Blank screen first time starting computer (no beeps,no bios)

Question: Blank screen first time starting computer (no beeps,no bios)

I recently decided to order parts and build my first computer (here are the parts):
(I bought two of the memory packages for a total of 4GB, I also thought that the parts were compatable)

I assembled the parts and I thought the only error I might have made was in connecting the power supply to the components. However, when I pressed the power button all the lights and fans went on and I know the disk drive was working. Using a HDMI connection (and I tried VGA), the monitor remained blank. No bios came up and there was no beeping or shutting off or over heating.

Does anyone have any advice? I would really appreciate it.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I am having problems with my computer and I need help. I have a Windows Vista Home Premium x64 bit, well i will attach the computer information. My computer beeps 5 time on start up, takes several times for my computer to turn on. But they are 5 continously fast beeps. Im going to explain step by step on what i think probably affected this case. Well I have an anti-virus program: Which for me is Norton Internet Security. Well my anti-virus is up to date. Somehow a virus got in my computer which I found since, every time i started up my computer and clicked on task manager. To see whats running and every time their would be 4 Internet Explorer.exe running and i tryed to exit them out so i couldn't. So what i did i scanned my whole computer With Norton Internet Security, Norton Power Eraser, and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, which found some viruses. So i deleted them and restarted my computer for the effect. I saved a log file from the scan results which i will attach in the attachments also. Well after all that the internet explorer.exe no longer were opened, also when i had that virus i for example searched aol mail, and clicked on aol mail, and it took me to a random page. Like download helper, but i exited it out. I will attach Norton Recent Virus history also. On firefox everytime i start it up norton tells me Blocked: Adware.Singalng.Download like that every time. Well the problem here is my computer beeps 5 times on start up every time and it takes several times ... Read more

Hi everyone,
I have a Dell XPS 17 L702x that I was prepping to sell.  The basic specs are:
Intel i7-2760QM
16GB of RAM (4GB x4)
NVIDIA GeForce GT 555M with 1080p 3D screen
500GB 7200 RPM HDD x2
Windows 10 Pro
Like I said, I was prepping to sell the laptop.  The laptop was functioning properly.  I had wiped the HDDs clean and was in the middle of performing a clean install of Windows 10 pro from a USB drive.  I have done this before and never had a problem.  The install started correctly. I selected the drive that I wanted, and the installer wrote the files to the drive.  The laptop then restarted.  The power came back on, the fan started up, and I could hear the optical drive and HDDs spin up.  However, the screen stayed blank/black, and the Dell splash screen never appeared.  The activity light on the USB drive never comes on.  The normal functions keys do nothing.
Here are some troubleshooting things that I have tried:
I removed the RAM and HDDs.  I get the typical 2 beeps from not having any RAM.  Motherboard seem ok.
I have tested the RAM in my work Latitude E6430.  The E6430 will boot with the RAM from the L702x.  The RAM seems ok.
I have tested each stick of RAM one at a time in various slots in the L702x.  Same problem, blank screen, and no beeps.
I have connected the HDDs to the E6430 with a SATA to USB cable.  I can format and read/write from/to the HDDs.  The HDDs seem ok.

Hi all! Since BIOS-Update my Laptop has sometimes a strange problem: when starting I get a black screen and 4 short beeps. Laptop does not start. But when I remove power cable it works without a problem. Does anyone have the same problem? I want to find out if BIOS 2.35 is buggy (think so) or if my Laptop has a problem. Thank you very much - kind regards,Jürgen Product 20AQCTO1WWBIOS GJET85WW (2.35)SMBIOS Version 2.712 MB RAMSamsung 219,62 GB Core i7 4600 U CPU 2,10 GHzWindows 10

Answer:T440s after BIOS 2.35 update: 4 beeps and black screen when starting unless power cable is removed

Hi, I got a similar problem after the BIOS update about 1 week ago, whether I unplugged or not. What's more, the latest System Update version in my Thinkpad T440s always stops in the middle. At the moment, I just disabled the Sleep and use Hibernate instead to avoid the all black screen and beeps when waking up from sleep.

Hello everyone,
I've got a problem with my graphics card Nvidia 6800XT. It worked normally before but now I cannot start PC, it displays blank screen when I turn it on and I hear few beeps after that, but there's still nothing on screen. Everything works fine if I try with MX440 card or Graphics controller. I'm uncertain if it's really happening because of card and if I should test it on another PC. It may be because of power too, but I can't tell because everything was working fine before.

Here's some info about my PC:

ASRock P4i65G
Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU, 3.00 GHz x86
2.00 GB of RAM
Samsung SyncMaster 753DFX
Nvidia 6800XT (256MB) / Nvidia MX440 8x AGP (64MB) / Intel(R) 82865G Graphics Controller (96MB)
160 GB and 20 GB Hard Disks
230W Power Supply
Windows XP SP 3, 32 bit

Thanks in advance.

Answer:BIOS not starting, blank screen

Test the card in another PC. It will likely work fine.

Based on your specs, I'd say you need a new power supply.

This is probably a well known problem etc but I'll ask for help anyway. Any help is gladly appreciated.I sent my laptop to Acer for not very long ago because the screen was blurry. So I've now got it back and it was working fine for a few days, but then yesterday the screen went black after a while. Have restarted it several times. Sometimes the thing beeps three times, other times it doesn't. But the screen is always black. What's wrong with it? Is there something I can do to fix this or should I send my computer back for repair again?

Answer:Black/blank screen. 3 beeps when turning on computer

If your repairs are being covered under a warranty then definitely send it back. I would be pushing for a replacement rather than a repair given the previous problem.truenorth

Hi All,
I have been struggling with this problem for more than a week now.
I bought a new video card Conquerer FX5200 Plus (nvidia). After I put it on the mobo and I start up the computer winxp splash screen appears and then it goes blank and there is a continuous short beeping sound. It keeps on going till I do a hard power off.

So I thought Windows is conflicting with earlier drivers and I did a clean XP install once again. The problem still exists.
I tried starting it in safe more and then it stops at loading AGP440.sys and again makes the same sound. So I went ahead and disabled AGP440.sys.

Now Xp boots up and I can do everything but I cannot use any characteristics of the video card. It uses the crappy VGA driver.

Please help me what should I do.

My system:
P4 3.2 GHZ Intel Processor
ASUS P4p800 SE Mobo

have you tried downloading the updated drivers for the card.

looking at the card its also OK

I'm horrible with computers so I don't really know anything about my computer except that it's a Dell Dimension E521 and has Vista Home Premium..

My problem is that when I start my computer, after the BIOS loads and where it would normally go to a log in screen it just stays a blank screen (no cursor or anything.) I tried loading it in safe mode and it just freezes at "crcdisk.sys" and I also tried using system restore which says "the disc OS (c:) has errors) and tries to repair it (to no avail.) I also tried the "Repair Your Computer" thing and left that running for about 12 hours and that didn't do anything and so I finally tried to reinstall Vista but I couldn't even do that (the disc loads and lets me click install but it freezes after that.)

I guess I should say when my problem started.. I clicked a youtube link and then some error came up saying (I don't remember but it did say something about C (not the disk but the code)) well after that error Firefox froze so I tried closing it (through the task manager) but it just said access denied so I tried to restart my computer but explorer was frozen so I had no choice but to use the power button after which my problem started..

Also in the system settings error log it says there's a POST error Keyboard error every time I try to restart my computer..

First of all, my computer is a computer that I built myself.

It is running on a Shuttle motherboard with an Athlon 3000+ processor

1024 mb of ram (512, and two 256 dual channeled sticks)

128 mb 9200 video card

20 gig hard drive win xp pro

floppy/dvd-rw cd-rw drive

I changed some BIOS settings, such as the FSB because I wanted it higher, it was only at 130 i believe? My motherboard can support up to 400. I set it to 200 if i remember, i also changed the setting from optimal to expert so it can allow me to make the FSB higher.

i then saved the changes and it tried to reset itself but failed and i got a blank screen.... and yes i am sure that my video card is in the apg slot and connected properly to my monitor.

now whenever i turn it on, i jusst get the blank screen

i need to know how to past this... it seems that my hard drive only makes a little noise within the first couple seconds that i turn it on

now when i turn it off and turn it on, the power supply works, led lights come on, fans work, etc...hmmm

please let me know how i can fix my computer, any ideas at all would be great

edit: i made sure everything was attached (eg. hard drive to motherboard)...still doesnt work

After using and shutting down my 2008 HP Pavillion computer perfectly normally it now will not start correctly and no input signal is being received by the monitor. There are no beeps from the bios to give any clues to the problem. The lights all come on when the power button is pressed, all the fans spin, disc drives will open and close (they also make a sound like they are trying to read a disc when the computer is switched on), USB ports work as it started charging my mp3 player the first time.
So far I've tried cleaning and re-seating everything which made no difference, I've tried running the computer on the bare minimum hardware and resetting the bios by replacing the battery and that's not helped. I tried starting it with the RAM removed and that caused the bios to beep so I don't think there is a problem with the motherboard (cpu heatsink also gets hot so cpu seems to be doing something).
The two things I think could be the problem are the power supply not giving the correct voltage or the graphics card dying (though the fan on it spins).
I've got a power supply tester on the way, does anyone else have any ideas what could be the issue?

Answer:Computer not starting - No beeps

You are on the right lines with the graphics card, do you have onboard graphics on the motherboard to try? Try a different graphics card if you have one.

Recently my computer (HP Pavilion Slimline s7700e PC, running Windows 7 Home Premium 32-bit) has been starting with two short beeps; lower in tone than previously... the first beep a little lower in tone than the second. The tone repeats itself one more time.

A couple of weeks ago the computer was making beeps that signaled a memory error, so we removed and replaced the memory modules and the computer booted up again, but with the new tones. It's been running fine since.

This morning I attempted to turn the computer on and nothing happened. I went and booted up my laptop to check my email, and while I was doing so the desktop computer suddenly came alive, with the same two lower-toned beeps has been the norm lately.

Does anyone have an any idea what might be going on with my computer?

Thanks in advance for any help. I'm afraid to turn it off again for fear it won't start. We have to go out today, and I hope it comes out of hibernation when we get back home.

im running a 466mhz
the hdd that stopped working is 20gb and the secondary one is 40gb.
also running 192 ram. i tried moving them around as well, no success...

Answer:no beeps only blank screen

Why bother at all, the machine is outdated and antiquainted to say the least, you would be hard pressed to run anything except Win98 or 95 on it, mind you you could run a Linux system on it.

However should you want to perservere then heres some advice

Mouse/Keyboard faults can cause a fail to POST

as can faulty Memory,CPU, addon card, faulty PSU.

Check the board for any shorts to earth,

Reset the BIOS by removing the battery or moving the Jumper.

Im sure thats enough for now let us know...

Used forums before with great success. Can't seem to find an existing thread addressing the problem I have now. I moved the computer and when I put it all back and turned it on there are 6 BEEPS that come from the CPU and nothing on the monitor. The monitor light comes on as green then goes to amber. Made no changes, wondering if something came loose in the move? Already looked inside, nothing looks apparently wrong.

Answer:6 beeps and a blank screen???

What brand is the PC, and if you know it, the type of BIOS? The beep code indicates a specific problem, but varies between brands.

Check that the RAM is seated correctly, and try one stick at a time if you have more than one.

It might be worth taking a look at this.

When I turn on my son's pc, I get 1 beep followed by 2 more beeps - and then nothing. The screen stays black so I can't even try to get into safemode or setup. I tried using a boot disk which didn't make a difference.

Also, the power button on the screen goes green for a second then blinks orange as if the pc isn't even turned on. My guess is a problem with the screen itself or the video card.

Any help or suggestions before I open the thing up or buy parts that I don't need are appreciated.

Hi Service Team,
My Dell inspiron N5010 was in sleep/hibernate by closing the lid which i usually do. Usually i would reopen the lid and press start which would resume the OS, but this time only the power button back light got lighted up and fan started working but nothing on screen, not even the dell logo. The screen is completely blank. Also system is instantly turning off on hitting power button, with in no second. Also, on hitting the power button power light stays, cpu light blinks once and goes off forever.
This also happened in my last boot, that time I thought battery is going dead and for that screen is hung so I immediately plugged in charger and it started working. But as it happened again today, I started looking into it and tried below options which did not help:
1. Tried to plug in charger and start.
2. fn+power button for tests
3. remove battery and try to start using charger
4. removing battery and hitting power button for 45 secs that was said to solve/reset hibernate issue if any, then replace battery and try starting up.
All of the above options have failed. Please suggest any other possible way to restart if its in my scope. Also, please tell the possible issue if it a lcd problem or hdd problem or any other problem and  how to resolve it.

OK no windows not even that BIOS stuff just blank screen and beeps roughly every 3 seconds

Heres the things i`ve tried so far...

Windows XP Home Edition CD wont work

Removing stuff give it a clean and slotting back in didn`t work

And heres a quick guide to whats happened so far...

I had this problem before but some times it would start up and say theres a nostkrnl.exe missing or corrupted, i tried eveything on the windows cd recovery console what people told me to do but it didn`t work
So eventually i thought what the hell and decided to reload windows... which was a complete success as it kinda went over the top of the old ones so i could find my old files and stuff

Unfortunately i turn it off and then on again the next day and i`m back to the beeping and blank screen... and this time theres no getting into safe mode or windows CD or anything

Please Help....

Answer:HELP!!! PC Blank screen at start up and 3 sec`s beeps

If it was a desktop computer it has an external monitor, most monitors
show a configuration screen when first powered on until it receives a signal.
Turn the monitor and computer both off for a few seconds, turn the monitor on
you should see the default config screen for it with possibly a logo of the manufacturer,
turn the computer on, does the monitor turn black or does the configuration screen still show?

Next thing is what make and model is the computer? If it is a dell desktop you should be able to locate
4 LED lights on the back near the USB ports labeled A/B/C/D when you power your computer on and hear the beeps
see if any of these lights turn on and take note of them also take note of the beep sequence (# of times and how many
times it occurs also how frequently).

Report back with this information.

I hooked it up, but I forgot to configure the jumpers to master/slave so my computer doesnt boot up. So I remove the new HDD and try to boot up, same thing. I tried booting without HDD CD/DVD drives etc. and still i cant get into the bios, the mobo LED is on and the fans spin. So i tried reseating the ram, that didnt work so I went out and bought some new ram and it didnt work either. I tried booting without ram and i get three beeps. I found the CD for my mobo and when i try to boot from that i get 2 short beeps, a pause, and then 5 short beeps. It turns out my dad told me that the HDD i tried to install was damaged and broken, but even with all the drives unplugged I cant get into bios, please help I really want to get back to Grim Fandango

I have a Dell Inspiron 8500 running XP Home Edition and (I think) service pak 3. When I start the computer I get a blank screen followed by 2 beeps. I have removed the regular battery and the reserve (the tiny battery), let sit for over an hour and tried to reboot, but, same thing happened.

My tech ability is limited, so, if there is no simple keystroke-type fix, I will need to take it to one of those national chain stores. Also, I am not very good at backing-up my work- am I screwed if this turns out to be a motherboard problem?

Answer:[SOLVED] 2 Beeps...Blank Screen

Have you installed/changed anything recently? Check your RAM and reseat it. If it still does not turn on properly try taking out the RAM modules, then putting them back in 1 at a time booting after each is placed in to see if the computer boots. If one module causes the computer to not boot properly, take that module out and continue with the rest until you've gone through all available RAM modules.

If you go through all the RAM modules and none have worked you may also want to try a different slot.

You know the light that light up on the keyboard when you boot up? See if they work. If they don't 99.9% it's the motherboard.

My Toshiba Satellite A200 has recently been giving me a blank screen with 3 beeps at every start up. I took it to a friend to get it fixed and they told me I had to take the battery out and put it back for it to start. It worked for him but not me. I called Tech. Support and they told me it was a hardware problem with memory or motherboard.

Anyone have the same problem and know what to do? I wouldnt mind checking the memory myself I just dont know where to start...

Paul, welcome to the forum, In the Hardware Maintainance manual (p. 58 of pdf), it states against the beep code under "FRU or action, in sequence" that the only action to take is to replace the "System board (IBM security chip).  Sorry, but it seems there is no other option.

I have encountered the "8 beeps on start up" problem.
I've tried pressing "D" plus the power button to do the screen test which shows several solid colors flashing and then goes black after about 10 seconds. The power button stays lit but there are no "working" sounds coming from the computer. The fan runs lightly.
I've tried hooking up to an external monitor and there is no signal or display.
I've tried taking apart and reconnecting cables inside computer with no success.
Any other ideas? Could it be a hardware problem that I can replace myself?
Thanks in advance.

It was unplugged for 3 days. i plugged my main computer bak in yesterday and it goes to a blank screen beeps and says the files are missing and to insert the windows xp disc!!! it reset the date etc in the comp it says october. says i have no files. i dont have the xp disc and im afraid of losing all my pics etc!!! i really need help to solve this problem!!! i hope its not too serious, read in other forums about a ram issue, but that was under a laptop issue and dont know if it wood also apply for a regular computer.

Answer:urgent!! Blank screen with beeps-not laptop

If the BIOS is not holding the date/time and other settings it means the battery on the motherboard is dead. This is generally a round watch type battery and is easily replaceable. The BIOS contains settings that tell it what type of Hard drive (HDD) that you have so it knows how to read it. Once you get the battery replaced you can then setup the BIOS with the date/time and HDD settings and that might be all that is needed.

Please help interpret the POST error code I am hearing:3 high-pitched beeps followed by 1 longer lower-pitched beep I have a Lenovo IdeaCentre K430 (Windows 7 Home Premium) that's been working flawlessly since purchased 3 years ago.I upgraded the gpu to an NVIDIA GTX 660 shortly after purchase and have had zero problems with it. Everything else has been stock. I needed to test components from a different computer. I swapped the stock i7-3770K cpu out with an i7-3770 (no K on the end of the cpu name). Didn't change anything else. When I tried to boot the computer, the chassis, cpu, and gpu fans turned on and I heard the 4 beeps error code (3 shorter followed by one longer), but screen was blank. Thinking that maybe the cpu I was testing might be faulty, I put the original cpu back in.Same error code beeps and still a blank screen. I pulled the motherboard battery -- no change. Everything else is left as it was before, and this was a working system. Could this have something to do with secure boot rejecting either the gpu, which isn't the original, or the change to a "foreign" cpu? Or is there something in the BIOS/UEFI settings that have to be reset? I can't tell how I would do it since I'm not getting any video output. What does that specific error code signify? (Correction:  The stock cpu is a 3770. The one I was testing is a 3770K.)

Hi,Can someone help to suggest a sulution to fix the blank screen problem? Re-seating of memory sticks did not fix it.Problem description:Four beeps and blank screen after pressing power on button. The four beeps are short and faint. They are quieter than the noise from DVD drive. The beeps are much weaker than those beeps when the memory sticks are removed. There are only one group of four beeps, so it is not security chip problem which is associated with 4 cycles of 4 beeps.Following LEDs stay ON:"Power on","Battery Status","AC Power status" and"DVD status".Following LEDs were flashed and then OFF:"Num lock',"Caps lock","Drive in use" and"DVD drive LED".FAN and DVD were spin.System:Thinkpad T500 2242-CTO, CPU P8600, 2x1G memory, onboard video.

Hi guys,

I installed an express card yesterday and it's caused all sorts of havoc (IRQ conflicts, hangs etc).

I went to restart this morning and it's now just giving me 2 beeps and nothing on screen. I've looked up the phoenix bios bleep codes but this one aint listed. Any ideas if I can do a BIOS reset with a jumper?

Obviously I've tried removing the express card!

Any help would be fantastic

Answer:2 Beeps on Startup and blank screen - Satellite P300-19P

Hi buddy,

BIOS reset can only be done from an authorized service provider but I don?t think the BIOS is the problem because such beep codes mean that a hardware malfunction was detected?

What you can do is removing the battery and AC adapter for one hour and then connect both again. Does your notebook start again?

If not it?s serious hardware malfunction and you should contact a notebook technician for help.

Hi - a friend's computer has not been used for ages. He has been given a digital camera and wants to use the comp again..! However, the screen is totally blank (I have tried 3 monitors using different cables etc) it says no connection.Could it be the on-board video card or maybe the battery is dead as it has not been plugged in for months. Also can I put in a video card and get rid of the onboard wiring? Thanks in advance for anyone's help!

Answer:blank screen - no beeps - poss cmos battery?

The beeps you refer to is the system performing a POST test (Power On Self Test). Since you are not getting this I would check the PC itself is getting power i.e LEDs and fans operating, if not then either the PC power cable is faulty or the Power Supply has failed.

I do have a R50 1830-6FU. Now it doesn´t boot, it gives the beep code long-short-short.As far as I could find out that it seems to be the graphic chip. The question is: can I replace it by my self or do I have to send it to Lenovo? How much will it cost roughly? The R50 is now about 4 years old, it used to be my former company PC (now I´ve got a T61). Thanks! Losi

Answer:R50 beeps 1 long and 2 shorts with a blank screen when booting

Hi losi,Welcome to the forum! The proceeding manual says the culprit can be either one of following:- 1. System board. 2. LCD assembly. 3. DIMM. suggest replacing the RAM first, if that doesn't solve the problem then try system board. Lenovo will charge a lot more than what the actual R50 costs so it's better to buy the board yourself and replace it with the help of above manual. On eBay, they go for around $100:- it helps.

Hello Everyone,

Recently my M2N-E all of a sudden stopped POSTing and gave me a blank screen. I used it everyday to do light computing and school work. My computer was on when a power outage caused by someone using an electric (power) saw. I turned the computer back on a few hours after the power went back on and everything seems to work fine as usual. I left it running on the internet while making a quick trip to school to turn in some paperwork. When I returned, the computer just hangs there. The LED on the USB mouse wasn't on either. So I pressed the reset button to restart the computer, but it won't POST, just a blank screen. When I press the power button to turn it on, the CPU and case fans spin but computer just hangs there and the red HDD LED lights up without blinking.

I've been using this computer since February 2009 when I received this board as an RMA and it worked 100% until now.

This is what I've tried:

Power on with one RAM and video card
Take the motherboard out of the case and powering it on a cardboard box (w/ CPU, one stick of ram, and VGA card of course)
Borrowed a friend's 500w PSU from his gaming rig to try on my system, but still no go

Every computer part was tested and confirmed to be working on my friend's computer except for the motherboard and CPU because he has Intel

Please help me troubleshoot this problem as I really need this computer for school.

Hey,I have an HP Pavilion a610n which is 6 years old. It has windows xp and the rest of the specs can be found here.9 out of 10 times on start up it just beeps rapid fire continuously and doesn't stop until I unplug it. I've let it go for over a minute. Both fans inside turn on so I'm not sure if its a cooling issue. My first guess was the ram. I had extra ram sitting around and threw that in, but it still made the same noise. I also took out the ram and started it and the computer only beeped once, which is what I expected, so I'm assuming the ram is not the problem. The times that it does start, it works fine. No slow-downs or anything.I've searched around for a while (google and here) and can't find any answers. Thanks in advance!Gleb

Hi folks,
A friend has given me a laptop to try and fix. It's a Toshiba Satellite 3000-X11.
Sometimes it works fine. Starts up like normal.
Sometimes, fairly randomly, it will not start. In this instance nothing will come up on the screen at powerup. The fan will kick in. The screen is black and there are four beeps. About 1 per second. It then sits there. On, but half dead. Can hear fan from time to time.
I've read messages on the net that suggest this is a hardware failure of some kind. What I'd like to know is if there is any easy way to know what hardware has failed. Nearly all the messages I read talked about three beeps. This is four.

Makes no diff if I am running it from AC or battery.

I have no idea what makes it start working again.

I suspect (just a suspicion) that it tends to stop working after it has been moved around (i.e. picked up and moved to another desk etc.).

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Also, is there a Toshiba diagnostic tool I can download and run that will test the machine out?

Answer:Satellite 3000-X11: Four beeps at start-up, blank screen

Hi buddy,

if the machine really behaves like you described then the machine has an serious hardware failure. I had the same machine a few years ago with
the same problem.
So I brought my machine to a service partner and they exchanged some "PCB?s" like they said.
These PCB?s are e.g. the mainboard or the graphics card.

If the machine you have is out of warranty, then you won?t have big chances to fix it on your own due to faulty core components.

Hello, I have a HP 840 G3 laptop with a blank screen. Can't access BIOS or other recovery menu. After I press the power button there is one (1) short led and SOMETIMES an extra long led, but not beeps at all, followed by restart every 30 second. I tried to run it without Ram and I got 3 long led + beeps followed by 2 short led + beeps, so the warning system is functional. I tried to create a bios recovery usb and start the laptop with the Win button + B combination, but nothing appears on the screen. Moreover, the cpu fan start to run on maximum speed and there is no restart at all. It just stay on full fan speed and blank screen. Hard reset, by pressing the power button for 15 seconds, doesn't work either. PS: the screen is functional because there is some background light, but there is no text.  Thank you in advance.

I have a 3 year old XPS 13 (L321X) ultrabook that has a black/blank screen.  I hooked up the laptop to an external monitor via hdmi and it works fine. So it's the laptop screen that seems to be the problem.  I went through all the suggested troubleshooting from basic to advance. Holding the 'D' at start up, I hear 3 beeps.  If I can see the display on an external monitor, is it still a System board issue? Unfortunately, my warranty expired years ago, so trying to fix this the cheapest means possible.  Any help would be appreciated.

Answer:Dell XPS blank/black screen issue- diagnosis gives 3 beeps

Thank you for writing to us!
This could be an issue with the LCD or the LCD cable.Ideally it should not be the motherboard as the external monitor works, however we cant rule it out.
Kindly private message the service tag and email address so that we can check and help you further.

Hello, Just received my k450e with onboard HD 4600 graphics.  Put in an HD 7570 graphics card (max watts = 60). 2 beeps, blank screen. Bios is Auto for video. 1) Is it the lower power supply that came with the computer = 280 Watts causing no video?2) Will the mother board (bios) take a 980 gtx if I upgrade the power supply. to appropriate specs? Lenovo, please confirm both. Answer:New K450e - Installed Graphics Card, 2 beeps, Blank screen

hi rutenguten,
Welcome to the Lenovo Forums.
Regarding your questions:
1. As per this chipset table, the HD 7570 consumes around 10-11W so the 280W PSU should be sufficient to power up this card. Using the onboard HD 4600 graphics, can you try and boot into the BIOS and set the following settings (if applicable):
Security Tab:
Secure Boot = Disabled
Startup / Boot Tab:
CSM = Enabled
Boot Mode = Legacy or Legacy First
When finished, press F10 to Save and Exit and observe if you can now boot from the HD 7570 graphics card. If this works, the UEFI firnware is likely not compatible with the HD 7570 GPU and requires the BIOS to be set to legacy mode.
Relevant article:
After- market graphic card installed on K430 and system cannot boot
2. I haven't seen anyone use a GTX 980 on their K450e but RogerSC posted in this thread that his K450e came with a GTX 760 so a GTX 980 should be possible coupled with the right PSU.

Yesterday evening, my Z50 had been working normally. I put it on stanby over night, but it was running this morning (with the lid closed). I have observed this behavior on multiple occasions, so I wasn't worried. It seems that Windows sometimes wakes laptops in standby to update overnight. In any case, opening the lid, no image appeared. I closed the lid, computer did not go into standby. So I shut it down and rebooted it by prolongued pressure on the power button. Screen remained blank. Did this a few times, no change. External Monitor is not getting HDMI signal at any stage. Keyboard is unresponsive (caps-lock and num-lock LEDS do not toggle). In fact the only way I can even tell it's running is because the power led is lit and the fan is working. Oh, and it gives a single sharp beep when I plug the power in or out (both ways produce the same beep). That's the only reaction I could get from it. Things I tried, all without any effect whatsoever:Running only on PSU without battery. Running on different PSU without battery.Running on battery without PSU.Unplugging PSU, removing battery, holding power button pressed for a minute, putting battery back in, booting.Booting using the NOVO button. Can't see any way for the usual household remedies like system restore or BIOS reset, as for all I can tell the fan is the only thing even running in there.Currently just leaving it running to drain the battery, but I don't really see what that could accomplish. Hi everyone, When I wake up my Thinkpad T440s from sleep by openning the lid, there are beeps and nothing else happens. The screen is all black but it looks pretty obvious something is going on behind the scenes (I hear the subtle noise when opening the lid). After a few minutes, there is a sound and then it is automatically shut down. If I don't wait and close the lid, then I hear the final sound  after 1-2 minutes (which is a bit louder than the beeps at the beginning) and it is automatically shut down.  This sympton began to occur just after I installed the latest BIOS a few days ago. After the BIOS, I also installed the latest Thinkpad System Update Version 5.07.0013, but somehow for the first time it doesn't work properly (always stops in the middle of checking for updates with the error message "An error occured while downloading packages" on the screen, so this system update utility is entirely useless now). My OS is Windows 10 64-bit upgraded from Windows 8.1. I bought this new Thinkpad for several months now. Other than these, there are no other problems that I know of. Can you please help? I'm not really good at the technical things relating to the computer, so please give detailed instructions if possible.  Thank you so much

Any ideas on a solution?

Answer:Dell Mini Inspiron 1018: Powers On - Blank Screen - No Beeps

Sounds like a display issue, such as a bad LCD or connector.
Try plugging it into a monitor to rule out the possibility of a bad video card.

Was using brand new lap top with universal power cord (dogs had chewed the original).  computer was working fine, was shut down fine last use (with universal power cord being used) Next time tried to boot up without power cord- nothing, with power cord still nothing. screen blank, no beeps. sent back to manufacturer, but was told that universal plug is at fault and therefore warranty does not apply. In researching, it looks like POST failure due to ? power supply cord.  What can I do to correct this? Did this cause something to burn out? If so- what?  Thanks

Answer:laptop won't boot up, screen blank, no clicks, beeps or blinking cursor

It seems that, according the manufacturer, voided the warranty by using a different power cord than what they want.     Unfortunately for you if that cord was indeed the problem and it burnt out the motherboard then unless you can find some sympathetic soul to help you it the you are out of luck.   Alan <><

Any smart guys out there who know what is wrong with my PC?

I was having a weird problem with my PC where the monitor would shutdown while playing games such as Fifa, only the monitor would shutdown everything else would continue to run. There was lots of different suggestions on the internet about what was wrong. One suggested to go into BIOS and lower the performance of my GFX card. So I went in BIOS and changed two things. I changed a setting PCIE-PCI to PCI-PCIE and changed a setting below that about mhz from Auto to 120mhz.

Now my PC won't load at all. It switches on and makes noises like the hardware is running, but no beeps and nothing on the screen. Without BIOS loading I can't change anything back. There was mention of a jumper, placing a small metal climp on motherboard jumper to short circuit and restore to default BIO settings, but don't think that worked.

Any ideas or if you have encountered similar problems please tell me, it would be greatly appreciated :)

Answer:Will not Load BIOS, no beeps, nothing on screen...

Hey have you tried removing your video card and using an onboard video? Maybe try a new monitor? Your video card might be going bad. I would first take the video card out of the question first, since thats where the problem may be laying.

i have a 2.8 dual core, intel 945 GNTL motherboard 512x2 ram
i did something with bios the other day and now system is only giving continous beeps but no display not even i can reach bios.

is there any way i can reset the setting of bios.

i tried taking the battery out of mother board but that didnt work some one told me there is a jumper setting that could be helpful to reset.

can some one guide me with that process

Answer:Continous beeps but no bios screen

There is trouble here in reiver city... You apparently have a major hardware problem... memory, cpu, video graphics card... But most motherboard manufactures post what all their beep codes mean... they are not the same from one manufacturer to another. But if you go to the manufacturer's web site, and roam around a bit, you should find out what the motherboard thinks the problem is.
Another way is to go back to basics... remove or disable everything except the power supply, one memory module, and video connection, then boot to a floppy disk which has MS DOS or Windows 98 boot on it. If it works, add a piece. If not, change the memory module and try again... keep trying basic hook ups... then if nothing, call tech support of the manufacturer.

I have an HP G72 laptop. A few days ago I was thinking about installingubuntu. I booted from the LiveUSB. For some reason or another, I'm claiming temporary insanity, when the 'Try Ubuntu' screen came up, Ipressed the power button on the latop instead of going through the restart option. Now the laptop will not boot from the hard drive. It shows no BIOS or anything, just a black screen. The fan is running, the wifi light is lit, the number lock is lit but the screen is totally blank. I connected an external monitor and it doesn't show anything either. However, if I put the Ubuntu Live USB in, the system will boot from it and the external monitor will show Ubuntu.Any help or insight will be greatly appreciated.

Answer:Black screen, No BIOS, No beeps......

I resolved the issue.  Not sure how but I tore the system down to the base components and put them back together and it booted up just fine into Windows.

If your motherboard has integrated graphics, try removing your graphics card and hooking your monitor up to that. Your computer should work it's just your settings stopped it from accessing your graphics card. If you get your computer to work switch your BIOS back then reinstall your graphics card.

I wondered whether someone could help. My dell 1545 laptop is refusing to start up, saying windows 7 has a problem, the screen is blank. Have tried everything booting up in different modes. It has happened before and the laptop seemed to just retify it on it's own. The only other problem with it at the moment is the battery is dead so am using the mains to power the computer - have ordered a new battery. It runs on 64 bit OS.

The problem started a few days ago where I start up my laptop and it will do one of two things, either come up with a black screen with nothing on it (sometimes just the cursor) or stay on the 'Welcome' screen for ages pretending it's loading.

It gets past the booting screens, just the Windows part of things is where it has trouble, i've had a Blue Screen come up once and i've added the error message below. I've also attached the .dmp file that it mentions in the message if anybody could look at this.

Im using 32 bit Windows Seven and have just added an extra gig of ram, unsure if this is anything to do with it. When I removed this extra RAM the problem persisted.

I would really appreciate it if anybody could help me out as it's getting frustrating.

Thanks a lot, Chris

Answer:Blank screen when starting windows

Chris, it is very possible the RAM module is bad, and messing something up, though it is interesting it persisted after removal.

Lets try running MemTest with each RAM module:

Also, hit start and go to command prompt (right click, run as admin) and type: Check your RAM

sfc /scannow

God.. I hate to return to this forum (sorry nothing personal =P, but I don't want to have any problems with my laptop ) Anyways when I start up my laptop this morning. The screen was blank/black as it didn't turn on, but it did. I could open the dvd drive. I tried running my laptop without my battery so just only the adapter, still same thing but the weirdest thing was. It could randomly turn on by itself when I close my laptop and num lock and caps lock was also on.

Answer:blank screen when starting up laptop

The following steps will rest your hardware/software connections through the BIOS and clear the temporary memory of any corruption.Shut down and turn off the computer.
Unplug the computer from the wall or surge protector (then remove the battery if it is a laptop).
"Remove the computer from any port replicator or docking station, disconnect
cables to printers or devices such as external monitors, USB memory sticks or SD cards, headset or external speakers, mouse or auxiliary keyboard, turn off WIFI and Bluetooth wireless devices." (Use Hard Reset to Resolve Hardware and Software Issues HP Pavilion dv5000 Notebook PC series - HP Customer Care (United States - English))
Hold down the power button for 30 seconds. This closes the circuit and ensures all
power from components is drained to clear the software connections between the BIOS
and hardware and clear any corruption in the temporary memory.
(If it is a laptop, plug the battery back into the laptop and then) Plug the computer back into the wall. Do not reconnect any unnecessary peripherals; monitor, keyboard,
and mouse should suffice and be the only peripherals reconnected.
Turn it on to reinitialize the software connections between the BIOS and hardware

Computer is running and the starting windows logo comes up but then screen goes black on my toshiba p770

Answer:Screen goes blank after starting windows

Boot to safe mode. If the screen works normally (doesn't turn black) in safe mode then is a corrupt driver for your video card (safe mode loads the generic windows driver not the one for your specific card). Go into the device manager under display adapters and right click your display adapter and click uninstall. Now reboot normally. Windows will detect the display adapter that is install and reinstall the driver for the device. It may ask you to reboot again. Upon this reboot if the problem persist then the driver is completely corrupted. You will need to go online and download the most up to date drive for your device and install that. You can go online if you boot safe mode with networking.Regards,John Ryan | Tech Support

I've been running windows vista for 3-4 weeks now but now it has gone terribly wrong

When I turn on my computer I get a blank, black screen

I've turned my computer off many times by holding the power button down to make the beginning menu give me an option of whether I want to run windows in safe mode or normally when I turn the computer back on

I have chosen all of the different modes of booting windows (like safe mode) but after I select to start windows I just get shown a blank screen

I know there is not a fault with my vga cable that is connecting my pc to my tv nor my graphics card because I can see the options at the beginning menu and can also see the vista 'loading bar' at the bottom of the screen when I initially turn my pc on.

My LCD screen that is hooked up to my computer occasionally shows a blank screen when my wireless keyboard doesn't get used for a while or doesn't work but this cannot be the problem because the keyboard works when I select the option for trying to start windows.

My hard drive is the primary device on which to boot from and I have no idea if windows does start properly and I just cannot see the interface

The beginning menu that I talk about, I can only use a keyboard and it has the colour scheme of windows command prompt

Forgive me if I do not use the proper terms but I have not encountered a problem like this before

I seem to have a odd issue with my laptop. Sometimes when i boot into windows there would be a blank screen with a mouse cursor after the starting windows screen. I would have to wait for approximately 5 minutes for it to show up my logon screen. I've been having this issue since the start of the year and have attempted to solve it but they have been unsuccessful. Things i've tried:Reformat Windows (Did it 4 times)Purchasing a SSDReduced the start-up items(barely any)Also i made a topic awhile back but it was never really solved.

Answer:Blank Screen after starting windows

You can try to analyse which program/system activity is causing the boot so slowly with the program Soluto.

// Edit:

I'm thinking/suspecting that something that comes with your Windows7 installation (the manufacturing installation) or a program like an AV you installed all the times you have reformatted it.

After running World of warcraft, and after a few seconds (maybe 5-30), the screen goes blank and the monitor acts like its not getting a signal. My computer is still running but won't react to any buttons I press (at least not on the screen). I think it may be my graphics card overheating. I haven't had this problem before, but this morning my computer was making a loud sound like a fan was clogged so I blew a bunch of dust out of my case.
I have a 6600 GT by the way, and it has been working for quite a long time.

Hi guys its me again, the computer was running perfectly well since I changed my VGA and PSU. Yesterday after playing Red Faction Guerrilla I switched off my computer and this morning turned on but somehow the computer got power but does not load the bios. The speakers are working and there is no beeps of any kind. I also connected my Corsair PSU onto a PSU Tester and shows as normal. I took the Mobo battery and the jumper out to clear up the CMOS and also tried changing the jumper to clear it up. Both hard drives have been connected to my external case and hooked up on my Laptop and no viruses were found. I also tried to unplug everything from my Mobo and connecting one by one to double check if would work. I tried all sets of connections to the motherboard and even only the power on it would not work. The computer has power because I see VGA light flashing when starts and all fans running with power. My case led lights are on but the hard drive is always off. I have a suspicious could be my Mobo or CPU but before rushing to conclusions I need to know to get a replacement under its warranty. I really appreciate for your help once again. Thanks!!!

Answer:Computer on no Bios no Beeps

As you have tested drives and PSU then either Mobo CPU or memory as does not attempt to access HDD this rules out graphics card.I would be tempted to remove and refit memory one stick at a time and retry to bot before condemning Mobo or CPU.

please help

Answer:No bios screen, No beeps, No keyboard lights

Lo mate Sorry about your problem. I can relate the same thing happend to me about 2 weeks back! its a bummer.
Anway to cut a long story short I finally gave in and took it in to a local shop they also couldnt find anything wrong with it.
If I were you I would send it back to the people who you purchased it off and see what they say I did that and it tured out to be a faulty motherboard they were happy to send a replacement. It still didnt work with the new one! So I decided to buy a brand new CPU with a higher FSB not using my old one. My old CPU wasnt comptible even though my board was suppoed to take it.

Double check things and tell the supplier.

good luck hope it works out for ya mate.

Hi, My working 410s laptop is not starting up. The power button turns green when i press it but nothing else happens, it stays like this forever. No POST message, no BIOS screen ... nothing. The power button stays green however. I googled about it, and removed the battery and 'discharged the static' by pressing power button for 30 seconds. After that when i press the power button, it turns off after a couple of seconds. I think that is the right behaviour? But when I plug in the AC power cable, the original problem returns, the power button stays on but the screen is black and no other actiivty seems to be happening in the laptop. Please help.

Answer:T410s not starting up, the screen remains blank

Hi Xkcdcode,
Welcome to Lenovo Community!
As per the query we understood that you are facing issue with No POST on your ThinkPad T410s.

Is there any beep sound when you switch on the system?
Have you checked removing system memory & CMOS battery once?
Check connecting external monitor once is there any output from that.

Hope this helps!
Best regards,
Hemanth Kumar

Answer:Blank screen starting Satellite P series

Huh on this virtual way it is not easy to say what is wrong there.
Since when have you noticed this?

Have you installed some updates or anything that can be responsible for this?
When you say screen is black does it means that screen is black but background light works or the screen is completely black like when notebook is OFF?

Hi everyone - first time poster here!

Today I turned on my Toshiba G30 Qosmio like I normally do, except this time, the screen stayed blank. Normally, the Qosmio splash screen appears with the Qosmio music, but only the Qosmio music came through... no screen image! The computer continued to boot up properly, but nothing was being displayed.

I panicked, and thought I'd need to buy a new computer...

While I was on the phone with a friend doing tech support, I pressed the "TV Out" button (found in the upper top right hand corner). Voila - the screen turned on, but all of my icons were re-arranged.

I've tried reinstalling the display driver, but it still is happening whenever I reboot. The problem does not happen when putting the computer to sleep and staring back up again.

Any help would be extremely appreciated!

Try resetting the BIOS to its default settings, and/or update the BIOS to the latest version.

Where to begin.. my son (13) uses a pc at school because he is dyslexic. The pc is a compaq Evo N610c. It is never hooked up to the internet. The problem is when he started the pc he couldnt remember his password when it came to user accounts.. windows xp proffesional was installed at that time. He thought he would fix it and downloaded Windows Xp home edition in safe mode and now when he turns the pc on.. it says windows initializing and then goes to a blank screen with vertical lines... it does nothing and i have no idea how to fix it.. any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Answer:Windows XP not starting..only brings up a blank screen

You son obviously knows a thng or 2 about computers, and if he managed to install a differnt version of windows over the old one, then something has gone wrong. My advice would be start again from the begining. Make sure the computer is happy, no hardware issues, then insert the XPHome disk and boot the machine. Follow the prompts to *install* windows, and tell it to do this on the c drive but leave the existing filesystem alone. This operation is not without risks and as always if you important data you should have it backed up.

Feel free to post back with more specific questions. its a bit hard to say more at this stage.

First things first. I have a HP a410e, Windows XP home edition, AMD Athelon 3000+ processer, and Direct X 9 installed. I ran my Direct X tests and they seem to work fine--no problems.

Now on to the post:

I have the game Scrabble by Infograms. It works with Windows XP. In the past, this game has worked. Recently I tried to play it, so I clicked on it under the start-programs tab and it went to a completly blank, black screen. The only thing to be seen was the cursor around the edges. The only way I could shut down the game was to manually shut down the computer. I couldn't see the screen to even use ctrl/alt/delete.

Confused, I ran Spybot, AdAware, and Window Washer and uninstalled the game. Then I rebooted again and reinstalled. It registered me fine, but I don't remember InstallShield comming up. But, I went to play the game again and the same thing happened. I looked in programs and there it was--installed.

Does anyone know why this happened?

I have a HP netbook running Windows 7 Starter edition that I only had for about 2 months anyways this morning I started it up and got the HP logo screen briefly and then a black screen with a white cursor in the top left hand corner. I can get to the BIOS menu and I have tried restoring to default but that didn't do anything. I then unplugged ac adapter and battery and help power button down for a min. and then put battery and ac adapter back in and started it. No fix. Do you have any other solutions. Please help my wife needs this for school tomorrow. Thanks.

Answer:starting up to blank screen with white cursor

Black screen with a white cursor in the upper left hand corner, usually means that it is not finding the OS to start. This could be because the Hard drive has gone bad, or the OS has been corrupted. Does the HP Netbook have a Factory Restore Option left?
