How Can I Find Out What Hardware Is Inside My Laptop?

Question: How Can I Find Out What Hardware Is Inside My Laptop?

There were a few apps about at one point which you could load up in Windows and they would give you a breakdown of the inner-workings of your PC, i.e. what processor, RAM, HD etc etc...

I've long since forgotten what the app was called and want to get some RAM to upgrade a friend's laptop... I do recall it going from a totally free app to one which required registration for the more advanced features...

Anybody able to help out?
Many thanks

Ok, slightly unusual problem here.I have a Dell Inspiron 530S computer, running windows 7.It used to have Windows Vista installed. While Windows Vista was installed, I manually installed a graphics card; something from the NVidea family I believe. This was a few years ago. I installed the drivers for it, and it worked fine.I have recently formatted the primary harddrive and installed a clean and registered version of Windows 7, and now it can't find the graphics card; it using the hardware the came with the computer, Intel G33/G31. I've tried opening up the computer to find the NVidea graphics card, but cannot remember what it is supposed to look like. So, what should I do? Is there a way to make Windows find and start using the NVidea graphics card, as opposed to the Intel G33/G31? The hardware should still be connected.

I was looking to build a friend a computer, but he asked that I replace the hardware inside of his existing tower to save him the cost of a brand new one. However, when I've looked up specs on the eMachines W3107, it just states that the form factor is "Tower"... which doesn't help me at all.

I don't build desktops on the regular, although I have finished a few recently. So I'm a bit unsure on this one and wanted to get some input from you guys.

I log into my account, using onscreen keyboard just incase. I got in fine.

I check my Warcraft account, i see a msg saying its been suspended I cant see any other info.

I check WoWarmory site and my characters have been logged on yesterday, lolwtf?

The only 'torrents' i download, are the occasional movie from aXXo or a TV show from EZTV (all trusted uploaders). I actually BUY my music off itunes. I recently just reformatted my PC and freshly installed Windows 7 x64 as well.

This has me all paranoid, it's like I've been violated I love my PC. I spend a lot of time gaming on it, to have this happen has me disturbed and unable to sleep to say the least. I even had some e-mails saying I was trying to reset my password for my gmail and steam account

Ok Techies, I need some real help on this one....

Older Gateway P3 500mhz last week was working fine...
I don't know the exact details it is my mom's PC and I am giving it a whirl at it... Was working fine then one day she says everytime she boots after bios black screen says"no OS found"

So I pick up thePC and bios won't and can't find a Hard drive.
Maybe bad drive, I remove and replace it with a good one w/ OS already installed.. NO OS found..
I insert Windows Xp disc in CD rom and it loads drivers and then begin to install, next "windows can't continue no HD detected.

Back to bios check Periph.. no primary (none)
secondary shows (cd rom)

I try swapping out

Hard drives..
New ribbon cable...
Switch IDE spots on mobo...
Try to run HD & CD on same line set one for slave.. (didn't work)
Try hooking up HD and remove CD
Bios still shows None for primary and secondary...

Bios recognizes CD roms... but won't detect any HD's...

I try to reset Bios (nvidia) w/ jumper... still same
Removed battery cleaned contacts ... still won't find HD
Ok I'm at wits end .. can't think of anything else to try...

Beg and plead anyone w/ ideas feel free to post...

Truly appreciate any help and suggestions

Answer:Bios/PC can't find HD details inside

Have you tried a different power connector on the hard drive? Also try entering the hard drive parameters manually in the BIOS.

Good luck.

On a side note, it is possible that the CMOS battery is dead. On some older machines if the battery goes the BIOS won't detect the hard drive.

It's a Windows 7 64 bit system. This search within RTF files has never worked. It's beomce more of an issue because of bringing in these RTF files from CD. It won't even find them by name.
The files are under My Documents.
The file extension is set under the Indexing Options.
I have rebuilt the index with Index Properties and File Contents checked.
I have gone under Folder options and selected "Always search file names and contents..."
None of this has worked. Any ideas?

I have this 3COM switch that is located in my server room and is basically the backbone of a single subnet domain. It does have the 2 gigabit cards added in the back that give a total of 4) gigabit connections which are in use by servers. We have 2 other closets housing various switches ( and a couple of hubs ) none of which are manageable. The closets are connected back to the server room by fiber.

We are planning a move to VoIP very soon and I was hoping that I can use this 3COM switch to see how much bandwidth is currently being used, etc. Since I have never looked into a managed switch like this there is probably other info I need but don't yet know it until I see it.

- Which of the software/utilities do I need to use on the 3COM page to start watching my switch?

- What should I be watching for to see how my network and switch are performing?

- Will this give me a good snapshot of what is going on my network to decide whether I need to move to gigabit?

I know this a lot of questions but I would very much appreciate any info you can give on this.

Answer:How do I find out what is going on inside my 3COM switch?

Well, your server should have a network anyliser program in the admin tools. That might give you a breif idea of whats going on on your network.

I received a used Compaq computer as a gift with no CD, no instruction book, no printed materials of any kind. The best I can tell, it's a DeskPro ENL/P733 (got that by trolling the Compaq site). Is there a way that I can learn about the stuff inside? My specific need is to know how much RAM it can hold (I know that it now has 128 MB), how many slots (is that the word?) there are for the memory thingies, how much memory can be put into each slot, what info I need if I want to buy more RAM, etc. Months ago, I added RAM to the 1998 Gateway I was using, but I had all the info I needed from the Gateway people. Thanks for any help.

Hi!I looked for a simple way to do this with a formula but did not find the right one yet.Problem.I have a list of words and their translation in 2 columns. For example:House | MaisonMoon | LuneDay | Jourand so on.Then I have in another sheet one column with sentences, one sentence in one cell, but may have different line breaks.Condition: if a word in the array of source words (all in Column A in Sheet2) is contained in the text in A2 in Sheet1, I want the corresponding word in the next column appears in B2 in Sheet one (next to the sentence). If no words from the list is contained in the sentence, then output nothing. And this was problem 1.Now problem 2.Same thing, but I wonder if it is possible to have in B2 not the value alone found from the list in the sentence, but! the same sentence from A2, but instead of the original word, the translated word.Example:Sentence:This is a house. The word House is in the dictionary, and is found in the sentence. I'd like to read "This is a Maison" in B2. Is this possible with a formula?Thank you in advance!

Answer:Find a word inside a sentence and output it

This formula should get you going on half your problem:The text string should be in cell A1The word your looking for in cell D1In Cell B1 enter the formula:=IF($D1=0," ",IF(ISERROR(FIND(LOWER($D1),LOWER(A1),1)),"No","Yes"))Modify to suit your needs.MIKE

My awesome cherry mx brown mechanical keyboard has been gathering dust for months... it works just fine, except it connects via PS/2 (has a separate usb that only activates the back lighting), and somehow the pins unglued. I've spliced wires before and figured it would be no different. I purchased cheap PS/2 cords, cut them open, and lo and behold the wires inside were not the same. Different colors, different amounts. Is there a specific way to look up a cord that would have the same wires inside as the cord attached to my keyboard? Seems a shame to throw away something I really liked and spend over a hundred bucks on because of this. Manufacturer is no longer in business apparently, so I can't contact them.

The wires inside are blue, light blue, pink, white, and a bare copper wire.

My apologies if the question seems stupid, all I've spliced before have been power cords, I'm not an electrical or computer expert. I just really don't want to spend another $100, and I am sick of using my cheap replacement keyboard. Thanks for any help.

Answer:Replacing PS/2 on keyboard - how do I find a cord with the same wiring *inside*

From the original lead find out which wire goes to which pin in the PS/2 plug, a multimeter will help for that. Then do the same thing for the new lead, that will tell you which colours to connect together when you 'splice' the new lead to the end of the old one. Make sure none of the bare wires can touch each other after the splicing. You should cover each join with tape to be sure. It would be better to solder the wires together rather than just splicing them.

Lastnight, I suddenly had warnings pop up from McAfee and AdAware Livescan that I had a trojan. McAfee asked for authorization to allow at least 2 registry changes, which I blocked. Hi everyone,

I had a folder on my desktop with some zipped files in it and I wanted to unzip them inside of the sandbox of the program sandboxie. I moved the folder to C:\Temp\Sandbox\HP_Administrator\DefaultBox\user\current

After I moved the folder and tried to open it, access was denied. I used the program "unlocker" to move the folder back to my desktop but access is still denied. The folder properties says the folder is empty, but when go to my C drive and click on the properties, the hard drive free space is showing a size that suggests the data is still on the drive, but I cannot find or access it.

I used the "everything search engine" and when I search for the file names, they show up in the search results inside of the correct directory / folder, but they show a size of zero and I cannot access them or even click on them to obtain their properties.

I tried to restart the computer (probably should have done this) and it did not help.

Can anyone tell me what may have happened or how I might get this data back ? If I cannot get the data back, my hard drive free space has been reduced by the size of the data in the folder, can I at least get the hard drive free space back ?

Answer:Moved folder and now I cannot access it or find data inside

I was able to recover the data using "minitool power data recovery free".

However, the "missing data" is still on the hard drive somewhere and it has reduced the amount of free space on my drive by double what the original file sizes were (the size of the recovered data and the non accessible data).

I can try to delete the non accessible folder on my desktop with "unlocker" but the folder shows a size of zero. I'm not sure it would get the free space back on the drive.

Does anyone have any suggestions for how I can delete the missing data and regain the free space on the C: drive ? If I cannot ever access the missing data to delete it, will this likely hurt anything ?

After months of struggling with my computer to get rid of all the viruses it had, I apparently and accidentally deleted important files, so my computer won't start anymore, showing the message "Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt: <Windows root>\system32\hal.dll. Please re-install a copy of the above file."
I've tried everything to fix this problem without having to resort to a complete reformat of my C:, but finally decided to go for that option, since no other solution seemed possible. So I have already backed up all my important information to an external hard drive (I'm aware that some of the files I copied could contain a virus) through the use of the rescue CD "ERD Commander" (I also have the XP Pilitos, which is very good). However, before I proceed to reformatting the C:, I would like to know if there is any way I can create a copy of my orignal OS (when I bought the computer, the OS came pre-insalled and I didn't get the OS CD which I need now). Anyway, I haven been able to access my C: and see the partitions with Pilitos, and it does seem to have 2 partitions: one -the smaller- says "data", the other one is I guess the one I where I generally work. My questions are:

a) Is there any way I can check through either the ERD Commander or the XP Pilitos whether the Original Windows XP Home CD is in that partition and create my CD from there?

You might have noticed that the old 'Add Legacy Hardware' option seems to be missing. With that said, thankfully, you can still manually launch the 'Add Legacy Hardware' Control Panel applet by using hdwwiz.exe. **

Hi all,I have been given (lucky me!) a Sigma SI laptop. It seems to have an overheat problem and a super noisy fan.I want to get in and at least get rid of all the dust and probably renew the fan.I've never been inside a laptop before so, proceeding with caution I took all the screws out of the bottom and tried to prise the two halves apart. As the case wouldn't give up without a struggle I have put the screws back and am looking for advice!!Any ideas, links and or advice? Many thanks, Epirb.

Answer:Getting inside me laptop!

I don't know this particular laptop but the key to opening a laptop is usually through the keyboard. Look for screws or clips in the keyboard area that may allow it to pop up. Once the keyboard is released there are usually screws underneath holding the rest together.

Hey. I'm looking to upgrade my brothers' computer. I need a new mobo, CPU, and some RAM modules.

Now, I know I can go to newegg myself and look there, but I also know that you guys are pros when it comes to this, and I'd like the best bang for my buck. So I'd appreciate it if you could help me find the best deals out there (from newegg).

Ok, so for mobos, I prefer AMD-based socket 939 (please no AM2--just 939) and exactly 1 PCI-E x16 slot (for later upgrading). For now, they'll be using onboard video, though, so make sure that that's at least mediocre.

For CPU, any 939 Athlon 64 will do.

And finally, for RAM, just please have it be compatible with the mobo. No more than 512MB is needed (again, at least just for now. 3-4 sockets for RAM is preferred).

In total, I don't want to spend any more than $225 including S&H, excluding mail in rebates.

Thanks, dudes.

Toshiba Satellite C675D-S7109

Answer:Need to Clean a laptop Inside?

It's very possible your laptop has a dust problem. The inside of a laptop doesn't have very much room compared to a desktop. So all of the major components like motherboard, hard drive, RAM, GPU, etc are shoved together with very little room to spare. There's usually one small fan that's supposed to circulate the air to keep things cool. The least little dust build up can seriously affect that air flow resulting in overheating. This article gives some suggestions on how to clean your laptop. If you google "how to clean a laptop" you can find several more articles.

How to clean your laptop of dust and dirt | News | TechRadar

You shouldn't have to take anything apart other than the access covers on the bottom of the machine. A can of compressed air should be able to blow out much of the dust buildup. Use short bursts of air or you may find the liquid propellant squirting out. That would be very bad. Also, always keep the can upright and don't tilt it. Same problem - liquid propellant could be released.

You should always keep the laptop on a hard flat surface so the vents don't get blocked by a pillow, blanket, or even your lap. Air flow is critical. And many people use a laptop cooling pad to help circulate air around the machine.

So, I took it to Lenovo service center and when the service center executive unscrewed the back there were ants all over and built a colony. They basically invaded laptop. Executive said to give laptop for observation and told after 2 days to call a number then he would exactly say the problem. My question is Will this be covered under warranty?

Answer:G50-70: Ants inside laptop

Welcome to the Lenovo Community !
Your question about warranty coverage would be best asked of the service center or found in the warranty documentation for your model.  In my opinion, a warranty is there to cover problems related to manufacture or design.  In your situation, the problem was caused by an environmental influence which would be outside of Lenovo's control and thus not covered.
If you happened to have the additional accidental warranty coverage this may cover the repair, but again I would check your documentation or ask the service provider.

Hi All, I looked in this forum for a solution to this exact problem others had but couldn't find any.  As with others, my CD went in, somehow got stuck all the way inside, and can't be extracted.  The drive opens, empty.  I checked for a screw on the bottom (based on an answer I saw) but didn't see any.  Any other suggestions for this model?  It's a ProtectSmart -- I didn't see any product number. Thanks ahead for your help  Julie

Answer:CD stuck inside the laptop

Hi, There is a link to a document which can help you how to get inside to retrieve the CD.      Regards.

I cant really unscrew mine, I guess I could, but I am worried I might break something....

My point is, should you try and clean inside, remove dust etc?

Id like to do this but I have a toughbook which is exactly that, tough to undo....

Thanks for all help!!!!

Answer:Do you clean the inside of your laptop?

I use compressed air to remove dust, etc for the vents. (I use very short, quick bursts at an angle so as to not drive the dirt deeper into the unit.) I'll also wipe down the battery compartment and undo the cover to the memory modules to see if there's any dust build up. This may give some other ideas:

How do I clean my laptop?

Hi everyone I have a Windows 8 hp laptop that is about a year old and for the past few months I have been hearing a weird rattling sound Inside it it happens most often when my laptop gets tilted  or put on an angle like on my legs or when I let it rest on the top part to stop the fan from over Heating when I leave. It sounds almost like there is a bit of plastic or metal inside it that keeps hitting the inside of my laptop somewhere but I don't know where. I think it might be inside the fan. If it is inside the fan how do you open the fan so I can get it out? Sorry if this is hard to understand I'm Not very  good at writing this kind of stuff :p all help would be appriciated

Answer:Rattling inside laptop??

Easiest method of figuring out what it is would be top open it. That is if you feel comfortable enough to do so without damaging it. Its probably a piece of plastic although if it was a small screw which then came into contact with electronics it could kill the system. If it were my computer, I would open it and remove the stray piece vs taking risk of killing it if it shorts or stops a fan etc.

Answer:Moisture inside Laptop

You should not attempt to start it for several days. If you've already done so, it is possible that you have shorted something.

Remove the battery. I would set it the way you've already done and place a fan near it to speed up evaporation. If you can get the hd out easily, remove that too; if you can't figure out how to remove it, let it in.
You will also want canned air. In a few days, when the fan has evaporated most of the moisture, use canned air in the openings and at the keyboard.

Note sure but I think taping F10 on boot goes to that partiion,

I have a T43 that was agonizingly slow. Being a nontechnical sort (compared to you) I reloaded XP Pro (SP2) from a newly purchased distribution. I downloaded the Broadcom driver using another machine, copied it to the newly rebuilt one, and installed the driver there. The operating system still says there is no internet hardware. Any suggestions?

Answer:Reloaded T43 with XP Pro, can't find hardware

Welcome to the forum! Downloading the driver is only the first step in the process. After the download is complete, the driver must be unpacked from C>Drivers>Win>Ethernet. Posting the 7-character model number of your T43 (either 26??-??? or 187?-???) would help us assist you better. Good luck and keep us posted.

The only thing I found a good amount of info on is cooling. Thank you for your time..

Quote from: doc_holliday420 on August 24, 2008, 02:55:10 PM someone told me gateway made me unable to change my mother board so i think that takes the processor out but what about ram and the hard drive? If your BIOS doesn't allow you to set CPU parameters, it is doubtful that you can (or should) overclock the RAM. There is no overclocking for hard drives.Overclocking is science and art! You have a nice system based on your other topic - my advice is->don't screw with it! Perhaps you could benefit from another video card, see what advice you get. Best of luck!

Any one please help, i just recently had my xbox 360 stolen I ran it on a wireless network, I know the Mac address and whomever stole it used it and logged into my network which tells me they are near me. I suspect they changed the host name and may be using a new IP address since I know they have still been logging online based on my gamertag activity. is there any way to trace my mac address by scannig the local wireless networks? that way I can catch the *******s....PLEEEASE HELP.

Answer:Find hardware using MAC address

If they are logging onto your router, then no. If they log onto their own network, then you can ask one of the game servers to ask for the IP address that logs onto the servers and then you can give the info to the Police, which can get the information on the user from the IP address.

However I don't think the person will be too far from you as the wireless range won't be that far out.

Was this at home, school, etc?

I am getting ready to slick my NT system because I can not get any of my administrative tools to work. I don't know what else to do.

So what I want to do is reinstall NT but I do not have any of my system drivers(computer was given to me)

Is there a way I can find out what hardware I have in it?

Another quick NT is a standalone not connected to a network..When I go into User Manager.. I get the error message "The network path was not found." "Do you want to select another domain to administer?"

What can I do?

Answer:{Resolved} - How can I find out what hardware I have?

Are you logging onto the NT machine with an account that is in the local administrator's account?

From the sound of things, it seems like you have been given a computer that has NT SERVER on it, and was once on a network LAN.

Once you are logged into the machine with a local administrator's account, you need to access the control panel, and slowly go through the different icons to find what drivers have been installed for the different hardware components. In NT4, there is no one area for this, like in Win9x. You need to look in the Multimnedai applet for your sound card, the network applet for your network card, the display applet for your screen card, the modem applet for your modem, the printer applet for your printer...

As for the User manager for Domains question... Click on the YES button, and type in your Computer's name. That will connect you top the local User manager.

The error message on top is "Allow an app through Windows Firewall". If I simply click "Windows Firewall" nothing happens. If I click "Network and Sharing Center" nothing happens. However, "Sound" for example, works fine.

the second error message is when I try to right click my desktop and "Screen Resolution".

I have already tried dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth and sfc /scannow
Neither of them solved it.

So my dad gave me an assignment to try fix this laptop... it is an HP Pavillion dv6000..its currently broken. The laptop turns on but the screen remains black or something.

Anyways appaerently the laptop has been waterdamaged and my dad thinks that by putting this card(nVIDIA NF-G8150-N-A2) or (nVIDIA NF-G6150-N-82) may fix is hard to tell whether it is a 8 or 6...

Hopefully someone out there has more understanding to this than I do. Someone pls help

And thank u

Answer:how do i put an nvidia card inside my laptop?

Well unfortunately a laptop is not like a desktop where you can just put another graphics card in it. A laptop has a built in graphics card with the motherboard so the card that your dad gave to you is no good. You can try to reset the bios and see if that fixes it, but you would have to look on the hp website to see how to do it. Otherwise you can try and get a new motherboard from hp, but most likely a new laptop is your only choice.

At what point do you feel that overheating will become a problem with a laptop in a protective case?

Of course G2 [off] is safe and I'm fairly certain that S4 will be safe because it's using almost no power, but should I worry about leaving the laptop in S3 or maybe even idle while in it's case? (for no more than an 15 minutes).

Hi guys,

I have had my toshiba satelite A500 laptop for.. since it came out basically,

I have never opened the laptop previously, since November last year, I have been having difficulties with my laptop, And about 90% of the time the laptop will shut of anytime between 2 minutes to 20 minutes of playing a game.

It doesnt seem to shut off if im browsing internet, chatting on MSN, or even watching a movie. It only seems to shut of when im playing games, Which i do on my night shifts.

I have a cooling fan underneith my laptop and it doesnt do much of a difference. I have monitored the temperature on Toshiba Pc Health Monitor. And it says CPU temperature 42-50% normally. When playing games the highest ive seen it is 81% which is in degrees C.

I have been told to use canned air, But im not 100% were to put it, And ive been told to open the laptop up and do it myself - which im not confident at doing at all without a instruction manual, Which i dont have.

Sorry for the massive page, But i thought the more details the better.

Anyone got any suggestions? Ive browsed about but have not found much, Only "use canned air" But i still dont know were to put it, And cant find out about opening this.

Sorry guys for the trouble,
And im new to the forum Hello My name is Dan.

Answer:Laptop overheating, dust inside I think

Hello Dan, welcome to TechSpot! :grinthumb

There is a little "Hello all!"-forum here somewhere called "Introduce Yourself", I think you'll find it most appealing .

Addressing the problem:

Cleaning the PC is not difficult. However something may still break the first time around, so please be gentle!

Now, as everybody told you previously, using canned air is the best way to go. Touching the components with your bare hands may shock them with electrostatic discharge (or ESD for short), and that's sure to fry out things in notime.

As for the temperature, by saying up to 81% in degrees Celsius - you mean 81 degrees Celsius right? If so, then that PC is definitely overheated :haha: .

If you want to clean out the dust, here is a short explanation on how to:

Do not worry about opening the PC. Just be cautious regarding these things:
1. If the laptop's lid doesn't come off right away, do not use excessive amounts of force. Find what's obstructing it, and gently remove the obstacle if possible.
(You know, I actually sawed a *laptop in half once... I'm just saying - *a Toshiba Tecra T9100)
2. Do not touch the electrical components with your hands directly, or with a metal/conductive object. You might funnel ESD into the PC, which may ruin it for sure. There are "ESD bracelets" that prevents ESD altogether. Plastic "surgery styled" gloves will also prevent ESD.

I have a Samsung Series 3 NP365 E5C- S02US laptop
and a disc is lost inside it.I think the disc wasn't properly seated in the CD tray when I inserted it, and it never came out. The disc tray still slides in and out properly, and my laptop works. It's just, there's a CD in there somewhere.I've shined a flashlight inside it and i can't see anything, and i don't hear any rattling.

how do i get it out? do i have to remove the optical drive?

Answer:A Disc lost inside my laptop?

You should be able to remove the DVD drive and then the disk will fall out the opening. See the below video on removing the DVD drive as it is normally one screw on the bottom of the laptop.

I part my labtop adaptor out to fix bad connection problem. The wires were resoldered and it works as normal. After fixed the wire I can not find the look-like silicone. The gray color stuff was between the wires. I guess the stuff works for proventing electric shocks among those components. Can you guys tell what the gray stuff is? I look like normal silicone. Also please let me know where I can get that?

Here is picture.

Answer:Silicones inside a laptop adaptor?

The grey stuff is 'mastic putty' you should be able to find it at any local electrical supply shop, depending on your location.

Hi and Welcome to TSF

Before attacking an adware/spyware problem with hijackthis make sure you have already run ad-aware SE with VX2 add-on cleaner, Spybot Search & Destroy (with updated database) and CWShredder as these programs will clean a lot of the crap out first. All links to programs are in my signature. Ok..on to the log?..

If you have a highspeed connection please Run an online virus scan from TrendMicro Please select the ?autoclean? option when prompted to do so.

Go to My Computer->Tools->Folder Options->View tab and make sure that Show hidden files and folders is enabled. Also make sure that the System Files and Folders are showing/visible also. Turn off system restore by right clicking on My Computer and go to Properties->System Restore and check the box for Turn off System Restore.

Reboot into Safe Mode (hit F8 key until menu shows up). Make sure to close any open browsers. Open add/remove programs and remove the following if listed.

Advanced Searchbar

MessengerPlus3- Program is adware/spyware and generates ADs and reports your browseing habits back to MSN.

Go into HijackThis->Config->Misc. Tools->Open process manager. Select the following and click Kill process for each one if they are still listed (they shouldn't be but make sure)

C:\Program Files\Messenger Plus! 3\MsgPlus.exe

Check and fix the following in HijackThis if they still exist (make sure you do not miss an entry)

Long story short my screen have small dirts, some dirts has been removed without doing anything on it an some remains. Though it's small it is still annoying, i dont even know why it goes there.

Answer:Dirt inside laptop screen

I don't think it's dirt as these screens are assembled in a dust free environment, it could be the dead pixels, I would suggest you to ignore it, when it becomes intolerable just replace the screen.

And how often should it be done? thx

I know the keyboard with canned air is easy, but how bout inside?

Answer:How do you go about removing dust inside laptop?

Compressed air works well.
Do it outdoors if you can and don't wear a white shirt. Especially if there is a lot of dust in there.
Sometimes the dust can stick and harden on the comonents.
A detail paint brush with nylon bristles works well to get this off.

Before you go inside the box, ground yourself with an anti static wristband!!

If you don't, you could fry some components with a static discharge.

Then your problems are bigger than a dusty computer.

So, my laptop has been freezing. But not exactly randomly. I can run AIM for roughly 5-10min without a freeze-up (aka, nothing works/opens, but I can still move the mouse). OR I can open up firefox and it will run no problems on about half of the sites/forums I usually browse. And lastly, I have tried to scan the computer several times, but it freezes up almost exactly halfway through (three times now), and then I can press the "Quarantine" button and it will freeze again halfway through deleting what's there (just tracking cookies).

I'm one of those people with a secondary computer, one for gaming, one for everything else. My laptop is that everything else computer, and it's quite annoying having to alt-tab out of my precious games. Worst case, I may resort to re-formatting.

If you need anymore information, I'd be happy to give it. I don't know the exact specs of the computer, as I really never cared what they were, being my secondary computer, and I can't open the system info without it freezing, so I did the best I could copying specs from a website then changing what I remembered. But it's a Dell Inspiron 1501, and you can look it up yourself if the below specs isn't enough information, or I might be able to help out.

* AMD Sempron 3500+ (1.8GHz/512Kb)
* 15.4" Ultrasharp WXGA display

Will a Samsung evo SSD fit inside this laptop -

Answer:Will a Samsung 850 SSD fit inside a HP 15 Gaming Laptop?

Hi, The following link shows its specs: It uses standard HDD (1 TB 5400 rpm SATA). Samsung has many 850 SSD's around but standard Samsung 850 SSD for laptops will fit to the HDD bay of the machine. The SSD is a little bit thinner but Samsung should have a frame in the box. Regards.

I'm in the Navy and getting ready to go on a you can imagine how that goes. I want a good gaming laptop to use in my time off to keep me busy. I would like to play Oblivion(single-player, time killer) and I can get into FPS and RTS games especially if there are others involved in the action too. So keep that in mind when you're looking at this. I've never been much of a big-time pc gamer so I'm not exactly up to par on graphics card standards and such.

But here is what I'm looking at right now. Toshiba is having a sale (20% off) on select customized laptops until May 1st. So they quote this system at a retail of 2000 some dollars but since there is a sale its only $1623.00

Hello, I'm sitting here with my Sony Vaio model PCG-61112L juuuust about cracked open and waiting to be cleaned. I've noticed lately that fps during games has been dipping, and i'll get gpu driver errors whe browsing the web, causing my display to refresh (always recovers). This is why i am cleaning it out now.

I've got my RAM chips, battery, and what i think is the hard drive removed, and all screws out. When i tried opening the bottom case, i then noticed that there is a small black cable attached to the case. I have no idea what this is, but it is attached to a ribbon thing next to where the RAM chips were labelled as "To MB." Sounds like it has something to do with the motherboard, but all i want to do is disconnect it or something so i can get the bottom casing off so i can clean this thing. Any help on this would be fantastic.

Do you have a service manual for this laptop? My advice, since you don't sound very knowledgeable or experienced, is to stop what you're doing. Your problems about FPS & GPU driver errors are most likely due to other issues than the computer needing cleaning.

My son's Sony VAIO laptop pucked it's guts, and I couldn't get it to boot up Vista and stay running. I've reinstalled Vista, but because the great guys at the now defunct Circuit City kept his restore disk - they told them that they absolutely needed to keep it. Well, guess what - it's in a landfill now.

I need to at least figure out what video driver and what wireless network drivers I need to install. It's a Sony VGN-FZ340E - but how does one ever figure out what is installed for hardware?

Thanks in advance.

Does it have a "wired" network port? If so connect that to your cable-DSLmodem/router/network switch and run Windows update. That should find missing drivers.

I have so much Hardware from older computers and would love to be able to ID them being I never marked them on what they were when I took them out of the the cases.

Can everybody please help and post back any information that can help me, web sites that you use and know of, thank you very much for the strong support like all ways, Joe

I bought my Yoga 720-15IKB slightly used on eBay and did a clean install of Win10 immediately after receiving it. During this process, I noticed the recovery partition was empty, so I decided to format the entire drive and delete the recovery partition. After getting back into Windows, I noticed the usual methods of installing Nvidia display drivers weren't working, so I opened Device Manager and can't even find the Nvidia device in there under the generic "Microsoft Basic Display" name.I'm really worried the previous owner somehow fried the card. Does anyone have any ideas of how to get it working? EDIT: This is the first driver I've tried to install. Would installing the other drivers somehow make this device appear?
