Dell Latitude "battery not installed" preventing BIOS update

Question: Dell Latitude "battery not installed" preventing BIOS update

Good Evening All,

I having a problem with my Dell Latitude D610.

I went to update the BIOS and it said that the battery is not installed despite the laptop running solely off of battery power!

I have ran the dell device diagnostic and device manager and no issue appears to be with the battery. When you check the battery info in the BIOS settings it says the batteries are not installed and also when you log into XP it constantly says running off of AC power even when its not plugged in!

Any one got any ideas what could be causing this and how it can be solved?

Thanks Nick

Preferred Solution: Dell Latitude "battery not installed" preventing BIOS update

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Dell Latitude "battery not installed" preventing BIOS update

It may be referring to the CMOS battery which is wired to the computer beneath the keyboard. The battery can be replaced for $8.95 to $29.95 depending on where you purchase...

But regardless, you do have a problem that must be resolved. The D610 has been one strange little irrelevant problem after another... but you cannot afford to irritate it and have that mysterious unremovable password appear as it has on so many D610 and D620 Dells.

When trying to use Windows Update, the updates download successfully but fail to install. The following message appears: "Problem: A problem on your computer is preventing updates from being downloaded or installed." I have turned my antivirus software off, I have tried updating manually, I have tried updating one at a time. Nothing seems to work. I now have a backlog of 13 updates that I'm supposed to install. Can anyone please help? THANKS!

Answer:Windows Update: "problem on your computer is preventing updates from being installed"

Boot into "Safe Mode with Networking" (restart while tapping F8 repeatedly) and see if you can install the updates. This should work.

I have a Dell Latitude that was working fine until recently when all of a sudden the battery light started blinking orange and the battery would no longer charge. It says it's "plugged in, not charging"  and I've tried to shut down-disconnect the adapter-remove battery-reconnect the charger-turn on-uninstall the Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery-shut down-insert battery-turn on, but nothing has worked so far. Also, when I turn on the laptop, it turns on and off a couple of times before starting fully.
I tried to use a different battery, which shows a white light but still doesn't charge. Not sure what happened since it was working fine before.

Need the aforementioned drivers.  I have installed virtually every driver available in the Driver download page inc Control Vault and cannot get the two driver mentioned.

Any help would be appriciated

Answer:Need drivers for Dell Latitude E6520 "Broadcom USH" & "Mass Storage Controller" Windows 7 64 Bit

Check under Security for the Broadcom Unified Security Hub (USH - probably a print/biometric reader) for the device that best matches your hardware:
www.dell.com/.../latitude-e6520
The other "mass storage controller" ... go to Device Manager, right-click the device in question, Properties, Details tab, change dropdown to Hardware Ids and give me the the VEN and DEV ID's (do the same for the above USH device if the driver linked does not work).

To whom it may concern,
I would like to set my default to my Bluetooth headset for meetings.  FYI-I currently have a microphone issue and it doesn't work.   I am thinking if I can default to my Bluetooth, then I can by pass the laptop's microphone issue and still have meetings via webex or Google hangouts for example.
I am able to "connect" the computer and LG HBS760 successful.
However, can't seem to tell the computer to recognize the blue tooth as it sends the sound the computer fine (not the Bluetooth), however, the audience cannot hear me talk back because of the microphone issue.  Hence... trying to swap the default sound to the Bluetooth.
My Troubleshooting steps...
1) I went to control panel, then "Sound", then "Playback" ... and nothing was listed.  According to the LG Bluetooth help... it said I should see several things displayed, included a "Bluetooth Headset" option... then I should be able to click it as the "default device".
Please advise me :)

Stephanie

Answer:my Dell Latitude EE6530 - I would like to set my "Sound" "default" to my Bluetooth headset for meetings

DaveSteph11 I went to control panel, then "Sound", then "Playback" ... and nothing was listed.  According to the LG Bluetooth help... it said I should see several things displayed, included a "Bluetooth Headset" option... then I should be able to click it as the "default device".
Hello. Even though a headset seems like a single device, to Windows it is 2 separate devices: a playback device (headphones), and a recording device (microphone). So for the mic to become active, you have to go to the Recording tab and make the Bluetooth device the default.
DaveSteph11I am able to "connect" the computer and LG HBS760 successful.
But if you do not see your Bluetooth microphone in the list of recording devices, then the headset still is not paired or connected correctly. That is a radio issue outside my area which is audio, so someone else will have to help with that.
When you reply back you should say which variety of Windows is on the laptop. Dell supplies Bluetooth drivers for every Windows from XP through 8 on the Latitude E6530, so if 8.1 or 10 is your operating system it could be the cause of some issues.

Hello everyone. after my last "dell update" ive had some SERIOUS issues with the battery.. i can charge it to 100% shut down the screen lid, and its discharged next morning when i wake up.

i live in Denmark, and the warratny rules are propably different here in other countries, but here we can call the sales place, and open up a warranty case, here at dell it seems that we are FORCED to go through a lot of different steps before being able to open up a warranty case. isnt there any way to avoid all those "trouble shotting" with AI bots they have hired to filter out the customer's wanting to open up a warranty case

i have paid for premium support, but when i called the last night they wanted me to call back, but for whatever reason it was, i dont know
I now have a spacebar that is squeaky, a battery that is discharging, and a monitor that randomly starts blinking. oh yeah and if you have the dell sound software turned on and you try to dim the light on the monitor by using FN+ F11 or 12 you get a lot of statis noise in the speakers.

Pls can someone help me, and the regular warranty is about to run out in 17 days, and i want this resolved asap. I am afraid that dell might postpone this to make the warranty run out :(
im new to using Dell services and dell forum's but it seem like a very big job to open up a simple warranty case

I have a Dell OptiPlex GX110 that produces the message "F1 to retry, F2 to Enter Setup" every few boots intermittently. I looked up a few websites and they said that the BIOS battery may have died.

I replaced the battery CR2032 with a new battery and thought that all was going well until on about the tenth boot (a cold boot), the dreaded "F1 to retry, F2 to Enter Setup" message came up again.

I've ruled out the battery so what am I looked at replacing the BIOS chip or the board or what. I only have BIOS version A05, will upgrading to A09 help - I dont see how it should.
There have been no hardware changes at all by the way.

thanks,

Ok heres the deal.
I crashed my system and have done a clean install. I couldn't find my winxp pro disk so I barrowed my friends. His has SP2 on it. I then found out after installing it, that it wouldn't work with my product key. So i had to go searching for my disk. Thankfully I found it, and did a windows repair to reinstall the system with the new disk.
My disk didn't have SP2 on it.

So I go to windows update to do updates and it trys to install like 80 something updates and everytime it comes back with ": A problem on your computer is preventing updates from being downloaded or installed "

I have a feeling that it thinks SP2 is on my system. is there a way to resolve this without having to do another clean install?

John

Answer:"A problem on your computer is preventing updates from being downloaded or installed"

Hello and Welcome to TSF

Why wouldn't it work with your product key?
It is better to install with SP2 incorporated onto the cd, saves a lot of time. SP2 should have been eliminated while performing the repair install.

You could try the following but you need SP2 installed before installing the updates, the site should have recognized it was not installed. If the following does not help then I suggest you Slipstream Windows XP Service Pack 2 and Create Bootable CD and do a clean install using the proper software

Try re-registering the windows update components. This may help fix a corrupt installer

1. Click on Start and Run,
2. Type "REGSVR32 WUAPI.DLL" (without quotation marks) and press Enter.
3. Should get the message "DllRegisterServer in WUAPI.DLL succeeded" Click OK.
4. Repeat above for each of the following:

REGSVR32 WUAUENG1.DLL
REGSVR32 ATL.DLL
REGSVR32 WUPS2.DLL
REGSVR32 WUCLTUI.DLL
REGSVR32 WUPS.DLL
REGSVR32 WUWEB.DLL
REGSVR32 WUAUENG.DLL

5. Reboot

Answer:dell xps studio 435t update bios " no support this board"

Always include the version of Windows in your posts.
What version of BIOS do you have now? The latest version is A16 which is from 2011:
www.dell.com/.../DriversDetails
Why do you want to update BIOS?  Keep in mind there's always a chance that a BIOS update will fail and brick your motherboard. So there needs to be a good reason to update BIOS.
Are you trying to run the update from a DOS-bootable USB stick or from inside Windows?
How much free space is available on the hard drive?

Hello!I have 2 problems that have happened before and after wiping the laptop and reinstalling W10 they go away. But when the battery runs out they come back after recharging.
Originally this machine was running 8.1 and these issues were not present.I've gone into F5 and run the Pre-boot System Assessment and everything says it's fine? Confusing.
1. When booting up I get the message "Alert! The AC power adapter wattage and type cannot be determined. The battery may not charge. The system will adjust the performance to match the power available."

I select F2, go to Battery Information and the AC Adapter = Unknown.
The little light on my adapter is a solid white so it is in fact charging.

2. If I select F1 and go into the laptop ignoring the adapter warning the mouse pad does not work.

I've uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers and still have the same problem.
I've also checked to see if it's locked, it's not.
I've tried plugging in a mouse and it doesn't work either, only touch screen

Like I said, if I wipe the computer and reinstall Windows 10 the laptop works fine in both laptop and tablet mode, but if the battery runs low and turns off these 2 issues come back. Any ideas besides reinstalling w10?

Hi --

I just migrated to a new hard drive and did a clean install of Win7 (did not have SP1 on the DVD).

During the Updating process, windows stopped working and I received an error, something about running Update again, etc. So I rebooted and finished the Upgrading process...no further problems noted.

However, I view the "Installed Updates" and see that KB2604114 and about 20 other updates "FAILED." But when I view the "Update History," it lists KB2604114 and the others as "installed."

I'm confused. Are the updates I'm referring to "FAILED" or are they properly installed?

Thanks!

Answer:Win7 - "View Update History" vs. "Installed Update"

In your description, you might have switched the observations.

"History" is a log that tracks attempts at installing specific updates. One user might have multiple failed attempts for a particular update; or multiple successful attempts if one was looking for a source of a problem.

"Installed updates" records the last successful installation of a specific update; no timestamp, just the date.

Hi there,
I have some serious trouble with my Latitude E5540. In Windows (10, 64bit), it says that it's working on AC, but does not charge. It stays at 39%.
I've done some reading on the Internet and found several approaches which I followed. I updated BIOS and cleaned the connectors of the battery, which obviously didn't help.
Now, I've really run out of ideas and cannot come up with anything more. I've contacted Dell support, but I guess they won't help because the device is more than two years old and I only had 1 year NBD service.
Something I haven't tried is uninstalling the battery hardware from the device manager. Is this a serious option?
I'm looking forward to hearing from you. Any suggestion is most welcome! Thanks in advance.

Greetings,
Achim

Answer:Latitude E5540: "Power connected, battery not charging" at 39%

Hello, Nice to hear from you. The battery seems to be the culprit here. Should you wish to go ahead with purchasing battery do do PM us the system tag# by clicking on my name in blue and then select send a private message.
Though you mentioned you do not have a spare battery, can you borrow one from somebody or take it to a local store to try (if possible)

I think this is an "Update" thread vs. a "Restore Points" thread...

I have Automatic updates turned off and no updates are showing in the update history, however when I go to restore points, I have one listed every couple days for "Windows Update." I read in this forum that no updates were done, but that the RP was created when Windows goes through the motions.

The problem this creates for me is that I now no longer have the restore point for the date I need, prior to installing some suspect software. Yes, I've now increased the disk size for Restore Point to 10%, but I still have the issue of not being able to go back to an older restore point. So....

Q1: Can I stop Windows Update from creating these restore points? They are needlessly taking up all my SR space. (There were no actual computer changes, so this was a dumb idea, Microsoft).

Q2: If I restore to the oldest RP in the list, will older ones then show up? (Yes, once this is resolved, I will get an imaging software - another good idea I got from this forum).

Answer:Preventing "fake" Win Update restore points

What is the update that the Restore point refers to?

Please follow the Windows Update Posting Instructions and post the requested data.

Yesterday, I tried downloading the full version of Windows 8.1 from the Windows store. It ran the first two steps (downloading, installing), and then it came to "checking for compatibility." After five minutes, I got a message in the form of a banner across the screen (the color of my metro background) that said I needed to uninstall an app called "Kaspersky Internet Security Suite/Anti-Virus/Pure/Crystal. I ran the executable file "kavremover" from the Kaspersky website to completely remove my existing anti-virus software (Anti-Virus Internet Security 2013) and all versions of "Kaspersky Pure." Upon the 10th reboot and installation attempt, it continues to show me this message. What can I do?

Answer:"Compatibility Issues" Preventing Windows 8.1 Update

Hi Vialtoclef,

Apparently, Kapersky has a product tutorial on how to prepare your computer for the Windows 8.1 update:

Important tip: Prepare for the Windows 8.1 update

I do understand that the removal tool should have worked; however, since it did not, maybe you can do a reinstall and follow the preparation tutorial to see if it takes when your computer (using Kapersky) is properly prepared for the update. Good luck.

Hello
I recently upgraded my Latitude e6530 from win7 to win10, after a month or so I started experiencing getting a endless loop of "system recovery" startups that I struggled with- after that went unsolved for 3 days and left me laptopless, it managed to boot up properly once, then after I thought i'd try to defragment my drivers and pray I closed it for the night only to reopen it the next day to a black screen that says "No Bootable devices" then options like f1 to retry, f2 for setup utility, and f5 to open the preboot system assessment. none of these options have lead to any answers.
so now i'm using a friends laptop to ask for help- I tried looking for results by searching for win10 issues for days so I thought id try looking into the actual laptop for things like how to factory reset if it comes to that or for different "f1-f12" startup options that I don't know about. I don't know, i'm clueless at this point.

I'm sure it has to do with the windows system- like somehow my computer doesn't have any operating system on it? I don't know, If possible I'd like to resolve this without losing my files and stuff but i'm willing to lose them all if needed
any help is appreciated.

Another question/puzzle. Windows 8.1 Enterprise.

I clean installed W8.1 three days ago, and the first thing I did was bring it up to date with all the offered updates. All installed successfully and I thought no more of it. At some point after this I made a system image backup, which today I have restored to. When I now look at the "classic" windows update screen it says I have never checked for updates and none are installed. Forcing a check for updates brings only two up as can be seen in the pictures. If I go to "view installed updates" then there is a lot of stuff in there, whih I assume could be the previously installed original batch.
I'm guessing this is normal behaviour but it seems slightly odd (the on screen messages at least)

Answer:No update history says "never checked" & "never installed"

Not odd... Considering that is a "clean install"(albeit with integrated updates) - thus no update history (file) exists.

I have look up many ways to solve it but I so far I have only been able to boot 1) in Safe mode and 2) with "Boot Manager" which seems to boot it normally. However when I restart in either of these configurations, it gives me the same error when it attempts to boot.

Hi all, I've been hunting through discussions on this forum and can't seem to find a case of this that fits my computer's specs to provide a real solution. Please help!
I'm running Windows 10 on a Dell Latitude E6430 with an IntelCore i5 2.60GHz processor. She was working fine until yesterday when I got this message:
"Intel Boot Agent v1 .3.81(c) 1997 - 2011
PXE-E61: Media test failure, check cablePXE-M0F: Exiting Intel Boot Agent. No Boot Device Found. Press any key to reboot the machine_"
So I tapdance all over the F2 key to get to BIOS on the next reboot. My NIC is enabled w/PXE. I try enabling the UEFI Network Stack and reboot. Same error.
Next, I try switching the NIC to just "enabled." Now, the only message I get is one lonely line of text that reads, "No boot device found. Press any key to reboot the machine"Fine, Dell. I see how it is. I switch my Boot List Option from Legacy to UEFI. When I click "Add Boot Option" a window pops up to inform me "File system not found!" I try a reboot anyways. Now I'm getting a message that says, "No bootable devices -- Strike F1 to retry boot, F2 for setup utility. Press F5 to run onboard diagnostics."
Diagnostics is trying to tell me that there is no hard drive installed. Am I missing something here? Can anyone help me fix my little homie?
Thanks. x

Answer:'Dell Latitude with Win10 suddenly not booting: "Media test failure, check cable"

Unplug the system, remove or disconnect the battery and hold the power button for 30 sec.  Remove the base cover and remove and reinstall the hard drive.
Power up and see if the drive is detected - if it is, reboot, press F12 and run an extended diagnostic on the drive.
If it's not detected or it fails the diagnostic,  the drive has failed and will need to be replaced.

Hello
Im the owner of Dell Latitude e6430.
Two days ago, I tried to reinstall my Win7 from recovery partition.
I did it before, using ctrl-F11, and everything was ok.
But this time, ive just seen "bootmgr is missing...".
I called technical support in Poland, where the guy told me that only one option, since my gyarantee is over, is to download Win10 and install it from bootable cd.
He also told me, that after this it is possible to return to Win7, using the recovery partition.
I did install Won10 and everything is fine, but i really dont like it.
So i want to return to Win7.
And this is the problem.
Recovery partition is still there with all the files on it.
But ctrl-F11 or F8 option doesnt work.
Does anybody know how to use this partition to return to Win7 in my case.
Tank you :)

A system that old isn't going to support booting from USB. Since it originally used a proprietary media bay connection, your options are limited. A new laptop is probably more economical at this point.

Hey everyone, i have been receiving the "Your battery is temporarily disabled" notification after the laptop randomly turns off. Getting it started again is easy, all i have to do it disconnect the battery and reconnect it and it starts. However at first it might happen once a month, then once a week, now it's a few times a day and even within a few minutes of resetting it, it can happen. It's random at the moment, but it won't last more than a day, typically no less than a few hours before turning off.
So far i have replaced both the AC Adaptor and Battery, and i switch between the 2 with no improvements. I have updated the BIOS, and i also uninstalled the battery drivers, but not the AC driver (it wasn't suggested but i might try it anyway). Still no luck.
Any ideas?

Hi,
I am writing this as I have hopelessly tried all methods found online without success.
I have an XPS 15 bought in France. I move to Singapore and my original DELL AC adapter was spoiled. So I went to the nearest store and bought a third party adapter. Everything works out fine for a while... Now, my laptop won't charge anymore (stuck at 90%).
My laptop only turn on if it is plugged under ac adapter. When I unplug the ac adapter, my laptop turn off.
When I turn on my laptop it says "this battery charging is temporarily disabled, press F2 for entering BIOS Menu". In BIOS, under battery health it is said "this battery is temporarily disabled, please turn off the computer and try again when the unit is back to operational temperature" I have this problem systematically, my laptop is not heated.
I even bring it to a repair shop here in Singapore; but they do not even have the parts to test.
Please help.
I am willing to buy a new battery or new adapter, but I am not even sure if that's the problem.

Thank you

Hello,

Sorry for being away from posting on the forum since a long time, though I have been visiting the forum lot many times, without logging in - mainly through Google search. That shows how effective the website really is.

Since some time a very persistent error has been bothering me and I thought it best to come here and post the issue.

After my original battery for my Dell Studio 1555 32-bit computer died, I replaced batteries thrice, one after another (the computer is five years old).
The three replacement batteries were:
1. Dell - exact replacement 56 Wh
2. LB1 - matching specs but 48 Wh
3. Dell - exact replacement 56 Wh

Since the second replacement battery, the Low Battery Alarm has been disturbing me each time that:
1. The computer is restarted with the main power disconnected.
2. The main power jack is removed after a 100% charge.
3. The main power jack is removed anytime.

Since in the first place I never set this alarm manually, I am assuming there could either be a Dell specific registry issue with after-market batteries, though I don't understand why. Either way the irritant must go.

I checked Advanced Power Options under Power Scheme but found nothing that would give me a hint of what's wrong.

The alarm screenshot is attached.

Any help would be welcome.

Answer:False "Low Battery Alarm" with after-market battery - Dell Studio

Rule out the OS and Drivers by downloading a Linux LiveCD and booting from that See if you get the same errors/alarms/warnings.
If you do it could be a faulty charging circuit in your laptop. Check with Dell and see if they have a battery calibration tool. Sometimes completely running the battery flat a couple of times does a "reset" kind of thing.
Sorry I can't think of anything else just now.

I have a Dell inspiron 15 M5010 and i recently bought a new battery. It's not a Dell battery but a Ninja Battery. As i started charging it i noticed it doesn't charge. I thought it was a defective battery so the company sent me a new one. It didn't make a difference.
Is it my AC Adapter? or because i need a Dell battery? I tried everything except update the BIOS because it needs at least 10% battery to run. Sadly i have 5%. Please help.

Answer:Preventing autocreation of "My ebooks" and "My Pictures"

Here's a possible fix, but it entails tweaking the registry. http://www.graphixanstuff.com/Forum/index.php?showtopic=2572

My understanding is that the folders keep getting recreated (after deletion) by _other_ software when it's installed; I assume something like Photoshop would have language referencing the My Pictures folder, for example.

Answer:Dell XPS 13 (9350) after SSD change it says "Hard Drive - Not Installed" when I boot it up

Since you purchased an PCIe NVMe drive, have you changed the SATA controller to AHCI in the Bios?
Do you have a 2.5 inch SATA drive?
I am not aware of the driver situation with the 9350 but if you want to use the PCIe version, the Bios has to provide the driver during boot.  If it does not at the present time, it may need a Bios update to the latest..  But I am not familiar with that particular system.

problem is, when i plug in the charger all i get is plugged in, not charging.
i have tried
1- removing battery and charger and holding power button for 20sec
2-deleted and reinstalled the battery drivers

I had the post earlier of the laptop I found, a Dell XPS M1210, that would require a new OS installation. I had a disk for Windows XP Home Edition 2002 Service Pack 1, with the key number. I tried to boot it up and it said it couldn't because the version of XP on the laptop was newer. It said I could but would lose all data and programs, I figured that was OK. So I went and installed it, but "wireless" doesn't show up when you right click on Network connections. And to make things worse, I'm no longer able to connect to the internet through the Ethernet cable I had hooked up and was using previously. I figured maybe I did need a newer version of XP, so since I don't have an internet connection anymore, I burned the program Autopatcher 2007 to a disk and ran it on the laptop. But it still shows the same thing under Network Connections. And even though it was suppose to include service pack 2 or 3, on the laptop under system info it still says service pack 1. How do I get the wireless option on Windows XP? And I have a feeling the wireless reader I think Dell had on their computers, Intel wireless, I may have deleted with the new OS installation? Also, to boot the first version of XP, I had to change the boot order to go to disk first. It is still asking me this in a black screen but can't remember how t oswitch it to not go there first, if that will make a difference. I hope this makes sense and isn't too confusing. Anybody have the answ... Read more

ever since i (partially) installed an Audigy sound card, i get a message that reads "No drive attached to FasTrak controller, the BIOS is not installed" every time i boot up. this is annoying, but not too annoying, because it is only ther for about 2 seconds.

far more annoying is that ever since i upgraded Netscape 7.0 to 7.1, the Program Files folder opens up at startup. what makes it annoying is that i have to close it each and every time i boot up.

any help with stopping either of these unwanted occurrences would be much appreciated.

Long story short:
I finished using DBAN to wipe my hard drive clean in preparation for my Windows 8 installation, and I forgot to switch back to UEFI Boot Mode. (DBAN will *not* start unless legacy BIOS is activated.)

Have I reduced the performance of my computer in any way by doing this? Will I need to reinstall the OS in order to gain maximum performance?

Dell Inspiron 660
Intel B75 Express Chipset
Windows 8 64-bit Home Edition

Answer:I accidentally installed Windows 8 with "Legacy BIOS" activated. Am I Okay?

Since it sounds like you've just installed Windows 8, it might be easiest and faster to just start over & reinstall with UEFI enabled.

While there's no guarantee that your hardware will boot more quickly with Windows 8 installed with UEFI enabled, it is highly likely that you will see some performance improvement. You will also be able to enjoy the added security of the Safe Boot features of UEFI.

For more info on UEFI, you can visit their main website --- UEFI - About UEFI

If you are feeling adventurous, however, I'll paste in a link here that has a somewhat complicated procedure to switch Windows 8 to UEFI without reinstalling Windows.

Answer:"no drives attached to the fasttrack controller, the BIOS is not installed"

Your Promise IDE controller has issues-it has issues with its BIOS causing problems when you attempt to install Windows via your DVD drive. It also seems to have issues detecting your DVD drive in the first place. Consider troubleshooting it in another computer or simply replacing it.You can't install a 64-bit version of Windows on your 32-bit computer.

Purchased my XPS 15 9560 with i7-7700HQ, 16GB RAM, 512GB NVMe SSD, GTX1050 4GB, and 1080P display back in June 2017. Since installing the 1.5.0 BIOS update, I received a DPC_WATCHDOG_VIOLATION bluescreen, and now my laptop no longer boots.
Upon powering on the laptop, I'll usually see the Dell POST screen, then it will either go black for an extended period of time before shutting down on its' own, or boot into ePSA SupportAssist Diagnostics and run through the quick troubleshooting tests. These tests will either result in a "Hard Drive - Not Installed" error, or show all hardware passing, but "No boot devices found" before shutting down.
As a computer technician with 10+ years experience in the field, I've already taken the appropriate steps to fully remove all power from the laptop, including unplugging the battery, and reseating the RAM and NVMe SSD in their sockets. The laptop still fails to boot or detect the drive on a regular basis.
Very occasionally I'll see the drive detected in the F12 Boot Options screen, as it shows up as a SanDisk A400 SSD, however, the system still locks up on a black screen should I choose to try to boot from it. I can get it to UEFI boot from a Windows 10 Installation USB, or from the Recovery USB I made with Dell's recovery tools, but only if I boot with the NVMe SSD unplugged from the motherboard. Otherwise the system hangs upon trying to boot.
I've opened up a line of support on the... Read more

I'm trying to help a friend's son build his first computer, from over the phone. He's built a system based on an Asus K8V Deluxe. He called me about seeing the "bios not installed" error; I explained that this was normal as he's not using RAID.

What is happening, though, is that right after that, the system stops, and I simply cannot remember if this is normal if there is not yet an OS installed, or a disk in any removeable drive. Is it? If it is not, what sort of problems should I look for? I know this is a stupid question but I have a serious case of brain dead tonight.

I also have this board. I'm fairly certain there's nothing catastrophic happening, but it's been long enough since I put this system together I can't remember the experience. Unfortunately, I cannot reboot my system right now to see 'what happens next'. Can someone remind me, please?

If he doesn't sort this out for himself tonight, I'll be visiting him tomorrow.

Thanks for any help!

Answer:Solved: K8V Deluxe stops at "bios not installed"

Take the Raid out of the boot order via the bios. If there is no floppy disk or formatted hard drive, it has no where else to go....you have to be trying to boot to something.

can anyone help with this as I can't find a solution anywhere every time I boot my pc up I get a "new CPU installed" message appear in bios asking me to enter setup or load default values i have done this several times entering different values into the bios and starting it on default values even thou I have been running the pc for a year I tried resetting the car CMOS switch removed and replaced the battery changed the ram sticks around, I've removed the CPU and found one of the pins was bent and straighten it
can't think what it might be

Answer:"new CPU installed" message keeps appearing bios start up

That is typical when you change a CPU. Have you gone to bios and loaded optimized defaults, save and exit? And in bios does it recognize the correct CPU you have now? are you sure the CPU is properly seated? Other than those things, all I can think of is reflash bios or call technical support who are going to probably tell you to flash bios.

We used to have "stereo mix" option that enabled streaming audio recording without having to have the audio playing through the speakers. How do I do that now? What replaces that capability? Who makes my sound card? Why is that not readily available somewhere in Dell land? I can't believe forum searching found pretty much nothing on this.

Answer:Latitude E6530 Windows 10 no "stereo mix" option for sound input device, only "high definition audio device" with Microsoft driver and unknown manufacturer.

aj_chicagoWho makes my sound card?
Hello. The audio chip manufacturer was IDT.
aj_chicagoWhat replaces that capability?
IDT doesn't have "stereo mix", so I'm not sure how you used to have it on the E6530. IDT has an equivalent capability that it calls Rec.Playback. That can be found in the list of recording devices, after the IDT driver is installed.
aj_chicagoHow do I do that now?
Dell doesn't support audio on an E6530 that has had Win10 installed. The IDT company went out of the consumer audio business long before there was a Win10 OS, so there is no Win10 IDT driver for that model. Your computer is currently using the Windows native audio driver, which, as you say, does not support a stereo mix kind of feature.
You should be able to install the IDT driver for Win7 by installing with compatibility mode.
1. Download and save the audio driver to your desktop or any convenient location on the hard drive.  [There are two "formats" on the driver's page. Scroll down to the 2nd one, named "Hard Drive" format, and download that one, not the 1st one named "Windows Update Package".]2. Double click on the new folder to extract (unzip) the driver files.3. The extractor wizard will create a new folder for the driver files. It will be at "c:\dell\drivers\xxxxxx". Write down the exact location that the wizard creates. 4. If the driver begins to install automatically, halt (cancel) the installation.5. Browse to the dri... Read more

Hello,
I own a Dell Inspiron 15R 5537, bought on Feb 1, 2014.
As the title says, I get the error: "Your Battery has experienced a permanent failure and needs to be replaced." It also comes on QuickSet. The Battery is stuck at 86% and isn't charging nor discharging. I can only operate via AC power supply which seems to work fine.
I've updated BIOS and checked and it shows the same error message for battery whereas BIOS shows AC power supply is working fine.
I've pretty much tried all the methods suggested in the other posts related to this issue in the forum(s) and still it isn't resolved. The Battery light flashes Red continuously when the battery is plugged.
So is there any other thing I can do? Or should I replace under warranty? And how long is the warranty valid in India?
Battery Type: MR90Y 65 Wh
Thank you!
Nithish

Answer:Dell Battery Type MR90Y "has experienced a permanent failure and needs to be replaced"

After ran Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor (result was perfect), I tried to install WIN 7 PRO on my DELL INSPIRON 1720 (4Gb RAM, Win Vista with SP2.) a legend come out saying something like: Update BIOS!!!
I download the newest executable BIOS file from DELL (1720_A09.exe).
But when I tried to install it, the messages I get: "The AC adapter and battery must be plugged in before the system bios can be flashed".
My Battery is too old, not charging anymore. Adapter (original Dell Ac adapter) & battery are plugged in.
I did a LOT of research online, tried many methods & combination of removing / reinstalling ,...etc. none worked. For example:1) 1720_A09.exe /forceit from the command prompt inside of Windows.2) I went to computer management and in Device Manager disabled Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery. But nothing happened. Same error.
Can U help me with my DELL problem??

Answer:"The AC adapter and battery must be plugged in before the system bios can be flashed"

The solution was simple:- First download the BIOS update, to a folder that you can remember easily or to your desktop, for example mine was D620_A10.EXE and it was located on the desktop. Next type cmd in run and press enter, then at the prompt type cd desktop , you should then see something like this C:\Documents and settings\rob\desktop now type in the folder name of where the update is located, or if its on the desktop simply type in D620_A10.EXE <--- where that is the name of your bios update now if you were to press enter it would bring up the dialogue saying "The AC adapter and Battery must both be connected, before flashing the BIOS" so here s the great bit, simply type /forceit after the .exe with a space and sit back and watch the update!! example C:\Documents and settings\rob\desktop>D620_A10.EXE /forceit

I've seen a lot of posts about Dell laptops suddenly losing battery power. But I've not found a post with my particular question.

Several weeks ago, when running on battery only, my computer started going into hibernate mode without any warning. The battery icon in the system tray would show the battery to be almost fully charged, but after about 30 minutes, the hibernate would occur. I usually use it with A/C power. Last night, when I removed the power cord, the computer suddenly lost all power, as if there were no battery installed.

When I look at the battery meter (Fn+F3), It shows 96% charged, and the "battery health" tab says my battery is performing normally. Additionally, when I remove the battery and push the little battery icon on it, all 6 LEDs light up, indicating that there are no dead cells. If I push and hold the button for 3 seconds, no LEDs light up, which supposedly means the battery is healthy.

I appreciate any suggestions.

I'm running Windows XP, SP2, and using a wireless network.

Answer:Dell E1505 - good battery "not working"?

Your laptop Dell E1505 sounds as though it may have either a motherboard or just contacts issue

Regarding the contacts, make sure both the battery and if possible, the motherboard contacts to the battery are clean (usually blowing out all dust)

Regarding the motherboard, firstly check the warranty status and also have a look at extending expired warranty. As this does sound like a hardware fault.

This new Dell Inspiron 11 3147 just arrived today.
The AC Adapter is "plugged in" but the battery is "not charging."
I've looked all over for help for this, Dell Diagnostic has found no problem, and I've had trouble getting a hold of customer service. The most commonly suggested idea has been to uninstall and reinstall the Microsoft ACPI Complian Control Method Battery driver, which I have done.
The only thing I haven't messed with is the battery itself, which doesn't seem to be accessible without damaging the back, which is screwed on and secured well.
Any idea what's wrong?

Answer:Dell Inspiron 11 3147 Battery "Not Charging"

Update to my below post:
One day later, after the battery fully charged and all was well, I come back and it is back to the message "plugged in, not charging". I might see if reflashing the bios and rebooting will work again.
My original post on Dec 8, 2014:
I had this problem until this morning. In short, I updated the bios to Version A03,A03 (released Dec 2, 2014). Before that I did all the googling and messing about without success. Here's what to do:
1. Run "My Dell". You can access this by type Ctrl-Esc and then type in "My Dell" and clicking on the "My Dell" icon that comes up.
2. Click on the green "Drivers and Updates" panel. This should open a product support browser window.
3. Scroll down to the bottom beneath the section that says "These drivers match your selections" and click on the arrow next to "Bios"
4. Click on "Download file". Close all your other applications and run the file and follow the prompts. It will reboot for you at the end and the problem should be solved.
Good luck!

I have had my Dell Inspiron 17 5758 Laptop since around Feb 10, 2015 so almost 2 years now.  The lap top was working fine up until mid day yesterday now it is stuck in the "preparing sutomatic repair" loop and ends with either a black screen, saying my laptop didnt start correctly or that it couldnt repair my laptop and when i try to run a diagnostic on it it says that my hard drive is not installed. Also now the hard drove is simply not running. Is this because the hard drive as failed? Its in transit a lot and occasionnaly hits a bumps on the seat of my car when driving.
Also if i have to buy a new hard drive how would i install windows 10 on my laptop again? Will i have to pay for it again?

Answer:Dell Inspiron 17 5758 stuck in "preparing automatic repair" loop and says hard drive isnt installed

Unplug the system, disconnect the battery and hold the power button for 30 sec.  Remove the base cover and hard drive - then reinstall them.  If the drive is still not detected, it's toast.

Hi,

I'm using Windows 10 th2-10511 x64 and when I install EMET 5.5 final the EMET system service is installed with the "delayed start" flag and the service and never starts after a reboot. The same thing happened with the beta version, I didn't notice
it until the final was released. This issue doesn't occurs with EMET 5.2.
I switched the service back to the normal Automatic (not delayed) start, and everything seems to be working again. I was wondering if anyone else experienced this issue?

Also, can someone enlighten me about this warning message "DEP/ASLR Policy settings are ineffective by default; see user's guide on how to enable them". It appears when I enable the DEP/ASLR EMET GPO. I couldn't find any reference to this warning
message in the user guide. DEP seems to be enabled, I have no idea how to check for ALSR other than Process hacker that shows ASLR as N/A.
Thanks

and this message is displayed when i go to BATTERY HEALTH option "Your battery is temporarily disabled. Please turn off your computer and try again when the unit is back to the operational temperature" my laptop is outta warranty...what should i do ? kindly help

Answer:Dell XPS 15z : "Your battery is temporarily disabled. Please turn off your computer and try again when the unit is back to the operational temperature"

hchentanshankar,
Welcome to the community.
I am sorry to read that you are having this trouble.  The battery failing is the most likely culprit but you should check to see if there are any problems with either the notebook or Ac adapter before rushing out and replacing the battery.
I would start by checking the bios, start the system tapping F2 to enter the bios, you can also tap F12 and choose bios from the menu.  Once in the bios look for the option for AC adapter warnings, if they are disabled enable them and save changes. If there is a problem with the adapter you should start getting errors about the adapter.
If the Adapter seems alright, disconnect the battery from the system and power down the notebook.  Wait an hour or so and then replace the battery and restart the system and see if you continue to get the message.   If you can run the notebook on battery only allow the battery to fully discharge and then charge it again and see if the problem returns.
I know that this may not be possible short of buying a new battery but if possible try a power adapter and battery and see if the problem continues.  This way you can find out if the problem follows the battery the ac adapter or the notebook.
Please let me know what you find out.

I need help getting my printer to work with a fresh install of Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit. I had to re-install due to a CMOS error which I think was due to a dead battery. It still could be something else seeing as I have had other problems with this install (explained below). Anyway, the printer is an old Brother MFC 8300 (it has been a workhorse!). Previous times I have re-installed Windows there haven't been any problems with this printer. I simply install the driver from Windows Update (the driver is named "Brother MFC8600/9650 Series" in the device manager). But this time the "Windows Update" installed the driver and says everything is working properly but when I go to "Devices and Printers" it doesn't show up under "Printers and Faxes". There is a listing for "USB Composite Device" under "Devices" that shows "Brother MFC8600/9650 Series" as a scanner. Not sure what that means.

I also tried to manually download the driver from "catalog.update.microsoft.com". I downloaded 2 different versions of the driver. One has a file size of 2.0 MB and the other has a files size of 2.3 MB. I ended up not installing either because I didn't know where the proper destination location was using the "Expand" command from the "Command Prompt" with "expand <CAB FILE NAME> -F:* <DESTINATION>". That means your unit is a MultiFunction device and include Printer, Fax, Copier and Scanner. Sometimes the scanner part will be picked up as a separate device because Win7 has a built-in function for scanning.

When I launch WU form the std start menu shortcut, it launches wuapp.exe and just hangs. I have to terminate the process in task manager. Additional launches = additional hung processes.

Shortcut target: %windir%\system32\wuapp.exe startmenu
Starts in: %windir%\system32\

The same condition occurs if I try to launch wuapp.exe directly from %windir%\system32\
Yesterday, I checked the Effective permissions for my user on wuapp.exe = full control
Today, after running the Windows WU Troubleshooter and WU MS Fixit, the permissions = read, read & execute.

The issue is twofold. The standard WU shortcut "hangs" but Control Panel WU does not hang, until I try to view installed updates (viewing history seems to be ok). I have to terminate the process in Task Manager once I try to view installed updates.

As a workaround, I created a shortcut to Control Panel WU - this allows me to check for and apply updates.

Shortcut target: Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Windows Update

I'm not sure that resetting WU would actually cure your problem - it sounds to me more of a systemic problem, possibly to do with one of the involved technologies (scripting, NET, etc.).

My wuapp.exe has TrustedInstaller as owner, with only Read and Execute permissions for users and Admins.

dell.com/support -> view all support -> enter your service tag -> "drivers & downloads" -> find it myself -> download and install the bios and audio driver -> done

Hi guys,

I have been trying to install Win7 SP1 on my Lenovo SL410 laptop for the last couple of weeks now without success. The laptop would reboot and indicate configuring service pack, run till about 7-8% and restart after trying for a while. I have tried the steps stated on

Troubleshoot problems installing Service Pack 1 (SP1) for Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 - Windows Help

without much success. I have also downloaded the stand-alone and faced the same symptom. This is a fresh factory restore and I have not used any regcleaners on this laptop.

Some of the error codes encountered were 800705B4, 800F0826 with the latest being 80200001. This is what my update history looks like (as attached). Though it indicates that SP1 has been successfully installed, it is not listed under installed updates.

I ran CheckSUR and no errors were found in the log.

I ran SFC and no integrity violations were found.

Just installed a new k8v se mb into an existing system and it won't boot. Keep getting the error "no bios installed" and something about no drive connected to fast trak. There are two ide hdd installed in the system as well as two cd rom dives. It has win xp home os already on the master hdd. Any help you can offer is most appreciated. Thanks

Answer:"no bios installed" after new k8v se deluxe mb installed

you cant just swap motherobards and expect windows to boot. when windows installs it creates the HAL ( Hardware Abstraction Layer) which is specific to the machine that windows is being installed on. if the motherboard you are installing is the same as the one you removed then you shouldnt have a problem but if they are different then it wont boot. you will have to either do a clean install (best option) or do a repair install over the existing installation to fix the problem.

I purchased two almost identical Dell XPS laptop, one 15" and one 13", for the purpose of back up each other.  If one computer is down, the other is still running.  The 15" runs fine, the 13" with the same hardware set up is full of problems.  The 13" wireless keep drop in and out of the wifi while the 15" has no problem at the same location.  The 13" keep have this notification "dell update ready to install".  After the install, the computer is crashed 5 times with blue screens.  Both computers are 3 months old, and I asked Dell to send  a replacement while they could repair the 13".  I keep sending them the pictures of the crash blue screen. But they refuse to send me a replacement.  Dell insists they will send a technician to my place for the repair.  That means I cannot work for that day: I travel and visit client as my job.  I have worked on it for 4 hours. How many hours do I need to work to fix the *** computer?

I will keep everyone posted of this.  And every time when the computer crash, I am going to make a call and ask for replacement.  Lets see how many times I should try to get any answer.

Answer:Problematic Dell XPS systems - be very aware of the "Dell update"

Something you might do to help folks see the problem is to note any differences between the two systems.  For instance, do they have the same model Wi-Fi adapter?
If you compare the connection status on both systems, are they similar as far as IP addresses and both networks are showing as Private.

Dell Update reports there's an update for "Intel HD Graphics Driver". When I click Install Now, it looks like it installed, but it reports the same update again an hour later (or immediately if I force update check).
I have this problem on a XPS 13 9350. This is a recurring problem happening to a lot of people for various updates.
If a Dell assistant reads this, please help us all the way through until it's fixed once and for all. Appreciate it!

I have this problem on two XPS 13 9550's, and this thread shows five other users (and counting) having the problem on machines including XPS 15, Inspiron 15-7569.
Is Dell aware of this installer bug, and will there be a fix? That notification balloon is really irritating.

HI

Did you add a new CPU?

Ah now if you sent for repair then the company did not repair it if it came back the same. Hope you did not pay for repair, if you did what was the expanation from the company as to why the error was still there?

Express gate can be disabled in the BIOS, I do this as PITA is that message.

DELL INSPIRON N5010

I am owner of my Dell INSPIRON N5010 , but i m not from USA , my computer hanged so my friend just restored its BIOS setting( i am not sure if these are called BIOS, but it happened as: he restarted Laptop, pressed F12 and there he restored settings then when it restarted there appeared a black screen in middle of which there is a blue box saying "Insert system password" Now i tried looking over internet all over the place I found out a few reasonable solutions 1- remove a battery with motherboard , but for that you need an expert for which my laptop might have to opened which i prefer not to get opened 2- second provide your service tag(S/N) on dellpasswords.com but that asks for $35 which i think is just too much! Now I want if the second one can be done for free or anyother viable solution thank you

Answer:My Dell N5010 shows a "insert system password" when i reset my BIOS Setting! need help?

Hi,
Please share the system's Service Tag and Owner's Name and the exact message you get with the code via private message (click my username and then click Start Conversation). I will try and check if a master password can be generated for this to help you reset the password.

This is not really a problem, more like a nerdy technical question, since I like being informed about the goings-on in my PC. I hope I posted it in the right section, since IMVU would probably fall more under "game" than anything else.

I have always been curious as to why would the developers of the chat client IMVU decide to have the program install within C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Roaming\IMVUClient (previous versions did so under "Documents and Settings") instead of "Program Files" or "Program Files (x86)" on Windows... I am also curious if this unconventional choice could potentially make my PC vulnerable to attacks.

Now, the program works fine AFAIK, but I'm puzzled by this. I'm the kind of user who likes having the choice of installing apps in a drive other than C: (to free space in C:, for portability, etc.), and who gets nervous when apps do not install or behave the way that I'm used to.

I was told by someone more knowledgeable than me that it was probably a lazy way to get around administrative install rights in Windows Vista and Windows 7. He also added that the cache data of the program shouldn't be in Roaming when there is no upper limit or even default size set on it.

And yes, this has been asked on their forums, but no staff member ever answered it (only a forum mod, who didn't have a clue).

Any ideas? Or am I being overly paranoid?

Ed.

Hello,

I have a Gateway NV56R41u laptop running Win 8.1 and always auto-updated.
Anti-virus, web shields, firewalls all in place and running OK.

A few days back a windows update took place and thereafter any website I visit (with whichever browser), I get a privacy error warning.
For example I visit outlook.com to check my email, this is what I get:

Your connection is not privateAttackers might be trying to steal your information from Sign In (for example, passwords, messages, or credit cards).

Back to safetyHide advanced
This server could not prove that it is Sign In; its security certificate is not trusted by your computer's operating system. This may be caused by a misconfiguration or an attacker intercepting your connection.

So I went over to system restore and restored my system to a restore point of Feb 1st 2015 which was linked to a critical Windows Update.

Restoring to this makes this privacy error issue disappear, but again the update automatically takes place and the proble is back.
Incase it helps, here's details of the last two windows updates:

Would really appreciate some help on this, pls.

Thanks in anticipation

When my laptop is plugged in (Satellite C580-1KN) it says "fully charged 100%" but when unpluged it says "low battery 4%".

Does anyone know what the problem is?
Thanks!

Answer:Satellite C580 - plugged in says"Fully charged", unplugged it says "low battery 4%"

How old is your battery?

It could be possible that the battery does not work properly anymore…
You should know that sooner or later any battery will lose their efficiency.

So even if the battery charging notification says the battery is fully charged, the charging level could be very low…
In such case only the battery replacement could help you.

I had just restored a Dell 530 PC Desktop for a classroom, and I had a finicky time with it attempting to boot from USB as it had not only set it to "Floppy" First, but also had apparently done some weird permissions issue from having one of the Settings in the SATA section enabled. After fixing that little predicament and replacing the OS with Windows 10, (You know, Something more User friendly then that Vista Crap,) I came to lament the whole trouble I found myself in from the BIOS earlier. So I decided since the PC is extremely old, I might as well Update its BIOS. Well Turns out that is the Latest, and Most Updated version since 2009, (According to the computer's record of when the BIOS was last Updated Supposedly.) That, and Downloading the Update Matched both versions, So I kind of got a little annoyed there.

So I'm thinking that there should be a way to completely flash the device with a different BIOS installed entirely should it? I mean I remember, I don't know how I got to this site's conversation, nor the site itself, thinking back, some forum's board was talking about some BIOS problems and if he Could install a completely different BIOS on it, (To which I think one of the Guy's linked him to some Linux Page of "Alternative" BIOS's and Crap.) I can't remember it well to find those pages of "Custom" BIOS's, nor can I seem to find that particular Page of where I located the conversation, But regardless, I was Hoping in theory to give t... I have Windows XP Pro., sp3.

When you install a new program, what determines where it is listed: All Users>Start Menu>Programs or "user name">Start Menu>Programs?

reoneill

Answer:What determines if a program is installed under "All Users" or "user name"?

Usually some of the programs give you an option to install it under your user name or for all users during the setup process. So say if I was installing (CVTae) a resume programming on a Windows XP computer it will after the installation process ask me if I want to install it as all users (so it will show up on the all users start menu so everyone can see it) or just for me. That's where you can decide for yourself where you want to install it.

'So usually it's the user's choice of where it's listed in most cases, but certainly not in all cases.

Hope that helps mate.

I have a one month old Inspiron 15, Intel i5, 8GB Ram, 1TB HDD .  Last week I received a message from Dell Assistant saying that an update needs to be installed.  After installing it I got a dark screen with white text stating "No Boot Device Found - Press any Key to reboot"  Every reboot I got the same message.
Fortunately I was able to phone call for support.
I am not a techie so It's not clear to me what was going on, but the agent had me push F12 key on reboot and do some diagnostics and make a change to something about the BIOS.  Then I was able to use the laptop again.  I asked the agent why this happened, and she said something about Legacy BIOS not being recognized.  I didn't understand and asked again why Dell sent me a message to update a one month old laptop, and then because of that update the laptop could not find the Boot Device?  She did not have an answer.
Now I'm not sure if I should allow future updates from Dell onto my laptop.  Can anyone give me a non-techie explanation of what happened?

Please can you help me resolve this so that the update installs correctly and thereby getting rid of the prompts.

Entering the bios limits me to certain options. Is there anyway to access the other options? sorry, newbie here.

Answer:No "usb legacy support" "qfan" options on my asus laptop bios.

If your BIOS doesn't include such options, then they simply are not there.

I don't know about hacking BIOS's, and I wouldn't suggest it at all. You could brick your motherboard.

However, you should check with your manufacturer's website and see if there is an update available for the BIOS that may increase available options.

Hi everyone,

I am having an issue with my Toshiba notebook. My model is Satellite A210 - MS508C. I am out of warranty.

Originally, I was having problems turning on my computer. I would push the power button to turn on the computer. Usually, there is a Toshiba loading screen with a bar at the bottom showing the loading process. Right after, there is a Windows loading screen with another bar at the bottom showing the loading process. I was having problems at the Toshiba loading screen. It would load about 75% and then freeze. My computer would not turn on and I would have to manually press the power button to turn the computer off. Then, press the power button again after waiting a few minutes to try to turn the computer on again.

After having this problem for a week, I figured it was maybe because my computer is not as updated as it should be. So I went to the official Toshiba website to their updates page. I started to download the BIOS update.

In the middle of the installation, my computer shut down (turned off) by itself. There was no indication that the installation was complete. I also remembered reading that the BIOS update should restart automatically. My computer turned off itself all of a sudden and did not turn back on. After waiting a couple of minutes, I tried turning it on manually by pushing the power button. There was sound and the blue power button light below the touchpad was on. However, the screen was black and blank.

I've read a co... Read more

Known issue, but Toshiba takes forever to make it right... Yes we have seen the problem... but don't expect Toshiba to get it back to you quickily... as they have to replace the system board, and they are usually out.
There is nothing you can do but send it in... because otherwise your system board is ruined.

Hi Yall,
So I have successfully (I think) installed my new Radeon R7 250 "low profile" graphics card on my Dell Optiplex 9020.  I plugged it in the motherboard, started up the computer then went to Device Manager to update the drivers--which I did.  Side note: Ever since plugging the graphics card into the motherboard, some tasks like starting programs or starting windows take 2-10X as long as they used to.  Anyhow, it then asked for a restart, which I did.  The computer still took extra long to start any program, and when I plugged the monitor into the graphics card all I got was a black screen.
Take two:  I then read that I should have uninstalled my current graphics driver (Intel integrated HD graphics) before I installed my new graphics card, but failing this, I could uninstall my old graphics card and change the default graphics card in the bios.  I uninstalled the old card and went to the bios, but could not change the default...can't remember exactly what it called it, graphics controller or something.  I could see that intel HD graphics was still the default (this is after uninstalling intel HD graphics and then restarting) but could find no way to change this.  Supposedly dell will make the switcheroo on its own...but it doesn't seem to have.
Take three:  Next I physically removed the graphics card, restarted the computer, then physically inserted the graphics card again, then started the comp... Read more

This week I'm at my in-laws -- and doing routing maintenance on their computers and wireless network -- which includes thorough bumper to bumper scanning of their computers for a variety of things. While doing so with their relatively new Dell laptop I encountered the infamous and incredibly annoying Browser Helper [??] that Dell, in a deal with Google, is installing on new computers.

This "feature" is incredibly annoying when ultimately encountered during the loading of a legit web page. It takes what is presumed to be a mis-typed URL or one that doesn't resolve in the DNS (domain name server) -- including from embedded ad banners -- and instead of returning a standard DNS error, it redirects the browser to a Dell web page with Google search box and a host of click-through adverts. My ISP's home page (which I was using to get to my web mail) was triggering this before the web page could completely load -- as were some web pages on Newegg before that.

Took me a while to sort out what it was as Spybot S&D, Adaware and Hijack This didn't find it (at the least I didn't recognize it in the Hijack This log). Turns out it's not that difficult to get rid of -- but Dell/Google don't make it plainly obvious.

Here's the fix:

Close Internet Explorer (important!)
Fire up the Control Panel
Go to "Add or Remove Programs"
Look for one of these programs (they've used several different program names):

In Windows XP, fully updated, I have several folders full of mp3's and want to see the bit rate and duration. I right click on a column heading and select "Bit rate". I then click on "More..." so I can get to "Duration", and I select that one too.

But all the figures in the "Duration" column appear to be in "hours" and "minutes", so I see "00:04" or "00:03", but what I want is "minutes" and "seconds".

Any thoughts as to how to change this?

Hi,
I have seen many posts for the "bios cannot be installed" error message but none seem to be useful to me.
I have a knackard DVD burner, i only had it a few days so took it back to the shop and swopped it for the same one. Came back plugged it in and now my pc wont boot and i keep getting this error message. It will show the message, hang, attempt to boot from cd (as i set in bios) then switch off. I had a faf for a while and got nowhere. Next, i STUPIDLY pressed "Load Bios Settings" in bios instead of Save and Exit, now i get an MSI screen, which hangs then goes to BIOS. Where do i start?!?! Please help!! I was also looking to format it once i had installed the new drive, so no need to worry about keeping information if this is an issue, just need my pc back!!

Thanks
Mark

You may have to go to the manufacturers web site for the motherboard and get the latset flash file for the BIOS (BIOS Upgrade) and download it on another computer and get their instructions on how to flash the BOS and follow it.

After I installed a new hard drive and re-installed XP Pro, SP3 I cannot get the CPU to recognize my (2) SATA, 80 GB drives. It did register, format and install (2) IDE hard drives. I was running with (4) drives prior to my "C" drive going down. Now when I try to load the two Sata drives, either one or both, I get the error "Bios not Installed". Can anyone help help me find an installation disc for my ASUS P4P800-E motherboard? Or, can I install the Bios using some other means? I did go to www.ASUS.com and downloaded all of the drivers related to this motherboard. I saved them to my hard drive, but I am not sure what to do with them.

Any help will be appreciated...

When I responded to Dell's invitation to update my Recovery Media using an external drive I followed all the steps but have ended up with a black blank screen with the Dell logo popping up for a few seconds at a time. I have left the desktop in this state for 24 hours to no effect. I am running Windows 10 on a Dell XPS 8700. Please help me get my computer back! Thanks.

Answer:Dell "Update your Recovery Media"

What do Dell say about this, if anything?

I'm keen to always keep up-to-date on all drivers/firmware on all of my machines.  I just picked up this notebook on cyber monday and let all the automatic updates go on and noticed that bios is currently 1.2.0 while 1.2.4 is available.  When I try to install it, I get a "Running on an unsupported system" message.  I went and downloaded each of the other bios(1.2.1 etc) to see if it required the previous one to upgrade from, but even 1.2.1 gives me the same error.
The service tag is correct for the download page(at least looking at system configuration everything is what I purchased).  What can I do to get current?  Considering "system stability" is the primary listing for the bios updates, I kind of want them.
Apparently, there will be a new update on 1/2/2018, but I'm going to have to assume it'll have the same issue since all of the updates give the same error.

Oh, and of course, I did run the "40 min" diagnostic test with zero problems.

hello

My comp is: IBM

machine type: NETVISTA 6578
Model HGD

I found on IBM website that Coppermine Pentium III 800 Mhz is correct one for the main board: http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?sitestyle=lenovo&lndocid=MIGR-4LHMXK

So I had bought and instaled the Processor PIII 800. Hmm next in BIOS I can see a crap:

"167 - No processor bios update found"

I cleared BIOS albd loaded default values. IBM website is really crap

Answer:"167 - No processor bios update found" - but how ??

and my BIOS date is 2003. IBM is a crap isn't it ?

I recently flashed the BIOS on my P5N32-E SLI from 1404 to 1601, and when it was done, the board would no longer successfully POST with both of my 8800GTS 512s plugged in. Every time it POSTed it would fail either upon listing the CPU speed, or while searching for HDDs and optical drives. Problem disappeared when I removed my second 8800GTS. I wondered if maybe my power supply (460 watt Enermax, 33A +12V) was starting to fail, because it is a little low on juice to power an SLI system.

But it powered it just fine for about 4 months.

So that led me to believe that this BIOS flash has somehow caused the board to not want to POST anymore when both cards are plugged in. So I'm wondering if it's possible to flash my BIOS back to an older version, one that actually allows SLI to work.

EDIT: Fixed, see post 10.

Answer:"Update" BIOS to a previous version

IF you updated your Bios you might need to also go into it and re-enable SLI.

Check it out!

This may seem very simple, but here goes:
recently i've been having a lot of problems with my RAM from OCZ in my X58M msi motherboard.
I've been getting blue screens, corrupt files, everything crashing.. you name it. So,.. i've done the mem tests, upped the voltage, etc etc until eventually i'm told by the support I need to make sure it's not the bios and update it. ( getting around 2000 errors on one of my three DDR3 cards, only 1 or 2 on another and about 500 on the third ).

So, I try liveupdate
- Not compatable with win 7
- I install Vista
- Not compatable with vista ( urgh )
- I install xp - some kind of error calculating 16bit dos or something strange error it came up with. ( had to install xp twice because my XP cd was scratched ).
- I look for the files to download a bootable cd, all they have is a floppy, which... not only do i not have a floppy, requires me to jump through a **** of a lot of loops to be able to make any use of it. ( bit old school using floppys right? Half way through it would no doubt tell me the floppy isn't formatted :P )

As you can imagine.. i'm getting pretty irritated not being able to update my bios, and at the thought of doing it with unstable RAM aswel. I've upped the voltage on my comp and changed the timings to the support recommended settings .

They have now agreed to RMA the RAM, but... now i'm just left wanting that update to make sure. Also, it fixes a few errors I think may be causing problems.

So... any idea?

Answer:MSI "LIve update" - Rubbish, so how do I update my bios??

Live updating your bios or flashing within Windows is always a bad idea. Can you give me/us a link to your mobo on the MSI site?

I decided to update my drivers and BIOS this morning. My laptop encountered an error during BIOS update and I was stuck in Automatic Repair.

1. I tried restarting the laptop several times.
2. I tried system restore which worked after my second try. The problem is Windows applications like Calendar, Mail, Cortana are not working. It doesn't run and the application is grayed out.
3. So I tried resetting Windows, remove everything which was not successful. Problem got worse, I got stuck on the Dell logo.
4. I ran Diagnostic. No hardware issue found.
5. I tried booting from my bootable USB which contains Windows OS. But my laptop is unable to detect it in BIOS.
5. I read some forums and learned about Legacy vs UEFI and Secure Boot. I disabled the Secure Boot and enabled Legacy ROMS. My laptop was able to boot from the USB and I was able to reinstall Windows 10.

Now, the problem is I want to change it back to UEFI with Secured Boot.
From what I gather, I should do the following:
1. Download Windows OS
2. Make a bootable USB in UEFI mode and GTP partition
3. Change laptop to UEFI mode while Secure Boot is disabled.
4. Re install Windows 10

Am I going in the right direction? Please help me.

Hi, I have repeated experience of failed BIOS firmware update on Dell e5570. More precisely the part
"Sending Intel (R) Management Engine Firmware Update" always hangs on 100% and never finishes.  The annoying thing is that laptop cannot be shutdown via power button (even with the long press) and I have to wait hours till my battery dies :-(
Im trying to update BIOS from 1.6.3 to 1.7.3. In the end, I have 1.7.3 BIOS version, but Embedded Controller stays on A07 instead of A11 so I got my PC into middle of versions :-( First broken thing I noticed is WiFi always turned off after wake from sleep or after startup.
Dell support, please help. I need new BIOS (and Embedded Controller) to resolve some NVMe and other issues with the laptop.
Thanks, M.

Hi
2 questions.
1) Trying to install Ubuntu 64bit, could not sucessed booting after instalation. Caps Lock blinks, computer crashes. I did manage to install Ubuntu mate 64bit sucessfully. Any clues?
2) Bios version here is A10. I red that version A13 is available.
Should I upgrade? What gains will A13 bring?
Can I upgrade directly from A10 to A13?
Is there any risk in upgrading?
Thank you
Luis
