Keyboard Types Wrong Characters

Question: Keyboard Types Wrong Characters

A few days ago my Sony TR3 XP SP1 portable began jumbling or mistyping characters entered from the keyboard. It does this in all text areas (Word, shortcut names, file names, messages, dialog forms, etc. The errors ae not random, for instance "5" is always substituted fo "i" - although I have not checked this from session to session. Any solutions or suggestions on how I can correct this problem, or how it might have befallen me would be helpful.
TIA, fallingrock.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Well, my computer is an Acer Aspire PC running on Windows Vista Home Premium, but when I try to type things, my keyboard will type in a completely different symbol. For example, in most programs, instead of an apostrophe, Ill get è instead, or if I want to use square brackets, Ill get ^^ç. It wont happen in Microsoft word, but it will happen when Im on the internet, or using the search function in my computer.

Here's what the Keyboard driver window keeps telling me:

Under general tab:

HID Keyboard device

Device Type: Keyboards
Manufacturer: (Standard keyboards)
Location: on User human interface USB device
Device status: This device is working properly.

Under Driver Tab:

Driver provider: Microsoft
Driver Date: 21/06/2006
Driver version: 6.0.6001.18000
Digital Signer: microsoft windows
If anyone out there could help me, It would be much appreciated! Thanks!

I am not 100% sure but I had the same sort of issue with Windows XP. My freind sorted it and it was to do with the language that the keyboard is set in. My issue was all the time though and not just certain programs.

Hi,suddenly the laptop started typing wrong words. I checked keyboard layout, it was English US. I even tried Ctrl + Shift and Alt + Shift, but nothing is happening. If I type small letters it types Capital letters, sometimes the same type numbers....if I type 1,2,3,4 it types !,@,#,$ respectively. Even though Numslock is also on.Even I tried external USB keyboard in the laptop, it is the same problem. At last, even I formatted the laptop and installed windows 7 again, same problem.

I went to Device manager and uninstalled keyboard driver and nothing; I reformatted my HDD drive and nothing; I have noticed that when I went to the BIOS and y tried to enable "FN" and I could not enable or disable; it is disable by default;
I tried FN+ F11 or F10 and I did nto work. What could it be?

Any help? Has anyone had the same problem?

Answer:Keyboard types wrong and weird characters on Tecra A2

sounds like a serious hardware problem. You can try the following to check if just the internal keyboard is making some trouble or your machine is malfunctioning: just connect a external keyboard (ps2 or usb) and check if you got the same error.

But nowadays you should bring your machine to a local authorized service partner for a hardware checkup because I think that your keyboard is defective and the hardware components of your machine should be checked.

Here?s a link to find the nearest local service point:

I've seen this problem occasionally both on Vista and now on Windows 7 (64-bit) - now and then when I type on the keyboard I get garbage characters on the screen. The characters seem to appear in ASCII-code order, for example if I type 'http' I might see '1234' or some other 4-character sequence, in order. This has happened in Thunderbird, and goes away after a while. It isn't specific to Thunderbird, if I'm in the 'garbage character' mode and open a Notepad window, for example, it will also display incorrect characters. After closing a few things and re-opening, it eventually clears up (I'm not sure about the exact sequence that corrects it). I've searched this forum and other places but not seen any references to a similar problem. Any ideas would be welcome!

My keyboard produces weird characters on a row. Some of the keys even trigger programs to open; like, calculator or outlook and it did happen that the system was hibernating willest pressing a 'k (If i'm correct)'.
After some experimenting I saw that each character I pressed produces 4 to 5 different strings, like Lh{$3, 3:fo or things similar.

Anybody any ideas?

When I launch windows 7 on sony vaio I type password and it tells me it is incorrect (it is not) I can only get into the computer by clicking on a different user who has no password. When I am logged in as this user I start typing a web address into address bar of browser and extra characters get added. So if I type www. it comes up wwddw or something like that. This happens for a few minutes and then stops. Then I can switch users and login using the correct I think that the password isn't actually the issue but the keyboard is adding extra characters to make the password seem incorrect?Or maybe there are two problems?

Answer:on start up keyboard types extra characters

Was there a spill into the keyboard? If so the keyboard will need replaced. I have seen less than 5% of keyboards cleanup and never have problems later. With or without a spill the keyboard can fail. The cure is the same, get a replacement.Your password problem is that extra characters are being added and that is why you are unable to login to the passworded account. For laptops a quick test is to connect a USB desktop keyboard and try to use it.Rich

Hello All,

I have a very odd issue here.. I have a fairly inexpensive ($15?) Rosewill chiclet keyboard that I absolutely love. I spilled coffee on it so I quickly unplugged it used a blow dryer on it with cool air. I then let is air dry outside on a sunny day and when I was certain it was dried out I tried it. It's perfect, no issues. That is, until recently it started doing weird things such as pressing L makes the computer think I'm pressing 3, K thinks it's 6, etc etc.

Now when I quickly unplug the keyboard and plug it back into the USB it comes back to functioning properly. Rebooting also resolves this. But usually once to 4+ times a day it does this. I play battlefield 4, so it becomes very apparent that the keyboard is acting up when you press L to chat with your squad and it doesn't bring up the chat screen.

Anyway, here are some things I've tried:

1- Numlock is off
2- Different USB Port
3- Checked my region settings

Now, I assumed like I am sure a lot of you are that "it must be the keyboard is shorted out in some way from the coffee". Well it's a cheap enough keyboard that I love enough, so I bought a new one! Same thing keeps happening! I try it on my other computer and neither keyboard seems to have this issue repeat. I am not sure if it's just coincidence or not, but it all started after I spilled the coffee.. I should note that none of my other USB devices are suffering from any weird glitches, at least none that... Read more

Hi - I'm using Vista Business.

When using an office program, certain characters do not show up correctly. For instance the '@' symbol (shift+2) shows up as quotes.

Here's the strange part. I can type normally in notepad. This suggests that there's a setting in Office??

In either case, I tried changing Vista's language settings by right clicking the taskbar -> toolbars but the 'languages' toolbar does not appear. In other words, i don't have any other languages installed.

Anyone have any ideas how to fix this? Any help would be appreciated!

Answer:Wrong Keyboard Characters

Shift+2 for quotes is UK (maybe others)

I have just had a look in Excel and you can change the language for office (excel in this case)

Excel options --> Popular Tab --> Language settings --> Primary editing Language

Hello- After repairing my screen, Averatec returned my 5110P.Upon
return it has a keyboard problem. Averatec tells me that even though
the warranty ran out while in thier possession they cannot help me.

Here is the problem-

u types j
\ types nothing
d types x
f types nothing
g types v
j types u
x types f
v types g

Here are my attempted fixes-

1. NUM lock is off
2. HKEY_USERS/Default/Control panel/Keyboard has proper values
3. Updated drivers
4. Deleted/reinstalled drivers
5. Completly reinstalled OS (xp Pro) with start up disks

My Keyboard properties reads:

Japanese PS/2 Keyboard (106/109 Key)
Device type: Keyboards
Manufacturer: (Standard Keyboards)
Location: Plugged into Keyboard

If I go to Start/All Programs/Accessories/Accessibility/On-Screen
Keyboard, the on-screen keyboard types properly

The physical keyboard types the same whether in DOS or windows

I don't have an external keyboard, so I haven't tried that yet.

I believe the "Japanese" refers to manufacturer and not Language
because, I belive I have seen that keyboard for sale in systems that
are targeting english consumers.

I would greatly appreciate any suggestions. Thanks much,

Answer:[SOLVED] keyboard wrong characters

Either you are in a Non-US English location and have the US layout, or vice-versa
US Shift+2 is @
UK Shift+2 is "

Control Panel | Language and Regional Options
On Regional tab, select the correct language for your location.
Click the Languages tab, then click the Details... button
Select the correct Default input language. This should also install the correct keyboard
Under Installed services, if the incorrect keyboard is shown, click the Add... button
Select the language and layout, and click OK
You can remove the other keyboard if needed. Helps to keep it from getting switched back accidentally.

Hey, i run XP and am having an issue with my keyboard not inputting the correct character on certain keys when shift is held down. This same thing happens when i use either keyboard a basic PS/2 and a USB Steelseries Merc Stealth which i install drivers for.
Some examples of the problem are pressing shift + 2[top row] should input " but inputs @ : Shift + 3 should input pound sign but instead inputs # : shift + @ should input @ but instead inputs "
I have tried removing all my drivers through divice manager and rebooting letting xp reinstall ect, removing all my usb keyboard drivers and software and reinstalling ect still the same issue with both keyboards, exactly. At first i thought that because i am based in the UK and my USB keyboard is from the US that was the issue but its the same problem with my standard PS/2 keyboard which got me thinking that it can only be somthing related to XP or some settings in XP.

On Task Bar where it say EN, right click and Settings
(if not there, Control Panel - Region and Language - Keyboards and Languages - Change Keyboards)

Change Default input language above to new language you have added

Hi there,

I was working on a paper on my desktop when suddenly my e button and 5 button lost proper functionality.
Whenever I press the "e" button, it types 1e instead, and pressing the "5" button types y5. Holding either button down gives you 1eeeeeeeeeeeeeeee or y5555555555555, but pressing them repeatedly gives 1e1e1e or y5y5y5 for example.
This does not happen when I use the on-screen keyboard, as then e and 5 type normally by pressing the buttons with my mouse. I looked into language options and nothing has changed; I only have the US Keyboard. This typing happens in Windows Word, in Chrome, in start search and even command prompt. Also have Kaspersky running and I don't seem to have a virus. I have no idea why this suddenly started happening, but I'd like it go away ASAP so I can write my paper instead of it looking like som1ething lik1e this.

Any help would be appreciated!
EDIT: Okay, the problem went away by restarting my computer. But in case anybody knows why this happened, and to prevent it in the future, I'm sure people would like to know the answer (if there is one).

I have an HP EliteBook8570p for several years. It has a full qwerty keyboard plus a separate number keyboard on the right of the qwerty keyboard. Just this week the keyboard function changed. Normally pressing the Number lock key (when lit) caused the number keyboard to type numbers instead of the direction arrows and home/end/pg up/ pg dn functions when the num lk was off. This was fine and it worked like this since new. Now pressing the Number lock key causes keys on the qwerty keyboard to type numbers. The u,I,o,j,k,l keys now type 4,5,6,1,2,3. It was not like this before.I was always able to type letters on the qwerty keyboard and numbers on the smaller number keyboard while the num lk key was selected and its light was on.I compared drivers and keyboard setting to another identical computer and they are the same. The other computer works the way I describe at the start. Also Function/Prnt Screen no longer copies the screen.Any ideas? Any help? Please and thank you

I have an Acer Chromebook and recently spilled some water on it. In my panic, I quickly wiped down the keyboard and all was still well and working. I noticed then that whenever I tried to type anything, completely different letters or numbers or random symbols would show up. I'm guessing that as I wiped down the keys and pressed them down at once, it did something to change the keyboard. And to add to this problem, I can't even sign into my laptop as it's password protected, and I can't type my password in correctly. Is this something that I can fix myself easily?

Hi linscrawf,
Here is an article with 2 ways of performing a powerwash before signing into Chrome.
This should reset the device (removing any unsaved data) and any potential settings or key combo's that you may have it.
It still requires some keystrokes, but they shouldn't also intiate other keystrokes. If they are, or after performing the powerwash you still have this issue it would likely indicate that the liquid spill is affecting the circuity below and multiple keystrokes are being detected.
I hope this helps,Cory

Hi all,

I am having serious problems with my keyboards. when I press some letters like 'g b y t a' its generates wierd codes.

g = Dg GH`B'GN#
a = AS
y = YUI
b = NMB,N

these keep changing all the time, sometimes it just generates unending code and I have to hold down the backspace key for it to stop.

I have changed my keyboard from the original one that had a serial port to a new USB type but this has not solved the problem. Now I have both plugged in and have to use both to type as the keys that work on one do not work on the other.

I have started my computer in safe mode and done a full virus check, using mcafee and avg, i have even used housecall which is an online antivirus but this has not solved the problem.

I have changed my regional setting from UK to Us and back but this does not solve the problem.

I got remapping software anthis shows that all the keys are mapped correctly.

I have downloaded every microsoft patch but still with no joy.

I need some help please. frustrating typing with two key boards. appologies for gramatical errors, I just want to send this.

Answer:Keyboard, characters mixed up and wrong code generation

The 2 areas that affect keyboard mapping are;

Keyboard settings are in Control Panel-> Keyboard
Language settings are in Control Panel-> Regional and Language Options

Use only one keyboard at a time - a stuck key will/may cause both to appear errant.

A System Restore is also a possibility if this event had been recent.

Keyboard "unlocks" and wrong characters are typed using QWERTY layout. Have tried changing language options with some short term success.

However languages changes quickly become "unlocked".
How do I fix this problem?

Advice please.
Thanks, Mike

Answer:Tecra A9 - Keyboard "unlocks" and wrong characters are typed

To be honest I have no idea what you are talking about.
If your keyboard layout does not match with the keyboard language, then you should change this and should add new language.

In such case you will be able to switch between languages using the shortcuts SHIFT+ALT

Of course you can also delete the other languages. In such case the SHIFT+ALT will not functions.

When I try and type into Internet Explorer (or Google Chrome and Firefox) I don?t get the letter or symbol that I type.
For instance when I typed ?a? I got ?r? on screen and similarly ?w? gave ?t? and ?m? gave ?y?.
I then typed ?a? again and got ?u? on screen. When I kept
hitting ?a? I got ?u, I, o, [? which is of course part of a progression along a querty keyboard!
When I type into a ?Word? document the problem does not occur nor does it when I type into an email.
Things that I have tried:

I have run a full scan of my anti-virus software, Zone Alarm (which is up to date.)I have scanned with Spybot, which found a whole load of things that I treated.I have scanned with Malwarebytes but it did not pick up anything.I have run my registry software ?Regzooka?
None of these actions have cured the problem. What can I do to correct this?
I have Windows 7 with all of the latest updates downloaded.
IE version 11.0.9600.17041. Update version 11.0.7

Answer:Keyboard types all the wrong letters etc. in Internet Explorer and other browsers

1. close all open IE Windows.
2. Start>Programs>Accessories>system tools>Internet Explorer (noaddons)
this will start IE in noAddons....
If the problem disappears when running in no addons mode then it is being caused by one or more of your addons...since your other browsers are affected it is probably being caused by an addon that is common to all of your browsers...
Use the Tools>Manage Addons menu from IE to disable your Toolbar and BHO addons one at a time (restarting IE each time to see if disabling an addon fixes the issue)
Start>Control Panel>Action Center>Internet - will list any known malware or incompatible addons.
Start>Control Panel>Internet Options>Advanced tab, uncheck "enable third-party browser extensions".... restart IE for the full changes to take effect.
Start>Windows Update...... examine your optional updates lists for any driver updates (for your keyboard) and apply and install them.
You have a number of anti-virus programs installed on your computer...
You only need one.... having multiple av products installed will slow your computer and may cause errors....
Spybot S&D is not suitable for Win7 and higher... it uses black lists for url's and slows down the web browser considerable.
The AV products that you have installed are probably free versions, that do not have up-to-date malware lists... Consider purchasing a license from the AV vendor or

Any help to correct this problem would be appreciated.
I don't know if this is a hardware issue or a software issue. Whenever I press certain letters I get a numeric stroke. For example:

The only reason I'm able to type this is because I've connected another keyboard up to the laptop.

Answer:Solved: Fujitsu laptop keyboard showing wrong characters

Most likely you have some kind of number lock feature on. It's so you can use the letters as you would a number pad on a standard keyboard.

Try to find a key on your keyboard labeled "Num Lock" and press it (you may have to hold down something like an "Fn" key while pushing the Num Lock button).

Hi everyone, my laptop's keyboard recently started behaving oddly, e.g. when I try to type the letter 'p' a '*' appears. Same also true for the '/' key, when I press it a '+' appears.

This is probably something very simple, but I can't figure out what I've done. Numlock is off, stick keys are off and the language is set to my own. I'm using Windows 7 and it's a Sony Vaio laptop.

Many thanks in advance 😊

Answer:Keyboard on Sony Vaio laptop types the wrong symbol/letter etc.

Hold down the FN key and press Numlock key.
If this just started happening, then do a system restore to a time before this happened. You can also use an external USB Keyboard or the on screen keyboard and see if that has the same effect,
You can also go to the Sony Vaio drivers page Sony eSupport - Drivers & Software Updates - Select a Model and download the updated Touchpad and Chipset driver for your model.

I have the Gateway NE56R12u 15.6-Inch Laptop
OS: Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit SP1

A few drops of water was spilled onto my keyboard (I don't think the water got down into the laptop... as far as I could tell the water landed on top of the keys, but I could be wrong) and when I went to clean it, I didn't think ahead and turn it off before cleaning up the spill. So many keys were pressed and now the keyboard is not functioning correctly. When I press the majority of the keys, they will either add other letters/symbols, or they will trigger Windows shortcuts.

As an example..
B = "B (it also brings up the right click menu) (this will also bring up this: € symbol as well as times)
O = 7i7o0
L = *L{YK

M = HM

k= yk*

j = brings up googlechrome downloads

i = takes curser to the start of the text

The space key types b ' and brings up the right click menu.

7 brings up the "open file" shortcut

and so on

Some keys are working properly: a c d e f g q r s t v w x z

I browsed google a little to see if anyone else has had this problem. A big fix was pressing the FN button and the NumLock at the same time. That didn't work. Which, I doubted it would since my laptop has a full keyboard.

Is it possible that it's stuck on some sort of sticky keys or toggle keys setting?

It appears my Fujitsu laptop has been infected by a virus that starts typing characters (into emails, documents, search and website areas), and rapidly scrolls through my emails, preventing me from selecting one. It also periodically copies deleted files and adds them back to my laptop. I have run Malware, CA and Superantivirus programs (quick and complete scan) and they haven't detected anything. I've rebooted a zillion times, and for now everything seems ok, and I'm able to type without interruption but it pops up again. Please direct me. Thanks

Hi, I bought a Lenovo Essential G580 on 15th May 2013. Everything was working perfectly until yesterday when my keyboard started to type random characters. I had just put my laptop to sleep on the night of 20th July 2013 and when I switched on the laptop on the evening of 21st July 2013 the keyboard started typing random stuff. There has been no spillage on the laptop as its safely covered on my table and I am the only one living in my room. Also to make sure its not because of a software glitch, I tried the following: 1. Restarted the system multiple times2. Went to an earlier System restore point. (Tried 5 different one's)3. Refreshed the system4. Took a backup and Formatted the whole hard disk and reinstalled Windows.5. Switched off the laptop for the night and tried switching it on today morning. None of the above helped. So obviously it is not a software problem. (FYI: The Onscreen Keyboard just works fine) A few example stuff which I get when I press the keys: CAPS Lock: WX (When I press Caps lock key it types WX along with it so the pattern goes like this: WXwxWXwxWXwx and so on if you keep pressing caps lock)q: When I press q its types a tab with qwm: its types yum instead of mw: works like caps lock key. I bought this awesome, lovely and exquisite piece of technology innovation in August 2014.I have come to India and everyone loves it.Everything was fine until the last Saturday morning when I was typing an email. I got on a phone call for a while and it went in sleep mode. Pretty normal. I concluded the call and touched the space bar expecting the normal, quick wake up and the login screen. The login screen came up alright, but the password box was already filled. I tried to use backspace to clear the box and I missed a heartbeat! Nothing seemed to happen. So I force shut it holding the power button and after a minute bring it up again. Same scene! This has continued. I am going to be in India for a few months. So I checked with Lenovo service centers calling them. And I learn this model is not supported in India. My warrantee is valid, but of no use!I go to a local dealer, to no avail. I have lost my primary way of communication. Difficult to live this way. Right? SO I buy a toolset (expensive!), open the back cover and disconnect the keyboard cable. I put the cover back and start using it as a tablet only.It is serving me for now, but cant do this for long. What may be wrong? My friend is travelling to the US (San Jose) in a couple of weeks. Answer:Yoga 2 Pro Keyboard continuously floods characters in the keyboard buffer

I have this same problem but with my Y510p. It floods the 'Q' character.
The only solution which seems possible is a keyboard replacement (unless the connecting port is damaged, which is highly unlikely). I have ordered a keyboard and it is on the way.
As for your scenario, I would say that if you friend is going to be in US for more than 2 months then it is fine to send it with him for repairs. You could also order a keyboard online and replace it yourself (I ordered on ebay).
Check your manual on lenovo website for supported keyboard part number.
Tip -
To disable a malfunctioning keyboard like yours, you can either disconnect it physically (like you did)
You can go into Control Panel > Device Manager > Keyboards
Select the laptop keyboard and manually install a wrong keyboard driver.
This way the keyboard wont be recognized and wont work.

I recently reinstalled Windows XP after reformatting my HDD [new mobo, etc.], I kinda rushed the installation. I left the language and regional settings as English (US) [I'm English (UK)], I've went into Language and Regional Settings in Control Panel and made the amendments for both drop-down boxes, restarted my PC, and checked the settings again. They seem OK ["English (United Kingdom)" and "United Kingdom"] in Control Panel, but it's still treating the keyboard as English-US. I get @ for " and vice versa... Any ideas on this? Did you install the special drivers for the motherboard, bios and others that come on a separate disk? If not then go to either the manufacturers web site or the motherboards web site and download them and run them and after they are installed reboot the computer.

If this does not work try this:

You might have to remove the hard drive from this computer and install it in another computer as a slave drive and after it is able to be accessed by Windows on that computer you will have to manually backup all of your important data that you have to another media like CD-R's, DVD or Thumb drive. Then when this is done return it to the original computer as a master drive on the primary IDE cable and do the following:

Wrong characters have just sprouted in some places. Things like é instead of ?, for instance.

I've spotted them in two places only : comments included in Properties of Macrium Reflect backup files, and one blog I follow regularly through Firefox.

That's the reason I suspect it's Windows-related and not a Macrium problem. It happened suddenly with no obvious trigger beforehand. It's the sort of bad transcription which often happens in emails.

Now the same blog displays correctly again. Any ideas ?

I had installed a program to convert some video files to a type I can play with an xbox.
After I downloaded the program I noticed a bunch of the icons on my desktop were now this:
I immediately uninstalled the program and ran virus scans.
The virus scans showed nothing and uninstalling the program did not fix it.

It is affecting rtf and iso files that I am aware of.
I changed the rtf default program and the icons switched over to the new program.
But when switched back to the program I wanted, it was back to this icon.
Editing to add: The files still open just fine in the program I have set for them and everything.

I made a txt file and changed it to the default program I use for rtfs and it showed the proper icon just fine.
So the issue is definitely linked to the file extension.

Does anyone know how to fix this?

For some reason my file types for MP3 which are associated with Winamp, have the icon for Nero Show Time... Doesn't matter what I do, I can't seem to get the icon to switch to a Winamp icon in my music folder. I can switch the icon in Options and File Types to the winamp icon, but when I go to my music folder the icon is still for Nero Show Time. Even after I reboot it's still the same.

This happened today after I updated Nero, before this things were fine.

Some things I tried...

If I click restore in Options and File Types it will restore and still be associated with Winamp, but the icon will change to the Nero Show Time icon. So it seems that the Nero Show Time icon is default, but the default player is Winamp..

I went to the Nero Show Time settings, but I can't seem to find any file type settings.

I cleaning the registry and rebooted...

I deleted the MP3 file type and set it up again..

Still no luck, any suggestions?

Hi Everyone,

I am using a Windows 7 x64 computer and several keys on my keyboard are misbehaving. When I press the tilde (~), at (@) or hash (#) keys I see different characters.

The characters that I am seeing are as follows -

Initially I installed a Microsoft USB Keyboard, and when I did so some software - in the style of Windows 8 - was installed. As I suspected that the Windows 8 "style" software may be at fault I uninstalled it (however there was no improvement). I then tried a Logitech USB keyboard with the same outcome, and finally tried a Microsoft PS2 keyboard.

Having tried 3 different keyboards with the same effect I am convinced that the issue is with the computer itself.

If anybody has any suggestions on how to fix this they will be greatly appreciated.

Kind Regards,

Hello everybody,

I found that my XP (English version) is not able to put non-English characters in correct order, so that my Thai dictionary doesn't work properly.

Here are some details.

In Thai language, some vowels are on the left side of consonant, but when ordering those words with vowels on the left side, we don't consider the vowel is the first character, but XP does. I need to introduce 3 Thai characters in order to illustrate this problem more clearly.

ก is the first consonant in Thai language, ข is the second, ไ is a vowel which is on the left side of consonant, such as ไก and ไข. Now we put these 2 consonants and 2 words in proper order, it's supposed to be 1.ก 2.ไก 3.ข 4.ไข, but what XP does is 1.ไก 2.ไข 3.ก 4.ข

Is the any solution for this? Thanks in advance.

P.S. In the shop where I bought that dictionary, it works pretty well, but I didn't notice what system is was.

Answer:Some special characters coming out wrong on my computer

Seems like you have a different language keyboard set as the default. See here:
Or change it in the Control Panel. You may want to remove any other languages that you don't use and you should reboot.

Hi! I'm using Win7 in portuguese (pt-PT) and the calculator has some some keys with strange symbols in them. So, instead of the backspace arrow, there's a rectangle, and the "x" was replaced by a square. In scientific mode it's even worse.

I've already restored windows fonts through the control panel. I've renamed the calc.exe.mui and nothing. I've even tried downloading an english version posted in these forums, but it didn't work. Even the language remained the same.

Any thoughts on this?

Thanks in advance.

Answer:Calculator displaying wrong characters in keys.

i see the difference.
did you make any changes to your computer recently? you could try a System Restore to a date that you did.

Hi all!

I've just recently began to use the jump lists more and more. In general they work fine but I use VectorWorks and I imported a .pdf into the application. Now the jump list only displays that imported .pdf but not the .vwx files native to that application. I'm pretty sure the jump list worked correctly before the import, but since I've come to rely on them just recently, I can't be a 100% on this.

How could I fix this and make the jump lists display the correct types of files? Just opening a native files with VW doesn't work as they do not become "recent files". I'm at loss here.

Thanks for reading this.

Answer:Jump lists show wrong file types?

Hi, try this, Type in associate Into the StartMenu Search and go to Associate a file type and see if you can do it from there.

Hello guys, My oldies notebook Satellite Pro 410 CDT, with BIOS updated to v6.20, which I am trying to install as SO w98se. I have a few problems that I do not manage to solve:

1. I have formatted a HDD of 4.3 GB of a libretto 70 CT, in two partitions one of 814 Mb and other one with the rest. In the partition D, the major one I have copied all the drivers of 410 as well as w98se to proceed to his installation. These options I did it in the tower Pc with Partion Magic and the explorer of Windows XP.

Reinstalled the HDD in 410 CDT, the screen shows me the following message:

However much I have looked in manual there is not done any reference to this message, can they say to me that it happens?.

2. When I format the HDD in another Pc I must reserve an empty space in in order that it is a system do his copies in way of hibernation?. That is to say, in the Libretto 70 and 100, they save themselves 32 MB at the end of the HDD. All that I owe resevar for 410 cdt and in that place?.

3. When I start the portable one with a bootdisk of windows 98 without ramdisk, which allows me to load the most basic thing in MSDOS, I verify that the keyboard does not act as owes, that is to say, some keys they show on screen characters that do not correspond to them, others prove to be two or three simultaneously, others do not do anything supporting the fixed cursor, for example, if tou... Answer:Broken keyborad on Satellite Pro 410cdt? Wrong characters are shown

I?m not 100% about the point one because I have never seen such error message but I have investigated in the internet and somewhere has suggested that such error can appears because the booting partition was not activated or not active.

2.) I don?t think that you need to reserve any place on the HDD for the hibernation mode. In the hibernation mode all data and settings are saved to the local file. It?s a part of the OS.

3.) For me it?s not easy to say if the keyboard is wrong or only the software environment cannot detect the functionality of the keyboard buttons properly. To be sure if the keyboard works properly you should test it in the Windows OS

A client using a billing and inventory program that I wrote for him a number of years ago, is having some problems since
upgrading from Windows XP to Windows 7 Home Premium.

The main problem now is that when printing his quotes and invoices, Windows is using the wrong character set.
Instead of getting single and double line boxes and frames, it is printing completely different characters.

They are all graphics characters above 128 ASCII commonly used for both screen and print in DOS programs.
There is no problem with screen display of the same characters.

Isn't there a way to make it use the intended character set when printing?
I don't have Windows 7, so I can't do any testing on my own equipment.

Don't bother with suggestions of 'a different program'.
This is a custom application that he paid $$$ for and I spent hundreds of hours developing.

Answer:Windows 7 prints wrong graphics characters from a DOS database program

Not unless you can find a printer that allows IBM Character set, such as a LaserJet. I would suggest moving them into something like QuickBooks, or design the program to run in Access, if you want full use of the printer. BTW, there is no such thing as DOS anymore. DOS died with the end of Win98 & Win NT.

Something that I'm simply stumped on...

Disk types (CD+RW, CD+R, CD-R, CD-RW, DVD+R, DVD+RW), drive types, and format types(different versions of UDF, mastered, etc).

I thought I had the basic gist of it, until I was trying to get a driver onto a disk to use in an old 98 machine. I simply could not understand it.

All of the different disk types, format types, what's compatable with what... Even when I see charts like the one in Windows Vista's Help and Support page, I'm still confused.

Is there any website or someone here that can spell everything out? All the differences between format types, all of this write once business, or write to more than once but can't erase, or only format once, all that stuff that doesn't ever seem to be the case when you actually go to burning files and formatting?

Answer:disk types, format types and drive types

The HowStuffWorks website is fairly good for this, example on CDs

Main Computers page

But quickly and as simple as possible off top of head.

CDR or DVDR disks allow you to write once on these with no erase, however if you format one of these disks to UDF ( drag and drop ) by formatting them as such, you can write data to them, then at later date add more data, and add more data, until the disk is full, if you finalise any CDR/DVDR you cannot add more data to them as they are locked.

CDRW or DVDRW disks allow you to write and erase data many times.

I got a new computer last week and from the beginning thought it was set up for US qwerty but seems to have been set up with dvorak.

I went into change keyboards and languages and changed and thought for whole computer (fixed at first for admin, but didn't work for passwords and general - but finally got them fixed with copy current settings) and then after 6 days in the middle of emailing someone from a general account it switched again and passwords, etc. - but said it was US and couldn't access other accounts and had to make all new accounts.

Any way of preventing this again and making sure it stays US? I don't know the keyboard for dvorak and this time it didn't even say it but looked like the same gibberish.

Thank you.
