toshiba satellite c655 won't boot properly

Question: toshiba satellite c655 won't boot properly

The problem started a few days ago. My toshiba satellite c655 wouldn't boot. It hangs on the boot screen showing the windows logo and would beep 4 times then start again. I ran the utility to diagnose the problem and it said it couldn't find anything. I can enter safe mode and eventually my computer will stop beeping and will work normally. Yet, every time from then on my computer will hang on the windows screen and beep before it starts. I 'd like to the solve the problem before my computer completely refuses to turn on. I can't find the p.o.s.t. codes for my bios. I am wondering if my keyboard is the cause of this problem because most of the keys aren't working. I am using an external keyboard now.

Preferred Solution: toshiba satellite c655 won't boot properly

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I am thinking of upgrading my Toshiba Satellite C655 with a faster CPU and am wondering if anyone can tell me which CPU's are compatible with this laptop? At this time it has a AMD V140 Processor 2.30ghz. The laptop is a Toshiba Satellite C655D-S50851. Thank you for any information you can give me.

Answer:Toshiba Satellite C655 CPU compatibility

As a general rule with laptops, CPU upgrades don't really give decent increases in performance. Increasing system memory to max allowed and installing a bigger faster hard drive will give you the most "bang for the buck"...

I have relatively new Toshiba Satellite C655 and after spilling a (tiny) amount of soft drink on the upper left keyboard, the keyboard quit working completely.

After installing a new keyboard, most keys work except for the P, R, V, T, [, and Space keys. External USB keyboards work flawlessly. I bought another new keyboard and carefully replaced it, but the problem persists. After this, I tried updating the BIOS to no effect.

Is anyone familiar with this, and know how to fix the problem?

Answer:Satellite C655 - new keyboard doesn't work properly

Hi

I guess this issue did not appear in the past before the soft drink has been spilled on the keyboard. Right?

This means that this fluid is the reason for the keyboard problem.
I guess, both new keyboards are OK.

In such case the problem can be the motherboard or you used both keyboards which are not fully compatible. But I guess this isn?t really a problem.

Possibly you motherboard is affected?. :( but this is just an suggestion

Let me start off by saying I am not very tech savvy lol

I have been having issues with this laptop lately. When I try to do updates on things such as Adobe and I have to choose between 32 or 64 bit, it recommends 32 bit, but I'm supposedly running on 64..

It takes forever to load pages on the internet, and now I can't even see video content through sites like youtube. I have all these services running that I don't even know what they are or if they should be running, can anyone help me get this laptop running better?

Answer:Toshiba Satellite C655 running horribly help pls

Hi, we need more info on your system, to begin 2 gb, on a 64 bit system is not going to cut it, you do need 4 gb of RAM, so this would be my first consideration.

Very hard to read your screen shots in a meaningful way, go to start search and type cmd, right click on the returned cmd.exe and select "run as administrator" at the prompt copy paste:-

Code:
echo > 0 & tasklist /v >> 0 & net start >> 0 & systeminfo >> 0 & echo >> 0 & notepad 0
press enter, please copy paste the notepad outcome here.

BTW:- from the systeminfo cmd you can delete the windows updates(hotfixes) we don't need them, will reduce the size of the post.

I'm asking this question from an alternate computer, thus no utility log. My Toshiba Satellite C655 laptop runs on Windows 7. Today it will not complete the boot-up process. I get to the Windows welcome screen and just as it appears to be going to the sign-on, the screen goes black with a white cursor. From this point, I can get nowhere. I can open in safe mode, but am unable to run any diagnostic from there. Help anyone?

Answer:Startup problem with Toshiba Satellite C655

I was able to get to the command prompt screen and used sfc scannow and the result was "Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations."

Answer:My Toshiba Satellite C655 battery does not charge at all.

Remove battery but keep the charger plugged in. Can you run your laptop now on the charger alone ? If your answer is yes, then your battery or its charging circuitry might be at fault. If your answer is no, then your charger is at fault.CoolGuy

Toshiba Satellite C655 Laptop cannot restore to factory settings with or without OEM Toshiba rescue disc.

In short, I attempted to replace bad hard drive. First, I used spotmau to partition and format the replacement drive. Then, I changes the boot settings to usb dvd. I booted to the OEM Toshiba rescue disk to reinstall windows 7, 64-bit os. I used both a LG Super multi drive to install the rescue disk, and the laptop's actual optical drive/disk tray to no avail. The first of four disks did download. The second disk of four failed to complete the process.

Can't read from the source file or disk. PREINST11.SWM

Then when the system rebooted to windows, the following error:
The error, F3-F200-0002 An error has occurred. Please press [OK] to turn off the computer.

I reattempted the re install process three times with the same results.

Does anyone know how to successfully reinstall windows 7, 64-bit under these conditions? Thanks

I bought this laptop for a great deal less than a month ago but the return policy was the first of January. On the 8th I spilled a water bottle by accident from doing some school work and not paying attention to how close it was. I know that it is a horrible choice to eat/drink around technology. I quickly turned it off, took out the battery, tipped it upside down to get some water out, then i took the keys off and dried it all underneath them, next i waited about 6 hours and was so worried i turned it back on and everything was working fine until I tried typing =( I knew i should wait longer so i turned it back off and waited 30 hours and it still wasn't typing right i.e press k kj90 comes up. Then I decided to just use a usb keyboard and do the rice thing to the actual keyboard. Now I am still using the usb one which can get annoying but I can live and it has been over 4 days since the accident occurred. Is it possible that it's still drying out some keys work but some of them type other letters that are close by it? Could I buy a similar model keyboard and replace this one? I called Toshiba and they said it wasn't covered and would cost $180 to get it replaced but I don't have that money. I have also checked online for the same keyboard replacement but I didn't find any but similar one's. Thanks

Question: Toshiba C655 USB

My usb ports went out a couple weeks ago and am lost at how else to use USB devices without those ports.

Any other solutions to this? I have a ethernet port but this pc is rather basic.

Toshiba c655 s5512

Also I've uninstalled and reinstalled drivers under DM, so don't ask about that.

Answer:Toshiba C655 USB

If you connect some device, do you see if it is receiving power? (mice light up, HDDs start vibrating and whirring, or some lights flash)

Can you check the manual that there isn't some key or key combination that disables/enables the ports?

Can you install the latest chipset driver from here (I know it says it is not USB drivers, but the chipset is the component actually controlling USB ports anyway)?

Question: Toshiba C655 USB

I am running Win7 64bit.

So for some reason my USB ports does not read anything except my Nikon SLR - Apple Ipod and phone among other devices have all been successfully run from these ports, but as of a couple days ago - the PC fails to recognize anything except the camera.

I am wondering if this is a firmware issue and where is the USB 2.0 firmware download?
Also when viewed in Device Manager - none of the entries show any exclamation points or failure - I'm totally stumped.

Unfortunately I regularly remove old restore points to save disk space - as of yesterday - I had only 1 restore to choose from, but when attempting to choose that - it would reboot the pc and when it came to the desktop - it would tell me the restore failed and nothing had been changed - said it might have been due to a antivirus program, but I disabled them and tried it again and same thing.

I currently have the latest BIOS 1.30 & legacy USB support is enabled.

This pc is a Toshiba C655 S5512.

Answer:Toshiba C655 USB

So far I have not determined the cause - I performed a clean boot via the msconfig options - doesn't appear to be software, but am totally stumped at why the Nikon is recognized by the pc and nothing else (either port).

Now, as of 2 1/2 days ago - when I plug the Nikon into a port (doesn't matter which one), after attempting to copy files to the pc, it will cut power to the Nikon device.

So it sounds like the ports are on their way out ugh.

Last week, the keyboard on my toshiba laptop was giving me some problems. Some of the keys don't work and some will do some funny stuff when i clicked on them. For example, when I type the letter d, it will have the function of an alt key... when I try to type the word spread, right when it reaches spr, the whole thing changed to aAa. It was so weird and I thought probably I got a virus. I did a virus scan and restarted the laptop. I set up a password to log into my laptop and as the keyboard is not working, I am not able to log into the system without keying in the correct password. Does anyone know how to disable a login? I was thinking of maybe installing a new regular keyboard but I will not be able to try that without first gettting in. Anyone can help pls??

Hello, yesterday I downloaded a new driver for the Toshiba DVD player (only had the laptop a week or so).

Now when I attempt to play a DVD it tells me "Unable to output the video to an external device. Please switch your display device by pressing the Fn+F5 keys after ending the application"

Now, I have closed the dvd and then done as it said with the Fn+F5 keys but this seems to get me nowhere. It appears the laptop and lcd icons are highlighted.

Any suggestions please?

Answer:Satellite U300: Toshiba DVD player does not work properly

Hi mate,

it seems that the driver has some kind of problems. What you could try is to rollback the system to an earlier restore point.
With many luck you could play your DVD?s again with the Toshiba player, but I would suggest you to wait till the next update, maybe they will fix that issue.

You can alternatively use the "VideoLan" player which is freeware and probably one of the best available players which can play almost all existent formats. If you would like to try the player, then just go here -> www.videolan.org/

Otherwise you can perform a recovery, use the Toshiba DVD player and wait till toshiba releases a new update which works..

This has been the case since I performed a Disk Cleanup (right click on My Computer and select cleanup - then ticked all the boxes offered in list). I do not have a Vista disk so cannot repair Vista I suspect?

Answer:Toshiba laptop using vista will not boot properly

you need to look at Windows Vista's Repair Your Computer options. How you access the repair options will depend upon whether you have a Windows Vista installation disk or whether your operating system came pre-installed by your PC manufacturer.Windows Installation DiskNOTEWith the Complete PC Restore Option you must have made a backup of your system, either on your hard drive or on a set of DVDs, in order to use this option. If you don't have a backup then don't use this option1/ make sure your PC can boot directly from the Vista DVD. Obviously, most modern PCs can. With older machines you may need to check the PC's BIOS2/ Start the PC3/ Immediately insert the Windows Vista DVD into the DVD drive4/ A Black screen will appear with the words 'Press any key to boot from CD or DVD'5/ Press Any key to start the booting process6/ A new screen will now appear with a progress bar. Hi
I have never had a laptop before. Also new to windows 7. Trying to find the simplest way to burn a DVD from another DVD on this new laptop. I know I have to put the info from the DVD on to the laptop. And then burn it on to a blank DVD. I can put the DVD in to the drive. Thats a great start !!! I am looking for the simplest way to "rip" and burn. Even if it means downloading (hopefully free) burning software.

On my desktop CD burner it was pretty easy to burn from a CD to another CD. 2 trays and software to burn. I know this is more complex. I am somewhat computer challenged, btw. Thanks :)

Answer:Satellite C655 - Easiest way to burn a DVD

Hi lili60,

The most DVDs and CDs that you can buy are copy protected so I doubt you will be able to copy them. Usually you can only copy disks from friends with private pictures, music, etc. but common disks are copy protected.

For burning disks you can use the freeware tool ?CD Burner XP?. That?s really nice tool that provide all necessary functions for burning disks. You can download the tool here:
http://cdburnerxp.se/

On the same page you can also find an online help how the program works.

If you have more questions, please let us know! :)

I just purchased a Toshiba Satellite C655 and I cannot get any sound out of my external speakers.

I do, however, have sound from the small internal laptop speakers. I have looked at the configuration for the soundcard (Conexant CX20671) and cannot find any way to select an external speaker setup. I'm using the correct line-in jack (not the headphone jack) so I'm really confused as to what the problem is. Is this sound driver compatible with my external speakers (Logitech Z-540)?

Thank you for your help.

Answer:Satellite C655 - No sound on external speakers

If you are connecting the speakers using optical (SPDIF) or Analog?

What port did you plug the speakers into? You will need to use the Headphone Jack (Analog Stereo). The other one is usually the Microphone input jack.

So just like 1000s of others I imagine, Windows 10 violated my C655. I believe it successfully wiped out any trace of Windows 7 for recovery. I even tried a disk I made with the same laptop a year or so ago. It tells me that it doesn't match the hardware. Nice. Tried the "0" at boot to refresh but I get an error code. Command Prompt pimp trying sfcconfig and diskpart. Nada. Zip. Last resort is to erase the hard disk, which may fail also. Will that be an even bigger pile of "ish" to deal with? Opening up a can of worms quite possibly? Will I be able to use my Win7 key located at the Windows sticker on the bottom of this brick? Any advice will be appreciated. Thanks.

Hello -

I have a Satellite C655 that I purchased and year and a half ago. Over the last few days the fan has been kicking in a lot more than usual. By this I mean the fan or ventilator on the left - the quieter one on the right is always on and pretty quiet.

I'm not running any big programs - just the internet or Word but it's been going on every 30 seconds or so and will sometimes slow the computer down and the little blue circle in Word 7 will start spinning around.

I'm hoping it's that the fan needs cleaning and I have no intention of taking anything apart to try it myself. I use the computer for work so I need it all the time and would have to do some scheduling to have Staples tech guys or Best Buy Geeks do it for me.

Can I use a vacuum on the underside and side vent to pull out any dust - would this help or am I asking for trouble? Is there any way to clean the fan without pulling off any of the covers/keyboard?

Any help is sure appreciated. This is my first post so if you need any other information, please just let me know. Thanks so much.

Answer:Satellite C655 - Can I use a vacuum to clean the fans?

Your only way to get it clean is using vacuum or compressed air and blow out the dust.
If notebook should be cleaned on professional way it must be disassembled. It is only way to get full access to all cooling modules. Please this should be done by authorized service only.

Anyway, try with vacuum.

So the hard drive went in the C655.
I was able to copy the recovery partition to another drive. I wasnt able to get far with that.

I have restore DVD's how ever when I boot from the DVD's it says "Windows is loading files" hanges up for a minute then I get the following message. " Windows has encountered a problem communicating with a device connected to your computer.. This error can be caused by unplugging a removable storage device such as an external USB drive while the device is in use, or by faulty hardware such as a hard drive or CD-ROM drive that is failing. Make sure any removable storage is properly connected and then restart your computer.

If you continue to receive this error message, contact the hardware manufacturer.

Status: 0xc00000e9

I have nothing plugged in...
Is my recovery DVD bad ? is my DVD drive bad ?
is there any other way to load the recovery DVDs ?
I'm stumped.

The hard drive is brand new so I have no recover options as far as holding 0 while turning on or F8 to recovery options.

Answer:Recovery help needed for Satellite C655 - HDD died

Set BIOS to default settings and try to use recovery DVD again.

If possible test it please with original Microsoft installation disc just to see if the problem will be the same.

Hi,

I want to know if I can change my Toshiba satellite mainboard with one who I can change the video card and the main processor. So I want a mainboard with non-integrated cpu and video card . It?s that possible?

Of course that I want more powerful in the performance so I want to use in design and rendering programs.

Answer:Mainboard exchange on Satellite C655-S5549

Hello Roberto

Please don't understand me wrong but I?m afraid you are mixing something. All your questions would be understandable for me if this forum were related to individual hardware configuration for desktop machines.

We are discussing here about mobile units or mobile machines with very limited hardware upgrade possibilities. Specific design and special constructed cooling system designed for certain hardware platform don't allow big hardware changes.

With notebooks there is completely different strategy when you think to buy one machine. You must compare hardware configuration and price, of course. Choose the best one and buy it.

You cannot buy some cheap machine and later exchange almost everything inside. Mobile machines are not designed for something like this.
If you need powerful machine with good hardware I?m afraid you must sell your Satellite C machine (middle range notebook) and buy some more powerful notebook.

Sometimes when I wake my laptop up after sleep or hibernation the screen will be way to bright/high contrast to the point where I have trouble reading icon names on my desktop.

The only way I've found to fix it once this happens is to restart, then it's fine. It only does this once in a while.

It's pretty new, not even a year old, so I doubt it would be the back light going bad.
I was just wondering if anyone knew why this would happen and if it's something I should be concerned about?

I have a Satellite c655 running windows 7.

Answer:Satellite C655 - sometimes screen is too bright after hibernation

Hi

To be honest this is the first time that I read about such problems.
Are you able to change the brightness using Fn + F6 or FN + F7 while this issue happens?

But these FN button combinations controls only the brightness and this does not affect the contrast? so not quite sure if it?s really an setting issue?
In worst case your display could be affected? so maybe you should get in contact with an local Toshiba ASP in order to check the internal LCD.

Hi Everybody

I?m from Ukraine. My friend bought laptop Satellite C655-S5507. After a week he got a black screen while turning on laptop. Laptop was bought in USA, and there is no possibility to send it in an official service center.
It seems to be that BIOS crashed. I have an experience in laptop repairing, and I?m sure that this is problem with BIOS.

I went on an official Toshiba web-site on support page, to get BIOS file (I'd like to use USB programmer, to flash the BIOS), but there are no such a model (C655-S5507). I've read that this model was produced for some stores in USA, and there are no official drivers for it and also bios file.

Please send it (BIOS file) there or on email ([email protected]) , because laptop without it will be sold by parts, and there are no possibility to repair it without original BIOS file :( .

Answer:Need BIOS file for Satellite C655-S5507

You are right. This is US notebook model. Problem is that I cannot find anything on this US support page.

My advice is to post this on US Toshiba forum http://forums.toshiba.com/t5/Computers/ct-p/c_laptops/tshb and hopefully someone there will be able to help.

My Toshiba Satellite C655 won't play sound through my built-in speakers.

The sound is turned up, it is not muted, and the internal speakers are the default. I can plug in my headphones and it will work, but it won't come through the speakers. This is the first time I've had this problem and I've had the laptop for about 5 months now.

Please help!

I left my computer idle recently and came back to find the audio was, you guessed it, not playing. I checked my speakers: on and plugged in. checked without them: nothing. i looked at the Volume Mixer and found that it wasn't registering my programs were making any sound at all. my sound driver is supposedly up to date or not needing an update (Conexant CX20671 SmartAudio HD). I tried reinstalling the driver (kinda? uninstalled it and checked for software changes) and restarting my pc (restart happened first), no avail. I was listening to music not a few min before, any ideas how to fix? Ill take any suggestions

Answer:Satellite C655 - how to fix the hard drive input plug?

> I have a brand new Toshiba Satellite C655 could I fix the hard drive input plug because somebody snapped it off and also the start button was removed off the board.

Do you mean the SATA connector on the motherboard? Is it broken?
Well, I don?t think its easy to fix. If something is broken on the motherboard, then mostly you will need an new motherboard or you would ask an specialist (electronics technician) for help.

> Also have a Toshiba U300 which is flicking screen then turns blue and switches off and on by itself.
Try to clean the cooling ventilators using compressed air spray. Mostly the notebook switches OFF automatically due to higher temperature? and cleaning cooling fans can help to get better cooling performance.

My laptop doesn't power on after I do a windows shutdown.

After it completely closes, when I try the power button nothing is happening (neither a led, neither the screen or the vent. it doesn't start)

After I take out the power supply and the battery for one minute and put it back, when I try to power on - it starts.
I changed the RAM memory with good ones, same thing. I cleaned up the laptop and put high quality thermal paste on the processor.

The model is: Toshiba Satellite C655-S5128.
This thing it happens since I cleaned my laptop.
(I mention that I do clean up for laptops everyday, so I know how to do it)

Answer:Satellite C655-S5128 doesn't start - power on problem

The unit doesn?t power up since you cleaned the notebook?
Hmm? these sounds like something went wrong during the cleaning procedure.

I believe you that you have lot of experience in notebook cleaning and you know how to do that but obviously this time you made some mistake? sorry to say this?.

In my opinion the issue is related definitely so some hardware problem? I don?t know who you cleaned the unit and what parts (beside the CPU) have been removed during this procedure but probably one of these parts have been affected or don?t function properly.

sorry if this is a re-post, but I couldnt find info.

Basically I went to turn my laptop on thisarvo and the power LED indicator comes on and stays on, the HDD LED comes on for a second, and the fan starts for a second but then the laptop just sits there with a blank screen and power LED on.

I managed to get it to start up once and restored to factory settings. Shut it down, went to reboot and its still doing the same thing.

Any help will be much apreciated.

I appear to have committed the cardinal sin of being too impatient on initial startup. I had 4g RAM installed at purchase (yesterday).
On startup I selected 64-bit Windows and sat back to wait for the whole startup process to happen.

I got the message "Recovering Files" but after 2 hours nothing had happened.
The progress bar had not moved and there was no hard disc activity. I hit "Cancel"and turned the machine off.

Now it doesn't get past the startup before giving me an error message.
Was I too impatient?

Can I recover from this?

Answer:Satellite C600 does not boot up properly

Hi

You have upgraded the RAM and since than the notebook does not boot up properly?
Did you test if the notebook could boot up properly without the new inserted RAM?
Please check this because I think the issues is related to the new RAM and probably the notebook would start up without the new RAM modules.

My laptop sometimes has problems to boot.

I open the laptop & it tries to boot, but the 'num lock' and 'caps lock' LED lights (green) stay lit. If the laptop boots properly, the light switch on for a very short time and switch off straight away.

It doesn't always happen, but it often does and it's quite annoying. The fastest way to solve it, is to remove the battery and insert it again (soft reset?) But since that require a screwdriver. But this shouldn't be required to boot my laptop.

How can I solve this?

The only thing I tried so far is resetting the power options to factory settings. That didn't help.

Hi,

I have a Toshiba Laptop A60-672 it had been running slow but now when I turn the laptop it goes straight into the option screen where I choose safe mode or last known good configuration, every option I choose goes into the windows screen as if xp is loading up the blue bar runs across the bottom of the screen then you get a quick click of a blue screen then it reboots back to the screen of safe mode and last know good config ??

Can anyone advise me

Thanks and Regards

Answer:Satellite A60-672 hangs and will not boot up properly

Hi

On this way it is not easy to say why blue screen occurs. Like you know when a system error occurs, the computer displays a blue screen containing error codes. Is there any possibility to post us this code? Maybe someone will be able to say something that will help.

Anyway, in my opinion, the OS is totally screwed up and I am afraid at the end you must make clean OS installation.

Hi,

the recovery program that restores your notebook to factory settings works on Windows 98, but it installs an XP image on your hard disc.

If the recovery doesn't help, I think there is a hardware problem on your notebook.

Hi there,

I have a similar problem with my M40X-112. After pushing the power button, th sbutton turns blue, the fan starts
rotating and after some seconds the fan stops and nothing happens (no bootup, no sound, nothing).
In one out of 30 trials I can see the startup screen and also made it to the bios setting twice, but after
some seconds the screen turns black and everything stalls. At all times the blue light of the power button
glows and all three green LEDs in front of the laptop are on.

Is the CMOS battery empty ? Why should removing the battery and AC power help in this situation ? Does charging
for 24 hrs with laptop turned on help (see http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums/message.jspa?messageID=145557#145557) ?

Thanks a lot in advance for any hints,

Marc

Answer:Satellite M40X-112 does not boot up properly

> Is the CMOS battery empty? Why should removing the battery and AC power help in this situation? Does charging for 24 hrs with laptop turned on help
I don?t think that the CMOS battery is empty. Your description does not sound like a battery issue.
If the CMOS battery would be empty then the notebook would boot up but only the time and date would be set to the default value?

Therefore I think the issue could be related more to a motherboard issue as to CMOS battery issue?
I think we can discuss about the malfunction and can assume what part could be wrong but finally this would be only a assumption and will not really help to find out what?s wrong exactly?.

Therefore I would say you should ask an ASP for an hardware check?

Hello,

I have a Satellite L670D-15D and now I have switched it on SSD.
As part of this, I wanted to upgrade the RAM (2GB DDR3-1066 original installed).

I bought the Mushkin 8GB DDR3-1066 kit.
In the BIOS both RAM modules with 8 GB are displayed.

After the logo screen, the white course remains the top left and the boot process stops.

Does anyone have an idea and can help me?

Answer:Satellite L670D-15D does not boot properly after RAM upgrade

The issues is related to the new inserted RAM.
But I?m confused? what RAM is installed exactly now; 2GB + 8GB RAM modules or only one 8GB RAM module?

I?m asking because the notebook Satellite L670D-15D supports 8GB RAM and from my point of few 10GB RAM (2GB + 8GB) is too much.

Therefore I would recommend you to use 2 x 4GB RAM modules.
Kingston modules provide good quality ? value ration. The modules are not the cheapest one but in most cases such modules don?t cause compatibility problems?. You know?

Try to recovery the notebook from the HDD recovery partition.
Do you know how to start this procedure? No?

Press the F8 button immediately after notebook has been powered up.
Then choose the first option called ?Repair my computer?
Then choose Toshiba recovery (last option in new window)
Now the HDD should proceeds.

I think this should help you to reinstall the Win Vista again and to finish the Vista setup successfully

I'm posting on behalf of a friend who has this problem, we only have contact via mobile texts :( I may not be able to immediately provide all the answers you seek to resolve this problem.

Hi,

The laptop (P100-240) turned itself off whilst playing a game 2 days ago, since then the following problems have been experianced;

Loading windows in normal mode results in instant Blue Screen (specific info unavilable). Windows in normal mode has not been accessed since this problem began.
Loading windows in safe mode worked for a while, but internet access resulted in Blue Screen aswell, for a while this problem resolved itself, safe mode no longer works to my knowledge.
The visual display appears at all times distorted, a matrix like effect. I don't know wether this effect is passive, or only during windows or startup, details on how it looks or anything very specific.
A blue screen mentioned the file nv4_mini.sys, this is an nvidia driver file for laptops as far as I know. A gfx driver update cured nothing.

The current situation is total lack of access to the desktop, I think it blue screens just after the welcome screen. I don't know what the blue screen says atm, but the disabling of memory options in the bios was recommended by something... I don't know wether the option is even available to the p100-240s bios system, googling this problem came up with mentions of disabling video caching and shadowing options in the bios as the definition of bios memory options, and... I have a Toshiba Satellite, U405D-S2850. Last week the battery light went amber and the computer shut down. The computer would boot up on battery but when the power was plugged in the battery light went amber and the computer shut down. I verified with a volt meter that the power supply was good. So I purchased a new battery, now the battery light is white, as it should be. When I turn the power on the button lights come on but the C drive will not spin up. I tried the restore disk, (Put in CD and hold "C" key, held "C" key for 5 minutes with no results). I plugged in an external monitor and it is also blank. (Lights are one but nobody is home!)

It is a Toshiba Satellite Pro L300... Running Vista Business OEM...
It starts to run through the boot process but then the blue screen flashes up and it restarts...
He doesn't have the original Windows disc... I've tried starting from last good config... I've tried safe mode... And i've tried it by pressing the Zero key to try the hidden partition but it doesn't seem to have it...
None of the above have worked...
He was wanting it fixed and updated to Windows 7... If i got Windows 7 could i just put in the disc and install or would i need this version of Vista working properly first, and if so how do i get it fixed...

Remove the battery and try booting with the AC adapter only. Also, if it still won't boot, remove the AC adapter and battery. Hold the power button down for about 30 seconds. Release the button, plug in the AC adapter and see if it boots. If all this fails to improve booting, the motherboard may be the problem

Okay, well heres the story.

I wanted to watch some movies on my laptop. I clicked on "My Computer", then the disc. When the disc folder opened up, I tried to click on my movie. The icon got highlighted, but the window wasn't responding after that. It was really fustrating, happened alot. So I thought it had something to do with the internal, like some dust somewhere. So I flipped my laptop over, and took it apart kinda. You see, the lap top has like 2 layers, and I only took apart the first layer. Which contained the CPU, Heatsink, and battery and some other stuff but I don't know what they are. The hard drive and optical drives wern't on this layer. Anyways, I got to the heatsink, which was attached to the CPU. I cleaned out some dust from the heatsink, then I took it off. It was connected to the CPU with this greasy blue stuff. At the time I didn't know it was the CPU, so I took it off. It was connected by thousands of little pins. Then I put it all back together, and found that when I pressed the power button, the computer didn't turn on. The lights down the bottom were fine, such as the power plug light, the battery light. So I took apart the laptop again, I took the CPU out, and put it back in, then the laptop booted up, and made some sound like vrrmmmm vrmmmm. Then the sound died out, there was nothing on the screen whilst this was happening.I put everything back again, but now only one light was on. and that was the power plug ligh... Read more

I have read the link below but, there is no option to 'repair your computer' and so I don't know what to do next.

The laptop goes into a 'setup is starting services' loop.

Help is greatly appreciated!

Are you able to use external USB keyboard?
Connect external keyboard and check if you can select the option from HDD recovery menu.
In case of internal keyboard malfunction, the usage of external USB keyboard should work.

But if you will not be able to perform the HDD recovery even if the external USB keyboard would be connected,
I recommend you to use the Recovery disk.

Did you create the recovery disk in the past?
Do you have any other clean Microsoft Windows installation disk?

The above machine was working fine until today.

Then when I switched it on, it just sat on the Toshiba page, asking me to press F2 or F12.
I wasn't sure what to do so I ran the (factory) recovery disk which all seemed to install ok but....

Now when I switch it on, it shows the initial Toshiba splash screen and stays there until I manually press F12 to select to boot from the hard drive.
From there it takes me to Windows Boot Manager and I have to select the windows 7 o/s.

Then I get the "starting windows for the first time" screen for a minute or so until it restarts and I have to press F12 again.
It just repeats all this over and over in loops.

I've tried the recovery disk again but the same is happening.

I've been in the bios and made sure the hard drive is set as the first boot device, and I've set the bios to default, but nothing seems to make any difference.

Any help/advice greatly appreciated.

Answer:Satellite L500-1XL does not boot properly - stay in loop

>I've been in the bios and made sure the hard drive is set as the first boot device, and I've set the bios to default, but nothing seems to make any difference.
Hmm?. this was my idea? I thought maybe the HDD was not chosen as a first boot device? but it seems that this is not the case.

I?m wondering why you have to choose Win 7 in boot manager. Usually there is only one installed OS and the boot manager should not appear but Win 7shoudl load automatically?

I think you should formant the HDD once again? all the partitions should be deleted and then you should try to recovery the notebook using recovery disk?
If this does not help then I recommend checking the HDD. Maybe it malfunctions and new HDD would be necessary.

I have a Toshiba Satellite L300 when I boot it up it goes straight to the boot manager screen where I have to boot it manualy. Once it boots up it does not work properly until I click on the quick launch button to stop the line scrolling up and down.

I have a full system recovery twice but I'm still having the same problem.

Can anybody help?

Answer:Satellite L300 - Doesn't boot Vista properly

Hi

To be honest I don?t understand what you mean exactly?
What happens if you press F8 immediately after the notebook has been power up?
Can you see the ?Advanced Boot Menu??

If yes, then try the option called ?Last known good configuration?.
If this will not help you try the Safe Mode.

After installing Spybot & Spyware Doctor in Safe Mode With Networking & attempting to run a few scans with them on a Toshiba Satellite L300 that got to just before user login screen but no further before.

But got the dreaded BSOD & now, regardless of what mode I boot I get it everywhere before the user login screen, including LKGC. On the rare occassion that it doesn't do this I get a grey background with a system error that says: 'System Restore Options: The installed program cannot start. Click OK to turn off the computer'.

The BOSD says:

"Disable or uninstall any anti-virus, disk defragmentation or backup utilities. Check your hard drive configuration & check for any updated drivers. Run chkdsk/f to check for hard drive corruption, & then restart your computer."

I was using my laptop and it hung up with IE7 running during Windows update. I had to do a power button forced shutdown. Now BIOS won't post, it won't boot either. The power light comes on, the hard drive light comes on for about 2 seconds then nothing but a black screen. I removed the memory, swapped them around, tried it with only one chip in, cleaned the memory chips and slots still nothing.

I gave my daughter a Toshiba Satellite M35-S359 laptop for Christmas two years ago.

About 4 months ago the DVD/CD-RW developed a problem with the lens servo and stopped working. I advised her to get another at that time, but she didn't.

Last month, something happened to the hard drive (possibly simply corruption of the OS files, not sure) and the system would no longer boot. Since there is no way to boot a system without a workign hard drive or CD/DVD I purchased a new DVD/CD-RW and installed it in hopes of booting the recovery CD and reloading the Operating System. The new CD however did not work. (not sure why) I have also purchased a new hard drive and installed it in the laptop, but without a way to load the OS on it, it's useless. (the laptop has no floppy)

i'm looking for sugegstions on how I can troubleshoot the CD/DVD. It spins, and you can hear the read head seeking (moving) but won't boot the recovery CD. Is there a way to tell if this problem is power-related or possibly a bad interface/cable/what-have-you?

Possibly someone knows a different way to boot this puppy?

Thanks much for your indulgence,

I'm trying to re-purpose an old Toshiba satellite laptop for my mom, but there's a problem with it.
I can plug it in using a 3rd party charger laying around and the battery charges fine but other than that, when i go to power it on, the fans will start up, screen lights up, but no logo. the LED on the DVD drive blinks 4 times and then the fans power off, screen turns off, and the power led goes off.
i'm quite unsure about this cause it seems to start to post but it doesn't boot into a BIOS. any help would be appreciated.

Answer:Toshiba Satellite won't boot/post

When you say it does not boot into a BIOS, are you tapping F2 while it's booting?

If that does not work, holding ESC for 3 seconds usually works, IIRC.

I have a 3 yr old Toshiba Satellite M35X laptop. I am running XP. It has a Celeron processor and a 40GB HD. 512RAM.
Today I was surfing the web and left for a half hour coffee break. When I returned I was confronted with a black screen and the following: "Intel UNDI, PXE-2.0 blah balh. Then:
"For Realtek RTL8139(X)/8130/810XPCI
Fast Ethernet Controller N2.13 (020326)
PXE-E61: Media test failure, check cable
PXE-M0F: exiting PX ROM
Invalid partition table"

I couldn't do anything. I turned off the computer with the power button, waited five minutes, turned the computer back on and got:
The Toshiba screen, which led to a black screen with a cursor in the extreme upper left hand corner.
Then this message appeared:
"A disk read error occurred. Press ctrl+alt+del to restart" which I did.

This resulted in the Toshiba log on screen and followed by the Realtek screen again, but this time it repeated itself for ever.

What is causing this, and can it be easily remedied, or do I have a defective hard drive? (!)

Thank you, in advance, for your prompt responses, good or dire!

Answer:Toshiba Satellite M35X can't boot up!

Troubleshoot Invalid Partition Table
taken from http://www.datarecovery.com.sg/data_recovery/troubleshoot_invalid_partition_table.htm
Observations

You power up your computer and receive the following error:

Invalid Partition Table
Possible Causes

When you power up your computer, the system examines the master partition table to determine what volume to use to boot up the operating system, and detected invalid information within it. This is caused by an incorrect or missing active partition.

Resolution

To resolve this issue, consider the following steps:

Boot up the computer with a Microsoft Windows 98 boot up disk or Windows XP recovery console. Select the correct bootup device before you do that.
At the DOS command prompt, type in: fdisk
Now, you will be prompted with the following question
Do you wish to enlarge large disk support (Y/N) ?
Enter: Y
Now to check for active partition, enter: 2

Look under the Status column. The active partition is usually assigned to the drive which contains your operating system.
If there's no active partition set, enter the number of the partition to make active

Restart your computer and the problem should be resolved.

Hello everyone;

I've a Toshiba L750 that's hanging on the Windows logo before log-in.

I THINK that the last thing done on it was apparently Windows Updates. The laptop was on; I left the room and it must have restarted and was stuck on the logo.
The last restore point shown in System Restore is:- 1/18/2014 7:00PM - Windows Updates. So I think it was during the restart process of this it went down. It was working just fine before that.

Initially (before I saw the last restore point) I thought that it may be a corrupted hard drive, however it loads just fine in safe mode, everything recognized and there; and I've since tested the hard drive in my desktop and it's working fine, I can access all of my files.
With the HDD back in the laptop startup repair does not detect a problem.
System Restore shows that the last Windows Updates point, and 3 others:

1/18/2014 6.46pm Installed TightVNC
1/19/2014 5:06pm Installed SDFormatter
1/18/2014 11:44am Installed Itunes

It says that the restore is successful. but will still hang at the windows logo,

I initially thought that I installed some nasty software come with a download but I'm pretty sure now that it's not. I ran Webroot & Avast AV on the hard drive when it was in my desktop. Avast found nothing and Webroot found 6 minor threats that have been taken care of. I think there was something in the Windows Updates that my Windows didn't like maybe.

Answer:Toshiba Satellite HDDrecovery boot

Hi

How it works with HDD recovery you can read on http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/HTD1303440001R01.htm

This will work if your notebook still hast original recovery image saved on HDD and notebook and you didn?t change HDD partitions structure. After own OS installation you will not have access to recovery files anymore.
You cannot move recovery files to external device and start recovery installation from there.
> Nor can I figure out how to change the boot order of the drives and get it to boot from the partition with the HDDrecovery folder on it.
You cannot boot from saved recovery data. It works with original factory settings only when you have Toshiba recovery installation option as shown in the document.

My house-mate has recently (in the past 2 weeks) bought a Toshiba laptop (satellite A60 line) which has a curious booting issue.
About 2/3 to 3/4 of the boot ups, on the first boot attempt she gets an error message indicating that the driver for the on-board ATI display adapter couldn't start and windows will restart. On this subsequent restart the systems boots normally.
The laptop came preinstalled with XP home and was updated to service pack2 pretty much as soon as it was gotten home. Anybody any ideas if this could be the problem?

Thanks for any ideas

My house-mate recently bought a Toshiba Satellite A60 laptop machine. It appears to have a bit of an issue booting correctly.
On 60-75% of boot attempts the result is an error meesage indicating the driver for the onboard ATI display adapater could not start correctly and that the system will restart. On this second reboot the system invariably starts normally.
Any ideas on what could be the issue? Does this machine require a BIOS update?.. or perhaps it is an issue brought on by the patching of the preinstalled XP home with service pack2.

Any ideas gratefully recieved

I have a Satellite L35 that stops at the first screen on boot.  The bottom left of the screen says "Press F2 for Setup, Press F12 for Multiboot".  If I press either one of these the message on the bottom left of the screen says that it is going to Setup/Multiboot, but never does.  I did the normal checks: check RAM, hard drive, connections, try with battery, with AC power .... nothing worked.  I called Toshiba Tech Support and they said to put in the recovery CD and tap "C" as the computer booted and the system recovery would begin ... no such luck.  Does anyone know of any other key combinations to get around this issue?

I've got a Toshiba Satellite 1800-S204 laptop that won't bootup. It gets power. It seems like the battery charges. When I turn it on the power light comes on and it takes a few minutes and I can hear the processor fan come on. If I hold the power button down, the power button goes off, so it does actually turn on /off. The HDD LED doesn't come on at all, and I hear no HDD activity. The DVD drive doesn't open and doesn't seem like it works. The laptop screen was dark a few months ago and after reseating the inverter board, worked fine. It no longer boots up. It doesn't display anything on an external monitor either (pressing Fn&F5 should toggle displays. No buttons seem to have an effect. The original HDD was having the same problem, so a new one was installed with the same problem. I'm pretty sure it's not a HDD or display problem, but I could be wrong. Can this be related to memory? Or a strange power supply (the original was broken, so i replaced it with a different model with same voltage output)?

I don't know what proc is in it, but I know it had Win2000 Pro on it. One day during a presentation, I got BSOD. After this, it never booted correctly.

Any ideas? I always appreciate the help I get from this board, you'se are always so helpful.

Thanks!

I have Toshiba Satellite 1805, I realize I should know what the specs are, but I can't get into the computer to see what they are now. I bought this computer about four or five years ago, and have Windows XP on it.

I recently discovered that the reason that my computer would not go into standby or hibernate mode was because of the Adobe Type Manager 4.0, which I deleted, and was finally able to make my computer standby for one day.

This morning, when I tried to get my computer off standby and running, the screen came back completely white (blank). I tried to turn it off and reboot it, but the screen continues to either show blank or narrow parallel lines across half the screen. It also doesn't make the usual boot up noises, so I suspect that it's not booting up at all.

The computer has not been traumatized, nor have I changed anything recently other than what I just described, and some of the power settings (that is I changed some of the settings for when the computer runs on battery).

Can someone offer a solution?
