Solved: Fujitsu laptop keyboard showing wrong characters

Question: Solved: Fujitsu laptop keyboard showing wrong characters

Any help to correct this problem would be appreciated.
I don't know if this is a hardware issue or a software issue. Whenever I press certain letters I get a numeric stroke. For example:

The only reason I'm able to type this is because I've connected another keyboard up to the laptop.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Solved: Fujitsu laptop keyboard showing wrong characters

Most likely you have some kind of number lock feature on. It's so you can use the letters as you would a number pad on a standard keyboard.

Try to find a key on your keyboard labeled "Num Lock" and press it (you may have to hold down something like an "Fn" key while pushing the Num Lock button).

Whenever i try to type something like I or O it would come up as a 5 or 6
5t w643d 3662 s60eth5ng 352e th5s
Translation- It would look something like this
I read somewhere about holding the FN key, and when i do hold it and press the letter I it would come up, otherwise it would be a 5.

Any suggestions?

Hi,suddenly the laptop started typing wrong words. I checked keyboard layout, it was English US. I even tried Ctrl + Shift and Alt + Shift, but nothing is happening. If I type small letters it types Capital letters, sometimes the same type numbers....if I type 1,2,3,4 it types !,@,#,$ respectively. Even though Numslock is also on.Even I tried external USB keyboard in the laptop, it is the same problem. At last, even I formatted the laptop and installed windows 7 again, same problem.

Hi tech support, installed windows 64 professional and some characters are not in the right place, @ and " are opposite, # is where the pound character
etc, installed three types of keyboard plug and play and USB and ergonomic with software all the same problem,any advice what to do???

Answer:[SOLVED] keyboard wrong characters

Either you are in a Non-US English location and have the US layout, or vice-versa
US Shift+2 is @
UK Shift+2 is "

Control Panel | Language and Regional Options
On Regional tab, select the correct language for your location.
Click the Languages tab, then click the Details... button
Select the correct Default input language. This should also install the correct keyboard
Under Installed services, if the incorrect keyboard is shown, click the Add... button
Select the language and layout, and click OK
You can remove the other keyboard if needed. Helps to keep it from getting switched back accidentally.

Most keys are affected, even the enter/delete and number keys.

Any idea what is happening? Have I completely broken it?

Hi - I'm using Vista Business.

When using an office program, certain characters do not show up correctly. For instance the '@' symbol (shift+2) shows up as quotes.

Here's the strange part. I can type normally in notepad. This suggests that there's a setting in Office??

In either case, I tried changing Vista's language settings by right clicking the taskbar -> toolbars but the 'languages' toolbar does not appear. In other words, i don't have any other languages installed.

Anyone have any ideas how to fix this? Any help would be appreciated!

Answer:Wrong Keyboard Characters

Shift+2 for quotes is UK (maybe others)

I have just had a look in Excel and you can change the language for office (excel in this case)

Excel options --> Popular Tab --> Language settings --> Primary editing Language

My keyboard is typing correctly in Word but types nonsense when I type in either a browser window or in my email. If I type a web address in Chrome, Explorer or Firefox it comes out as random letters, symbols and numbers and the same if I try to type an email in yahoo or gmail. As I say, it is fine typing in Word. Any ideas gratefully received.

PS I have been into Control Panel and made sure regional settings and keyboard setting are for English (UK)

It is necessary for you to replace the keyboard.It is not sending the correct signals to the motherboard. Yes, even a notebook computer has a replacable keyboard.It's a job best assigned to a qualified computer technician, to find and order a compatible keyboard, and to disassemble the laptop far enough to be able to swap the keyboard.

Hey, i run XP and am having an issue with my keyboard not inputting the correct character on certain keys when shift is held down. This same thing happens when i use either keyboard a basic PS/2 and a USB Steelseries Merc Stealth which i install drivers for.
Some examples of the problem are pressing shift + 2[top row] should input " but inputs @ : Shift + 3 should input pound sign but instead inputs # : shift + @ should input @ but instead inputs "
I have tried removing all my drivers through divice manager and rebooting letting xp reinstall ect, removing all my usb keyboard drivers and software and reinstalling ect still the same issue with both keyboards, exactly. At first i thought that because i am based in the UK and my USB keyboard is from the US that was the issue but its the same problem with my standard PS/2 keyboard which got me thinking that it can only be somthing related to XP or some settings in XP.
Any help as always welcome, thanks in advance.

My PC showed UK Keyboard after W10 installed, the only issue I found was that "@" showed instead of " " "

To fix this I changed the keyboard to US Keyboard, as it had been until W10, that fixed the problem but when I reboot it reverts to UK Keyboard.

How do I fix this?

Answer:Tecra A9 - Keyboard "unlocks" and wrong characters are typed

To be honest I have no idea what you are talking about.
If your keyboard layout does not match with the keyboard language, then you should change this and should add new language.

In such case you will be able to switch between languages using the shortcuts SHIFT+ALT

Of course you can also delete the other languages. In such case the SHIFT+ALT will not functions.

Hi all,

I am having serious problems with my keyboards. when I press some letters like 'g b y t a' its generates wierd codes.

g = Dg GH`B'GN#
a = AS
y = YUI
b = NMB,N

these keep changing all the time, sometimes it just generates unending code and I have to hold down the backspace key for it to stop.

I have changed my keyboard from the original one that had a serial port to a new USB type but this has not solved the problem. Now I have both plugged in and have to use both to type as the keys that work on one do not work on the other.

I have started my computer in safe mode and done a full virus check, using mcafee and avg, i have even used housecall which is an online antivirus but this has not solved the problem.

I have changed my regional setting from UK to Us and back but this does not solve the problem.

I got remapping software anthis shows that all the keys are mapped correctly.

I have downloaded every microsoft patch but still with no joy.

I need some help please. frustrating typing with two key boards. appologies for gramatical errors, I just want to send this.

Answer:Keyboard, characters mixed up and wrong code generation

The 2 areas that affect keyboard mapping are;

Keyboard settings are in Control Panel-> Keyboard
Language settings are in Control Panel-> Regional and Language Options

Use only one keyboard at a time - a stuck key will/may cause both to appear errant.

A System Restore is also a possibility if this event had been recent.

I went to Device manager and uninstalled keyboard driver and nothing; I reformatted my HDD drive and nothing; I have noticed that when I went to the BIOS and y tried to enable "FN" and I could not enable or disable; it is disable by default;
I tried FN+ F11 or F10 and I did nto work. What could it be?

Answer:Keyboard types wrong and weird characters on Tecra A2

sounds like a serious hardware problem. You can try the following to check if just the internal keyboard is making some trouble or your machine is malfunctioning: just connect a external keyboard (ps2 or usb) and check if you got the same error.

But nowadays you should bring your machine to a local authorized service partner for a hardware checkup because I think that your keyboard is defective and the hardware components of your machine should be checked.

Here?s a link to find the nearest local service point:

Good luck

I have the Gateway NE56R12u 15.6-Inch Laptop
OS: Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit SP1

A few drops of water was spilled onto my keyboard (I don't think the water got down into the laptop... as far as I could tell the water landed on top of the keys, but I could be wrong) and when I went to clean it, I didn't think ahead and turn it off before cleaning up the spill. So many keys were pressed and now the keyboard is not functioning correctly. When I press the majority of the keys, they will either add other letters/symbols, or they will trigger Windows shortcuts.

As an example..
B = "B (it also brings up the right click menu) (this will also bring up this: € symbol as well as times)
O = 7i7o0
L = *L{YK

M = HM

k= yk*

j = brings up googlechrome downloads

i = takes curser to the start of the text

The space key types b ' and brings up the right click menu.

7 brings up the "open file" shortcut

and so on

Some keys are working properly: a c d e f g q r s t v w x z

I browsed google a little to see if anyone else has had this problem. A big fix was pressing the FN button and the NumLock at the same time. That didn't work. Which, I doubted it would since my laptop has a full keyboard.

Is it possible that it's stuck on some sort of sticky keys or toggle keys setting?

HI, and welcome to TSG...

You may have the Num lock on. Its located at the top-right of the keyboard above the F11 key. If it is on, there should be one of the four indicator lights illuminated to the left of the power button. The first on, actually.

Good luck..

I have an excel spreadsheet, and I'd like to insert a wingding character - a check mark.
I'd like to set up a macro to do this. But if I copy the checkmark to the clipboard and create the macro to paste the clipboard, this won't work if there is something else in the clipboard. What I need is a way to tell the macro what key combination I'm typing in, is what I want in the cell. The check mark character is way at the bottom of the character map sequence for wingdings. I've gone through all my keys, and there's many more characters between the end of what my keys will create, and that check mark.

Is there a way to generate keys using ALT or something? I tried ALT-1-2-3, but that didn't give me anything. Is the ALT sequence or whatever it is, mapped to ascii? Is that the character code I see at the bottom of the character map window? Is there any correlation of that code to what I'm going to type into my cell to get my checkmark?

My keyboard produces weird characters on a row. Some of the keys even trigger programs to open; like, calculator or outlook and it did happen that the system was hibernating willest pressing a 'k (If i'm correct)'.
After some experimenting I saw that each character I pressed produces 4 to 5 different strings, like Lh{$3, 3:fo or things similar.

Anybody any ideas?

The characters on a Toshiba notebook keyboard have become all mixed up. Several or more letters are numbers. I don't know how to fix this. Steps taken to try to fix it have been to uninstall and re-install the keyboard driver. I then restarted the computer.
I could not find anything under language options.

Hi All,
The laptop is a Fujitsu siemens E series lifebike:
Recently the wireless connection has been playing up, reporting "limited or no connectivity" or being connected, but not wanting to access the internet:

When left to be configured automatically, it comes up with some strange values:
It reports "Limited or No Connectivity" and when you look at the details:

IP Address:
Subnet Mask:
Default Gateway:

Every other field is blank, that struck me as really quite odd, so I went and manually configuring it. Giving it IP address (any number which doesnt clash) the default subnet mask and a gateway of (the address of the router). I retrieved the DNS addresses from another computer (by accessing the rooter page from it)

It immediately say it is connected (not limited or no connectiivity) but it is only sending out data, not recieving any. It cannot access the router page or any websites and although it says it is connected, it clearly isnt.

I do not think it is a problem with the router as we have another laptop and it is working fine (on the wireless). It is a problem that has turned up very recently also. We have just got a new Vista PC but I think that is just a coincidence. (We are not totally sure when it started playing up)

We have tried restarting the laptop and the router, also.

Any advice??

I have a really weird situation here. I have two audio devices, speakers and headphones, both connected to my computer. The headphones use a usb and a audio slot and the speakers use only a audio slot. When I go in properties, they show up backwards. If audio is playing through my headphones, it says they are playing through the speakers. This really hasn't been much of an issue because it hasn't really effected anything but now I'm trying to optimize the settings of these devices. If I try to enable higher bass quality for my headphones under "headphones" in the audio section, it enhances it for the speakers. But for both devices there are different options to enable or disable so I can't use them on the correct device. I know what I'm saying probably doesn't make sense but let me put it like this. Under my headphones there is an option for optimizing "Headphone virtualization," but I can't actually put it to effect because it applies for my speakers (which seems to do nothing), and under my speakers I don't get that option. So basically what I'm saying is I can't optimize my audio devices because there is some sort of weird error.

The first thing that pops to mind is water damage/a drop-but seeing as rebooting does momentarily solve the problem, it might well be a virus. Before we go into virus scanning, can you plug in a USB keyboard and see if the problem persists?Windows already has the drivers installed for keyboards and mice, so drivers shouldn't be the problem.Can you think of anything that might have caused this problem?

As you see in the attached photo, the connections information icon shows "wireless connections are available" status even though I am connected! I am connected via hotspot (with a program called Connectify) to another laptop which has wired connection. I have no problems with the connection itself, but only with that status icon's wrong display.

This happend after I installed software for a bluetooth usb adapter. I have searched the web for the same problem and tried the suggested fixes: uninstalled the software, uninstalled the network adapters (wired and wireless), deleted iconchache.db file but none worked for me.
This problem is really driving me nuts so I would appreciate any suggestions on how to fix it!

For some ODD reason, your computer is confused... and is referring the GF6150 as your primary display adapter.

Hi everyone, newbie here. Sorry if I've posted this in the wrong spot. I joined this forum to get help with another problem but after reading the posting instructions I'd better do some homework before getting into that little mess I've made .

Hi, I bought a Lenovo Essential G580 on 15th May 2013. Everything was working perfectly until yesterday when my keyboard started to type random characters. I had just put my laptop to sleep on the night of 20th July 2013 and when I switched on the laptop on the evening of 21st July 2013 the keyboard started typing random stuff. There has been no spillage on the laptop as its safely covered on my table and I am the only one living in my room. Also to make sure its not because of a software glitch, I tried the following: 1. Restarted the system multiple times2. Went to an earlier System restore point. (Tried 5 different one's)3. Refreshed the system4. Took a backup and Formatted the whole hard disk and reinstalled Windows.5. Switched off the laptop for the night and tried switching it on today morning. None of the above helped. So obviously it is not a software problem. I got on a phone call for a while and it went in sleep mode. Pretty normal. I concluded the call and touched the space bar expecting the normal, quick wake up and the login screen. The login screen came up alright, but the password box was already filled. I tried to use backspace to clear the box and I missed a heartbeat! Nothing seemed to happen.So I force shut it holding the power button and after a minute bring it up again. Same scene!This has continued. I am going to be in India for a few months. Answer:Yoga 2 Pro Keyboard continuously floods characters in the keyboard buffer

I have this same problem but with my Y510p. It floods the 'Q' character.
The only solution which seems possible is a keyboard replacement (unless the connecting port is damaged, which is highly unlikely). I have ordered a keyboard and it is on the way.
As for your scenario, I would say that if you friend is going to be in US for more than 2 months then it is fine to send it with him for repairs. You could also order a keyboard online and replace it yourself (I ordered on ebay).
Check your manual on lenovo website for supported keyboard part number.
Tip -
To disable a malfunctioning keyboard like yours, you can either disconnect it physically (like you did)
You can go into Control Panel > Device Manager > Keyboards
Select the laptop keyboard and manually install a wrong keyboard driver.
This way the keyboard wont be recognized and wont work.

Wrong characters have just sprouted in some places. Things like é instead of ?, for instance.

I've spotted them in two places only : comments included in Properties of Macrium Reflect backup files, and one blog I follow regularly through Firefox.

That's the reason I suspect it's Windows-related and not a Macrium problem. It happened suddenly with no obvious trigger beforehand. It's the sort of bad transcription which often happens in emails.

Did you install the special drivers for the motherboard, bios and others that come on a separate disk? If not then go to either the manufacturers web site or the motherboards web site and download them and run them and after they are installed reboot the computer.

If this does not work try this:

You might have to remove the hard drive from this computer and install it in another computer as a slave drive and after it is able to be accessed by Windows on that computer you will have to manually backup all of your important data that you have to another media like CD-R's, DVD or Thumb drive. Then when this is done return it to the original computer as a master drive on the primary IDE cable and do the following:

If this just started happening, then do a system restore to a time before this happened. You can also use an external USB Keyboard or the on screen keyboard and see if that has the same effect,
You can also go to the Sony Vaio drivers page Sony eSupport - Drivers & Software Updates - Select a Model and download the updated Touchpad and Chipset driver for your model.

There seems to be an issue with hebrew characters in IE11 in Apex 4.2. Previous versions and other browsers work fine.
Are there any suggestions to make this work globally within Apex?

I have this weird problem where my computer will sometimes show Asian characters (Korean, Japanese, Chinese, etc.) and sometimes it'll show them as blocks. It's really annoying because I can't see what the song names are in iTunes and some of my folders in Chinese are just blocks. I've already tried installing the language packs but that didn't help. I've also asked this on Microsoft's forum but they didn't help much either. I can see the fonts clearly on webpages and I can type in Chinese perfectly but I can't see the characters in places like folder names, file names, etc.

I currently run Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

It may be as simple as the font itunes is using doesnt support foreign characters. Have you tried changing the font?

Hello i am having a serious problem. Windows XP won't show the characters on this page . Look at #7 and at the bottom it shows rectangles or blank spaces. Please Help !Do Your Self A Favor And Backup Your Computer , Remove That Junk , And Orginize your stuff :D

Answer:Ascii characters showing as rectangles

The characters at the very bottom of that post are control characters for which there is no graphic representation. How they will be show, if if they are shown at all, depends on the font in use. The font depends on your locale, the browser in use, and system configuration. Typically these characters will be shown as blanks or squares, possibly in some other form.

HI all,
I recently had to replace the hard disk in my Packard Bell PC. I lost the original Windows XP Home installation. I had to install a new version of XP Home OEM ( decided to stay with XP as I use several fairly old programs, which, I am told probably would not work with Vista). My problem is that having successfully installed the program, my keyboard is now printing incorrect characters. I am told it is using the American setting. Can anybody tell me how to change to the English setting? I am getting @ for ", and vice versa. Also, I cannot find any Euro symbol.

Yours Hopefully,
