Disable/configure tapping on a touchpad without Synaptics software?

Question: Disable/configure tapping on a touchpad without Synaptics software?

Is it possible to configure a synaptics touch pad settings such as sensitivity, tapping, and type lock settings without the synaptics software?

When I upgraded my laptop to Vista, my touch pad became erratic randomly clicking both left and right buttons as well as being unresponsive and/or jumping to random locations. I discovered that the issue was caused by the synaptics software. When I uninstalled the software part of the driver, the touchpad worked fine, but I can't configure it. I've tried updating to the latest software/driver from the synaptics website as well as Compaq's recommended drivers for my laptop off their website and neither worked. I've also tried on several occasions to deal with Compaq chat tech support but was unable to come up with a solution.

If anyone knows if it can be configured in the registry, or if there is a config file that can be edited, or 3rd party software, please let me know if you have any ideas!

Preferred Solution: Disable/configure tapping on a touchpad without Synaptics software?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello,

how can I disable tapping on a A210-103 with a Synaptics touchpad.
Tapping means to me that when I touch the touchpad the notebook translate it under circumstances as a mouse click which I don't want.

In the German settings I have found nothing like "tapping".

Answer:How can I disable tapping on Satellite A210-103 with a Synaptics touchpad

Hello Hans Juergen

Of course you can disable the ?tapping?.

I assume you want to disable this ?tapping? and instead of tapping you want to use the both touchpad buttons. Am I right?

This can be disabled in;
Control Panel -> Mouse -> last tab called ?Device Settings? (or similar).
There you have to choose ?Settings? of Synaptics TouchPad

The new window should open and there you could find many different details and settings.
You have to mark the second option ?tapping?. It?s under the point ?overview?.
There you have uncheck the option ?enable tapping?

That?s all ;)

Hi,
I'm using a Synaptics Touchpad on my Acer V3-551 and when I follow the steps to turn off double tapping (go to the device settings in mouse and click settings and find tapping and disable) I can't seem to find the tapping option. The only options are Overview and Buttons. I have updated my driver to make sure it is fully up to date. This computer was once windows 8 but is now windows 7. Is there an option I need to turn off in order to see it? (full model is V3-551-8469)
Thanks!

My Ideapad Z580 is a month out of warranty and the Synaptics touchpad keys suddenly stopped working todayabout 24 hours after I applied a raft of Windows 8.1 updates. I subsequently did a system restore back to just after the updates were applied and this has given me back use of the left and right touchpad buttons but I also seem to have lost the configuring app, the icon for which used to be in with a load of other hidden icons in the system tray. How can I retrieve it please because, although the touchpad now works again, it is pretty well unusable and I'm having to rely on my trusty old wire less mouse?

Answer:Cannot configure Synaptics touchpad

Forget what I asked in my earlier post. It seems that, if I uninstall the touchpad, then, after a reboot, it is automatically reinstalled but the Synaptics Pointing Device icon subsequently take a long time to reappear in the system tray, allowing me to change settings again. I can't say the touchpad is a joy to use (it never has been) but it is usable even if it does seem to be playing silly buggers now and again, ie the the cursor occasionally picks up fields it passes over and drags them round the screen.

I'm so frustrated I'm about to throw the laptop into the wall. I keep disabling the touchpad tapping from the mouse ultranav settings on this t430u but it doesn't get disabled. As I keep working, the mouse keeps getting tapped and destroying everything and slowing me down.  Even tried disabling the touchpad altogether but it keeps on working.  Whats wrong? What can I do to reverse this ? I'm on windows 8 pro of course

Answer:Can't disable the tapping on the touchpad or even the touchpad itself on the T430u?

What I do is install ThinkPad touchpad driver and uninstall thinkpad touchpad utility.  You may need to go to an older version of the driver, as Lenovo obviously doesn't bother with regression testing when releasing updated drivers.

Just reinstalled WinMe on a compaq armadaE500. There is nothing in the control panel to disable tapping on the touchpad, probably because I didn't have the Compaq install CD. I just used a generic windows version.
Is there any other way to disable this annoying feature? My fingers are far to bulky and clumsy and it seems like the touchpad is really sensitive.

Answer:Can't disable tapping on touchpad

The touchpad is controlled by the mouse drivers. I'm not sure what the tapping activates but you may find something in Control Panel>Mouse options that would make it less sensitive.

How do I disable the "tap to click" function on the touchpad?

I've done it before, but it stopped working properly and I had to reinstall it a couple of days ago, with default settings. I'm stumbling around in the dark now trying to disable the annoying "tap to click" function.

Answer:Re: Satellite L - How to disable tapping on touchpad?

I don?t know what Satellite notebook and OS do you have but on my Satellite L300 I can disable the tapping function in this way:

1) Go to control panel > Mouse > device settings
2) Select the touchpad and click on ?settings?
3) On the new window you must only click on tapping and then remove the mark on ?Enable Tapping?.

That?s all! :)

In Windows 8 the option is called SmartSense. Disabling this worked for me.

Press Win+W to bring up Settings Search
Type "synaptic"
Double Click "SmartSense"
Slide the Slider all the way to "Off"
Click "Close" and then "OK"

This will Disable the Anti-Palm detection which prevents simultaneous Keyboard and Mouse use. I recommend you re-enable this feature when you're not gaming as otherwise you risk problems while typing.

I'm trying to adjust touchpad settings on my Sony Vaio VPCSC laptop. Specifically I'm trying to disable the touchpad while typing and also disable or adjust the tapping feature.

In control panel -> device settings -> mouse there is no option to disable tapping or disable the touchpad while typing. I've tried the Sony update utility, I've tried downloading the Synaptic pointing device drivers directly from their website (older ones and the latest ones), and I've even tried loading other brands of drivers. I've spent hours researching this problem with no solution. I finally got frustrated and took my computer back to best buy "geek squad", they told me there is no way to disable tapping in Windows 7 (LMAO, what a joke). Then I took this computer to a Sony store and had a tech spend about 30 minutes on this to fix this "simple problem" (that's what he called it). Again, no luck, he ends up telling me there is no way to disable tapping on this laptop.

I'm very frustrated with this problem, I think there must be a way to simply disable tapping and also disable the touchpad while typing, since I see these features on every single other laptop I've ever looked at. Can anyone help me with this problem? Thanks!

There is a slider in Mouse & Touchpad Settings | Additional Mouse Options | ClickPad Settings | SmartSense that appears (from the little video in the settings) to disable the disabling. - I've tried that, but it doesn't appear to make any difference - Interestingly, the setting turns itself back on after a restart - I've been through three chat sessions with HP support, they've tried reinstalling the driver, apdating the driver, and in one anoying session, disabling the touchpad entirely and restarting - I'm wondering if there is another windows based setting for this fuction somewhere I'm missing, or if this is just broken

Windows 7 laptop (Lenovo) 64 bit.

I want to stop all the extra features of the Synaptics touchpad on my computer but still be able to use the pad as mute. I mean, I don't want the pointer to grab onto objects and open links or do anything unless I click on that object. I don't like all these new features and don't know how to stop the pointer from opening links. It also opens and closes apps. I went into the mouse properties and disabled all the features but the mouse still has a mind of its own. Is there any alternatives? I don't want to only use an external mouse as I often use the laptop sitting on a couch and a mouse is not convenient.

In Windows 7 I downloaded the latest driver from Synaptics and it gave me the option to disable the touchpad. However nothing I do has allowed me to do the same thing in Windows 8. I never get the touchpad icon in the system tray. When I go to the Mouse device in device manager it shows the touchpad as another device but the "disable" button is grayed out.

I am using an Acer Aspire notebook.

I have gone through the process of disabling tapping. Sometime later the cursor will send me some place unexpected because tapping has returned. Usually if I go to Settings, Devices, Mouse & Touchpad, additional mouse options, that stops the tapping. Occasionally I have to go to the Elan tab and Options before it will go away. The "tapping" box is not checked. Driver is up to date. I've tried a bunch of different things - disabling the touchpad, reinstalling the driver. I can't find anything in my Internet searches for this issue.

Answer:Elan touchpad randomly activates tapping after I have disabled tapping

There is usually a touchpad icon in the Taskbar. If you right click it you get options. One of those is "Tap to Click".
Have you tried unchecking that there?

Hello,
I recently reinstalled my touchpad driver because they had stoped working for some reason.
And Ow ow surprise.
Now the "fn+F5" hotkey doesn't work anymore, but I can enable/disable my touchpad by double taping the top left corner. OK why not.
What's annoying me is the really bright white led indicating when the touchpad is disabled. It really attracts the eyes.

Is there a way to disable it please ? (even if it means disabling the "double tap corner" shortcut, and find a way to reinstall the "fn+F5" shortcut)

I feel silly for posting to ask this - but I have spent an hour trying to sort this out now and am at the point of banging my head against a wall!

How do I disable the touchpad click feature on my laptop mouse.

I have an Advent 5301 and the touchpad is synaptics.

In "Mouse Properties" there are no options regarding the touchpad at all. Please do not tell me to go there. I have been there and I have looked thoroughly through every part of it. There are no touchpad options.

I tried downloading a driver by going here: http://www.synaptics.com/resources/drivers - but that just stuck me with a program called Scrybe, which did not appear to do anything at all.
It took forever to download and install, so when it was finally done and after all that proved to be useless I uninstalled it out of rage, and now I just get errors if I try and install it again. I only try to do so as I am at a loss as to what else to do.

Could someone please find me a link to the driver for my laptop? I have looked but I'm drawing a blank right now.

Please help before I go insane!

Usually,when you install a synaptics touchpad driver,it
will put a synaptics control panel in the windows control panel
and sometimes an icon in the taskbar where settings can be accessed.
Just look for tap settings.

No option to disable your Synaptics Touchpad when you plugin a USB mouse? The function is there but is disabled in the registry. Click the link and scroll down to message #9. Make the change, reboot and the auto disable works immediately if you have a USB mouse plugged in. Making the change in HKLM didn't work for me but HKCU did the trick. Navigate to the Synaptics settings page and the option to disable is now there. No credit due here, just passing it on to help others.

Tab click means that a click on the touchpad works like an click on the left mouse botton. The Synaptics driver should support an disable function. But this feature is not integrated in the driver i can download for the N200.  And install the driver i can download from the Synaptics themself will disable the working of the whole touchpad. Does anybody know where to get an driver for the touchpad which work on N200 an allow to disable the tab click function. TIA Andreas Riedel

HI
Anyone any idea how to get the " Auto Disable Synaptics Touchpad when USB Mouse is connected" feature active again.  I found an old entry in a forum that referenced changing a setting in Registry to Hex 33 and implied that this would make the OPTION become visible in the Mouse settings in Control Panel.  But  it appeared to simply disable the touchpad ALL the time.So I assume Synaptics have changed things since this 'fix' was posted in 2009 I think. .
I have W7  XPS,  and Driver version 15.3.22.0 for Synaptics Touchpad.  Cheers

Answer:Auto Disable Synaptics Touchpad when USB Mouse is connected

SOLVED SOLVED SOLVED!!!

All - I've read through this and many forums and have found no solution. I figured it out on my own, so I am happy to share with you!
This solution applies to those who do not have a touchpad disable button on an F key at the top of your keyboard and have the Synaptics driver that does not show the option to disable the touchpad when the external device is present. This also applies to those where the registry key update does not work (as it did not for me).
Here's the solution.

1. Go to the Dell website and get the latest driver for your touchpad. Install it.
2. Once installed, go to c:\program files\synaptics\syntp in your windows explorer.
3. Open the program called DellTpad.exe (there is also one called DellTouchpad.exe -- don't use this one)

4. Once open, click Device Settings.

5. And voila, the old checkbox is there at the bottom! Just click to make this active and it works like a charm.

I would have posted this here click here , but the thread's now locked.
I disabled the touchpad in the BIOS a week or so ago, and so far so good. I hadn't noticed that setting existed, but stumbled on a mention on the web somewhere. I don't know about other manufacturers, but in my Vista Packard Bell Easynote it's 'Internal pointing device', and is in the 2nd, 'Advanced' page of the BIOS (reached via F2 during boot).
I imagine bios settings are out of reach of unwanted interference from software updates etc? (I'll find out, I guess!).
At least it's removed a niggling doubt, of possibly being locked out of the computer if something happens to the mouse, as the touchpad can then be re-enabled using the keyboard. For this reason, I've now re-installed my Synaptics driver and left it 'enabled' in its own settings. So far, the BIOS setting's overruling the Synaptics one. (And it's nice not getting those irritating Synaptics popups telling me I've plugged in a mouse!).

Hi, I originally posted this problem on Tech Help but it was perhaps a bit verbose.
I have an HP Stream 11 which I recently updated to win 10.
Since then the touchpad does not work at all.
Following HP advise I removed the existing version of the software and tried to install the recommended version which fixes this issue.
The software downloads and says it has successfully installed.
Unfortunately it has not. The created synaptics folder only has two files in it. On my HP 15 the synaptic folder is full of files.
I've tried installing back versions, versions for other make laptops all to no avail.
I've spoken to HP at length but they seem unable to offer a solution.
Most of HP's suggestions involve 'Uninstall the software' I can't its not there.
'Go back to a restore point' I can't there are no restore points it being a new win 10 installation.
I'm really looking for pointers as to what to try next, I even deleted all the synaptics registry entries, thinking there may be a value in there which is prohibiting installation.
Any suggestions welcome, Thanks Al

Just got an X1 Yoga 2nd Gen.  Pretty great except I see that WmiPrvSE.exe is constantly using 1-4% CPU in task manager. After digging I discovered this is due to the following query being executed by SynTPEnh.exe when it starts up: SELECT * FROM __InstanceCreationEvent WITHIN 1 WHERE TargetInstance ISA 'Win32_Process' This query string can be seen in the SynTPEnh.exe binary file via SysInternals procexp or strings tools. The query executes once every second indefinitely.  This seems minor but bad for battery life, but also seems unnecessary for touchpad functionality. I took a look at the reference SynTPEnh.exe that comes from Synaptics own website.  It does not contain the query string and so presumably does not rely on WMI for any functionality.  However the software on Synaptics appears to be old, from August 2015, so it is unclear if Lenovo or Synaptics has added the query since. What's up with this?  I'd like to not have my CPU used every second always, but I would also like my touchpad to function correctly.

Answer:Synaptics Touchpad software makes 1 sec polling WMI query causing constant CPU utilization

Thank you for this problem report and sorry that I didn't notice it earlier.  We will check on this.  Sorry for the inconvenience.

I am running Windows 10 on an Acer and recently downloaded and installed the update for the Synaptic touchpad (January 17, 2017).  After rebooting my laptop, I can use the touch pad to move the cursor when logging in, but once the system as loaded,
I cannot move the cursor using the touch pad.  I can left-click and right-click, and shrink and expand on the touch pad, but have no control over the cursor.  I currently have a mouse attached to the computer in order to move the cursor.
When I click on the link for more information about the update, there currently is no information.  Quite frustrating.
Please advise as how to resolve this issue.
Thank you.

Question: disable tapping

My daughter has a Samsung QX410 running Windows 7.

There is a box in the touchpad properties that will enable her to disable tapping, but it is always re-enabled when she restarts the laptop.

Is there a way to change the startup default and prevent that from happening?

Thanks

Answer:disable tapping

Try starting the PC in Safe Mode (F8 in the boot screen). If this disables the tapping, the issue is likely an add-on program enabled at startup.

To disable the program run MSCONFIG , go to the startup tab and uncheck the touch point program (this will not uninstall it; it will just keep it from loading automatically at startup).

Hope this helps.

The Yoga is my 1st Windows machine in years. Coming from various MacBook(s) Pro(s) I dearly miss the capabilities and configurability of Apple's multitouch touchpad. While responsibility of the Synaptics device is fairly decent I haven't found an experience that is anything close to the one perceived on the MacBook touchpad. Latter in combination with BetterTouchTool is my weapon of choice when it comes to productivity. It offers almost unlimited configurability, that is, I can design/configure any gesture I desire and link it to a keystroke for instance. It's just perfect since I am not into Apple's predefined gesture settings at all. Now I have spent endless hours in getting this back on my new Yoga. At least I am now able to use 3 finger swipes for back/forward navigation. However, this is just a fraction of what I need/want. That's why I am looking for a way to either be able to modify the driver myself (open source, Lenovo/Synaptics?) or get access to an API I can build on. Obviously I'd prefer latter option. Synaptics is touting their Gesture Suite but I cannot find a download somewhere. I'm afraid it's OEM only. And if that's the config app that comes with the standard Synaptics driver it's just pathetic. So does anyone have a clue on how we can significantly improve the performance of this otherwise very nice laptop? Thanks in advance, stfn

Answer:Yoga 13: any chance for open source Synaptics touchpad driver or touchpad API?

hi stfn-64,my personal opinion on this case, i don't think either lenovo or synaptics will share the main source codes with you or anyone else.at this point, i suggest you to try to update drivers synaptics. it may solve your issue.hope this helps.

I'm trying to figure out how to disable tapping on the touchpad on my T61.  I can't seem to get to the configuration for the touch pad.  I've tried installing the UltraNav driver and utility that I found on the lenovo site.  (e.g. http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-67226).  The driver seems to be installed according to the windows device manager, but when I try to run the utility (UNAVOSD.exe) it says "UltraNav Driver is not installed".I'm not even sure if that utility is what I want to be using, as on other machines the synaptics configuration appears in the Mouse control panel, but on my T61 all I get is settings for sample rate, wheel detectection and input buffer length.Does anyone have some suggestions for what I should try next?

Answer:T61 touchpad, disabling tapping

This is manageable using one of the Lenovo made programs. Going by my memmory, unless you removed all the Lenovo stuff, there should be an icon in your tray. Right click it and go to properties. It brings up a window where you can enable/disable or set other properties for your touchpad. ---------------------------------Everything you need to know: www.maxi-pedia.com

Hi, I have been experiencing continual problems disabling the tapping on my T61's touchpad. I'm running XP and have been regularly forced to go into the Control Panel's Mouse settings to disable tapping on the Touchpad menu. Several times within a session, I've been forced to do this, because something seems to continually enable tapping. Can anyone suggest a remedy? I contacted Customer Service and was told that I would have to pay $99 to have them resolve the issue, since this was an out-of-warranty problem (not sure what that means, as the computer is less than 2 months old). Many thanks to anyone who can help.

Answer:Disabling tapping on Touchpad (T61)

This is not the best way to do it, but you can actually disable the driver from starting up with the system.  U will still be able to use the touchpad and buttons but tap will not work.  To do this, u will have to edit the registry:start menu > run > type: regedit [enter]browse: HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunFind entries starting with "Syn" as this relates to the synaptics touchpad.  Delete those entries. You will not longer be able to use the tap function until u re-install the driver. But then again, have u tried uninstalling and re-installing the driver?  That can help.

I see that you now provide Windows 7 drivers for Aspire V3-111P. However theres no touchpad drivers. I tried installing the windows 8.1 touchpad drivers and then drivers from Synaptics webpage but neither of them are good. They install but they add no options anywhere to disable tapping. And this touchpad is tapping everywhere all the time. Drives me nuts. Please provide better drivers with options.

Dear all,
Since yesterday, the built-in TouchPad mouse does not react anymore. In properties it says "the device is working properly", but it doesn't...
I am now using an external mouse.
How can I restore the TouchPad mouse? When I open the control panel, I get the possibility to uninstall the Synaptics driver. Should I?
Thanks for your help!

What notebook model do you have??
Please post this info always!!!

Regarding your issue;
Firstly you should try to remove the old touchpad driver and after you have downloaded the newest version of touchpad driver from the Toshiba European driver page try to reinstall it!

Should works?

Coming from an T400 and T430 I am used to perfectly working TouchPads. Aside with the keyboards this a major reason for me to buy premium priced Lenovos over other business lines. And I am using the TouchPad nearly exclusivly especially at clients places and on travels, which is 80% of my work. With the new X1 carbon (3448AW6) I encounter a highly annoying issue with ~70% failure in recognizing "tapping" as mouse clicks. Humid conditions feel worse in the beginning, which is mentioned by UltraNav documentation. After some observation I conclude it is pretty much the same in the very dry air of Europe winter. Issue description:Tapping on touchpad results in the mouse pointer wiggling a little to the left and right as if there was a tiny movement - and not tapping. Sometimes it wiggles and also recongnizes tapping but most of times it is not. With very firm tapping this can be avoided about 90% - but this is not an acceptable solution, the same with using the buttons from TrackPoint only.Modifying the "touch sensitivity" in the UltraNav settings does not result in any improvement over standard settings, which is surprising. I guessed the sensitivity would be the reason for all this. I want my reliable TouchPad behavior of the T4x0 series back. They were working reliably in humid SE Asia and all over the rest of the world. Has anyone an idea to fix this?

Answer:X1 Carbon TouchPad 'tapping' issue

Hi, ixomon

How long have you been facing this issue? I would recommend uninstalling the current driver and see if it is the driver that is causing the issue. This can be accomplished by navigating to Control Panel ? Device Manager. While in Device Manager, open the tree labelled Mice and other pointing devices. Right-click on the device and select Properties. Next, navigate to the Driver tab and click on Uninstall... at the bottom. This will uninstall the driver, which will allow Windows to install a generic driver. If the generic driver functions without issue, then I would recommend either trying to reinstall the UltraNav driver or giving the Synaptics base driver installed, which can be found here.

Hope it helps,
Adam

We have two of the Lenovo T61 notebooks running the UltraNav touchpad software.  Can go into the touchpad software and disable the tapping to click feature, but it always seems to reenable itself.  One reenables after undocking and then redocking; the other notebook just reenables itself after about 10-20 mins of usage.  Have gone through the steps of uninstalling/reinstalling the touchpad driver and software as well as installing updated versions with no success.  Is the only method of resolve to just completely disable the touchpad software from running on startup?Message Edited by john77 on 08-08-2008 12:49 PM

There as a thread on this but I'm posting a new on because that one is marked as solved, but it is not solved, the solution accepted there is a non-solution as far as I'm concerned (uninstall Ultranav and install software from Synaptics). The issue is, with touchpad enabled, and tapping disabled, at random intervals, it reenables itself. This is extremely annoying, especially as the tapping is so very sensitive and has no sensitivity adjustment, so one suddenly finds oneself accidentally performing actions as unintended click events happen. It is extremely random. Sometime months will pass without it reenabling itself. Other times it starts happening every day or so, and then will revert to behaving itself for another couple months. Docking and undocking seem to make it worse. Sometimes it seems it happens on unsleeping, but not always.  I have a T61, running Windows XP SP3. This problem has happened for me as long as I've had this laptop, over a year, and across a number of UltraNav updates (as other system updates...I generally keep major components updated like BIOS, Powermanager, and Ultranav). PLEASE fix this, it's driving me nuts! Thanks, Eric

Answer:Touchpad tapping renables itself randomly

Similar problem - R61 on XP/SP3, Touchpad reactivates itself after "standby" and has now started to reactivate itself randomly.   Really really irritating.  I never use the Touchpad but there is no way to totally disable it.

It's Sept 2009 and I don't see a solution to this yet.  I just got a new T400 and the double tapping is driving me nuts too and won't stay disabled.  My "old" T40 was fine - I disabled it and it never came back on again. Who is running this forum?  Are there any lenovo people here to answer these questions?  I would very much like to disable this "feature".  I've tried in control panel/mouse.  I looked at the bios and disabling the entire ultranav was the only option there and I don't want to do that.

While there are a few Lenovo employees roaming around in here helping out on a volunteer basis, this is not an official support channel with dedicated Lenovo support personnel assigned to it. Instead, this is designed to be a user-to-user support and discussion forum. You may or may not get an answer directly from one of the Lenovo employees as there are way more of us than them and all of them, even Mark, have full-time jobs doing other things.

On my HP laptop, updating its Synaptics touchpad driver fixed that exact problem. Elantech may have a similar update. Check laptop mfg's site first, Elantech's site second.

(Note: it is possible that there is a driver update which addresses the issue but makes no mention of the fix in the description. Be sure to create a Restore Point before applying [any] update!)

After reinstalling the driver and updating the BIOS, I still have this problem: When I go into the Synaptics Clickpad settings, I want to set the click actions as follows: 1 finger left click, corner tap right click, and 3 finger middle click. The Configure buttons next to each option are grayed out, but I can still choose these from the dropdown menus. But when I click Apply and Ok, 3 finger tap brings up Start instead of middle click, and when I tap the corners nothing happens. So I changed 2 finger tap to be middle click instead of right click, and after I did that, it still interpreted 2 fingers as right click.  I tried to make 3 fingers the Back button, and it still gave me the Start menu. I tried looking in the registry, but I don't know what the values mean to change them.

Minor issue - but annoying....I like to use the touchpad to move the mouse, but I don't like the 'tap to click' feature, so I uncheck the 'enable tapping' option in the UltraNav mouse driver. Life is good. Then ... every few days ... after I wake my computer (I am lucky and don't need to reboot often .... I usually put the computer to sleep when moving the computer)....  I find the the touchpad is acting as a 'mouse click' and when I go into Mouse control panel, I see that 'enable tapping' has a check mark ("tick" in English-English). I then uncheck this box, and everything works fine for a few days.I haven't been able to identify any specific action that causes this ... and the timing can be every couple of days ... then once every 2-3 weeks.Any ideas?

Answer:Touchpad 'enable tapping' randomly gets turned on

I have a w500 and experience a similar issue. I set the Ultranav to Tracpoint only and in a day or two both tracpoint and touchpad are active. My conclusion is it's an Ultranav driver issue. I may roll back the driver and see if it fixes things.

Satellite A200-1BW.

This has a Synaptics dual mode touchpad which swaps modes when you tap the top right corner - at least it used to! Upgraded to Win7 and had to do a clean install as I had Vista Ultimate 32 bit version.
Used the Tosh upgrade package but the touchpad driver only gave me basic functionality, not dual mode.

Looked around and installed Luxpad V6.5 driver 9.1.14 dated 02 Nov 2007. Played around a bit and got everything nearly normal but the pad does not light & change mode when I tap the top right corner despite the check box for this being ticked. It does light and function if I tick the second option regarding the external mouse etc.

Any ideas will be gratefully considered as I do tend to use this. Cheers.

hi,is your synaptics touchpad driver installed?if yes, you have to change the settings from Device manager-hardware and printers-mouse. After opening mouse properties go to "Device Settings" tab and click on settings. After that you have to open "Tapping" page and enable it if it is not enabled.  If you don't have the driver installed, you can download it from the link below and do the same things above if the problem persists. just chose the right operating system http://www.synaptics.com/resources/drivers

Hi, I am having a problem with my touchpad and Windows 10.  It started yesterday after my computer was frozen after startup and I couldn't access the login screen, so I reset my PC and kept my files.  After resetting and getting back to the desktop I found that If I either tap on the touchpad or do a quick swipe on the touchpad, Windows Action Center will pull up every time and I have to tap or swipe again for it to go away.  I never had the problem before resetting my PC and after speaking with Microsoft they claim it is a malfunction of the touchpad.  I've been searching online and see suggestions to disable 4 finger gestures to resolve the issue, however my laptop does not have 4 finger gestures.  I have reinstalled the driver for the touchpad and still have the issue.  I'm at a loss.Anyone familiar with this issue?  It has become increasingly frustrating and I'm hoping there's a solution.  Thanks!

I think this is nothing unusual because the touchpad area or corners can be configured randomly.
I recommend checking the touchpad configuration and if you want disable some ?annoying? functions or features.

The touchpad configuration should be found in the control panel -> mouse -> properties or advanced.
I cannot remember the exact way where to find these options.

Hi.

I have Toshiba Satellite A100- 13O purchased in Slovakia (I guess they have different numbering over here, as I have not found this model on your website) with Vista and Synaptics touchpad.

After one of the regular updates, the "disable tapping" option just disappeared from touchpad menu. When I go to the mouse properties and try to set the touchpad it gives me only right/left button options, but no "disable tapping" anymore. The Fn + F9 combination does not work either anymore.

I tried to uninstall and install the Synaptics drivers again, but nothing has changed. The touchpad is working fine, only the tapping is quite annoying. I am using mouse most of the time, but I do not want to disable the touchpad completely, because I need to use that sometimes too. I tried to search for an answer everywhere but it looks like nobody seems to have come with an answer to my problem. Thank you for your help!

Hi all,

I'm running latest Windows 10 64bit on E6430. Few days before, tapping on the touchpad stopped working - no click is produced. Everything else is working perfectly. The driver is the latest one from Dell.
When I returned to an old driver which does not support multitouch, clicking works, but this way I miss the multitouch...
I guest that this has been broken with the latest Windows updates.

What should I do to get my touchpad fully functional?

There are several other forums online about the same thing, and I felt Toshiba's was the best place to post the solution to the problem.

Problem description: Can not disable mouse tap to click feature in Vista. Synaptics driver has option to turn feature on and off but it is grayed out.

Other forums suggested uninstalling and reinstalling the Synaptics driver. Get the newest driver from Toshiba, or get the newest driver from Synaptics, but none of this worked for me. However, one did claim that the Synaptics driver from Synaptics.com worked for him/her.

Following is my solution posted on 2 forums on geekstogo.com (what kind of name is that anyway?):

I had exactly the same problem and I feel obligated to post the solution I found as it would have saved me hours, and maybe it will save the next person hours. I hope everyone else uses the same courtesy so forums like these are useful.

I have a solution but first let me vent. This problem was absolutely the most frustrating and stupid problem. Why would anyone who knows how to type want the to tap to click??? It is such a frustrating feature. On top of that, why would anyone developing software not give the user the ability to turn it off?? Synaptics old touchpad drivers for XP were 100 times better. I know for a fact that every time my computer turns off/restarts that the enable tapping button is selected again when I log back on. I am not 100% sure if this always happens after putting the computer to sleep/hibernating. I have tried updating the driver and reinstalling the driver to no avail. I would really like to fix this since the enable tapping function really annoys me while doing CAD work. Does anyone know how to fix this? I am running a T420s with Windows 7.Let me know if you need any more computer specs.

Answer:Touchpad reverts to default settings (enable tapping problem)

Disable the touchpad in the BIOS.  Restart.  Shut down, restart and open BIOS and re-enable it.  Does it behave then?

For several weeks now, I have been very frustrated in using my Thinkpad X1 carbon because when i tap the touchpad in the middle, the right mouse button click comes out. How do I disable this right mouse button effect? I would rather use the double finger tap to do the right mouse click function. I actually find this weird in the lenovo thinkpad X1 carbon, why the right mouse click is not in the lower corner of the touchpad.  This is really very disappointing and frustrating....

Answer:Tapping the touchpad in the middle brings out the right click button effect. How to remove this?

Hi Guys, really need help on this... Is this a trackpad defect or can i disable the right click on the trackpad or just have to live with this issue....

Question: Synaptics Touchpad

Hi. I'm having a problem with my HP Pavilion dv6000's touchpad. Recently (i.e. Today) it has been giving me an error and shutting down a program called "Synaptics Touchpad Enhancements", which has the adverse effects of slowing down the touchpad's sensitivity, and making the scroll bar on the side of the pad useless. Restarting solves this problem, but it occurs again after perhaps thirty minutes or so. I've already tried redownloading the drivers for it, but it hasn't solved the problem. In addition, upon selecting the mouse via the Control Panel, I'm confronted with this error. This problem has me stumped. Can anyone shed some light on what I could do to solve this?

Answer:Synaptics Touchpad

Hi,The issue you have mentioned and the error you attached clearly state that there is an issue with the Synaptics Touchpad drivers on the system. To resolve the issue, I suggest you uninstall the Synaptics Touchpad drivers completely from the system through Control Panel, Add/Remote programs (Win XP) or Programs and Features (Win Vista). After complete uninstallation, please restart the system. Download the latest drivers from the following weblink and then install the software. This will definitely resolve the issue.http://www.synaptics.com/support/driversHope this information helps.Regards,Vidya

So I am at the end of my rope with my laptop's touchpad. I can not disable the tap-to-click option, and because of this I am CONSTANTLY clicking on things every time I type or do anything.

Also, the scroll does not work.

I have searched through all of the mouse options and there is not one single option anywhere for tapping or scrolling.

I have updated the driver. I have uninstalled the driver and tried installing an older version of the driver. I can't find anything that will give me these options, no matter which drivers I install.

I am using Windows XP, on a Dell Inspiron 6000. According to the hardware tab, I am using a Synaptics PS/2 Pointing Device.

Please, please, PLEASE help! Please!

Answer:Synaptics touchpad - PLEASE help!

I am not a fan of the touchpads on laptops. I have always disabled them and used a notebook mouse instead. While this may make for some difficulty while traveling, I don't inadvertantly select, click or move the cursor while keyboarding.

I downloaded and installed the latest driver, just in case, but no change.

Question: Synaptics touchpad

I would like to mention that upgrading to Windows 10 on 2 HP laptops. On the one that is older which had the synaptics driver 15.3.29.0 the tapping worked fine, on the newer unit the driver was current with version 19. something. With attempting to adjust the synaptics using the up to date driver there was real no satisfaction. I deleted it and installed the 15.3.29.0 driver and it works great..

Hope this helps someone...

Answer:synaptics ps/2 touchpad

You don't elaborate what your problem is ? is it working at all or is acting strange ?
Have you checked the BIOS to see if it's disabled ?
Otherwise, you may just have a bad piece of hardware there, take it to a shop and have them open it up and check.

I upgraded to Windows 10 perfectly but after i installed Windows 10 driver of Synaptics TouchPad 19.0.19.1 PS/2 on my hp pavilion dm4-1265dx from official Synaptics webpage, everything works fine except one thing; Locking area on top left of the touchpad. Normally when you touch on it twice, the red led has to lid and touchpad should be locked, however now; the red light is always on and i cannot lock it with double touch.

Hey, can I uninstall the synaptics touchpad in my laptop, and reinstall it again? Synaptics is not running on start-up but it is activated in msconfig, and CCleaner. Is it safe to uninstall and reinstall it again? If I uninstall it, will my touchpad still operate?

Answer:Synaptics Touchpad

Hi, kyzersoze.

You'll be fine. On my Toshiba, I've done it at least a half dozen times for various reasons - none which are important here.

Question: Synaptics TouchPad

I have a Synaptics TouchPad v11.0.7 on my HP Pavilion dv6000. I prefer a higher sensitivity on the pad, so I change the pointer options. However, after I restart my computer, the preferences reset to default. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the driver but the same thing continues. This is getting very irritating. I have no other mouse drivers on my computer and I am at a loss for a solution. I would much appretiate any help.

Question: Synaptics TouchPad

Hello,

Recently my Synaptics TouchPad suddenly stopped working on my Compaq M2000 laptop; I fixed the problem by re-installing the Synaptics driver. When I restarted the computer, the TouchPad was working fine, but the keyboard was not working at all, so now I cannot type in my password to log onto the computer.

Is there any way to solve this problem without having to format the computer?

Answer:Synaptics TouchPad

dont format. use a different comp, download (savepe) its a recovery program. you can run chkdsk from there. it will load its own drivers. savepe is a live xp cd.

Hello,
My problem is that after switching off the touchpad mouse some time ago, now I cannot switsh it on. Usually I use a normal mouse, as it is more convienient. But when I am out of home I surely would like to use the touchpad one.
When I try to habilitate it in the contral panel, it works for several seconds only. I tryed it with and without the normal mouse - no differrence.
My computor is Acer Aspire 5610, Windows XP. Never had viruses.
I have tried to download a new driver from the link I have found in this post:
http://www.aqua-soft.org/board/showthread.php?t=43310
and put it on the existing one - no result.
Maybe I should delete the old version driver and then put the new one?
In advance thank everyone for help.
Irina

Unable to use multitouch settings , not sure when this happened but it used to work fine and was able to scroll , 4 finger tap , 3 finger touch ect with my touchpad. Now the touchpad isn't reconised, instead ps/2 mouse pointer appears in the advanced settings under mouse and touchpad. I have tried updating software  driver and selecting synaptics drivers instead, but this also doesn't work. I get an error message saying 'This operation requires an interactive window station.' I have downloaded the latest synaptics driver from their site (Windows 10 PS/2 & SMBus Devices v19.0.19.1) still same error message. Thanks in advance, and if anyone can help with a maybe related problem , my keyboard will sometimes not function; correctly problem started not long ago either, maybe the same;  when pressing the letters 't', y, 5 ,6' this types instead 't5,y6, t5 ,y6' amongst other keys (makes typing very difficult haha)

Is there a real fix for the Touchpad? I went through an hour with HP support, who told me I had viruses and sent me to a fee-based support. I cleared my system myself and re-installed the driver, no luck. Finally just disabled the Touchpad and used a wired mouse. Issue solved.

i am currently having touchpad and mouse problems.i used my wireless mouse once and my trachpad stopped working compltetely.i have seen that this is a common problem but ive tried everything and nothing works. a hard reset worked once to get my mouse pad working again without the wirelss mouse but when i needed to click it was doing nothing. i have tried another hard reset but the mouse pad still didnt work. the mouse only appears when i plug in the wireless mouse in. when i go into settings there is not synaptics, so i downloaded synaptics for my laptop and it said "could not find OS specific program." so i unistalled the previous version, downloaded the version for my laptop but still said the same thing even though it was the version for my laptop.Any idea's????

Just Installed (clean install) Windows 7 64 bit on my laptop today, what a pain, tried an update first on my 32 bit but had problems so I decided to go ahead with installin 64 bit as my computer was compatible.

Anyway, got it installed and I'm re-installing my software.

Main problem is I can't seem to get a driver for my touchpad on my laptop which is a Fujitsu Siemens just over a year old. Fujitsu do not have 64 bit drivers but I got one from Synaptics.com which is supposed to be compatible and signed but when I try to run it I get the error message that it is not a Win32 app.

Anyone got an answer for me.

Answer:Synaptics Touchpad Driver

OK. Managed to find a driver which seems to work.
