Laptop keyboard type wrong keys

Question: Laptop keyboard type wrong keys

This is a laptop Advanta brand. After keyboard crush I exchange for another one. Part of the keys working fine, part not. Some of them shows upper marks, which usually goes with Shift. Other shows numbers instead of letters. Totally mess.

I connected regular keobard just for the test and works fine.

Is this a keyboard problem? (Seller assures 100% work ) Or rather computer system?

What eventually I can check?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

1) My 2 year old ACER Aspire 5 keyboard just stop working in a couple of capacities. First, the numbers on the 10 key wouldn't type at all. Checked Num Lock, fine, then tried to type numbers at top of keyboard, well, some typed the right number but most didn't or typed more than one number.

2) Ran Webroot Anti-spyware and Anti-Virus, clean. Then I shook my computer to see if any crumbs or foreign materials were throwing something off, clean. Took out battery, nada.

3) Restored computer to the day before any problems. Changed nothing. Pressed every key to see if something was stuck or key broken. None.

4) The Delete, Backspace, Enter and Space Bar do NOT work at all. So basically, the entire keyboard is not working due to something. If I type any one key, some of them type what I wanted but continue to type the letter or number until I log out of my Google Engine.

5) I have always had issues with the keyboard. I will be typing along and the cursor will randomly go back to previous sentences and start typing what I am currently typing. It is so annoying. Why is it hopping all over the place?

6) A computer major friend who teaches computer classes said to write to Google and maybe I would find others with similar problems. I found several "sticky keys" problems but none on point with none of the keys working or working properly. He suggested perhaps a Trojan Horse virus but my sweeps come up clean...

7) Can anyone help me???

Thank you,
Shawnascy

Answer:Laptop keys stopped working and some type the wrong thing...

It could be a virus. But It also could just be your keyboard is bad. You may need to take it to your local repair shop if it. Is a laptop and have them check the keyboard out for you. I really do not think it is a virus.

The keyboard on my Dell 1501, will not the letters I,O,P when I press them. My laptop is older, just three years, and has had moderate use, mainly my husband looking for information. It has the Vista program, I know, but it has worked basically fine for the little use it gets. Nothing has been spilled on it, could they be worn out/

Is there anyway to take the keyboard cover off without damaging it and look to see if there is some type of debris blocking the connection?

Answer:3 keys won't type on keyboard

Inspiron 1501 laptop from Dell seems straight forward for removing keyboard to check for debris. Check it out at:
http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/ins1501/en/sm_en/keyboard.htm#wp1111863
Read directions carefully as laptops are quite delicate.

good Luck
Failing that, a new one shouldn't be too expensive.

I recently installed a new hard drive and windows xp onto my computer. I let it automatically find the drivers for my keyboard (because i do not have any for it). When I start using it some of the keys are in the wrong place: the pound sign on 3 is in fact a Hash, i cannot have a pound sign without doing insert; symbol, the @ and the " have swapped. I have tried downloading the latest drivers from microsoft (it is a Microsoft internet keyboard) and that hasn't done anything. I can't find any settings for the keys. Please HelpThanxT

What's a good way to stop the keys from skipping leters when I type? This just started happening, and this system is only a year old.
thanks-

Answer:Keyboard keys skipping letters when I type

I think we are going to need a bit more info here....are they skipping completely? or are they just delayed? Do any of the keys on your keyboard appear to be stuck lower than the others? Have you spilled anything on your keyboard lately? Make sure it's connected securely to the computer and moving sometimes loosens connections. Also, maybe if you have some canned air, you can blow out around the keys.

Hi, my Down Arrow key, Spacebar and  Backspace does not work as intended.
Down Arrow: Pressing it moves the cursor down at the same time inserts a space where it was in the beginning

Spacebar: Inserts space and brings the cursor down (only if characters are present below)

Backspace: Can not delete by long pressing but instead has to press every single time.
What could be the possible cause? Hardware or software? Can editing the registry bring about a solution?

Thank You

Hello, I went through the process of cleaning my mouse while the monitor was off and I'm fairly sure I clicked something maybe I shouldn't have but after that the whole keyboard was messed up..

E shows up as ]
D shows up as ''

Esc, start, [ , n, y, I, F1-F12 keys don't register, among a few others..

Things I've tried so I don't waste anyones time.. [Windows 7]
Changed Location, Keyboard Layout (English - US) is the only language
Ctrl - Shift x1/2, Alt - Shift x1/2, and pretty much any other variant I could think of.
Plugged another keyboard in, same thing.
Plugged keyboard in another computer, works like a charm.
Restarted, plugged and unplugged. Uninstalled and tried to update driver..

Nothing worked so far, hopefully you can can make something happen.
Thanks in advance.

Hi

I have a Sony Vaio VGN-CR363. Since last evening, I'm facing a problem with the four arrow keys. They type strange characters.

The up key ends up tying "oig". The down key ends up typing a backslash. RIght key types "LJH" and left key types ",mn". This is happening in all the applications - office, notepad, browser, etc. It's the same characters every time, not some random characters. For example, if I turn the Num Lock on, the "oig" becomes "65g".

All other keys are working absolutely fine. Only these four keys are an issue. These also work fine for 2-3 mins in between suddenly, and then go back to their erratic but predictable ways!!

I tried uninstalling the driver and then reinstalling, cleaning the keyboard (the keys are absolutely in shape visually). As a heavy user of Office, I am finding it impossible to handle this even for a day...

Please help with a solution/ suggestion....

Answer:Keyboard problem - arrow keys type junk characters

In our experience with the Vaio keyboards, you have reached the time when a replacment NEW keyboard is the best option.
Sometimes, turning the keyboard upside down and giving it a thorough cleaning with difluoroethane gas such as Dust Off (a lot of it) will take care of it... but not often.

I am having a problem where my keyboard displays the wrong keys. For example, the "K" key displays "2" and the "P" key displays "." It is mostly on the right side of my keyboard and mostly numbers interfering.
I have attempted to adjust the regional settings but they are all set properly. Also I tried to update/reinstall the keyboard and its drivers and that did not help either.

Please someone help soon, I am using a different computer to submit this or I wouldnt be able to type this out properly. The computer with the problem is a laptop so I have not attempted to use another keyboard on it but im sure that wont solve this issue.

The keyboard keys are Correct as far as I can tell pre-login when I type my password to login to windows the keys work fine. After logging in is when some of the keyboard keys start acting up.

Answer:Keyboard Displays Wrong Keys After Logging Into Windows

Sounds like your Number Locks is on.(Num LK)
Typically you can turn it off by pressing the Num Lk key, or by using a key sequence - ctrl + Num Lk.
Depends on the make and model of the laptop. Do you see a Num Lk key?

If you still have problems, let us know the make and model of your laptop.

Hi,

Apologies for what is probably a stupid question.
I have a Tecra A2 and run XP proffesional.
Suddenly some of the keys are typing symbols different to those indicated on the keys.
Pleeeeze tell me how to reset the keyboard to default.

With thanks, Danny.

Answer:Keyboard keys of Tecra A2 typing wrong symbols?

Hi mate,

it could be that you have a wrong keyboard map. A keyboard map is like a draft for your hardware which identfies which char is displayed when you hit a key on your keyboard.
Keyboard maps a depending which language you use so if the symbols on the screen do not match the input of your typing then it could be that a wrong keyboard map is set.

In such case you will have to set another keyboard language.

To change the keyboard map you must do the following:
Click Start -> Settings -> Control Panel -> Regional and Language options -> Click on the Tab "Languages" -> Details -> Choose your input language which matches your keyboard

Good luck and nice weekend

L512 keyboard problem - I have to type quite hard on the keys, otherwise keypresses get lost. When I read what I've typed, I often encounter missing characters, especially after hitting the same key twice in a row. It's annoying work and it makes my spelling look ridiculous if I don't find the errors. Thinkpads are known for their good typing ergonomy, and the key springs have a distinct mechanical "click" that gives you tactile feedback of keys being pressed. But on this keyboard, there is not always a result even when the "click" has been made - the key switch seems to react at a height slightly lower than the click level, missing many keypresses when I type softly and swiftly. Instead I have to type loudly and aggressively if I want to be sure that no character was lost! This behaviour has been the same since day 1, so it's not an aging issue. And it's the same on all keys - letters, numbers, arrow keys, etc. Is this a commonly known hardware problem? I have 7 days left on my warranty - should I use it??? (Ironically, the main reason that i retired my old T41 laptop after 5 years was that some of the most used keys were glitchy and often didn't respond.)

Answer:l512 keyboard problem - I have to type quite hard on the keys, otherwise keypresses get lost.

Well, the L512 we have here has some keys that show a behaviour that you describe here. But that's not annoying in any way on our machine. Your keyboard may be sort of out of tolerance. If you can't live with it, contact your dealer for a warranty exchange. Since you have a Thnkpad, it's a matter of minutes to exchange the keyboard even if you're not the most skilled technician. RegardsUmbi

Hi, I just purchased my x301. Did a lot of research - seems like an awesome laptop. As such, I sense my user experience should also be much better than the T60 laptop I've owned for ~5 years. I want to ensure that my model is not defective. I'm wondering if anyone encountered these issues with their x301:Eye strain: This is a much better display: LED, 1440x900 res, brighter, and I've pumped up the DPI and font size so I'm not squinting, but sometimes still feel like I'm suffering from eye strain - even after 20 minutes of use.  I didn't experience this with my T60 - even after 14+ hours of consecutive use. I've reduced the brightness level to 2-3 below max to see if that may help...Stiff keys: I can definitely type faster on my T60. 2 service center professionals indicated that the keys will loosen up. On x301 and other Thinkpad store demos, I also seemed to require much less force to press the keys relative to my own x301. Wondering if anyone else encountered this and did your keys in fact loosen up and if so, how long did it take?Horizontal scroll: I've adjusted the settings so that vertical scroll seems to work quite effortlessly, but many times the horizontal scroll just does not work? Any thoughts, suggestions are very appreciated.

Answer:x301 issues: eye strain; keyboard hard to type / press keys; horizontal scroll

If you're running Windows, I suggest you try the ClearType tweaking tool from Microsoft.  For XP, the on-line version is at On-line ClearType and that also has a pointer to the downloadable version.

I have a Dell M1330 Laptop that has served me quite well for several years. I just replaced the keyboard the other day and everything is working fine, except that the new keyboard has a slightly different layout than the old keyboard did. For example, with the new keyboard all the F1, F2, F3, etc.. keys have function secondaries on them like multimedia, brightness, antennae toggle, and so on. My old keyboard didnt have most of these and so when I attempt to use them on the new keyboard they simply do not work. In fact when I use function keys as if I still had my old keyboard installed the functions work, which means it is the software interpretation of the keys that I need to change. Does anybody know how I can fix this so that the keys of the new keyboard and functions match what the keys actually say?

Another thing to add is that some of the new function keys on the new laptop such as antennae toggle were not on my last keyboard at all because they are softkeys on the case of my computer, and I am not sure a function like that would be able to be added to the keyboard mapping at all, but I'm not sure.

Also, I would prefer to not install third party software to accomplish this, even if it means I need to delve into the registry manually. Can anybody help??

I had a problem with my laptop which is certain key on my keyboard is not functioning. The weird is, it happened without a reason. because after I shutdown doing my work when I turn it on again, I discovered my "s", "d", "g", "h", "\", "m", " left shift", "caps lock" and "~" key did not work at all. I try taking the key off, cleaning underneath, but nothing seems to be working. After that I try to use usb keyboard and it seems the key can be entered. My son has a Dell Inspiron running Windows Vista. His computer was fine and he made no changes to it whatsoever. He came to me very upset claiming that his keyboard was not working properly.
I took a look at it and sure enough, it will not type the following letters:c,h,l,t, ***U,v. Since his password contained the letter "L," once he logged out he was no longer able to log back in.
He asked me to reinstall his operating system. I have done so, except now I'm on the screen where it asks me to type a username and password - and guess what? It still won't type those letters! I even tried the virtual keyboard - it will not type those letters using it either. However, when you press the "U" key (whether on the keyboard or the virutal keyboard) a window pops up titled: Ease of Access, and it gives me the option of hearing text onscreen, making items larger, etc.
I cannot even begin to imagine how to fix this. Please, if any of you know what to do, help me please??

Answer:Both laptop keyboard and virtual keyboard will not type certain letters

OMG! I have to add this additional information:
I just accidentally pressed the "shift" key when I tried to type an "L." It typed the "L!!" But it still will not type a lower case "L." When I press the "Caps Lock" key, it has no effect - it still will not type the letter L. This is the case with all of the above noted letters. All of them will type only if I press the "shift" key.

The "United States-International" keyboard layout option is supposed to let you type accents by pressing the right-alt key at the same time as ' " ~ ` or ^ followed by the letter you want to accent. For some reason on my computer the right-alt key does not work for this purpose, but left-alt and left-shift do. Unfortunately this is conflicting with all sorts of things so I really need to figure out how to get it to work with the right-alt key as it is supposed to. I have no idea what could be causing this problem so I don't know what other information to include. Any idea how to get this working properly for me?

some of the keys wont work when i tap them on my laptop they just stop working now i have to use onscreen keyboard

Answer:how to get laptop keyboard keys to work

This could be a driver problem with your computer. If has been recently updated to W7, then make sure that you have all proper drivers for your keyboard. However, chances are that you fried your keyboard (spilling something or other such instances have been known to do this). Try contacting your Laptop manufacturer.

Answer:Problem with laptop keyboard keys

Hard to say if software is the issue or if its the hardware itself. did you spill anything on the keyboard? As far as software goes, try restoring from a recovery point in the past when the keyboard was working. Click the Start button -> in search box type "system restore" hopefully this has been turned on. You can also try looking up the laptop on the manufactures website to see if there are any available updates for the keyboard or other firmware updates related to the keyboard or motherboard. I suggest you update all that you can. if still no good possible hardware issue; I would first try to re-seat the keyboards ribbon cable but this requires you taking apart your laptop if you're up to it.

Its hard cause they are scissor keys and dont have the spacing that standard keyboards have beteween the keys. Will a can of air work? Im not sure if the plastic tube will fit between to blow the dust out.

I occasionally turn it upside down and shake it like mad too, which helps.

I have an HP DV9700T laptop. Is there a tech that reads this forum?
My (9 O L . ) buttons are dead on my laptop.
I ordered a new one & installed it. I still have the same problen.
A friend told me it may be a component (chip, diode, or resistor) on the MB that died.

There must be a tech that knows what controls these keys.

Any help, Please??

I bought a laptop that has a horrible keyboard layout without noticing (the funny thing is i inquired about the tiniest detail in the laptop, yet i didn't notice the keyboard's layout).

Anyway, the problem is that next to my space bar there are "| \", "Ins", "Del" and "Alt Gr" keys (i'd really love to shoot the guy who made it). Now what i want to do is remap those buttons to this order : "Alt", Windows key, menu key, "right Ctrl", just like a standard keyboard. How can this be done?

I already tried KeyTweak, but it's not working. Is there any other good utility i can use? i'm using windows XP Home SP2 on my laptop btw.

any help is MUCH appreciated

Microsoft has a utility that works for 2K and XP, it's called REMAPKEY.EXE. It's part of this downloadable Windows Server 2003 Resource Kit, and will do the trick for you.

I have been having problems lately with some of the keys on my laptop keyboard. Sometimes when I press some of the keys they won't work, and sometimes pressing a letter once will make it register twice in a Word document. The laptop is about 4 years old, and I know that you can't do anything really about a laptop KB since it's built in, but is there anything I could try to see if I can fix the problem? It doesn't happen all the time...maybe I just need to buy some KB cleaning supplies to try and get under the keys?

Thanks in advance..

Answer:Keys on laptop keyboard won't work?

I had a HP that had similar problems, and it was indeed a bad keyboard. Luckily for me it was still under warranty. For low tech cleaning, you might try some compressed air to blow out dust/hair etc around the keys. If it is a bad keyboard, you may be able to replace it yourself.

Since a couple of hours ago, every time I press certain keys on my laptop (A Samsung satellite), instead of a single letter I get a two letter combination. Also, I can not backspace these letters individually. I have to hold it down and then it deletes the the whole two letter combination. The shift key, q key and backspace all seem to be a bit buggy. I've restarted several times with no difference.

Combinations: W=SW E=CE R=RT T=RT Y=UY U=UY I=KI O=O[ P=;P [=O[ S=SW, F=FG G=FG H=JH J=JH K=KI L=L' ;=;P '=L' C=CE

As you can see, they seem to be paired but it's not every key on the keyboard. It's more or less impossible to use to the keyboard right now (this is with an external keyboard)

Thanks for any help.

I assume you have rebooted it already? In most cases that indicates a faulty keyboard, was something spilled on it?

Also, are you sure it's a Samsung Satellite and not a Toshiba Satellite?

The problem began almost a year ago where about three keys would sometimes work and sometimes not, but recently it became more persistent to the point where those three keys don't work at all anymore. Now more keys are starting to develop the initial problem (and soon will stop working entirely, also).

Laptop specs are...
OS: Windows 10 Home (was Windows 8.1)
Model: Toshiba Satellite Radius P55W-B (with touch screen support)
Processor: Inter(R) Core(TM) i7-4510U CPU @ 2.00GHz 2.60 GHz
RAM: 8.00 GB
System type: 64-bit OS, x64-based processor
I can't recall if the problem started before or after updating to Windows 10, so I haven't tried to revert back to 8.1 (and I don't want to if I can help it, quite frankly, but will if suggested necessary). Here are solutions I've tried to solve my problem, all to which none have worked...
Carefully removed unresponsive keys from keyboard without damage including the plastic clip that snaps between the key and the laptop keyboard, and thoroughly cleaned with compressed air.
Searched for a system restore point, but none dated further than a month from today, and the issue happened much longer ago.
Went into Device Manager, updated PS/2 Standard Keyboard driver, and rebooted computer.

Please help me because I have been trying for 3 hours now and want to cry haha. I used my laptop last night and the cat did walk over it, as she usually does so it may have been something she has done or just a coincidence this has happened.

I just went to use my laptop tonight and could not log in because I noticed that my A key was not working which is in my password so used the onscreen key board, I then discovered probably half of my other keys also are not working!!!

I have uninstalled the keyboard in the device manager and nothing, I have even installed Unbuntu to see if it would work in there as one person suggested. I have turned the laptop off, took the battery and power cable out, held the power button for 60 seconds, put it all back together and started it up, nothing.

I have stolen my boyfriends keyboard from his desktop PC and that is working fine. I just do not know what to try next if anything or if to just go ahead and back my stuff up and reinstall windows (using windows 10).

I do not understand why it is only some keys as surely if it was the actual keyboard then it all would not be working which is why I think it might be a windows thing maybe, but then why does the USB keyboard work fine.

Thanks for any help and let me know if you need anymore information

how to correct the key

Answer:Win 7 laptop keyboard cannot type letter A

Generic question, generic answer.A single key not working is probably a problem in the keyboard itself. If under warranty, bring/send it back (after backing up your files) for repair/replacement. If not, you can try a driver update from your manufacturer's website, but I am not confident that a software update if really the answer here. You may have to have a factory authorized service center repair/replace the keyboard and pay for it (if it is reasonably new but out of warranty).((Unless anyone else disagrees with me on this))You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane. If all else fails, read instructions.

Answer:Laptop Keyboard Replacment.Keys mismapped.

You haven't given much information to go on so a few questions first.

What was the problem that made you buy a new keyboard ?

What make and model is the laptop ?

Does the new keyboard have the same key layout as the old one ?

You don't need drivers for keyboards unless you change language or similar.

Hi all, used to frequent this site many moons ago but I'll be darned if I can remember my name!

Ignore my system specs; this is for my Acer Aspire 5551 laptop running Windows 7 64-bit, 6GB 1333 RAM.

The keyboard was second hand from eBay two or possibly three years ago. From the get-go the 'h' key never played ball, sometimes having to be pressed hard in order for it to respond (and then sometimes logging multiple instances). I could just about cope with that.

Now though, among others the following keys have utterly ceased to function.

So far I've tried the ol' method of taking out the battery for a minute. I've had the keyboard off and examined the ribbon; no unusual kinks or damage are visible. I also kept pressing the afflicted keys while moving the ribbon in the hope that it was a kink. No joy there.

Before I relent and buy a new board (they're cheap enough, but if I can save money this close to Christmas then everyone's a winner!) does anyone have any clues or experience with this kind of issue?

So I've been asked to give my Mom a hand with her laptop. It's a Lenovo IdeaPad Yoga 13, though the website seems to drop or parenthesize the IdeaPad part of that, running a 64 bit version of Windows 8.1

Two keys aren't working, the F12/increase screen brightness key and the PrintScreen key. (This is why we just discovered it, no idea when the error cropped up.) I've found workarounds for all of the things the keys do - brightness can be adjusted in Power Options, and the F12 and PrintScreen functions can both be duplicated using the on screen keyboard function. But they're kinda annoying and cumbersome, and the error may be symptomatic of a larger problem.

I've tried rebooting the computer and cleaning the keyboard thus far, to no avail (though it is using one of these stupid new chiclet keyboard styles, which makes popping off keys and cleaning the actually functional part of the keyboard impossible through the normal, convenient method I've used in the past.)

The keyboard was replaced relatively recently, and I will be getting in touch with the gentleman who handled that when his store is open tomorrow. I'll also be checking with the official tech support people at Lenovo, but I find this and other fora are usually much better at cutting through that ploddingly systematic approach that big tech support divisions use and finding the real problem in a reasonable timeframe. If either of these resources pays off, I'll post the solution here as well.

Answer:something's wrong with my keyboard/laptop

The first thing that pops to mind is water damage/a drop-but seeing as rebooting does momentarily solve the problem, it might well be a virus. Before we go into virus scanning, can you plug in a USB keyboard and see if the problem persists?Windows already has the drivers installed for keyboards and mice, so drivers shouldn't be the problem. Can you think of anything that might have caused this problem?

Hi!I was wondering if anyone could help me with this issue. My G580 is still inside the warranty and started showing this flickering lines and areas of the screen that are a complete mess. I am trying to request a service to get it fixed but I am asked for a machine type, model type, and serial number. I found the serial number but the form keeps complaining that it should be a maximum of 9 characters (and mine has 10). And for the machinge type and model type, I just can't find them. There's nothing on the sticker showing a model like it is shown in the help section. Can anyone help me please? Thank you!

Answer:G580 - Can't find machine type, model type, and SN seems to be wrong?

Hi afm, welcome to the forums,

have you had a look under the battery?  Quite often the sticker detailing the information will be there, it can also be found on the box if you still have it or on the first screen after entering BIOS.

Answer:keyboard keys not working on HP Pavilion g6 notebook laptop

What system update, windows update, a driver update? This is pretty vague.Could the update be coincidence and the keys are broken? If you boot to safe mode with command prompt try them then.Maybe the keys themselves are damages in which case you need a new or new old stock keyboard. That's what I would do, test the keys in a command prompt window and if they don't work there get a new keyboard.Do you have access to a usb keyboard to see if it's the keys or some weird OS thing?

Hello Sir,

I seem to be having a similar problem. Only the keys, Home, End, Right & Left direction keys arent responding. An external USB keyboard key is working. This led me to believe it could be a hardware issue (moisture etc.) however the new keyboard i order for my vostro 1014 (dell) laptop had the same issue, hence leading me to believe it is a software issue i.e. driver issue.

I have tried updating my driver it tells me its up to date. Have tried uninstalling it and on restart windows reinstalls my driver. I tried going on windows forum (Microsoft) and they were rambling about a possible Hotfix replacement. Please advise and let me know what do i do.

Answer:Inbuilt Laptop Keyboard , certain keys not working. Help Reqd.

Have you tried the Dell forum, laptop hardware section? That would be a good place since this is a Dell.

Answer:Compaq cq57 laptop keyboard keys not working

Hey @Sanjiv1?, Thank you for visiting the HP Forums! A great place where you can find solutions for your issues with help from the community!I came across your post about the Notebook, and wanted to assist you! I have looked into your issue about your Compaq Presario CQ57-200tu Notebook and keyboard keys not working correctly. You can resolve this issue by checking the keyboard language.  Please note remove any and all USB devices. Disconnect all non-essential devices, as these could cause some issues. Here is a link to uninstall the keyboard. Restart the computer after uninstalling, it should reinstall automatically. This has helped others. Here is a link to keyboard troubleshooting. I hope something here helps. Thanks.

I've had this strange problem since couple of weeks. Some days certain alphabet keys stop functioning properly, I have to hit it hard to get them to work while after a while of hard hitting keys, it starts functioning properly & I've seen this happening to Space Bar too. Currently, I've issue with Space Bar alone. I've to hard hit space bar or hit it multiple times to get it functioning.

At times I've noted the prob shifts to other some other key the next day or it doesn't have any prob at all. Its been all strange

I would like to know what might be the reason for this odd behavior ? Do u think laptop getting hot might be a reason for that or working for longer hours ? I've Laptop Cooler always on, never turn it off.

I'm using Dell Vostro 1015. Its more than 2yrs old now, never had to take it to any computer shop for repairs or maintenance so far. Never formatted or restored or reloaded OS either.

The only probs I'd so far are with mouse. I've changed 2 mouses already, I prefer using external mouse piece.

Hi goodlad,

You should try an external keyboard with the system. If external keyboard works fine then you should consider replacing the internal keyboard.

As due to usage and time keys stops responding. However if the similar issue occurs with the external keyboard then it might be a software related issue.

Please check the same and let us know if you require further a... Read more

Hello I've been looking here in Bucharest 2 months for a laptop lenovo Z510 and couldn't find. Can anyone assist me please? Thanks

Answer:Lenovo laptop keyboard " Ideapad " Type Z510

Hi OMARDAKAR ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

Using the part number for your keyboard on your search would allow you to find compatible and available keyboard in your location faster . You may use the parts lookup page to get it (just keep your serial number confidential) that would show your Machine model number and likewise FRU part number for your keyboard.

You can try it match it from the FRU keyboard part number list from the hardware manual (page100-103).

Update us with the Machine model number if needed .
Hope this help answer your query.

Regards
