Preferred Solution: Acer Crystal Eye Webcam "unplugged"?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi everybody,

I suddenly lost the ability to connect to the internet through cable. I think it is related to the security update addressing a vulnerability in kerberus (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/3011780). I have no idea what it does, but I'm reasonably sure that it happened just after the update.

The network connection keeps cycling between "identifying" and "network cable unplugged" every 2-3 seconds.

I'm running windows 7 on an older lenovo laptop and I've tried rebooting, system restore, reinstalling the drivers, removing lenovo's connectivity program, uninstalling the security update manually but all to no avail.

A thread with a similar problem led me to try changing the "link speed and duplex" from "auto negotiation" to "10 mbps full duplex" under the advanced tab of the network connection properties, this gives me a network connection but no internet access.

Connecting the cable through the side of the computer changes nothing compared to connection through the docking station.

I can access the internet just fine through wifi.

Any ideas? Any help will be much appreciated. Thanks.

When my laptop is plugged in (Satellite C580-1KN) it says "fully charged 100%" but when unpluged it says "low battery 4%".

Does anyone know what the problem is?
Thanks!

Answer:Satellite C580 - plugged in says"Fully charged", unplugged it says "low battery 4%"

How old is your battery?

It could be possible that the battery does not work properly anymore…
You should know that sooner or later any battery will lose their efficiency.

So even if the battery charging notification says the battery is fully charged, the charging level could be very low…
In such case only the battery replacement could help you.

I have the Acer Aspire Notebook 5734Z-4725. I have had the black screen with the USB sound going off. I've been getting a pop up saying I can use a faster port but close it because I don't know about ports and don't want to screw up my computer and the pop up notice saying the camera is in use. I have deinstalled/reinstalled the driver. I have also done a system restore on the computer which set it back to factory settings that didn't work. As far as I can tell it is the same driver. Sometimes it seems to be working fine like the video will work but this is very rare and if I move my computer it puts my webcam back to a black screen. My webcam doesn't work with skype, ooVoo, msn, yahoo nothing.please help i'm so tired of it not working it has been like this over a month i have been on the internet for hours looking for a solution.

Answer:Acer Crystal Eye Crystal webcam isn't working

Do you have a recovery option to reinstall the driver. Note : This image is on a Sony Vaio laptop but more likely similar.Make sure you choose the similar feature if available and not use the restore to factory default as shown.

I've spent the last two or so weeks attempting to fix this problem. I'll explain it to the best of my ability. If you have any questions, I'll be happy to help you help me.

My problem started about 10 days ago. Prior to this date, my service would drop, not predictably, but enough that I can remember it. Comcast has insisted there is no problem and no other computers on the network experienced this problem, so I assumed it was something local. I never made a real attempt to fix it, however, because it wasn't a big enough problem to bother me. A simple reboot would fix the problem. The error would occur most often when I was downloading media and running another program that was accessing the internet. The problem would still occur without both happening at the same time, however, so I assumed that it was a coincidence.

10 days ago, I was on the internet, browsing. I left for an hour and upon my return, found the internet was disconnected. I rebooted and, instead of connecting, an error came up. "Limited or no connectivity." After several more restarts, I was connected, but it dropped out again, with the same error. I connected looked my Wireless card up and it connected to the network.

After several days, the wireless card came up with the same error. In addition, the error was still happening with the LAN connection and it would say the network cable is unplugged, when it is clearly plugged in. I would have assumed it was an error wit... Read more

Answer:"Network Cable is (not) unplugged" and "Limited or no connectivity"

just one statement, I used to have a wireless network and my computer although the closest to the router would have slow or no connetion and the others would be conected and working fine. I changed to wired on everthing for that reason...

I ran two Linux distrobutions on my computer (KateOS [didn't work, monitor didn't like something] and Ubuntu) I didn't install anything I was just having a look to see if I could make a partition smaller with it so I could then install one of the Linux OS's.

Anyway, my problem is that now I have stopped using the Live CD's and have gone back onto windows, it is saying that the Network Cable is Unplugged or some other message to that effect. I have done several things to try to get it working, but nothing has.

Here is what I have done so far:
I restarted the computer several times
I reinstalled the drivers of the Ethernet socket thingy. (It's built into the motherboard)
I did a system restore and then un-restored it after that didn't work
I disabled the Ethernet socket thingy in device manager and then enabled it again
I unplugged the router from the power and plugged it back in again
I unplugged the ethernet cables at both ends and reconnected

That's all I can remember doing at the moment, but I may have done one or two things extra to these. The only thing I can think of doing extra to this would be reformatting the harddrive and reinstalling windows, which I'd rather not do. I do not know if the ethernet socket thing works in Linux or not but I could try it out if you think it will help. The device manager on windows says it is running correctly but I still get the Network Cable Unplugged message pop up every so often. I get n... Read more

Hi everyone I'm at my wits end! I cannot get my webcam to work. I have tried numerous options posted in different forums and on websites but nothing seems to work. Even when I went to the Acer update driver search site. When I added my model number I got about a dozen driver options but as soon as I put in my OS Windows 7 (64 Bit) it came back with no drivers. I've noticed in a number of forums that peoples webcams where working fine in Windows XP but when they updated to Windows 7 they lose the ability for their computers to find their webcams. Is this an inherent problem with Windows 7 and is there anyway to fix it short of buying an external webcam. Surly there must be a way to get it to work !!!

Uninstall:

I have reloaded a dozen times and no matter what I do the app eventually crashes. I have seen it discussed on other forums and nobody seems to have a grasp on this one. I am running Vista Home Pro on an
Acer extensa 4420 w/dual athlon 1.9 processors, 2 gigs of ram and an
ati graphics/chipset. The "EYE" runs on an enhanced pci to usb port, it depends on ffdshow to work as well, but I have not been able to find which ffdshow specs are correct for the camera.

So far,
wrong ffdshow codec, no "EYE"
too many USB connections, no "eye" (keyboard, mouse, and external HD)
Acer's original install driver and app "no eye"
Acer's updated driver and app "no Eye"

Does anybody have a clue about this?

Please help.....frustration level is high. Everything else works well and this laptop is quite fast...too bad that Acer doesn't seem to care. I sure won't buy another ACER product.

I can't find the driver for my model Acer. My laptop is the Aspire M5-583P, but when I check the list of available driver downloads, I don't see any for the Crystal Eye.

Answer:Re: Using Acer Crystal Eye Webcam

In this case, check if your Windows Update is set to automatic downloading and installing updates. If it is not set already, it is recommended to allow Windows to automatically download and install updates. Keeping Windows up-to-date can resolve most of the errors you may face with device drivers and other areas. To know more about this, the following link can be helpful:http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-8/windows-update-faq You can also try the following steps if the above option does not work:1. Right-click 'Start' and go to 'Device Manager'.2. Check if your webcam is listed under the list of devices.3. If yes, then click on it and go to 'Drivers' tab.4. Check if you are able to update the drivers from here.5. If the drivers are not able to update from here too, you can consider using the option of 'Roll Back Driver'.If the issue still persists, you are advised to contact Acer through the following link for further assistance:http://us.acer.com/ac/en/US/content/contacts Hope this will help you.

Aspire E14 (E5-473G-32HE) did not come with Acer Crystal. It only have a webcam that can not be turned-on. I checked driver and it shows only HD Webcam Installed correctly. Yet can not be turned on and the turned on settings can not still turn on the camera. LINE and Skype says "camera canot turn-on". The ridiculus part is, acer driver support does not even support the camera hardware. I cant find a webcam in their driver list downloads.

Answer:Re: Using Acer Crystal Eye Webcam

zeexui,

There should be a driver listed under the imaging devices section of the Device Manager. Try removing the driver and restarting to let the operating system reload it.

Hi all,

I've only just got my new laptop and I thought i'd test out the webcam on it.

It has a Crystal Eye made guy Acer built in but I've come across an issue.

It seem that when i record a video the sound isn't sync'd up and it also seems he video is playing faster then it should be.

I've tested it a few times and noticed that the sound wouldn't start at the same time as the video playback but then the motion in the video was actually faster then it should be.

Anyone got any ideas?

Thanks

I have an Acer Aspire 7551G-7606 and recently had to replace my HDD and used one from my old HP laptop (it had the same version of Windows 7 Home 64x and I registered it with the Acer's serial). When I went to Acer's site to download the drivers I needed, the webcam software that originally came with the computer gave me an error upon the install setup saying that it couldn't recognize/find the webcam and asked me to plug it in. It's kind of perplexing since the webcam is physically built into the laptop. Is there some reason why replacing the harddrive would make the software unable to find the webcam and is there a way to fix it so I can actually reinstall it? Thanks.

Edit: The webcam does show up in the DM as "1.3mp HD Webcam" and it says that the driver is up to date and that it's functioning properly.

I have just bought an acer aspire 8920 with a built in crystal eye web cam. It originally had vista premium on it but as it was bought in Spain it was in spanish so I upgraded to vista ultimate to get it into english. Everything is working fine except my webcam.

I used to be able to use the īcamera controlsīin the control panel of the webcam but now these controls are all greyed out and the picture is very grainy.

I have re-intalled all the lastest drivers and software I can find and still nothing works. I have restored all the system using the eRecovery system and checked it whilst it was still in the spanish vista premium state and still it didnīt work properly.
Can anyone help in restoring this back to its original condition.

It is an integrated webcam. I tried going to the acer support website where I specified my exact computer, model, and such and downloaded all three setups for the webcam but they all had the same error; something along the lines of "no camera detected" or "no camera is plugged in". I recently purchased an Acer Aspire 150-1570, and have been very happy with it ...until today.

The PC comes with a built-in webcam, Acer's "Crystal Webcam". Haven't had any problems with it.

I'm running Windows XP Home and recently did a windows update.

Today, however, when I went to use it, I immediately got a "Blue Screen of Death" from Windows, with the following Stop error:

0x0000007E
0xC0000005
0xEC171B86
OxEBFCF9FC
0xEBFCF6F8

snp2uvc.sys - Address: EC11A90B base at EC111000 Datestamp 47009ae

This is one of the driver files for the crystal webcam
dated 5/16/08 v5.8.33.1

Thinking that this was a driver problem, I uninstalled the device and reinstalled the latest version of the driver which I downloaded from the ACER website. That didn't cure the problem. I then tried to restore the driver back to the original driver version that came with the PC when I bought it - same result. So, now I'm kind of stumped.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I am running Windows XP SP3, fully updated, on an Acer lap top PC.

I have several folders full of .mp3's and want to see the bit rate and duration. To do this I right click on a column heading and select "Bit rate". I then click on "More..." so I can get to "Duration", and I select that one too.

The two new columns appear, but the format of the "Duration" column appears to be "hours:minutes", so I see "00:04" or "00:03" for most .mp3's, when what I want to see is 'hours:minutes:seconds", e.g. "00:03:45".

This also happens for video files (.avi files), e.g. all my episodes of "Heroes" (sad, I know) have a duration of "00:42" instead of "00:42:xx".

Here are two pictures showing the problem with the .mp3's. The first is of Explorer showing the Duration as "Hours:Minutes":

The second picture is of the properties window of the first .mp3 in the list above:

On my network card I have a "a network cable is unplugged" messege. The cable is plugged in. I first got this messege after installing Fedora Core 3 on a seperate partition. Since it the internet connection didn't work I took Fedora off and Re-Installed Win XP Home edition. I have this running off a router; the router is connected to another PC, running SuSE linux. I had this same problem on the other computer, but I fixed it after installing SuSE and tweeking. (bad luck). I think something got messed up in either the re-sizing of the partition (111gb to 85gb) to make room for Fedora. All I have on the computer now is XP home. I need XP, It is a shame that 3d games dont run on linux, even though I like linux and am using it to type this messege. By the way. I had both of the computers working fine off the same internet connection after i fixed the old one and before i messed up the new one.

Answer:" A network cable is unplugged" loss of internet after adding Fedora 3

Does the network link light turn on on the router and the NIC in your computer?
If not then you have a problem with the cable and/or the hardware. Operating systems, partitions, etc has nothing to do with it.

Every few minutes, I am told that "Local Area Connection : A network cable is unplugged." This message comes up when you unplug your internet cable from your computer, but i am not unplugging it! As a result, my internet goes in and out. I bought a new cable, but this did not help. I unplugged my computer and connected a laptop into the wall jack instead, and the laptop internet connection was fine. So the problem has to be with my computer. I have run all of the spyware and virus removal tools found in the malware forum, and I think my system is clean. Is this virus related? What can I do??? Thanks for your help

Answer:Help! internet connection constantly failing. "A network cable is unplugged"

Has this always been a problem with this computer or is this something new to a computer that has worked well for some time.

If this is something new you may have a failing network card or a bad connection. If the NIC is not integrated, try shutting down the machine and removing the NIC. Use a pink pencil eraser to LIGHTLY clean the gold connections along the bottom and on both sides of the card then reinstall it to the same slot and try it. If that doesn't work, try another NIC if you have one.

I am a total newcomer so please keep it simple.
I have recently purchased a 3Com Office Connect ADSL wireless 11g firewall router that came in a bundle wth a 3Com Office Connect PC card. I use a laptop with WIN 2K Pro, and being fed up with the dial up I signed up for ADSL and bought the above modem/router to add wireless capability to my laptop.
I have been trying to set up the router an the connection using the 3Com on line wizard: it all proceeds well, the connection status say 100% strenght, everything fine, then suddendly I get the message "Status: Network cable unplugged" and I can't go any further with the wizard, never mind trying to connect using the ADSL service. Then after a while the connection reestablishes itself to then disconnect again and so forth, every connection/disconnection lasting approximately just over 1 minute.
I checked thorougly manual, manufacturer web site, sought for every possible clue, I still can't get the thing to work. After that I will have to figure out out to get on the Internet!

Can anybody help?

Answer:Local Area Connection: "Network cable unplugged" but I'm wireless!!

Most wireless routers need to be directly connected to a pc during setup, so that you can configure it properly. Does your laptop have an integrated network port, or a NIC pc card? If so, you need to plug an ethernet cable in to the laptop & router. The error you're getting is due to the wizard not finding a physical connection to use at this point.

Hi all

I've recently had my internet failing on me. I've got a BT Home Hub which i use to connect my computer to (specs in signature) via onboard LAN, as well as my housemates computer and XBox 360 via wireless. Everythings been fine for about 1.5 years but recently after installing a new OS (XP home) on a new hard disk (about 2 weeks after this new setup) ive had the computer tell me that the "network cable is unplugged" when i boot up. Theres nothing wrong with the cable which is slotted properly, or with the onboard LAN (device details says everything is working properly). After 5 minutes or so itll look up an IP address and connect (sometimes itll take a bit longer). its probably not the new installation but i have re-installed a Samsung DVD-ROM drive and MS Office 2003 with the downloaded updates - could these have messed up the onboard LAN somehow?

Its quite annoying that this is occuring since i cant find everything that is obviously wrong, any suggestions would be much appreciated!

my onboard LAN is a Murvell Yukon Gigabit Ethernet 10/100/1000Base-T Adpater, Copper RJ-45

Answer:internet problem with ethernet connection - "network cable is unplugged"

In correct settings will give you the same error message. Back track your setup... Remove and reinstall everything, then force a reset by pressing the reset buttton in the back of the cable modem, and the routers, and reboot.
If your devices are all from the same manufacturer, their disc will usually fix them all.
Also, your internet provider can tell a lot by looking into your system from their tech support bench in Las Vegas.

I recently upgraded a computer that i haven't used in a couple years to XP SP2 from WinMe after the upgrade i installed all the new drivers and a wireless card. The computer is a compaq persario desktop. The wireless card when installed says it is working and connects to the router with no problem but when an explore is open it fails to bring in the information
I then patched in a cable and the internet works but with a constant pop up that LAN2 is Unplugged. the connection speed is very slow and constantly asked if i want to work off line.
I have ran several virus scan on the computer and picked up several Trojans that i think i have taken care of but yet the problem persist. I have tried the patch cables on other computers around the house and they all work fine. So the cables are fine(I have tried 3 different cables.) I have searched the forums for solutions but have yet to find one that would work with the computer.

Hello dear community

Now i've tried to fix this error myself for countless of days, this quite common problem.

The error is following: My computer now and then doesnt recognize that i've got a ethernet cable plugged in to my computer.
The internet work all times on all of the other 3 computers in the home network.

OS: win 7
NIC: intel r 82566dc-2 gigabit network connection

I've tried to disable IPV6 adress, updated drivers and some other stuff, And when I tried the option to change the link/duplex from auto to fixed it worked. Sometimes it worked at 10mb, then it lost connection to the cable and I changed it to 100/ 1 gig and it work again. And when 100/1gig didnt work i changed back to 10 aso. This worked for about 1-2 weeks. Then suddenly it couldnt find the cable in neither of the options.
So I tried the good old plugg out modem, router + computer and let it be offline for some hours and then put it on again. I tried this several times each day for a week (changed to all varies of duplex each time). Then suddenly it worked again, for 5 hours, then it died AGAIN.
Now ive been cut from the internet for some days on my desktop computer again. Needless to say im getting pretty frustrated.

So after this time I give up, I need you expert help. Do you have any clue what to do?

Best wishes
Simon

Hello, so I downloaded hamachi the other day to play with some friends on GMOD and I was finished with hamachi so I decided to un-install it, after doing so, I noticed Google Chrome, Mozilla, Steam and many more applications can't connect to the internet, but Internet Explorer 64 bit is able to connect... I don't know how to fix this and I've done a bunch of research on many ways to possibly fix it but none have worked so far... I use a wireless usb for my wireless connection, it works perfectly fine but my Local Area Connection keeps saying that one message and I just wanna fix it :/ please help?

Answer:Local Area Connection "Network cable unplugged"

and welcome to the Forum

Lets take a peek at your network environment:

First:

Power Cycle everything . . Turn off the Modem, router and all pc's . . turn on the Modem and wait a few minutes for the lights to stabilize . . then turn on the router, then one pc at a time. See if you connect to the internet.

Then:

Remove all the stored wireless network profiles and search for the network again.

How to Remove Stored Wireless Network Profiles for XP, Vista, and Windows 7

Then: check your browser's settings, remove any proxy settings if found, here's how

Then:

with the pc connected to the router, Click on Start . . Run . . type CMD

At the > prompt type or copy and paste the following command:

ipconfig/all > 0 & notepad 0

and press enter.

Come back here and Paste the results in a message.

If you are on a machine with no network connection, use a floppy, USB drive, or a CD-R disk to transfer a text file with the information to allow pasting it here.

then please Download and run this Xirrus WiFi Inspector, click the Networks link on the upper left and paste a screen shot of that screen here. Note that this application requires NET Framework to run. If you get an error about a missing function, download and install NET Framework.

Hey guys,

First of all, I would like to say that I am an IT tech, so there's no need to explain everything in details. I'm posting here, because I'm having trouble with some hardware compatibility that happens only with Windows XP Service Pack 2c , and not SP2.

I might as well post this in the Hardware subforum.

According to Microsoft, there's nothing that was added to the OS, other than a new range of license keys. But for what I can see, there's definately something different other than that in the OS.

Here are some specs of the systems I am using.

ASUS P5K-E (onboard Marvell Yukon 88e8056)
Intel PRO/1000 GT (plugged in the third PCI slot)

Ok, let's explain this crazy bug:

Once the Intel PRO/1000 GT drivers are installed, the Marvell Yukon 88e8056 will stop working. It'll say "Network cable unplugged", even if there's a cable connected. The NIC LEDs are still actives, but Windows won't detect the network cable anymore.

It's looks like the Intel drivers are corrupting the Marvell ones.

Here's what I am tried and verified:

- The devices are on different IRQs

- I plugged the Intel PRO/1000 GT in the third and second PCI slots, so that both card would not share the same bus (First PCI slot shares the same bus with the onboard Ethernet controller)

- I've updated both devices to their lastest drivers.

- I've uninstalled-reinstalled both devices drivers.

- I've tested my network cables, a... Read more

Has anyone else seen this problem?

I clean-installed Windows XP SP1 (from an OEM disk) onto a new hard disk yesterday, and immediately upgraded directly to SP3.I have a cable internet connection through a Netgear router. Modem connects to the router input, the computers connect to the router outputs. Other computers are connected to the router and they're working fine so I know the problem isn't with the router or connection.I can switch back to my old hard drive with the original installation of Windows XP SP2  (by swapping the Molex and IDE cables back to it), and the internet works fine, exactly as before, so I know the cables are functioning and the PCI card is seated correctly. It has to be something inside the new Windows installation that's causing this problem, I just don't know what or where to look.Once the XP installation and update to SP3 finished on the new drive, I installed drivers for my sound card and then installed Zonealarm firewall (although I hadn't connected the ethernet cable yet).I didn't install any of the drivers for the motherboard or chipset. So it would be using the default ones that Windows XP already has, right? There are two ethernet ports on my system - one on the motherboard, the other a PCI card. In Device Manager, the ethernet port on the motherboard is VIA PCI 10/100mb Fast Ethernet Adapter. The addon is D-Link DGE-530T Gigabit Ethernet Adapter.I have always used the D-Link port. I can't remember why the people who built my computer add... Read more

Answer:Ethernet port - XP says "network cable is unplugged" when it's plugged in

Check first your PCI 10/100mb Fast Ethernet Adapter if its working on cable plugged to the modem/router. However i'm not sure about D-Link DGE-530T Gigabit Ethernet Adapter capabalities on the internet compared to your  PCI 10/100mb Fast Ethernet Adapter. They still both need to be plugged anyway. As for your OS from SP1 to SP3, it may not be an issue depending on restoring correct drivers. SP2 is much preferred.

Hello :confused

I posted this in Drivers forum but now realize after updating all my drivers etc; it is more of a Hardware issue. Sorry.

I have an extremely bizarre problem.

I recently bought an eMachine with onboard RealTek HD sound...

I'm running Vista Home Premium.

Even with speakers unplugged, and audio devices muted/disabled;
My computer insists on making low bass type noises when I game.

Even with the game sound options off, and the built in monitor speakers' audio feed cables never plugged in.

Is it possible that I am getting some kind of feedback? I do have a Klipsch 5.1 woofer under my computer desk, but I even pulled its power cord.

These noises are so annoying and bass oriented, I can't use my computer late at night (I live in an apartment with sound curfews), and there are no speakers/output devices plugged into ANY jack at all!

Is it possible to get feedback like this perhaps from my monitor's built in speakers? This problem is driving me berserk!

Basic Specs :
3.17ghz AMD Athlon X24050e
nVIDIA GF 6150SE onboard GPU
3GB DDR2 RAM
Hannspree LCD 22" monitor w/ built in speakers..
-also; a dormant Klipsch 5.1 4 speaker satellite system w/ subwoofer that has NOT been hooked up in any way-

Thanks in advance for any ideas or theories.

I have purchased an older IBM Thinkpad that has been upgraded to Windows 2000 Pro. When I am in range of a known public Wi-fi network, or nearby to my home QSL modem (that has a built in router), the computer does not indicate that it has located an available network. This is when using, separately, both a Wi-fi card and a USB wireless adapter. (I have installed the required drivers.) When I consult the network connection information, it says, in either case: network cable unplugged. I can connect to the Internet via my home modem, if I plug the computer in directly, using an ethernet cable. But this does not solve the issue of being able to use a public network, when away from home.
I have also tried to set up a new network, but Windows 2000 does not seem to offer "setting up a wireless network" as an option. Any ideas?

Hello, I've been searching up and down for a solution to the issue I've been having with my network for the past couple months now with no luck, and I'm hoping someone here may know what the issue is...

Here goes, after moving 3 months ago and switching from a cable connection I had for years without issue, and going to Verizon DSL (after ironing out all the bugs I had with it in the first place), now my computer constantly loses it's local area connection, with the icon showing in the bottom tray saying "a network cable is unplugged." I know I have no issues with my modem or wired router as my Xbox360 doesn't lose connection. Whenever this happens I have to go into network connections and disable and enable the connection before it connects again, then it doesn't last long before it does it again. I've tried changing out the cable, so shouldn't be a bad cable. Tried switching firewalls and playing around with settings with it, no luck. Is this the sign of a bad NIC? Or more likely some system settings deep down somewhere (which I pretty much have no experience with)? It's driving me nuts as I can't get anything done!

Thanks for your time and pleaseeee help! =)

That thing about programs using the drive happens a lot with my Toshiba lappy.
Unless you've changed any of the default hardware policies for the external drive (most of them won't even allow you to), unplugging without ejecting should not be a problem. Nevertheless, whenever you are unable to eject, it is better to wait till you turn off the computer before unplugging.

Okay I could really use some help with this issue. Ever since I first got my computer I have had problems with connecting to the interenet.

The first time I hooked up my computer to the LAN i already had, a message kept saying "Network Cable Unplugged", but it was NOT unplugged. I called customer service for EMachines (that's what my computer is) and they walked me through a few things but nothing worked. So I brought my computer to CompUSA and told them what it was doing and they checked it over and said nothing was wrong with it, but that they did something to the network bridge. When I got it home and tried connecting to the internet again, it worked.

Then I lost my internet connection and I haven't had this computer hooked up to internet for a couple of years. I brought it to my friend's house to get some updates for my software and drivers and it worked as soon as I plugged it in. Internet and all. However, when I rebooted my system to ensure that all the new updates would take effect it suddenly wouldn't let me access the internet. It was doing the same thing as before!

It says that my Lock Area Connection 2 is enabled and plugged in but it says that my Network Bridge is unplugged. I'm not on a network. The three computers in the room are all connected to the internet through a router, but they aren't networked together. I just switched one of the LAN cables from one computer to another one, so I don't understand w... Read more

I've been having an ongoing problem with MSN Messenger causing my internet to stall intermittently and I'd really like to see if I can get it resolved.

A few minutes after I run and connect to MSN, my internet will stop working momentarily, and my systray will show my Local Area Connection as "network cable unplugged" or something... and then it'll go away and everything resumes.

I reconnect my MSN Messenger (which has since been disconnected) and a few minutes later the same will happen again and kill all my internet activity with the same "network cable unplugged" message (or sometimes I may get "no connectivity" problems or something).

After a few rounds of disconnecting/reconnecting, things will seem to stabilize and I can actually use my MSN Messenger without it completely disrupting everything every few minutes, but the problem will occur all over again in the future if I ever ran MSN again.

Anybody know what's up? Thanks for the help!

Please help! Recently whenever I browse eBay listings (to see item details) I get a "Network Cable Unplugged" error and lose my internet connection. If I wait ~30 secs to 1 minute, my connection comes back all by itself. If I navigate away from the eBay pages, I have no further troubles but if I continue to try and browse eBay listings, this error continually pops up. I have checked my cables, modem, router and ISP service. These are all functioning properly. I run a Playstation 2 off of this router as well, but the network cable unplugged error comes up regardless of whether that is in use or completely shut down. This problem is specific to viewing eBay listings. This does not happen on any other websites except eBay. Very weird. I am running Windows XP Home. Installation of SP2 did not solve this problem. In order to try to remedy this I have deleted cookies and my internet cache, run many anti-virus and spyware programs and come up with nothing. I have all windows and driver updates, I have tried disabling my firewall, and I have even tried a non IE browser. Nothing works! I'm beyond frustrated at this point...I'd appreciate any advice you can give!

After installing the 5308 Vista Build..and everything was working fine (except no audio, coz didnt found any working drivers for my sound card)...
I rebooted in XP
where i got a message saying: "network cable unplugged"
but everything was well conected and internet was working well in vista

I tried the following:
-system restore (nothing changed)
-i went into device manager, my network adapter was working fine, i re-installed my network drivers.. nothing changed either
-as someone on a forum suggested.. i disabled 2 services, UPNP Device Host and SSDP Discovery Service...nothing came out of that either
- i tried resetting the BIOS in case vista changed something.. nothing either

Here is some info on my setup..
I installed vista with a clean install, on a separate hardrive from where XP was..
And I have a lan at home, so my comp is plugged in my wired router..

I googled my problem but I only found a few ppl with the same issue as me after they had installed vista, but they did not have much replies..

Any suggestions on what I could try.. if not then at least what are my options?
can i reinstall xp over xp, or maybe "repair it", i dont wanna lose everything i have there tho..or maybe.. would it fix the problem if i uninstalled vista?

Thanks

This worked fine before on this laptop but now it don't!
I've enabled compatibility mode via netsh but I still get "network cable unplugged" on MAC Bridge Miniport immediately after I create the bridge.
The wireless network works just fine when I remove the bridge.
I have the latest drivers and SP.

Ideas?

Are you using a router?

This would be the way ahead. They are quite cheap now and are wireless.

The other way would be to go into options and allow other computers to access the internet through your computer.

Hi
Please help. I have a band new PCwhich was working fine yesterday.
but today I come to use it and the sound has vanished.
I go through all the checks (the speakers work still, its not muted, correct ones are selected, all the drivers are ok and upto date) so I run the trouble shooter.
The answer it comes back with is that the Speakers/headphones are unplugged.
But they are not unplugged they are exactly the same as when it worked

What do I do now?

Hello! I have searched everywhere to find an answer to this, and although I have encountered posts on various sites re: similar problems, I have seen no one with my exact problem.

I own a Dell Dimension with Windows XP. It is networked with my roommate's computer via a Netgear Cable/DSL Web Safe Router. My internet connection was working just fine until I bought a Canon PIXMA MP780. I connected the printer to my computer via a USB2 cable and kept getting the "Network Cable Unplugged" error. (I double-checked - it wasn't.) So I'd unplug the USB2, the network connection would be fine.... I'd plug it back in, and would get "Network Cable Unplugged" again.

Not wanting to have to choose between having internet access or using my printer (without unplugging and plugging in cables), I tried to fix the network cable unplugged problem. I'd let the computer try to "troubleshoot" my lack of connectivity and kept getting, "Invalid IP Address" messages. I'd bring up my MSN Messenger window and sometimes when that would troubleshoot the disconnection problem, it would tell me that my IE was set to "work offline" and did I want to change that? When I'd hit "Yes", I could then connect via MSN Messenger, but it would never last long. However, through all of this, I could print without a problem.

Now, no matter whether my printer's USB2 cable is plugged into the back of my computer or not, I ... Read more

Hi, I searched around for a while and all of the issues involving this statement are not my problem. Basically I have a working, though recently run, cat 5e cable outlet to my room. It works perfectly with the laptop I am typing on at the moment, so the wall socket and the cable itself are fine. When I plug this same cable into my desktop all I get is the "a network cable is unplugged" line. There are no lights on the card in the back, and yes it is a pci card. A few days ago, as I pulled out one of my usb devices, something may have arc'ed and the whole pc shut down. Ever since, the networking card does not function, as described. I grabbed another card from my parents house and threw that in, hoping that the original card had just been fried, but that did not solve the problem. The new card was correctly detected by windows and is supposedly opperating correctly. I am stumped and was hoping somebody could shed some light as to what may have gone wrong, and if so, how I might fix it. There is no trace of anything else being wrong other than neither network card lights up and no attempt is made to get an IP address from my router.
Thanks for any help and sorry for being long winded.

Answer:"A network cable is unplugged"; only, not your average issue

You might try rebooting the router while the pc is hooked up and powered. I had a similar issue with my cable modem not giving me any connectivity when i built my new machine. It is probably considering the new card as a new device and not seeing it.

I installed a new printer (HP deskjet 6500 series) on one of the networked computers in our office yesterday and set it up as a shared printer. Ever since then, said computer cannot connect to the network ("network cable unplugged" error). Prior to installing the new printer, everything was working fine. I have tried rebooting the computer, uninstalling & unplugging the printer & restarting, unplugging the network cable and restarting & then plugging back in, and rebooting our entire network. Nothing so far has worked. I'm thinking about using system restore to revert the computer to the way it was prior to installing the printer. But, I've never used system restore before, so I'm a little wary. Anyone have any tips regarding that or other reasons for this problem? Thanks!

Hi

Thanks

Answer:"network cable unplugged" in XP after vista install

IF you are a member of the Microsoft Beta there are specific forums and channels for this material where you can find help. Discussions which would violate NDA's are against the rules.

With that said, if you are getting a cable disconnected message (in any OS) yet things are working correctly... it is most likely just a driver issue. The driver you are currently using is reading the hardware incorrectly thus telling you it is disconnected. Look around for updated ones or get a third party card that you know will be supported by your OS.

Let's start at the beginning...
In early November I broke my collarbone which resulted in my being out of work since. Being unable to really sit in my office at my desk (plugged directly into the modem as I typically am via ethernet), I moved my laptop downtairs and began using the built-in WiFi. For little things like checking e-mail, that was just fine, however, because the only good place to sit in my house had a crap signal, the connection would drop constantly and, being the built-in was only 3G, it was slow as dirt compared to what I was used to. After a couple weeks, I simply couldn't take it anymore and went to Amazon to pick up something that could handle 5G. I settled on an "LTERIVER" 1200Mpbs Dual Band Wi-Fi Adapter. The day it arrived was simultaneously fantastic and the bane of my existence since.

I plugged the little adapter into a USB 3.0 port and instantly Windows took care of the rest. STUPIDLY, however, I thought to myself "I wonder if it'd run even better if I installed the driver package that came with it." That was over a month ago and I've been quite literally troubleshooting since.

In short, the driver package (which it turns out is Realtek, just like the built-in Ethernet), included a Wi-Fi management utility. You know, the sort of software that attempts to take over for Windows in managing your connection. Thing is, it didn't work. When it'd launch, it would just blink over and over at me as if it was trying to refresh something ... Read more

Ouch !!

Are there any unidentified devices in your device manager listing?

The lan adapter in the device manager, it says working properly. (Just asking)

With your new USB wireless adapter out of laptop, please shut off your built in wireless adapter. Likely one of the F keys, older laptops have physical switch front or side. Reboot with cable in.

Still no luck, look inside port, on laptop, with a small light. There should be eight pins. One might be stuck up or out of place.

Hello,

I am setting up a network beetween two computers in my home. This is a text layout of how it works.

>------in from cable internet---->NIC Card in Main Computer ------- Out through 2nd NIC Card ---- crossover cable to carry connection ----> client computer

I hope that makes sense, basically Im taking my home cable internet connection, and trying to share it with the other computer. Now I've ran the Network Setup Wizard, and all the settings are correct, but no matter what I get a "network cable is unplugged" problem. Now I have 2 NIC cards in my main machine, 1 that has the incoming net connection (which wortks perfectly) and the other which is supposed to send data to the toher computer. I used crossover cat5 cable to connect the outgoing NIC in this computer to the NIC in the 2nd machine. I know the cable is connected, and it is brand new, no possibility for error (unless the shop owner doesnt know how to prepare the cable right??). Also the 2nd NIC card in this machine is new, and has up-to-date drivers installed. I am completely baffled by this error!! If anyone has ANY idea what is wrong please reply or email me!

Thanks in advance!
-Dan

Answer:Networking Problem "network cable is unplugged"

I get this error on BOTH computers. Since there is only 2 computers we want to network we decided against going the way of a switch or hub and tried to keep it simple using just crossover cable. I took networking in school and have worked on networks upto 300 computers in size before, and Ive NEVER seen a problem like this before? Im seriosuly wondering if the crossover cable wasnt done correctly?

Last night, my internet was working perfectly and I closed my computer lid before going to sleep as usual. This morning, I wake up to use my computer and the internet isn't working. I check the icon at the top and instead of showing an empty wireless meter with an X over it, it shows a computer and a cable with an X over it, which isn't normal. My laptop is an Acer Aspire 5532 with a built in wireless adapter and it has a button near the power button that turns the adapter on and off. I decided to turn it off, give it a while, and turn it on, but that didn't fix it, so I restarted the computer. Now, when I try to turn it on an off, it gives the wireless symbol with a circled X over it. I have checked the device in Device Manager to see if it is working and it says it is working properly. So I uninstalled it, restarted and the computer automatically installed software like it should, but that didn't fix it. I tried a System Restore, but that didn't work as well. Another thing I should mention is that I have tried rolling back the driver (which didn't fix anything), then I updated it, which also didn't fix anything.
Is there anything else I should try? The only thing Diagnostics can detect is an unplugged cable, but it's built in, so it doesn't require a cable (I've had it for >1 year and this is the first problem I've had).

Edit: I downloaded Xirrus Wi-Fi Inspector and it says no wireless adapters can be found. I thin... Read more

Answer:Built-in Wireless Adapter's "Cable" is Unplugged

Welcome to TSG:
If the wireless switch does not turn the adapter on,I might suspect a wireless adapter gone South.
But,let's make sure that all necessary tasks are up.

Check your Services are Started on all PCs:
• COM+ Event System (for WZC issues)
• Computer Browser (computer browser will start when needed)
• DHCP Client
• DNS Client
• Network Connections
• Network Location Awareness
• Remote Procedure Call (RPC)
• Server
• TCP/IP Netbios helper
• Wireless Zero Configuration (XP wireless configurations)
• WLAN AutoConfig (Vista wireless configurations)
• Workstation

Note: You can check the services in Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Services.

All of these services should be started, and their startup type should be automatic
If a service is not running, open it's properties and check the dependencies. Check each of the dependencies and see which one is preventing the service from running. Checking the event log is also a good idea here, there may be clues to what is failing.

And I can assume that when you say "updated the driver" you downloaded the current driver from the Acer site ?

Does your user's manual give you any clues as to how,if at all,you can access the adapter and just check it for connections ?

My LAN was working fine yesterday and I have not touched it since but today, it's coming up as "Network Cable Unplugged". "A cable is not plugged in to the network adapter "Local Area Network" comes up when I try diagnosing the issue.

I have the cable running into my computer. This problem occured a few days ago but the cable was changed (brand new one) and whilst it did work for a short while, it is again showing up as "Network Cable Unplugged".

Please please help me out!

Answer:"Network Cable Unplugged" but it most definately isnt!

I must add, my laptop is a fairly new (March 2008) Toshiba and up to date I have not needed to use the LAN connection.

I am unable to go to Toshiba because I am in a foreign country (China) and dont speak the language.

Could it be to do with the hardware?

Hello,

I have a 3mb cable connection through a D-Link DI-624 (rev C) router and a D-Link DCM-202 modem. I use high quality CAT5E cables and the modem/router firmware are updated to the latest versions.

Just recently I've noticed that several times per day I'll get a Windows XP pop-up message "A Network Cable Is Unplugged" and then I'll be instantly re-connected. The sequence happens so fast that it really doesn't impair my internet access but it's kind of annoying and I'd like to get to the bottom of it.

Does anyone know what some of the likely causes might be?

Thanks,
-Mike

I just built a new computer with a i5 750 cpu, msi p55-gd65 motherboard, 4GB RAM and am having trouble connecting to the internet

Even though the LAN cable is plugged in and there is a link light, my computer still says that a network cable is unplugged.

I have vista if it matters

Ive updated all drivers, tried different cords. Also i tried the same cord in my laptop and was able to access the internet.

Answer:HELP: "network cable unplugged" message when the cable is not unplugged

When it shows unplug, are you able to get online? This could be 3 reasons. Bad cable, bad onboard NIC or bad switch. In my case this happen to me once. I had a bad linksys gigabit switch. I changed cables, try add-on nic but the problem was still present. I RMA it and sold it anyway. I now have Netgear 8 port gigabit switch.

with an icon of a computer with a red "X" over it. I do not know what a network cable is, or how it could be unplugged because my computer came with wifi. I cannot get it to connect to the internet at all.
My Dell Precision M60 recently had a computer virus, and I ran malware megabytes to try to fix it. Malwarebytes did clear my computer of the virus, but after a few days of running malwarebytes, my laptop gave me a message that it had to shut down to protect itself. It said that if I had recently changed any settings on the computer, that might be the cause of the shutdown. Everytime I turned the computer on, it would show the same message and then shut down again.
I brought it to a computer mechanic. He said that malware megabytes got rid of the virus, but probably mistook a good file as part of the virus. My computer seemed to be shutting down because of a the good file that malware megabytes modified.
I got my laptop back from the computer guy today. It seems to be fixed other than the fact that it won't connect to the internet at all. The first time I recieved the message, "Local Area Connection Network cable unplugged", was after I ran malwarebytes, but before I brought it to the computer guy. My laptop would often connect to the internet anyway, back then. I am wondering if malwarebytes might have changed the internet settings.
Does anyone know how to fix this problem? Thank you!

Answer:Dell Precision laptop showing message,"Local Area Connection Network cable unplugged"

If you don't have an ethernet cable connected then that message is normal. Since you apparently don't use it you can disable the connection in Network Connections to get rid of the nag.

It's impossible to guess what files might have been modified by the malware, the malware fighter, or the computer guy.

Does your wireless adapter appear under Network Adapter in Device Manager as OK? What, if any, warning or errors are there in Device Manager?

Assuming you are using an integrated wireless adapter is it switched on? Can you detect your network?

My wireless works fine, thus the post. Just can't connect to any of the four ports. Any ideas what the problem could be?

Had been working great for months. But all of a sudden (yesterday) - getting this message from "Net Connections." Ethernet, network cable unplugged (Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller). It's strange because it had been working. The PC has WIFI so it's connecting that way.

Seems like it's some kind of issue with PC itself - either hardware failure or driver corruption ? Would there be a problem with deleting the Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller in the Control Panel>Network and Internet > Network Connections - restarting and see if that fixes the issue.

My Inspiron 6000 laptop, with Windows XP Pro, has an interesting problem:
When I now unplug the AC adaptor from the back of the laptop, the little icon of the plug in the bottom right corner of the taskbar does not switch to a picture of the battery. When I highlight over it, it still says "On AC Power" as though it were still plugged in.

Even weirder, when i click the icon (or go thru control panel), and get to "Power Meter", it says the battery is not present, and that the current power source is AC power. But the battery is definitly present, as i am able to use the laptop under these conditions, and seriously, I dont mean i took the plug out of the wall only. The plug is not connected to the laptop and the above still happens. The only thing that recognizes the difference when the laptop is not plugged in is the little orange LED light just under the right side of the monitor. When it is plugged in, the light turns green.
Please help!

I am having problems maintaining a connection to my wireless network/internet. The connection starts with no problems, but after about 15 minutes, the connection is lost, and the status shows "network cable unplugged."

I currently have a Linksys Wireless Access Point (WAP11 ver2.2) with a Lucent/Orinoco (Silver) 11Mb 802.11b Wireless PC Card plugged into an IBM ThinkPad running Windows 2000.

I've kept the configuration simple:
- WEP=disabled
- no MAC access filtering
- open network
- Access Point sits 1 foot from laptop

I've tried changing channels, changing network name, un-installing then re-installing drivers and software. The signal strength is strong (when connected). I can't figure out if the problem is the wireless PC Card or the wireless Access Point.

Anyone run into this problem? tia.

i would like to remove the various ghost devices haunting my system such as various flash drives or usb printers or mice no longer in use (but still calling for a driver update)

Answer:[SOLVED] removing "unplugged" devices

To show devices that are no longer present in Device Manager:

Go to Control Panel | System
Click the Advanced tab, then click the Environment Variables button
Under the System variables section, click the New button.
In the Variable name: box type DevMgr_Show_NonPresent_Devices
In the Variable value: box type 1
Click OK, then click OK again on the Environment Variables window
In Device Manager, Click View | Show hidden devices

Any duplicate drivers, and drivers for devices not connected (USB Flash etc), will show up as "ghost" icons. Note that there are several items under Sound, video and game controllers that are normal to show as a "ghost" icon, such as Microsoft Kernel devices. Don't remove them unless they .
Under Network Adapters there will also be a RAS Async Adapter and possibly a Microsoft TV/Video Connection item, you can leave unless they are duplicated, in which case remove both.

External USB drives, Flash drives, and memory cards that are not connected will show as ghost devices under Disk Drives. Removing these entries won't hurt anything, but if you've assigned a specific drive letter to these devices, you'll have to re-assign the drive letter again. You may want to make sure those devices you use frequently are connected.

These ghost drivers also show if you boot to Safe Mode and check the Device Manager.

Hi you can certainly try uninstalling the driver & restarting. (Note, there is an option to also delete the driver, which means your PC has to download it again if you choose that as compared with installing from the driver already stored on you PC).

Presumably you've tried swapping the cable & router connection?

And go to the Computer Manufacturers support web site and download an updated driver for your Network Adapter and install that. If that still fails you may need to purchase a new PCI NIC card and install that.

Is the network card integrated into the motherboard or is it a PCI card and what model is the desktop (i.e Dell C521 etc) and what OS (operating system) are you running on the problem PC. Hello all, and thank you in advance (hopefully)

Well, last night I tried to get on the internet and it said, " Internet Cable Unplugged."

The problem with this is, it is actually plugged in. Currently i'm hooked up to a router (linksys) and all of my other internet connections ( my sister's laptop which I am currently on, and my ipod touch) connect perfectly.

I've had no power failures or any reason to believe this is a hardware failure ( I have a very good feeling this has nothing to do with hardware).

I've tried switching around cable cords such as mixing and matching from router to computer computer to router modem to router, etc. The funny thing about this is, when I try to direct connect my modem to my computer, it doesn't work, but when I connect it back into my router the internet seems to "jump start" ( for example, when I double click on my connection It actually shows "packets received/sent").

I think this has happened before, multiple times actually, and i've usually attributed it to not paying the internet bill, but i've called comcast and they have reaffirmed that I have actually payed, and this is not the problem.

There is a chance that this is a hardware problem ( being internet chords, router, modem, etc) but I STRONGLY disagree with this. Like I am 99% sure it has nothing to do with my hardware, because 24 hours ago my internet was running fine and all of a sudden it just stopped worki... Read more

Got a weird one here. I'm using:

1.) Windows XP pro
2.) Broadcom Netxtreme Gigabit adapter (integrated)
3.) system is IBM intellistation z pro, xeon based, scsi HDs etc..(more details if you think it's relevant)
4.) router = Dlink DIR-655
5.) DSL connection (sbc/ameritech)

In short, the network adapter CAN connect fine to the router and is able to surf the web, check email, etc. However, when i attempt to download anything of any larger size (like 10+ MB), or even load web pages/content in a rapid fashion, the network connection icon displays the "network cable unplugged" dialog box at the taskbar...connection is interrupted, then after a couple seconds connection is re-established. This happens only with this computer, not with the two laptops or the other 3 desktops. It seems that under higher load, or increased traffic (such as while downloading a file or loading 5-6 webpages in abot 20 seconds) the adapter hits a kind of bandwidth ceiling and resets.

things i have tried:
1.) updated to latest drivers
2.) flashed card with latest firmware
3.) tried setting all advanced options under 'configure' tab to different values...such as the negotiation setting (tried 10 full/half 100 full/half 1000 full auto and auto), checksum offload, MTU, flow control, WOL...etc etc.
4.) turned on/off OS and BIOS power management of network adapter
5.) enabled/disabled windows firewall
6.) enabled/disabled QoS, any sort of connection speed auto control settings ... Read more

I tried to connect to pc's (both running XP) with a cat5 cable via direct connection, but when I plug in the cable XP gives a message: "network cable unplugged".
The following may help:

1. I connected the 2 pcs via a hub and everything worked fine.
2. I connected the first pc (via direct cable connection) with my asus eee laptop (also running XP) and it worked fine. I also connected the second pc with my laptop and it also worked.
3. I also tried 4 other different cables, but with the same result (cable unplugged).

Both pc's are quite old (5years), both are freshly formatted (and not connected to the internet). Both pcs are virus free (checked with Bitdefender Total Security 2009 and AVG 8.0).

When i try to ping the other pc (when the 2 pcs are connected via direct cable connection), I get "Destination unreachable).
I have set up 100's of networks without a problem, but this thing is new.
I hope there is someone out there who can help. Thanx!!

Answer:Direct connection between 2 PC's. XP says: "Cable unplugged"

are you using a cross over connection - some new connections will auto detect, but older connections will not
