Laptop not detecting headset

Question: Laptop not detecting headset

Alright so I have a BRAND new Sony Vaio laptop with Windows 7, it's model # is VPCCW21FX. I got it only a week ago.
I play games so I connect with Ventrilo, but with this laptop it is not detecting my headset. It's a standard Logitech headset that connects through those pink and green jacks on the side of my laptop. It only recognizes the laptop's built-in microphone, however. This is what I've tried to get my headset's mic to work:

1. Disabling the built-in microphone. The laptop still did not recognize that I had a separate microphone plugged in through the jack.

2. Updating sound card's driver / rollback to previous, to see if it might work. It did not.

3. I tried to use the Ease of Access -> Install new microphone. The laptop would only still detect the built-in microphone, not the one that was plugged in through the jack.

I know it's not the headset's fault because it was working perfectly fine in another computer just this morning, and I tested it on my brother's computer a few minutes ago. His computer detects my headset. Yes I have the plugs in the correct holes, and no there are no drivers since this isn't a USB headset. The laptop KNOWS that something is plugged into the mic jack because it mutes the laptop's built-in microphone once there's something in it, but no sound is detected.

As you can see from the image, the Realtek microphone is the built-in one. My headset is currently plugged in, but it's not detected. This is the only thing listed:

The only thing I can think of left is that they sold me a laptop with a broken mic jack. Unless I'm missing one final possible solution.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Laptop not detecting headset

on that screen if you click on the microphone - so thatthe properties button highlights
click on that
another screen opens - click on recording TAB
on that screen - do you have 3.5mm Jack - anything you can enable there?

Well I have a Sony Vaio and just plugged a mic in (on vista) and it worked ...... so ignore above - that made no difference on my machine

I used start> programs> accessories> sound recorder
to test with

try that see if it works with that application

i've been having this issue for a while now, my headset hasn't been detecting. it is connected via the 3.5mm headphone jack. this is a problem i've had with every pair of headphones/headsets i've tried, so it isn't an issue with the model. the only reason i haven't noticed this issue until as of recent is because i've had a USB connected headset. now that i need to use the 3.5mm jack, nothing is detecting. i've tried to fix this issue, and all that has happened is that my headset shows up as "Speakers (Realtek High Definition Audio)", and will not register my microphone. any help?
note that these three screenshots are taken whilst the headset is plugged into the 3.5mm headphone jack (the only connector that came with the headset)

Hi, I recently bought a new headset due to one of the ears falling apart...

My old one was USB with a 3.5mm cable and worked perfectly fine. The new one I got has no USB and uses the green and pink cables. I've plugged them in and it seemed as if they were working well but I realised they're not actually picking up the sound from the microphone, they're playing my computers sounds.

I looked through other forums and found people saying that it may be a driver issue, so I updated and got the Realtek HD, which then showed the Stereo Mix in my devices. Basically what's happening is that Stereo Mix and Microphone are both playing volume at the same level and acting as if they're the same. I've tried disabling Stereo and keeping Mic but it still plays the computers sounds. I've tried vice-versa too. The "Speakers" device is also playing at the same level of volume.

And then obviously since it's doing that, it's playing my computer sounds through Skype.

Basically what I want to achieve is have the headset playing sound but also be able to speak through skype without it playing the sounds I have on.

Also, there's a little switch on the cable to act as a "Mic Mute" switch, if the Mic is ON then the sound is fine, if I switch it to OFF the sound is very echo'd and distant.

Answer:New Headset, not detecting microphone.

First, stereo mix should be set as the default recording device. Then any input device that is used will be heard.

As Windows only allows one default audio playback device, separating sounds or what's heard may not be possible or is an option of the application program. I'm not familiar with Skype so I don't know what the options are or do.

Hi,

I recently purchased a VersionTech EACH G2000 and I plugged it into my computer, but Windows does not recognize it in the playback nor recording devices. Help would be appreciated.

Answer:Windows not Detecting Headset

From what I see this has the two 3.5mm plugs and also a USB. I can't find out if the USB is just for the lights or if it is used for anything else in the headset. But, make sure you plug in everything.

As you have a Dell, and are you using the built in sound device? or have you added a separate sound card? If you added a separate sound card, you need to connect the front panel to the new sound card.

If you are using the built in sound device, try connecting the headset and mic to the rear connectors (Green and Pink) and see if it works there.

Windows will happily output sound to my headset but there is no input from the mic. I have a xonar dg as my soundcard.

The headset mic has been tested on a laptop and works
The microphone mute button the the headset cable is set correctly
The jack is correctly in
On plugging in (and fiddling with the jack) the mic I can see noise in CP/Sound window
It has been tested on the front panel, the soundcard jack & motherboard jacks
Drivers have been wiped and reinstalled
System restores had no effect
A reinstallation of windows keeping programs & settings had no effect
The mic is not muted or set too low in Control Panel / Sound
The mic in my webcam works correctly (USB)
Connections inside the case are not loose
Toggling the front mic option in Cp/Sound/Recording/(the mic)/properties/custom has no effect
I also managed to get the mic to work (badly) for a few seconds after windows reinstalled. After I plugged in the headphone jack, the mic went dead and hasn't recovered since.

The mic has worked on this PC before, it seems some setting / software / driver is mucking up.

Answer:Windows not detecting input from headset

I noticed the sound card can only handle up to 48KHz/24-bit recording. However the CP sound options would let me set it above this. Lowering it to the acceptable level made no difference.

Hi,
I am having trouble with my windows installation after attempting to install windows 10 a second time on the same machine, but different partition.
I have used a bootable USB device with the windows 10 installation (created with the same machine and the same settings for OS).
After pressing F12 and selecting the USB as the boot device, i started the installation process and got to the stage where you select which drive / partition to install windows. But the list only contained the USB device i used to start the installation process, and the SSD did not appear when tried to refresh / reload drives (or unchecked the "hide incompatible drives" checkbox).
After canceling the installation process, i was met with the following message when rebooting windows:
"Your PC/Device needs to be repaired.
The Boot Configuration Data file is missing some required information.
File: \BCD

I have tried many different things BEFORE i got to the step above where I was able to start the USB stick and consequently ended up with the error.
However when the error occured the BIOS was reset to factory settings and i was able to log in to windows (and listen to spotify for an hour or so) before i tried the install that gave the error:

So my nephew dropped something on the corner of his mom's laptop. She said it started making a funny noise so she shut it down and rebooted. Now it won't boot up and she gets a message saying " No bootable device". I went into the BIOS and under Hard Drive it says "None". I took out the HD and the put it back in, but that did nothing. Any advice? I am thinking the HD is just dead, I already ordered a new one. I wanted to stop by here and see if any one had any ideas so she could recover here data though.

Answer:Laptop not detecting HD

If it's physically damaged which it sounds like there's not much you can do other than pay a service to recover the data in a clean room which is very expensive. Do you hear the drive spinning? Is it making any clicking noises?

After installing the new drive you should talk to them about the benefit of having a working backup.

I've bought a new Router to link it to my DSL modem. I did the steps and everything worked pretty good on my laptop and netbook.

Today it's working pretty good on my netbook which has windows XP but now my laptop - windows 7 is not detecting the router at all even I am near the router.

What can i do ? I am using D-link Dir-600 if thats help

thank you

Answer:Laptop not detecting the router

Has the Windows 7 machine been able to connect in the past?

I suggest reinstalling the network card drivers. Right-click on the device in Device Manager, and select Uninstall. Reboot, and let Windows automatically install the latest drivers. Be sure you are hard-wired into the router first, if possible.

Hi there, I have the Best Buy version of the THinkpad Yoga 14. for about 2 weeks now. When I first bought it, I tested it out and the pen works. Now I am in class and I tried using it and the pen is not registering. The touchscreen works (e.g. I can draw in OneNote with my finger). I tried hovering the pen over the screen and it is not registered at all. I know the pen automatically charges when it is in the holder. So I think it should be fine on battery.  So I don't know what else to do to get the pen to work??

I've never had problems with this before, but i went travelling and have come back and my laptop simply doesnt seem to detect my network with wireless.

My wireless itself is activated fine and is detecting upto 6 other networks none of which are mine or i can access but i am with Linksys and it's just not detecting that. Internet works fine when i access plugged in with a cable.

We also have another computer in the house with a wireless stick, this however does pick up the Linksys network perfectly, so it must be something to do with the laptop.

Little confused, so any help would be appreciated!

I have a NVIDIA GEFORCE 8400 GS video card and i have a dell vostro 1500 laptop with a 7 pin s-video output. i have the cable and just bought it and hooked it up to my tv

Answer:TV not detecting laptop from S-video

The problem is most likely not that the TV doesn't see your laptop, but that the laptop isn't doing anything with the TV yet.

I have an NVidia GeForce 7400 Go in my Dell laptop. I'll doublecheck your version specifically, but in the meantime, how my interface works... Right click on your desktop and select "Nvidia Control Panel." In the left pane, you should see "Set up multiple displays," or something of that sort. That should give you the controls you're looking for.

Problem is, once I got the new HD in the comp and installed windows, all was good till I eventually got to the desktop.
I couldn't change the resolution or any video settings. I couldn't connect to the internet or create a network connection because it didn't detect my network card.
I uninstalled all the hardware and rebooted. It detected all the hardware but all I choose the recommended install it couldnt install it so it asked to connect to the internet, which I cant.

HI everyone!

I have a problem with my DAMN LAPTOP SCREEN!! Honestly, I'm starting to loose sleep over it.

I have come to a conclusion, its not the inverter, its not the backlight, the bios doesn't need flashing or anything like that... The "Digital Display" (laptop screen) isn't even showing up on the "Device Manager".

This is really strange because it is plugged in and all looks grand. But, I have noticed that I have a strange thing in my device manager that doesn't belong in there "Built-In Infrared Device". Could there be a conflict somewhere and its not reading the screen as a display?

Someone please help me.

Thanks

Top suspect(s) is/are firewall(s). What firewalls?

For each machine ...

Open a (black) Command Prompt window:
Hold the Windows logo key and press r; in the Run box type cmd and click on OK.

Type the following commands:

nbtstat -n

IPCONFIG /ALL

[Note that there is no space between the slash and ALL.]

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter.
Paste the results in a message here.

If necessary use a text file and removable media to copy the results to a computer with internet access.

Before I go into the details of my troubles, I would like to first explain that this problem persists with my laptop ONLY. I have tried my brothers laptop (running on vista) and my parents home desktop (XP) and both of them do not have the same problem as what I have on my laptop.

I own a Cyber Acoustics AC-201 headset and since I bought it, I have not heard the end of the humming noise that can be heard in the background whenever I talk. I usually converse in Paltalk chatrooms or with my friends on AOL Instant Messenger. I'm not quite sure why there is only a humming noise in the background with just my laptop and no other computers that my family owns.

I have tried using the sound recorder on my computer so I can hear what others are hearing. Yes, you can make out what I say fine, but the annoying buzzing sound is just a terrible nuisance.

How do I fix this annoying humming noise? It is most certainly coming from my microphone and not my speakers or headphones because when I mute my headset, the humming stops.

Any bit of help is greatly appreciated!

Thank you,
Matt

I am having problems increasing the volume on my Gateway laptop with the headset plugged in. The indicator shows it is at full volume. When the headset is pulled out, the speakers seem to be quite loud. I have tried two sets of headsets to eliminate the chance that one of those was at fault. How many volume controls are there on this rascal? Any help would be appreciated.

Answer:low volume on laptop headset

Check that the jack you're using is marked for headphones--there may also be a 'line out' jack' which will have a separate volume control.

Right click the volume control icon near the clock, and left click open volume control. Click 'options', and 'properties'. With the bullet in 'playback', check all the boxes. Click ok, and you may have even more volume sliders--

Hello everyone, I've got an annoying issue that is bugging the heck out of me.

I plug my USB Xbox 360 Controller into my laptop, then the Xbox 360 Headset into the Controller. I set the USB Headset Device (Xbox 360 Controller) as default..

Now the Mic and Speaker works, but its like the volume resets itself randomly.

Like I'll be listening to something and it will just go *pop* volume goes from muted all the way upto where it was (I don't mean it shows it on Windows as muted then slowly goes up, I mean thats what it basically does).

Now if anyone could replicate this, or knows a fix for this, I'd be most grateful. (as always)

Answer:Xbox 360 Headset + Laptop

I should also add the easiest way to replicate this;

Requirements
• USB Xbox 360 Controller
• Standard Xbox 360 Wired Headset
• USB Port

Steps

1. Plug your Xbox 360 Controller into a USB Port on your computer.
2. Download any drivers as needed.
3. Plug your Standard USB Xbox 360 Headset into your Xbox 360 Controller.
4. Go to control panel and go to the sound settings.
5. Under the playback tab, set the Headset Earphone as default.
6. Listen to some music through the headset and just go about what you usually do, you'll see what I'm referring to.

Note: Disabling the Microphone on the headset has no effect.

I can't connect to my laptop using bluetooth (it finds it but can never connect), so I was hoping for a way to make the laptop appear as a headset instead. WIDCOMM looked like it might work, but the install hangs with the message "Please plug in or turn on your Bluetooth device" and I'm not sure what to do.

I have some axent wear cat-ear headphones that come with a microphone that plugs into a jack on the headphones themselves and then has a single separate cord to plug into the laptop. The laptop also has a single headset type jack. I'm on an HP Envy running windows 10. It also has beats audio on it if that's of any help. When I plug it in the computer recognizes a headset however it has it lists it as disconnected. It says the same in regards to playback sound however I can hear it through the headphones. I've looked through a bunch of forums and the HP support website itself and nothing seems to work. Some people suggested going on realtek audio manager but even though the laptop has realtek on it the audio manager doesn't seem to be here

I just downloaded Vonage's Softphone service which allows me to make and receive calls on my computer. I've got a Compaq nx6120 laptop, and I purchased the Logitech ClearChat Stereo PC headset.

My problem: The headset and microphone only seem to work when the laptop's speaker is enabled. This allows anyone else in the room to hear my conversations. I'd like to be able to mute my laptop speaker and still have my headset and microphone work so I may make and receive calls without broadcasting them to others in the room.

Any ideas/assistance would be greatly appreciated!

Answer:Headset vs. laptop speaker

Hi AML,

Try dropping into your 'Control Panel' and opening up 'Sounds and Audio Devices'. Once in there, click on the 'Audio' tab and check your 'Sound Playback - Default Device'. Just a note that before you do this, make sure your headset is plugged-in! You may be able to drop it down to 'Logitech' or similar and not have it blaring out of the speaker at the same time!

My laptop just stopped detecting them. It won't detect it at school or home and if I can't fix it by 3rd block tomorrow the techs will take it and that means it gets reformatted and I don't want that to happen. The wireless radio (what detects networks) says that it's on in some menus and off in others. When I go to the wireless radio's own menu it say's off but when I click turn on nothing happens. The icon on the monitor for the wireless radio is lit up but it still isn't detecting anything. Can anyone help me?

I purchased this laptop refurbished a little over 2 years ago I believe, and I've had issues from the start with the HDD, it qould boot up really slow, HP replaced it and installwd the wrong recovery software, and i got it back and then something failed and I couldn't boot up windows so I had been using Linux for most of the time I had the laptop.. Until I wanted to update to 10, so purchased the recovery media... And then they had to is send it to me twice..Leap forward, windows 10 is on the computer, task manager says the HD is running at 100%, I thought it was suppose to be that and there were no issues until the last month or so.Where it got really slow... Diagnostic tools gave a pass to the hard drive, never the less the issues seemed to be the same as when I first got the laptop.I reinstalled windows using the recovery media(other recovery methods were unavailable), and it seemed to work(there may have been issues, I just can't remember, but that was over a month ago). Windows wouldn't update so I tweeted to HP or windows on twitter and they said do a clean install 10. Did that, everything went smoothly, but some things weren't working properly, and eventually it just became unstable and would BSOD or Kick me from the system and tell me to run diagnoatic.Initially I could get back into the system, but if I rebooted, closed the lid or blinked hard enough it would kick me. I have just doen a reset of my laptop as it was very slow, and I have had it for 18 months and not had to do one in that time.

The wireless on the laptop was working perfectle this morning, but since the reset it isn't detecting any wireless networks.

I think the problem may be down to the fact that the current wifi card isn't the card that come shipped with the laptop as I upgraded it. I have tried to find the specific mini driver from the device manager but that isn't very specific and it is also saying that the drivers are up to date.

Can ayone suggest a solution?

Regards AF

Answer:Laptop not detecting wireless networks?

If you know the model of the wifi card, try googling for it's driver. I usually find the device manager not very good in detecting drivers.

Hi

Me and my sister have the same laptop with windows 7 ultimate 32bit running on each one. The problem is my sisters laptop is not detecting the laptop battery charger when inserted. Her battery and charger works fine as I tested them on my laptop and both fully functional and even my own battery and charger does not work on her laptop.

When the charger is plugged in no message or charging icon comes up, just the normal battery icon. I'm pretty sure there is something wrong with the laptop.

any help please?

Thanks

Answer:Laptop not detecting a working battery

Hello slizza and welcome to Seven Forums.

Could you post some additional information about the laptop like make and model? Sometimes a computer manufacturer installs their own software that controls how a machine will work. Just as an example, on a Sony Vaio they have what's called Vaio Care. This software can override the built in Windows 7 power plan settings.

In the meantime, you could compare the power plan settings on your laptop to the settings on your sister's laptop and make sure they're the same. You could also run a power diagnostics efficienty report to see if your sister's machine is showing any issues.

Power Plan Settings - Change

Power Efficiency Diagnostics Report

You could also open Device Manager and see if there are any warning symbols for the battery. This could indicate a driver issue.

When I click on the Wireless Network Connection icon it says "Wireless network unavailable." There's also an error message that says "The Dell Wireless WLAN Card is disabled. Use the Dell Wireless WLAN Utility to enable it." When I right click on the wireless network icon it says "No wireless networks were found in range. Make sure the wireless switch on your computer is on. To see an updated list, click 'Refresh network list.'" I don't have a wireless switch. I have a wireless enable icon and it says Enabled. My wireless network is working because my phone sees it and two other networks in the neighborhood. I couldn't find the Dell Wireless WLAN Utility. I also tried my iPhone hotspot. Laptop did not detect it either. Please help and thank you for this forum.

The Fn + F2 key combination is not the wireless switch?

I assume that you can download the Dell WLAN utility from Dell's web site. Use your Service Tag for easier searching.

HP Pavillion dv2500

XP Install CD is not detecting the sata hard drive.

Bios is extremely limited in options. Nothing that has to do with the operation mode of the drive like AHCI stuff. so I can't disable/enable that or anything.

I even flashed to the latest bios. nada.

downloaded the latest official chipset drivers and threw them on a usb drive and used F6 in XP install to add them (6 or 7 showed up in the list. tried each one separately). never once detected the drive when it got to the screen where you select which partition to install to.

In order to get Vista installed, I had to order the factory restore dvd that comes with the laptop because i lost it. It was the only way I can even install Vista.

So how the heck can I get XP working on this biznitch?

If there were any software changes just before this started happening, you can try to roll back Windows to an earlier restore date if you created a restore point. You can also restore the system back to factory settings via your recovery media, or by Alt+F10 recovery. Steps are posted here:

Hi 7 users, I have a problem for quite some time and I'm starting to get frustrated... Some time ago I bought a battery for my laptop (Asus G51JX) and, it didn't work, I've sent it back and bought a new one with the same specifications (11,1V, 7200 mAh, 9 Cells).

Now, when I start the computer on AC only, it works fine, but when I put the battery, the little icon on the taskbar goes up and down and then stops, If I remove the power cord, the laptop continues on but for my surprise it says "Plugged in, Charging" WITHOUT the power cord!, how is that possible? it is not from the OS because I tried another HDD with a completely different installation and it did the same, now my question is... Is it BIOS or the Motherboard?

I'm really looking forward for your help guys, I'm almost giving up on this and I don't want to

Thanks in advance,

Hi there, I have the Best Buy version of the THinkpad Yoga 14. for about 2 weeks now. When I first bought it, I tested it out and the pen works. Now I am in class and I tried using it and the pen is not registering. The touchscreen works (e.g. I can draw in OneNote with my finger). I tried hovering the pen over the screen and it is not registered at all.

I know the pen automatically charges when it is in the holder. So I think it should be fine on battery.

So I don't know what else to do to get the pen to work??

Hello all,

thanks in advance.

Answer:Laptop not detecting wireless network

Does your inspiron detect other networks (such as a neighbor's wireless?)
Have you ensured that the wireless radio is turned on? (a switch on the case or a key combination)
Have you ensured that the device is operating properly? (check in Device Manager)
Have you reinstalled the wireless drivers from the Dell website?
Have you checked to see that the wireless card is properly connected and seated in the system's motherboard?

Hello All,
*Sorry for the long post, I tried to include everything I have tried and seen regarding this issue...

I have a Plantronics USB Headset that I have used many many times on this Windows 7 Guest OS, for things like the Cisco IP Communicator. This has worked just about everytime I have connected it to the Win7 VM without problems until a few weeks ago
(*not sure exactly when or what caused it to start doing this).
Once the USB headset is connected to the VM the speaker Icon in the notification area of the taskbar gets a red X thrown over it, and hovering the mouse over it, it says
"No Output Audio Device is Installed". If I unplug the Headset the red "X" disappears from the speaker icon instantly.. However, sounds through the regular speakers seem to work just fine
(*i.e. sounds from the Win7 VM) whether the headset is connected or not.

If I right click the speaker icon with the X and go to the Playback Devices menu
(*screenshot below), I can see my Speakers and the Headset listed there. Right-clicking the laptop speaker icon and clicking
"Test" successfully tests the speakers and I can hear the sounds from the laptop's speakers. Then, doing the same for the headset does nothing, don't hear anything. Also, ... Read more

Answer:I can't hear sound from my laptop unless i use a headset...

I have the same problem on my Toshiba Satellite L755 laptop.  Headphones and external speakers work fine, but the internal speakers work for roughly 30 seconds & quit.  To diagnose the problem I booted from a Ubuntu DVD and tried it; got the same results.  That means it's a hardware problem.  So at first I bought cheap external speakers which circumvented the problem, but my wife didn't like the extra wires (women!), so I got a $35 Bluetooth speaker which sounds better and doesn't require any wires to the laptop.

Good luck.

I have recently acquired a 160GB Western Digital external HDD, unfortunately every time i try to plug it in to ANY of the 6 usb ports in my laptop, i get the same error message: "The specified I/O operation on \Device\Harddisk1\DR2 was not completed before the time-out period expired". The DR message changes every time i try another USB port, obviously. At first I thought it might be a problem with the OS, so I reinstalled Windows XP SP2, ran a thorough virus scan, but still it did nothing to fix my problem. Now the even bigger problem is that all my USB ports work properly with other devices and the external HDD works when i connect it to my desktop computer.

The laptop is a DELL Inspiron 9300, Intl Pentium M 1.8 Ghz, 1.0 gb Ram.

Does anyone have any idea how to fix this? Thanks.

So I've gone blue in the face for the past 2 days trying to figure out what's been going on with my HDMI port. 2 nights ago I was watching a movie through my Dell Inspiron N5050 laptop through my Panasonic HDTV. Yesterday, I tried to connect my HDMI cable to my laptop and computer, but nothing happened...So frantically I've been searching everywhere and trying what I have so far with no progress...

1.System Restore to earlier date when my HDMI port was working.
2.Toggle Computer/Duplicate/Extended/Projector Only and nothing worked(Also made sure tv was on the right HDMI input)
3.Tried 3 different HDMI cables and HDMI inputs
4.Uninstalled all sound drivers and Display Adapter(Intel(R) HD Graphics Family
5.Contacted Dell and had them try to reinstall drivers
6. Checked BIOS but I couldn't find any enable/disable feature for video.
7. Took battery out of laptop waited for 30 seconds pressed power button to reset.

Anything else you want me to try? I don't know why it would stop working for no reason. My Panasonic TV doesn't even show up under my playback devices and when I try and do a dual screen through screen resolution it says another display not connected. I'ved tried going Intel HD Graphics Control Panel as well...no such Luck! Beginning to think that my HDMI port on my laptop is broken. Please any other options?

Answer:Laptop not detecting my TV through HDMI cable anymore

You say you think the HDMI on your laptop is broken, but also that you tried your computer with the TV as well?

And first thing to always do when connecting a TV up through HDMI, check your screen resolution. It should be automatically detected and set after the TV and Windows talk to each other, but sometimes communication just breaks down.

And of course... You did select the right HDMI source on your TV, didn't you?

My HP laptop does not detect projector when projector plugged in. I have reviewed and followed the set up instructions at http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c03504591 Connecting to HDMI port on laptop (only video output) to VGA on projector usinf dedictaed cable. Running Windows 10 Home, 64-bit Version 1607 Display adapter is Intel (R) HD Graohices 5500.  Latest driver installed - version 20.19.15.4549 version date 10/11/2016. Display settings shows only one screen and is unable to detect the projector (which works perfectly well with my 10 year old Dell laptop running XP).  I have tried linking cables and starting prjector before booting up PC, and also booting PC then projector all to no avail. There have been various similar queries on the forum but none seem to have a definitive solution that has been confirmed as working.   Does anyone have the right solution to this issue?

Hello @rohitseth21 , Welcome to the HP Forums! I understand you're having connection issues on your 15-R005TX notebook.If the notebook sees the hotspot but doesnt see the routers SSID you might be better off inquiring with your Internet Service Provider or router manufacturer. Here are some steps you can try. Powercycle the network:1. Shut down your notebook.2. Unplug the power to your router.3. Unplug the power to your modem.4. Wait at least 45 seconds.5. Plug in the modem, and wait for it to come back online.6. Plug in the router, and wait for it to come back online.7. Turn on your notebook, and test your connection.Reset the TCP/IP settings on your PC:1. Go to your start screen/menu and type CMD.2. Right click on the command prompt icon and chose Run as administrator.3. In the window that opens type "netsh int ip reset resetlog.txt" without quotes, and press enter.4. Restart your PC and test.It may also help to reset the winsock catalogue:1. Go to your start screen/menu and type CMD.2. Right click on the command prompt icon and chose Run as administrator.3. In the window that opens type "netsh winsock reset" without quotes, and press enter.4. Restart your PC and test.Reinstall the network adapter drivers:1. I have an HP Pavillion dv6000 laptop which is installed with Vista. All of a sudden it is not detecting the wireless card. I can connect to the internet by connecting a cord directly to my router, but not wirelessly.

I tried doing a BIOS update and also took out and reseated the wireless card, but still does not show up under the device manager.

Would there be anything else wrong other than that the wireless card has gone bad. Is that a common thing to go bad on a computer?

The wireless card that was originally installed was a 802.11.g/b WLAN.

Does anyone have a recommendation for a website (other than HP) to purchase a compatible wireless card?

Thanks for any help!
