Toshiba Satellite P205 S6337 Power Issue.

Question: Toshiba Satellite P205 S6337 Power Issue.

Ok I have done a ton of research online about what could be wrong with my laptop. But I cant find anything about my situation. When I plug the charger in I get a blue charge light on and it stays on. I dont have a battery so I cant tell you if it will charge. But to my knowledge I dont even need a battery to turn on the laptop. I can use AC. When I hit the power button the power light next to the charge light turns on for 5-10 seconds and then shuts off. I can do this over and over till I am blue in the face. By the way when i hit the power button nothing happens inside the laptop at all. No sound or movement. Now i have tried to hold the power button with out it being plugged in for 30 secs to 3 mins and still the same routine. I reseated the memory and also taken out the hard drive and DVD drive. Still nothing. Can someone help me to troubleshoot this machine.

PS does the fingerprint reader have anything to do with it not turning on?

Preferred Solution: Toshiba Satellite P205 S6337 Power Issue.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Toshiba Satellite P205 S6337 Power Issue.

Do I only need to use the recovery disc? What about the Windows Vista? Is it included in the disc?

Thanks

Answer:I want to re-format my Satellite P205-s6337

Recovery DVD contains operating system, all necessary drivers, tools and utilities.
When you use recovery DVD you will have clean preinstalled operating system with ?factory settings? again.
Please note: all saved data on the HDD will be erased. So, before you start recovery installation back up all your important data.

Good luck!

Totally need another HDD for music/other files.
Really don't want to buy a dock such as.. http://www.thinkgeek.com/computing/drives/a7ea/.

Is it possible that I can install a second SATA HD on this notebook?
I'm not too good with working with notebooks really.

Anyone have any instructions on how i would do this?
And how to install another GB of ram?
I have both on my old notebook.

Answer:Satellite P205-S6337 - Can I install another second HDD?

Hi

Did you check your user manual?
Usually the user manual provides already such infos.

I?m not quite sure if an second HDD could be possible. Check bottom of the unit.
Some series are equipped with a second HDD bay. You could try to remove the plastic cover which secures such HDD bay and could check if there are some HDD connectors which would make the second HD upgrade possible.

It seems that this notebook was also equipped with 2GB RAM? So it could be possible to upgrade the RAM up to 4GB. But in my opinion it?s really not necessary to have 4GB RAM inside if you are using the Windows 32bit OS.
The point is that your 32bit OS can use max 3.2GB RAM due to the 32bit limitation.

So if you want to upgrade the RAM then I would recommend taking 1x 1GB and 1x 2GB RAM module.

Every time I try to take a video with camera utility -> no sound.

If I go to sound and microphone properties it is always muted for my internal atpi jack and when I unmute it and go take a video, it automatically mutes itself again.

Any ideas?

Answer:Satellite P205-S6337 - Microphone is always set to mute

Hi!

Make a driver update. You can download it from Toshiba:
http://www.csd.toshiba.com

And have also a look in the Realtek driver program. You can find it in the control panel, the name is ?Realtek HD Sound Effect Manager?.
There you can also disable/enable mute and configure the sound options.

Hi,
this is my first time here, so let me know if I did something wrong in the post or any thing of that sort.

Info:
Toshiba Satellite P205-S6337
Windows OS: Win XP Pro SP3 x86(x32)
BIOS Version: 1.40
RAM: 2GB
CPU: Intel Core2 T5300 @ 1.73GHz, 1.73GHz (Dual Core)

At first I was watching a video on my laptop with Media Player Classic, then I did a windows update, after I did the update and restarted my computer I tried re-opening the video with Media Player Classic, then once I did it kept Freezing, then giving me a BSOD (Blue Screen Of Death) saying:
"igxprd3
Beginning dump of physical memory
physical memory dump complete."

So I kept getting that when ever I tried watching a movie, so I figured it was because of the windows update since it's not the first time the updates from them messed every thing up. So I reformatted and once it got done after I'd install all the driver's I'd restart my computer, once the Windows is almost fully booted the screen will start to bog down then finally go completely black, the computer seems to run fine once it does it, but just no screen, so I went into safe mode (F8) and would either disable or uninstall the video, after that it would run fine, just it's not using the video card and all graphical stuff going on is bogged and looks bad, and I installed older and newer versions of the video card and it still does it.

Since I'm more savy with desktop computer's and never liked laptop's much, but from what I've be... Read more

Answer:Satellite P205-S6337 - Bluescreen and screen black with display driver

Hello

Generally speaking graphic card exchange is not possible because the graphic card is fixed on mainboard. In this case the whole mainboard must be replaced and you can ask an authorized service provider for help.

One point would be interesting: Can you install Windows from Toshiba recovery disk? I ask this because it would be interesting to know what happens with original factory settings. So you can determine if it?s hardware or software problem.

I am unable to power on my Toshiba P205-S8811. The power adapter is supplying the correct voltage, but when connected, not even the power connected LED illuminates. This machine worked a month ago, then stopped suddenly. The adapter was checked with a meter, and the power adapter plug receptacle appears to be seated at the edge of the case. Ideas? Beyond that, how do I take it out of the case to check connections? I have removed what seems like 20 screws, and still I cannot remove the case...

Answer:unable to power on my Toshiba P205-S8811

You are going to want to open this computer up. http://www.irisvista.com/tech/lapto...check the voltage at the mainboard where the DC Jack cable attaches. This can rule out some things. If you get correct voltage at the mainboard, should be 19v, then there is a problem with your mainboard. If your don't get any voltage, check the solder connections at the DC jack. You will have to peel back the shrink wrap around the wires and check there. If they are good. Check the continuity between the pins of the DC jack and the end of the cable. You should get very low resistance. If it's high, then check the resistance between the pins of your DC jack and the leads of the jack where the wires are soldered. If it's high you will want to replace it. The only other thing would be bad capacitors or MOSFETs. Or it could be the NEC / Tokin cap.Hope this helps.

Keep getting 'FlashCard app has stopped' or words to that effect. I'd have posted with Toshiba if they had a forum.

System is running Vista Home Premium (WETHTM).

Answer:Toshiba Satellite P205-S6277

This looks like a problem with a pre-installed application form Toshiba for you memory card reader. You need to find out what program this is exactly and try to uninstall and re-install it. You could check the Toshiba site to see if there is an updated version of the software or just get it back through your Toshiba recovery program for applications.

Run msconfig and look for that “FlashCard app” on the startup tab for some clues. You can also try disabling it and rebooting to see if that has effect.

I have a Toshiba P205-S6237 laptop that came with Vista preinstalled. I reformatted the harddrive and installed XP. I'm now having problems with the wireless card, i can't connect to the internet or to my network. the computer says that it cannot locate an active network adapter. looks like i need drivers but i cant find any. any suggestions?

Answer:XP drivers for Toshiba Satellite P205-S6237

If it came with Vista, it is possible that no XP drivers exist for the device. Much hardware on laptops is proprietary and the drivers available only from the manufacturer. Have you checked Toshiba's site? Did you find chipset drivers and drivers for all the other hardware?

Hello,
I'm having a problem with a driver. I have a Satellite P205 Toshiba laptop. It's running windows 7 home premium 32 nit. The driver is for: Mobile Intel 945 express chipset family(Microsoft Corp WDDM 1.0) The driver is up to date and i think it might be corrupted or something. What keeps happening is whenever i open a game i have the display goes black and then comes back up and has an alert that says: "Display Driver Intel Graphics Accelerator Driver for Windows Vista stopped responding and has resolved". After this alert comes up (about a second later) either the screen freezes up or the screen looses the display entirely. I don't know why his is happening, i have the driver up to date i have also unistalled and re-installed the driver and it still doesn't work. Also the alert message i got says the driver is running in Vista while i am running Windows 7. Does anyone have any solutions they can give me?

Answer:Display Driver not working for Toshiba Satellite p205

Bump! The problem still persists. When i open the game program and everything loads up the display flickers and comes back on with that error message before freezing completely or going to black. The driver for my display accelerator is up to date and has been re-installed 2 times. I think its weird that the error message refers to Vista when i have windows 7. Any suggestions are appreciated. Thanks

It has power but that is all. Can not run the hard drive, noting shows up on the monitor. The fan is working and gets hot, screen is black, hard drive light starts to light for only a second after power button is pressed then never lights again. DVD drive will spin a DVD but will not boot a bootable DVD. Removing RAM does not product any beeps.

Connecting an external monitor does not produce video.
Is anybody there with the some problem? What could it be?

Answer:Satellite P205-s6287 won't power up

Try this: Remove the battery and disconnect the AC/DC Adapter, wait 30-40 minutes and than connect the AC/DC Adapter and turn on the notebook first time without the battery.

Tell me what happened.

Hi there, I have a toshiba A75 laptop that does not boot when on ac power without a battery beyond bios. It shows the splash screen but then dies on normal boot.

When I have the battery in and the unit is powered off It does charge the battery.
When the battery is fully charged, it will run and boot into windows but does not recognize the ac power at all. It just drains the battery, then when the battery is at 0 it shuts off and this is while connected to AC power and the LED see's the AC power.

When on AC power I can boot into bios and it will sit there for days without a battery, but when I try to get to the OS it just shuts down. I have replaced the mobo twice. I have replaced the hard drive as well. The odd part is that with the hard drive out of the laptop, I can get the laptop to run with out any power failures. It just recycles the media device failure message but does not crash.

I have tested the power supply on other laptops and it seems to work just fine.

Any one have any ideas?

Answer:Toshiba Satellite A75 boot/power issue with AC power

Since you have replaced the system board twice, this probably does not apply to you... but we have seen a number of Toshibas with the same or similar motherboard where the power jack on the board became loose or disconnected. A new jack had to be obtained and soldered back into position.
If you bought used boards or refurbished boards, this difficult jack problem could have been the cause. It requires a special cold solder technique and is awkward to access, but when done properly by an experienced tech, it can save a laptop.
There are several Dell Inspirons and Sony laptops with the similar problem.
We have seen costs in a shop as high as $160 for this repair... but the part is only $6.00 so I don't know how they justify the high cost.

Hello,

Here is my problem. A few days ago while online my screen went black! I tried to move the mouse assuming the thing had timed out or something and nothing worked. So I hard shut it down. Yes I know not my best move. However, now it wont do anything. No lights no power indicator light, even though it is plugged in and has power. I checked just to be sure. When I try to power it up, the power light comes on blue for a sec and then goes out.

I have noticed that my video card or something was going out, so I thought that may be it. but I should still get lights right?? Anyway about the video thing, not sure what its really called, but my picture was going this crazy poopy green color.

Hope someone can help.

Thanks,

Sweets

Answer:Satellite P205-S6287 Wont power up!

Hi Sweets,

Sounds like it?s time for an authorized service provider now. ;)

If your notebook won?t boot and shuts down itself you can do nothing because it seems to be a hardware problem, maybe the mainboard, RAM or something else.

If you go to an ASP the technicians can check the notebook and repair it for you. The guys are friendly and it?s always interesting to talk a little bit with them.
By the way: On the Toshiba website you can search for an ASP!

Ok, I am fully aware of the black screen of death issue, which I have along with everyone else who didn't pay attention when buying this comp, but this morning I tried to turn it on and I get a blinking battery light, but nothing else. I took out the battery and tired with just the AC Adapter plugged in, no blinking light, nothing. With the adapter unplugged and the battery in, I still get the blinking light. So I figured it had to be the adapter. I went out and bought a new adapter, but no dice. Anyone else have this problem? Know any possible way to fix this or what's causing it?

I have a power up issue with my Toshiba Satellite A505-S6033. About a month ago my laptop suddenly shutoff and is showing no power incoming/charging. When I try removing the charger and plug and holdong down the power button it ends up not doing anything andiI've tried for about 5 mins. It does however light up for a split second when I remove the battery and plug the adapter in; it makes the power led flicker red and out again. I'm thinking it was just fried/motherboard dead but since its lighting up I'm hoping that's not the case.

My Toshiba laptop was working fine with the AC adapter plugged in (the battery was on it's last breath and would not charge at all, so I always had to keep it plugged it). I had to move so I unplugged the laptop (did not shut down). After the move I tried turning it on and it would not.

The AC Led light is on, so it's not the adapter.
The Battery light is amber and flickering (it wasn't flickering before)
When I press the power button to power up the laptop - the Power and the CD/DVD Led lights go on, but not the HD light. And the screen stays blank.
I hear no sounds, seems the HD is completely dormant.

There are a few files on the HD that I absolutely have to have. I'm not too concerned with getting the laptop to be operational, I just need to get those files and the laptop can be recycled.

Any ideas? How to get it to power up at least once, so I could copy the files?

Answer:Toshiba Satellite power issue with AC adapter pluged in

Try taking the battery out of the laptop and powering the laptop on (with the AC adapter plugged in obviously). Another option for recovering the files would be to get an adapter to connect the laptop drive to a usb port on another pc.

What type of ac adapter do you have, voltages and have you tried another type of ac adapter ?

I don't know for sure, but... it sounds like something is wrong with the ac jack.
Those can be replaced easily if you know how to solder, the part will cost less 7 dollars USA wise but shipping to you might be another issue due to your location.

This toshiba P205 laptop is running Vista 32. It has run for over 2 years, and recently the screen started to fail (or so it appeared). The screen will be grey, no cursor or anything, but the backlight works. I can plug into VGA monitor and operate the computer. I checked the screen connections and wiring, all good. It was an intermittent problem for about a month, and then it completely failed. I did a complete system recovery, and my screen was back. Worked fine for a couple days, and then on a reboot, it went grey again, and won't come back up. VGA output still works fine. Has anyone heard of something like this? The screen will not display anything, even the BIOS splash won't display, although I can change boot priority via F12 as it boots. I don't want to go through another day+ of recovery if I don't need to (2 years of updates takes some time). I don't know if this is something Toshiba will fix if I send it in, especially since the laptop is from 11/2007. Any help is appreciated.

I have a Toshiba P205-S6287 that I love.  I had to update the display drivers when Windows 7 came out.  That is the last update Toshiba put out in 2009. They work fine.  When Windows 8 came out, Microsoft put out new drivers through Windows update.  Update installs the Intel 945 express drivers twice and when the computer boots, it freezes on a black screen. I have to go into safe mode and disable both drivers and the computer works fine with generic drivers, although the display won't sleep.  I can reinstall the Intel/Toshiba Windows 7 drivers and it will work right for a week or two and then Update will install the set of drivers and lock up my computer again.  I have tried disabling Windows Update for the drivers but it locked up again the morning.  Does anyone have any idea?  It always locks up on a day when I need the computer in a hurry.

Almost certainly the problem is that the current rating is wrong, if the laptop needs
6.3 A of current, it won't function on less (just as you can't use a 3A fuse for a kettle!)
Unfortunately it must be the right current rating, I know, I've been caught that way too!

Answer:How to recovery my Satellite P205

Hello

I presume you have an US notebook model. Am I right about that?

Just short comment: usually the recovery DVD is delivered with most of notebook models. In case that recovery DVD is not delivered there is maybe an option to create own recovery DVD media for further handling. Please check all documents you got with your notebook. Maybe somewhere you can find info about that.

Im working on a laptop right now and im having the hardest time figuring out what the exact problem is... quick rundown...:

Computer turns on...
Sits at Phoenix Bios option screen for a normal period of time...
Then begins to Beep...non-stop...i know all about beep codes but this is an interesting one. The beeping wont stop unless you hit the F8 key.

Going back a few steps.. This computer had Vista on it...wouldnt load what so ever..i managed to get XP on it...

To contune...

After you hit the F8 key a few times it moves on to the normal Windows XP loading screen..
Windows comes up..LOOKS normal...but has a mind of its own.. When you click start it wont let you select a specific applet...it will only stay on what ever one is at the top left of the start menu.

If you manage to get into a folder, same thing happens, can only click on the icon thats on the top left...

Also.. Most of the keys on the k/b dont work....
The key pad works, but most of the normal keys do not, like Enter, delete and many others...allthough all of the F(x) Keys work.

Talking to the customer i managed to squeeze out some info.... for some reason she was runnin on external power, no batt in, and she admitted she leaves it plugged in 24/7. recently she said shes had a series of power flux'es which even scrambled her garage door opener.

The RAM is fine, The HD seems to be fine, the only thing im guessing it could be is the MOBO.

I'm thinking the power fluxes may have fried something on the mobo as well. Have you tried any other operating systems, like a Linux Live CD or Freedos Live CD? Try those two out just to make sure the cursor and keyboard issues are hardware. I'd do that, it's easy enough.

I doubt the keyboard is broken b/c of the other problem's you're having, namely the cursor issue and the relentless beeping at start up.

Does anyone have any idea how to upgrade to 4GB from 2 GB on the P205-S6307? I have the most current BIOS and am running Vista (not that that matters!)

Gents, is it possible to increase RAM memory to 6 or 8 GB Windows 7 in the Satellite P205-S6337?
Can it use Windows 7 , operating in 64 bits ?

Thank you

Answer:Memory upgrade on Satellite P205

Maximum RAM capacity for this notebook is 4096MB.

Generally speaking you can use 64bit OS but check at first if this model is supported for 64bit operating systems. Without support there is no sense to install 64bit OS version due to missing drivers, tools and utilities.

Answer:Need help with the drivers for Satellite P205-S6267

Hello

Just for info: every time you need some driver download it from http://www.csd.toshiba.com/cgi-bin/tais/su/su_sc_home.jsp?

As you can see your notebook model is not WXP supported yet and I presume you must to wait because you need exact designed tools and utilities for your notebook model. At meantime I think you can live without brightness control option. In my opinion it is not so important. Try also to use Windows power saver options. I am pretty sure you can use them until Toshiba offer WXP tools and utilities.

I've had my laptop since late February 2008 and I bought it new. I set it down as I always do before I go to sleep and it had been running perfectly before doing so.

I woke up this morning and tried to turn it on and it would not and kept restarting. The Startup Repair keeps coming back unsuccessful, as well as System Restore. It will say that it was successful, then restart and will not turn on. It did something similar almost a month ago; I had turned it on to find that it was restored back to factory settings. System Restore worked perfectly for that and I have not had any similar problems up until now.

Is there anything I can do to try and fix this without taking it anywhere? I really don't have the money to take it anywhere right now and I desperately need my laptop. Thanks.

Answer:Satellite P205-S6287 will not start.

Sorry buddy but I am a little bit confusing. The notebook will not start but you have done system restore. How to understand this?
What happen exactly when you press power button?

Have you done system restore in Safe mode or what?
Can you start up your notebook with AC power supply only (removed battery)?

Answer:Satellite P205 - OS does not recognize DVD drive

Hi

Did you mean that your CD/DVD drive is not listed in the device manager?

Did you check the BIOS if the CD/DVD drive has been recognized properly?

Please check this!!

If the CD/DVD drive doesn?t appear in the BIOS then I would say that the ODD malfunctions.

Answer:I'm looking for the XP drivers for Satellite P205-S6307

This notebook was designed for the US market.
Check the Toshiba US site:

If you will not find any XP drivers on the Toshiba US site then try some singles XP drivers for Satellite P200 from the Toshiba European driver page.

Hi,

I have had this laptop for about 5 months but I needed to recover my computer. I was half way thorugh the recovery and it encountered an error. It was corruped i can't remember what it was exactly because a couple of months ago.

I googled it at the time and it was corrupted. Since i have been using windows XP but it isn't supported for this model so that means its hard to find drivers and everything.

Anyway i thought it be a bit clever and install windows Vista via the upgrade disk that came with my computer and i managed using my key that is printed under the system.
The only problem was it would not activate.

I'm guessing because it was a OEM serial number but the phone numbers it gave me to activate windows were dead.
I need the recovery disk sending to me but i live in cyprus so i dont really know where to start.

Can anyone help please?

Cheers
Oliver

Answer:Satellite P205-s6257: Need Recovery CD

Hi Oliver

It can be problematic because you have probably an US notebook model and your local service partner will probably say that they can offer recovery DVDs for notebook designed for this market.

It will be interesting to know which error occurs while recovery procedure.

I really do not know what you can do. Either you ask for help by service. They should start recovery procedure to see what happen exactly or you can obtain Microsoft Vista installations DVD. All drivers and other Toshiba stuff you can find on Toshiba US support page.

Upgrade is for me not the best solution. I prefer clean OS installation.

Hello guys. This is my first post here. First at all, thanks in advance for any help you can give me. I'm from Costa Rica so excuse me if my english sometimes gets messed up.

I know this is an old thread. I double checked any possible option before i decide to post my situation. But none of them seems to work for me.

My problem is this:
I got a laptop Toshiba Satellite A105-S4334
Model number: PSAA8U-14M02K
Systemboard Toshiba number is: V00068590
Systemboard number is: 1310A2041316
What happened to my system is the like you guess it wont power up. Last time my brother used, it was working fine, he let the battery run out of power so we could start charging it back from 0. But when we plugged nothing happened, no lights, no charge no anything.

i tried everything, from removing the battery to replace hard drives an other components.. (with the help of a expert). Eventually i took it to the toshiba support center and the guy only tells me that is the systemboard what is wrong with the computer.

Now, i will like to know what exactly went wrong but they wont tell me. they just tell me that i have to replace the component.

Now here comes the thing.... is the second time in less than a year that i will have to replace the motherboard. First time it was under warranty so they change some defective systemboard along with some memory. 6 months later it happens again.

The first time it wasn't so drastic. it gave me some signs of failure so i took it right awa... Read more

I'm attempting to fix a laptop:

Toshiba Satellite L455-S5975

It was thrown and was able to power on. I took it apart to see if it was fixable. While trying to turn it back on I couldn't get it to start back up. Any ideas where I could have gone wrong? You couldn't get it start back up? That means it worked perfectly fine until.........? What?

If it you found it in the trash and it never worked, then it's broken. How much money do you want to spend trying to fix it?

I'm using a Toshiba Satellite P205-S6267

Recently my laptop started to lag and then it just shuts down by itself. I turned it on and after loading windows it shuts down again. After leaving my laptop alone for an hour, i turned it on and it makes it works perfectly except the laptop is silent (no fan or whirring noises, usually my fan operates as soon as turn it on). After an 30 minutes it shuts down again! I assume it has something to do with overheating now.

After searching for similar problems I heard users get the heatsink clogged with dust. Now i'm not sure if that's the problem but I do know my laptop is pretty dusty and I never cleaned the inside. Also i have used it for over a year. Should I get my laptop cleaned or is it something else. Also how much should it cost to clean/repair the heatsink and fan and the dust?

Answer:Satellite P205-S6267 - Shuts down automatically

Hi

I think it?s time that you clean the notebook because you use it over a year and I clean my notebook every 2-3 months. I?m always wondering how much dust came out.

But to clean the notebook you don?t need professional help. You can do it yourself using compressed air spray. This could blow out the dust from the cooling ventilators. Therefore you must not disassemble the notebook and it takes only few minutes. You can buy compressed air spray from every computer shop normally.

Hello,

I have a P205-S6347 and a P205-S7347 and neither laptop will read any kind of CD. Whatever CD I put in the drive I get a do you want to format this "blank disc".
I can watch any DVDs and I can burn CDs and see CD's I burn on the computers. But if I want to load software for my camera for example it doesn't recognize the format.

I called Toshiba and the only suggestion they had was to reinstall to the original software but I told them I have had this problem since purchasing the computers 2 months ago so reinstalling the software won't help. Plus I can't believe that I should have to reinstall everything.

Any suggestions would be most appreciated as I am very frustrated.
Thank you

Answer:Satellite P205-S6347: Cannot read any CDs in HD-DVD Drive

Hi buddy

To be honest I don?t think that it?s a ?really? and CD/DVD drive problem.

You said:
> But if I want to load software for my camera for example it doesn't recognize the format.

What did you do exactly?
Did you burn some files on the CD from camera and the player didn?t read it? Or what?

Generally if you burn the own CDs or DVDs you have to check if the CD/DVD is compatible with your CD/DVD drive!!!
Not all medias are supported and works with the notebook CD/DVD drive.

Usually an user manual contains a list of compatible CDs and DVDs.

You could also test several CDs and DVDs from different manufacturers.

This makes me think that laptop is stuck in sleep mode.

Hi

I bought a new Satellite P205-S6307 laptop online supposedly supporting 4GB RAM. When I received it, it only had 2GB. The online vendor repeatedly said the extra 2GB was in the post but it never arrived. Realising it would be cheaper to purchase another 2GB chip than to take them to court I did so. The chip I bought is the same as the one installed which is PC2-5300-2GB/200P

When I fitted the second 2GB chip to the computer it will not boot, even to the BIOS. Individually both chips work but together they won't.

The online spec sheet says the maximum RAM for this model is 2GB but CRUCIAL.COM says it will take 4GB. I do realise that running Vista 32bit it will only recognise 3GB.

My question is; is this model capable of taking 4GB RAM (2 x 2GB) and if so what can be my problem?

I hope somebody can help

Answer:Does Satellite P205-S6307 supports 4GB of memory?

Yes, the notebook is abele to handle the 4GB of memory.
I mean you can upgrade the notebook to 4GB using the 2 x 2GB modules.

I think your problem is that you have used either not compatible modules or the modules would malfunction simply.

The notebook handles the DDR2 667MHz (PC2-5300) 200-PIN SODIMM modules.
So maybe you should check replace the modules and check other.

I am using a Satellite P205 with Vista OS. The Toshiba FN functions are displayed by either pressing the FN key or moving the mouse over the top of the display screen. It is the mouse over activation that bothers me.
Often enough, in general use, my mouse will enter the area that triggers the display and if I use the left mouse button the associated function is activated. If I am working quickly this will happen unintentionally. I am finding this increasingly annoying and would like to disable the mouse over activation. If I want to use the FN option, I want to do so with the FN key.

Does anyone know how to disable the mouse over display?

Answer:Satellite P205 - mouse activation of FN display

To be honest I am wondering you ask this. I know, it sounds now stupid but I will tell you why.
If you don't like some function it is logic to check all available options for ?something?.
So if you open ?Settings for Flash Cards? you will find one option there ? *?Allow the mouse to bring up the cards?.*

Just remove the check mark for this option and the Flash Cards will be shown when you use FN key only.

Bye and if you have more questions you are welcome. ;)

Hi

I have no clue why the touchpad does not work even you have installed the right drivers? did you?

Are you sure that the touchpad is not disabled? Usually you can disable the touchpad using the key combination FN+F9. Check it.

The Sat P205 is very similar to the Toshiba European model Sat P200.

Maybe you could download the both Touchpad drivers (Alps Electric and Synaptics) from the Toshiba European page? choose one of the P200 series and check the drivers!

Hi everybody!

I'm having a Toshiba Satellite L50-B-1DJ. It has an 750 GB HDD, but that wasn't enough for me. So I bought a Toshiba 1TB HDD. I undid all the screws, carefully (using my driver license), lifted up the plastic and removed a HDD.

BTW, I really like that platic solution on the HDD!!

Then I realised, that all my stuff is still on it.
So I put the HDD back, planning that I'll copy everything on my ext. hard drive.
Well I screwed it back, got the battery back in, put the AC adaptor back.

The LED was on, indicating that power is flowing, battery is loading. I pressed the "Power-On" button, and nothing happened. Pressed it again still nothing. I plugged the battery and the AC adaptor out, I held the Power button for 30 sec, put everything back still nothing. I got scared. Opened the back once again, just to take a look at, if anything slipped out. Nope.

Everything is A-OKAY. What to do? Did I void the warranty? I hope not.
Can I repair myself without voiding my warranty? I hope so!

And also: I bought the laptop in Hungary, but I'm in Germany. Can I get it repaired here, in case my warranty is valid?

Thank you for your help!

Sincerely,
Bertold Juhasz

Not sure if anyone can offer any advice on this one. Basically I bought a laptop from someone who I work with for my son as an xmas present. Paid 400 for it which I was told was reasonably fair at the time, it was 14mths old.As of yesterday it has apparently died. When it is connected to the power supply there are no lights, nothing. The power lead is warm so I am assuming that part is ok. When I wiggle the power lead around there is no intermittent power coming through, so I think the power jack is ok so that leaves me with the motherboard. I have read on some sites that it can be pretty expensive to repair, some companies offer to change the whole mother board whilst others will repair the faulty chips. Not sure whether to send it off to someone or take it down to a local computer repair shop (I dont want to be ripped off more than I already have)!Has anyone else had a similar problem, or can someone recommend a good repair company to use.

Answer:Toshiba Satellite A665 won't power on.

When you are trying to turn it on are there any bleeps or do any lights flash in any kind of sequence ?

A couple of things you could try and that is a cold boot and/or resetting the BIOS.

A cold boot is when you remove the battery and the AC power cord then hold the power button in for 40 secs - 1min.

Have you tried booting up with just AC and the battery removed ?

Recently I dismantled my laptop to fix the power socket on the back. Having done a good job on that I assembled it only to find that it would not boot up and the only thing that does happens is the orange power L.E.D. at the front flashes.I have read some information from Toshiba Technical Service & Support which states, and I quote :"Toshiba Europe has identified that some notebooks manuafactured in January and February 2000 may have a fault that could prevent the notebook from starting up. This fault has been reported on some Celeron(tm) processor based Satellite 4090 systems operating at 400 MHz as well as Pentium(r) II processor based Satellite 4100 and Tecra 8000, operating at 400 MHz only.Affected notebooks can no longer be started and the DC-IN LED at the front of the notebook blinks. Intel and Toshiba have developed the solution to this issue that has been implemented in manufacturing (Intel revised up the module to REV 505) and any affected notebooks can be repaired relatively easily."End of quote. If anyone can tell me what this repair solution is I would be very happy !!!Thanks

Hi all and thanks in advance.

I'm trying to repair a Toshiba Satellite 2455-S305 that will not power on after being dropped on it's corner. It hit on the corner where the speaker and power jack are.
When I plug it in, the power light and battery charging light come on. If I press the power button, the power light comes on, but I don't hear anything, see anything, or feel any vibration to show that it's actually trying to boot or anything.

I opened it up, took it apart and reseated every connector, RAM, and drive and am still seeing the same problem.

The power jack is removable, and attached via cable to the motherboard. It looked like it was in pretty good shape and the cable and connector did not seem to be stressed.

I also tried plugging it in to an external monitor with no results.

Any suggestions?

We first noticed a problem when the battery icon went missing on the taskbar, went to properties notifications & checked, then noticed battery wasn't charging. Used for several hours with no problem, I was plugged in not using battery. Icon went missing again & after once again checking this is notifications all of a sudded the computer just shut down. Can't restart, no power from adapter. If battery is in only the battery light shows. The battery isn't charged so that doesn't help much. Before taking to a tech or buying adapter etc is there anything anyone can suggest???? Thanks

Answer:Toshiba Satellite P10-833. Sudden power down

Hi Dimitri,

Sudden power downs without the normal shutdown process occurring can be caused by over-heating. Check that your notebook is not blocked with dust and debris in the area of the air intake fans and CPU heatsink.

I have an old Toshiba CDT Satellite model 2595 with Windoes XP. The current batery has been replaced and the last time it was used the following occured.

I went to use the cd drive and upon opening the drive tray, the screen went blank as if it lost power. Curently the AC power is pluged in but nothing happens when the power button on the laptop is pushed on. I'm sure that the battery is still charged. if not could this be a cause? Is there an internal cutoff overload swith that may have tripped.
Thank you in advance for you in advance for your help and assistance requarding thsi problem.

I am working on a friend's toshiba satellite a75-s2111 laptop computer. She gave it to me telling me it was not even turning on. I have worked with it and discovered 2 issues with the power supply. First that the power cord is a bit loose going into the computer and not always giving it power, however seems fixable when I plugged my rocketfish universal adaptor into it (piece 41 was used, even though this specific computer is not on capatibility list, which is what similar toshibas listed used).

However there is a second problem with the power supply that I am not sure how to even begin fixing. When the cord is plugged in and the computer is off, the power cord light on the front of the computer shows green and the battery light shows red. While in this state, the battery seems to charge some. If I turn it on, the power cord light and the computer on lights turn green, and the battery light turns off. The power is then drained from the battery and not from the power cord. The computer shutting down from lack of power when the battery is drained and refusing to run completely if I try to run it without the battery.

How do I go about fixing this second problem or is it even fixable? I do not want to suggest trying out a new battery unless I know for sure that would solve the problem, otherwise it would be $100 wasted if it does not work.

Thanks in advance for any help that can be offered.

Answer:Toshiba laptop power issue

Does sound as if the battery is dead, however I can understand your reluctance to buy another should that not be the real fault.

I am sure there are other more experienced people here that know about electrical circuits. If it were me I'd try and get hold of replacement power cord, exactly the same as the old one.
I'd take my Tosh to shops selling second hand Toshes and ask to use thier power cord to test connection. Or even ask about trying a new battery before you buy.
I might buy a new cord from Ebay.

If its an old machine then it will probably be the battery. And Tosh batteries when they go they just go!

Let us know what happens, I have a Tosh so maybe my fate will be yours

I was wondering if anybody can help me with my current problem. My laptop won't charge, nor will it start up. I had recently had AC adapter issues and had to get it repaired. I had soldered a new tip for the old adapter, and it worked for a time, but the solder was a horrible job and it got loose again, so I just decided to get a whole new adapter. Before the solder had come off of the old ad adapter, the laptop ran fine, receieved power, and charged the battery. Now with the new ac adapter plugged in, the power blue LED simply blinks blue while the orange battery light remains off. I was wondering if there was a quick fix for this. I have already tried taking the battery and AC adapter out and holding the power button for well over 30 seconds and I still receive the same result- blinking LED. Can anybody help me out here?

My laptop model is a Toshiba Satellite A135-S2426. As it is an old laptop, it's really not worth bringing in getting it serviced and I have a little knowledge about the laptop itself. Also a point of note, it isn't the AC jack on the inside, since i've removed the casing and checked on the jack...it's completely separate from the motherboard and when plugged into another ac source, it worked fine. The new AC adapter has a green LED lit meaning it's receiving power, and it's also brand new so i don't think it's that. But yeah, any help here?

Answer:Toshiba laptop power issue

Toshiba's are notorious for power problems. I had a Satellite P10-809, I paid a small fortune for it, and within 6 months I started experiencing power problems. I was also receiving a constant mild electric shock whenever my arm rested on the casing of the unit while typing.

I believe there is a class action law suit against Toshiba (http://www.mommamuse.com/2006/11/14/class-action-lawsuit-against-toshiba/). I was furious trying to deal with Toshiba as they denied any problems and more or less implied that I was imagining everything. In the end, I wrote off the 1,500 I spent on the unit and have never purchased Toshiba since. I have also warned every company I have worked for to boycott Toshiba.

I have a Toshiba satellite s855-044 and am having issues with the power. I have looked up on countless forums and have been able to find people with similar issues but not the same. Basically the issue is that it will not turn on sometimes and wont show any symptoms of having power. Here is what i know about it:
1. The issue only comes up when i power off the laptop while it is unplugged.
2. None of the power indicators on the front light up, however when you look at it in a pitch black room it is VERY faintly blinking (indicator for when it is plugged in)
3. It turns back on usually after 10 or so hours of messing around with it. (Pulling plug out and putting it back in. Checking connections inside, etc.)
4. I have 2 batteries as well as 2 power adapters (chargers), trying different combinations of them do not seem to make a difference.
5. I have tried the method of unplugging and removing battery and holding the power button for around a minute, no results from that method.

If anybody could help me out it would be greatly appreciated!

Hello everyone, I have a Toshiba Satellite P105-S6114 running XP. For the year that I've had it it has run great.  As of lately I haven't been able to use a CD in the DVD-R drive.  The CD tray opens, I put a CD into it, it tries to read it( I see the light turn on and hear the cd spin) but it just stops and won't recognize it.  I try to open it in "My Computer" but it just prompts me to insert a cd into the drive.  I don't know what happened in the past month to make this happen.  The catch is this.....  It will play a DVD just fine.  It recognizes it and plays it right away.  I updated the driver and even deleted the driver and started fresh.  Nothing worked. Has anyone ever heard of this?  Any help would be appreciated.  Thanks

Answer:Toshiba Satellite CD/DVD issue

Could be the particular CD you put in there. However, I once had a gateway laptop need a replacement Drive put in.  Maybe someone else has a better idea.

Answer:Need a list of compatible motherboards for Satellite P205-S7476

Hi

The Satellite P205-S7476 belongs to the PSPB3U series and usually all motherboards released for this series should be compatible with your notebook model.

The motherboard part number: k000051440 is compatible with Satellite P200 / P205 / X205 series and I guess it should be also compatible.

When I boot up Windows 7, after the Windows 7 logo my screen goes black. The computer is still on, I just can't see anything. I can access safe mode just fine.

If I disable the two Mobile Intel 945 Express Chipset Family drivers, I can get into Windows 7 however I can't use hibernate or sleep mode, and the highest resolution is 1280x800. I need a driver that works. Please help me.

I've downloaded all the drivers and tried them from Toshiba & Intel however none of them work

Answer:Satellite P205-S6237 - Display driver for Windows 7

Hi buddy,

It?s not a good idea installing all drivers you can find. This could muddle up the operating system and cause such errors.

Usually the drivers provided on Toshiba page are always work. At the moment I would recommend removing all display drivers that you have installed now (you can do this in safe mode). Then restart your computer (also in safe mode) and run a registry cleaner like CCleaner to remove old registry keys. Restart again and now install the newest Toshiba display driver for your model.

Your model is listed on Toshiba US page:

Hello.

I recently upgraded my laptop from Windows Vista to Windows 7 Ultimate (32-bit).
When I did I went through the typical rigmarole of updating my drivers and reinstalling some lost games or programs. What I didn't expect was for my camera to completely stop working.

I reinstalled the camera software, and it seemed to work after that until I tried to take a snapshot with the software. The camera will now record video and record audio, but it will not take snapshots (what I primarily use it for).

If I click the snapshot button, it acts like I clicked it, but no preview picture shows up and no new pictures are saved in my pictures folder.

Any ideas? Or advice? Or help? Thank you!

Answer:Satellite P205-S6287 - webcam doesn't take snapshots using Win 7

Hi

Maybe you should check the path to the picture folder again?
Maybe the webcam saves the pictures to another place on the HDD?

I am trying to install XP on my Sat P205-6347 Toshiba laptop and have everything working except for the Toshiba Hotkey Utility.

Does anyone know of a driver that works?

Thanks in advance.

The notebook seems to be a Toshiba US model. The drivers, tools and all other things could be found on the Toshiba US page. Form there you should download the available drivers.

Did you do this?

Hiya,

I bought a Satellite P205-S6247 from TigerDirect while I was in the USA. I'm now back in London and thinking about upgrading from the intel graphics module to a 'real' video card like an nVidia or ATI card, because I'd like to play a couple of games on this machine.

a) If I do swap the graphics card but leave the current CPU, I think the Intel T2080 (1.73Ghz) dual-core CPU should be powerful enough to handle, for example, team fortress 2 with all settings on lowest, right?

b) Is it possible to swap the graphics card?

c) Where might I buy a new one that I can be certain will be compatible for this laptop (is there a compatibility list)? I couldn't even find my laptop-flavour on toshiba's US or UK websites.

d) I always build my own desktop computers but haven't delved into laptop hardware much. Will I be able to swap the graphics units myself or will it be a more involved process that will require a Toshiba engineer to handle it? If so, can a UK engineer work on my US-bought laptop?

Many thanks,

David

Answer:Satellite P205-S6247: Can I upgrade the graphic card

A) The T2080 (1.73Ghz) dual-core isn?t a bad CPU. It is powerful enough to play games if you would use an powerful graphic card.

B) No, it?s not possible because the GPU chip is mostly fixed and soldered on the motherboard.

C) There is no list because an graphic card upgrade is not possible

D) The desktop technology is simply different and you cannot compare it with the notebook. The notebooks cannot be upgraded like the desktop PCs. Everything what you can do is to upgrade the memory or the HDD. GPUs and CPUs are not upgradeable

My Satellite P205 does not have an internal Bluetooth, but it is Bluetooth capable. I plugged in a Broadcom USB and it worked initially. Now I am getting an error message "Unable to load Bluetooth Stack device".

I downloaded the Toshiba Bluetooth and ran the installation program. The first window opens, and the bar fills to the end, and a second window opens and progresses to five blue bars. Another window pops up asking to have the device plugged in and then click OK. It sits at this point repeating the request every few minutes. The USB Bluetooth is activated just before each of the pop-ups, and then the light goes back out. I figured that it would be a time consuming process because there was an instructional sheet giving details on an unattended install. Unfortunately I'm not savvy enough to edit my install script.

Any help would really be appreciated. I was hoping to be able to sync my Blackjack II without the USB cable that I keep misplacing!
Thanks!
Bleve410

Answer:Satellite P205 Bluetooth Stack Installation-How long does it take?

When you use third part external hardware you must also get software for it.
Have you got some installations CD with BT software and drivers?

As far as I know Toshiba Bluetooth stack can be used on Toshiba notebooks with already built-in BT modules or if you get external device but with license for Toshiba BT stack.

We have a Toshiba Satellite laptop that is nothing short of disappointing...but that's another story. This laptop has Toshiba Power Management and I have the setting where I would like them but they don't seem to operate properly. When the laptop is left alone for 5 minutes it basically goes into hibernation when I don't have it set up that way. I have tried to use windows power management in the control panel but somehow the Toshiba Power Management overrules that. How do I make the settings work propertly and is there a way to get rid of Toshiba Power management so I can manage it via windows?

Answer:Solved: Toshiba Satellite Power Settings

I found it in control panel and uninstalled it...thought I had looked in there before.

Ok, here?s the story. I own a Toshiba Satellite A350 laptop for a few years. As every night, laptop was on, I press the power button making it go into hibernate and then pull out the plug (battery is out, since it is always on cable and it might save the battery)

The next day, I plug in the adapter, press the power button and nothing happens. Literally nothing. Black screen, not a single sound .. nothing. All I can see is the indication light that the adapter is plugged in, which lights up.

I searched the internet (using another PC, duh ) and found lots of similar issues with Toshiba laptops. Main solution seems to be holding the power button for 30 second, putting the battery in and restarting it. None of these methods help.

I took the laptop apart, checked (and disconnected) the CMOS battery. Checked the power button, which is working, cleaned everything.

Here?s the weird thing: I have an USB optical mouse and a keyboard connected. I noticed that ?besides the indication of the adapter- the red light of my mouse is on all the time and also the indication lights (caps lock, num lock) of my keyboard can be switched on. So there seems to be power on my USB as soon as I connect my adapter.

Hope anyone can help, because I ran out of options. Two friends looked into it, no one has a clue.

Hi!

Is it OK to uninstall the Power Saver v5.04 from a SP6100 as it doesn't seem to work properly, or at all?

I have already been checking and changing the BIOS v1.90 power settings also accordingly, but the machine still neither ever power-off the hard drive nor will go to standby sleep.

The only things working somehow are the screen saver and screen power off, but very rarely according to the settings' timing ...

Best regards,

Pete V.

Answer:Satellite Pro 6100 and "Toshiba Power Saver"

Hello Pete

I?m really wondering the Power Saver doesn?t work well on your notebook. This tool is one of the best Toshiba designed tools and it is very useful if you want to optimize notebook power consumption.

I really don't know what is wrong there but if you are not satisfied you can remove it from the system or simply use different ?power scheme? in power options properties.
Maybe you should try to reinstall power saver.

Have you noticed some other issue with your SP 6100?

Hi All,...

First Thank u for replying my previous question which helped me a lot. I have another question. I had a Tecra A4 laptop before which comes with Toshiba Power Saver utility which can control the brightness and various power profiles for Windows. I now have L40-17R laptop, which I cannot find the same utility for???

Can anyone tell me if there is a tool for managing power profiles for L40-17R model, and where can I download it?

Answer:Toshiba Power Saver utility for Satellite L40-17R

Hi

As you know for WXP Toshiba has offered Toshiba Power Saver utility but for Vista this tool does not exist in the same format. Many functions are now in Vista power settings. Toshiba Power Saver utility is also there but just with several options.

You can find it if you open Power options > Change plan settings > Change advanced power settings. There you will find Toshiba Power Saver Settings V8.02.00.

Hi, I need help with my toshiba satellite a215-s4747. There is no power when I press the power button when I plug in a AC adapter. no any light on or blinking.
I disassembled it, remove ram, modem, hot-sink, fan, cpu. I plug in a AC power adapter to the motherboard and use a voltage meter to measure it. It has 19.8v,
so will be the motherboard problem? Thank you for help!

Answer:Toshiba Satellite A215-S4747 no power on

What about the battery instead of Power Adaptor?

Also you may need to check for break in the power socket on the Motherboard (um usually underneath the Mobo )

Hi,

I have a Satellite A60-297ITA bought with XP Home.
Now I've bought an XP Pro and I've installed it reformatting all the notebook.
Then I've installed all the drivers downloaded from your site.
The Installation of pwrsav-sp-a60-xp-70302-en.zip seems to work fine, but at reboot I obtain an error:
A fatal error has occurred. This program will be terminated. code: 0x7E.
What can I do?

Answer:Toshiba power saver crash on Satellite A60

Hello

Unfortunately it is not easy to say why this error message occurs. It is very important that you use Installation Instructions document while drivers and tools installation because the installations order is very important for successful installation.

Try to remove power saver and install it again.

This is a Toshiba Satellite L25 - Model no. PSL2XU

The laptop won't turn on. I unplugged the battery and tried direct power from the AC adapter, and still nothing. There are no indications of life (no light to indicate charging, power, anything). I don't think it's a battery issue.

When I plug the AC adapter, and I take the battery out, the prongs that connect to the battery sustain a voltage (I checked with a voltmeter). I don't think the adapter is bad.

So what could it be? Is the motherboard just dead? A short circuit somewhere between the AC adapter and the motherboard?

My brother uses the laptop. He tells me he had issues keeping the battery charged. He bought a new battery, and he had the same issue. The battery would be drained faster and faster, charges would take longer and longer. Ultimately, at one point, he found it could not be turned on. This is his account of what happened, so I'm not sure it's 100% what happened.

Answer:Toshiba Satellite Laptop: power problems

Sounds very much like the cmos/bios battery is dead.
I have seen this happen many times.
If it is soldered in, then you are out of luck.
Sometimes leaving the laptop on charge for 24 hours can re-charge this little battery, and you may get it re-started.
