Monitor not showing output

Question: Monitor not showing output

So I was downloading a game . After the download finished a clicked on play to well.... Start playing and something wierd happened. My screen went blue (screen colour when nothing in being recieved) At first I thought it was the in game resolution so I tried pressing alt and enter to change the view from full screen to windowed. I also tried pressing alt and f4 to try and close the game but still nothing was showing. So I hard reseted my pc. The msi logo boot up shows normally but after the logo the screen stops showing anything. I tried changing hdmi ports and the first time this happened it fixed the problem. But because I'm stupid I tried booting up the game again and the same thing happened but changing ports didn't work this time. I tried everything but nothing has worked. If anyone could help it would be very appreciated. Also I can't boot into safe mode because I'm using win8.1 and also an ssd.

My specs: msi mobo
Gpu: gtx 760 2gb
8gb ram

Preferred Solution: Monitor not showing output

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have an S-Video port on my computer and I am going to run it to my 46" Projection TV.

What I want to know is how to switch b/t S-Video out and the VGA out so I can switch between my monitor and TV - is there a keyboard combination I have to hit (like on a function key on a laptop)?

I will only be viewing video files on my TV (so it won't be too often that I use the S-Video out port).

I remember doing this a while back, but it seems like I had to do a restart and unhook my VGA connection to get the S-Video feed to work - there must be an easier way.

Thanks ALL!!!

Answer:Switch b/t VGA Monitor output and S-Video Output

Depending on the card, I am personally better versed with ATI, but I know my Nvidia also, you can set up a dual display and set the S video to play all movies at full screen, and through the control disable the TV when not in use.

I have an ATI Radeon 4670 card. I have not had trouble getting it to "Dual Display" in the past. Usually I wanted to do an extended display. I am now trying to get it set up with my HDTV with HDMI. I have added the Realtech drivers and HDMI adapter to the video card and have been able to get HDMI and digital sound to the HDTV, I am trying to get the two displayed as clones.

The problem I am having is after getting Catalyst to display the HDTV, I have lost the image on the monitor. In the process of trying to get it back to both displays I have accidently made the HDTV an extension of the monitor. Which is really a cluster as I can not get to the control panel to make any changes. All I have is the extension showing on the big TV but none of the controls. I tried rebooting in safe mode but was unable to access the catalyst control center as it did not boot in safe mode. The big plus is that in safe mode both screens are visible, but I can not undo the Catalyst settings. I am now running a system restore which will take me back to tomorrow settings, which is not ideal but better than not being able to access anything outside of safe mode.

How do I get the TV and monitor to display at the same time?

Hello everybody,

I hope everybody is doing all right and much better than me.

I wanted to ask something about audio.
How can I make the sound coming from my speakers like they are coming from microphone?
I guess you could say that how can make output coming like input?
I want to add a video entry to a journal, I can add the video, but I want the sound from the video added to the entry too.
I couldn't find a way to do that because it only records the sounds from microphones.
Another question would be how can make a song on my computer recorded as an audio journal?
What are the ways to do that?

Answer:Showing Output Sound as Input

I don't mind saying I'm confused. Where is the video coming from and where/what is the journal method of recording? Seems to me you could use Windows Live Movie Maker. As far as an audio journal, the Sound Recorder under Accessories should to it. You'll need a microphone plugged in and make sure it's assigned as a recording device.

I think I am doing something stupid, but I can't figure it out.  I have used my T40p for many years, inclunding using the external vga display to drive monitors and digital projectors.  For the first time, I wanted to use it to display dvds on a tv using the s-video output capability.  I have enabled the s-video and connected to the tv without a problem.  My desktop is shown on the tv correctly.  However, when I use dvd player software to show a dvd, the tv does not show the content.  The dvd content shows correctly on the computer display, but not on the tv screen.  If I use "full screen" display, nothing shows on the tv.  If I am only showing the dvd in a window, then everything else on the desktop is shown correctly on the tv, except the dvd window is blank.  Again, it appears correctly on the comupter display. I have tried various media player software, including intervideo WINDVD, and Classic Media Player.  I have tried both PAL and NTSC discs.  No difference. I suspect I am missing something obvious.  Any ideas appreciated. T40p 2373-G3U, 1600MHz, 1 GB RAM, WinXPP SP2. 1400X1050 LCD panel with ATI Mobility Fire GL 9000 display adapter.

Hi! Please help. Here is my issue in bullet points:
-Running my PC with a Radeon HD 7700 on Windows 8, main display is monitor in DVI port, secondary display is HDMI running to my LG TV for playing videos (only enabled some of the time in AMD Catalyst Control Center under "Desktop Management>Creating and Arranging Desktops")
-Normally, I enable the 2nd desktop (my TV) through the HDMI output of my video card easily. However, about a week ago I ran into an issue: while the OS detected the display, it only recognized it as a monitor in 640x480 resolution.
-I tried several things to fix the display issue, but was finally successful by changing the HDMI cable connected to the TV side to the second HDMI port on the back of the TV (that is, going from HDMI 1 to HDMI 2). This fixed the issue immediately.
-Good till yesterday. Now the HDMI 2 is no longer detected as a valid display. HDMI 1 (the original connected port) is still detectable, but it's still having the 640x480 max resolution issue (and no audio output as well).
-HDMI 3 on the TV currently works, but that is the final HDMI port on the TV, and I don't want to continue moving the cable without resolving the issue. I have tested the TV HDMI 1 and HDMI 2 ports with other hardware, and they seem to be working without fault with a DVD player or Media box, so I doubt the issue is surrounding my TV.

Please help me make sense of this! I'm really worried that I won't be able to use m... Read more

I'm hoping there is someone on the forum that might have had the same problem, and able to fix or any suggestions for me to fix this problem.

Recently I took in my computer and think I got rooked actually, as built a new one, but nothing like what I had. Okay, they sent home with no audio which is on board
ASUS P5LD2 - Premium. They wanted me to bring it back in, but really don't want to and trying to fix this myself. I just haven't had time, or would have fixed my problems before I took it to them. What a mistake, as never took any of my computers to nobody to fix before. Back to the problem though, I can not get audio to work. I've downloaded the driver, so did get the icon up on task bar, but has the x and giving message that "Audio Output device is not installed". Anyone know how I can get this problem solved. I sure would appreciate any help you can give me. I am running Vista Business. I really would love my audio for certain things, although I don't use often, I do need it. Thanks again for any help you can give.

Using an XPS Studio 16 recently the HDMI port I have been using to connect my laptop to my speakers has been acting up. After connecting to my speakers the output automatically shifts to the speakers, however there is no audio. When I open the volume control panel it shows audio output being sent to the speakers. So far, the only thing that has resolved this issue is a restart, however after restarting no settings changed from the time when the issue occurred.

I have made sure my speakers are searching for input from the port I have connected it to.

Any help would be appreciated. Also, tell me any information I need to give you in order to help you, help me.

Answer:HDMI Audio Port Showing Output w/ No Sound

When using HDMI, the HDMI needs to be set as the Default Audio Device in the Control Panel/Hardware and Sound/Sound Panel. If the "Speaker" is set as the default audio device there will not be any HDMI audio.

Answer:"No audio output device is installed" has been showing for days. Please help

Try using Lenovo Driver Matrix and putting exact laptop model number in search. Try ThinkVantage System Update and see if it suggests correct drivers, but driver may not be the reason. Check if sound is enabled in BIOS? Also you didn't mention OS. If you want to check that it's not a hardware problem, burn a livecd, try booting from it, and check that sound works.

My laptop's sound isn't working, and when I mouse over the speaker icon in the corner there's a red X with the message "No Audio Output Device Installed." I've looked on other forums for the solution and here's what I've tried so far:

-I've been told to disable and enable the sound device in Device Manager, but there's nothing under "Sound Video and Game Controllers"

-I've tried to reinstall the audio drivers (Realtek HD Audio and Conextant HD Audio). The Realtek driver says it installed correctly, but it still doesn't show up in device manager or anywhere else and the "No Audio Output" message still persists. The Conextant driver gives me the error message "Cannot Find Device" when trying to install it, but I've noticed something weird: I can see a Conextant HD Audio thing under "Add or Remove Programs".

-Windows Audio is running under Administrator Tools, I've checked.

-I've done a system restore back to factory settings and it still doesn't work.

My laptop is a Hp Pavilion dv6700z with Windows Vista Service Pack 1. I think a windows update might have screwed it up; I can hear a popping noise when plugging in my earbuds and I can hear the error beeps under system setup, so the speakers themselves work. Can somebody please help me out?

I recently bought a DVI cable to plug my external LG monitor to my laptop to run nVidia's DualView (stretch format) across the two monitors. I'm using a beta driver (169.04 from, and when I enter nVidia control panel and go into the setup additional monitors tab, it only lets me choose "choose only ONE monitor". So I did that just to test that my monitor was plugged in right, and it worked. So I KNOW that my monitor is working and is being recognized by Vista. But when going into display settings byt right clicking on my desktop, it also only recognizes 1 monitor. Is it my beta display driver messing my Vista up? Or what could it be?
Any help would be greatly appreciated

Thank you

Answer:Solved: Dual monitor in Vista not working. Only showing 1 monitor.

for drivers to work properly in vista i'm pretty sure you have to have signed drivers, since it's beta are you sure they are signed?

A couple of years ago I bought a used corporate desktop PC with Windows 7 and used it for a while. Then I bought a new laptop and I haven't used the desktop since. Now I need to get a couple of programs off the desktop. But when I turn it on nothing shows on the monitor. The computer sounds like it's booting up okay.

I am using the very same monitor that I used before when it was working. (I am typing on this monitor right now (with the newer computer)). This desktop has a large port for a monitor that you connect a splitter connector to and then connect the monitor to one of the two smaller jacks coming out of the splitter connector. As I recall. when I first bought the computer I connected my monitor to a monitor port on the computer which fit the monitor's cable and it didn't work. I contacted the seller who told me to connect it to one of the splits and it worked.

But for some reason now it's not working. It could be something simple. It may have something to do with the 2-monitor configuration of which I know little.

So my question is how can I proceed toward seeing what's going on on this Windows 7 desktop computer enough to retrieve several Visual Basic programs?

Answer:Nothing showing on monitor after not using 2-monitor cmputer fr awhile

This is probably a very stupid question, but have you got the monitor turned on?.

Question: No monitor output

HP Presario SR1830NX with ATI Radeon Express 200 video card - 6 months old. There's no monitor output today (monitor displays other computer output nicely, cables replaced). Never seen this one. How does one diagnose the computer in this sutuation?

Answer:No monitor output

So do you get the post and the "INVENT" label? or just nothing? In this situation I use a second testing computer and go through each part to make sure what's working. Need to call a PC friend and see if you can use their (compatible) pc for a few minutes. You can reset the bios by removing the battery for 15 seconds or so. Just one of the usual steps. If all hardware checks out O.K. then get your Windows disc out (if you have one). I hope it turns out to be an easy fix. Good Luck.

Hi everyone, so I'm having a problem with my self built PC. The PC turns on and the monitor and about 30 seconds to about 2 minutes in, the monitor cuts but the PC is still running. So what I do is just turn it off and and on again but I came across the same problem over and over again. My specs (don't laugh)

Amd radeon hd6450
Samsung 4gb ram
Core i3-2130
500w PSU from trendtech
Apple cinema display

Things I've tried to fix it:
Reconnect the cable
Clean ram, CPU and GPU
Cleaned all slots
Reassembled the PC
Changed the plug
Used another monitor and PSU
Resinstalled everything

I'm beginning to feel hopeless about this building. Any help please.

Answer:Pc on but no monitor output, HELP?!

Which of the 3 video connections are you using?

You said you tried a different monitor and had the same problem, so it's obviously not the monitor.

Have you tried a different graphic card and/or the motherboard's integrated video port?
The problem may be with that AMD graphic card.

Ok, so my and a group of friends tried to overclock my Emachines W3052 as a research project for school. I know not the best for oc'ing but oh well. After we changed the settings and frequencies like 100 times, the motherboard was done (so i thought). Windows wouldnt load up and the LED on the monitor would flash on and off as if the pc was on standby. I bought a cheap replacement Motherboard seeing as it was for my parents when i go to college. The motherboard was a: PC CHIPS M848A (V5.0) A (462) SiS 746FX ATX AMD Motherboard. Still compatible with my Socket A AMD Sempron processor and PC3200 RAM. I purchased an: EVGA 128-P1-N320-LX GeForce FX 5500 128MB 64-bit DDR PCI Low Profile Video Card. I put all this stuff in, everything was plugged in correctly and the computer turns on, but the monitor LED still flashes on and off. This leads me to believe that i replaced everything but the problem: The Processor. If anyone has any ideas or insight on this problem, please share. Thanks in advance

Answer:No output to the monitor

Did you clear the CMOS, on the first board? And then on the second board and problem remained for both?
Reseated the Video card?
Tried different RAM or at least a different RAM Slot?
Have you tried a different power supply?

Try A different monitor. Its always a dangerous op connecting to tv. when it failed you should have powered off the computer by pressing power button to initiate shutdown. (not holding button for 5 seconds) then when you power it back on use safemode/vga mode to reset default monitor config.

sounds to me like it has distroyed your monitor.
when you reboot if the HDD led activity is normal, then it is still likely that your Mainboard is still OK, try a different graphics card or use onboard if your Mainboard has one. if all fails then all you can do is to reset your Cmos and try a different processor. if that does'nt work then your Mainboard and possibly processor has had it. Hope this is helpful.

I'm posting this in software because I hope it's an easily solved software issue.

I bought DVI-I(m) - VGA(f) adapter recently, and I was using my XFX Ge6200 (PV-T44A-WANG) card to test it. The VGA output from the card apparently works fine, has done for years.

So I connect the adapter to the DVI-I output of the graphics card, and plug the VGA cable into the VGA of the adapter, but my monitor gives me the message 'No Signal' for a couple of minutes and goes black.

What do I have to do to make the signal be present ? (if it's not a hardware failure somewhere)

Answer:No DVI output at monitor

Well, VGA is analog and DVI is digital. If memory serves, bucking a DVI to VGA or vice versa is as simple as an adapter. Going the other way if you have DVI-D requires converting the analog to a digital signal.

I was having problems with Computer A, a driver issue, windows wouldn't boot when I installed the nvidia drivers. So I tested the card was OK by putting it in an other machine (Computer B) The card checked out fine and I've since fixed the problem with Computer A.

So now I put the old card back into Computer B and now there is no output to the monitor. At first it came on but didn't seem to be booting (no beep). I had a poke around inside and it seemed I'd knocked the catches on the ram, I secured them back in place and tried again.

5 seconds after turning it on, it beeped, then every 10 seconds after that, but still no monitor output and the floppy drive light stays on constantly.

I tried a different cable, monitor and card - still the same problem, so its none of them.

My monitor is fine and the processor is up, but no output on the Montior. What would be the problem. My wild guess is with HDD. To ensure that my HDD LED is not in operation. How to check if its HDD. Whether the problem is entirely different ?

Thanks in Advance,

Answer:No OUTPUT on Monitor, CPU Is UP.

Are you using an onboard graphics adaptor (physically part of the motherboard) or a seperate one connected in an expansion slot?

Double check the cables from PC to monitor are connected securely. With the machine turned off open it up and check the graphics card is seated correctly and firmly in its slot (if its in a slot and not onboard), remove it completely and re-seat it to be sure.

Are you 100% sure your monitor is fine? Have you tried another one to see if it makes a difference?

I assume you are getting power to the machine as you say the 'processor is up'. Is it actually booting though? Can you hear the hard drive being accesses shortly after you switch the PC on?

How exactly did you turn it off? I just tried disabling the monitor in the Device manager and I still picture on the screen.have you tried starting the computer in safe mode?

I'll make it simple. Nothing's appearing on my monitor. At all. I turn on the computer, nothing appears. I can hear (and see) the CPU fan, chassis fans, and power supply fans turn on.

... Nothing appears on the monitor. And the optical drives don't spin up. (My video card doesn't have a fan, it has a heatsink, I have no idea if that's getting power.)

I removed -EVERYTHING- except the power supply, motherboard, and CPU. It wouldn't even beep at me.

I know the power supply works. I know the memory works. I know the video card works. Those all came from my -old- computer (which I'm still USING, since the new one won't boot).

I even switched out the processor, and it did the same thing.

And a hard-reset doesn't fix anything.

I sent back the motherboard, they tested it, said it worked fine for them. They sent me a new board anyways. Still does the same thing.

I have no idea what's going on. Here are my specs:

Mobo: Asus A7N8X-E Deluxe
CPU: Athlon XP 2800+ (Thoroughbred)
Memory: 256 PC2700 Crucial DDR RAM
Video Card: GeForce4 MX440 64MB
Power Supply: Antec SL400
Hard Drive: Western Digital WD800JB

Answer:No output to monitor, no beeps

Did you check the standard items, such as: no false contact between the mobo-supports and mobo, properly connecting the small cables for speaker, reset, power etc. ? No part of the mobo even slightly bent by tightening the screws too hard?

Does your mobo have a speaking POST that can be switched on with a jumper?

Try to connect the mobo while it is lying on its anti-static wrapper, rather than inside the case.

Im running 7 on my laptop, and im trying to get it to output only to my external monitor when the lid is closed. I can get it to extend my desktop, but when i close the lid, it turns off the external monitor. I have set Windows 7 to do nothing when lid is closed. Is there anyone else with this problem?
I have an Dell Inspiron 1525, with Intel x3100 integrated graphics, if that helps.

Answer:Cant output to external monitor only

Hi & Welcome to the Forum,

There typically are 3 settings:

1. Notebook Only
2. External Only
3. Notebook & External (extend or clone)

Have you tried to switch before closing the notebook lid to both 2 & 3?

Think on most dells its FN + F8. Try pressing FN +F8 to display only external before closing notebook.

Lastly, have you checked to make sure the notebook is staying awake when lid is closed?

I just finished building a new computer (my first build)

Everything powers on: CD/DVD Drive, Motherboard lights up, Chipsetfan, CPU fan, Case fan, VGA card fan...they all spin.

Still there is no output to the monitor. The monitor acts like it is in sleep mode with the power button blinking. The monitor works on another PC, so I assume its not a bad monitor.

I am using:

Motherboard: Abit AN8 nForce4 Socket 939 Motherboard
CPU: AMD Athlon 64 3200+ Venice Core Socket 939 CPU
VGA: MSI GeForce 6600GT 128MB DDR3 PCIe w/DVI/TV-OUT
RAM: 2 x Kingston 512MB Non-ECC, CL3 PC3200 DDR 400MHz
Case/ power supply: Premium Silver 2526 ATX 400w 20/24 pin Mid-T / Handle
Additional: 2 x Powmax Case Fan 120mm x 120mm
DVD/CD Burner: DRU-800A Internal Double/Dual Layer & Dual Format DVD Burner
Hard Drive: Seagate Barracuda 7200.7 ST3120022A 120GB 7200 RPM 2MB Cache IDE Ultra ATA100 Hard Drive
CPU Fan/ Heatsink: Thermaltake for AMD Athalon

I've seen the threads about a possible short on the motherboard, I will have to check that this evening and post back here.

Could the VGA be bad? Not enough power? (using a 400 watt ps that came with the case)

Answer:New Build, no output to monitor

I can't help you, but I can say that the same thing happened to me, and I still haven't been able to fix it. I'm taking it to computer renaissaince today and let them do a free diagnostic. Merc helped me figure out that the motherboard could possibly be bad. However, check the forum labeled "6600 problem" and merc listed a ton of things you could do. They didn't help me, but they could help you.

When starting up my PC this morning, I got nothing showing on the monitor except the monitor's own self-test messages. I've tried another monitor with another lead but get the same result.

The PC has 2 dual-monitor graphics cards, although the second card is disabled. I tried hooking up the monitor to the second card to see if I got the start-up BIOS messages, but still nothing. (From a hazy memory all monitors used to show the initial start-up output even when disabled, and switched off again after windows loaded).

I am pretty much stuck for ideas now. Is there anything else I can do?

Answer:No output to monitor on start-up

I assume no on board video, if you do have it, the video may go there.
Have an old video card? give that a try
Check the monitor is set to the correct input
Try power cycling your monitor after the computer seems up and running

Post your system particulars, esp motherboard, vid cards, power supply, monitor

Following the release of the new intel chips i bought my self:

EVGA 650i motherboard
2gb xms2 ram

I have had problems from the start with it first being completely unreliable, so having to send it back to the provider with no out put going to the monitor.

They sent it back charging me an extra £20 on top of the £20 it cost to send it back by post as it tested "fine". I put the machine together, and to my suprise it worked. But after a week the output to the monitor became intermittent, sometimes no signal, sometimes the graphics card info would display and othertimes it would boot up like normal. It got to the point where it just wouldn't boot up whatever i did. So i sent it back again, they updated the bios and sent it back to me claiming that was causing the intermittent fault.

So i've put it together for the last time and it has worked for about 10 days, but now exactly the same thing has happened. No output to the monitor, even though its all the same kit.

I use my PC for gaming as i play counter strike semi proffessionally, so it is in use more than average i guess.

Does anyone have any idea what could be causing this fault. Bare in mind the gfx card works flawlessly with the old motherboard, cpu and ram.

The rest of the specs are

550w truepower2 (antec)
1 ide hhd
1 sata

thanks in advance.

OK guys need some help here I am trying to fix this PC, well a girl friend of mine, not my chick but a friend purchased this AOL pc system. Of course without consulting me. Well I dont know how long she's had it but she called me up the other night telling me it was not working. She said it would shut down after ther Xp logo appeared. To me that sounds like a virus off the bat. So i ask her to deliver her tower over at my place. Days later I hook it up at my home and to my surprise I am not getting anything on my
monitor. Strange I had this happen before with my dells internal VGA and realized I had to have the monitor connected before I started my pc. I also had this problem with another friend, I had ran out of option when fixing his pc so I gave up and took it to a shop. The guy at the shop told me that the ram was dissconnected causing it to not transfer anything to the Monitor. I trusted his knowledge since he did that for a living. So I figured this was the problem with this AOL pc, I checked all connections and nothing no image. My friend said this did not occur before she brought it over and that she was able to get an image. The only thing I can do is buy a VGA card and hook it up so I can get to work on this baby! Any one had this problem beofore? Juan.

I have a 5 or 6 year old desktop eMachines computer running WinXP. When first turned on, pilot light lights, fans run, HD spins up and monitor comes out of standby and displays “no signal” for a few seconds. Then the monitor goes back into standby without ever displaying anything else.

Monitor works normally on another computer.

I assumed it was a problem with the graphic circuitry on the MB so added a new graphics card. No change.

Is there anything else to check before assuming it is a bad MB and relegating the computer to boat anchor duty?

Answer:No monitor output....dead

Most internal card readers are connected to a USB header so that would not cause your problem. From your post you say it has a graphics card and onboard graphics. The onboard graphics will not work if you have a card in the PCI-E slot as it will be automatically disabled in the BIOS.Take your graphics card out, connect to the onboard port, set your BIOS to defaults and try again. How old is the mobo?.

LCD screen on Laptop is fine, no issues with it. Any suggestions to recover this?? B

I have a thinkpad G40 its been a great machine for years but have recently had external monitor output issues.
I have a external LCD monitor connected to the laptop. The problem is the signal cable and or the monitor output plug on the computer. The external monitor loses its color due to the bad connections with the pins. By moving the cable connection color will come back temporarily.
The monitor output plug seams to be in perfect condition I have tried several new cords with the same results. Could it be the internal pin connections on the laptop and if so can the plug be  fixed or replaced?

So my aunt has an old IBM Thinkpad Laptop. The monitor on it is unusable. She was hoping I would be able to salvage her files off the laptop. So I plugged in my CRT Monitor to the laptops output. During the bootup, it works fine. I get the old Win XP Login screen on the CRT monitor. But as soon as XP loads the image of the desktop goes back to the broken laptop screen and the CRT goes blank. Why does it work fine during boot but not once XP has loaded?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Answer:Monitor Output Problem

The reason is simple. XP is not setup to use the CRT Monitor as a 2nd display device. Which is why once Windows loads it disables the CRT and goes back to the laptop Display. You can easily remove the drive from the laptop and attach it to any other PC to get the files desired. Unless you specifically want to try and get a monitor working on the laptop. In which case you will have to fly blind and get the 2nd display operating without seeing what your doing.

I need to know as soon as possible.
Thank you.

Answer:Need some help FAST! [3 monitor output?]

Hi wbstein

I haven't heard of doing this with an nVidia card lower than a Quadro. Matrox has some cards that do three of more.

Two screens is, as you know, easy as pie. Three usually involves using two video cards, for lower-end models (on desktops, folks with use a dual-screen add-on card along with their onboard graphics).

The nVidia Specs mention spanning two monitors, but I haven't seen any mention of three. This is likely due to having just two RAM/DACs on the card.

Best of luck

I'm not entirely sure is this is quite the right forum but it's the clostest I could find (it's more a hardware thing than a gaming thing really).

Anyway, I want to run my Nintendo Gamecube on my PC Monitor instead of on a TV. I live in the UK so everything is PAL (console and games) and anything else that varies between countries will be the UK version/setting/whatever.

I have a Philips 170B5S 17in TFT Monitor which has CRT and DVI inputs. Is it possible to plug the GC straight into here somehow? Someone said it has DVI output but most things I've read say I need some kind of VGA Box or something. Alternatively my PC has a 3D Connect ATI Radeon 9800 Pro 128MB. Perhaps I can run it into this and through my PC?

I don't have my Gaecube with me at the moment (it's back at home while I'm in University halls) so I can't check what outputs it has.

I'm not massively bothered about quality but obviously it needs to be playable. I don't want to spend a load of money one of these VGA Box things or whatever they are, if it's going to cost me more than £20 on cables and whatever then I probably won't bother. I'm just trying to save some room in my Student halls by not needing a TV in there while still letting me have my GC.

Any ideas would be great.

Many thanks,

My PC has started randomly not outputing a signa; to the monitor when i switch it on from sleep.
When this happens, the power button and restart button have no effect even if you hold them down. The only way to make the machine switch off and work again is to switch off at the mains for 10 secs, then switch on again and wait 10 secs before pressing the on button. It then starts working fine and continues from the last sleep.

Hi there,I have a  T60 laptop which I have been using with a Dell Monitor as the primary monitor for the past few years. Recently the output has seemed to have stopped working on the laptop. I know the problem is with the laptop and not the monitor from playing around with different laptop & monitor combinations. I've downloaded the latest video drivers from the lenovo site but still cannot get it to work. The strange thing is that there is "something" being output to the monitor, i.e. when I plug out the laptop the monitor displays a "Self Test" icon but when the laptop is plugged in this icon disapears and instead it says "Entering power save mode". Any ideas??

Answer:T60 VGA Monitor output stopped working

you could try to use the bios setting, and set video output to vga + internal lcd, and see whether your external lcd works when it is just booting up, there is a chance that the vga port is broken. Do you still have warranty??

Ok so I could really use some help. I just received my new MSI 390x gpu and when I popped it into my Aurora R3 it will not boot. There is nothing on the monitor no bios ever shows up and no beeps and it powers off with one quick push of the power button.

Things I have tried already:
It is seated correctly with both an 8 and 6 pin plugged into it and the monitor is plugged in.
I have put the old card (amd hd 6990) back in and it will still boot up with it.
I have checked the BIOS to see if there is any settings for the PCIe. I do not have any integrated graphics so I cannot "turn that off".
I have uninstalled all amd drivers.
I even tried to install the correct drivers for this card to no avail.
My 875W psu should be more than enough for this card.
The card does power on, light up and fans do spin.

Things I have NOT done yet:
I have not updated the BIOS to A06 it is still at A05. With all I have read about people bricking their mobo updating the BIOS I'm a little hesitant to do it. (no warranty left on this system)
I have not attempted to put it into another PCIe slot as I would then have to move other stuff around like what I am assuming is my sound card. Which could be moved but the power cords might be a bit stretched.

Is this card just DOA? Should I go ahead and update the BIOS? If I update and it still doesn't work can I then safely assume that it is the card? I would really hate to get a new card and have the same issue.

Any advice would be greatl... Read more

All of the parts are known to be working and the pc was working before switches.

MotherBoard is a K8V Deluxe
AMD Athlon 3000+
PowerSupply 550W (it previously powered a X19050Pro 256

As of right now, all fans turn on (including the video cards) on boot up, but no output to the monitor. Only the video card, 1 stick of ram (512), 2 case fans and processor are currently plugged in. It does not make any beeping noises.

I believe connections to be good ( such as power and reset button connections) as they were working before and I did not change them.

Earlier the pc would not start. Only flutter once when I hit the power button ( attempted several times).I unplugged everything and powered on. It powered on (fans) and I heard a pop noise (sounded came from an unplugged power plug, I believe) I then plugged in a 9800 pro, but its fan did not come on (not enough power, I assume) . I tested on several of the power plugs to no avail. Switched to GeForce 2 ( doesn't require power plug in) and its fan turned on. The power plugs that could not power the 9800 pro do power the case fans.

This problem arose because I did some part swapping between this pc and another.

Thanks for any help

Answer:No video output to monitor, working VG

Did you move the Motherboard to another Case? If so, doublecheck that there are no Spacers underneath in the wrong position that may be shorting the board to the Case.

Have you tried a known working PSU? Often the fans will spin, the HDD powers up, but one of the other rails has blown -i.e RAM or CPU getting no juice. Seeing as you have no BEEP, this sounds likely

I use two monitors. Up till now I had audio output from the one which is not the main one (i.e. not the one with the start bar). Is there anyway to force video output to VGA if I can not see a monitor? Come to find out my Samsung "Smart TV" does not have Flash, so it can not play TV shows from Network websites. I was in the process of putting in a VGA splitter and sound splitter on the back of my H430 Win8-64 to connect a slick converter box that hooks a HDMI cable to the TV when I found the Lenovo already has a HDMI output. I tried it and it extended my Desktop to the TV and looked great except it had changed the resolution on my Desktop. I right-clicked the Desktop\GraphicOptions\Send Output to\Digital TV and my monitor went black and a Input Not Supported message bounced around.  The TV had my wallpaper, so I right-clicked it GraphicOptions\Send Output to\Monitor and it went black, but nothing came back to my monitor.  Reboot same.  Hold down F8 same. Computer seems to be running normally except I can't see anything. Any ideas?

Answer:Is there anyway to force video output to VGA if I can not see a monitor?

Update: If I unplug the HDMI cable from the back of the Lenovo, at boot the LENOVO splash screen comes on for about 2 seconds before the "Input Not Supported" message begins.

After recently installing a replacement motherboard on our old Pentium 586 computer the monitor doesn't seem to display anymore.

The video card is correctly installed in the correct PCI slot, but after booting the system, it resorts to suspend mode, and won't recognise any video ouput signal from the computer.

Is there anyway to overcome this?

Answer:Monitor won't recognise video output

Does it stay on while booting up?

Will it display in Safe Mode?

Have you checked Device Manager in Safe Mode for Ghost Drivers in Monitors and Display Adaptors?

Is it the monitor going into Suspend or the computer?

Have you tried another monitor on this machine?

Hi there, Before I explain my issue here's a bit of information on the system I am speaking of;
Product; Packard Bell iMedia 1437
Product No. PB34203201

This system has, in the past, had it's RAM upgraded, and a ATI Radeon 9550 256MB graphics card installed. Other than that there has been no changes made to this sytem. I have had this sytem for well over 3 years, and it has been in the cupboard for nearly 2 of those 3 years. As it is quite some time ago, all I know is that the system broke and I don't have the knowledge to fix it myself nor did I have the money to try and get the system repaired, so it's just been sat there - I remember from when it was not working, that when switching the system on there would be quite a few beeps (I remember at the time researching what these meant, which is lost to me now), and the system would then quite quickly become very loud and pack out a lot of heat. Turning it on now, none of this happens, so I was thinking hey presto, it's working again!

The other day, I noticed it sat in my cupboard, and thought I'd really like to get it working again as it was the system I'd use to play games on (I'm running a much slower laptop atm with no capability whatsoever). I just recieved an LCD monitor from my brother, ordered in a VGA cable and its working fine with my laptop. However, I have plugged in my old system, and the monitor to it, but there's no output coming up on the screen whatsoever, the moni... Read more

Cant output to external monitor only
Im running 7 on my laptop, and im trying to get it to output only to my external monitor when the lid is closed. I can get it to extend my desktop, but when i close the lid, it turns off the external monitor. I have set Windows 7 to do nothing when lid is closed. Is there anyone else with this problem?
I have an Dell Vostro 1500, with Nvidia Geforce 8400M GS video card, if that helps.
Also, I've tried the FN+F8 route and it does the same thing. Both screens go blank and the LCD TV (external monitor) says invalid format. Its almost like when the lid is closed it changes the resolution to a non displayable one. Happens with both FN+F8 and the lid close method. I never had this problem with XP. Please help.

Answer:Cant output to external monitor only (Different Issue)

For me this works only if I first disconnect the main (laptop) display, showing desktop only on external, secondary display. If both displays are used in extended desktop mode, closing the lid also turns external display off.

I am quite new to PDAs. Is there a unit that has wireless capabilities built-in and something like a docking station for lap-tops? id love to put it in a docking station, have it charge, use a full size keyboard, mouse, and most importantly, full size monitor. the video doesn?t have to be amazing quality, just enough for MS Office files.

Basically, I wanna play PC games with my headset while my gf can watch TV with HDMI on the TV. everything else works fine, but only the sound part, when I play PC games, the sound doesn't go into the headset, and they(PC game& MOVIE) both output on the TV.

Instead of buying a new TV, I've decided that I would like to use one of my computer monitors (Viewsonic A75f) for playing Xbox games. I see video cards and other products that will allow me to watch TV and plug a video cable into the computer, but that's not exactly what I want. First off, some of them require a fast computer, and mine has a processor speed of about 500MHz. Others were just way too expensive. I want to connect my Xbox directly to my monitor; no routing through my PC. I may have found a cheap solution, or this may just not work at all, but here goes. If I take the High Definition AV Pack for the Xbox and then plug this to it, will it work? The connections look like they'd all fit, but I'm not sure if the signal would go through alright. Would I run into any problems trying to do this? Thanks for any help.

Answer:Xbox component output into PC monitor?

im not really sure on what to say to this, but it looks ok to me so its up to you

When I turn on the computer I hear the fans and hard drive start up but when I turn on the monitor it goes green like its coming on then turns back to the orange standby light. I also don't hear a post beep!Could it be the CMOs battery or something else? Thanks in Advance.

Answer:No post beep or monitor output

I have a machine that had a similar problem , on complete shut down it only partly restarts. I half solved this by turning off pc unpluging the power cable and reseating the RAM yes I know this is a bodge but if this works it may expose the real reason for the problem which in my case was a BIOS update was needed.Bless you Pavel

Hello,My monitor on my laptop will not display anything except when I turn it on where I have green lines down the right half of the screen but everything else is black. This last about 30 seconds and then my monitor remains black. I have attempted replacing the monitor however that one stays black and has no display either. Regardless of the screen I have attatched, I have no problems connecting it to my TV via HDMI and using it that way graphics wise. Upon closely inspecting the motherboard I have not seen any cracks or any other damage. Any insight on this problem would be very appreciated.

Hello all. I am considering purchasing a SL400 (or possibly SL300) but was wanting to be able to connect it to my widescreen monitor which I use on my current home PC. The monitor is a 24 inch widescreen LCD Acer (AL2416W). It has a native resolution of 1920x1200. My questions are: 1) What are the possible output resolutions of the SL400 (or similair)? 2) If the output resolution is not supported are their any tricks to get around this? Any other words of advice on some one who has attempted anything similar (or about the SL500 in general) would be greatly appreciated. Cheers

Answer:Output resolution for external monitor.

I have an sl300 with a nvidia 9300M and have no issues outputing 1920x1200 to my 26" monitor.  Detects that res just fine. Also works fine with 1920x1080 through the hdmi out.

Hi everyone,I'm expecting my Y570 to come in today, and I was curious what everyone's setup was for their screens?  Do you just use the native laptop screen?  Or which monitor do you output to?  I'm thinking of buying a monitor and wanted to know what an optimal setup was, or if there were any problems for certain people.  Thank you!

Answer:Lenovo Y570 Output to Monitor!

Output via HDMI/VGA works just as it should, output to only two monitors simultaneously is supported AFAIK (so you can't use laptop's native screen + vga + HDMI simultaneously). I'm using native screen+full hd monitor and don't have any problems with it. You can use any monitor with HDMI/DVI(you can find HDMI->DVI or VGA->DVI adapter easily)/VGA/any other, for which you can find adapter.

I just recently bought a mini-dock for my T400 laptop. Also I upgraded the OS to Windows 7 64-bit. I can't seem to get the laptop, once set into the dock, to output to the monitor that I have attached to the dock. Is anyone else having an issue with this? It won't even identify that there is a monitor attached...

I'm spec-ing out a new monitor...and I think I have it narrowed down to two choices. Both have HDMI/DVD-D/D-Sub connections and integrated speakers (which I know are probably crap and I'd have to disable and bypass).

However, one has Audio Output: SPDIF and the other does not. What would one use that for?? Is that the only way to get around the monitor's integrated speakers and use other speakers?

Many thanks!

Answer:Audio Output: SPDIF for a new monitor?

Here's what I found on SPDIF, which until you posted, I'd never heard of. (All my systems are old and last century!)

I have Win7 ultimate, 2xNvidia 480GTX running in SLI and an ASUS VE278 monitor. It works fine using DVI but when I connect the monitor to the gc with the HDMI cable and switch the monitor to HDMI mode I get the Windows background, but no mouse pointer or anything to work with. If I try and boot the PC with just the HDMI cable attached the monitor says it can't find an input signal. Does anyone know what the problem here might be?

Answer:HDMI output not working to my primary monitor

Now I have found out if I run dual monitor you can't use HDMI with S-vid or DVI at same time for some reason they fight Maybe this just something I have notice with vista and windows 7.

I've tried several Displayport to HDMI Adapters to connect the displayport on mt ZBook 14 to my 27" monitor and the Top, Bottom and Two Sides are cut off by an inch or two, but the rest is fine. Has anyone had the same problem and found a solution OR does anyone have a proposed solution?

HI, i installed Fedora 5 on my laptop yesterday (got rid of windows completely, not dual booting) and it went okay, everything seemed to be working (except didnt manage to get my wireless notebook card or pen drive working but thats just driver/mounting issues i guess), but since I shut down when I boot up theres no signal to my monitor at all, it just stays blank. It sounds like its starting up normally (fans start going etc) but it just isnt recognising the monitor or something. I could really do with some help with this as I like to use my laptop regularly at college. If you need any particular specs just say and i think i can find them.

Answer:Installed Fedora 5 on laptop, now theres no monitor output

when I had issues I put the install disc back in and used the repair setup
the console window has lots of guides to repair kernel and or boot commands

Hello all,

I'm sorry if this is in the wrong forum as I'm not sure what the problem is!

I'm having a MASSIVE problem with my computer and as usual it's happened at the worst possible time (need to complete and send off my job application today) so I'm really panicking.

What's happened is this;
Monday morning I turned on the computer, walked off and came back with the desktop loaded. Itunes was up as my ipod was plugged in to one of the two front USB ports but the ipod screen was not lit (which is unusual). The computer had crashed, totally frozen as even the mouse wouldn't move. There was a very short line of pixels next to the mouse that were shimmering, I've not seen this before.
I turned it off at the main switch then shortly back on again. The fan would go and the disk drives would whir but there would not be any output to the monitor or any other response.

I called a technician to come out and he first took out and reinserted the ram card. The computer turned on after this. He plugged his pen drive into one of the front two USB ports to look at the .dmp file on his laptop and the computer instantly crashed and rebooted- I've had my pc for 18 months and it's never done this!
He then swapped the ram card into the other slot. It started and didn't seem to crash. He ran a program that tested all aspects of the computer to see if it would crash under pressure but it didn't. He was able to look at the... Read more

Answer:Comp turns on, no output to monitor as if dead. Please help!

To get your computer started again, try this:

Remove all power (take out the power cord)
Hold the ON button in for 30 Secs
Let go of the ON button (after 30 secs)
Put the power cord back in
Turn on the computer

By the way it does sound like a motherboard issue

I apologize if this question has been answered before, but I couldn't find it.

I'm running dual monitors on a laptop, the set up works fine with one minor exception. When I try to view videos in quicktime or windows media player it outputs in full screen to the monitor that the player is not on. This also happens with videos in browsers. is an example of this happening. I can only assume it has to do with my video codec, I am using the windows defaults and cyberlink powerDVD as my mpeg2 decoder.

Answer:Video output with a dual monitor setup

its might be something with your resolution does the other screen have a higher resolution?

Hi all,
As said in the title, when I turn my PC on the CPU fan, the GPU fans and all case fans spin and all of the lights in the case work. Despite this, there is no display on the monitor. What's strange about this, is that if the computer is left overnight or for about 3+ hours during the day, it will turn on and function perfectly.
I have a gigabyte 78lmt usb3 motherboard, a fx8350 CPU, 1 stick of 8gb ddr3 memory, a 2gb gtx960, a cx600m psu and a 1 tb HDD.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Answer:Fans and lights work but no output to monitor

check power and graphics connections on back of monitor and graphics cable on rear of PC.
Remove and refit graphics card (may have worked loose in slot),
try another graphics cable.
