beep doesnt turn on

Question: beep doesnt turn on

I am trying to help with a Dell Inspiron 5100.
The computer was running very slow and I've made a bit of progress resolving that. I think it needs some more RAM and I'm not sure if that could be at all related to the following.
The problem now is that after running for few hours, then shutting down, then trying to turn back on:
1. light comes on indicating computer is on
2. the computer makes 2 beeps
3. screen
4. screen
5. and so on

This does not happen everytime trying to start the computer so I'm really at a loss. I've read about overheating in this model which would seem to make sense but sometimes this will happen after the computer has been off for a day or so.

At a complete loss now.

Any assistance much appreciated!

Preferred Solution: beep doesnt turn on

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: beep doesnt turn on

sure it's only 2 beeps? - nothing listed here for 2 beeps...

Answer:RE: Dell Inspiron 15 - 3000 series - Beep Beep Beep Pause Beep Beep Beep

Hi Ganny,
What are the exact # of beeps in a cycle?
Kindly review this chart and see page# 47 - it will help isolate the source of the issue.
Based on the exact # of beeps, that part would need to be replaced.
Also, please click my DELL-username and write me a private message with the service tag and your Name for case records.
Let us know if you have any other queries.

My laptop here is a Dell Inspiron 15, 3000 series.
The laptop itself works perfectly fine, I am able to get into windows (which I installed myself, it originally came with Ubuntu).
Occasionally though, it will do a BEEP BEEP BEEP PAUSE BEEP BEEP BEEP PAUSE (repeats).
This happens on boot and sometimes when I am using it. Sometimes it turns off suddenly when I am shifting the computer around. It's extremely loud.

What is causing this? The sound seems to be coming from around the area the Memory banks are under the laptop, but nothing seems to suggest that anything is wrong.
I took a suggestion and used FN+Power to do Hardware Diagnostics which said nothing is wrong.

What else can I try?

Answer:Dell Inspiron 15 - 3000 series - Beep Beep Beep Pause Beep Beep Beep

I’d suggest that you follow the steps mentioned below and check if the beep pattern repeats.

Switch off the computer.
Disconnect the AC adapter from the system.
Remove the battery from the computer.
Press and hold down the power button for 15 seconds.
Then connect back all the peripherals and check if the beep pattern repeats and reply us with the beep count.

If you still receive 3 Beeps on the system then it indicates System board failure.. You will have to replace it on the laptop.
Please let me know the findings.

I understand that this means there is a system board error.  I have a very good reason to believe that the BIOS had an issue (when I checked it before this happened, it had 75 boot options listed and said the volitale memory was almost full). Question: can I somehow force the BIOS to reset itself?  Is there a pin short I can use for this? Of course I am 2 weeks out of warranty :/  I assume if I sent it in they would just charge for a boarsd swap... likely $500-$600 dollars. Thanks for any help!

Answer:X230 1 beep, 3 beep, 3 beep, 1 beep, no screen: can I reset the BIOS?

1-3-3-1 means no memory. If you have 2 DIMMs, try with just one, then just the other. When you try with just one DIMM, it needs to go into slot-0. When you have the machine sitting lid-down and the battery compartment away from you, slot-0 is the one on the right.

For some silly reason I removed the 2 128mg PC2100DR ram sticks from my old computer that was working just fine. When I reinstalled them and I try to boot up I get a long beep, a pause, and another long beep. This senario continues and I shut the computer down as soon as possible. I'm sure I have the ram seated properly. Any ideas? Thank you in advance

Answer:One long beep, pause, another long beep when I turn on computer

If you are sure that you have them seated correctly try one stick at a time.

My X230 gets very little use since I bought it in 2012... sometimes no use at all for weeks at a time. Yet the system board failed, as did a replacement, and now the third board seems to have failed. On startup I get 1 beep, 3 beep, 3 beep, 1 beep and a blank screen. I tried the existing RAM stick in both slots: no startI bought and tried a NEW stick of RAM from Crucial in both slots: no startI tried both sticks in the slots at the same time: no start Other than another bad system board, what could it be? Where can I get a system board that might last? By the way, at the same time I bought the X230 I also bought a T530 that gets gallons of heavy use almost every day and never had a problem that I didn't cause myself.

1-1-4-1 - Cache Error (level 2). You have a problem with the bios, which may require the replacement of the entire motherboard.

Hi, I have been using the Y480 for almost 2 years. However, when I boot up this morning, it just beep beep beep continously. and the screen just have a cursor blinking. But after I reboot again and press F2 to enter bios, and then quit bios settings, the notebook can be boot up successfully. I have backup everything I need What should I do to fix the error? Is my harddisk gonna be failed? I have lost all the purchase receipts but I have registered 2 years ago. Thanks!Peter

Answer:Y480 continous beep beep beep during startup

Beeps are error messages from the Motherboard. Either the MOBO is failing or you have a problem with your RAM, I dont think it is related to your HDD, but you should create a backup. Also, if you don't have, please create recovery disks immediately. You may want to do more research depending on the BIOS manufacturer and the beep codes. You can google these terms and you should find information on the procedure to validate this. You can also try to re-seat the RAM, maybe it got a bit unsettled, if you moved the laptop. All in all, if you took the externded warranty and you are still under it, you may want to send the laptop to Lenovo for repairs.

Alright, I bought a bunch of new stuff for my computer(case, ram, hdd coolers, heatsink and fan.) It worked for several days until today when i went to turn it on,and it wont POST. The fans spin, and will spin forever if I let them, but it doesnt POST.

I switched out the processor to see if it was that, thank god it wasnt.

I took out all RAM to see if i could pull a beep out of the thing and, nada.

I reseated the processor several times.

The speaker is connected.

I tried several video cards both AGP and PCI in several different slots.

I unplugged everything except for RAM,Video, and Processor.

I reset the CMOS several times.

Nothing seems to work :X

What now?

Thanks much,
Tyler Bello

Answer:Computer doesnt POST,no beep codes,not processor,not video.

Does the motherboard support integrated graphics? If so, try booting without your video card (eliminating another thing).

Other than that, sounds like the motherboard is dead. Got a spare hanging around to test?

I just had the same problem with a friend's system and had to replace the motherboard.

Good Luck!

That means you either have an incompatible card
or it's not plugged in right.

Has it ever beeped at POST?

I've had systems that did, some that didn't (probably because I didn't have the system speaker properly connected).

Hey guys. I'm just trying to help out a friend. I think I know what the problem is but I just wanted to get a second opinion, and maybe a third and a fourth. I think the problem is the power supply but before I send this poor college student out to buy a new one I just wanted to make sure.

Any way, she has an old Packard Bell running with a Pentium 200MMX . It's an AT power supply. What happened is she turns the machine on and the power light blinks on, the cpu fan spins for about a half sec. and then nothing. No power, no beep codes. So, she brought it over, I plugged my cord into it and the same problem. I checked all connections in the computer and everything looks ok. Then, I disconnected the power supply from the motherboard and then connected it. Plugged it in with the same cord and the machine turned on with no problem. Booted up to Windows and everything. Even let it run and checked out some basic programs to make sure nothing happened. I thought it was just a funny glitch (keep in mind that no one has ever opened this machine since it was purchased) so I packed it up and sent her home with a extra power cord just in case. Of course I got a call and she was having the same problem. So, what's the verdict hardware guru's, power supply or serious problem?

[Edited by bcon76 on 06-04-2001 at 11:25 PM]

Answer:computer won't turn on, lights flash, no beep codes

Hi bcon76
It's hard to say what the problem is but I would try a new power supply first. AT power supplies are usually pretty cheap too. BOL

I have two printers connected to a Dell E520 through Vista. They are a Brother 5440CN and a HP 6110xi. The .Brother works ok but I can't say the same for the HP. Clicking any button on the HP gives the same response. Beep, beep, beep. I have recently moved the system to a new location just a couple of feet from where it was. Before the move Brother would scan and copy and the HP would do the same, but now as noted I can't get any response out of it but beep, beep, beep

Anybody have any ideas??.

Does that mean "one out of three times the wallpaper changes"? Have you looked in your Control Panel under Sounds and see if anything is set that might cause it?

250gb (5400rpm) hdd

i shut it down properly upon finding that my C key was on the fritz. a couple of months ago, my E key had been doing the same (randomly not working and randomly typing e consistently). once i rebooted, i got the message "Operating System (OS) Not Found".

i let my computer rest for a while and turned it back on. i currently get the toshiba startup, but around when it's suppose to load the os, it beeps continuously at the loudest volume with a contantly blinking underscore in white font on a black background.

i believe this may have happened once before, but i have no clue what i did to fix it.

there are no extra items like CDs or disks in the laptop.

I have ThinkPad T500, 2241, CTO. Every time laptop boots, there is an annoying beep. It is not a beep sound that one might have when power status changes. Beep is off both in Power Manager and turned off in BIOS section of power management. Moreover, in device manager in non-plug and play list i disabled the BEEP. Still this annoying sound is there. BIOS is updated. However, there is no other section in BIOS where I can turn off the beep. Please help!Message Edited by Gordik on 03-22-2009 09:31 PM

Look through the bios again, there is a separate entry for beeps afaik. Did you look in the section where you can also set power mode beeps, keyboard beeps etc? I think its there, not 100% sure though.

Answer:CPU fan is working for few seconds and stoped then a long beep and 2 short beep

Hello, Your reported T61 bios beep codes would indicate you have one of the following failures: System boardLCD assemblyDIMMThe DIMMS would be my first choice to test so, if you have more than one DIMM installed, try  try removing one of them and try to boot, if OK, you have removed the bad RAM; however, if the results are the same, remove the other DIMM and install the one you removed previously. If you can boot OK now, you have isolated the bad RAM. Now, if you can't boot with either stick, then, I guess the RAM is not the problem (unless you have two bad sticks and I doubt that). See the  Memory Removal and Installation Guide for more information. Good luck!

Answer:Compaq bios freeze short beep long beep

Is the beep pattern just one short one long? Check your manual for the POST beep codes to determine what it is telling you. All POST beep codes are different so there's no way to tell unless we know exact model of your PC. The manual usually has the beep code in it, though.

A few times now my E5440 will give a low beep... then a few seconds go by, and another beep.  It just happened a minute ago - only two beeps this time.  But I think it happened a few days ago and beeped several times with the same pause of a few/several seconds in between the beeps.  It's so quiet that before I've thought I was imagining it.  But this time I was sitting in front of it typing.
There are no pop-up notifications on the screen anything is wrong, such as the 'disconnection' sound when you remove a portable HDD, or your Wi-Fi disconnects.  Nothing to indicate what the beeps mean.  The laptop is working perfectly.  Battery is fully charged.  I can hear the fan turning and changing speed but it's 2:30am here with no outside noise and I can barely hear the fan.  (I assume it would be spinning up like crazy if something were overheating.)
I'm at a loss what it means.  Does anyone know?
I'm running Windows 7 Pro 64-Bit if that matters.

To be honest I?ve never heard about such issue and really don't know why this happen but if this issue happens from the first day I think you should contact your local dealer or nearest Toshiba service provider directly and ask for help.

Generally speaking preinstalled recovery image and all installed drivers are tested so I cannot imagine it is some software related issue. Contact service and ask for help. Hey should check this and fix it. valid warranty will cover all costs.

I tried installing an MSI Radeon HD 6450 2GB Pci express x16 video card. Once hooked up, I boot up and computer beeps, from what I can tell 1 or 2 long beeps, 8 short beeps. I was running built in 128m video so I disabled that in the Bios, but that didn't do it.

I noticed the Video card manuf. recommends minimum 400W PS, my rig only has a 300W PS. Would that really affect my upgrade or am I barking up the wrong tree. I don't want to fork over for a new PS unless it' warented. Thanks a bunch.

Answer:2G Graphics card upgrade...Beep! beep!

It's possible you need a new PSU.

The TDP on that card is only 27 Watts and it doesn't require a hook up so I would think your current PSU could maybe support but I wouldn't risk it. There is also the possibility that the motherboard you have isn't providing enough power to the card.

You could try to re-seat the card or clean out the PCI express slot and see if that helps.

My computer has been making this noise for quite some time now. but it would only happen once every few days so it didn't really concern me until now because its happening non stop. The noise is definitely coming from system sounds. I'm not sure if this is related but under device manager there is an unknown device which i cannot account for as i put the computer together and I'm staring in to the case rite now. there is also a yellow icon by teredo tunneling pseudo-interface (i have no idea what that is)lately my computer just seems to be working really hard when idling. the cpu is constantly spiking up to 100% usage and my hard drives seem to constantly be spinning. specscpu: intel core 2 duomobo: abit ab9ram: 1gb ddr2gfx: geforce 9800 gtx+hd: 2 seagate internal drives (1 with os) the other blank for storage. I was just using my PC yesterday, everything is normal, It was hot around 32 ?C I think. Around 3:00 P.M. my PC suffered 2 BSODS, I can't upload the .dmp files because I can't open it. I thought its just overheating so I turned it off and after a few minutes the second BSOD appeared, I restarted my PC and the one short beep and one long beep is sounding. I checked my RAM and tried to switch it to another bank but the beeping is still there. My video card temp was 50-52 ?C before the first BSOD happened. What can I do to fix this?

Answer:One short beep, one long beep

Is it possible you are hearing 1 long - one short?
That might indicate a BIOS CHECKSUM error, depending on the brand of BIOS.

You can try a ClearCMOS procedure (CLRTC is the same thing):
Note all your current BIOS settings
Shut down the computer > remove the power cord.
Remove the 3v motherboard battery.
Move the CLRTC jumper from pins 1-2 to 2-3.
Touch a metal part of the case and Press and Hold the reset button for approx. 30 seconds to discharge all power from the board.
Put the CLRTC jumper back on pins 1-2.
Replace the 3v battery > replace the power cord > boot.
Immediately go back into BIOS and reset all your preferred settings. If the CLRTC worked you will need to reset the date and time.

Hi, Today I replaced my old graphics card with a new GeForce 9500GT and also added a new Kingston 2GB Ram Card. I installed both of them then restarted the computer, since then it has only powered on and playing 1 short beep then 1 long beep. I've tryed everything I can think of ranging from taking out everything new and putting it back to before I added the new items to completely taking out all 3 RAM sticks and reseating them. I'm not sure how a brand new unopened 2GB ram stick that fit perfectly and a brand new right out of the box graphics card can cause a problem like this. I've been through the ins and outs of the internet trying to find a solution but nothing has worked. Hoping someone can think of a unique way to fix this or how it could have possibly happened in the first place. I dont buy anything used everything placed inside my computer was/is brand new when it was purchased. Any help/comments on solutions would be greatly appreciated thanks.

Good afternoon,I'm having trouble with my windows vista computer.  When I start it up, nothing appears and there is a beep noise.  It goes beep beep then there is a 3 second pause then another beep beep.  I don't know how to fix this and any help would be greatly appreciated.  Thank you.

Answer:Windows Vista Beep Beep

These "Beep codes", as they're called, are to notify you that the Power On Self Test, or POST, has failed. The number and sequence of beeps is generally to identify which component failed, but without knowing the manufacturer, specifically the BIOS (Basic Input/Output System), it would be difficult to determine what the beep code is identifying as the problem component. For a successful Power On Self Test to take place, the following components must be working:BIOS (Basic Input/Output System) CPU (Central processing Unit) or processorPSU (Power Supply Unit) Video Output device (Graphics card)RAM (Random Access Memory)If any of these fail, your computer will not power on properly, and may exhibit symptoms like what you are describing. Generally, the first step in fixing a computer that refuses to start up is to isolate components that may be causing the problem. One thing to try would be to clean the internals of your computer (Warning: be sure power is turned off to your computer before working on internals!) and to reseat components like RAM, peripheral cards (such as your graphics card), etc.. If you do not feel comfortable doing this, you may think of taking the computer in to a reputable shop- most places that are reputable would not charge or would charge very little to clean and reseat a couple components. Chances are that the problem component is either RAM or Graphics card, these components tend to fail or require service faster than others, and may als... Read more

Windows XP, Service Pac 3

I just had a "search engine redirect issue" fixed by "Gringo." One thing that is different now is at windows start-up, this laptop makes a BEEP TIC (Higher in frequency than the BEEP) vs the BEEP BEEP sounds I've had for ever. The computer start-up sequence is very slow as it takes minutes before the computer is ready to be used.

During the virus removal, a few times the reboot start-up sounds were BEEP - TIC - BEEP (again the TIC was higher a higher tone and faster than the BEEPs). What do the different sounds mean?

I'll start another thread requesting help to fix my computer problems.

It could be that your Pc is overheating. If it has been with you for a while then dust gets stuck in the heat sink of the procesor and on its fan this makes the fan go slow and that causes the overheating.Ifyou know a little about Pc then switch off the PC at the mains take off the side pannel of the tower and look on the mother board for a small fan, you could put a vacuumm close to the fan and this may take out the dust, if not you will need to take off the fan to clean the heat sink

Hi every1, Pls help me, I've bought 2 new ram cards from Each card is (256MB 144-Pin SoDimm 32MX64 PC133Mhz) equalling 512MB, because i was told the beeps are ram problems. And they both worked fine for a while, no beeps T22 loads up, but now all of a sudden my T22 beeps when i turn it on so i've swapped the ram cards about, still beeps when i switch the laptop on. so i took 1 ram card out and tried it with just 1 card (256MB) in both slots, perfect!! no beeps and loaded up perfectly when i put the card in each slot. When i try the other card with the first card BEEPING again!!!! so i tried that card on its own in each slot and beep again, thats the second time i had to send one back. Also should my Ram cards be PC133Mhz  or PC100Mhz? Whats happening to my memory banks?????Sorry for the long message. Thank you.

I'd like to do this via a script using a command line change.

Seems like this MIGHT involve "control mmsys.cpl sounds" in some way but I have not sorted it out.

I get about 5 to 10 seconds of "on" time. My CPU fan and case fans start turning. Sounds like it's booting up, but then I get no beep, no post, and then the PC just shuts off. Then it attempts to start up again, and the same thing happens.

I've disconnected literally everything with the exception of swapping out my CPU or my motherboard. I'm hoping that neither of those are the issue. Both are about 2 yrs old. Here is a picture of how I've tried to boot in narrowing down the issue:

My PSU is a Corsair TX850, and it's brand new. I did however try another PSU that is functional, and the same thing happened. I've tried swapping RAM modules. Stock fan is in the picture in replace of the Corsair H80 I recently installed. I've tried to boot using my SSD, and my HDD. I can't boot to disk, either.

I installed these new parts, and had my PC built and assembled and working. I booted, installed Windows, played around a bit. Then powered down, moved the PC around on my desk, and now I can't boot back up.

Any help or suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

My wife has an Acer Aspire 5535 and it makes this SUPER ANNOYING beep when plugging-in and un-plugging the power cord.

It wouldn't be so bad if it weren't so **** loud but it's loud enough to keep waking up our 2-year-old son that is sleeping 3 rooms away.

How do I turn it off?
I've tried going into Control Panel to look for the sound but I can't find it in there. I've also tried to disable the on board sound through BIOS but I can't find an option for it in there.

Im pretty sure you don't, unless you buy a different power supply.

Hi All,

I bought my computer about 2 years ago from IBUYPOWER. Never had any issues. Will post specs after the story. So i used to have a GTX 580 but upgraded to a single 680. Then this past weekend i received a second 680(exact same). I was trying to get the hardware in but was having some issues fitting it for some reason. I had to get up and leave for a minute but wanted to make sure i didnt screw anything up (hardware was still not installed). Before i left it i turned my PC on and it was fine. Came back to finish up and managed to fit it and plug in the power cables as well. When i turned my computer on nothing happened. It seems one of the fans tried to turn on but it just stopped immediatly. No beeps nothing except for 2 leds that turned on and stay on as long as its powered up.

So far what i tried to do is just make sure all my wires are in correctly... however everything seems to be in place and nothing seemed to have moved... I am unsure what is causing this.

My specs are:
HAF 932 case
12gb corsair ram
1000 watt PSU coolermaster rated bronze
currently installed GTX 680 from EVGA 4gb FTW
I7 980
MOBO guerilla G1(the leds showing up are the ones right below the ram sticks)

I do not have much build experience but i do no this computer has worked flawlessly prior to this.
If any more detail is needed please let me know.

Also provide the number of beeps and if they are in groups what the number groups are. This is the code that tells us what is bothering the booting process.

Thanks for writing to us.
Have you made any hardware or software changes lately?
How many time does it beeps before shutting down.
If possible please record the symptoms and send to us as an attachment.
Meanwhile you can try doing a power cycle by disconnecting the charger and battery, hold down the power button for 15 secs and then plug back only the battery and power up the machine, if it runs fine, again shut down the system and plug in the adapter as well now and power on.
Let us know how it goes.

When I press power button ..laptop getting turn on but screen is still black nd after 2-4 sec making one beep sound then turn off. Plz help me to find out the issue nd how to resolve it.

Answer:Laptop not getting turn on giving single beep

Is there any liquid spillage / damage on the system?
The 1 beep is a system board failure / possible BIOS corruption.
Disconnect the adapter and battery and press and hold the power button for 30 seconds to release any static power. Then test the system with the adapter only / battery only.
Try the BIOS recovery method 1 -
Method 2  -
If it still does not work, then download the service manual here - and reseat the memory modules / HDD / CMOS battery and check if it works.
If nothing works, the motherboard needs to be replaced.
You could contact our team to get a quote for a paid service call -
You could also order the parts here.
Also, please click my DELL-username and write me a private message with the service tag and your Name for case records.

How do I turn off the beep noise that come from the inside of my laptop? (NOT the beep that come out of the speaker or headphone!)
It's getting on my nerve. I'm unable to disable it.
I tried disable it from
and setting the value of Start from 1 to 4, but the laptop still beep! (The beep doesn't come out of the speaker or headphone. It seems like it comes out of the laptop. Even if I plug my headphone/earphone, the beep come out of the laptop, not the headphone/earphone)
I just want to disable the beep. (I'm not talking about the "default beep" in Control Panel -> Sound.)
On the other side, my computer is working fine. It's just the random beep that annoye me.
(I'm using Windows 8.1, and there is no "Non-Plug and Play Drivers" in device manager)

Answer:How do I turn off the beep noise from the inside of my laptop?

When does this beep occur?
How often?
Are you doing any specific task when this beep occurs?
There is no such default, random beep built into a Windows 8.1 system (or any other Windows OS for that matter), so I honestly have no idea what it is at this time.
How old is the system?
If it's not coming from the speakers, where do you think it is coming from?
Can you record it & zip up/upload an MP3 file?
Regards. . .

Hey all,

I really hope you can help - it's urgent! My lenovo laptop was working fine 12 hours ago. I closed it and it went to sleep, but now I can't get it to turn on. I thought maybe I could fix it by turning it off and then on, so I hit the power button. The monitor wont come on! The fan comes on and the panel lights come on like normal and then go out with only the battery and "circle with Z in it" lights staying on. It then beeps really loud like this: BEEP pause 3 BEEPS pause 3 BEEPS pause BEEP. I'm really freaking out because I need to finish something on it tonight. I tried taking the battery out and cleaned out around there. I turned it off and on with no battery - just plugged in instead - no dice. I tried turning it off and on with battery + plugged in and battery without plugged in - neither of those worked. I tried holding the power button for 30 sec so that it turned on and then off, but it's still the same. Please help!!

Hi everyone,
I have a Dell Inspirion 15 3542 laptop. Bought it 2years ago in Macedonia, it was malfunctioning from week1, but because of my circumstances (student in France), i coudnt replace it nor repair it using the warranty.
I have two problems.
First problem is when I turn on the laptop I get 5 beeps, which I already know is the cmos battery.I opened the laptop and noticed that the slot holding the battery is quite loose and the battery doesnt click on its place.
So, my question is, could I secure the battery with electricans tape?
Second question, I spilled micellar water (product for cleaning face) on my keyboard few months ago, but ignored  it (I'm dumb yeah) because the laptop was working fine the 2 days after this event. The third day, however, certain keys malfunctioned, like 't' and 'v' both give 'tv' and a lot of other keys give two characters instead one on screen.
Is there a way to repair/remplace the individual keys that dont work?
If not, I'd buy a new keyboard, but my question is, is there a way to find if the problem is in the keyboard or on motherboard and avoid spending money for a new keyboard that wont work cause the problem is in the mother board.

Thanks for you help :)

I have a program called MotherBoardMonitor which tells me that the minimum speed for the fan is 2500RPM, my CPU temp is (approx) 47 to 54 , Mobo temp around 31, what could the problem be, i cant find any specific info on the net after hours of looking, thanks for any help, G

Before you do anything else reseat your RAM modules. If this doesn't fix it go back to basics - disconnect everything from your mobo except graphics card, power and RAM does it boot the monitor on start up? If not and you only have 1 ram module fitted beg or borrow another and try that - if you have 2 ram modules try them one at a time on their own. Post back when done and adviseRgds

most of the time I start my computer I get five beeps pause of few seconds and then 2 beeps. Initially, it was five beeps on;y but the last two have been started recently. what is it about? how can I solve this problem?

Answer:5 beep pause 2 beep

The beep sequence refers to the CMOS battery - or the clock chip.  Replace the reserve (CMOS) battery -- it's usually a CR-2032 button cell.  If you need details, post the model number (i.e., Inspiron N5110, XPS 9333, etc.).

Question: Beeeep, beep beep

I just got new asus AM2 mobo and I'm getting beeps on start. 1 long beep and two short. Somewhere I found it is related to video card. I'm not sure if that's true, but I know videocard is functional and inserted correctly.
The mobo has it's own video, so I tried using only that, same thing. It just doesn't seem to make sense.

Answer:Beeeep, beep beep

One long two short looks like a video issue, as you said. You say it is also happening when you remove the graphics card and try to boot up with the onboard graphics?

Here's what I'd do:

Remove the motherboard from the case and set it on a box beside your case. Next, reset cmos (check your manual to find the cmos jumper pins).

Remove everything from the motherboard except:

cpu with heatsink/fan
one stick of ram
power supply connections to the motherboard (should be two)
connect the case's speaker to the motherboard

Then use a screwdriver to quickly touch (short) the two pins that usually connect to your case's power on switch.

See what kind of beeps you get.

If you still get the beeps, my guess is your need to RMA the board, but please post your system's full specs (including your power supply specs)

Good luck!

Anyone know what it means if you get a long beep followed by two short beeps when you boot up?  When this happens the screen is blank; it never continues booting; no Windows XP logo, etc.  It continues beeping like this until I hold the power button down until it shuts down.  Then, I can restart it, and it boots up, seeminly without issue.  This happens when I reboot intentionally (after windows updates or new software installs, etc.) as well as after it periodically locks up.  I suspect that the problem with it locking up is related to this--I don't consider a system lockup to EVER be acceptable, but I don't have time to get mad about it right now. This is a z61m.

Answer:Beeeeeeeep, beep beep

post your version of bios here. every bios manufacturer has their own beep codes which surely sujjests that the system has a problem

I just got a strange reaction from my pc. It was working fine last night, I went to start, turn off computer, shut down and went to bed. I got up this morning and I saw a notice on the screen (PC did not shut down during the night) It said there was a change to the global template for microsoft word and did I want to save changes so I said no and the pc shut down. Later on I tried to call up my key logger and heard a beeping noise from within my pc. I paid it no attention and went on the rest of the day working. I was using Quicken later on and noticed that when I tried to view certain graphs they seemed to be "fluttering" (The page seemed to go up and down rapidly on its own) I closed it and ran Avast antivirus scan. I tried to activate it and got an error message that said it ran into some kind of runtime error (I think) I finly got it started, ran a scan and came up empty of viruses. Then Avast kept shutting itself off. I emptied my waste basket, went to internet options, deleted all files and history (Including online content) then cleared all in Firefox. Next I went to start, run msconfig, start up disable all, restart, back to start, run, msconfig, enable all, reboot and everything seems to be fine now. Can anyone tell me what this may have or still is?

Answer:to beep or not to beep(that is the question)

Hi SLAYER. Although I've read that some motherboards don't have a POST beep, I personally haven't come across one. The most likely cause of no beep is that there isn't a connection between the case speaker and the motherboard. Possible causes that immediately come to mind are broken wire or the speaker connector doesn't match the motherboard header pins - possible one is wired for 3 pins and the other for 2 pins. If the motherboard connection is correct, remove the socket from the header and touch a 1.5V battery to the connector. You should get a distinct clicking from the speaker.

He said he couldn't get windows to boot up, all it did was start to load and after a few seconds it would start running CHKDSK with a blue screen, but once it got to step 3 it would say it was complete, but wouldn't go any further or boot windows up.

So yesterday I decided to mess with it, and it did what he said it did. So I tried to booted it into SAFEMODE and it wouldn't. So I restarted it and pressed ESC and ran a Hard Drive Self Test and got an 07 FAIL. After that I restarted it, and all I got was a black screen then it made a loud BEEP sound fallowed by a REALLY LOUD BEEP, then it did nothing.

Does anyone know what the problem is?

Answer:Beep, Beep thats all folks

Probably a bad harddrive.

Youd better hope they had their information backed up...

What you can try is hooking it up to another PC as slave and see if you can get any data off of it, but they will likely need a new harddrive and OS.

Question: Computer Beep

I just reformatted my hard drive just as a clean up. Everything was working fine before. After the blue formatting and windows' first install process, the system boots up and asks for a system boot up disk if the windows cd is not in the drive. Once the disk is in the drive, it takes me back to the initial windows process - the reformatting and copying of windows setup files.I've re-formatted and re-installed windows before and never ran into a problem. Now it will beep once every minute or so. When booting up, the system takes a while to scan my IDE drives but does not detect both hard drives and it takes a minute to verify my DMI pool. What the heck is going on? Is this a bad hard drive perhaps? That doesn't explain the computer beeping.

Question: Computer beep

I left the house with the computer running OK. When I returned the computer was off. When trying to turn the computer back on nothing happened except that the case fans ran and there was a continous beeeeeeep. The HD did not seem to be running. The monitor was black. Had to turn off the power supply to stop the beeeep.

The BIOS error codes that can occur after a POST that I am familiar with consist of a series of long and short beeps. What does a Continous beeeeeep mean?

Computer has a Phoenix-Award BIOS chip, an AMD Athlon 64 CPU, and is using Windows XP.

Well for the past week, whenever I am playing a game through java or listening to a youtube video, I get a random beep through my headset. At first, I didn't think much of it, but now it is being a little bit consistent (2-5 times a day). I tried looking at the CPU temps to make sure it wasn't an overheating alarm and I get around 30-50 degrees (depending on if I am playing a game or the system being idle). So, I decided to look at my event viewer and noticed the events coinciding with the beeps (both being UserModePowerService):

Process C:\Windows\System32\svchost.exe (process ID:2992) reset policy scheme from {8c5e7fda-e8bf-4a96-9a85-a6e23a8c635c} to {8c5e7fda-e8bf-4a96-9a85-a6e23a8c635c}

Process C:\Windows\explorer.exe (process ID:6196) reset policy scheme from {381b4222-f694-41f0-9685-ff5bb260df2e} to {8c5e7fda-e8bf-4a96-9a85-a6e23a8c635c}

Essentially, it's annoying, and would like to figure out how to fix this. If I need to give more information, please let me know.

My computer specs:

? OS - Windows 8.1
? 64 bit
? Intel i7-4330k
? EVGA 770 FTW x 2
? Gigabyte GA-Z97X-UD5H
? 16 GB Ram - Cosair Vengance

Thank you.

FWIW, the command:powercfg -setactive 8c5e7fda-e8bf-4a96-9a85-a6e23a8c635would set the power configuration to High Performance.

My computer freezes with a beep. The problem occurs randomly during a game sometimes 5-30 minutes into a game. The problem will present itself every time. It will also freeze when running video on the internet. The video problem has happened 2 to 3 times out of about 40 hours of video.
I have ran dxdiag and posted the information about my computer.
I have also reinstalled windows XP with a format of the hard drive. After installing all updates to windows. I excluded updates to drivers. The problem persists. Before the reinstall i did a memory check with memcheck. I passed all tests.
Thinking it might be the GPU. I purchased a new graphics card Geforce 6200 512mb that is not listed on the dxdiag. The problem still occurs with the new graphics card.

Answer:Computer freezes with beep

This could be a heat issue. I would try and monitor your core and GPU temps when gaming or watching videos and see how high they are getting.

When i turn on my computer i dont get a beep but win loads fine. I was told my computer should beep 1 to tell me everything is ok. I know the PC speaker works i hear it when my bro plays old old games that use it. so should it beep and if so how do i get it to beep?

Answer:My Computer dosnt beep

My computer does not beep. I am almost positive that it doesn't have to beep. Usually the computer beeps if there is a problem or some just beep if there is a speaker on the motherboard.

How can I run a custom application, in this case something that would create a beep sound, when my WinXP wakes up from standby?

I tried already "Logon Script" from Computer Management / Local Users. That doesn't work, it only works when logging in, not when coming back from Standby. Also Startup folder doesn't work (same thing). Also couldn't find this possibility in Scheduled Tasks.

So I know how to make the beep sound, but how to run that when the computer wakes up from Standby?

I have an older computer with an Award Bios, Pentium 2 processor. I put in a new CD-RW, and everything worked fine, Then my son brought home a new video card , so I pulled the old one out. But the new one wasn't compatible with my MB. So I stuck the old one back in, Now the computer does not beep when I turn it on, and it seems like the hard drive is not booting up. All the lights come on, floppy, CD rom and hard drive light comes on. I have checked all cables, and everything is in place securely. Nothing on monitor but a black screen. If it was the MB would the lights still come on? Oh yeah the fan is turning. I read some of the other posts regarding this problem, but haven't found a solution. Hopefully someone can help me. Thanks to all.
