On switch not working with mobile broadband dongle attached

Question: On switch not working with mobile broadband dongle attached

Here's an odd thing.
After switching off my Dell Dimension 5150 and then switching off the power at the mains, which I do when I go away for long periods, it then won't restart until I remove the mobile broadband dongle. I get the flashing amber signal on the power button. However, as soon as I remove the dongle, then the PC starts up fine, or at least it has done so far, so it's not really a problem, but it would be interesting and probably quite wise to find out why this is happening.

I did recently remove the case to replace the CMOS battery as I was getting the low battery message on start-up, but, apart from that, I can't recollect doing anything that may have caused this.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I run Windows 7 64bit os with an Orange high Speed (!) mobile broadband dongle (515m).
The software (Internet Everywhere) stopped working months ago and after much arguing with Orange, they admitted that it was a software compatibility problem with my os but promised that an update would be coming soon. They gave a workaround which meant the dongle worked on dial up (with associated speed).
However, after waiting months for the update, it's finally arrived but it still doesn't work!
Just like the last software version, after installing it clean, it crashes at start up and won't operate.
Last night I had to stay up hours to roll back my system to get the dial up working again as it prevented that from working too.
I'm really sick of this and Orange's response has been woefully unsatisfactory, bordering on insulting. The latest gem was to uninstall everything internet connected then download the software! How? This has been pretty much the level of response from Orange. I'm about ready to cancel my contract with them for breach of contract.
Any ideas anyone?

Oh, my laptop is an Acer Aspire 7540.

Answer:Orange Mobile Broadband 515m Dongle not working with Windows 7

Hi, not sure if this is what you meant by the workaround, but I had the same problem and solved it by manually configuring a dial-up connection with windows using the number *99#
The software started crashing whenever I started it and, much like Orange have now pointed out, I suspected it was some sort of conflict with Windows 7. Initially the only way I had to get round it was constant system restores whenever the problem started, but that wasn't practical. The manual dial-up seems the best way I have found so far. The speed and service using it this way appears to be the same if not better than when using it with the software.

Hi there, my friend wants to buy a new laptop and use a Broadband dongle to connect to the net instead of his home broadband as he is going through a divorce and will be moving to Barbados in 4 months, can anyone please recommend a decent deal/provider? He wont be downloading but will be emailing and surfing...!Many thanks!!

Answer:Mobile Broadband using a Dongle-which is best?

Think they are all pretty much the same. The problem is going to be when he goes to Barbados. He would be better leaving it until he gets there and choosing a local provider.Maybe someone else can advise you better, but i think using a UK provider abroad would be very expensive.

I have a dongle to use with laptop when away from home. I have connected to O2 Mobile Broadband and will purchase credit on daily, weekly or monthly basis when necessary. The dongle claims to be a memory stick and does work in that capacity on the laptop where the O2 Mobile Broadband is installed, but does is not recognised as an external drive in the desktop computer (which does not have the O2 mobile broadband software installed. Any ideas of why not?

Answer:O2 Mobile Broadband Dongle MF 100

If its like my wifes dongle then it has a micro sd card inside, to read those files in another machine you need to use a separate card reader.

You could try and install the o2 mobile software on the DT computer and access it there.

I have recently acquired a ZTE MF 112 Dongle from 3
I installed it on my wife's laptop, (running Windows 7), without a hitch.
Unfortunately when I tried to do the same on my laptop running the same OS, all it appears to do is install then when I click on the icon nothing happens.

A few months ago I decided to disable some of the services that I didn't think I would need on my laptop, could this be the reason?

If it is, can anyone furnish me with the services that need to be enabled?
Cheers

Below is a list of halted services.

I wondered if anyone else was having problems with the new software from their 3 mobile broadband dongle. This new "update/upgrade" installed inself on my computer and I could not then connect to the internet. Others are saying it takes over your home page. I have uninstalled the software and installed the old from my dongle.Problem is other than delaying the installtion there is not way to stop it.Advice and comments would be appreciated.

Answer:Three Mobile Broadband Dongle - New software

I dont know about the new software, where did you downlaod it from, and is it for the usb ddongle, im still using the old software yet i have had problems while im using google on ie 6. Are you sure its a legitimate download from 3 broadband? i dowloaded k-meleon from click here and im using that also using yahoo.co.uk as the home page and everything is now working fine now. If it was downloaded from 3 it's something new that im not aware of. im using one of the old dongles that had firewire usb lead and the software is built into the dongle ie from the sim card.

I've got a 3 mobile broadband dongle I'd like to share over WiFi. I've already ticked the ICS options in the properties of the connection, but I've tried several times to use the internet with both iphone and ipod touch without any joy.

The router I have is a Netgear dg834g with latest firmware. The dongle is connected to the side USB port on my laptop.

Can someone provide any ideas on how to do this?

Thanks!

Answer:How to share a mobile broadband dongle over WiFi?

Some wireless vendors inhibit ICS when you're using their dongle, perhaps that's the issue?

You should consider a 3G router which allows you to connect that device directly to the router and share the connection.

What's the ISP and the EXACT make/model of the broadband dongle?

Dear Members,

During the Christmas break I purchased a Mobile Broadband Pay As You Go Dongle (HUAWEI Mobile Connect Model: E160e HSDPA USB Stick) while I was staying in Helsinki. I have purchased my computer from UK and I got the dongle from a department store in Helsinki. I took the dongle back to the shop and it was tested by using another computer than mine and it worked fine. I do not understand why it is not working with my computer.
Can someone help me to understand why it is not working?

Hi all
Just wondering if anyone can help.
What i have is one of them 3 mobile bb dongles. Now, if i install the software then i can get it to work and get on the internet. But if i disconnect and remove the dongle from my machine, once i plug it in again it wont work lol.
I have to remove the software and reinstall. Could anyone shed any light on this for me? My dongle is a ZTE make. Upon first install of software i had to connect my netbook to the wireless in my house so update could find the right drivers for it

Thanks for any help

Answer:3 mobile broadband dongle works then stops

I found the same thing. It does work though, but not with the 3connect software. If you click the connections icon in the taskbar you should see a connection called 1.3G you can connect it manually buy clicking it and selecting connect. You cant send texts though with the 3connect software.

Hi,

Have had a search on the forums and have found some helpful stuff, but nothing that solves my problem completely.

My Goal
I have a desktop PC where the only internet connection is via a 'USB mobile broadband dongle'.
I have connected the PC via ethernet cable to the ethernet port on a d-link wifi router (which isn't connected to the internet).
I'd like to be able to connect other non-PC devices (eg my mobile phone) to the router via wifi in order to connect to the internet.
To do this, I gather that one possible solution is to bridge the LAN and dongle connections.

My Problem
My first problem is that in 'Network Connections', only my USBdongle connection is shown (see pic) - there is no icon for the LAN/ethernet. In device manager, the "Atheros AR5007EG Wireless Network Adapter" and "Realtek PCIe FE Family Controller" are both showing without any ?'s etc (see pic).

I've also attached my IPCONFIG as 2 pics.

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide!

Other info:
I'm running Windows 7 Home Premium 64 on a HP Pavilion All-in-one MS200 desktop.

Answer:No LAN showing - trying to bridge with USB Mobile Broadband Dongle

I have no idea why/how your ethernet and Wi-Fi are not showing in Network Connections; they are in the ipconfig and are connected to a router.

To bridge you'll need to be paying for multiple public IP addresses, if that is even possible with mobile wireless. You may be able to use Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) if your ISP does not block it.

I bought a PAYG T-Mobile broadband dongle (Huawei E173s-1) and I cannot see the icon or Removable Devices on "My Computer". I have an old ACER, OS Win XP. I can see the pop up message "Found New Hardware" but the Windows Wizard cannot find the driver. In the Device Manager>Other Devices, I can see the make of the key Huawei mobile with a question and exclamation mark. Normally, the driver is in the dongle and should install automatically. I occasionaly download files and software from the Internet. How can I install my mobile broadband dongle on my laptop? I have also a problem with DVDs and CDs, I cannot see them in "My Computer" and they cannot play. Thanks for your help! Sam

Answer:How can I install my mobile broadband dongle on my laptop?

The problem with CD's and DVD's may be the problem with the Dongle too. Some of these dongles create a virtual drive, either a USB drive or virtual CD drive that then installs the drivers for the rest of the functions.

Try this Microsoft Fixit to see if it fixes the drive issue: http://support.microsoft.com/mats/cd_dvd_drive_problems/en-us

Hi all,

I've got a Huawei model E1752 USB mobile broadband dongle, and whenever I plug it in to my laptop, the computer restarts continually until I unplug the dongle.

I'm running Vista Home Premium 32-bit, which is the original OEM OS installed on the system. The system is 2 1/2 years old, and I have never reinstalled the OS (I'm embarrassed to say I wouldn't know how).

I've followed the instructions in jcgriff2's BSOD sticky at the top of the forum, and hopefully was able to include all the necessary information. I'd appreciate any help anyone can provide.

Answer:Crash when USB mobile broadband dongle plugged in

I am only running the last 5 memory dumps (the one's from October).

Interestingly, the 5 dump files blame snapman.sys - a component of Acronis True Image
Please uninstall Acronis, then try the dongle to see if that fixes the problems.
If it does, please install a current version of Acronis that's certified to work with Windows Vista.

Please go to C:\Windows\System32\drivers
Copy the following 2 drivers to your Desktop ( ProDscFS.SYS and ProDscFT.SYS )
Then zip them up and upload them with your next post.
These are unknown drivers that are present in the crash dump and there is no information available about them.

Also, please remove or update these older drivers that were loaded at the time of the crash. Don't use Windows Update or the Update drivers function of Device Manager.
Please use the following instructions to locate the most currently available drivers to replace the one's that you uninstall OR remove:

How To Find Drivers:
- I have listed links to most of the drivers in the code box below. Please use the links there to see what info I've found about those drivers.
- search Google for the name of the driver
- compare the Google results with what's installed on your system to figure out which device/program it belongs to
- visit the web site of the manufacturer of the hardware/program to get the latest drivers (DON'T use Windows Update or the Update driver function of Device Manager).
- if there are difficulties in locating them, post back... Read more

My colleagues and I have the following setup in our project office. We installed a wireless router with a NAS for daily backup purposes. The router is not connected to the internet. To get online, each of us have a mobile broadband dongle plugged in our laptops.

The strange thing is that some of us can use the wifi-connection and mobile dongle simultaneously, but some of us can't. For those who can not, their laptop is searching for an internet connection at the router's address, and not at the dongle's, and obviously fails. They can only connect to the internet if they disconnect from the router, which we don't want because it interferes with the automated daily backups. Any idea on how we can set the dongle as priority internet connection, or something? We all use Windows 7.

Hiya,
I purchased a Go Baby 3G Dongle Mifi unit a little while ago but only tried to use it with my t-mobile Mobile Broadband USB Stick 625 this last weekend.
My new Acer laptop, running Windows 7 home, connects no problem to the Mifi & it will connect to my USB stick when it's directly plugged into it, also no problem. When I try to use the stick with the Mifi, I cannot get the laptop to see the USB stick at all & so cannot connect to the internet.
I've tried just about everything I can to get it to work, but it seems impossible. As a by, when I connect the USB stick via the laptop, my T-Mobile UI displays "EE", the new T-Mobile service, could this be an issue?
Failing that, where could I be going wrong?
Cheers.

Answer:T-mobile Broadband USB stick won't work with Go Baby Mifi Dongle

"When I try to use the stick with the Mifi, I cannot get the laptop to see the USB stick at all & so cannot connect to the internet".
I wouldn't have thought the Laptop would see the USB stick when using it with the MiFi device. It will be the function of the MiFi device to connect to the internet via the dongle, then any computers will look for the MiFi device's SSID as an Available Wireless Network. In the case of Windows 7, click on the network icon in the Notification Area beside the clock and select the MiFi SSID as the network to connect to.

Hi all, not sure if this is the right section for mobile midband but I'll give it a shot...

Yesterday my brother dropped out his acer laptop to me to be updated. The ethernet port on the side of it is broken so he cannot go online with it. I have a mobile dongle so I figured I could use that to update his machine which needs a bit of TLC.

First of all let me say I have installed and gone online with this dongle on many other windows7/vista/xp machines without a problem but when I plugged it into his computer the story was different...

The drivers and software install without a hitch but when I try to go online it will not connect. It says "please make sure the device is inserted and settings are correct" The dongle should just be (plug and play) I have tried every USB port in the laptop and every time its the same story.

Also at one stage it asked me for the AP string/password etc but again this made no difference. Then I saw an error code "711" from windows which is due to a stopped telephony service so I started it manually and still no joy.

I noticed a couple of services were stopped including security centre so I had to start them manually so not sure if something like this is stopping the dongle from working.

Sorry for the massive thread but wanted to give whole background incase anyone here has encountered something similar and knows a fix.

Thanks for reading.

Hi

My bros, laptop Win 7, has a software based on screen icon - shown on screen which is acessed via a hotkey combination, this icon displays a switch between the wired and wireless conx - from wired to wireless - his doesnt start do this automatically.

Alternatively:

Just a thought, have you tried disabling the laptops inbuilt network port?
Perhaps it may default to the only remaining connection, your dongle, but like I said for my brothers unit this doesnt happen..so may not work...?

You should be able to go to the device manager and just right click the network port and select disable. While you are there just verify that the dongles port if its usb or pcmia type are enabled.

Also ensure that wireless connections can be enabled.

btw I am not familiar with win 7 network protocols, so take this with a grain of slat as it were...

Good luck:wave

Hi All ! I'm new to this excellent forum and this is my first post so I hope someone can help ? I bought a HP G62 Laptop PC in March this year, it is an I3core Win7 machine which I have been very pleased with until I started to experience a Blue Screen Crash Dump (BSCD) when I tried to access firstly my T-Mobile broadband dongle and now my "Three UK" broadband dongle. The T-Mobile dongle I have used for about 3 years on my older HP Pavillion XP machine and my ADVENT 4213 Netbook. When I purchased the latest Win7 machine I had to upgrade the T-Mobile driver to a 64bit version which worked quite happily until the recent issues. I have contacted all of the respective suppliers support people without success each seem to blame the other without really trying to help ! So I have folloed some suggested resolutions to similar problems posted on this forum such as return to Best Previous Working Restore Point, MS Memory Tests, Updated all Drivers and downloaded all of the HP Updates but the PC still BSCD's every time. Both Dongles work fine on my ADVENT Netbook which is of course a 32 bit machine. I have some Error reports and earliest memory dump crash files etc but I can't seem to be able to attach them to this message, maybe I am doing something incorrectly ? Hi guys, been looking at various threads to get some advice but can't find the right one.Currently I have BT Broadband wired. Great service, great speeds, good price. I want to be able to use my notebook in my bedroom though without trailing the wire and router up the stairs! Have been looking at going for Orange Mobile Broadband at £15 per month with a 24 month contract. Is it a good service? Am I best to stay with the wires!!! I have looked at the Orange problems website but that is so huge! Just a bit of advice I need really. Thanks In Advance.

Answer:Should I switch to Orange Mobile Broadband?

If you are happy with the service you are getting and the price you are paying then buy a wireless router and a wireless adapter for your laptop (if its not built in) and you can use it anywhere in the house.

Hi,
First of all allow me to introduce myself. I'm Rachel but everyone calls me lezbatt and I'm 23.
Now for the question...

My mums boyfriend has got a HP laptop running windows 7. The laptop was bought new about 2 years ago and he hasn't used it very much. He had a T-Mobile Huawei E1750 mobile broadband dongle installed and working since he has had the laptop. Recently he bought a new T-Mobile dongle from a phone shop which should be a plug in and play device am i right? Anyway it wouldn't automatically install on his laptop so he went back to the shop with his laptop and asked them if they knew why it wouldn't install. He said the woman in the shop un-installed the T-Mobile manager application and then went into to the settings and un-installed some stuff, possibably drivers?. He eventually got a refund but now no dongle will work on his laptop.I went to have a look at his laptop yesterday and when i bring up device manager it has the yellow exclamation sign next to the T-Mobile dongle and his cd-rom drive to. The old dongle he has will install and work on my xp PC so she hasn't formatted the dongle. Could she of deleted an .inf file or maybe an important update?
Thanks guys

welcome to the community. if you have a wwan card, it will be under the keyboard palmrest. many systems are sold as wwan-ready, but that usually only means that the sim card slot is installed and the wwan anttenae are installed. a mobile broadband card (wwan) is typically an option added during purchase configuration. looks like you need a card. hth.

Upgraded my Helix to Windows 10, clean install.  I noticed that my AT&T mobile broadband (Sierra wireless EM7700 4G LTE) isn't working. I keep getting a connection error and it asks me to enter another APN. I've instaled system update and all of the Lenovo drivers etc.  I've added the AT&T APN settings.  The signal meter in the connection manager is a little wonky also.  I changed the Selective Suspend value to disabled.  Windows thinks that the default microsoft driver is the best choice.  The Sierra Wireless Mobile Broadband Update app says I'm up to date with drivers and firmware. Can anyone confirm that their Helix (gen 1) mobile broadband is working with Windows 10? Thanks

Hello and welcomeAre you sure the WWAN modem is installed in the laptop? What's the laptop' MTM code (starts with 20J)? If it's a CTO model (MTM includes CTO symbols), laptop' s/n is needed to determine factory specification. Don't share it here, send it to me via forum private messages service. I'll try to help.

Hi all, I have problem with my Thinkpad l430 and Ericsson h5321gw mobile broadband with windows 7. It has been working just fine for months, but now couple of days ago it stopped working and says that there is no sim card present. The sim card is there, and works fine on other devices. I tried to uninstall all the h5321gw devices and drivers in device manager, and installed new drivers from lenovo's system update. No help. It still says that sim card is not found. In device manager there are two problems, in usb devices there is an unknown device which says the device is stopped, because of error (code 43), and in smart card devices there is H5321 gw Mobile Broadband USIM port, which says that there are no drivers installed, although the driver tab says that there is driver 6.0.0.8 by Ericsson, and windows doesn't find any better drivers. Any suggestions for help?  Edit: The unknown device problem is solved. I unplugged power cord and took the battery off, and it fixed it. Just rebooting the machine wasn't enough for it. It appeared to be usb composite device, and it's now working correctly. The other problem is still there and the sim card is not found.

Answer:L430 mobile broadband stopped working

Now it's getting weird. This morning when I opened the computer it found the sim card. After five days of not doing so. Then when back at home and trying again no sim card found again since. It found it just that one time.To test that if it's hardware or software related I installed windows 8 which media came with the computer and did the system update for it. The mobile broadband works fine with it. And with windows 7 it doesn't.

I've just received my ThinkPad X230 (which is lovely!) and bought a SIM card from 3 to use with the Ericsson mobile broadband I specified with it. Lenovo Access Connections displays the 3 transmitter and tries to connect, but I haven't been able to get it to work at all. Any ideas? It starts by not being able to find the provider, but changing from 3 3G to 3 GPRS/EDGE/HSDPA/3G just results in a failed connection and the error log below. Any ideas? Answer:X230 Ericsson mobile broadband not working with 3 SIM card

Hi dtowsey,

First things first, have you updated your systems drivers and BIOS? I see there is a newer version of BIOS which can be downloaded independently here:  BIOS Update Utility for Windows 7 but if you haven't already, run TVT System Update to ensure all drivers are up to date. Once we are certain the ThinkPad has all the latest updates we can cross that off the list of potential reasons for your inability to connect to the network.

I hope this at least starts you off on the right track!

Ed

Hello All: I can't get the GPS location feature working on my new W520 (4270-CTO).  The device did work once, the first day I had the computer (before running Microsoft Update and Lenovo Update), however, it has not worked since then. I've tried everything I can think of - removing and re-installing all the software, double-checking the BIOS, looking for device driver problems - but no luck.  When I launch the 'GPS Enabler' application, all I see is 'Satellite Acquisition in progress...".  I know the laptop can see the satellite constellation because I have a small hand-held GPS beside the laptop, and it has an excellent view of the satellites.  So does my Blackberry. My operating system is Windows 7 Pro, 64 bit, SP 1 (what the computer shipped with).  I've installed the 83wo13ww driver package (nominally version 6.4.1.6, according to the readme file, but displayed as driver version 1.4.0.5 in the properties sheet of the driver when viewed via the Device Manager); the 83wa20ww Lenovo Mobile Broadband Activation package ( version 4.0.0020); and the 83gp31ww ThinkVantage GPS package (version 2.72). I'm running Access Connections 5.84 (build 83c755ww), which I believe is the current release.  I have placed a SIM card in the slot in the back of the computer, and when I launch the Lenovo Mobile Broadband Activation, it shows all the appropriate information (IMEI, ICCID, etc.) for the SIM card... Just a postscript - I have found another discussion from about 18 months ago that mentions similar problems with a W500 and a T500.  One of the participants in that discussion suggested that improper assignment of COM ports might be the cause of the problem... but, if that is so, how does one go about re-assigning the two ports used by the GPS?  The picture I provided (link is above) shows that my W520 is using COM ports 10 and 11 for the GPS.  I have no idea at all how to change this port assignment. Here's the link to the prior discussion: W500 GPS Problem Regards, Michael

Hi,

I have a feeling this may be a driver error, but I dont know.
A friend gave me a computer,

Os: Vista x86
OEM I think
Hardware age: 2007
Age of installation: not sure, its my friends. Might not have been reinstalled before

CPU: Athlon 64x2
Video Card: Onboard Graphics
Mobo: Inspiron 532 mobo
PSU: Bestec ATX0300P5WB 300W

System Manufacturer: DELL
Model No.: Inspiron 531

It works perfectly fine, apart from when I connect to the internet through 3 mobile broadband (3 Huawei E122). Once it connects, internet explorer launches. As soon as I begin using IE, the computer freezes, mouse will not move, keyboard will not work, then after 2 mins it blue screens. stop code is 0x77. I have tried to exit IE and use firefox instead, this works much better but it still bluescreens, just less frequently.

My friend brought it to a local shop who told him the usb header on the mobo is the problem and needs a new mobo and qouted him ?250 repair. However I dont think this is the problem as, no other usb device gives any trouble at all. And the mobile brodband dongle only crashes once it connects and the browser is launched.

I ran Norton antivirus, super anti spyware, malwarebytes antimalware, and RU Botted. All I picked up was a few malwares.

I also ran full system diagnostic test, with no problems.

Question: t-mobile dongle

Hi a while ago my dad got a new laptop under t-mobiles free laptop deal. the laptop i fantastic but the internet connection is fin, usually about 1.5mbps which i think acceptable for this type of connection via dongle. however the signal strength barely exceeds 24%. Therefore the connection feels slow and at times will come up with the 'cannot find this site' page. it also tends to loose the coonection despite being connected in the web and walk manager. Is there a way to boost the signal strength?

Answer:t-mobile dongle

It all depends on where you are in relation to the transmission mast. Check the T-mobile coverage map for your area. I had no signal in a caravan at all until the dongle was put ouside the window. I then had four bars on the signal indicator. I even got 3.5mbps on the Norfolk coast recently. (with 3 mobile)

Can someone confirm whether the Sierra Wireless HSDPA Network Adaptor is supplied locked or unlocked on the X60s? Just bought an X60s and was told the internal SIM slot is unlocked and would take any SIM card but for some reason it's taken an unhealthy dislike to my T-Mobile SIMs. When I load the ThinkVantage Access Communications Wireless Connection Staus window and click on the Mobile Broadbad tab, at the top above the Connection Status box I get the message "SIM card is locked...." When I load ThinkVantage Access Communications and press the Mobile Broadband button, I get the following message "The installed SIM card is not authorised for use with integrated Mobile Broadband adaptor in your computer." This latter message seems to suggest that Sierra Wireless HSDPA Network Adaptor is locked.

W701 with current BIOS (6KET46WW v1.12) will hang if there is a USB dongle for a Microsoft Explorer Mouse USB dongle in the upper left USB (2.0) socket on boot. Works fine if you put the USB dongle in the lower USB/eSata socket. Note that the upper socket on this 2541-W1Z is NOT a USB 3.0 port (silver, not blue). Course I don't want to put it in that socket since I like to use that for eSata... Apparently the same problem exists in the W5XX laptops as well, but I don't see a post discussing the issue on the W701.

hi all

i only have a 3 dongle as my broadband connection.
am i right in sayin i can put a cable from my pc to my daughters pc to allow her internet connection....
can anybody please give me step by step instructions on how to do this please
thanks in advance gordie

Answer:connecting 2 pcs to use with a 3 mobile dongle

You don't specify what OS you are using so here are tutorials for XP and Vista ICS (Internet Connection Sharing) which is what you need to set up -

XP - http://support.microsoft.com/kb/306126
XP - http://www.practicallynetworked.com/sharing/xp_ics/
Vista - http://windowshelp.microsoft.com/Windows/en-US/Help/bfd3bd31-82f0-4b9c-9cde-fb92bc2b14771033.mspx

Your computer is the "host or server" computer and your daughter's computer would be the "client". Also your computer would have to be powered up for your daughter's comp to connect. And yes, you would need to ethernet cable to your daughter's comp for the easiest way to do this.

Hi, I am helping a friend with his laptop. It is a Packard Bell Easy note TJ67 laptop on windows 7. He had a virus so I used system to roll it back a month and then installed AVG, Superantispyware and adaware to clean up the laptop, which seemed to work fine. The laptop works fine now except for the 3 dongle which I cant get to connect to the internet. I have used the 3 dongle on my other laptop, and the dongle works fine. It installs its own software and drivers and then connects to the internet. I have run a virus scan on the dongle and it is clear. I install the dongle on the packard bell laptop, the drivers all install correctly and the software loads up fine. It even has signal and then when I click the connect button (using the three software) i get the message "The connection attempt failed, Make sure your device is connected to yourand that your settings are correct Would you like to connect again?" I try to connect via dial up on internet explorer and i get the message "Error 633 the device is already in use or is not configured properly"
I can connect to the internet fine through my home wireless system (which is no good to my friend who wants to connect via the dongle at home.
So in short
1) Laptop is fine and have scanned thouroughly for virus and cleaned up
2) Laptop connects to internet through my BT wireless
3) Dongle works on 2 other computers fine
4) Dongle will not connect to internet through packard bell laptop but it worked fine before... Read more

Last week i was on the internet and while browsing a pop up came up at the bottom of the screen to say uninstalling hardware it removed my usb dongle device. I then removed the program and put the dongle back it and it should automatically run the software which it did not do. i have even swapped sim cards in the dongle to see if the sim was corrupted this still has not worked. I have tried to find software online for this device and cannot find any. I did a system restore and this does not help when i click the tmobile icon it just comes up with the error 'INIT FAIL!'

Also in the last two days when i have yet again tried to get the dongle to work windows defender comes up saying it has detected some changes and an error with one or once run keys allow or permit.

Can anyone help me please ?

Has anybody ever managed this ? If so, how ? What settings do I need ?!?
I am using Outlook 2007 on WinXP. I have never had a problem whilst on a LAN but I only currently have access to a Dongle & I can do everything except send E:Mails ... I have a Gmail account and I can send just fine via their online site, it is only within Outlook (and PostBox & Thunderbird) that I cannot send E:Mails.
I have been told by a Customer Service Representative that I need to change the Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP) to smtp.t-email.co.uk and there is nothing else that needs changing, but I cannot get Outlook to send, no matter what I do and I have tried Port setting after Pot Setting with different encryption settings ... I am currently on the edge of insanity !!!
In Internet E-mail settings under the "Outgoing Server" tab, do I choose "Same Settings" or do I "Log on Using" ... what ? What User name and password would that be ?!? And if so, does it require SPA ? What settings should I use in the Advanced Tab, what Port, what encryption ?!?
Why does it have to be so difficult, what are they trying to hide ?!?!?
Somebody please help me !!!!!!!!

Hi,
I have a dual boot system that was Ubuntu 15.04 and Windows 7 Home premium. All was working well in both OSs with the E160 dongle (my only means of internet connection in rural mid Wales). Yesterday I updated to Windows 10 (the download took over 8 hours) and despite everything I have tried there is no internet connection from Windows 10. Fortunately my Ubuntu still works fine. I cannot update or replace the driver easily as I only have the slow access via Ubuntu. Assuming it is a driver issue I will down load new drivers from my decent connection in the midlands and bring them with me next time. Just in case it is some obscure quirk with Windows 10 any guidance would be appreciated.

Question: Broadband Dongle

Hello,
I am moving home and am changing provier and will be without the internet for a while. I am not very good at all this technical stuff and would like some simple advice if possible please.
If I buy a broadband dongle will that give me access to the internet and how does it work if my home has no access?
Thanks

Answer:Broadband Dongle

It uses the mobile phone network. First thing would be to check which provider gives the best coverage in your area. Vodafone, O2 etc all have a coverage checker on their websites.

there are other browsers but i don't think you will gain much in speed.others may have other suggestions but you could try either firefox or opera.i use opera 9 because of lack of memory and find it the quickest but most others would probably say firefox is quicker.google chrome is another that you could try.you will find them atclick here

Hiya,
I've read other threads on this, but I simply need to clarify a couple of points.
I am in the process of dropping out & living on a boat leaving all hard wired services behind, so will be heavily reliant on my mobile phone for making calls. With that in mind, I'm looking to keep my costs to a minimum.
Firstly, do I have to assume that Skype used in this way is NOT free, even when connecting skype to skype?
If I were to choose this method over my mobile phone, could it still be cheaper than either contract or PAYG?
Finally, are there any other, cheaper ways, methods or kit to make calls? Apart from borrowing a mates mobile!
Cheers.

Answer:Using Skype on a laptop with a mobile provider dongle

Skype is free but will use an amount of your mobile download data. If you have unlimited download, unlikely, then this isn't a problem but may create problems. You will also need to make sure that where you berth/moor then there is adequate mobile coverage. As far as I am concerned a mobile phoen tethered to laptop or other device is the same as mobile dongle. Same problems with data usage/costs apply. Assume this is UK only as any roaming would push costs extortionately high.

Hello folks, I am quite new to Bluetooth and I need your collective help and assistance in sync'ing my contacts in MS Outlook with my SE T630.I have followed the steps outlined in the handbook to install. I also read through and followed the steps in Guides to setting up the WIDCOMM device configuration for sync'ing that I found on-line.All done, I activated the IrMC Sync and duly got the pop up box showing the process progress.. until nearer the end when I got the error message as below:"Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime LibraryRuntime Error!Program: C:\PROGRA~1\WIDCOMM\BLUETO~1\BTSTAC~1.EXE.This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way. Please contact the application's support team for more information."I had no other choice but to click on "OK" on the message and then "Cancel" on the pop-up box (as nothing was happening anyway). I then checked the phone and found that I had a list of names but these were not my MS Outlook contacts - they were from my OE address book! So I checked the config. again and yes I do have "Synchronize Microsoft Outlook" selected in PIM Synch. of both the Client and Local services. I checked my "Programs" tab in IE Internet Options to ensure my default E-Mail program was MS Outlook. Under the same tab in "Contacts" all that was available is "Address book". I get a BSOD "Driver power state failure" whenever I connect my Vodafone ZTE K4201I USB Mobile Internet Dongle. I am using a dell Inspiron 15R laptop with Windows 8.1 64 bit. While the dongle does light up, it does not show as 'detected' and the BSOD pops up within a minute or two after connecting. Usually, when it restarts after the BSOD, there is a message that 'no AMD graphics driver is installed'. If I try to update the USB Mobile Broadband driver without the dongle connected (on WiFi) it says that the best driver is installed.

Also, these days even without connecting the dongle, the laptop takes a long time to boot - there is the starting Dell screen, which then goes blank for a while, then again the Dell screen appears, and only after it the login page (with face recognition / password) appears. In Device manager, the face recognition driver shows as disabled saying that it malfunctioned and has hence been disabled.

Can anyone help?

I have an Orange E 1752 mobile dongle which works when plugged into my PC (Orange software installed) I want to use the dongle in a Edimax 3G 6200n broadband router. I have connected the router to the PC using cable supplied with router and put the Orange dongle in the USB slot in the router - The router light shows a 3G connection and the dongle shows it is live (slow blinking of blue light) but it won't connect - What else do I need to do to make it work

Answer:Orange mobile dongle with BB router problem

I have read through the Quick Installation Guide (pdf file) and have to confess to being quite confused by it.At some point it is necessary to "dial" into the 3G service in order to Connect, i.e. to get from blinking blue to steady blue. The "number" to dial will be a GPRS type, such as *99***1# If you plug the dongle into the PC (with its software properly installed) there will be a dialup connection in the Network Connections folder. Double clicking this will connect to the service and, when using the router, it [the router] needs to be able to perform this function.

Answer:broadband dongle question?

Hi

Off hand you cannot use the phone sim in the dongle to use your phones free broadband, but I cannot remember where I read this so contact 3 and ask, but iirc the sims are different and have different signatures for accessing the mobile network.

I installed Vista Service Pack 2 but it disabled my 3Connect broadband dongle. It justs displays 'No Network'.
I used a command line to reset TCP/IP (which I found an instruction for on the internet) and re-installed the 3 software. This worked, but the next time I turned on
my computer I had to re-install the software again - but it wasn't resolved the first time.
How can I fix this issue permanently please? Thank you, Andy.

Hi,

First thought that comes to mind is update the drivers for your dongle!

So what device do you have (model, version of current drivers, Windows vista (Basic, Premium etc). operating system 32 or 64 bit.

With that information we might be able to assist you in finding them. Is this your device?

Hey,

Just a quick question im hoping someone can help me with.

I run Vista on my laptop however at my parents house they have a desktop that runs XP sp1 - im just wondering if my Orange Dongle will work on there machine? as i cant remember if it came with an installiation disk (if it did ive lost it) as it doesnt need one for Vista you just plug it in and your off .... i have a sneaking suspicion this is not the case for XP tho

Anyone offer any help on this?

Thank you
- Gavin

Answer:XP and Orange Broadband Dongle Help.

Hi

You're probably correct on that one because often Vista finds the driver automatically via a database.

However it is probably possible for you to get the driver off the internet. Its difficult for me to find it exactly as all you have said is orange broadband dongle, and so can't find any specifics, you will need the model of the usb dongle, here is orange's support section, try the search function:

A friend who was having problems with his ISP(Orange) and their propritory Router has given up, cancelled his connection and bought one of these Dongles from Three £10 month 18 month contract)which gives upto 2.4 meg download speeds and can be used anywhere...no hotspot or connection required. My question is (I can only get max 2 meg download speed where I live) what is the downside of these dongles..? I have 2 desktops and a Laptop (1 desktop and the laptop access the internet through router/wifi), I presume that by attaching the dongle to each of them I could access the internet..?, sort of answering my own question here..no router equals no wifi so only one computer could access the internet at any given time....speeds too slow for some...Al

Hi
On Friday I spent four hours with a technician sorting out my laptop. He claimed the problem I had was due to the fact that I use my Dongle as my only internet connection. This was causing updates to be incorrectly or just partially downloaded and as my laptop was trying to rectify this it was all clogged up.certain things wouldn't work like my printer and other software kept giving driver installation errors and usbs wouldnt work for memory sticks or my new smartphone.
He said once he had rectified it (which he has) I should not set windows automatic updates and should only do so when I am connected to a better internet connnection such as free wifi hotspot or on a friends telephone line broadband.
My BIG question is is he right and am I doomed to having to slavishly pay for a landline at home or rely on friends and free hotspots whenever I need updates or should my Dongle really be sufficient say if I did my updates at night in order to give them time to download??
I am on the 3G 5GB package for £15.99 per month from three and it normally seems fine for all my needs to the point that I didn't notice there was a problem until I was unable to use my printer one day and then as over time I acquired memory sticks and my new smartphone and an external hard drive all with the same problems I began to realize there was something wrong.
Can anyone offer me some clarity on the issue?

Answer:Is a 3g Mobile dongle alone insufficient to download windows and other updates.

Because MS tends to send out its updates all at once (Tuesdays monthly) It will really cause a big problem with your limited connection.
If the updates were spread out the 3 dongle would be sufficient. Therefore you could possibl get away with:-
"Check for updates but let me choose whether to download and install them"
that way you can download and install them over a period of time thus spreading the load.

I have both a lap top(win8.1) and a desk top(win7). I live out in the french countryside, miles from anywhere and just an old "copper wire" telephone connection. Obviously my connection to internet is VERY slow. I am asking if I can use a "dongle" to connect either my computer(s) or my modem to the local mobile phone mast which is in plain sight just across the field about 800 meters in front of my house. Can I get one dongle to fit to the modem or do I need one for each computer. I would appreciate your advice and if possible your guidance on what sort of specification that I need. Regards and thanks Robert Cooper [email protected]

I am having trouble getting my vodaphone dongle for internet access on the road installed. My PC refuses to install the drivers properly. It worked fine but it has been about 9 months since I last used it. I have made sure I have the latest drivers downloaded from vodaphone and when I try the dongle in my sons laptop it installs and works fine. I thought I would uninstall the driver from device manager but when I try to do this it just sits there for hours. I have to end up closing device manager down using task manager. Any help much appreciated. I am running W7 on an HP G62 Notebook

Answer:Cannot get device manager to uninstall drivers for mobile dongle

Contact vodaphone or HP, sounds like drivers are not compatible. You try installing the drivers that did work with it>

I have bought a Pay as you Go O2 USB Mobile Broadband dongle (Huawei E160). I have an Acer AspireOne Netbook with 512 mb Ram and 120Gb HDD. It is running Linpus? Linux® Lite version. The browser is Firefox.I have got (I think) the latest updates installed for Linux that I was told should allow an idiot like me to just connect. I'm obviously a bigger idiot than people think!! What I am struggling with is getting the dongle to connect so that I can get online. I have tried going through connection manager, Mobile Partners and 3G Connection Manager in the Connect Menu, but all to no avail. The light on the dongle goes solid blue/turquoise but I just cannot get it to open a browser window, etc. To be honest I do not really know how I got the light to come on (but see below)! I can see the dongle in connection manager, but when I highlight it it does not give me the option (as it does with my normal WiFi) to connect. The connection option just stays pale grey in the background. In fact I'm not sure if I have even installed the dongle correctly or if you need to install it? Just to note I have tried booting up with and without the modem connected. It doesn't make any difference to my problem as far as I can see. Also the modem flashes green when first connecting and then flashes blue when (I assume) it is recognised and a signal is available? An idiots guide to what I should be doing and how to do it will be very much appreciated. I purchased a HP ENVY TouchSmart 14-k111nr Sleekbook that came with T-mobile Mobile Broadband for 2 years from the Microsoft Store two months ago. When I clicked 'Internet Access', there would be a 'Mobile Broadband' option for me to choose and select the T-mobile Mobile Broadband. Unfortunately, that has not been appearing since the last few days. I checked my hardware and it appears that there still is a 'Smart Card' but with no information regardin it. I also checked the HP Support Assistant and HP Utility Center but they had nothing. I have tried removing the card and placing it back again. The computer emits the sound that recognizes new hardware but no installater comes up Searching forums, I tried downloading the HP Connection Manager, but it failed to install when an error message ' NO WWAN' came up I also downloaded and reinstalled the latest Mobile Broadband Drivers but nothing happened. In fact, I suspect that it maybe the new updated drivers that caused my T-mobile SIM card to be disabled. I have tried calling HP support but they cannot help and demand payment for 'advanced tech support' when my Laptop is still under Warranty. I tried calling T-mobile, but they said that it was a problem that I needed to contact HP for. I contacted Microsoft that said I need to get in touch with T-mobile. The second call on HP, they told me to contact T-mobile, One big circle. TL;DR: I need the installer for my T-mobile SIM Card, mobile broadband... Read more

Me and my family (of 4) have been on at&t for a few years now, maybe around 6. And were thinking about switching to t mobile because we are using the family of 4, unlimited talk, text, and 10GB data plan. Were paying about $170 for it. And there was a commercial saying the same plan...for $100.... So im tempted to switch, do they have about the same amount if phones? And also, do the not have a 2 yr contract? Cuz that's awesome!

Answer:Should I switch to T-Mobile from AT&T?

If you want to keep your phones and stay on the ATT network you could take a look at cricket. Their website pricing would put 4 lines at $140. But I heard they are matching the T-Mobile $100 deal if you talk to a rep at a cricket store, so that might be worth trying.

How to do it? . I am probably missing something obvious or age is taking it's toll (most likely). How , and with what software. It would be nice if once the mobile was attached it became a choice on the drop down menu when right clicking. I have a T-mobile mobile internet simcard (Netherlands) and have just been informed by T-mobile that it won't work unless in combination with a dongle. I don't want to use a dongle since my shiny new Lenovo Thinkpad W541 has its built-in sim port. Now T-mobile tells me Lenovo must have some software to work around this. Here's what T-mobile says: "The T-Mobile Internet Manager does indeed not work with an embedded simcard device. However there should be a software program available from your laptop manufacturer which you can use to fill in the T-Mobile APN settings. After filling in the right settings you should be able to use our network with only the sim1 code." 1. Is this information correct - does Lenovo have such software?2. How can I get it? I'd appreciate anyone's advice on this.

Answer:T-mobile internet simcard does not work without dongle - Lenovo software to work around this?

HiThe answers for your questions depend on the OS installed on the laptop. Anyway, broadband connection might work w/o special network operator or the 3rd party connection manager, just the Windows built-in capability is enough. But more important question is whether your laptop has built-in wwan card installed, are there drivers installed, does the card work properly.Provide, please, your laptop MTM (Machine-Type-Model) or post here modem model.

I have a Seagate external disk that is permanently attached via USB. I use that disk to image my system with Norton Ghost, but I also have other files on there that I occasionally need to use. 90% of the time, however, this disk is just ideling.
I was looking for a way to switch it off during idle time and switch it back on when needed. Looking into power management, I did not find a way to cut power from an individual USB port - only from a whole hub, if at all. I also explored the option to "safely remove" it, but then I would have crawl under the desk to unplug/replug it for the system to reveive the interrupt for the disk to be recognized again.
So basically I am stuck with this problem. The main reason for disconnecting it would be to protect my Ghost images from malware. As long as it is running and accessable, a smart malware could damage the MFT or the directories and then all my images would be useless.
If anybody has an idea on how to deal with this problem, I would appreciate your input.

Question: mobile broadband

Hi all, i am a first time user to having a laptop, i want to get broadband for it and it to be pay as you go, what do you suggest. also someone told me a can connect it to my desktop broadband, how would i be able to do this if so it wouldn't be mobile would it?. i'm with virgin with my desktop computer.

Answer:mobile broadband

Hi and welcome to the forums.

I assume you live in the UK like me so I think I can help.

I use 3 mobile broadband which in my opinion is the best of the PAYG tariffs. You can buy a dongle which is the expensive bit or if you have an unlocked 3G phone which allows tethering you can use that if you know how to set it up.
You get 150MB of free data when you top up (minimum ?5 in store, ?10 online) plus it also works as a phone if you want it to.
This 150MB of data lasts 90 days or until you use it all up.
This means it works out you spend ?1.66 for 50MB of data every month, which if you have static broadband at your home should be enough. If you ever use more than this just top up more regularly.

For more info (and probably a much clearer explanation visit 3 - Pay As You Go - SIM Only - Free stuff - Free stuff with every top-up)

I don't know too much about Virgin medias mobile broadband but a good place to start would be here Mobile Broadband - Broadband - Virgin Media

Hope this helps, Oli.

EDIT: After reading your post more carefully, it sound like your do not have your Internet connection going into a Wireless router and then to your laptop and desktop.

This suggests to me that your Virgin Contract may be quite old as all new tariffs include a free Wireless router and setup, not to mention less to pay per month (I went down this road with BT, tripled my connection speed, got a load of free stuff and I now pay ?10 less per month.)
Have a look at http://allyours.virginme... Read more
