Solved: fan terminals 1234

Question: Solved: fan terminals 1234

I have gleaned some info on computer fans, but would like to have a better understanding of them - as well as confirmation of what I believe to be correct. Thus far, I believe that most fans are 12 volt dc. red=12v+ & black=12v-. As I understand the third pin is a heat sensor (probably a thermistor reading to ground[12v-]). I have no idea what the fourth pin is for.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi guys this is my first request for help so I hope I format it correctly etc.

This problem has been ongoing for months now but has finally reached its peak. Essentially the symptoms are the computers on the network sometimes receive no internet at all, sometimes they receive a tiny amount compared to normal. I should be getting 8Mb but when I do an online speed test Iím only getting 150Kb/s (I know there not 100% accurate but Iíve clocked 6.5Mb on them before so I know something is up)

Here is my simple network setup:

1 Netgear DG834
2 Desktops both XP Pro SP3 Legit copies
3 Laptops, 1XP Pro SP3 and 2 Vista Legit copies
1 WiFi signal amplifier
1 Network Printer

For now my main concern is getting the desktops access sorted, i can worry about the laptops later.

When this has occurred previously I have rebooted the router and it seems to fix it (which is a pain since its in my attic) but its only temporary. Sometimes it goes weeks without problems then for days in a row it gives me agro. I have replaced the router with the exact model and used the settings from my previous router (which I didnít set up manually just copied the file between them via a desktop) and this helped for maybe 6-8 weeks I havenít been counting.

Now today its back to its old tricks and hopefully I can try to describe what i have tried and see if any of you guru's notice something I didnít.

Nothing can ping through the router if that makes sense. For example PC 1 cannot ping PC2 or vise ... Read more

Answer:Solved: Router not allowing terminals full access to Internet (challenging)

Just a little update

Last night the internet went completely find again at about 11:30 it was fine untill i went to bed at 1:00am and now when i go to use it now at 11am its completely slow again.

Also i have noticed that TX b/s and RX b/s are way down compared to yesterday, as far as i know these are up and download respectively.

Yesterday it was as follows:
TX b/s: 669
Rx b/s : 1405

Today it looks like this:
TX b/s: 536
Rx b/s : 9123

I have noticed something else, when i do a speed test it imediatly starts at about 800 then drops down to 150, is it possible i am being capped by my ISP? i havent recieved any letter stating so and its getting towards the end of the month, maybe i have used my quota although i dont think i have one. I have heard though ISP's can limit your speed if you download alot that month but not cut you off entirely so they can still advertise a 'no limit' policy...

My router seems to be recieveing connections fine, i can ping out from my router to google etc with 23ms returns so it seems the router is recieveing fine just not the devices it connection too, cant find anything like this anyware else but surely this is not a unique problem.

Dont know if this will help diagnosis but thought id post it.

Cheers,

Danny

Question: XP, two terminals

Okay, so here's my question.

I know you can have two comps going into one screen, one keyboard and one mouse.

I want the opposite.

I want to know if it's possible to have one comp, with two screens. Each screen has a keyboard and a mouse with a cursor on each screen running XP, but they are still the same comp. So say, when i'm doing something on one screen, I don't have to move the cursor to the second screen, i just move my hand to the second keyboard.

My computer will shut down while idle for awhile. It hasn't done it while I am working with it. But if I leave it for awhile , when I return, it has shut down. I have the door off and have been watching to see if it is a fan issue,  but I can't see it shut down so I do not know which fan it is, or both. Everything else is working fine on the computer and all of my programs.

Hi, I have the same/similar problem as dude 1234. Firefox using 100% CPUI didnt want to steal his post so I made my own.I have doing a bit of research on different things for browsers, this amongst them. (Well I dont know that its the browser actually).Every now and then my computer seems to just grind away, fans rev to their limit, windows wont open and the whole system drags for ages then to a total stop.It seems as though it is a memory problem, but having read that post, I wondered if it was my browser? I have a Pentium 4 CPU 3.00 Ghz 1.5GB of RAM. My computer doesnt always play up like that but it has its moments. The easiest way to get past it is to close everything and then restart F/F, this does cure it but is really inconvenient if I have lots of windows open. Can I do anything to cure this phenomenon please?

Answer:Same as dude 1234 CPU Grinding away at 100%?

Well your computer is better than mine and, anyway, I have investigated and determined its not a processor or memory problem. Try using Opera browser and see if you think that eliminated the problem. I'd be interested to know."Browser" is the name of the software you use to download and display web material. Examples of browsers are:- Firefox, Internet Explorer, Opera, Chrome. In case you are not familiar with the term "software", it means a computer program. Computers have hardware (all the electronic bits), and software (all the instructions that are given to the hardware to make it do something useful). My apologies if I have over-simplified this, but it sounded like you needed to know.

I have had windows 10 installed for several months with no issue. two days ago, at start up the computer goes to the blue screen, says it is collecting info and restarts, does it a second time and restarts then letting me get to the advanced tools. Scrubbed the web for suggestions and am currently running on the native display adapter after removing AMD display adapter and catalyst.

at the blue screen it states it is a video TDR failure and atikmpag.sys

cleaned all dust, checked for loose connections, installed latest drivers, tried the legacy beta driver, cannot roll back to an old version.

Other interesting notes: since dumping the drivers I cannot use google chrome and my external speakers do not work (but headphones do). Will also only display on an old dell monitor, will not go to HDMI monitor.

Am not super computer literate and lost for what to do next. Thanks!

Question: Dummy Terminals

Some time back i had seen advertisements in a technology magazine about a device that could be used to share a single computer as two different ones. It was a software-hardware combo that worked from the USB port(not ethernet) and it was used to add terminals to an existing windows box. so basically u just needed to plugin their box to ur USB and then....plug in upto 5 sets of monitors and keyboards and mice....to make 5 terminals.....
can anyone here explain to me how these work?
I have been trying to look on the net but i have no idea what to call such a setup- this is not a conventional dummy terminal-not a diskless workstation. what do u call this thing? i wanna know coz i'm interested in making something like this.

Answer:Dummy Terminals

Yes...I have setup something like this for a client in the past...ayeee it was quite some time ago I was trying to remember the name of the little boxes that were used to connect back to the main computer via a remote desktop session....let me sleep on it it may come to me after more beer.

Question: Dumb Terminals

At my work we have a unix server, running collection software. Everyone acceses it using a telnet session. Everyone has fairly decent PC's running XP but I don't see the need since all they are doing is using telnet. I'm looking for information on dumb terminals, and a reccommendation on which ones to get. I'm not 100% on how they work but it's my understanding that it's as simple as plugging a ethernet cable into the switch, and doing some configuring correct?

Thanks in advance.

Well, thin clients would be satisfactory for the purpose you are considering them for, but they're not downright stupid simple to configure as it may seem.

First, it'd just be a thin box- video(onboard), mobo, ram, processor, nic(onboard) set to network boot. Either build them or buy them. Then you have to setup a server (either bootp or dhcp) for it to get its ip, default gateway, servers, and the OE. Then decide what operating environment you want to run on the machines. Popular environments but not all: XP Embedded, Embedded Linux, CE.Net.

Check out:

http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/d.../html/pbconwindowsthinclientconfiguration.asp
for more information on the MS thin client configs.

Config Linux thin clients to a linux server
http://www.ltsp.org/ - Linux Terminal Server Project

And here's a digit-life.com article on thin clients
http://www.digit-life.com/articles2/ak-winterm-gp/

While thin clients seem easy to install on paper, there is almost as much work with thin clients as installing workstation infrastructure as far as configuration and deployment. The main reason for deploying thin clients is they are inexpensive as far as repairs, there is nothing on the box to exploit as there is no way to save anything to the lo... Read more

One of my terminals where I work became infected... or finally started to show that it was. Since I am the only one in the office under 40 they call me "the IT guy"... lucky me

Whatever the files were are re-directing Firefox to a site that wants you to buy and install a "windows defender" looking program... First it opens with the security page telling you the site may not be secure and then re-directs, looks good too.

When the window closes because "of an unexpected error" it has a submit information box to fill in e-mail etc that also looks like it is Firefox generated... but looking closely you can see it is a fake.

I ran CCleaner, SUPERAnti Spyware, Spybot Search & destroy, Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, Combo Fix and MG Tools and followed the instructions in the thread located HERE

I have a p7-1234 HP desktop with windows 7 and a HPLV2311 monitor.  Recently the computer started shutting down on its on for no reason after even short pauses.  I have changed the windows settings for power saving etc. to "never shut off" or whatever but the screen will go into a sleep mode at most any time and the computer follow suit repeatedly. The computer will not stay on long enough to run a "deep" virus scan with MSFT security essentials program. I have seen others with this problem.  I had my power source checked at a shop about a month ago and it is ok.

Hi All,

At my work we operate a fleet of touch screen POS terminals. Recently I purchased a number of HP RP2 Model 2000 POS terminals which feature a 14" screen. However I have received feedback that staff are finding the screens too small for touch alone usage (e.g.: they are needing to use a keyboard & mouse as well as the screen in order to perform their work).

After performing some searching I have been able to find a number of 15" POS terminals, however I would like to find something significantly larger, such as a 19"+.

Has anybody got any suggestions on good quality, larger screen POS terminals, which feature Windows 7 Professional?

Kind Regards,

Davo

Answer:Large screen POS terminals?

This is really odd... I've been working with tills and POS terminals for the past 4 years on a day to day basis. Most of mine are 12" - 15" and we've never had any trouble.

I guess it comes down to the the software you use, and the resolution you've got the OS set to. Most EPOS software allows some customisation, I would look into this before investing in some new hardware.

If you did definitely want larger screens then you would probably have to start looking at touch screen PCs rather than a dedicated till units.

Hope this is helpful

Had this issue earlier

XP home is on the server

XP pro is on the terminals (restaurant registers)

1; Can see, map, RDT to terminal (192.168.4.10)
2; Terminal can ARP /a and see server;

CANNOT ping, connect, etc server.

I later noticed that when I try to enter the Windows directory from server to terminal, access denied.

I get prompted for the GUEST password.. guest had no password on the terminal, or server.

I even tried giving guest a password on terminal. Still wouldn't take it.

Both computers logged in with the exact same administrator password. I recreated them, made brand new ones, even unshared/reshared drives.

I deleted all previous mappings, and had it "map using username" administrator.

All subnets the same.

Like I said, you can ARP /a and see the terminal sitting there. You can also ARP /a from the terminal and SEE the server. But you cant ping/map/anything FROM terminal to server.

This sounds like the common XP home networking issue.. But I wanted to get more advice before I tell the customer to throw on Pro/2k and call me back.

It's connecting through a 3com managed switch. I'm not allowed to modify this, it's not our equipment. I had the customer take system off of this and run it directly through a small dumb hub, same issues.

Thanks!

edit: also made sure all Sp2 firewalls are off.

Answer:Xp home server, Xp pro terminals

First suggestion...do not use XP home for a server...at minimal use XP Pro or get Server 2000/3

You can only setup shares in XP Home that are "Guest" shares....you can not auth as other users for the shares. That is your problem.

Hey everyone,

Does anyone here administer machines via a serial cable? I am now, and first let me say it's really slick. With the right config, you can choose which kernel you want to boot, and see everything as the machine initializes everything, all via a serial cable. With a separate remote reboot feature, I can now install a new kernel and not worry about being left with an unbootable machine. If the network fails I can still login in via serial. Only if the disk crashes or I reformat would it not be possible to recover.

Anyway, my question is: I'm using minicom over a serial cable. The terminal emulation offered is rather lame, and I have some trouble with it. For example, emacs constantly screws up the width and height. Can anyone recommend any other serial terminal software?

Ok, here's my situation. Please go easy on this newb.

My company puts on classes and we want to have a computer for each seat. I don't want to purchase 24 separate computers and would like to use a technology that I haven't used before so that I can learn and ultimately impress my boss. I don't want to deal with a major cable mess as well. How would I go about doing this? I guess what I envision is at each seat be a mouse, keyboard and monitor connecting to a virtual desktop. Or is what I am thinking of more like a Citrix environment with terminals.

I don't even feel like I am using the correct terminology...

P.S. When I use to work at Balley's Total Fitness, they had a set up like this before. I believe it was a Citrix environment. Keyboard, mouse, monitor connected to cables that came from the wall. I can't remember seeing anything else. This is why I have this vision of what I want, but don't know how to build it from page 1.

Thanks.

Answer:Desktop Vitualization? Citrix? Terminals?

Hi,
My girlfriend's Advent 7109 has packed up. I can't charge it because the solder on the motherboard seems to have melted and so it's short circuiting. I'm planning on sourcing a relevantly sized transformer (battery is 11.1v), and connecting it to the terminals where the battery would have gone with receptile crimps. But there are 5 live terminals. I don't want to connect it to the wrong one and destroy the laptop. Has anyone any idea which terminal(s) I can connect it to?

Thanks.

Scareware Haunts Airport Internet Terminals

Symantec is warning people about picking up anything nasty / virus ridden at the airport?oh yeah and there is also scareware on the internet terminals too.

Many airports have public Internet terminals for passengers without their own laptops to check email or browse the Web. In a large airport in England, we noticed one terminal with an usual "Defense Center Installer" dialog box. "Defense Center Installer" is a fake anti-virus software, also known as "scareware".

I have a laptop and this started happening 3 days ago. My pc will randomly show a terminal for less than a second. It's not a problem until I watch a movie or play a game. My pc will randomly minimize the game or the movie window and the terminal will pop up for less than a second, then it goes to normal again. What might this be?

Answer:Weird problem with pc, random terminals open.

Just today, a P4, 1.8-GHz processor fell into my lap. I bought a DFI NB70-SC board and I get no post, no beeps and no video. The main board's LEDs do light up and the fans do come on. The 300-watt power supply is known-good.

There are some extra power connectors nearer the center of the board. On one, the pins look like the ones on a standard ATX connector except there are only four pins in a square arrangement. The other power connector (right against it) is a six-pin that looks like the power connectors on the old AT boards.

What are these connectors? Do I need a special power supply to run this board? My present ATX power supply does not have these terminals on it.

Answer:Explain Multiple Extra Terminals on P4 Board

Hi Alex,
Found this which would explain the four pin arrangement you metioned;

I have looked on this forum and found that several other people have had similar issues getting their HP Pavillion h8-1234 to boot up after putting in their GEFORCE GTX 950 graphics card. I am having the same exact issue. I understand that many have said that updating BIOS is the way to solve that issue but the HP website does not have any drivers for me to install. I've gone through all of the recommended channels but there is no driver updates. Here is the link to where I've been told to search: http://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/hp-pavilion-hpe-h8-1200-desktop-pc-series/5187019/mo... but there is nothing there. Maybe the BIOS is not the issue and someone can recommend another way to solve the problem? Thank you all in advance.

This is a plea for help, as our users are beginning to turn on us...

I work as an intern at a school that uses LTSP terminals throughout a district. Theres 3 schools, a school office, and a town office on the network, connected with fiber. About a month ago we started getting calls that terminals were slow or "freezing". These are all "fat client" terminals so applications run locally, but the user's files are stored on the home server. When we managed to log into a terminal before it completely froze, we would see errors in the syslog indicating that it could not find /home. /home lives on a rather old RHEL NFS server in the high school. Each building has its own LTSP server.

The "freezing" seems to be happening at each site, so its either a problem with the NFS server, a problem with the connection to the NFS server, or a configuration problem that was propagated to all the LTSP servers. It doesn't seem to affect all users in a room or building (we're not sure about per-switch, since we can't get detailed user feedback on that)

We have Observium set up to monitor all the managed switches and all the servers. We're not seeing anything odd with CPU or network load. Load averages for all the servers are below 0.20, and network use hovers around 35MB/s. The NFS server is seeing about 95% of its ram being "cached", which seems odd to me, but I was under the impression that "cached" RAM is not the same ... Read more

Hi,

A few days ago, I ran a scan on Antivir and it turns out I have these viruses.
tr/atraps.gen2 - consrv.dll
tr/agent.1234 - 271c0b7f-12361f5c
f-exp-cve-2011-3544.a.49cbfc 15038ef4-4e959546

I suspect I got them because I had another computer infected, and then it got transferred through a hard drive. So now I'm dealing with a computer which may or may not be disinfected, a likely infected external hard drive, and another virus on another computer.

I'd really appreciate the help in how to get rid of this virus on this computer and also on the external hard drive.

Thanks.

Favorite Passwords: "1234" and "Password"

A statistical analysis of 28,000 stolen passwords showed that many people are inept when it comes to choosing a password. If your password is something as lame as 1234 (or anything else that easy), you?ll get no sympathy from anyone when you get hacked.

It found that 16 percent took a first name as a password, often their own or one of their children, according to the study published by Information Week. Another 14 percent relied on the easiest keyboard combinations to remember such as "1234" or "12345678." For those using English keyboards, "QWERTY", was popular.

Answer:Favorite Passwords: "1234" and "Password"

Its kind of silly for that to be a password though, but I know a person or two who think password is such an easy password that nobody would guess it...

I use password for an e-mail account that I just use for signing up for stuff like newsletters, game sites and stuff haha

When you go into Printers and Faxes on the "host" computer, the printer has a hand under it, indicating shared, right?

In Printers and Faxes on the other two computers, does the printer have a pipe under it, indicating a network printer?

What error message do you get when you try to print? If no error message, does the print job go into a queue on that computer?

They have another portal to where you go through it and it takes you to merchant websites, if you go in that way and make a purchase, you get more points. I can log in to a couple but many of the webpages are not available. Hello everyone,

I realize that it is next to near impossible to have a total guide to the registry for all OS, but I was wondering if there was an on-line resource that had fixes/tweaks for the registry (can't find CD-ROM, IE toolbar customize). If there is something out there that covers the whole registry, and what all the keys, classes, values,..it would be cool, but for now, I'm looking for something that I can use as a guide that would show me a healthy registry, so I can make a fix and compare a healthy registry to an unhealthy one.

Thanks

Hi,

The one speaker works and has sound, but the other doesn't, so far, I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers for the speakers, and have also checked the settings in the control panel, and they seem fine. What is wrong that the 1 speaker works but not the other?

This is a fairly new speaker.

Ever since I logged on this afternoon I have been unable to use IE or Avant Browser. Most sites will load, but only after several minutes--a few time out entirely. I've been using Firefox to get around with no such problems. I've run Spybot and AdAware, a full Norton virus scan was run just before I shut down last night. I attempted an IE repair with no improvement.

I am running a new Western Digital 80 gig drive installed 10 days ago with a new install of Window XP. My system specs are:

Windows XP Home SP2 and all updates
Avant 10 166, using avant.exe
IE 6 with all updates
HP Pavilion AMD Athlon(tm)XP 1800+ 1.53 GHz
ZoneAlarm, Norton Systemworks Pro 2004
AdMuncher

I ran HiJack this and these are the results:

Hi, first of all, I'm not a tech whiz so please bear with me. My home network consists of a SpeedTouch ST536 ADSL modem, and a Cisco WRT54G2 wireless router. I have a desktop under a wired connection, and a notebook in another room that connects wirelessly. Both of them use windows 7.

Almost daily, the wireless connection disconnects after some time of usage and stays that way. From what I can tell, it seems to occur randomly. My desktop however remains connected, so it's not the entire internet is down. Through some tinkering, I discovered that I could get the notebook to reconnect by either enabling or disabling my SSID broadcast (depending on which setting it was in the first place).

I do think it's related to my desktop though. This problem occurs ONLY when both desktop and notebook are on. If I'm only using my notebook there won't be any disruptions.

Anyone has any idea what's going on? Could someone be hijacking my network? Any help will be appreciated, thanks!

(Btw, I used to use a 2Wire unit which was a modem and router, and did not encounter such problems before.)

PROBLEM:
Being a technician, I always have my Lenovo laptop running Windows 7 Professional x64, working perfectly and smoothly.
One perfect day I installed Apple iTunes, rebooted my laptop and then I discovered that many services had stopped working:

fingerprint logon failed (so I switched to entering password);
very slow startup (up to 1 minute delay comparing with the time it normally consumes);
NO Internet access at all: nor wireless neither wired;

Ok, it's a bit hard to explain this problem but I'll try anyway... I have a Thinkpad T410 (Core i5 520M, 4GB RAM, Intel GMA HD, 250GB HDD (5400rpm?) Win 7 Professional 32bit). For some reason there are strange "lag spikes" which occur once in a while. The system stops responding to mouse and keyboard and programs hang for a very short time, about 2 seconds at max (sounds seem not to be affected though). It can happen in any situation, text processing, net browsing, picture editing, games etc. Power management settings don't have much effect on this problem, at least it still occurs on maximum performance mode. Does anyone have any idea what could cause this? Is it one of those Lenovo programs or maybe a buggy driver? I've tried to search for resource-hungry processes using Process Explorer but I haven't found anything distinct. It seems that sometimes the CPU usage drops when a "spike" occurs but I'm not entirely sure about this. Sometimes it happens when playing  a game and there should be a sound effect; as if it would take some time to load the sound file or something. I've done some malware scans and it seems that there isn't any viruses which could cause this.

Hey all,

Just trying to save some time for anyone that runs into this error.

If you are using Outlook 2003 and using Word as your text editor, you may get one of the following messages when sending an email:

Interface not registered
Unspecified Error

To fix this, in the run box type (without quotes):
"Regsvr32.exe %Windir%\System32\Ole32.dll"

I just had this happen to two different machines within a week so I am expecting more

Soo the solution is simple, no need for regedit, or a system factory reset or anything.

All you need to do is install the bluetooth driver . I'm not even kidding.
Link is here BT-stack-64bit-toshiba.zip ( ACPI\TOS6205 driver )

I'm posting this because I stumbled across this solution quite randomly and I can guess that I'm not the only one who got pissed because the wireless lan wasnt working on my laptop without any apparant reasons.
Hope this helps.

Cheers.

As title above specifies, my internet connection varies from a low of about 50kbs to a high of about 5mbs.

I am connected via a wireless connection using a D-Link DI 524 router and a Netgear WG311 v2 802.11g Wireless PCI Adapter. Connection speed between the router and my computer displays on the connection status window as either 48mbs or 54mbs.However when the internet connection is slow, I have to wait minutes to connect to my router. Likewise, many times my email either fails to connect or times out during logon or during mail transfer. Internet pages either fail to find the URL (like Google or Yahoo) or "The connection to the server was reset while the page was loading" or just hangs partially loaded.

There is one other computer on the network connected exactly as I am and it does not slow down as severely as does mine. The download speed varies on it from about 2.3mbs to 5.5mbs.I use Speakeasy.net/speedtest and test from the Washington, DC server. It matters not whether one or both computers are simultaneously connected to the internet. I have made measurements at the same time from both computers and I get the above stated results.

I have run AVG virus check, Spybot, and Adaware. I have no viruses, and the only thing Adaware finds are a couple of cookies and I remove them but the problem persists. I have tried several different changes to my system including cleaning out my temporary files and recycle bin and then defragmenting, altering the MTU (c... Read more

Hello,

I'm having similar problems as with an earlier post by Azus, but unfortunately I couldn't resolve my issue by reading that post. I think that our issues are different enough that I may need to post my HJT log to resolve the problem.

I was googling something when all of this started. It happened so fast that I couldn't do anything before I got a blue screen. I know I was bombarded with something that may have given me a virus or some other problem. Hopefully you can help me with this dilema. Currently I can log on to Windows, but I get unwanted and uncontrolable popups, and eventually Windows shutsdown on me. Also, I use Skype to talk to my brother, but after all of this happened I can't launch Skype at all (even after reinstalling it).

Also, my other brother tried to fix some things but I really don't know what he did, or if it actually fixed anything. I hope he didn't "fix" it beyond repair...

Here is my HJT log in Normal Mode. If you need it from Safe Mode, I can do that too. I do appreciate any help that you can provide.

Hello, I discovered this forum when searching for a way to create a search macro to copy rows of data based on values in certain columns. The post resolved by bomb#21 has given me code that does 90% of what I need:
http://forums.techguy.org/business-applications/559825-solved-excel-search-macro-needed.html
Sub Search()
Range("E11").CurrentRegion.ClearContents: Range("E11") = "Results"
FindWhat = UCase(Range("E5"))
For Each Cell In Range("B2", Range("B" & Rows.Count).End(xlUp))
If InStr(Cell, FindWhat) <> 0 Then
Cell.Offset(, -1).Resize(, 3).Copy Range("E" & Rows.Count).End(xlUp).Offset(1, 0)
End If
Next Cell
End Sub

As an absolute newbie to macros (I've been using them for 3 days, and it took me an hour to figure out why I was getting errors when changing from column B to column A in the above code - for any other newbies it is the Cell.Offset (, -1) part of the code), I was wondering if it is possible to have this code in a Sheet2, to return data from Sheet1 (I had assumed it would be as easy as changing the code to <For Each Cell In Range("Sheet1!B2", Range("Sheet1B" & Rows.Count).End(xlUp))>) and whether it would be possible to have a search popup box instead of just entering text into a cell (E5 in the above code).

Apologies, I know that this is probably a very basic question, that I could learn with some excel training. Unfortunately this is a smalli... Read more

Hi Everyone,

Sorry about starting 2 threads that had similar issues and causing any possible confusion.

Firstly, I want THANK EVERYONE that posted and helped me out. I managed to solve the problem and thought I'd give everyone an update.

The issue with the Symantec NAV9 Corporate Edition was finally resolved. It appears that the SP2 component of Windows XP was the culprit causing an unsuccessful reinstall, as there was an incompatibility problem.

I completely uninstalled everything Symantec and Norton, reinstalled WinXP (without SP2) while unconnected to the network, then reinstalled Symantec NAV9. After reconnecting to the network, I updated both WinXP and Symantec.

On both PC's, the liveupdate was still inoperable and one of the PC's had the additional problem of Auto Protect permanently on "Disabled" mode.

I proceeded to repair all the Symantec Files, this restored one PC's LiveUpdate and Auto Protect immediately; on the other PC, the repairs didn't work, so I went to Symantec and downloaded an updated version of LiveUpdate, patched it and the problem was resolved immediately.

Now both PC's are up and runnning at full health.

My grateful thanks to everyone for their kindness in assisting me and their patience towards a true newbie.

Cheers!

I want to share how I solved these problems to give back to the many posters I read here who helped me.

First, the sleep problem. The second day after I installed Windows 7, the computer went to hybrid sleep (s3) overnight. When I moved the mouse the case light came on, the fans roared to life and ----- nothing! Black screen. A plain old hibernation worked fine, but a plain old s3 sleep did not (s1 did work). After reading and trying many good ideas presented here, but with no change in results, I gave it my last idea. I unplugged the P/S from the mains, I opened the case, and I firmly pressed on the graphics card and the graphics card power connectors to make sure it was all properly seated. You guessed it. I've had not one problem with sleep since. I'm using my board's default settings (auto) with ACPI and ACPI 2.0 (enabled), for anyone who is wondering. I'm guessing that at some point in the first day I slightly dislodged the graphics card. It is strange that the computer booted and otherwise behaved normally, but it did.

On to the boot hang . There was a 120 second boot delay on some reboots. The delay only occurred after the computer was powered up and in Windows 7 for more than approx 30 minutes. It hung right at "Windows Starting" and precisely 120 seconds later the first firefly would appear and continue with a normal Windows 7 boot. First I determined from the boot log that the boot only really started when the firefly appeared and that ev... Read more

I continue to follow the directions and go the the DCOM Configuration to find the program:

The program DOES NOT exist in the DCOM Window. So I am stuck at step 6 on the help window. The culprit is located here in my program folder:

C:\Program Files\NVIDIA Corporation\NetworkAccessManager\bin

The program name is: nSvcAppFlt Application 168KB

Can you plese help me resolve/correct this?

Thank you.

Answer:Solved: Solved: Continuous DCOM Error in Event Viewer

It's part of the NVIDA Firewall on ASUS MB. Be nice if it was named NVIDIA Network Access Manager or NVIDIA Firewall.

I don't have an ASUS, or that CLSID on my system, but did some googling and I found this http://forums.nvidia.com/index.php?showtopic=23134 that says the Name is app_filter that you need to edit.

It says the CLSID won't match the AppID, but I'd check and see if it's listed:
In the component services window, widen it out, then click on View and choose Detail. This should list the Application ID column.
Search for {BC866CF2-5486-41F7-B46B-9AA49CF3EBB1} (double check that, I typed it by hand).

In the Registry Editor, check the {BC866CF2-5486-41F7-B46B-9AA49CF3EBB1} key for an AppID value and look for that in component services. Also you could check the ProgID key (and the others as well) to see if you can spot the name there.

Sony-Vaio Desktop Computer. Windows XP Home, SP2, IE 7 and Firefox 2.0.06, no viruses or spyware, HijackThis logs and Ad-Aware logs clean. Two hard disks, C and D. C is the one on which all the files are, D is empty (what is it good for, by the way?). C has an overall capacity of 27.95 GB of which 12.9 is occupied. Now, I have noticed (for two or three months, I never bothered looking before) that I am losing .01 GB of disk space PER DAY. Thus, day before yesterday, I had 15.05 GB of remaining free space, yesterday 15.04 GB and today it is 15.03.
C has never been reformatted before or undergone major "surgery". No new programs or large files have been installed or stored for ages, and automatic updates include Ad-Aware SE Personal (once a week), Windows Update (once a month) and Norton AntiVirus (once a week, only virus definitions), plus sporadic updates for Adobe Acrobat Reader, Flash etc.
The computer is turning a ripe four years old next month.
I use Disk Cleanup and Defragmenter to clean up stuff, empty my browser caches, histories and cookies after EVERY session, and delete old files when I don't need them.
So...what is behind the "theft" of my hard disk space? Thank you in advance for your time and answers.

I recently purchased The Harold Lloyd Comedy Collection DVD box-set. So far I have been unable to access the bonus DVD-ROM which has a number of online features, including a good many 3-D photographs (glasses included).

I did download and open the InterActual software which is needed to view the DVD-ROM. I'm sure i'm not the only one who's had these problems. Every time I try to connect Calculator to Computer via TI-Connect, I end up getting some obscure TI error, such as 'Access is Denied' or 'The System Can't Find the File Specified'. Recently, however, I solved the problem, and learned some things about TI-Connect in the process.
Ti-Connect is incredibly stupid. It will not allow you to transfer files to your calculator unless you are running the latest operating system on your calculator. For me, as soon as I upgraded to 2.55 mp for TI-84+, everything worked perfectly.
The reason that when you reboot w/o internet connection and it works fine is that TI-Connect always connects to the internet upon boot-up to check if you are running the latest OS. Don't ask me why. It's either a blindingly stupid bug, or a stupendously short-sighted feature.

Was having trouble using the "print to file" function using the XPS writer in Windows 7 to print an online statement.
It would ask for the Output File name..eventually figured out that it requires the path to an actual file located on my laptop e.g. "C:\Users\Public\Documents\document.xps".
So create the file first ,then copy the address into the Output file name box....it worked for me.

Next problem is to convert XPS to PDF....sigh!

I just went to my Google Calendar a few minutes ago, only to discover that all of my entries have disappeared! Is it somehow possible to get them back? I did a System Restore, although I figured that wouldn't work -- and it didn't.

Earlier this evening I ran CCleaner and I wonder if somehow that would've inadvertently erased my calendar entries. I've run it in the past and never had this problem. (I also ran SpySweeper, SpywareBlaster, AdAware, and my AV program, although I don't believe they would have caused this problem.)

I've lost several months worth of entries that I really would like to get back! I hope that someone will be able to tell me how. Thank you.

Hello People

Whenever I play a .mov file in Quicktime, no matter what movie it is, it always shows a woman dancing in front of a webcam then opens Adult Friend Finder on the net. It's really annoying and it's causing my computer and internet to run a bit slower than usual. I've tried Adaware SE, Spybot, Hijackthis and Spydoctor and I don't know where the virus is, can anyone help please?

Many Thanks

I am experiencing problems with file sharing using Windows XP. Specifically, I get an access denied message when trying to access another machine's user folders under "documents and settings" across the network. I can only successfully access the user folder of the user currently logged in on the machine I am trying to access across the network. I have given full details below.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I have just set up a home network consisting of a desktop (running XP Home) and a laptop (also running XP Home). The desktop goes into the combined router/modem via an ethernet cable and the laptop is wireless.

This network seems correctly set up. On both machines, when I go to network places and then view my workgroup computers, I can see the other machine. I can double-click the other machine and browse some folders/files that I shared. I have turned off all firewalls to make sure that I could do this.

The problem I am having involves accessing/sharing the different user folders that live under "Documents and Settings". On each machine, I have shared these folders on the network by selecting "Share this folder on the network" and "Allow network users to change my files". I am also prompted to specify a Share Name - which I have done.

On each machine, I can access the network and navigate to the user folders I have shared. Howe... Read more
