unable to load driver/windows update

Question: unable to load driver/windows update

When I try and install the update for my video driver and the latest Windows update (Windows Genuine Advantage Validation Tool (KB892130), I get an error message saying: "Windows could not load installer for display. Contact your hardware vendor for assistance".

Also (and I don't know if this is related or not, I am unable to view "properties" from my desktop or to change screensaver/background themes from the control panel).

From googling the error message, I suspect that it has something to do with my video driver but I'm not certain.

I'm not sure what specs you need re: my computer. Here are the basics, if you need more, let me know.

Preferred Solution: unable to load driver/windows update

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I cannot get windows to load the drivers for a Jabra UC Voice 550a MS Duo USB headset. Under Devices, Windows 7 shows lists this headset by name as an Unspecified device.  In device manager, Windows 7 lists this headset under "Other devices".
I called Jabra Support and they say this is a Windows problem.  It must be in configuration somewhere or related to several Windows Updates that occurred on my PC on Oct 2nd, 2014.  Prior to Oct 2nd, 2014, this headset worked and this headset still
works on other PCs.  Any help will be very much appreciated.

Answer:Windows 7 unable to recognize any USB communication headset. Unable to load driver.

Hi robh,
Do the other USB devices work correctly? Have you tried to plug in with another port?

I recommend you to follow these steps to have a fix.
Step1.Run this fix it tool  to have a check .
Hardware devices are not working or are not detected in Windows
http://support2.microsoft.com/mats/hardware_device_problems/
Step 2.Reinstall the headset driver, you may need to manually download the headset driver from the manufacturer website and install the driver for this device.
Step 3.Uninstall and reinstall the USB controllers from the device manager and then plug in the headset  to have a check.

To do this :
In Device Manager, double click to expand "Universal Serial Bus controllers", right click on the Host Controller, click "Uninstall" , click "OK", repeat for each device and restart . Windows 7 will reinstall all USB controllers
automatically.
Meanwhile, here is a link for reference:

I get a code 2 error message in Windows ME when I tried to use my digital camera in a USB port--NTKERN.VXD unable to load the driver, Code 2. Can anybody help me figure out how to extract the correct drivers? Thanks

Answer:Code 2 error in Windows ME, unable to load driver

Are you fully upto date with Windows ME updates?

If you had a Driver CD that came with the Camera did you install the drivers supplied?

If you goto Device Manager ( located in Control Panel > System ) are their any yellow ! marks by anything?

If you built the PC yourself do you know if the Chipset/Motherboard drivers have been installed? This is where some system specs will come in handy if you can post them, CPU, Motherboard name and version, if its a per-build eg DELL, HP etc then what model and version is it?

What Camera do you have?

I am unable to update the Kernel-mode driver framework ver 1.11 for windows 7 for x64-based systems (KB2685811). I get error: 80073712

Also, I am getting BSOD/stop errors in normal mode that say anything from:

I'm not sure if they are related.

When I run in safemode I do not get the BSOD. When in normal mode I will get BSOD consistently when running Norton Full System Scan, specifically when the full system scan gets to the Windows/system32 folder.

Answer:Unable to install Windows Update: Update Kernel-mode driver framework

I, again, apologize for double posting. I figure I should include the host of other issues I'm having. Maybe they can all be inter related.

-my DVD/RW drive, when connected to mother board in ANY SATA slot, causes the BIOS screen to freeze forever. I have disconnected the drive at this time while trouble shooting. I have tried known-good SATA cables so I know it's either the DVD/RW drive or perhaps a driver or mobo failure.

-I have run the memory diagnostic tool in windows. No issues were reported.

-I have NOT run memtest86 because I do not have a disk drive connected.

-I have had stop-errors (BSODS) such as PFN_list_corrupt, System_service_Exception, Memory_management, IRQ_not_less_or_Equal
All of these could be a result of bad RAM.

I have purchased new RAM as a means to fix my problems. It seemed to work for 2 weeks, then the stop errors returned.

Been trying to update XP SP2 with the .NET Framework security update V1.1 SP1 (KB886903), but every time I try I receive the following error:

Error Code: 0xC0000005

The only fairly helpful resource I've found tells me that the "Unable to load JIT compiler" error is caused by a timeout error on a system with a heavy load. I've had this error numerous times and checked my system load and it's never been high at all.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I just got my new computer a few days ago and I've been downloading the usual drivers, updates etc. for it. The graphics card is GeForce 6800 GT, so I downloaded the latest driver (61.77) from www.nvidia.com. This worked perfectly until I found out there were further "updates" - and the stupidity of what I did should become apparent now - located here: http://3dchipset.com/drivers/beta/nvidia/nt5/index.php.

Following the flimsy advice that I found on another forum site, I went for the 62.20 download. I can't remember precisely when things went wrong after this, but I think the next two or three restarts were successful.

The current situation is: I switch on the computer - it gets as far as the screen where it says Windows did not start successfully. There is a 30 second timer counting down, and the options are:

Safe Mode
Safe Mode with Networking
Safe Mode with Command Prompt
Last Known Good Configuration
Start Windows Normally

The first three options start a series of lines down the screen which read "multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS\Syste m32\DRIVERS\" and then after "DRIVERS" there will be a *.sys file, e.g. ACPI.sys. After the last line the computer freezes.

"Last Known Good Configuration" makes the screen go black and it stays like that. "Start Windows Normally" freezes the screen, including the timer, and it stays like that. The only options from here are the power on/off or reset bu... Read more

Answer:Can't load Windows after driver update

Well, if this is a result of your driver installation then you need to uninstall it. You can select Safe Modem W/Networking and uninstall the driver that way, after that everything should be okay. If not, since its a new install, I'd reformat and start over.

Cheers!

I have Power Suite on my computer and it said I had 6 outdated drivers which I updated. Now my Windows won't load. It gets to my desk top background, but can't even load the program icons. Then it starts the same process all over. I'm sure one of the updated drivers is the issue, but I can't get the computer to start in order to try System Restore. What can I do? I'm not very computer savvy, so go slow..

Thanks!

Answer:[SOLVED] windows won't load after driver update- xp

This is the reason it is best to get the driver from the manufacturer website. Most Driver Finder software will recommend incompatible drivers.

I see no beneficial reasons to using Power Suite software.

Boot the PC into Safe Mode. Once logged in run a System Restore

Restart the PC > repeatedly tap F8 during boot > at the Advanced Options choose Safe Mode

When using windows update I am given the choice to download an updated driver for my Brother HL-5040 printer. Can anyone tel me what the error is and how I can fix it/install the new driver.

Answer:Windows XP Printer Driver Update failure to load

You'd be better going to the Brother website rather than rely on the Windows Update Site click here If the printer works OK though why bother? They apparently posted a nVidia Graphics driver as a critical update. Great if you don't have an appropriate nVidia card.

I can't seem to get Windows 7 SP1 to load a driver for an HP printer that is on my home network. My laptop sees it but won't let me make it the default printer or load a driver so that I can link to it wirelessly. I restored my laptop back to windows 7
because Windows 10 was moving too slow. I only have 4gigs of memory, and windows 10 probably runs better with 8gigs of memory.

In an effort to update my driver software for my new laptop running windows 8 I have uninstalled the driver for my Nvidia card, which was not working properly. Before this, and after this I have tried to update it and always got the same response: The best driver software for your device is installed. It gives me that message even when "Microsoft Basic Display Adapter" is the driver. I tried downloading driver software from the Nvidia website and it tells me "This graphics driver could not find compatible graphics hardware".

My card is a Nvidia GeForce GTX 670MX.

Answer:Windows 8 Nvidia : Unable to update driver software

Laptop manufacturers sometimes use custom device IDs for their onboard graphics. Driver installers from nVidia may not recognize them.

It's best to get the drivers from the laptop manufacturer, if you can. It's particularly important if your laptop uses switchable graphics.

New HP 8.1 computer (my Dad's) and slightly old D110a Photosmart printer.  It recognizes the printer but I am unable to install the HP driver that I downloaded from their site.  I get a "can't find file" error upon installion of the files.   HP Support is worthless.  They had me download the Wizard which downloaded the same file.  When it failed once again, the Wizard tried deleting files and came up with an error.  No response back from HP  and it's been almost a week.  I did see someone else on the HP forum has the same problem.

I'm hoping the Bleeping Computer folks  , being that they're way smarter than the HP   folks, can help me out.

I see there's a MS in-OS that may allow my Dad to print out emails and photos.  (That's basically all he does with it.)  How would I go about getting that to be the default driver?  I'd imagine I'd have to go to CP and browse, but I'm not sure where to find it.

Answer:Unable to load HP D110a Driver

I just looked on the MS site they say it is compatible, try this delete and disconnect the printer then reboot once with out it hooked up.  Then shut down plug in printer and boot up it should load the generic driver, hope that works for you.

Hello all. I'm at a loss. I am unable to get my Epson WF 3640 printer drive to load. It appears to be able to load the fax and scanner but not the printer. It was working a month ago and I've tried to delete it and reload. I've even wanted to reset my
computer to new to see if this works but have now found that I can't even access a lot of my 'settings' such as the firewall, backup and restore just to name a few. I saw a post here of the same problem getting an error of 0x00003eb and changed the file 3
to old. Maybe I just don't understand how to stop and start the spooler? I also get errors that my file 32 couldn't be located but when I go to the address it 'couldn't find' it's right there. Any ideas?  I hate to think I'll have to buy another computer
with this problem.  Thank you.

First of, stop or disable any anti-virus scanners or firewalls like Norton prior to updating..see if that helps, if not uninstall spybot, reboot, then delete the program folder (generall in C:\Program Files\...). And finally re-install Spybot... these are some generic steps you could try, it might help.

Dear All,
My operating system is Vista Home Premium, my PC came with it ready installed and it didn't come with installation disks.
For what seems like an eternity now I've been unable to install update KB938371, which I need to, apparently, before I can proceed with SP1, and of course I also need to load KB937287 but only following KB938371. Every time it gets to installing I get the following error message. Error Code 800B0100 WindowsUpdate_dt000. I've looked for these error codes and haven't come up with particularly useful to date. I would be very much obliged with any help. I'm really fed up with it. Thanks in anticipation of a solution, I hope!

I am working on a Dell Inspiron B130 for a family member. It has been running very slowly and has not had any sound for months. Every time Windows loads it finds new hardware called PCI Device. It cannot locate a driver and fails to load every time. In Device Manager there is a yellow triangle with an exclamation point next to PCI Device. I have removed about 17 GB of files from the computer, all pictures, videos, and programs that have not been used in a long time and run Defrag. I also upgraded the RAM from 500 MB to 2 GB. I went to the Dell web site and downloaded all the drivers that were listed for this laptop by it's Service Tag. When I tried to run the Dell files they said that the hardware for this driver is not on the computer. I did a Google search for this problem and found that I needed to load the Dell System Notebook Software first but this is not listed under the Service Tag for this laptop, but I did find it under all downloads for Inspiron B130. When I tried to run the file, it told me I did not have the correct version of Windows Installer so I installed Windows Installer 4.5. Now when I try to load the Dell System Notebook Software it tells me "the installation package does not support this Processor type." I am frustrated and do not know if I should try a System Restore at this point. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

i tried to update my graphics driver to the latest, version 353 for my graphics card nvidia geforce GT 630.
after the restart, my pc reverted to primitive resolution. i checked in device manager and saw an error code 37 in the graphics driver saying that it wont run.

i downloaded Display Driver Uninstaller to be able to remove all nvidia components in safe mode then tried clean installation. then i encountered the same error. i tried to use system restore and reverted back to a previous working state but then started to experience unexpected laggs.

a new driver was published and i tried to update mine again to version 355.6. then i encountered the error code 37 again. exactly the same. my system restore point to an earlier working version got automatically wiped clean by my pc and all restore points now are versions without any graphics driver.

i have tried to search the internet for all sort of related problem but unfortunately i was unable to find anything that would work for me.

maybe just maybe its a malware? can anybody here be kind enough to help me? pls. thanks!!!!!!

Not able to do any file transfers from the phone although did send an image file (jpeg) to the phone. Could not find it after it was sent. Seems to be a PC and not a phone problem. What gives?

Hey all!

Sorry i need help with my laptop and i'm hopeless with IT. My laptop (running on windows xp - home) suddenly went bonkers yesterday. whenever i start my comp 2 messages will come up.

the first one says "windows cannot load the locally stored profile. Possible causes include insufficient security rights or a corrupt local profile...."

the second one says "windows cannot load the local profile and is loading you with a temporary profile..."

i tried to use the recovery disc to reformat my comp but everytime i will encounter an error message "setup was unable to create, locate or modify a critical file (c:\\BOOT.ini) needed to start windows xp. access is denied" and then it would just undo all the changes. but when i go to my computer => properties => advanced => recovery and setup i could edit the boot file

i tried pressing f2 to access bios or f10 on start up to try to boot my comp using cd but somehow the option is not available to me.

do you have any advice as to how to sort this out?

thanks!

Answer:Need help - Windows XP unable to load local profile + unable to reformat

Make and model of computer? I ask because F2 is not the key I press on some of my computers to access the BIOS. I need to be sure you are selecting the correct keys.

Hello, thanks for taking the time to look at my issue. I just ran into a problem with my computer. My computer is running windows 7 64bit.

I got a new graphics card in today and put in my computer to crossfire. After I booted my computer back up it loaded fine, albeit slow, but crashed while installing new drivers for the card. Since then I haven't been able to get back on to that SSD(boot drive).

I can't access the advanced boot options to roll back the drivers that were installed as soon as the SSD was booted up.

I've tried numerous suggestions that I've found from other troubleshooting threads on the forums including; looking in my bios for a shortcut, pressing f8 twice per second, holding f8 down, pressing f8 as soon as the bios screen goes away in between the system attempting to load.
I just can't get to the advanced boot menu!

Any suggestions?

Edit: I should say that I AM able to load up windows on my storage hdd which also has windows 7 64bit installed; however, it doesn't even register that my SSD is plugged in under device manager or just computer.

Edit 2: This is crushing my life please help! lol

Answer:SSD Won't load my OS after driver update

Boot into BIOS setup to make sure SSD is detected and set first to boot, after DVD drive.

Then boot into Win7 DVD or System Repair Disk to run Startup Repair several times. It should offer to automate System Restore. If not and it fails to start Win7, boot back into Recovery Options to run System Restore and Disk Check

If SSD is not detected and is under warranty contact it's maker's Tech Support for help to test and if necessary RMA it. Otherwise replace the cables, test the drive using maker's diagnostics followed by Disk Check.

Hello, I have recently been having issues with my computer following a nasty WoW account hack. After my account was hacked I have been unable to use Windows Update and get a connection error or no result. I have tried to follow the Microsoft help and none of their troubleshooting has helped. I have ran AVG scans multiple times as well as MBAM and sometimes find infections but have them removed. Currently neither show any infections. Rkill also finds nor terminates anything but C:\Windows\system32\rundll32.exe. Today I am unable to connect to the internet using IE7 or connect to many of my online games, but can connect via Firefox. I have Hijackthis logs if requested. After reading this I realize I gave very little information... Sorry Please feel free to ask additional questions. Hi all,

I've got a an issue with one, maybe 2 systems on my network. My PC is Windows 7 based and a month or so ago started to act strange while connected to the net. Google redirected me to pages I had not asked to go to, some pages would not load at all until I manually type the URL in & Malwarebytes would no longer update -I just recieve an error and the scan shows 0 infections.

I use McAfee 8.7.0i Enterprise as my main Anti-Virus app and this also find nothing. I work in IT so I have seen this kind of thing before, I tried to clean my system with the usual tools even trying bootable CD version of AV scanners, nothing seemed to permently fix this issue though and even when my PC showed as being infection free malwarebytes would not update so I wiped my system, formatting my C: partition and then re-installed Windows 7.

My issue now is that even after a clean install I find I have exactly the same problems. Has anyone seen this before or have any idea how I go about cleaning it? The re-install seemed to fail to remove this issue last time so I guess that was not the way to go....

Cheers!

Answer:Google redirects, Malwarebytes unable to update and webpages which no longer load...

Have you eliminated an infected router?

Did you delete the partition before formatting?

Yesterday, I had an important windows update: " Advance micro devices Inc. Driver update for AMD SMBus." The update failed to load 4 different times! So I went to device manager, and in the list it had no such devise. It did list "Universal serial bus controllers". So I do not think it is the same.

Two things strike me as not being right. 1. Why would an AMD driver update be listed as a critical Windows update? 2. On update history, every update that was ever done on this computer has a KB******* I.D. number after it being that it was either successful or failed. The download attempted was listed as Failed, but no KB number after it. I do have the windows update icon in the system tray.

I do know that the wrong people are getting very experienced at attacking computer systems! My concern definitely raises a couple of red flags here.

Could someone please comment as to what may be happening?

I'm working with a Dell Dimension C521 PC. It came with a PCI-Express video card which apparently has failed, yet the motherboard itself has on-board video. The system will boot using this video output (as opposed to the card which produced nothing) but when it finally gets to windows the auto-detect driver routine kicks in and begins to detect the video card, prompting the user to "Continue Anyway" to finish installing unsigned drivers. Unfortunately this event takes place in front of the installation of the USB keyboard and mouse (times like these I wish it had PS/2 ). Anyway, whether I boot up into Safe Mode or normal a prompt comes up about installing drivers for the on-board chipset. I can't interact with it because the driver install routine for the keyboard/mouse becomes interrupted.

Answer:Dell Dimension C521; USB key/mouse driver load interrupted by video card driver load

Bump. I've been thinking... the only way I think this can be fixed is if I boot from a Linux CD or something similar and delete a particular set of drivers for this video card. It can't prompt you to install any drivers if they don't exist, right? But I don't know where to go to delete such files and prevent them from automatically trying to install themselves. Any ideas?

Out of the blue, I got hit with a virus the other day. The most obvious aspect was "Antimalware Doctor", which I have since removed. I've run many scans, including avast boot scans, spybot s&d, combofix, and malwarebytes' antimalware.

Now it seems I am down to the following issues:

I am unable to load the Microsoft Update website
When I run a search in Google, the result links I click often redirect to an ad site
After my computer has been on for a while, I receive a "Generic Host Process for Win32 Services" crash message, which is soon followed by a loss of internet connection

I was hoping SP1 would solve a lot of issues I've been having (see related link below)

http://www.vistax64.com/media-center...-crashing.html

Now it seems a new (possibly related?) issue has surfaced. Since installing SP1 I have no sound at all.

In device manager under sound there is a PnP audio device listed but this is wrong, it should be the onboard audio (I believe it used to say CMedia...something). It has an exclamation mark and won't update the driver.

I have found MANY copies of the same solution on the net (uninstall device, scan for hardware changes, reinstall driver) Fix for Sound Missing or No Sound after Vista SP1 install | Windows Reference

BUT....it won't install the driver. I tried downloading the driver from my mobo manufacturer's site but I keep getting a failed install.

Can anyone help please? I really, really don't want to have to format again. Thank you

Wapwap:

From reading your post, you've found the same solutions to the issue that I've found. So my guess is that something else is in play here. My advice would be to have the gurus at Microsoft kick this one around and find a solution. They are giving everyone free tech support for SP1. Here's the link: https://support.microsoft.com/oas/de...4&gprid=500921

You also mentioned that the driver won't install. Is there any error message being generated when this happens?

Hopefully a solution can be found soon.

I currently have a driver dated 5/2/14 for the Intel 82579V adapter. When I run the Intel utility it reports it's outdated and installs the latest one (v20.1) dated June 2015, but after install and upon checking Device Manager I see that the old driver was not updated. Any way to clean install the new driver? Thanks

Answer:Unable to update Intel LAN driver

That would be because there is not a new one. The driver is only updated if there are security flaws, or changes in removing outdated code.

Those driver packages, actually cover a wide range in that chip series.

Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39) <-- This god for shaken message is stopping me from enjoying my computer.

The driver is MAT****A DVD-RAM UJ-861H ATA Device

And that up there is the error message, i havnt downloaded anything i just pressed the button on the cd/dvd drive and my computer shut down and when i turned it back on nothing it it worked.

Does anyone know how to fix this? Im practilly computer illiterate so please be easy on the big words and stuff =]

Answer:Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted

Please try the steps below:

1. Uninstall all third-party burning software, such as Nero and Roxio.

2. Perform a Clean Boot to test the result.

Clean Boot

========
a. Click Start, type "MSCONFIG" (without the quotations) in the Search Bar and Press "Enter" to start the System Configuration Utility.

Note: Please click Continue if the "User Account Control" window pops up.

b. Click the "Services" tab, check the "Hide All Microsoft Services" box and click "Disable All" (if it is not gray).
c. Click the "Startup" tab, click "Disable All" and click "OK".
d. Restart the computer and test the issue.

Note: Clean Boot is a troubleshooting step. If some programs have been disabled, we can re-enable them later. If you see the System Configuration Utility, check the box of "Don't show this message" and then click "OK".

Please test this issue in the Clean Boot environment. If the issue disappears, we can use a 50/50 approach to quickly narrow down which entry is causing the issue.

If the issue persists, please contact your computer manufacturer to check if the DVD drive is damaged.

If not, you may need to restore the system to its factory settings.

Hope it helps.

Now I pretty much have that down I just have one simple question. When deleting the upper and lower filters...

While in the registry I have found the upper filters on the right hand side. The only problem there is - No lower filters.

Could this be a problem?

Also , do the upper/lower filters need to be removed from the Control set 001 and Control set 002 . Please get back to me ASAP.

Specs (please let me know if there are any other relevant specs needed) :

System Model - Alienware x51 R2
Bios - Alienware A10
Processor - Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-4790 CPU @ 3.60GHz
OS - Mincrosoft Windows 10 Home
Graphics Card - AMD Radeon(TM) R9 270

This is an issue I've run across before and never really quite solved. I was attempting to update to the most recent stable AMD driver. I decided on a clean install, whereupon the AMD Radeon software uninstalled the current driver and restarted the computer. When it came back up, I'm not sure which driver the computer was using. Whenever I started Device Manager, the task would stop responding. I expected AMD to automatically start and apply the update, however after waiting some time I got impatient and downloaded the automatic installer from AMD. During the install I got an error message from the installer saying there was another version of AMD Radeon running. I can assume that was either the original uninstall/reboot/install or perhaps I launched the installer twice. After the install, reboot, and my computer took much longer in the bios' start-up phase before login. Upon login and inspection of the driver my AMD graphics card I found that it is now running an older version (15.301.1701.0) than the driver I started with(16.300.2311.0).
Could I get some help with this issue? I would like to update to the most recent stable version of the AMD driver so I don't have to deal with games crashing or having game-brea... Read more

EVERY TIME THERE IS AN UPDATE FOR A NEW VIDEO CARD DRIVER FROM THE AMD.COM WEBSITE. I TRY TO DOWNLOAD IT AND NOTHING HAPPENS.
MY LAPTOP HAS BEEN SENT BACK FOR REPAIR TWICE TO ASUS FOR THE SAME ISSUE. THE SECOND TIME MY LAPTOP WAS SENT BACK FOR REPAIR THE MOTHERBOARD WAS REPLACED, BUT I AM STILL NOT ABLE TO UPDATE THE LATEST VIDEO CARD DRIVER.. THE ONLY TIME THAT I AM ABLE TO UPDATE THE VIDEO CARD DRIVER IS WHEN I FORMAT MY COMPUTER, BUT I DO NOT PLAN TO DO THAT EVERY MONTH JUST TO UPDATE THE DRIVER. ANY IDEAS???

Windows 7 Home Premium 64 Bit
Intel Core i3-350m
ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5470

Answer:Unable to update my ATI Video Card Driver

Go to add and remove programs and use the ATI Catalyst Install Manager to do a complete uninstall of all its resources. Do not reboot. Download Guru3D - Driver Sweeper (Setup) download from Guru3D.com and install it. Reboot in Safe Mode and run Driver Sweeper. Select "ATI Display" box and click "analyze. " Then in "clean". Reboot normally and try to install the latest version of the AMD Catalyst. It can be download from here: http://www.sevenforums.com/graphic-c...ndows-7-a.html

My dell desktop came with WIN XP home edition. I formatted the hard drive and installed XP PRO on it. The desktop came with a 256 MB Radeon video card. After I re-installed, I see waving on my screen. I am assuming that is because of improper drivers. I think it is currently using VgaSave. How could I update the drivers? I wasted many hours on this and still cant figure it out....

Answer:Xp Reinstall - Unable To Update Video Driver

Try going to Device manager (rightclick on my computer, properties, hardware, device manager)and have a look and see if there are any highlighted. If there is it means that your pc is not recognising it. Expand the selection, right click on the highlighted device choose properties, driver tab and update driver then follow the instructions on screen.
The other option is to uninstall the device and use the add new hardware option which will search for and install your video card again.

Hope this helps, this is how i have solved similar problems.

When I boot up now my screen goes to "Windows XP," then  hangs on a blank blue screen (not BSD) - won't go any further.  Scoured other forums and have not found a solution - tried:1. Disabling VT-d in BIOS2. Loading defaults in BIOS3, boot into diagnostics from BIOS4. Removed primary battery *have not yet tried removing backup battery) How do I boot windows XP in safe mode using this computer? Also tried F11 *disk doctor" - it would not launch. This all happened as I was configuring my system today for the first time (relatively new system) and performed many driver updates - did this one by one and things were going fine.  Then, I discovered the ThinkPad System Update package - installed this and then it scanned automatically for driver updates - I did three at once (I think one was finger print reader drive, one AMT 4.2, and the other some Microsoft hotfix) - after this, no starting up.  I know there's a BIOS update to do (3.11 - I have 3.10) and I have created the boot CD for this though don;t have my base station/CD with me so I have to wait to try this until tomorrow. Any ideas?  Please help - this is insane, and I am kicking myself as I knew I should have kept doing these one by one and I also need a good imaging program to create images after each successful update so I could just roll back on an unsuccessful one - is there a "SuperDuper!" imaging program for Windows ("SuperDuper! I have tried everything I know to do.  I am an IT Pro with 30 years experience and this one has me stumped...
With the July cummulative update to Windows 10 15063, the Qualcomm Atheros Bluetooth driver has completely failed.  It will not load and reports it is corrupted or unusable.  Here's what I have tried...
1. Remove and reinstall driver - Fail
2. Ensure latest driver from Dell, remove and reinstall - Fail
3. Download latest driver package from Killernetworking.com - Fail
4. Roll back CU (KB4025342) - Success
5. Reinstall CU (KB4025342) - Installs, but kills the bluetooth driver again
6. Contact Dell Support - Fail - Technician said it's a Microsoft problem and I would have to contact them for support. (Ironically: I just bought this laptop two months ago and purchased a 4year premium support contract!).
7. Roll back CU (KB4025342) permanently - Not possible, as it is managed by our Windows Update Server on corporate domain and would effect everyone.  I could do this, but it would be a last resort, and it's unknown what vulnerability I would expose the rest of our W10 clients to.

Has anyone else encountered this issue?  If so, what did you do to resolve?

Dell:  Can you please investigate and resolve?  All bluetooth functionality is broken so long as this CU is in place.

Thank you!

Hi all. After installing the latest drivers my W520 will not boot. I get the error 0x00000e9 and it says there's been an unexpected I/O fault. When booting up in safe mode, the driver loading suddenly stops, so I suspect the driver wasn't completely installed before the computer restarted. Is there any possible way of recovering? I have a huge project deadline in less than a week, so any response is highly appreciated. Too bad lenovo support center is closed during weekends. I have a bad experience with them anyway. Regards.

I have been having trouble playing games on Steam and found out that my graphics driver is out of date.

Laptop: Toshiba Satellite, Model: A665D-S5172
Graphics: ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4200 Series
Driver Version: 8.723.2.0

The latest driver version is 8.951.0.

The problem is that I cannot update the driver through other sources/websites due to Toshiba locking the driver updating through their site only. I checked their site and found that they have not provided an update for the latest ATI driver. I also found out that Toshiba no longer provides support for my laptop model.

I downloaded the latest driver from another source/site and tried to manually update it myself by telling it to look in the containing folder instead of online. When I do this the ATI Catalyst Control program pops up and takes over. It looks online for the latest driver and tells me I already have it. When I tried to deactivate ATI Catalyst it decided to delete the currently installed driver and I couldn't get ATI Catalyst to work afterwards to reinstall the driver from the Toshiba site. I was forced to go back to a previous known good startup point (I forget the exact terminology at the moment) to have things back the way it was before I messed with ATI Catalyst.

My question:
Is there a way to force update the driver without ATI Catalyst Control popping up and taking over?

Attached is a DxDiag text file.

Answer:Unable to update Toshiba Laptop Graphics Driver

Hello and welcome to the forums. McCrazy!

The answer is yes!

We'll do this the old fashioned way and bypass ATI's CCC and lock it down, using the good ol' reliable, uninstall, clean and reinstall method.

Before you do anything further, ensure that you have the following programs installed and at your disposal:-

1) Driver Sweeper 3.2.0 - This program will clean out all the remaining traces of AMD drivers on your system. Download and install this software before we begin.

Phyxion.net - Driver Sweeper

2) Download these 12.6 legacy drivers direct from AMD/ATI, no detection required, compatible with your mobility card also:-

http://www2.ati.com/drivers/legacy/1..._64_dd_ccc.exe

3) A system restore point handy just in case.

The Procedure:-

1) First, we're gonna take care of that pesky ATI Catalyst Control Center.

Head to your Task Manager (Press Ctrl-Shift-Escape) and terminate the CCC.exe and MOM.exe processes if you can find them. (Make sure to select Show Processes from all users at them bottom of the Task Manager first so that you can see all processes)

2) Next step, to get rid of all the existing AMD graphics software on your system in preparation for the new drivers.

Head to your Programs and Features entry in the Control Panel, find the AMD Catalyst Install Manager entry and right click on it, select Change and then select the option to remove all the AMD software on your system, and while yo... Read more

Hi,

Every time I try to install Realtek Wireless LAN Driver 2023.17.731.2015 using Toshiba Service Station, the programme starts and the permissions window comes up, I click yes but nothing happens. No other window appears, and the update is still in Service Station as if nothing has happened.
Are there any fixes for this?

I'm using a Satellite L50-C

Thanks for any info

Answer:Satellite L50-C - Unable to update Realtek Wireless LAN Driver

This could be program interference, first go into your firmware settings in your BIOS, go to security and turn off secure boot. This can sometimes prevents programs from updating. Then perform a clean boot, follow these directions to do a clean boot https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/929135
Then turn off your antivirus and firewall completely and perform the update again.

Im having trouble with my computer. i was unable to access my start menu on windows 10. ive tried various methods to fix the problem, however, to my disappointment, the problem still persists. i also tried resetting my windows to a clean slate, however, for some reason, the windows was unable to reset itself. when i checked the source of the problem, i found out that the windows bt folder is main culprit. removing it too impossible (ive tried deleting it using windows maintenance tool) - it stated the folder is open / use in another program.
can any of you help me? please?

Hi,
I was having issues with my external hard drive today and the event logs said something about the storage controller having a read error so I decided to try to update the storage drivers. I believe I had version 8.x and I downloaded the newest version from Intel's site, 12.x. I installed the software, and my system hung at "Starting Windows." I reverted to the last known good configuration, and I was back up and running. I decided to delete the existing drivers (8.x), restarted the computer, it automatically installed the 12.x drivers, and asked me to restart my computer, which I did. After this, my computer still hangs and I can't restore the last known good configuration.

Things I've tried:
- Trying to manually delete iaStore*.sys from system32\drivers
- Running Startup Repair
- Running System Restore (Apparently I don't have a restore point...)

I'm getting a BSOD when I try to boot into Windows now, but I can't see what it is.

I believe there may be a conflict of driver versions at this point. I'd like to manually remove all the Intel SATA drivers, if possible; however, I've been unsuccessful.

Any thoughts?

Hello. I bought a computer yesterday. When I realized I hadn't had a wireless card installed I took it back and had one put in. I don't know if that has anything to do with this problem.

When I go to Control Panel>Devices, my hard drive shows an exclamation point. I rightclick>troubleshoot and am told I need to reinstall the device driver. After applying fix I am told "Microsoft Virtual WiFi Miniport Adapter has a driver problem - Not fixed". So I go to the device manager and find said adapter under "Network adapters", which still has an exclamation point next to it. I rightclick>update driver software and am told "The best driver for your device is already installed".

This is my first Windows machine in years, so I'm not sure how to go about fixing this, or even what the Microsoft Virtual WiFi Miniport Adapter is or if I need it. Earlier today the computer did not want to connect to my wireless network, while all my other devices did. It seems ok after unplugging/plugging in the router.

Any help would be appreciated.

Answer:Unable to update driver for Virtual WiFi Miniport Adapter

I would advise right clicking on the device that has the excalamation point and choosing "Uninstall", then select the check box to delete the driver software as well. Reboot and see if Windows detects and tries to install the software again, if not you can:
1) Go the the manufactuers website to get the drvier
2) Use the driver CD - if you got one for that device

NOTE - If this is for your wifi adapter, you will need to connect your computer to the router with an ethernet cable to get the driver from the web.

SAVE MY PC!!!

hey everyone, this is my first post here, in fact on any computing forum.

i am quite aware that there is plenty of topics on what i need but absolutely none help, and my eyes are sore from reading.

this is the problem at the moment -

this occured when i was looking at different window themes and it crashed on me (this is a usual problem as alot of things have been going wrong on my comp) but this time i started my comp and it didnt load!!! please help me, in the last month i think i have done 20 or so complete reinstalls. (losing all my school work once and my music)

this was the problem a while ago -

my computer got badly infected with viruses, rather then cleaning it all i just did a complete reformat, after this i couldnt install most things (such as windows live msnger, ad-aware, and emule to name a few) - i solved this by not installing my motherboard chipset cd which worked apart from theres errors everywhere, things dont open, freezes alot.

I dont expect for some one to work out what the bleep is wrong with my computer, but is there a way to do a system restore if you are unable to load windows??? as at the moment all that is important is school, and i had open office working so i would like to just revert it back to the way it was, without spending another day on it (my harddrive also has all my data on it, and i have slow intern... I have just upgraded an old computer to windows 7 Sony Vaio vgn-c1s.  All the drivers installed ok and has been working fine.  I just restarted the computer and the screen shows the bios start up then it goes off and looks for the cd or hard drive to boot from and the screen goes blank.  When I press any of the keys ie caps key the light does not going on.  When I boot to cd the screen again goes blank no updates or anything have been installed.  I have tried to boot into safemode but again the screen just goes off?  It was running very well no issues before I have tried a few times just to wait and see if it loads but nothing.   Anyone got any ideas on this?  As I am a little confused why its no longer working and not sure what could be or to try now?

Answer:Unable to load Windows 7

Since the Caps Lock light is not turning on or off after POST, then it "hard-froze" before getting to the splash screen.  This could be caused by a number of things:1) Bad RAM2) Failing hard drive3) Corrupt boot files (which could be indicative of #2 as well)4) Corrput bcd database5) Incompatible BIOSReboot from the Windows 7 DVD and select "Repair My Computer."  See if it finds anything wrong with the bcd database, boot sector, hard drive, etc.  Alternatively, Google for and download Memtest 86+.  Burn the .iso to a CD-R (or CD-RW if you want), and boot from that.  If there's ANY red on the bottom of the screen, then that means there's bad RAM.  Otherwise, after a few passes, if everything checks out, then it's very likely NOT a RAM issue. You could try flashing the BIOS, but only after trying all of the above first.  You may have to do it from a bootable CD or flash drive if your laptop doesn't have a floppy drive.

Answer:Unable to load Windows XP SP2

Kind of late for sp2. Might try to install sp3. You will have to find out two things. One is how to return it to as shipped state or oem state. The other is if they did offer a xp cd or if you can make a cd.You might try to use anyone's XP cd and try sfc.exe /scannow command to see if it can fix the files. Usually a service pack equal or below would help.I'd get all my data off before I went any further.I'd get SP3 on a flash drive too. Install it first thing after you get it fixed or reloaded.Playing to the angelsLes Paul (1915-2009)

Hi,

I suspect that my computer got infected some time in the last month or so. Normally i resume usage of my computer from sleep mode so i never have the need to reboot.

However last week my computer started to act up. Any time i pressed a key additional characters got added and when i clicked on an app once it appeared that multiple (too many) clicks got entered and the only way for me to recover was to reboot.

During reboot, the computer stayed stuck at the initial BIOS screen. I have a hp h8xt desktop, and the computer stayed at the startup screen (before loading windows). The BIOS screen has additional menus (like system recovery, diagnostics, etc). However when i tried (using F-select keys) to select any of those menus, those menus did not show up. Only the initial POST results showed on the screen.

I finally got luck and when i hit ctl-alt-delete from the BIOS screen, i pressed a few keys and finally a menu showed up which allowed me to enter system recovery mode. I backed up my files and used windows system restore to rollback to a restore point of OCt 27th. Since then the computer boots up, but takes a long time to load windows. I suspect this is because the malware probably did not install itself right.

Another symptom i still see is that the DVD drive is not being recognized. Again the malware probably "hid" it to avoid trying to recover the system from external media.

My only option now is to reinsall, but i am not sure tha... Read more

I just finished putting together a new computer and I'm unable to get Windows XP to load properly. I have a Asus A8N32-SLI Deluxe motherboard with an AMD 64 X2-3800 CPU and a Hitachi 400 GB IDE hard drive. While loading Windows XP w/ SP2 I get to a blue screen that says Windows Set UP on the top of the screen and at the bottom of the screen it says Windows Is Starting but it never gets beyond that point. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Answer:Unable to Load Windows XP

Did you use the correct brands of RAM that Asus recommends?

btw, this laptop belong to a co-worker..

Toshiba Sattelite A505-S6005
Intel i3 M330 @2 2.13GHz
HDD: Hitachi HTS5450b9A300
Memory: Samsung 2GB 2Rx8 PC3 (2)
OS: Windows 7 64-bit

A week ago was told that after updated AVG then reboot, Toshiba logo came on and take to 'Windows Error Recovery' options. Launch startup repair (recommended) goes into black screen with moving cursor. Starting windows normally will see windows logo with 'Starting Windows' for a several minutes and goes to Windows Error Recovery options.

All the options in Advanced Boot Options have been performed and same result: black screen with moving cursor.
Once in black screen unable to do anything besides moving the cursor. No CTRL+ALT+DEL. Insert recovery cd and can hear it is reading and thats it just black screen with moving cursor.

Boot System Repair disc at startup from dvd-rom, 'windows is loading files....', after a couple minutes goes into black screen with moving cursor.

Other troubleshooting have done: remove battery, remove hard drive, remove memory, running 1 stick of memory : All ended up with black screen with moving cursor.

Have tried another working hard drive with XP from another toshiba laptop, ended up with repair menu, can't even run xp cd to repair either.

Was able to run Puppy Linux from image ISO cd that i created instructed from another link and can watch video and open pictures. So doesn't this tells me that RAM is ok, video card is ok, cpu is ok, ... Read more

are you in a startup repair loop? Because I had that issue..where it just keeps restarting and saying that startup could repair could not fix the problem. I'm trying to figure out how to get rid of this virus

I have searched the forum and have found a thread similar to my problem but with a few key differences, so I'd like to ask again. The relevant thread can be found here: http://www.techsupportforum.com/f10/uxtheme-dll-error-165348.html

I attempted to change my theme in Windows XP Home 32-bit, and used SP3 UxTheme Patcher 1.3 to modify my uxtheme.dll. Upon rebooting, I find that I can get as my wallpaper being displayed, but no XP user interface elements appear. Unlike the poster in the above thread, I cannot get the task manager to come up when my wallpaper is displayed, although the onscreen cursor detects mouse movement. No icons appear from the desktop. After a few seconds of seeing my wallpaper, my pc loops back to my monitor splashscreen and will loop indefinitely until I turn it off. Does anyone have any ideas on how to replace uxtheme.dll when I cannot access the task manager? Any help would be much appreciated, and if any more information is needed I'll attempt to get it to you.

Have you tried booting into safe mode?

I know it says in the other thread that it was the same in Safe Mode, but you might as well check if there's anything Safe Mode can help with.

Well had the computer on overnight (leave it on a ton of the time usually) and went to bring it out of sleep in the morning and it was sitting on my bios screen so I rebooted and now windows 8 is telling me it is unable to load. Very frustrating as the system repair and restore options are not working either and I have tried every option available besides wiping the hard drive and reinstalling which is a serious pain since I am using an upgraded version of windows. Ughhhh!!!! Any suggestions! MS products have been driving me nuts lately

Thanks for the help or suggestions

Answer:Windows 8 unable to load

Check that the bios settings haven't been reset. May be a problem with the sata ports being in a different mode than what was used to install the OS.

Power up the pc, 2 out of every 10 times I get to the Windows Logo w/ the loading bar, but it never gets past that. It either freezes or reboots itself and I get the usual options:

Safe Mode
Safe Mode w/ Networking
Last know working configuration
Start Normally

No matter which I try it always either just reboots after i choose one or freezes once it gets to the windows load screen. I have seen a flash of blue once before it reloaded so i'm guessing it was a Blue screen of Death, but it is only a flash nothing that I could read to find out why its restarting.

Usually I put it my Slax Linux boot cd just so I can see the harddrive and get all my data off of it before i play around with the computer, but none of my Live Linux cds will boot either always a kernal panic or it just freezes.

There have been no major changes to the computer, I just went to boot it up one day and it wouldn't boot. I used Spin Rite 6 to test out the harddrive's health and the test came back fine.

I have read all 17 pages in this forum, but no one elses problem fits this description most other ones like this can boot in safe mode or something, but as i said i can't boot to anything.
Would tell you more about the pc itself but its not one that i use normally and now that it won't boot i can't get anything, but its:

Compaq
2000 mhz
512 mb ram

After I turn on my computer the black boot screen comes up, then it asks F1 to continue, after doing that, the Windows 98 screen appears for about 1 second, then disappears to come back to a black screen saying, 'The following file is missing or corruptive: C:\CD ROM\ OAK CD ROM.SYS there is an error in your CONFIR.SYS file mode select code page function completed'.I then type mode then it says 'ACTIVE CODE page 850'I am bemused from their and can't do anything further to get my computer starting, please help and reply as soon as possible.

Answer:Unable to load up my windows

Are you trying to reload win98 as the OAK CD ROM.SYS is for the generic CD driver when you first load windows. If not then start with Win98 floppy disc and at A:\> type SCANREG/RESTORE press enter and load an old date before your problem

Hello all,

I started up my computer this morning (HP ipower g5800) which went onto a windows repair screen. It then came up with a message minutes later that it could not be automatically fixed. I then shut the machine down and when i powered back up it worked like nothing had happened. This is the first time it has happened.

Does anyone know if it will happen again or the cause of it? dont really want to shut it down again lol

Many thanks

I swapped out my Gigabyte motherboard for an Asus A8N-SLI SE to make use of dual PCI-E video cards.  During the Windows XP Setup I press F6 to load SATA drivers.  After being prompted to do so I press S to "Specify Additional Device."  I put the floppy drive created with the utility from the motherboard manufacturer into the floppy drive, press enter and -File txtsetup.oem caused an unexpected error (1024) at line 1747 in d:\xpsprtm\base\boot\setup\oemdisk.c.I've tried multiple floppies on different floppy drives.  I've tried the drivers from the CD included with the motherboard as well as the most recent from the manufacturer.  The manufacturer told me it was because I have 4 GB of RAM.  I removed 2 and tried again with the same results.  The Windows installation will complete without issue if I install to a single IDE HDD.  Asus has very slow tech support, so it will be days before I hear from them again.  I'm hoping someone has an idea.  Custom built machine4 GB Mushkin PC3200 AMD Athlon x2 4200+I've tried a 4 different SATA hard drives.

Answer:Unable to load Windows XP

Asus is now telling me there is a problem with my Windows CD.  I have a hard time buying that because I did not have this issue when I set up RAID on my Gigabyte motherboard.

I'm trying to load Windows 98 onto a pretty old machine, with nothing on the hard drive (2.5 Gb); it has been formatted. When I run Setup off the CD it eventtually comes up with these three lines : Please wait while Setup initializesScanning system registry...Windows requires ******where the ****** consists of a largish number of bytes. What exactly does this mean? What's the minimum RAM needed? I think there's 32 Kb of RAM in the machine, which seems to be the maximum, since all 4 slots are filled with RAM.Can I get round this message?Should I load Windows 95 first and then try 98 on top of it?Cheers.

Answer:Unable to load Windows 98

Think you mean 32 MB of RAM rather than KB. Minimum specs for 98 are 16MB > 32MB of RAM120-295MB of HDD space

Disasterous loss of desktop due to incompleted Undo System Restore on XP Home.Partition Magic 7.0 picks up Error 1516: 'Partition Improperly dismounted' and Error 1619: one lost cluster but doesn't give the option to fix either. The recovery disc that came wih the PC (an Evesham Axis 1900+XP several years ago) requires an administrator password to continue with repair!! It isn't the same as the one I use to run Windows XP Home when booting up. God knos what it is. It locks out after three attempts.XP's own error message on booting up gives options to start in Safe Mode, or Start Normally or Last Good setting, etc, but at each attempt after the Windows logo comes up, the blue broken load up bar below it moves along, the thing just hangs with a black screen, no red light activity on the hard drive. No matter which option is tried.Any ideas? Any other recovery software that can circumvent XP's own attempts at booting up to give me access to it in order to fix the problems?Incalculable mass of personal info and wife's listings for eBay on there, only half of which were backed up (I am only too painfully aware that it's a salutary tale of 'back up, back up' but having that reinterated isn't going to help now!) so do not want to reinstall Windows XP (IF the recovery disc would let me) and lose all those files.Any ideas or magic sent my way would be much appreciated. Thanks L

The Admin password may be blank i.e. not set?Alternatively fit another hard drive as master and install XP on that and fit the current drive as a slave and try and recover the data?
