Toshiba Satellite A45-S250 touchpad/mouse NOT working

Question: Toshiba Satellite A45-S250 touchpad/mouse NOT working

hey all, i'm typing from a keyboard-only laptop that i'm fixing for a friend. it's got a standard touchpad and mouse buttons, but they dpn't work. iver tried updating the drivers, uninstalling, etc to no avail. the driver status is always 'the device could not start' leading me to believe that the touchpad's hardware has burned out, but would this explain a USB mouse not working? it's a kensington USB mouse, and i dont know the model right now.. it has all supposedly worked before but now it doesnt. everything on the laptop seems to be in perfect working order... LCD screen, sound, wireless, speed, etc.it's a windows xp sp2 with pentium 4.
any help would be appreciated..

Hi all ,
First , appologize for my english , i'm a french guy :)

So my problem is that i would like to re-install everything on a A45-S250 by using the recovery CD.
But the main problem is that the internal DVD drive is not running anymore.

I've try by plugging an external DVD drive, but the laptop don't want to boot on it.

I've seen that it can boot through a floppy drive, lan, or SD card. But with theses possibilities , how to be able to reinstall everything include in the recovery CD ?

I may have a usb floppy drive, so i'll be able to boot on a disk boot. but then how to start the recovery CD procedure ?
I'll prefer to use the recovery CD as a WinXP home standart, cause i know that the OEM serial won't work to a Original version of WinXP ...

Thanks for your help !

Answer:Satellite A45-S250 : How to use Recovery CD if DVD Drive is not working

Hello Kubs

I see there only one solution: you must somehow use external DVD drive and make it visible for your notebook. I didn?t try it but I presume you must start your notebook using WXP startdisc and load MS-DOS driver for external device.
If you will have success to access external drive I can imagine you will be able to start recovery procedure.

Hi. I have a Toshiba Satellite Z830-10U Ultrabook and the touchpad and mouse no longer work. These worked fine until I had one of those automatic updates from Microsoft when the laptop was closing down. Then, when I started the laptop again, this problem was there. Can you advise please?

Answer:Windows 7 Toshiba laptop Touchpad and mouse not working

Okay, you most likely have viruses on your comptuer. In the recovery area of F8 menu open the command prompt againType SFC /scannow /offbootdir=C:\ /offwindir=C:\windowsNOTE: your windows directory maybe D: when you are in the command prompt. You can find this out if you type C: and hit enter then type dir and hit enter. If there is windows and a user folder there that is your windows partition, if not type D: and hit enter then type dir and hit enter. See if that's it.

To start off, I seen another thread about the TouchPad not working but this is a slightly different situation.. First off, it's a really new computer and I'm dual booting windows 10 and linux. Anyways, the TouchPad only works in windows but it randomly stops working every once in a while and I have to go into the mouse settings and re-enable it but what I thought was really weird is that when I go to the efi firmware settings, it doesn't work either.. The mouse cursor is stuck on the left side of the screen and i have to use the keyboard to navigate, even a Bluetooth mouse won't work there.. That tells me that is not a windows issue but that also tells me that is not a hardware issue either because it works in windows when i enable it in the settings.. I also have to use the bluetooth mouse for linux as it doesn't work at all.. I'm not a noob by no means, i fix pc's for a living and i usually have some kind of idea on how to fix issues but this one, i have no idea.. Any help would be great! Thanks!

Swapped motherboard in this laptop because the old one had died. After plugging everything in and double checking all of my connections, here are the symptoms I am having now:

When the machine boots to windows I have no keyboard or touch pad. I have keyboard function at post long enough for me to hit f2 and get to the CMOS settings, after that I lose keyboard, except for using the function key and f4 to change monitors,

On boot up I can turn number lock on and then nothing again. I have tried resetting the CMOS, o have tried pulling all the cards like wireless and modem, tried different sticks of ram and even pulling the hard drive. If you have any thoughts or have seen this before please clue me in,

Thanks,

Eddie

I went to use my laptop today, and I discovered that the touchpad has stopped working. In fact, I was unable to even get past the sign-on screen, and if it weren't for the fact that I got a mouse arrow with a plug-in USB mouse, the laptop would be completely dead to me.

My son uses the laptop for Minecraft gaming, but I don't think that has anything to do with this. Even a reboot didn't change anything. I wonder if a Windows update screwed something up (again)? I'm at a loss. I'm not always where I can set up a physical mouse to use - and frankly I don't want to have to.

Any suggestions?

Answer:My Toshiba Satellite touchpad suddenly stopped working

Found the solution. When I pressed the F5 button (not Fn + F5), I got a popup that said "touchpad disabled." When I pressed it again, it said "touchpad enabled." I unplugged my USB mouse and tried again, and it's now working. What a screwed up design that allows a user to accidentally disable one's touchpad with an accidental press of the F5 key. Then you have to research the problem before figuring out the problem. Someone in the Toshiba laptop design department should be fired.

Hi,

My touchpad has stopped working. The little mouse light in the top left hand corner is off. When I attach an external mouse the pointer reappears and all is fine, when I remove the mouse the pointer goes away again.

Pressing F5 does not appear to be doing anything.

It has happened a couple of times in the past but a reboot seems to fix it. However this time nothing has fixed it. I have even tried re-installing the TouchPad drivers from Toshiba's website.

Any advice would be gratefully. Thanks.

Hi

I have had problems with my laptop since the beginning. The hard drive has failed and the mouse pad and keyboard have had intermittent problems since Day 1. They randomly stop working and will not work again until restarted.

Recently the mouse pad often stopped working prompting me to de-install the Synoptics driver for this device. I removed the device from the device manager and expected that when I restarted the windows driver would kick in. This was not the case. I have since reinstalled the driver which I got from this website and it is now not recognising the mouse from the Synoptics software. Only the USB mouse i plugged in worked and even then it often froze.

I have tried a soft reset of the laptop wiping my settings and more recently a factory reset. I do believe this is purely a software problem.

The mouse is still not working. Does anyone have any ideas on this?

Laptop is L850D-12P.

All help is much appropriate.

Answer:Touchpad Mouse is not working on my Satellite L850D-12P

> I have tried a soft reset of the laptop wiping my settings and more recently a factory reset. I do believe this is purely a software problem.

The point is that in case of software problems, the Toshiba recovery disk should fix your touchpad and keyboard issues. Therefore I think that this issue is NOT caused by software problem.

You mentioned that you had these problems from first day of purchase? hmm? I?m wondering why you did not contact the authorized service provider or a notebook dealer for a fix.
New devices are covered by warranty and in case of any hardware malfunction; the warranty covers the repair procedure.

My solution: you can try to recover the notebook once again. Use the original Toshiba recovery disk. Check also if the BIOS is up to date.
Note: touchpad should work even if the additional Synaptics touchpad driver isn?t installed. Why? The touchpad is controlled by default Microsoft driver and common touchpad functions like touching and scrolling are available by default. Synaptics touchpad driver adds some more functionality and features to the touchpad.

Hi there

Been having problems with the mouse and touchpad on the Satellite C850-19Z.
It cuts out after a while. I?ve tried the shortcut on the computer but to no avail. I have phoned Toshiba and they told me to refresh the laptop.

It worked then it has cut out again a few weeks later so tried what I went through with Toshiba guys and nothing happens...I need the laptop for work.

Can anyone help?

Answer:Mouse/touchpad is not working on my Satellite C850

It is really unbelievable that you have the same problem with touchpad and external mouse. What is more unbelievable for me is the fact that Toshiba guys were not able to help you with this.

I really don?t know what to suggest about that. Notebook has valid warranty so Toshiba service MUST help you with this. I don?t know if there is possibility for you to get replacement so you can continue your work but talk with service guys about that and try to find solution.

By the way: do you use external mouse with cable or wireless mouse?

Answer:Satellite C660D-19X -Touchpad or external mouse not working

> We tried System Restore but no luck either.

By ?System Restore? do you mean the Recovery procedure?
Did you use the Toshiba Recovery disk or Toshiba HDD recovery in order to set the notebook back to factory settings?

> She tried an external mouse and I tried a different external mouse.
I?m wondering about this issue? I assume you have connected an USB mouse to this notebook and you could not move the cursor using such external USB mouse.
Is it correct?

In my opinion even if the touchpad would not work or would be disabled, the external USB mouse should function because both devices are not related to each other.

Feedback would be greatly appreciated

Hi.

I have a satellite A45-S250. I have had no previous problems with this machine. However, when the computer is on too long, or is moved in the slightest way the screen goes out. I even have to type very gently -- or I lose the screen.

But also, like I said -- sometimes I won't even be near the computer and the screen will shut off. When I lose the screen if the light is shining on it -- I can see it is still on just VERY dim. It will usually come back if I use the FN+F5 switch.

I don't know if this is a screen issue or a connection issue. It is happening with increased frequency. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thank You

Did you per chance just upgrade to Window 10 right before it happened? If that is the case, this happens a lot.

Try the following and see if it fixes it...

1. Go into "Control Panel".
2. Click "Hardware and Sound".
3. Now click "Mouse and Touchpad".
4. Now go to "Additional mouse options".
5. The Mouse Properties window will open. In here click on your device.
6. Make sure your device is set to enabled. If it isn't then click "Enable Device".
7. Exit both that screen and "Control Panel".

It should work now.

Also, you might also want to check for updates to your drivers.

Been a while since I had a laptop, but I seem to remember there being a setting on what to do with the touchpad when the mouse is plugged in. Unfortunately I don't remember where and have no way of finding it.

Have you tried rebooting with the mouse unplugged?

Inherited a TOSHIBA SATELLITE laptop computer (2008 vintage) from my daughter. It had VISTA on it and an old version of IE. Would not update IE saying it was 'not computable with OS'. So I installed w-7 allowing the 'C' system partition to be overwritten; then installed SP-1 update. Works fine now, except I need to update the touchpad driver. Synaptics was original driver but was erased on the w-7 install. Tried to see if the available download for VISTA from Synaptics might work but it will not install.
The touchpad as it functions from the W-7/SP-1 is pretty sad in my way of thinking. Is there a program or driver I might install to improve it to something similar to as-it-was or maybe better?
Thanks

I have a Toshiba Satellite L305d S394 that had the Vista virus on it when I purchased it one year ago. I scratched the original OS and installed W7 on it and found immediate relief. The only problem I am having is that the touchpad is way too touchy. I will be typing in one window and the cursor will jump, of its own volition, to another place in the document, to another window, or will bring up some menu option (like delete!!!!!)

I have read the Toshiba website, as well as a few other sites that I found googling but seem to get doublespeak about this problem.

Is there any way to find a file that is only a driver for the touchpad? I kept getting directed to a master "help you upgrade to 7" file, and I was afraid that if I used it I might take out all of my data files.

The mouse, out of nowhere, starts to go to the right or to the left and there is nothing to do to remove it from the place. Sometimes it stops and others doesn't. This problem prevents us from working. It has nothing to do with the mouse (we tried several) or with docking station because it happens without the docking station.

Hello all,

I have a Toshiba Satellite L300-1AP that has problems in the touchpad area. I've replaced the touchpad itself and refreshed the drivers but the problem remains.

Sometimes there is no response at all, at other times it just moves the mouse pointer extremely slowly and erratically. When the first problem occurred I attached a USB mouse which worked fine. On subsequent attempts the mouse is not recognised at all, on any port. I've adjusted the sensitivity via control panel (Win7) but there is little difference in behaviour. I'm also aware of the Fn+F9 switch.

I suspect the thing is destined for scrap. Any suggestions as to how to rescue it would be gratefully received.

Thanks for your time,
John.

I upgraded my laptop with Vista to Windows 7 Professional and ever since then I cannot get access to the touchpad settings at all. I want to turn off the tapping and turn on the scrolling. I have tried installing and uninstalling the device as well as the new the new driver for my symantics touchpad from the symantics website and the recommended driver from the toshiba site but neither has worked.

When I go into device properties and go to change settings the only options I have are to specify the actions the two buttons have.

Totally absolutely frustrated...it should have been an easy fix.

I have a Toshiba Satellite E205, Win 7. A small icon with a picture of the touchpad keeps appearing in the middle of my screen, quickly followed by a similar one, but with a red circle. The mouse or touchpad then freezes briefly. By looking in Task Manager, Processes, I see that this is accompanied by the appearance of touchpadED.exe, which then disappears from processes. I think it started when I unplugged a USB hub with mouse and keyboard from my computer while it was still on. I removed and reinstalled the Synaptics Touchpad driver from Toshiba, ran virus scan and malware software, and cannot stop the process in Task Manager. How can I get rid of this problem??

There's nothing in the BIOS and Toshiba diagnostics tests everything bar the touchpad. Does anybody have any suggestions as to something else that I could boot to that will tell me if there is a hardware fault?

Hello all,

I own a Toshiba P30-135.

I experience TOUCHPAD temporary freezes from time to time.

During freeze the mouse cursor cannot be moved for 30 seconds to a couple of minutes.

Freeze occurs randomly, at least once a week, often once every day.

The last available driver on the Toshiba site is installed.

The software installation is clean without suspect software, spyware and viruses (I'm a specialist of IT security)

I read on the web two different stories :

1. it is due to an electrostatic problem, and it is required to change the top cover on some models. However on mine the display had to be changed recently by Toshiba maintenance and they changed the top cover, too, (which was corroded by sweat). The problem occured before mantenance and still after maintenance.

2. It is a "normal" process whereby the software readjusts mouse settings. I never found anything from Toshiba about this. However I never saw any PC from any brand freeze for minutes before, and I do not find this normal as it can freeze during critical phases.

Does anyone have information about this issue ? and / or any information on how to disable the "auto-adjust" feature if it is true and consequences ? Any standard driver able to replace without the feature ?

Many thanks !

Answer:Ramdom freeze of Toshiba ALPS touchpad on Satellite P30-135

Hi,

I?ve got the same problem like you sometimes on my machine (Tecra S5). Since I am using often the touchpad it occurs during work and it?s very annoying.

What I?ve found out was that since my hands are sweating when I am typing some longer docs, the sweat adheres on the surface of the pad and generates some kind of layer which prevents the pad to get the "touch" from my fingers.
After cleaning the touchpad gently with some non-aggressiv kitchen cleaner, it works like a charm and stops blocking for some weeks till it?s starts over again. I think humans cannot disable sweating like a background process under windows. Would be interesting if you could check this, clean your pad and report if the pad works after cleaning it.
Thats also sometimes a good reason to clean the whole machine periodically from sweat, debris and dust. (Don?t forget the ventilation holes from the cooling system ;) )
It?s like cleaning your apartment, just keeping it clean and preventing some bigger SH**. :)

The hard drive had to be replaced and the touchpad wansn't working. So as im really good with computers and very good with laptop's i need to disassemble my Laptop to get to the touchpad wire and check it out first. And then i will know if it is the touchpad or the motherboard. When I have the touchpad enabled the cursor jumps around the screen when I'm typing somthing causing me grief. It also has minimized the current browser I'm in, not always but has happened.

When I disable it and connect my Logitech wheel mouse (which I'v used for 2+ years) the problem disappears but I can't highlight/select things properly. For example, normally when I double click on a word it highlights but it doesn't do that anymore. Or when I try to select a a few words it selects the entire sentence or parts of it. I have to use the shift and arrow key. Also using the vertical scroll gives me a problem as well.

I downloaded and installed the current mouse drivers, changed the USB the mouse connects to...nothing. I'm using XP Home version (i've only used the pro version before).

The other day I was using my laptop just fine. I turned it off for the night and came back to it the next day to start using it again. When I turned it on, the touchpad doesn't work. I restarted the computer and it still wont work.

I plugged in a USB mouse and updated the drivers. Uninstalled the drivers and reinstalled and its still not working.

When I went into the Mouse control panel in the hardware tab, Windows isn't picking up my touchpad at all. It finds only the USB mouse, but no trace for my touchpad even in the device manager.

I'm running a Toshiba satellite A305D-S6848 laptop with Windows 7 Pro 32bit with the SP1 Beta (was working fine with the beta till just the other day and have been running the beta sicne it came out), have a Synaptics Touchpad (or however you spell it).

I ran several virus scans and AVG/Avast/Kaspersky couldn't find anything JUST to be safe that it wasn't something like that.

Anyways thanks guys and hope to have some smart people figure it out

Answer:Toshiba Satellite A200 Notebook - Synaptics Touchpad Not Scrolling?

It could be a hardware issue.

I had similar problems w/ notebook - mousepad had to be replaced.

You could try to un-install all drivers in Device Manager then re-boot. Vista will re-install. Also make sure to go to OEM site and get updated driver - if available.

Note that you will lose mouse function completely after un-install. Have USB mouse or b/c familar with CTRL-ALT-DEL that will get you to screen so you can use arrow keys to restart system

I hope someone can help me with this weird problem
My laptop is Satellite U405-S2833 with 1.2 GB Core 2 duo.

It came with a Vista home premium operating system, but I later added XP professional to it (Dual booting)
About 10 months ago, the touchpad as well as the 3 USB ports stopped functioning. Two of the ports will not recognize peripherals, but could power the items, while the third was totally redundant. Since then, I have been using an express card USB adapter for attaching an external mouse and other peripherals. The problems were occurring in both operating systems.
Laptop technicians have had a look at it to no avail.

Here comes the weird part: On occasions when I had to repair or install windows, the pad works perfectly, only to stop working after windows has fully installed.

NB: I have updated the BIOS to the latest version (4.0). Windows 7 RC also exhibited the same problem

I installed a fresh copy of Windows & to a machine that I had gotten from someone without a hard drive.

The touchpad does not work, nor does it show up in the device manager. I am able to activate/deactivate the touchpad using the button located above the touchpad, however the touchpad itself does not work. Nor does the 'FN+F9' key, or a large number of the "fn' keys for that matter.

I checked, rechecked, and tripple checked the connections to the touchpad and everything seems to be good, I do not see why it it now being displayed in the device manager list.

Any ideas?

Also, I can able to plug in a UBS house and run off of that, but I really like being able to use the touchpad.

Hi there,

I reinstalled Windows 7 (from a Windows 7 disk not the Toshiba recovery files).
And everything was working fine, but after restarting once after some updates the mouse and keyboard stopped working!
I found I could get the keyboard to work by pushing the power button to send it to sleep then waking it up, but then the mouse still didn't work.
I can push F2 on the keyboard to get into the BIOS, but can't navigate in it (but can with a USB keyboard.)
Mouse and keyboard don't work in safe mode even.
USB keyboards and mice work fine all the time.

The laptop is a

I have a P-50 C laptop and since I upgraded to Windows10, I have been having problems with my mouse. If the pointer accidentally touches any link, it clicks automatically, without my wanting it. It is particularly irritating when I just leave apage without wanting to, because the pointer was pointing in that direction. I don't know how to solve this issue. I am not an expert in computers and would like a simple remedy for this.
Thank you all out there in advance!

Hi there!

I upgraded my above Notebook to Windows 10 early April this year.
So far no problem. Everything worked fine. Everything.
Early last week Microsoft installed automatically some updates. I hate them for this way of "support".
From that minute no scolling either with the touchpad nor with the original Toshiba mouse possible.
Microsoft is not able to resolve the problem.
Any idea?

Thanks,

Hi,

did you already tried to recover your machine which means a complete reinstall of your system? Firstly: to exclude hardware errors you must perform this step and if the error persists, then I suggest you to contact an authorized service partner for an hardware checkup and for a repair action.

If the problem occurs after reinstalling windows, visit the following link to find the nearest available ASP in your country:

Hello everyone,

I have a Toshiba Satellite CL10-B-100 updated to the latest versions of Windows (before the update at 10, not yet executed) and the latest versions of the BIOS reported the utility "Toshiba Service Station."

Since the last BIOS update touchpad mouse began to malfunction: the pointer moves from time to time, remaining mostly stopped at a point of the screen. Swiping your finger on it are selected parts of the screen as icons and other windows but without that this corresponds to a clear selection and physical movement of the pointer.

I could see that this happens regardless of whether or not the power supply on, or by the fact that there are USB devices inserted.
But I can use the pointer using a mouse that I have to enter into a USB port that is so busy although I could avoid!

Because it seems to me that the problem is created after you install the latest BIOS version reported by Toshiba, what can I do to fix it? The PC is still under warranty.

PS: when I use the touchpad mouse utility in this trysystem windows "Synaptics Pointing Device" indicates that is being used with a green dot.

Now I would remind that this text has been automatically translated by Google Translate from Italian ...

Thanks for the assistance,
Good day!

I bought a Satellite C50D-B-120 new on the 12th April 2015 and I am having issues with the mouse both on the laptop and when using one plugged in via USB.

The mouse is very slow to react, juddering and wandering off all on it's own. I have reset the mouse control speed to fast but this makes no difference at all.

Just had delivery of a new Tosh T110-107 which I have to say looks wonderful, however a problem. One bootup the touchpad works ok but as soon as I connect the USB mouse then neither work - making the system unusable, until I disconnect the mouse and reboot. SO what have I done to it?

Uninstalled McAfee and addded Norton 360 and Office (both originals) and thats it, the problem was found before anything was done - as it came out of the box.

Win7 Home Premium, never had problems with Win7 but then not used it on a laptop especially this model. Can only imagine its config/software but straight out of the box? Tosh must know there is a problem them - they have too, yet sold it?

ANyone else had this issue?

Ah answer my own question, mouse at fault, once the wheel is moved it all works, but one has to continuously move it or it don't work. Turns out the mouse was not part of the package, so my apologies to Toshiba, but then thats why I got him to buy this model - reputable manufacturer - great machine though and would recommend it to anyone who is thinking about buying one.

Answer:Satellite L650D - touchpad / mouse problem

Go to control panel → mouse → Device settings (last tab) → Settings button
Now you should access the Synaptics touchpad settings.

There you can modify different touchpad options and enable touchpad features like for example Virtual scrolling, pointer motion, sensitivity, tapping and others…
I would recommend you to go through the single items and to check whether one of the options would provide you a settings to change this touchpad behaviour.

You should have softwarte to configure the touchpad, make sure everything is enabled.

Also check device manager and make sure the drivers appear to functioning normal. If everything looks OK try to find a newer version of the drivers for the tocuhpad and update those.

I'm running Win 10. My laptop is a Asus Zenbook UX501VW. I have tried reinstalling multiple drivers, multiple times, to no avail. Oddly, the touch screen still works perfectly fine, and for a while I was able to get gestures working on the touchpad (pretty much just scrolling), but now those don't work again. I have also tried three different mice, none of which worked (Microsoft WirelessMobile Mouse 3500, Kinzu V2, unsure of the model of the third).

This started suddenly about three weeks ago and I've been trying to fix it ever since. Like I said before I've tried reinstalling a bunch of drivers, including the ATK pack and Asus SmartGesture drivers, as well as the Microsoft Wireless drivers, yet nothing seems to work. If anyone has some insight on this issue it would be greatly appreciated, I work with adobe editing programs and the touch screen has been more than frustrating to use on these programs.

If it just happened after somebody messed with it physically, then it's almost absolutely something they did to cause it. Take it back to the person/company and have them correct their error. Or somebody else who won't neglect to refasten everything properly.

I have a P200-144, with the Synaptics touchpad.
I also have a Toshiba bluetooth mouse (the little mini one, useful for travelling, don't know the model number).

The problem is the difference in sensitivity between these two: for the touchpad, I need the pointer speed at about 80-90% in the Mouse control panel in Windows (Vista Home Premium); for the bluetooth mouse, it needs to be down about 20%.

This makes using these two devices at the same time annoying as you have to adjust the sensitivity when changing between them (which, considering they're both Toshiba devices, you would've thought they'd consider the synergy).

Is there anyway to control the sensitivity per device?

Answer:Touchpad and bluetooth mouse sensitivity on Satellite P200-144

Hi

As far as I know you can configure the touchpad and the mouse settings independent from each other.

The touchpad settings should be configured in:
*Control panel -> mouse -> device settings -> settings*

There you could choose the single options which you would like to change.

Hey guys again!

When I set up a new operation system sometimes (vista, 7) I always installed the Synaptics Pointing Device. And then, my Genius Ergo 725 Laser mouse driver was installed.
After these steps I turned on the "Disable internal pointing device when external USB pointing device is attached" in Synaptics, so when I used my mouse, the touchpad didn't work, and when I disconnected my mouse I could use the touchpad. It?s normal I know.
It worked fine for a few weeks as I connected and disconnected.

BUT now
when I disconnect my mouse, I can't use my touchpad, it's simply not working, and if I connect my mouse again, my mouse doesn't work too. So I can't use my touchpad & mouse, just navigate with keyboard. I tried to uninstall & reinstall Synaptics and genius drivers, but nothing.

Also when this happens, I just restart my computer but when it's "shutting down" it freezes and doesn't restart or shut down. So I have to push the power button for a few sec.
If I don't disconnect my mouse while my OS running, or don't connect my mouse while OS is running, I can shut down and restart computer normally....
Now I have Windows 7 x86, but it happened with my Vista x86 too...

Strange problems, but I hope you can help!
Thanks forward.

Answer:Satellite A300-1NO: Synaptics touchpad vs. Genius mouse

This is a first time that I meet such issue?
I think it?s a OS issue? maybe something has been muddled up? updates? who knows?

I think firstly you should try to remove the touchpad drivers and software from the system and should clean the registry. I clean my registry using the CCleaner. It?s free tool.

After registry has been cleaned, reinstall the needed touchpad drivers and check if you can use the touchpad.

I just bought my A660 07P last Saturday 15/9/10 and I noticed that I was having problems with the mouse pointer using the touchpad.

From time to time, the cursor/mouse pointer is locked and something like an up-and- down button would appear.
I presumed that it is because it is on a waiting mode but this happens like every 5 minutes.
When it is locked it will also change the zoom percentage when the touchpad is tapped. It is very incovenient when I'm in the middle of something and I cannot move the pointer around. In addition, start-up is really slow.

Btw, I haven't installed any programs or applications yet. I'm still testing up to Friday or else I'll return it to where I bought it.

Hi,

Well after hours of trying allsorts, i'm posting here....

Been handed the laptop for repair as the touchpad has stopped responding. No problem 'i thought', just plug another usb mouse in to help me get around and re-install the touchpad.. what a joke.

Right, the USB mouse is recognised as a hid device and working, according to device manager, but not when you move it.. nothing ...
The Touchpad is listed as a Synaptics ps/2 touchpad and reports a Code 10 in the mouse section of device manager along with the usb mouse listed as a hid and fully functional.

Right.. i have ..
Listed all devices, even those hidden nonpresent (devmgr_show_nonpresent_devices) and removed every single account of any mice, touchpads etc..
uninstalled the synaptics software through the programs control panel.
Rebooted the laptop, and it starts with the touchpad being listed again as a code 10 with windows version drivers.
Updated drivers using two different files from Toshiba for the touchpad, Still Code 10
The USB mouse still does not work either.

Somebody please enlighten me on a fix for this...

Answer:Satellite L300 - Vista - Touchpad and USB mouse not responding.

Hi

That?s really strange buddy because normally an update of the touchpad driver should solve the issue.

Anyway, have you already tried to use the Toshiba recovery disk? Maybe it?s just a software issue and some important Windows files are destroyed or don?t work properly. Reinstalling Windows using the Toshiba recovery disk takes only few minutes and there are already all drivers and tools integrated. With these settings (factory settings) the touchpad should work properly and if not the touchpad or mainboard must be replaced maybe.

I've got a Toshiba Satellite E45t-B4204 Ultrabook. I guess that 60-70% of the time when I wake the computer up the touchpad does not work. No cursor input. It's running windows 10 on a SSD HDD. I leave it on and only turn it off (restart) if there is an issue. I've had this laptop for about 2 years now and always had this issue. It came with windows 8. I upgraded to 10 when it was available. I've actually reinstalled windows numerous times to try to correct this issue. I've also reinstalled the touchpad drivers many times. I even tried replacing the physical touchpad by buying a new cover that comes with the touchpad. Nothing is working. Any other suggestions? Look for a new laptop?

Hello.  The touchpad on my Yoga 13 stopped working a few days ago and I have been unable to get it working again.   I have of course tried the fn+F6 thing.  I have also tried updating both the touchpad's and graphics card's drivers, restarting the system, closing/opening the lid, and switching between laptop and tent mode.  None of this has helped and it has not been working for a few days now.  I have scoured these forums and tried every solution that I could find, but have not seen any improvement.  Device manager says that the device is working properly.  I have tried a few different ones, but I am currently using the Synaptics 16.2.21.4 driver. I am thinking that this might be a hardware issue.  Is there a Lenovo software that can diagnose hardware issues with the touchpad/mouse?  I downloaded the Lenovo Solution Center, but it doesn't seem to check the touchpad. Thank you in advance for any help.

What laptop?
Have you checked the website of the laptop manufacturer to see if they have updated drivers for the touchpad?

I recently gave vista the boot installed windows 7 on my Toshiba satellite A200-FT3 laptop. Everything went great however the touchpad doesn't seem to be functioning.

I've already installed the latest synaptic driver. The device manager even says that the device is 'working properly' however i can't get the pointer to move using the touchpad.

The 'Fn' functions work:
Fn+F7 to brighten
Fn+F6 to darken.

EXCEPT the touchpad: Fn+F9.

Does anybody have any ideas? =[

Answer:Touchpad Mouse driver not working

That is honestly something I have not experienced.
Did it work before you up installed the touch pad driver?
Have you checked all the setting making sure something funky didn't get clicked, by the ghost of vistas past?

Have you ran windows updates, after installing the drivers?
Have you tried uninstalling the driver then running win updates?

Are you getting tired of my questions?
If yes, Im done
If no, I can make some more up for you :P

Thinkpad E440,  Windows 8.1 with latest drivers installed. My touchpad will only work for gestures and clicking.  It will *not* work for being able to control the mouse movement. I notice that in the control panel on the "mouse properties/ThinkPad" tab, in the dropdown list for "Pointing Options" I only have "Use Touchpad Only" and "Use Trackpoint Only".  On another E440 where the mouse control does work it has a 3rd option of "Use Touchpad and Trackpoint". Any suggestions?

Hi,
The mouse in my Win 8.1 64 bit laptop is not working properly; specifically the buttons. When I move it, the cursor actually moves, but as in slow motion and, as suggested, neither right nor left click buttons work in either the usb-connected cable mouse, nor the laptop's touchpad. Furthermore, I changed the mouse, but the results were the same: slo-mo cursor and no button functions. When asleep, the moving of the cursor does not wake up the laptop.

I have to confess that today is the 10th day that the laptop is on and running an engineering software non-stop. However, up until today, this was not an issue and I had been able to use the laptop normally with said software in the background. What was different today was that I was out all day and did NOT use the laptop normally.

I can anticipate that the easiest solution is to force a shut-down and it is very probable that upon restart, everything will be back to normal. But I need my program to finish runing and it is a good three days away from finishing, but I also need to use the computer on those three days.

Any suggestions?

Right click the Task Bar and launch Task Manager. See what you don't need running currently and kill the process. Your symptoms are classic for running out of available RAM so, it may take a while for each process to terminate and free up memory. Once your engineering project is completed, restart the computer and take... Read more

Hello, I've not long since upgraded to Windows 10 and everything was working fine at first. Now the touchpad doesn't work at all and the laptop isn't recognising my mouse when I plug it in. I also can't even see the location of the cursor on the screen. Any suggestions on how I can fix this without using a cursor? Cheers.

After having to re-install Windows 7 on my laptop I've found that the trackpad and associated mouse buttons are no longer working. The keyboard works fine. The touch screen works fine. When I inserted an external mouse, it automatically installed the driver and worked without issue.I installed the Synaptics TouchPad Driverbut that didn't make any difference. I also tried removing the battery, holding the power button for 30 seconds, re-instering the power cable (but not the battery) and booting up the latop.  It was working fine before the re-install so I can ssume i's not a hardware fault and if the keyboard works the interface cable is also working... Just wondering if anyone has had the same issue and can suggest anything?

I left my laptop on while I went to watch the rest of the football on tv. After I came back, I couldn't move my cursor on the screen using my touch pad. I restarted it and it still didn't work. Then I shut it down properly, turned it on again, and it still didn't work.

I'm had to do everything using the keyboard and it's really time consuming. I can't work like this!

Why on earth has my touch pad suddenly stopped working and how do I fix it? Please help as I need this fixed urgently.

Thank you.

Answer:Mouse Touchpad not working!! Urgent!!

Most laptops have a way to enable/disable the touchpad using the Fn key. Try hitting Fn + some of your F keys, on Acer laptops it's F7.
