Touchpad not detected on Toshiba Satellite A60 (PSA60E)

Question: Touchpad not detected on Toshiba Satellite A60 (PSA60E)

working on a laptop that I removed a stack of viruses from. The laptop is running fine with a USB mouse but I would like to get the touchpad working as well. My problem is that the friend's son had the laptop: I know for sure that he filled it full of porn and viruses (which I removed) BUT he wont admit to having physically damaged the touchpad. I've googled all the forums, been on the Tosh site and reinstall driver about ten times, applied SP3, checked BIOS, toggled Fn-F9 ... but I still cant get the touchpad to

There's nothing in the BIOS and Toshiba diagnostics tests everything bar the touchpad. Does anybody have any suggestions as to something else that I could boot to that will tell me if there is a hardware fault?

Preferred Solution: Touchpad not detected on Toshiba Satellite A60 (PSA60E)

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have the above notebook. the performance of this notebook is terrible, when i start an application it takes up to 10 seconds before the app. windows open.
specs. bios version 1.90, win xp home, 192mb internal. it's a normal standard a60 with no special items.
Anyone have a hint to speed up performance.

Answer:Satellite A60 (PSA60E): slow performance

Like you know there are many reasons why the notebook runs slowly.
First of all if many processes are running in the background so the operating system runs slowly. You should check the background processes in the task manager and try to disable not important processes.
Secondly it?s possible that a virus decrease the performance of the notebook.
In this case you should update the antivirus application.
Also the antivirus application which runs on the notebook and monitors the processes in the background can be responsible for the slowly performance.

But the best way is to install the fresh OS. The notebook runs always faster with the clear installation. You can also upgrade the memory to increase the notebook performance.

Answer:Satellite A60 (PSA60E-09T060FR) - How can I reset the BIOS?

It seems that your BIOS was not flashed correctly?
But a BIOS reset can only be done from an ASP so you can?t do this by yourself.

I think you should contact the nearest ASP that you can find on the Toshiba website: => Support & Downloads => Find an authorized service provider

I?m sure that the technicians will help you as fast as possible. :)

I have a Toshiba Satellite L50T-A running Windows 8 64-bit. All of a sudden my touch pad has disappeared from settings. When I do a search for new hardware it is not detected either. Is it un plugged?

I would appreciate pictures with exactly what I must do.
Thank you in advance.

Answer:Satellite L50T-A - Touchpad not detected

If I understand you right touchpad is not detected and not listed in device manager, right?

Problem is that you cannot do much about that and ?force? touchpad to work.
What you can try is to test functionality with ?factory settings?. With other words, you can set BIOS to default settings and reinstall original recovery image. After doing this your notebook will have identical settings as on first day after first start.

If you do this and the result is the same it is possible that touchpad is defective or there is some problem with touchpad connection to the mainboard. This must be checked by Toshiba service.

Do you use external mouse at the moment?

Hello all,

I have a Toshiba Satellite L300-1AP that has problems in the touchpad area. I've replaced the touchpad itself and refreshed the drivers but the problem remains.

Sometimes there is no response at all, at other times it just moves the mouse pointer extremely slowly and erratically. When the first problem occurred I attached a USB mouse which worked fine. On subsequent attempts the mouse is not recognised at all, on any port. I've adjusted the sensitivity via control panel (Win7) but there is little difference in behaviour. I'm also aware of the Fn+F9 switch.

I suspect the thing is destined for scrap. Any suggestions as to how to rescue it would be gratefully received.

Thanks for your time,

Inherited a TOSHIBA SATELLITE laptop computer (2008 vintage) from my daughter. It had VISTA on it and an old version of IE. Would not update IE saying it was 'not computable with OS'. So I installed w-7 allowing the 'C' system partition to be overwritten; then installed SP-1 update. Works fine now, except I need to update the touchpad driver. Synaptics was original driver but was erased on the w-7 install. Tried to see if the available download for VISTA from Synaptics might work but it will not install.
The touchpad as it functions from the W-7/SP-1 is pretty sad in my way of thinking. Is there a program or driver I might install to improve it to something similar to as-it-was or maybe better?

The mouse, out of nowhere, starts to go to the right or to the left and there is nothing to do to remove it from the place. Sometimes it stops and others doesn't. This problem prevents us from working. It has nothing to do with the mouse (we tried several) or with docking station because it happens without the docking station.

I have a Toshiba Satellite L305d S394 that had the Vista virus on it when I purchased it one year ago. I scratched the original OS and installed W7 on it and found immediate relief. The only problem I am having is that the touchpad is way too touchy. I will be typing in one window and the cursor will jump, of its own volition, to another place in the document, to another window, or will bring up some menu option (like delete!!!!!)

I have read the Toshiba website, as well as a few other sites that I found googling but seem to get doublespeak about this problem.

Is there any way to find a file that is only a driver for the touchpad? I kept getting directed to a master "help you upgrade to 7" file, and I was afraid that if I used it I might take out all of my data files.

To start off, I seen another thread about the TouchPad not working but this is a slightly different situation.. First off, it's a really new computer and I'm dual booting windows 10 and linux. Anyways, the TouchPad only works in windows but it randomly stops working every once in a while and I have to go into the mouse settings and re-enable it but what I thought was really weird is that when I go to the efi firmware settings, it doesn't work either.. The mouse cursor is stuck on the left side of the screen and i have to use the keyboard to navigate, even a Bluetooth mouse won't work there.. That tells me that is not a windows issue but that also tells me that is not a hardware issue either because it works in windows when i enable it in the settings.. I also have to use the bluetooth mouse for linux as it doesn't work at all.. I'm not a noob by no means, i fix pc's for a living and i usually have some kind of idea on how to fix issues but this one, i have no idea.. Any help would be great! Thanks!

I have a Toshiba Satellite E205, Win 7. A small icon with a picture of the touchpad keeps appearing in the middle of my screen, quickly followed by a similar one, but with a red circle. The mouse or touchpad then freezes briefly. By looking in Task Manager, Processes, I see that this is accompanied by the appearance of touchpadED.exe, which then disappears from processes. I think it started when I unplugged a USB hub with mouse and keyboard from my computer while it was still on. I removed and reinstalled the Synaptics Touchpad driver from Toshiba, ran virus scan and malware software, and cannot stop the process in Task Manager. How can I get rid of this problem??

Hey all!

I upgraded my laptop with Vista to Windows 7 Professional and ever since then I cannot get access to the touchpad settings at all. I want to turn off the tapping and turn on the scrolling. I have tried installing and uninstalling the device as well as the new the new driver for my symantics touchpad from the symantics website and the recommended driver from the toshiba site but neither has worked.

When I go into device properties and go to change settings the only options I have are to specify the actions the two buttons have.

Totally absolutely should have been an easy fix.

Any suggestions?

Hi there,

Im having problems with my Toshiba Satellite Pro A200 Touchpad. It was fine until when i was walking down the stairs and accidently dropped it. The hard drive had to be replaced and the touchpad wansn't working. I've tried to diagnose the problem by checking device manager updating driver's etc. And ive narrowed it down to 2 causes: Damaged motherboard OR the touchpad wire has come loose/off. So as im really good with computers and very good with laptop's i need to disassemble my Laptop to get to the touchpad wire and check it out first. And then i will know if it is the touchpad or the motherboard. And now I have never disassembled a laptop before i have no idea what the process is especially for my medel which i cannot find guides for as it is not a very recent one. Could someone please give instructions on how to disassemble it? I will leave model and other info. about it at the end of this post. I would appreciate links to a guide etc or just simple easy instruction and pictures would be helpful.

I am disappointed with the ALPS touchpad driver which Tosihba provides for my laptop and have tried Synaptics' drivers but they do not seem to be compatible (Scrolling does not work).

The issue with the ALPS touchpad driver is that it does not support continuous scrolling, which is a must-have in my opinion.

Are there by any chance any alternative drivers which at least support continuous scrolling and are compatible with my laptop?

I've googled alot, but to no avail...

I went to use my laptop today, and I discovered that the touchpad has stopped working. In fact, I was unable to even get past the sign-on screen, and if it weren't for the fact that I got a mouse arrow with a plug-in USB mouse, the laptop would be completely dead to me.

My son uses the laptop for Minecraft gaming, but I don't think that has anything to do with this. Even a reboot didn't change anything. I wonder if a Windows update screwed something up (again)? I'm at a loss. I'm not always where I can set up a physical mouse to use - and frankly I don't want to have to.

Any suggestions?

Answer:My Toshiba Satellite touchpad suddenly stopped working

Found the solution. When I pressed the F5 button (not Fn + F5), I got a popup that said "touchpad disabled." When I pressed it again, it said "touchpad enabled." I unplugged my USB mouse and tried again, and it's now working. What a screwed up design that allows a user to accidentally disable one's touchpad with an accidental press of the F5 key. Then you have to research the problem before figuring out the problem. Someone in the Toshiba laptop design department should be fired.

Hello all,

I own a Toshiba P30-135.

I experience TOUCHPAD temporary freezes from time to time.

During freeze the mouse cursor cannot be moved for 30 seconds to a couple of minutes.

Freeze occurs randomly, at least once a week, often once every day.

The last available driver on the Toshiba site is installed.

The software installation is clean without suspect software, spyware and viruses (I'm a specialist of IT security)

I read on the web two different stories :

1. it is due to an electrostatic problem, and it is required to change the top cover on some models. However on mine the display had to be changed recently by Toshiba maintenance and they changed the top cover, too, (which was corroded by sweat). The problem occured before mantenance and still after maintenance.

2. It is a "normal" process whereby the software readjusts mouse settings. I never found anything from Toshiba about this. However I never saw any PC from any brand freeze for minutes before, and I do not find this normal as it can freeze during critical phases.

Does anyone have information about this issue ? and / or any information on how to disable the "auto-adjust" feature if it is true and consequences ? Any standard driver able to replace without the feature ?

Many thanks !

Answer:Ramdom freeze of Toshiba ALPS touchpad on Satellite P30-135

I?ve got the same problem like you sometimes on my machine (Tecra S5). Since I am using often the touchpad it occurs during work and it?s very annoying.

What I?ve found out was that since my hands are sweating when I am typing some longer docs, the sweat adheres on the surface of the pad and generates some kind of layer which prevents the pad to get the "touch" from my fingers.
After cleaning the touchpad gently with some non-aggressiv kitchen cleaner, it works like a charm and stops blocking for some weeks till it?s starts over again. I think humans cannot disable sweating like a background process under windows. Would be interesting if you could check this, clean your pad and report if the pad works after cleaning it.
Thats also sometimes a good reason to clean the whole machine periodically from sweat, debris and dust. (Don?t forget the ventilation holes from the cooling system ;) )
It?s like cleaning your apartment, just keeping it clean and preventing some bigger SH**. :)

When I have the touchpad enabled the cursor jumps around the screen when I'm typing somthing causing me grief. It also has minimized the current browser I'm in, not always but has happened.

When I disable it and connect my Logitech wheel mouse (which I'v used for 2+ years) the problem disappears but I can't highlight/select things properly. For example, normally when I double click on a word it highlights but it doesn't do that anymore. Or when I try to select a a few words it selects the entire sentence or parts of it. I have to use the shift and arrow key. Also using the vertical scroll gives me a problem as well.

I downloaded and installed the current mouse drivers, changed the USB the mouse connects to...nothing. I'm using XP Home version (i've only used the pro version before).

Any ideas? Thanks in advance

Hi guys,

please do me a favour. i am in Dubai, i bought my Toshiba laptop in Dubai. That is Satellite A300-1G5, Sr.No. 98487056Q.
The problem is: whenever i try to find my laptop in Toshiba help and support web site, it is not detecting my machine.

I have tried Auto detect, putting serial no in the box, both option, but all returns with the same result---- not available in region.

Until I detect my machine I am unable to identify the exact driver and so cannot check for updates.
It is strange that Toshiba laptop is not getting found by Toshiba website.

Can anybody help me?

Answer:Satellite A300-1G5 is not detected on Toshiba support page

It can happen that system somehow cannot identify notebook model but for drivers download it is just important to know first part of the part number.
So your notebook belongs to PSAG4E series and on Toshiba download page you can define exact notebook model and see which drivers are available.

Have you tried to choose your product manually?

I have had my Toshiba Satellite Pro P200D-10P for 3 years now and have had a recurring problem. If I shut it down for any reason I then cannot reboot it thereafter, sometimes for several hours and at worst for several days. In BIOS, under 'Main' it has 'None' under the 'Hard Disk' title. If I try and boot it up I get the error; 'For Realtek RTL8100E/8101E Fast Ethernet Network Adapter v1.02 (060529). PXE-E61: 'Media test failure, check cable. PXE-M0F: Exiting PXE ROM.' I assume this is due to no hard drive being found in the boot sequence and LAN being used.

I have updated the version of BIOS to v1.07 and have tried removing each of the 1GB RAM to check if its due to bad RAM but that has not helped the issue.

I have removed and replaced the hard drive to ensure it is seated properly but that has not improved the problem.

I would greatly appreciate any help anyone can give.

Thank you.

Hi Guys n Gals.

Any input on this would be great.
Its a Toshiba C650 PSC08E

I recently Restored my System to factory settings using the Toshiba recovery partition. Every thing was going fine i had installed Windows.

Was back to the desktop, it started to instal all of the Tosiba drives and programmes when it started to install Face Recognition. It froze for 5-10 minutes and shut itself down.

<The more relevent info>
I restarted my computer to a message telling me No bootable device. Restarted and went into Bios.
No HDD being detected.
It seems if i Enter Bios then Save and exit. (Which makes the comp restart)Bios detectes it fine.

I First thought it was a bad install and a format would work. So i did.
This time with win7 install disk. Same thing got to the desktop ,except the toshiba drivers didnt install themselves. I went to the toshiba website and installed the relevent drivers Currently working fine I am using it to type this post now.

Just every time i power on from a Shutdown I have to enter then exit Bios.
I have upated Bios, I Dont posses a Recovery CD. ( Is this any different to downloading drivers after a fresh install?)
I Would buy one but they quite expensive, The one i need is ?30.

Not quite sure how this forum operates, if there is a reward system i will be sure to stick to it,
Desperatly need some help here. This is driving me insane

Answer:Satellite C650: HDD not detected after Toshiba factory reset

OK. The first thing you should do is to enter BIOS, set it to default settings and check how it works. I think HDD should be recognized properly and you should be able to start notebook without entering BIOS.

Now after clean OS installation you cannot install recovery image from HDD. What you need now is original recovery disc. I don?t understand why you didn?t create it when everything was OK.
Anyway, new recovery disc can be ordered on

If you want to keep your OS version install all missing drivers, tools and utilities additionally. You can download them from Toshiba download page -

If you need more assistance you are welcome.

Answer:Toshiba Satellite A200 Notebook - Synaptics Touchpad Not Scrolling?

It could be a hardware issue.

I had similar problems w/ notebook - mousepad had to be replaced.

You could try to un-install all drivers in Device Manager then re-boot. Vista will re-install. Also make sure to go to OEM site and get updated driver - if available.

Note that you will lose mouse function completely after un-install. Have USB mouse or b/c familar with CTRL-ALT-DEL that will get you to screen so you can use arrow keys to restart system

I hope someone can help me with this weird problem
My laptop is Satellite U405-S2833 with 1.2 GB Core 2 duo.

It came with a Vista home premium operating system, but I later added XP professional to it (Dual booting)
About 10 months ago, the touchpad as well as the 3 USB ports stopped functioning. Two of the ports will not recognize peripherals, but could power the items, while the third was totally redundant. Since then, I have been using an express card USB adapter for attaching an external mouse and other peripherals. The problems were occurring in both operating systems.
Laptop technicians have had a look at it to no avail.

Here comes the weird part: On occasions when I had to repair or install windows, the pad works perfectly, only to stop working after windows has fully installed.

NB: I have updated the BIOS to the latest version (4.0). Windows 7 RC also exhibited the same problem

When try to get notebook detected manually on the website, I fingd that the model (Satellite U500- 1DR) is listed neither in the list of available models nor in that of discontinued models. I am unable to download appropriate softwares/updates from the website.

Answer:Satellite U500-1DR series Notebook is not detected by the TOSHIBA Website

If autoetection doesn?t work you can find it manually but not using model name but model part number. Your U500-1DR has part number PSU9ME-xxxxx so please check Toshiba download page under and check for Satellite U500 with part number or short model number PSU9ME.

Can you find it?

Have recently downloaded Opera browser & find the Synaptics scroll function no longer works !
All other funtions seem OK & scrolling is still fine with MS Explorer
Can anyone tell me if this can be fixed ?
[Using a Satellite 5200-902]

Also Touchpad light goes out after 5 seconds.[This is normal]
Does anyone know if it is possible to find the code & change this to say 60 seconds ?

Any help with the above would be appreciated

Answer:Satellite 5200 - Touchpad scrolling in Opera / Touchpad backlight

I?m not sure but I think the Opera explorer doesn?t support this option.

But if the Opera supports this option so maybe you have to enable it only in the Opera settings?
But sorry I don?t use the explorer and therefore I can?t give you a exactly instruction hoe to do it.

But play around with the settings or visit some Opera support sites

Hello Everyone,

My problem started after updating windows 8.1 to windows 10, of course!
First the touchpad just stopped working, for no reason.

My solution was to uninstall the drive and restart the laptop. And from time to time I had to do this proceed. Two weeks ago windows updated, and the touchpad issue's gone. . Unfortunately, another one appeared.

The feature "mousekey", which is turn it on at ease access to use the numeric keys to use them as a mouse, It's turning itself on. And doesn't matter how many times I turn it off, few seconds and it's on again.

I've tried uninstalling the drive, which after windows the last updating was "ELAN".

Then I replaced by the Toshiba drivers, which is "Synaptic", and uninstalled the drives ,the problem is the same. Because of that, I can't use my numeric key, which is annoying!! If anyone can come up with something I will be grateful.

Answer:Toshiba satellite P300 (-1CD) won't boot past toshiba splash screen.

Perform the following steps:
-Remove the battery and Power adapter
-Press and hold the power button for 30-45 seconds (with battery and power still removed)
-Insert just the battery and attempt to boot the laptop.
-Insert just the power adapter and attempt to boot the laptop.

If still unsuccessful: Remember to remove battery and power before removing/installing components

-Remove the power and battery
-Remove the hard drive from the laptop and attempt to boot with the battery installed. Do you receive any error message?
-Remove the memory modules from the laptop
-Insert just the battery and attempt to start the laptop (you should receive beep error)
-Try inserting just one module of memory and test (swapping modules after each attempt)
-Remove the optical drive and test.
-Try disconnecting the CMOS battery for a few minutes then re-connect and try.

My laptop cannot tell me any post after the Toshiba logo just black screen. Cannot get into the bios or anything... These are the things I have tried:
Taken hard drive out,
Taken ram out and only tried one..
Taken Battery Cmos battery out for a few minutes..
Had a look at the motherboard and fan is not even working when I turn it on..
I have taken the cpu and put it back in..
Defiantly Sounds like the motherboard problem but want to know if its just a chip that needs to be replaced and soldered.. If anyone has any ideas that will be awesome.

It always connect and disconnect me.

I use this machine and card all over the world: airports, hotels, offices and it works great.

I asked the dealer to replace the 311. Same problem.

However, if I stick TRENDnet PCMCIA card and disable the Toshiba Wireless LAN Mini PCI Card, I connect w/o disconnections.

Answer:Satellite A30 – Should I contact Toshiba Europe or Toshiba Worldwide?

What a strange question?.
If you have some problems with you notebook you have to contact the authorized service provider in your country.
The technicians should help you.
But listen; if your notebook is out of warranty (and I think it is) you will have to pay for the reparation!!

But what?s a problem with you unit???

Greetings, I am trying to update my Toshiba Satellite P50-C-11M through the Service Station, however an error occurs. Please note the laptop is roughly a week old only.

As I press install on the updates I get the following message: "The software update download operation failed. Reason: Retrieving the COM class factory for component with CLSID {4991D34B-80A1-4291-83B6-3328366B9097}.

I tried the following solutions and nothing worked:
1. Updated the BIOS Independently from the Toshiba Europe Website.
2. Uninstalled the Service Station and reinstalled it again.

Thank you, and I hope this helps others too.

I recently found an old HP ze2308wm laptop that had broken a few months ago, and I decided to take it apart and fix the power jack, and after that it worked fine. I then reinstalled Windows XP, and the mouse was very sensitive and would hop around a lot, so I went to the synaptics settings and lowered the sensitivity, and it worked fine.

The next day, I was testing the pressure graph and pressed somewhat hard on it (it wasn't very hard, I'd pressed that hard plenty of other times), and it stopped responding. If I pressed really hard, it would move a little bit, but otherwise it would not respond at all. The right and left mouse buttons still worked.

I opened the settings again and tried raising the sensitivity, but that didn't do anything. I tried reinstalling the driver, and that didn't help, and after I restarted the computer, it wouldn't move or click. After a couple more restarts it wouldn't detect the mouse at all. I took it apart and everything was still connected right.

I ended up reinstalling windows, and that didn't help, and now every once in a while windows will detect it as a PS/2 mouse (like it should), but the synaptics programs won't detect any mouse at all. Most times it doesn't detect any mouse at all.

Any ideas?

Answer:Touchpad not detected

I took it apart again, I used a multimeter and checked the cable, all the pins were connecting. Windows won't detect a mouse at all anymore. There's nothing in the BIOS for input devices, and I tried every fn+F key combination to see if there was one to enable/disable the touchpad. I tried BartPE and UBCD, neither of them detect a mouse either, so it looks like it must be a hardware problem. What else can I test?

Hi gata, welcome to TSF.

You could just have disabled it. Have a look at the 'F' keys (top of the keyboard, ranging from F1 - F12). One of those will have an icon for your touchpad. Press the Fn key and the F key with the icon. Should sort it out.

I've got a Toshiba a205-s4607 running on XP. The power chord stopped working a few days ago and I just got a new one online. Everything seemed fine, but after a few minutes of use, the mouse (a touch pad) either spazzes even from a light touch, doesn't move at all, jumps across the screen, etc. When I unplug the new cord from the comp, it goes back to normal. When I plug it in again, it's fine for about a half minute before it goes crazy. I have no idea what would connect the two. It's really weird. Any help?

Have a Toshiba laptop A665-S6095. It has a backlit keyboard; i.e., when turned on, hitting any key causes all the keys to be backlit. However, the backlighting used to also light a bar at the top of the touchpad and the "Satellite" label in the lower left corner. I just noticed today that those two items are no longer lighting, and can find nothing in the manual that deals with the backlit keyboard.

If anyone here has a Toshiba with a backlit keyboard, do you know if there's some key combination or software setting with controls the light bar on the touchpad?

Just got a brand new Acer Swift 3 SF314-51-52W2 with Windows 10 - everything works great except for the touchpad.  When I first got it the touchpad did not work at all, it would work for like 3 seconds at a time before freezing.  This issue was resolved by changing my BIOS touchpad settings from Advanced to Basic.  Now the touchpad works, but it is jumpy, and sometimes does not click.  The touchpad itself does not show up under devices, instead it shows up as a PS/2 Mouse.  I tried reinstalling the drivers, both for ELAN and Synaptic becasue I don't know what touchpad I have, but the touchpad is still recognized as a PS/2 Mouse.  My BIOS version is 1.07, which I think is the latest version.  Has anyone else encountered this problem?  I have seen other threads recommending rolling back drivers, but I'm not sure how to do that using the Acer website since all that's available is Windows 10 drivers.  I'm just hoping I don't need to ship it back to Acer.

Answer:Acer Swift 3 Touchpad not Detected

The touchpad showing up in Device Manager as a PS2 device is normal. Sometimes it will show up as an Elan or Synaptic if it is using that particular driver but Microsoft uses its own native touchpad driver so there should not be a problem for it to show up as such in Device Manager. If it is jumpy and laggy there may be a hardware problem with the touchpad itself. For assistance with this though please contact Acer support from the contact info posted here:

Hi there,I seem to be having a problem with the touchpad on my Lenovo G510. I noticed yesterday that my touchpag settings were for some reason reset to default (sensitivity + no scrolling) so I went to the control panel to change them back. However, I can't find any touchpad options in the mouse section. I know there should be a tab called 'device settings' there, but it's simply missing. Device manager also only detects my USB mouse under mouse and other pointing devices. I tried restarting my computer, downloading the latest driver form Synaptics (didn't work, got an error message saying Synaptics device not found), etc.I'm running a 64 bit Windows 7.Any suggestions?

I have a Lenovo X1 Yoga Thinkpad (manuf April 2017). After removing Windows 10, I installed Ubuntu and found that the built-in touchpad is not detected. Touchscreen works great. I can even connect an external mouse and it works fine. But nothing from the built-in touchpad. I filed a bug with the linux kernel here since it is probably a missing driver in the kernel. BUT, I've read in the internets that other people have been able to get ubuntu installed on X1 Yoga's so I think there must be some workaround that I'm not aware of. Any ideas?

Answer:X1 Yoga Touchpad Not Detected in Ubuntu 14, 16, and 17

There seems to be a similar issue for the yoga 720 15 version with the touchpad not being detected in any of ubuntu versions. I am not familiar with the third part of the bug description but it seems to list the product version and name as the yoga 720 15 inch and not x1 yoga. Maybe that has something to do with the touchpad not being detected.

About 2 months ago I bought this super gaming laptop by Toshiba(on sale 1 yr old and guarantee expired)(Store didn't tell me that part)and of course, I use it for gaming.
Last month I was into FPS and the touchpad kept getting in my way since the palm of my left hand kept swiping over it and I got killed easily.
therefore, to get rid of the problem, I disabled it from BIOS ( the updated 2.10 BIOS version ) and when I got out of the FPS spirit, I wanted to re-enable it again. but for my surprise it wasn't working!
I tried EVERYTHING I could think of.
-returning bios to original settings
-recovering my laptop to out-of-box state
but nothing.

does anyone here have ANY idea of how I can re-enable it again?

PS: Talked with a Toshiba representative and he didn't help me at all!

Answer:Toshiba laptop touchpad driver

Hi GKahn

Try looking in control panel for mouse , see if it can be enabled from there.

You can also try hitting the fn key and f9 at the same time. On Toshiba that should lock and unlock the touchpad.

I have a Dell lap top, I am going by memory from what I have read in this Forum.

Howdy guys!

I'm kind of stuck and have no idea how to fix this.

The other day I was using my laptop just fine. I turned it off for the night and came back to it the next day to start using it again. When I turned it on, the touchpad doesn't work. I restarted the computer and it still wont work.

I plugged in a USB mouse and updated the drivers. Uninstalled the drivers and reinstalled and its still not working.

When I went into the Mouse control panel in the hardware tab, Windows isn't picking up my touchpad at all. It finds only the USB mouse, but no trace for my touchpad even in the device manager.

I'm running a Toshiba satellite A305D-S6848 laptop with Windows 7 Pro 32bit with the SP1 Beta (was working fine with the beta till just the other day and have been running the beta sicne it came out), have a Synaptics Touchpad (or however you spell it).

I ran several virus scans and AVG/Avast/Kaspersky couldn't find anything JUST to be safe that it wasn't something like that.

Anyways thanks guys and hope to have some smart people figure it out

I bought a Toshiba NB200-10Z this week and I'm pleased with my purchase, very stylish. The only thing is if my fingers are dry the touchpad feels a bit rough in smoothness when gliding your finger across it. But if my fingers have a bit of moisture on its fine and smooth to use. Does anyone else experience this problem? I don't think this is a problem with mine individually I think its the texture of the touchpad.

I never noticed such issue with any touchpad surfaces.
If you are talking about the touchpad functionality then I would recommend checking the touchpad settings in control panel -> mouse
There you can change and assign some different options which could help you make the touchpad more sensitive?

I purchased a Toshiba Satellite Pro A60 about a year ago. Over the last few months it seems my Touch & Launch pad is becoming increasingly sensitive! My wife also has a Toshiba and she has been having the exact same problem. While working in a document or (especially) when scrolling down a page, all of a sudden my working document freezes while the touchpad launches itself into life, brings up a load of shortcuts which I can't get rid off until I open one (and then have to close)- before I can resume working again. Recently I've also noticed it no longer waits for me to select a program to open - it just suddenly launches a program while I'm working at something else. I've been working around the problem for ages but its just becoming a real pain. Anyone else had this sort of problem? Better still, anyone got a solution?Cheers, Mart

I have a Toshiba Satellite 1135-S1552 laptop. Operating system is XP.

Recently it's been acting up- the laptop is now 6 years old.

The LCD has a transparent light blue strip -about an inch and a half thick- vertically onscreen. When I press the frame of the screen below the stripe- it disappears for a split second.

Also, the touchpad has been stalling. It alternates between fine and responsive to a lag or disconnect between the cursor movement and motion I use on touchpad.

Do you think these things are related?

I'd bet on a hardware issue.  If it's a new machine, try using the one key rescue to recover to a factory default install.  Or run a live CD like ubuntu or something on it, which should be able to see the thinkpointer / thinkpad.

If it actually works on the battery, then you battery is probably fine, BUT you need to update your drivers, especially if you upgraded to Windows 7 from another operating system (old drivers do not always work correctly from Vista and almost never work from XP on Windows 7)You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.

Nothing at the toshiba site, the 2000 drivers wont work.
the recovery/utilities discs only contain ME drivers.
Nothing at Alps that I could find.
Problem is that when typing (in word for example)the cursor jumps erratically, there was a setting in the old alps touchpad utility which ran on millenium that stopped this happening.
Since reformatting and installing XP-pro the problem has re-occurred.

but some adverse affects occurred, the touch pad's touch and launch feature (hold down a corner of the touch pad and you get shortcuts to stuff) doesn't work on it, and I can no longer scroll with the side and bottom of my touch pad and being stupid, i didn't backup the keys I deleted.. so I don't know what I need to restore.. I tried re-enabling everything in msconfig, using system restore, and using "last known good configuration" at windows startup.. i called Toshiba tech support and they told me to use system restore.. I also tried reinstalling a bunch of mouse related drivers, but to no avail.. according to the touch and launch program, touch and launch is enabled, and I can't find the settings for scrolling with the touch pad..

the touch pad does work..

someone please help me! this is getting quite annoying..

Can anyone help? I just brought a new Toshiba Satellite A665 (Toshiba - Satellite Laptop / Intel® Core? i5 Processor / 15.6" Display / 4GB Memory / 640GB Hard Drive ? Slate - Model: A665-3DV6) with windows 7. I use ArchiCAD 14 but do not use a mouse - I prefer to use the touchpad. On my previous computer (opertaing on windows XP) I used the side scroll feature of the touchpad as a Zoom in ArchiCAD but I cant seem to enable this feature on the Satellite operating Windows 7! Does anyone know how to solve this problem?

Answer:toshiba laptop archicad 14 zoom touchpad

This I do not know, BUT I can suggest using Control + and Control - for access to zoom feature (works in browsers nicely), at least until you find another answer. You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane. This site is about helping people, lets keep it that way.

On my Toshiba Satellite L635 laptop, the touchpad is not working anymore.
The usual function key (Fn+F9) to activate/deactivate the touchpad doesn't change anything as well as the small button in front of the touchpad.
I checked the driver in the device manager and the touchpad driver in located in the hidden devices with the following error:

"This device is not present, is not working properly, or does not have all its drivers installed. (Code 24)."

I checked in the BIOS and the touchpad is activated
I tried to deinstall the driver and reinstall it from toshiba website with no sucess
Thanks in advance for any help

My friend's Toshiba laptop's keyboard and touchpad completely froze recently. Function keys seem to be the only thing working and the touchpad IS enabled. Hard shut down and restart did nothing. So I was able to it home and hook in an external mouse which worked. Navigating with the on-screen keyboard and external mouse, I tried to reinstall touchpad and keyboard drivers but have had problems. So again, the function keys work on the keyboard but nothing else. One other thing I found not working is the computer restart. Computer will shut down and boot up alright. If restarted it shuts down to a black screen, sounds like the fan is still running, and never boots back up. Then I need to hard shut down and restart. The laptop is a Toshiba Satellite L505D-GS6000 (apparently already reconditioned) running Windows 7 64-bitTouchpad and Keyboard drivers installed are:HID Keyboard device (ver. 6.1) - working properlyStandard PS/2 keyboard - says device working properly (but has disappeared from device list on occassion)HID-complaint Mouse - says device working properlySynaptics PS/2 Port Touchpad (driver ver. 11.____) - states "This device cannot start (code 10)."Tried updating/reinstalling drivers. Toshiba website has updated drivers for the touchpad (ver 13) but no keyboard drivers. I haven't been able to locate basic keyboard drivers. Not sure what else to do.Any advice would help. Thanks!

Answer:Toshiba laptop keyboard & touchpad frozen

reconditioned...personally i would stop messing around and do a factory restore, after saving all the files, factory restore will delete the C; drive and reinstall the OS from the hidden partition, effectively taking the machine back to the day it was bought. then replace all your files and folders.if its still under warranty take it back.i hate computers!but cant help myself....

Hello Toshiba users

I bought a new Toshiba Z30 in May 2015 from an online vendor on ebay in Australia. Great laptop.

About 6 months ago, the accupoint started moving on its own, so I disabled it in the mouse settings and used only the trackpad.

Now the trackpad no longer works properly. The laptop will recognise and respond to button clicks. However (intermittently and frequently) the cursor no longer responds to input from the trackpad itself.

I have tried uninstalling existing drivers and allowing windows to install its own, but this didn't work.

Because it is intermittent, I wonder whether this is a hardware issue?

Any advice on how I could repair this?

Hi there,

I reinstalled Windows 7 (from a Windows 7 disk not the Toshiba recovery files).
And everything was working fine, but after restarting once after some updates the mouse and keyboard stopped working!
I found I could get the keyboard to work by pushing the power button to send it to sleep then waking it up, but then the mouse still didn't work.
I can push F2 on the keyboard to get into the BIOS, but can't navigate in it (but can with a USB keyboard.)
Mouse and keyboard don't work in safe mode even.
USB keyboards and mice work fine all the time.

The laptop is a
Satellite L500D PSLT0C-00F002

I really don't understand would could cause this all of a sudden!
