I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A little bit ago, i had to uninstall zonealarm so that i could install kaspersky anti-virus to get rid of a few nasty bugs. i didnt want anything coming into my computer so i took out the ethernet cable. after removing lots of viruses, i put the ethernet cable back in and the local area connection said there was "Limited or no connectivity." so, i did all the routine stuff, unplug the modem and plug it back in, check to see if the driver was working properly, ect... however it still said limited or no connectivity. i called up my internet provider and they gave me an ip adress to manually enter under network connnections, since it was not getting one automatically. now the internet was working fine, that is: everything said it was connected and working properly but when i clicked on my browser it still would not work. then i went into run: cmd to see what was up, and a bunch of error messages came up, somthing about an illegal operation.
After a couple days of trying stuff, i did run:cmd again just for the hell of it and it works fine now.

so, my computer works absolutly fine, but i still cannot connect to the internet, even though the internet is connected. any help you can give is greatly appreciated for I am at a complete and utter lost.

Answer:Internet is working fine, but my computer still wont go online, what is going on?

When you go into Network Connections in the control Panlel, are there any unidentified connections to an IP address that is not your own? If so delete them. I would try another browser like Mozilla Firefox and see if that works. Viruses love to attack anything Microsoft related and the viruses could have destroyed the connection setting for Internet Explorer. Try Firefox and see if that works. Also make sure nothing elso is running, like Anti-Virus and Zone Alarm.

I have a friend who's computer works great on my network and my computer works great on his network, but when his computer is hooked to his network internet connectivity is slow and intermittantly fails.

Both computers are were connected directly to the router via the same ethernet cable, both units are laptops.

Again, vista believes it is connected to the internet, and it is, but the connection is just horrible. At my house it works beautifully.

His computer that is not connecting:
HP pavilion dv6748us.
procesor is AMD turion64x2
OS VISTA Home Premium 32bit
2 gb RAM

My laptop that worked on his connection is:
old SONY with windows XP pro
1gb RAM

Already have done the following:
Reset internet explorer 7
used the MSCONFIG console to turn off ALL startup processes just in case.
Ran a quick scan with superantispyware

I would have tried a differant browser but I could not download it, took it to my house so I could use a flash drive or let it sit forever and download and to my amazement there was no connectivity issues whatsoever.

After a number of things not working as wanted and my XPS 8700 running slower and slower I went for the 'reset' option in Windows 10 Home. (I had forgotten how much work it is to reinstall all the programs I like to use.) Everything works fine except for Google Desktop. It appears to install OK, however it will not open a browser window to show any results.

This program was working just fine on Windows 10 before the reset so I don't know what that changed to suddenly make it incompatible.

I have several external USB drives attached to my Dell running constantly. Google Desktop never had any problem searching and indexing all drives and reporting results pretty fast. Now I can't access the setting to tell it what to index. The search box comes up but it won't open a browser window or tab to show any results.

I've already tried several supposed fixes including one registry hack which did work to set the indexing preferences, however that had no effect on the program's inability to open the browser window or tab to show search results. I've also uninstalled and reinstalled it trying different settings choices on the install window, about a dozen times by now. Even tried the "Windows 7 compatibility" setting in troubleshooting.

Having a great indexing and search function that doesn't eat all my computer's resources is important. I'd even pay for one if it was as good as Google Desktop was when it was working. I'd appreciate any suggestions on how to resolve this is... Read more

Answer:Google Desktop won't work after computer reset. Working fine before.

Adding my own reply/comment, I've noticed that Thunderbird doesn't run right either since the reset. It's taken to hanging up and having to be restarted. I never had trouble with that app in the past. What are the chances that the "reset" didn't do a good job of restoring the computer to it's original state? Should I try to go through it all over again hoping for better results? Any ideas? Thanks.

Hi all,

For a while in our house we were using only US Cellular Broadband connect, which is essentially a mobile 3G USB adapter. We uninstalled this from all the computers when we recently got Charter cable internet which is being broadcasted wirelessly with a Netgear cg3000d-rg. I know that the US Cellular broadband turns off wifi connectivity, but we made sure to uninstall all the drivers and software. We have 2 comps running XP and one Macbook, all able to connect to the new router. One Acer Aspire One is the holdout. It connected wirelessly fine before, but now will not work. It says it's "connected" and assigns an IP, but no matter what browser it will not load any webpages.

Im using a Dell 4800 and Windows XP.
Thanks in advance
Lee

Answer:dvds wont play but cds and cd/rom work fine

Mostlikely a FAiled DVD laser or laser alignment (new drive needed)
However try:
Uninstalling reinstalling the drive in Device Manager
(IDE drives)
ensure drive data cable is secure at drive and motherboard swap cables if you have a spare.

Answer:websites wont open but torrents work fine

1st thing i would do is tr another anti virus scan with another program.i use avg free
http://www.filehippo.com/download_avg_antivirus/
be sure to disable kaspersky before scan with avg.
then run scan with malwarebytes. dont have to disable anything.
http://majorgeeks.com/download5756.html

or you could try some online scans (never used them)

good luck

ps you could try system restore.

Answer:T7600 and T5600 were working fine. i stored them away for year. i opened them and now they both do not start. shows yellow 3 and 4 with power button lit

Start off by replacing the motherboard batteries on both because they're probably dead.

Power off, unplug
Press/hold power button for ~15 sec
Open case, remove battery (see each model's service manual on Dell's Support site for details)
Press/hold power button for ~30 sec
Install fresh 3-volt CR2032 lithium ion battery (~$2)
Close case and try to boot with only mouse, monitor and keyboard connected

Hi, i have some problems with my 8gb flash drive.
i get a few error when i try to fix it the way i can only think off, maybe someone else knows how i can fix it.

firstly: When i plug it in i get this error:

I click format as i think it will fix it and i get this:
As you can see it says "unknown capacity" and i dont know why or how to fix it.

i then click format and i get this error:
i then click close on the format window as i dont know what else to do and i get this error:

I have it plugged in correctly as its only 1 and a half inches long and it plugs smoothly into my usb port. The only thing i can think of that has made it crash like this is that the school computers have the "safely remove hardware" feature removed so i have to just remove it. Nothing has been done to this to damage the actuall hardware physically.

If anyone has any ideas on how to fix this i would appreciate it, if you could point me in the right direction.

Thanks.

Answer:Solved: Sandisk usb flash drive wont work

Hi folks,

I am hoping that one of you whizz kids can help me. For a few weeks now, IE7 only works around 50% of the time. When it stops working it attempts to connect to internet sites but nothing happens. It acts as if there is no internet connection at all. It is the same for all internet sites. I can try it again 10 minutes later (without re-booting the PC) and it will work fine again for a while.

My internet connection is 100% stable and other browsers such as Opera work fine, even when IE7 stops working.

I tried uninstalling SP3, SP2 and IE7 and reinstalling them all but it made no difference. I am currently running XP SP3. I tried posting in the virus/malware section of this site but the experts can see no evidence of any malware or trojans etc. My system appears clean.

Do any of you have any ideas why this is happening? It happens maybe 10 times per day on average and is very annoying.

Answer:IE7 not working. Other browsers work fine.

By the way, here is a screenshot of IE7 when it is trying to access Google.

I built a computer and then went to download windows 7 and it downloads it,restarts then acts like it wasnt downloaded. what do i do?
i was downloading windows 7 and it came up asked me what HDD to download on it i told it which one then it downloaded windows 7. then it restarts and comes back up and wants me to select a HDD to download windows 7 on so i thought mabe it just derped the first time and so i
redownloaded it . I go to redownload it and it's already taken space for the old windows 7 meaning it obviously did something and i popes up with a msg telling me that there is already a version of windows installed on that HDD and if i continue it will take the old windows and put it in a file call windows.old . so i continued and i did this several times changing some settings in the bios every time hoping something would work. last night my uncle said that after i download it try switching my boot order so that my HDD with windows on it is first in stead of the optical drive with windows 7 boot disk. and that mabe it did download but it was kept going strait to the windows 7 disk instead of checking the HDD. so i tried and it but it did the same thing.

Answer:T60 wont pick up a valid ip address, Driver seems ok, wireless is working fine

Hi Damien. I have a couple of questions here for you: 1) When you plug in the ethernet cable, are you seeing both the green and amber lights flashing? Hopefully there isn't a problem with the internal pins on your NIC or a problem with the router configuraton or the cable itself. 2) Also, go to the shell prompt (Start->Run->CMD->Enter) and type the follwing for me: ping 127.0.0.1 Let me know if you see 4 replies with 0% loss Next, type the following at the shell prompt: ipconfig Type the results of the statics shown. Need to see the IP address, subnet mask, and gateway showing. I'm checking to see if there are any configuring issues first. Of course you can also use the release and renew commands and flush the DNS if needed. Possible resetting Winsock too might help? If everything appears normal and problems still persist, you want want to consider getting the systemboard replaced. Systembords can act funny at times (especially with the NIC being integrated). This would fix the problem, yes... but just make certain there are not configuring issues first.  Let me know if this helps you out any. Best,Mark

When I plug my Samsung 906 BW flat screen using the DVI connections, for the first time, I appear to get a good digital connection, meaning sharp letters and the information screen on the monitor shows a match with the resolution/refresh rate shown on control panel. However, if I slide the resolution to a different value, the screen goes fuzzy and the monitor info readout does not match the computer resolution. It seems if I plug into the other digital port it will sometimes work. However, when you reboot, you get fuzzy. I have the latest driver for the 8800 GTX, but I didn't load any monitor drivers. I did that before I had to replace the hard drive, and that didn't make any difference.

I recently got a new laptop.  I'm not sure if this problem has always existed on it, or if it is new.  However, I am noticing two things:

1.  If I try to go to my bank's web site (www.peoples.com) it will not load.  On Chrome it says ERR_CONNECTION_CLOSED, on IE it says "The Page cannot be displayed" and on Firefox the tab spins as if it's loading but the page never comes up.

2.  If I try to go to Staples Easy Rebates site, I get mixed results.  (URL: https://rebate.staples.com/staples/tracksearch.action).  On Chrome, I believe it errors out but the URL goes in a loop and tries to connect.  If I look at the URL I believe it is trying to redirect to an error page.  On IE I get the same issue.  On Firefox, the page loads.

On other machines, these pages load fine.  Thinking it could potentially be a router issue (bought a new router at a similar time), I brought this laptop to another location and had the same issues.  I've also run Malwarebytes and Anti-virus, etc.  At the moment, I don't suspect it to be that type of issue (but could be wrong).

I believe the network/internet settings are the original default settings.  I didn't set any custom proxy servers or anything of the sort.  I tried searching the issue before creating this post, but since my problem is unique (at least to the two sites mentioned above) I couldn't find similar situations.  I'm at... Answer:Certain Web Pages Not working on laptop (work fine on other machines)

Hello, and Welcome

I am not sure this will work as you said you brought the laptop to another location.

Have you tried using different DNS servers? Use OpenDNS. Make a note of what servers if any are listed. You may have yours set to Auto. After changing the DNS to OpenDNS servers, remember to flush the DNS amd Web browser cache.

I am assuming you are using Windows 7.

Hi

I run an old Hewlett-Packard PC which does not have Internet access, but can get the use of a PC that does. My OS is Windows XP, Service Pack 3.

I've just found that my Hitachi 320GB portable drive won't work on my own PC anymore (it makes a clicking sound - about 2 clicks per second - and it doesn't show up anywhere in Windows, not even Device Manager). On the other PC, though, it's fine.

I thought it might be a driver problem, but since this drive was 'plug and play' to the best of my recollection, I don't know if this is the case.

I've tried to do a drivers scan, but since I can't get the PC onto the Internet, I'm having no luck - the free driver scanner I've tried (Device Doctor) won't save its results so that I can transfer them to the Internet PC.

And I don't even know if this is a drivers problem anyway.

I'd be very grateful for any advice (try to put it simply, please, as I'm a bit of a beginner).

Thanks.

im running an 8 month old toshiba with vista and realtek audio with updated drivers. surround sound speakers bought in iraq were used on audio output for about a week... then the speakers started acting funny, like with one speaker and one headphone working when headphones were plugged in. then the internal speakers squealed loudly whenever the computer was powered. had to take the speakers out just to get them to stop, and now audio output does not work at all. computer tests both devices as working properly, and drivers are updated.

I just built my first computer. When i was done I turned it on installed all the drivers and OS and everything was fine for about 5 days.
Then suddenly i go to turn it on and nothing. Not even the fans booted up. So I opened it up and the standby LED was on on the motherboard but nothing was happening when I would press the power button.
So I listened a little closer and when i would hit the power button the power supply would make this low volume high pitch beeping sound. Almost like an alarm.

Does anyone know what this could be? Did I short out a part on the motherboard? Maybe in the power supply?

Answer:Computer build: Turned on fine for day now wont

Disconnect the power cable from the back of the power supply, press and hold the power button on the front of the case for 30 seconds, then plug in the power and try turning it on.

If that doesn't work, try another power supply from another computer.

Answer:my computer wont connect but others in the house do just fine

The problem is the same for both ethernet and Wi-Fi connections?

What firewall or security suite is, or ever was, on the system?

Please attach a screen shot of the Networks page (don't collapse the Radar, Connection or Signal History) of the Xirrus Wi-Fi Inspector. If you need help with that see TSG Posting a Screenshot. FWIW to take screen shots with Windows 8 or 7 or Vista I prefer to use the built-in Snipping Tool.

please help

Answer:Image CD software doesn't work in Windows 7 was working fine in XP

Not all XP programs are 100% Win 7 compatible. Probably the problem with the game. Try running the game in XP compatibility mode and see if that helps.

I'm really baffled here as to what's going on with my laptop audio. It was working just a few days ago from what I remember and now tonight when I was playing a game in Steam the audio just wasn't working. Checked audio settings in the game, all was good. Turned the game off and started testing using YouTube, still nothing. The volume is definitely up and I found that headphones work fine. When I open the 'Playback devices' dialogue from right clicking the speaker in the task bar it shows the green equalizer bar moving up and down if something is playing, but there's no audio. I've checked for any conflicting devices in here and ensured everything was enabled as per usual.

So far I've updated the drivers, uninstalled the drivers completely and reinstalled them (automatically after restarting laptop), and have checked for updates on my computer (all up to date). My device manger does have 2 drivers listed which I thought was weird, but maybe it has always been like this? I'm not sure honestly. I uninstalled both and they both came back after restarting. See the image here:

Is there anything else to try? I thought uninstalling the drivers and reinstalling them would fix it, but nope.

System details: Windows 10, Acer Aspire laptop (~7 months old? No issues thus far). Let me know if I need to provide any more details! Very frustrated and need to get to bed now because of work in the morning, but I will be sure to check back and try any suggestions and answer any questions.

Last time I burned a CD with nero I had no problem, a couple weeks ago.

Now, when I try to load a blank CD into my CD-RW drive, the light just goes red and spins the disc. When I load it into my Iomega DVD+-R/W drive, it recognizes them as blank CD's, and will even start the process of burning with DVD decyptor, but no data is burned and I get a semaphore timeout error.

BUT, DVD's burned from images in the exact same directory as stuff I try to burn to CD burn Perectly Fine.

Furthermore, I tried the CD-R's on a completely different comptuer (although, it is on the network here at school along with my computer) and again, the discs are recognized and loaded and blank, but I get a "disc not suitable for recording error immediately with Roxio and Music Match.

Uninstalling and reinstalling the drives does nothing. My DVD burner works fine in every way except burning CD-R's.

I have tried 5 different kinds of CD-R and CD-RW's now and nothing seems to solve this problem. I ran Norton, Ad Aware, and Spybot last night with nothing out of the ordinary. I did notice that System Restore has been turned off, which is something I would never do (bummer for me, can't try going back with settings). Any ideas???? Thanks for your help

Answer:BIZARRE - no CD-R's will burn, DVD+R's work fine in same drive

Try uninstalling and reinstalling. Make sure you have the right recorder set in Nero. If that doesn't help. You got me

I have a Dell Studio 1555 Bios A13

I have three flash drives, one a 1gb HP flash drive, one a 2gb Sandisk Cruzer, and one a 16gb Patriot XT

When the HP 1gb drive and Sandisk 2gb are plugged in during boot, nothing happens. It POSTs fine and starts windows.

When the Patriot drive is plugged in during boot, the BIOS hangs 2/3rds of the way through POST.

I have tried multiple formatting schemes. Also note that there is absolutely nothing on any of these drives, they are empty and freshly formatted.

1gb formatted to FAT works, FAT32 works, exFAT works, all regardless of allocation size.

2gb formatted to FAT works, FAT32 works, exFAT works, all regardless of allocation size.

16gb formatted to FAT32 fails, exFAT fails, regardless of allocation size. I have tried a full (non-quick) format to check for bad sectors, to no avail. I have tried HP format tool rather than windows format tool, to no avail.

So at this point I'm thinking it's the Dell BIOS at fault here, and I'm going to have to dualboot instead of making a multiboot drive. If anybody can help suggestions would be great.

Answer:USB flash drive preventing POST, others work fine

go into your bios and see if you have the option to boot from a flash drive, if you do disable it. then it should boot as normal, ignoring the flash drives until it reaches windows

Hi, I recently installed a new chassis fan (LED Which required to be plugged into psu, old fan only required motherboard connection).
I took the LED fan out of the system completely and put the old one back as i could smell some burning, now the cpu, chassis and psu fan won't move as i start up the system, the computer boots up fine, but it over heats as you would expect, I don't even get any error relating to anything not working.
The computer is a Compaq Presario 5000 desktop.

I've upgraded systems before but have never encountered a problem like it, could it be the psu on its way out? maybe i've shorted something? I've doubled over making sure everything is connected but everything seems to be in order.

Answer:Computer boots up fine but cpu, psu and chassis fan do not work

It sounds to me as if you'v burnt out a 12v line in psu somehow, the psu fan is temperature controlled completely seperate from the cpu fan controller which is controlled by the motherboard, the only thing I can think of is a dead 12v line,I dont understand why it still boots

Yeh I agree get a new PSU

Hey guys,

So an hour or two ago I was on my desktop when suddenly it restarted on its own. It restarted and booted fine, and allowed me to sign in to my account with no problems.

When the desktop loaded up, instead of the usual set of programs that automatically start popping up, nothing happened. My desktop looks fine, but nothing started. So, thinking something might be wrong I immediately attempted to run MalwareBytes and Ad-Aware -- but they wouldn't start up.

I had a problem like this before, where I had to get around a virus blocking MWB by downloading the installer and installing it again to run it, so I tried to open a browser to attempt that -- my browsers won't open.

Basically, none of my programs will open. I navigate to various folders on my computer, but I cannot run a program from any location.

I attempted to add a new administrator account to see if I could run various virus removal programs from it, but was unable to access the Add/Remove Accounts function, and had to add a new account via the command prompt and add it to the administrator groups the same way. When I logged into that account I found the same problem -- no programs are able to run.

When I attempt to run a program I receive no error or pop-up, they just simply do nothing.

Next I booted my computer into Safe Mode with Command Prompt, navigated to my MalwareBytes folder, and attempted to run it from safe mode using mbam.exe /fullscan and experienced the same problem.... Read more

I have used TSG before and am asking for help again. I would post information regarding my computer but I have notbeen able to open any internet connections on my desktop in several days. For some reason there are several non responsive programs on the desktop that will not open. I am writing this from my Asus netbook, which is connected to the same network so I do not believe its the network itself, but who knows. I tried to run HiJackThis, but it would not load, IE and Mozilla Firefox will not open or load...I double click, you see the hour glass, and then, nothing happens. When I try to use contorl-alt-delete to see if the program is nonresponsive my task manager will not open and then my start menu will also not open. Interestingly, my Mozilla Thunderbird email opens with no problems and downloads messages from the server. There are two things that are different about my computer in the last several months. One is that I got rid of my printer and got a new one, and I do not think that would affect the connectivity? The other is that I tried installing google chrome and was super disappointed to find toolbars installed without my knowledge or permission. I didnt care much for the software and did some research, mostly onthis site and found many complaints about the toolbars being downloaded with instalation of chrome and lots of difficulty getting rid of the toolbars despite uninstalling chrome. I found a solution that called for uninstalling and reinstalling chrome and th... Read more

OK, this has happened before, but I overlooked what was causing it. I posted a thread about the previous problem here. To make a long story short, I added RAM into the computer and then it wouldn't load XP. I was mixing ECC and non-ECC, I thought that had something to do with it. I reinstalled XP and it worked fine, so heres the "new" problem:

I think I only shut down the computer once after reinstalling XP. But I shut it down over night, then when I turned it on the next morning, it wouldn't load XP. It just hangs on the screen just before the Windows logo screen is suppose to pop up. The screen that says "verifying DMI pool data...." I know it doesn't freeze because the cursor is still blinking at the bottom left.

I don't understand why this is happening. I cant afford to reinstall Windows again because I have files on the HDD that I need to save. Worst comes to worst I can slave the HDD on another computer to rescue them, but I still want to try and get this HDD to work as normal on this machine.

I'm thinking, could it be some kind of driver problem? Firmware or something? Although I don't know why for two reasons, everything else works fine and the motherboard is older then the hard drive. The computer ran fine when I was using it. The HDD is recognized in the BIOS. Maybe this HDD is screwy? Maybe some sort of incompatibility with this computer?

Any way, this is a huge problem for me since this IS my backup computer (D... Read more

A few days ago, I upgraded my Windows 7 laptop to Windows 10 and took Cortana for a bit of a test drive. It wasn't great but it might be useful on some occasions.

Today, I bought a brand new laptop which installed Windows 10 when I powered it on. After the installation, I was checking things out a bit and wanted to verify that Cortana was working on the new laptop. Cortana promptly told me it was not available in this region!

This makes no sense to me. I was in Southern Ontario, Canada, both times (although in different cities within the area). I can't believe that Cortana would work in London Ontario but NOT in Kitchener Ontario, which is only an hour east of London.

Does anyone have any idea how I can coax Cortana to work on the new laptop? It's not that it's a must-have app for me but it *might* be useful on occasion or even fairly often if I give it half a chance.

Answer:Cortana won't work on new computer; works fine on older one.

Hi, have a look at this and see if you can solve your problem.

Hi there, thanks in advance.

I've had this computer a few months and so far it works great. Then today I turn it on and try to go on the internet and it says I have no connection. Tried plugging and unplugging the cable, wiggled it around, tried to connect it with a different cable and I still have no internet. The cable is in, it tells me there is a local area connection and all, but when I go to properties there is not IP, etc etc.

I have it on a network, if that helps, and none of the others have this problems. The computer prints to a shared printer attached to another computer on my network, so I tried to print something to see if that was still working, but it says it can't due to an unknown error.

Is there a fix for this?

Answer:Computer seems fine, but the ethernet input doesn't work?

You might try cycling the modem and router.
Unplug the power from the back of the router and modem for 10 seconds.
Plug the router back in and let it boot up,then do the same with the modem.

I've been running a set-up with my two roommates for almost 2 years now. We use a hard-wired router for internet connections, and recently mine quit working. I still can connect to the router itself, but not to the internet. The other two computers still have great connectivity. I've tried manually changing the I.P. address which doesn't solve any problems. Cycling the router and/or modem does nothing, and repairing the connection tells me that nothing is wrong with it.

It's been really frustrating and I'd love to solve this problem. I haven't tried directly plugging my computer into the modem (instead of through the router)...would that tell me anything? Any help would be fantastic.

Answer:Computer connects to the router, but not to the Internet... Others work fine

Ok, I have tried direcly connecting to the modem and the same problem happens. It says that I am connected at 100mps (just like the router) but i cannot access anything online. Pinging sites such as google comes back negative. Running ipconfig/renew or release does nothing (i think because I put in a manual IP...if i have it set to find its own IP, it gives me Limited or No connectivity). ipconfig/flushdns comes back ok. I'm pretty stuck here...could it be something wrong with my laptop's hardware?

I am looking for the reason why my Compaq laptop (Win 7 Home Premium) won't recognize new flash drives but older ones are. They are recognized on another computer so I know the flash drives are okay. The USB port also recognizes my external hard drive with no problem.
I've probably messed up or deleted some setting and/or program while trying to get rid of bloat so my computer would operate faster.
Device Manager shows them under Other Devices with the yellow "not working" sign and under properties says "The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28)"

Hello,
I'm sorry if this is in wrong category but I didn't know where to post it since I don't know where the problem is.

The problem is this: There are two accounts on my PC - Admin - which is me, and Guest. Since yestarday evening I wasn't able to log into my account. The Guest one is okay and everything works here but I have everything (work and stuff) on Admin so I need it.
When I try to log into my account one of those things happen: It either gets stuck on "welcome" screen and I have to turn off the PC manualy OR it logs me onto my account but I can't do anything because when I try to click anything like internet, music, trash bin... just everything it just starts loading but doesn't work at all and I can't even log off or restart it - ctrl+alt+delete doesn't work either so I have to shut if off again.
This happend to me few weeks ago but I googled it and thanks to "msconfig" in safe mode -> disable all startup things it worked again untill yestarday. Now even if I try that again it doesn't work. I spent few hours googling this but I can't find answer so I have to ask you guys.
I have Windows 7 Home Premium (I'd give you more specs but it only works on admin acc so yeah...)
Thanks for any help.

Answer:Solved: My PC account doesn't work but the other one is fine

sounds like either a corrupt profile or an infection of some sort. try booting into safe mode on the admin account and run a malwarebytes scan and go to security.live.com and run that scan also. also, see if anything goes wrong when you're in safe mode. while you're there, check the msconfig again to see if the startup items you disabled are enabled again. then disable them one at a time and see if you can narrow down the one that's causing the issue. it will take a while with the reboots, but it is a first step if the scans don't find anything.

Hi, I connect to a router which is connected to a cable modem. I can't get service but my brother can who has the wireless part. I did a ping test and got a reply. it said 4 sent 4 received 0% lost. I bought a new ethernet cable just in case it was that. And, in a fit of despondency, backed up all my files and did a system store back to factory settings since it is a dell to no avail. I tried repairing the connection and it said IP address couldn't be renewed and when I try to get on the net a little box says I have limited or no connectivity. Ipconfig says
no conection dns suffix
IP 169.254.92.206
next line has 255.255.0.0
Since I am having to run from one computer to another, (in separate rooms) nice detailed instructions for what to try that I can print would be great. I am so bummed and I am hoping someone can shine some light on this. I am extremely computer literate when it comes to office software and the like but not so good with terminology so simple instructions would be great. To my knowledge, since I did the restore, I have no firewall in use, but have macafee virus protection. need anymore infoI will be around all day.
Thanks, a truly grateful Wendy

What I did that I think might have caused the problem is, I have 2 hard drives in my computer: a 500gb that windows is installed on and then a 1tb hard drive that I just put in recently. After about a week of putting the 1tb hard drive in I formatted it so that I could use it as storage. Im not sure what I formatted it to because I was really just wanting to erase whatever was on it. I wasn't sure if i was going to use it as my main windows hdd or just use it as storage.

Now after a long delade boot, the 1tb hdd dosnt show up in My Computer or in device manager under drives.

Here is the run down of what happens at the boot:

at the bios DELL screen, it lags for about 3-4 minus (cant even hit F2 at this point for settings).
Then I get a message that says "Drive 2 not found: Serial ATA sata-2
Alert! Failed to detect one or more drives during POST."

I can push F1 to contune and when I do, windows boots up and everything seems fine but the second drive dosent show up in My computer or in device manager under drives.

If i unplug that hdd then boot, I get no such alert and it boot as normal

I built my first custom PC a month or two ago, and this is the first problem I've encountered.
I live in an apartment complex that provides their own ISP, so my PC has been plugged straight into my ethernet port in my wall (no router). It's worked perfectly until just today.

In the bottom right corner, my computer is telling me that I am connected to the internet, but nothing's working...I really hope it's not a problem with my motherboard.

The thing is, every other device, wired or wireless, in my apartment obtains internet, so I feel like it has to be something with my computer. It was working fine last night and I came home today do start homework and it wont connect.

I'll provide whatever information may help with solving this problem. Anything at all would be appreciated.
Thanks!

Answer:Computer says connected, but i get no internet. Other dives in the apartment work fine

Hey mattyg. A few questions.

Are you just using one browser or do you have the same issue when you try a second browser?

If another pc in your apartment connects and gets on the Net via Ethernet cable, is it using the same wall jack?

Is the wireless connection your wireless device connects to coming from your building's Internet connection, or could it be connecting from some other network?

What message do you get when your browser opens and cant make a connection to the Net?

My Google Chrome decided it did not want to work properly. It was so bad, I thought if I downloaded it again it would work. Now, it is not working at all. ALL my add-ons crashed and so did Google chrome. I can't fix it. I tried. My computer is 6 yrs, old. Should it be that bad off already?

Hello,

Both my laptop and my desktop are connected wirelessly and my cable speed is supposedly 10mb dl / 1mb ul

However, my laptop is getting approx. 8mb dl / 1 mb ul while my desktop is getting 10 mb dl / 0.2 mb ul

This makes my desktop virtually unplayable for games (i.e. Diablo 3) and results in many deaths for my DH.

Please help,

Hank

Answer:[SOLVED] Slow Upload on my desktop, all other PCs work fine

Download and upload speeds depends on many factors. Bandwidth. Some ISP allocated bandwidth to Business subscribers during business hours to maximize their usage. Residential subscribers get the low end of the bandwidth. If you have DSL the quality of your phone line if it is creating noise factors in it too. Your computer performance plays a good part how much RAM you have installed, the speed of your wifi adapter, updated drivers, also the speed of your computer CPU, RAM, GPU during gaming mostly effect FPS rates.
What is the make and model of your machine. How much RAM do you have installed. If your pc is custom built what is the brand, and model of your mobo? (Motherboard)

For gaming (Online) I would recommend going wired. Also look into your Router to see if you have anyone outside of your house leeching your internet if your wifi via your router is not encrypted.

Once i got inside the machine i took out the 2 fans, the RAM, and the hard drive, and unscrewed the power supply box but didnt unhook anything from there. Once i finished i reconnected everything and tried to turn on my computer, but nothing was showing up on the monitor. The computer starts normally, there's a green light inside of it so its getting power, the monitor says "test good" whenever i test to see if its working. I've also already tried plugging my monitor into the motherboard port as well as its default port. Can anyone help?

Answer:Old xp computer keyboard works fine but when on boot menue it dont work

I think you will probably need to temporarily connect whichever alternative keyboard (PS/2 or AT) the system has input for, enter the BIOS setup as indicated on the boot screen, and enable an option which is commonly called Legacy USB. The system should then respond to the USB keyboard prior to Windows starting.

This often occurs on older systems when the CMOS data has been reset back to BIOS default values. Make sure the CMOS backup battery hasn't gone flat, or it is likely to happen again.

My computer was a little slow to start and I found the PC HealthAdvisor was forced to "call" in to activate the download and they took remote control of my computer. Suddenly something that was just meant to tweak my computer to speed it up turned into my computer was in "critical" condition and in need of me spending $200 for a microsoft certified tech to fix it. They were using a very hard sell showed me my computer had 20,000 events lots of warnings and errors. He told me my computer was in danger of crashing I should have taken care of it better. I am a software user and by that I mean I can use the basic office package and do some neat tricks with it, but by no means an expert and I can get around in the internet again certainly can not make it do everything it has the ability to do. I have no clue what an event code is let alone how the heck to fix it. and I really don't have $200 bucks right at this point to have them fix it. So any one go any ideas where to start with the 20,000 errors?

Answer:Slow start up but computer seems to be working fine otherwise

I would first try to set it back to an early restore point and if that does not help reinstall Windows from the recovery partition (but for that you have to save your own files first). If you still have the slow boot problem, we can try to fix that - this is usually pretty easy.

But in no way pay those suckers $200 - that is ludicrous.

If you need any help with the above mentioned steps, let us know.

I have a HP Pavillion a1640n with Windows 7 Home 32 bit edition installed. I went to use it and it was on, and it had installed updates (even when I specified for it not to, as I had a bad experience before). And it restarted. When it restarted it then was in a Start up recovery loop. When I tried the recovery, it couldn't find anything wrong. I did some research and tried fixing the master boot record which had no effect. I tried the fix for the infinite restarting loop. No effect. I can get to the command prompt when the start up repair fails. I've tried disabling the auto restart after failure and I get the blue screen of death, and it will not start. I can not get it in safe mode either.

So I thought I'll re-install windows. Can't do that because now when I put anything in my CD/DVD drive it restarts the computer over and over and doesn't load anything! I tried getting into command prompt and trying to run it from there, nope it restarts the machine. I am lucky that I can get the cd out of there, and then it starts in the start up repair loop.

Is there a fix for this or is this computer just toast? is there a way in command prompt to disable the CD/DVD drive in case windows updated the driver and it's not compatible?

I've tried a restore point, for it to tell me that there are none and I have not disabled restore points at all in my computer.

I am trying a chkdsk and it's stuck on 19 percent complete so far.

Here are my specs: Pavillion 1640a ... Read more

Answer:Computer working fine until Windows Update

You can chage the Bios boot order. But first disconnect all usb peripherial devices, Printer, Cameras, Ipods. Except keyboard and Mouse. This will allow you to start the computer with the Winodws Cd/DVD. Thus allowing you to run a reapair or completly re-install your Windows OS. Should you want to try to save any information on your Hard Drive. Then attempt to run repair from the windows disk. If not then just Re-install Windows. Please See the following instructins. Now Some other member with more experience may have other suggestion. Please take their advice as well. Still Learning Learning Still.
Change the boot order in the BIOSTurn off the computer: If the computer works, click Start , click Turn Off Computer , and then click Turn Off .
If the computer is not in Windows, press and hold the power button approximately five seconds until the computer turns off.
Disconnect devices that are connected to USB, Firewire, parallel and serial ports, except the keyboard, and the mouse.
Turn on the computer.
When the color screen with the logo appears, press the F1 key on the keyboard until Entering SETUP is displayed. (You only have a few seconds to press the F1 key before the normal startup process continues.) Wait until the BIOS setup program opens.
Press the right arrow key to select Boot .

Hey guys,
So I've been struggling with this problem all day, and there are many forums around the internet like this, but none are exactly like mine, and I've tried a lot of the troubleshooting options that seem to work for others but haven't fixed my problem. Firstly, I've recently put together a computer and everything works fine, even the keyboard and mouse work in BIOS. Now I've gone out and got my hands on an OEM copy of Windows 7 to install (buying the retail here is now close to impossible since Windows 8 was released a little while back) and now I've come home to install it, and I noticed during the installation I could only use my keyboard to enter details, mouse didn't work, so I had to tab, space and enter my way through. Until I come to enter the product key, keyboard is still fine, then I realize the odd key isn't working (without giving too much away, my H and 0 keys), which I find odd as all the others are. I end up skipping this part and finish the installation, to now where I try and connect to the internet, but putting in my isp password is impossible as it contains an H, and that key isn't working. I restart, unplug them both, plug them back in, and now I'm stuck at my loading screen, as now my keyboard and mouse have just stopping working entirely, which is odd as the light on the bottom of the mouse is on and so are various lights across my keyboard. After trying a few troubleshooting options (will mention below) I'm left wondering, hardware issue? (mouse... Read more

A few days ago, my computer was working fine, I had no problems.
But yesterday, I tried to boot up, and as usual, took me to the login screen. I log in and everything is horrible. the mouse is lagging and jerks around, the bar with the start button doesn't respond, and initially everything was just extremely slow. I tried to open my antivirus to run a scan to try to find a problem, but everytime I click on something the computer freezes and doesn't register that I tried to open a program. So I restarted the computer and tried to wait a bit to let it catch up before I try to do anything but after a few seconds it just bluescreens. I've tried going into the boot settings and using the last good configuratoin, but that didn't help. The only thing I can think of to do is completely reinstall Windows and I'd rather not do that. I guess it wouldn't be too horrible as everything that I can think of that I really care about keeping is also saved to cloud storage, but I would still rather not have to reinstall everything I have as well.

Has anyone else had similar problems and can I fix it without completely reinstalling Windows?

Answer:Computer was working fine 3 days ago now keeps crashed on startup

Welcome to the forums!

Did you boot into safe mode to run antivirus there? Are you seeing the bad behavior in safe mode also? Hopefully not.
Alternatively, boot to your repair disc (CD). You have one, right?
Finally, do you have access to another computer you can use? You could pull the drive on the 1st computer and repair the software on the second computer (accessing the drive as as an external device).

It all started when i was playing a game. It started loading a level and froze. Command prompt, tab-shift-alt, and all the normal remedies failed to unfreeze it, so I was forced to force shut-off my computer.

After it rebooted, i was asked to do a checkdisk scan. I accepted, and it made some repairs. Everything seemed fine after this, so I restarted the game. It was running fine for about 20 minutes, but the framerate suddenly dropped to a crawl and wouldn't improve.

I restarted my computer again, and I was asked to do a checkdisk scan again. I waited as it made more repairs. When the computer finished booting up, the cpu was straining itself (my taskmanager clocked it at a constant 100%) and everything significantly slowed down, including games.

Every time i restart it now, I get a checkdisk popup, everything goes slower, and all of these programs suddenly stop working:

Also, anytime that I right click on a folder or icon, Windows Explorer crashes!

However, the framerates for games seem back to normal, and the cpu appears to be running at normal speed again.

To try and find the problem, I rebooted the computer in safe mode. Everything that works normally in safe mode seemed to be working as usual (except that i was never asked for elevation for tasks that normally required it - I don't know if thats normal for safe mode, but thats what happened), so I ran some virus scans with Avast, Avira, and Ad-Aware. They all reported and removed a few infections, ... Read more

Answer:In a few hours, my computer has gone from working fine to critical condition

It sounds like your HDD is either dying or corrupt data is being written to it.

I would run memtest to test the memory 1st.
Memtest86+ - Advanced Memory Diagnostic Tool

If that passes then I would go to the HDD manufacturer site and see if they have a diagnostic program you can download and run.

Finally, you should go to Spyware Asylum and follow the direction for your operating system carefully.

i've had troubles since installing sp3 two weeks back. right after a spyware scan showed a problem. had it removed. over next 2 days computer went wacko. went to restore point and uninstalled sp3 and reinstalled it. things are better but still have some strange activity. ran scan today. 9 serious trojans found. five of one type and four of another. almost all in the same folder. i've read that certain spyware programs are screwing up with sp3. i don't want to remove these if they are being misidentified. have my hijack log. could anyone take a look and see if theres an indication of infection. most important, i run big karaoke shows and can't get my hosting program to run correctly. get 'ole' errors. microsoft will help me fix this but i need to rule out malicious programs first.

I have a new DELL XPS M2010 that I want to connect using wireless card. OS - Vista, Linksys Router, when I try to "Diagnose and Repair" I get the response "Cannot communicate with Primary DNS Server 68.185.34.67".

It's showing an Excellent connection to the route, but will not connect to the Internet. I've tried a few things, such as connecting to other unsecured wireless internet connections and I was able to connect to the Internet then. I also looked at another thread on this site that suggested to add a DNS Server to the list of 192.168.1.1 and nothing happened with that.

Other PCs in the house, all on wireless, connect fine (obviously including the laptop I'm posting on right now). Still searching the forums for similar solutions - here is my ipconfig information:

Try this fix: EXEFIX

Unzip the fix and extract the .reg file to the desktop. Double-click it to merge it to the registry. Note that you need to be an Administrator to apply this fix.

Reboot the computer.

If the fix only opens as a text file, right-click it and select Open With > Choose Program... Then, select the Registry Editor.

If the Registry Editor is not in the list, browse to C:\WINDOWS and select regedit.

Answer:CD/DVD drive (TSSTcorpCD H552D) doesn't work but shows in device manager

Despite what the Device Manager says the drive could still be bad. In the Device Manager check under IDE ATA/ATAPI controller to see if any of the controllers have changed to PIO mode instead of the faster DMA or UDMA mode.

It is visible in the disk manager. There is no drive letter assigned and the options to do so are grayed out. Most of the options in device manager are grayed out, except for 'delete volume' and 'help'.

Answer:hard drive w/ usb adapter- drive shows in disk manager, not computer

Windows XP Sp1

I gave my son a computer. Of course he has had it for a couple of days and already he needs help. Here is the problem, He called me so I am going to try to call him back if I can get some answers.

He loaded a game called Roller coaster tycoon and I guess everything was fine and they have been playing it for a day or two. Tonight he was going to load a game he bought at wal-mart it is just a bunch of cards games and puzzles etc. When he went to load it the directions said to go to start>Run> and type in D://exe which he did but it wouldnt do anything. He called me. I told him to go to my computer and was going to have him go to D drive but he said the D drive was not like it was suppose to be. Instead it showed like a file (a peice of paper with the one end folded in a little bit) and then the D for drive, I told him to double click it to see if it would show what was on the cd he put in but it just keeps telling him to put a cd in the tray, and thats when the cd is already in the tray. I think he said the paper that shows beside the d drive said roller coaster tycoon or something like that . I had him uninstall roller coaster tycoon and then try the other game but the d drive still had that peice of paper and it still said to put a cd in the tray when it was already in there. Can someone give me some idea's?? Thanks

Answer:Windows xp SP1- D-Drive not working-shows a file-Help

Has he restarted the PC?... That can often fix it...
I don't think it's because of RCT.. I have that game and have had no problems..

Is his drive D:? For example I have two hard drives and one is D: my CD drive is E:

As not to blame the game, wait a few days. If it's not solved here, you could ask it be moved to the correct windows forum.

It could be a small but possible chance the drive has died.. Though thats the last guess.

Hey,

I've been doing some online gaming (world of warcraft), and I kept getting these Error#131 issues. This would cause the game files to become corrupted and then I would have to repair, or reinstall. The WoW tech site says that chronic error #131 messages are either a Hard drive, Ram, or Motherboard issue.

Running the Windows Vista memory diagnostic tool has turned up some odd results, the initial test with a 1gb stick in slot #1 and a 1gb stick in slot #2 came back with errors. I then removed the ram from slot 2 and ran the test on slot 1 with 1 stick of ram.... no errors. I did the same with the other stick in slot 1.....no errors. this lead me to believe that it was slot#2 giving me the issue so I moved the ram from slot 2 to slot 3, thus having 1gb of ram in slot 1 and 1gb of ram in slot 3. After a little while......error#131 appeared.

So I then tested both sticks in slots 1 and 3 together and came back with ram errors, I then tested both sticks in slot #1, and then again in slot #2 and both tests came back fine. Any ideas on what this issue could be? I know both sticks are the same brand, speed, totally identical.

Answer:Ram Works fine in single sticks, not working fine together :P

I had this computer for almost 2 month now but recently seems to be acting a bit strange.

My specs are:

ASUS P5N-E SLI LGA 775 NVIDIA nForce 650i SLI ATX Intel Motherboard

EVGA 320-P2-N811-AR GeForce 8800GTS 320MB 320-bit GDDR3

Intel Core 2 Duo E6850 Conroe 3.0GHz 4M shared L2 Cache LGA 775

G.SKILL 2GB 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800

Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 (Perpendicular Recording) ST3500630AS 500GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s

The problem with the computer started when i tried to restart it and it simply wouldnt boot everything seemed to work the fans were spinning in every component yet it wouldnt boot as in the beep sound when a computer starts didnt sound off. One part thats intresting is that the DVD-R drive light would keep blinking green like it is reading something and make sounds. After a while leaving it for about 15 minutes or so on the computer suddenly worked and I realized this when the mobo beeped signaling its coming to life.

This was 2 days ago now yesterday late at night i was running windows when it suddenyl got really slow and froze so i restarted it manually and bam the computer wont turn on. I took it down started looking at all the components making sure everything was alright and in place I even disconnected the DVD drive completely to see if it is the cause of the problem but to now avail it just wont turn on normally. So i left it on went to my PSP hijacked someones wireless and went online to check if this problem is comm... Read more

Answer:Computer just wont work(Wont start up)

Ok my computer worked and when it booted it listed these following problems:

1-Display switch is set incorrectly

2-CMOS checksum error

3-Override enabled

4-Keyboard error or no keyboard

5- this last one it gave it to me couple of times then stopped : Warning CPU

has changed!

After listing all this it says press F1 to continue or DEL to enter setup. When i enter setup since i flashed the mobo the date was reset when i try correct the date the area where it shows which day it is flickers quickly between tues and wed and when i try to input 2007 it goes to 2056. I removed every hardware piece by piece and rebuilt the whole bloody thing I cant tell whats wrong is it my CPU, Mobo, Harddrive or powersupply all these parts are brand new and been working fine for sometime now.

For the love of god someone out there send some help as this is getting hopeless. Sometimes it turns on if i leave it on for long time on time turned right away which was after i rebuilt the pc.

I brought my computer over to my friends house yesterday. played it, worked fine, packed it up, drove home. Was too lazy to take it out of the car at 2am last night so i left it till this morning. it got to around freezing last night in maryland. Now, i just took it out, and its booting up very oddly. It sometimes boots in a different way, but generally it starts up, goes to that temporary blue screen with the HP logo (its an HP pavillion)and the 4 different F11,12,etc keys. then it goes to the Microsoft loading screen with the broken-up green bar at the bottom showing its loading the OS. BUT THEN it goes to a black screen telling me the software failed to load, and to select windows recovery, or start up normally. starting up normally brings me to a black screen of nothing but i can move the mouse around. windows recovery---

i just looked at the blue screen windows recovery was giving me on my other coputer (i type this on my moms laptop)for the past 20 min i was typing this, and it seems to have FINALY loaded the recovery thing after 20-30 min. I thought it would just stay at the blank blue screen with the mouse but after 15 min it loaded the visual of recovery manager on the screen--but no menu options i could select, everything else was blank. and i just checked it now another 15 min later and its actually loaded the whole thing. So i guess ill be back if recovery doesnt fix anyting!

Answer:left computer in car overnight, was working fine at friends house, now it just bluescreens??

welp, i just clicked on system recovery, i thought it was the system restore thing where it restores your computer to a certain point in time, but it was the one where it formats your harddrive and puts it back to its original factory condition. not what i wanted to do as i stare at the screen and cant cancel a thing. bleep.

I have Windows XP & Dell Dmension 8300 computer. My system has gotten very slow, and I can hear the computer working all the time, even when I'm not. It sounds like it's doing an antivirus scan all the time. When I check the task manager it shows no applications are open.

Answer:Solved: Slow computer/hard drive working

Perhaps you should post a screenshot of your running processes.

Hit ctrl + alt + del to open the task manager.

Open the processes tab and press ALT + Printscreen and paste it to MS Paint. Save as JPEG and post the screenshot back here.

What are your computer specifications? RAM, CPU...

Hi there,

My home wireless has been working for awhile. Now, however, my laptop just says "connected to wireless network" but I can't access the internet. The internet still works when I'm plugged in however. In other locations, my wireless laptop works fine.
- I tried resetting the router Linksys, Cisco to default settings so now it just says "Linksys" as opposed to the name it used to have.
- I tried turning my laptop on/off.

Can someone help please??

Thank you in advance.

I everyone!! thank you so much for having me on this forum. I usually do everything possible before asking for help and this problem Im really out of ideas( I have a compaq presario f700 laptop that im trying to do a clean install in. It initially had vista but i decided to put win 7 over it through my usb portable drive (inside vista). It installed but I think it would be best to do a clean install cause vista hade soo much crap and info that i suspect is making win 7 slow.. and there is where I ran into problems.....

The dvd drive inside the laptop doesnt work at all and the usb portable drive only works inside the os but cant boot through bios. The bios doesnt give me an option to boot the dvd drive and make the clean install. The bios only has options like , "usb floppy" usb hardrive", usb diskette" but no "usb rom" option" and yes, I have tried every combination possible with no luck. The usb drive only works inside of windows so i have no idea why I can't boot with it.

I have read many hours on this issue but the main consensus i find is that my laptop just doesnt have that option to boot my usb drive. If this is the case, how am i gonna do a clean install aside from buying a new dvd drive for the laptop(which may not work) please any ideas would be greatly appreciated

The laptop has 3gb of ram and a turion 64x2 so it shouldn't be taking me a minute to startup after installing a fresh win 7(through vista). This is why I want to d... Read more

Answer:Can't install 7os. DVD drive wont work, bios doesnt support usb drive.

Are you under the impression you can't clean install over an old installation by running a Custom install from the old OS which will overwrite C? This is pretty close to a clean install in the sense it isn't an inferior Upgrade install which carries over Vista programs and settings.

However I'd first try to boot the installer. After writing the ISO to stick using a reliable app like UltraISO Software To Create Bootable USB Flash Drive did you expand the USB Hard Drive choices to see if the stick is listed there as it often is? Did you try setting the HDD as first boot device in BIOS setup and then use the ESC key to display a boot menu, look for flash stick there, or expand USB HD choice there to see if USB is under that?

Did you try booting the USB DVD drive using the ESC menu, even trying the USB diskette choice to see if it will work?

If none of these work even after verifying the stick will boot successfully in another PC, then I would run the installer from the OS you have on there now, choosing C partition to do a Custom install. Afterwards your old OS will be stuffed in a C:\windows.old folder which you can save long enough to make sure you have everything then delete using Disk Cleanup.
