Canon i950 stops when colour ink runs out I only want to print black & white docs HLP

Question: Canon i950 stops when colour ink runs out I only want to print black & white docs HLP

Hi

can anyone give me some advice please?

I’ve got a problem with my printer as soon as it runs out of one colour it will not print anymore, this is fine however all I want to do these days is print black ink only, im not interested in colour printing or photo printing.

Initially I bought the printer for photos colour etc and I do like the printer and it prints good quality documents and quite fast, but I only need black and white for 99% of my needs.

Its there a way to configure it to use the black cartridge only and to ignore the other cartridges?

I have changed the setting in the printer software to print greyscale only but, it’s still the same, as soon as one colour goes the printer fails to print and tells me to change colour cartridges.

I would be happy if the only cartridge I ever have to change is the black one.

Im working with Vista.

Ive searched the net to try and find a solution but getting nowhere, Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Preferred Solution: Canon i950 stops when colour ink runs out I only want to print black & white docs HLP

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

My default printer is colour, but the default preferences set it to black and white.  I've changed the default to colour on my Win7 Professional 64 bit PC, things print in colour from Word, Outlook, Adobe etc.  When I open photos in Photo Viewer,
they look fine until you go to print, the print preview is b&w and the print comes out b&w.  If you look at the print prefs through Photo Viewer, it says b&w, even though if you go through Devices and Printers it says colour.
I'm in a corporate environment, this printer is hosted on a print server.  All laptops are seeing this problem, running FixIt is not an option.
Any ideas?
Thanks.

Answer:Photo Viewer prints black and white, print preferences are colour

Please remove the printer from Devices and Printers . Then follow the steps below to install the printer again.

The computer was on standby and the printer had power on when the power cut occured.I have gone through the maintenance proceedures of cleaning printheads etc, and re-installed the drivers, but to no availIchecked the ink tanks, they're OK BUT Black ink was present where the tanks fit to the printheads. I cleaned the black ink from each tank and also cleaned where they make contact with the printheads. Still no printing.Help and advice needed Please.Moochy

I have a client with a tricked out Dell xps Studio (6GB memory) who is suffering with very long times to print. Even sending a printer test page from within windows (Vista home premium 64) takes about 30 seconds before the sent notice appears on the screen. The printer is a Epson Stylus Photo1900 (large format printer). No other programs running but background stuff kept to a minimum. I have tried shutting down the spooler and printing direct, but it is slow as well.

I loaded and ran Process Explorer from Sysinternals and the only thing out of the ordinary is the constant opening, running and ending of dllhost.exe. This occurs every few seconds and lasts only for a few seconds.

I know there are discussions in posts elsewhere in the forums of the possible impostor DLLHOST.EXE, and when I left the client's I had set MS Security Essentials to run a full scan to see if it would find anything, but I have not yet been to see the results.

Does anyone else have any ideas on this?

My canon printer MP210 suddenly stopped printing colour today. I had set up another monitor to work with my lap top and I had fiddled with colour settings so don't know if either of those made a difference. I've 'fiddled' back with colour settings and tried the laptop alone again but the printer still doesn't print colour.

Any suggestions please ?

Thanks, Daf

Answer:Canon printer won't print colour

Hello,
will need more detail to make an assessment. What happens when you try to print color? Do you only get black ink on the page? Did you remember to remove the tape sealing the cartridge as the directions on the color cartridge indicated? Do you hear any strange sound or get any messages? Does your computer's printer driver/interface indicate you have color ink? The possibilities are many so please zap me back a reply and I will do my best to help.

Waiting for your reply!!
Regards
Kate

Question: Canon i950

I have a canon i950 printer that died on me other other day (fun fun during finals week for school).

When I try to turn it on it does nothing. When I unplug the power cord FROM the printer and leave if for 10 minutes then replug it it, I can get the printer to power on, blink its green light like crazy and then turn itself off.

Is there any hope of this this printer get to visit the green trash can in the sky?

Have a new Vista 64 Home Premium machine. Have a Canon i950 printer on my XP machine. Canon does not have a Vista driver for the printer. In these forums, found a post explaining there is a "driver add-on" that makes the i950 driver work in Vista.

Obtained the add-on. It requires that the "base driver" be installed (B3319MUX.EXE). When I run the driver's setup program, get "The Printer Driver Has Not Been Installed" message at the 60% completion point. Have tried the install in compatability mode and "run as administator" (Both XP and 2000), but get the same message. I am also logged in to an Administrator account.

Does anyone know of a way to get the base driver installed on Vista 64? Thank you.

From the user manual it states that the problem is the print head. I was wondering if there is any solution to this problem besides replacing the print head. Thank you.

Chances are that the printer is also using the colour cartridge to create Black. Either remove or disable the colour cartridge when printing B&W prints.

Hello,
this is my first post and I hope I am posting in the correct area.

I have been looking for an answer to this and am still stuck after a couple of days.

I have pc with windows 7 home premium 64 bit and an LG flatron E1940S monitor, I am just moving on to this pc and intend to use photoshop on it.
The problem is that moving my images from my xp system, the colours are not right. Black and white shows as sepia as an example, and there seems to be a brownishness to everything.

I have tried adjusting the monitor.
I have looked at the colour management in windows and set to srgb.
I have tried windows calibration and there was a slight difference but not a good enough correction to replace the original settings.
i have installed the updates for the nvidia.

Any help appreciated please?

The monitor did not come as a bundle but was purchased with the pc and I just had to plug it in, I don't know if I need (nor where they are to be found) a driver/colour profile for that.

thanks for any help
Lisa

Answer:colour management black and white is sepia

Are you using a VGA cable? It might have a loose connection ...

Try resetting your monitor to factory settings. Check if the "temperature setting" is around 6500K, this is supposed to be the correct one (this should be set in NVidia Control Panel).

Hope this helps!

Hi,

It works perfectly except the TV.
When I launch the Tv set, the first channel is in white and black.
If I change the channel, the next ones are in colours.
The drivers are ok;

Have you an idea to fix this problem ?

Thanks a lot;

Answer:Qosmio G20-109: First tv channel in white and black, then in colour

Hi Chris

Your problem is one country specific problem. It is not easy to say what the problem can be. The only thing that I can suggest you is Manual Channel Programming. Maybe you will able on this way to find a exact frequency of this channel.

Hi,

I purchased the Canon MP800 about 3-4 years ago and didn't have any problems. Recently the printer started acting up and is giving me trouble.

1. The printer only prints about half an inch of the image and then spits out the paper. Sometimes it justs stops, other times it spits out the paper and tries to print on a new paper.
2. I'm getting the 'Printer does not respond' (NOTE! Not sure if that's what the error says in English as the printer/print dialog box is in Dutch).
3. It prints really, really slow. It's not what it used to be.

I'm not sure if this is causing it but I purchased 3 ink cartidges from another manufacturer. I tried un(and re)installing the driver but that didn't work. I tried dis(and re)connecting the USB cable but that also didn;t work. I tried rebooting so there weren't many programs running but again, that didn't work. Could someone please help?

Answer:Canon MP800 doesn't print, or stops after a few seconds.

If you post what it says in Dutch i will tell you what it says in english

Just fill in your OS and language (dutch) then serch and you should find the latest drivers.

Hi,

I was just wondering if the web camera on the Satellite C660/C660D is colour or black and white?
If its colour, how do I change it to colour?

Thanks.

Answer:Satellite C660/C660D - Webcam colour or black and white?

Hi

Of course it?s color cam.
It?s a common webcam? Do you have just black/white webcam picture?
In your case I recommend checking the webcam software options.
Start the Camera Assistant software and in the Properties you could find the option called ?Backlight Compensation?. Check this option.
Furthermore in the ?Image? tab you will find some controls like: brightness, gamma, hue, saturation and sharpness. Play around with these settings.

I have a new mg5250 printer. I printed a black and white document from my computer - a LibreOffice file. I couldn't find out from the canon printer menu whether I could specify just using the black ink. There was a tab on the printer menu for LibreOffice and in that there was a box for black only printing but I don't know whether the printer read it. The LCD screen on the machine had the icons for all the inks as it was printing and it was not possible to just press the black only button as neither that nor the colour button were lit up.
1. Is there somewhere on the computer printer screen that gives you the choice?
2. Can you use the buttons etc on the machine to specify how you want the document printed without using the computer screen?

I have a Brother DCP-115C printer with blurry print when using black ink but not when using coloured ink. Somehow the text on the test print document comes out ok in black, and the alignment test print looks correct too. When I print from Microsoft Word, (or notepad), it comes out blurry.

This is a problem that has just started happening after the printer has been working fine for a good six months. I've replaced the black ink cartridge with a new Brother branded cartridge to see if that made any difference but it didn't. I've been through cleaning and test print and alignment many times. I can't find anything in the firmware that I haven't tried. I've searched the internet and manufacturer's site to no avail.

See attached screen shots, (bear in mind these are scanned images so even the print I'm saying looks ok in real life actually looks pretty bad on the scanned image).

Please help, this is very frustrating!

I have an epson printer with a faulty black cartridge head and therefore it wont print any black - only colour. Can I fool the printer by telling windows to print all text in brown or some other colour as a default, even if its being displayed in black on the screen.

Answer:Can I tell windows to print black text in colour

I think the answer is "no". But, of course, you can probably change the font colour in Word or whatever software the document is being printed from. But that will require trial and error -- you'll have to specify colours which don't have any black mixed in them.

Hi guys,

I have an issue that I don't know quite know, how to approach.

I would like the mentioned printer to revert back to a "black and white" setting pr. default every time a user have chosen to print out a job in color. Naturally, I would like to set this on the printserver itself and have the setting filter down to the entire userbase. How do I do this?

The printserver runs on a MS 2003 server R2. Setting "black and white" as admin in the printer's properties on the printserver itself, changes nothing.

I'm having problems printing black and white photos using ADOBE Photoshop 7 and Canon i965. On Standard printing, plain paper, and to a lessor degree on other paper types, am getting parallel horizontal lines with a pink/magenta cast when printing a single colour such as blue. Recommended Adobe conversion features, I convert colour pictures to black and white, all produce BW prints having a Brown colour cast. I have replaced cartridges and used all printer maintenance actions to no avail. Inserting a picture into Word and then converting it to BW has the same effect. Is this a solvable problem?

Answer:Help-Black & White printing problems with Canon i965

What is happening with the black I think is that most printers print raster images by mixing the colors to get black. Some don’t do a great job of it. You might run a nozzle check to see that nothing is clogged.

If you scan the document originally in one bit it might print better. One bit is “line art” or “black and white” on most scanners. You can also try Image>Mode>Bitmap in Photoshop. Then use the threshold command to clean it up so you don’t get the extraneous stuff. Once you get it into bitmap you can select a solid color.

If it won’t let you switch to bitmap you could mess with levels or contrast to try to get the extraneous stuff out. You might mess with the histogram in the scanner to clean it up as well. It sounds like your scanner is picking up the extra stuff you are seeing.

If you have a HP printer most have a “black only” under grayscale. That won’t help printing in a solid color though. With black only you use only the large pigmented black tank.

They should be fit for the purpose they were sold for. Contact them would be the first thing to do. If that doesn't bear fruit, just buy from more from someone else. Westlake's (click here) compatibles were fine for me, and they replaced a faulty cartridge promptly. Choice Stationery are often recommended for Epson compatibles.

About 3 years ago this month Tedster posted about the issue he was having with his Canon i860 printer - e.g., that it wouldn't print black. He went through considerable pains trying to fix the problem, and in his last post of that (now locked) thread he wrote, "I've decided to order a new print head.... We'll see how that goes."

By now I'm sure you've figured out that I am experiencing exactly the same problem (yeah, 3 years later!). Canon support has (sorta) tried to help, but their suggestion is for me to take it to an "authorized" repair shop. I don't think so, thanks.

So my question (to Tedster or anyone) is, did the new print head help, or no? (I suspect no.) I loved that printer, but I'm not convinced I want to spend $55-60 for a part I can't return and that won't fix the problem - and that costs about half of what a brand-new printer would cost (i.e., the PIXMA MP620 I just brought home).

Cordially,

Alan

Answer:Canon i8600 Won't Print Black Ink

in short - yes. If you have cleaned the head to no avail, then your only solution is replacing it.

cheaper than a new printer? maybe. Depends on the model. A head will run about $40. Easy to swap out.

Hi,
I've got a Canon i250 printer, yes I know its old but up to know has been very good, but all of sudden it won't print black.
I have checked the cartridge and it shows it as being full, I only replaced it a short while ago.
I can print in colour ok, some of the colours use black and I know it prints ok there. For example I have created a letterheading with a colour logo, blue, grey and so on, and the text of the letter in in black.
It will print the logo but will not even attempt to print the black text. I have tried cleaning the printer through its software but nothing seems to make it want to print black.
Stange because upt to very recently is was working fine.
Any ideas? I'm using Windows XP if that helps

Answer:My Canon printer won't print black

Have you taken the entire head assembly out to check on the print head? (Flip up the gray U-Shaped latch handle up and pull the whole black carriage out.) Check to see if there any buildup of ink there.

Have you seen any warnings about 'Your Ink Waste Tank is nearly full'? This will shut down the black sometimes, and in a machine like an I250, it probably doesn't have replacement parts available. But, no worries... here's a fix - http://www.fixyourownprinter.com/forums/inkjet/25564

I have a canon MP560 pixma printer that I am not able to print using the canon black ink. The cartridges are new OEM Canon cartridges. The printer has been idle for 1 year and is essentially new. I did a couple of black only deep cleanings but still prints black in a blue tone. I had Canon customer service tell me it could be a malfunctioning print head. Is there a way to clean the print head using alcohol and will this possibly clean the head without damaging it? I have used this method on other printers. Does anyone have another suggestions.

I'm having trouble with one very annoying thing I have stumbled upon recently.

I have a canon pixma ip1300 color inkjet printer and I wanted to print only in black and white. I went in the printer preferences and selected to use only the black cartridge for my printing but now every time i print something I get with the following message which I have to click on the "OK" in order to get the printing started.
That is justo so annoying. I print a lot and every time I have to clik .. OK, OK, OK ,pfff

How can I turn off that warning ?

Any ideas ?

Recently I got back to my i560 as I didn't want it to go to a waste. I mean it's been pretty awesome so far, so why not just use it and save lexmark for later?

Well, I bought new ink and installed all the cartidges. Since I haven't used the printer for a while, I thought it would be a good idea to do some cleanup so I went ahead and did a deep clean of all the colors, printed a head alignment thing and then a nozzle check. On all the pages...there weren't a spot of black ink.

I went back to check the cartridges, nothing wrong there. I did another deep clean again but didn't have any affect.

Please help.

I have a canon i560s and I recently replaced the ink cartridges.

Now, if I try to print under normal settings, the paper comes out blank. The only way it prints is if I change the print quality to High (which should only be used for printing photos) and change the paper type to anything but Plain Paper. What's strange is that I can print color under normal settings, but not black. I know theres nothing wrong with the black cartridge, however, because it prints fine if I increase paper and print quality.

Got a canon i860 printer. The print head stopped printing regular black. I have soaked it overnight with ammonia/water mix as well as alcohol.

Still no text. It wil print other colors. The automatic alignment has also stopped working. Should I replace the print head?
I think I have done all I can with this head.

Answer:Canon i860 won't print black text

Doesn't the Canon printer utility have a "clean print head" option? I seem to remember seeing that for my i550.

My nozzles tend to clog bec. I'll go a month or so between printing photos. I usually just print a full color draft on plain paper, which unclogs.

Have you tried printing a photo, rather than a text page?

If that doesn't work, and after all the things you've tried, it may be time to send this one on to the print cartridge graveyard.

Have a Canon PIXMA MG6120 that's ~ 3 yrs. old. It has stopped printing from the large black cartridge. About 2 weeks ago, it started printing very faint or only partial black text, then nothing. Thinking it might be a faulty cartridge, I inserted a new one. Still not printing. Have done head alignment and deep cleaning several times. All the color cartridges work, black does not.

I have removed the print head and have it soaking in methyl alcohol. Don't know if that's going to do anything, but in the meantime, any suggestions from anyone who's had the same problem would be helpful (like washing the head in water with detergent; I've read threads where that was done.

Answer:Solved: Canon MG6120 will not print black

Having read more articles about clogged print heads, and the fact that there is nothing "electrical" in them, I decided to try soaking the print head in warm water containing some Dawn dish detergent. After about 4 hours, I removed the head and rinsed it thoroughly until I saw no ink coming out of the slots on the bottom. Replace the head and cartridges, did a realignment. The nozzle pattern printout at least now printed the black cross-hatch at the top, but it was not perfect (some lines missing). So I did 2 deep cleanings. The nozzle pattern printout is still not perfect, but when I print a document, it comes out perfectly.

In hindsight, I think the problem occurred because I was using a black (225) cartridge that was over a year old. I suspect the ink had "congealed" to some degree, clogging the head. I inserted a new cartridge, and everything seems to be A-OK.

I will mark the thread 'solved'.

Running XP home /sp2. Canon ip3000 printer (USB port)
Changed BLK cartridge,Color inks low.
Maintenence test prints all colors (incl BLK) good.
No black text prints from other Apps (notepad, etc.)
File/Print preview shows faded text.
????? any Ideas welcome.

Answer:Solved: Canon ip3000 no black print

Most inkjet printers depend on having both of the cartridges working properly since the color shows low I suggest purchasing a new color cartridge install it and see if that fixes the problem.

You can also remove the inkjet software and drivers and re-install and check it out.

My printer has suddenly stopped printing in black and white but works fine with colours.
I have cleaned the print head several times and done everything the manual suggests. It did this about 6 weeks ago and then righted itself but now it happened again.
I do use compatible inks and the Canon MP540 is supposed to be the best one to accept compatible inks. I know Canon will say this has caused the problem but I have used them for years with several machines and had no problem.
I would be grateful if anyone has any advise as how to solve this. A new print head costs almost as much as a new machine so I do not really want to buy one in case this is not actually causing the problem.
I will have to buy a new printer if I cannot solve it.
Thanks

Answer:Printer will not print in black and white

If you have purchased the compatibles from the same source, then I would suggest that you go back to that seller for further advice. Some compatibles can get suspect, when problems you describe are evident.
I have a number of various branded printers, and the reason for this is due to problems that take a lot of resolving, sometimes with negative results. The quickest way to resolve some issues is to buy new with a full warranty attached. Standard printers nowadays are that cheap!.
You could try this link for an answer, otherwise a Google search for known problems with that particular printer model? click here

I need software that will let me print and invert in black & white.

http://dogfoodselector.com/can-dogs-eat-human-foods/

At the bottom of the page is a list I need to print out.
1) I need this in black & white.
2) I need to invert this so I get black letters against a white background.

I can print this with white letters against a black background (in monochrome), but i'll use up too much black ink. What I want to do is invert the colors so that I get regular black letters against a white background.

Any have any ideas?

Answer:Need to print a list in black & white

Well, more importantly is why you want to feed a dog human food?

Although dogs are capable of eating human food, they should be fed proper dog food nutrionally balanced for them. The odd human treat is not an issue.

Regarding list - there is not that much info, you could easily type it in in 30 mins, or use new dictation keyboard tool.

Hi,

I've 'inherited' a Canon S750 printer.

For some reason, the black ink cartridge won't print to the paper. I've changed all of the empty print cartridges and replaced them with new ones. A new cartridge shows no change in printing.

The color cartridges seem to print fine. I've performed deep cleanings, print alignments and nozzle checks and nothing seems to resolve the problem. I've examined the contact between the head or jet or well and the cartridge. There doesn't appear to be a clog.

Does anyone have a suggestion?

Thanks,

BPer

The small black ink cartridge is empty but the system shows the big one full. When we try to print, it won't print at all because it says the black ink is empty. Can we get around this and/or force the printer to use the other cartridge? What makes it only use the small one and not the big one?

FYI we have an iMac w/ Mac OS X v 10.6.8

Answer:Canon MP560 won't print w/ 1 black ink full and one empty

The larger of the two black cartridges contains pigment-based black ink for photo printing, whereas the smaller one contains dye-based black ink for text (dye-based black gives sharper, crisper text compared to pigment-based).

The printer can detect from the incoming print-data which one is appropriate for it to use, and you can't override that.
You can't force it to use the large black cartridge to print text. You'll have to replace the small one.

My HP7510 will not print black and white photos on photo paper of any kind but it will print them in blue! I have had to ask the question here as I cannot find help anywhere else. This printer is a Photosmart so it's meant to print photos but it's hopeless. It's fine with colour but black and white/grayscale/black ink only - no. If I try printing on photo paper it gives me a warning traingle which says conflict and won't print the photo in black and white, it's infuriating. Do I only have a printer that will print colour? It's useless. The ink levels are fine and even doing a staright copy via the printer results in a blue copy. Help please

Answer:HP7510 will not print black and white photos

Try printing a text document in black -if ok then you have ink, if blue then the printer thinks it has run out of black and is trying to make it from the other colours.

Answer:{SOLVED} IE 4.71-How do I print web pages in Black/White

I think that would be done from the File>Print>and Printer Properties for your specific printer. The program that runs the printer on mine offers the option of printing in Black or various degrees of color quality. Check your for the option. If you just select the Print button, it will print the way you have it setup in the Printer Properties.

Hi there gurus.
My pc doesn?t show certain colour objects in Publisher 2007 and some on-line sites. Overall, the screen colour is very good. I know the fault is localised, because when I switch to Print Preview in Publisher it looks fine and I can see all the object colours. (I only lose the colour with objects, not text)
Also, when I send a copy of a Publisher page to my partner who is on the same PC, it looks fine on her screen.
I?ve tried going to Install/uninstall programs and run the Repair, but to no avail. The guys in my computer shop are clueless without seeing it. Anyone who can help solve this for me is a gem.
Cheers!

Hi Allhope someone more knowledgable can advise - I recently purchased a Lexmark x500n multifunction colour laser printer - I had a big black print job to do excel and word - 2000 pages - i was shocked to see that - ok the black starter cartridge of 2500 pages was nearly empty- fair enough - but all three colour cartridges (1500 page size) were nearly all empty too - I hadn't done any colour printing but when i contacted the manuf they advised that the printer uses colour also to print black!! - it's getting returned to them - but do do all colour lasers do this - obviously this quadruples the costs of printing and has put my costing out of the window!! - any advice would be great - it's a network colour printer, with copier and scanner that I need - a fax would be great but not essential.thanks in advanceTrifly

Answer:COLOUR LASER - PRINTING BLACK USING COLOUR!!

That would pee me off no end. How in God's name can it use colour to create black when there's a black cartridge in there? A cheapo mono laser seems to be your ideal tool. I know nothing about colour laser printers, but is there an option anywhere in the settings to print using only the black cartridge? Does the printer still work if you take out the colour cartridge while printing only black text documents?

My Canon printer has, of late, decided to give an overall magenta tint when printing any kind of illustration regardless of quality or paper selected. It started by just affecting "photo paper" printouts, but as I say all illustation prints are now being affected. I have run the cleaning process (including deep cleaning) several times, but to no avail. It would appear that the problem is not really one of blocked jets, but more of a "flooding" problem. Any advice would be appreciated. I am currently thinking of going down the new print head route, but at £40+ a pop I would like to avoid it if possible.

Answer:Canon ip4300 - Colour "flooding"

One thing I know is that after a lot of printing the printer head can wear out. Thats the cradle that the cartridges sit in. If you are using the compatible ink cartridges you might find its them to blame. I had a similar problem a year ago and that is what mine was caused by. If you have changed the little micro chips to those cartridges just be sure you dont mix them because they are colour specific.

My printer gives a slight magenta colour tinge which according to a Photo -i review is the way of the printer. It is most noticable when printing a picture with a grey road surface. Whatever I do, I can't seem to remove the magenta tinge. I use Photoshop Elements. I've tried using the CNBJPRN2 profile with E2 set to same as source and enable ICM turned on. no good. The best I can get so far, is with all the profiles deleted and using P2 colour management profile Canoni965 PR2 and with ICM off. But there is still a tinge, albeit not so great. Canon say that the reason that their sample print was completely different is because their printers are set with expensive custom made ICC profiles. I would welcome advice on what profiles and settings other users use, and whether I will have to follow the costly path of custom profiles etc.

Buy a Canon Black cartridge and put it in, if your print quality returns to normal after a couple of runs, you have solved the problem. If not, try cleaning the heads, but my guess is that the 3rd party cartridge is not up to craik.

Hi, I decided to intall cheaper carts on my printer and extracted the chips from the old carts and some worked. I have two now that I have bought genuine Canon carts for but when i install them, the red light keeps flashing on the cart and the amber light on the front flashes seven times continuously. When I try to print I get an eror message saying I cannot have more than one of the same ink tanks installed. Any ideas? Canon say the printer is out or warranty and try turning it off for an hour to reset itself! ( Which didn't work!)

Answer:Canon ip4200 - More than one ink tank of the same colour installed

Resolved this one although I feel a little silly, I thought I would post the answer as I could not find it on any website.
I asked inkredible.co.uk, who I bought the compatible carts from if they had ever came across this and they said "Hi Tony, The only time I have come across this is when I transferred the chips the very first time I did it. The problem was that I got the chips mixed up. What your printer is saying is that you have 2 chips in the printer that come from the same cartridge. 1 will be the original cartridge. The other will be on the wrong colour compatible. Hope this helps. Regards, Nichola"

The lesson is replace one cart at a time and do not do what I did and think I may as well replace them all as they are all running out. Then I got the chips mixed up. The chip is therefore specific to an individual colour even though each colour is exactly the same shape of cartridge.

You learn something new everyday.!!!

I want to print 'something'
Annoyingly, it will have a LARGE black area - or maybe a large area of something else - another colour

I print: I waste ink, lots of it - bad for the world, costly and expensive wasting that ink, if on an inkjet - also rubs off on you!!

Is there a printing program that examines large areas, if they are of a similar colour, substitutes it for a zigzag pattern of the same colour?

See below for a rough sketch of what I mean:

I did a quick search on google, couldn't find anything - but then again, I wasnt sure 'what' to search for!

Hi Everyone,

I recently brought photoshop and am really eager to start playing around with it. However I have this very unusual problem.

It seems that there is no white?! I mean to say, if I open up a new image, the background is more of a pink colour. Additionally, I open up other jpegs, bmps etc and these too become distorted by this pink colour. I have been to the colour properties tab and everything and it's as if pink has become white for some reason?!

I know that whilst installing there were some questions asked in regards to image properties and colours but I can't really remember what it said as I wasn't paying attention.

Is there a quick fix to this problem? I don't have any fancy image cards but I am sure that's not the problem.

Any advice greatly appreciated - thanks.

Answer:Poor colour repro using Canon Printer & Scanner

it may be a callibration problem - monitors have to be setup to show correct colours or what looks ok does not print ok - or you could have a dirty printhead on the printer if this has only just happened. You could look for an updated driver for your printer.

I have been getting great photos from this printer without doing any fancy colour adjustments - they were printing pretty true to what I was seeing on the screen.I neede new cartridges so I bought cheaper compatibles from PC World. I did ask in the shop and was told that the inks were the same.First photos I have tried to print are coming out with a very green tinge. I can take ages and waste lots of paper adjusting this in the advanced printer settings - BUT - I don't want to. Why does it happen? Are the basic ink colours different and if so how can they sell them as compatible? Is there an easier solution than complicated colour adjustments?

Hi, it is possible that the Canon printers just don't 'like' compatibles, I believe some printers don't. I have only ever used Epson printers, but I always buys compatibles when I need them and I have no problems with colours. It might be that you would get better prints with original Canon cartridges.Sorry I can't be more helpfull.

Hi all,

I have a Canon Pixma MP460 all-in-one and mainly use the inkjet printer function.

At present it says both my cartridges are low and I need to replace them.

My question is do I need to replace the colour one if I am only going to print in black & white?

I've done some reading online and from what I can gather I probably will as this device won't just print in black & white without having both cartridges and, not only that, but they both have to be above a minimum ink level - is that right? If so, this means that I can't even leave an empty colour one in, which is somewhat annoying.

However, it is still printing at present so maybe if I stop using colour completely now then it will be ok just to replace the black & white cartridge and change the settings to always print in black & white - what do you guys think?

Thanks.
Gareth.

Going through the change within Elements, I'm presented with a list of options within "Printer Profile" - and my problem is that there are 8 options for Canon MP560, all quoting different series (eg GLs / SG2 and PR1, PR2 etc). I just wondered if anyone coyuld advise a) how do I find out what series my printer is and b) is it important anyway so could I just pick one at random??!!
Appreciate any help that anyone can give, thanks.

Answer:Canon MP560 & Photoshop Elements - colour management advice very welcome please

Well I don't use elements, but in Photoshop it's File>>Print with image open. I always have it set for Photoshop to manage colour This gives me excellent colour reproduction using the Canon MG6150. Calibration of monitor via "Datacolor Spyder 2"
In Photoshop Elements, go to File > Print, or press Ctrl + p. You may need an image open to access the colour management section.
2) Look for the Color Management section.
In earlier versions of Photoshop Elements, you must select Show More Options.
3) Look for Color Handling.
4) Change it from Printer Manages Color to Photoshop Elements Manages Color.

I am not able to print any documents from MS Word 2003, but can print documents off of the web. I have an hp psc 1350 printer. Can anyone help me fix this problem? Thanks.

Answer:Word won't print any docs

Did this just start or has it always been this way? If it just started, what led up to it?What happens when you try to print in Word?

I have a wierd problem and I think I may have read about this in the past on this forum.

I have windows 2000 on my laptop with word 2002. I can create word documents with no problem. I can open and print ( local printer ) any word document that I recieve from someone else. If however I creat a word document and then try to print it myself I cannot get it to print.

Any ideas??

Answer:Can't print word docs

Make sure that you have a printer selected at the time.

Its also possible that a corrupted Normal.dot file can cause this, and any document that you create will use this as a template.

Find and delete any instances of Normal.dot (you must have at least 1, if you cannot find any then its more to do with the search preferences, as it may be a hidden or system file)

Word will create a new file when it first runs.

It may not fix any older documents you have created but copying and pasting the contents to a new document may help after deleting Normal.dot

Is there an easy way to just change the file explorer background colour from white to another colour (light grey) with Win 10?

I don't want to change to a different theme etc such as high contrast etc...I just want to change the background colour of the main file explorer window.

Thanks
Ray
