External Display on Standard VGA Graphics Adapter?

Question: External Display on Standard VGA Graphics Adapter?

Hey everyone, it's been a long time since I've had to ask anything on these forums, but I'm glad they're still here when I need them! I've done some looking into the problem, and it seems like there aren't many resources on my problem.

I'm trying to connect my television to my laptop, via an SVideo connection. The problem is, my graphics card does not, and CAN NOT, have its factory/updated drivers installed. The graphics card is currently being run under "Standard VGA graphics adapter" drivers.

(The reason I can't put drivers on the card is because it's fried. I'm suffering from a burnt-out, defective NVidia GeForce 8600M GS, like many other people, and I'm mired down in court documents that I'll be using against HP in small claims court.)

Are there another set of drivers I could try that would allow my laptop to use an external display?
Is there a way to set up an external monitor under standard VGA graphics adapter drivers?

Preferred Solution: External Display on Standard VGA Graphics Adapter?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I would like to know if there is anyway to detect an external monitor using the standard VGA Graphics Adapter as my graphics card.

Hello, I have a Aspire AX3950 that came with Windows 7 Home. I had to re-image the machine to Windows 7 Professional so I could install Visual Studio 2013. I got the software from my MSDN Subscription. After successfully reimaging the machine, the system only recognizes one of my monitors. It was working properly with the same two monitors before the windows update. I checked the Display Adapter and it shows "Standard VGA Graphics Adaper". It was my mistake for not checking the adapter before updating the system. From what I have found on the internet, this AX3950 has a graphic card coupled with the mother board. My question is, how can I get the original Display adapter working again?

Hi everyone.
I am so happy with Windows 7 that I have bought a new laptop Toshiba Satellite L50D-B, but I did not love nothing of the pre-installed win 8 at all, so I formatted the disk and copied onto it the last image I had of Window 7 and all my well functioning programs. The image came from a HP Pavilion 6xxxx, thus the drivers of all hard drive components needed to be replaced with that of Toshiba. I went on Toshiba site and found all drivers I needed of my new laptop and for windows 7 (32 first and 64 bit then). The only problem remaining is that I cannot replace the Standard VGA Graphics adapter with the AMD Radeon(TM) R4 Graphics. I have tried any methods I know, mounted and unmounted many drivers. I tried also to make a clean install of Windows 7 64 bit in a new partition, but the standard vga graphics adapter remains there impassible. Catalyst installs but does not see the display. I used DDU (Display Driver Uninstall), the sole program that has eliminated Catalyst perfectly from my new laptop, but the Standard VGA Graphics Adapter remains still unmovable. As i found suggested on the internet I tried to uninstall the old driver and reinstall the new in windows dafe mode. Is it possible there are some HP drivers blocking the installation of the correct AMD driver???
Any suggestion? I have the disks for restoring my satellite to its original horror Win 8.1 pre-installed state, if this can be of some help, to catch some 8.1 drivers, for example...

Small correction on that, it's the drivers for the Motherboard components that you need. There appears to be more to the model number such as Toshiba Satellite L50D-B-124 as an example, will help in finding the correct drivers.

Hey, I wanted to put some new games on my Laptop, and I got the Direct X 9.0c Compatible Graphics Adapter message. So I went online, and was instructed to go onto Device Manager and I found I had Standard VGA Graphics Adapter, so then I got some kind of update checker and it looked through my hardware and found that my Graphic Adapter needed updating...

I have already put some of the games I want on my laptop before now, and un-installed them when I ran out of space, and now I have more space I want to put them back on.

I tried a link for the Update, but it told me to use Windows Update, but it doesn't seem to work.

Does anyone know a free way of updating Standard VGA Graphics Adapter?

That would be helpful x :grinthumb

I've installed on the computer the win7 enterprise edition (x64) and many drivers could not be find. I've installed nost of them, except the display adapter.
It's stuck on "standard vga graphic adapter".
I have the AMD Radeon HD7570 card but no matter what I try is not working!!!
tried to uninstall the current driver, tried to download the driver from the AMD website (when executing it - it's running but does nothing).
when executed the auto detect from AMD website, I got the message "we were unable to find your product or OS"

Will be greatful for any help!!!

Answer:display adapter is stuck on standard vga adapter

Welcome to the Sevem Forums, Oraz.

If you still have the DVD of Windows 7 home edition and if it is also 64-bit then you might find the graphics adapter driver there which might get installed. Otherwise try installing Graphics Card AMD Radeon HD7570 in Windows XP SP3 mode.

Another option is to try installing the Graphics Card AMD Radeon HD7570 that you have downloaded in the safe mode. In case the this driver gets loaded in the safe mode then it shall install too.

Hi

I have an Acer Aspire 8930G. It's GFx card died a year or so ago, and I just bought a new one, a NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT DDR3 MXM II, from eBay.
When my laptop worked, it had Vista installed. So naturally I upgraded to Windows 7 Ultimate.

Now windows 7 has been installed, all updates been installed. All but one. the nVidia driver.

I can't seem to install it. I have searched the net for solutions. Found some, but couldn't go on.
Fx. tried to add some lines in the drivers .inf files. Put a line with my hardwares ID, but my hardware lacked some digits.

Anyways... I'm stuck with standard VGA graphics adapter. Today's the sixth day on trying to find a solution, and I'm about ready to boil my balls just to feel anything else but frustration.

Can anyone please help me?

Hey all, I just finished a clean install of Windows 7 and now my graphics card is unread by windows. I had this problem before and I was able to fix it, but this time my card is an ATI Radeon. I know I have to have a modified .inf file, but I don't know how to do that.

Here is the information on my laptop:
Model: Sony Vaio VPCEB390X
OS: Win7 x32
Graphics Card: ATI Radeon 5650 (not 100% sure though)

How do I get the correct driver install?

Thanks in advance!!

Answer:Standard VGA Graphics Adapter!!

If i am understanding your post correctly, I would download Speccy and verify your card model number, after that its simply a matter of going to ATI's driver download webpage here and choosing the correct driver for your card.

Hi,

I have recently formatted my harddisk and reinstalled windows 98SE. I nolonger have the CD's or floppy disks that contain display drivers or grahic adapter drivers. I am trying to change my screen resolution from 16bit colour 640x480 to
256 colour and 1024x768 resolution - I dodn't have the option to do this.

My graphic files are very hazy. I assume that I have to re-install my video/graphics card drivers.

Can anyone please tell me how I can find out what type of video/graphics card I have and if I can download the drivers I require off the internet.

Many thanks for your assistance.

Answer:Standard VGA Graphics Adapter

What kind of games are you trying to play?

The laptop you have I think uses the NVIDIA GeForce Go 7150M Graphics Chipset. This onboard chipset will not enable you to play most modern day 3D games.

As to the Aero effects, these are the minimum system requirements:

1. a 1 GHz 32-bit (x86) or 64-bit (x64) processor
2. 1 GB of system memory (512MB sometimes works)
3. a DirectX 9 compatible graphics processor with a Windows Display Driver Model (WDDM)driver, Pixel shader 2.0 in hardware, and a minimum of 128 MB of Video RAM
32 bits per pixel
4. 40 GB hard drive with 15 GB free space
5. DVD-ROM Drive
6. Audio output and Internet access (preferably broadband)

Here is a review on your IGP.

Probably nothing. You just need a driver for your card from Nvidia.

Hi there,

Just done a clean install of windows 7 on my Sony VPN-SZ5VWN and it has installed all drivers apart from the display.

It has a nVidia Go 7400 however when I try to install it it just states there is no nividia products.

If I try to uninstall the VGA driver, it asks me to restart and then, before I can do anything, it reinstalls the standard VGA adapter driver. I do get a solution saying to download the driver however this does not work.

The original drivers are for Vista and Sony provides no other supported OS for them.

Please help!

Thanks,

Tom

After reinstalling windows vista OS 64bit on my dell studio xps 1640, I reinstalled all the drivers that were on dell resource cd that came with my laptop. On my device manager there is still a yellow triangle with an exclimation mark next to Standard VGA Graphics adapter. I used to be able to use 1920x1080 screen resolution; however, the highest option now is currently 1400x1050 pixels and it reads default monitor on display settings instead of having HD Radeon 4670 option as it did before. My grahpics card is a radeon HD 4670. Could anyone possibly tell me what drivers I would need to download and install in order to get my screen resolution back to 1920x1080 and resolve the VGA adapter problem? I have gone to the dell driver website; however, the standard vga graphics adapter does not seem to be under the video drivers? thank you for your time and help guys >.<

Greetings,

Having a few problems and I was referred to here by a couple friends, so I'm hoping you can help.

My computer knowledge is around the level that normal people consider me to be a computer genius (doesn't take much), where as those who truly are would wonder how I even managed to install my OS.

So basically when it comes to my own computer, I know quite a bit about it and can manage to do or find whatever I need for it. But when it comes to doing something with another computer I'm near hopeless.

I have a very simple problem. I'm using someone else's old computer. It has Windows 98 second edition installed. The video display only allows 16 colors and I can't change the res from 640 x 480. I know that all I need to do is install some graphics drivers, but I'm not sure where to find them, or which ones I need.

The computer is the following:

Genuine Intel
x86 Family 15 Model 2 Stepping 4

OS is

Windows 98
Second Edition
4.10.2222 A

Also it doesn't have net access.

My other problem is that I have no idea what motherboard she has in it. She's not computer savvy, so she wouldn't have upgraded anything or switched anything out. Is there by chance a standard motherboard that came with this system? She's in Australia by the way if that makes a difference. I know that I could look inside, but I'm not sure exactly where to look and it would be a lot easier if I could show up with the ... Read more

Hi, I just installed Windows 7 Professional 64x. Previously, I had 32-bit Vista Ultimate.

I have a Dell Precision M90, with 4 gigs of ram, a 2.00 GHz core duo processor, and a Nvidia Quadro FX 2500M video card.

In the device manager, my display adapter shows as Standard VGA Graphics Adapter. I'm decent with computers, so I've upgraded video card drivers before. However, for some reason it is not allowing me to upgrade this driver. I have tried with both a 2500M driver as well as a 7900GTX driver (which worked for me in Vista).

I have also tried uninstalling the driver first, but it won't let me install another one before restarting and when I restart it just reinstalls the Standard VGA Graphics adapter. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

first try a driver uninstaller, I don't know any generic ones but i'm sure either somebody can post that or you can google it. if that doesn't work off the bat try the following....

uninstalling in devmgmt (do not delete driver files) and then run driver install as administrator. if that doesn't work try the same thing in safe mode. If that doesn't work try clearing cmos and then installing drivers. though if you clear cmos you might have to manually set it up or do optimized configuration.

I come up with a Nvidia 9200m graphics card. You can also try using this program to help with filling in your system specs. Speccy - System Information - Free Download

If your locking for the driver for it I would first try the manufacturers site since they sometimes modify the .inf file and it can cause you problems when trying to install the one directly from Nvidia

If you have any problems installing the driver the normal way by clicking on the setup.exe file, then post back.
Their are other ways to get it installed.

I had to reinstall windows 7 on my acer aspire 5560g laptop, I installed the drivers on the Acer site. I found the legacy updates for my cards and installed them. And I am still having problems.

The monitor is not showing the native resolution of 1366 x 768, it's topping out at 1024 x 768, it's refusing to let me use the built in screen savers. It's supposed to be a duel graphics system and the device manager lists two under the display drivers. Both are listed as standard vga display. One with the little yellow exclamation mark. It's driving me nutty. Can someone help me?

A few months ago I wiped and reloaded my computer because it had a virus on it and it seemed like the easier thing to do. When I reloaded everything the screen became more stretched and there is a yellow exclamation point next the the Standard VGA Graphics Adapter in device manager.
Specs:
Dell 1525
Intel174 Core153; 2 Duo T6500 (2.10GHz/800Mhz FSB/2MB cache)
2GB Shared Dual Channel DDR2 at 800MHz
15.6 inch display (1366X768)
Intel Graphics Media Accelerator X4500HD
160 GB SATA Hard drive (5400RPM)
Windows Vista Home Premium Edition SP1 32 Bit
Integrated 10/100 Network Card
Dell Wireless 1397 802.11g Half Mini-Card

So I've checked the Dell Support website and downloaded all the Video drivers and nothing worked. I'm not sure what to do.

Answer:Standard VGA Graphics Adapter (Code 10)

driver not installed correctly/wrong driver. uninstall the drivers from programs and features and then remove the video adaptor from device manager, reboot to safe mode and then use a driver cleaner to remove the leftover drivers. then do a clean boot so no apps can not interfere and reinstall the driver package.

Hello,

do you guys know where I can download a driver of my graphics card for windows 7 ultimate 32 bit?
I already searched on the net but sadly.. I couldn't find a driver for it. I also tried to update it but still no use.

here is the screenshot

Answer:Standard VGA Graphics Adapter driver

Without the exact graphics card model we can't really say. However, if its old and all that is available is the generic Windows installed VGA driver, you may be stuck with that.

Answer:Standard VGA graphics adapter (Code 10)

Can you say what your PC is? Make/model ?
Which Windows version are you using?
If you are not sure exactly what the graphics are then you can download this small program to give you info about it.
http://download.cnet.com/GPU-Z/3000-2094_4-10788513.html
You will need to visit the makers website to download the correct driver, when you have the information.

I have searched EVERYWHERE and read all threads and articles on this subject to no success. Most of the time the answers are 'install new drivers' or 'manually install drivers through driver > update " but I can't do either of these things.

After fresh install of windows 7 64bit sp 1 on a toshiba satellite s855d-s5253, I was going to install drivers as usual - I came across the display driver as "Standard VGA Graphics Adapter" - So I thought, okay so I just have to update and install driver for AMD Vision A10 ( It is a ATI Radeon HD 7660G). I know this is the right card, I used AMD Catalyst auto detect, I googled hardware ids, And also I remember this card from before I had to format the computer. I used an official windows 7 install disc, as well.
When it comes to trying to uninstall the driver, it always reinstalls itself as soon as I turn the system on - I have tried disabling automatic device installation to prevent this to no success.
And when I try installing the Catalyst stuff it ends up giving me a message like "graphics adapter not supported" or could not install because of the graphics adapter, etc. Basically I am trying to reinstall the drivers and its only picking up standard vga graphics adapter? not the Radeon HD 7660G. But it is definitely there. Have also tried safe mode....
I really am at a loss at what to do, this is really a pain as I cannot load any games on the computer!

Visit game.amd.com to download the appropriate driver. Install. That's all. Enjoy!

If it doesn't install well by running the .exe, use the device manager to install by right clicking standard vga and choosing update driver software. Browse my computer....Then go along and point it to the driver's extracted folder.

Get the 32 bit Windows 7 Catalyst Suite.

Hello. I recently restored the computer to factory settings and the graphics card won't work now. Before the restore it was working just fine but now I am stuck on the Standard VGA Graphics Adapter. The graphic card that I have I think it's a "ATI Raedon HD 5450 Series Graphic". I have already tried updating it and can't get it to work either. Here is a link for information about the computer, HP Support document - HP Support Center

And here are some pictures of what's going on.

so the story is I had to get my laptop fixed for overheating and this laptop used to be able to run Starcraft 2 and any game for that matter and now it can't run any game at all. and I was searching around about my graphics cards and stuff and then I found these 2 things which it says I have and I am 100 percent sure I never had those. I don't really know what to do so I am wondering if I can download a graphic card for this or anything that will help me play games again on this laptop.

After reinstalling Windows Vista OS 64bit on my Dell Studio XPS 1640, I reinstalled all the drivers that were on the resource CD that I ordered from Dell. On my device manager there is still a yellow triangle with an exclamation mark next to Standard VGA Graphics adapter. I used to be able to use 1920x1080 screen resolution; however, the highest option now is currently 1400x1050 pixels and it reads default monitor on display settings instead of having HD Radeon 4670 option as it did before. My graphics card is a radeon HD 4670. Could anyone possibly tell me what drivers I would need to download and install in order to get my screen resolution back to 1920x1080 and resolve the VGA adapter problem? I have gone to the dell driver website and called them on the phone but I can not seem to resolve this. I don't know if I need to turn something off or disable a driver to make this work, I'm at a loss and quickly getting tired of Dell. I followed the links from Triple6 back in Aug 2010 and it hasn't helped. Thank you for your help.

I have MSI GX-600 laptop. I recently installed Windows 7 wanting to see if it really was an upgrade from Vista. It was. It performs better, is more stable, have fever bugs. But, my graphic card wont work properly. And, when you have a gaming laptop it is essential for the graphic card properly.

My graphic card, an integrated GeForce 8600M GT, only shows up as a "Generic Non-PnP Monitor on Standard VGA Graphics Adapter". The computer cant even run the screen saver.

It seems to me that Windows 7 fails to find my graphic card. When i try to install the drivers from Nvidia the install stops ans says that my hardware do not support the driver.

I just recently tried uprgraded from Windows 95 to Windows 98. Upon finding that such a task was unsuccesful and my computer had no room for it, I was forced to format my hard drive; much to my dismay.

Once Windows 98 was loaded I went to Properties and then Settings to fix my Display. I was rather annoyed to find that the computer was telling me I only have 2 Bits or 16 Bits of color. I know damn well it is registered for 32 Bits and is running on FAT32. I cannot understand why it is doing this for me. I understand I will probably need another driver, but I do not know which one.

My Monitor is a Hewlett Packard Ergo 1024 and my CPU is a Compaq Deskpro ... Not sure of the numbers. Please, if someone can help me let me know. I am great with computers but am completely stumped on this one. I know that there was a previous discussion of this on another post set but I did all they talked about and nothing helped.

Someone please help me!!!!!!

Windows 7 32bit
A few months ago I updated my Nvidia GeForce GT 240 Graphics Card, for an Asus Nvidia GeForce GTX 650Ti Boost. Right from the start it was a nightmare. It centered around duff Nvidia drivers. I initially put in the ones on the disc that came with the card...Blue Screen. So I updated the drivers to the latest from their website...Blue Screen. Then I tried all the drivers in between, but the out come was the same. When I looked to see what it was loading, it wasn't just the driver but a whole load of other stuff that I didn't feel was neccessary or might cause conflicts. It is a Graphics Card but it also wants to instal Sound drivers and 3D etc.
So when, eventually I could only boot into Safe Mode I decided to only load the items I felt were neccessary for me. They were the graphics driver and Physics. I was nolonger getting a BSOD, however, what I am now getting is the monitor switching to a black screen standby. Although the PC is still on and running unseen. When it reaches this stage my only option is to switch off the PC and attempt to switch it on again. So now everytime I try to mess with it, my PC won't start without me having to do a system re-image.
I have discovered that the problem lays with the 'Standard VGA Graphics Adapter', which in 'Device Manager' shows as having an exclamation mark and says "This device cannot start (Code 10)". I've tried trying to update the driver, but the monitor just switches to stand by and I have to reimage a... Read more

Okay, I posted a while back about serious problems [ not that I am the first person ] I am having with my Standard PCI Graphics Adapter. As always, I only have 2 and 16 colors when I am running on a FAT32 and am registering for 32Bit. This thing is making me want to get rid of my computer because I fear it is too old to be able to help now. Someone gave me a site to download a new driver, but while it did give me more colors, the icons, fonts, screen in general, were seriously messed up. I could not reverse the process no matter how hard I tried, so I once again was forced to format my computer. Someone please help me, I'm going nuts over here.

When I first downloaded Windows 7, the resolution was something like 1024 x 786 (or whatever the number order is). I was told to update my video card, but since I can't afford to do that, I dealt with it. It was annoying, but I got used to it.
A few months later, I turned on my computer and it had magically fixed itself. The resolution was back to normal, my DVDs would play, yaddah yaddah. It stayed like that for a few more months.
Then, yesterday, I turned my computer on and it was back to having a tiny resolution. It tells me I need to update my video card driver, but when I did, it said that it was fine. Now I'm lost because I've done everything I know how to do whether it be updates or installs.
I'd really like to avoid forking over the cash (that I don't have) for a new video card so anyone knows how fix this problem on a Sony Vaio PCG-6L1L (VGN-SZ230P) (an ancient computer, I know), can you please help (with step by step instructions if possible)?

Answer:Standard VGA Graphics Adapter - Sony Vaio

I would start with re-installing the video drivers, both of them. From looking at the specs for that model laptop (click on Marketing Specifications to view the pdf),

Sony eSupport - VGN-SZ230P - Manuals / Specs / Warranty

it has both the Intel 950 (chipset Intel 945GM) and the Nvidia Go 7400, If that is in fact what it has I would start with the Intel driver first,

? Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator Driver for Windows* 7(exe)

and then install the Nvidia driver second (it's a beta, looks like Nvidia dropped support for it),

NVIDIA DRIVERS 179.48 BETA

They may not install as Sony is somewhat anal about allowing manufacturer's reference drivers to be used without them (Sony) first doing whatever it is they do to the INF's (they can't mod the drivers themselves, just the INF's).

If neither of those work you can try the Sony provided Vista drivers from ehre,

Sony eSupport - VGN-SZ230P/B - Software Updates & Drivers

Yeah so, every now and again i decide to update windows 7 64, just to see if it WONT make me have to do a reinstall, ya know for it to do some actual good. yeah not so much... Problems problems, problems, ever since i updated to win7...

this latest batch of problems has me kinda ticked and sorta fed up entirely, of course geeksquad is a joke of a company, who wont honor their obligation when i bought my laptop, but thats a rant for another day.

so this one day, i restart my computer, just like any other time, and next thing i know, upon restart, i have 8 bit. with a 800x600, i check to see if maybe its just a video driver issue, and my gforce is gone, it's replaced with " generic non-Pnp monitor standard VGA graphics adapter ".

To top it off, i forget what peice of hardware i had originally.

So now whenever i restart my computer, or shut it off, then turn it back on again, my screen looks as if an 8th grader created a new theme for my laptop...

if i want to to be "normal" i have to just shut the lid, and pray it comes back more appealing...

What can i do??
thanks,

(note the graphics card, aka not correct...)

I've tried about almost every "solution" I could find on the internet and it's just been one problem after another.

I've just recently received this laptop and I went and tried to play The Sims 3 on here, but when I tried and go play it an error popped up stating "Can't run The Sims 3 with the video card in this system" blah blah. So when I finally found the issue and went to try and update the graphic card, it would say the installation was successful and that I just needed to restart my computer. But I restart my laptop and it still shows up as "Standard VGA Graphics Adapter" under Device Manager. That happened when I went to install the "Intel(R) HD Graphics Family". I've tried every single method I could find to updating this stupid graphics driver, but I've just been running into one problem after another. I thought I finally found a solution when I went to go and try and install the beta version of "Intel(R) HD Graphics 4400", but at the end a window pops up talking about "The driver selected for this device does not support this version of Windows." Every single thing I've tried so far as resulted in nothing but failure. I don't know if it's my laptop that's the problem or what. All I know is I'm about ready to give up at this point.

Downgrade to WIndows 7 Home Premium. This is my advice. I know I am very late, but I have to so that somebody else with a similar problem can solve their problem. After a google search stumbled across some posts on Microsoft there are other users also having similar problems, and they all have been running Ultimate. I've been battling a very similar issue with my AMD Radeon 7670M card on a WIndows 7 Ultimate system. This card was working great when I was having Home Basic. It was very frustrating to reinstall Windows again and again to hope this solve it but it didn't. after seeing your issue and some others, I can surely tell you there is some compatibility issue between the OS and the hardware.

I'm on Windows 7 Professional 64 bits
My motherboard has an onboard graphics card that works just fine. I installed an old PCI graphics card in order to use more monitors (TNT2 Riva by NVidia). The card is so old that it doesn't have a driver for Windows 7 64bits (it seems that it works in 32 bits)
As a result Windows 7 uses a "Standard VGA Graphics Adapter" as the driver, the monitor and card works but it wont let me go above 1024x780, is there any way to force a higher resolution in this driver? Both my monitor and card can support it

Best,

Device manager tells me the graphics card is the standard vga 1..i have read up on this and have tried several things such as downloading new drivers from Gateway - they won't install saying they are not compatible with win 7 - tried that in compatibility mode to no avail.

Windows update wants to install the new drivers for the nivida graphics card but when it does it just messes wit the laptop and it won't start and i have to roll back time!

Ideas appreciated please

I was unable to play League of Legends when an error message showed up,
"An unknown DirectX error has occurred and League of Legends cannot start. Please make sure your video card is using the latest video drivers from the manufacturer."

I've tried downloading Microsoft DirectX? End-User Runtime, but that did not work either.

In an attempt to update my video drivers from amd, its auto detect method failed to recognize any of my (video) drivers.

I had considered installing a driver manually, however i am afraid that may risk my laptop to function properly.

Can anyone please find a compatible driver for me?

I left an attachment of the information from a run from dxdiag.

Hi there,
I have recently tried to update the generic "standard vga grpahics adapter". I tried to update it because my screen resolution had gone all small and weird after a factory reset but for some reason it has not worked. Before i had the generic display adapter I'm not sure what i had. But my laptop specs seems to tell me that it was AMD Raedon HD 6470M. I have also tried to install that but when i got to install it, it doesnt install the display driver only everything else in the package that was downloaded. Answer:Standard vga graphics adapter wont remove or update

Hi Everloned,

The Standard VGA graphics driver is just a basic windows driver that your system uses if it is unable to locate the correct driver for your graphics card. Usually one would simply install the manufacturer's drivers for your graphics card.

What version of Windows 7 are you running, 64bit or 84bit? If so, try downloading this: AMD Catalyst

I tracked down all the drivers and have installed them all in device manager. the only one thats not working was nvidia. i look under display adapters and it reads as standard vga graphics adapter. ive tryed updating the driver with the nividia 6600 driverbut it says the best one is all ready installed foryou. uninstall driver reboots your computer and when it starts back up it auto installs standard vga graphics adapter. since it doesnt read it anymore the games ive got wont run or go fast.on xp i had lots of games installed and it was working then. i cant try and reinstall it on xp as i need too get the raid drivers to install.

Hi guys,

I'm having a very strange issue on my fathers computer. He has a Packard Bell imediaS3810 with W7. It has no graphics card, just the standard VGA.

It has worked fine for the last three years. However, last week it kept getting a blue screen related to the graphics adapter and would take ages to start up (it would hang at Starting Windows). It would work fine in safe mode, but in normal operation I noticed that in Device Manager the Graphics part has a yellow exclamation mark, even though it had the latest drivers.

I did a fresh reinstall of W7, and on the defauly VGA drivers, the computer works fine on 2006 standard gfx driver, but the resolution is not correct, it's very zoomed in. Even when I list all modes the correct resolution is not available.

When I update the driver to the 2013 one via Device Manager and restart, the computer hangs at "Starting Windows" again, but would launch fine with Safe Mode. I then have to roll back the driver to 2006 and deal with the zoomed in screen!

Would really appreciate some help, as this is something my dad can't resolve himself.

Thanks!

I have been searching the internet for hours trying to find a solution to this problem to no avail .

Computer: Dell precision workstation t3500, Intel Xeon W3503 @ 2.4ghz, 6gb ram, GTX 560 ti (not working now, worked before restore)

I just restored my PC through Dell's backup and recovery manager. When finished, I tried to install drivers for my GTX 560 that I downloaded off of the Nvidia website. I receive the error: "The graphics driver could not find compatible graphics hardware."
I go to check the Device Manager and in the Display adapters I see "Standard VGA graphics adapter", not my Nvidia card. I'm assuming that is the reason my card does not appear and I can't install drivers?

These are the steps I have already taken:
First I tried uninstalling the Standard VGA graphics adapter but I found that it re-installs itself whenever I restart. Next, I tried to uninstall in safe mode but it STILL re-installs it self while in safe mode. I have tried Driver Sweeper to the same effect. After reading several threads online where users experience similar problems, I went to Dell to find the drivers they supplied for the computer I bought and Dell doesn't offer drivers for the card I have because I upgraded since buying the prebuilt from Dell. I found Dell drivers for a 560 ti however I still receive the same "The graphics driver could not find compatible graphics hardware" error.

These are the hardware id's for the Standard VGA graphics ad... Read more

Answer:Device manager showing Standard VGA graphics adapter after restore

Welcome to Windows Seven Forums.

I shouldn't worry too much about Windows installing drivers for the VGA adapter.

What you need to do is download NVIDIA's driver for your GTX 560 and save it to your hard drive.

Next, right-click the downloaded driver's .exe file and choose Run as Administrator.

You'll be offered a quick install and a custom install so choose the custom option.

The installer will uninstall the VGA adapter driver and clean install the GTX 560 driver.

When it's done reboot your computer and you should be good to go,

I just replaced my old on board standard VGA graphics adapter with a NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200 Video Card and upgraded to 2 GB of RAM in order to support Vista. I had no problems with the installation and the computer is much faster. However, we are a non profit and do a lot of Powerpoint (Microsoft Office 2007) presentations for fundraisers and I notice this morning that we've lost some functionality options within the software (fades, wipes, etc.) and the transitions are choppy and poor? I had this function before and the fades were much nicer?Should I disable the old standard VGA graphics adapter (there's an exclamation point next to it in Device Manager and Vista can't tell me what's wrong other than in can't load)?Any thoughts?Jeff

Answer:Standard VGA graphics adapter/NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200 VC conflict

Yes I would try to disable it. If that doesn't help try to remove any of the old video drivers. My computer wont show the onboard card with my Nvidia card plugged in. So I had to take out the new Nvidia card uninstall all video drivers, put the Nvidia card back in and reinstall the Nvidia drivers. May not be the cause but good place to start.

Hi,

I have lost my display on my laptop screen since I replaced the standard Microsoft display adapter driver with an AMD driver.

Is there an easy way to restore the standard graphics driver so that at least I can see Windows?

The windows still boots, however I cant see anything on the screen. I know this since it accepts my login and password and logs in. I have tried to "blind-foldedly" navigate to the Device Manager window, by switching on Narrator and random clicks. It hasnt helped much

My monitor screen is OK since the laptop boot-up screen works as normal.

The last thing I did wrong was to replace the graphics driver and now I am stuck with the above issue.

Can anyone please help?

Kind regards,

Answer:Lost display since I replaced standard graphics driver in Windows 10

Try booting from a Windows install disk, and via 'Repair your computer' start System Restore.

However, System Restore isn't so reliable and there have been certain problems.

If you followed the frequent strong recommendations here to use disk imaging, you could restore your system from a disk image.

Hello all,

I just upgraded my PC yesterday with some killer components. Everything turns on, works proper, etc.... except my Graphics Card (GTX 560ti 448 core edition) is showing as "Standard VGA Graphics Adapter"

New Parts;
- ASUS Sabertooth p67 Rev 3
- Intel i5 2500k
- 16 GB Corsair Vengeance DDR3-1600
- GTX 560ti 448 core edition

Thing's i have tried so far;
1 - Uninstalled old drivers (explained below)
2 - Downloaded drivers from Nvidia.com, attempted to install and received a message stating the program could not find a compatible card or something like that
3 - Checked BIOS to make sure my graphics setting was set to "PCIE/PCI"
4 - Checked Video Card seating and both 6 pin plugs

Now, just some other facts;
- The video card is apparently working as i am plugged into it directly via HDMI cable.
- The HDMI cable is the ONLY cable i am using for display atm
- I upgraded from;
- ASUS P5E3 Pro
- Intel Core 2 Duo E8500
- 8 GB's DDR3-1333
- GTX 275
- The hard drive was one of the part's i didn't change out. I did not do a clean install of Windows 7 due to the massive amount of installed software(and games) i'd have to reinstall if i did.

This is all i can think about at the moment, but will be watching this thread like a hawk for updates. I will answer any and all questions ASAP!

Any and all help is greatly appreciated!

Thanks for your time
Chris

After uninstalling the Standard VGA Adapter and manually erasing any remnants of old graphic drivers by using Driver Fusion, I attempted to reinstall the standard NVIDIA driver as recommended by DriverAgent. After downloading and attempting to install, I received a message from NVIDIA that my system was 32 not 64 bit (wrong), and installation was discontinued at that point. A VGA Driver was automatically re-installed at the next boot-up. Yet the Standard VGA driver (not the GeForce driver) still shows a configuration problem in "Manage" and I have been unsuccessful in reinstalling a new driver for it.

I otherwise have no visual problems with my monitors.
The Event Viewer does not seem to list any problems with a recent Chkdsk.
I have attached the logs which note the error.

Could it be something else or a hardware failure?

Answer:Standard VGA Graphics Adapter reports "tv_ConfigMgrErr14"

hi,

I really suggest you to uninstall DriverAgent. These software which search drivers for your system are really bad.
Remove any type of driver and manually download the Nvidia driver from Nvidia site. Also try different versions of drivers.
Run the driver setup program as administrator.

Since yesterday, my computer has stopped using my GeForce GTX 670 and is using the Standard VGA Graphics Adapter instead (according to DxDiag).

This happened when I was trying to install a new driver for my graphics card from its official website so that I could play a game called Battlefield 4. I am currently using a Republic of Gamer G75VW gaming laptop from Asus.

I have tried re-downloading the driver numerous times again but the installation just fails every time.
I have tried restoring my system to a date prior to this event but it just keeps failing.
Updating my nVidia Graphics Adapter through Windows Update just fails every time as well.

I have no more clue on what I should be doing as everything I do seems to do nothing, I would like to be able to play games and watch movies/videos without having to lag again and any help that I get will be much appreciated.

PS: I have included an attachment that shows my system specs

Answer:Computer uses "Standard VGA Graphics Adapter" instead of my GeForce

Hi, Welcome to Seven forums.

Download the required driver software that matches your hardware definition. Save a copy of the drivers in a safe place, in case you accidentally happen to delete them from your PC.

0. Disconnect from internet and Disable your anti-virus program and before going to step number 1 (Important)

1. Boot computer in SAFE mode (press F8 during restart)

2. Extract the Driver software .ZIP completely to extract all folders. Extract the .EXE also.

3. Go to Device Manager

4. Select Display adapter (in this case it reads 'Standard VGA Graphics Adapter' that need to change to 'Geforce')

5. Right click and select Properties, select update driver

6. In the update dialog select 'Browse my computer fro driver software'

7. In the Next dialog window, select 'Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer'.

8. In the Select driver dialog, pick on 'Have Disk'

9. Browse to the folder you extracted the ZIP file earlier (locate the '.inf' file) The .INF file would be located in the Packages>Drivers>Display>XXX_INF.

10. Run the installation, and you are done!!!

11. Restart the computer in normal mode.

12. Enable Anti-virus programs.

Keep us posted.

The reason you only have 16 colors is because the video driver is not install or it is corrupt.

Go to Compaq's website and download the latest driver for teh video card and you should get high colors and high resolutions

So, I've been really wanting to upgrade my laptop, and the problem is when I bought it, I was told I could not upgrade the graphics card on it, simply because there is not enough room next to the motherboard; too much room already taken up. Well now I have been wondering: couldn't I just purchase an external graphics card or the card itself and hook it up to the laptop I have (NVIDIA quality, preferably)? For those wondering, my laptop is a Lenovo IdeaPad U430; i5 Core Processor, with 8GB RAM, and holds a Intel 4500HD Graphics card. My two questions are these: 1. If I cannot upgrade the hardware with a graphics card, is it possible for this laptop model and type to use and hook up an external graphics card (NVIDIA quality cards)? and 2. If number one is possible, would I need a special cord to do so for my Lenovo, or can I just simply hook it up to my HDMI to VGA/DVI-D/DVI-A adapter?

Answer:Thinking about getting an External Graphics card and adapter for my laptop, but...

1) There are some special companies which provide you this functionality, so YES you can do this.

But SHOULD you do this? In my opinion NO, because the techniques are expensive and not that reliable.

2) Best option is to buy a new laptop with gaming graphics power.
From Lenovo, I can personally recommend the Y40/50, since they have good specs. I think they are worth the price if you can get one for under $1000.

Laptop graphics are NOT upgradeable. (Atleast not in most cases especially Lenovo unless you have an Ultrabay slot)

The screen is shot on this machine --I have a USB to VGA adapter, but can't get it to activate.  Because I have no screen I can't go through the typical Driver install .... is there a way to force the system to boot to the USB Display adaptor? thx in advance!

Answer:Booting/CMOS Setup using external USB Display Adapter

Hi there @DMillerassociat, Welcome back to the HP Support Forums! I understand that you are looking for a way to use a display connected using a USB display adapter as your boot display.  I am happy to give you a hand with this. I do not believe that this is currently possible, for several reasons. First the system BIOS would need the ability to recognize the USB port connection as a standard video connection. You would almost certainly need to either disable or disconnect your existing built in display, and you would also need the drivers that make a USB video adapter  work installed.  If the BIOS does not recognize the device as a valid video device  inherently you will never get a display, when you need to get into the BIOS setup. I hope this makes sense, and if it does answer your question, please mark this post as a solution. Kudos would also be appreciated.

I've got a hp pavilion 550-136na and have put in an msi nvidia GeForce GTX 660 graphics card. I got it second hand so it didn't come with the installation disk.Anyway, I've fitted it properly, all the fans are spinning as they should and I've even upgraded my psu to a corsair CM500x which should give me plenty of juice to run the card. When I go to look on device manager it shows up as Microsoft basic display adapter however when I go to update the driver it labels itself as my new card!To make matters worse when I plug my hdmi cable into the gpu I get no signal. My question is - how do I get my pc to recognise that there is a new card? I need to install the drivers but without it being detected the software keeps saying there's hardware available.

Answer:Graphics card appears as basic display adapter

Update :- at the end part I was meant to say ".... Being detected the software keeps saying there's no hardware available."

Ok I'm running an old windows ME system and this is the graphics card that came with it - Intel(r) 82810 Graphics Controller [display adapter]. Today I was looking at a game and found it required a 36 MB graphics card and I'm not sure if this card meets that requirment so does anyone know?

Answer:Intel(r) 82810 Graphics Controller [display adapter]

The integrated graphics core of the Intel i810/i815 chipsets (what you are using) will only use up to a maximum of 11 MB of graphics memory in a gaming situation, according to Intel's specifications.

Looks like you need an upgrade.

Hi there.Have an issue with my display adapter.Every time I boot my "Ideapad Z580" on, I cannot connect to any external displays without first having to update my display adapter in the device manager.  For some reason it seems to roll back to an earlier driver while either its shutting down or booting up.  I've deleted old driver files and it still has the same problem.  Whenever I try to connect to my tv, by either WIN+P combination or the Intel control panel, it cannot find my TV or any other Monitor I plug in.It's been like this for a year or so, never actually thought about writing on the forums about it.I use a larger TV for display output (bad eye sight) and it's just turned into more of a nuisance than anything.Any help would be great, if there's anyway I can provide more information just let me know!

Some games I download and play (adv/hobj) are very sluggish and the cursor also. So I have updated drivers and Directx, but am unable to update the Radeon IGP ATI 320m. Been at this for months and find everyone is in the same boat. Question is what can I do to fix this, is there a download or just stuck w/crappy video card? Here's some info.
I'm about to just break down and buy a new laptop suited for games since it is it'smain use for me. Can anyone help or give me some sound advice, I'm a computer idiot. Thanks so much.
