Question: help needed with Fuji_Xerox C525A colour laser printer

Hi all,

Long time reader, first time writer.

I recently purchased a Fuji-Xerox C525a Colour Laser Printer and have had problems making adjustments on the printer preferences screen. It's not that I can't make adjustments, rather that I can't read what the screen says. All of the text is in blocks and vertical lines. I have the latest drivers and software installed but to no avail.

Clicking the help button on the bottom right brings up a message saying:

C:\windows\system32\spool\drivers\W32X86\3\fxhl2z. hlp file was created for a language not supported by you version of windows.

I am running a Pentium 4, 3.2ghz, 1 gig ram, windows XP.
The printer prints just great, but I would like to be able to make adjustments for print quality etc.
I have attached a screenshot of what i mean.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
J.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I want to buy a colour laser printer for home use. It will be used mainly for word documents with the occasional photograph thrown in.

Don't tell me to buy an inkjet because that is not what I want. What I want is a recommendation for a laser printer capable of 1200dpi in A4 format. Preferably something that you have had personal experience with.

This printer will not get a lot of use, but I do not want to wish that I had bought something better as soon as I get it home.

You help in making the right choice is appreciated.
Regards from Graeme Marion.

Answer:Which colour laser printer to buy?

A few questions.
What is your budget range? Are we talking something sub $1000? When you say 1200 DPI, do you mean 1200x1200 or 1200x600? 1200x1200 is usually on higher end printers in the $1500-$2000 range.
Do you prefer the output of a specific engine technology? Or does the print engine (LED,Toner,Wax) not matter to you?
Also, what kind of performance do you want in the printer, must it be single pass color machine? Or do you want the high-speed color capabilites of the single pass printers?

Those questions being asked I dug up a few different printers in varying price ranges.

I have an Epson Photo 870 Inkjet and it's driving me up the wall.
Admittedly I've had it years and it's done a lot of printing, but now it's getting a bit long in the tooth. Every time I print I have to clean the heads. The kids complain all the time because the quality it not consistent. I have used genuine cost a fortune Epson cartidges and also compatibles, but I think it's past its best.

My Mums old B&W Brother goes on and on, never needs cleaning, looking at and never paper jams.

So, I was thinking of investing in a colour laser printer and thought you lot out there might be able to recommend a good bit of kit.

I'm not too worried about speed.
Something with separate colour cartridges would save cash, not just 1 black 1 colour.
A good quality print, maybe even up to photo standard.
Not too pricey on cartridges and maybe something I can get compatible cartridges for.

I'm sure there are some of you out there with some advice.

Answer:Recommendations? for colour laser printer

Yea I am looking as well muymalestado, and from what I have found so far it appears that Brother is coming out ahead mainly because its cartridges are cheaper. They ALL seem to have the same features and are about the same price and quality. I have had HP/Lexmark/Cannon and with a little TLC they have worked well, just the cost of the toners that still sucks.

Can anyone recomend a good colour laser printer that costs no more than ?1000. I need it to print A4 but if anyone knows of one that will also accept A3 without compromising on quality then you can let me know. I don't want the printer to be able to print 1000's of print quickly I want it to print good quality prints, even if it means it takes a bit longer.

I think if you think of home office suitable for a pro that needs a good quality printer that will be ideal for all of my needs then you have the idea. If there is one which costs a bit more then you can also add that as well, and can you also tell me why you think the printer your recomending is a good printer in your opinion.

I had a laser jet printer for many years and got sick of it as it was costing a fortune in ink even though I was hardly using it. The problem I was having was cartridges getting blocked and by time they had been cleaned the ink was running out. Even though I wasn't using it for colour printing it was still costing me on colour cartridges as they needed to be replaced in order for the printer to work.

In the end I was advised that a mono laser printer would be the best option as they use toner instead of ink and as a result they don't suffer from the same problems that inkjet printers do, and as a result the are much cheaper. I have been very happy with my Samsung mono laser printer which I bought for ?30 of amazon, and never at any point suffered from the problem of the print heads needing to be cleaned before I could print.

I am now looking at buying a colour laser printer and would just like a heads up on whether the same is true for colour laser printers that because they use toner the print heads don't need cleaning and you can then not print in either black and white or colour for many months and still not have the problems and costs that you get with inkjet printers.

Hi,

Can someone please recommend me a colour laser printer for home use? Resolution should be at least 1200 x 1200 dpi. The option to print both sides of the paper would be nice. Multiple paper trays not necessary, nor anything else that will add unnecessary bulk to its size. There should also be connection for Ethernet and USB. Preferable that it uses separate toner cartridges for the different colours, so if one colour runs out then only that colour needs changing rather than the whole lot.

Thanks.

Answer:Recommend me a laser colour printer please

You realize these are very expensive to both purchase and on a cost/page.

I'm trying to fix a printing problem with an OKI colour laser printer that has now spread to two printers.

On the first printer, the blue is misaligned with the rest of the colours. Replacing the cartridges, re-seating the cartidges and re-installing drivers has not helped.

Moving cartridges between the two identical printers to narrow down the offending component has led to the yellow now being out of alignment on the other printer.

Re-installing drivers has modified the alignment a little, but not fixed it.

Anybody have any experience with fixing this sort of problem?

This is my first post on this forum and hope someone can help me.

I purchased a Dell Inspiron 1764 last Thursday and it is running Win 7 home Premium 64bit.

A Lexmark C500 colour laser printer is hooked up to my old Dell Inspiron 6400 running XP 2005 media edition SP3.

I tried installing the printer on my new laptop through the "Add Printer" option but the printer driver for the C500 was not listed. I tried installing a driver from the CD I got with the printer but it returned a message advising was wrong OS. I then called Lexmark and was advised the C500 is not supported any longer.

Is there a driver for my printer I can install (read there is a driver for Vista 64bit) so that I don't have to go and purchase a new printer.

Im sorry to tell you pcastric, but lexmark's website shows only a 32bit Vista driver. You may want to try it just in case... as many vista drivers work under Win7. The issue here may be the 64 vs 32 bit.

I currently use an Inkjet printer and always use compatible toner cartrdges -- PrintRite branded -- as they are much cheaper and give far superior colour reproduction to Epson's own brand.I'm looking at buying a colour laser printer now the prices have fallen so much -- but, having done some calculations on the cost per page of printing with the laser, it actually costs more than the compatible ink.I have seen compatible black toners for a wide range of printers but have not been able to find any colour ones. Does anyone know if they're available or whether they're likely to be in the near future? I suspect that we might start to see them available now that colour lasers have fallen below the 300 mark...?

I doubt if anyone can answer this unless they have had direct, first hand experience. I am inclined to say yes but I would encourage you to search the net for an answer and try to see what the manufacturer has to say. If having the printer available is extremely important I would wait for an answer and confirmation before you proceed.

What's cheaper: colour laser with genuine ink or colour inkjet with compatible inks?

I'm happy to invest in buying a colour laser: but I can't find any refills for lasers
At least they don't seem to be widely available

So, my choice is: colour laser + genuine inks or colour inkjet + compatible inks

From what I know, side by side: laser's are cheaper
But, how about when compared to genuine laser ink to compatible colour inkjet inks?

I should stress that for me needs, I am not overly concerned if using compatibles doesn't give me perfect results - just close as possible is fine for me

What's more important probably is speed of print at highest quality

ANY feedback would be great

Thanks

Answer:What's cheaper: colour laser with genuine ink or colour inkjet with ink compatibles?

Finding Compatible Remanufactured Color Toner cartridges can be dicey. While they may be available, the problem may end up being the company tht does the remanufaturing. It is also dependant upon the model printer you get. I have noticed that the savings on my Black Canon X-25 toner cartridge is only about $12 lower than the cost of a Factory original cartridge. There are sites that I would save up to $30 per cartridge, but part of this is eaten up by the shipping charges. For my toner cartridge, I am about 1/2 mile from the store that does nothing but ink and toner refill services, and their garauntee thier cartridges 100%. In 3 years I have only had to return one cartridge and it was an HP #17 Color cartridge.

Now per page printing cost on a laser is much cheaper than on an inkjet. Though the printer cost itself is usually much higher for a Laser. Personally I use the laser much more than than my Inkjet, but I do use the inkjet for all color printing. But then 95% of my printing is monochrome text.

I have been very satisfied with my HP5 LaserJet (black only). With it, I didn't think much about operational costs; but, I got plain lucky and it has turned out to be one of the cheapest per page to operate.

Color lasers are not cheap to operate. So, are there any sites that have reliable data on per-page printing costs for color laser printers?

Answer:Color Laser Printer Advice Needed

The Color LJ5 is cheap to operate now, buy supplies and its under 5 cents a page, I got all the toner bottles (two pair of each), a new drum, the transfer belt (new) and a few other goodies for under $100 So around 10000+ copies (at least) for under $100 not bad if your willing to wait a little longer for a printed page

Also I bought the unit with 30k copies for $100 no shipping

As for "reliable" cost per page given for various Color LJs I would like to see that myself, nobody ever gives real costs, because as we all know, drums NEVER make it through their rated life, toner ratings are optimistic and stuff just happens.

Anyone have a site that lists the real costs of owning a color laser printer?

Cheers

Answer:COLOUR LASER - PRINTING BLACK USING COLOUR!!

That would pee me off no end. How in God's name can it use colour to create black when there's a black cartridge in there? A cheapo mono laser seems to be your ideal tool. I know nothing about colour laser printers, but is there an option anywhere in the settings to print using only the black cartridge? I've read a couple of posts already on the subject, but is anybody using a colour laser at the moment, printing around 50 sheets per week. I'm a bit concerned as most of the work I do is around 20% coverage, so would toner cartridges be consumed at an alarming rate? I'm attracted by it because I could really use the speed of them. Thanks

Answer:Colour Laser v Inkjet

A rate of 50 sheets a week doesn't fit very well with your requirement of the last sentence: "I could really use the speed of them."Good colour laser printers are expensive and if I had a requirement as small as yours claims to be, I certainly wouldn't use one. Cheap colour lasers aren't usually worth the desk space the occupy.Nearly all our colour printing is done by a number of inkjet printers. B/W printing (general office stuff) is by cheap mono lasers (which are good value).?d

I have a Samsung CLP-300N colour laser printer.I have been asked to print off a load of doubled sided pages, with average text and a small amount of red.Any idea what would be a charge that wouldn't see me out of pocket?Any advice will be thankfully received.

Answer:Cost of printing for a colour laser

Assuming you pay roughly 30 for each colour cartridge with 1000 page 5% cover and the same for black with 2000 page cover - if it were me I would charge 6p per page - hence double sided would be 12p per sheet of paper. This would cover the cost of just the toner and 80 gm paper - wear and tear, electricity and your time are other factors to take into account. Why not ask your local Staples print shop what they would charge as a guide.

I am considering buying a multi function colour laser (Print - Copy - Scan) with both duplex printing and duplex scanning. I really don't know where to start with making a good choice of make / model. This is for home use and part of the project is to scan in a couple of filing cabinets worth of A4 documents so would need it to have a reliable Automatic Document Feeder (Duplex).

Has anyone recently purchased one that they are very pleased with?

Any advice appreciated.

Hello!

This won't be particularly helpful, wait for someone else, but people say that HP hardware is very good, but the drivers and software are notorious. Dells are rebranded Lexmarks, and recommended by very, very few. Canon are supposed to be very good though....

HI chaps,
have upgraded to Windows 7, but there is no driver on OS or on HP site to get my hp 1500 colour laser up and running.
HP have responded and said tough luck we dont intend to provide one, just but a new printer,
very sustainable!
On MSoft windows 7 compatibility site, MS just say HP1500 Laser Colour = not compatible.
Anyone out there found a solution that works?

Answer:Hp1500 Colour laser and Windows 7

The last known drivers for your 1500 were for XP. There were many who went to Vista only to find out there were no Vista drivers for the printer.

Here is a solution that worked in Vista which I;m pretty sure will work for you as well. Place the CD that came with the printer in the drive. Unplug the printer from the PC, run the CD software and when it gets to the part to plug in the printer cancel it and pull the CD from the drive. Plug the printer back in and tun it on, W7 will search for the driver on the web and won't find it and then give you some options. One of these options is to load the driver from your PC, point it to where you placed the software and XP drivers and it should pick up the driver and load. Good Luck....

I have just acquired an HP colour laser jet CP1215 and am happy with it so far.Just a slight worry that when printing photos can I use the same photo paper I used with inkjets or will it somehow mess up the laser printer. I am worried that the inkjet photo paper might melt or something on the rollers when the toner is fused on to the paper.

Answer:Photo printing with a colour laser

I have an OKI colour laser. I find that if I use glossy paper the toner rubs off. It refuses to stick to the surface and with the slightest handling the image is ruined. It didn't damage the printer in any way - but proved to be a failure.I now use 160 gram injet quality super white paper and get good photo results - but not quite as good as my Epson inkjet.

A couple of days ago my OKI C5650 colour laser printer stopped working showing a warning sign "M Toner Empty".As usual - it had been warning me for a few days that I needed to order new toner - but on previous occasions the warning has displayed for 6 weeks or so before the printer was stopped due to empty toner. I was aware of the need to order new toner which I intended to do in a couple of weeks. Not having a spare cartridge - I removed the magenta toner cartridge, gave it a shake and put it back - not really expecting it to rectify the problem. To my surprise the printer sprang to life again and is still working OK a couple of hundred copies later.I have a new cartridge on order - but it will be interesting to see how long the existing one runs OK.Hence the next time a cartridge becomes "empty" I will try the same trick.

This is not colour specific as I've done test prints of solid CMYK and moved the colours round on the page and the line is still showing in the same place.Any laser printer experts out there?Could there be something stuck on the imaging unit, transfer belt etc. Thanks

Further to my post yesterday (click here) on colour laser memory, a friend has suggested that a colour laser without postscript support isn't worth having. I intend to use the printer as a personal desktop laser at home, although I do print DTP type work including photographs. Is Postscript going to be that important?!

Answer:Is Postscript support important on a colour laser?

My understanding of Postscript is that it is necessary if you intend to send documents or artwork to a commercial printer for a print run.

Hi,

My computer is working fine - but I recently purchased a new Samsung ML2570 laser printer that just died when the starter cartridge ran out of toner (or actually when the printer counter hit its predetermined set no. - probably 1000). At least I think that's what happened. The starter cartridges come without fuses. Replacement cartridges or toner refill kits come with fuses that are supposed to reset the counters, so when I refilled the starter cartridge and inserted the fuse that came with the kit, the printer still didn't work. I tried again with two more fuses, with no luck. I don't have a printer jam and all the doors are well-latched before I turn it on. Does anyone have any idea what I should do next to get my printer working again? My email is [email protected]

Regards, and thanks for any help,

Marie

I have had a Canon Pixma MP500 all in one for several years, and it is a great printer. BUT, I am really, really tired of paying for the ink. Even though I buy my ink for much less over the internet, an ink jet printer is cheap to buy, but expensive to use.

Are their any reasonably priced all in one color laser printers on the horizon that would be of good quality? For this type machine, I'm thinking under $500 would be reasonably priced, and I would seriously consider it.

Check the cost of color laser consumables, it's not unusual to find a complete set of toners get close to the printer price.

Question: laser printer

I have a problem. At work, there is a dot matrix printer that prints invoices on carbon paper, which are three layers thick, and then are signed by a client. Recently, the dot matrix printer has died, and we need a solution. My boss asked me to investigate.

He wants to know if there are any ways of printing invoices from a laser printer, but not have to print 3 seperate copies, sort of like carbon paper for a laser.

Any ideas??

Answer:laser printer

doubtful seeing as how a laser printer works. unless there is some kind of medium that transfers to a cc by heat, and be able to differentiate small incremental differences in the paper and make something legible. Think of it this way, your laser printer works by charging the paper as its fed. It then charges the drum via laser to the desired image and then the toner is added. The paper and drum are opposingly charged so when it passes through the drum the image is transfered to the charged paper and then passed through the fusing rollers and melts the toner onto the page (thats why they're somewhat warm). For carbon copies, its transfered through the old fashioned way, by impact. Thats why daisy wheel and dot matrix printers are used because of impact blows transfering the ink to the carbon copy.

Only way I could see it is by printing multiple copies.

Hello. I have a crashed Dell CPU and a HP laser printer with a damaged memory. What is the proper way to dispose of these? I'd like to do something that is environmentally sound. Is there a use/market for the parts?

Thanks.

Answer:cpu and laser printer disposal

Depending on how remote you are there should be an outlet that will take these items. There are new directives coming into force in the UK (WEEE Directive) that puts a restriction on the disposal of unwanted (primarily commercial) electrical goods. As a result small companies are cropping up who specialise in unwanted electrical goods, particularly computers.

Some charities have learned how to cannabalise computer parts and turn them into servicable systems, there may be one near you. Alternatively, contact your local authority who should give you advice of where to dispose of your parts in an environmentally friendly manner.

Good luck !

I'm looking for some options on a network laser printer for my home. Here's some general details:

1. B&W would be fine, but color laser is being considered.
2. I don't do much printing, but am looking for a reputable brand.
3. Wired network connection is required, wireless is "nice to have".
4. I'd like to have all of the machines access the printer directly, and not go use a printer share on a computer.
5. My budget is around $300, but that can be extended if there's a compelling reason.
6. Majority of the machines will be Windows, but there could be a few Linux boxes -- total machine count is six.

Post any questions or suggestions. Thanks!

My daughter had me buy a HP Color LaserJet CP1215 Printer for her husband for Christmas. Now she is being told that it needs a special plug or something to work between their computers which connect with a wireless router. One computer will be hard wired to the printer and the other computer is wireless. Won't any printer work through a networked computer whether it is wireless or hard wired? If so, is there anything special we have to do to make it work? If not, I guess it is back to the store.

Thanks for any info.

Answer:Laser Printer on Network

yes you can connect through the PC that is directly connected to the printer, if that PC is on your network, the only downside is that the PC will need to be switched on for anyone to use the printer

so on the PC with the printer connected, you need to share the printer and give it a name
then from the other PC - you set up a network printer

add a printer
then browse the network - it should see the shared printer

this should help

Answer:Why laser printer expensive?

There are alot of differences that make each unique, mostley the fact that ink-jet are primarily for home/small office. Wheras the laser is geared toward large office, speed, quality and uses toner ink instead of cartridge.here is more specific info: http://ezinearticles.com/?How-to-Differentiate-Between-Laser-Printers-and-Inkjet-Printers&id=298829

I have a Konica Minolta Magicolor 330 colour laser printer set up to run from my laptop, running XP3 Home.Has worked well for the last 6 months, but over the New Year it has gone totally colourblind !It will print black in text or graphics perfectly, but will not print any colour, from photos, mixed graphics or mixed colour text.If I convert a colour file to greyscale, it will print the greyscale OK.If I change the print setting to print B/W, it converts the colours to greyscale and prints OK.I reinstalled the printer and the latest drivers, but no change.I changed the software to an earlier version but no change.I changed the laptop to a desktop I have running 98SE, with exactly the same result - prints the black content of a file and ignores the colour content. It seems to me that the fault lies in the printer itself, although no error codes or messages are displayed.I'm familiar with the way laser printers work, but cannot think of what fault would produce this effect, so complete, for three toners not to print, but the black to do so.Most grateful for any ideas, even those not linked directly to this particular printer, but only to colour lasers in general.John

Answer:Sub £200 Laser Printer with lowest TCO

Toner is the main area where you can reduce costs. Unless you can afford a Kyocera, then toner will be about 2p a page. I got it down to about 0.5p on the EPL5500 printer, by refilling cartridges several times.I now use the EPL5900 but this newer model is 16ppm instead of only 12ppm click hereI use refill toners from here click here about 10 each instead of 70 for a new cartridge. You should get at least one refill from each new cartridge. I cannot say whether the new model is still refillable. Manx might know. The EPL6100 looks like the same design. I'm still using refills for the EPL5500 that I had before my current printer.
