Would it be possible to turn my computer into a Gaming Computer?

Question: Would it be possible to turn my computer into a Gaming Computer?

Anyone have any idea how or if it's even possible to turn this into a gaming computer (MMO's mostly). The cheaper, the better (but I plan on doing this over a long period of time as opposed to quickly).

Preferred Solution: Would it be possible to turn my computer into a Gaming Computer?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

As the title said, my computer freezes during games. When it freezes the screen just stop at the last frame (so no black screen or anything like that) and I can hear the game for about a second before it turns to a low clicking sound. At which point I have to manually shut down the computer and restart it. Nothing else works. Then I get the usual question of how I want to start the computer, I always pick “start normally” and it’s like it never happened.

I think it’s because the GPU is overheating, because that’s the only component that’s really hot. When I check the temp while playing it’s usually building up to about 60C (24-30C on idle) and stays around that number. And it fells really hot when I touch it after it’s happened. The only problem with that theory is that I can play every game out there usually on the best setting (haven’t tried every powerful game out there) and not a single problem with lag or such. Then again, I’ve never had that problem with MW3, and the temp stays around 50C on that. Not to say that the GPU is really that great. It’s average at best, but I’m not a hardcore gamer or anything so figured I didn’t need the best.
I built the computer myself in June 2011. And it went fine without any problems until maybe 6 months ago, not really sure when it happened.

Here’s what I’ve done so far

Hey, i have Compaq Presario 7595 PC. I think this has a P4 processor. 512mb Ram, Win XP. Works fine, but I want something that can handle starcraft 2. Anyone know how I could get there, spending as little money as possible?

Answer:How Can I Turn My Computer into a Gaming Machine?

Your options with a compaq are very limited. Big box systems ie dell, hp, whatever are not really made for upgrading. You can add ram or a larger hd however when you attempt to add a high end video card, you run into multiple problems; cooling, pw supply, etc.

Next a p4 is at least 3 generations old technology; not much there to work with.

Your best option is to save your money and build a modern system. In short, it would cost you way more to attempt to upgrade such old technology. The only items you could use might be the optical drive and keyboard/mouse. You would need to replace the case, pw supply, mb, cpu, ram, video card, and hard drive.

If you are going to play high resolution games. I think you need to buy a new PC. You need to have at least a dual core PC with 1-2 gig RAM and 1gig Video card. The hard disc space dont need to be upgrade.

Hi, I am looking to upgrade my HP Pavilion 500-214 to run games smoothly. I am looking at upgrading my video card and power supply but, I am unsure on what is compatible with my current motherboard. I am very new to building a gaming pc and was looking for some insite. I was looking at getting a NVidia GTX 750 ti and upgrading to a gold rated power supply probably 600w. My utimate goal is to run games like GTA 5, Fallout 4, The Divison, So on so forth on HIgh or Very High Graphics. Your help would be very much appreciated! Thank you!

Answer:Turn HP Pavilion to gaming computer

@ATSweatt?, welcome to the forum. The best way to determine which video cards will do what you need is, run a search for each game that you want to play for system requirements.  This will tell you the Minimum Requirements and the Recommended Requirements.  For instance, Fallout 4 shows Minimum - GeForce GTX 550Ti and Recommended - GeForce GTX 780.  Since you want to play the games at high or very high settings, the Recommended Requirements would be what you need.  I like EVGA products.  Their Tech Support (1-888-881-3842) is very good.  I suggest contacting them to determine which is the best card for your system and needs.  They are the experts on their products. The power supply unit (PSU) is much easier.  Any standard ATX PSU will work.  I suggest measuring the existing PSU and comparing them to the one that you choose.  For either of the video cards above, a 600W PSU would be fine.  You should add at least 100W above what the video card needs to run properly.  This will give you extra power for peak times.  I like Corsair products.  A modular PSU is very good for smaller cases.  This allows you to use only the cables that are absolutely necessary. Now, I have given you a lot of information to consider.  I would like you to find the video card and PSU that you want.  Then, come back and we will discuss your choices.  This is the way... Hi, I have a problem with windows XP. Everytime I turn off my computer by clicking on "turn off computer," I receive an error message popup that states "Windows Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to be closed." After that pop-up message, the computer freezes for about a minute and goes back to its normal format (desktop) and the computer DOES NOT TURN OFF.

How do I turn off my computer without unplugging the computer? I try "ctrl+alt+del" to go to the windows task manager to "shut down" the computer but..the computer restarts again and doesnt turn off. Do I have a virus or a windows explorer problem? and how do i fix it? thank you

I use my laptop for school and, by keeping it on power saving mode, usually get through two school days without charging my laptop. Ever since I've downloaded Windows 10, (1) my computer doesn't shut off all the way when I close it, which drains the battery, and (2) every time I charge it, it turns off the power saving mode, which is really annoying. This is especially annoying when I don't notice it isn't on and my battery drains even faster. Is there any reason it won't turn off? Is there a setting I can use to keep the power saving mode on at all times?

Answer:Why won't my computer turn off all the way and why can't my computer stay on power saving mode?

Your system might have a virus, try to scan using Malwarebytes, Superspyware , Trojan-Killer. Restart your system then try to download Hitman Pro then Run it. Then optimize your system using Ccleaner. Hope this would help.

I am a naive person when it comes to exactly what computer Desktop I want/need.
I have had some bad luck with everyday type computers
I have been looking at gaming computers for everyday usage.
The Cyberpower Ultra GUA880- AMD FX-4300 Quad Core 3.8GHz, 8GB DDR3 RAM, 1TB HDD, 24X DVD, AMD R7 240 2GB, Windows 10 Home, a well built, long lasting and up grade-able computer for a person who wants the same for everyday usage?
Also, please advise if these types come with everyday software like Internet Explorer, and the "like"?

Answer:Gaming computer vs regular everyday computer

The desktop comes with a Windows 7 operating system as Internet Explorer is the default browser. These type of desktop usually has low quality power supply and the motherboard may be limited for your personal upgrade preferences. Most people look for customizing and asked for which hardware to purchase and assemble depending on their budget and intended programs to install.

Hi TheRealDanny.

The crash dump (a Stop 0x3B one) is not saying anything in detail about the probable cause of the BSOD).

Test your RAM modules for possible errors. How to Test and Diagnose RAM Issues with Memtest86+
Run memtest for at least 8 passes, preferably overnight.

If it start showing errors/red lines, stop testing. A single error is enough to determine that something is going bad there.
If it does not show any error, enable Driver Verifier to monitor the drivers. Driver Verifier - Enable and Disable
Run Driver Verifier for 24 hours or the occurrence of the next crash, whichever is earlier.

Why Driver Verifier:
It puts a stress on the drivers, ans so it makes the unstable drivers crash. Hopefully the driver that crashes is recorded in the memory dump.

How Can we know that DV is enabled:
It will make the system bit of slow, laggy.

Before enabling DV, make it sure that you have earlier System restore points made in your computer. You can check it easily by using CCleaner looking at Tools > System Restore.

If there is no points, make a System Restore Point manually before enabling DV.

Ok well, my computer is pretty old, but its not THAT old, it has always worked very well, and all of a sudden one day it froze and i tried turning it off but when i went to press the power button it wouldnt turn off, no matter how many times i pressed the power button. so i had to turn off the power switch in the back of the computer. it did this consistently so i decided to format my computer and delete the partition stuff like that, but it still did it, and i even virus checked and there were no viruses.

my computer freezes out of nowhere at random spots (startup, windows, my desktop, etc) and when i try to turn it off the power button doesnt work so i have to turn it off by turning off the switch at the back of the computer, please help me, i don't know whats going on!

Answer:URGENT PROBLEM: Computer freezes, but can not turn computer off

Try holding the power switch in for at least 4 seconds. There is a entry in BIOS for instant off and 4 second delay. Yours is probably set to 4 seconds. Delay is good as it prevents accidential power offs from hitting the switch by mistake.

If you are hiolding the switch in and it isn't powering down there are two possibilties. Switch is defective or connector has came off the header.

I am having trouble with a 6 month old IBM R51 laptop - when I select TURN OFF COMPUTER from within Windows and the START button - the computer sometimes hangs and will not shut down. I have to press the power button to reset. Any idea what could be causing this?

Answer:Computer Hangs When Turn Off Computer Selected In Windows

Welcome to BC! There are many possible causes, however there is one common cause. Often XP's exit sound file gets corrupt and if it does not run then XP won't shut down. I am not sure based on what you have told us so far if this is the issue or not, but let's see:Go to:Start > Control Panel > Sounds, Speech, and Audio Devices > Sounds and Audio Devices > Sounds tabUnder Program Events scroll down until you see Exit Windows. Highlight Exit Windows by clicking on it once. Then under Sounds choose None. Click Apply and finally OK. Reboot if possible, or shut down computer and restart manually. Once it is up and running, shut down computer by going to Start > Turn Off Computer. See if it will shut down on it's own now.If it does, the only difference will be that you will not longer hear the 2 seconds of music that XP usually plays as it shuts down.

i also recorded a video of how its sounds like:
so please help/B]

Answer:Solved: computer beeping sounds when i turn on computer

There are three possibilities here, all related to your memory.

1) You have forgotten to fit your memory back in.
2) Your memory isn't properly seated in its slot(s)
3) You have killed your memory because of not following antistatic procedures.

I'm suspecting it is either 2 or 3.

First of, my monitor exhibited signs of flickering during start-up, but only minor ones and would just stop at the 'Welcome' screen of windows so I didn't give it much thought. Iv'e been using it with the cpu the same time I bought the monitor.

But after some time, the flickering got worse. It went from 1-2 second interval flickers to a whole 10 seconds of blackness before it showed anything.

Now,Iv'e got a new cpu but still using the old monitor. After a day or so, the monitor exhibited the first symptoms of my first cpu, so I just dismissed it. But after a week, It got a hell worse, before I even start-up my computer, the monitor doesn't show Analog/Digital at the top-left corner of the screen. PLUS my cpu keeps restarting after I pushed the ON button after 10 seconds or so.

My question, Is the monitor responsible for the restart and what could be the reason for the flickering?

Thanks for a fast reply.

Welcome Pokeman5 to the windows 7 forums.

The graphics card might be your culprit. Please update your system configuration settings under user cp so that others can maybe help you.
Usually the monitor won't stop your machine from booting. The graphic card most likely be the cause.

There is also the possibility that your power supply could be defective or going bad. Lots of possibilities.

I just got this HP pavilion 762n last year. Now whenever I turn the computer on it won't respond(Goes to a Blank Black Screen) and the only way I can make the computer respond is to go to safe mode and UN-install the Graphic Card, then restart the computer back again. Once I've done that the computer would work, but I can't watch Videos or play Video Games on the computer. There also would be these little blue lines on the computer screen (Sometimes their would be alot of the lines and sometimes the lines would be made by the trail of my mouse).

I've tried lots of ways to fix the computer. I've tried:

- Un-installing and re-installing my graphic card (Nvidia Geforce4 MX420 graphics card with TV-Out) that came with the computer.

- Rolling Back My Graphic Card.

- Updating My Drive from Windows Update.

- I've tried using a program that test my computer and tells me whats wrong with it. It said I got a problem with something like the VIDEO MEMORY CARD and I don't know what that is.

Is the Only way I can fix this is to buy another Graphic Card. I do not want to waste $200.00. Please Help Me!

Thank You.

Hi all.
I moved out of a 14-year-old case (Gateway) and into an Ultra brand Gladiator mid-tower.

I have an EVGA nForce 650i Ultra Motherboard, and a "Power Up" brand 450-Watt power supply.

The setup worked fine in the old case, though Windows was freezing regularly after 15 minutes. I figured that was related to the hard-drive, since it wasn't tightly mounted, and I wasn't using enough cooling fans. So I got a new case and cannabalaized a fan from an old computer.

The power outlet and cord are good, and I swapped out the power supply with a 230 watt unit, and pulled the switch from the old case, but neither powered on the computer. Nothing seems out of the ordinary with the switch on the case I bought.

Did I buy a defective unit? Is there something I'm missing or should try again? Something else? Thanks for the help.

Answer:Changed computer cases, now computer won't turn on

Have you considered that going from a 450 psu to only a 230 might have something to do with it?

Is the motherboard shortening out by any part of it touching the case?

ok, so let me just throw my budget out here, est: $600

I'm not sure, i could be more or less thats just a rough idea.

MY NEED: I want it to be able to play games like HITMAN ABSOLUTION at 50% - 60% atleast. And i want it to be able to play grand theft auto v,

I need help in the costs of the parts im choosing, if it can be better then please suggest parts.

Any way, I need help in every aspect.

I know what RAM is,
Im going for 6 to 8 gb, will ddr3 do the job? how much will it cost?
I believe that a i5 should be okay, a 3.0ghz one?
its around $200 right?
Should i pick another one?
okay so currently I have in my laptop a Nvidia 410m.
Its an integrated card. I obviously want a dedicated one.
Im not sure which to pick, please recommend a card, hopefully from Nvidia.
What does 128bit, 256bit mean in GPUs?
And what memory should the card have? 2gb?

EDIT: i found this card,
its price is around $150, can i go for this?
at the time of purchase Im thinking about 2 250gb hdds because if i need more I'll simply attach more.
so thats not a problem.
I know s*it about these things. My plan is to tell my desired parts to the guy at the shop, from where im buying and getting it built (i'll just tell which parts I want). Then he'll just choose a good enough mother board for me? is this ok?
Did i miss anything? please help me

Answer:Building a Gaming Computer Gaming Low budget. Help.

The only thing that's missing is the power supply (the "PSU"), but we should wait until you select a CPU and video card - especially the video card. The PSU is an investment, so we have to make sure it's a good one.

Go for a 2 x 4 GB kit or 2 x 8 GB kit. Your only choice right now is DDR3. The cost can vary from roughly $50 USD give or take $10-$20 to almost $200 USD and more.

Which i5? 2nd Generation, 3rd Generation, or 4th Generation Core i5? The cost should be at around $200 give or take $10 to $20 USD.

Video card:

Try to avoid being loyal to one side or the other (NVIDIA or AMD) because some AMD GPUs are way better, but some NVIDIA GPUs are better.

The 128bit or 256bit is the bandwidth of the memory. The higher the number, the faster the memory can be in some ways.

The amount of memory you'd want is about 2GB, yeah. The more the merrier, but it mostly benefits textures.

You can go for any video card you want, but the GT 640 might not be an appreciable upgrade from the 410m. You'll notice it, but I dunno...

Yeah, this is a little bit of a personal thing because take me for example: I have two 60 GB solid state drives and it's all I need. One is for Windows and programs, and the other is for things like My Documents and even my desktop.

Like the power supply, the hard drive is a bit of an investment, so try to get good ones.

Not really. I would also like to see you build it instead of making someone do it for you.... Read more

I have a bit of a strange issue with my computer. Forgive me if I'm a little too descriptive, but I'm not sure which details are relevant and which are not for such a problem. First, the specs:

Model: eMachines T2984
Operating System: Windows XP Service Pack 2
Processor: Intel Celeron D Processor 340, 2.93 GHZ, 256K L2 Cache, 533 MHZ FSB
Power Supply Unit: Bestec Model: ATX-250-12E REV: P7
Motherboard: I can't tell, but it appears to be an Intel motherboard by the number of Intel labels on it
RAM: 512 MB DDR SD originally, added 1 GB a couple of months ago
Let me know if you need anything else...

Yesterday, I got home from shopping around 1PM, and I tried to start the computer. I pushed the power button, and nothing happened. I checked all of the cords, and they were all plugged in. Not knowing what else to do, I opened up the case to see if there was something obviously wrong. The only thing that I noticed (other than a bunch of dust) was that the power supply unit was still hot. I shut the computer down about 5 hours earlier after about 20 minutes of use, so it seemed strange that the power supply was still hot. I unplugged the computer just in case there was some sort of fire hazard.

At this point, I called a friend who suggested that the problem might be with the motherboard or the power supply unit.

A few hours later, I plugged it back in to try to get it to work. As soon as I plugged it in, the entire unit suddenly started "running" by itsel... Read more

Answer:Computer Doesn't Turn on, Fans and Some Lights Turn on Automatically

I would suspect that the Power Supply Unit (PSU) is going south. If you have a spare one laying around, install it and see if the problem goes away.
You can buy a new, better PSU from Newegg for about $40.00. I have used a Thermaltake 430 watt in one of my machines for some time now and it works well.
You will have to check the size of your PSU to be sure a new one will fit into the eMachine.
Here's the page with that PSU on it. It's the last one on the list.

Hello there, recently, I've been having an issue with my PC. Randomly, all peripherals (Monitor, Keyboard, Mouse, Speakers, etc.) turn off, but the computer stays on, and I need to turn it off by flipping the power off, and once I turn it back on, it boots normally and such. Like I said, the times this happens seem to be completely random, though I believe it has only happened at night, but that may be just coincidence. I have used virus scans, and nothing has come up, so I don't believe that's the issue. I haven't made any significant hardware changes recently either. Does anyone have an idea of what could be happening?

Get into the motherboards bios by pressing a key noted when you first power up the computer. Look for "hit F? for setup" or something like that. Reset the bios to defaults

I am using a client computer that is connected to a modem via a LAN cable which is in a neighboring house as far as about 50 meters. The host computer is there. The host computer is only using Internet Connection Sharing (without a router) to share its Internet connection with me. Within this network there are only two computers, the one I use (as client) in my house and the other one is the host computer as I mentioned earlier.

How do I know that the host computer is being turned on or off?

The purpose is to know so that I can use all the bandwidth from the modem when the host computer is not turn on. Because there are no restrictions on bandwidth from the host computer, and I just wanted to use all the available bandwidth only when the host computer is not turned on.

Both computers use Windows 7.

after serching all night to find out why his computer is in limbo, i leave my brother's house without finding needed help. his computer won't turn off...the fan, a couple little lights until he unplugs it from the wall. first, the computer did a restart all by itself, he said, then it would not turn on, except the fan and little lights inside that won't turn off. he took out the hard drive and it functions in his other computer...he puts the hard drive back into the new computer and it will not turn on or completely turn off that fan. he tried the "hold the on/off button for at least five seconds" step and nothing changes. he has had the computer for a year and a half, so he really wants to figure this out. how can he even get it to turn on so he could do a safe start up? so far we cannot find a way to troubleshoot. he have checked the cords, perhaps there was a freeze up that began this loop and that's why the fan stays on? please say this is something you have heard of and there may be a solution. the advice we have found usually goes back to buying a new computer. thanks in advance, tea

Answer:My gaming computer

Sounds good but also check Neweggs prices. And 4 gigs of RAM is too much unless you're going to use a 64bit OS. 32 OS's can only see about 3 gigs because of the way they handle memory addressing.

Hi all!I bought an emachines T6212 computer for my son at Best Buy last week. I also got a Samsung SyncMaster 730b LCD monitor and an APC Back-UPS ES 350/500 battery pack/surge protector (at the insistence of the sales personnel...didn't know about such a thing). The purpose of his computer is for gaming (counterstrike, etc.) and student use (hopefully through college, about 6 years). Either the Nvidia 7900GT or ATi X1800XT would be fine for that machine. You could always go a little higher end if you wanted to spend more.

DX10 cards will be out in the fall so you may not want to spend too much on a card right now.

I noticed there's no memory listed. I would go with 2GB of value PC3200 (unless you're going to overclock).

Never built a computer nor have any idea how I would set it up and how to find the right pieces that would even match, or even costs... I know all my hardware parts, what they are for and such, but never really tried making one from scratch.

What are you going to use the PC for? Gaming (AC3, PlanetSide2, etc.)
How much is your budget? 700 Euros, could go up to 800-850 if I find it extreamly necessary
Where are you located? Italy
Are you willing to buy online? Yes, if the shipment doesn't cost and it's quick (I've had bad experiences...)
Are you going to re-use any parts from an earlier build? No
Do you need other peripherals like a monitor, keyboard and mouse, among others? No, maybe keyboard and monitor if it can fit in the budget
Have you already bought any parts? No
Do you have an Operating System (OS)? I can get it outside of the budget

Will you need any aftermarket cooling, such as a CPU\GPU cooler or a watercooling setup? Maybe, my laptops have always overheated, so don't know really

P.S. Ideally I'd want something that could run games like AC3 and Planetside2 on default graphics without overheating and lagging, and if I do it I wouldn't want to buy extra parts for 2-3 years at least without feeling the need to
P.P.S Should I worry about the fact I wouldn't have warranty?

I am not a computer guru but I do know one thing for sure....AMD is the only way to game!
I have the same processor you are talking about and it sucks!!
I have an AMD 1.8 that is 7 years old (on another computer) and on mathematical equations it is 30% faster than the Intel and it will nearly run most of the games I currently have.
I will "NEVER" get another Intel for gaming.
Just my opinion.

If you're going to go Dell for gaming, then go with their Alienware line. Those are made for gaming.

Now, the ASUS G Series is rather satisfactory, but won't be the ultimate best. You need something with 8800 GTS/X in it. Alienware will give that to you for around 2500-3000.

You didn't mention a case, hard drive, optical drives or floppy. I suppose you will reuse old ones?

I wonder why they offer such an odd combo deal? While they will work okay, they are mismatched in a sense. I guess you don't intend to go with SLI or Crossfire in the near term.

Is this a good enough computer to have 100 FPS or more on CSS and on HL2?
Is this a good computer overall?
Do you guys have any suggestions for me?

Answer:New Computer (Gaming, CSS, HL2) Help Please!

I would change the ASUS motherboard tio something else, as it is known to be buggy. This is $10 cheaper, and is one of the best around.

Are you going to overclock?

2gb's of memory is overkill right now, as games don't even use 1gb. What manufacturer?

You might want to get the 32bit version of windows for the time being, as it 64bit windows will give you lower performance in games that run in 32bit which I think the only game that is 64 bit is a version of far cry.

Is that a venice AMD 64 3500?

That PSU is not very good, you are paying for the looks, with a generic PSU in it, which can take out the whole system if they go. If you want a good looking PSU than the OCZ modstream is good, along with thermaltake's ones.

Answer:What computer is better for gaming

There is only enough detail to compare graphics, HDD, and memory. The graphics/HDD are comparable, and clearly the memory in machine one is twice as much. For a gaming machine, you will want at least 8GB memory.

Machine two doesn't list which CPU or PSU. The CPU frequency is all that is listed.

I have been shopping around for the best gaming computer and I was hoping to get some advice. Unfortunately, building it myself is not an option, so I've been looking at some top names (I think?!). I checked out the Dell XPS, Alienware area 51, Puget, and xdreammachines. Two more questions- Intel or AMD & what type of monitor?

Answer:Best Gaming Computer

Boy, that is quite the question!

Performance vs Cost? How important is graphics? Do you need/want a 'maintenance package?' Do you want to be able to work on it yourself if something goes wrong? For gaming, do want a gaming mouse/keyboard or is the one that 'comes' with the package ok? Do you want >5.1 dolby w/ surround sound, or are two low budget tin-sounding speakers w/ on-borad sound ok? Flat Screen, LCD Screen, or Boat Anchor monitor? I prefer AMD over INTEL, but honestly I its mostly preference... You'll want fast refresh on the monitor...etc.

I know that you said you don't want to, or your situation requires that you can't build it yourself... But you should look into it - because its actually not that difficult, and you could save yourself some money. If you get well supported equipment/components, and on the equip list for XP, it is as straigtforward as hooking together some components... imho

But I do understand, and know that there are reasons for not wanting to do build it yourself. There are a few threads going currently that discuss the pros and cons of some namebrand machines...check 'em out. But honestly, I wouldn't think a namebrand machine would be the "Best Gaming Computer." Unless you are rich and can throw money at alienware type equipment.

hmm...I apologize for not really answering your question..heh.

My current pc is dying on me and it's time for new one. The first one helped me learn the inside of a computer and even swapped out some parts in it. Now I want to build a new one from scratch (at first I was just going to order one, but it's cheaper to just put my knowledge to use). So I have done some extensive research and believe all the following parts will be good for the hardcore gaming I plan to do. But I just need to make sure that I'm going not overkill with anything. Also my budget is at most $800.

Case- Rosewill BLACKHAWK Gaming ATX Mid Tower Computer Case, come with Five Fans, window side panel, top HDD dock

CPU- This one I'm going to ask for help on. What would be a good one for good pc gaming and not break the bank?

GPU- EVGA SuperClocked 01G-P3-1461-KR GeForce GTX 560 (Fermi) 1GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Support Video Card

PSU- Rosewill Stallion Series RD500-2DB 500W ATX12V Power Supply

Optical Drive- SONY Black 18X DVD-ROM 48X CD-ROM SATA DVD-ROM Drive Model DDU1681S-0B - OEM

HDD- Western Digital WD5000AAKX Caviar Blue Hard Drive - 500GB, 3.5", SATA 6Gbps, 7200RPM, 16MB Read more

Answer:Gaming computer help

Nice pick for a case.
You may want to increase your memory to 8GB.
I didn't see a listing for a motherboard. Was this left open with the CPU inquiry? Do you prefer AMD or Intel?
You may want to choose a better CPU cooler if you don't want to use the cooler that is normally shipped with the CPU.

Question: Gaming computer

I would like to purchase a high end gaming computer and would really appreciate recommendations. I have always bought Dells because their web site is easy to use and their tech support is decent. I undersatand there are probably better gaming computers (ABS, Falcon, Alienware, and Voodoo) but I don't know anything about how good their support/service is and how easy it is to use. The boutique computers cost more. Is the extra price worth the difference? Also, is the Athalon 53 chip worth the price? Thanks for any advice!

Shop around all the computer stores, online or actual stores. I'm not really that familiar with UK options for those types of places, and even if I was I know that the currency exchange rate isn't the only factor and the parts will cost different amounts there. I'm going to explain the basics of what you need for a decent gaming computer and you can do the actual shopping.
First and foremost read reviews. This will give you an idea of how reliable the computer is before you buy it and have it break the day the warranty is up or have it break in a way the warranty conveniently doesn't cover.
You can buy a computer that's built already, or I'm sure there are websites that will let you customize a computer and have it built, or you can purchase the components and put them together yourself if you feel up for it. It isn't as hard as you probably think it is.
Anyhow you choose to do it, for full HD gaming you need a card with at least 1GB of video memory. The video card is the key component that will determine how your games run. From ATI, get something from 5600 series or 6600 series or higher. The first number doesn't say much about the power of the card, it's just the generation. 6450 is not better and faster than 5870, for example. Get the computer with the card that is the best you can afford. If you have a choice between a weaker processor with a better card or a better processor with a weaker card, go for the better card.
You only need a processor that is good enough not to... Read more

Hello all, I'm new to the forums and looking for advice on computer hardware. I play WoW (World Of Warcraft) which is very intensive on systems so I've decided to build a new gaming computer that can keep up.

What I'm looking for is:

Mother board: Has at least 2 pci-e slots, few pci slots, Ethernet port, 4-6 RAM slots, USB 3.0 would be nice, and compatible with SSD.

Side note: I was looking at the Intel i7-960 CPU but from what i was reading your better off buying a 930 or 920 and overclocking, is this accurate?

Cooling System: Water cooling preferably, I'm aware that some go to only CPU and others go to CPU and GPU; I would like it to go to both if possible.

GPU: Would like to link 2 of them in the 2 pci-e's

Harddrive: Solid State Drive 120GB

Case: planning on water cooling, so something that is compatible. Transparency is a plus.

Power Supply: Was thinking 1,000.

RAM: I can figure out once i have the board figured out.

CD/DVD drives: don't really care will probably buy cheapo's

OS: Windows 7

Any recommendations on brands or specific hardware/items would be great, please and thank you
P.S. Budget ISN'T an issue.

Answer:Gaming computer help

Only for playing WoW you would not require such a powerful CPU. However, if budget is not a constraint I would recommend:

CPU - Intel Core i7-930 Bloomfield 2.8GHz

Motherboard - ASUS P6X58D-E LGA 1366 Intel X58

GPU - 2x EVGA 768-P3-1362-TR GeForce GTX 460 (Fermi) Superclocked

Memory - G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 6GB (3 x 2GB) DDR3 1600

PSU - CORSAIR HX Series CMPSU-1000HX 1000W (Considering you might add a third GPU and will be running all components highly OC'd.)

HDD - OCZ Vertex 2 120GB

Case - Thermaltake ArmorPlus(Armor+) VH6000BWS Black (Ultimately it comes down to personal preference. Picked this as it has 10 PCI ducts for Quad GPU configurations. The HAF 932 / HAF X are other excellent cases.)

Others here should be able to advise you on the choice of liquid cooling systems as I'm still on air cooling for my CPU/GPU.

Answer:Which computer is best for gaming?>>>

I wouldn't actually qualify any of those as decent gaming computers.
2 of them have integrated graphics and the first one has a
9500,which is a low to medium level card.
All of them seem to be using cheap power supplies that were
included with the case.
Plus,it looks like you need to buy windows for all of them.
The 9200 Mhz cpu speed posted on the third one is just
The core speed is not additive and most programs won't
utilize all 4 cores at the same time.
The best bang for the pound would probably be the third one but
you will need to installl a decent power supply and a decent
video card.
Also will need to buy and install whichever version of windows
you would want.

Question: Gaming Computer

Hi, Im thinking of getting a "gamming computer". What are some must-haves for a computer to run the newest and most powerful games?

Answer:Gaming Computer

Get a good processor, I like AMD64, if you have alot of money to spend, get an FX-57. You will also need alot of RAM, go for 1 GB or more, it may cost a bit more, but its definately worth it. And lastly, you need a good video card (or 2 if you have SLI [Scalable Link Interface] technology which allows you to have 2 video cards working in conjunction with one another). Nowadays, I think that you should get nothing lower than 256 MB of video memory to run the latest games. Also, there are the evident aspects of a good power supply, high-capcity and fast (preferably 10,000 RPM) hard drives.

How much does making your own good gaming computer cost? It doesn't need to be a super computer by the way. A computer that probably couldn't play Crysis but is still great for other games like Team Fortress 2. Thanks ^^

Answer:Gaming Computer

It all depends how you define "good".If you were to buy it pre-built, it'd cost a fair bit more than physically building it yourself.Alternatively, you can have a custom-built PC - most manufacturers offer this - but again, actually buying and building your own components is usually the best option, if you can.If you let us know a rough budget, what you need, and whether you are comfortable with building your own PC from scratch or jot, we can let you have some suggestions.

I finally have to the chance to make my first ever computer from scratch!!!
I have around a 1000$ but if necessary am willing to shell out some more.
As the thread title states i will be building a gaming computer.
I would really appreciate it if someone could help me out with my decision.
As a general guideline i was thinking of getting a Intel quad core, because i heard the q6600 or something like that had great performance for its price, but i could use some help with the specifics such as the L1 and L2 cache which i heard is really important . Also i was going for 4 gig DDR2 ram, since vista would require a whole lot of ram on its own already, and 4 gig seems to be the new standard. At first i was really planning to buy a 8800gt but recently ive been hearing that the ATI 4850 is almost the same price and much better. Im really awkward about getting ATI because ive just been a fan of NVIDIA i guess, and in general i have the mentality that its just better, but i would love to hear some comments on that issue.
I have no idea what kind of motherboard to get, but i obviously want one that wont interfere with future upgrading of parts, and i also would want it to support at least 3 hard drives (although i dont know whether that really has to do with the motherboard or just the SATA or IDE wire). The reason i want multiple hard drives is because i already have a kind of old computer with 2 hard drives in there for windows XP. I was wondering if i can take the two harddrives... Read more

I am new to this whole thing in general so after trying to search the web for a few days I just decided to post a question on a forum. Basically, I am giving my mom my old computer which was an HP. It had the AMD 5600 dual core processor, 3 gb of ram and a visiontek 1550x 512mb pcie card that I put into it.

I wanted a more serious gaming computer even though I don't game all that much and bought this to replace it. Link removed because of my first post. It is the ibuypower 528. I got it on sale for $559 also.

So, how much performance am I going to gain here? I know the graphics card is a step up but as far as the processor goes, I went from a pretty good dual core to the worst quad core correct? Will there be a big difference?

I also bought an extra 4 gb of ram to throw in the new one for the hell of it.

Pretty much the only game I play is BF2 right now so how will it do with that? My old system ran it on med settings pretty good. I hope I can go all the way up in terms of settings for that game.

Any other ideas out there as well. I will have more questions as people comment, I am sure.

With 400$ you honestly aren't going to get much in the way of a gaming computer. I definitely would tell you to stay away from Intel if your budget is that low, because my last build I spent about 350$ just on the Intel CPU alone.

The VERY first thing I would ask is what kind of games do you want to play and how good do you want them to look?
