How to make radio speakers and computer speakers play at the same time?

Question: How to make radio speakers and computer speakers play at the same time?

Using a 3.5mm stereo mini phone plug to RCA jack adapter I have managed to connect my comps sound to the radio and it works. However, due to a fit of stupidity I have overlooked the fact that only either the radio's speakers or the computer's speakers can be connected to the computer's sound output at once.

I am wondering if its possible to have both my radio's speakers as well as my computer's speakers play at the same time because I would like to achieve a surround sound effect because of the way my room is made. My computer has a jack slot behind that looks like " (<-->)" , almost like that ordinary output one which looks like "(<-). Can that be used as an output slot as well? Cuz when I tried putting the radio into the (<-->) slot and the comps speakers into the (<-) or vice versa, only the one put into the (<-) will play.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Go get a splitter. I have my audio output setup using a splitter and it works fine. You can hook up both devices to the 1 output jack on your pc.

I am currently working on a homemade project in my free time called Project Surround. I am trying to get a full surround sound setup in my room. I have 2 wired speakers in the front and a Bluetooth speaker in the back. The problem is I need both the wired and Bluetooth speakers to play at the same time. Any way I can do that?

Answer:Play Audio from Wired Speakers and Bluetooth Speakers at the same time

Windows only allows one default audio playback device, thus unless you can find some third party app that will allow both, you won't be able to do that. You will need a full surround PC sound system.

How would one go about using both regular computer speakers and speakers on a tv hooked up with a hdmi cable. They work independently but not together.

Answer:use tv speakers and computer speakers at same time

I am pretty sure that cannot be done without a 3rd party program.

I'm writing this post because this was asked so many times over, but nobody seems to have come up with a good answer. People suggested some trials of paid programs, but that's not really an everyman solution. I don't know on how many machines my workaround will work, depends on the audio chip.

I'm going to tell you how to do this in foobar2000. My system is Win7.

0) I think that this will work only if you see something like this in your Playback devices (right-click windows audio icon & select from menu to launch it):

So if the headphone output is not "Ready" when nothing is plugged into it, you will maybe be able to use the HDMI output if you feel adventurous, or for that matter any output that you have. You possibly have no idea why I'm talking about that, but this will be clear after reading through the rest of my little manual.

1) download & install foobar2000 here:
play around with it of you don't know the player.

2) download & install the latest ASIO4ALL here:
leave all install options default.

3) download ASIO support for foobar2000:
double-click it, fb2k will install it automatically.

4) go to foobar2000 file->preferences->output->asio. Check if asio4all is visible at the top list. You can use the x64 driver (requires foobar2000 restart)

Answer:Make your laptop internal & external speakers play together

Props to OP - I've found a somewhat related hassle-free solution for desktops with Realtek Audio.

In the settings, you can 'disable front jack detection'. Therefore, speakers connected to the rear panel won't stop when you plug something else in the front.

I have a pair of Creative T40 speakers plugged into the 3.5mm jack on my laptop. I got hold of a bluetooth speaker and that was recognised straight-away.

I have installed a large monitor (32inch) to the laptop on which I work as well as watch movies and play games. I was wondering if I could setup that audio, be it music, gaming audio or movie audio could be played through BOTH sets of speakers.

The main T40's are on either side of the monitor and I have the bluetooth speaker behind me on a shelf. That would, kind-of, give me surround sound. Or when I have people over I could get better sound if I could just move the bluetooth speaker to a different part of the room.

Any ideas or suggestions?

Thank you.

I recently got a new HP zBook 15 with the slim docking station and am experiencing an issue related to the speaker output. If I plug my external powered Bose speakers into the line out of the docking station I get sound out of both the external Bose speakers and the internal laptop speakers at the same time. In addition the sound from the Bose speakers sounds horrible...tinny and completely lacking any bass. If I plug the Bose speakers into the headphone jack on the side of the laptop (not the docking station) then I get great sound and ONLY the Bose speakers produce sound (which is what I want). Is there a fix to get only the external speakers to play when plugged into the docking station audio out? I've uninstalled and re-installed the Conexent ISST Audio drivers change. I've tried messing with the B&O Sound Control panel, but it doesn't have any configuration for the audio ports. I've messed around in the Windows Playback devices control panel, but can't seem to find a way to shut off the internal laptop speakers. FYI, this is a fresh install of Windows 10 Pro. All Mircosoft updates installed. All HP updates installed via the HP Support Assistant. Latest laptop BIOS installed. Help! The sound output sounds HORRIBLE through the docking station. There must be a fix.

Answer:Speakers and headphones play at the same time?

Hi there
This sometimed happens with Realtek HD sound cards when the sound card is integrated into the Mobo.

Download and re-install the driver AND HD audio application.

(even if your sound card is not a REALTEK one I'd still re-install the driver (from the MOBO driver set / sound card CD) AND THE APPLICATION -- most of the sound card driver software usually has an application as well (such as a mixer. graphic equalizer etc).

I had an issue recently where I upgraded from OEM Vista x86 to Windows 7 Professional x86. There was very little sound coming from the internal speakers. I also had major BSODs from then, so obviously I was focusing my attention on the BSODs as a priority.

That issue has been resolved, however, or, at least, I implemented a workaround - reinstalling Vista. I no longer have BSODs.

The audio, however, is still extremely quiet. I've checked the following:

Went into properties and maximised the 'levels' on everything.

Went into volume mixer and maxed everything.

Went into Devmgmt.msc and tried updating drivers - drivers already up-to-date.

SOMETHING I HAVE NOTICED: I have two internal speakers as well as what I guess is a subwoofer (I'm sorry, I'm terrible with hardware - its icon looks like a box server or something. I'm currently at work so I'll upload screenshots when I get home).
ONLY ONE SPEAKER PLAYS AT A TIME. I can change between the speakers by right clicking and saying "set as default speaker" and that plays sound out of one at a time with no problems, unless I choose the subwoofer(?).

Is there a way to make both speakers play at the same time, instead of just using one of them?

All help appreciated!

Answer:Onboard Speakers Only Play One At A Time

Without knowing what kind of speakers and how they are connected, we can't really comment on the problem. More info is needed.

Normally, if the speakers are connected correctly both to the PC and internally in the speaker system, you can go to the Control Panel/Hardware and Sound and finally the Sound Panel, Playback section. Your "Speakers" should be set as the Default playback device and then you can click on Configure to configure the type of speaker system you have and also test the speakers.

I'm wondering if instead of buying a splitter, I can just have the headphone and speaker playing at the same time.

I have a stereo system that sounds better than the pc speakers, but the bass isn't as good as the pc speaker's subwoofer. All i want to do is be able to plug in the stereo system into the front headphone slot while having the pc speakers plugged into the back speaker slot and be able to play both at the same time.

What would be even better, but probably not possible, is if I could hook the pc speaker's subwoofer up to the stereo system but thats probably a lot of trouble..

Is there a way that I could make the 2 pc speakers and the 2 stereo system speakers be recognized by the computer as a 4 speaker system? again, probably impossible or too much trouble.

Answer:How can i play through headphones and speakers at the same time?

You plug the stereo system into the rear channel and the PC speakers to the front channel (or vice versa) - that's what i have set up and it works just fine.

You need to fiddle with your soundcard settings to get it to run in 4 speaker mode.

So, my problem is that both the speakers and the headphones play in my HP laptop at the same time.

When I go into my playback devices I have three options:

1. ATI HDMI Output
2. Speakers and headphones (same device)
3. headphones

When my headphones are connected the third still shows them as unconnected but sound will play through both the speakers and the headphones.

I am wondering if there's any way that I can fix this so that I can have sound play out of just one or the other.

I have tried the following things:

-system restore
-updating my sound drivers

Thanks for any future help.

Answer:Headphones and speakers play at the same time

With no system specs specified we can't say exactly. But, in newer HD audio sound systems they autodetect when something is plugged in. If you have one of these devices it is either the driver or there is a hardware problem with the sound chip.

Hello -

I was trying to fix another audio problem that I had recently, and when I reconnected my speakers, I must've done it incorrectly!!!!
I also have a subwoofer thingy (you can tell I am not very computer-knowledgable), and I'm not sure if I connected it to the right place either.

Anyway, now I hear a radio station thru the speakers very lightly in the background (even when i shut down my computer I still hear it).

In addition, I had also fooled with all the volume buttons, and maybe that caused this prob? I dunno.

Can anyone help me fix this prob?

a) what should my volume buttons be set at?
b) how do I get rid of the radio sound coming out of my speakers?
c) What is the correct way to connect the speakers to my computer, and the subwoofer thingy?

Answer:radio coming out of my computer speakers?

This sounds like you are getting some sort of electrical or radio interference that your speakers are somehow very vaguely picking up and broadcasting. If you have many electrical or radio wave objects around your speakers, I suggest moving them. It may just be due to the fact that you live a very highly dense radio wave area, around cellular towers, radio broadcast towers, etc.

I'm not familiar with the configuration of your speakers so I do not know how to properly set them up, read the manual and if need be, contact constumer support about any or all of these issues and they will hopefully be able to answer your questions.

I have a Satallite L500. I am having problems with my sound.
When I insert my jacks for the headphones and play something, sound comes out of both the headphones as well as the laptop speakers.
I want to turn off the laptop speakers but still receive sound from the headphones.
There is a horrible "echo" when both headphones and speakers are on at the same time. I am new to Vista and for the life of I can't figure out what's going on.

When I first got the laptop everything worked fine. I then bought some speakers for those times I wanted to listen to external speakers.
I would unplug the headphone jacks and plug in the speaker jack.
Ever since doing this, whenever I plug in the headphones the laptop speakers are also playing.

Also, when I first got the laptop whenever I would plug in the headphone jacks, a message would pop up on the screen indicating that the microphone and audio jacks were detected. I no longer get this message.

Any advice would be appreciated.

hi tango123,
i think some sort of "confusion" is in the registry.
just deinstall the sounddriver
after that reboot and reinstall (look for the current driver at toshibas driver downloadsite)
make sure you use a stereo jack!

for the echo issue try to mute the mic to test.

I had a home theater system I bought for a couple hundred bucks with the Dolby 5.1 speakers.

The CD/DVD player on the Home theater system broke after a couple of years. Not a big deal as it wasn't real expensive. Anyway, I went out and bought another cheap one.

Well, now I have these 5.1 Dolby speakers that sound great (I'm only a minor audiophile) to me. I went out and got a Creative Live 24 Bit 5.1 capable sound card.

It is worth mentioning that the 5.1 speakers each had there own individual port on the home theater system. In other words, while the Creative sound card has three output for the 5.1 system, the speakers I want to convert don't have the kind of set up right now to accomodate this.

Does anyone know how to transform 5.1 home theater speakers to 5.1 sound card with 3 sound outputs on a Create Live computer capable speakers? I can't imagine this has never been done before.

Thanks for all your help in advance.

Answer:Transforming 5.1 Home Theater Speakers to 5.1 Computer speakers

If the amplifier has RCA input jacks for channels, you could just use three regular 3.5mm stereo jack - 2 x RCA cables, just connect them correctly.

Another alternative, if the option is available, is to use S/PDIF, but then you wouldn't get multichannel sound from games (lack of Dolby Digital encoding).

had a bad virus attack that took out windows defender and avira antivirus. i'm now using ad aware and windows firewall. if i even attempt to open windows defender or run avira i get the blue screen of death (vista 32 bit style). i can't run windows restore as it tells me there is a disk error and i've ran ckdsk /f and /r and no fix.
i'm confident that i will eventually get all the bugs worked out. the virus was 'malware defender'. i was able to remove it but as i said above, there's lots of fixing to do.
the one thing i'm stumped on is that now when i have my speakers on i'm getting bits and pieces of ads. like part of the ad for musinex and a few others. it seems to be random, there is nothing else running, it just plays out of the blue. anyone? help?

Answer:My Computer will randomly play ads through my speakers for no reason at all.

You are more than likely infected. problems running, updating AV programs is one sign of this. it will also stop you from most attempts to remove it or stop the problems it causes.
Go to malware removal forum and read the instructions.
good luck

I wonder if there is a filter or something else that can help me eliminate this noise when I plug the Laptop power cord

Answer:Speakers make static noise when I plug to the computer

You likely have something else in the room or on the line emitting electrical interference. The speakers are just amplifying it.

I just changed from Bose Companion 3 speakers to Companion 5 because the 3 died. The 3 system used a stereo jack plugged into the headphone jack and worked fine until the Bose power supply(?) failed. The 5 uses a USB to connect.

I have an HDMI cable from my TV set top box to computer. Selecting the HDMI input shows only full screen TV display on computer. Also there is a coax cable from set top box to TV tuner card in computer. This allows TV to be displayed via Media Center in an adjustable window and I can open other windows (a browser, for instance) simultaneously. I choose which connection to use on my computer.

Previously with the Companion 3 speakers all sound came from them no matter the source. Now with the 5 speakers the HDMI TV source the sound comes from computer speakers not the Bose speakers. But if I play my music files (using Media Player) or TV (using Media Center) the sound does come from Bose speakers. Also sound from internet (YouTube, news videos, etc.) comes through Bose speakers.

Maybe someone has had this problem and knows a solution.

Answer:Some content from computer speakers and some from external speakers

I'm confused on where you plug in your hdmi set top box. Into your DISPLAY directly using and HDMI in port or some other HDMI in on your PC (like a graphics card?)

Also you have external computer speakers? do they plug in to your pc analog style? I know you said the Bose 5's are with usb.

Ok, not totally sure this is the place to ask, but does anyone know what I might do to stop the infuriating intrusion upon my Logitec X-530 5.1 speakers by the worst reggae/hip-hop/dancepop station I have ever heard? The station gets picked up by many other things in my apartment as well; guitar amps, roommates speakers, even headphones, but none as bad as mine. Random moving of wires has an effect, but its hard to say what makes it better and what makes it worse- sometimes a position that worked well at one point becomes terrible later on. Does anyone have any ideas on how I might solve this problem? My roommates and I are considering firebombing the radio station if we can't get rid of it, and I'd rather not have to kill anyone. The cables are attached to the speakers, so I can't use shielded wire, and the goons at radioshack were useless. On a side note, there is also a hum in the speakers caused (I think) by some sort of EMI- again, moving the wires helps, but there seems to be no logic to what helps as one position may alleviate the hum for a little while, but it eventually comes back.
If there is another section on this sight or even another sight I should ask this on, please let me know, and thanks.

Answer:usb wireless speakers cut out computer speakers

No. You can only select a single audio device as the "default audio" source. In your case, that would be the standard audio chipset (to use the line out) or the USB chipset for the wireless speakers.

Something connected or in the Computer is picking up Radio Frequencies. It is some sort of coil that does this, that the coils turns coincide with a Chanel. May be a Mic etc. The Speakers only amplify what the sound card is picking up

I just moved into a hotel for university (our college bought a hotel and turned it into our residence) and everyone's computer speakers pick up radio signals. It didn't happen before I moved in here..

If your computer is idle or playing music or whatever the same faint radio signal can be heard from my speakers and sub-woofer.

Anybody have a solution to this? Someone suggested "shielding" for a similar problem but I'm not sure what that is or how to do that..

Answer:Speakers pick up radio signals

Well I've never heard of this problem before. I dont think your speakers are picking up the signal through the airwaves, but it is probably coming in through some other route and being amplified by your speakers.

Do you know what station you are picking up and where it is broadcast from?
Is it an AM waveband channel with a transmitter source nearby?
Does the sound go away when you disconnect the speakers from your PC, but leave them powered up?

Radio broadcasts are at very high frequencies, so if you are picking something up, it will likely be on an amplitude modulated carrier (AM waveband), which may be coming in through the mains supply circuit. I'm only guessing here, but if you can get hold of a mains filter, then give it a try. Be sure to use it with both your speaker's psu and with your PC, though I suspect the speaker's will prove the more likely culprit.

Would anyone be able to explain why there is a very quiet foreign radio station coming from my logtech 5.1 surround sound speakers, even when my computer is set to mute, and the volume knob on the speakers at the minimum? It's kinda freaking me out a bit.

Answer:Random foreign radio coming from speakers

The speaker leads are acting as an aerial. Try spreading them in a slightly different configuraton or buying some shielded speakers. (I think that`s what they`re called) Ferrite rings on the wires could also help I seem to remember frm another similar post.

This problem occurred yesterday and I find it rather strange. Don't know if it has anything to do with installing Aimp3, but it happened after its installation.

The sound coming from speakers is clearly a radio and it is heard just enough so you know it's there, I'm not running any programs or have and cd-s that would make that sound. I have checked the system with adwcleaner_4.102, and nothing happened. Same thing with my Avast antivirus. After rebooting the system the sound remains, therefore I shut down the entire machine and the sound was still coming through speakers (WTF?!). And I notice that if I unplug the speakers, the radio sound stops...but while the computer is turned off and with speakers plugged in, the radio sound is hearable.

I will post a hijack scan so it might come useful.
Any help is welcome

This has been bugging me for months and now I am on a mission to do something about it. Every day I hear an annoying beeping sound from my computer speaker subwoofer that sounds like some kind of a digital code (think morse code) that lasts for 1-2 seconds, then about 1 second later another code that lasts about 1 second. It happens several times every day, and I can't pinpoint a certain time of day.

I hear it from my subwoofer even though the volume is turned all the way down, and at the same time from my am/fm clock radio which also has the volume turned all the way down (which is the primary reason it annoys me... because it wakes me up). That also tells me it is coming from the power line, not coming from the computer.

I have my computer and speakers on an EMI/RFI filtered outlet, but whatever it is still gets through. I am thinking a large isolation transformer might work, and garden variety UPS may not help. Has anybody had experience with this?

Just received my new laptop: *SATELLITE C55D-A-15H*

The sound that comes out of the speakers is *horrible*.
It's like an old transistor radio from the 1960's.

According to the specifics for this particular model, the sound system should be by Realtek but, instead, it is by IDT Audio. It comes with DTS Sound, which apparently "boosts volume, enhances bass and improves definition" and is supposed to give "deep, rich bass and crystal clear dialogue".

This is absolute nonsense.
There is virtually no bass and the _sound is very tinny_.

I have tried to switch off the DTS Sound programme, and just use the laptop sound system, but it cannot be adjusted in any way. There is _no enhancements tab in the speakers properties_.

The sound is good with headphones, by the way, but I also want to be able to have decent sound from the speakers.

Can anyone please help?

Answer:Re: Satellite C55D-A-15H speakers sound like transistor radio

Hey there, There is only 2 things you could do to fix that problem,
First: re install the sound driver, maybe something happened who knows?
if you installed it and it didn't work then do this step:
Second:Get it to the warranty ASAP and they will fix it for you.

I was just listening to music on FULL speaker setting and I turned off the music program and then going to turn down the speaker volume knob when I heard a FAINT big band MUSIC coming from them, so i put my ear to it and it was the LOCAL RADIO AM 1160 radio station!!!!!!!!!! WTH??????

I dont have ANY tuners on my PC OR radio programs nor did it come with one but MAYBE IT WAS A RARE thing between the radio frequency and my speakers just at the right time..WOW

it gets louder the more i pickup and move the speaker around

Answer:CRAZY local radio broadcasts on my SPEAKERS, no programs do i have for this

Any copper wire can act as an AM radio antennae. Get shielded speaker wire and it won't happen. We actually had AM radio coming in on a clients phone lines for a while until we got some filters to put on them.

Today, I ran a high quality 36ft. quad-shield RCA cable from my workstation to my stereo system. The cable runs through the dropped ceiling and away from any power lines. After doing this, I connected it to my AirPort Express, which is already connected to my network and my Samsung ML-2010.

I noticed noise at the end of songs and during quiet parts, so I turned the iTunes volume all the way down and turned my stereo amp all the way up and could very clearly hear a Spanish language (seemingly talk) radio station.

I connected the same cable to my iPod and there was no interference, so I started unplugging things on my desk to see if I could come up with anything. Eventually, I got to the ML-2010 (the printer connected to the AirPort) and the radio stopped. I plugged it back in and removed the USB cable and the interference also stopped. I could literally start and stop the interference by touching the USB cable to the AirPort.

Oddly enough, it seems to correct itself if I turn off the Graphic Equalizer I have the cable connected to. I've bypassed my EQ since I can control it in iTunes.

Anyone have any suggestions? I like having the EQ, but I'm willing to part with it. Does anyone know why the printer might be doing this; should I talk to Apple?

Several symptoms that started around the same time; I've dug into them individually without much success.

1. The speakers faintly deliver a radio program (I think it's Fox) whenever they are turned on, even if they are not connected to the computer.
2. The sound on various EA games (Spore, SIMS 3, Bejeweled Twist) doesn't work.
3. Generally very slow performance with IE 8

Hello, found your site after trying to remove/fix the problem by myself. Wish I knew about you guys before I went through all the steps I've already taken. Hope you can help.

My internet speed is fine. I am experiencing Google redirects to various advertisement sites and antivirus-removal sites. I am also experiencing something that sounds like a radio station playing over my speakers. When I load up anything on the internet, any site, it takes an extremely long time to load. I assume it has something to do with the malware I cannot remove or the loads of anti-virus/malware removal I have downloaded to fix the problem.

I have been using (and pay for) Advanced System Care 5, Norton 360. Trying to resolve the issue myself I have recently started using Spybot and Ad-Aware and when I got frustrated I added Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, SuperAntispyware Professional, Kapersky Security Scan, Norton Power Eraser and even ran ComboFix once. Yes, I'm sorry, I should have gone to the professionals but I didn't know about you guys until now. My programs have removed a number of tracking cookies and I believe it is Spybot that keeps locating something called iCrossrider that it removes frequently.

Other than the issues above, my computer is running fine.

My documents are attached. Please note that GMER did not find anything and did not produce a log. I was only able to save a blank Ark.txt file.

Answer:Sound issue on my Satellite L650 - I hear radio frequency in my speakers

To be honest I don?t know how can you use 5.1 system with your laptop. As far as I know on most laptops you can use 2.1 system only.
Has your Satellite optical audio out port?

It is really interesting issue and I would like to hear this ?radio frequency?.

Have you tested it with and without AC power supply. Is there any difference?

I've just started using MediaMonkey and I can't get it to play any internet radio stations that have an mms:// address. I've tried pasting the address into the 'open file or location' box and the name of the station appears, but nothing plays. I can play these stations in WinAmp, but I hate having to have another program just for that. I've done a Google search and looked through the MediaMonkey forums but I can't find anything to help (nothing that I understand anyway). Does anyone know if this can be done?

With Dell Support Assist microphone test -- earphone playback is good, on-board speaker is terribly scratchy. The sound card lists as "ATI high Definition Audio Device" and "IDT High Definition Audio CODEC."
The laptop is Dell Studio 15 (1555) running windows 7 Professional, 236GB used, 214GB free space, Intel P8700 2.53 GHz Processor, 64 bit OS, 4GB memoryThe built-in speakers used to sound good but now they are too scratchy to understand. However the headset and external speakers (both 3.5 mm jack interface) sound good and a HDMI connected projector sounds good.
I will appreciate advice.

Answer:On-board speakers are scratchy but external speakers & headphones sound good?

Hello. As a test, switch from the IDT audio driver to the Windows native audio driver.
1. Open the Device Manager (find it in the Control Panel, or type devmgmt.msc into the search box).2. Expand the "Sound, video & game controllers" and right click on "IDT High Definition Audio Device".3. Select to "Update Driver Software".4. Click on "Browse my computer for driver software".5. Click "Let me pick from a list of drivers on my computer".6. Put a check in the box "Show compatible hardware" if not already checked.7. In the list of devices, click "High Definition Audio" (the native driver).8. Click "Next".9. On the Update Driver Warning box, click "Yes" (install the driver). 10. Restart the laptop if prompted. If not prompted, then no need to restart.[To get back to the IDT driver, do it again but reverse the names in steps 2 and 7.]
If you get the noise while using the native driver then it is not a driver issue, which would mean there is a strong chance of speaker failure, particularly since the noise is not in headphones. If you would like to replace the speakers I can point you to the service manual.

Once I plug my headphones in or my hearing aids bluetooth device in, it all goes south. The internal speakers continue to work as does the bluetooth, but nothing is coming out of the headphones. Since I was once in IT, this problem is unique to the jack itself. Either the jack lifted up or was pushed back and never properly tested. The hook, I just received this computer 3 weeks ago to replace a faulty HDMI out port. I was told that there would be an open ticket so if I had any problems with this computer it would be attended to. Unfortunately, that is not the case.

I have a speaker system that consists of a sub-woofer and four smaller speakers. Until a week ago; they were all working properly. Now they seem to have a mind of their own. Here are the symptoms of the problem.
When Windows starts; the start-up sound plays through the front speakers and the sub only. When I play an audio cd on Windows Media Player; the sound plays through the front speakers and the sub only. If I play a video game on the cd-rom; it plays through all of the speakers. If I listen to music sent to me by E-mail; I hear it through all of the speakers also.
All I can think is that I must messed with a "setting" somewhere by mistake. My sound card has lots of "toys" that I play with alot. Maybe that's where the problem is ??? I dunno. Help is appreciated....I would like to get all my speakers back all the time. Thanks in advance..........Joe

How to make the L500 also do the same?

First try updating the BIOS to the latest version.

Also check the Sound Settings in Windows - perhaps you can configure this 'feature'.

Hello. After you re-install the Realtek audio driver, run the audio test in the ePSA diagnostic. If you cannot hear tones during the test, then the speakers have failed or become disconnected. If you do hear the tones then the speakers are okay.
You can test the driver by switching it with the Windows native driver.

You may check the Realtek HD Audio Manager in the Control Panel.
In the top right corner, there's a little yellow folder called "Connector Settings?.
There, you could enable the setting "Enable pop-up dialog, when device is plugged in".
Now when you plug in an external speaker or headphones, it pops up and I select the option "headphone" (instead of "line-in"), and then the sound comes out only through the headphones/ext.speaker.

Hi everyone,

I've been researching and pulling my hair out, and starting to think what I'm after is somehow not possible to achieve.

My goal is to be able to record my screen, my speakers, and my mic (narration), while also being able to playback ONLY my speakers to my headphones.

Basically, I wish to monitor ONLY the speaker audio, WITHOUT my mic (narration).

I thought I could achieve this by using Realtek HD Audio Manager, which allows you to playback two different audio streams simultaneously. However, it would seem that only certain Windows applications which are written to give you the option of changing the playback device can take advantage of this feature. The particular Windows application which I am recording does not give me that option.

So essentially I am wondering if there is a way to force an application to output to a particular playback device, ie. the Realtek HD Audio 2nd Output. The Realtek HD Audio 2nd Output would play to my headphones (application audio ONLY) while at the same time I would be able to record my screen, my speakers, and my mic all together at once.

I did find this post which broke my heart as it seems this might not be possible due to Windows only providing a single mixer, but wanted to try asking around here too -> Different audio output for certain programs [Solved] - Multimedia - Apps General Discussion

I have two monitors (one VGA and one HDMI ) to the CPU (new XPS 8700), but sound only comes out of the monitor speaker with the HDMI connection.  The other speaker does work and has been tested with a 3.5MM speaker cable.
The video card is NVIDA GTX 745.  In the audio set-up control panel from the NVIDIA, I disabled audio from the HDMI thinking that I could then run 3.5MM cable on a Y splitter to the audio out port and by-pass the HDMI cable.  I tried every port and either experienced no sound or sound in one or the other speaker.
I realize these speakers are not the best and I am fine with them.  I like the clean clutter desktop look.
Can anyone help me to get both of these monitor speakers working?

I have an HP 550 laptop running Win XP SP3. I use the headphones most of the time. Recently I found that when I plug the headphones in, the speakers keep playing and there seems to be no option anywhere to turn them off. The volume control only lists a single wave output device and Device Manager has no option or tab which differentiates between speakers and headphones. After 10 minutes of chasing my tail on the HP customer support site, which demanded an "SKU" (no description of same or information on where to find it, the link just goes back to the main support page and I'm having to start over from scratch picking my device type), or a product number and which wouldn't accept the P/N I entered ("more than 500 hits, please narrow the search" and back to the beginning we go yet again) - bearing in mind that I'm having to turn a plugged in, running laptop upside-down in order to find the label on the bottom of the machine, while I'm currently online and on the HP website trying to get help on the issue - I gave up looking for a BIOS update. My question is this: Is there any solution to the problem other than sending the machine in for repairs? And if there is a BIOS update, is there a direct link that doesn't involve surfing in circles on the HP support site, which seems to have been deliberately coded with the single purpose of driving innocent people insane? Thanks.

Like the topic states, once my computer automatically goes into hibernate mode (after a period of non-use), the speakers won't play when I get back onto the computer and Windows comes back up. The only way I can get them to function again is to restart the computer.

Is there a setting that I don't know about?

Please help!!
EDIT: I am using XP SP2

Answer:Speakers Won't Play After Hibernation

Sorry But that shouldn't happen... try posting again in the Audio, Video, and Graphics section near the bottom half of the forum.
I've been Googling in my spare time and I actually found a similar topic on the forums in the audio section about hibernation and speaker problems. I don't think that one has been resolved yet, so I'm still trying ;)

When my computer makes a sound, whether it's music or a system sound, it only plays through the right speaker. My speaker is plugged into the audio port of my motherboard.

Any help appreciated

Answer:Sound won't play through both speakers

Hey lambury,

Did you already try reinstalling your drivers?

It's possible that the line itself on your speaker could be bad.

I have a normal desktop computer with a HDMI splitter that delivers video to my monitor as well as an image to my Panasonic TV on port HDMI 3 (HDMI 1 is TV and 2 is Playstation).

On my computer, audio is played using Bose Companion 5 speakers and this works well.

Is it possible to play audio on my TV as well as from my Bose speakers? My Samsung monitor does not include speakers so no sound will be played from it so that will not be a problem.

When selecting playback options in the Sound settings I seem only able to select sound out either via Bose or the monitor (that also delivers sound to the TV)...

Hope you can help me

Answer:Is it possible to play sound both from PC speakers and out via TV?

It is possible but it depends on the capabilities and settings of your sound card that you failed to list in your system specs, and unless you can sync up the two outputs you will have an echo.

The trick involves fooling your sound card into thinking it has two outputs for sound by funneling the TV sound through your microphone.

I had to restore my computer cause it crashed so I have reloaded Windows XP but now I can't seem to get my plug n play speakers to work... When I plug them in it doesn't show up anything new and also the speaker volume icon doesn't show on the bottom right and I have also gone into sounds to see if I can add a device and it won't allow me to do this either. Any help would be gratefully appreciated.

Answer:plug n play speakers

I doubt the problem is the speakers. You need to install the driver for your sound card. Many sound "cards" are part of the motherboard ie onboard sound. We would need to know your exact specs in order to find a driver for you.

I have experienced this problem before, when i take the speakers plug-in out and plug i back in the sound doesn't work any more i fixed it a couple of times but can't remember how i done it. so could you please help me solve this issue

Answer:my PC used to play sound through speakers not any more why?

Why do you need to unplug the speakers anyway? When you plug them back in, make sure you plug them in to the correct jack on the back of your PC. This is usually the one with a light-green bezel. The other two jacks (blue & pink) are for line-in and microphone. After plugging them back in, you may just need to restart Windows to fix the problem. If it's already plugged into the correct jack and still no sound after restarting Windows, try re-installing the audio driver which you can download from your PC manufacturer's website, or if it's a soundcard which was not fitted by the PC manufacturer, download the driver from the soundcard manufacturer's website.

in the last couple of days ive had this little problem. when surfing the net, nothing crazy just normal stuff like checking email and reading the news, my speakers will make this odd sound.

its two very short sounds about 2 seconds apart. the best way i can describe the sound is if you were to get a piece of fabric and hold it fairly taut and then you pinch the middle, pull it back a little bit and let it go. that is the sound. i know that sounds weird but thats what it is.

ive been able to determine that this page is one page that causes the sound to occur:

i refreshed the page several times. the first sound would always happen after the entire page had loaded. the second sound would occur after i had been redirected down the page to the comment that i had made

i recently reinstalled windows xp (about 2 weeks ago) and ive installed very few programs.

has anybody every heard of something that sounds similar to this? im assuming the answer would probably be "no", so in that case is there anything i can to do try and isolate the problem and determine what it causing it?

Hi All,

I have an Acer Travelmate 220 which is making a continuous chirping/clicking sound from the speakers even when the volume is turned totally off.
It starts as soon as I boot the machine.
The problem started when the machine overheated (it's that hot in Africa).
It just rebooted and showed a brief (.5 sec) blue screen/dump before starting up.
I shut it down and let it cool and when I next started it the sound was there.
It's been there for the past three-four weeks and is driving me crazy.
I don't want to disconnect the speakers, are they fried for good?
I also have a Dell needed a bios password, but alas, that's another story.
Any and all help will be appreciated.

Answer:Speakers make chirping sound

Unfortunately, it making the niose the moment it starts up probably means the built in sound card has fried!!!!

I recieved some speakers for my birthday in february. They've worked nice but in the past few months I've noticed that when i adjust the volume they make a fuzzy sound. It's really no big deal but I was wondering if anyone has any ideas on why they do this. I don't believe that its anything with my computer, but I've tried a few things and nothings worked. There Altec Lansing VS.2121. Its just two speakers with a subwoofer and they cost about 50-60 dollars i believe.
I'm getting some more ram and maybe a graphics cards for christmas should I add a sound card to the list too?

Answer:Speakers Make A Fuzzy Sound

Well, a sound card won't hurt any! It'll do you good, but I don't think that this will fix the problem.

Have you tried relocating your speakers? Move them to a different spot, and make sure that they're not near any power cords, or any type of cords for that matter. The speaker wire themselves might be picking up interference from a power cord or another cord. Cordless phones have been known to interfere with some speakers (only happened to me once though). You might have to move your speakers more than once, and don't forget to move your subwoofer.

Hope this helps! Let us know how you made out with this.

I have a 2008 Inspiron 5118. At the time of the purchase a friend hooked me up with some really nice PC speakers, so apparently I hid the four Dell speakers in a drawer in the attic and forgot about hem. I found them today and am trying to hook up to an old Compaq but can't figure out how they work. There is no power plug for any of them or power adapter inlet on any of them and they do not connect together in any way. They just seem odd in configuration, but IU would sure like to use them at work. . ANY help at all determining how to make them useful would be much appreciated.

Hey everyone is there anyway to boost the sound a a laptop? My cousin just got one and he barely can hear his DVDs? is there an amplifier or sumthing in a program i can download? Thanks 4 looking.

Answer:Any way to make laptop speakers louder?

Anyway to make LAPTOP speakers louder?

That's pretty common for laptops. But as long as you checked all the "volume" locations, that's about it as far as I know.

From the speaker icon in the system tray. To control panel audio section, make sure the pan is in the middle, that the speakers are set to stereo speakers, and the main volume slider is all the way. All this can be done from in there. But there is more then one location for volume. Also use the laptop's function keys to up the volume, as this can sometimes be sepparate from Windows control. And lastly the volume of the DVD playing software itself, may also be sepparate.

But as far as I know, there is no such thing as a software amp.

Hey! I bought a plug and play monitor with embeded speakers.. The monitor works great! But the speakers do not!!! I have everything plugged in right and it still doesn't work.

The monitor/speakers I bought is the 17 inch LCD monitor by Westinghouse
When I go to the sound and audio devices part of the control pannel, it sais "No Audio Device"
When I go to the hardware part it says that everything is working properly.
I am running windows XP Home Edition
I was thinking my computer is confused and only thinks it is a monitor, but the speaker part has its own seperate plug (the little green type)

I don't know what else to say about it so I guess we can just start with that.

My Altec Lansing Xt1 speakers are not working. They were working for about 18 months fine until a few days ago.

My sound card is built in on my Asus motherboard and uses SoundMax Audio drivers.

Normally, when I plug them in, it'll switch the from my headphones (which is directly connected to the computer) to my speakers. However now, there is no more sound. My computer recognizes that it is connected. I click on Audio options, and my speakers are listed.

When I press the On/Off button there'll be about .5 sec to 1 sec which I hear some audio from my speakers but then it goes dead. Every time I turn it on and off, there's that split sec where some audio goes through.

However, it doesn't work anymore. I have tried
-Using a different usb power cord
-Plugging into other USB ports, including the front and back usb ports
-System restore to before the problem started
-Uninstalling the drivers for the speakers and letting it auto-install when I plug in again

It worked briefly when I plugged it into my front port. However, the next day when I plugged my speakers back in, it was non functional again.

Isn't Altec Lansing a decent brand, or are my speakers broken after less than 2 years? Any help would be appreciated - thanks.

Answer:Plug & Play Speakers not working

If your usb ports work properly with other plug n play devices, then it seems like you have a problem with the output on the speakers. Don't you have a warranty for the speakers? Send them for fixing.

Hello, I'm new and wondering if i can be helped on this.

I have an audigy sound card with altec lansing 4.1 speakers. I want to listen to music, watch dvds, and all i ever seem to get is sound from the front 2 speakers. I have looked at the creative speaker diagnostic and set it up for 4.1 use and have run a sound test and all speakers work properly! i've then made sure this is synchronised with control panel (quadspeakers). However when playing audio -cd's,other only plays from 2 speakers.

any reasons why? solutions?

Answer:audio does not play from all speakers, but only front 2.

Stereo encoded audio is intended to only play out of the front channels, no problem there. For multichannel playback you need a multichannel source, e.g. 3D Audio supporting game, multi-channel audio (Certain music formats, not CD) & in the case of DVD your DVD player needs to support 4.1 output.
Beyond that, if sound test works fine there's nothing wrong.

I have a Inspiron15 3000 series, model 3567 (Win 10).  The problem I am having is when I plug in headphones to watch video or web streaming, I hear the audio thru the headphones but it is still playing audio thru the laptop speakers.  Quite annoying to room mates.  Every laptop I have had before would automatically disable speakers when headphones in use, either one or the other played never both.  Is there a setting for this or do I have a hardware problem?  The laptop is brand new.

Thanks for any help....

Hi everyone,

I have had this problem for a while now not sure what started it though. My Acer 1410 Laptop speakers only will play when the headphone jack is connected to something. It seems that it is confused on when headphones are plugged in and when they are out. I have tried to uninstall and reinstall the Realtek drivers but with no results. Is there a way to switch it back??

Thanks a alot for helping!

Answer:Speakers play ONLY when headphones are plugged in

Your drivers may have a setting that allows you to play different things through the headphones than the speakers. I bet you could find a solution using that setting.
