Laptop auto-shutdown and displaying screwy/wrong fonts even during start up

Question: Laptop auto-shutdown and displaying screwy/wrong fonts even during start up

Hi all,

I have got a Dell Vostro 1400 laptop that has been giving me a headache... It is more than 3 years old and came with Windows XP pre-installed. I ran Win7 (legitimate copy) on it for awhile (about 4 months) without any problems, then suddenly it would die while in Win7. Things like system shutting down by itself and freezing when displaying videos were common. Then it started showing “Memory Parity” errors. I tried swapping RAM modules but to no avail.

So I re-installed Windows XP with SP3. Installation was smooth and driver installation was in order. It ran ok for about a week before auto-shutting down again. Now it even screws up the screen during BIOS loading (when the Dell logo and progress bar shows) and when loading Windows (please see attached photo for crazy fonts/capitalisation during Windows Restore screen).

I am now running Ubuntu from it without installation (i.e. booting and running from the CD) and am encountering no problems whatsoever.

The Dell BIOS diagnostics would run while I was running Win7 and report no errors, so I’m trying to assume that there’re no hardware errors. Perhaps the photo might be telling to you experts out there.

Any help would be much appreciated! Thanks in advance!

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Laptop auto-shutdown and displaying screwy/wrong fonts even during start up

Try to boot from the window 7 Disc and run the Memory Test Program from there.... If it pass.... I think may be teh build in Video card Issue.... I see similar error in Desktop... The video chip have problem ... it work ok without load the driver ... but whenever you load the driver .. it cause problem...

Did this problem happen in safe mode?

Hi,

On my laptop, on certain websites, the font is completely different to how I view it on every other computer/laptop. I cannot figure out what could possibly be causing this and was hoping someone here has a solution.

I have included screen shots showing the difference. I know it may sound really ocd, but it's generally worse on my eyes I find. All the main titles on websites (more than just facebook) are replaced by a horrible bold font and the general text on a lot of sites seems more narrow.

This happens on all browsers and only browsers, all other system fonts are correct.

Things I have tried so far but did not fix the problem
- connected laptop to another monitor and applied the max resolution of 1080p (my laptop screen is 1366x768, gpu supports 1080 tho)
- Gone into my internet options from the control panel and tried changing the font (and crossed checked it with other computers)
-Checked chrome's font settings and cross checked with other computers

The problem as been present ever since I got the laptop, its just really started to bug me recently.

Any help is appreciated, thanks

How would i go about fixing this for chrome and ie thought?

I'm having a weird issue with how a certain website is displaying in my browser. The font is all messed up, and I have no idea if it's an issue with my browser (Firefox), or my OS (Windows 7 32bit).

The site is buzzfeed. It displays fine in my other browsers, but in Firefox, one of the fonts is constantly displaying incorrectly - it looks like the wrong font is being used (it's using rockfont for some reason - which is on my system as a requirement for a pinball game I play).

Here's how it looks usually in Firefox:

And here's how it looked after I uninstalled the rockfont font:

And then just a few minutes later, it looked like this (while rockfont was still uninstalled):

Any idea what's going on with my fonts, and why it only happens on this one site, and only in Firefox? I'm using the latest version of Firefox, but this has been happening for months. After I re-installed rockfont, the page then went back to using that as a font, as in the top image.

I can't tell if my issue is hardware related, software related, or both. I have a Gateway CX2610 tablet notebook. I'm having a bunch of problems and wonder if they are all related:

Sometimes when I boot up my laptop the BIOS doesn't show up. The laptop is powered on but no BIOS shows up. So I power down and try again. Sometimes it gets past BIOS and stalls. But I'm getting no beeps or sounds.

When the laptop gets past BIOS sometimes XP won't load. Sometimes the XP logo won't show up, sometimes the XP logo will show up but it freezes, and sometimes it boots normally (although slowly).

Also, when I am able to boot into XP it won't recognize USB devices like mice, external HDD, and USB sticks. Also, the touchpad pointer sometimes freezes and I have to push down both buttons to get it to move.

This sounds like I have fifty different problems but up until a week ago the system was running pretty smoothly. I've tried running Ultimate Boot Cd to find out if my drive is malfunctioning but there are no instructions on how to use the Fujitsu diagnostic tool. It's a command line tool. Do you think my problem is with memory, BIOS needing to be updated, hard drive on its last legs, or with XP? I'm at a loss.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

On the weekend, I downloaded and installed JAWS Demo version to my PC. JAWS is a popular screen reader program. I am a web design teacher and we are currently learning accessibility. After the install of JAWS, my fonts went all weird in my Office 2007 and also in IE (Firefox is okay). Here is a screenshot of what happened: http://www.bluetrue.com.au/textprob/. The fonts are kinda faded and purple, and somewhat rainbow.

I uninstalled JAWS, did not fix the prob. My PC won't let me do a system restore. I can only think to do a reformat, but am reluctant as this will take me about 9 hrs to reload everything! The JAWS people (Freedom Scientific) have not answered my email to support.

I appreciate any advice!

Answer:Fonts screwy after downloading JAWS

Try reinstalling the PostScript printer driver. Here is a link that will walk you through it:

If you don't need that, you can get the driver from Adobe at:

I don't know how/why this happened: my pc was fine when I put it to bed last night. This a.m., I log-on and the fonts have gone *kablooie*!

I ran Ad-Aware & Spybot = nothing.
Did a restore: didn't help.

I'm running WinXP-home.

Could Java be corrupt? Just decided it wanted to go on strike?

Answer:laptop auto shutdown

define 'random'......I'd also download SIW from http://www.gtopala.com/siw-download.php (free link is on the bottom of the page) and install that. That will show some temps.

Also, start > run > eventvwr.msc > enter > that will open your event log. Right click and empty both the application and system folders (they show up like explorer panes) and the next time it crashes, let us know. We'll tell you how to get the data off.

Finally, is it blue screening when it crashes, or just powering off?

hi guys, first post here and here's the problem.

I got a laptop which is basically two months old. And yesterday while I was having a meeting, the laptop shut itself down automatically after about 15 minutes. Then I head to library and switch it on, it works perfectly fine for about an hour until it shuts down again. Both cases happened under air-conditioned environment.

I sent it to the computer shop to have it checked and they told me that they switched it on for the whole day without experiencing any auto shut down.

And today, I brought it back and was using it for about two hours then the screen flickered one time.

GPU temperature was about 35 degree celcius. Then it raised up to 55-65 in about three hours.

May I know what's the problem I'm experiencing here?

Answer:Laptop auto shutdown

It sounds like the video card either has a defect or has a problem with cooling. If you look through the system logs it may give a hint if that is what causes all the shutdowns.

If you download NirLauncher it has several log viewers including event logs. Easiest way to find stuff is click on All Utilities and do a Control f search for "crash."

It is free and handy to have in any case.

Hi.
I have Dell Vostro 3400 that will auto shutdown (only on battery though) after unplugged from AC. Well, not exactly after unplugged. If I left it idle and did not touch anything after unplugged, it will last about 5-6 minutes, but if I directly open any software after unplugged, it will shutdown completely.
At first I thought it was battery problem, but when I restart, the battery percentage did not show any symptom of bad battery such as drastic dropped in percentage.
Restart in safe mode but the problem still happen.
Found nothing in BIOS, and Power Plan looks normal. I don't think it's overheat problem as well.
The motherboard had been replaced once. Could it be the motherboard??

Answer:Laptop auto shutdown

If the issue NEVER happens when the battery is removed, and the laptop is only using the AC adapter, then the motherboard is OK. The fault leads to the battery.

Run powercfg /lastwake in the RUN window and it should tell you what is causing the reboot. It's mostly likely a driver issue, so I would make sure everything is up to date.

Welcome to the Forums!

Is this a BSOD (blue screen of death issue)? If so this will be moved and you can follow this link Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) Posting Instructions in order to get the info needed to help.

Generally, this sounds like a driver issue from the searches of previous threads, possible bluetooth drivers, but again more info will be needed to be sure

I am connecting to a remote desktop that I have been connecting to for months now but suddenly today the taskbar and start menu from the remote computer disappeared and I can only see my laptop's menu and taskbar. This means I can't get into the Computer or folders of the remote desktop as there is not a shortcut on the desktop. It is also generally annoying.

Any idea as to why this had suddenly happened?

i have found that you temporarily get them back using alt+home

the real question is how to switch the remote session from windowed to full screen? that's accomplished with ctl+alt+break

google 'win7 rdc keyboard shortcuts' and you'll find a bunch of goodies..

Hey all,

So I am writing on behalf of my mother.  Her laptop (HP Pavillion dv4 circa 2009, running on Windows Vista) won't start up properly.  Upon pressing the power button, the screen goes immediately to white.  No mouse, no HP or Window welcome screen, nothing.  I've tried turning it off and back on (multiple times), Ctrl+Alt+Del, and pressing the F8, F10, and F11 buttons (the ones I read were most likely to take me to the safe start/reboot mode) upon start up, but to no avail.  This happened for the first time today, she came home from work and started her computer and it did this.  She thinks the last she used it for was Facebook and online banking, the night before.  I don't know what else to do as thoe are the only key combinations I could find, and her screen will not display anything but pure white.

Can anyone help me?  I will try to get more information if you need it, but as I can't get the computer to start, it may be somewhat limited.

Thank you so much in advance!

Answer:Laptop displaying white screen immediately upon turning on, won't start up.

There seem to be a large number of products using the tag "Pavilion DV-4".  More exact data for the model number might help.

I have had this dell pc for a year. I had a ton of opentype fonts installed on here as I am a graphic designer. All of a sudden I notice none of my OTF files are in my photoshop list..I checked the windows/fonts folder and not there either. I try installing new OTF files and it says "not a valid font file"

Here is the kicker..I converted my OTF files to Truetype and when I install them windows says its already installed, but you look at the list and nothing there. I have tried everything, read all the forums..here is what I have done

I am logged on as admin. I removed my kids account so there is only one account (admin account)
I updated my graphics card (read that can be an issue)
I have changed the UAC to never notify
When I click on the font properties there is NO box that says unblock (read that on this site)
I sent the file to a friend, they installed fine, so its not a corrupt file.

I just don't understand how they were installed and working fine and now they are not and I cant even add new OTF files.

Anyone have another suggestion?

This problem just started today on my PC and is driving me crazy. Any assistance is appreciated. Today while surfing the web, many (not all) web sites are displayed with larger text than is normally shown. It is not every site I visit, as many still appear normal. Sometimes it also affects emails that I view using MISE.

I am using IE 6.0 and my OS is XP Home SP1. I have checked the accessibility settings and they are normal. I have cleared out my cache and cookies. I have uninstalled IE and tried reinstalling. Nothing has worked. Remember, this only started today -- prior to today everything was fine.

I have viewed the source of the web pages that appear incorrectly, and they all seem to be using CSS (cascading style sheets). Could a file on my PC that processes these CSS instructions have become corrupted thus causing these font errors? I don't know anything about CSS so I am just throwing darts here.

Thanks in advance to all that attempt to assist me with this problem.

Alan

Here's the problem I'm having:

Even though the Meiryo & Meiryo UI (Japanese) fonts are enabled, they still shows up as little squares in word documents(notepad, etc.) and in song titles(iTunes, Winamp, etc.). However, I can view and type Japanese just fine in web browsers(Chrome, IE, etc.)

Here's the weird part, when I open up the fonts window and click "hide" for both Meiryo and Meiryo UI and then click "show" to enable them, once I restart the computer, I can type and view Japanese just fine...for that session. Once I restart the computer again, the problem returns(they're still enabled), and I have to repeat the process.

Thanks in advance :D

Ran into a bit of a weird issue. A few days ago, a co-worker had a problem with a couple of fonts not appearing. This was originally discovered in AutoCAD, so we thought as a program issue. Today, we discovered it also applies to Microsoft Word. The font is in the list, but boxes appear in place of the letters. It must be a Windows issue.

The fonts are installed, but do not show up in the Windows\fonts folder nor in the fonts in the control panel. We can install those fonts and it asks to replace them. So they are there. I have been looking all over the place for a solution and haven't found anything. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Some fonts on webpages aren't displaying properly. Either they become jumbled up symbols like in the Strava screenshot attached (when I copy and paste these symbols, they show up as the correct text), or look different like the Tumblr screenshot (extra thin).I've tried resetting Chrome settings (particularly, font/encoding options) by deleting my entire user profile folder, uninstalling/reinstalling Chrome, and trying the beta channel. Everything displays properly on other applications and the same websites are fine in Internet Explorer.

Answer:Chrome: Some fonts not displaying properly

Is this desktop chrome or the start screen chrome?

When I opened google in IE,it shows a blank screen with cursor blinking. When I type something, the cursor moves as I am typing but with no text. Similarly for other pages, some pictures will display but with no text. Everything works fine with google chrome. Please help me to resolve this issue.

Answer:IE 9 blank only with cursor and no fonts displaying

Welcome to Seven Forums Morice. Try opening Google in IE in Safe mode with networking and see if the behavior still exists

Safe Mode

If it works correctly in safe mode, something is conflicting with IE. If so, try Internet Explorer without add ons

Start> In search box type Internet Explorer (No Add-ons)> Enter

See if it works fine there. If so, one of your add ons is interfering. You will need to see which add on is causing this

Internet Explorer - Enable or Disable Toolbars and Extensions Add-ons

If it works in safe mode with networking, but not with Internet Explorer (No Add-ons), try a clean start to see what is interfering

I'm feeling very foolish--but,When I install one Greek font (Galilee, not the nicest) it works fine--but when I install any other Greek font, like Gentium (the one I really want) it displays in English!I must be doing something very dumb here, but I sure can't figure out what.Any Greek help out there?

Answer:Greek fonts displaying in English!

Phrixos. Not sure what you mean here, but I regulary switch between English Keyboard and Greek. It is done via Control Panel>Region and Language>Keyboard> Change Keyboard>Scroll down to Greek> drop down menu> select (a choice of font). Apply you should now Have the language bar in task bar and select language required. Hope this is what you want.McD

Hi - have done something really stupid and taken all of the fonts out of the font folder cos there were too many. I thought Windows would automatically reinstall all of the ones I needed, but needless to say, it didn't. I have looked online for lists of essential fonts for XP and have reinstalled all of those, including all of the ones with a red A icon and all the ones with MS in front of the name.

Unfortunately I still have a small problem with my printer driver preferences window, which appears to be using a font that is too large and consequently is only displaying the top left quarter of the window. I can't drag the window out to display the rest of the page. The large font is also displaying in some of the information windows with other programs, but not all windows, and the printer pref. is the only one which does not display all of the information.

I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the printer driver (the latest one available online) but to no avail. Do you have any ideas? I have tried the Microsoft Knowledge Base, but I dont know how to put the problem concisely into the search box.

Thanks - Caryn

Answer:Fonts not displaying properly (sort of)

Hi Caryn. Welcome to TSG.
Try doing a system restore to a point before you deleted the fonts.
Speaking of which, if you still need any, send me an E-mail by clicking my User name and I'll send you copies of what you need.

When using MS Paint, only the fonts that start with "@" to the font "Kelt" are available for use. I have many more fonts installed than that. When I "hide" one of the fonts that are available, the next one alphabetically become available. What setting do I have to change to make all my fonts usable.

Edited to Add: I checked and the same problem exists in Wordpad also.

Is there ANY solution?

Answer:MS Paint only displaying a limited number of fonts

Doesn't anybody have a solution? Or even a clue? I have 1600 fonts at my disposal yet am only able to use about 100 in MSPaint and MSWord. Is this a deliberate bug by Microsoft or what?

I've installed the pacts, and on the first day, all the chinese characters were correct, but now they're all squares. Even when I go to the regions and languages option in control panel, it's squares (see attachment). What gives? This is Windows 7, 64 bit.

Thanks in advance!!

Answer:Windows 7 isn't displaying foreign fonts correctly

Please go to Administrative tab of that window, you posted screenshot of, and click Change system locale button in the Language for non-Unicode programs section, select Chinese there.

L.S.,

For some reason, my screen font/text is not displaying as it should all of a sudden. Although it partly does!?!

In this case, pictures say more than a 1000 words...

See example 1: the files section text is displayed readable, but in the coding window the text is a mess. I know it is an old version of Dreamweaver, but it still work fine for me ;)

See example 2 (Firefox 36.0.1) and example 3 (Safari).

Do you perhaps have a clue why this happens? My search was not succesful :(

Thanks for your time!

Regards, KoosHopeloos

PS I've added a speccy summary for reference.

Answer:[SOLVED] Screen fonts not displaying correctly

Screenshots #2 + #3 look fine to me which leads me to believe that the issue lies with Dreamweaver.

Hello, Forum

I'm not an Office user/abuser, i only use Word (for my College paperworks), PowerPoint (for my College presentations) and Excel (for Personal use in my job).

A few days ago i had to do a Tryptic (i don't know if that's the correct word) but i use MS Publisher 2010 (it has been a while since the last time i used it and it was fine)

But then, this (Screenshot)

I've tried all the language options in publisher and it only makes it worse any ideas, guys?

Answer:Publisher 2010 isn't displaying fonts properly

I am not at all sure why the languages are as they are in your illustration, but I have done a snip on my Publisher 2010 settings.

There is an area (outlined in red) which you need to expand by touching the small triangle on the left. I wonder if that has any relevance?

Answer:auto reboot, auto shutdown, auto hibernate

You need to check Control Panel, Power Options. (screenshot)

Note the tabs. In this dialog you set your options and they are set for the Power Scheme shown. In Laptops, there are usually 2 schemes listed, one for AC powered and a separate for Battery powered.

Desktop OR AC powered Laptop, the only thing you MAY want to turn off is your Monitor.

Hi all, hoping for some help please...

Windows 7 64bit Enterprise with latest version of Firefox:

My fonts on various websites aren't displaying correctly in Firefox on my new work laptop (new build so I'm adding my apps from scratch). I've used M&S money as an example - it happens on other websites as well though.

Here's how my new laptop is displaying the links on the main page:

...and here's how they should be displayed (screenshot taken from old laptop)

The culprit font appears to be Arial Black - it's displaying that instead of what looks like just Arial but bold.

I've Googled it, loads of suggestions like delete your profile, re-install Firefox, try resetting your fonts etc; tried all of them to no avail, but I do think it's a Firefox issue as the links display ok in Chrome & IE.

Something I tried which I can't unerstand is that I installed FF Version 3 (found an old installer file) and that displayed the links exactly how they should be, so it appears to be the later versions?

Any help appreciated, it's driving me mad

Answer:Firefox - fonts not displaying correctly - screenshots included

Try this maybe it will fix the issues.

Firefox button > Options > Advance > General
and uncheck Use hardware acceleration when available or the other way around

or check this configuration in your firefox about:config

Hi,
New to Windows 10 and was fooling around with fonts (no ``save button`? - that`s supposed to be a question mark, not a French accent, maybe part of problem) - now all text (in programs and in browser?) looks like a printer running out of ink. Have played with ClearText type, fonts, display ?tc. etc. When I try to change size in display settings, it`s stuck on 100% (does not slide up or down). Perhaps I need a new monitor? Any help greatly appreciated. P.S. Am in Canada, trying to use the US English keyboard - if I change my location to US and use US
keyboard, would that work? I haven`t got Cortana working yet either because of problems with location and language.
Thnx

Twitter not displaying correctly, fonts are all garbled like sticks. I have tried in firefox, IE9 and Chrome. It is unreadable in all browsers and I cannot find a fix anywhere.

For Character Encoding I have all browsers set to Unicode (UTF-8) as do not recall ever changing them to anything else or seeing this problem before. All other sites show correctly. So I really am stumped. If you need my twitter page or could go see if it looks normal on your computer the address is Robbo (@aussiecriminals) on Twitter

So I figured this is the place to be as it may be a rendering issue within Windows7 or my computer. Here is a screen of what I am seeing guys. Thanks for any help in advance...Cheers

When I turn my PC on all I get is a bunch of lines and little boxes in purply, blue and red colours.  I try going into the bios but it wont let me as I doubt it could display the page. When I press the F8 button a bunch of times it does make that beeping sound for error. All the fans are working.  I can even hear that start up sound going after about 10 seconds that shows that stuff is being processed or something or other.I have a feeling it might be the Graphics card or maybe motherboard.  ITs a Geforce 6600.  The mobo is a Gigabyte K8NF-9 nForce4-4X chipset MotherboardBut I cant get past the screwy display.Recently I did have a virus of sorts and some adware.  Majority of it I think was removed when I get a virus/adware protection program on.  Whether or not if all virus' were gone Im not totally sure. This screen did happen in the past.  One example I think is playing Civ4 and when I exited the program the lines and stuff come up (freezing) and I restart.  Then everything would be fine. But now it pops up immediately after starting the PC.SO yeh.. IS there anything I can do? before handing it to someone for some rip off price to get fixed.  I was though planning on getting a new Graphics card in around 3/4 months.  Should I just fastrack that to now?The Ironic thing is my PC is only a about 16 months old while the PC im typing from is about 4 I think

Answer:Screwy moniter display..wont start too.

The reason I am posting this is the virus forum is this:http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/ind...p;#entry1885639( It has the most most information, I'm not sure if I should copy/paste it onto here though.)The problems on my computer are steadily increasing. The "errors" are now up to 18. Firefox also will not save, such as when I click on pictures and "save as," also the 'Insert Master Password' box is constantly reappearing, it also says that my connection is being reset. The Blue Screen of Death usually says IRQL nor less or equal, or page fault in Nonpaged area, but prior to the firefox problem, it said something about a connection trying to be accessed, and that it reset. Also, after the last BSOD, my computer cannot seem use Windows Installer. I tried to install a new iTunes because it wouldn't connect with my iPod, and some newly installed programs don't want to work. I wasn't able to install the new iTunes. I will try to get some screenshots of what it says.I also get all of these stupid error boxes, usually if I try to use something that uses Microsoft Word. Microsoft Word takes me a few tries to open, and I always have to 'Right-Click, Open' to make it start.Because I can't seem to upload a picture( tinypic won't let me browse for a picture), I'll just quote what the box says:"An error occurred and this feature is no longer functioning properly. I have a 4-month-old T560. It worked fine until I went on a extended vacation and it would not turn on after 1.5 months off. I tried a different transformer; draining residual power with the 30-sec power button press; all to no avail. I opened the back cover and unplugged the secondary battery, drained the power, plugged everything back and the computer started. I turned it off to put the cover back and it would not turn on again. This led to a very thorough troubleshooting with the back cover open. I tried all possible combinations, as follows: Power on with AC only; power on with each battery, one a time, and no AC; power on with AC + 1 battery; power on with AC + both batteries. All these were repeated at least twice and every single time the laptop started just fine. Then I closed the lid (with the laptop off) and opened it again: the laptop would not start. I removed the batteries again, drain the power, connected AC only and it started. Off and on again, no problem. Closed the lid (with the laptop off) and opened it.... would not turn on. Does anyone have any idea why this is happening?

Hello, I'm using Windows 7
Whenever I insert a USB device into my computer, it does not automatically display in My Computer.
Instead I'm having to use Tuneup driver utilities to display existing drives which is quite a lengthy procedure and it also displays drives which do not actually exist. x.x

So I'm guessing the drives are detected but are not being displayed automatically, is it possible to fix this?

Drives that are displayed and do exist:
HDD (C: ) & Recovery (D: ) (Partition of C)
DVD Drive (E: ) & DVD RW Drive (F: )

Drives that are displayed but I don't think exist:
Removable Disk (G,H,I,J) (In Devices & Printers these appear as USB2.0-CRW)
BD-ROM Drive (O: ) (Could be my card reader?)

Drive that does not display when device is inserted:
Removable Disk (K: ) (In Devices & Printers it appears as USB DISK)
Though this includes any other USB device I insert too

Answer:Drives not auto displaying?

Removable Disk (G,H,I,J)
Probably the card reader.

BD-ROM Drive (O: )
Do you have virtual drive software installed?

If the drive you are using is empty, windows 7
will hide it from the computer window by default.
Start/control panel/folder options.
Click the view tab.
Uncheck hide empty drives in the computer folder.
Click apply/ok.

Hello guys!
I believe that you will be well aware of the problem that occurs in laptop that it doesn't starts if shutdown or sleep then you would have to remove the battery and press the power button for 10-20 seconds, this is the problem with me only thing is that i have to do it again and again.
Once i put the laptop to sleep its sleep indicator begins to blink but suddenly freezes indicating that now it won't start and is frozen.
I've tried 2 different chargers. Also note that this problem occurs with following configurations:
1) Battery+Charger
2) Battery only
3) Charger only (tried with 2 different)

Laptop Details:
Acer E1-572G
i7 4th Generation
8 GB RAM
AMD R7 M265 (which doesn't let me install latest drivers from AMD, it just get frozen in the middle of installation )

A laptop repairer has told me that there is a problem in the Motherboard and if he tries to fix it then the motherboard might die .
Any sort of help would be appreciated

Answer:Laptop doesn't start once put to sleep or shutdown.

Welcome to the Ten forums.

Certainly not to turn you away but have you referenced the Acer forums for your machine? Since some issues are machine specific they may have determined root cause. I do see hits for AMD drivers.

It looks like there are possibly two problems in the this post, one regarding power and one regarding AMD drivers. They very well could be the same root cause and you are seeing the results as a frozen install or an inability to sleep / shutdown.

Lets first try the sleeping issue. Can you confirm what version of you r BIOS you have loaded? The most recent version is 2.17 dated September 2014. You can see this by typing msinfo in the Cortana search bar and then click on System inforamtion desktop app. Not saying BIOS is an issue however lets understand where yours is. As per all manufacture sites, updating a BIOS has some risks.

Can you also please confirm that you have no unknown devices in your Device Manager listing?

Have you made any changes to your power plan apart from shutting off display or when to invoke sleep? If so we might start by reseting your power plan to its default.

If I understand your post, this problem of not being able to start / awake your machine can happen if you shutdown your machine or if you put your machine to sleep. My first inclination is that your machine doesn't properly support hibernate under windows 10. I would open a Command prompt with Admin rights and enter the command powercfg -h off Th... Read more

I recently changed my favicon on my self-hosted blog. But the old favicon is still showing up as the shortcut on the desktop of my laptop computer after more than a week. The address bar and tab bar are displaying the correct favicon in IE7. I am certain the problem is associated with my laptop computer because my desktop computer, which never “saw” the old favicon, is displaying the correct favicon as a desktop shortcut. Both computers are Dell and have IE7. I have done the following in an effort to fix the problem:

Removed all links in my favorite’s folder and all shortcuts from my desktop, then performed the below four bulleted steps below.
Removed all traces of the old favicon from all folders on my computer, then performed the below four bulleted steps below.

• Cleared my cache manually through IE7 tools.
• Flushed dns with ipconfig.
• Ran CCleaner.
• Rebooted my computer

Made sure CCleaner emptied my Recycle Bin.
Made sure the site address was not protected in my CCleaner.
After the above bulleted steps I saved the links again in my favorites and as shortcut on my desktop.
Did the first step a second time, completed the four bulleted steps again, and waited 24 hours before I added them back to my favorites and my desktop.
Set automatic dns flush to every 4 hours.
Completed a search on my computer, including hidden files and folders, and the old favicon was not found.

Anyone have any ideas?

Hey all, recently installed Windows XP, and i have 2 Kingston 256 MB ddr ram, dual channel, and after installin and setting up XP, after right clicking My Computer, and properties, it is displaying 384 mb ram, where it should be closer to 512 mb ram.. will this affect anything, and if so, how can it be fixed. am running a GeForce 4 128 MB 4x video card atm also.

Answer:Windows XP displaying wrong amount of ram

Check your 2 Kingston 256 MB ddr ram. It looks like one of them is not 256Mb but a 128Mb. Try them one at a time to determine which is which.

Ok, here is some thing interesting: My CPU speed under the System Properties seems to be displaying wrong. It says that I have a 785Mhz processor, which is of course wrong. It should be 2.8Ghz. When I use a program called CPUStabTest and look under System Properties it says 2.8Ghz, also when I use another Program it says I have 2.8Ghz as well. It is not really a problem, my computer is not slow and it still runs alright, I just want to know what the heck is going on? Why does windows say that I only have 785Mhz when I have 2.8Ghz I have AMD Athlon II X4 630 (Quad-Core)Thanks for you replay and help.

Answer:My Computer displaying wrong CPU speed

Why 785mhz? When its idle cpu mult and reference clock are changed(down) u can disable cool n quite if u want to run cpu at full speed all the time.

Hi
I am having this problem of my fonts in vista has gone wrong and I can’t change them back. I didn’t do anything to change them it just happened.

I tried changing the theme and appearance but nothing worked. Not all the fonts in the system are affected also. The button fonts are now bold. Also windows live messenger fonts are bold. Message box fonts are also bold. Google talk fonts and some other application fonts have changed to a very small font hardly readable.

Check attachment...

I just don’t want to reinstall to fix this . Some of the menus in some applications I am working on hardly readable now . It is very difficult to work.
Can anyone tell me how to fix this?

Hi, I am a graphic designer, so I have to use helvetica, however, with windows 10 there is an issue. Some sites that use helvetica end up picking a weird version of it. One of them being paypal, uses this awful Helvetica thin compressed.

There are other sites too. Some use a Helvetica heavy oblique. The weird thing is the website itself doesn't use that specific Helvetica font.

Anyways, it's a minor issue, but... I coudn't remove / delete these fonts these fonts. I tried to delete them and hide them but to no avail.

Answer:Windows 10 - Wrong fonts on websites

Hi, I have the exact same problem, it renders a number of websites almost unreadable. I tried to delete/deinstall Helevetica Light, but Win10 won't allow me. Some suggest you turn of DirecteWrite in Google, but it didn't solve it for me.

Hi! I'm using Win7 in portuguese (pt-PT) and the calculator has some some keys with strange symbols in them. So, instead of the backspace arrow, there's a rectangle, and the "x" was replaced by a square. In scientific mode it's even worse.

I've already restored windows fonts through the control panel. I've renamed the calc.exe.mui and nothing. I've even tried downloading an english version posted in these forums, but it didn't work. Even the language remained the same.

Any thoughts on this?

Thanks in advance.

Answer:Calculator displaying wrong characters in keys.

i see the difference.
did you make any changes to your computer recently? you could try a System Restore to a date that you did.

Why do my thumbnailed folders (with a folder.jpg inside of them) display random images that I never assigned to them? Is there are way to correct this behavior or is this just an XP glitch? Using Tweak UI I increased the amount of folders for XP to store in memory to 10,000 thinking that may solve the problem, but it hasn't.

It's especially frustrating since I spent many hours organizing my Music folders so that they display the correct cover art.
For example, why does my Radiohead folder, which should display an image of the band (which is in the Radiohead folder as "folder.jpg") assign an image of Cindy Lauper, which is in another folder?

Answer:Video Card Displaying Wrong Memory

Not sure you understand the terminology. vDDR2 does not mean you get 3 lots, DDR3 is the TYPE of memory, so if it says 256, thats what you get, not 3 times it.

Hi,
New here so I hope I'm the correct forum! I use IE and Firefox for browsers. They are both exhibiting the same problems:

The text display and fonts are uneven in all webpages. For instance, in yahoo mail some of the text in the control buttons has a 'strikeout' through it; the checkboxes are not visible to select an email.

When I open Facebook and type text the font is corrupted and illegible, looking like one font is being placed on top of another unevenly.

However, when I type in a search in the Firefox search bar or type in a url there is no problem.

I have changed the font size/zoom properties but the text is still inconsistent and the pages are still displayed incorrectly.

I have tried rebuilding the IronCache file. I have uninstalled all programs that were installed immediately before this problem started (mainly Adobe CS5).

Obviously I can't find the solution. I can have the OS reinstalled but it will cost $100 and I'd rather not pay that at this point

Any help here would be GREATLY appreciated. I have never seen this particular problem before and I've been a programmer for 17 years.

Thanks!

Hi all,I'm running Win XP Pro SP2. After I recently had some trouble with malware etc and sorting out the issues around that ( http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/138672/still-something-wrong/ and http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/138329/no-more-access-after-running-combofix/ ), now I have one issue remaining (I hope it is only one): ASCII characters >127 are displayed the wrong way (some squares or asian signs instead of usual 'umlaute' in OutlookExpress), if I cut and paste something into Notepad or Excel everything is fine. some system windows are not using their usual fonts, apparently something is changed, just I can't figure what some characters are using wrong sizes, like Nero displays the playing time in a font size that makes it hard to read anything. my explorer cannot access (actually it can access but does not execute double-clicks on anything inside) directories containing ascii >127 anymore, my laptop has no problem with thatThese issues bother me since I got back access to my system in first place (see above). I have no clue what happened and resulted in this, but it is not really nice and giving me a headache as I'm working on both systems usually. Previously this never was any issue.Appreciate any help I can get to sort this out. Thanks, AbuRaouf

Hi, I am new to the forum.
When ever I start my system I always get my dial up box even if I tick never dial up a connection. I get the same box again even after shutting down. I don't know if it is connected, but my mouse pointer seems to freeze and the timer button stays on the screen.
I recently downloaded Xoftspy software and it found 80 different parasites which i deleted.
I am running windows ME and use Norton anti virus2002 and Zone alarm firewall.

Answer:My dialup box keeps displaying at startup and shutdown

Welcome to TSF.

Xoftspy is rogueware and we don't recommend using it. Uninstall it

Please download Ad-aware SE and install it if you don?t have it already. Make sure it?s the newest version and check for any updates before running it. Go to this site to get the plug-in for fixing VX2 variants. Also make sure to customize the settings in Adaware for better scan results. Run the scan and fix everything that it finds.

Please download HijackThis. Create a folder at C:\HJT and move HijackThis.exe there. Run a scan and save the log file. Post the whole log file here. Do not fix anything since most of them listed there are harmless (some are system required). This program will help us determine if there is any spyware/malware on your computer.

I got to shut down my computer and it says windows is shutting down, The tower shuts off, the monitor shuts down but comes back on completely white. But the tower is still off, I have tried to shut down the monitor with the power button and the monitor stays white? Why? I have been having a little flickering going on a times.

Answer:monitor displaying white after shutdown

halfpint, maybe yours is different than mine? FWIW, Windows seems to have been plagued with shutdown problems of one sort or another since day 1. I use a standalone shutdown proggie (for convenience) called 'Slawdog' (said to work on all versions). Get it free @:http://www.slawdog.com/products/sma...among other places. Works good and I drag/dropped the icon into my quick launch so it'd be handy for use. On mine, I select the 'Slawdog' icon and turn the monitor 'off'. It shuts down completely. Maybe?HTHEd in Texas

I bought this computer a year ago and it came with Windows 8, which I upgraded to 8.1 and then 10. Today, I formatted my hard drive and installed Windows 7. This has caused some issues, such as with drivers.

Chrome is not displaying pages as it used to. Text is poorly aligned, often the wrong font, and there are these boxes appearing:

Here is how it displays in IE:

I have already checked encoding and it was using Windows1252 and I changed it to Unicode and nothing changed.
It's not a driver issue either as I already updated drivers and everything works fine in IE.

Not sure if this is a MS issue. Default zoom setting for Edge is 125% but Outlook email is suddenly really tiny in size despite Edge showing 125%. The right hand 30% of the screen is now just empty white space. If I change it to 100% and back to 125% then it corrects until I close and reopen Edge. No other tabs are affected.
