Dual Monitors - cursor changes monitors vertically instead of horizontally

Question: Dual Monitors - cursor changes monitors vertically instead of horizontally

I have an ATI All-In-Wonder Radeon 9600 video card. It's been working properly for quite awhile and now suddenly the cursor moves to the second monitor when I drag the cursor beyond the bottom of the first monitor.

It used to go from one monitor to the other by dragging it from left-to-right. I can't figure out what caused it to start doing this or how to go about getting it back to the way it was before. Any ideas how to change it back. Any help will be appreciated. Thank you!

Preferred Solution: Dual Monitors - cursor changes monitors vertically instead of horizontally

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Dual Monitors - cursor changes monitors vertically instead of horizontally

Display Properties - Settings - Drag the monitors to side-by-side position with the mouse, it thinks they are one obove the other.

I get how to link monitors and extend them as such via http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/Move-windows-between-multiple-monitors..... I was however wondering if it is possible to extend dual monitors in a vertical format or only left to right. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I am going to connect my Lenovo y560 to an RCA HDTV via an HDMI cable.

Answer:Y560 - Set up dual monitors vertically.

if you are asking that if you can use external display as second desktop, it is possible.

Hi there
I am using an HP Pavilion DV6 Notebook which has a Radeon HD 7470m display driver.
I am using two displays, with one placed directly above the other.
The driver allows two displays, but expects them to be side by side. ..
... so I move the mouse to the right to go to the top screen, and from the top screen I have to move the mouse to the left to get to the bottom screen.
This is doing my head in!
Is there any way of getting the driver to respond to the up and down, rather than side by side nature of my set-up.
Methinks NO ... but perhaps you may know better.
Any advice will be greatly appreciated

Answer:Dual Displays - placed vertically .. not horizontally?

Try this. Use the "Monitors" application under System/Prefences and just drag the right hand monitor above the left hand monitor. Click apply and you're done.
Also from Microsoft. On the Display
screen, just drag the images of the monitors to the position you
physically have them in.

Having just upgraded from XP using the Nvidia dual monitor desktops for years, I was surprised to find Windows 7 has this feature in-built with the added bonus of slideshow desktop images C00L!
So beyond Win7 eye candy which is better, Does it come down to games running faster under the Nvidia dual desktops, what is the general preference here?

Answer:Is Nvidia dual monitors a poor cousin to Windows 7 dual monitors?..

afaik, there is no real performance difference, as all stuff is handled by the nvidia driver anyway.

And of course the more monitors the higher performance hit as there is more screen surface to work on (the same as increasing resolution).

Btw, the main pityfall of the multiple monitors is that the taskbar is only in the primary monitor, but there are a ton of good third party programs that can handle this, like Actual Multiple Monitors.

Hi,My setup includes dual monitors with a T61 in port replicator  and a Dell 24" monitor positioned above.  While I can achieve this setup by manually dragging the external monitor above the laptop each time I dock, I cannot get the Presentation Director to capture this position accurately.  It will capture the setup, but reverts to horizontal monitors with left/right mouse whenever the captured profile is used.   [With my old T43 in the same setup, I was able to get the monitor positions memorized correctly. ] Does anyone have a solution?  I've checked the Control Panel--> Display settings and the NVIDIA Control panel.  The control panel allows me to set up the external monitor as per above, but I haven't found any control to ensure the settings "stick".

Answer:Dual Monitors / Cannot capture vertical monitors (mouse up /down vs left /right)

Additional Note:  I've also tried creating a new profile in the Presentation Director with the selection for "External Monitor positioned above laptop", but that does not work as it will not recognize the external monitor resolution of 1900x1280, and thus will not allow me to finish the profile.

Hi! I just upgraded to Win8 this weekend and so far I really like it. I discovered something this morning that now that the weekend is over is bugging the crap out of me and I need help. I work from home and use this alot so it would be helpful.

I am trying to do a couple things I could easily do in 7,
- have Chrome open in both monitors at once with different things on them.
- currently Chrome has no minimize/maximize buttons on the upper right like it used to. Makes it very hard to multitask.

I have 2 monitors, the main is a 23" touch screen and the second is an 18" non-touch screen.

Also, is there a way to have the taskbar to appear at the bottom always like it used to?

Thanks! I really appreciate the help!

Answer:Windows 8 Dual Monitors, need help having browser open in both monitors

Answered my own question. Google Chrome was showing in App mode. When I downloaded Chrome for 8 there is an option to have it show in desktop mode and the taskbar, minimize/maximize, and multi window option came back. YAY.

Now if someone could tell me why windows 8 won't fill the screen at the resolution recommended for my 23" monitor I'd be good!

I notice four little feet on one side of the tower and four little feet on another side. It looks at though the tower could be placed on its side using those feet, or stood up vertically on those other feet. Does it matter if the tower lies on its side or is stood up vertically?

When I plug in a 2nd monitor to my laptop, I get a second (useless) cursor on the 2nd monitor.  For instance, if the monitors are set up [1][2] and I have the cursor on monitor 1, a ghost or mirror cursor will appear on monitor 2.  Only the left cursor will be able to function.  When I move the main cursor over to monitor 2, the ghost cursor dissapears off the screen to the right.  The whole situation is more of an annoyance than anything as I sometimes lose which is the 'real' cursor.  Any way to eliminate this funky double cursor thingy? Thanks for any help you can offer.

Answer:Dual Monitors "ghost cursor"

Do we get any specific clues about the monitor or the laptop, or are we just expected to guess?   :-?

i have a bit of a problem and im hoping the answer is an easy one.

Im looking to get a DVD/burner drive

i need it to go into my case on its side, but also be able to go flat when i change cases in a few months

im not sure wheather they do both, or only some do

im looking at getting a 'pioneer dvd burner black model 109'

thx

Answer:DVD drives working horizontally and vertically?

To work on its side the drive needs those little things to hold the disc when inserting. Well. Not neccesary, you can also flip your computer over when inserting a disc.

(Microsoft Excel) How would you display a line of text to show vertically after each text in one cell? For example:
Total
Activity
Cost
and not Total Activity Cost (in one cell)?
Thank you in advance.

Answer:Display text vertically and not horizontally in 1 cell (Excel)

When you enter the text, use Alt+Enter after each word.
When finished it will wrap the text, with each Alt-Enter being a new line.

I have an ATI 5770 with the 5 mini display ports and am running 3 monitors. The cursor moves across all 3 monitors but stops on the right edge of the right monitor and the left edge of the left monitor. Is there a way I can get the cursor to move to the right from the right monitor to the left monitor and the left monitor to the right monitor? I hope this makes sense.

Answer:Moving cursor on 3 monitors

Hi, case1!

I'm not aware of any "wrap around" mouse function though others might weigh in differently.

In essence, an extended monitor, whether it is on one, two, three, or even six monitors still constitutes a constrained desktop - just an extended one.

So I just ordered an 8800gts to replace my 7800gts in Vista x64. I was wondering if keeping it and running my secondary monitor off of it would alleviate the stress aero puts on the video card when running dual monitors and gaming and increase my performance. Would I be better off keeping the 7800gts for the second monitor? Is this even possible?

Answer:Dual Video cards, dual monitors, and Vista game performance

It is certainly possible, you can use both cards at the same time, assuming your mob supports it.

I doubt if you'll see a huge increase in gaming performance, as aero essentially shuts itself off when needed (gaming), but it won't hurt anything either.

I am using a multi-monitor setup and one of the monitors is a Touch screen monitor. Whenever I press on it, it moves the cursor to that monitor, working as normal. However I would like to make it so it doesn't move the cursor over there when I press there or return the cursor to it's previous position after finishing a touch screen action. Is there a way to do this?
It is a Dell E157FPTe, using EloTouch, and shows up in hardware as a mouse device and not a touch input.
Edit: Just to clarify, the rest of the monitors I'm using are not touch screen monitors. It shows up as a separate mouse device in addition to my regular mouse.

Answer:Touchscreen moves cursor away from other monitors

Not likely. The touch screen overlay part is calibrated to that monitor so the cursor moves to exactly where your touching it. The X, Y coordinates.

I have two Dell 27-inch HD monitors (S2740L), which I used for more than a year on my XPS desktop (WIN 8.1), and they were beautiful. When I try to use them with my Precision 7710 (through the Advanced E-Port Plus docking station or a direct cable to the laptop), the monitors don't look very good - text looks jagged and is very hard on the eyes. (I have verified this multiple times by setting up my identical monitors side by side, with one connected to the Precision and one connected to the XPS.)
(Dell "support" has verified this problem as well. Note that this is NOT related to any particular app – this is related to the OS, and is visible in the taskbar, on the desktop, in File Explorer, etc.)
In an attempt to fix the problem, I have noticed that:
The two monitors are visible in Device Manager:

But both Intel and NVIDIA think I have only one monitor, and that it is a TV:
I paid a LOT of money for this laptop, specifically so I could use the external HD monitors, and I can't.
Does anyone have any ideas? (Please see additional notes before responding.)
Additional Notes:
I have been working with Dell on this since last October (about 8 months ago). These are the things we have tried:

Reset the OS
Reinstall the OS
Update, uninstall, and reinstall drivers
Replace the graphics card, motherboard, and SSD
Update the BIOS

Hi,I have a T530 running Windows 8 with NVS 5400M / Intel HD 4000 Optimus graphics.I have recently switched from one external monitor to two external monitors. One is connected via mDP, the other via VGA.When both are connected, the mouse cursor lags whenever it changes icons.Digging through other forums, I found it to be a known bug with the intel graphics driver. There is a new driver out on the Intel website for the HD 4000 platform which fixes the issue.I was able to install the driver through device manager and it indeed stopped the cursor lag. However, it causes my whole system to freeze up every few hours so that is not an acceptable solution.I need Lenovo to release a new Optimus driver that includes a stable Intel HD 4000 driver that has no cursor lag. This issue is driving me nuts. Thanks, ltctech

Answer:T530 NVS 5400M/HD 4000 Cursor Lag w/ 2 Ext Monitors

Well, its been months and this still hasn't been addressed.Lenovo keeps releasing ancient drivers that have this known issue. The Intel driver bundled with the Optimus driver which Lenovo released Aug 13 is 9.17.10.2843.This version was released sometime in late 2012.The current version from Intel is 9.18.10.3165 released 05/10/2013. I have removed all Lenovo graphics drivers from my system.I have installed these drivers:https://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&DwnldID=22842&lang=eng&OSVersion=Windows%208...http://www.nvidia.com/object/quadro-notebook-win8-win7-64bit-320.78-whql-driver.html With the Intel/Nvdia drivers the problem is fixed.Unfortunately, it appears that power management is no longer able to tell when Nvdia is shut off.My CPU is stuck at 1.2Ghz (rated at 2.6Ghz) whenever on battery power after Nvidia graphics has turned on.So if I boot without using Nvida my CPU runs at 2.6Ghz, the second it switches on my CPU throttles to 1.2Ghz.When I ensure that no application is using Nvida, it appears that Nvdia is off but my CPU is still throttled at 1.2Ghz. I assume that the stock Lenovo drivers install some sort of Lenovo specific power management extension. When I use drivers provided by Intel/Nvidia this extension is not installed.I also don't understand why the CPU must throttle to 1.2Ghz on battery power when the Nvidia GPU is used. Lenovo seriously needs to release an Optimus driver pack with an Intel driver that ... i have 2 ati radeon hd 4850's. right now they are connected with the crossfirex bridges and i'm only using one monitor and running crossfirex. i'm thinking of getting a second monitor for better gaming/seeing more stuff in flight sim X.

what i can't find is how to use 2 monitors with 2 cards. do i remove the crossfirex bridges and connect one monitor per card, or do i keep the crossfirex bridges and connect both monitors to the first card, still running crossfirex?

thanks!

Answer:dual graphics cards, dual monitors, ati crossfireX

I would just connect the 2 monitors to the one card and then extend the desktop using either desktop properties or Catalyst control center.

When you have multiple monitors, there is resistance to passing the mouse cursor between them which is useful when you want to interact with the edge of one of the monitors but can also be inhibitory. Is it possible to tweak the resistance so that you don't need quite as much cursor speed to break the boundary?

Over the last 6 months I purchased my teen son a Creative DVD Drive for his Compaq Presario as well as a Creative Audigy MP3+ Sound Card and the Creative/Cambridge DTT3500 6 Speaker Dolby 5.1 Sound System .... {the things kids get today ... you can send your donations to .....} ... Hi all, after I read the page ( I know that it is outdated )http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/detail.page?LegacyDocID=MIGR-76617citation:1st Display: Active ThinkPad display2nd, 3rd, 4th Displays: Any combination of the following:DisplayPort on ThinkPadDisplayPort on Mini Dock PlusDVI digital port on Mini Dock PlusVGA analog port on Mini Dock PlusI thought it will definitely be possible to use the internal display plus 3 external monitors digitally connectedwith the T430 (i7 3520M, nvidia 5400M) and mini dock plus 3. But no combination I tried works. Thereadme of the nvidia display driver says nothing about a quad display configuration. The only way it workedwas to connect one monitor with the VGA port, which really annoying because the picture is blurred. Couldsomeone please confirm that it is not possible to connect three external monitors digitally ? This drives me crazy. There is another problem I have. When all three external monitors are connected, the mousecursor hangs(doesn´t follow the actual mouse movement for a short time) when it changes the shape from arrow to bar(the shape it has when it hovers over text or a textbox) and the other way around. That drives me crazyeven more. Without the external monitors everything is fine. Does anyone has the same problem or even asolution (yes, I have all the latest drivers installed) ?Kind regards

Answer:T430 (nvs 5400m) three external monitors and annoying cursor problem

Which dock do you have?  The last one at the bottom of http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/detail.page?LegacyDocID=MIGR-76617 ??? Let me clue you in on a couple of things.  First, on the dock I am refereing, you'll see two banks of digital connections.  Each bank has a DVI and DisplayPort connector.  When using those connectors, you can only use one of the two connectors.  Therefore, in bank 1 you can use either DVI or DP but not both.  Same applies to bank 2.  That gives you a max of 2 digital connections not 4 on the dock. If you want another digital connection, you should be able to use the mini DP connector on the notebook.  The key word here is should.  If the mini DP connector doesn't work, Lenovo will have to explain why. The VGA connection should not be fuzzy if you are driving the LCD panel at it's native resolution. NOTE: Didn't you already post this question in another thread?

I used to have things set up where the monitor was hooked in to my laptop and I could see the desktop on both the monitor and the laptop screen. Somehow I managed to extend the desktop on to the monitor and I can't get it back to where the desktop is on both. I tried deselecting the "extend my desktop" option but now XP doesn't recognize the monitor and I just get a flashing yellow light.

Is there any way I can get things back to having the desktop on the monitor?

Answer:Dual Monitors In XP

Are you talking about the option where you see the exact same thing on both monitors? If so, look for the option to clone the display. If you're using an nVidia card, it should say something like clone. As for ATI video cards, I'm not sure but it should be similar. I don't have a dual monitor setup with ATI cards at the moment and my only ATI cards are running Linux which probably has some different settings and names for them.

Yes. You need 2 videocards or a videocard with 2 outputs. (mostly 1 vga and 1 DVI) Then connect a CRT to the vga connector and an LCD to the DVI. Or a second CRT using an adapter.

Ok I used the search feature and I am going to say I cant do this but I would like to mkae sure by asking my own question

I have a radeon x850pro video card, a 19" lcd and a 19" crt, a disabled onboard (STOCK) video card as well. Is it possible to run dual monitors on this win xp system ?

I seem to remember in the manual of my radeon card it said I was able to.

Thank you

Answer:Can I do dual monitors

Yes, it should work fine. Hook the VGA plug to the CRT and the DVI to the LCD. Then go into ATI Catalyst Control Center and make your LCD desktop 1 (primary) and the CRT as desktop 2. You can set the resolution independently for each monitor.

You could also hook-up the s-video output to your TV.

I have dual monitors, one on my laptop and another bigger monitor for when I am docked and at the office.

Under XP I had it set so that when I closed the lid on my laptop, the lapto screen was shut off and all files that were subsequently opend were opened to the main big screen.

It appears now that when I close the lid the screen stays on and if there was a window showing on the laptop when the lid is closed it does not automatically switch to the big monitor. It used to under XP. Is there a way to duplicate this behavior in Windows 7?

There are times when I want to use just one monitor and shut the monitor built-in to the lap top - off. Is there an easy way to do so?

Answer:Dual Monitors on Win 7

Wish someone would give a response to this. Surely I am not the only one. It appears the way Windows handles multiple monitors has changed substantially since XP.

Question: Dual Monitors

Hello - I am beginner kind of PC guy, and am trying to work something out for my Wife. Her work will let her do some work from home, but in order to do so, we need DUal Monitors like she has at work. Her Work IT guy said to plug one into the VGA and the other into the DVI...But I don't have a DVI port...I only have the standard VGA port (which our regular monitor is plugged into) and an S-Video port...

My question is, can I do Dual Monitors using the s-video? Do they make a S-video to VGA convertor? I have an HP, about a year old...A friend said i need to get a new Video card and install it, but I am not to keen on cracking open the PC myself, or paying someone to do it unlesss it is the only option...

Can anyone help me out with some advice? The goal is to have 2 workspaces, so splitting the single VGA won't help??

Question: Dual monitors

Hi, I'd recently bought a VGA cable splitter to attempt to enable dual monitors onto my PC. I ran into some trouble with the dual monitors, I do have 2 monitors, 2 VGA cables, a splitter, and also 2 graphics cards. So when I plug in the 1 end of the splitter with the 2 other ends of it sticking out, I insert each VGA cable from each monitor to each end of the splitter. Both monitors turn on correctly and function properly, but they both show the same picture, and I'm trying to get one monitor to show my desktop and the other monitor able for me to slide other windows onto it. I've also tried connecting one VGA cable from one monitor do 1 of my graphics cards and the other VGA cable connected to the other monitor to the second graphics card but only one of the graphics cards will display my desktop. I recently bought the Galaxy GeForce GT620 graphics card, and I also have an integrated Radeon HD 6530D graphics card that was in my computer when I bought it. If you can support me in any way to get my dual monitors working I'd really appreciate it. Thanks!

Hi everyone,

I have an IBM M52 8215-d1g, that according to the internal riser has a PCIe 1x addr2-r slot. According to the documentation on the website it is a Small Form Factor (2x3).

I have some questions:-

I want to run a second monitor off my machine, what cards/ type of cards are recommended for my desktop box?
Should I be looking for a dual head card, or would the system be able to utilize the internal card at the same time?

I would preferably be looking for at least a 256Mb card minimum, would also be looking at mebbe HD support for future ref, but not essential, as the TV has a VGA in that I use.

Thanks so much.. if there's anything I have missed, ask away.

Question: Dual Monitors

Hi,

I'm new to Tech-Heaven.

Here's my problem....Im running dual monitors in Windows XP Professional. The two video cards I have is a GeForce2 Ti AGP4x(default monitor) and a GeForce2 MX PCI(secondary monitor). When I start up my computer it just sits there, I've found a way to trick it in to starting by unplugging one of the monitors and letting the computer boot into windows. When I do that everything works fine.

Can anybody help me?

Thanx,
The51

Thanx for the post that helped alot, but i have another issue. i switched my 'init display first' to my agp(it was originally set to pci). when i start up my computer my agp card with my monitor hooked up to it work fine, but the pci card doesn't work at all. I found out that my pci card cannot start.

I have the AGP card in the AGP slot and the PCI card is in the second PCI slot, only because my AGP card blocks the first PCI slot.

Question: Dual Monitors

I was wondering if my Leadtek GeForce4 Ti 4600 WinFast A250 Ultra(heh, too long of a name) would support dual monitors, if I got an adaptor for the DVI out?

I doubt it would since it says nothing about dual monitors in the manual and nothing on the website. But I can always hope! If that doesn't work, does anyonw have any recommendations on a dual monitor setup?

Thanks in advance.

Answer:Dual Monitors

Not sure on the card, but if you install a second Video card in a Win2k or XP box, you have Dual desktops right away. Only problem is that the second card has to be PCI so there is some lose there. One the Card, unless otherwise noted, you will get the same desktop twice. If you can find a reference for Dual diplays, then you should be able to have two independent screens. I didn't think that Nvidia did that, but then I have been found wrong a few times...
ATI cards have this ability in the Radeon Line of cards. The only problem I have found is when gaming, you have to reduce to one display cause it takes too much power from the GPU.
Hope this helps...

Video Card: ATI Radeon HD 3470+ an Onboard video card.  I am trying to do a dual monitor setup, but every time I enable one of the video cards, the other one gets disabled...making it impossible to have two running at once.I've used the bios settings automatic, PEG, and the internal card setting (can't remember what it's called in the bios) Any help or advice?Message Edited by mangler108 on 07-15-2009 11:20 AM

Answer:M58 Dual Monitors

the problem is that lenovo sysboards are deciding by trigger signal, which graphic port is powered off (auto/auto). Why do you like to use the internal graphics and waste system performance? you should be able to run both screens on your ATI. The card should be able to provide analogue signals too, if you like to use an analogue one for secondary, you could use a standard DVI-Adaptre.

I just bought a new TV and hooked it up to my Acer Aspire X1200 Desktop PC via HDMI Cable (HDMI from PC to HMDI TV input).

Every time I drag something over to the TV, (e.g. a Video)... the TV Picture works OK but I lose all the desktop icons on the PC Monitor and get an error report (one of which I sent for analysis).

In order to get the icons back, I have to reboot the computer and usually the icons are reconfigured in a cluster....i do not have 'align to grid' selected (Lucky I have a little Gismo which will reset the desktop items to my previously configured favourite layout).......

I have a VGA to HDMI Converter but did not use that yet because I am waiting for a splitter for the VGA Cable which will boost the signal to both monitors (and I believe would simply duplicate my desk top anyway).

If I could simply use the TV as an extension Monitor without all the problems after I have dragged something over to that screen, then I would not even have to use a converter or a VGA splitter.

Any ideas as to why my Desktop Monitor goes 'skewiff' after I push something out to the extension monitor?

Answer:Dual Monitors W7 x64

One monitor with VGA connection and one with HDMI, both of the same graphics card (which from the Acer Aspire X1200 I am assuming is the integrated NVIDIA GeForce 8200).

If you press the (Windows Key + P) together, holding down the Windows key, is the option Extend selected? If not, can you select it please (still holding down the Windows key, press P a couple of times until Extend is selected).

How have you setup the two monitors, their resolution mainly but anything else?

Yes, a VGA splitter will only duplicate the output, you will see the same image on both monitors.

Setup: Dell Monitor as primary, Sharp 32" TV as secondary monitor.
When I move VLC over to the TV and click the maximize button, it maximizes on my dell monitor.

The only workaround I've found so far is setting VLC to minimal view, then toggling fullscreen on.

If I do a VLC playlist and it switches tracks, it toggles off fullscreen mode, so I have to get up... plus I'd rather click one button to make it work instead of doing that workaround.

A guy at work said he noticed the same thing, and has not found a better solution...

Any idea how to make this work?

I have a ThinkCentre A62 (9935-b7u) at work that I'd like to set up with dual analog displays. I took a PCI Express card that was running dual displays out of an A61 (9120-acu) and it doesn't recognize the card at all. Even after updating the BIOS, all I get are post beeps. The A62 has a built-in VGA and DVI-D output on the back. However, from what I've been reading, it's not as simple as buying a VGA to DVI-D adapter to make this work. Can the A62 actually display dual monitors with the two onboard video heads? and if so, what adapter would I need to make a VGA monitor compatible with the DVI-D port? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Answer:Dual Monitors on A62?

your system should support surroundview, in which if you use an ATI graphics card (i.e. ati 3450), you can use the dvi + vga port from the thinkcentre, in addition to the video card's video port output. http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/A-and-M-Series-ThinkCentre/How-do-you-get-4-monitors-support-through-Sur...

Question: Dual Monitors

Hello,

I recently installed Windows 8 and was playing around with it for most of the day yesterday, I was able to get both monitors up and working, I have a Vizio E470VL and a Sony SDM-P232W ... Yesterday I had the E470VL as the main Screen and it made the 2nd Display a Generic Nvidia Display monitor, but both were working..

So last night I watched some preseason football on the Vizio on HDM2 and when I woke up this morning, the Sony was still working but the Vizio (computer is on HDM1) had no signal input, while I noticed the extended screen was enabled meaning my mouse disappeared onto the other blank screen .. so the thought occurred to me to restart..

So I restarted, then it recognized my Sony with its proper settings instead of the Generic and only listed one monitor in the Display settings.. I did a detect device and was given a few options of adding another monitor, and tried to do that, without any success.. so then I detached the Sony, and tried to restart only with the Vizio on both ports, the one it was originally in and the one the Sony was in.. with no success, still no signal, checked the connections, and somehow I doubt it would be the cable and I admit that the symptoms in trouble shooting things kind of point to that, but the cable is new.. and would love to entertain other ideas before getting a new one..

any suggestions?

Hello,
I just recently started running dual monitors, my first monitor is my laptop screen while my second monitor is a 19" Dynex lcd tv. The resolution on the laptop screen is set to 1280x800 where as the tv is set at 1440x900

My problem started when I decided to try and play a game on the tv monitor. The game was set in a 1280x800 resolution and as far as I can tell it must be changing the tv to a resolution it doesn't support, because i get the error message "Mode not supported". This also happens when I change the tv's resolution to a resolution below 1440x900.

I fixed the problem and as long as my laptop is open i can use the second monitor as a main monitor or a secondary one. However when I close the laptop screen the tv screen goes blank and displays the error message again ("Mode not supported"). What should happen is the tv should automatically switch to main and only monitor. So I am assuming somewhere in the computers settings this is messed up I just can't find where and its driving me crazy.

I can't find the solution in the nvidia control panel or in display settings.
Thanks in advance.

I don't particularly game on due to having a PS2, (I know that was a little like swearing on here lol), I do watch dvds on my pc, so would appreciatte something that will make the picture crisp while watching these. As I mentioned earlier it is not just affecting Adobe products.

I have asked on Adobe forums, but please note that this was with a different monitor. See the link below, I did not receive a response?

After a chat with Adobe and changing the resolution on my old set up (the setup in the link above) to the settings below, they come to a conclussion that it was a resolution issue as the modules were displaying correctly.

Try right clicking your program's .exe file, select properties open the compatibility tab, and set "Override high DPI scaling..." and set it to System Enhanced:

Question: Dual monitors

I hope I didn't goof up. I purchased an Idea Center K Series desktop from Tiger Direct along with a KFA Nvidia GeForce 8400 video card. I bought the system to use in my church to run a projection system as a 2nd monitor. I thought enabling dual monitors would be as easy as installing the video card and connecting the projector to its output. However, with the GeForce video card in the PCIE slot, the integrated video seems to disapear leaving only the GeForce. I assumed there would be a BIOS setting that would allow me to enable both the integrated video and the PCIE card, but I can't find it. Please tell me there's a way to make this work!

What type of computer do you have?  How did you get the graphics adapter to work?  Did you have to change the power supply to be able to plug in the adapter?

Question: dual monitors?

im just wondering about this iver heard of ppl doing it and im wondering how its done.

.:thx:.

Answer:dual monitors?

I just did this to my own setup. First, you need to check and see if your video card is compatible. If you are using any newer model NviDia or ATI card, then it should be. Second, you need to get a hold of a VGA to DVI adapter. You will plug your primary monitor into your VGA slot and your secondary one into your DVI slot. Plug in your second monitor, then go to Display Properties, click settings and then select your secondary graphics adapter. Then, check the box next to "extend desktop onto this monitor," click OK, and whalah.

I have a home workstation (Win7 Ultimate 32 bit) with dual monitors connecting to my office workstation (Win7 Ulitmate 64 bit), which has 3 monitors. The checkbox in Remote desktop to allow dual monitors is checked but I cant get the second monitor to work (through the VPN). I have tried disconnecting the 3rd monitor to match the number of monitors, but that didnt work. Anyone have any thoughts? Thanks

Answer:Dual Monitors using RDP over VPN

Original post was incorrect. Office workstation had Windows 7 Professsional. The host computer needs to have Ultimate installed to allow the dual monitors to work using remote desktop. Upgraded to Ultimate and it works great.

Hello. I cannot get a dual monitor setup to work for the life of me. I've made a LITTLE progress though by tweaking the BIOS to load from the Mobo VGA port first on boot, but now the second monitor just stays lit up with the windows 10 logo and nothing else, while the first still works just fine. Windows will not detect the second monitor, nor will extending it on the projector settings work. The main monitor is plugged into DVI on an old ATI Radeon HD 7700 Series card. Forget the exact model and that. I believe it's an H.I.S. Radeon. But I'm going through all the options and i'm scratching my head here. help would be appreciated.

EDIT The Radeon card I have only supports one DVI connection and one HDMI. Both monitors I have are VGA/DVI.

Answer:Need help with dual monitors

I'll happily be wrong, but I don't believe you can run one from the mobo and one from the video card together.

Disable the mobo GPU in BIOS.

Then get an HDMI/DVI adapter so you can run the second monitor off the card with the first.

Please help. Thanx.

Answer:dual monitors

I believe there is an FN key in your laptop.
There is also somewhere in the numerical keys, something like two squares, imagine one square then another square right on top of that but up and to the left a little. That is what this icon looks like.
Press fn and the key with that logo. THere are 3 options that you toggle like this. One is laptop display only, external monitor only, and display both (not necessarily in that order). So once you get it to display on both post another message if you have problems after or during this process.

Recently, for some reason, the two monitors reversed their "prime" status.

Where the LG one was primary for years now what ever I do or change in NVidia of Ctrl Panel the desktop appears in the Dell one.
Home build, Asus P5K Premium WiFi Intel,
Intel Core 2 Quad Pro Q6600, EVGA GeForce 9800,

Question: Dual Monitors

I got a new computer  and run two monitors from a Nvidia double port video card.  Card has worked well on a previous computer.  Newer computer has 'big time' processor speed and memory.  However I can't put up more than one page/site at a time.  With one up, any desktop icon I click to put something else up on the second screen,  just knocks the first one off.  If I minimize the first screen to the Task Bar,  and click a second site,  it just replaces it in the Task Bar.  I did not have this problem before, so I'm hoping its something I need to tweak on the new computer.  Any thoughts ?

Answer:Dual Monitors

I would check the video settings in Control Panel...did you re-install the vid card drivers in the new machine ? ?patio.   8-)

Answer:Dual Monitors

It might be possible to create an autoit program to do this.
It would require a lot of skill and computer knowledge patiance and willing to learn some programing if your up for it. see this link. AutoIt 3.0
THe easiest way is to set it up to simulate mouse clicks and keystrokes. You use note pad to write the script and save it as .au3
A list of functions can be found here Functions
You can also use a nifty little gadget included called AutoIt Window Info which provides you with details about the enviroment your working in.

Other than that i dont know of any other programs
Hope ive been help full

Question: Dual Monitors

Hello everyone!

Here is my problem. I am running Windows 7 Ultimate Edition on my desktop PC. I installed a fairly old graphics card (dont need anything fancy for software programming). It is a Jaton 117PCI with 32MB memory. Also I have a ATI Radeon HD Pro 2600 Installed. I cahnged my BIOS to boot PCI first instead of PCIe. Windows will boot up but no display on the ATI Card. I go to device manger and it shows both cards, with no conflicts and working properly.

When i access the displays menu in Windows 7 it will only show my montior on the Jaton card and will not show my ATI card as being active.

Is there anything i can do to get these two cards to work together? (I thought i was really good at computers, but now haha this has thrown me for a loop)

I found this post:
Triple Screen troubles
it was identical to my problem except my setup was different, his method of fixing his problem i dont think is going to work for me.

Also, the ATI card has two DVI ports and a S-Video, i just dont have another monitor with DVI. When i use a DVI to VGA converter the monitor wont come on it will stay in power save mode. I know the ports on the card are working because I can remove the converter and plug it up to my other monitor that has DVI on it and it will power up.

So any help to solve either one of these problems will be greatly appreciated. If there is anymore information you may need please let me know!

Thanks, Jonathan.

Answer:Dual Monitors

When you right click on the desktop and select Resolutions do you get the option for both cards there?

If you dont, have a look in Device manager and see if they are both WDDM 1.1 Cards because i believe they have to be to run together.

If you do, try installing the actual drivers for your monitors, as that fixed similar problems mentioned at the end of my original thread...

Question: Dual Monitors

I have a Acer, Sony and a Compaq laptop and want to be able to attach to have 2 additional monitors through VGA ports. However I need both to be recognized as seperate monitors hence a splitter wont work. If it was a desktop I could install a dual vga video card but not with the laptop. I am thinking that the only way to do this is to get a usb docking station with video however I am not sure if I would have to plug the vga for the laptop into the vga(in) on the docking station in order to use the vga on it. What can I do?

Question: Dual monitors ATI

I just got a new system with an ATI HD4890, very fast in gaming but i'm getting sluggish performance on the desktop. I'm pretty sure this is something to do with me running dual monitors as when I disable the second monitor everything is fine.
Is there some sort of fix for this? does anyone else have the same problem? is it a known ATI limitation?

Thanks,

Answer:Dual monitors ATI

Never had a problem with running dual monitors with mine. You may want to update your drivers or, if it started after an update, go back to the last version.
