Satellite keyboard/touchpad unresponsive

Question: Satellite keyboard/touchpad unresponsive

I apologize in advance if this has been answered elsewhere. I have Satellite a105-s2194. The keyboard and touch pad stopped working after I edited my registry to fix my dvd burner. I've tried a usb mouse. It shows up but also doesn't work.I can't do a system restore without a working mouse or keyboard so I'm kind of stuck.
I checked the BIOS and everything is as it should be. Keyboard works in BIOS and system utilities menus.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank!

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Satellite keyboard/touchpad unresponsive

BIOS provides USB support before Windows starts which is why it works in BIOS but not Windows.

I suggest the best place to start is recovering your files/folders. You can probably just skip to Step 2 for your case See How to recover your folders/files when Windows won?t boot

Then you can comfortably try fixing your computer (which might need a full reformat/reinstall)

Recently I have installed and uninstalled a program that was for transfering info from my PC to my Cell phone. Once it was uninstalled, and the PC restarted the next morning, the touchpad and keyboard of my acer Aspire 5100 have become unresponsive. I am using a USB mouse and keyboard and everything works great other than the sound. I checked my Device Manager and found exclamation marks by the following:

AMD Turion 64 [email protected] mobile tech TL-50(Processes)
Generic PnP Monitor(Monitors)
ATI I/O Comm Processor LPC controller, HD audio controller, UMBus Root Bus Enumerator(System devices)

I checked all exclamation marks for updates, no change.
There is a pop-up that states "No audio output device installed". I have preformed a system restore to a Week before the issue existed and it persists. At this point its just getting arrogant at the fact that I must carry around a usb optical mouse and a bulky usb Key Board.

Can Anyone Help? I'm Near Wits End!!

Hi everyone,

So I have multiple issues, and I'm wondering if there's a common hardware issue connecting them.

When downloading pretty much anything from the internet, any audio playing from any source will glitch and lag. It's a long, slow, very digital kind of breakup. I've reinstalled audio drivers multiple times, tried altering the priorities of various software, deactivating various features, with no luck. This has been the case for a while.

Then last week two things went wrong within a day of each other.

The touchpad left-button stopped working, as did the tap-to-click feature on the tracking pad. I can still use it to move the cursor and the right button still works too. It's not a sensitivity or button-assignment issue. Driver update was unhelpful.

Shortly after that, the keyboard began assigning multiple characters to certain keystrokes. It's inconsistent, I can write this mostly fine, but it seems to get worse when the CPU is under more stress. Trying to type an email when the 'O' button deactivates your wireless is pretty annoying.

I was thinking there might be an underlying hardware problem, since all attempts to fix these issues have been totally unsuccessful. I was considering buying and installing a new motherboard but they appear to be difficult to find for my model... I also have no idea if that would actually help.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Here's my vital info:

Answer:Audio breakup when online, partially unresponsive touchpad, dodgy keyboard. Why??

Welcome to Major Geeks!

Try going to the Malware Forum and running the steps in the "Read Me First" thread. It's possible this could be a virus/malware issue. In any case, it's much less expensive to rule this out before you start spending money on parts.

If this fails, backup your data and run the factory restore (shown in the BIOS startup screen) to restore Win 7 to its original settings.

Hope this helps.

Hi all,

I have a problem with my Synaptics Touchpad. I can always move arround with one finger, and the physical click always works too. However, with heavy disk usage (like when Windwos is installing updates, or Chrome is opening a gazillion tabs at once) the two finger scroll does not work temporarily. After the hard drive sucking program finishes its tasks, the mouse works fine once again.

Are there any solutions to this problem?

Answer:Satellite P50-B - touchpad scrolling unresponsive with high disk usage

The two finger scrolling is controlled by touchpad driver? in your case it seems to be the Synaptics touchpad driver.

I guess that the Synaptics process will be interrupted in case of heavy system and CPU load.
Usually this is nothing unusual? in many cases such short temporal interrupts may appear if notebook will be used under heavy load.

But I think you could solve this settings the synaptic process priority to an higher level.
Please check this nice HowTo change the process priorities in Windows Task Manager

I was having responsiveness issues with the trackpad for a while, then, i open my laptop one day and it's completely unresponsive, as well has the backlit keyboard not working (the hotkey still pops up that it's "lighting up" the keyboard, but no actual lights) and the trackpoint being completely unresponsive too. I've tried:- Restarting computer- Using Lenovo's various "fixing" softwares- Looking for a keyboard firmware shortcut for enabling/disabling trackpad, (doesn't exist on this computer)- Re installing drivers (Ultranav driver refuses to install manually, "driver installation failed")- Booting on a non microsoft OS (Booted on a linux Mint installation and it still doesn't work)- Booting into BIOS and looking for "enable/disable trackpad option", That option does not exist for me.- Opening up computer and checking the physical connection, All plugged in fine. When i open the device manager in windows there is no entry for the mouse whatsoever. The touch screen and the pen both work fine. I think it all points towards a hardware issue, i can pick up another trackpad on ebay for pretty cheap, but obviously i'd like to make sure that it would actually solve the issues.  The major confusion for me is that why would faulty trackpad hardware stop the backlit keyboard from lighting up? How are the two linked? Any ideas appreciated, Thanks!

Hello Everyone,

My problem started after updating windows 8.1 to windows 10, of course!
First the touchpad just stopped working, for no reason.

My solution was to uninstall the drive and restart the laptop. And from time to time I had to do this proceed. Two weeks ago windows updated, and the touchpad issue's gone. . Unfortunately, another one appeared.

The feature "mousekey", which is turn it on at ease access to use the numeric keys to use them as a mouse, It's turning itself on. And doesn't matter how many times I turn it off, few seconds and it's on again.

I've tried uninstalling the drive, which after windows the last updating was "ELAN".

Then I replaced by the Toshiba drivers, which is "Synaptic", and uninstalled the drives ,the problem is the same. Because of that, I can't use my numeric key, which is annoying!! If anyone can come up with something I will be grateful.

The Keyboard doesn?t work.
I see the light but no key worked. The same with the touchpad.
I can?t go into the Bios.

When I plug a USB mice and keyboard in works fine.
I search for a new one in Ebay. The cheapest offer 24$+6$!

I see in the Windows system the keyboard and touchpad with a !
I don?t know what the problem is but it is not a Windows prob.
it doesn?t work either in Bios.

Thank you for Help

Answer:Satellite A80-154 - Keyboard and Touchpad don't work

It looks like a hardware problem.
If the warranty is valid you could contact the ASP in your country for a hardware check.

If the warranty is not valid you could firstly check if the keyboard cable was connected to the motherboard properly.
If it?s connected properly then a keyboard malfunction is possible and it would be advisable to check if a replacement would help to solve this issue.

The compatible parts can be ordered also from the ASP in your country.

What can I do ?

Answer:Satellite A10-S177 touchpad and keyboard don't respond

Sorry mate but I don?t understand how you have updated the keyboard driver?
The keyboard driver is a part of the Windows OS so it cannot be updated manually?

Check if you can boot in safe mode.
Press F8 and then choose safe mode. Then you can try to reverse the OS back to the early time point before the OS has been muddled up.

There are no many options which could solve this problem.
It can be a hardware problem or software related issue.

Can you use the internal keyboard within the BIOS?
Check this.
If this would not be possible, I assume the hardware is faulty.

Additionally I recommend testing the keyboard and touchpad using the factory settings.
Recover the notebook and check if the keyboard would functions?. Otherwise you will need an helps from an notebook technician in order to replace the keyboard and touchpad

I can't seem to find a way of fixing this or the cause of the problem.

Here it is:

I haven't had the laptop for that long and already thinking it is a terrible thing. When I start my laptop there is like a 70% chance of the keyboard not starting (this is up until it gets to the windows login) then around a 15% chance the touch pad wont start. If the touchpad wont start then I just shut down the whole laptop and start again but there is a chance with the laptop that if I use the on screen keyboard to login then the keyboard will start working again. (around 80% chance) I am getting sick of it.

I probably should have written this in code.

Any ideas on how to fix this?

Note: I have tried uninstalling, reinstalling and rollback the drivers, even searching for the most current.

The laptop is just over 1 year old and has been working ok until recently.

First symptoms were keyboard and touchpad not working at windows 8 login page. Pressing power to put laptop in sleep and pressing again often got them working.

This progressed to the keyboard and touchpad not working at random points whilst using the laptop.

Finally blanked the HDD and restored windows 8 alone, the laptop still BSOD's fairly frequently - refuses to install updates required for 8.1 and the keyboard and mouse often do not work even in the BIOS setup page. I have reseated the RAM and HDD.

Running out of ideas, the keyboard and touchpad do work and so I would assume that their connections are OK - but frequently they just stop.

Any ideas appreciated?

I have a lots of problems with my Satellite A300D-11S (for Adriatic region).

I have Windows 7 Ultimate with installed all drivers from Toshiba site. Everything works perfectly .... but..

When I first time power-on notebook, graphic driver cannot initialize, keyboard doesn't work, and touchpad is froozen. In this situation I can use external USB mouse and keyboard, Internet (WLAN,LAN), Sound. When I reebot the system, Windows 7 loads and works perfectly and I can work 3-4 hours. After turning off notebook and power-on after 30 minutes, 1 hour, or 6 hours, problem is still present again :(

Then I reinstalled all system from zero, use newest drivers update and problems is still present. I tried this 3 times, but I havent got idea what to do. Sometimes when I close lid of my notebook, and later when resuming from stand-by touchpad and keyboard are frozen.

Notebook have warranty but last time, service replaced mainboard and Cpu. Maybe notebook is defective?

Thnx, and sorry about gramatic errors

> graphic driver cannot initialize, keyboard doesn't work, and touchpad is froozen. In this situation I can use external USB mouse and keyboard, Internet (WLAN,LAN), Sound.
For me it sounds like that just the internal input devices (keyboard and touchpad) don?t work anymore and they should be replaced.
What do you think about this?

You can contact your authorized service provider. They can exchange both parts for you.
Check this!!!

Regarding your display driver issue you should update the driver and install latest BIOS version.

I have a Toshiba A300 and I have Windows 7 Ultimate 32bits

Answer:Satellite A300 - touchpad and keyboard problem

According to your message you have to reboot the notebook in order to get the keyboard and touchpad working properly.
Possibly there is something wrong with the drivers for keyboard and touchpad?
As a first idea I would recommend to refresh the OS.
This means that you should check if a new OS installation could solve this problem.

Keyboard driver is a part of the windows OS so I think this should be checked.

I have problem with keyboard and touchpad. Laptop is Satellite A300-1G5

I have Vista home premium and when I power computer on, I must put password in user box then my keyboard and touchpad don't work.

In Bios my keyboard working but when Vista starts it does not.

How I solve this problem?

Answer:Satellite A300-1G5: Keyboard and touchpad do not work

First of all please check the device status in the device manager.
Please check if the keyboard and touchpad are listed correctly without any yellow exclamation marks.

But you should try to reinstall the drivers again even though the keyboard and the touchpad were recognized properly.
In this case I would recommend removing the keyboard and the touchpad from the device manager and then you should reboot the notebook once again.

After Vista has rebooted the both devices should be recognized again and should work.

Please check this!

Hey peeps, how are we all?

I have a funny problem here. the touchpad and keyboard do not work in windows or the BIOS, if I reboot the computer the same happens whether its just on battery or through the mains.

If I take the battery out then replace it and reboot the keyboard and mouse will work absolutely fine until I reboot it next (unless i remove the battery again).

Is there something that gets reset that would stop the touchpad and keyboard working?

Thanks alot,

Answer:Satellite Pro L40 Keyboard + Touchpad inop after reboot

That?s a strange issue.
Did you try to update the BIOS? Check if you use the latest version and update it if a newer version is available.

Generally it?s not easy to say what could cause this issue?
To be honest I never heard about a similar issue?

So check if an BIOS update will help to sort this out? if not I would recommend contacting the ASP in your country for a solution!

I own a sattelite C870-13E computer since august.

Yesterday for no apparent reason, my touchpad stopped working. (no, I didn't turn it off)
Not really bothered by it, i kept working on my computer for several hours.
It then occurred to me it might be a little bug, so I decided to restart my computer.

When it turned back on, not only my touchpad didn't work, now nothing on my keyboard responded, not a single key. I updated drivers, bios, ran a virus scan, rolled back my computer to a few days earlier, nothing helped.

The strange thing is that the keyboard still responds when i hold the 0, F1 or F8 keys, as well as enter and arrow keys to get in the menus before windows starts up.

Using those, i used the toshiba recovery to set the computer back to factory settings.
Despite all that, keyboard and touchpad are still out.
I really don't understand, since it works during startup it can't be actual materialistic damage!

Now i'm getting frustrated cause i have no more solutions and typing with on-screen keyboard is really slow! =p

Any help?

Answer:Keyboard and touchpad don't work on Satellite C870-13E

I think it?s a hardware malfunction because you already tried the system recovery and the keyboard does not work even if using factory settings.

But it would be interesting to know if the USB external keyboard would functions. Can you test this? In my opinion if the external keyboard would works properly, then this would mean that your internal keyboard is faulty and needs to be replaced.
I?m wondering if the touchpad fault is related to the internal keyboard malfunction.

However, I think the warranty should be still valid if you purchased this unit in August. So get in contact with service and the guys should fix it free of charge!

I'm guessing it was something to do with what i just installed but i don't really know where to start. I have a usb mouse and a spare keyboard so am able to use the laptop but would be very grateful for any help fixing it.

Before we start the discussion one question: do you have problem with FN keys only or you cannot use whole keyboard?
What is with touchpad? Is touchpad maybe disabled? Have you installed Synaptics touchpad driver?
It is really not easy to say what is going on there but maybe you should install recovery image and test functionality with ?factory settings?. I mean with clean OS installation everything should be OK. If not there must be some hardware problem.

antivirus Kaskpersky deleted "system32/driver/cekbfilter.sys" file for keylogger reason (Kaspersky Support said It is mistake of Kaspersky antivirus, file is not virus or virused), and after I restart OS I find keyboard and touchpad not working at all.

Also I already asked about this at [US Toshiba Forum|] and there was advise to ask here too

I can not use Windows recovery (do not have recovery point) , and I do not want to do full recovery to factory default - there are many soft and personal data stored.

So Is here way to recover drivers? As I already said at US Toshiba Forum - I already tryed delete touch pad driver and instal from Synaptic official website, and I not changed anything.

Also I think antivirus may delete not only file, but do some fixes to remove "wrone" driver

Answer:Re: Satellite C660 - keyboard and touchpad are not working

Huh it is very stupid situation now. I never had such problems but it will be interesting to find solution to this.

Have you tried to connect external mouse, just to see if this can work? I mean it is much easier to use windows with mouse and choose different options.

If this works try to open device manager and properties for keyboard. There you can find option for driver update. Check if some driver update can be found. Fact is that keyboard uses standard Microsoft driver so f you are online maybe some driver can be found.

Of course best and easiest solution for you is recovery installation. If you don?t want to do this try to find right drivers using such driver update option.

One more thing: if you have so important stuff saved on HDD you can remove it from your notebook and connect it to other PC/notebook as external device and make backup. After doing this you can install recovery image and problem is solved.

Also, the notebook has started to heat up recently, especially around the touchpad's place.

My daughter's Toshiba Satellite Pro A100 has developed a couple of faults.

Firstly, the keyboard displays random characters such as a stuck key would. eg, if in Google or Wordpad the system will at random type a single character over and over again even when no key is pressed. Occasionally it will also open windows or programs as if the 'enter' key has been pressed, or cycle through desktop icons.

Secondly, the touchpad is non-responsive and cursor operation isn't possible from the touchpad or buttons. I don't know if the two are related.

She assures me she hasn't spilled anything on the laptop, so any help would be appreciated to rectify these faults.

Hello Guys

My Keyboard & touchpad stopped working today.
Its a Satellite L750D Part # PSK36A-009008 Serial # 7B339221W

I've tried a restore to a earlier date

Can anyone help

Answer:Satellite L750D - Keyboard & touchpad stopped working

Sounds like hardware problem.
Try to set the notebook back to factory settings. I guess you would need to use an external USB keyboard in case the internal keyboard does not work.

Here an instruction how to perform a System Recovery?

Feedback would be greatly appreciated

Hi Toshiba Fans,
I got some very odd problems. The keyboard works in the BIOS but later on, after windows 7 64bit booted only if I go in sleep mode and awake.
Why is that?
The touchpad is not working at all, neither the pad, nor the buttons. I have activiated it with the little black button above the touchpad.

Hi folks, I'm new here and hope you can help me.

I have a Satellite L750D here which has a strange Keyboard/touchpad issue.

Recently my screen has been replaced and I toke the opportunity to replace the DD with a SDD.

I used the OS restore cd's which I created from the recovery partition and completely reinstalled Windows 7 64-Bit from those.

Everything seemed to work well until after the last reboot.

Then my after reboot, the keyboard wasn't working and neither the touchpad.
I tried rebooting / shutting down and starting again, no change.

I connected an USB keyboard and mouse, both work perfectly.

I reinstalled the touchpad drivers from the Toshiba website, still no change.

I then closed the lid and let the notebook go into sleepmode/hibernation and found that when I opened the lid/screen, that the keyboard was working again, but not the touchpad.

Fn-F9 made no difference.

I then pressed the button above the touchpad, but the touchpad remained dead. But after pressing that button, the keyboard went dead too!!?
Switching the button for the touchpad on/off made no difference, both keyboard and touchpad remained dead.

Rebooting made no difference either.

Throwing away the drivers in safe-mode led the drivers to be reinstalled, but both keyboard and touchpad remained dead.

The only thing to bring the keyboard back to life is closing the lid and going to sleepmode/hibernation and reawakening the notebook.

But press the button above ... Read more

Answer:Satellite L750D - Strange Keyboard/touchpad issue

I connected an USB keyboard and mouse, both work perfectly.

This is really strange… from my point of few, if the external keyboard and mouse works properly, then the controller should be OK, and this would mean that the malfunction must be related to the faulty keyboard / touchpad.

But at the other hand, you said that the keyboard works properly booting from Linux Live CD.
To me this makes no sense and I’m confused…

Anyway, since the notebook has been disassembled in order to replace the screen and other parts, I think something went wrong during this procedure and probably a part was affected…

In my opinion it’s advisable to replace the keyboard and to check if it will fix the issue.

this laptop Satellite L300D is not even a year old and it is giving me a heck of a lot of issues.

About 3 times a week the touchpad will just stop working (after going around crazy & clicking stuff on its own)
When I plug in a mouse it works.

Today the keyboard gave up, after a re-boot it will allow me to type in my password but after that its dead.

Please help.

Answer:Satellite L300D touchpad and keyboard wont work at all

Did you install mouse drivers for your external mouse? Sometimes they can cause problems with the internal touchpad.

Otherwise you should send the laptop to an Authorized Service Partner to get it repaired under warranty.

I have a Toshiba Satellite A110, bought a couple of months ago. In the last few weeks it has started randomly locking the keyboard and touchpad (with or without external mouse plugged in - though external mouse always works).

Now there are power up issues, with the system hanging at the Toshiba Bios screen, may fully boot up maybe one time in five.
Wireless network acquisition is also very temperamental. I have tried everything software I can think of (new drivers/virus scan/uninstall-reinstall), with the exception of a full Toshiba back-up disk reinstallation.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Answer:Satellite A110: keyboard, touchpad, power-up issues

I think we should firstly find out if the issue is software or hardware related.
In this case the installation of the OS with the Toshiba recovery CD is recommended.
After the installation the notebook should works without any troubles.

But if the unit will hang and will not boot properly than there could be something wrong with the hardware.
I think your warranty is valid and in such case you should always contact the ASP in your county for a checking.

Hi everyone.

I was hoping someone could help me with a problem I'm having with my Satellite 5200-802. The Keyboard will not work evn though it shows in device manager and report it as working fine. I have updated the BIOS and tried a lot of other basic stuff so any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

It may be worth mentioning that I also cannot get my touchpad driver to register.

Many thanks.

Answer:Satellite 5200-802: Keyboard and touchpad dont work

Do you get an error message or do you have any bed signs on the screen?
Can you use the keyboard to access the BIOS?
If yes then the keyboard was recognized and works!

If you cannot use the keyboard running OS then I would recommend to delete the keyboard device from the device manager and to restart the notebook.
After new OS reboot the keyboard should be recognized again.

But I think that you will be not able to access the BIOS.
Due to the fact that the touchpad does not work too, I presume the hardware is faulty or there is no connection to the motherboard. Maybe a lose cable?

Maybe you should check this. But note; if you have no experience contact the notebook technicians. Bye

When the machine boots to windows I have no keyboard or touch pad. I have keyboard function at post long enough for me to hit f2 and get to the CMOS settings, after that I lose keyboard, except for using the function key and f4 to change monitors,

On boot up I can turn number lock on and then nothing again. I have tried resetting the CMOS, o have tried pulling all the cards like wireless and modem, tried different sticks of ram and even pulling the hard drive. If you have any thoughts or have seen this before please clue me in,

After one month of normal usage one of my school's L300's keyboard and touchpad stopped working. It was reported to me and on the advice of our technician I used the cure disc to reinstall everything back to original state. However, this did not solve the problem. Now I need to go through the normal setup screens and am required to enter a user name which I cannot do! This means I cannot check the drivers etc. The keyboard works fine when in BIOS, but not once windows boots up.

I assume that you checked if the tablet has been connected properly to the keyboard docking.

Did you try to disconnect and connect the docking again?
Note: there is a release latch on the left which you have to move and hold in order to remove the tablet.

Maybe there is some connection problem.

I purchased a new C850-1G3. Touchpad doesn't work well, sometime stop to working (also during Win8 first installation). The keyboard has bad feeling: very very flexing (like netbook of some year ago).
Feels cheap.

What do you think about? Touchpad stop working is normal?

Answer:Satellite C850-1G3 touchpad stoped working - keyboard very flexing

>Feels cheap.
The Satellite C850-1G3 is a cheap notebook. You can get it for about 370 Euros.

>Touchpad stop working is normal?
Even if the notebook is cheap, the touchpad should work properly.

But what do you mean exactly by stopped working?
Can you enable or disable the touchpad by pressing Fn + F5 (or just F5)??

Did you try to modify the touchpad settings? (can be found in control panel -> mouse -> last tab ?pointing device -> settings?)

Satellite A210 less than 12 months old.

2. Does not always boot from battery as it is continually flat. Laptop went to ASP who replaced motherboard (again) and put new battery. Now it is always best to run the laptop from the power adaptor as the battery is still losing charge. If unplugged from mains supply battery goes flat over night????

3. Refused to boot up with the power button, talked to ASP who advised to reformat PC - did that but problem still remained

4. Reformatted lots more times and in end sent back to ASP as now the keyboard did not always work either. ASP replaced the motherboard (that is now the third one) but hasn't resolved the problem, and the keyboard. Battery still not holding charge

5. On day that I got A210 back, touchpad didn't work. Talked to ASP who gave me lots of options to try, including turning it off and waiting for 30 minutes, which did nothing. Sent it back to ASP who says there is nothing wrong with it?????

How can I resolve the power on and touchpad issue?
Have given up on the battery and the speakers
Maybe someone other than the ASP can give me an answer please. All I want is to be able to use my laptop and have it do all the usual things that a PC does, sound, keyboard, battery operation and not always have to put in a USB mouse.

Hello everyone!

I've had my laptop for a while but I've never actually had the time to take care of the problems that came with it.

Ever since I've gotten it, all the way in July, my touchpad wouldn't work properly.
As simple as that. It would work for a couple of seconds at startup, then it would just get stuck in scroll mode.

My keyboard sometimes just stops working after a long while of using my laptop.

When my laptop shuts off after I'm away from keyboard, after turning it back on, the screen is black.
Each time I need to close it, let it go into sleep mode, then reopen it in order for the screen to display everything.

I have no idea why, also, but all three of my explorers are very buggy. Chrome, Mozilla and IE.
My videos just randomly stop, reload and rebuffer with much lower quality.
They like to close for no reason too. When I'm browsing a page as simple as Facebook, I get framerate issues, I can't scroll down properly as when I do, I find myself skipping through sections because it's that buggy.

Can someone help? Thanks.

Answer:Satellite L50D-B-131 - multiple issues: touchpad, keyboard, internet

Guess what?
It?s hard to believe that all this issues would be related to one ?general? problem.

For example the described internet explorer issues sounds to me like a slow internet connection. Probably the internet browsers are not able to load all the video data (probably in HD resolution) and therefore the video start to play using lower resolution.

The touchpad supports some additional features which could be configured within the ELAN settings. (control panel -> mouse -> ?ELan? settings in last tab)
If you don?t use all the touchpad features, I would recommend you to disable the options in the Elan configuration menu.

Some issues sound also like the system would be locked for a short time.
Why? I?m not quite sure about that but maybe some application run in the background and lock the system for a while.

I?m wondering if you already tried to recover the notebook back to factory settings.
If not; try it out. Feedback would be appreciated.

On my Sat P100 PSPA6A, around 50% of the time, the keyboard and touchpad do not respond properly. By this I mean:
- mouse tracks jerkily and slowly across screen
- keystrokes lost

Both these symptoms occur at once - it's never one or the other. Sometimes a restart fixes it, sometimes it doesn't. It occurs after a fresh Windows install and with all Toshiba drivers as-new so it's not software or a virus. It's not related to overheating, as it can occur from startup after an overnight power-off. It's even occurred on two machines of this spec (one got RTMd and replaced under warranty) so it's not just some weird quirk on this one and only machine that I have.

I'm at my wit's end with this. If it wasn't for this intermittant fault, I'd be very happy with this, but I'm on the verge of throwing it off a cliff. (Well, not really, but trading it in anyway.)

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Answer:Satellite P100 (PSPA6A) touchpad and keyboard slow/no response

Have you tried to update BIOS to latest version?
If I am remembering well such issues are fixed with BIOS updates.

One more thing: if this issue is still there, even after clean OS installation, it can also be hardware related issue. You know, it is not easy to give exact solution to this. Maybe you should contact nearest authorized service provider and let them check keyboard and touchpad using their diagnostic tools.

Dear all, first a bigh thank you for reading this, i am sorry that my first post in the forum is a cry for help.Had a ThinkPad Edge with windows 7 for a couple of months, and up until a week ago everthing was perfectly dandy. From then on, i experience very randomly (sometimes every 2 minutes, when i watch a movie not at all) occuring interludes of varying lenght during which my touchpad slows down a bit (while the external mouse is fined) and the computer stops registering key board strokes while pressing the mute, volume controll, mike controll and camera controll buttons above the number keys randomly. To round things up, direct links arent followed in mozilla anymore but the html is saved to my desktop and my system recovery points have disapeared (no idea if that is conencted thou). All very odd, and i have no idea where to start troubleshooting. Since i am currently working in cambodia, sending the thing in isnt really an option, antivir doesnt find anything and tomorrow i will reinstall windows and spray insectspray on the keyboard in case i have an ant infestation. sadly, during the writing of this article my keyboard has ceased all communication with me and i'm writing from a friends mac. If any of you have brilliant ideas or need more information about my sustem and such, please reply. Thanks a lot, will now watch house, at least that still worksJake

I bought an Acer Aspire E 15 (E5-571-7776) off of Amazon about a month ago, stated as in a new condition, uses Windows 8. Laptop, battery, power cords, instructions, nothing else that came with it that I remember of. After using it for some time, I soon noticed that the touchpad randomly becomes unresponsive for a brief moment. I try to move the mouse/click, but it doesn't respond, I move my hand away from the trackpad for a second, try again, and then it finally starts working. It's extremely annoying, and it has gotten in the way serveral times. There have been multiple times where I have been too late to click on something due to the mouse being unresponsive. I tried installing Synaptics drivers, but not suprisingly (To me), it didn't work. I've looked up this problem and have seen that people have had similar problems. The only answer other than installing drivers is to change the installation mode to UEFI. I have absolutely no idea what they're talking about. From the little information I am able to make out of the confusion, I'm guessing you're supposed to change the installation mode to UEFI while installing Windows 8. For one thing, I don't remember seeing anything relevant to that when setting up my computer, and I certainly cannot reinstall Windows 8 either. I don't have a Windows 8 installation disk, or if I did have the disk, I couldn't even install it anyway, seeing as how this laptop doesn't even have a disk drive, nor do I have an external disk drive ... Hi all, I have a laptop question.

My girlfriend's laptop touchpad has stopped responding completely, even if you reboot. The little synaptic icon on the system tray still shows up, but doesn't show any movement/touch from the touchpad. She wasn't too clear about when it stopped working, but she got some kind of message before it stopped, from avg apparently. Right now she's using a usb mouse.

I haven't actually tinkered around or looked for any solutions yet, but I was wondering if this is a common problem or if it's simple to fix. Maybe reinstalling synaptic? Anyone ever deal with this?

(I'm assuming that the touchpad isn't dead)

Answer:Unresponsive touchpad

hmm, go into hardware profiles (device manager), and see the touchpad listed there (if listed then with exclamation marks).

try removing it, and then right click computer name, and click scan for hardware changes. the possibility is, the driver got corrupted, usually a hardware scan fixes the problems. what make it is btw?

Ive a Dell Inspiron 5459 and I?ve been facing this problem of erratic cursor since the past week. My OS is windows 10 64 bit.  It started right after I had updated the bios and installed some security updates for windows. The cursor started lagging and malfunctioned so I just started with an external mouse.
However, today when I was just checking the updates and all, I happened to enter the bios and was kinda flabbergasted by the fact that the touchpad was fully functional and smooth inside the bios. This meant one thing: it wasn?t an internal problem, but prolly a driver issue.
I uninstalled the devices under mouse in the device manager and installed new Synaptics driver but that didn?t help. I uninstalled the updates that were recently installed and even downgraded the bios but all in vain. After all this, hoping against hope I decided to format and install a fresh copy of windows. That didn?t help either. Even with a fresh copy of windows, the cursor kept jumping from one point on the screen to another rendering the touchpad useless. It?s been almost an year to this laptop and I?ve never faced this issue before. Any sugggestions and solutions other than ?install latest drivers, uninstall old drivers? would be appreciated as I?ve already tried everything and searched a lot on the forums but haven?t found any significant solution.
Help.. please!

A few of the Probook 450 G1 laptops that we have here at my organization have shown signs of touchpad issues. The touchpad will often be unresponsive and sparatic. If trying to click, for some reason this will type the letter s on whatever field is highlighted. We have noticed this issue on more than one of this model of laptop. Here is a very unprofessional video of the issue. During the video, you will see that the curser will jump left and right very often and randomly. I at one point I typed a few lines of "asdf" to ensure that the keyboard is working; it was working properly. However, you will see later in the video that when I click the touchpad, it automatically types a few letter s's.  I did not type those myself. A restart will fix the issue, and it may not even happen again for months on end. When it does happen, its very hard for users to get past it. Even saving their work is interupted by the keystrokes that are brought on by this issue.

I've been dealing with a frustrating issue with my U310 Touch for a while now and thought I'd come here to see what else I should do or if anyone else has experienced this. Basically, sometimes I cannot move the mouse via touchpad. I don't have a bulletproof way to replicate the issue at will, but it seems that this comes up only when the system is being taxed. I think this is happening when RAM gets full, as if the touchpad driver is purged from memory and I have to wait for it to relaunch. I'm not sure. I have seen that there was a previously discussed issue like this when using Microsoft Office, but that is by no means the only time this happens. I generally observe this while using a browser only, though it certainly gets worse as more programs are in use. When this happens, there is usually first a period of lag system-wide, say because of a web page loading or something like that. This is very brief and acceptable since it is a mid-range machine. But everything else, including the touchscreen, will return to working order before the mouse bounces back. The pointer is visible but won't move and I can usually even input clicks, despite the fact it doesn't move. It will last from 15-60 seconds. I haven't figured out anything I can do that makes it come back, short of waiting. Because of the way it happens, I think it is a software issue. My spouse also has a U310 Touch and has the same problem. I have done a clean install of Windows, reinstalled drivers... Read more

Answer:Touchpad sometimes unresponsive - U310 Touch

I do not have a solution, but I too have this problem on my U410(non touch). It only happens once or twice a week so it doesn't bother me that much. I have to hibernate my laptop and turn it back on to fix the problem. I updated my synaptics drivers from 17.0.8 to 17.0.19 to see if that fixes it, but it doesn't happen that often so I can't get back to you for a while. Hopefully, someone knows what's causing the issue.

So yeah,
One night while my computer was running- IBM Touchpad Windows XP I think- I cleaned the keyboard off with an antispectic wipe before shutting it off. Then I shut it down via the start menu, and the next time I tried to turn it on it wouldn't respond, and it still won't.
What should I do?

when you push the power button on the front of the case, do any lights come on? Look in the back of the case, can you see or feel the fan on the power supply moving?

Hi!  I just purchased a Yoga 13 the other day.  It's really cool, but there is this thing that really bugs me:  Every once in a while, the touchpad will render itself unresponsive for about half a second.  When the touchpad will become unresponsive is predictable:  I just need to move my finger up and down the trackpad and every 5 seconds or so, the touchpad will be unresponsive for about half a second.  This is annoying because it doesn't require 5 seconds of full use to become unresponsive, but it might be unresponsive when i first try to move the cursor requiring me to use the touchpad for a second time to move the cursor as desired. Has anyone experienced this?  Are some steps I can follow to troubleshoot this?  Could it be fault hardware and should I return it for a new one? Thanks!

Answer:Yoga 13 Touchpad periodically unresponsive

Same thing is happening to me, really freaking annoying. I downloaded the new driver for it as well but it still does that same thing. someone please help!

Hi folks
I've had success on this forum before and I'm hoping someone with more knowledge of IT than me can suggest a workaround/solution to an issue I currently have with a Windows 7 (Home Premium) laptop:
This is an old laptop that I only use from time to time, but it still has a number of files and photos on it that I don't have saved elsewhere.  Last time I used the laptop, it was acting as if the Ctrl key was being pressed every 2-3 seconds which made the keyboard difficult to use (because it triggered shortcuts as I tried to type: Ctrl + O, Ctrl + S etc.).  Because I don't use the laptop as my main machine, I decided that I'd uninstall the keyboard driver from within the Control Panel and just use the on-screen keyboard going forward.
Following this, I powered the machine on a couple of days ago and panicked when I discovered that I couldn't get the Ease of Access dialog box to display on the login screen to allow me to enable the on-screen keyboard.  It doesn't produce any kind of error – it simply does nothing when the button, located in the left-hand corner, is clicked.
At this point I was still hopeful that I could get around the issue by connecting a standard USB keyboard, but this is also completely unresponsive (although it does appear to be getting power from the laptop because the Caps Lock indicator light is lit).  I've tried a few alternatives: connecting the keyboard before powering up, during the start u... If you are just interested in recovering your data to save elsewhere you could purchase an external enclosure for about $8.00 at Newegg, remove the HDD from the laptop and install it in the external enclosure.  You can then attach it to another computer via a USB cable (which comes with the enclosure) and access your data to recover what you want.

After using the ThinkPad Yoga 260 for about two weeks, both the trackpoint and touchpad are now unresponsive. I've tried updating the drivers, rolling back the drivers and uninstalling the drivers and installing the latest one. None of it works. I managed to get it working once with a BIOS update but as soon as I put it in sleep mode, both became unresponsive again. Under Mouse Porperties the TouchPad option is grayed out and the TrackPoint option is sometimes grayed out and sometimes not. Regardless, it is completely unresponsive when enabled and disabled.

When Windows is reset, the touchpad will not be enabled and I must go into my control panel and open up the mouse settings. After that, the two finger scroll will work. I dont change any settings, all I have to do is open up the mouse settings and it works again. When browsing the net, when i click play on an embedded YouTube clip, or if I click on a textbox the scroll will no longer work until the page is reloaded. Once the page is reloaded, you are able to two finger scroll up and down the page again. The designated sound keys on the top left are finicky at times aswell. Typically when browing the internet, the sound keys wont work until you click the sound icon in the taskbar. Any ideas on how to solve this?

So my left touchpad button has become unresponsive.
It doesn't seem to be mechanically damaged.
when I use the touchpad utility and swap functionality between the two buttons, it doesn't perform either so I'm guessing this is a physical rather than driver issue.

I've seen a couple of posts here about the touchpad becoming unresponsive. mine is doing the same thing, except it seems tied to a gesture that is triggered.I went through all the settings on mine, and turned a lot of stuff off, however mine is still becoming unresponsive every now and then, and I noticed when I added the touchpad icon to the icon bar, it was turning blue when becoming unresponsive. It also comes back after lifting my finger, and putting it back on the touchpad.  this looks to be tied also to 2 fingers being on the touchpad at the same time, which the way the yoga13 is built, is necessary for your thumb to be on the bottom 2 buttons for clicking. Is there a place that i can tweak/customize/disable the gesture that is getting triggered?

Answer:yoga touchpad unresponsive may be a gesture triggering

had to turn off 2 finger scrolling

I faced the similar issue. You can fix it by switching off i2c_hid and setting nopnp in boot parameters this way
1. Run
sudo -H gedit /etc/default/grub
In the open window edit line
it should look this way
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash i8042.nopnp"
Save file and run
sudo update-grub
2. Run
echo "blacklist i2c_hid" | sudo tee /etc/modprobe.d/i2c-hid.conf
sudo depmod -a
sudo update-initramfs -u
echo "synaptics_i2c" | sudo tee -a /etc/modules
3. Reboot.
Enjoy !! and let me know if that worked for you.

Okay, I bought a Brand new Lenovo G505 from Newegg. first day, the touchpad seems kind of weird. I've never had a laptop before so I didn't know what to think. Today, the touchpad froze. I could not get it to move- neither of the key worked! The keyboard was fine but the touchpad was COMPLETELY unresponsive. Eventually, I put the screen down and flipped it back up and it worked.  Whats the problem? This laptop is BRAND NEW. Did i just get a faulty one? Should I return it? This should be a part of the warranty right?

Answer:Brand new G505: Touchpad unresponsive/freezes

Hi Radishes,
Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!
I?m sorry to hear that the Touchpad, Keyboard are not working as expected in your G505 Laptop, I suggest you to re-install the Touchpad drivers for the computer. Below is the link to download the same:

Do post us back if the issue still persists.

Hello, I've bought a brand new T460 ThinkPad about 10 days ago, and I'm noticing that when I plug in an Ethernet cable, the touchpad becomes unresponsive: some clicks and taps are missed, movement is slow and and occasionally temporarily stuck. The touchpad comes to life again immediately once the Ethernet cable is unplugged. The trackpoint and trackpoint buttons above the touchpad are unaffected, only the touchpad starts to misbehave. This happens both on Windows and Linux, so it's not an OS-specific issue. Moreover, I've checked to see if I'm running the latest BIOS version, and I am. And there are no issues when using the wireless adapter, but one of the reasons I've bought a ThinkPad was that it has an Ethernet port, so not being able to use it would be extremely dissapointing. I've checked to see if there are IRQ conflicts for the touchpad, but could find none. The problem happens both when the computer is plugged in and when it's running on battery only. I've also tried two different cables in the same router, each in a different router port, and the problem persisted. I am using the latest Windows 7 drivers directly from the Lenovo website, and Arch Linux with kernel 4.4.5 - the Ethernet adapter is seen as: [ 2.751703] e1000e: Intel(R) PRO/1000 Network Driver - 3.2.6-k[ 2.751705] e1000e: Copyright(c) 1999 - 2015 Intel Corporation. Should I expect this to be fixed with a BIOS update or should I contact warranty? Hi,My Y480's touchpad becomes unresponsive sometime.I tried pressing the Fn+F6 key but it never works.Later I tried installing the Synaptics Driver from their website. The frequency of the ocuurences increased.I have tried upgrading the BIOS as well. Please let me know if any solution exists for this problem. Once it occurs, I'm forced to shut down and restart holding the touchpad button for the touchpad to become responsive again. Didn't expect such issues from Lenovo. Had a Y500 for 5 years before this one and it never had any problems. Thanks

Hi I purchased this laptop around 4 months ago and really enjoy using it. the touchpad has always been a little unresponsive, particularly on the two finger scroll but I have been patient with it. today the cursor froze completely.  when turn on the laptop or restart the cursor appears on the screen. when I try to move the cursor using the touch pad it does not respond. when i touch the screen, the cursor disappears and never returns no matter what I do. I can navigate using the touch screen but my natural instinct is to use the touchpad so I waste lots of time instinctively going to the touchpad and then having to redo the action on the touch screen.  I updated the Synaptics touchpad driver (tip from a related string on the forum) ... sp71089.exe ... but it made no difference. Please helpThanksFrankkk

Whenever I wake my chromebook from sleep the trackpad function is inoperable. There is no cursor displayed and using the trackpad does not appear to have any effect (i.e. no "invisible" cursor either). Upon reboot all trackpad function is restored. This started happening after I had been using my chromebook for a few months, so I'm guessing there was a software update associated with it, but I have no idea which one. Anyone else experienced this? TIA

Hello all,

I unboxed this laptop today and the touchpad does not respond very well often requiring a few seconds of "wiggling" before it will work. It is also quite jumpy.

I have tried changing various settings including the sensitivity and the plam prevention, but to no avail.

I have tried this with multiple operating systems, including launching directly from a disc, and the problem persists.

Has anyone else had this experience, or any advice to share regarding this matter?

Thank you all very much for your time.

Answer:Qosmio X870-119 - Trackpad/Touchpad is extremely unresponsive

I, too, have just unboxed a Qosmio X870-119 and have the same problem with the touchpad.

I noticed that the "unresponsiveness" happens most often when I leave the touchpad idle and untouched for a few seconds. When I do that, it then takes a couple seconds of wiggling for the cursor to start moving.

I've also toyed with all the options in the provided software, but to no avail. Maybe there's a fault with the driver ?

Thanks in advance for any help with this matter.

Hello guys,

I have quite an odd problem. I noticed that every time I launch a DLNA-related application like LG Smartshare and Lenovo's SHAREIt, my touchpad and mouse mysteriously become unusable (disconnecting/reconnecting does nothing).

I manage to navigate through these applications and perform my intended tasks successfully via keyboard but to enable the touchpad and mouse again, I have to logoff/on and things go back to normal (which rules out the touchpad and mouse being defective).

It only happens when I launch these apps and the rest works as it should be. Any idea what may be causing this and possible resolution?

I bought this laptop less than six months ago, and it's already starting to deteriorate. My Last HP laptop also started to become, essentially useless after about six months. I can see a repeating pattern here, so it's unlikely I'll continue purchasing HP products, but in the meantime, I'd like to fix this issue, so that I can still use this laptop in the interim of finding a much better company, with higher standards for product functionality. My touchpad regularly stops functioning; sometimes, I have to have my hands placed a certain way on the laptop for the touchpand to work. Other times, it will lag, or I'll have to wait or even restart for it to become functional again. Sometimes, the cursor will jump to an entirely new location while using the touchpad. Basically, it rarely works the way it is intended to be used. I have uninstalled, and reinstalled drivers, I have performed recommended updates, and bla bla bla. I'd like a legitimate solution, asap.

Answer:T420 / Win 10 Pro / Ultra Nav 19.00/12.61 = TrackPoint and Touchpad hardware buttons unresponsive

Hello - I had the same problem a few weeks after upgrading from windows 7 pro 64 bits to windows 10 pro 64 bits on my t420s. I tired to replace the hardware without sucess with a new palmrest assembly. Finally I found a solution that fixed it by going to the mouse and trackpad settings in windows 10 and there changing the delay setting for the trackpad to respond - once I had changed that setting everything (trackpad buttons and trackpad) worked again.
