dv7-1135nr black screen caps lock/num lock flashing

Question: dv7-1135nr black screen caps lock/num lock flashing

My friends dv7-1135nr is not posting. The num lock and caps lock led light will flash once every 2 seconds at the same time. According to HP this issue is a " not functional" cpu. I am ordering another cpu for 16.00 off ebay because this is cheaper opposed to ordering another board. Anyone else have this issue? And if so did you fix it ?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have a HP Envy Dv6. It was having problems overheating so i opened it up to clean the fan and air intake. I put it all back together and now I have a black screen. I can hear the hard drive spin but the fan only comes on sometimes. If i blow in the intake when the fans not running it starts to spin. The caps lock led is flashing constanly at a rate of 1 second, no pause, just 1 second intervals. Did i kill the fan or is the flashing telling something else. Any help is appreciated. Thanks

my father left his computer turned off for a few days and now it refuses to start up. we currently have a black screen with the caps and num locks flashing once every 3 seconds. the wireless button has remained red (normally blue when system is operating) and the fan can be heard carrying on its normal duties. ive tried hard reseting and cleaning the ram chips to no success and applied a hairdryer to the fan to make sure the heat sink was functioning. google tells me it might be a BIOS issue or the GPU may have something wrong with it but i lack the technical knowledge to investigate this. any help would be appreciated

Got a HP Probook 450 G0 here, which is powering up with no screen display. No BIOS, no nothing. It isn't the backlight. You can hear fans spinning up, the Caps Lock key starts flashing, but nothing else happens. I've removed RTC/BIOS battery, nothing. Removed and swapped RAM, nothing. Plugged into TV with HDMI, nothing.  I'm starting to suspect it's something more complex - a motherboard problem, a BIOS problem, or a CPU problem. I seem to remember older HPs having Caps Lock blink codes for reporting issues, but I can't see any info about that for the ProBooks. Any ideas?

Hi,

how to disable Caps lock, num lock, scroll lock screen messages?

I have desktop pc with two keyboards usb and bluetooth. Also TOSHIBA Bluetooth Stack software, but in device manager: keyboard > hid keyboard device both using microsoft drivers. And I dont have any software installed for keyboards. Also bluetooth has separate system tray indications (it is also disabled) so its not that. I made some googling and found other fix it with Hkey_Local_Machine\Software\Widcomm\BTConfig\General KeyIndication set to 0, but I dont have it in registry. Acualy I dont have anywhere in registry KeyIndication. So any ideas how to disable it? Thanks

Answer:Caps lock, num lock, scroll lock screen messages

Hi,

You'll find that the messages are controlled by a piece of software that came pre-installed on your machine when you bought it. Try looking for a Hotkey managing app to see if the notifications can be disabled.

I have an x61t that when it locks for screen saver password and you have to CTRL ALT Delete the relog back on. the CAPS lock on the onscreen keyboard indicates on but it's not. 1. Log into the tablet.2. The screensaver would lock the tablet.3. Press Ctrl Alt Delete to get to the logon screen.4. The on screen keyboard would show the Caps Lock key as on but it wasn't. If they pressed the Caps Lock key it would then be on.5. The users don't press the Caps Lock key now, even though it is being displayed as on, and they can logon OK. I cannot recreate this problem on another X61tablet and this behaviour happens even when the notebook is in a docking station with an external keyboard.  anybody seen this error before?

I've been having this issue for sometime now. . . My laptop allows me to turn it on and once I do the screen remains blank while the caps lock is flashing once every 3-4 seconds and the f10 key has a orange led light on. After leaving it on for a minute or 3 hoping that the screen turns on, the computer then just turns off. My laptop has been taken to repair shop but still has the same issues.  I have also tried about almost everything i have read online on the forums with others who have the same issue.  The weird thing is i'll pay no attention to my computer for about a day or two after constantly trying to get it to work and it'll then suddenly turn on with a message saying that there is a thermal issue with the fan or something.?  I would appreciate if someone would help me fix this situation so that i can no longer deal with it in the future. Thanks!

Computer: HP Compaq 6735b Notebook PC Specs: Unavailable to check. Problem: An hour ago, I attempted to turn on the laptop and was met with a completely blank screen. At start up, the caps lock? and num/scroll? lock LEDs flash five times (it does not repeat). The issue came out of the blue. It was working this morning. All other lights are fine, including even the volume indicator lights. Of course, no sound is heard. From what I am gathering this is a motherboard  problem as per http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c01443366&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en&jumpid=reg_R1002_USEN . Could anyone confirm for me that this is so? Moreover, is there anything to be done short of replacing the mobo if it is a mobo problem? Related: Would I be able to remove the HD from this laptop, place it into another laptop, and have access to the files present on it? Or would this require formatting or installation in a HD case in order to transfer the files over?Note: This has nothing to do with my other active thread. Another computer entirely.

Answer:Laptop Blank Screen Flashing (5 times) Caps? Num/Scroll? Lock

You need to transfer first the documents from your hard drive as a safety procedure. You would need an enclosure adapter and another working computer to do this -> http://www.liutilities.com/how-to/install-laptop-hard-drive-to-desktop-computer/You could also follow the link you provided to diagnose the particular error codes on your startup problem.

Answer:Caps Lock and Num Lock Flashing.

I recently installed 2x8GB of RAM into my Elitebook 8530p that previously had 2X1GB.Click to expand...

The HP EliteBook 8530p Notebook PC supports a maximum of 8 GB of DDR2-800 RAM.
It has 2 SODIMM slots, so that means you can't install more than 4 GB in each slot.
4 GB X 2 = 8 GB

When I hit the power on button on my computer, it takes anywhere from five minutes to eight hours to start up. While starting up, and while running, the CAPS lock and NUM lock lights flash once about every 2.75 seconds.

I looked up the HP error codes, one flash is supposed to signify a CPU problem...but I can run Half-life 2, WoW, Runes of Magic, and 8 track Guitar Pro 5 files just fine. So I figure my CPU's (AMD Turion x2 dual core @ 2.0 Ghz) got nothing wrong with it.

I've spoken to HP support, they told me to reimage my computer to factory settings...I've done that, twice....flashed the BIOS...and tried running startup repair....any hints?

Answer:black screen and caps lock blinking

Hello, Thank you for posting in the HP Support Forum. I am afraid this issue cannot be resolved remotely and it is a bit difficult to understand and know in details what exactly you removed/replaced. Since it started to occur after this change obvious this is the cause. Please, review these artciles :>> http://h20564.www2.hp.com/hpsc/doc/public/display?docId=emr_na-c01732674>> http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c01732674and follow the appropriate instruction for your specific situation.  If they don't help, you can consult with HP Service center or bring the computer to HP authorized service center where the technicians will probably be able to help you solve the problem. If you cannot find a troubleshooting solution, contact HP Customer support for further assistance or to have the computer serviced. I put my computer to sleep last night and when I went to turn it on this morning it started to power but nothing happened.  The screen is black and the lights for caps and number lock are blinking.  They blink continuously with 4-seconds in between.  I've tried a hard restart, as well as removing the RAM and wireless card (per other posts for similar problems).  Does anyone have any idea what I should do next?  I'm a graduate student and hate to admit it but I can't be without a computer for very long :/

Well, I have no idea what caused this but the tablet buttons (even the on/off button) the lights for caps lock and scroll lock as well as the automatic screen orientation change when I flip it to be a tablet have stopped working. Also the screen does not turn off anymore when the lid is closed. Reinstalled pretty much all of the drivers, no effect.Any ideas? Is this thing already broken?

Answer:X41 tablet buttons + scroll lock and caps lock lights + screen orientation change stopped working!

well, SOMETHING is broken.. though it would seen unlikely it is hardware.. a question: did you load anything new just before this happened..?anything at all..scanner drivers or printer drivers or a new application..? OH!, welcome to the lenovo community..!

If you are using Windows 8, then it is important to note that the on-screen indicators for Num Lock and Caps Lock are not available in Windows 8. To know more about this, you can refer to the link below:http://acer.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/30035/~/no-num-lock-and-caps-lock-indicator If you are using Windows 7, you can check if following the steps below helps:1. Click on "Start".2. Type keyboard in the "Search" field.3. Double-click "Keyboard options".4. Go to "Key settings" tab and then, go to "Key settings" list.5. Locate and double-click "Caps Lock" and select the option "Display Caps Lock status on screen". Click "Finish".6. Follow Step 5 for Nums Lock as well. Hope this will resolve your issue.

Lenovo Y720 So, when I hit caps ock or num lock an on screen display tells me whether capslock or num ock has been pushed. While I appreciate it is helpful for some, in my case it become a hinderance. You need to remove "num lock" for single key print screen request, and if I have a short time frame, I am stuck without being able to screenshot until the num lock indicator goes away.  How do I turn off the on screen display.  Now, before you send me to the previously asked questions of similar nature, I have tried. There is no "display settings" in Control Panel. There is no "advanced display settings" on the settings panel. And there is no way to control it through NVIDIA or Intel graphics settings (that I can see).  Thanks kindly.

Good afternoon,

I just did a clean install of 7 to fix errors with my laptop, and it fixed one, but not the other main issues,
My caps lock, and number lock button on the keyboard don't have a light on it and the pop up that is supposed to pop up doesn't show up on screen.
I figured by doing a clean install it would all magically appear again... I was wrong, I have tweaked everything I could think of looking/trying to change setting from the keyboard in control panel, (including messing around with ease of use) and Gateways so called "support" area was of no help, as well as googling the issue has led me down a path of useless tips, I have also looked on this forum for help.

Any help in this area would be GREATLY appreciated!!

Hello! Since the most recent build of W-10 (9879), my caps lock, num lock, and scroll lock lights do not function on either computer on which I have W-10 installed (a desktop with a USB keyboard and a laptop with an integrated keyboard). The keys still work to correctly toggle the functionality, but the keyboard lights don't work. In case it matters, my keyboard's actual backlights and my mouse's internal light (not the laser, the internal LED) are working correctly, it's just the CL, NL, and SL indicators that don't function.

Anyone have any ideas for fixing this?

After normal use and simply closing my laptop, it will not reboot.  I have had this happen before and was able to reboot by restarting. Following various forum instructions, I've removed the battery and attempted recovery from discs several times.  I've connected the unit to my smart tv, but cannot see my computer screen on the tv monitor.   What's happening now: When I turn on the laptop, the caps/num lock LEDs blink once.  There's power, but the fan seems quieter than usual.  It has been a little loud and running a little warmer recently.  The light at the power cord is white, and the light on the touch pad is on/white.  The wifi light and sound light are both red. Any advice?

Hello everyone.  I'm attempting to help diagnose my sister-n-laws HP 15 laptop.  I've searched high and low for an answer but all I'm finding is people with different types of "3 beeps".  They either have 3 "short" beeps or 1 short with 2 long or something like that.  I can't find ANYTHING with 3 long beeps.  It does 3 long beeps twice and then nothing.  I can hear the hard drive spinning too. No HP or BIOS documentation ever mentions anything about 3 long beeps either.  Does anyone have any idea what is going on with this thing?

Hi, I have HP Pro X2 410 G1 and when pushing the ON/OFF Button,it vibrates as it would be,and instead of turning on the display and displaying the HP logo and so on,it keeps the display black with no led (like it is when the tablet is turned off) and starts blinking white light on CAPS LOCK button,it blinks 1 time, after 3-4 second once more time, after 3-4 second once more time and continues doing so until I turn the tablet off. I turn it off by holding the ON/OFF button for several seconds, and it turns off as usually does when everything is ok (a light is blinking 1 time on the lower middle of the screen ribs and the power goes off) .So I think it actually turns on,but the screen is not showing anything and the system realizes that something is wrong and gives me alert with that blinking on CAPS LOCK button ... I have removed the touchscreen and using the tablet with its HP Pavillion x2 dock station as a notebook. The screen is moving, because the touchscreen must have been fastened to it, but I have removed the touchscreen and only the screen is left.there are times that it turns on normally, but for about 70-80% situations it gives the problem above PLEASE HELP ME TO SOLVE THE PROBLEM

Model CQ61 319WM This is a friend's computer.  Yes, it's old.  But, it was working fine until it went into sleep mode last night.  Hasn't come up since. Searches took me to this HP support page.  Win+B and Power on does not show the BIOS restore screen.  It just shows the same black screen.  It mentions trying more than once.  I tried at least a half dozen times.  Removed the battery and unplugged the power for a few seconds prior to some of the tries. The BIOS download (sp48895.exe) does not provide the option to format a USB drive as bootable.  I searched around and created my own bootable thumb drive.  Then, copied the BIOS files onto it. Unfortunately, that method also uses the Win+B and power on to bring up the boot order screen.  All I get is black. There are a bunch of "black screen" threads on here.  I've read several of them.  But, I haven't found any others that appear to apply to this model. Suggestions appreciated. Drake Christensen

Hello everyone,I'm holding a Pavillion x360 convertible pc 13-u002ne.I was watching a movie yesterday as usual on my recently purchased laptop and woke up to the the fact that it's not wanting to start off anymore. The power button turns on but the Caps Lock emits a blinking in the same pattern 3 slow blinks then 5 fast ones, with a black screen.I checked the link communicated above for blink/beeps troubleshooting but it doesn't show anything regarding my pattern.I opened the laptop and removed the battery, the CMOS battery and the Ram, then put them all back again but nothing changed.During the startup process, I tried pressing on various buttons and combinaisons to reset my bios but nothing seemed to work since all throughout my screen is always black.Any support would be highly appreciated.

Hi there,

My partner Tracys HP DV6 laptop is refusing to boot. The machine appears to power up as normal, the power, volume and wifi lights above the keyboard light up as does the 'on' light at the front left corner and the fan can be heard running but the screen remains blank with no flickers of anything and no sign of even a cursor. The caps lock/num lock* lights repeatedly give two blinks in time with each other.

* I say num lock light. I think this is what it's normally referred to although num lock is not the nearest button. It's at the top right hand corner of the screen next to the 'End/page up' buttons.
After a bit of googling I have tried doing the hard reset (switch off, remove battery and power cable, leave for 30s then hold down power button for 1 min before rebooting). I also tried connecting an external monitor via the vga socket and to a TV set via the HDMI output. None of these approaches have yielded any results. My googling has also revealed the two blinks from caps lock/num lock are the code for a BIOS corruption fault.

I found instructions for restoring the BIOS here...

http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c02693833

I was going to follow the instructions there but wanted to check here first in case there was a more appropriate course of action I should take first.
Another thing is that there seems to be a lot of heat being blown out by the fan considering the machine appears not to be booting.

Hi, First, with reference to the Service Manual on the link below - remove and re-seat your memory module(s). If the above makes no difference try the following. Again, with reference to the Manual on the link below, remove one of your memory modules and then see if the notebook will boot.  If it doesn't, try the same module, but in the other slot.  If is still doesn't boot, try the other memory module in both slots, to see if any combination will allow the notebook to start normally. The procedure for removing these modules is detailed starting on Page 63 of your Maintenance & Service Guide. Regards, DP-K

My Compaq CQ62-209WM was working great until a couple of weks ago.  When I turned it on the screen stayed black, the caps lock light blinks once every 5 seconds, and the wifi light stays orange.  Read on this forum of others with similar problems.I tried a hard reset and it worked the first time, long enough for me to back up the important stuff on my hard drive, but did not work the second time (or any time I have tried it since then). One blink indicates CPU failure so I ordered a new CPU and thermal material, dismanteled the unit and replaced the CPU and thermal material this evening. Still have black screen and blinking lights - still one blink every 5 seconds. Tried hard reset, no change.Any suggestions? Not able to replace computer at this time - willing to try almost anything. Thanks in advance.

Answer:Compaq CQ62-209WM, black screen and caps lock blinking

Hi @micwtx ,  Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forums and Welcome. I have looked into your issue about your Compaq Presario CQ62-209WM Notebook and issues with the flashing lights and not starting correctly. Here is a link to computer does not start. It has the LED blinking codes and suggests that it could be your System Board. Have you tried to reseat the memory and HDD? (it is in the document) Please note remove any and all USB devices. Disconnect all non-essential devices, as these could cause some issues. Plug the power adapter directly into a functioning wall outlet. Do not plug it into a power strip, surge protector, or secondary power source as this could cause and issue.Hope this helps you. Thanks.

Just registered so I could also say thanks to the member who came up with the cost-free solution to this problem.  Put a towel around the laptop until it overheated enough to turn itself off. Waited for it to cool. Started right up w/ no issues.Woo hoo! My wife asked me how I fixed it, after my computer guy said it couldn't be done in a cost effective way.  I told her I used a bit of witchcraft. lol

Hello. I am trying to fix an HP G62-367DX Notebook PC.
Operating sys: Win 7, 64bit, AMD Turion(tm) 530II Dual-Core Processor, 4GB, 2.50GHz. I had this laptop since December of 2010 and on June of 2013 is when I used my notebook PC and was initially of no use. I have been working on my laptop on and off since. I am not afraid to open the sucker up and get this thing up and running.

The problem started out with what most ppl call it, the "blue screen of death". Like most ppl, I did ignore the blue screen and did a restart which brought me to the normal Windows screen and then it would start back up just fine. I found this in Device Manager's (Hidden Files):
Non-Plug and Play Drivers
-! ehdrv
-! epfwwfp
-! Security Processor Loader Driver
I am not sure if it has anything to do with what it was the blue screen situation, but I tried searching on the net on what it all meant and to see if I was able to fix it, but before I was able to do something about it, the blue screen kept popping up and it was getting worse.

The problem progressed to where on Windows startup it would just stop there, blue screen would pop up and of course I had to restart it and do an F8 key press for Safe Mode. I had to work on Safe Mode for a good couple of weeks before I can figure out the problem/s. I believe I had went into the system and found out it had something to do with some kind of error... *sigh* I did write it down, but that was like a month ago and I am unable to locate my ... Sometimes electrical components needs to have all power sources removed and reintroduced to work properly.  Try performing a hard reset first, if it doesn't work then try updating your BIOS.  If neither works...It's pretty much dead and not worth fixing.  To Perform A Hard Reset Shut down the computer by going to the Start menu and selecting shut down. (If you have no display, hold the power button down for  5 seconds)Disconnect the AC Adapter from the notebook.Remove the battery from the bottom of the notebook.  There will be a switch/button to eject the battery.Wait at least 1 minute with all power sources disconnected.Re-insert the battery and reconnect the AC Adapter and then attempt to power on the notebook.

For some time now, i have been experiencing that my Num Lock, Caps Lock and Scroll Lock all lights up (not blinking) all at the same time, I tried to google it but i can not find any solutions or explanations for it.

Does anyone know if it is bad? and what is causing this?

I am having a wired keyboard with nothing fancy just a standard issue Logitech keyboard.

Answer:Num Lock, Caps Lock and Scroll Lock all lights up (not blinking)

Can you toggle those functions off, one at a time? Sometimes restarting the computer will use the last state it was in, I'd fully shut down and pull the power cord from the computer and the keyboard cable then put them back and try again.

Answer:Caps lock flashing

Hello, Thank you for posting in the HP Support forum.  I am sorry for the issues you experience with your HP computer. Based on your description this should be hardware failure - 5 blinks is for the systemboard/motherboard. Please, review these 2 HP official articles about such issues you experience now. Follow the appropriate steps that fit your case to attempt to fix the issue:>> http://support.hp.com/bg-en/document/c03518165>> http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c03515402   If you did try everything in the articles but nothing helped, I am afraid you will need to bring your computer (or ship it) to service - HP Authorized service center. If the computer is still under warranty, you will need to notify HP support first. If you are not sure where such a center is located, please contact HP support for assistance in finding one. Here is more info: >> http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c00372730>> http://www8.hp.com/us/en/contact-hp/ww-phone-assist.html  Please, let me know how it goes.

Hey all. Got windows 7 on my g555, with truecrypt on the drive, if it matters.  Last night, closed down the cover of my laptop before i fell asleep, like always, today it doesn't respond at all when I opened it back up.  Forced it to shut down, and haven't seen anything but a black screen since. The power light comes on, the fan comes on, and that's about it.  Can't get to the bios, can't do ANYTHING.  Tried unplugging it for a while, pressing power 10 times, holding power down for a minute, ran the battery entirely dry THEN discharged the caps, ...I've read many solutions where its the built up static charge that's the problem, but not here.  I've tried all versions of the solution I could find, all very similar, but none worked.  I took out my RAM and put it back in, and same for the hard drive.  No dice. The only lights I get at all are the power light, and the battery charging light next to it.  Can't get the CAPS LOCK, num lock, any of that to do anything.  Cannot boot by CD/DVD as I cannot change the bios, and can't get any response from any keys or key combos that I can think of (including the one-touch restore). Any advice?  What can I try here to get this sucker going again?

Hello.

The caps lock light on my HP Pavilion G6-2356sa is flashing. The button still puts the letters in capitals, so it still works, just continually flashing. It's just stopped flashing actually.

Anyway, I've had a Google and all the results I've found say it has a black screen at the same time. Mine doesn't have a black screen, though it did a few months ago, made a thread here.

I'm not sure this is a good sign.

Thanks in advance for help.

Hi All

My sister in-laws Toshiba Laptop will not power up. I was in the process of repairing windows (Wouldn't boot) and noticed the power supply had a 'dodgy' wire. I then bought a replacement power lead, but when I power up now, only the caps and scroll lock leds flash, there is no life in the laptop and I have to press the power button to power off.

Any ideas?

Answer:Caps lock flashing on toshiba

My first guess is either that the new wire is not properly connected or it is not the same guage or type as the one you replaced (or the new wire is bad or there is some type of short or something else came loose when you did it). When you say "no life" you mean what exactly? Do you get the scrolling green bar screen? Can you get into BIOS or Safe Mode or does it not get even that far? What happens if you try to boot to a bootable DVD (assuming you have BIOS set to boot first to the DVD - otherwise that won't help unless you can get to BIOS to make that change)? I assume you know the laptop is on because you see the power light on - but do you also see any activity on the hard drive light or is it dark (if you have such lights on your laptop)? Are there any noises - sounds of hard drive activity or beeps or anything else?

It sounds to me like a hardware problem - quite possibly the power supply but perhaps something else. Answers to the above questions may help (and if it is the wrong wire and you replace it with the right one or it isn't connected right or you fix something else that came loose, may solve the problem), but I suspect the answer is going to be suggesting you take it into a reputable computer repair shop (or send it back to the manufacturer) for service.

I hope this helps.

Good luck!

As seen in the title I'm having quite a problem. The screen doesn't come on at all. Sometimes the fan starts up sometimes it doesn't. I've tried everything I can think of from re-seating RAM and Hard Drive, to taking out the battery and power and holding the power button for 10-30 seconds. I also tried re-seating the keyboard and mouse cables as well as the CMOS batter to no avail. Anyone have any suggestions as to what the problem could be?

Answer:HP TX2-1020us Caps/Num Lock Flashing

The flashing is a diagnostics code. I'm reading around the net and finding that it could be a number of things, from a bad CPU to bad RAM. Unfortunately, I'm not finding a list of the different codes to help us.

In your reseating of the RAM, did you happen to try them just one at a time to make sure you don't have a bad stick? This is the first thing I would do as it is the easiest thing to try.

after requesting shutdown the screen went black, the light for the speaker being muted did not go off and the caps lock light is flashing 5 times slow and then 3 times fast, and keeps repeating this. If it happened a third time I was going to contact HP but the problem went away for 2 months and now it is back

I have a Latitude D600 that just recently stopped powering on with any consistency.  Most of the time the CAPS LOCK light flashes 9 times and the system powers off.  If I am lucky enough to see the system power up, it locks up within a minute and then it's back to the CAPS LOCK light again.  I have tried removing, moving, reseating and swapping RAM to no avail.  I have also unplugged the CMOS battery without success.  I have seen a lot of posts on this same problem on this site, but it seems like there are as many "fixes" as there are posts.  Is there an error code listing somewhere I could look at to see exactly what this means?  I don't mind replacing parts, as long as I'm not just guessing. Thanks

Answer:Latitude D600 flashing caps lock

Reseat the RAM, battery, drives and any cards in the system. Verify that the LED on the AC adapter is ON before you plug in the notebook end. If it is not, the adapter is faulty; replace it. If it is on and the problem persists, the flashing caps lock indicates a mainboard failure. While the board can be replaced, it is a very expensive part (on the order of $400 for the board).

Hello, I bought my pavilion 15 around 1 and a half years back. Yesterday, when I tried to turn on my laptop, the led in the caps lock button flashed 3 times along with a brief delay and then another 3 times. I researched into the problem and I found out the problem was with my RAM. The solution given by HP was to reseat the RAM, which I tried but didn't work. I tried other methods given by users and still to no avail. I finally got myself to save up and buy myself a new 8gb ram which was compatible with my PC. It was very frustrating to see even with the new ram the same problem showed up. I exhausted all the solutions given by other users so I decided to ask myself. Thank you.

Hey there

Basically it seems i have a BIOS problem (whatever that means) because my laptop won't start and the caps and num lock key lights are flashing twice each time round.

It seems i need to flash the bios but how exactly do i do that? i have gone onto HP's site and found what seems to be the right bios here: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/...&dlc=en&lc=en&os=4062&product=4034132&sw_lang=

but after downloading i see now way of extacting any files. for this i am using my mums acer laptop by the way. what i get is this winflash programm which asks for ID's to change what seems my current BIOS (e.g. for the acer laptop which obiously don't want to do). All i want is the file(s) to put on a memory stick and put it into my HP, hold windows+B and hopefully it works?

What do i do?

Thanks for your help

So my hp pavilion that is not even 2 years old yet has bit the dust, back in July I was using my laptop perfectly fine one night and the next morning the computer would not turn on and the caps lock button has been flashing continuously; it does NOT stop. I have talked to tech support but because I'm out of warranty they don't want to talk to me unless I pay 70 bucks. Anyway yesterday I got annoyed and tried turning it on for the first time in 3 months. It turned on and took a few minutes but worked just fine- now it is again doing the caps lock thing again. I do hard resets continuously and it takes an hour to turn on, I have been told to just buy a new laptop. What is the issue? When it turns on it works just fine

Hi,

I recently upgraded the ram in my Vostro 1500 from 2 512MB sticks to 2 1GB sticks. The installation was fine and my computer ran much faster for the next two days. However, now the computer refuses to boot. I press power, the caps lock key will flash for about 30 seconds and then power off. Nothing else turns on, there's no error message or anything. I assume this is some problem with the RAM but I have tried resetting it and switching it around but to no avail. I'm away from home at the moment so I can't put the old sticks back in to see if that will fix it. Is there anything else I can try to fix this? Thanks in advance for any advice you can provide.

Answer:Dell Vostro 1500 Flashing Caps Lock, no boot-up

Hello there.

The first thing you would need to do is swap the new sticks with the old sticks to see if the computer boots up. If it does, then your RAM is either faulty, some settings need to be tweaked or there could possibly be incompatibilities. Post back when you get the chance to test the old memory.

Hi I'm not an expert so please bear with me. I've got a Mutimedis PC with Windows Vista (not professional), connected via wireless link to a home network, one other (Sony Vaio) connected to the network, hard wired. The PC seems infected, since yesterday afternoon the Start Menu appears randomly and flickers or flashes, as does the Caps lock light. I cannot enter anything into the browser windows as the PC keeps bringing up the shortcuts for that key, printing menu if I hit "P", etcetera. When I reboot the PC it starts up in "F" mode, although I can turn that light off by pressing the key again, I cannot stop the start menu coming up every few seconds nor the Caps lock to stop randomly triggering every few seconds and as soon as I try to type anything. I had McAfee running at the time I got infected, several McAfee "scans" have turned up nothing. I am using the laptop to type as the PC is totally unusable although it boots up and shuts down ok for now, and I can open up the internet browser. Hi All, I've just updated the firmware on my 2014 Envy (device code E7A75EA) to 'F.68 Rev.A' from HP Support and now it will not boot!  Instead all I get is a blank screen and the caps-lock flashing twice (which I'm told means corrupt BIOS!) I followed the instructions carefully and no error message appeared in Windows, but when the laptop restarted it failed to load Windows and just gets stuck on this blank screen.  I've tried removing power cord/battery, and then holding down the power button for 1 minute but this hasn't helped. Can I boot to USB/CD and flash back the old firmware (v43 I think)? Please help!

I was on my Y560 Model 0646 checking my email and the computer shut off on me.  I went to turn it back on and it does not turn on.  The caps lock and number lock light up.  Blue tooth, Battery, and Video status all light up above keyboard in status area.  None of the fans are going, and it does not sound like anything is running.  I tried removing the power and battery and pressing power button a few times.  Also tried to remove power and battery and holding down power and nothing.  It's almost like it freezes.  I can push the mute button and it lights up, but then cannot turn it off.  Please help.  Laptop just went out of warranty last month.

Answer:Y560 will not turn on. Caps Lock and Number lock light up but not fans or boot

I'm guessing it is because of the motherboard. Since it is out of warranty can a Y560 motherboard be purchased anywhere? Any ideas? Please help.

My Toshiba satellite c650d seems to have power...the on button is green. The screen is black, the numbers and caps lock lights are on and wont go off. The disk drive makes the usual booting up noise but that is all she does. Ive unplugged and removed the battery and that did nothing. I cant even turn it off with the on/off button to remove that battery and then turn it on again. I removed and reinserted the memory (both) and I can't take the hard drive out, its held in by a screw. Is my "friend" dead?

If, as it sounds, it is booting up but not ever displaying anything on the screen, check the cable between the motherboard and the screen. It might just be one of the connectors (at either end) has worked loose. With the computer well booted up, move the screen gently down to nearly closed. If you ever see anything on the screen then it could be the cable is faulty where it hinges.Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks

Looking for a Free Num Lock and Caps Lock indicator software? Download 7Caps.
7Caps is a very small application that aims to notify you in real time whether the status of the Num Lock or Caps Lock keys changes
Download it from its home page. TrayStatus also lets you enable status indicator for Keyboard keys.

I have a Ideapad Y560P that shut down suddenly and when we tried to turn it back on, the Caps Lock and Num Lock (on F8 key) lights go on but the computer does not start. I saw a similar thread from 2010 but there was no resolution. I assume that the two lights on at the same time at attempted start indicate some kind of "fault" condition in the computer. I have not been able to get the bios to start so that I could run diagnostics. I pulled the battery and held down power for 30 seconds, pressed start twice, put the battery back in but still won't start. I pulled memory out, trying to get a POST "beep" error but that didn't occur. I put memory back in one dimm at a time. I pulled the Hard Drive out and put it in an external enclosure and was able to extract the information to another laptop so I'm pretty sure I didn't have a hardware Hard Drive failure. Other than the one reference in this forum I haven't seen any information about this kind of, what I assume is a, hardware failure. I assume that Lenovo has some kind of guide that tells them what the lights mean. The computer was about six months out of warrenty when it failed. I called Lenovo to attempt to extend the warranty but they won't once it is out of warranty. Looking for some idea of what failed, whether it is worth getting one of Lenovo's listed companies that repair laptops to look at it and fix the problem.

Hi Guys. I'm new to this so, sorry if i post it wrong?

Well, Last night, my laptop totally froze. No mouse movement. Screen froze. Everything. The only way to get round this was to disconnect any power to the laptop and remove the battery. That solved my 1st Problem. However, once i tried to reboot the system, All i got was a black screen with flashing Caps lock light OR in some cases it begins to start up however, at the ''Starting Windows screen'' It goes black and stays black.

Erm, i really love my laptop so if anyone has any suggestions to fix this.. or if i've posted it in the wrong section i apologize i just need a fix :(

Not a techie.  Can't get straight answer ANYWHERE.  New laptops tend to NOT have indicators on the keys.  Hoping Windows 10 has indicators that can be turned on and PROBABLY would show up in the tray at the bottom right of the screen.
I have heard of sites where such things can be downloaded but again NOT a techie, so I hesitate to go outside of Windows/Microsoft for downloads.  I do not know what download sites are safe or spoofs.

Please plain English ... i.e. go to settings etc.  Or just give me a Microsoft approved site for download.
