MFT Error, Important Data and no cure!

Question: MFT Error, Important Data and no cure!

I no there's not much anyone can do about this problem, but how can i copy my healthy version of my 'MFT Mirror' and repair the original with the Mirror? Are there any programs that will do just that, not data recovery? chkdsk keeps saying it can't read the volume status or version, so thats no good.

Luckily the hard drive concerned doesn't have an OS on it, and is external USB (USB to IDE).

Can anyone help? I've been crawling the whole internet looking for a cure...

Preferred Solution: MFT Error, Important Data and no cure!

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

If I remember correctly, Norton Disk Doctor would do that ( I'll have to dig mine out to check)...

A folder containing important data recently got deleted and the recycling bin is emptied .,.,.Is there anyway at all I can get that folder back??
Thank You

Answer:important data gone

Recovering deleted items may or may not be successful since the drive space the items were using becomes available for use again after the deletion. There are third party programs that do work to recover items of importance if they are there and here is one I refer to people to try. The product is free to try through a download and of course you will have to pay for it if you want to keep it beyond its trial period.

The product has been successful for many in the past so good luck and let us know the outcome.

Just want to know what would you do if you lose your important data. For example, delete your cherished photos by accident; lose your doc files which contain your weeks' hard work due to formatted or damaged hard drive. Of course, I hope everyone here never have such bad luck. Just a poll. BTW, do remember backup your data regularly.

A. Feel sad, but do nothing.
B. Tell a friend about your bad luck. Then you feel better
C. Ask someone who is good at computer for help.
D. Go to an IT forum to post your problem, like techguy
E. Search Internet to find similar situation & solution
F. Go to manual data recovery service center.

You may have other answers.

Question: Error cause/cure

Am on Vista Ultimate IE7 & 8, and using WINUtilities. When wanted to access TASK SCHEDULER up comes "...error attempting task account information 0x8007052e".

Investigation shows that error means login failure; unknown user; unknown user
name or bad PW; credentials invalid.

A lot of words to say the same thing, only I have butone ID/PW for this program and no idea why this error arose. Nor is there any info as to remedy.
Had no difficulty logging on to the program in the first place.

Will appreciate help from you more knowledgable colleagues. Thank you.

I have lost very important data after doing a re-install of win xp pro serv pack 2 (new legit copy) over an unverified xp pro serv pack 2.
First I tried a repair with the new product key, got to the welcome screen and was asked to log in to my account after doing that it said "you are already logged in, then a sreen came on saying register my copy of windows
YES/NO on yes or no it logged off and went back to the log on screen, basicaly round in circles, then a friend advised to do a complete re-install over my origional O/S leaving files & folders intact, I did but when it came to the drive/directory to install the default was c:/windows highlited and my friend said to alter it to WINNT. Since then every application wont run asking to re-install applications files are missing, drivers are missing and my cd-drive wont open. Saved registration keys are in Incredimail which I cannot find, all my contacts are missing.
Please help I feel as if my right arm has been cut off.
I dont Know how much has been lost yet as I cant get into any applications.
Thanks for reading hope, you can help.

Dell Dimension 3000, 768 mb ram, cd RW, Nvida graphics with 128 mb on board ram (3 years old).

Answer:lost important data after Re-install xp pro

I don't want to say your friend gave you bad advice, but reinstalling Windows that way causes problems as you are now finding out. Basically, I believe you are probably going to have to reinstall all your applications and drivers. You may be able to reinstall many of the drivers by pointing the wizard to c:\windows\system32 but you are probably better off just using your Dell Resource CD if you still have it.

You can open Outlook just fine still?

My PC as of late has been running awful. When I have a game running it'll run fine, however it's navigating the PC when say in a browser, or just copying files, or anything really outside running a game that is running horrible. I ran malwarebytes and did a scan and corrected, same with Housecall, was gonna do a CCleaner but I'm at the point where I'm fed up and just want it running smoothly. When I'm in firefox if I do something as simple as ctrl D to bookmark a page everything freezes. So I'm ready for a fresh start.

I'm going to find my Windows 7 disc after work and reformat. However I would like to backup important info. If I clone hdd to hdd it'll save everything and make the reformat pointless as far as I know. So that's not an option. I know how to copy/paste my picture files. That's easy.

How would I go about saving my steam game files so that my in game progress is erased? I have a 160gb internal hdd installed, I'm using a 1tb internal for os and everything. So I can use the 160. I also have an external 160gb hdd I can use.

I started to clone the hdd and quickly realized that's not my course of action. So after backing up my browser bookmarks, and pictures, how do I save all my steam game files? Don't think i"m worried about losing any other data besides that.

I recently re-formatted my PC and everything that I wanted to keep which wasn't a lot a burned onto a single DVD. Even though it wasn't a lot it was quite important.

The software told me the data had burned correctly and everything was hunky dory but I stupidly didn't check to make sure.

Now I've re-formatted my PC I go into my computer and select the drive and one folder is in there but no sub-folders with my files. If i right click on the Drive in My computer it says it's full with 3.8GB of stuff yet when I right click on the single folder in there it says no folders or files in there.

I don't know why it's doing this but it's really frustrating as some treasured photo's are on there and important work files

If anyone can help I'd really appreciate it

Thank You

I have a problem with my Satellite 1100 laptop. The windows OS has somehow become corrupted and now won't start up. I have tried the usual 'use last good config' and start in 'safe mode' but neither of these work.

Is there a way using the product recovery CD to fix this without losing important documents and photos?

Any help appreciated.

Answer:Can I fix OS using recovery CD without loosing important data?

Using delivered recovery CD you can install OS again. There is no option for any kind of ?OS repair?. I do not know how is your HDD configured but if you have 2 partitions and all your important data are saved on the second one you can install OS on the first partition using ?Expert mode?.

At the moment you can try to obtain Microsoft installations CD and try to repair preinstalled OS.

How important is it when I burn a DVD, that I select data verification? I thought the hardware already does that to some degree. Is this just peace of mind then, or is there real merit in validating what you think you just burned? It adds about 50% to the time it takes to burn the DVD, so it's not trivial.

Hello good people,

Please help me rescue data from a CD-RW that WinXPProSP2 cannot access.

On one CD-RW it reports being unable to copy data due to CRC error.
On second one, it cannot read disc at all, reports corrupted or incompatible disc.

There is no obvious physical damage on the discs.

Is there a proven software that can access data on CD and bypass this?

Alternatively, is there a program that can clone an image from such a CD (I'd like to send them to professional data recovery service, but I'd like to back them up first).

Already attempted:
Through cleaning of the discs
Trying in other computers
Several free/demo recovery programs from the web, all working under WinXP

Many thanks

This is a follow up question from my last successfully answered question.
My Tecra 60GB HDD has stopped working and I would like to retrieve a few days of emails etc if possible.
The Tecra defaults to the Safe Mode options when started and returns via a BSOD no matter which safe mode option is taken.

I have:
checked in BIOS - it is seen as there.
ran SEATOOLs for Dos and it says there is a fault on the short and long tests
connected the HDD via an enclosure and USB to my other PC and eventually it say that there is an In/OUT error.
Ran CHKDSK via my XP CD and after 26% it says there are one or more unrecoverable errors.

Also I have tried an old HDD which works normally in the Tecra.

Any help would be appreciated

Answer:Tecra HDD crash - how to retrieve some important data?

>connected the HDD via an enclosure and USB to my other PC and eventually it say that there is an In/OUT error.

Does this mean that you are not able to get access to the HDD even using an external USB case?
It looks like the HDD is corrupt and in most cases the data could not be recovered on usual way.
Of course there are different Data recovery services but they charge between ?500 and ?1000 to attempt to salvage data from either logical or mechanical disasters.

There are also different tools which could be helpful like RecoverMyFiles from GetData, Ontrack EasyRecovery DataRecovery or Prosoft's Data Rescue II but you have to pay for all these professional applications?

Here is also a nice youtube video:

Maybe it will work for you!

I'm not sure this is the right forum to post this, if not let me know.

The Problem: I accidentally deleted some important data from a hard drive. I desperately want to rescue at least some of it. It is a folder containing a large number of digital photos.

This is what I've done:
1. accidentally deleted files
2. deleted the three partitions that were on the drive and made the drive into one partition
3. formatted the drive using Windows Disk Management tool in Administrative Tools (Windows XP). I used the "Quick Format" option rather than the "Full Format". The file system of the drive (also before formatting) is: NTFS
4. Currently there is new data on the drive. I'm using it as a backup drive now.

This all happened a few days ago. Only now I have realized the goof up.

Please, if there is any way you know of that I might best be able to salvage any of the lost data, I'd REALLY appreciate it.

Evening all!

I've recently become tired of having all my videos, music, software installers, and other such things that are used by several PCs in the house scattered all over those PCs, taking up disk space and ending up being difficult to find when I need them.

What I want to do, is take an old PC I'm not using (the less money I spend the better), and set it up to host all of this stuff on a network drive.

Now I've done a little looking around on the net, and I've come across a little something called RAID. I like the idea of having some sort of failsafe should one of the drives die, because that PC will basically be the only copy of many things I've spent a few years accumulating lol. I've also read the Techguy "Guide for installing and configuring Raid" But there's still plenty of questions, and I'll never get a certain answer until I actually ask someone. Now, let's see....

I'll be using 4x 500GB drives in this system (follow link for Everest report).

Should I even look at RAID, or should I just try to keep the files on the first 1TB backed up nicely on the second 1TB? Of course, I would be tempted to use the "extra space", and keeping a constant backup would probably become annoying...

What's the best RAID level for me? From what I can tell, RAID-1 basically takes for example two drives, and uses one as a copy of the other, so that if something/one of the drives is lost, the data is not. ... Read more

I have a usb jump drive that I was using in fixing a computer. I copied very important data to the drive and then went on to reformat and install windows.

In the process of setting up the partitions of the hard drive I inadvertently deleted the partition on my jump drive.

I need to get this databack. The only program that seems to work is "Data Recovery Wizard" Unfortunatly it costs 70 dollars to save the files it recovers. I dont have this kind of money.

I need this data if it is at all possible to recover I would like to get it right away. ASAP

This is the case of in laws being on the computer and not sure what to do or push... So I am not exactly sure what was downloaded. After they had been using the computer it started "crashing"- requiring me to start up Task Manager and exiting out of all programs. Then I would do a "reboot"- turning the computer off completely and restarting windows. I discovered a tool bar had been installed, and a program called "driver cure"- I immediately went to Control Panel and removed software installed on the dates they were here. This did help with constant crashing, and got rid of the toolbar. However, now I get an error window that says "Driver Cure is not installed correctly and needs to be reinstalled”. I can't seem to get rid of the message, nor find any programs called "driver cure" - I am not a novice with computers-- but definitely not an expect. Can someone please advise? Thanks.... Oh, when I deleted the file called "driver cure" it wiped out my Microsoft Word program. I was unable to open any document I had previously written and saved.

Hi Everyone,

A friend of mine experienced a BSOD crash on their Windows 7 computer. Unfortunately I was not in a position to see the exact message that was presented, however in my experience this doesn't always make a great deal of difference. After offering to fix my friend's computer I quickly discovered that one of the installed RAM sticks is faulty. I replaced both RAM sticks, and tested - all is fine on the RAM front. However the hard drive also appears to be corrupt. Windows 7 will not boot, and I have tried the following to rectify the situation:

1). Booted into Windows Recovery (using the W7 installation disk)

2). Windows didn't detect an Operating System install, so I made my way to the Command Prompt

3). Executed a number of commands that would normally fix the MBR and other boot related issues, notice after both the bootrec.exe /fixmbr & the bootrec.exe /fixboot commands reported "...completed successfully"! Then I issued the bootrec.exe /rebuildbcd command and Windows 7 promptly informed me that it couldn't find any Windows installations...

4). I then considered the possibility that the wrong partition may be set active on the disk, so I tried swapping the Active partitions around (and once this didn't achieve anything I switched back!)

Having had no success with the Recovery options I physically removed the hard disk and connected it to a docking bay -

Starting yesterday morning 6/9/11 around 1100 Eastern, I began getting a bad image error message.
In my attempts to diagnose I have run (with current updates) the following scans:
sfc /scannow (on my C drive under the command prompt)

I am not familiar with Hijackthis, but it was a suggestion from a friend. I did not, REPEAT - DID NOT, change anything after running hijackthis, because I did not feel comfortable making any changes with a new program.

I have logs from the latest scans of Malwarebytes and Hijackthis included below. Also, I have done a screenshot of the bad image error, but for some reason I can't seem to attach it in this topic (apologies).

I know that analyzing lines of code takes some time, and I am not first on your list, so I will be patient and keep checking this site for a response.

I do try to keep my computer updated and although I am using free virus scans, I thought I was doing everything right to be virus protected (if there is such a thing). I will say that I have been having difficulty uploading the latest Windows update. This was late last week (?) some time.

Thank you in advance for any help that you can give me.

I have always backed my personal hard drives using images for easy restoration

However i now have 2 PCs that need backup performed and they just want the data so an image is not necessary thus i only want the important data ie; documents and settings important files no junk such as updates or temp files

I would prefer to remove the hard drives and plug it into another pc to perform the backup instead of doing the back up from the actual machine

I was looking for the best possible way to perform this

Answer:Backing up hard drives to external, important data ie; pictures music

You can use Windows Backup via Control Panel, System and Security, Backup and REstore, just for backing up your data and settings. A simple backup of C:\Users\<your username> would suffice for most people unless you have your documents on a separate folder or drive.
I use a good third party backup program called Retrospec Pro from EMC (Retrospect).

While re-installing Windows 10 on my Samsung ativ book 9 (15" core i7), I had two partitions (256 gb ssd) half capacity each one, one holds the os, and the other my data.
when selecting the partition where to install windows 10, it tolds me that I cannot so i googled it, i figured out that i have to clean the partition and then convert it to gpt using diskpart.
so i did but instead of cleaning the system partition it deleted all the disk data in a second.
I have now one unallocated partition (256 gb), i created 3 partition afterwars, 500mb efi, primary for os, and third for my data. windows 10 installated successfully, but my data all gone.
I tried every single data recovery app, but all of them just recover some ****ty folders that doesn't have any value like desktop.ini. (by the way, i tried in the days after this data earthquake not to have new data to avoid overwriting the old precious data)
any help to undo clean command or anything would be amazingly appreciated.

Answer:Very Important data lost while installing windows 10 using diskpart clean partition, how can I get it back?

Unfortunately its your fault since you did not understand diskpart completely before using it. When using diskpart you might have selected the entire disk for the format rather than just the partition. There is no way your data can now be recovered.

I'm looking for a miracle here- this is kind of my prayer.

I have a Maxtor 250 G hard disk slaved to a Seagate 40 G drive. My system is like a 2ghz machine with a gig of memory. I recently reinstalled Windows XP by first running a format and an fdisk and something called a zerofill - (the exe was called Wipe)

The thing I'm concerned about is, that when I ran the wipe program it asked me to specify the drive I wanted to wipe. I wasn't sure so I went to fdisk just to see the physical drive configuration and numbers (because I knew that it named the fixed drives by numbers). The only drive in fdisk was the 40 G Seagate (the one I just previously partitioned, a.k.a the master drive). I noticed that the drive read as fixed physical drive 1... so I went back to the wipe program and typed in WIPE 1 (now I am not sure if I wiped the 250g drive or the 40g one).

The reason I am unsure is because when XP was finished installing, I went to MY Computer and did not see the 250 drive - however I was able to see it in Disk Management. (it was listed as Drive 1 - Basic - 232.88 GB "Unallocated")

I have very valuable (memories) on that drive and am worried that the data (photos and other) are lost. A friend suggested that I buy an external casing for it and try connecting it to another computer.

I already tried a few configurations with the jumper pins. Tthere were two master settings with the 40g and only one option to slave the 250g. I tried them both and... Read more

i think that my computer has a problem because its not working properly, i dont know what the problem exactly is, early this morning, i downloaded a picture of me from my photo bucket account, it downloaded it with my download manager, the settings of the download manager are to scan with my anti-virus any file that i download so i know it wasnt the file that i downloaded, back to the point, i tryed opening it, and it didnt wanted to open, i tryed opening task manager, cmd, internet explorer, and none of them didnt open, so i had to restart it, but it didnt shut down, so i had to do it manually, when the system started it was everything allrigth until my monitor shuts down and goes back on, then i opened the start menu, and it was all black, you couldnt see the icons, the "my computer" opened by itself, one of my antivirus settings are to open "my computer" to alert me that there are new updates, but i checked for new updates and there was none, so i changed my antivirus settings, so my computer wont open when there is updates, and i restart windows, when it started "my computer" opened by itself again, i dont know what going on now....

I have a problem with updates that try to install every time PC restart.
They give me everytime error code 80070490 and if I try to press Try again then give me error code 8024AFFF.
I try to solve the problem with Microsoft FixIt, then update was installed succesfully, but after restart they try to install it again (everytime the same update) and give the same error.

I found some solution on the net that not work for me:
1. Windows Update error 80070490
2. Error code 0x80070490 when you use Windows Update or Microsoft Update to install updates
3. Code Error 80070490 checking for Windows Updates - Microsoft Community

I not use first option becouse I not have original DVD, I have a PC with preinstalled system Windows 7 Home Premium.

Anyone have any ideo how to solve this problem?

Since it's 18 hours since you posted this with no response, I'd say it may be because you didn't provide the info that this forum requires. Run the SURT program, the sfc scan, and post the logs that are requested in the instructions found here:

Hopefully then you get a better response. I'm new here too and just learning the ropes, BTW.

Hi everyone

I am a newbie and I am sure its "not the tool but the mechanic" and is obvious but here goes:

Issue 1

3 important updates in Windows update reveal error 800B0100. They are KB:2604115, 2729452 and 2898857. They do not install. On PC they are called updates for Windows 7 yet, on-line they are called Windows6.1. Attempt at manual downloading on-line, results in message for KB: 2604115 and 2898857 "updates not applicable for my computer" what???. KB 2604115 starts to install then says 'Not installed". Microsoft Fixit says, prob installing recent updates, error 0x800B0100, and crypto service components are not registered. Have run Update Readiness Tool and Hotfix KB947821. Not resolved.

Curious that they are termed Windows 7 updates on PC in Windows Update yet online they say they are for Windows 6.1. Also statement that KB 2604115 and 2898857 are not applicable to my computer.

Do I need to worry about these or just ignore?

Issue 2

The Internet Explorer icon just disappeared. Have been IE and Mozilla. I click on IE button in the Start button and a box pops up that says "C:/Program File/Internet Explorer/explorer.exe is not a valid Win32 application". Tried to download internet explorer again but to no avail.

Thanks everyone for any advice

Answer:Error 800B0100-Important update categorised as not applicable to PC

Windows Vista(tm) is Windows6.0
Windows 7(tm) is Windows6.1
Windows 8(tm) is Windows6.2
Windows 8.1(tm) is Windows6.?

The version numbers, rather than the trade name reveal which version of the Source Code forms the base for the OS.
This was fine up to Vista, because they weren't similar... and then MS went silly and started TM'ing apparent version numbers

It does get confusing - and I really can't offhand remember what the version number for Windows 8.1 is!

....back to your problem.

It's likely caused by corruption in the SoftwareDistribution folder.

There are two ways to attempt to deal with it - the clever way, and the quick way.

One preserves most/all your Windows Update history, while the other trashes it (but updates are still installed) - neither are guaranteed to work.

Your choice - how much of a tearing hurry are you in to get back to what passes for normality?

Let me know and we'll work on it

Hi Tazz,

open up the cmd prompt

I haven't had this happen with Win 7 so I'm not sure about that one

older version of windows select RUN from start menu and type cmd

from there type "chkdsk X: /f" no quotes and replace X with whatever drive it is.

It should perform a scan and once complete should work just like new!

Basically, i dont care what it takes, or what it cost, i see a donate button, and ill be using it very quickly if someone can help me because I am a Record Label Owner and music producer, and in the midst of work today, i rebooted because after 2 days of heavily using music production sequencers, and audio mastering utilities the pc begins to lag of course thats normal.

However, when I rebooted this error came up...

McciTrayApp.exe - No Disk

There is no disk in the drive. Please insert a disk into drive \Device\Harddisk2DR5

i believe this is bs. im not computer illiterate, i am running windows xp, I do know that MCCI is usually associated with wireless net or things of that nature, i am running bellsouth internet.

and I have read that trojans and other spyware sometimes camo themselves... i believe i downloaded some sort of banner maker application earlier this morning, a couple. im not sure.

bottom line is, when my main production sequencer Cubase SX3 opens, and I open a project file, it locks up. This is vitally important that i get this fixed immediaetly, and I am willing to take care of whoever helps me the fastest, I dont mean to come in here and sound arrogant or offend anyone, I'm sure you can understand my concerns with my work.

i have a hard disk that has been recently affected by [email protected] virus and all the .doc and xls files have been reduced to 1kb irispective of their initial sizes and when you open the files you get this error; DATA Error [47 0F 94 93 F4 K5]

I would like to recover the affected files to their original state, i have searched the internet over and no one seems to have the solution documented

currently i am trying to download QuickView Plus (Version 8), i have tried all aplications i can come across, including recover my files, winhex, get data back for ntfs, and r-studio.

i am honestly intrested in documenting the solution to this problem, and am intrested in suggestins on the best way to approach this

looking forward to your favourable reply.

Answer:DATA Error [47 0F 94 93 F4 K5] Data Recovery

You will most likely need to restore those files from a backup. But don't do anything until you've made sure the virus is gone. Don't want to reinfect the files.

Here's another tricky one.
This important security update will not update. It is only 606Kb.
Microsoft says it is caused by a virus problem. I have Norton 360 installed. Norton say it is not a virus.

This has been going on since November 2014. All the other updates are installed immediately but not this one.

Question: Dr. Web Cure It?

There was quite a buzz in the Forum about the lack of security for a purchased Forum and then the discussion ceased as if the comment were never made.I was told that the nastie is "sdchsvc.exe" or "nssbsvc.exe" and the Sly Rep after questioned by other members could not provide any google info on this alleged nastie that I may be infected with and the discussion virtually stopped as he had no advice on where to get info on it and of course there were concerns from members about why buy a program when it allows this nastie allegedly to hook on. Once the dialogue went in that direction the discussion stopped and went into another direction.First, anyone heard of this "nastie", and I should say on my system which is xp, sp2, pent 4, 512 RAM, 1.6 ghz, mobile processor; I run NAV, Spybot Search and Destroy, Spyware Blaster, intermittent use of Avert Stinger, and Trojan Hunter, I have a Router and use Alpha Shield. Question: Can't cure MBR?

I'm in the middle of running a scan for a rootkit problem my Avast previously detected, and says I have. I've gotten on to your site, and am using the "sticky" thread re: virus/malware removal. After having downloaded all the programs you say to download, and running them in the prescribed order, I'm at the stage of running TDSS Killer. During this run, I've gotten a pop-up saying "Can't Cure MBR. Write standard boot code?" I've gotten this message after following instructions as specified, and have not altered anything in TDSS's settings. What should I be doing now?rolleyes

PS May be helpful to describe the rootkit message I've been getting - this has to do with "MBR - Wistler-A". About two days ago I experienced problems with my Yahoo email account (DAEMON non-deliverable mail notifications from months ago, emails to myself, and other anomalies). I suspect I was hacked and the account hijacked for spamming.

Answer:Can't cure MBR?

Had medical appts to take wife to today - left house at 1000A with situation as reported - came back at 400P with Kaspersky frozen, saying "Cure in Progress" but nothing has happened. I did save the report generated by the application, however. Since the program said it could not cure the MBR, and it would have to take the action stated in the previous email in this thread - should I just terminate the Kaspersky app, restart it, and see what happens?

i think i got a virus from installing a no cd crack for raven shield. when i start up, it shows my desktop background and mouse (moves properly) but i can't click anything. it works fine in safe mode however. I use windows xp professional so on that screen i can press alt ctrl del and open task manager and in turn open up programs. I installed norton anti virus right after i opened up the suspected file but it does not work right now because the virus definitions have an error even though i ran live update and it patched everythign. oh yeah and 1 more thing the moment before shutting down to restart by norton's live update thing, i can see the desktop and everything as normal. does anyone know how i might cure this?

sry i didn't include this earlier

Question: In need of a cure

Hi!This is my first time here, and I wish it were under happier circumstnaces.Whilst on my internet travels, I stupidly clicked a link that was for some competition or other. All I won was a shed load of trouble in the form of viruses and exploits.I'm very new to this as far as using Hijack this goes, and have always relied on my anti-virus/firewall/malware remover to deal with my problems, so I'm sorry for being a pain but you'll have to treat me as a novice and go step by step with me.This is a list of what I'm currently using to defend against intrusion and malware/adware:Norton Anti-virusNorton Personal FirewallAd-AwareHere is my current HijackThis log file:Logfile of HijackThis v1.99.1Scan saved at 00:08:15, on 31/07/2005Platform: Windows XP (WinNT 5.01.2600)MSIE: Internet Explorer v6.00 (6.00.2600.0000)Running processes:C:\WINDOWS\System32\smss.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\winlogon.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\services.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\lsass.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exeC:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\spoolsv.exeC:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\ccEvtMgr.exeC:\Program Files\Norton Personal Firewall\NISUM.EXEC:\Program Files\Norton Personal Firewall\ccPxySvc.exeC:\Program Files\Norton AntiVirus\navapsvc.exeC:\Program Files\Norton AntiVirus\AdvTools\N... Try a System Restore to a date before you installed it.
If that doesn't do the trick, give Revo Uninstaller a try.

And most here would recommend you stay away from registry cleaners. Check out some other threads by clicking the tags below.

Question: AVG to the cure.

Received a new CyberPowerPC last week with Win 8 installed. Gets the job done. I went with the idea that the Windows 8 claim that Defender does it all now so no outside Anti virus protection needed. NOT the case for me.
About 4 hours into playing with the new system I get and screen with FakeAV on it and it started its routine. Being
a new system there was no way this should be happening. i ran Defender again, and it saw nothing. I've used AVG a long time so installed a new version for it, and did full scan. It found it about 10 minutes later. Thats was enough proof for me that Defender isn't the last word yet and just run with AVG and Malwarebytes now. Been on all week and no more problems. I've used Avast in the past on my other systems with no complaint also. I prefer AVG but to each his own. Defender didn't do it for me, maybe you will have better luck.

I have noticed an awful lot of infected users visiting for assistance in malware removal lately. It is crucial that you all implement a solid, free AV such as Avast, a solid firewall like Comodo, and a virtualization tool like Sandboxie to your systems, at the very least. That way you won't keep having to deal with the nightmares.
Run your browsers sandboxed if you are surfing random sites like there is no tomorrow. Set it to "drop admin. rights" and "automatically delete contents of sandbox after closing".
If you are going to be downloading while sandboxed, set it for "quick recovery".

Those three security programs should keep you very cozy from now on without nagging pop-ups and other paranoia inducing ludicrousness.
Set Avast to "Gaming Mode".

All three security softwares I mentioned are free of charge.
Use, or to acquire said security software.

NOTE: If you choose to add Comodo firewall, make sure you shut down your current firewall. Win 7/8 firewall is arguably an adequate solution if you don't want to fool with an alternative firewall.

Answer:After We Help to Cure Your PC.........

A lot of those folks have a pay AV that they either let the subscription lapse, or failed to keep it updated, failed to update their operating system.
Windows needs to have a start screen to remind folks to do those things, or it won't run until fully updated and secured.

I've been having Kernal data inpage error which I assume is from a faulty harddrive (or maybe the RAM?!). I occasionally get a disk check during bootup, which didn't seem to help. I was saving up to buy a hybrid SSD/HDD drive before replacing it, but now it seems a bit too late.

Yesterday after a windows update, I rebooted my computer and the desktop was running very slow, nothing would open, explorer.exe would crash, I would be stuck in desktop until I force shutdown by holding the power switch (Shutdown didnt work), after doing this once or twice, I now get a BSOD again with a registry error right after the desktop loads for 1-2 seconds. X051 error code I think.

What step should I take now to diagnose the problem?

Edit: Think my hard drive may be failing and was the cause of my file synchronizing crash. I use it mostly to stream music and video and access the hard drive a lot. Any advice thanks

HDDStatus - Tool to check hard disk status, health and reliability

I've been using GoodSync for the past couple of months to chain synchronize 3 hard disk drives and ran into my first issue today. GoodSync stopped responding whilst synchronizing changes to files so I used task manager to manually end the process.

I'm not entirely sure how much damage has been caused but when I re-analyzed the file changes a lot of the changes prior to the crash was no longer listed.. So I'm unsure of the file integrity but have so far noticed some music video files are corrupt with cyclic redundancy check errors but is not easily visible to check corrupt files because they still play but parts of data are missing.

I think I've experienced cyclic redundancy check errors before when my external hard drive fell flat on it's side whilst it was playing music (3 years ago). It took me a long time to filter out the bad files because all the mp3 files worked but some songs would randomly play in others etc.. is their some type of automated CRC scanner or method to check all my files ?

Answer:Error copying file: Data error (cyclic redundancy check). CRC Scan ?

I have purchased the Acer eRecovery Discs and when I go thru the process of running the recovery I get the error that is in the subject line. it fails on the same file everytime POP01ICW0OX03C1161.SWM. I have changed out the HDD and DVD drive out with fresh ones, and yet the error remains. I contacted the tech support and the transcripts of that conversation will be at the bottom. I have tried finding the .iso of the disc I am having issues with but I can not find it anywhere online. I dont want to pay another $20 for another set of discs that may or may not work. I used Ultimate boot disc to verify the health of the HDDs that i have tested.

Occasionally, the computer will freeze up and make the "dieing" clicking noise, with the hard drive working furiously. Usually, I preform a hard reset, but on two occasions, I let the computer run, and I recieved similar blue screens of death, with the hard drive access light solid.

The first:
...(usual info on what may have caused error, how to start safe mode, etc)
*** STOP: 0x0000007A(0xC03E11F0,0xC000000E,0xF847CC22,0x009A2860)

*** ftdisk.sys-Address F85F1642 base at F85E7000, DateStamp 3b7d8419
Beginning dump of physical memory.

On the next occasion, I was trying to replicate the error after a day of no trouble, and did so by entering standby mode, then starting the computer back up. Surprisingly, I got this after saving a file(which, btw, didn't save)

*** STOP: 0x00000077(0xC000000E,0xC000000E,0x00000000,0x009520000)

After the error messsage, the computer auto-restarts, and runs really slowly, requiring a shut-down, wait a minute, start-up

According to microsoft, the second parameter in each of these is the status (, and 0xC000000E is STATUS_NO_SUCH_DEVICE. I have run mulitiple test... Read more

I copied some files from my old HP laptop with xp, burnt them with burnaware onto a dvd. Now on my new laptop (lenovo g580 W7 64bit) I tried to take them off the DVD and move to my local drive, when I was moving them from disc to drive explorer gave me a message saying 'Invalid MS-dos function' and the usual try again or cancel option.
Thinking some of the files on disc might be corrupt I ran
xcopy F:\*.*/s > C:\test1
And got the message in my topic title File creation error - Data error (cyclic redundancy check).
Now I don't have clue what this means and I can only tell you I have an output file in C, as per the command instructions, with almost all the files listed, some are missing but some of the ones there are the corrupt ones and some of the ones missing I think are fine.
Doesn't really lead me to the issue unless someone can decipher the error message I got?

I'm getting BSOD during normal use (whether it be web browsing or during a game). Memtest86 got 0 errors in 4 passes. CrystalDiskInfo and SSDlife both say that my drives are "healthy." CPU temps tend to hover between 40-60 degrees Celsius.

I've attached the dump files as the forum rules stated. Since this could be a drivers issue, I included a drivers list as well.

Question: Freeze cure.

My monitor has been freezing frequently for the past few weeks, requiring a restart. I have tried all of the cures kindly suggested on this forum, but to no avail. In frustration, when it froze last night, I thumped the case..., instant cure! The same treatment worked again this morning. This suggests to me a loose contact inside the infernal machine, my question is; Is there anywhere obvious that I should look? faling this, what size hammer should I buy for future remedial treatment?

Answer:Freeze cure.

I wouldnt advise opening the monitor and messing with the components, you could get a nasty shock even if its not powered. If it is a faulty/lose part then it would be best to take it to a repair shop.

I use a Windows XP Professional computer, on a Guest account. It is a public computer, but i use it almost everyday.

Everything was fine until today when I logged onto it, the folders where I stored my firefox browser went.. weird. When I clicked 'firefoxportable.exe', the MY DOCUMENTS folder appeared instead.

I went to all the folders where I stored my stuff, the following happened:
1) I go to a folder named "BLABLA"
2) Inside the folder BLABLA, there is another folder named 'BLABLA' too.
3) When I click on the BLABLA clone, the My Documents folder appears again.

And then, suddenly the computer will just shutdown itself.

How do I solve this? I am very much attached to that computer.

Question: Worm, cure?

I believe I have a worm. One day I opened internet explorer and my homepage was changed to something else, not sure what it was though. Then, a window for some download popped up, asking whether i wanted to download a certain program, i don't know the name of the program. It popped up three times and all three times i said "no" to the download. After the third time, I changed my homepage back to the orginal and began doing whatever i was doing. Shortly after this incident I started to notice that while I was on the internet I recevied numerous pop-us, even thought I have a pop-up blocker. I noticed some new programs have been added to my computer, some of these I can remove, others I can't. Most imporantly, my computer is running horribly slow, about a third of its normal speed. This is affecting everything I do. Lastly, whenever I try to shutdown my computer I get the blue screen. I think I may need to reformat my hard drive. On a side note, if I reformat the drive, do I get to chose what files my computer keeps and what it deletes?

is there a fix for this virus?

if not can someone tell me the safest way to

1. Format my hard drive
2. Harvest files from my infected system.

Thanks in advance..

Answer:is there a cure for virut

Your System is infected with Virut!!Virut is a file infecting virus which is able to modify itself each and every time it runs. In addition, when it infects, sometimes it will destroy the file it tries to latch onto. For these reasons, you really can't truly fix Virut. You will need to format/reinstall the operating system on this machine.More information: are bugs in the viral code. When the virus produces infected files, it also creates non-functional files that also contain the virus. is a polymorphic, entry point obscuring (EPO) file infector with IRC bot functionality. It can accept commands to download other malware on the compromised machine. It appends to the end of the last section of executable (PE) files an encrypted copy of its code. The decryptor is polymorphic and can be located either: Immediately before the encrypted code at the end of the last sectionAt the end of the code section of the infected host in 'slack-space' (assuming there is any)At the original entry point of the host (overwriting the original host code)Miekiemoes, one of our team members here and an MS-MVP, additionally has a blog post about Virut.
