Keyboard sticks in games. seems to work fine otherwise

Question: Keyboard sticks in games. seems to work fine otherwise

I have the Microsoft Wireless Keyboard 3000 with the laser mouse. It seems to work fine for everything but in COD or MOH it stops responding or sticks when i try to walk forward or whatever. I have to let go the key and hit it again. I updated the drivers from M but it didnt help.

Any ideas?

Preferred Solution: Keyboard sticks in games. seems to work fine otherwise

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi, I have been having a problem with my Spectre laptop ever since I got it(a week ago). Whenever I play games such as Unreal Tournament or Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel, my character sometimes gets "stuck" going forward or to the left. In the UT tutorial where it shows the buttons that you press, it shows that the when it is "stuck" going forward like that, the W key is being pressed, even though I am not pressing it. I have disabled all sticky keys, filter keys and all that stuff as well as set my keyboard repeat rate and delay settings to high as suggested by other forums; However, I am still getting this problem. Any ideas on how I can go about fixing this? For reference, I am running Windows 10.

Answer:Keyboard "sticks" sometimes while playing games

Hi there @Studes1?Welcome to the HP Support Forums! It is a great place to find the help you need, both from other users, HP experts and other support personnel. I understand that your character gets stuck going forward sometimes, in certain games and I am happy to help. Since you bought the computer a week ago, I assume that it originally had Windows 8.1 installed and you upgraded.  Did this issue also occur in Windows 8.1, or was it first noticed in Windows 10? Is this only happening in those games, or have you had erratic keyboard behavior happen in regular applications as well? If it is only happenning in those games then it may be a game specific setting that could be adjusted, for that I would suggest the game forums. If you have a sticky key issue, in all applications and considering what you have already tried, then I would suggest you use the following and create a case for your issue and contact HP. If you live outside the US/Canada, please click the link below to get the contact information for your region.

I've been doing some online gaming (world of warcraft), and I kept getting these Error#131 issues. This would cause the game files to become corrupted and then I would have to repair, or reinstall. The WoW tech site says that chronic error #131 messages are either a Hard drive, Ram, or Motherboard issue.

Running the Windows Vista memory diagnostic tool has turned up some odd results, the initial test with a 1gb stick in slot #1 and a 1gb stick in slot #2 came back with errors. I then removed the ram from slot 2 and ran the test on slot 1 with 1 stick of ram.... no errors. I did the same with the other stick in slot errors. this lead me to believe that it was slot#2 giving me the issue so I moved the ram from slot 2 to slot 3, thus having 1gb of ram in slot 1 and 1gb of ram in slot 3. After a little while......error#131 appeared.

So I then tested both sticks in slots 1 and 3 together and came back with ram errors, I then tested both sticks in slot #1, and then again in slot #2 and both tests came back fine. Any ideas on what this issue could be? I know both sticks are the same brand, speed, totally identical.

Answer:Ram Works fine in single sticks, not working fine together :P

I am pretty desperate now as I recently got a new Lenovo z500 ideapad laptop, which i think its 9 months old only.
All of the sudden, one day the shift key started to automatically been pressed down.. as if its like its being 'possessed' in simple terms.. and it happened at random times
After much forums, some say hold shift key down for 10 secs or x amount of secs, disable sticky keys, filter keys, bounce keys, or even continue press shift keys continuously etc etc..
Did all those, disabled sticky keys, bounch keys, filter keys and now whenever i on my comp, the shift key will automatically be pressed down, so i have to hold the shift key for like 5-8secs to disable it, than it works fine and no more occurence.
However, a new problem occurs.. now certain keys on the laptop is not working like the right shift key.. when the right shift key is pressed down, none of the letters are being capital or none of the symbols are showing BUT the left shift key does the job..
Than, the left shift key could not caps the letter z, t, y, m, and a few more.. but it works prefectly fine with other keys.. Now i am pretty sure its not a keyboard malfunction because without pressing caps, all the keys are fine but only these certain keys wont be caps when the left shift key is pressed..
So i decided to use an external keyboard and everything works out fine.. right shift key is working, left shift key caps those letters which could not be cap... Read more

Answer:laptop keyboard does not work but works fine with usb keyboard

The fact that a USB keyboard works fine when your built in one doesn't, proves that it is the keyboard itself (or connectors) that is damaged/defective, otherwise, if it were a software problem, the external keyboard would do the same.

I dont know if anyone can help cause I've looked everywhere online.
For all the more graphically intense games eg: Age of Mythology (offline) , Ijji games, Combat Arms, Maple Story, etc. I've been having some really weird lag spikes that never happened before.

So the game starts off excellent, no lag whatsoever then 5, 10 minutes into the game huge lag spike.

For the fps games the frame isnt frozen just the other people. While my character moves around, a few seconds later people are 20 feet to the left.

Other games (Age of Mythology, Maplestory) is the same except it never really freezes but jumps and its really slow, even though it worked fine for the first few minutes.

I don't know if its my computer or the game. Can someone help?

My Computer Specs are:

HP Pavilion Desktop PC
Windows Vista Home Premium 64-bit
699 GB Hard Drive space
7 GB Ram
NVIDIA GeForce 9100 Integrated Graphics

Answer:Games work fine then neverending lag.

I play several games with PHP and now they are timing out. They worked fine last week (no timing out at all) and will start out working and then start timing out.

This site can?t be reached took too long to respond.

I had actually gone to several pages before it timed out.

I am on Windows 7 Home Premium with service pack 1.

I'm using Windows XP with all updates installed, including SP2, as well as DirectX 9.0c, 3GHz processor, 1GB system memory, ATI RADEON 9800 graphics card, VIA AC'97 surround sound, and a wireless internet adapter. Pretty top-end stuff, as far as I know, but it's acting like my old 233MHz computer now, and has been for roughly 2 months. I've only owned it since March!

Over time, my games have all started to crash after 5 minutes of play, regardless of graphical settings or of what I was doing at the time; on memorable occasions, Counter-Strike: Source has crashed before I joined a server. In addition, my computer's speed has slowed over time as well.

I have ZoneAlarm, SpywareBlaster, McAfee ViruScan, Ad-Aware, and The Cleaner installed, plus I use the utilities frequently, so there's no problem with viruses.

The fact that the games crash, on average, after the same length of time no matter how high or low my graphics (resolution, shader detail, full-screen or not, anti-aliasing etc.) are set, or what other programs are running (I've tried swapping out ZoneAlarm for SP2 firewall, turning off lots of unnecessary services and programs, etc.), suggests there's no problem with running out of memory; this idea is supported by the times I have run a game alongside the task manager, and seen that the game crashes do not coincide with a sudden/prolonged spike of memory, CPU or pagefile usage.

(Every time I open the Task Manager and cl... Read more

Just overhauled my computer a few days ago (new mobo, processor, vid card, and hard drive).Only now all the movies I watch are verrrry dark, but I've played a few games (DoD, NS) and they look great.  So I figured this was a codec problem, and downloaded the k-lite pack, but there was no change.  So this morning I downloaded defilerpak, and again no change.  I also got the divx codec before the k-lite pack.Anyone know what else I should try?

I'll begin by saying how it happened:

My PC used to be filled with junk files and had some viruses that got through my anti-virus and couldn't be cleaned. One of my co-workers suggested I do a factory reset, and while I am an avid gamer, I don't really understand much when it comes to hardware, so I let the IT company I usually go to do the reset.

Prior to the factory reset, I had many games on my PC - Two of them were League of Legends, and the non-steam version of an MMORPG called Wakfu.

After the reset, I redownloaded these games, and once I opened the launchers for either of these two games, my PC screen froze.

To provide some background information, I will explain what happened to 'cause' the problem in the first place:
I was on vacation with my parents (it's their computer, by the way) and prior to that we took out all the plugs of the computers just in case. When we came back, all that was done was re-plug the computer, and then we tried booting it. It turned on, but the display didn't work.

After some fooling around, it was identified that RAM was the issue, because when I took out a single stick, it suddenly showed video again. However the next boot it didn't, so I took the other stick and tried it, but it didn't work, so I put it in the other port and then it did work.

Long story short, I have tried both RAM sticks together: doesn't work. Tried them individually, and they both work SOMETIMES. Sometimes one of them works in one port, then it works in the other, then it doesn't and the other stick has to be in one port, then the other. It seems completely random, and I haven't been able to identify any other issue.

I'm not entirely sure if I'm in the right section of the Forums, but since I restarted the PC about a hundred times, it seems like I am.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Edit: Realised I forgot to mention that the motherboard is an ASUS M4N78SE and the RAM are 2x2GB 1066 DDR2 Fatal1ty (OCZ).

New Logitech keyboard requires pounding on a key maybe several times B4 it makes it's mark using IE7. Works just fine on Firefox. This happens whether I am typing in Outlook or on an internet page. Weird.

Answer:New keyboard won't work on IE fine on Firefox

I assume you installed the Logitech keyboard drivers, correct?

If you did, you could just have a bad keyboard. It should still be under warranty, so take it back to where you got is and ask for a replacement.

I'm having some connection issues with my wireless internet upstairs, specifically with browsers (using Firefox but I have issues with Explorer and Chrome too). My laptop shows that the signal strength is excellent but for some reason, when I browse the net, the loading is always pooping out or is really slow. I never actually get a "there is no connection" message though. I would be signed into my gmail account and still get new email but the chat is always saying that it can't reach gmail. I can however connect to online games and play with no problems whatsoever.

My bedroom is right above where the router is and I didn't have this problem before. It just started a few months ago and it's really starting to bug me. My desktop (which is also using wireless) and my iPod work perfectly fine as well as my husband's computer and laptop. It seems only my laptop is having this issue.

C'mon people you're letting me down here, this is the second incident in a row that I've managed to figure out before anyone posted any kind of a reply. I know the answer is obvious to those that know it but when someone else is asking for help its nice to give some.

Anyway, problem was caused by some dumbass accessability option. There was a small icon on the taskbar (that I didnt spot until after I had resolved the problem) that looked like a small stopwatch. So if you se this and cant type, go to accessability options and make sure tha everything is unchecked.

My thanks to the Ubuntu user who had a similar problem, posted it on a Linux site, and especially to the people that answered hiscry for help. Reading this is what got me loking at the accessibility options in XP.

I have a USB keyboard which normally works fine but is not working when I enter the BIOS. (Which I am trying to do BTW so that I can boot from the the Win10 ISO install disk. I'm on Win7 now and I've tried the easier way many times but it always fails.)

The keyboard is plugged directly into the PC (i.e. is not going through a hub).

If it might matter the motherboard is a Gigabyte MA78G-DS3H which supports AMD Phenom and Athlon processors.

I used to use a non-USB keyboard on this machine but that port stopped working so I don't think I have the option of trying a non-USB keyboard.

I wouldn't mind replacing this system but I am too busy to do that while the upgrades to Win10 are still free.

Any ideas?

Thanks, Bob

Answer:USB Keyboard Does Not Work in BIOS (But Otherwise Works Fine.)

not all bios's allow the use of a mouse, newer UEFI Bios's do but on older machines it's not an option , but for your keyboard you could look for a Legacy Option in the bios under USB which should allow USB to work outside Win7 too.

you could check the PS2 ports are still enabled too while in the bios

So I just started having this issue today to where none of my facebook games will load in IE10, but when I try to go and play them on Google Chrome they load just fine, what I have tried already is clearing my internet browsing history and cache and got no results out of that and another thing I tried is deleting all the storage from the flash player that did not work, how can I get my games to load properly again I do not want to use Google Chrome as I only use it to upload videos to youtube, I want to use IE10 as I have been any help would be greatly appreciated thanks guys

Answer:Games refusing to load on IE10, but work just fine in Google Chrome

Chrome has Java and flash built in,
ie has never so the first place to check is removing any existing Java/ Oracle and flash and replace them,
Then make sure they are enabled,

You might find joy switching to software rendering instead of gpu rendering,

You can find more here,

Also make sure active x filtering is not activating,
Gear symbol on the top right/ Safety/ Uncheck anything that is checked,
Run this as a additional way to clear caches,
Temp files delete,
Run this as administrator and Start the scanner,
Shut your machine down after it finishes,

Hey guys,
So I've been struggling with this problem all day, and there are many forums around the internet like this, but none are exactly like mine, and I've tried a lot of the troubleshooting options that seem to work for others but haven't fixed my problem. Firstly, I've recently put together a computer and everything works fine, even the keyboard and mouse work in BIOS. Now I've gone out and got my hands on an OEM copy of Windows 7 to install (buying the retail here is now close to impossible since Windows 8 was released a little while back) and now I've come home to install it, and I noticed during the installation I could only use my keyboard to enter details, mouse didn't work, so I had to tab, space and enter my way through. Until I come to enter the product key, keyboard is still fine, then I realize the odd key isn't working (without giving too much away, my H and 0 keys), which I find odd as all the others are. I end up skipping this part and finish the installation, to now where I try and connect to the internet, but putting in my isp password is impossible as it contains an H, and that key isn't working. I restart, unplug them both, plug them back in, and now I'm stuck at my loading screen, as now my keyboard and mouse have just stopping working entirely, which is odd as the light on the bottom of the mouse is on and so are various lights across my keyboard. After trying a few troubleshooting options (will mention below) I'm left wondering, hardware issue? (mouse... Read more

Answer:Old xp computer keyboard works fine but when on boot menue it dont work

I think you will probably need to temporarily connect whichever alternative keyboard (PS/2 or AT) the system has input for, enter the BIOS setup as indicated on the boot screen, and enable an option which is commonly called Legacy USB. The system should then respond to the USB keyboard prior to Windows starting.

This often occurs on older systems when the CMOS data has been reset back to BIOS default values. Make sure the CMOS backup battery hasn't gone flat, or it is likely to happen again.

Hi have a PB SW51 laptop, AMD Turion 64, 2gb DDR2 ram.

It has been running windows 7 32bit fine for over a year now.

Foolishly I decided to give Win 7 64bit a try.

The installation went like clockwork until final reboot to start windows (after installation complete)

The splash screen displays, then freezes, then I get BSOD telling me my BIOS isn't ACPI compliant.

After Googling for info I read about removing a stick of ram, which I did, and hey presto it boots with no problems.

I've run memtest86 for 3 passes on each stick of ram with no errors.

I know that Win7 64bit is best with 4gb of ram but thought I'd give it a try anyway.

Now I really wish I hadn't as I decided to reinstall the 32bit edition and am now getting the same error
with that.

please help.

Don't know why I'm getting this error now. As when I first got the laptop, over a year ago, I installed Win7 32bit without problems and it ran sweet as a nut.

Answer:Win 7 laptop freezes on boot with 2 sticks of ram, but fine with 1

Did you try with each stick of ram individually? If it works with one and not the other, replace the defective one.

I got a system in recently with a weird issue. It would reset after a few minutes, and then shorter and shorter intervals on restart continually. I tested for all the normal stuff (power supply, temperature, unplugged the video card) and checked the error logs but only the unexpected restarts were listed, with no suspicious events around them.

If I removed a memory stick it ran fine though. I thought it was a bad stick but I ran memtest on both sticks without errors for a few passes. Immediately though if I plug in both sticks the system won't stay on for more than a minute or two.

I adjusted just about every bios setting concerning memory without change, and tried loading bios failsafe defaults.

Anyways I'm considering between just telling the owner that the system can only support one ram stick now, likely due to some motherboard fault, or trying to do a bios update though I'm a bit hesitant that if there are issues with the motherboard maybe I should just leave the bios version alone.

I'd be interested in hearing others takes on the issue.

CPU- AMD Athlon 64 X2 4600+ 2.40GHZ
Motherboard- amd690gm-m2
RAM- CORSAIR CM2X1024- 6400C4 800 MHZ 4-4-4-12

Answer:System restarts with two memory sticks, fine with one

Often a faulty memory stick will work by itself, but then fail once running in duel channel.

Unfortunately this is very difficult to test with two sticks, so there's no guarantee that this is the issue. You may just have to buy some new memory.

Hi all. Ok so I am a video game geek and I love to play games. So then my keyboard and Joysticks worked and everything until yesterday. So then I thaught to play my PC Games. So Boot one up and the black screen opens than the screen turns of and goes back to the desktop. Then I tried another game the same thing happened. I tried all my games and that's what happens. So then I put my Donald Duck's Goi'n [email protected]! Nothing. So I just turn my computer of via the button on the CPU. So my keyboard doesn't work with any games. I have played all those games but now they stopped working. So I went to Controll Panel to check on the Game Controllers but it doesn't open. I keeped on opening it but doesn't open. I just opened a brand new T470s, running Windows 10 1709 x64 Pro. I noticed after Windows did some updates that the laptop was stuck on the Lenovo logo with the message "To interrupt normal startup, press Enter". I waited about 15 minutes, but there was no change.  I pressed Enter, but this did nothing.  I then powered the laptop off and then back on, and it displayed this message but then quickly moved past it to the rotating dots, configured Windows updates, and then successfully booted into Windows.I've done some testing, and what I've discovered is that the machine does not reboot successfully.  If some software wants me to reboot or I tell Windows to reboot, I get the behavior where it sticks on the boot screen with the Lenovo logo and that message about pressing Enter to interrupt the normal boot process.  If I shut down Windows and power it back on (or I power it off on that boot message screen and power it back on), it starts normally. I tried updating the UEFI and also Windows, but this hasn't solved the issue. Any suggestions or assistance is welcome!

Odd issue, been playing with computers since the 90s and never seen this happen. All of a sudden like my keyboard and sometimes my mouse are unresponsive at the windows 7 login screen. Sometimes the mouse works, sometimes it doesnt. If it doesnt work initially on power up it has worked every time so far after a reboot. Keyboard works just fine in the bios and just fine in windows after i use the onscreen keyboard to log in if the mouse is working but no response on the login screen. Capslock/numluck and any other button that should activate or change lights on the keyboard have zero effect when the keyboard is unresponsive.

Anyone ever seen anything like this? Ive just recently formatted/reinstalled a couple times without issue. Have been playing around with some virtual machine and vpn programs. Using avast antivirus this time around, used avg before, nothing else should really be different. Ive formatted hundreds of times and never seen this, pretty sure hardware is not the cause as it works fine before/after login screen. No strange new software that I can think of other than a vpn software program which ive only used in a virtual machine environment. Unless I somehow got a virus or malware that avast and malwarebytes cant detect Im kinda stumped, cant seem to figure this one out on my own, any thoughts? I spose the easy answer is just format again but I hate having a problem I cant solve.

I should mention i did try uninstalling avast as would be the first obvious step ... Read more

I just got a Horizon 27 still new in box. When I open Aura, ALL of the games give me the same messages. 1. Notification Button lets me choose either Restore or Cancel. I click restore amd games immediately crash.Message says "The game crashed. The crash report folder named Crash_2015-11-15-071042 next to game executable. It would be great if youd send the crash report to the developer".It is possible this computer was upgraded to 10 then reverted to 8.1 vs reset to factory. Not sure why that would matter of educational games such as Color Corner of Educational Puzzle work fine.I would really like to play the Aura games with my family. Hopefully this is a easy fix.

Do you have the Horizon 27, or the Horizon 2 27. If you have the Horizon 27, I would suggest you downgrade to Windows 8.1 until Lenovo lists your computer as supported.

Since i bought this rig a year ago i haven't been able to play any games that runs on the valve engine(half life 2, css, portal etc) more than a few seconds and then the comp reboots.
With Bf2 i can play max 30 minutes and Bf2142 maybe one hour then they crash exactly the same way as Valve games..
All other games i have tried runs without any problem, even the more demanding such as Crysis, Far Cry 2 and Dark Athena.
This is really anoying since the only game i bother about is BF and CSS.

My comp consist of:

cpu: q6600
gfx: 8800 gt 512mb Point of View
mobo: gigabyte ga-n650sli-ds4
ram: 4gb(2x1gb supertalent02 ddr2 pc2-8900u & 2x1gb dimm ddr2 pc26400u)
psu: 570 watt

Cpu temp is at full load 60c and gpu is at full load 70c, i added an extra fan to the gfx and set the fan to 80%. nothing is overclocked.
I tried with diffrent memorys, changed hdds, reinstalled a bunch of times, reinstalled windows xp 32bit, maybe 10 diffrent nvidia drives, also changed settings for the sound card but none of that made any diffrence.
Havent been able to test with other gfx.

Anyone else hade this issue and manage to solve it then please let me know, also greatful for all suggestions.

Recently, when i play Battlefield 2 my keyboard seems to stick, making the game impossible to play. When i press w(to move forward) my player (in game) goes forward for way to long. And theres a little bit of lag in between me pressing the key and my player doing the action. It's always random and sometimes it works okay for a couple seconds. Sometimes my player will go forward for just a little bit over, or sometimes I won't stop moving for 10 seconds after I let go of the key. This is happening with all keys, not just w. My keyboard isn't physically sticking at all. There just seems to be a problem with BF2 or something? Thanks for reading.

Edit- Also, this doesn't seem to be affecting my mouse at all. Only my keyboard is being affected.

Answer:Solved: BF2 - Keyboard sticks?

Well... i just restarted and that fixed the problem. That's good enough for me.

Ok, so i got a stick of 512 SD DDR RAM for Christmas (on top of the 512 I have in my PC). Both sticks have been tested separately on my PC and work by themselves. However, for some reason, my PC continuously restarts, right after the windows loading screen when I have both sticks in the slots. I only have 2 slots. Both sticks are IDENTICAL and are the same size/company/specs.

I'm running Windows XP Professional (Service Pack 2)

My motherboard is a PM800-M2, with the Phoenix-Award Bios.

Could it be something that needs activation in the bios? I searched and searched but could not find anything.

The manual for the MB can be located here:

Any suggestions?

Answer:Two sticks of 512 RAM won't work

I'd make sure your motherboard supports two double sided sticks..

oh.. and to note Are you trying to run it in dual channel mode or something? If so disable that option in the bios. that can cause it if the memory hates each other..

troubleshooting ram is very hard to do.. Very hard to track down probs :/

I have a friend who's computer works great on my network and my computer works great on his network, but when his computer is hooked to his network internet connectivity is slow and intermittantly fails.

Both computers are were connected directly to the router via the same ethernet cable, both units are laptops.

Again, vista believes it is connected to the internet, and it is, but the connection is just horrible. At my house it works beautifully.

His computer that is not connecting:
HP pavilion dv6748us.
procesor is AMD turion64x2
OS VISTA Home Premium 32bit
2 gb RAM

My laptop that worked on his connection is:
old SONY with windows XP pro
1gb RAM

Already have done the following:
Reset internet explorer 7
used the MSCONFIG console to turn off ALL startup processes just in case.
Ran a quick scan with superantispyware

I would have tried a differant browser but I could not download it, took it to my house so I could use a flash drive or let it sit forever and download and to my amazement there was no connectivity issues whatsoever.

This has been happening for long time, even on a new machine.I've tried to isolate the culprit program but have been unsuccessful.  And now suspect its an XP or hardware issue.xp/Pro, MS optical mouse, ms ergnonmic kbdduring input (type or mouse), often but not a set frequency, the keyboard will freeze and all three leds on the kbd will flash on for something less than a second.  Freeze means any keys pressed during the flash are ignored.Depending on what keys are pressed during/?immedately before the freeze/ the input behavior  (about 1 out of every 20 flahses) changes to a strange type of "Shift" select. eg in WinExplorer if one file name is highlighted, clicking any file name above it is the same as if the shift key was held down during the click.Likewise, if the up key is pressed 10 times -- the 10 files above the current selection will be highlighted. Press the down key? and the process reverses -- and will then will begun multiple selecting if you continue below the current selection.  The selection point can't be changed -- its like a fixed reference point.  This selection behavior is identical in any dialogue where selection is allowed (text in a document or notepad window, file names in a zip file, file names in a RAR file etc.)  In IE the behavior is also similar:  trying to click on a button will highlight all content between the current posn and where you click.  Note: right click is essentially disabled ... My laptop had a blue screen and keyboard stops working as well, I plugged the external keyboard and re-install the windows, now half of the keys are working and half dosent.

I am wondering has the kyboard damaged, I am also not sure if the I replace the keyboard will it work?

is there any settings in bios or any utility can fix the problem, could some one please advise?

Answer:Keyboard stops working - USB external keyboard is fine

Hello Nysoh

On this virtual way nobody can say for sure what the problem is but if the internal keyboard is not working properly first step is keyboard replacement. If the problem still persists then troublemaker can be keyboard port or keyboard controller.

As far as I know BIOS has nothing to do with this issue.

Alright, bear with me, this is a question for a friend of my dad's, and the information I have about the computer is what I can remember him telling me.

I talked to him on the phone (it's really frustrating trying to troubleshoot for people if you can't see their screen and they know nothing about computers :blackeye He insists that the two RAM sticks are identical, and he read the numbers to me, and they're both the type of RAM the motherboard supports. Two 512MB DDR PC2700 chips. One is new and the other is old, both different brands.

They both work individually with no problems, they just won't work together. The computer won't boot, the monitor just stays blank.

What could be the cause?

I had him reset his BIOS settings. No luck. I figured that maybe the chips weren't getting enough power, since he has a 430W and is trying to run two sound cards and two video cards. But I didn't want to tell him to upgrade without knowing for sure, you know?

I thought it could be bad slots, but he's tried them individually in every slot and they work. I'm as confused as he is at this point.

His PC is a mutt, it's got different parts from everywhere. His motherboard (ASUS P4V533-MX) supports 2GB of RAM and he ordered a 1GB stick online, now he's worried that that one won't work with the rest either.

I've been all over Google, I can't seem to find anything useful. Thanks in advance for any info t... Read more

Hi Sean,

With all of these multiple problems you listed here and considering the fact that; according to your last post, you have had these problems for over a week and they have gotten only worse over time: My suggestion would be to back up all of your docs, picture, music, email settings, and files and then reformat and reinstall Windows XP.

I mean, if you think about this for a second: A reinstall of Windows will take only about a few hours or so; and with all of these problems you're experiencing (which could take weeks just to figure out what the problem actually is; much less fix it) you are better off doing the reinstall of Windows XP in my opinion.

If you do not have the Windows XP install disk you can get one from Dell support, either via their support site or by calling them. You can also call Dell directly at this number 1-800-WWW-DELL. Here are the three Dell Service Dept numbers as well (800)-820-8965 or (800)-624-9897 or (800)-627-1170. You can also try contacting Dell via this online tech support link.

Last year I bought a Dell 8400 (from eBay) which did not come with the Win XP Pro disk. Someone in another forum told me that Dell support would provide a Dell Win XP Reinstall (at either no cost or perhaps a small fee or shipping). All I had to do was to provide the express service code and prove th... Read more

I dont wanna have to send my motherboard back and have to wait. if you know anything i can try id appreciate it. thanks for all the help in advance.

oh one more thing . there are only 2 slots for ram on my motherboard. my mb supports 800mhz. and my sticks are both 800mhz 1 gig kingston. and both sticks work.

Answer:monitor wont work with 2 sticks of ram.

1) Newer systemboards don't care which slot you use so try the memory in the other slot. This will let you know if it is a bad slot or,
2) Unless they are exactly the same, matched memory, you need to disable interleaving in the BIOS. Interleaving gives a slight improvement in performance by alternating which DIMM it uses; but, requires the memory run with the same timing.

I have a 3-4 year old desktop running W2K with two USB slots at the front. In the past when I pop my USB stick in, the computer recognises it as a new drive and I can access it via My Computer.

Recently, for no apparent reason, it no longer works. Tried the slots with another USB stick and also doesn't work. So I tried another plugging in a USB mouse in the same slots, and works perfectly fine.

So I thought the USB sticks were faulty, but when I tried them on a Mac, they work.

I've made no changes to any configuration, and nothing's been changed as far as I know.

Hi there

Stupidly I thought i could replair an apparently broken HDD instead of just buying a new desktop.

I bought a new western digitial 120 HDD, extra RAM, a DVD-RW and windows XP (to replace 98).

Upon fitting the hardware, I discovered the keyboard no longer works, though it works fine on my parents PC. The num, caps and scroll locks briefly light up when plugged in but the go dark and stay unlit when the PC is switched on. There are no 'keyboard not detected' messages when the keyboard is plugged in (but this does occur when I pull the cable out).

What could it be? Is it port problem, or something worse? I have tried taking out all of the additional hardware except for the HDD, but this makes no difference.

The upshot is that BIOS is unaccessible.

Any advice would be warmly appreciated.

Ok I just tried to install 128 megabyte PC800 RDRAM modules into a Sony Vaio ---there were already 2 sticks of the 64 meg RDAM previously installed--am I missing something here? What could cause the RDRAm to not work with each other? I have four slots--previously there was a 64 stick and then the cimm, a 64 stick and then another cimm. I changed it to 2x128 and then 2x64 -- and the machine wouldnt boot. I heard that RDRAM can be bitchy about using sticks from diffferent manufacturers--is this possible? how about could it be a mismatch of ECC and non-ECC? This is Windows XP, Pentium processor.

When I turn the computer on, the LED light signifying that the keyboard is working turns on until Windows starts to load, and then it suddenly shuts off.

When the Desktop loads, it is a nightmare to use. I click on folders and files half a dozen times before they open. Then I move the mouse and it selects everything in its path, though neither side of the mouse is "clicked." Finally, when I try to write an email (or other text), it opens, the cursor blinks, but my typing has no effect.

Answer:Mouse click either doesn't work or sticks

Hmmm........I would try to boot into safe mode and scan the computer for any viruses and spyware. Do boot into safe mode you will need to keep pressing F8 when you turn on your computer. Then a black screen with plenty selections comes up and choose "safe mode". Once you get to safe mode scan your computer for any viruses and spyware.

Did this happen all of a sudden? If the virus and spyware programs dont detect anything then I recommend performing a windows repair on that computer. You will need your windows xp CD to do this of course.

My problem is as follows: when launching some .exe files, either by double-clicking in Explorer or by having another program launch them, they show up in the Processes tab in Task Manager, take up some memory, some threads and some handles, and then stay
at 0% CPU and nothing else happens. Launching the file again only adds a new process, equally "dead".
The weird thing is that some files work fine: Chrome, Steam client and at least one Steam game, regedit.exe, msconfig.exe, Adobe reader, VLC media player, one compiled AutoHotKey script...
The ones that conspicuously don't work are OpenOffice (all its .exes), many Steam games, installers for new programs (such as OOo),
other compiled AutoHotKey scripts, Pure Data.
None of these problems seem to appear in Safe Mode.
So lots of stuff still works, but I'd love to fix this and be able to work on text documents and spreadsheets again...

I have done a search and realize there are several threads here that address this, but I haven't been able to solve this. This is the same laptop that I posted a thread about with the bad power button. Not sure if the two are related, since the two problems seemed to crop up around the same time. Anyway, I've tried HP's troubleshooting, but haven't gotten the speakers to work. I've uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers, checked the volume (duh), and attempted to do a system restore. Unfortunately, I didn't realize that system restore had been apparently been disabled for some time, and there were no restore points to choose from. I've googled this of course, and besides the things I've tried, it seems that either the headphone jack switch is stuck or the speakers are dead. Would both speakers give out at the same time? I've tried jiggling/rapidly pulling a headphone plug in and out to dislodge the switch, no dice. Anymore ideas I can try? I've been using external speakers plugged into the headphone jack, but this gets annoying after awhile.

Answer:will most games run fine on this?

The graphics card and ram should be fine, however the Sempron won't be able to run them at the speed which games will require.

Semprons are low end CPU's built for those whom want to read emails and the like. Go with an Athlon, if your on a budget you can get an AMD 64 3200 for like 70 or there-abouts, and that should 'keep you good' for a reasonable while.

OptionenLadies and Gentlemen, After reinstalling Windows on my IBM Thinkpad T42           2374F82               the ethernetport does not work anymore and the screen is hanging when  scrolling. I also have in the Device Manager located in the picture. I can unfortunately not represented here, but do I have ???????   under "other devices'':''for multimedia audio controller'',''Ethernet controller'',''''Network Controller, PCI Modem''', '''unknown device'',''USB controller''and''Video Controller (VGA compatible-)'''. I've been trying to upload several drivers from the Lenovo support and install, which also has works only properly (no error message or something similar), but nothing changed the problem. Also, the Lenovo ThinkVantageToolbox has brought nothing. Can you help me please. Many thanks in advance Sincerely FredNiem

Answer:T42 ethernet port doesn`t work and screen sticks when scrolling

Installing the driver is just the first part of the process, after that you must go into Win subfolder and run the setup files from there. For instance, your graphics driver would be in C>Drivers>Win>Video and your Ethernet in C>Drivers>Win>Ethernet
You get the idea.
Don't forget to download the chipset driver available on T42 driver page.
Good luck.

I ordered some computer stuff at 4a.m. and I had a major brainfart when doing so.

I ordered some Crucial ram that came in 2GB sticks, sold is in doubles and triple packs, my thought was well, 6GB is better then 4GB when ordering but after doing so I thought, wait, don't you normally run ram in two's for dual channel?

So tomorrow I have 3, 2GB sticks showing up. Should I order a forth? I mean I KNOW I can run just 3 sticks but that puts is out of dual channel mode, correct? Does it REALLY matter when you get upto 6GB of ram? I mean computers are so quick now days, does it really actually matter?

I have this motherboard: - ASUS M4A88TD-M/USB3 AM3 AMD 880G HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 Micro ATX AMD Motherboard

I intend to install Windows 7 Ultimate x64 tomorrow on this new motherboard and a Dual-Core CPU.

Answer:RAM... Two sticks, three sticks, dual channel, triple channels, huh?

Most MB's will let you run the 3 sticks in dual channel mode. One channel will have 4GB and one will have 2GB. Check you MB manual and it should show which slots to use.

Did you first check the "HIDE ALL MICROSOFT SERVICES" box? To do just that?

If not, chances are you turned off a service that was system critical! You have to be very carefull with the services tab. Once you check that box, YOU HAVE TO READ what each service is! Once the Microsoft ones are gone, there will only be 3rd party services left. You can generally turn off ALL of these, but ones for your Internet Security and Anti-Virus will then not function. Once agian, YOU HAVE TO READ what each service is!

Let me know how this goes....

I recently built a new system and I'm starting to question the knowledge I thought I had. Everything works just fine during normal use and in most games but some it seems to not like very much. I bought all of the components and built the system and then I added another 8GB of RAM and a second GTX 770 a couple weeks later. I tried updating the drivers and all that and everything works fine except in WildStar, Dream, and Daylight.

When I first installed the card I enabled SLI of course and was playing Diablo 3 and Skyrim with RealVision ENB just fine but then when WildStar went into open beta on the 8th I started playing that and after about 2 hours maybe I would get like a pink grid of squares and the game would shut down and it said it was a driver issue but this happens every single time I play the game now after about 15 minutes. When Dream crashes it just freezes and stays until I manually reset the system, and Daylight barely even opens before crashing.

Both cards work fine by themselves when I take the other card out but I only see problems when I enable SLI and now I'm having problems in Skyrim as well. I have no idea what else to try, I already got one of the cards back from RMA. Any help on what else to try before I do a fresh install of Windows would be greatly appreciated.

Full system specs:
CPU: i7-4770k @4.6GHz
Cooler: Corsair H105
MoBo: ASUS Maximus VI Hero
RAM: 16GB (4x4GB) G Skill Trident X @ 2400MHz
GPU: 2x MSI GTX 770 TF OC Gaming Edition
PSU: Corsair RM8... Read more

Answer:PC freezes during some games fine in others

DIsable SLI for those games until SLI support is added. Daylight is UE4 so I would be willing to bet it would be a while until SLI support is added to drivers. I run Daylight absolutely maxed out with ridiculous frames @ 1440p so a single 770 is more than plenty. Can't really comment specifically on the other games, but I'd be willing to be disabling SLI for those games fixes your issue.

Not sure if this is the right spot or not, so im sorry if it's incorrect.

I have an Alienware MX15 from a few years ago, equipped with an i5.
It used to run most if not all the games i tried, very smooth.
Now, as of maybe ealry this year, everything runs at a good 15-20 fps.
Examples being, Guild Wars 2 and Final Fantasy 14.

It's wierd, because i have run Basic Catzilla Benchmark, along with a few other tests, saying my system should be WELL able to handle these games.
I am leaning towards it being a problem with my processor. I have reseated it, with new thermal compound, and cleaned the inside. That used to fix it, but not this time.
Ive reformated, Bought a new hard Drive (SSD) and done a malware scan.

any tips? I'm just lost... ive been working on it for almost a year, and i just gave up.
But now im fed up and want to play my games again!
Thanks everyone!

Here is my setup

alienware MX15
Bios version A08 1.00
Intel i5 CPU M540 @2.53GHz (4 CPUs) ~2.5GHz
Memory 4096mb RAM
AMD Mobility Radeon HD 5000

Im running Windows 7 64bit

Answer:Horrible FPS in games that I used to run fine.

Found this guide in GW2 tech forums
and some suggestions here

Generally, keep drivers up to date, adjust GPU settings, and game graphic settings. Check game tech support forums for FPS threads, you can relate to.

This has been an ongoing issue.
It's come to the point where I'd actually like to know what's going on for educational purposes.
The games themselves run fine WHILE they run.

Whenever I play a game, it shuts the game down in 1-10 minutes or the computer will shut down. No matter what.
No other application will shutdown. More often than not just the game will shut down.

Troubleshooting I've done.

Cleaned out all parts with compressed air.
Monitored the temp of all components. Gpu not over 60. Cpu not over 75 at any point.
Replaced that graphics card.
Replaced that power supply and tested with 2 OTHER known working psus (Because this screams power issue)
Replaced the ram.
Replaced the OS hard drive and reinstalled the OS clean on a new one. (Issue occurs within Windows 8, XP and Windows 7)
Uninstalled Drivers for my graphics card and installed different ones (After cleaning the drivers out in Safe Mode)
Checked the motherboard for bulging/burst capacitors but it seems fine.
2 memory passes on my ram going through them systematically to make sure all the dimms work.

So it's the Processor or the Motherboard.

Has anyone had an issue like this before? Can anyone give me any tools to better diagnose the health of my CPU or mobo before I give up on this rig and go blow $2000 on another box.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Answer:No games, but everything else runs fine!

My Apologies if i have missed a fix for this somewhere. I have a problem with the volume control sticking as if i was pressing it down. This happens as soon as I press a key on the actual keyboard. The virtual keyboard will also not come up after an actual key is pressed and the windows button in the middle of the screen will not work either, only dims screen quickly and does nothing unless pressed a bunch of times really fast. I also had to roll back to an earlier driver version for the mouse pad to halfway work, this also was not working after an actual key on the keyboard was pressed. I Have done all driver updates with no luck.

I recently just put a new gpu and motherboard evereything was working fine but I had a few issues. I took it to the shop and they fixed it. when I tried to run any online games my fps would be horrible but offline it would be fantastic. I am using the same connection/router I used before, before I was having no issues but since I got it back online games are unplayable my gpu is a gtx 780 and my cpu is a i7 2600k.

Answer:Low FPS in online games but my connection is fine

You may not have the latest LAN drivers for your motherboard. Go to the manufacturer's website and update them, and see if that helps.

Answer:w530 i7 won't boot or post with 24GB or 32GB of RAM, but all slots and sticks work with 16GB

Hello and welcome,
I'm way out of my comfort zone answering this since I've never had a W of any kind....
ISTR that you need a quad-core processor to support 4 RAM slots.  i7-3520M is dual-core.
Please don't take this as gospel, but maybe it gives you something to check.
Hmmm, here's an on-topic thread

I am trying to get my two sticks (2x 2Gb) of Corsair RAM (CM2X2048-6400C5C) to work in my Asus P5Q Deluxe mobo.
Both sticks work perfectly because I have tested them in all slots individually and the computer works flawlessly.
However, the problem that I'm having is when I put both sticks in, be that in A1/B1 or A2/B2.

With both sticks in, the computers powers on, the fans spin up but the computer progresses no further and does not POST - a blank screen.

What could be wrong? Is there a setting to adjust?

Answer:Mobo & RAM: two sticks individually - good, two sticks together - bad

The sticks should be in A1/A2 or B1/B2. Try that configuration.

So I have been plagued with a problem that has plagued me ever since I had my processor reseated in hopes of solving a boot-up problem: YouTube videos will consistently cause a BSoD upon even so much as scrolling into them. I thought I solved this problem when I uninstalled then reinstalled Adobe Flash and Shockwave, and I think it did work on browsers, but just now, viewing a Flash video on Steam crashed it.
Meanwhile, a cursory test of the Witcher ran without so much of a flicker. Hey, that rhymes.

I'm highly tempted to just reformat at this point, but half a terabyte would definitely not fit on a DVD, so I'm turning to the forum for advice.
EDIT: I might be jittery from the nasty surprise, but I think browser YouTube is causing it to stutter... No, the video itself seems to be stuttering...

Suddenly I can no longer watch movies. Games play, cds play, audio fine. But I put in a movie and it's like there's no disc here. We've watched movies on it for over a year, so I checked multiple movies that once worked. I've followed the troubleshooting, tried to update driver. The wizard could find no better driver than what is already being used. I DO NOT get an error message. I just don't get anything to show up either under My Computer or in Media Center or Media player. This stumps me. I read somewhere "Security Update for Windows Media Player 6.4 (KB925398)" was a problem but I even went to add/remove programs and couldn't find that particular update, so I couldn't uninstall that. I have a gateway with a tsstcorp dvd +_ rw mlti format double layer drive and Windows XP Media Center Edition.
Thanks for any help.

Answer:dvd movies stopped playing - games, cds fine

I have an HP a1540n desktop with two R/W CD/DVD drives and two megs of RAM. Recently both drives stopped showing or copying DVDs. When I tiried to copy DVDs I get a message that advrcntr2.dll is not on this system.

I went on the internet and downloaded this .dll and put several copies in various media players and on my Desktop. Still no success. What should I do next and what might be causing this problem?

Been getting BSOD when playing CS GO regularly (and immediately) and occasionally on WoW. The best way I can explain the issue is the screen starts to flicker with various shapes and lines, then the display goes out as if I am opening a game in full screen, then my sound starts to repeat, and the cycle ends with a BSOD. I do not have the error # right now, but can probably get one if I need to. I've tried troubleshooting issues myself, tried various settings in both the games, reformatted, and even upgraded my graphics card from a gtx 460 to a GTX 760(the issue started to happen regularly with the 460, immediately after upgrading it did not occur for about a month before it started again). I do not get the issue in Dota2 or heroes of the storm. Not really sure what to do...

Attached is the DM log.

You probably never updated your powersupply as well. Unless that has around 430Watt or more, it may not be strong enough to handle the extra memory and SATA-disks.

Hi there, I'm not sure where else to turn, as I've done lots of other 'fixes' (re-install drivers and clean install of Windows) but this BSOD never seems to go away.

As the title states, it ONLY happens when I'm on the program Second Life, and it doesn't always happen, some days I can go for a few days without a BSOD, others, I'll log on and instantly BSOD.

I've included the Log collection so someone could take a look at is, as I'm not sure what I'm looking at.

Any help is appreciated!

When playing any game on this Qosmio X-70 laptop, the keys are often not very responsive and I have to press the keys often multiple times for them to do what they should. Outside of games all keys respond without any problems. It is unfortunately making playing games on a gaming laptop somewhat impossible.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Many thanks.

Answer:Qosmio X-70 - keys very often not working in games but fine otherwise

Very often means not always but sometimes. Correct?
Did you notice the keyboard problem playing just some particular games or all games?
Is this issue noticeable using external keyboard?

hardik99 Hello;Allow me to welcome you to the HP forums! No, this is not a battery issue. Laptops are designed to lower performance when running on battery in order to conserve power. If you go into the Start Menu and enter "Power Options" you will be able to change the Power Plan your laptop uses. Here's a thread that discusses the different plans: Luck

Here's my problem. I play Yahoo games on my dell laptop (Inspiron 6000, Windows XP home edition w/ service pack 2, 512mb RAM, plenty of space of my hard drive). The java applets load fine, but when I'm finished playing and try to close the window, it usually doesn't close properly. The window may close, but it stays visible in my taskbar at the bottom of the screen and it often interferes with popup windows and opening other programs until I force it to close using Windows Task Manager. I use Microsoft Internet Explorer (v. 6.0.2900.2180.xpsp_sp2_gdr.060301-1519 with SP2 update).

I assume this problem must have a fix and that it's probably been addressed somewhere on this forum as well as in a thousand other places on the Internet since it has happened on the last three computers I've used with the same operating system!! But I've searched and searched on Google and on this forum for a solution and I can't find a thing. So now I'm finally posting. Please help.

I built a computer for my wife over the summer, and she gave me to me for my birthday. But, recently I've been having a number of blue screen problems when I play games. I've tried replacing my RAM, and had problems with one of the sticks the other one only showed 3 errors after 11 passes through Memtest, so it may be due to that.

I didn't know that CCleaner removed minidumps, so these are the only one's I can provide. I've had a number of errors from ntoskrnl.sys

Answer:Numerous BSODs whenever I'm playing games, fine any other times

I'm going to go with bad RAM

First, disable driver verifier

Next, please run these tests and report back the results

2. Prime95 - Run all three tests for 3-4 hours each or until fail -

Hi I am new here and was wondering if anyone could help me. The sound on my windows 10 laptop is not working properly on apps. It is fine on videos eg Youtube or Netflix but when my children try to use their educational games the sound misses most of each word so you cannot work out what the instructions are. I have tried a different browser, I usually use Chrome but installed Firefox and this made no difference. I have also checked that i have the latest flash player update. Does anybody have any ideas as to what to try next?

As you can see, I SHOULD be able to play games like halo combat evolved AND RECORD IT! but I'm having problems, explorer.exe is at 20,540 right now, AND THATS LOW compared wit what it WAS... and then schost.exe is at 27,184, why are they so stinking high? I can record most of the time with fraps, and then I will randomly drop down to 5 or 10 fps, or like several hours go, 2 fps. I also am playing halo at the lowest settings, I can barely use this thing and system Idle process is using FULL cpu right now, I'm sure thats why I'm lagging, how to I stop that? Answer:With Core2Duo, is XP 64-bit worth it for playing games, or is regular fine?

Considering very few games offer a 64 bit version, and add in the possible driver incompatibilities, it's probably not worth it. All eyes are on Vista at this point to see if 64 bit Windows is ready for the masses. There have been countless threads on this subject, so I'm sure you'll find more than you'll ever feel like reading.

I have experienced this problem for quite a while now with a lot of games;

I used to be able to play the following games just fine:
Gunz: the duel

and some other freetoplay games. they worked great and I enjoyed playing them.
Anyway, now, some years later, when I try to play any of those games I get the following Bluescreen stop error:
***STOP: ERROR 0x0000008E (0xc0000005, 0xB9DFCAE5, 0xB9C42B4C, 0x00000000)

this is what I tried to do so far:
cleaning my pc (wiping all the dust from fans and RAM that is)
uninstalling my videocard driver and installing again
scanning my pc with lots of software

Reinstalling windows fixed the problem for one of those games (gunz) but with the other ones i am still experiencing the same problem over and over, whatever i try...

I have uploaded the most recent minidumps. I hope you can help me.

oh right, my pc specifications:
2GHz pentium 4
GeForce Ti4200 (128MB I believe)

If you need to know anything else for you to help me please let me know

Answer:Blue Screen message with games that worked just fine.

All the dumps crash at khips.sys, which belongs to Kerio Personal Firewall. I found the following thread that says there's a conflict with any game that uses GameGuard. The error is the same as yours, but I can't get the process from your dumps.

The last post is dated February 22, so there may not be an update available. You can always try a different firewall.

I've had a little search before posting, but didn't see anything exactly like my issue.

I have a Ienovo laptop. It's not ideal for games, but it has always run everything perfectly well when played on low settings (for new games at least. Old games worked fine on any settings)
I'd happily play with 35fps on most games. World of Warcraft would run on 20fps, but I'd never get any lag.
No lag at all.

And I had a happy gaming life.

Then a Windows update went wrong and became stuck in the eternal boot loop of doom. In the end I had to do a complete system restore and start again from scratch. This is where the trouble began. After reinstalling Windows 8 I found that I would get either huge lag spikes or just constant high latency.

Just to make clear, the laptop's hardware hasn't changed. This is not a hardware issue. Before the reinstall everything ran PERFECTLY. After the reinstall, it is near impossible to play games online. Even very processer light games struggle. I want to make this clear because people usually immediately say, "maybe your hardware isn't powerful enough". Before the reinstall I was getting an average of 50-100ms on World of Warcraft. Now I get around 1500-3000ms. Again, I have an Intel HD Graphic Driver (which sucks, I know) but clearly, it used to run the games well enough.

I upgraded to Windows 10 because I thought that it might help. My problems haven't improved and I still suffer huge lag.

The problem: About a week a go my computer stopped connecting to all online games for apparently no reason (Wow, Steam, Sword of the New World). My internet works just fine, I can browse the web, stream video's, everything seems normal. But for any game it wont connect to the servers, the update servers, the news servers, nothing.

I have disabled my windows firewall, disabled my modem firewall, forwarded every port I could think of, checked all my internet settings about 20 times, checked for viruses, closed all unused programs... nothing.

My setup: I am running windows XP professional with sp3 installed. The wireless modem I am using is an SMC8014WG-SI cable modem. I am using a static IP address.

Here is a paste of my ipconfig /all info:

my brother and i both have the same, but otherwise seemingly unique, problem. i have googled the problem and haven't found anyone with remotely similar problems. no matter what game i try it with, it locks up with lan games. if it searches for a lan game( some games auto search, that really gets annoying) it just locks up. if it doesn't auto-search, itl lock up trying to host a game. i can play online games just fine. No problems connecting to our server pc for files either. just cant do a LAN game. i could realy use some help here. thanks to anyone who can help.also , these games all used to allow me to play multiplayer just fine its just in the past month or so that lan games stoped working.

Answer:Lan games lockup for any game, internet works fine.

what kind of router do you have? is it wired or wireless?

Hi. I'm new here but please help.. this is a weird problem & getting in the way of my work.

This is a new problem with the computer. My hard drive died & upon formatting the new one, this problem occurred.

64-bit Vista, high end comp.
I have 4 USB devices: a wireless network card, a mouse, a keyboard, and a midi piano.

The wireless network card works without any problems at all times but when I'm in Vista my mouse is very jittery and skips all over the screen. My keyboard lags and will occasionally freeze up and not read the input or freeze on a specific key & type that letter until it unfreezes a second later. When I'm playing my midi-usb piano it freezes up and plays strangely (it's basically the same problem for all 3 devices). My mouse is pretty much unusable.

What I found strange though is when I started up a game in full-screen, everything worked perfectly.

I have no viruses. I tried different devices, I tried unplugging certain devices. I tried disabling my anti-virus and restarting. The only thing that helps is if I play a game.

Both related to your video driver. Re-install using these instructions.
When upgrading your graphic driver you MUST remove all traces of the current driver. In order to do that we recommend using - Driver Sweeper

When it is removed then download and install the fresh copy.

Hello everyone.

Currently, I live in a college apartment that has internet for the building. Not that many people are here, so I figured it would be okay. Here is a speedtest:

As you can see, it should be decent. It IS decent when I'm browsing the internet..facebook, email, youtube, etc.

It is also fine when I am downloading files.

But when I play games in Steam, it is very slow. When I search for servers, the pings are all 1000+. When I join a game, my ping is 500-600 and it's unplayable cause of how jumpy and choppy I am.

The thing about this is that when I download steam updates/files, it downloads at regular speeds!

How can I fix this? What settings do I look at? I've heard of port forwarding and things like that, but I am not sure exactly what to do.

One huge detail: This very same internet used to run the game fine, as well as World of Warcraft (I haven't tested that game with the internet now since I quit a while back), but there was a huge power out, power went out for 5 days, and now it's running slow.

So anyway, any help would be appreciated. Basically, why are games running super slow when everything else is pretty good?

Answer:Internet working fine in browsers, but in Steam games? Slow
