Gateway 7320GZ Hinge Repair

Question: Gateway 7320GZ Hinge Repair

So the screen of my lap top is breaking off on the right side. The screws are out. The left side is still connected so it still works. It must be held up though (i put it against my wall) I cant really describe how its broken on the left but anyway.... when i move the screen to try and push it in or even move it in general the computer turns off and then restarts. Its really annoying bc its doing it constantly. How can I fix this. PS... i dont know anything about computers really especially about bulding and repairing it physically! so i understand that any answers wont be a quick fix im sure unless someone has a miracle for me.. but someone lead me in a direction hehe plsss thanks everyone![/IMG]

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I'm running x86 on a Gateway 7320GZ. After upgrading to 7 I have no sound. There doesn't appear to be any problem with the drivers etc...in fact, when i click on the speaker I can see the volume bars moving...but I have no sound.

I've followed other posts and tried installing the appropriate Gateway driver package using compatibilty mode...no dice. I've tried installing the drivers recommended by Windows Update Catalog (the drivers were found after entering the PCI info) but that didn't work either. I've tried manually installing the Vista drivers.

Does anyone have any other ideas?

I recently purchased a Ergotron Neo-Flex Adjustable monitor stand for my Gateway FPD1960 monitor in August. When I went to assemble the new stand I found that I needed a hinge cover after I removed the neck hinge from the Gateway FPD1960 monitor (See documentation page 5).

I have contacted both Gateway and Ergotron and both deny responsibility for the part. My final conversation with a Gateway representative said I should contact the following stores: Comp USA, Circuit City, Office Depot and Best Buy since they sold Gateway computers to see if they had a hinge cover. I continue to have trouble finding this part.

Could anyone please tell me if such a part exists and where I can purchase it? I would appreciate any help you can give me so I can complete the assembly of my monitor stand to the monitor. Thank you.

Can anyone help guide me through this so I don't screw up the laptop.

I have a used keyboard replacement for our Gateway 7320GZ. It didn't come with any instructions and I can't find anything on Gateway's support site for this model. I just need to know which screws to remove and how to pop the existing keyboard out so that I don't break anything or unscrew anything I don't need to.

As for actual installation, I can handle that. Thanks a bunch.

So my computer won't turn on now thanks to the infamous faulty hinge design which ended up breaking the plastic on the left side and one of the little bolts ended up causing the complete malfunction of the fan.The last message I got was that the computer had to shut down because due to the fact that the fan no longer worked. So now my question is, where can I get this fixed? How much does HP charge? It is out of warranty but still this shouldn't have happened, they should at least repair my computer for low cost. It really is a great computer but how much to get this fixed? Who can fix this fan and get it running again?I tried and can't get all the pieces taken apart at the keyboard. I need to replace the fan and maybe some of the other plastic pieces though I heard HP way overcharges. I would rather fix this excellent computer than have to buy a new one. Also where can someone find used parts for these dv7's?

I just get a brief glimpse of the Windows 7 logo and it reboots. I've tried the repair option but that fails, with either the internal HD or by using the installation DVD.

I cannot boot into safe mode. The only drive I see with command prompt is x:\

I removed the battery and the HD and sent the laptop in for a repair to one of the hinges on the display. When I got it back, I put it all back together and voila... it won't boot. It won't repair. It won't boot to safe mode. I can't run chkdsk.

The only option I see right now is to remove the HD and see if I can pull off the data using an external drive enclosure. Then reinstall Windows7 and all the programs and data.

Any other options I have overlooked?

Answer:After repair to hinge, system won't start

Clearing the CMOS may be worth a shot. Remove the battery and power adapter then press and hold the power button for 15-20 seconds.

Hi,

Just wanted to determine my risk....  So I bought a Y40-80 laptop for my wife a little less than a year ago, and just from normal opening and closing, the left hinge has failed and eventually cause the cover to separate from the lcd.  I'm holding it in place using a big metal clip at the moment.

As far as I am concerned, this was the result of a manufacturing defect; I have owned many laptops over the years and have never had a hinge failure like this, let alone have it happen in less than a year.  It was not dropped, or abused in any way.  Looking on line I see a lot of complaints about this, e.g., on Y50 but not my specific model.

Anyway, when I chatted online with Lenovo support, after I sent them a picture, the guy warned me that it may not be covered under warranty since it is "physical damage"; I never knew that this sort of cop out language existed with respect to warranties on computers.  Accidental damage I agree, but this is clearly a defect in the product.

They sent me a box to mail it to the depot, and I just wanted to find out what would happen if they refused to fix it under warranty.  There is no way I am paying to fix this problem, but I'm concerned that they will hold my machine hostage if we reach an impasse.

Will Lenovo demand money from me to send the machine back?  If so, any idea what it will be?  I'm just trying to determine how much risk I'm willling to t... Read more

Answer:Y40-80 - Warranty repair for broken hinge

A little cart before horse here?  I think you're working yourself up about this when it probably isn't necessary.   They have to cover their asses and from a pic there's probably no way to tell if you sat on the thing when it was open.  If it's a design flaw (and I'm pretty positive it is), the tech will know it and your laptop will either be repaired or replaced.  I have many issues with Lenovo quality, but for a large corporation, their support has been alright.   Stop thinking about the laptop and it'll be back before you know it, keep obsessing on it like a pot of water that won't boil and it will feel like forever.  Good luck!

The magnesium rollcage on the left side of the display has broke when I tried closing the laptop. The hinge got somehow stuck, and I coulnd't close the lid, so I tried to apply a tiny bit of force. Unfortunately, being a very fragile and soft material, magnesium (along with the plastic part that holds the bottom left screw) broke. I have managed to get the left hinge moving again, but now the display is being held by only right hinge, which isn't enough to support a 15 inch screen. Oh and closing it is a pain. Lenovo say that they can't fix it for some odd reason, even though it's still on the warranty. (probably because they can't understand what i'm trying to explain). Though I didn't open it yet, I can conclude from looking at it that I'm going to need a new rollcage, new outer LCD shell (that black top lid), and a new set of hinges. I can replace it myself, fully understanding it'd void my warranty, as long as I get my laptop working again. I need it for work. Where can I get a new rollcage, outer shell and a pair of hinges? Thank you. This is a Thinkpad T500-2082 which still has 243 days of warranty.

I sent in my sl500 laptop to be repaired. The issue is that the left hinge between the base and the screen just started wiggling and seemed loose. It is my honest opinion that this is due to normal wear and use of the machine, which does nothing but sit on my desk. However, when the repair technician got the machine last week he has decided that it is a billable repair. I have now been waiting for four business days for any information as to how he comes to this conclusion. When these were IBM products and IBM service standards this would never have happened. My family has been employed with IBM since 1964 and we have never had such trouble with customer service. My laptop is now hostage at the service depot until the technician decides to provide me with photos that will apparantly show me how the issue is my fault and therefore not covered under the warranty which I purchased with the laptop a few years ago.To add, apparently when you call to talk with a supervisor they do not have one on duty during all the hours the service center is open for phone calls. One would think that that if you are open for business that st least a supervisor would also be on duty.

Answer:SL500 needs hinge repair - billable?

I have been raped by customer service.  after several days of waiting for checking, I finally received photos of the laptop which the repair technician says proves that the repair is billable.  Now it's my word against his and I am the one with the short end of the stick. I HAVE NEVER BEEN SO ANGRY BEFORE IN MY LIFE at the customer service I am receiving.  The machine in the photos looks NOTHING like what it did when I put it in the box.  There is absolutely NO way that I caused the damage that he claims I did. I am now at the mercy of whenever a supervisor wants to call me back to discuss the photos and for me to continue to plead my case.  This has been the absolute worst customer service I have every experienced in my life.  When Lenovo was IBM this would have never happened.  I have been an IBMer since 1969 with members of my family having worked there for 40+ years.

Yep, a total newbie here.  Use a T61P for desktop and portable... before a T40p (and I don't remember the one before that , LOL).  So, got my hands on a slightly damaged X24 from a corporate recylce pile, I would LOVE to put it to use as an internet surfboard, and possibly streaming music source.  It's an amazing little pad. I'm looking for hinge screws that fasten the hinge on to the LCD screen. I need the screws that hold the screen to part (2, the hinges) in the image here: http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?sitestyle=lenovo&lndocid=MIGR-39710 Where would I find out if that part (#2) includes the screws, or if the screws are available separately? Thank you.

Answer:Repair parts wanted... X24 hinge screws.

Lenovo sent me a whole bag full of screws for free two years ago.  I was unhappy with the Intel WiFi minicard that came with my X60 so I bought an Atheros card.  The Lenovo installation instructions say that you should not re-use the screws that were there originally.  So I called Lenovo/IBM customer service, and they sent me a bag full of screws.  Actually seven bags.  I would describe them as follows with the length of the threaded portions:1. black flat phillips head 1/8"2. black pan phillips head 3/16"3. black pan phillips head 1/4"4. black slotted head 1/8"5. silver phillips head 1/8"6. silver phillips flat head 1/4"7. silver jackscrews 1/4" It says on the outer bag FRU No. 41V9754You probably need to find the maintenance manual for the X24 and see what the FRU number is for the bag of screws. If you want to try some of these screws, and if this web site supports private messages, then send me a private message.

Having recently bought pretty much the most expensive XPS 13 you can buy I was pretty disappointed when I dropped in on the carpet (gently) and the hinge broke - stuff happens. It's my primary computer so I just want to get it fixed as quick as possible - money is not really an issue.
After paying $300 for the repair I now find out, after over a week, that it's going to take ANOTHER 7 - 14 working days to fix it.
That's totally unacceptable for me and, despite being a loyal DELL business customer for over 15 years that's the last one I will buy. How DELL think that  3 - 4 week turnaround on a PAID repair for a computer under warranty is acceptable I don't know.

Had this unit in for a warranty repair in January. At that time the right hinge was causing the case to seperate. It has made it to the beginning of April, and now the left side is starting to seperate. This unit never leaves the house, and has never been dropped, yet the excessive drag opening the unit normally creates seems to be causing issues. Clearly a design flaw.

Hey guys, the right hinge on my Lenovo G570 is broken. Right now it's pretty much lifting the top casing of my computer and my monitor is sitting askew. I tried calling Lenovo to get an estimate, but they told me I had to send it in and pay for shipping as well as an $80 dollar processing fee. I'm just curious as to how much parts and labor might come out to. What have you guys recieved for estimates?

Answer:Lenovo G570 hinge repair estimate

hi yutxz,

Welcome to the Forums.

The repair cost will depend on the parts that are needed to be replaced. If for example, the hinge, and the plastic part that holds the hinge (base cover) are broken, the service centers to replace the following parts:

Base Cover (for models with HDMI)
Base Cover (for models without HDMI)
LCD Hinge

So say you have the hdmi base cover+hinge model+one hour labor (say $25), then you're probably looking at a $85 quote (shipping / taxes excluded). Note that this is just an example. The reason why the tech. ask you to send it in is because the person in charge of the repair needs to see the damage and quote the necessary parts for the repair.

Hope this gives you an idea.

Regards,
neokenchi

To any staff, Long story short, the hinge on my Thinkpad T61p were getting loose (it was moving back and forth) and upon a quick serach, apparently it was a known issue on these laptops. As my warranty was nearing its end, I quickly called Lenovo to have this repaired. Because I was promised that this repair is going to be finished within 5-7 business days, I decided to go ahead and send it away depite that my major requires it 24/7. I've received a box next day and I sent it away on Jan 9th, 2008. I called in today to see what's happening but this employee, who rather got really irritated that I called in, couldnt find my info for 30 mins. After finally finding my info, he mentioned that the hinge is backordered. I politely asked him when I can get the laptop back but he said it could take days.. weeks or possibly up to months.  The sole reason why I sent this laptop for a repair was because they said the turnaround repair would be fast and I believed his word. It's quite dissapointing to hear these kind of delays in repair process when I need this laptop ASAP. There are actually 2 ongoing cases regarding my laptop but none of them are being solved at the moment. The 6 cell battery, which just died a few days ago, was replaced by a 9 cell from Lenovo. I called about this issue as well and hopefully they can get this straightened out. How long does it take for a "back ordered" parts to arrive at the depot? It's really hard to imagine how the depo... Read more

Hey guys,
After 6 months of use, the left hinge on my 7559 has decided to give up.
I've followed official manual to open the laptop and see what wrong.
Here's a photo and a video showing how 2 of the 3 screws holding the left hinge have failed:

drive.google.com/open
As you can see, the yellow copper thingies that hold the screws (not sure how they're properly called) have been pulled out of the bottom case. Only one screw that goes through fan and into palmrest is still holding up.
Could you give any advice on the best way to repair it? Would I need to get a replacement bottom case or is there way to just get new yellow copper thingies and put them in the sockets in the bottom case?

Cheers!

I purchased my mother a Gateway DX4860 a year ago. It is running Windows 7 Home Premium. It has been doing fine up until a month ago. It started going into startup repair, and saying that it could not repair it. So I did a system recovery back to factory. It worked for 1 week, then did the same thing. I tried system restore again, and it worked fine for a few days. I thought maybe the image was corrupt, so I downloaded Windows 7 from the Microsoft site and installed it using her code. Installed the drivers from the Gateway website. Everything seemed to work fine. I ran all windows updates and installed a fresh copy of Norton. Two days after I give it back to her, she says that it was installing 94 updates and that there was no antivirus, and upon reboot is was giving her the startup repair mess again. I've run Memtest86 and found no problems. Any ideas? I'm out of ideas short of replacing the motherboard or hard drive on a PC that is only a year old.

as for your initial problem, which isn't in the manual, try doing web searches for specifics, and usually there are alot of websites that have some sort of tutorial on how to remove/replace laptop components. There might even be the same or similar model as yours being used.

My lack of experience with laptops and the fragility of their parts has led me to break the CD-R/RW and the drive port it hooks into. None of the 3 swappable drives are recognized (floppy, DVD, CD). No power is getting to the port which does not surprise me because once I tried to insert the broken CDR/RW drive back in, the computer would "zip" when I pressed the eject button.

I'm quite confident that the motherboard and CR-RW need replaced. I'm told that I can only have Gateway service the laptop because of the proprietary product. Their quote to replace the motherboard is $695. At that price, it would be better to just get another laptop.

Does anyone have any other advice as to "saving" this machine? Is there someplace I can look to get the parts?

Thanks.

I restored my Gateway NV51 using my brother's Acer Aspire 5251's recovery disks, and it seems to be working fine. I was looking around the Internet and found out that it really shouldn't have worked, since they're different brands, and now my computer has a bunch of Acer software on it (Acer desktop backgrounds, Acer Games, Acer Updater, etc.). Will having my computer half think it's one type and half think it's another be a problem? The BIOS knows it's a Gateway, but everything inside Windows says Acer. I lost one of my recovery disks, and I don't really want to order new ones if I don't have to. Thanks!

I have a Gateway NV55C (SNID 03738258416) which came with Windows Vista Home Premium 64 bit. When it wouldn't boot I used the [F10] menu and selected ?repair retaining files? which seemed to get significantly into the repair then a window appeared stating Windows cannot be installed on this machine and did a restart. After that restart it it goes into what appears to be a Windows setup process for a few seconds then a dialog stating Windows cannot be installed on this machine appears and it does a restart. Now the ?repair? option no longer appears in the [F10] menu. My hidden recovery partition is present and appears to be intact, but I can no longer get to it (even ?Safe Mode, Command Prompt? boot goes into that setup then fails in the same way). On the Gateway support site it finds my SNID, but the 3 recovery CDs are no longer present for download and only Windows 7 64 or 32 bit appears in the OS menu. Is it still possible to download the recovery CDs or a repair/install DVD for Windows Vista Home Premium 64 bit? Alternately, can someone tell me what Registry entry, or bhoot option, is invoking that setup which fails?

Earlier I changed the BIOS order and it booted from XP reinstall disk and it started loading, but the darn battery died and the laptop shutdown midway thru the loading. It won't give me the 'press any key to boot from CD' prompt anymore. What could cause that?
I want to run a Chkdsk/f....how do I do that if I can't it to startup?

As I recall, pressing F11 will get you into the Gateway recovery program. We recently had this problem at work and finally traced the problem to a bad hard drive (although this isn't the only possibility).

So I got my buddy's computer here (Gateway GT5657E, running Vista), and when you try to start it says "Windows failed to start.." and it suggests to go to startup repair.

Then after it checks the disk for errors it says it "cannot repair this computer automatically" and then tries to start windows.

It starts with the microsoft (c) copy with the green progress bar, but it just keeps doing that, then it goes blank and then nothing.

So I tried repairing it with an Install disk.

Sometimes when it boots from the DVD it asks for a couple of options, then it says "Windows is loading files" with a long progress bar. After it's done it starts with the microsoft (c) copy with the green progress bar, but it just keeps doing that, then it goes blank and then nothing.

Other times it goes straight to the "Windows is loading files" with a long progress bar without offering any options and continues on the same path (windows green bar, blank, etc.)

Any ideas? Maybe a hardware issue?

What motherboard do I buy to repair my gateway mt6730 laptop?

Answer:What motherboard do I buy to repair my gateway mt6730 laptop?

Unlike desktop PCs, laptop hardware is pretty much unique to each model. Laptop mobos often have the CPU soldered on and most other hardware integrated. For this reason, the only suitable replacement would be a board from the same make and model of laptop and, unless you can find one secondhand with a broken screen etc., it's not going to be worth your money. If there is a small fault you might be able to have it repaired, but it's likely that it's time to buy a new machine.

My friend purchased a Gateway about a year ago. Last week when she turned on the computer this error message appeared: "Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt: windows\system32\config\system

She has a recovery disk from Gateway which I put in and rebooted. It tries to read the disk but goes no further - the drive just blinks and there is a blank grey screen.

I went into bios and made sure that the DVD and/or CD drives were to boot first. They are number one and two on the boot list and I have tried both.

I clicked on F12 which got me into system restore. It appeared to be moving along until it told me to put in the first recovery disk (there is only one). Again the drive blinks forever and then it opens the CD drive. The message to put in the first recovery disk has never disappeared.

I tried putting in a windows 98 disk so that I could get to a msdos prompt. I did and then typed it D: setup. It asked me if I wanted to abort, retry or fail.

I put the recovery disk in another of my computers to assure that it actually has files on it and it does. There are no scratches, etc. on the disk.

I thought I'd piggy back the hard drive. However, the cables are different from the cables I have on our four computers.

I tried putting in one of my XP pro disks to see if I could get it to start windows so that I could then use the recovery disk. Or if I could replace the folder so that Windows would start. When I choose repair, it asks me w... Read more

On start up in Windows 8, I get this message "Preparing Automatic Repair" which stays for a while, then the screen goes blank
and cycles itself through the process. I am unable to get past this screen and cannot enter the computer. Not sure if there is a way to enter via the Safe Mode as I do not know how to get there. The Gateway laptop never came with any recovery media and only utilizes USB ports as there is no access for a CD.

Hey everyone,

So I've got a gateway laptop here that one day was booted up and went to a boot menu screen stating there were errors with the option to launch startup repair. After doing so there has been no sucess, after a looooong process of checking for errors, it says it's unrepairable, says to exit/reboot and goes back to the same screens.

I've tried with a Win7 disc in there (vs using the recovery option built into the laptop) and still no success. I've tried restore to an earlier restore point with no success. I've tried to get into safe mode with no success and I've tried the 'last known good configuration' option with no success either!

I booted using 'spinrite' to do a deep check of the HD itself. It gets about 6-7% in and than suddenly completely shuts off! Powers off as if someone yanked the plug. The Cpu area and heatpipes underneath are VERY hot after this point so I suspect it's an overheat protection kicking in, but why it's overheating while running spinrite I can't figure out.

So I removed the HD and have connected it to my PC. It was accessible, could see the win and system folders etc. I right clicked the drive from my PC now and ran 'tools' error-checking. It makes some progress while counting sectors but eventually gets to a certain sector number and hangs there with no further progress of the error check.

At this point I'm planning to just yank any important files off of it (since it's still accessible when plugged into my PC) and reformat... Read more

I have two issues that I hope you can assist me with.  The first paragraph below is for the first issue.  The second paragraph below is for the second issue.  I appreciate any assistance you could provide.

On 4/2/2016, I placed an order for a new display back cover and a set of hinges in the HP Parts Store.  My HP [personal information removed].  Total order cost = $233.91 in US dollars.  I paid for the parts already via credit card and the parts were delivered to me.  A friend of mine repairs laptops as a full time occupation.  She was planning to help me repair the broken laptop hinge and replace the back cover so part of the replacement hinge would be protected when I transport the computer.  Unfortunately, my friend found out that her sister was diagnosed with terminal cancer after I received the parts from the HP Parts Store.  My friend has been spending lots of time caring for her ill sister and her elderly parents in their 80s.  She is unable to help me repair the right hinge and back cover of my laptop.  The parts have not been touched and they are still in the boxes.  I would like to return the parts and receive a credit applied to my charge account; however the HP return policy states that parts must be returned in 14 days.  The HP Parts Store also charges a restocking fee.  Can you assist with this return transaction?  I would prefer to not pay the restocking fee.

It started when I was browsing the internet yesterday, my computer started to hiccup, and it eventually froze. I tried everything I could but I ended up shutting it down entirely using the power button. Later that night I tried to boot it up, and it came up with the 2 options, try startup repair, or start windows normally. I tried starting it up normally first, but at the "starting windows" screen, it flashed the blue screen for a millisecond, and It rebooted automatically, bringing me back to the screen with the 2 options. This time I tried to run startup repair, it brought me to "windows is loading files". After this, the screen goes black, and does nothing. I left it on the blackscreen overnight to see if anything would happen, but nothing did. I then created a repair disc using my other computer, but booting it from that yielded the exact same results. I have windows 7. Please help me, I have over 3000$ of software on this laptop, and I can't afford to lose it.

I should hope that there has been a recall on this. HP should at least repair the issue free of charge (waranty or no waranty). I take great care of my things and my computer is no exception. Hello,

I've been unable to access my custom build computer since around 5:00 yesterday. I chose to restart my computer at around that time just because it was slowing up a little and I usually do that to help, I had not installed any updates or new programs since 2 days ago when there had been a few windows updates.

Upon returning to my computer I noticed that it had been unable to startup and had gone straight into system repair with it being 'unable to repair this computer automatically.' I rebooted several times and noticed that it was not a visible BSOD but as soon as the 'starting windows' icon began to appear it went straight into startup repair. I tried to boot into safe mode, tried to load previous good configuration and all of the other advanced recovery options (including system restore/image and many command prompts).

This is what it shows after being unable to repair automatically:

Windows 7 Home Premium (x64) Service Pack 1 (build 7601)
Hello:
At the beginning of Sept 2012 I posted a BSOD thread here that was eventually resolved. The situation then, as now, was/is that I received an error about Windows Desktop Manager then went to BSOD. I received some great assistance by a 7 Forum Adviser but still could not resolve the problem. This included 36 hours of driver verifier, chkdsk, scan, etc and attempts at restore and repair.

I received a suggestion to re-seat my Memory Chips by another adviser and then then told to repair with the Windows install DVD. I did not have one but I was able to create a bootable DVD-R and USB Flash. The USB would NOT boot but I was able to get the DVD to go into upgrade and the files reloaded, which allowed the laptop to begin working again.
Two days ago the BSOD reappeared. Without going into more detail of what I have tried, I am posting here hoping for assistance.

I am attaching the Grab All zipped file as well as a BSOD file created in Niro's viewer.

You might be better off doing a clean install. You won't need to enter the key as its already been associated with your computer.

Backup any files you want to keep first.

I am not certain but it may take the install files from the recovery partition (perhaps someone can confirm this), I know this worked with a recent HP job I did.

as stated in the title, the laptop will not boot windows. every now and then it will try to. it will work its way passed the gateway splash screen and the screen will go black with the white dot progress indicator in the middle of the screen and there it will stay till you turn off the computer. however there are times that it doesnt even make it off the splash page.

the lap top is not mine so i do not know any of the specs of it off hand the casing does not have a model name/number. i do know it is running windows 8.1 and that this issue occurred after waking the laptop up from hibernate. i know this is not much to go off of but any help regarding this issue would greatly help me out. thank you.

Ok, I'm trying to get a Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit boot repair disk. I have all the reinstall disks to do a back to factory settings that was purchased from Gateway(Acer) but I do not have a boot repair disk to fix the "UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME"  on the BSOD.  I tried to contact Microsoft and provided the Product key on the laptop, but was informed that I would have to contact the manufacturer because it was a preloaded Windows 7. I think it is wrong of them not to help since it is their OS that is causing the problem. But none the less I tried contacting Gateway but after holding for an eternity and never actually getting a human only to be disconnected it is getting very frustrating!

After finally figuring out how to reach the BSOD (never thought I would be glad about getting the BSOD)ha) to see the information it supplied. Then finally finding out for sure I have the 64 bit, all I need now is the Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit, with out the Service Pack 1 attached to it.

Unless I have been misinformed on another site and I CAN use the 7 Home Premium SP1 to boot from. Will I mess up my chance of booting the laptop back to life and out of the endless loop if I use the SP1? I don't want to make matters worse since I do not think it was updated with the service pack before it got stuck looping on the Windows Error Recovery Screen. I still can not get to any files in any of the usual ways...as in F8 , Alt/F10 or any of the other way... Read more

Installed ATA with no issues or errors. I've got a physical server running ATA Center and a separate physical server running ATA Gateway, and my Domain Controller is a physical server on the same network and VLAN.
I have two ports on my switch connected from the Domain Controller to the switch, and two ports on my ATA Gateway connected to the same switch.
For simplicity, port 1 and 2 on the switch are connected to the Domain Controller, port 3 and 4 are connected to the ATA Gateway.
Port 1 is set as a monitored port and port 3 a mirrored port in Mirror Group ID 1 on the switch.
Port 2 is set as a monitored port and port 4 a mirrored port in Mirror Group ID 2 on the switch.
I have confirmed with NetMon that bi-directional traffic can be seen between the Domain Controller and the Gateway on one of the NICs, but not on the other. I think this is due to there not actually being any traffic down the other as it is for redundancy
I believe.
The Gateway has successfully discovered the domain, DCs, users, computers etc, but I am not seeing anything in the timeline as yet (I realise I may need to wait a while for some actual events).
I also keep getting a high error: "Gateway not receiving network traffic", saying that the Gateway is not receiving mirrored traffic every half an hour or so. Could this be the interface that is connected to the redundancy port causing the error?
Since it is possible that no traffic is actually going down that port? ... Read more

I've installed the Microsoft ATA Gateway on a dedicated server in a lab environment. The gateway shows a status of "Stopped" in the ATA Console configuration tab. On the ATA Gateway itself, the Microsoft Advanced Threat Analytics Gateway service
will not start. I keep getting the following error: "Windows could not start the Microsoft Advanced Threat Analytics Gateway service on Local Computer. Error 1067: The process terminated unexpectedly."
I get an Event ID 7031 error in the windows service logs that says: "The Microsoft Advanced Threat Analytics Gateway service terminated unexpectedly. It has done this 1 time(s). The following corrective action will be taken in 5000 milliseconds: Restart
the service". The service continually fails to start.
I'm not sure if this is related, but I also get the following error in the Microsoft.Tri.Gateway-Errors Log: "Error [AsyncResult]System.ServiceModel.Security.MessageSecurityException: An unsecured or incorrectly secured fault was received from
the other party. See the inner FaultException for the fault code and detail. ---> System.ServiceModel.FaultException: An error occurred when verifying security for the message."

I'm using Windows Server 2012 R2. The Gateway is installed as a stand alone server with port mirroring configured for the capture NIC.

I have been given an older gateway computer to fool with. Origianlly nothing worked. I was able to find the mother board for it on the net and I replaced it. Now it will turn on and I get the logo screen and press F1 to make changes and For system info press the tab key. I can do both of those things. It won't let me make any changes though. It is recognizing the hard drive, the floppy, keyboard, mouse, CDROM etc. After that screen goes off I get a blinking cursor in the upper lft corner and nothing more. I have tried putting the windows 98 start up disk in and booting from that but the same thing always happens as listed above. I also tried booting with the windows xp disk. The original computer had windows ME. Several days ago I had posted on the software forum thinking it was a software problem. Finally one of them told me it was beyond their expertise and must be a hardware problem. Does anyone have any suggestions? No matter what I try I end up with the same blinking cursor and nothing else.

I received an error in that ATA console stating that one of my lightweight gateways is no longer communicating.  I've seen this error before, and in the past I connected to the DC in question and restarted the Gateway services, and this resolved the
issue.  However in this particular case, the Gateway service will not start.  When attempting to start the service I get the following error.

I was given a Gateway GM5066E to try to fix. I first removed the case door and blew out the dust. I then reseated the memory sticks and power and data cables to the hard drive and motherboard. I noticed that the hard drive had power supplies connected to it for SATA and PATA. I disconnected the power cable for the PATA. I attempted to boot the computer up, but it only beeped three times and stayed where it was at. I narrowed the problem down to two of the four memory sticks were incompatible with the other two. I removed the two 512 MB Samsung sticks leaving two 1GB Kingston sticks and then tried to reboot again. Once again three beeps and freeze. I then discovered that one of the 1GB memory sticks was bad. I removed the bad one. I then removed the battery and reset the BIOS and CMOS by moving the BIOS jumper to the 2 & 3 pins. I rebooted the computer which came up to the BIOS setup screen. I cleared any passwords and made sure that it was setup to boot first to the CD/DVD Rom. I saved changes and exited I then moved the BIOS jumper back to the 1 & 2 pins. I tried a restart only to watch the monitor stay on the "NO PC signal" black screen for 30 seconds or more. After that the screen went black. After a minute or so I hit the "ENTER" key. The screen then went to the green Gateway screen. The mouse would move around the screen normally, but I could not get to any other screen. The hard drive activity LED was flashing like it was loading up programs.... Read more

Answer:Solved: Gateway GM5066E Will Only Boot To The Gateway Screen

Welcome to TSG!!

With all drives disconnected and any cards besides the video card (unless video is onboard) removed, power up and observe. It should go through the POST (or maybe the Gateway splash screen blocks it out), then attempt to boot. With no boot devices available, it should let you know that, and prompt something like <F1> to retry or <F2> to enter Setup.

I've had a Gateway NV78 Laptop for about a year now and have never had any problems. Today, when I turned it on it got stuck on the black screen with the Gateway logo showing, and on the bottom left corner it says "Press <F2> to enter setup". If I press F2 it then says "Please Wait...", but nothing happens, the screen just stays frozen like that. I turned it off and on a few times and the same thing happens. I removed the battery and waited a few minutes but then the same thing happened. I have no clue what's going on here. The computer was fine yesterday and now today I can't even get on. Anybody have any idea what's causing this, or how to fix it? I do know that there was a BIOS update that the computer kept telling me about that I hadn't updated yet. I don't know if maybe that has something to do with it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Answer:Gateway NV78 Laptop stuck on Gateway Logo

Are you sure about bios update message? If so, where from (before windows or in windows). I've never heard of machine telling user about bios update - the reverse in fact (if you go on manufacturer's site there's usually lots of disclaimers and 'don't do it if everything is ok' messages. If you can't even get into the bios settings then it sounds likely motherboard/processor problem (which is generally expensive to fix). Have you tried removing the hard drive (usually accessible underneath the machine under a plastic cover with screws - but all laptops are different, may not be). If you can, do and see if it will let you into bios (which if it does would indicate a problem with the drive is stopping it loading.

my gateway laptop is not loading past the gateway logo i try to put it in safe mode and all it does is make these load beeping noises. Nothing is happening . before all of this happened while the laptop would charge it would make the same beeping noises but when i unplugged the charger it would stop. after a while it stopped charging and when loading it would say battery critically low. now it wont even say that it just goes to the gateway logo and stops there.

I have 2 RV042's in a lab that Im trying to get a gateway to gateway tunnel setup.

I have 2x comcast connections in the lab for testing, each with static IP's.

Ive set these up before with no problem.

The setup is very simple. Ive gone over it practically 100 times.

At this point its just stuck at waiting for connection.

Heres the stange part:

The VPN logs in both devices are EMPTY. Its like they are not even trying. In the past when I have set these up, it took a few minutes to get everything working perfectly, but the VPN logs were full with all kinds of stuff. (long before I got the tunnel to connect)

Is this normal?

I made sure that the "disable firewall for true static ip subnet only" is checked on both comcast gateways and tested opening a few ports in access rules, and traffic passes fine.

:edit: I know it looks like the public IP's might be the same but they are not. The static blocks are very close to each other but they are different. In fact the first 3 octets are the same. Would that be a possible issue? :edit:

Beating my head on the wall on this one.

Answer:Cisco RV042 gateway to gateway - routers not even trying to connect?

I've had that before setting up a tunnel between a customer's RV082 and their customer who I think had Cisco equipment on their side.
Was replacing a D-Link router with the RV082 at the time (tunnel was up on the D-Link). Now I'm replacing the RV082 with a ERL3 but that's another story.

First of all, re-power everything including the Comcast modems. Don't know why that made a difference one time but it did.
Second, even if the tunnel is down, try doing something like RDP from one side to the other. It may need to see "interesting traffic" to establish the tunnel.

The other thing is to go over the firewall rules... I don't remember if I had to do rules to allow one subnet to the other or not.
I can check the config later tonight remotely to see what the rules are if you need me to.

Make sure no typos in IPs or the key.

A few months back I got a Gateway FPD2185W HD monitor that works fine with my old computer (AMD2000xp G-force card with XP-OS). I picked up a new Gateway FX4710-UB003A tower (Intel quad core 64bit g-force card Vista home prem64bit-OS).

The problem, the Gateway computer will not work with the Gateway monitor. I have a small Acer monitor and it works fine with the new tower, and the Gateway monitor works fine with my old computer. Both using DVI cables to connect to the tower. I even replaced / returned the tower and the second one did the same thing, so it must be a monitor thing. I would like to use the Gateway monitor due to its large size. I have even tried to boot into safe mode, but with no signal from the first makes this is even impossible.

Gateway support can't help, and best buys geeks are no help at all. So can anyone give me some idea to what is the problem? There are no drivers I can find on the internet for the monitor, (standard PIP lcd drivers should work) One computer, maybe a video card, but two, has to be drivers, monitor, or some 64bit hassle.

So HELP! Anyone!

Answer:Gateway monitor won't work with Gateway computer.

Hi. How is everyone? I am having trouble with my wireless connection. I am using a D-link wireless card and a D-link modem/router. My wireless internet connection drops out about every hour, I refresh my browser, press reconnect to MSN Messenger and it is all good again. But every so often I drops out and won't reconnect, I need to restart the computer to get it connected again. When it does this, I press troubleshoot on messenger and it gives a message " Default gateway - your gateway appears to be offline ". Any ideas why this is happening? Thanks for your replies.

Each sim card has a dynamic ip but I have assigned a static ip to one of these (with the pogram not ip) but I can not attach to the 2 a static ip because the tunnel does not make me connection. I hope you can tell me what I'm failing please! I do not know how to solve it.

I have a gateway to gateway setup between two rv082 routers, and the tunnel is up and working fine, but I don't understand how to setup to see my domain from one office to the other, each office is on it's one static ip and like I said it is working. I have a domain at my main office and would like to see it and connect to computers (servers) at that location. my domain is internal only, do I need to setup a dyndns account and point is to my server or how does this work? I am lost a this point. I have a vpn setup and that works fine, but that is not what I want. I thought if I am at my other office and with a tunnel connection working I should see the main office computers. please help with detailed instructions.
thanks for any help.

Answer:Solved: gateway to gateway with rv082 router

So a network diagram would do wonders in understanding what you have set up.

When you say you have a tunnel up between two RV082 routers, you have a site to site VPN tunnel running. So I don't understand what you mean by having a VPN setup, working fine, and that it's not what you want.

If you already have a domain set up, you just need to add the remote computers to the domain. This will require that the routing work properly between the two sites using the site to site VPN tunnel.

Hi there.

I have 2 routers in 2 different cities.

Both routers get their IP address through DNS.

Router_A.DynDNS.Org (Local IP: 192.168.2.1) and Router_B.DynDNS.Org (Local IP:192.168.1.1)

I need to setup a gateway to gateway connection between both routers.

Any suggestions? I tried different things, but nothing works out so far.

Here's a screenshot of what I might think is the closest to the solution. But I could be all wrong. I'm trying to have Router_A connect to Router_B.

I'm a newbie in WAN stuff. Any help would be really appreciated.

Hello,

Great site. Long time lurker, first time poster. Anyway, I'm having an issue with my Gateway to Gateway VPN connection. I have outlined the settings for both sites and I feel I should mention that this was an established connection that was working until I came in this morning. Nothing has changed (as far as I know) but for some reason I am not able to reconnect. Can you see any reason why this would be? Of course I've changed the WAN IPs and Shared Key for security purposes.

Thanks!

Answer:Gateway to Gateway VPN issue - Was working, isn't nownow.

Have you looked at the router logs? There should be some entry in there stating what is breaking. It might be something with the Phase 1/IKE negotiation. But you'll have to check the logs to be sure.

I have an HP that continues to give me the blue screen of death. I have tried everything but after being up over 24 hours straight and having just now gotten another blue screen of death I am going to buy a new system. It is for business and I am going to drive HP crazy until they give me my money back.

What I have now is a 32 bit and one of the systems I am looking at is a 64. I also have a 64 bit laptop. My concern, will I have much trouble with the software? I have seen it as an issue occasionally but not a ton. Here are the specs on both computers so help me out here please

It's too hard to see them compared side by side so I am attaching a word doc.

Answer:Help me decide... Gateway SX2800-01 vs Gateway DX4200-09

Sorry to hear about your troubles!

The only issue that really arises from 64-bit operating systems is in relation to drivers. I have Windows 7 64-bit, and the majority of my programs are 32-bit and they run without a problem. If you run a 64-bit OS, your drivers MUST be designed for 64-bit Windows. If Gateway is selling you 64-bit Windows, than they have driver support for it. So to put it succinctly, you won't have any problem running 64-bit Windows.

Hello from today I cant establish connection between my 2 RV082 gateway to gateway VPN connection, all of a sudden it is not connecting.

I have same settings, I'm using "IP by DNS Resolved" in both, then I tried "IP address" also from both (I have from both sides static public IP) and still no connecting.

Now, I dont understand why I cant establish the gateway-to-gateway connection.

Thanks in advanced.

I am trying to connect two networks at two different locations via VPN. I have been trying to find the best way of doing this, but am at a loss.

Things I have taken into account:

I have a RVS4000 Gigabit VPN router at my side. Other side has nothing as far as hardware... yet.
I have contacted Comcast and they allow VPN's but all VPN traffic counts against my 250GB data cap.
Comcast's Home service does not let me get any static IP's.
Comast Business Class is a possible option (higher data cap and static IP's)
I have looked into Hamachi, but dont think this would be a viable data transfer/Backup solution.
Do not know much about OpenVPN.
Solution needs to be an always on connection (rock solid)where, every machine in both networks can see every other machine on all networks.
Main use will be transfering Backups between two unRAID servers, but there will also be times when it is needed to RDP, file sharing, and other meanial tasks.
Security should be kept in mind.

Does anyone have any advice to get me back in the right direction? I am all over the place in my thinking at this time!!

I have come across a situation like this.
I planned to install ATA Gateway to monitor datacenter DC traffic. These 4 DCs are physical blade servers resides in a single HP blade enclosure. And 2 switches in blade enclosure are connecting to 2 different physical switches. These 2 rack switches are
basic switches which doesn't support stacking or any other method to do port mirroring (RSPAN). So will it be possible to place a gateway?
Secondly, when I ran the sizing tool, lightweight gateways can be installed on these 4 DCs with hardware upgrades. I can upgrade RAM, but since these servers are old, I have an issue with increasing processors because processors are not available to be purchased.
The recommendation is to upgrade just 1-3 cores in a server.
So I want to know whether not increasing processors in DCs will adversely affect the functionality of LWGW and the DC? And any other good method to take care (GW or LWGW) of this 4 physical DCs?

I am using my cellphone because my computer is stuck in startup repair mode. I have windows vista.I can choose repair or normal, both run start up repair. It always fails after multiple attempts. I chose advanced options after failures and tried to do a hard drive restore to several different dates. It always says its successful and restarts, but goes into startup repair again every time. I have called ms tech support, and not surprisingly my problem requires advanced help that costs money. They did have me restart and push f8 to launch safe mode, but it ended up in startup repair also. I have agreed to pay them but set up an appt for next tues. They said i can cancel and get my money back if i want. They said my problem is fixable and my photos and files will be there. I just feel like i may have a better option and I'm hoping this website is it. I can restart my computer and give the details if its needed. I am desperately seeking your help and would definitely donate if you can fix my computer and i dont have to pay ms. I am not a computer idiot, but definitely NO expert.

Windows failed to start, startup repair cannot repair this computer, safe mode cannot load, chkdsk freezes, sfc scan cannot perform the requested operation

Hi, I cannot start my Windows 7 at all. With power on, the system tries to load up but: ' windows failed to start.A recent hardware or software change might be the cause'. Trying to open safe mode or last good configuration doesn't work, it goes automatically to startup repair but after about an hour trying it says ' Windows 7 Startup Repair Cannot Repair This Computer ' (tried a few times). After another reboot with a windows 7 repair disk in the drive I managed to open the recovery manager from the DVD instead of the HDD and tried all the options - system recovery does not work, i have no previous images of the system, I ran a scan on the memory - it was all clear but still windows not starting. Then I did CHKDSK and it froze at 11% on stage 4 of 5, that happened a couple of times so I decided to run an sfc scannow but another error: 'Windows Resource Protection could not perform the requested operation'. So I'm totally stuck and don't know where to go next, I've got no windows installation disk, only repair disk. Any ideas would be much appreciated!

Firstly, thanks for reading.

My PC runs Windows 7 x64. I built it myself about a year ago for gaming.

Occasionally running games I would BSOD and it would suck. I'd update all my drivers or try some game-specific fix and usually if I didn't fix it, I would just start playing something else until I remembered it and by then, some Windows update or my own tweaking or just divine providence would have stopped the bluescreens. A few games, like GTA IV, Bioshock Infinite and Spec Ops: The Line remain unplayable for me, as they constantly bluescreen no matter my alterations or updates, but that's another story.

My problem is with Startup Repair. I was playing Max Payne 3 last night, all was well, then BSOD. To note, I never actually see the blue screen, the video cuts and the audio stutters for a moment, then the computer restarts. But in the .dmp files they're always reported as BSODs. Anyway, I restart and do some other stuff, then turn it off for the night. Today, I turn the PC on, and it prompts me to Start Windows Normally or launch Startup Repair. I chose to repair, thinking it was probably time I let Windows have a shot at it for once.

Well, I'm sitting a feet away and watching the screen right now, and it's going through the third consecutive automatic repair. In the past few hours I've run memory diagnostic, gone through the Startup Repair Infinite Loop Recovery thread with the MD mybackup stuff, attempted chkdsk (can't due to a lack of write privileges, even... Answer:Startup repair couldn''t repair my pc BSOD error code 0xc0000221

Hi, you can only do an in-place upgrade repair install (keep progs, settings) having booted normally.

Can you confirm you have attempted System Restore using the advanced troubleshooter options?

I think I can assume you don't have any disk images (we strongly and repeatedly recommend the routine use of disk imaging e.g. Macrium Reflect (free) which often gives you the means to recover relatively quickly even from disk failure without technical help).

The header checksum for this file doesn't match the computed checksum Error code 0xc0000221.

- have you run any sort of disk check? E.g. by booting from Kyhi's boot DVD/disk - at the top of the Software and Apps section- and using a tool such as Crystal Diskinfo to check SMART params (free, quick quick red/orange/green indication) - installer or portable version.

If your disk has failed, and you have no backup, you clearly need to take a different course of action and not try to fix what you've got.
