Cannot flash my DVR-108 to 1.19 firmware!

Question: Cannot flash my DVR-108 to 1.19 firmware!

Hi folks!

I have a Sony VAIO computer with a DVR-108 DVD burner installed. The current firmware available is 1.19, but the firmware on my drive is 1.10. For some reason, I am unable to upgrade the firmware using the firmware installer software. Normally I wouldn't worry too much about it, but my drive supports burning at 16X speeds with DVD+R discs, and I am only getting 4X burn speeds with the 16X discs I bought! (and yeah, they are good quality media!)

I actually get 12X speeds with my 8X discs, but am getting 4X speeds with 16X discs! what a mess!

I have done my share of googling to figure out how to flash the firmware, but nothing seems to help - it's a little overly complicated for me! When I run the installer, it tells me that the device is not found. Argh!

does anyone have anything to offer that might help?

thanks in advance!

Preferred Solution: Cannot flash my DVR-108 to 1.19 firmware!

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have an original Philips dvd rw model no: SPD 8005BM/ 17. It was flashed using Flash Utility, GS08fix.exe, and GS09. and EEPROM found from

Now it reads as a Lite On SSM-S515S dvd ram drive, but will not recognize any discs. How do I get the burner to be flashed back to its original configuration? The original config never worked as a burner, but was able to burn CDs and read DVDs. If it does nothing else, I would like this capability.

I have 1 GB of RAM and a 250 GB SATA HDD in a Dell Optiplex GX 280. FlashFix did not work, now I have the files I need from an email, and need to make the Philips work again. HELP

Harman/Kardon AVR635 bricked last night during software upgrade over RS-232 serial connection.

Not much hope online suggesting any easy fix.

the only thing I have to go off of is this

AVR635 = UPD70F3033BGF, a NEC microcontroller with 256KB of flash memory.

NEC PG-FP4 flash programmer (not the minicube2). He did this by connecting the PG FP4 to the CSIO ports on teh chip (pins 97 to 99) and then uploading the HEX file of the firmware.Click to expand...

Someone suposedly had success using the NEC PG-FP4 to rewrite the memory and bring the receiver back to life..

I would like to know if anyone knows where I could find someone with experience with this?

Ive googled but doesn't seem to be a well documented topic.

Where do I go? Who should I be looking to talk to?

Please help me get lucky and bring my reciever to life?

Answer:Need help with flash programming, NEC PG-FP4's and Audio Firmware

Have you tried a local repair shop? They may be able to program the chip, or replace it with a pre-programmed one.

You might also have a chat with Harmon/Kardon -- they may have some suggestion, or be able to sell you the chip directly.

I remember using an old motherboard to program chips for something; don't recall what it was. We'd boot the machine up, pop out the BIOS chip and insert the new chip. Then use the bios flash utility to write the firmware to the chip.

HelloIn a couple of weeks I want to install fedora 24 on my Lenovo y50-70, but I don't want to have problems again with secureboot. The problem I had when I installed fedora 23 (or any other Linux) is that I can't put off secureboot, every time I disable secureboot in BIOS it automatically sets it back to enable (I save of course) so I installed fedora 23 with secureboot, the problems were slow start-ups and a lot of problems with virtualization (the problem is secureboot, I have enabled virtualization in BIOS). I know now how to fix virtualization with secureboot, so that's not my question. My question is could I flash the firmware to something different where secureboot is off or not there? Or anyone has a solution how I can put off secureboot completely?A second question is do I lose performance when I don't install my OS in UEFI? So in BIOS mode. I have read some articles some say not, some say it depends.Thank you for reading my postGreetingsGraham

Hello all, I bought a ASUS DRW 2014L1T dvd drive brand new off ebay the other week. Today I decided to look on asus's website to check for a firmware update and there was one.

My dvd drive was ver 1.00 and i was upgrading to ver 1.2 it had faster burning speeds apparently.

So i download the firmware and it is a .exe so i click on it and the firmware flash was progression normally with the dvd rom lights flickering as normal and then at 96% it just stopped and the lights stopped flickering. I left it for another 30mins and then just closed the exe.

So i check my bios details and windows details and it says my dvd drive is now ver 1.2 and it reads dvd ok.

So am i to assume that the flash was a sucess? i tried flashing with previous versions and it said the exact same thing ( 96% complete). I will just assume that the flash went ok.

I did all this because my dvd drive makes a weird noise when ready discs like a scratchy grindy noise like the lens is scraping or something. But it is brand new and i cant see it being broke.

Your help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I tried installing the following from the dell website ďFirmware Flash for HLDS GCE-8400B HH 40X CDRW Version A02Ē
The download created a bootable floppy. When I tried to install, the installation went to about 75% then froze. After re-starting the computer, I get the following black screen:

Secondary hard disc drive 0 not found
Secondary hard disc drive 1 not found
F1 to continue
F2 setup

F1 boots the computer, slowly, and after booting, the cdrw is not recognized at all in my computer

All other discs and drives are recognized

Any suggestions on how to correct the problem?

I have a D-Link DIR-655 router that someone somehow loaded Mikrotik firmware on. I do not have the login or password to access admin screen. Defaults and variations do not work. I want to load the original OEM firmware back onto it. I have the factory firmware/bin file. It there a 3rd party flashing utility I can use to flash the router without having to log into router? D-Link support was useless. There must be a way as somehow the firmware is loaded onto a blank chip during manufacture.

Answer:How to flash router firmware with lost password?

D-Link support was uselessClick to expand...

In what manner were they useless please - IMHO they are usually excellent
Of course if by useless you mean they stated that the wrong firmware having been loaded to the chip, the standard way of resetting a router password to default would not now work and therefore the equipment is for practical purposes - scrap, then I agree
From router user manual
If you forgot your password, you must reset your router. Unfortunately this process will change all your settings back to the factory defaults.
To reset the router, locate the reset button (hole) on the rear panel of the unit. With the router powered on, use a paperclip to hold the button down for 10 seconds. Release the button and the router will go through its reboot process. Wait about 30 seconds to access the router. The default IP address is When logging in, the username is admin and leave the password box empty.

However there is every possibility I think that the wrong firmware written to the chip will negate the reset of the password and the writing of the right firmware
You may consider it the same as a failed BIOS flash

Hello guys! I have a power on password as well as a HDD password set up on my T420. I then upgraded the firmware on the drive which was an OCZ SSD. Now when I get to the HDD password prompt, my original password isn't working. I suspect the password was stored on the HDD firmware and is now corrupted.  I plugged the SSD to a USB dock and can read files off it so the password isn't working properly, but my laptop won't boot with it still. I then backed up the drive and formatted it via Windows 7 and plugged it back into the T420 and was still getting the HDD password prompt. Thanks for the help in advance

Answer:Hard drive password after firmware flash

The password is not stored with the firmware and cannot be corrupted in this way.

I've got three WG302s of which the certificates on all of them are up. I've begun the process of replacing the firmware on one of them with OpenWrt. I've been using this to get the job done:

I've been able to edit it up to the point of using fconfig to edit the boot script. I understand that I just need to edit two lines and the firmware replacement will be complete. This is what the boot script is right now:
Boot script:
.. fis load -b 0x01600000 ixp425
.. exec 0x0160004c

I think this is what it needs to change to:
Boot script:
.. fis load -b 0x01600000 kernel
.. exec 0x01600000

I've looked up fconfig commands to see if I could figure out how to edit the script lines:

I understand that it's basically command line editing of a boot script. But, for the life of me, I can't figure out how to use it.

Answer:OpenWrt flash / firmware upgrade dilemma

I found a solution:

It's all the way down at Configuration Variables. I started messing with the commands until I stumbled across one that edited boot script data:
fconfig boot_script_data

Once you enter this line, you are rewriting the script from scratch, line-by-line.

Would it be better to flash my firmware back to original on my 920 and then load 8.1 or just do the upgrade?

Answer:Would it be better to flash my firmware back to original on my 920 and then load 8.1 or just do the upgrade?

This purely my opinion.
I personally think using the Nokia Software Recovery Tool is the best option. It avoids any issues that may crop up and you start off with a clean install.
However, I know many people can't do this so I'd say, just upgrade and if you have issues you can always use the NSRT if things go wrong.

I contacted Linksys technical assistance last week to see if their Network Setup wizard would work with my Linksys Wireless Modem Router - even though it wasn't listed on the software guide. All was working fine but I was having trouble adding a third computer to the network, so suspected security/firewall settings. No problem, said the friendly technical advisor on the free helpline. In fact he offered to guide me through the process. Great I thought! So he noted down the hardware used and the router settings.Having seen the Firmware of the Wireless Modem Router was still V01.01.00, he said I needed to update the firmware. He told me how to enable the settings so that he could do it for me. So far so good.Needless to say, the flash firmware upgrade failed. The router just flashed at me, and then couldn't be accessed for love nor money. My advisor at Linksys could be heard to wobble and discussed the process with his supervisor. Eventually he advised that Linksys would replace my equipment. As I run a business from this system I was a little less than delighted. I am waiting for Linksys to get back in touch regarding replacement having meantime lashed up a modem to at least allow access to the Internet for one machine.Question is - is there anything I can do to reflash or otherwise repair my Linksys unit without having to wait for a replacement? I can download and save firmware software from the Linksys site - I just don't know how I can flash it to the unit.Oh, and to warn ot... Read more

Answer:Flash Firmware on Linksys Wireless Modem Router

Very unlikely that you can re-flash...In view of the fact that Linksys are replacing the kit, it sounds to me as though the technical "expert" used the wrong flash file...I'd say the router was almost certainly dead.

Hello everyone. I've been using BIOS version 1.28 with my X220 since it is the last version that runs my 1866MHz RAM at its rated speed (instead of 1333Mhz). My issue is this: I flashed the latest 1.40 BIOS, which includes EC firmware 1.24 and then flashed back to 1.28. Unfortunately, downgrading the BIOS also downgrades the EC Firmware back to version 1.13. My question is: is there a way to force the bios flasher to ignore the EC firmware part? I.e., can I use my X220 with BIOS 1.28 and EC Firmware 1.24? Thanks in advance

Answer:X220 - Is there a way to flash older BIOS while keeping newer EC Firmware?

I'm going to guess yes, but it'd work poorly and possibly brick your system.Try asking the BIOS modding forums and see if they can do something.

My Lenovo Z410 came with v37 BIOS dated 2013.I went to Lenovo website and downloaded and ran 8DCN40WW.exeInstead of taking normal time to flash, Windows started rebooting after only a couple sec. No bootup. No beep. No Lenovo logo. Power light comes on. Blank screen (no backlight). After 50+ bootup attempts I sometimes get the blue error message at bootup:InsydeH20 invalid firmware image. After changing RAM positions, and trying the Lenovo "rescue" bootup button, I got a bootup.CPU-Z still shows the BIOS is V37 (ie it didn't flash). I know I have Secure Boot enabled. So, to fix this I believe I need to force flash the old v37 BIOS image. SUGGESTIONS?HELP?

Answer:BIOS v40 flash failed on Lenovo Z410. No boot (screen blank). InsydeH20 invalid image firmware!

Forgot to mention.I already tried "draining power". IE disassembling my laptop, and disconnecting the battery and AC adapter, and holding power button for 60sec+ many times. It doesn't fix the issue. Also, the RAM position etc, obviously has nothing to do with anything. I was able to bootup with exact same 2x DIMM config as originally.

We have IE 6. Say a user goes to The ad on the right is a Flash object. Some of our users will see that object flickering when scrolling up or down on the page or when hovering their mouse over it. It's quite annoying. Almost all users are running Adobe Flash Player 9, but I think I've seen this happen on systems with Macromedia Flash Player 8 as well. Other systems don't have the problem. I've seen this happen on one system and not another while both seemed to have the same Flash objects installed.

Uninstalling all Flash players using Adobe's prescribed Flash Player uninstall tool seems to work at first, but users later complain again. Note that they just about always end up installing Flash Player 9 again, because sites ask for it. I don't believe I've seen this on any XP systems at all, including my own, but most of our users have Win2K.

Does anybody know why this happens or how to permanently fix it?

Answer:Ie 6 - Flash Objects Flickering - Using Adobe Flash Player 9 Activex R28 (shockwave Flash Object V.

More info: Adobe Flash Player 9, Macromedia Flash Player 8, and Macromedia Flash Player 10 all produce the same result--Flash objects that flicker when you put your mouse over any part of them. Moving Flash objects will flicker constantly while moving and stop flickering when the animation is done. SWF files (at least the one at work without a problem when using Adobe Flash Player 9.

If I don't have Adobe Flash Player 9 installed, the Win2K machines prompt me to install them for almost any site that uses Flash (I guess most recent Flash objects cannot be viewed with the older Macromedia Flash Players).

Any suggestions?

Hello All, I'm wondering whether anybody was able to solve this problem. The latest T400 switchable graphic driver includes the fairly old Intel driver and Catalyst 09.7. Catalyst is not an issue for me as no x264 acceleration support for HD Mobility 3xxx chips by AMD and video acceleration worked just fine with the integrated Intel GMA4500 till now under flash videos. With the new flash release (11), it seems video acceleration is not working properly with the old Intel driver anymore. There are many topics out there in which other users has the same problem with their Dell, Asus, etc. laptops. Can we expect a driver update to solve this problem or did anybody find a solution*?  Thanks in advance! *Except turning off switchable graphics and using Intel GPU only with the latest driver from the website of Intel.

My friend recently asked me to help her download some music video flv files from the website MTVIggy. I normally use Orbit Downloader for saving flv's I like from youtube but it doesn't seem to work on this site. I've tried a program called Replay Media Catcher but ut also doesn't work. Does anyone know of a program/tool that is actually capable of downloading the flv files from MTVIggy?

Thank you for your help. It is greatly appreciated.

Answer:How to record rtmp:// flash video .flv stream from embedded Adobe Flash Player

As the site is owned by Viacom/MTV, my guess is that it is DRM (Digital Rights Management) protected and videos can't be downloaded. I normally use Real Player when I need to download embedded videos but I don't think it will work and I'm not aware of a free product that will download DRM protected videos.

When I load certain websites with flash ads and such, everything goes smoothly, untill the flash object loads and starts playing - once it loads the screen flickers and gets kind of hazy. Nothing is really effected or harmed, but the slight haziness/fuzziness is rather anoying. Once I exit the web browser, everything goes back to normal.

It doesn't matter whether I'm using Iexplorer or Opera, so I'm thinking it is directly related to the Macromedia flash player.

I uninstalled Adobe Flash with their uninstall tool because I read somewhere you needed to update it because of major security flaw. I went over to the Adobe website to try and find an update, as well as a tutorial on how to update, as I had no idea what version I had. Their website is a mess unless you want to purchase something, and then you can find whatever your want. Since I had no idea what version of player, I just DL their uninstall tool, then DLed their new flash. I used their uninstall tool, and then reinstalled the new Adobe Flash Player. The only PU that came up was that it couldn't install in Opera. I went looking to try and configure it, then I read in the post below, you had to go to the link, for shockwave, and figured it would lead me to flash and all that crap. I remembered what a PIA it was. I went over there, and it says flash works, but I still don't know if it's the latest flash or not. On the right it says I need to install "other sw", but that probably because I don't have shockwave installed. BTW, when I used their uninstaller from an administrator account, it completely wiped out my FX profile in the limited user account for some reason. It didn't do anything to the FX profiles in the administrator's accounts. I keep an updated copy of the limited user account's FX profile, and just reinstalled it, but I'm sick and tired of adobe flash and all the BS your have ... Read more

Answer:Adobe Flash uninstall tool,& is there a better/safer flash player w/o the hassles?

The flash player for IE and Firefox is in C:\Windows\System32\Macromed\Flash. The IE one is called Flash9f.ocx and for Firefox its NPSWF32.dll.

You can view current version, by going to a page with a flash object on the web page, right click on the Flash object and select About Adobe Flash Player 9 and it will take you to Adobe site and display version.
You can also get version from the files about on the Version or Details tab of its properties.

As for removal, just either use the Uninstall tool in the same folder (See above) or delete all the files in the folder to remove it.

Hey everyone.

I own a Toshiba Satellite A100-283 laptop (PSAA8E-1DL044GR)

I am planning to upgrade the CPU (T1350) to a Dual-Core T2400.

Before I'll open the Laptop in order to install the new CPU, i want to make sure that the BIOS will support it - thus, I want to upgrade the BIOS to the newest 6.00 version available on the Toshiba support site.

The BIOS flash file (S10V600.exe) is a self-extraction RAR file which automatically starts the right WinPhlash process.

Unfortunately, the last step of the WinPhlash process doesn't start.
Instead, the system freezes completely with a 100% CPU utilization (fan spinning at full speed).

The new BIOS doesn't get written to the BIOS chip since i can hard-reboot the laptop and normally start my linux system. The BIOS still is the 2.00 version.

My questions:

- Did any of you who already upgraded the BIOS of this system know what could cause this?
- What operating system did you use to flash the BIOS?

I was running the flash utility on a WinXP SP3 LiveCD (Hiren's Boot CD), loading the BIOS flash file from a USB storage device (I don't have Windows and would like to avoid getting a new SATA drive and installing a "real" windows there just for upgrading my BIOS, but I'd do it if it'd be the only way to get the BIOS flashed)

Your help is greatly appreciated, thank you and greetings from Germany to the rest of Europe!

Answer:Can't flash BIOS on A100 (PSAA8E) - flash process freezes

> Before I'll open the Laptop in order to install the new CPU, i want to make sure that the BIOS will support it - thus, I want to upgrade the BIOS to the newest 6.00 version available on the Toshiba support site

First of all the BIOS update will not help you if the old BIOS would not support the new CPU.
Generally speaking you can use only the CPU which is supported by chipset.
As far as I know the new CPUs are not added to new BIOS versions?

> What operating system did you use to flash the BIOS?
Since the available BIOS version is Windows based version, you should use the Windows which was preinstalled by Toshiba.
In many cases the BIOS update requires VAP (value added package) which is necessary if you run Vista or Win7.

I have got a ThinkCentre M83 SFF Pro Type 10AN-S02E00 that has been working for three years on the original BIOS from the year 2014, probably version FBKT74A or so. This week I moved to Windows 10 and decided to also update BIOS to the latest version, since FBKTB4A "added Win10 support" according to changes.txt, and also there has been important security fixes regarding Intel ME, so I downloaded the latest version FBKTCLA and run the update. The problem is, I know there are two parts in updating the BIOS on these systems (I also got an M93p Tiny), and in my case the first part (afudos.exe imagefb.rom /p /r) runs OK (erasing, updating and verifying main block), but the second part (afudos.exe imagefb.rom /defans /capsule /b /n /r /sp) fails right before erasing giving me15 - Error: Secure Flash function is not supported on this platformand after that no reboot and no second part of the update. After this my system boots OK and BIOS version is reported as FBKTCLA with BIOS date 11/17/2017, butboot block is FB72Aembedded controller is FBCT13ACPU microcode is 306C3_00000017 (08/16/2013)ME version is diagnostic tool is v. 02.09.09Intel VBIOS version 1030So I got the newest BIOS, VBIOS and newest UEFI diagnostic tool but still got old boot block (should be FBCLA), EC (should be FBCT32A), CPU microcode (should be 306C3_00000021 05/10/2016) and ME firmware (should be system works and I have no problems with my Windows 10 install, luckily th... One of my XMS2 sticks failed, so I took the stick out, went into BIOS and loaded default settings. I pressed F10 and saved settings. My computer abruptly shut off and turned back on to go to "boot block" My BIOS got corrupted for no apparent reason. It asked to be fed a CD or USB drive, so I went to my laptop, downloaded the M4A785M BIOS and renamed it, quick formatted the flash drive to NTFS, and put it in the machine. The machine read the flash drive, erased, programmed, and told me to reboot to get system back. Now nothing, just a blank screen, no POST. All fans and lights, the hard drive turns on. I have replaced both sticks with a cheap 2GB PNy stick confirmed working. RAM is not the issue.

I think many of you have tried to download flash files using several flash downloader. But let me tell you, even you can download those flash file present on websites (ex. Flash Games & Ecards) without any Flash Downloader.
Well, let me tell you how I do this without any Flash Downloader, Follow the below steps: 1. Go to any Flash Game site (ex. Cricket Flash Game). 2. Once page is opened, see the last word before the game (ex. In Cricket Flash Game last word before the game is ” Cricket Game:“. Just Copy it. 3. Being on the page, press Ctrl + U (Source of page). 4. Once the Source Page is Opened Search for the word ” Cricket Game:” (explained in 2nd step). 5. In the source page you will get many codes, just below to the word ” Cricket Game:” search for “embed” after “embed” there is the link of Flash game! Copy the Link! (Don’t Click on it otherwise Source page will show the source of Flash game). 6. Open new page in your Browser & paste the Flash File Link. 7. Once page fully opened, Go to File > Save page as, save it anywhere in your PC as a .swf file.
That’s All! You can play the Flash game anytime, no need of Active Internet connection. Source: Tweaking Windows | How to Download Flash Files & games without Flash Downloader

Answer:Download Flash Files & games without Flash Downloader

Hi all.

After a couple time, I noticed my IE stopped showing embedded flash-based videos. That was earlier than IE9 launch. I've then installed the "Beauty of the Web" to try out and was still without this feature. I didn't actually care much, but anyway, this bothers me enough to come here to ask.

Has anyone encountered this behavior? Just the embedded videos aren't playing, but going to YouTube website, I can watch the videos.

My Shockwave preferences are allowing plugin usage for any -- ie, * -- websites. Also, if I open an alternative browser -- Apple Safari 5 --, all works fine.

Finally, this user account is limited. If I open an IE9 window as Administrator, guess what? It works!

I am aware a couple weird stuff happens if you never log on your admin account -- IE, some Blizzard games does not install properly. But I have taken care of logging on to this local admin account to have things set up, but that was still a no-go.

Any clues or suggestions on where to look at? Or report a bug at Adobe website?

I am still struggling with a problem that has plagued me for some days! I have visited the security forum and gotten a lot of great advice from a senior member there.

The problem is this:

Slowly flash files have been not opening in first Internet Explorer and more recently even in Firefox. Oddly, some flash files open, but I haven't been able to play YouTube videos for several months. At first I was able to open YouTube flash files in Firefox. Now, when I click on the flash file, it either goes to a blank white screen with the hourglass or it hangs, halfway open.

I have done many things to try and fix this. I have run Hijack This numerous times. I have worked on several rootkit eliminators. I have picked up a couple of rootkits and eliminated them. At present there doesn't seem to be any rootkit problem, though those suckers may be lurking there or already done damage to my browsing capability.

Here's another thing. When I open IE, I can browse okay for a while, but certain sites won't open. Other sites open more slowly than they used to do. If I close IE completely and reopen it, I can then browse okay, until it gets flakey again!

Does anyone identify this problem or know what may be going on? I have checked my IE options folders numerous times. I have deleted cookies and temp files. I have looked at my add-ons (I run Windows XP Pro). I have booted and rebooted; I've run numerous spyware programs and other registry cleanup programs, etc.

I have... Read more

Answer:Flash Problem: Cannot Open Flash in Browser

Since the problem is with IE and Firefox, it doesn't sound like a browser problem. It may be a JAVA issue though. Make sure you have the latest version. Also make sure to UNINSTALL any older versions, as they have "holes" that can allow malware to run.

Question: Firmware

I recently purchased an nVIDIA 6200AGP8x 350MHz Graphics Card with 512MB For an eight year old Dell Dimension 4600i (P4, 3G HT with a 128 card). As I didn?t think I was getting the full benefit of the new card I checked in BIOS. The maximum it goes to is 256 so I looked the Dell site and saw there were 4 updates, one being video, ok so I downloaded it, and then stopped. I have had a bad experience with firmware (a Plextor drive that refused to work after an update) as a result I am not sure whether to go ahead or not. Ok pathetic but please humour me, do the risks out way the benefits.
Oh, re. the HP on this PC, I noticed it is disabled in BIOS sorry better for a new thread perhaps.

Now lets see if I understand. You have replaced the the original graphics card with a nVIDIA 6200AGP8x 350MHz Graphics Card.
From the Dell web site it only shows one update for the Bios but it does not state what it was for so should not be used.
Although it does have several driver updates for graphics cards these are not for the new card you have installed and should not be used. Go to the nVidia web site for new updated drivers.
From my memory the bios does not indicate how much memory the graphics card uses. I could be wrong.

I'm on DP 8.1.1. With the recent release of cyan for DP users, does any one know if doing the cyan update would take me back to 8.1? Or will it just slap on the firmware alone and still leave me on my current version?

Answer:Firmware only or Firmware with 8.1?

It will leave you at 8.1.1. It is simply a firmware update to Cyan for Lumia devices.

Question: firmware

i am thinkin off flashing my firemware on my dvd burner are there any risks involved

Only risk is that you might completely wreck the drive.Flashing of firmware is not for the faint hearted,or the unsure. You must be 100% certain the file you want (firmware) is definately for your particular model drive.

Question: OEM DVD Firmware

Dvd disk drive won't run DVD's. Makes alot of clicking, spinning noises but wont read disks. Went to HKEY areas and changed some things recom by other forums. Didn't work. Told needed firmware upgrade. Unable to find firmware for Optiarc DVD RW AD-7530A ATA Device because as near as I can find it's an OEM Device. Went back to Gateway(Notebook Manufacturer) and they don't have. Any suggestions? Ifu can't fix, I guess u install a new DVD Device or a new Notebook.
Was also told by Gateway I needed a Codec upgrade.

Answer:OEM DVD Firmware

The codec pack is easy enough- Techspot has what you need here
Install and then try running the discs.

How does the drive show up in the Device Manager ? No exclamation mark in a yellow triangle?
What DVD's won't it run-commercial (retail) movies, or discs you are attempting to burn ? If the latter, what brand of discs.

If it definitely requires a firmware update then it seem's you're out of luck as there are none as far as I can tell.

Question: What is firmware

I have recently had trouble with Genie-Soft backup software. They tell me I need to back up my firmware. I am not sure what they mean by this and their explanation hasnít helped me.

I have Nero installed on my computer and my CD-RW Burner is Imation. I used the Nero Info tool which showed [1.0] G:\CD-RW CDR 6S52 in the top left of the box and Type: CD-RW Recorder and Firmware Version: CDR 6S52.

I went on to the Nero site which states they will not accept responsibility for any firmware updates.

I havenít a clue what Iím supposed to do now. Itís taken me ages to get this far and in all honesty, I donít really know what I am doing. Is the firmware update supposed to be for Nero or Imation. Can anyone help me?

My OS is WinXP Pro

I have a Intel 510 ssd and I looking to add another ssd. Can you have both if they have different firmware. I'm looking at several including Intel 320.
Will this confuse the motherboard bios or Windows 7?

Answer:2 SSD's 2 Different firmware?

I don't think it will give any problems just because of firmwares. After all, it's entirely internal to each device. As long as each one has the proper drivers and the motherboard recognizes each one, they should work.

Question: Firmware for an AP

I have a couple of DLink 900AP's. One has the standard DLink firmware but the other has some specialist firmware for use with a commercial WiFi network.Does anyone know if it's possible to download the non-standard DLink firmware from the 900AP - so I can flash it to my other 900AP?

Answer:Firmware for an AP

No; I think you'd have to find it on the net. Search for whatever info you have even just its revision number. You can usually make backups of router/AP configurations, of course, but although the firwmare is sometimes saved along with it, it may not accept being ported across and you'd lose the other AP's settings in so doing.

Hi,I recently bought my first CD burner. It's a Sony Spessa USB Plus CRX100E/X2 drive. I found out that it can't quite burn an entire 80 min/700MB disk, but that there is supposedly a firmware update that fixes it. I downloaded a firmware update program from Sony's website (found here), and flashed the drive with the default firmware file (CDRW0008.BIN), but it didn't seem to do anything except change the driver to an EEPROM driver. I switched back to the original driver, and it was as if I had never done anything...The firmware program came with another BIN file, ZERO.BIN, so I tried flashing that. I guess that was a mistake, because now the drive doesn't work at all - it's recognized as a "non-specific QT processor with JG". I tried changing the driver back to the original again, but this time Windows won't use it. It just says that there are no compatible drivers for the device. I tried to flash the firmware with the program from Sony again, but now it doesn't recognize the drive as being compatible, so it won't flash it.I was hoping to get some support from Sony, but they informed me that I would have to pay more than I paid for the drive in the first place to get support. So, I hope someone here might have an idea of how I can fix it.

Answer:Is there any way to fix this firmware?

That is why the smarter people here do NOT recommend firmware or BIOS updates lightly. You can end up with a doorstop and no recourse. If the product is still under warranty and doesn't do what is advertised, take it back for a return or replacement with something that does.

Question: Firmware?

I saw the phrase firmware tossed about on a message. What exactly is it?

Firmware is half software, half hardware. Usually it is software embedded permanently into a piece of hardware. Such as the software that runs a digital camera, or drives a USB networking cable.

Can anyone tell me what is firmware?

Answer:what is a firmware?

Firmware - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

In electronic systems and computing, firmware is a term often used to denote the fixed, usually rather small, programs and/or data structures that internally control various electronic devices. Typical examples of devices containing firmware range from end-user products such as remote controls or calculators, through computer parts and devices like hard disks, keyboards, TFT screens or memory cards, all the way to scientific instrumentation and industrial robotics. Also more complex consumer devices, such as mobile phones, digital cameras, synthesizers, etc., contain firmware to enable the device's basic operation as well as implementing higher-level functions.

If you have not unzipped it, do that now, there may/should be a file, normally called README.txt (if not look for any file with a .txt etention). Hopefully this file will have instructions on how to use it, if not, let us know the name of the mp3 player and someone prob can sort your prob.Hope this helps.

Question: firmware?

I heard someone use the word firmware the other day and wondered what the heck it is. After checking out the definition on I am still a little confused on the subject. Anyone care to explain this to me? Please?

well i understand it as a piece of software build into hardware. Examples of firmware are: bios's, video bios's etc.

There is a way of upgrading firmware in hardware like DVD burners to make them faster or burn dual layer.

Hello all,

I am looking for Firmware for DI-614+ wireless router. When I use WEP encryption, no wireless client (laptop) can connect. I have also tried the latest firmware I can get from D-Link. I hoping to use this with my TFCko box or as my access point for my laptop.

If I cannot use it as wireless access point. Is there a firmware hack to make it a wireless client or a repeater?

Thanks for any ideas
