New MB works fine but no beep...?

Question: New MB works fine but no beep...?

My new ASUS motherboard arrived this morning. removed and installed the new motherboard and booted up for the first time POST was successful which is a blessing for any system builder. Although, it was lacking the proverbial BEEP. So I am thinking, it must be the internal speaker, maybe I put the connectors backwards. checked all the cables and they are all connected and present.

Motherboard: ASUS Crosshair V Formula-Z 990FX
Processor: AMD FX Series 8150 3.61Ghz
CPU Cooler: Hydro Seriesô H100 Extreme Performance Liquid CPU Cooler
RAM: Corsair XMS3 8GB DDR3 1600Mhz
SSD: OCZ Agility 120GB X3 SATA III
HDD1 Gamr Drive only
HDD2 Backups
Soundcard: Creative SB Recon 3D Champion
OS: Windows 8 Pro

No problem because I have across this before, so I updated the BIOS to the latest stable version. to my surprise this didn't resolve the issue. it boots fine it POSTS with no issues and I can access the BIOS. There are a few other things I can try. Take out all the RAM and then see if the motherboard haves a screaming fit and beeps like crazy at me. I shall try this later. I have created a small beep.bat file which consists of the following.

Within CMD I typed in the following command. cd desktop so you create a txt file on your desktop called beep.txt
Code:
echo. echo. ^G >> beep.txt
Open the beep.txt file and in there you'll find echo. [] The square represents a BEL tone which is sent to the speaker. I you use Notepad++ it will look like this
Code:

@echo off
echo. Press any key...?
pause
echo. [B]BEL[/B]
There is a way in which you can bypass external speakers attached and only send a BELL tone to the internal speak attached to your motherboard but I cannot remember the commands.

Any hep would be appreciated, I cannot understand how a speak that worked fine before on the other motherboard now doesn't beep. Unless the speaker is turned off within the BIOS but I could't find anything.

Preferred Solution: New MB works fine but no beep...?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: New MB works fine but no beep...?

You could always try holding down a key
on the keyboard while the computer is booting.
The keyboard buffer should fill up and the computer
should start beeping at you.

Hello guys!

I recently built a new gaming desktop, reusing my PSU and HDD/SSD combo from my old build. All three are known good and tested as such. Here is the current parts list:

AMD Ryzen 5 1600 (NON-X version) with stock AMD branded cooler
Asrock AB350 Pro4 with newest BIOS update
Zotac GTX 960 2GB
EVGA 750 watt semi-modular PSU
Team.. something brand DDR4 memory, 2x4GB (8gb total, installed in slots A2/B2)
OSZ TRION 240G, Toshiba 1TB HDD
Thermaltake Silencer F31 case with 3 fans total plugged into motherboard fan headers (if this matters)

Every once in a while when I try and boot the computer, the motherboard will beep at me 5 times, denoting a CPU error. I have to unplug EVERYTHING from the back panel for it to actually post.

I've tried narrowing down what causes this but it just fails to post with anything plugged in. I have a Corsair K70 non-rgb keyboard, Logitech G400s mouse, ethernet, 3.5mm audio out, and DVI moniter plugged in. Nothing plugged into the front panel.

Once it does boot up, everything is just fine. Browsing about, playing video games, doing work is all just perfect. It'll last another few boot/shutdown cycles and start beeping again. Once that happens, like I said before I have to unplug everything and try again.

What would cause this to happen? I still have all the receipts for these parts as it's only been 2 weeks that I've built this, so if needed I can return/exchange parts for new ones. Under load the GPU temp stays under ... Read more

I have searched for this problem and can't find it anywhere. Every few minutes my IBM Access Connections keeps shutting down, then restarting all by itself. I usually don't have to do anything to restart it, but once in a while it takes too long to restart, so I reconnect manually. I don't know if it makes any difference, but it didn't happen until I downloaded Google Chrome. I've installed Service Pack 3, but no change. And while I'm at it, my laptop will no longer restart when I click "restart". It just powers off. Hello, thatīs a strange behavoir. It seems that google chrome had problems with AC and interferred with it.I would suggest uninstall and then install google chrome. See if AC is functioning as designed when google is uninstalled. Or try to download the newest verson of AC from driver page of Lenovo.Look at the link supports&downloads, on the very top of this page! greetsAndreas

Hi
I am getting beep sounds when i turn on my dell inspiron n5010.
Nothing is showing up other than beep sounds.
Please help me out

Answer:RE: Dell Inspiron 15 - 3000 series - Beep Beep Beep Pause Beep Beep Beep

Hi Ganny,
What are the exact # of beeps in a cycle?
Kindly review this chart and see page# 47 - it will help isolate the source of the issue.
Based on the exact # of beeps, that part would need to be replaced.
Also, please click my DELL-username and write me a private message with the service tag and your Name for case records.
Let us know if you have any other queries.

Hi,
My laptop here is a Dell Inspiron 15, 3000 series.
The laptop itself works perfectly fine, I am able to get into windows (which I installed myself, it originally came with Ubuntu).
Occasionally though, it will do a BEEP BEEP BEEP PAUSE BEEP BEEP BEEP PAUSE (repeats).
This happens on boot and sometimes when I am using it. Sometimes it turns off suddenly when I am shifting the computer around. It's extremely loud.

What is causing this? The sound seems to be coming from around the area the Memory banks are under the laptop, but nothing seems to suggest that anything is wrong.
I took a suggestion and used FN+Power to do Hardware Diagnostics which said nothing is wrong.

What else can I try?

Thanks!

Answer:Dell Inspiron 15 - 3000 series - Beep Beep Beep Pause Beep Beep Beep

Hi,
I’d suggest that you follow the steps mentioned below and check if the beep pattern repeats.

Switch off the computer.
Disconnect the AC adapter from the system.
Remove the battery from the computer.
Press and hold down the power button for 15 seconds.
Then connect back all the peripherals and check if the beep pattern repeats and reply us with the beep count.

If you still receive 3 Beeps on the system then it indicates System board failure.. You will have to replace it on the laptop.
Please let me know the findings.

Hey,

I've been doing some online gaming (world of warcraft), and I kept getting these Error#131 issues. This would cause the game files to become corrupted and then I would have to repair, or reinstall. The WoW tech site says that chronic error #131 messages are either a Hard drive, Ram, or Motherboard issue.

Running the Windows Vista memory diagnostic tool has turned up some odd results, the initial test with a 1gb stick in slot #1 and a 1gb stick in slot #2 came back with errors. I then removed the ram from slot 2 and ran the test on slot 1 with 1 stick of ram.... no errors. I did the same with the other stick in slot 1.....no errors. this lead me to believe that it was slot#2 giving me the issue so I moved the ram from slot 2 to slot 3, thus having 1gb of ram in slot 1 and 1gb of ram in slot 3. After a little while......error#131 appeared.

So I then tested both sticks in slots 1 and 3 together and came back with ram errors, I then tested both sticks in slot #1, and then again in slot #2 and both tests came back fine. Any ideas on what this issue could be? I know both sticks are the same brand, speed, totally identical.

Answer:Ram Works fine in single sticks, not working fine together :P

Probably this is something simple in IE7 options/settings but I failed to figure it out.

This is happening on my desktop (am writing this on my laptop). It's failing to connect, with the exception being "secure" sites - https://....

Email is working fine.

Thanks
LSPSWR

PS this happened after we did Microsoft livecare free scan and implemented corrective actions (malware/virus deletions); it then prompted us to reboot, then indicated new Windows updates to install, and then it prompted us to re-install IE7

Any idea why my computer would appear to boot up fine, but not give me my normal POST beep? Also, should I get the POST beep on restart, or only coming up from a completely downed system?

Answer:Boots fine...no POST beep...

Before you do any more advanced troubleshooting, check that the "speaker" cable is properly connected to your motherboard. I built a system 3-4 years ago and never had a startup beep because the speakers built into the case were not connected until two days ago, when I decided to clean the dust out of my case.

I think the standard system "beep" is also tied to this input device. Does that work?

Hi, after a long time I came back, settled in Toronto I found myself in need of superior assistance from the pros.

Not my laptop but a friends, by chance during lunch he mentions his webcam doesn't work anymore which surprised me cause I had to hold onto his laptop for 3 weeks while he was out of Canada, in any case I take a look and yes, webcam shows in use by another application, yet the webcam looks off and even skype is off, so instinct kicks and AV is not working, Win updates won't connect nor MB will update...tried to run Kas online...install closes by itself, and so it happens with every other malware detection program I tried, so I tell him to don't use it while I come back the next day and take it home, he managed to install and run some programs after googling around, in any case I have the laptop with me and so I decided to get help.

Hey guys, just a shot in the dark question, but:

I put a fresh install of windows 7 64-bit on this PC I built for my sister, and everything appears to go fine. However, after updating the bios, and installing the gfx card drivers, she tells me that when she presses the power on button, she gets a blue screen, the computer reboots, and then everything is fine.

Ideas as to what that might mean? If this is too little to go on, I'll head over there asap and go through the whole process, I just want a starting point.

Thank you for your time

Small edit: the system specs of my profile are the ones for her computer.

Answer:Press power button, blue screen after beep, then fine.

Check for a dump report. If you have one post it.

Hi, I recently built a custom computer and the minute I turn it on, it immediately has 2 short beeps, and 1 loud irritatingly long beep... At first I figured it was because there was no OS installed, however the beep still continued after I installed XP successfully. I can successfully boot up Windows, install drivers/program and there is no visible problems. One thing I did afterwards was go into the bios and loaded optimal performance defaults. Surprisingly, the loud long beep disappeared, but the 2 short beeps continued and instead of the annoying long beep that follows right after, I receive the "successful boot beep" sound that I heard a million times in my previous computers. Dunno how to describe that sound but... its the beep sound that goes off on a successful post I believe. If there is ONE symptom, I found out that in the BIOS menu the keyboard response is EXTREMELY slow. For example, if I press the down arrow key, there is a 3~4 second lag before going down the menu. What does this imply? This happens in both my USB and ps/2 keyboards.Again, no visible problems after boot up but I'm concerned about problems that may prop up later along the road. I still have time to return/replace parts so I'd like to find out exactly what the problem is. Any recommendations?BTW my motherboard is an MSI G31M3-L V2 with an AMI bios. Ram is a Corsair DDR2 PC2-6400 Twin XMS(2gbx2). Listing these because it seems if there is hardware problem, its usually these two th... Read more

I understand that this means there is a system board error.  I have a very good reason to believe that the BIOS had an issue (when I checked it before this happened, it had 75 boot options listed and said the volitale memory was almost full). Question: can I somehow force the BIOS to reset itself?  Is there a pin short I can use for this? Of course I am 2 weeks out of warranty :/  I assume if I sent it in they would just charge for a boarsd swap... likely $500-$600 dollars. Thanks for any help!

Answer:X230 1 beep, 3 beep, 3 beep, 1 beep, no screen: can I reset the BIOS?

1-3-3-1 means no memory. If you have 2 DIMMs, try with just one, then just the other. When you try with just one DIMM, it needs to go into slot-0. When you have the machine sitting lid-down and the battery compartment away from you, slot-0 is the one on the right.

The computer I just built is working fine and everything seems to be great, except for a periodic beep that I get and can't figure out it's cause. The beep is probably about every half hour or hour. I suspect it may have something to do with my Shuttle AK32 motherboard, but I don't know how to get rid of it. Has anyone had a similar problem and or may have any suggestions.

Answer:Periodic Beep, Computer works great

Try stopping background applications you have running, when the beeps stop, you have your cause.

Hi guys, I connect to my router using a Netgear WG111v3 USB adapter with WPA security. It works fine for about 5-10 minutes then websites won't load anymore. I am using Vista so I can't use my onboard network card because Vista doesn't support WPA
I can ping websites still which makes me wonder where the problem lies. For example I can go on google fine, then later I can't connect again but I can still ping it. That goes for all other websites even if I haven't gone on them that boot. Anyone got any ideas what is going wrong? Because it makes no logical sense for this to be happening. Thanks.

So later you can still ping google, but it will not let you view google using your browser?

Answer:XP works fine WIN 7 reboots

You can run diagnostics on the hard drive by downloading Seatools and making a bootable disc. Do the short and long test.

If either test fails, the drive needs to be replaced.

Hey all. First time poster, long time lurker!

Ive had my i5 rig running on XP pro for a bit and then decided to upgrade to win7 Ultimate. installed 32bit fine, decided to go to 64bit. Install gets all the way through then reboots (which im told will happen). once its rebooted, install gets about 80% of the way through and says 'Windows 7 cannot configure your hardware to complete the install' or something of the like. what gives?!

ps- the 64 bit install was on recently formatted drive!

Computer specs:

Intel i5 760
Asus P7P55D mobo
Asus EAH4650 1GB VGA
2 x 2GB Corsair XMS3 DDR3 RAM
1 x WD Caviar Black 500GB HDD (Install drive)

help! please!!

Answer:32-bit works fine, cant install 64-bit?

First thing I would suggest is that you remove all non essential external hardware, (usb drives Etc), if present.

One other trick that has worked (more with vista than win7) is to remove one of your memory sticks for the install

Hi,I've been experimenting with new designs for my new site and came up with a menu like this after some fiddling with css:click hereas you can see the menu buttons are all the same size and the whole box is the link.I'm working on another project at the moment and thought i'd try and implement that menu into it, and play around with it and see what i got. so i copied the EXACT stylesheet code, and put the same class on the links as done in my site and this is what i get:click hereas you can see, they are quite different!so, does anyone know why its doing this? i've probably missed something stupid out. but i'm getting angry with this now!please ignore the colours, i was just putting in random colours!so any help is great. i probably wont be aable to reply again until tomorow. Thanks,Tom

Answer:css - works fine one place, not the next

For a start you have different body margins. One is set with the following style snippet which should really be written into your main CSS file in the body section:<style type="text/css"><!--body { margin-left: 1px; margin-top: 1px; margin-right: 1px;}--></style>The other page has html coded margins, which is a bit of a no no:<body leftmargin="2" topmargin="2" marginwidth="2">Now, you've also used the table value of height="99%" which is not an acceptable attribute if you are chasing valid code, so that's one thing to look into. You've used broadly similar HTML but both pages break on any browser other than IE. Your first link in Mozilla has the Home and About Me links on one line, slightly hidden by the Photos link on the next line, the wallpapers and links buttons are on the following line followed by Portfolio, then CV, each on their own line and then last there's a long gap of a line or two and your Contact link is all on its own. All the links are the same width as the text in them, so in the case of your CV button, the button is two characters wide.I've only had a brief look at the actual CSS file but there are some issues with it.To my knowledge there is no CSS value for border-align: but you have that included in your CSS file. You have a psuedo-class specified as A.menu:HOVER which is illegal.Let's say you want link's on a menu to do certain things. You create your menu formatting first then you create you menu links, as follows:.menu {CSS stuff in here}.m... Read more

Hi everyone,

My current configuration is:

Athlon XP 1800+
512 MB
HD 80GB Hitachi
Asus CD-RW
Windows XP

I changed the power supply for a new 350W one and it works fine, but I haven't been able to boot the system yet.
If I connect everything up the only thing that will turn on is the fan of the processor and the power supply itself, but neither the HD or the CD-RW will.
But if I disconnect the data cable from the motherboard both components will turn on.
The HD is set as master and the CD-RW is slave, and they are plugged with the same data cable and same power chord.
I tried another power supply and everything works fine, but using that one on that computer is not an option.
I googled a couple of things like "change power supply" but none of them worked out.

Thanks very much in advance

We have a computer (just so happens to be a dell) that we are having problems with. For some reason it seems to not like windows nt and only windows nt. Two nights ago the computer crashed. When you start windows nt the does some what of a lock up at the windows nt screen. you can still move the mouse but it just sits there. When you try to reinstall, it starts loading the drivers from the cd into the ram. Once it gets to cd-rom file system, the screen flashes and reboots the computer. We have swapped out every piece of hardware except the processor and mb. The computer has absololutly no problem installing windows 2000 or windows xp. I find this a little odd. Any ideas what might cause this?

Hi.

When I start my computer, it freezes when windows is starting, the when I reboot it goes fine, I type my ID/pass then everything goes ok for about 2-3 mins when it freezes.
The funny thing is that if I immediately play an mp3 with winamp and keep it, it never freezes..!!! so thats what I am doing to prevent from freezing.

What is the problem ??
I am sure it is a hardware problem.. it freezes with XP, 2000 as well as 2003. Surely the key to solve this problem is that it never freezes when an mp3 is playing !!

any clue ?
thanks guys !

System Configuration
P3 866Mhz,
256 MB SDRAM
Intel 810e (or 815) Chipset
40GB Hard Disk
1 Samsung CDROM drive - 52X
1 combo drive(cd writer + DVD)

Till recently I was running Windows 98 SE plus Windows XP Professional.
Recently I needed to install Linux on my system so I removed all partions from my 40GB hard disk and created new partitions for windows leaving around 6GB unformatted for Linux.
After formatting the windows partitions, I installed XP Prof. from the bootable cd.
Next I installed Mandrake Linux 9 on the system.
Things worked fine for a day or so after which Windows started hanging and restarting unexpectedly and with increasing frequency.
Amazingly, this restarting problem occurred in Linux too..
Doubting the installation, I repartitioned, reformatted, reinstalled XP from various installation cds but to no avail. The restarting problem still exists.
Now I have installed Windows 98 SE where there is NO problem of restarting.
Again, if I try to install XP as an upgrade to 98, either the setup itself hangs/restarts or if I am able to complete the setup ,XP continues to restart and hang randomly..

I think I have checked the RAM to be in place and not loose.
Besides, the CPU fan has been unmounted and cleant of all dust..
But this has not helped the situation.

Incidentally, I discovered, that the grounding of the PC plug point was not working properly and I was getting current on various parts of the CPU cabinet.
Though Iíve got this fixed now, could this be rel... Read more

Answer:xp keeps restarting but 98 works fine

Any chance of substituting another power supply?

It's possible Win98 is starting ok, just due to putting less of a load on the PSU -- although I would expect that to be true of linux as well...

You might have had some damage there due to the bad grounding or excess current drawn.

And you certainly could have damaged motherboard components as well -- have a look for swollen, charred or leaking capacitors for one ....

I really think this may belong in the Hardware forum, as I probably won't have much else to say. If you want me to move it, just say so.

I've recently bought the Lenovo Z510 i7, and like anyone here I was also unsatisfied by the partitions pre-deployed by the manufacturers. I made my researches before taking any risks (it was obvious that there is the One Key recovery application that depends on the recovery partition to function properly).I needed to repartition C: and extend it, get another 100GB partition for Ubuntu (I'm a Linux fan BTW) , and a larger personal one.So I took the risk and followed the following thread which seemed risky, rational and helpful : https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/IdeaPad-Y-U-V-Z-and-P-series/For-NEW-system-how-to-re-partition-AND-mak... But what I realized that after partitioning and without changing the serial number of the partitions in step (8) I made a test to checkout the functionality of OKR .... and TADAA!!! it worked fine  ; both the lenovo key and the application on windows responded with any issues. Also I tried to start a backup process and it started. But to be honest I have not tried to recover anything (thinking that as long as the backup was initiated, why won't it restore). Finally, I can't assume if this is applicable on all ideapads with latest OKR versions or NOT, so my OKR version is 8.0.0.2105 and further research about this version would be great since it seems that lenovo guys have made some changes to allow the application to respond normally toward partitioning. If you came with any results or updates please share, it might be of great bene... Answer:Cannot boot from cd but everything works fine.

I have a 2007 Compaq Notebook..it is Compaq Presario..C555NR. I am very new to this world & have many problems doing the simple things. I can do E-mail & surf the web, otherwise no luck. My p.c. is very, very slow in starting & closing, so like a dummy, I tried a few things today. Not much luck, but now the arrow or cursor will not scroll up or down, I lost something fooling around where I didn't belong. It works o.k. for all the other moves..but..up/down..I tried looking up some help items like from HP, but the tech stuff was too deep for me, I was lost. So I am here asking for some very simple , easy for me to follow ways to solve this..if it's too deep--I;ll drown. Thanks for any help.

Answer:Arrow won't go up or down..otherwise works fine.

Have you tried to reboot the computer? Sometimes rebooting will correct that type of problem.

i know i'm completely new here but I'm having some issues with my system. i recently got some new parts to rebuild my system, trying to stay on the cheap side and watch my budget. im not a hardcore gamer but i do play some fairly new titles. what i've bought so far: ath. xp2700+, 1gb (2x512) ddr400, radeon 9600pro 256mb agp8x, and a board which is the only part i have not recieved yet.

yesterday I put my cpu, video, and ram on my dads board just to check things out. everything worked fine. installed the video drivers, etc. installed a couple games, farcry being one, and tested a few things. all was good. well my dad wanted his pc back . so i took all my parts out and put his back in, (keep in mind i use a wrist grounder or whatever you wanna call it). later on that night I redid the same thing again. i put my parts in, turned it on, did a few things here and there and the thing freezes on me. i had done everything exactly as before. i restart and this time the windows log in screen doesnt show up but just shows a black screen with a mouse pointer. after a couple more attempts i finally get into windows. i do a few things here and there, try to play a game again and it continues to freeze. now it works for around 5-10 minutes and freezes.

also the fsb is 333 which the mobo supports.

the only thing that concerns me is the board specs say it supports ddr ram up to 2700... but i'm using ddr 3200... it worked great the first time... Read more

I have a MSI-875P neo motherboard with 512MB PC3200 DDR400 made by Infinion. I also have an ATI Radeon 9600 Pro card, and 3 Ghz prescott chip. My problem is that I cant see anything on the Monitor. POST comes on fine but I cant see anything. I know the Monitor works because ive used it with another computer. I have no Idea if my video card is working or if I have the wrong memory installed. I tried my old video card which is a Nvidia GeForce2 MX400 and I get the same result. Maybe it is not compatible with the two other motherboards. I also have a New ECS 848-P motherboard and when I try switching the motherboards I get the same result. I know the CPU works because it is brand new too. Most of these things were bought because of this problem. By the time I'll fix this problem I will probably have enough spare parts for another computer. I need help.

I wrote a console app in C, using Visual Express 2008. It works fine on my own computer, and when I sent the source code to a friend, she compiled it and it worked fine on her PC too.

However I have uploaded the application to a free-hosting website and when my friends download the executable file it doesn't work. They just get a configuration error.

The website is:

http://www.4shared.com/account/dir/6...ng.html?rnd=54

Can anyone help? I'm new to programming and this is my first try at it. Would be great to share my work!

Answer:My friends can't use an app I wrote, even though it works fine.

I just installed SDK from Microsoft(which you probably have) http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...df-a74f-4207-8586-711ebe331cdc&DisplayLang=en and now your program runs fine. So it is obviously still dependent on some component included in the download.

There must be a way make it a fully independent executable. Does anyone here in programming know?

I've attached the .txt file to this post.

So far you guys here at eightforums.com & sevenforums.com have never failed to give me great answers or ideas. As always, I do my best on my end to search for my answer before I submit a new post. Well, I just cant find any answers through searching here, OR google that has helped me.
So my web browser's works fine, all 3 in fact (Chrome,Firefox, Explorer) however, when I open my steam app (gaming program) it keeps telling me it is not establishing any internet service and to check my settings. I opened up origin and it works fine! another related note, My Nvidia Gforce Experience App that keeps tabs on latest updates for my Video card, tells me there is a new update. but when I press the green download button, it also tells me I have no internet connection... I searched under my allowed programs & apps in my firewall settings and its squeaky clean... I then did a system restore and used a restore point from 2 days ago when I know for a fact everything was running great, I still get same results. So that's it fellas. anyone have any idea what the hell is going on here? Thank you all as always for taking this time to read my problems.

Answer:Web Browsers works fine but STEAM APP still no web con.

A few others I know as well as me had this same problem last night. What we did was reboot and then opened steam and steam opened right up.

I'm running Windows XP, Service Pack 3, 2002 version, Internet Explorer 8. Whenever I try and run Internet Explorer, it says that it can't display the page, for whatever reason, suggesting I diagnose connection problems. I've uninstalled all the toolbars I can find, but that doesn't help a bit. Yet I can properly browse the internet perfectly fine with Firefox 3.5.

It's worth noting two things: I recently had a virus infect the computer, posing as antispyware, which I had to wrestle with for an entire morning before Spybot S&D got rid of it. The second is that the MSHTML.DLL (when i use the command regsvr32 mshtml.dll in the Run window) "loads, but the DLLRegisterServer entry point was not found. This file can not be registered."

Is there anything I can do about this? Any more information you might need?

Answer:IE8 won't work, but Firefox works fine

I actually fixed the problem myself:

I went to 'Internet Options' -> 'Connections' -> 'LAN Settings' -> and unchecked the proxy server option. Worked like a charm. (however, I think this is only for some types of internet connections. As in, it might not work for everyone, but probly will)

Hi there

It's a reliable source so I don't have any issues with this particular developer -- if you want to try and run an "Unofficial" but working XP SP4 then it's available here in this link

RyanVM.net Discussion Board :: View topic - Starting a Windows XP Service Pack 4 Project.

Test this stuff as always on a VM rather than on a REAL machine. It's working fine for me.

I have a load of old legacy hardware so I do need to keep an XP machine around for a while yet -- such hardware as a VINYL cutting machine and studio (for creating VINYL records - actually VINYL is beginning to make a bit of a come back too - so I'm glad I kept this business as a hobby !!), some Minidisc recorders - great at GIGS etc for live recordings -- quality fabulous and it's much easier to change standard batteries than the builtin stuff in modern recorders - those older recorders are extremely high quality as they were used a lot in professional recording - especially on the road. I've also got a blue print machine, an old but excellent high quality photo and negative scanner etc so my XP machine is likely to outlast BOTH windows 7 and windows 8 !!!!.

I have some more legacy hardware too and a PHOTOSHOP license -- not going in for ADOBE's Subscription model. The version of Photoshop I have on my XP VM runs just fine - I don't need the absolute latest version as I can use the Camera software to convert the RAW files to things the older version of PHOTOSHOP handles.

Cheers
jimbo

Having issues with one of my PCs in my Home Network. I run DSL/Wireless Router and all my wireless devices run good but my ethernet connection on my Main PC's has issues. Hard to explain but it seems to work fine after booting machine but after a short while of surfing, it loses speed. It doesn't lose connection, just speed. Have done multiple speed tests and the same bad results. I have tested my laptop on the ethernet connection and seems to work fine. Replaced the PCI ethernet adapter in the machine and did not fix the problem. Tried all ports on the router, same results. Any assistance would be great!

Hey a few weeks ago i got a freshly installed windows 7.. works great, everything is good and clean. But last night I restarted my PC, suddenly sometimes when I right click the menu doesn't show up and the effect of the menu disappears. Ive tried searching for viruses and Trojans, a few showed up and avg removed them, but it didn't solve the problem. Also when I right-click. The CPU usage becomes like 80%. Look at the attachments below

see what i mean?

Also, don't think its vista... Its just a theme called Vista VS to make Windows 7 look more like vista

Answer:Windows 7 Works fine except for Right clicking

That is not clean...you have extensions installed, WinRAR, PowerISO, AVG....etc.

Hello, everyone. A computer of a friend of mine, an HP Pavilion dv7 laptop with 64-bit Vista installed on it, recently refused to open any webpages with any of the browsers installed (IE8, FF and Chrome), while other applications which do not use port 80 by default work just fine (i.e. MSNmsgr, WinUpdate etc.)
The problems started after I removed a few viruses off the computer and Removed the trial version of Norton, which has expired prior to that. I tried to do some troubleshooting -- disabled the Windows Firewall, uninstalled AVG (which is also known for causing issues) and ran "netsh winsock reset catalog" with no result, so now I don't know what else there is I can do, so I'm looking for some help.

Answer:Internet works fine, browsers don't

Try these simple tests.

Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD (COMMAND for W98/WME) to open a command prompt:

In the command prompt window that opens, type type the following commands one at a time, followed by the Enter key:

NOTE: For the items below in red surrounded with < >, see comments below for the actual information content, they are value substitutions from the previous IPCONFIG command output! Do NOT type <computer_IP_address> into the command, that won't work. Also, the < and > in the text is to identify the parameters, they are also NOT used in the actual commands.

Do NOT include the <> either, they're just to identify the values for substitution.

IPCONFIG /ALL

PING <computer_IP_address>

PING <default_gateway_address>

PING <dns_servers>

PING 74.125.45.100

PING yahoo.com

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter to copy the contents to the clipboard.
Paste the results in a message here.

<computer_IP_address> - The IP Address of your computer, obtained from the IPCONFIG command above. (For Vista/Win7, the IPv4 Address)

<default_gateway_address> - The IP address of the Default Gateway, obtained from the IPCONFIG command above.

<dns_servers> - The IP address of the first (or only) address for DNS Servers, obtained from the IPCONFIG command above.

Hi

I am having a really difficult problem at the moment...
I am an IT Tech and all our pc's work fine on the network AND Internet.
I have a clients laptop with me, it works perfectly on the network but NO internet what so ever. I done numerous virus scans, Malware removal etc but with no luck sorting the problem.

Also, if it helps, when I try to repair the wireless connection "Windows could not finish repairing the problem because the followng action cannot be completed: Disabling wireless adapter" also previously, same error message but something about the DNS when repairing the wireless connection. the drivers are up to date. Realtek RTL8187. I have configured it manually including the correct DNS.

Also if i try to disable programs to run on startup through msconfig while in the Administrator account it tells me i do not have administrative rights, even though the account does.

Need to get this sorted asap, without a format.

Here is an attached HJT log incase you need a look.

I have an IDE to USB adapter which is over ten years old. It works on my Windows 7 laptop but not on my Windows 10 desktop. My Windows 10 desktop shows a drive letter under My Computer for a short time but it doesn't give a volume name or capacity and the drive letter disappears after a short time.

How can I get information from my Windows 7 laptop to help me get the adapter to work with my Windows 10 desktop? If I go into Device Manager in Windows 7, I see the model number of whatever IDE drive I connect followed by USB but really I think I'm interested in the driver that makes the converter work?

The converter doesn't have a model number although the PCB has U235 REV.C printed on it. There is an IC chip with CL811USB 0351MHGA6-24 on it and I can find information on the CL811USB controller but nothing indicating that there is a driver for Windows 10. Would it make sense to try to extract the driver being used on Windows 7 and install it on Windows 10?

Hi All and Merry Christmas!

I've been all over the help boards and MS troubleshooting, but I haven't found anything that addresses this particular issue.

I can connect to the internet fine via Firefox, but when I try via IE7 I get:
"Failed to connect to web-server/proxy-server for bypass transaction (Error 504)". (Sometimes I get a more friendly error page, but of no more help than this.)

I'm on a Dell desktop running Windows XP SP3 and connect via HughesNet satellite. I believe the problem started after my helpdesk at work talked me through setting up VPN connection. VPN worked fine however, which makes this problem odder because work doesn't support Firefox. In any case, I uninstalled VPN. I've also tried connecting in SafeMode - no dice. None of the other suggestions I've seen online have helped either - but I think all of them assume you can't connect to the internet at all.

One thing I've noticed - when I look at my Network Connection settings there are two of them: Local Area Connection and Local Area Connection 2. The first one says "Network cable unplugged" (which of course it isn't or I wouldn't be typing here now), and the other says "Connected." They have different device names as well, the first Intel (R) Pro 1000... and the second one (that works) 3Com EtherLink XL...

Maybe Firefox is using the second one, and IE is trying to use the first one, but I don't... Read more

Might be Conficker Worm Virus

Have you checked for the Conficker work virus? I had a customer recently had this problem. IE didn't work but FF did and there were some other issues. The ISP had contacted the customer to say they believed his home network was infected with Conficker and needed to be removed or they were doing to cut him off. So he called me, I checked and yes, it was Conficker.

Here is the link for the company that makes a removal tool for Conficker:

System: R61i 8932-A54 running Windows XP. Bought in March, 2008 I cleaned the fan of all dust. It rotates freely. I ran the following diag. in PC Doctor - System Board, CPU, Fan, and some others I forget. All passed. I updated the Bios Voltage from the fan power supply says 5V, which is normal. Maybe the resistance is getting a little high so the computer thinks it is going out? Is there any way to disable the error message? Or do I not want to do that? Thanks a bunch for any replies.

hi,

After two days of trying to install 7 pro 64. I worked out that by removing 2gb of ram I was able to install 7 without any problems. Before it would take hours and then eventually give up. If i try to add the other 2gb stick of ram it hangs at the windows logo.

Ive tried 7 32 bit and that worked fine with 4gb. Also vista 64 bit and that was fine also.

Any suggestions?

2.4ghz dual core, corsair ram, asus pn532 something, 1tb sata

Answer:Works fine with 2gb but doesnt work at all with 4gb?

We are discussing this already, as we have many times. Have a look.

Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit doesn't support 4GB RAM?

I currently have Win Vista Business. its a 32 bit os. My system says I am compatible to run a 64 bit system. So I went and downloaded the new win 7 64bit, burned iso to disc, then unplugged my hdd and hooked up a new1TB drive to partition. It gets to the loading drivers and white line loads across screen then I get the new screen saying error. Something about source and an error that my configuration may have changed recently, would I like to try again or quit. shows a status starting with x0

It should work if my system says its 64bit capable.

I download the win 7 32 bit and it went through like a charm. But I dont want 32 bit I prefer to start out with 64 bit.

Could it be something with my system? operator error? or just bad iso file. Ive been back and forth for two days.

Has anyone else run into this problem?

Thanks

Answer:error wem intalling win 7 64 bit but 34 bit works fine

Hi webhead1,
What CPU is it?
If that 1tb hard drive is brand new, it needs formating before you can use it.

I just installed a LINKSYS WPSM54G wireless print server and after a few problems have it working. But what is now happening is that my firewall is handling more traffic than usual. (The wall is zone alarm so the blinking red and green icon seems OK for the holdays ).

What I found (via system event viewer) was that every 3 seconds my printer was pausing and then unpausing. The LINKSYS people say that it's suppose to work like that !
Any other ideas?

Thanks

This has happened to me in a few builds, Windows works fine, or at least fairly well, until I reboot or shut down my computer. When it restarts or I turn it back on, it won't boot into Windows. 15007 is one of those builds.

The last time this happened I was able to reset my computer and keep my files. This time when I choose to reset, it tells me it is unable to reset.

My BIOS will POST and then I get the dots circling and that's it. Windows won't boot. So I hit my reset button on my computer a few times and the Windows troubleshooting menu will come up. I've tried the different options, it won't repair, can't boot into safe mode (goes to Automatic repair instead which doesn't work), so like last time, I had to resort to resetting. Except this time when I try to reset it says "There was a problem resetting your PC. No changes were made".

So, I downloaded the ISO. Went into the BIOS and booted from my USB stick (downloaded and created a bootable USB stick on my laptop). It gives me the following message: "It looks like you started an upgrade and booted from installation media. If you want to continue with the upgrade, remove the media from your PC and click Yes. If you want to perform a clean installation instead, click No."

If I remove the USB stick and click yes, it restarts and goes back to the circling dots. If I click no, it goes to the Windows install screen (select Language, Time and currency, and Keyboard). Here I can cho... Read more

Different Tempro versions have been released for Win Vista, Win 7 as well as Win 8

All details and additional help regarding Tempro tool can be found here:

But to be honest I would recommend you to use the Toshiba service station.
This Toshiba tool is similar to Tempro and it provides you all information about new Toshiba software and tools update as well as the notebook.

I've got a little unusual problem that I've been trying to figure out all day.

I rarely turn off my pc, or even reboot it. For no particular reason I decided to turn off my PC this morning and about one hour later I came back to turn it on, only that it now refuses to turn on.

The first thing I was able to notice was an usual whistling noise which turned out to be coming from my hard drive. After unplugging my hard drive, the PC turned on fine and worked like a cham (of course it didn't load up XP since there was nothing to load)

Since I have two PCs in the house I tried plugging the hard drive into my other PC and wouldn't ya know it, it worked fine. I even swapped the power source and my computer worked normally, however the power source on my second pc isn't the greatest and my PC started turning off every 30 mins or so (I'm guessing it was over heating, the PSU was really hot)

Even stranger, since I had the PSU that was causing the problems in my second PC I decided to plug in the HDD to see if the PSU was the problem and the hard drive worked. Apon changing PSU's back to my main PC the hard drive was giving the error I started out with.

I'll try being a little more specific with the problem. The computer never starts, it doesn't even get to the bios, it just constantly reboots. Once I power up the PC my HD spins for less then a second, then stops (also makes an odd whistling noise which it normally doesn't make), my CDrom also spins for a split second but ... Read more

Answer:HDD stops pc from starting up, works fine under different PSU

Id say definatly the PSU is to blame. If you tried swapping your HD's and it worked fine in another PC, then the PSU's to blame. Are you sure the whistling is the HD and not the PSU, ive had whilstling PSU's before.

PSU's are always going wrong, if they over heat due to overloading then they will stop working due to the trip switch. (hence the restarting ever 30 mins, please tell me if i have read this wrong)

You say you have already swapped the PSU for another one, from your other pc, was that the one resarting every 30 mins? If so then your overloading the PSU, thus overheating and then the restart to try and save its life. If you did not swap it, then your original PSU has gone wrong and needs to be replaced anyhow.

I know this is a load of crap, but im thinking that suggesting things is better then keeping quite and not getting the problem solved.

Hope you get it fixed.

Hi, this my first time posting and I really would refrain from bothering people if I could, but I've been having this issue with my wireless for the last month so I thought perhaps someone could help.

The OS is a Windows XP home.

I go into IPCONFIG/ALL and it tells me that my wireless is disconnected

I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers.
I've tried going into the router (it's a NETGEAR MR814) IP, and I've added it to the list of devices that can connect to it, but it's not working. It just... won't work. It's not that there's a security lock on my router because I've disabled it and it still wouldn't work.

So now I'm completely befuddled, and disheartened, and on the verge of just taking apart my machine were it not for the ethernet connection. Can someone please help?

~nkiseki

Answer:Ethernet works fine, Not Wireless

First try going into network property and see if you can see it.
If you see something like "Local Area connection 2" with wireless network card, right click on the icon and view available network/connection.
If you see your wireless router setting, highlight and click "Connect".

Hi there,

Not sure if this should be a networking or a operating system question, I guess it's a little of both.

Here's what's happening. I have a cable modem going to a wireless router. My PC(1) is plugged by wire into the router; another pc(2) and Mac Powerbook running wireless. Everything was running great until roommate was using PC1 a couple days ago. Now PC1 will not connect to anything but PC2 and laptop run fast and fine on wireless. I have cleaned with SpyBot and Ad-Aware, as well as Avg in Safe Mode and nothing comes up (usually that's all I have to do to fix it). I checked winipcfg and my network adapter is there with an ip address but if i release, it will not find another ip to renew. Also tried to restore to a couple days ago, no dice.

Here's where it get's weird. If I click just about any folder (my computer, my documents, my network), I get a fatel errod saying that Explorer has made a fatel error and will shut down. I click okay and it just goes back to the desktop, but doesn't shut down.

Roommate talked to ISP tech support (before i knew about the issue) and they were no help aside form wanting to send someone out, which i know is a waste of time since the connection to the modme is fine and that's all they will touch.

Anybody have any ideas? Computer with issue is running Win 98SE (I know I know...it sucks but i never use it anymore...that's why rommmate was using it. haha).

Good morning!!

I have a user who can browse the web using IE 11, but Can’t download anything (doc or exe). Chrome works without any issues. When I log in under the administrator account, I Can download using IE. The user has admin rights by the way. The problem seems to have started when the user downloaded and installed Window Updates this past Friday (10/17). Not sure if the user also tried to update any other programs as well. I’ve tried resetting IE to default settings and checked to make sure that downloading files was enabled. Scanned the computer with Malware Bytes and Kaspersky and nothing was found. System Restore is turned off, so that option is not available. *I’m the 3rd person to work on this problem computer and not sure what the other 2 people had done to try to fix it before it came to me. This is an upper management laptop and therefore makes it difficult to gain access to it. Later today I’ll have some time to jump on it, but wanted to get the ball rolling on this frustrating issue.

Could a corrupted profile cause this? Not sure what direction I should be looking.

Thanks in advance for your help!

A technician came to install a new video card yesterday, and in the process replaced my front chassis fan with a better one.

The computer was on all day yesterday afterwards, so I just noticed this now:

Shortly after turning the computer on and before Windows loads, I get a message that says "Front Fan Failure. Press F1 to continue or F2 to enter Setup".

I pressed F1 and I'm using the computer fine.

The front fan is the fan the technician replaced. The new fan IS working (I can hear it and Everest Home Edition reports it spinning)... perhaps a setting needs to be changed for the computer to recognize this fan?

It would be an annoyance having to hit F1 every time I want to boot up Windows now.

Please let me know how to get rid of this error message.

Hello all, Yesterday I was carrying my Y480 when my water bottle opened and spilled all over my laptop.  It had my battery in.  I didn't know that water was on it until I plugged in my adaptor and it wouldn't turn on.  I saw the power button blinking, the power light red, and the battery light white.  I took apart my laptop, and found water undernealth the keyboard.  Not a lot of water but still.  I dried it up as much as I can, let it sit and plugged it back in.  It worked fine.   I was wondering if I should still call Lenovo's warranty service and see if they should do something about this.  For the time being it works, but I haven't turned it on for the past 11 hours.  I only have the 1 year limited warranty. What are your thoughts?

I've just completed my first pc build:

i5 4690k
Msi z97 gaming 3 mobo
Corsair 430w psu(plan to eventually upgrade)
Seagate 1Tb hdd
Corsair vengeance RAM (x2 4gb sticks)

I've installed Windows 8 pro on the machine, the whole thing works great except for one issue: the USB ports can't recognize any devices, except in One weird case which I'll describe in a moment. Currently I am using an old ps/2 keyboard to navigate windows. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling all devices, updating all drivers for my hubs/controllers/etc, unplugging the front panel connections in case it's a power issue, clearing cmos, still no change. Every time I plug in a device it gives me a code 43. Here's the weird part: The onmy way I can get the machine to recognize a usb device is when I have a usb keyboard/mouse/whatever plugged in, And then I insert my flash drive. The computer will then recognize the drive and I'm able to navigate it normally, inspect the files and such. The only USB device this works for is that flash drive, the usb keyboard and mouse stay unrecognized and listed as unknown devices in device manager. If the flash drive is inserted by itself before another device, or completely solo, it is not recognized and shows up as an unknown device as well.I am totally stumped, begging for a fix to this.

Lan card 2: ITs a 10/100/1000 card that only seems to work in DHCP form. Once i set it up as static, the computer wont see the network (without connection).

Notes:
1. Both Win7 boxes are configured the same way except the ip number of course.
2. The ip range on the network is in the 192.168.1.xxx
3. Gateway and Primary DNS: 192.168.1.1

Sorry my first post is in the tech section.. but i've spent the past hour or so reading through here trying to find an answer and no luck.

I've got a linksys NIC and an onboard NIC.. both are doing the same thing..

It has no problem conneting to the internet through my DSL connection (which i'm on now), but when i plug in the cable connection (both through my linksys switch and directly from the modem), it won't recieve any packets but does send. My roommate's connection works fine when we're both hooked up to the switch.

If you need more info please ask. Any help is greatly appreciated! thanks in advance

Answer:DSL works fine, but cable can't recieve

So you have 2 network ports on your PC.
You have 1 switch (linksys router maybe?)
You have 2 ISP's
When you connect one ISP (DSL) to the switch, you have internet access.
When you connect the other ISP, you lose access. (Only when DSL is also connected?)
You have both network ports on your PC connected to the switch?

If you unplug both NIC's on your PC and connect only 1 of them directly to the Cable ISP modem, can you get any access? If not, you need to contact that ISP to troubleshoot the issue.

I assume you tried various static ip addresses within that subnet and are keeping track of which ones you are using. Have you tried connecting the pc directly to your router?

Also, consider disabling dhcp on your router.

Does your adapter ip settings look similar to this?

Out of curiosity, what is the make of the LAN card and what drivers are you using? Windows or OEM?

This is weird.
Cable internet works fine when I go straight from the modem to the computer ethernet port.
However, if I do anything through a router I can barely get a signal or a connection even to google.
Here's what I've tried so far....
I have a Belkin45 Router and a Netgear WGR614 Router
I have gone straight from the cable modem through each router into the ethernet port of the computer...nothing
I have gone from the modem to the router and used my Netgear wireless USB and I get a signal from the router, I scan the network and find the router no problem but still can not connect to the internet. Did this with each router and found each one no problem.
I have tried 6 different cables
I keep getting server not found or time outs.
Like I said, weird.

Answer:Internet works fine...until going through router

Please supply the following info, exact make and models of the equipment please.

Make and model of the broadband modem.
Connection type, wired or wireless.
If wireless, encryption used, (none, WEP, WPA, or WPA2)
Make/model of network card or wireless adapter.
Version and patch level of Windows on all affected machines, i.e. XP-Home (or XP-Pro), SP2, Vista, etc.

Let's try this with either of the routers:

Reset the router to factory defaults by holding the reset button down for 15 seconds with power on.
Turn off everything, the modem, router, computer.
Connect the modem to the router's WAN/Internet port.
Connect the computer to one of the router's LAN/Network ports.
Turn on the modem, wait for a steady connect light.
Turn on the router, wait for two minutes.
Boot the computer.

Hi all, Please bear with me, I have tried a number of methods to fix my problem and have come here for some possible support. I have a new L420 and I wished to upgrade the HDD to an SSD. I purchased an OCZ 180GB SATA II SSD. Took out the old HDD and installed the new SSD, everything appeared fine and I processed to install Windows 7 64bit from a bootable USB drive. Everything was fine until the install needed to restart the laptop. I would get a 'Operating system not found' error from the BIOS. I rebooted the machine and booted from the USB drive again. Restarting the installation it appeared that nothing had been put on the SSD. It said that the drive was unformatted, despite selecting the Format option during the first install (2 drives where created, a 100MB SYSTEM drive and 167GB PRIMARY drive). I tried the windows DVD and got the same problem. I managed to get windows installed and working after using the Recovery Console and formatting the drive BEFORE starting the installation. Formatting it this way made just 1 partition of 167GB, named SYSTEM. All appeared fine and I turned the machine off for the night. Next morning I turned it on, all was ok, but then I rebooted the machine. Got the 'Operating system not found error' again. The problem now is that the drive not longer appears in the BIOS. I have put the SSD into my desktop and it detects and works fine. I was also able to be made the bootable drive for the desktop.I... Read more

Answer:L420 - SSD works fine in other PC/laptops but not here?

Welcome to the forum!

Nothing to do with your ThinkPad and everything to do with OCZ.

There are many posts all over the web describing issues similar to one you've experienced with OCZ SSDs.

I'd be willing to bet that if you were to attempt the install using an Intel SSD, you'd have no problem.

BTW, I own both Intel and OCZ SSDs personally. My opinion on the latter can't be properly expressed on this forum, but it's NOT a good one, let's leave it as that...

Good luck.

I am so lost, I have tried everything I can to try to figure this problem out. I have switched out videocards, reset my CMOS, formatted and re installed Windows 7 but still have the same problem. Troubleshooting this problem has been really slow since each time I go to try something new I need to wait until the next day for it to happen. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you.

**Also I have noticed this thread is very similar to my problem
BSOD on start up, atikmdag.sys, dxgkrnl.sys, dxgmms1.sys

*****EDIT*****
PROBLEM FIXED Replaced powerstrip and everything works fine.

Answer:BSOD After every startup. Works fine until the next day.

This software is a known cause of BSOD's. The windows 7 operating system does not require these registry cleaning software. They often tune-down rather than tune-up and can wreck the OS beyond repair. I have an acer aspire one nav50

this computer had 1gb of ram so i figured id upgrade it to 2 gb ( only has 1 slot).

I never had a BSOD , but when i tested the 1gb of ram with memtest it failed and found lots of errors. Even with that in mind i never ran accross problems with it.

So i buy a ( 2gb ) stick to sort of improve the overall function of the laptop, i install it and load it up windows , bios reads it fine with no issues. Out of curiosity i run memtest to see if this one won't run across any errors.

45% through the test and then it too gets errors, which is odd because this seems to work otherwise without issues.

I am using pc2-6400s-666 memory on the laptop

Answer:Memory tests bad but works fine?

Give Memtest86+ a try and see if it finds any errors.

I have an annoying issue with my internet connection. From time to time i can't connect to Steam, Battle.net or download from torrents (I'm mentioning torrents becuase there might be a connection). I share the internet with 10 other people all of them connected mostly via wi-fi. Is is possible that the connection is too low to connect to the already mentioned above servers? There is nothing wrong with my pc or internet settings because it works fine for a week and then all of a sudden not. Once we tried to hard reset the main router and after that it worked just fine.
Realy don't know what might be the reason and I would love to finally find out what's causing it.
The router is http://www.planet.com.tw/en/product/...t.php?id=34631
The modem is provided by austrian telecom company and is this one Pirelli PRG AV4202N

Thank you all for any help.

Answer:Internet works fine still cannot connect

It is possible that it could be a network congestion. Does your computer wireless adapter display any diagnostic as to why the connection was lost?

Ok, after updating XFire and getting a typical "Memory can't be read" error, my internet on my XP Machine stops working. So far, i've tried a virus scan (with weeks-old definitions) and Ad-Aware (again, weeks-old definitions), and a uninstall/reinstall of my NIC (Intel Pro/1000 CT) and it does not want to detect the connection at all.

In addition, my computer in general has just gotten "slow" considering its not breaking a sweat, and its a P4 2.80 GHz. It takes a few seconds just to start a program which would take a split second. I'm assuming this is tied in with the internet problem, or this is the cause.

I would really appreciate the help, you all seem like nice people.

Further specs:

Intel P4 2.80 GHz HT
ATI Radeon 9800 XT
1GB DDR
Soundblaster Audigy 2 ZS
Intel Pro/1000 CT NIC
2 80GB Hard drives
NETGEAR WGR614
Toshiba PCX1100 Cable Modem
Comcast cable internet

Please give me a hand, I would appreciate it.

I have an HP Presario with Windows Vista. I can not get it to boot up. It starts to come on and all light start flashing as if coming up then it goes down. I thought perhaps the battery wasn't holding a charge or my adapter wires had a short. However, I have checked both out with another computer and all is working fine. Any pointers as to why my computer only flashes lighs on the keyboard as if trying to boot up? Nothing has appeared on the monitor. Thanks, agenda

Answer:Can't boot up and battery works fine

Try removing the battery and hold the power switch on for 10 seconds, release power button. Then plug in the power adapter and connect to laptop without the battery, turn on.If no boot, follow this: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c00372748&lc=en&cc=us&lang=en&rule=42258&product=3193116&dlc=en.Good luck.

Hey ho,

So my internet connection seems a little screwy. I can browse most of the net fine, but when it comes to CERTAIN websites, i get the standard "Page Cannot be Displayed" error in IE, and Firefox's "The connection was refused when attempting to connect to www.xxxxx.com"

Now, MOST sites work, but some very common ones, like www.symantec.com, www.amazon.com, www.grisoft.com and some others just cant connect. I CAN ping them though, and others can ping me.

so what gives?

Answer:Can't Get To Certain Websites (but ping works fine)?!!?

Check your hosts file. While checking what the virus did in your previous post, it seems to modify the hosts file so that you can't get to places like anti-virus websites. You should be able to do a search for it. or it should be located in C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc. It shouldn't be hidden.

Edit the file with notepad and I am betting that you'll find that things like symantec and grisoft (and others) are directed to 127.0.0.1, you'll have to change those.

More info here and I think there is a thread around called hosts file madness that lists a lot of stuff to look for.

edit: I think that you can just delete the offending lines or enter the correct info for them.

Help... Firefox is fine to surf the web, but we need IE for work related stuff. IE gives a port error, avgfree doesn't find anything, mbam found and resolved two issues and won't update. Latest update was 8/3.

IE doesn't connect, spybot and adaware doesn't load?

Please help.

Thanks,

Mike

Answer:no IE, no Mbam updates but FF works fine

Some types of malware will disable Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and other security tools. If MBAM will not install, try renaming it first.Right-click on the mbam-setup.exe file file and rename it to mysetup.exe.Double-click on mysetup.exe to start the installation. If that did not work, then try renaming and changing the file extension. <- click this link if you do not see the file extensionRight-click on the mbam-setup.exe file, rename it to mysetup and change the .exe extension to .scr, .com, .pif, or .bat.Then double-click on mysetup.scr (or whatever extension you renamed it) to begin installation. If after installation, MBAM will not run, open the Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware folder in Program Files.Right-click on mbam.exe, rename it to myscan.exe.Double-click on myscan.exe to launch the program. If that did not work, then try renaming and change the .exe extension in the same way as noted above.Double-click on myscan.scr (or whatever extension you renamed it) to launch the program. If using Windows Vista, refer to How to Change a File Extension in Windows Vista.Be sure to update MBAM through the program's interface (preferable method) or manually download the definition updates and just double-click on mbam-rules.exe to install. Then perform a Quick Scan in normal mode and check all items found for removal. Don't forgot to reboot afterwards. Failure to reboot normally (not into safe mode) will prevent MBAM from removing all the malware. When done, click the Logs ta... Read more

I have a Windows 2008 R2 server that I just changed over to a domain controller. Everything was working perfectly before that. I recently changed it to a domain controller so I could use WDS.

On my windows 8 and 7 machines if I browse to \\server I get prompted for a user name and password (as expected)

After entering my username/password and double clicking on a share I see "This folder is empty." I've tried recreating the shares, checking the permissions, creating new shares... all to no avail.

However... If I browse to \\192.168.1.200 (the server IP) instead on the UNC and use the same user/pass and clicking on a share all my files are there.

I'm honestly baffled. Anyone ever seen this before?

I don't think it's my workstations as nothing as changed on them. I'm pretty sure it's my server, but I'm really confused as to why.

My workstations aren't part of the domain and I'd prefer if they weren't. I really just turned the server into a domain controller because WDS only plays nice with domain controllers

Answer:UNC: This folder is empty. IP: Works fine.

by chance, when you ping the servername, does it return that IP address of 192.168.1.200?

Dell Dimension 360 2.8 Ghz 1GB RAM XPRO SP2

Hi, I am trying to update an elderly couple's computer for them with their copy of MS Office among other things, but this drive doesn't see anything on the disc. It is a back up disk, but we have the number still and the disc reads fine on my computers. I have tried uninstalling the CD drivers 3 times, restoring the computer to earlier times, updating the firmware and now I have nothing else to try.

It does read some copied video discs and even copies discs with files, but not all. I have even tried other brands, but there is no logic as to what is 'seen' and not seen.

Thanks for your help, Experts!!!

Answer:GCC 4481B won't read cds..drive works fine, tho
