the error message: "the I/O
operation has been aborted because of either a thread exit or an application request".

tried installing from the XP to Vista Upgrade CD provided by Dell but same result

I was using SRS Audio Sandbox (sound enhancer which is listed as the speakers and was working great)
but got the same resulted after I uninstalled it.
I contacted Dell support and the tech who worked on the problem couldn't fix it either and left me
"hanging" for over 30 minutes until I disconnected.

I would appreciate any suggestions; I work on videos and slide shows and I need the sound.
Thanks

I've been getting no audio from my computer for about a month now.
I've checked over and over, the speakers are fine and work on other devices.
Whenever I plug in head phones through the jack I still get no audio.
I tried USB headphones they did not work either. (they weren't even detected)
This started after I'd had the Windows 10 update for awhile so I don't think that's the issue. I just woke up one morning and my computers audio didn't work. (However it was odd I had to turn on my computer the morning of even though I didn't turn it off the night before. Perhaps an audio driver update?)

I am having problem with the audio of 5537 dell laptop. When I played music, there was no sound in speaker. When i plugged two different headsets, there was still no sound. But when i lowered the volume to 50%, there was sound with buffering, and with occasional noise. Then I lowered further to 10%, the sound was clear.  When i removed the headset, plugged into jack again, there was sound static frequency like ssssssss....... and at this time of posting, the clear audio is gone, now with lower volume there is creeping noise and distorted music. But not all was that. I performed EPSA, i listened to no sound over speakers (in the pre-boot test). That might seem speaker problem, but that would be okay, since the speakers can be replaced. The problem is why it produces sound to the lowest volume in headsets? I have updated, reinstalled, then performed twice this task, got nothing. It seems there is hardware problem. ianboy76,
How long ago did this start happening, was any changes made to the system just prior to when the system lost sound?
If you haven't tried already connect external speakers or a earphones and see if you get sound then, try to find out if this is a absolutely no sound issue, or simply that the integrated speakers aren't working.
Check the playback devices and make sure that the correct one is set to default, right click on the speaker icon on the taskbar and choose playback devices; Windows may show a number of different playback devices, look for Realtek High Definition Audio, is it set to default and if not what is? Right click Realtek and choose default click on the test, do you hear sound now? If not, test the other playback devices in the same way and see if you get sound back.
Do a search for Dell Audio and if listed select the Dell Audio Utility and run it. Check here to see if the speakers are muted, click the advanced tab and if nothing else seems to help choose to restore defaults.
I will be sending a friendship request but please report back here with the results.

I am using the Inspiron 7566 and I saw that this laptop has a front speakers and one at the bottom. However, I am only able to access to the speaker at the bottom but not the front, can I know is there a way to have the sound come out both way (bottom and front)?
Note: When I go into Playback devices setting,I can test out the front two speaker. And when I fully turn off the "Subwoffer", I am able to hear the front speaker, but soft sound.
Thank you.

Hi, 1st post here, just ordered a Dell Inspiron 3250.
I'm wondering how to cable for 5.1 surround sound.
I've seen nothing in the manuals about it, maybe I'm blind, point me to it if it exists and sorry...
Can you configure the line in/line out/mic so that you get 6 channels (5.1) out of them?
My receiver is a little old and does not have a HDMI input, only optical and 6 RCA jacks.
Thanks a lot,
Ed

Hi,
I purchased a new Dell inspiron 5567 few months back.
I updated all the drivers via windows update but i am unable to hear any audio from the speakers.
I checked the drivers via device manager but still unable to reach any solution.
When i plug in the headphone jack, i can listen to the audio via headphones only.
My OS is Win 10 64bit.
In addition, the dell dell support page shows quite a few drivers available even after updating the latest ones via windows update
Looking for your suggestions.

Thanks

So this is a very difficult issue to explain, but I have had multiple replacements for this laptop and this has been happening on all of them.
If I am listening to audio (ANY audio- Be it YouTube, Groove Music, Windows Media Player, VLC, some video on Facebook, etc.), and I pause it or I just started playing it (In other words, when I press Play), the sound is very loud.  I then press the Volume Down key, which immediately puts it back to the lower volume it was at before (The volume percentage was not any higher when it got louder).
I have no idea what causes this.  Actually, I had this problem on my original also and it stopped.  I believe I fixed that one by uninstalling MAXX Audio, but I'm not sure how to do that.  Would that make sense as a solution, and how do I uninstall it?  Only Realtex High Definition Audio Driver appears in Programs and Features.
I am on Windows 10, but it happened on Windows 8 and 8.1 as well.  This model has given me so many issues, it's amazing Dell didn't do a recall.

Thanks!

Answer:Problem with my Audio (DELL Inspiron 15 3521)

There has been a recent Windows update that is causing widespread havoc with audio. I suggest first trying the solutions for that before trying other things. Here are the 2 solutions that forum members have reported so far.
===========================================================================
1st POSSIBLE SOLUTIONForum member countiss wrote that it is due to Microsoft....
"Update KB2962407, which that states it fixes "Shortened battery life when an idle audio device is not turned off on a computer running Windows".You do not have to do a System Restore to get rid of the Updates; easier to go to Windows Update, View Update History. On the top of that screen, click on Installed Updates. Then just right-click the update you want to uninstall."
=============================================================================
2ND POSSIBLE SOLUTIONForum member natakuc4 says that updating to Windows 8.1 will fix it. He wrote:
"If you are still on Windows 8.0. You should upgrade from Windows 8.0 to Windows 8.1. See the instructions here:http://dellwindowsreinstallationguide.com/download-microsoft-windows-and-office/download-microsoft-windows/upgrading-to-windows-8-1-from-windows-8-0-via-the-microsoft-store/Uninstall the audio and video drivers before the update. After the update uninstall the network and chipset drivers and get the Windows 8.1 (WB64A) drivers.."
You can get the drivers he mentions either from your model's support page after ... Read more

If you have tried it on 2 tv's already, it's more than likely your ports.
Try updating your sound card drivers and enable stereo mixer in the control panel to make sure.

I have a Dell Inspiron 3668 with Window 10 Home.
In the latest Microsoft update: July 11, 2017—KB4025342 (OS Build 15063.483), and the previous one from June 13, 1017, my computer has an issue with the audio.
When I plug in my headphones/earbuds, the audio has an echo type effect to it; the sounds are extremely left or right (there is no balance in the middle). It is as if I am listening to the sound behind me, or in the distance. I have tested this audio with videos, music, and games, and compared the sound balance issue with other devices (laptop, phone, mp3) by testing the same audio files.
I have already reinstalled the Realtek HD Audio Diver and I have adjusted the audio enhancements in the WAVES MaxxAudioPro audio - the issue persists.
The spatial sound is turned off and all enhancements are disabled in the Sound options.
Also, under the “Sound, video, and game controllers” section in “Device Manager,” there are two devices: Intel® Display Audio and Realtek Audio. Is it normal to have both of these present? Is there a method to disable the updates from automatically adjusting the audio?
This computer is less than two months old. I don't want to return it.
Please help me fix this audio problem.

Answer:Dell Inspiron 3668 Audio Problem

Hi GingerSnapz,Thanks for posting. If the driver is already up to date. This may be resolved by disabling realtek audio in device manager -> restart -> enable. If updating drivers doesn't work, the problem might not be caused by drivers. You can try to run Audio Troubleshooter and see if it helps. Refer steps below:1. Type "Troubleshoot" in Windows search.2. Click "Playing Audio" then follow the on-screen instructions.

I had audio about a week ago. I downloaded a "Trial Version" of Microsoft Office 2010 and realized the next day that I did not have audio. I cannot hear the online news, YouTube music or my WAV files. I contacted Microsoft and they transferred me to a technical specialist who asked me if I had bought the product. I said no and he said he could not help me! I then removed the Microsoft Office 2010 hoping that my sound would return, but it did not. Please help! Hello,
I am using Windows 10, and my sound from my audio jacks has stopped working for headphones and external speakers. My USB headphones work fine and can record sound, but they jacks allow nothing. The computer recognizes my speakers in the audio devices, and they hum when I turn them up, but again, the sound is not working.

Thank you for writing to us.
I would ask you to check & advise how does the system respond in the following situation,
*Restart the system in safe mode with networking and confirm if the same issue seen with headphones & speakers.
*check if you have Conexant SMART AUDIO  listed in the device manager under audio devices if it is then uninstalling the Conexant SMART AUDIO software fixes the audio issue, restart the system once this is done.
Also do send the service tag of the system via private message so that I can check system specifications before assisting you further.

Hello Dell,
I have a Dell Inspiron 3668 with Waves Maxx Audio Pro installed.  I have been trying to figure out how to get RID of the echo/reverb sound that spews forth from my speakers.  I've been reading everyone else's post about the same stuff and the only answer that seems to be given is to uninstall and then re-download the realtek drivers and I think reinstall Waves Maxx Pro.  My question is this: can we dispense with all the install and uninstalls and use something else?  I have no idea what else to use, but the last time I bought a Dell computer I used Turtle Beach soundcard and software, maybe this is an option.  I despise the sound that my speakers are making at this moment.  There has to be some other software that can be used since it appears that realtek and maxx audio pro are fighting each other.  Come on guys, most of us WANT a positive music experience with our computers and I am one of them. Figure something else out for us.....

Answer:HELP Us Out with These Dell Inspiron 3668 Audio Issues

All we can do is report the issues and wait for them to update the drivers and software. But, I would never use the integrated audio card. I would install a good discrete audio card that will provide a better sound. The Inspiron 3668 motherboard has two PCIe x1 slots (15 and 16 below) =

You could disable the onboard Realtek ALC3820 audio in the BIOS and install a discrete PCIe x1 sound card. Here is one from Creative for $37. Or check your local PC store for one.

After i completely dignosed the issue it seems to me that there are problems in BIOS, Drivers and thermal management as when I start playing a game (GTA 5, Battlefiels 1) i runs smooth for 5 minutes but after that i starts lagging and freezing. I have also run some benchmarks but results are similarly as there is the issue of cpu thermal throttling. And audio distortion is due to unstable and poor compatibility drives. In dell forms i read people saying that all this is caused due power management issues which i have also noticed as when CPU is idle is consumes around 20 watt at 50°C but when put under load it once reaches 50 watt of peak usage at 100°C but with in few seconds it thermal throttles and used only 15 watt at 80°C which is even less than idle speed which causes many problems and freezing also all with in few minutes of gaming or proper use. Many uses are facing same problems as i have read on reddit and dell community form but not all the systems are affected as the review units that some YouTube channels and Websites like Laptop Mag reviewed did not exibit such problems or otherwise the reviews are fake. I don't know why dell is not solving the issues and sending me the same problematic Laptop again for the third time.

So i'm having a bit issues with my inspiron 530 desktop. My computer has been working fine until I decided to switch my current power supply. I got the other power supply from my other pc which I do not use anymore. After plugging cables in my pc turned on by itself and then turned off after a split second. After that it didn't turn on. I switched back to my other power supply which was working fine. My results was that my pc turns on itself when the power cord is plugged into the wall. Now there is no display shown but everything was working fine before. Also, the power button does not work either after. Im not sure if everything is plugged in properly. Can anyone show me the inside of their inspiron 530? Please help!

Hello All,

I thought I would post an interesting Installation of Windows I did on my Dads 2006 Dell Inspiron 6000. I am posting it in the Drivers section because Dell never made a Audio driver for the Inspiron 6000 past Windows XP. I had to do this trick for Widows 7, so I thought I would try on Win 8.

There were a lot of post on how to install the drivers onto Widows 7 back in 2009. This link from the SevenForums helped me install Win 7 on this laptop. So I decided to try the same thing on Windows 8. Dell Inspiron 6000 audio drivers - Windows 7 Forums

1. Installed Windows 7 32 Bit - Processor does not support 64.
2. Installed Sigmatel STAC 9200 series audio driver 6.1 for Windows Vista
3. Upgraded to Windows 8 32 Bit
4. DONE and running like a champ.

I would like to add that Many other Vista and Win7 Drivers should help prolong other older generation computers/Laptops. I have done the same trick to a Gateway M475 with success.......

You loose nothing by trying.

I will at some point be trying this as a Fresh Install, Buts its Dad Computer so.........

Over the last few weeks, after booting the computer, the speaker icon would display with a red "X".  Sometimes the "X" would clear itself and sound could be heard, other times it didn't clear and rebooting was often helpful.  Now, the red "X"is there constantly and I cannot get any sound.
I have downloaded and installed the Realtek HD Audio Driver but that hasn't helped.  The sound icon displays, "No audio Device is Installed" message.  The Sound Control Panel shows no devices installed.
Where would I look to make sure the driver installed properly?
Open to any suggestions.

Answer:Why don't I have audio after downloading Windows 10 on my Dell Inspiron laptop?

While your audio driver may be showing up-to-date, it still may be the wrong version for Windows 10.
I would recommend uninstalling the driver completely, then reinstalling new drivers from the Dell website. Make sure Dell has drivers specifically for Windows 10 for your specific laptop.

What you need to do, is to click on this link:
Download Audio Drivers for Dell Inspiron 1525 Notebooks

This will 'download' the audio driver file, R170217.EXE, to your computer. This file (R170217.EXE) will probably end up on your Desktop.

Double-click on this file, to run it. This should re-install the 'audio driver' for your computer.

Answer:Dell inspiron 5558 audio problem with windows 10

Hello. Test the audio driver by switching between the Realtek driver and the Windows native audio driver.1. Open the Device Manager (find it in the Control Panel, or type devmgmt.msc into the search box).2. Expand the "Sound, video & game controllers" and right click on "Realtek High Definition Audio".3. Select to "Update Driver Software".4. Click on "Browse my computer for driver software".5. Click "Let me pick from a list of drivers on my computer".6. Put a check in the box "Show compatible hardware" if not already checked [but SEE NOTE].7. In the list of devices, click "High Definition Audio" (the native driver).8. Click "Next".9. On the Update Driver Warning box, click "Yes" (install the driver). 10. Restart the laptop if prompted. If not prompted, sometimes you have to restart, sometimes not.[To get back to the Realtek driver, do it again but reverse the names in steps 2 and 7.]NOTE: if you have a 2-in-1 model and do not see a "High Definition Audio" option after step 6, then uncheck "Show compatible hardware". Then in step 7, if you see 2 "High Definition Audio" devices, select the 2nd one.If you only have the symptoms with the Realtek driver, then the other is at fault and you should try using the Windows 8 version that worked for you before you installed the new operating system.
If you have the same symptoms with both audio drivers, then it... Read more

So I got a microphone the other day, it wasn't working on my laptop, so I decided to download the Dell audio driver to make sure I hadn't missed an update or anything. It didn't make the microphone work (it was a cheap *** mic anyway), I wasn't super surprised by that. What DID surprise me was after downloading Dell's driver, from Dell's own site, the audio coming from my speakers was cut by about 2/3rds. So now playing any audio has to be done at 80 - 100% volume rather than 20 - 30% like before. Is there any way I can fix this? After all, it only happened AFTER using Dell's provided software.

Hi

Not knowing if your driver is off a driver CD or a newly downloaded one from Dells support site, I would go with downloading the driver again off Dell and install the Intel Chipset driver first then the Sigmatel Audio driver http://support.dell.com/support/dow...D=INS_PNT_P4_2600&os=WW1&osl=en&catid=&impid=

I got my Dell Inspiron 5767 about 6 months ago. At first everything was alright, up until 1 month ago when the mouse and audio started stuttering. After some net research, I found out that the Dell software for updating drivers (basically Dell Support) was the main cause and i uninstalled it. After that everything was great, until yesterday. Randomly it started stuttering again. But kind of stopped when I connected the power cable. So it calmed down, and half an hour ago I just closed the lid for 10 minutes and when I opened it it stutters again. Its very frustrating that I can't find any solution anywhere. I did the diagnostics and everything passed.Any suggestions would be great!

Hello fellow forum users, I have a problem on my hands I haven't been able to figure out myself in anyway. When I try to connect the bluetooth on my laptop (a Dell Inspiron 15 N5050) to my family room bluetooth sound system to play music through the system, it finds it in the "add device" section. However, as soon as it tries to connect to the system it always fails in some way. It's told me many things before. If it does add it it complains about no drivers? I've got all the correct drivers (I think I got them all at least) and yet it says something like no drivers found for the speaker system. This started to happen when I wiped the HDD for the laptop to help it's performance speed (helped a lot) and after reinstalling Windows 7 Ultimate x64, this is now the only problem I have. I'll attach a few pictures... Thanks in advance. Also the WiFi+Bluetooth card is a Dell Wireless 1701 Half size card. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance(again).

Answer:Dell Inspiron 15 N5050 No Bluetooth Audio Drivers?

That sounds like a problem with the Vizio (no drivers) rather than a driver problem in the PC.

Have you checked Vizio to see if they have any Windows drivers?

In case it is a PC driver issue, make sure you have all the drivers installed from Dell.
Product Support | Dell US

BTW, avoid Windows 10 on this model. Dell has a note that they do not support Win 10 for this model.
