I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

this keyboard is very unforgiving. I have have to slow my typing speed by at least half and I still miss letters and spaces in everything I type, it is VERY annoying. Is there any fix for this problem. It is as if this keyboard was designed for "hunt and peck" people.I even had to go back and add a letter (two letters) in this short message.... grrrrr. I should add that I have tried adjusting the speed in controlpanel but it isno help. If I don't strike the key precisely in the middle it will likely not register a letter, symbol, or space. The spacebar is expecially maddening, if I press the lower edge of it, I get nothing. I have never had this problem before on a computer.  Any help??? Julien

Windows 10
Start - Settings - Ease of Access - Keyboard

Everything here is off. If i turn on the On-Screen Keyboard no keys are Highlighted (indicating they are depressed/stuck )
When I use the hard keyboard and sometimes even the onscreen keyboard its as if either Ctrl, Alt Win or something are pressed down as it just types shortcuts.

-H- typed into chrome browser address bar via onscreen keyboard types as normal
-H- typed into chrome browser address bar via hard keyboard brings up -Chrome://history- But now also on the onscreen keyboard Ctrl is Highlighted.
I click on the onscreen keyboard to deactivate the now highlighted Ctrl button and try again. Now things are different, as now both the onscreen keyboard and the hard keyboard both bring up ?Chrome://history- when -H- is typed ( Shift is not depressed )

This seems to randomly cycle one min onscreen keyboard works fine, next the keyboard works fine or they either work or none of the work rendering the computer useless.

I cant help feel it?s a software issue but im no pro and I don?t have an additional external keyboard to try but as the onscreen and hard keyboard work ok for a while sometimes I assume something is up and that?s what brought me here.

Hopefully this is clear enough to be understood and to help others who may have the same issue.

I have a Dell Dimension 3000 computer with the Dell keyboard that came with it. I've had it for almost 5 years. The past few weeks, I've had problems with the keyboard not inputting the letters I type. I'll type a sentence or 2 and look up to see only 1/2 of the first sentence is there.
This mostly happens when I'm posting on online forums. It has yet to happen when I'm working in Word.

Any ideas anyone?

Hi guys,

I just bought a new optical keyboard and mouse (made by kensington and quite cheap). The mouse is fine, but I've got problems with the keyboard. I realised that I was having trouble typing in passwords and things as it was doing strange things, so I decided to test it out in notepad. I realised that although certain keys are typing fine (mainly the outside ones), some of the inside ones are doing very odd things. e.g. the 'y' key shuts down my computer, the 'n' or 'm' key seems to type about 3 different letters and it goes on, certain keys open up new windows, and other functions in windows start happening, and I can't figure out why. Any ideas?

Most of the letters come out ok, but some of the keys writes wrong letters e.g. key with letter 'I' gives '5', 'O' gives '6', etc. And it's not the problem of keyboard layout, it's U.S. English and never been changed to another one. Problem persist in each application including command prompt. OS is XP Pro. Norton didn't detect any virus. Anyone has a clue?

My mother's computer started having issues with the keyboard, recently. I'll say it how i see it, but obviously, i might be missing something.

When typing the letter q on the keyboard, "qt" comes up. w and e are fine, r types "re". This happens with two different keyboards. I brought by my (this) keyboard, and it worked fine, but i only tried for a minute. On her computer, i tried both a ps2 and usb keyboard (native for both, no adapters).

Right now, if i try to login, when i click on a user, it fills in the password field (as if there was a stuck key) and tells me the caps lock is on. Capslock button does turn it off, but it did not look like backspace was doing anything. The bios did not complain of a stuck button. Safe mode (i happened to try with networking) has the same issue. No issue using the keyboard before windows loads.

Using teamviewer from my computer to hers is tough. I can hit capslock with sometimes works, keys sometimes work and sometimes don't, if it types in two letters, i can use the mouse to highlight one (to overwrite) when continuing. With a lot of effort and time i can login. Clicking icons on the desktop does not work, from the start menu does.

I tried hitting the helper menu to get the on screen keyboard for logging on. The first time i tried, it came up and worked. Now the button doesn't do anything.

I went into Device Manager (early on, when i could still do things) and deleted the keyboard. It made me reboot, but didn't se... Read more

Answer:Keyboard typing wrong letters

Just tried again via TeamViewer. I can delete in the password field, but it acts as if there is a stuck key. (This is different than the last time i tried.) The form with the option for the on screen keyboard now does come up, but the keyboard is an empty frame and the mouse cursor (while over the frame) shows the circle of waiting.

This is weird. It's like Schrodinger's cat or something. The problem changes every time i look at it!

I have an hp laptop and my keyboard is being acting very weird. When pressing almost all the keys, i get a group of letters. For example, when pressing "v" i get "bgv". some of them stopped responding at all. I used to get "1qa" when pressing "q", but now it doesnt even respong. Also, the on-screen keyboard shows that both shifts are pressed.

Can anyone help me with this?

Answer:Keyboard is typing several letters instead of one needed

Try an external (USB) keyboard
If that works without issue, then it sounds as though your laptop keyboard is faulty (dust or moisture)
You could try blowing it out with high compressed air (compressed air cans can be purchased from many electronic or computer tech stores)
But you may need to replace the faulty keyboard

This has been happening every other day for me recently where I will be typing and my keyboard will randomly start typing the wrong letters or pressing certain keys will open the menu bar, but my computer to sleep or just type completely random letters. I've googled it once before and found that I should change the settings in control panel > regional and language settings which worked for me once but lately it doesn't.

I've even purposely added a foreign language and then re added my normal one (UK) but hasn't helped, it was already on the proper settings anyway. The last two times it has happened was on the night and left my keyboard unplugged, the next day I plugged my keyboard back into the tower while the computer was still loading up and it has been working fine now and did the same again last night. I don't know why it does this? Also google suggested a FN key but my keyboard doesn't have one.

Many laptop keyboards have a section which can be used for numeric data entry only.

These keys are normally just a block of the main QWERTY keyboard and accessed by using a Function key.

You have probably got the keyboard into this "mode"

I am about to embark on writing a few french (and German) letters on my computer at home which has as you can expect a British keyboard. Is there any way that I can change the language over to French or German standards so that it picks up and recommends where words and accents should go without me having to "insert symbol" or do strange letter contributions? Does this make sense?Or do I need to buy a French and German keyboard to get the accents in?Thanks!

Answer:Typing French letters on a British keyboard

You need to load the French and German Spell checkers. Type as normal then do a spell check and point the spellchecker to the relevant language. It will change them for you.

Answer:Satellite C50-A-1DV - keyboard typing multiple letters

Connect the external USB keyboard and check if the same ?double letters? issue would appear using such external USB keyboard.

If the double letters symptoms will not appear using external keyboard, then the internal notebook keyboard must be faulty.

This would mean that the internal keyboard must be replaced to fix the issue.
But if the double letter will appear even using the external keyboard, then the keyboard controller (part of the motherboard) could be affected.

Not quite sure if this could be fixed by BIOS update but in case your BIOS is not up to date, try to update the BIOS.

Otherwise I would recommend you to contact Toshiba authorized service provider for an check.

If this is a laptop see if this helps.

If you're writing numbers instead of letters when you press the keyboard of your laptop and you must hold down the Function key (Fn) to write normally.

This is due to the fact that the digital lock is activated. To solve this, simply press the Fn+Numlk or depending of the model, press the button or Fn + Shift +Numlk

Answer:laptop keyboard not typing double letters or

First try System restore to any date before the incident (preferably a few days or a week). If that does not work, uninstall the keyboard in device manager and restart, that should allow windows to reinstall the drivers. The cat probably hit a strange combination of keys like ctrl+Shift+something else and you could look all day and not find the options to correct it directly. One of these should help. In the future, put the system into sleep if you walk away for a few minutes (or close the lid), Hibernate if for longer, and shut down for hours or overnight. You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.

my mother has a Toshiba Equium, and has just phoned to say that its stopped typing the letters "s", "d" and "g" - does anyone have any ideas why this would happen?

Thanks, Clare

Answer:Re: Equium's keyboard has suddenly stopped typing some letters

Looks like a keyboard malfunction...
In my opinion you should contact the ASP technician in order to replace the keyboard.
The point is that it?s not possible to replace the single buttons... of course you can replace the key caps but nit the full button...

Therefore a keyboard replacement would be necessary in order to solve this problem.

If external USB keyboard would work properly, the double letters problem is related to the internal keyboard malfunction.

Thank you so much for your time.

I have 2 problems and would love to hear your thoughts. (Bold)
Before couple weeks ago, my mouse started to act weird, like it stops moving for couple second and I hear the sound of a new device plugged in then it goes back to work, afterwards ... it stopped going back, a restart was a must for it to continue working EVEN THO the mouse lights were still on.

In few days, the keyboard of the laptop it self (built in) stopped typing some letters (back-space, enter, D, I), I've booted into a portable OS and the keys weren't working too, I assume it's hardware problem.

I went and bought new mouse and an external keyboard, the same USB problem that happened with the old mouse happened, I thought it could be some drivers or some software interupting, I formatted my PC and the problem still persists! BUT I do not remember the USB disconnecting or any sort when the windows was FRESH and not connected to the internet (were some drivers could be installed through windows itself).

Laptop is N53SN ASUS Laptop.

- Built-in keyboard: any thoughts? And what shall I do about it? Replace or is there something I can do other than replacing?
- USB disconnection, the lights still work on both keyboard and the mouse when they disconnect, I have disabled the "Power management setting" that makes the PC turn off the USB ports for power-saving.

Thanks, and sorry if I missed any needed information, it's my first topic.

Answer:USB ports disconnecting / Keyboard stopped typing some letters

Hello and welcome Killer mate no need to get a new KB yet a few more specs would be handy though mate.

Now assuming you haven't tried them out have you downloaded the drivers for either the external KB - presuming again it is a specified manufacturer or the inbuilt KB?

Hello all! So I looked around the forums for an answer before I posted, and I found a topic that was about this same problem. The person finally solved the problem by system restoring their laptop to before September 19th. I did this and disabled automatic update installation, and I was fine. Then yesterday my dad was using my laptop to look something up. Apparently he thought it would be "helpful" to install any updates I had, and he updated my laptop before he gave it back. Today the problem came back, where I'll be typing and my keyboard will decide to give me numbers instead of letters. I tried another system restore, but it didn't list any days before the beginning of October as options, no matter how hard I looked, so I can't possibly restore to before September 19th. Is there any way I can get rid of this problem, or did my dad just ruin my laptop?

HiAs mentioned above.. My notebook started typing weirdly and my caps lock key used to have a white LED light indicator but its not showing suddenly.. (the caps lock key is still functioning)As for the other parts of the keyboard.. when i type ' l ' the letter ' l3 ' would come out.. When i type ' i ' the letter 'oi' would appear.. It is typing joined letters randomly.. Typing ' o ' would be hitting enter and O at the same time.. I've tried almost all the suggestion in the forum but its still not working for me.. caps LED still not working and keyboard still typing weirdly  I even formatted the whole notebook totally without recovery and downloaded the latest software from HP.. Still not working..  Any suggestions? Would it be a hardware issue?  Thank you for taking your time to look into my problemPS: my laptop is in super duper good condition  cheersivan

HelloWe have an issue where our users of the Lenovo Yoga type in Word or Excel.Whilst typing a sentence users have reported a series of sevens (7777777777) appearing like that randomly throughout.  Sometimes random letters too.  This sequence does not stop until you press Enter. You have to constantly keep deleting and restarting a sentence. This happens when using an external USB keyboard and monitor.  Our Yogas do not have NUMLOCK function on the laptop itself.  Any help solving this mystery would be appreciated! thank you

Answer:Keyboard randomly inserts numbers/letters whilst typing

Hi Redr,
Welcome to Lenovo Community!
As per the query we understood that you are facing the issue with mistyping the letters on your Lenovo Yoga.

Please let us know is the system is Lenovo ThinkPad Yoga or Lenovo Ideapad Yoga?
Check with booting the system into safe mode and check if the issue persists in that also.
Check with uninstalling all keyboard adapters from device manager.

Hope this helps!
Best regards,

Hi everyone ! My yoga 500 has this very annoying issue since yesterday (after an update on i-tunes, I don't know if this is related...): - Anything I type on the physical keyboard appears "s" letter, even if I type on the numbers or enter- I restarted many times- The screen keyboard works ok- I can't even log in when I start from the keyboard, I have to switch to tablet mode and use the screen keyboard- I started fresh with a clean installation of Windows as suggested in Windows 10 recovery advanced startup   > didn't help- I checked the language of the keyboard, that is OK-There is no Nmlock key on my keyboard, but I tried a few Shift/Alt combinations proposed on the web forums> didn't help Does anyone had the same issue ?I looked for the solution on this forum but couldn't find, hope I don't repost anything already discussed and apologies if that was the case. I am writing this form a different notebook and hope I can get help from experts ! Have a great day

Keyboard in question = Microsoft Wireless Desktop Elite - Model 1011

I've had it for about a year now. Intermittently it suddenly won't accept a keystoke. I am typing away and hit a key and nothing happens. Sometimes another keystroke will be accepted and sometimes it won't. At first I thought it was lag cause I had a MMORPG going but it is doing it without any strain on the computer.

Then just as suddenly, it will accept the keystroke and let me continue typing till it wants to act up again. This can happen in moments or hours.

I just discovered that I cleared the problem this time by pushing the "channel connect" button on the underside of the keyboard. The batteries are good. I use top line rechargeable and replace them every few weeks.

Any idea what might be causing this glitch and how I might correct it? I really like the keyboard and hate the thought of having to buy another. They aren't cheap.

I have had this problem for nearly a month. When I type anywhere in IE it does this: "the quick rownfx jumped overthe lazy dg". It works fine in Firefox (but I dont like it) and works fine in Notepad or Wordpad etc. Here is what I have done so far.

Replaced Keyboard. (Gates you owe me $15.)
Gone though the "Add-ons" one by one.
Uninstalled Google Earth.
Uninstalled Itunes.
I spent 2 hours on the phone with Microsoft Tech Support.
They had me turning things on and off and still no solution. (I had plans to go see Jeff Dunham so I had to go. He was great BTW.)

Everything I have searched for has never had a solution.

Just bought a new Ideapad S405 with Windows 8 from Staples. When moving the cursor around the screen with the touchpad, particularly when trying to navigate details such as lists and small icons, it jumps and skips to the point of frustration. It's virtually impossible to click and highlight a piece of text because of this issue. I've also noticed some problems with the cursor moving while it is resting and I am typing. I have installed the latest Synaptics drivers and rebooted my system. I have tried to follow the instructions here as well, but have been unable to find the "tap off when typing" option they're talking about. I'm returning this laptop if I can't find a solution. A tool that's so basic needs to work properly to make a new machine worth it. Thanks for any help.

Answer:Cursor skips and jumps (when moving and resting/typing) -- Ideapad S405

that link is for an ALPS touchpad. The S405 has the synaptics touchpad, I'm pretty sure for all S405s but I could be wrong. You can check that in Device Manager under 'Mice and other Pointing Devices'.. The Synaptics touchpad settings have a ton of settings, but I see nothing related to disabling the touchpad or tapping while typing.I have the S405 also and have no such issues as you are having.Have you checked if any processes in Task Manager are eating your CPU possibly leading to a stuttery cursor?

A few months ago I began having problems when typing emails in Outlook Express. Font changes in the middle of a word, paragraphs from some old email suddenly insert themselves into the new email, it will skip from aligned left to aligned center, what I have typed will suddenly disappear, or I will suddenly be typing in the Subject line of the email or typing in a saved email, address book suddenly pops up, etc etc.
I bought a new keyboard and mouse and that did not help.
The computer Tech/Repair man first ran several different types of scans looking for a virus, etc and found nothing so wiped my computer clean, installed everything back on it, including saved emails, documents, pictures, everything. A day later it started again.
Computer tech switched me to Outlook from Outlook Express. Same thing. I have Microsoft office 2003. I bought still another new keyboard and mouse.
It started all over again.
So I bought a new computer with another new keyboard and mouse and he installed everything on it. A day later it started again on the new computer. He took it back, wiped it clean and did not put any saved emails, documents, pictures, bookmarks, etc back on it. It is just as bad as ever. I have Windows XP on both computers. Ok I have a Alienware M17XR2 laptop. I just installed windows 8.1 from a formatted start. Got most of the drivers functioning. I have an unknown device which I will address in another thread. Anyway my keyboard lags sometimes while I am typing fast. Never did that on my Windows 7. I'm running 64 bit as well. Any suggestions?

Answer:Typing Lag/Missed Letters

In my experiences laggy typing has been due to spyware or java intercepting my keystrokes for whatever reason.

Run spybot search and destroy, its free..

Boot your computer in safemode with networking, if no lag then its a program intercepting your keystrokes.

If still lag, you may have hardware problems, either keyboard or motherboard, possibly even video..

I have a new Dell Inspiron 580 with Win 7 Home. Everything was great until about a week ago.

When playing games, all my keyboard inputs come out as numbers, and they are not the same numbers, they cycle 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,0,1... (I press 'a' and 1 comes up, press it again or any other key and 2 comes up, again, 3 and so on) This makes it impossible to do online crosswords or move in any game that uses the wasd keys. The keys all work fine in office, explorer, or any place that just wants text.

This is a desktop not a laptop so the numlock isn't the problem. I have swapped keyboards, updated drivers, turned off accessibility features, checked keyboard language setting, and nothing helps.

The only thing that I changed on the computer around when this problem started was changing anti-virus software, the 30 day McAffe trial was over so I uninstalled it and installed Norton Security Suite, which may be the problem, but I can't go back now.

Has anyone heard of a problem like this with Norton, Win 7, or anywhere?

I suspect Nortons anti-key-logger is messing things up, but i haven't found any way to turn it off or settings to change.

Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

If you're running Windows 7 operating system and you've installed the standard free security offering from Comcast called "Constant Guard", you don't have a problem with your numlock button. HELP!! EEverything I type shows up as doubled letters. lliikkee tthhiiss. I have adjusted my keyboard settings, but when I went back on the web it keeps doing it

Answer:double typing letters

There is no one fix that takes care of all of these.
A couple points:
- Make sure the battery in your keyboard is fresh (if it's wireless)
- If your keyboard and mouse are both wireless, make sure they both have good batteries.
- If they each run off separate dongles, and they are the same brand, try unplugging one dongle at a time and see if it helps or changes.
- there have been some machines (HP), that have had actual hardware problems with the keyboards.

Fixing this online could be unmanageable, or it may need a hardware expert.
It's always possible it's caused by some kind of malware related corruption, but I doubt it.
You could also try going into Control Panel > Keyboard and changing the settings for delay and repeat rate, etc. to see if it helps..
(That is probably what you meant by your "settings", so it's not likely to help).

On my two new Lenovo Yoga 900 machines, there is an issue with typing where letters occasionally appear doubled. It's a real pain and the only thing I don't like about the machine. It's not the way I type, my wife has the exact same model Yoga and has the same problem. It occurs about once a paragraph, so it's not constant, and I can't find any way to duplicate it. It just seems random.
This is not a new issue with Lenovo I found out, but the solution I have seen at mmultiple places online is to set the Enable Repeat Key settings. This means there is a slight pause between accepting a second letter, and even though I type very fast, it still works well EXCEPT this also means there will be a pause when I do things like using the arrow keys to scroll.  For example, if I want to highlight this sentence to delete it, I will usually hold the shift key, and the hold down the left arrow and let it scroll back to the first word. This takes a lot longer with the Enable Repeat Key setting. Also,, sometimes I scroll up using the up arrow and that also is affected when I add a pause to Enable Repeat Key. This just shouldn't be. In all my previous systems I have never had this, and it's particularly disappointing given how much I like this machine, and that fact that I have seen online that this has occurred on previous Lenovo models as well.
Maybe a .1 second pause would work, but the minimum setting I can choose in Settings is .3 which is too slow.&nb... Read more

Is there anyway to have the NUM LOCK key ONLY affect the number keys?I have tried pressing the Function key with the NUM Lock, the Shift key & Num Lock, Ctrl Key & Num Lock, ALT key & NUM Lock - but no joy. I have also tried all kinds of combinations of the above without success. The model of my computer is HP Pavillion dv 9500 laptop and there are no numbers on the keys. Any other suggestions or help is really appreciated ?

Answer:HP laptop typing numbers instead of letters !

The is no way for selectively turn on NUM lock as you are asking. You shall just have to keep using the num lock button every time you want to use the numbers. or just use the top line of the keyboard for the numbers.

Just recently my computer started doing the annoying thing where you try to type, but it freezes for a couple of seconds and then all the typing you did finally shows up. It does it when I try to scroll down a page, too; everything freezes for a few seconds before my cursor is responsive again. I have a fairly high-powered computer, and no extraneous programs are running. When I keep Task Manager running, I can see spikey activity in the CPU when these freeze-ups occur. I keep things well-defragged and spyware-free. After reading one of your forums, I saw a recommendation to download "HiJack This" from, one of the best sites of all time. So I downloaded it, and here's the log file. Anyone see anything that could be causing this annoying problem (which has happened 3 times while typing this post)?? Thanks in advance.

I have a new Pavilion laptop with Windows 10 and very annoyingly when I type fast keystrokes are missed.
This occurs on any key and so it appears to be a software/op system problem.
Any solutions please?

Answer:missing letters when typing fast

@Maxlondon? The keyboard speed may be set too slow. Adjust the keyboard speed pretty much in the same way this worked in previous versions of Windows. Control Panel > icon view > Keyboard > Keyboard Properties >> adjust as needed Example Reference:Typing speed is slow on windows 10, how to change keyboard speed? Other than that, make sure you have installed / updated your relevant HP Drivers for Windows 10.  Sometimes the Drivers in the computer's Driver website support page are newer than your "new" notebook. When you see a Post that helps you,Inspires you, provides fresh insight,Or teaches you something new,Click the "Thumbs Up" on that Post. Click my Answer Accept as Solution to help others find Answers.

Aspire R14 skipping letters when typing - is there a fix for this issue? It is very frustrating.

Answer:Aspire R14 skipping letters when typing

I would recommend making sure you have the most up to date BIOS version installed. If that fails, contacting Acer for service options to get it checked out would be the next step.

I'm still using XP pro (groan) .... Things will change when I get my new computer (dual boot with linux). In the mean time, if I want to let's say type a letter to my doctor (for snail mail) can spies on line see it ? I guess I'm basically using notepad allthough the file I dug out of my computer is called "Write.exe" and creates rich text files. Duh. Thanks for reading

P.S. I have a switch that disconnects me from everything on the net.

Answer:Typing letters or notes - are they secure ?

I would say yes you are vulnerable, XP at this stage of the game is getting more and more insecure.  That being said if you have good after market security solution you are safer but not as safe as the more current OS's.

Every now and then my HP laptop which is running Windows 7 will start typing numbers instead of letters. If I turn off num lock the problem resolves itself but then my number pad is useless. I can't find any combination of keys that permanently corrects this issue so I have to do a system restore. Any ideas?

Answer:HP laptop typing numbers instead of letters !

An attachment below will best explain what i am asking your help for.
Very often[not always] while i am typing a letter in the text of g-mail [i don't know about firefox etc] and i want to add a forgotten letter or so in the text, the next [already typed letter is wiped out and all sequent ones and i have then to type the whole rest of the sentence again.
Any clue how to repair this "evil"?
This does not happen in a word file [wordpad ,WPS writer etc] so it can't be a problem with the keyboard.
Thanks for your help

Answer:Letters erased while typing in an e-mail

The curser looks like an overstrike (insert/delete) key
When you type it replaces the character the cursor is over

try clicking on the insert/delete - if a laptop using the FN key
the cursor will change from a block to a line

Wanted to find out if others have run into this problem. I have a lap top with Vista running. It's been about a year since I purchased a new Dell and when I type, randomly, letters are skipped while on-line. I use IE to browse. This problem doesn't exist in Word or Excel applications.

Answer:When typing, letters skip only on-line

Next time that it happens press the insert key, once. It is located to the right of backspace.

If that does not work try the next suggestiion

Assuming that you like IE, why not just experiment with FF or Chrome. You do not have to keep them. Just to find out where the problem really is located?

I have searched everywhere but can't find an answer I can understand in beginners (layman) terms. On my HP G62 355 DX laptop I used to be able to type a letter to a friend or business and then print it on my HP 1050 series deskjet printer. It would print as typed with paragraphs where I put them. NOW either the computer or printer picks the spot to begin a new paragraph, which is often in the middle of a sentence. The tool bar commands in Word seem to work except for the justify, paragraph selections. The only thing I have done differently is update the printer driver from HP. (not a place I like to go to, btw) But it started this before the update. Last night a post on a W7 forum made reference to Javascript being disabled (mine is) might relate to this problem. Any advice would be helpful. (need to write my X-mas letter soon) Thanks, Gnuguy

Answer:Paragraphs in odd places when typing letters

How something determined by the formatting used in the document/page.

In my mind, that says that you need to check the page formatting options you have elected in Word. If the options do now work as they should, I would uninstall/reinstall Word/Office.

Greetings all!A colleague of mine is using a X60 with an Ultrabase at his office, and he's experiencing some weird errors that I can't figure out. It's not critical in any way, but rather a constant annoyance.Every now and then while he's typing some text in whatever application, a random letter will appear and bugger up the spelling of the words. This happens all the time, more or less every 2-3 minutes. It does not matter if he's using a USB-keyboard attached to the Ultrabase, or the keyboard on the X60 itself. I reckoned it might be a faulty keyboard, but seing as this happens on every keyboard I'm not so sure about this.Example:"My colleague types this"but what appears on-screen is for instance:"My colleague trypes this." (an "r" mysteriously appeared)All these spelling errors are frustrating, as they happen all the time. At least he's forced to spell check all his documents, but I can see that this is annoying in the long run. What can cause this kind of behavior? I was hoping I'd avoid a reinstall of the computer. I reckon I'll install another disk, boot it up,  and see if the errors still persist. If so, I reckon it's hardware related. If anyone's experienced anything similiar, please let me know :-)RegardsBob Lydan

Answer:Random letters appear while typing, X60 WinXP

I would first eliminate possibility of any virus infection. The error is not limited to one keyboard, and neither is it about the mappped key. Otherwise it would be consistent. To me it appears more a virus behaviour.

I can be typing along in an email or like even here and suddenly the letters I'm typing jump to a different line or a different place. For instance, as I type this, slowly, the letters will do fine until about every 20th keystroke ends up in the middle of a previous word. It's maddening. A long time ago, this happened and I fixed it by going into ctrl panel, changed something in Ease of Access (but can't remember what). It has taken me forever just to get this typed. Help!

Answer:While typing, letters jump to different lines

Hi and welcome,
Just a thought ... are you by any chance typing on a laptop and accidentally coming in to contact with the touchpad?
If so, post make/model in case someone knows how to deactivate touchpad while typing.
