Display problems: flickering / freezing

Question: Display problems: flickering / freezing

I bought a refurbished laptop (hp 6930p elite) from an ebay seller last month. The laptop has been having display problems. I first noticed occasional flickering. It can be temporarily resolved by adjusting the angle of the laptop screen, but the flickering always comes back later. I connected the laptop to an external monitor and had no flicker problems, so I think I've counted out video card issues.

I've had occasional display freezing as well. Ie, programs still run, but the entire display stops or skips for a second or two. The problems (flicker and freeze) are most prevalent when I'm actually holding the laptop in my lap... I guess because it is a hardware problem that is disturbed by small movements?

I contacted the seller, and they said I could take off the front bezel and check the cable connections without voiding the 90-day warranty they offered. I reset the connections between the inverter the display panel and the backlight, but it didn't help.

Both the seller and I are trying to avoid me having to ship the laptop back to them for replacement or repair. (Costs them $ and leaves me without a laptop for a while) They've offered to send me a new inverter, but I don't know enough about laptop display mechanisms to be confident that the inverter is really the problem.

Just wanted to get some feedback or a second opinion on what could be causing intermittent backlight flicker and total display freezing.

Preferred Solution: Display problems: flickering / freezing

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Display problems: flickering / freezing

Hi and welcome to TSG.

This certainly sounds like an faulty inverter / backlight problem. I had the exact same problem on an old Fujitsu Seimens laptop... flickering screen which could be temporarily fixed by moving closing / reopening the lid. Over time it just got worse and worse until it eventually went totally.

Replaceing the inverter board (normally a pretty quick and easy fix) fixed the problem. If you have had it apart enough to check the connectors you shouldn't have a problem replacing the inverter board.

Hi All, Your urgent attention to this issue is highly appreciated. I had purchased Lenovo Z580 laptop (QB05312638) on 25/08/2012. On the date of my purchase there was an advertisement from Lenovo stating " 3 years Warranty" ( 1 year accidental damage + Onsite warranty & 2 years Carriage Warranty). However my laptop was down and required to be serviced within a year due to keyboard case problem. This was serviced at that time and now I am facing same issue of keyboard case problem which led to my display flickering issue as advised by Lenovo authorized service centre. Though my Laptop is still under 3 year warranty, the service centre states that I have only " 1 year of Warranty " as per the records and charges me INR 16,000.00 to service the display issue. Also the service centre states if my record shows this as " 3 year period of Warranty " they would do the needful. Out of my interest I had spent the amount from my pocket for the keyboard case of INR 7000.00. Please advise if the warranty period could be changed to 3 years so that the display could be changed. I am also trying to get in touch with the service team ( [email protected] & [email protected] ), however there is no response inspite of multiple chasers. NOTE : My Lenovo laptop (Z580) is still with the Lenovo service centre for more than 45 days, awaiting an update from lenovo. My 3 year warrant expires on 25/08/2015. Thanks & Warm Regards... Read more

Just a headsup - This is NOT the official support forum. You may get advice from a mod but it is not certain.

Your best option is to call Lenovo and try to talk to their Manager.

Also, once your warranty expires, it cannot be renewed. You can check the warrranty status online here -

Ok first of all I know very little about computers. I'm not sure if I can provide all the information needed. But my computer is a dell with windows xp sp3. I haven't had any problems until yesterday. It started just with online games. The display would start acting up and then everything would freeze. I couldn't alt+tab or bring up the task manager. Then today the same thing happened while i was on the internet. I tried ctrl+alt+delete and after watching the screen flash for a minute or so the task manager came up not once but 11 times. Last night I made sure all my drivers were up to date and checked for viruses. I couldn't find any problem and there are no error messages. The display just gets weird and then my computer freezes. And I have to either restart or wait for 11 task managers to pop up. I'm just wondering if there might be something I can do other than checking for viruses and updating drivers and java. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

Answer:Display problems and freezing

Hi Seanster26, welcome to TSF,

There are many possible reasons for this, steaming from many possible causes. The first, and most obvious(most people miss the most obvious problems/solutions so don't worry!) is to think back to just before the problems started - did you install anything, like software, drivers anything like that? If so, list it below and we can investigate. Perhaps try running a system restore to before the problems started happening and see if this helps.

Did it slow down gradually and then you've got these problems. Or was it working one day, then the next it was doing as you describe?

Apart from running virus scans and the like, the other thing to check is how much hard drive space you've got remaining. Also, try and run a defragment on your hard drive - if you're not sure how to do this, just let me know and i'll run you through it.

Best of luck, we'll do our damnest to get you back up and running

Regards,
TheAtheist(Joe)

Hello again, everyone at Bleeping Computer. Got a new challenge for ya.

I'm having multiple problems with my desktop, and until you tell me otherwise, I'm putting all the blame on IE9!

Months ago, when the newest version of IE came out I rolled back to IE8 after installing because I didn't really like 9. Been using it all this time with no problems.

Yesterday, stupid YouTube decided that they didn't want HTML5 to be supported by my browser anymore and I was forced to upgrade back to IE9 to watch ANY videos on the site. And I suddenly remembered why I hated it. It freezes. Constantly. Mostly just the Internet- but every now and then, the whole system freezes and I have to restart. Not only that, but it's affecting my display driver somehow. The screen will go black and my monitor looks like it turns off then back on and I get a "Display Driver Not Working" message.

There also seems to be an issue with Windows Update, as it doesn't show anything when I check for new updates, but when I run Advanced System Care, it will show me 6 or 7 Vulnerability Issues (which all look like Win Updates).

So far, I've ran scans with Microsoft Security Essentials, SuperAntiSpyware, and Advanced System Care (Deep Scan, WinFix, Security Holes Scanner, and Driver Manager) and I can't find any real issues.

I'll just hang out here in good ol' Safe Mode until I hear back from someone on this. Thanks in advance!

Answer:Freezing and Display Driver Problems

Hi -My first idea is that Advanced System Care (Deep Scan, WinFix, Security Holes Scanner, and Driver Manager) is causing several problems -This program has been known to clash with other Antivirus and Antimalware programs, so for that reason I usually remove it first Information and Removal Tool to use After you uninstall the program, first from its own Uninstaller, and Programs and FeaturesTry this quick basic idea first, and post back with any results so we can then have a deeper look -Thank You -Spelling Edit -

Hello,I am having some serious display issues. I believe it is a hardware issue from what I have read. I received the laptop in July 2014 and it has been one issue after another.  Problems: 1) First off the display is lousy at best - the display is washed out and many of the graphic windows that pop up wash into the display making it difficult to view for extended periods. 2) I am attempting to use the laptop for business and some graphics design with SolidWorks and various other programs all of which have one display issue either the screen resolution changes instantaneously and unexpectantly or something like the image below: [URL=http://s50.photobucket.com/user/manonthemoon_26/media/displayproblem_zpsa3c855e4.jpg.html][IMG]http:...  Does anyone have any ideas on how to fix this. I assume this is a hardware fault and that the display would need to be replaced to correct this? possibly the video card? [URL=http://s50.photobucket.com/user/manonthemoon_26/media/displayproblem_zpsa3c855e4.jpg.html][IMG]... All help is appreciated as I need to fix this or get a new laptop that actually works. Thank you.

Answer:Y50 - DISPLAY IS TERRIBLE AND EXTENDED DISPLAY FLICKERING AND OTHER

This will void your warranty I'm sure, but if you google "laptopscreen" you will find compatible IPS displays for the Y50 for about $90 USD. There are YouTube videos on replacing the Y50 screen. I ordered one yesterday for my U530 because I agree -- the screen is bad. Your photobucket link in #2 is broken.

Recently started having a problem in all programs running on the PC. It will randomly freeze up the current program running and the title bar will flicker for a few moments (anywhere from 15 seconds to a minute) then will be fine, until it happens again. This happens in any program currently active, have seen it occur in Internet Explorer, Chrome, Word, Excel, PhotoImpact Pro, among others.
It is very annoying and seems to be getting worse (happening more often). I have run virus and malware detection and cleanup. I have a Windows 8.1 OS. HP Pavilion 23 computer. AMD A6-5200 APU with Radion HD Graphics 2.00 GHz. 4.00 GB RAM. 64-bit.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I just installed a new gfx card and when my windows loads up it takes longer than usual to load the desktop. When it's loading the desktop, my monitor will flicker on and off a couple of times before settling down. Also when I play games it will just freeze with the sound still being played and when it unfreezes my monitor will go off and come back on.

Anyone got any idea?

Thanks

Ook, this is happening to my parent's system, basically the logon screen will either freeze or when you do get to log on the 'Welcome' goes blurry and freezes also. If you do manage to logon then you get these little lines about 20 pixels long and no more than 1 pixel high flick onto the screen every few seconds.

Specs are:

Athlon 3500+
2GB DDR
On board geforce 6100
400w PSU
Vista Premium
Screen is a 3 day old 20" acer

The system itself is almost 3 years old, it originally came with XP but last november it completely screwed up and I only have a copy of Vista so that's why it has it.. I'm hoping this problem isn't hardware related but does anyone know what could be causing this? I'll need to dig out my vga adapter to try the screen on my rig in case it is just a faulty screen.

Cheers

Answer:Flickering and freezing screen

I would check the screen first then go from there. Very likely it could be the video card too.

Hello I bought a used T41 about a year ago, and changed its hard drive from a standard 40 gb to a 120 gb one (dual boot WinXP/Ubuntu, did not use the recovery console to reinstall windows, rather used my own copy and downloaded the drivers from the Lenovo website). The computer worked fine up until a month ago, when, in the midlle of browsing, the display on the screen started to "shake" (kind of hard to describe, but was it was like a shearing and some fuzziness). I turned it off and turn on again and the computer would either not boot, or would boot normally and would show the same symptoms as above randomly (smtimes after 5 min, sometimes after 2 hrs). This was the case when the computer was plugged in (with or without the battery attached) or just on battery powe. I am startin to think that it might be a problem with the display adapter, which i think means i would have to replace the whole mobo. I am just posting here to see if anybody has any suggestions either via knowlegde or prior experience. Thankx in advance

Answer:Freezing and flickering of the screen on a T41

oh, and i forgot to mention the most imprtant part. When the display was "shearing", there was no response from the computer (mouse cursor not moving, could not type), which seems to suggest that is not just the screen ( i have had it connested to an external monitor as well and had no luck either

Well I've amassed a plethora of problems.

I'll post my laptop specs below the list of problems.

Cursor and screen freezes, have to reboot several times to unstick it.

Get blue screen of death with different error messages if I jar the
laptop or move it too quickly.

Windows repair doesn't work. Starts, progresses, then error message.

Windows restore doesn't work. Starts, progresses, then error message.

Windows update sometimes can't update.

I get a white screen then I have to slap the laptop to get back to normal screen or it just will go back to normal screen or not.

I will get a black screen with a multi-colored hair thin line on left side of the screen.

Now, Windows start icon won't work.

Whirring noise from fan.

I'm on an old Gateway NV79 using Windows 10. Same problems with Windows 7 then upgraded to 8.1 then upgraded to 10. Same problems.

Checked monitor attachment but it seems solid.

I've got new battery but that's about all I've needed to replace. This is one excellent machine. Best computer I've ever had bar none. Thanks for any replies.

A few weeks ago, my XPS 15 started flickering for about 1 second and then would freeze completely, couldn't move my mouse and if there was any sound playing before it would stop. It normally happens right after I open the screen and it wakes up (doesn't happen on boot, just when it was sleeping) but occasionally happens while I'm using it. I've tried reinstalling the graphics drivers (both the 960M and the 530) and that hasn't made a difference.

Question: Display flickering

Last year I bought a Pavilion 15 notebook, until yesterday everything worked fine. But recently my display brightens and dims for a few seconds and then sometimes go back to normal. I noticed when I push on the back of my display the colors turn to normal values. But when I release it all the colors are really bright. All my drivers are up to date. Any solutions for this? Is there a problem with my laptop?

Question: Display Flickering

I bought pavilion au003 tx on 12 aug 2016. Since the day after it has the issue of display flickering randomnly. I have complained about it many times and the issue has not been resolved yet. They also changed the cable after my complaint but the problem still persists. Whether it's a software or hardware issue, hp support has not been able to identify it and I am really disgusted.I have uninstalled and reinstalled the updated versions many times as per their advice. Question: Flickering Display

Hello all

I wasn't to sure where to post this particular thread. Please excuse me...

Since January of 2014 I have been having an issue with the display. I'm not to sure how to describe this one, because I have never came across anything like it before. But from the bottom of the screen, there seems to be a flickering of some sort..I do have a video that I have uploaded. The quality is not at it's best, so please excuse that. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kJVC...ature=youtu.be

The video card that I have is a GeForce GTX 780. Current, Driver version 340.52. Now this will happen only when the computer has been turned off for about 6/7 hours. It doesn't always happen every-time, but when it does, it will continue to flicker until' I reboot. Sometimes it even takes 3/4 reboots to make it stop. Or it will settle down eventually give Or take 3 to 6 minutes on it's own accord. I just want to add that I hardly had any problem during the months of April and August. From in-between those months it use to happen, maybe once a month, if that. Which leads me to believe that it's the drivers that are at fault?

I use my computer during the day for work purposes as well as pleasure. Games, Browsing the net. But I have never experienced any of the flickering at the bottom of the screen during the day and the late evening if that makes any sense?

Thank you all for any input

Hi, I bought a Y50 two months ago and after a week the display started flickering pretty horribly. Just straight white and gray lines flying across the screen at random intervals depending on the angle of the screen. Not really visible on white screens, but pretty distracting on dark ones. I figured out that this was a display cable problem, and got a replacement. Well, after a week the replacement Y50 I got did the same thing. Next week, I'm getting my second and apparently final allowed replacement.  Should I expect this problem a third time? Anyone else have this issue as well? Is there some sort of unspoken rule that you shouldn't close these stupid things, or else the display cable comes loose? Would it be easy to manually fix this if my next replacement has this? The associate I spoke to said that this doesn't happen often, but I find it hard to believe this since I got two in a row.  Not very happy about the quality control of these laptops, considering the one I'm using now has a dead pixel, had a missing screw and 5 half-turned screws. It also smelled like chemicals for over a week, but I guess I'm rambling.

My computer display keeps flickering, I think it's a problem with Windows XP rather than my monitor but I'm not sure. I'm pretty useless with computers so please be basic. Thanks.

The first thing to do is find out whether it's your monitor (probably) or the rest of the system (probably not) - and the only way to do this is to swap monitors with a friend and see what happens. Then at least we'll know where to try and fix.

First off you should probably place another fan in the case, or another one on the graphics card. Your other temperatures appear to be normal. I was having issues like this awhile back. Try updating your graphics card driver, but use forceware. Here is the link for your card- http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp_2k_81.98.html . Hope this helps!

Recently, our home desktop computer (this HP Envy 700-216) has been causing the top of our monitor to experience some flickering. It seems to be the top pixels that are being affected, and I'm not entirely sure what the cause is. It goes across the entire display, but one portion is the most prominent because it flickers a white rectangle (near the left.)

This seems to occur only when the display is moving (i.e. when I'm typing, watching a video, or moving the mouse.) It's almost as if it's trying to mirror something, because the effect will be very prominent if I open File Explorer. In fact, I was able to snap a picture of it while this occurred:
It's connected to an Acer H203H monitor via VGA.

Two things seem to solve this issue (temporarily): A system restart, or unplugging the VGA cable and reconnecting it. I'll try turning the monitor off and on the next time this problem occurs to see if it fixes it with any change of power (i.e. the monitor will shut off during a restart, with the VGA unplugged, or if I manually turn it off.) I'm thinking it's a VGA cable issue, a monitor issue, or a driver issue. We just bought this Envy desktop refurbished about a year ago, so I'd be surprised if it was a video card problem. Although, we go through monitors like crazy at our house and my dad usually ends up buying another cheap monitor where he can find one. Perhaps I'll have to pitch in some suggestions if this one ends up dying ... Read more

Answer:Flickering at the top of monitor display

I'd start with basics:
1) try a different cable
2) try a different port
3) test the monitor on another computer and/or test a different monitor on that PC

That should determine the cause (ie: PC or monitor).

Hifor the last day or so my display on my monitor keeps flickering about every 2 seconds as though it were doing a refresh and the egg-timer is constantly displayed next to the cursor.i have a HP COmpaq d330 desktop with a Gigabyte Radeon 9250 128Mb Graphics card and a AOC monitor.i have downloaded BIOS updates. i have tried to change the monitor refresh rate (currently 75mHz) but that does not seem to have made a difference.does anyone have any ideas? it's infuriating because it is preventing the mouse from selecting anything the first time if it is going through it's 'refresh'thanks

Answer:display flickering like a refresh

what you need to do is determine if the pC or monitor is at fault. try it on another PC.If the PC, then graphics card if monitor then try a degauss and if still no better then it might be time for a new one.

Hey guys.

This is really difficult to explain but i'll do my best.

When I load up my Laptop, occasionally it will display colours schemes to look like XP and not my colour scheme, but then if i click google chrome the top bar (right at the top) would be what an XP internet browser looks like and such and then it'll flicker for a bit until it comes back to my normal chrome bar (This isn't anything to do with chrome).

When I close all application that this is happening too it'll then go away and my PC will be normal.

Any advice?

Craig

Answer:Windows 7 display flickering like it's XP

Hi -
Basic information from M/soft Windows 7 help topics.
To change the default Windows color scheme, follow these steps:

Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
Double-click Display, and then click the Appearance tab.
In the Scheme box, click the color scheme you want.
If you want to define a custom color scheme, click a screen element in the Item box, and then click the color you want in the Color box.
NOTE: For screen elements that contain text, you can also specify a font style, size, and color.
Click OK.

The display on my Envy 15, product number: J9H90UA#ABA, flickers when moving the screen back and forth. From what I have read, this is due to a faulty LCD display cable. I can buy a replacement cable but I am not really sure how difficult it would be to replace it. Does anyone know of any how-to videos or anything for this? I am not very experienced with working on computers. Also, does anyone know how long I can expect the display to last in the current state of flickering before the cable just gives out altogether? Thanks.

Hi,

my recently purchased X230 shows regularily a flickering (see picture) in the display. (In the integrated IPS and the external screen behind the docking station) The service guys already replaced the mainboard and the IPS display (which obviously shouldn't be the fault).

Did anybody else observe such flickering? Do you have an idea, which component could cause such flickering?
Defective C/GPU? Voltage regulators or alike? But then again are they not attached to the mainboard?

Thanks for any hints...

I've had this monitor for two years and just yesterday (even though I didn't adjust any settings) it started to display flickering pixels in nearly every image file whether it be in my browser, or on my desktop. Nothing else flickers (that I can tell), just images.

It's not debilitating (pretty subtle, probably 5% or less of the image has randomized flickering pixels) but it's incredibly annoying.

Any help is appreciated!

Hi

Have a Satellite L640 with a corrupted flickering display - lots of random horizontal lines.

A quick clip of the problem is here: [http://dl.dropbox.com/u/37870878/video-2012-11-17-11-04-46.mp4]

An external monitor functions fine, reboots don't help. I haven't yet tried to disassemble it to check connections.

Of course, it's 7 months out of warranty!

Because an external screen displays OK, I'll start with checking the cable connection to mobo, followed by a replacement inverter board. Other opinions gratefully received . . .

TIA

Answer:Flickering Display on Satellite L640

If everything works perfectly on external monitor the situation is clear: there is some problem with display or connection cable.

Just one question: have you noticed this behaviour from the first moment when notebook is switched on?

Hello. Need a little help here please Turned on my X220 tablet today, and to my dismay, the screen was flickering madly all through boot up as if it were a television with a bad or loose connection/wire, and then as Windows loads up, it flickers out to black. I am currently using it with an external monitor and everything else is operational - just not the display. Checked drivers and whatnot, and everything looks fine. I'm afraid that my hardware is failing or a connection is damaged or loose. Does anyone have experience with this or have experience removing or replacing the screen? Any input would be greatly appreciated. *update* Took it apart and put it pack together, and it's working fine now.... phew.

Hello everybody,
Need some help. My nokia lumia 1520 started facing flickering display issue intermittently suddenly. As a fix I was told to upgrade to 8.1 which I did, but problem was intermittent again. Basically the screen flickers/dances, and even my glance feature flicks if phone is in standby. Then some1 told me to reset the phone, so I took a backup and in process deleted some photos thereby making 23.24GB free space. Then suddenly the flick stopped. I didn't even reset the phone. Its a bit weird. I don't know what to conclude. Will it reoccur ? Any tips on this issue ? pls. advise ?

New to the forums, so please excuse the incomplete information.  New X1 carbon 3rd generation that when it turns on, or wakes up from hibernation, screen flickers, jumps around for about 3-15 seconds and settles down....  Seems to occur regardless of resolution set for display, although worse when set at lower resolutions.... Running Windows 10.  Lenovo recommended reloading Windows 10 drivers which I did with no success....have updated all Windows, Lenovo software through Lenovo Bridge..... Flicker and screen jumping is transient, and the machine runs perfectly otherwise, with stable display once it settles down..... Since the computer is used daily at work and at home, I am reluctant to turn it over to Lenovo for service... Hoping it is a software or BIOS problem, and would love recommendations for determining such.....  Hate to believe it is a hardware problem since my experiences with multiple X1s has been outstanding.   Thanks for assistance.

I have an M400 with Vista SP1 installed. Occasionally and seemingly at random the display will become totally corrupted, flickering madly. This has been a 'feature' since before SP1. We have this on more than one individual PC so we're guessing software rather than hardware.

Usually 'sleeping' the PC and waking it back up cures this but it's incredibly frustrating. Has anyone come across this or better still cured it. We think we have latest graphics card drivers but would be willing to try newer ones if known.

THANKS!

Answer:Portege M400 - flickering display

Hi

If this issue appears on different computers then it?s definitely a software issue!

Do you have an Intel graphic card? If yes, then remove the installed Intel driver and choose the one from the Toshiba European driver page!

If it doesn?t help then it could be worth to try a graphic driver from the Intel page!

By the way; The Vista SP1 is not supported fully by all drivers. Therefore it?s possible that a SP1 affects the graphic driver and the performance.

Cheers

My HP 23es monitor (brand new as of May 7th) is flickering. It most often happens while I'm scrolling through Facebook or watching Youtube videos (it occurs when opening a video or when I pause/play the video). It also happens while I'm gaming and is incredibly disorienting and distracting. My Windows 10 is up to date, my video drives are up to date and optimized. While my monitor drivers are up to date, when I attempt downloading the latest driver and overwrite what I currently have it gives me an error message saying "Access is denied" despite being both the only user and only authorized/admin user. I'm at a loss. If I can't fix it then I'll return it and look at other monitor options.

Welcome to Lenovo Community!

As per the query we understood that you are facing issues with Display flickering on your ThinkPad Edge E440.

Have you checked the system booting into safe mode?
Check with uninstalling the Graphic driver from the system and restart.

Hope this helps. Do post back if issue persists!

Hi, I have problem with HP 8770w with DreamColor display and quadro k4000m. The display flickers (white flashes) with some tones of gray/black. It also flickers when accessing Win8 right hand side panel. The flickering is visible when playing video content : but it is present constantly on the same part of the video (the flickering is not visible on external monitor with duplicate display or any other computer - with same media), it is also visible for example in Photoshop when adjusting curves to image, when you reach certain point of gray/black shadows/colors.I have taken the laptop to service, they changed motherboard, lcd panel, graphic card and the problem is still present. Before taking it to repairs I  have tested it with different drivers (official and 3rd party), different OS and the problem persists. If anyone has any news or solutions I would be more than happy.Thxp.s.does any of you with DreamColor panels notice buzzing noise from top right hand side of the panel. Hi!

Have you tried an external monitor on the notebook?
If the internal monitor not works it?s a graphic card and/or mainboard problem and the mainboard must be replaced.

Just got S205 and see that display  has problem with flickering. It is specially visible on grey, light-blue and similar colors. It is not so long on sale, most sold in Germany. And i see at german forums that many people have same problem. Non solution. - It is not RAM (tested with other, and changing places)- It is not OS. (tested with Win7 and Knoppix boot  DVD - Linux, slightly less flickering, but still visible)- It is not AMD drivers. Tested all posible. And all advices for Catalyst settings, non helped. (Linux has same problem !)- It is not temperature. I believe simply it is shipped with too cheap LCD display.  So shame. I love perfomance and keyboard. Keyboard is one of the best i saw in netbooks. And you can load many heavy apps and use it for a long time. And S205 is just slightly warm. You cant believe that netbook is so cold. No high temperatures. So, my question. What to do ? If i return it back it is 80% chance they will just put same cheap LCD display ? Some advices please ? Have to say that this flickering is not just cosmetic problem. It has great impact at health. If i use netbook for say 2-3 hours and turn my head away, i see waves. Almost as halucinacions. So it is potentially danger to peoples eyes and vision.

So i recently have had some issues with my display. My old GPU was a Radeon 6870. I was playing some newer games, and I noticed it was starting to struggle. Then, the shuttering and flickering of my display started. Occasionally my screen would blink to a black screen then come back on. after about a day of this, it started to full blown crash my PC. i would reboot to find no error messages or reports.

I assumed my GPU was just getting old so i purchased a R9 390. (i plan on building a whole new rig soon). i booted up the PC with no problems. I installed the drivers as necessary and waited for the PC to idle. After about 10 minutes. it immediately started shuttering and flickering. ****ing hell. It no longer crashes but if i play a game, it flickers then sometimes goes completely black.

the PSU is a thermaltake toughpower 850W gold, and the monitor is a ASUS 24" LCD generic thing.

If it's possible, use another monitor and see if this issue is still there, that way you can rule out the monitor.

Monitors are much cheaper today, so replacing it with a better/newer one would be a good option

Hello, guys, as you can see in the print screens I attached, sometimes it's impossible to read anything on my screen, so forgive me if I post this on the wrong forum.

Starting this afternoon I started having a weird display issue. I'm using Windows 7 64-bit (latest SP) on Bootcamp in a Macbook Pro 13' (model 2011). Now almost always the screen is rendered illegible by some weird pixelated noise and flickering, with parts of the screen content missing (see pictures attached). As I move the mouse/type on the keyboard, sometimes the text/icon/image/whatever I'm trying to visualize appears again, sometimes not. I wasn't using the latest Nvidia drivers when it started (was ignoring the Nvidia Experience message saying that updates were available). So I thought it was a problem of outdated drivers. I updated the drivers, rebooted the system and the problem persists. When I boot the system on Mac OS, the screen is fine.

I wonder if this is some kind of virus/malware. i ran an AVG scan but it said my system was clean. Thank you very much for your help.

I have hp envy 2015 and the laptop display is blinking. This blinking is best described as the frequency of the refresh rate of display was not correct. I got envy with winows 8.1 but upgraded it to 10. I have used win 10 for a week but there was fault whit the screen so the laptop was sent to hp repair where they updated bios and replaced the faulty display. 6 months later i face a NEW problem with flickering display. I can best describe it as very slight blinking of the whole screen but it is very anoying when you open aplications or programms that have contrast of dark colors. I made sure all my drivers are updated, i made sure that the refresh rate of the screen is made 60 Hz (max). Backlight is fully bright and there is no interference whit lights in the house cuz the problem is present in darkness. I even tought that there might be the ptoblem with program compatibility but that might not be the case. I am out of ideas what to do please help .

Answer:Flickering Display on envy 2015

Envy 2015 is not really a model we need to know the HP Model number: http://h20564.www2.hp.com/hpsc/doc/public/display?docId=emr_na-c00033108 Sounds like a hardware issue I hate to say. Have you tried an external monitor? If the display is stable on an external then the problem has to be the screen panel itself of a connection to it.

Hi,

I bought an XPS 13 (9343 / 2015) last year. It worked for 14 months without any major incidents aside from the constant freezing due to poor wifi drivers. However, 2 months after the warranty expired, the screen began to flicker. The flickering progressed to completely blacked out screen but the computer was still usable with an external monitor. Eventually the laptop began to freeze even when running on the external monitor. From there laptop stopped powering up consistently, beeping instead. Now the laptop is entirely unresponsive. It won't even start up.
This deterioration occurred over the span of 2 months.
The exact same issues have been documented on this very forum numerous times over the last year. It is a well known issue due to faulty motherboard construction and inadequate quality assurance testing.
I've contacted tech support on multiple occasions. The last time the agent confirmed that the symptoms are inline with a failed motherboard. I was told it would cost 1100 euro to replace! The laptop cost 1100 euro at year ago. In what universe would someone pay the same price to repair something that could be bought again, new? Upon asking to speak to a supervisor I was placed on hold for 30 minutes before being disconnected.
This is entirely unsatisfactory. I've been purchasing Dells exclusively for 16 years. I've recommended them to friends and family for 16 years. After the horrible support and build quality of this laptop I will never buy from D... Read more

I have a problem with my display,
I've worked as i do it the last days and suddenly the white areas on the screen goes pink and it is flickering a little bit, the other colours aren't right too

The graphic card id not the problem, because if I work with an beamer, the beamer screen show me a beautiful picture!!
What could be the problem?

Thanks koyyote

Answer:Satellite A100-733 - Display pink/flickering

Hi!

> What could be the problem?
What do you think?
I mean if the external monitor or let?s say your projector works it could be only an internal LCD display issue.
So I think the internal display of your notebook must be replaced.

In your case I would go to the nearest authorized service provider that you can find on the Toshiba European page. The notebook technicians can order a new LCD and exchange it for your. After this your notebook will run properly. :)

Bye

We've got about 2 dozen of the 4th gen x1 carbons, machine type 20FB, and have had a high number of display related issues with them.  At the moment, we have 3 sitting upstairs waiting for UPS to pick up for shipment to lenovo service, and one more on my desk that was just acting up.  I'm told that we have previously sent in at least another 3 or 4 laptops for similar issues.  I understand that those previous laptops had the displays replaced, and that we have yet to see a recurrence of the issues in one that has been repaired. The problems we've seen are intermittent, and generally fall into one of two categories:FlickeringVideo garbled, missing sections, or complete garbage.  The flickering is sometimes very faint, barely noticable, but other times it's more pronounced, bad enough that users complain of headaches and/or "it's going to cause seizures!" The garbage video issue is what I just saw with the laptop sitting on my desk.  It went to sleep, and when I woke it up, this was what I saw:? After a few moments, the laptop rebooted on it's own and the display was back to normal, but I don't want to send this out with a user now just to get a support call when it happens again. Is anyone else having this sort of issue?  Or did we just particularly unlucky?

I have an e-machines computer with windows xp, 2 gigs of ram. After my computer has been shut down for awhile I'm having a problem. When I first turn on the computer my display flickers so badly I feel as though the computer is going to go out. After a few minutes it clears up. It also flickers occasionally while I am using the computer. I've also noticed that my time is frequently incorrect. LIke tonight I came home from work at 10:30 but the time on my computer said it was 7:12 PM. Anybody know what the problem might be or if the two may be in any way related.
Thank You for your help

Answer:Flickering display/incorrect time on computer

Are you using a CRT monitor? They do that from time to time. If it has a degauss button, push it. That may fix it.

Your time being off may be do to your BIOS battery failing. replace the large watch battery on your motherboard.

OS: 64-bit Windows 10I bought this laptop December 2015 and it has a limited 2 year warranty. I was using it today like any other day but all of a sudden the screen started to flicker. I think it happened when I used the "show desktop" option. It minimized all the windows but the screen began flickering/flashing (kind of like when the screens refresh rate is not right) and the edges of the screen had a sort of ghost image. The screen does not flicker on and off. It stays on but the I guess you could say the brightness flickers high and low. A restart cleared the ghost image but the screen still has that flashing effect.I swear System Restore was active but it's not turned on so going back hoping for a random fix isn't an option. I doubt it will help but I will try updating my drivers.

Hi i have a Hp pavilion g6 running windows 7, was originally running windows 8. I have been having trouble with it freezing/locking up. I have tried bios updates, driver updates, the diagnostic tool for memory check and hard drive check, i have even used used scf /scannow. everything comes up as ok or passed. so i changed to windows 7 thinking it might make a difference, but to no avail. The flickers with these lines for a few seconds and i get a screen full and it either freezes there or a couple of seconds after. Nothing happens when i am in the bios or when I am running in safe mode. please someone help me i have run out of ideas. thanks

Answer:Display shows flickering lines & then locks up. I need help ...

Need the specific model number, but that has the look of a bad video chip which means a bad motherboard. Can you attach it to an external monitor? If I am right the display on an external monitor will also be messed up.

I recently purchased a ThinkPad X270 with the 1920x1080 IPS non-touch display.  After only a very short time using it, I noticed that the display starting jumping and flickering very badly at random times.  The BIOS and all of the drivers were updated to what the Lenovo Companion tool recommended.  I captured some video of the behavior here: https://1drv.ms/v/s!AjP8R5t89zq2oXvMKmnuV_6l0fic I was hoping that this was just a bad individual unit.  I contacted support and explained the problem, and they set me up with a replacement.  Well, the replacement arrived yesterday and it's doing the exact same thing.  Videos of the new one exhibiting the problem are here: https://1drv.ms/f/s!AjP8R5t89zq2oXzhuWwFO34fh-s7 I've started the refund process for the new one because at this point, I suspect it is either a driver problem, a design problem, or a supply chain problem with the LCD panel.  I'm not sure what model I will ultimately upgrade to from my beloved x230 but unfortunately, I'm sure it's not the x270.

A few months back I had to get a LCD replacement. The process was longer then it needed. I got it back and was pleased to have a functioning screen. Not even a week later I started to have black horizontal lines flicker across the screen, so I started troubleshooting on the web. I started doing techniques some folks found helpful, but none of them have worked for me. The problem is I don't know if it is my display, again, or the LCD display cable. I know it has to be one of the other because the horizontal lines do not show up on an external display. The problem also occurs whilst in the BIOS. All my drivers are up to date. Do I need a new display or cable? If so where can I get one? I really do not want to be without a laptop for another month while it is being repaired.

Answer:Y50 LCD display problem (horizontal flickering lines)

It's honestly hard to tell. It could very well be both. If you're still under warranty, just ask support to escalate this to a manager so they can see if they can authorize a replacement.

I'm having a flickering issue that seems to differ from all the others I have seen posts about. When booting my laptop, it goes to the Lenovo screen (black with the lenovo logo), and immediately after, it starts flickering, and just spazzing out for 3-12 seconds. After that the laptop works perfectly fine. No persistent flickering. It only happens during start-up. I was wondering what this issue might be, and how I could fix it. Thank you!

Answer:Lenovo y510p display flickering issue

Maybe it's a Windows corruption thing? There's a relevant switch for Windows Boot up that would appear to happen right there. Press Windows + R, write "msconfig" without the quotes. Go in the "Boot" Tab, look down in the Boot options section and check the "No GUI Boot" box. Restart and see if it makes any difference.  If this does not make a difference, it'd look into fixing the file system.

Hello, I am pretty decent with computers but not an expert. I am having a little trouble with my home theater PC display flickering. My video card is a Radeon HD 6900 and the drivers are up to date. I have the HDMI out of my PC going to an Onkyo 7.1ch HT-R590 receiver and it's output going to my LG 42" TV. My OS is Windows 7 Ultimate X64.

The system used to work perfectly fine but over time the display started to flicker at random times. I tried to hook my PC directly to my TV and it works perfectly fine, so I am 100% certain the problem is in the receiver. I did a bit of research and it appears to be a problem with my receiver over heating. I placed a 120mm fan on top which helped some but the problem is still there.

Now, if I run my HDMI to my TV, I cannot use 7.1ch surround sound. (Even after playing with Audio Return Channel) If I run optical to the receiver, my video card only puts out 5.1ch surround sound for some weird reason. So I did the next obvious choice, I ran a DVI to HDMI to my TV for video and HDMI to my receiver for audio. I thought it would trick it into thinking there was two displays but this does not work, I do not get audio.

I was wondering if you guys knew of any utilities that would allow me to output audio on one HDMI stream and video on my DVI port. I did a lot of looking around and it looks like DMCA calls for HDMI to be encrypted and you can't separate the stream. Or would I just be better off getting a separate audio card to connect to... Answer:Display flickering, need help spliting HDMI signal

No, as far as I've heard/read, you can't circumvent DMCA - HDMI either carries HD audio and video, or it just carries video and you have to output audio via toslink/stereo from your computer to your receiver.

Have you cleaned your receiver, ie: used compressed air to remove the dirt and dust? Have you considered sending it in for repair?

My new X300 has rows of 5 horizontal bars 45mm x 2.5 m on the display.  When you power up it starts with just a few which flicker then after time which varies from a few minutes to an hour the whole screen is full of bars and then the machine locks up.   I got Memory parity errors a couple of times this rarlely happens. There are no flags in the hardware manager.  All the PC Doctor tests run fine.  I have reloaded the system twice.   The odd thing is that machine works perfectly in safe modeFortunately I have on site service.  Lenovo have changed the system board twice and will try again but we are at a loss to determine the problem. Anybody got any ideas. Thanks for your help

Answer:FLICKERING BLACK HORIZONTAL BARS ON DISPLAY

Brian1939, welcome to the forum, strange that it works in safe mode. Do the lines appear on an external monitor as well? If not basically the options are inverter board, display and display cable. My guess would be the display.

I have two computers. Yesterday I hooked up my newer pc to my old ones monitor/keyboard etc to diagnose a seperate internet issue. I really wish I hadn't...I had to use a dvi to vga adapter to plug into the graphics card as the old PC's monitor only has fixed VGA. When it booted it asked me to load new monitor drivers which I did. It didnt help me diagnose the problem so I took the PC back upstairs to my new PC and monitor...BUT when I hooked my new PC (Asus P5Q Pro Turbo with msi 8600GT-OC) back up to my DVI Relisys TL795-RU monitor with the DVI cable it gives a terrible green/yellow garbled display with lines and flickering. Also it doesn't display anything on the initial post boot screen until the XP logo or if i press del and wait for bios to show (both garbled and green). However, it works fine if i use a a vga cable with dvi adaper in the graphics card as I did on the other P.CWhat's going on?? I dont want to have to use VGA as the display is not very clear. It seems as if the card has been altered to VGA and doesnt want to switch back. I've tried uninstalling nvidia and monitor drivers but it doesn't help. I think the problem is deeper than that because the messed up graphics happens even in the in bios.I don't currently have other DVI monitor or cables to check but i'm curious whether the problem is with my graphics card or the the monitor or even windows although I get the problem in the bios too.below is an image of the screen,... I have never heard of a monitor needing drivers.Did you check to see if your video card might have come loose during all the moving around? Try to remove it and reseat it and see if that does any thing.

Symptoms:
-Flickering Display Constantly (losing and regaining signal from GPU)
Also occurs in BIOS Screen
-Blank Screen/No signal from GPU after logging in (immediately or 5-30 seconds after Desktop appears)
Prior Issues
- Cannot wake up from sleep mode 70% of the time with. Mouse or KB (even with Ctrl Alt Del or Win+D)
Results in a black screen but still signal (unresolved)
-Edit: After some research this issue may be caused by Dell's motherboard by the hybrid sleep option in their workstations
Attempted Fixes
-Cleaning the GPU
-Reseated GPU x 4
-Reinstall Drivers
-Switched between HDMI and "DVI to VGA" outputs (TV with HDMI, monitor with DVI-to-VGA)
-Safe Mode (no black screen after login but still flickering display)
-System Restore (undid DirectX Install)
-Artifacting/Distorted colors in several of my reboot attempts- "fixed with driver reinstall"
Afaik there was no windows update or the sort
Could this be hardware or software issue? For one of my reboot attempts I was able to login and use it for around 4 minutes before it froze (the image of the monitor) and lost signal. I appreciate any help!

I have to press F5 to make the display visible everytime I boot up. I thought that it was a software related issue and I tried to format the HDD with original recovery CD. However, the screen keeps flickering from the BIOS stage.
Now, it is even worse. The screen is flickering when power up and I cannot log into Windows MCE after the HDD formated.

After reading the related articles and FAQ, I suspect it was a graphic card (hardware) issue.
My graphic card is NVidia Go7600. Is this true and is it a must to change the hardware (graphic card)?

Appreciate your advice before I contact the local support team.

Thanks a lot!

Answer:Qosmio G30 display flickering and unable to log into Windows

Hi!

That?s a strange issue. Do you have the same problems on an external monitor?

If a display is flickering, the display itself is defective because the FL-tube is causing the error. I think the best is, when an ASP (authorized service provider) checks your Qosmio G30.
Here you can search for one:
http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com => Support & Downloads => Find an ASP

Good luck

Hi There, Recently I have updated my laptop Lenovo SL500 to windows7, and now I am facing an issue like whenever I use one more programs opened and at them same time, the display starts flickering unless those windows are not minimized, there is no problem if only one window at the screen. Please advise how I can resolve this issue.

Answer:Display flickering Lenovo SL500 with Windows7

I have the same suggestion that you got @ tom's hardware - and will probably get @ superuser.com:

If it was working OK before the update to Windows 7, have you installed the appropriate drivers?  There seem to be a full set of '7 drivers available via Lenovo downloads, including a video driver.

I'd suggest installing ThinkVantage System Update, and have it download and install the appropriate drivers.  If that doesn't solve the problem, manually install the video driver.

Hi, I just updated to windows 8.1, and there are some things that seem quite off although i have installed all the windows 8.1 updates from lenovo. First the most annoying part is that the refresh rate and brightness seems unstable when going in and out of the start menu.. Instead of going smoothly the light flickers quite noticably when the laptop isnt plugged in.. This didnt happen during windows 8 if i remember correctly.. anyone with the same problem? Maybe theres one of the updates that i forgot to download..Thanks

Answer:display flickering on windows 8.1 update, Y510P

Hello pegelatrin, I have the same issue: when the brightness is set to about 60-70% th edisplay has a light, but very annoying flickering. Very easy to see when the background is set to dark grey. Did you find any solution to this issue? What I could exclude:- It's not the display (happens on other machines too).- It's not Windows 8.1 (happens on Ubuntu too).- It's not the video driver (happens with different drivers and also with the built-in Intel video card. I tried the drivers from Microsoft, Lenovo and Nvidia too.).- It's not any other driver (first installed all from the support CD, then updated all of them from the Lenovo website, and then I also tried the manufacturer's drivers).- It's not the RAM (happens on other machines and with other RAM modules too).- It's not power management (happens with and without AC plugged in).- It's not the refresh rate (the only option is 60Hz). In my case the current last test is to replace the Samsung 840 250GB SSD which I installed to replace to factory HDD. I don't really think that it makes the screen flickering, but this is my last chance. Did you have the original HDD? Very strange, because I've seen machines working correctly. Any tip to try? Thanks.
