I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Solved: Keyboard very wrong!

go to the control panel and click on regional and language options. Under regional options select English UK. That might work if you are using win xp sp2 pro.

Hi tech support, installed windows 64 professional and some characters are not in the right place, @ and " are opposite, # is where the pound character
etc, installed three types of keyboard plug and play and USB and ergonomic with software all the same problem, any advice what to do???

Answer:[SOLVED] keyboard wrong characters

Either you are in a Non-US English location and have the US layout, or vice-versa
US Shift+2 is @
UK Shift+2 is "

Control Panel | Language and Regional Options
On Regional tab, select the correct language for your location.
Click the Languages tab, then click the Details... button
Select the correct Default input language. This should also install the correct keyboard
Under Installed services, if the incorrect keyboard is shown, click the Add... button
Select the language and layout, and click OK
You can remove the other keyboard if needed. Helps to keep it from getting switched back accidentally.

I my laptop keyboard is now displaying incorrect characters after I cleaned it (just a wipe over with some window spray). I have bought a USB keyboard and am currently using that. For example:

Most keys are affected, even the enter/delete and number keys.

Any idea what is happening? Have I completely broken it?

HI all,
I recently had to replace the hard disk in my Packard Bell PC. I lost the original Windows XP Home installation. I had to install a new version of XP Home OEM ( decided to stay with XP as I use several fairly old programs, which, I am told probably would not work with Vista). My problem is that having successfully installed the program, my keyboard is now printing incorrect characters. I am told it is using the American setting. Can anybody tell me how to change to the English setting? I am getting @ for ", and vice versa. Also, I cannot find any Euro symbol.

Yours Hopefully,

Just built a machine from a whole load of components I bought some time ago and never got around to building til now. Built to play some games but not real cutting edge ones.

It ran for the first few days OK on internet etc running Firefox 8 no hassles watching TV programs online etc no issues.

Yesterday after I was happy it was stable I installed the first game Assassin's Creed Director's Cut.onto the second HDD. The first HDD has only the OS and Firefox on it.

At first it ran OK then the assassin started spinning on the spot after about 10 or 15 mins running. After that the PC switched off. After re-starting and entering the game again, after a few minutes it shut down again and did this a few times. I went looking for the most up to date graphics card driver I could find for the card I had installed (see below) the manufacturer's site was a little confusing but I think I installed the most recent driver I could find.

Then today after starting and playing the game for a few minutes the character started spinning again and the machine switched off again. I went looking to an alternative source for a driver and trid to download one and got this message:

error 1330 a file that is required cannot be installed because the cabinet file c:\\windows\install\MS146.tmp has an invalid digital signature. This may indicate that the cabinet file is corrupt. error 266 was returned by winverifytrust.

I don't know if this is a hardware issue or a software issue. Whenever I press certain letters I get a numeric stroke. For example:

The only reason I'm able to type this is because I've connected another keyboard up to the laptop.

Answer:Solved: Fujitsu laptop keyboard showing wrong characters

Most likely you have some kind of number lock feature on. It's so you can use the letters as you would a number pad on a standard keyboard.

Try to find a key on your keyboard labeled "Num Lock" and press it (you may have to hold down something like an "Fn" key while pushing the Num Lock button).

I have the Gateway NE56R12u 15.6-Inch Laptop
OS: Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit SP1

A few drops of water was spilled onto my keyboard (I don't think the water got down into the laptop... as far as I could tell the water landed on top of the keys, but I could be wrong) and when I went to clean it, I didn't think ahead and turn it off before cleaning up the spill. So many keys were pressed and now the keyboard is not functioning correctly. When I press the majority of the keys, they will either add other letters/symbols, or they will trigger Windows shortcuts.

As an example..
B = "B (it also brings up the right click menu) (this will also bring up this: € symbol as well as times)
O = 7i7o0
L = *L{YK

M = HM

k= yk*

j = brings up googlechrome downloads

i = takes curser to the start of the text

The space key types b ' and brings up the right click menu.

7 brings up the "open file" shortcut

and so on

Some keys are working properly: a c d e f g q r s t v w x z

I browsed google a little to see if anyone else has had this problem. A big fix was pressing the FN button and the NumLock at the same time. That didn't work. Which, I doubted it would since my laptop has a full keyboard.

Is it possible that it's stuck on some sort of sticky keys or toggle keys setting?

I don't know if this is a software or a hardware issue, but using the onscreen or an exter... Read more

Answer:What is wrong with my keyboard?

As the fault on the problem keys is intermittent then the keyboard is clearly faulty and has a bad contact under the problem keys. As it has been like that since new why didn't you return it under the guarantee or was it second hand?

Try blowing out the keyboard with a can of compressed air as it may just be due to dirt and dust build up.

So my keyboard is acting weird by weird I mean if I press the A key or something the "file" tab on my browser pops up and if I press "g" to go to google it doesn't work. I've managed to make it work by opening on screen keyboard in windows 7 but when I turn on the computer it goes back to acting weird. I don't think it's a virus. Any ideas? Just in case my explanation is vague to put it simpler terms I suppose if press the "A" button on my keyboard the history tab for some reason comes up.

Qwerty, Dvorak or another keyboard?

if I press the A key or something the "file" tab on my browser pops upClick to expand...

Pressing g alone doesn't go to google. Do you have some software for key mapping? If so, what are you using.

That and it is not showing signs of shorting out like certain keys not working. However, the caps lock has quit working and the paste shortcut Ctrl+V isn't working. The light doesn't even come on when I try to use the Caps Lock. It is a Microsoft Internet Keyboard. Could this be the result of an outdated driver or something? Help!

I understand English is probably not your first language, but unfortunately, it is not clear from your post exactly what your problem is. The posts in the link I give above cover many problems people have with Japanese keyboards and the ability to switch backward and forward between them. Most if not all problems seem to have a solution, so hopefully you also will find one that helps you in that long series of posts. Good luck.

Hey guys. I've got a laptop here that recently had some kind of juice (or something sticky anyway) spilled on the keyboard. The keys were jamming, staying pressed, etc... I removed the keyboard from the laptop, removed all the keys, and submerged it in a quarter of an inch of rubbing alcohol for approximately 10 minutes, sort of swirling it around. When I did this all kinds of gunk and debris came out in the wash. After putting all the keys back on, they moved freely and didn't seem to stick anymore. The thing is was that the laptop's HDD was also busted (not related to the spill) so a new HDD had to be installed and the computer reformatted. I put the new drive in and sparked up Xp... everything seemed to be going ok until I tried to start typing stuff in. Now here's the situation... 2 or three of the keys don't work at all, and several of the other keys are giving the wrong letters. I suggest you try the different languages there. If this does not work, see if searching the Microsoft database will bring about any information.

I purchased a T440s and by default it had a non-backlight UK keyboard, during the 7 week wait for the machine to arrive I noticed that the backlight version was an option that I had not specified and asked if I could change my order, unfortunately I was informed that would not be possible. So now that I have my new machine sat in front of me what are my options and is it really worth trying to convert. Regards Baz

Answer:T440s wrong keyboard ordered

You can certainly change the keyboard. "Is it worth it?" It depends on how you would use the machine. My daily-use laptop has one and I only used it when I tested it to see if it works.

Well, my computer is an Acer Aspire PC running on Windows Vista Home Premium, but when I try to type things, my keyboard will type in a completely different symbol. For example, in most programs, instead of an apostrophe, Ill get è instead, or if I want to use square brackets, Ill get ^^ç. It wont happen in Microsoft word, but it will happen when Im on the internet, or using the search function in my computer.

Here's what the Keyboard driver window keeps telling me:

Under general tab:

Device Type: Keyboards
Manufacturer: (Standard keyboards)

Under Driver Tab:

In general the upgrade path to Windows 10, starting from a W7 machine that went to W8 and then to W8.1 wasn't very smooth, but in the end, I have a fresh installation of Windows 10 on my box (for the record, I had to resize the system partition but the message to do so was cryptic and I had to download a third-party repartitioning tool, I wasn't given the chance to preserve my apps because setup decided to change my default language and then informed me that I can't preserve my apps due to the different language settings and, finally, even though the installer assured me that there were no compatibility problems with my machine, my scanner is apparently incompatible).
Anyway, this thread is about Edge: Keyboard shortcuts don't work on it. CTRL+T, CTRL+W, CTRL+F... nothing works. Everything works in IE, but the oh so hyped Edge ignores them.
Has anyone else experienced this? Any ideas?

Hi users,  I am facing problem with my last row of keyboard and the numeric row. When i press zxcvbnm,./ following comes 1z2x3c4v5b6n7m9,0.-/ Please help me to fix this problem i have tried installing OS again. Tried changing the language also nothing worked.

Answer:Lenovo Y50 Keyboard Wrong Behaviour

Hi AnkurSharma,
Welcome to the Community Forums.
Try connecting an external USB keyboard and test the same keys (zxcvbnm).
Another alternative to isolating if such is a Windows issue or a hardware keyboard problem is booting the machine using a live media image similar to this.
If the same issue with another boot image and likewise fine using an external USB keyboard then it is probable that there is an issue with the keyboard itself. You may try reseating the cable and cleaning but if still, the same, replacement may be proper.
Update us how it goes.

I use an old DOS program (dBase) in Vista 32; it runs, but uses the wrong keyboard, I use a German keyboard, but it gives the keys of the US keyboard (y instead of z, no umlauts etc.). Changes in the language bar (keyboards etc.) did not help.

I inserted in autoexec.nt the line "Keyb16 gr,850,C:\Windows\System32\keyboard.sys" in several versions (without 16 etc.). Did not work. In the DOS windows, the German keyboard is used; but when I start dBase, it uses the US keyboard.

DOSBox does not work, installing Virtual PC 2007 seems to be too much. Any suggestions?

Answer:DOS program uses the wrong keyboard in Vista

Hi, Paul48, and welcome to the forums.

I suspect that this is not going to be resolvable unless you can find some resources for forcing dBase to change the codepage that it uses - as that program is not Unicode compliant, that is why it is using the US layout even though you are using a German system. it is one of the pitfalls of using older programs on Vista.

Go to Start->Control Panel->International options and language-> and then change the keyboard settings. Go to Language tab, and then click details. At this point change the settings to your keyboard and region and you should be good to go. Sounds like your keyboard has another language set instead of the european one. Set your regional keyboard language there and the keyboard should type normal.

This has been happening every other day for me recently where I will be typing and my keyboard will randomly start typing the wrong letters or pressing certain keys will open the menu bar, but my computer to sleep or just type completely random letters. I've googled it once before and found that I should change the settings in control panel > regional and language settings which worked for me once but lately it doesn't.

I've even purposely added a foreign language and then re added my normal one (UK) but hasn't helped, it was already on the proper settings anyway. The last two times it has happened was on the night and left my keyboard unplugged, the next day I plugged my keyboard back into the tower while the computer was still loading up and it has been working fine now and did the same again last night. I don't know why it does this? Also google suggested a FN key but my keyboard doesn't have one.

CRAP-O-LA... I messed up again,...

I accidently updated to "USB" keyboard & mouse drivers, & now I can't do a thing after XP boots...I've tried Safe-Mode (knew that wouldn't work)

Is it possible to restore the registry thru DOS? Maybe System Restore thru DOS?

...oh god, please help!!!

Answer:help! wrong keyboard/mouse driver

XP doesn'r reallt have "DOS". To get to the command prompt and repair XP, do the following,

Starting System Restore Tool from Command Prompt

Start your computer to Safe Mode with Command Prompt.

NOTE: You must log on as the administrator or a user that has administrator rights.

At the command prompt, type %systemroot%\system32\restore\rstrui.exe, and then press ENTER. System root is usually C:\WinNT

Follow the instructions on the screen to begin restoring your computer to a previous, functional state.

If that don't work, a second option is to use the original XP CD to boot to the repair console, if Safemode with command prompt is not available.

Boot to the XP cd, at the welcome window, select "R" to go to the Repair Console.

Select the OS partions, (usually 1) and enter your Admin password.

At the command prompt, type %systemroot%\system32\restore\rstrui.exe, and then press ENTER. System root is usually C:\WinNT

Follow the directions. Hope this helpsl

Hey, i run XP and am having an issue with my keyboard not inputting the correct character on certain keys when shift is held down. This same thing happens when i use either keyboard a basic PS/2 and a USB Steelseries Merc Stealth which i install drivers for.
Some examples of the problem are pressing shift + 2[top row] should input " but inputs @ : Shift + 3 should input pound sign but instead inputs # : shift + @ should input @ but instead inputs "
I have tried removing all my drivers through divice manager and rebooting letting xp reinstall ect, removing all my usb keyboard drivers and software and reinstalling ect still the same issue with both keyboards, exactly. At first i thought that because i am based in the UK and my USB keyboard is from the US that was the issue but its the same problem with my standard PS/2 keyboard which got me thinking that it can only be somthing related to XP or some settings in XP.

Hey all!

I recently formated this computer and after the reformat, at least two programs seem to be using the English/American keyboard output instead of the Finnish that I'm supposed to have. The OS is Windows XP Pro Finnish and SP3 is installed.

These two programs are a viewer for the metaverse of Second Life and Call of Duty 4 Modern Warfare. They don't have the wrong layout all the time, just at random times or something like that. So far other programs don't have the wrong layout. I looked at the language settings in Control panel and everything is fine there. Also all the layouts in registry are correct.

What could be causing this?

Hello- After repairing my screen, Averatec returned my 5110P.Upon
return it has a keyboard problem. Averatec tells me that even though
the warranty ran out while in thier possession they cannot help me.

Here is the problem-

u types j
\ types nothing
d types x
f types nothing
g types v
j types u
x types f
v types g

Here are my attempted fixes-

1. NUM lock is off
2. HKEY_USERS/Default/Control panel/Keyboard has proper values
3. Updated drivers
4. Deleted/reinstalled drivers
5. Completly reinstalled OS (xp Pro) with start up disks

My Keyboard properties reads:

Japanese PS/2 Keyboard (106/109 Key)
Device type: Keyboards
Manufacturer: (Standard Keyboards)
Location: Plugged into Keyboard

If I go to Start/All Programs/Accessories/Accessibility/On-Screen
Keyboard, the on-screen keyboard types properly

The physical keyboard types the same whether in DOS or windows

I don't have an external keyboard, so I haven't tried that yet.

I believe the "Japanese" refers to manufacturer and not Language
because, I belive I have seen that keyboard for sale in systems that
are targeting english consumers.

I would greatly appreciate any suggestions. Thanks much,

i have try to find a correct driver on the toshiba support page in archive but i cant find driver for the keyboard

could you help me ?

Answer:Satellite A50-432 and WXP - wrong keyboard mapping

The question is what is your keyboard language layout?
I googled around for Toshiba Satellite A50-432 and it looks like this unit was released in Germany.
Does the keyboard support German language layout?

In such case you have to change the keyboard language to German too.

3. In the Add Input Language dialog box, choose the input language and keyboard layout or Input Method Editor (IME) you want to add.
4. Apply the settings. Now you should see a language icon in the System Tray and you could switch between different keyboard languages by pressing the ALT + SHIFT keys

I just bought a Yoga 910.  I have one of the first 13" models made in 2007-2008.  I loved the old one but the main board went out on it. Best Buy said Lenovo's cost for the board brought repair to $600 so I bought at 910.  OMG they moved the right shift key over to the other side of the curser mover keys!  You can not reach it while typing with correct hand placement!!!!  I am going to have to take it back.  Does anyone know how I can contact Lenovo and get a main board for my old one.  Lenovo's other laptops have the correct right shift key placement that matches all other keyboards so I may opt for one of them but I wanted the 910.  Is there a keyboard replacement for the 910?

Answer:910 keyboard right shift key wrong position

Why doesn't Lenovo distibute a software fix for this? (Key mapper) Given all of the complaints and the fact that every single online review of the product points this out as a serious flaw, one would think that Lenovo would write a little patch that you could download feom their support site. Instead we have to go download dubious 3rd party software. Honestly, this unwillingness to assist the customers that have already purchased lenovo hw is the main thing that will keep me from buying lenovo in the future.
