I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

My SSD died, bought a new one and put it in. Now I am getting BSOD's, randomly while gaming. Some times after 1 min, some times several hours. I have no idea what is causing this. I have gotten one or two BSOD's in the past 3 and a half year with this rig, but not 3 in the course of 1 and a half day.

I have attached 3 minidumps. I have no idea what to do with these files. I am also unable to to even write down the error message on the BSOD itself, as it's only really up for 2 seconds max, and I am unable to reproduce the error at will.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

hi as per title , i really enjoy playing dayz and arma , but i have to have everything set onto low and very low in the graphics settings, i am not expert but i asume my laptop has more than the required spec to aleast run these games in medium. specs are as follows
hp envy i7 4700mq 2.40 ghz
12 gb dual-channel DDR3 798 mhz
2047mb nvidia geforce gt 740m
is there any way i can do or change anything to make these games run smoother with better graphics , i also run avg in turbo mode at the same time , any help would be greatly appreciated

Answer:dayz hp envy gaming problems

Your video card is probably what's slowing you down, it will struggle to run those games on any higher setting than you are currently running. I doubt there is much you can do to speed things up to be honest, but try making sure you don't have any other non-essential processes running while you're playing.

Dayz mod worked until i installed Dayz launcher. i had a problem playing the mods, so i copied the addons file from arma 2 to arma 2 operation arrowhead file. the mods then worked. after that, i tried playing dayz without mods and it either said "you have been kicked from game" or would freeze at the screen "spawning items..." or "setup complete please wait". i have tried verifying files, deleting the mods, uninstaling dayz launcher. nothing works. i use steam. also on the side if u could fix the error message "low fps please change graphics settings".

I'd want the graphics to be medium - high settings, basically, and for the computer itself to be reasonably priced (£400 - £600). Although it may disappoint certain people, I do not have the time or interest (sorry to disappoint, it's just not my thing) to build a computer myself, so I'd appreciate advice from people who have the passion and knowledge.
The mentioned game, a military simulator, is the one I'll likely play most extensively and I shouldn't need to over-complicate my purchase. Any advice, please? If you're to recommend a certain site, I'd be thankful if it wasn't relatively unknown and/or lacking any substantial coverage in media.
Thanks a lot!

Hey guys, so I have been working on my gaming rig for a couple of years now. It originally started out as an alienware x51 slim tower PC with
CPU: Intel I5 2320 3.0GHZ
Ram: 8GB

I have since upgraded the Graphics card to a GTX 660TI, not only do I play games but I record for my YT channel while playing them, in recent games I have had problems in dipping down to 30FPS while recording.

So to get down to it I was wondering what the cheapest way to improve FPS would be, I thought of more RAM but sadly the MOBO that came on this computer only has 2 ram slots which really sucks. A friend of mine suggested I buy a SSD, but I think this would only help with booting and loading times and not actual FPS. I am thinking about buying a new CPU but the problem is I only have about $250 to spare, I have an old MOBO which has a LGA 1155 slot so it cant find the newer CPU's into it, I could also but an older CPU but I dont know how much it would actually improve things.

Should I just save up more money? Is my MOBO the biggest limiting factor in my rig? I dont really know much about PC part's beside putting them together and troubleshooting.

Sorry for the wall of text! I really appreciate any suggestions you can give me. Thanks!

PS: If you need more info let me know, I couldnt think of anything else you would need.

Answer:Best/Cheapest way's to improve my gaming rig?

Are you sure it fit's my mobo? In the video about these new 4thgen cpu's they say it wont fit a 1155 mobo.

Question: Cheapest Laptop

Any suggestions where I can purchase a cheap laptop? All I want it for is to browse the Internet and access various forums. As I?m on a tight budget, I don?t want to spend too much money. Thanks in advance.

Answer:Cheapest Laptop

If you are careful, there are often laptops sold on Ebay that would do what you want. For Internet access you can get away with a very basic spec such as click here.If you don't want to take the risk, then the cheapest I've seen for a new laptop is about £300, such as click here. If you do buy second hand, it's quite likely that the battery will be quite tired so you will probably have to have it plugged into the mains most of the time you use it.

I found a year old thinkpad with 8 GB RAM and other nice specs for $320 and in perfect condition allegedly, but someone else snagged it before I could.

I know alienwares are good.. I found a m14x for $700. Is that good?

But looking at something and cheaper, maybe $500? (used or new) what would be good? Looking for lots of RAM and good processor/ video card. Something I could game on. Also something with a webcam and not design-flawed. (i.e, the fan built near the bottom so it over-heats unless it's raised up) Also something with long battery life would be ideal.

Thanks you for your advice.

Good video will cost more than $500. All laptops come with webcams. Almost all have fans on the bottom. Where else would they put them? Some higher priced more portable laptops have side vents because they're thinner.

Is $139 the cheapest way I can put Windows 8 on my new laptop since Microsoft no longer is doing the update? I mistakenly ordered my Alienware m14x with Windows 7 instead of 8!
It should arrive in a day or 2 now. If the laptop is good, I don't want to send it back and wait another 3 weeks or a month for a computer.

Answer:New Laptop Win 7 - Cheapest way to get Win 8 on it?

I think the cheapest way would be to tell alienware to send you a new key because if they don't you are going to return it since you do have a 30 day return.

My laptop has two regular harddrives, one of which I rarely use. So I am thinking to transfer the files and documents that I don't regularly access to the unused harddrive and transfer the OS and programs to a 250 gb SSD that can be installed internally.

I have been looking online, but it seems that the cost of a 250gb ssd may not be low enough for my tastes. I am wondering if anyone knows what brands or models I should be focusing on and whether anyone is aware of very good deals.

Whats the best laptop for gaming for 500 bucks? I'm replacing a laptop ( Gateway 7525 ) which I paid like $1,400 at the time, and just like cars, its value cut in halve by 6 months. Battery life wont be a concern. I have a apple macbook for handling my important data, and ive tried xp on it with a x3100 and its playable at native resolutions Id say about an ati 9200 - 9600, not bad for a integrated solution, but still I want another laptop for gaming.

Answer:The cheapest laptop with a good graphics card.

If you're buying new I don't see you doing any better for $500. $500 laptops are for web surfing and typing, not for gaming. Maybe you can get a Vostro for around $600 with a low end dedicated gpu but that's not going to be terribly better.

What is the cheapest way to access the internet for an OAP in the UK who does not want email, or anything except occasional access to internet from his Laptop PC, winxp. He wont want to go having cables installed, or dishes erecting on house wall. Uses PC occasionally because he has no data access for it except me saving internet pages to usb tick !..and that takes my time and often fails anyway. The usb socket is type 1 !

Of course this prompts also the need for a virus checker but there are free ones like AVG.

Answer:What is cheapest internet access method laptop ?

I don't know about the UK, but here in the states we have pre-paid phone companies like TracFone/Net10.

I have a Net10 Android phone which is unlimited data/text/phone calls for a flat rate of $50 a month, no contract. SO, I downloaded a program called PDA Net for Android which will let you a.) tether your phone via USB, b.) connect via Bluetooth, or c.) turn the phone into a Wi-Fi hotspot.

The program is free, or a one time fee of $15 if you want to access secure sites like Hotmail, gmail, or any other secure site. Basically it is 3G access from your phone to the internet anywhere there is cell reception.

Hope you can dig up something similar "across the pond".

Hi there,

You should check out the Alienware M11x. It is affordable at $799 and it is a great gaming laptop. It has a smaller screen (11.6") so it is very portable and it has NVIDIA? GeForce? GT 335M graphics.

Please stick to your other thread here it sounds like the reduction in FPS is related to your cutting out problem and I suggested you reduced the settings (FPS) to see if the problem persisted.

Hello there,

I wasn't quite sure where to post this, but I thought under the games section would eb most beneficial.

I have recently bought a server from HFBServers which is a 50 slot DayZ Mod Arma 2 Server.
The server is running fine and I'm happy with the service so far.

I am really looking for someone to help me install custom scripts into the server as it is proving a tad too difficult for me to do alone.

I have followed instructions in the tutorials given but using a slightly more wizardy service i'm unsure where all files and folders are kept.

If anyone could help I would be eternally grateful.

Thanks in advance,

Question: Dayz BSOD

Right, i bought arma II CO to play this famous mod called dayz. My first day of playing was fine but after the first day, my pc started to stop responding and shut down itself. I had to do a hard reboot. These happend after playing half an hour or so.After some time passed, computer started to give me bsods with often about nvlddmkm.sys or sometimes -rarely- PFN_LIST_CORRUPTED. After these bsods, i started to crash after 10 secs of play.

I have tried couple of things to solve these bsods such as reinstalling nvidia driver, removing some bad drivers but for no good. Latter however, seems to be fixed. I no longer receive that one.

My specs as follows:

CPU:Intel Core2Duo e7200 2.53 GHz
Video card:Nvidia 9800GT
Motherboard:Gigabyte ep35-ds3r
Ram: 2x1 kingston 1gb 667 MHz and 1x1 kington 2gb 800 MHz
Power Supply:Cooler Naster RS-500-PCAP-A3
OS:Win7 Ultimate 64bit sp1

And this is the dmp file:
070112-42245-01.rar download - 2shared
It's also attached.

Answer:Dayz BSOD

Right, i believe the problem is my video card. Because i've lowered my graphic settings in Arma II giving the CPU more load and it lasted longer before bsod.

Dont know if its the right place to post but I started playing Dayz standalone again after one of the updates (0.52). It now feels like the game is unplayable. Before i had playable frames to the point i never felt the need to play with a fps counter now playing i can get 10 fps in citys or next to structures and 250 fps looking at sky and about 20 - 40 fps everywhere else. Surely this isn't good for the machine? The frames are never steady and it wasn't as bad as this before the update, any suggestions?

Will i cause myself more problems/damage trying to play it like this?
Also i keep seeing everywhere this is because my computer is AMD is this true?

Im just wondering would any one here know the specs for Dayz Standalone,i think they would be the same as dayz (mod) that runs from arma 2 but i have read on  some forums that they would be the same specs as Arma 3 due to running off the arma 3 engin

Answer:Dayz standalone Spec

Day Z standalone is not released yet, and there are no official hardware requirements available.  The engine is a modified ARMA II engine, with some code from the ARMA III engine.  I would expect the requirements to be in between the two, although this is nothing more than a guess as the game is not released and I'm not overly familiar with the ARMA games or their engines/performance.

Answer:BSOD with DayZ Arma 2 Mod

Since you are not getting any blue screens when playing any other games, your system will be probably okay. Mods are done by third parties and it is highly likely there may be serious bugs in the mod. I checked the official site and this mod is even not in beta stage. It is still a alpha release so i don't wonder in the crashes. You may contact the developer of the mod for possible resolution.

Answer:Windows 7 x64 5GB RAM still running Dayz slow

Hello SOR and welcome to Seven Forums.

Not trying to be nit-picky here, but it would help to know exactly what is slow. Is boot time slow? Shut down time? Opening web pages? Accessing files? Video or audio lagging when playing games? Downloading files from internet? Depending on what the issue is might determine a specific course of action to try and fix it.

In the meantime, you could try doing basic maintenance chores like running a full virus scan, disk cleanup, defrag, check disk, system file checker scan, etc.

Increase PC speed: Set up an automated PC maintenance routine in Windows

You could also follow the suggestions in this tutorial on how to optimize Windows 7. (Not every suggestion will apply. Feel free to pick and choose if you think it might help. But keep track of any changes you make to your computer so you can undo something if it turns out not to help.)

Optimize Windows 7

I personally do not recommend 3rd party defrag tools. I have seen them damage restore points and even cause blue screen crashes. Windows has some nice command line flags for the defrag command that will accomplish the same tasks as 3rd party programs. The -b and -w flags will defrag boot files and the boot registry items as well as compact the data to the center of the disk for faster access.defrag c: -b
defrag -c -v -w
The first command optimizes boot performance for the Windows drive by defragmenting boot files and boot registry items.

The second command includes all drives on the system through the -c command and optimizes the drives by compacting the data to the center of the disk. Verbose output through the -v option is optional to provide the user with more information abo... Read more

Could you please help me understanding how some files can exist on my PC when I do not download them myself. I also got suspicious behaviour done from my PC apparently which I do not understand how.

I play Arma 2 DayZ game with my friends on a particular server (pretty good one). Yesterday my PC tried to execute some files (hacks) while joining the gaming server without my attention / intervention.

I got banned from the server. Later I realized several different names / player ids were used to log in from my PC as well. It can be related to a hacker who came to the server 1 day ago and hacked the server. His name is Ryangash or something.

I searched my PC and found Ryan.DLL in my Local-> Temp folder and also in Local-> Temporary Internet Files folder

I dont know where this file came from or how it impacts my PC security. I am least bothered about the game but I am worried about sensitive data on my PC and my home network.

Can you please help me figure out how should i further debug this issue and rectify it ?

I can upload the DLL file if someone can look into it and tell me what is it ?

Please help.

I play Dayz a lot. Amazing game, but terrible performance. I sometimes have to deal with ten frames per second. I rarely ever get over thirty frames. I have added in startup parameters in Dayz Commander to help the game perform better, I have tweaked my settings and tried several things to boost FPS.
Is there anyone else that falls victim to this as well? Can someone give me some suggestions on how to increase my performance? And I am already planning on getting an EVGA Gtx 680 2gb for the standalone, but I don't know how much of a performance boost that will be on the mod as it is.
Also, I run Core Temp and TechPowerUp GPU-Z constantly and I monitor the loads and temps on my second monitor. I notice that I rarely ever get over a forty percent GPU load. When I enter big cities with lots of action going on my GPU load goes straight to zero and that's when I get the worst FPS. My processor hits a little over fifty percent load but it varies between cores. It doesn't seem like I am using the most out of my hardware. This is frustrating. I think Dayz has to be the worst optimized game I have ever played. I can play newer better graphics games maxed out and get over sixty frames.

Answer:Dayz worst optimized game ever?

Hi there I am having such a hard time with this laptop concerning gaming which is one of the main purposes I bought it for, especially considering the fact it was specifically advertised as a gaming laptop.  The 4K resolution has some serious scaling problems, reducing multiple programs to tiny boxes and things like that. Also apparently the rest of the hardware like the Nvidia Geforce GTX 860M graphics card and the CPU cant even keep up with this resolution which is why while running games at 4K, everything is incredibly slow and the FPS drops significantly. Its just silly. At most all my games I have to run at 1080p for the hardware to kick in and even then sometimes I can't even play on high settings. Like for instance I recently bought Assassins Creed Black Flag, which supports 4K reoslution and of course when I started playing, everything was so slow and laggy even on the lowest possible graphics settings. Once I changed the resolution to 1080p it shrank it down to a tiny size and was STILL super laggy and had a low FPS on high settings. Although changing the graphics settings down to the minumum helped with FPS issues to a 'playable' level, the screen was miniscule and unplayable. I am getting soooo many issues with this 4K resolution thing and im very surprised Lenovo did not mention this and further more label this Laptop as a "Gaming Laptop", as it is seriously turning out not to be and after looking at many reviews into this, a lot... Answer:Is the Lenovo Y50 Gaming Laptop even a "Gaming Laptop"???

Simply put not really. No mid range laptop is going to be able to run games at 4k which honestly should be pretty obvious. Most of the problems you're having have been covered in various reviews :/

Hi sevenforums

At my wits end. After running and passing every single test I can find I'm at a loss as to why my new rig bombs a few mins into playing Arma 2 / DayZ standalone.

. I ran Memtest 86+ and completed 4 passes
. Finished the Burn-in test on Furmark
. Finished Prime95... err
. Ran Chkdsk /R on Sata and SSD

After reading a similar post the only thing I can think of is my Belkin Wireless N has slightly ropey drivers but I have the right version installed according to the website.

have filled in my systems specs but didnt have an option for psu so here it is.

Hi there,

I recently made a Dayz Epoch server about a week ago, and have been trying to get people to connect to it since, I practically made the server on the first day got it running, i was able to connect to it no problems, my friends can't see the server on the list and I'm wondering where i have gone wrong, im hoping that if i give enough information that it should give an idea as to where the discrepancy is.

Firstly here is my computer stats:

Machine name: LAPTOP-PC
Operating System: Windows 7 Professional 64-bit (6.1, Build 7601) Service Pack 1 (7601.win7sp1_gdr.150316-1654)
Language: English (Regional Setting: English)
System Manufacturer: TOSHIBA
System Model: Satellite L550
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU P7450 @ 2.13GHz (2 CPUs), ~2.1GHz
Memory: 4096MB RAM
Available OS Memory: 4060MB RAM
Page File: 4171MB used, 3948MB available
Windows Dir: C:\Windows
DirectX Version: DirectX 11

User DPI Setting: Using System DPI
System DPI Setting: 96 DPI (100 percent)
DWM DPI Scaling: Disabled
DxDiag Version: 6.01.7601.17514 64bit Unicode

Now this is what i did in order:

Made a folder on my desktop called ARMA, copied my arma 2 operation arrowhead root folder from steam into ARMA and also the arma 2 folder from steam, then i copied my Epoch_server rar files and folders into there as well, once they had moved i moved from config examples the map folder and batch file i was going to use for my missi... Hi, I'm getting seemingly random BSOD's. The text says something about cdd.dll, I've googled it but it seems to be very individual and a diag is almost always requested so I attached my dumps here. Thanks in advance!

This may occur when playing CS:GO, maybe it's the reason or maybe I just play way too much CS:GO

Answer:random Occuring BSOD, cdd.dll, first occured when installing DayZ

Welcome to the forum.

AVG is contributing to your BSOD's. Please remove it for testing purpose. Use Microsoft Security Essentials.

Recommended from a strict BSOD perspective, compatibility & stability compared to other security software:

Microsoft Security Essentials - Free Antivirus for Windows

Malwarebytes - Free

Good and Free system security combination.

So when I play DayZ standalone, and am Using teamspeak 3, I can load the main menu of the game, browse servers, and all that jazz just fine. Once I've loaded into a server, I can count on a BSOD within 3 or so minutes. I've tried playing without teamspeak, that doesn't seem to help with my issue.

I'm using the latest drivers as of a couple weeks ago, and everything was running fine until yesterday. I've no idea what the problem is.

Answer:BSOD playing DayZ standalone. Attached SFdebugFile

Is there any particular reason that you're not using UEFI or SecureBoot? I only ask to see if there were problems with it. DO NOT enable it now - only do that if you're reinstalling Windows later on.

MSI Afterburner (along with Riva Tuner and EVGA Precision) are known to cause BSOD's in some Windows systems (it's driver is usually RTCore64.sys). Please un-install them immediately!

If you're overclocking, please stop the overclock while we're troubleshooting. Feel free to resume the overclock once the system has been stabilized.

Out of 9 memory dumps there were 5 different BSOD error codes. The differing error codes are usually symptomatic of a lower level problem within the system. They are usually caused by one of these things:
- borked (broken) hardware (several different procedures used to isolate the problem device)
- BIOS issues (check for updates at the motherboard manufacturer's website)
- overclocking/overheating - You'll know if you're overclocking or not. If uncertain we can suggest things to check.
- missing Windows Updates
- compatibility issues (3rd party hardware/drivers) - and older systems
- low-level driver problems
- or even malware (scanned for when we ask for hardware diagnostics from Initial Hardware Diagnostics or Hardware Diagnostics ).

You can get a head start on the hardware diagnostics if you'd like - they are located here: Hardware Diagnostics

I just bought a new laptop, it's Toshiba L300. I loved it so much, but then I tried to run Sims 2 in it and it's so slow even though I already lowered all the settings, it's still slow. Now my questions is: Can I increase the specs of my laptop so I can play games in it especially Sims 2 and 4?

Answer:Is it possible to make my laptop a gaming laptop?

Laptops are very difficult to upgrade. If money was no object, you might be able to do something, but practically speaking you are stuck with what you have.

There are "gaming" laptops, but they are quite expensive compared to a desktop. And they are prone to high temperatures and expensive to repair.

It's pretty big and heavy to haul around though. They have several configurations of the new model.
You might be able to find an older model like mine on Amazon a little cheaper than a current ones.

You concerned about battery life, size, or weight?
Fair warning, most "gaming" laptops have very poor battery life and are often heavier than regular laptops.

Just pick a few and read reviews of them. Amazon, Newegg, places like that. see if the positive comments overwhelmingly beat the negative. Even then, remember some new items can be bad or the person just didn't know how to setup or use it right. Read both, positive and negative on the ones your considering, then just go for it.

Hey guys, I've got another favour to ask, could someone perhaps help me find a laptop that's similar to this ASUS in specs, but perhaps a little cheaper? Preferably located in Australia for easy shipping, but can be outside of Australia if deemed better.

Question: gaming on a laptop

Hi , due to unforseen circumstances i have been left with only my trusty old laptop to play World Of Warcraft .. I have a packard bell easynote F7280 which has 64 mb shared ram graphics .The problem is sometimes i'm only getting 2 or 3 frames per second .As you can imagine this is quite frustrating so i was wondering if anyone knew a way i could improve the performance of the gameplay ??? Thanks in advance for any help you can give .

Answer:gaming on a laptop

The only thing you will be able to add to that laptop is ram, thats it.

I don't believe that that laptop will ever be able to play that game.

Question: Laptop Gaming

I'm getting some lag on Portal when graphics are maxed. I'm thinking my GPU is the bottleneck here, but here are the specs:

8 GB 1333 MHz DDR3 RAM
Intel Core i7 740 QM
ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5650 1 GB GDDR3
500 GB 7200 RPM HDD
1920x1080 OLED multi-touch LCD

Also, it gets pretty hot when I'm running like this. My laptop is barely thicker than a netbook which makes me wonder if a more powerful GPU will even fit in there.

Answer:Laptop Gaming

There's no point thinking about other GPU's unless the 1 you have is removable which I doubt it is. The GPU (and subsiquent memory) is mounted on the mainboard.

The main problem is that 'mobile' GPU's just don't have the same power as their desktop counterparts and as such, running high performance games/apps will require more than the mobile GPU can offer (depending on in-game settings).

Saying that, you have a very impressive laptop and i'm now highly jealous but i'd look at lowering some of the in-game/app GFX settings and see if the problem still arises.

Another thing to note (and it's just me having my 'standard' head on lol) is that you need to make sure that all fan/heatsync ports have plenty of space as this can cause overheating.

I was originally in the 4-500 dollar range, but i thought if i sold my 360 and all its games might be able to get something more.

Whats frustrating me is that pretty much everywhere i go, its the same thing as in the 4-500 dollar range except with a dual core i5 instead of a dual core i3 (they are both dual core, clock speed doesnt matter that much to me).

What is the best laptop i can get? i dont need to run the most graphically intensive games, but i want to have a fast laptop and be able to play skyrim on high ish settings.

I mean, a 520m is good, but i can get a laptop with that for 500...same with APUs, etc.
So i want BETTER.

Hi guys, selling my custom built (by Chillblast) gaming laptop as I don't use it as much as I should and I'd much rather it be used and appreciated by someone. It's in 9/10 condition with only a tiny amount of wear and tear, it's a great laptop which was bought for ~ £2000 two years ago.

32 Gb of RAM
Intel Core i7-4800MQ @ 2.70Ghz (8 CPUs)
Windows 10 (64-bit)
Intel HD Graphics 4600 is default when not running games because it is integrated with the CPU
Geforce GTX 780M with approx. total memory of 20355 Mb is used whenever a game is run

The laptop runs games flawlessly. I've also used it a lot for photo and video editing as I am a Photography student and it handles that excellently.
Could you please advise me on how much I should be looking for considering its age but also its quality?
Thanks, Chafe

Answer:Value my gaming laptop please!

Not really - offering advice about selling prices for secondhand computers is not part of the service we offer. In general terms, however, computers devalue at the rate of around 45% per year.
Apply that formula, and you'll get an estimate of the likely market value of your machine. It will only be an estimate, because selling any secondhand item involves a degree of luck - someone who wants what you're selling has to come along at the right time.
Take a look on Ebay - there may be a similar machine for sale.

We cannot do what you ask. We cannot predict the future (as much as we would love to be able to). Prices change daily in the computing world. £1500 laptops now will be worth circa £700 - 800 in September or replaced by newer faster machines completely.Laptop adapters is pointless to look at as they vary in price depending on what laptop you have. Power consumption and the power connector vary between laptops so while 99% of laptops can be probably be run off one of these there is still the chance you will end up with one that wont work on yours. Best to tell the IT department that you cannot do what they want just yet. Maybe come July or August. But not a hope in February.

Question: Best Gaming Laptop

I'm looking for some direction in the purchase of a new laptop and would welcome any suggestions to a specific Brand and model. I know there is a wealth of experiences out there and I would like to draw from it.

Here are the critieria:

1) Needs to be a laptop using a Windows OS(user needs a portable workstation, but it doesnt need to be light. previous laptop was a Dell Inspirion and weighed like a brick)

2) Needs to be outstanding playing games so a good processor, ram, graphic card configuration is key. ( Processor would probably be in the P4 range with minimum 256 MB ram and i figure using the Radeon 9000 mobile card is the minimum, but if people are seeing better results with the new nVidia I'd like to hear about it)

3) ideally made by a major electronics manufacturer, for customer service/reliabilty reasons. Alienware is about as small a company that I would go for, unless the response is overwhelmingly in favor of a small-mom-and-pop operation.

4)Price should be under $2500

5) Cant be a Dell. User had a really bad experiece (an atypical one in my view) and will not even consider buying another dell.

Thats it! Any Models that people really like, I'd love to hear about it.

Question: Gaming laptop?

Hey Team,
I'm a rookie when it comes to computers, so I need the advice of you wise internet folk

I'm toying with the notion of getting a new laptop, or perhaps going the direction of a desktop. Due to limited time and budget, I won't be building my own desktop.
I need your advice to help me decide between a laptop or a desktop (I've narrowed my options to two models that quite interest me:
[Gateway laptop or desktop.

I intend to use it for mild gaming (DOWII, SCII, COD:BO, D3 (if it ever comes out)) so I'm wondering which system will better handle my needs.
Yes, I understand the differences of portability between a laptop and a desktop. I only need to move my computer to different locations a half dozen times a year, but the covenience of a laptop is very nice for these situations!

Any and all input is appreciated!

Question: Gaming laptop

Alright I'm not going to sugar coat it so here it goes. Currently I have a Asus g72gx (linky shown below) Asus - Laptop with Intel® Core™2 Duo Processor - Black - G72GX-RBBX05 Now here's my problem. Three days (yes three) after i bought this product the newer model came out(linky shown bellow)
Asus - Laptop with Intel® Core™ i5 Processor - Blue/Black - G60JX-RBBX05 So my question is it worth it to go exchange them. For one thing the one I have right now has a 260 Nvidia in it while the new one has a 360 which was built for mobile devices and can be said as a little bit better than the 260. The bad part is that its one inch less than the one I have now so the new model is 16 while the g72 is 17. As well as a new processor the new model totally outclasses this one. As well as my other question should I wait a few weeks after i return my laptop and see if best buy has anymore "surprises" under its sleeves? Any info is much appreciated. Like whether I would really notice the diff. of one inch. Or whether I would notice the difference in the processor. Main use of this laptop is gaming hint hint as it says in the title!

Answer:Gaming laptop

I'm not sure but judging from the GFX cards on both, don't think you would see major difference, if any particular difference at all. Only better stuff mainly in the both is the processor, but the Core 2 Duo is a great processor also and it won't quite go behind the other. Also the 1 with the Core 2 Duo has 6GB RAM, which kinda makes up for CPU speed difference I think, if it matters much.

Question: Gaming laptop

Hey Im entertaining the idea of purchasing a gaming/video editing rig laptop with ok specs, I know Lenovo pumped out the y700 with a sub 970 Graphics card, and Asus seems decent with it's G series, 551. Price point below $2,000. Can anyone chime in and offer some tips?

Answer:Gaming laptop

I've got a Lenovo Y50-70 (the 2.6 GHz to 3.6GHz variant), and it handles intense graphics and calculations (molecular dynamics) pretty well - of course not as good as a full-rigged desktop would. I'd recommend a Lenovo of an equal or higher specification since I've got one, but I can't speak for Asus.

Question: Gaming Laptop

I am Tara Covell.
I have think to buy a good gaming monitor under $900. I like to playing online games regularly. So, would you tell me best gaming monitor which enhancing my gaming experience.
I have seen some articles. I see the Dell 15.6-Inch Gaming Laptop(6th Gen Intel Quad-Core i5-6300HQ Processor up to 3.2GHz, 8GB DDR3, 256GB SSD, Nvidia GeForce GTX 960M, Windows 10) under $900.
So, tell me "it is good enough or not".

Answer:Gaming Laptop

As long as you realize that for under $1,000, you're going to be buying  a compromise between gaming and price, it's a decent system.  It will absolutely NOT allow you to play high-hardware-demand games without reducing the video settings -- the 960M is a capable chip but it's low-end these days where gaming is concerned.
If you're looking for top-level gaming, double your budget for a notebook OR buy a desktop system.  $900 can buy or build a very capable gaming desktop with a very good 970 or 10xx GPU in it -- an order of magnitude better than any notebook available at that price point.
The rule of two still applies - a $900 notebook will give you the performance of a $450 desktop, or looked at the other way, you'll pay $1,800 or more for a notebook that gets you what a $900 desktop does.

Depends on what you consider "gaming". What kind of games are you looking to play?

Have you looked into used gaming laptops on Craigslist / eBay, or refurbished ones on Amazon/Newegg?

I was looking to get another pc and I was thinking of getting a laptop or "desktop replacement." I've been looking around at all the custom sites like adk and puget and I'm not really sure what to look for. I've also been looking at those Dell XPS laptops. Basically what I'd like to know is a) what's the difference between the different processors available b) what should I look for in a graphics card and c) how do I know I'm getting a good deal. As far as graphics go, I'm looking to play next-gen stuff like UT2k7 and whatever else's coming out in the near future. Thanks in advance for any info.

Answer:Looking for gaming laptop

in my opinion... Alienware makes the only "real" gaming laptop. I say this because they use desktop CPUs (Athlon64 FX and Athlon64 X2), where as other so-called "gaming laptops" such as the Dell XPS models use the Intel Pentium-M CPU. Athlon64 CPU's by design are superior to Pentiums... especially when it comes to gaming.

To sujest anything for you however, we need to know how much you are willing to spend.

Whatever you decide to do, you need to realize that laptops are generally not upgradeable (except for adding RAM, or a mini-pci card). So what may be a top-of -the-line laptop today, will still be a nice machine in 2 years.... but will not be able to play the newest games anymore.

Question: Gaming laptop

Any body help me find good laptops for should be dell

Answer:Gaming laptop

Personally, I'd stay away from Dell; they have a bad track record when it comes to support.

If you're looking for OEM companies, Asus is the best in my opinion; their laptops are reasonably priced and come with some pretty good components.

If you want to try something different, go with a system builder; XoticPC is pretty good according to reviews. I've talked with their customer support and they are fantastic. They'll help you make a pretty good build, and their prices are not too crazy. They're a bit more expensive than other system builders, but the extra price is worth the great support and reassurance that what you get has been quality tested, will work to your satisfaction and also give you a great warranty.

If you're steadfast about Dell, then go with the XPS series and get at least a 15 inch laptop; anything less than that is not gonna do you justice in the parts nor the screen resolution.

Answer:need help with gaming laptop

Not the best to answer this (hence why I'm scanning beginner forum), but as no one has. Everything looks good except the graphics card which is integrated with the processor. I found this doesn't work as well for gaming as it causes issues when the processor is working hard and trying to do decent graphics.
That said mine is not as good (cheaper and a year old) but I still think get a discrete graphics card.
Quick scan of ebuyer came up with the below for £630. Not sure how the processor compares and the screens smaller. Its more for comparison as it was the first on the list.
Samsung SF310 LaptopIntel Core i5-480M 2.66GHz
13.3" HD LED
NVIDIA GeForce 310M
Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit
Lastly without expert knowledge shopping for a discrete/integrated card is pretty hard as they are often not very clear in the description

It doesn't have to be one of those extreme alienware laptops though because im not really a gamer... I'd just like it to be able to run some simple games if i wanted to play them. such as spore or other games... but i'd still like it to be fast and be able to run those games, not necessarily with perfect clarity or on the highest graphics levels.
