The glory of Tagan (irony intended)

Question: The glory of Tagan (irony intended)

They seem to have posted me an utterly dead PSU. The "Tagan i-xeye 420W" or similar name. I forget. Anyway, it's very dead. No fans. No LEDs. Just my favourite Simon & Garfunkel: The Sounds of Silence. Help?

Preferred Solution: The glory of Tagan (irony intended)

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi all,Looking at upgrading PSU to upgrade my graphics card since current PSU is not going to be good enough, looking at either 420 -430 or 480W range (think 480W might be overkill.Anyway I've read some good reviews online of Tagan's quiet range of PSUs, but this has been kncked back by several negative forum postings regarding strange noises and other things. Also looking at Antec's Truepower range, although I've heard CWT are effectively the same PSUs but branded differently?Basically I want a stable, good and also quiet PC - low noise levels are a must. So if anyone knows anything about Tagan, or any other good but quiet PSUs, please let me know!Cheers ;-)

Greetings!!!
I want to buy a Radeon 5750 but I don't know if my Tagan 430W PSU will be able to handle it.

What do you think? Will I be ok or not?

If the answer is no, is GT 240 1GB a good -low power consumption- alternative?

Thanks in advance!

Answer:Radeon 5750 on a Tagan 430W?

Here is the list of AMD/ATI certified power supplies for Radeon HD Series graphic cards.

I guess it may work alright but a 500 Watt power supply would be more appropriate.

I remember playing it as a kid and was looking for nostalgic satisfaction!

any help would be appreciated.

Nope, I believe AGDI said that re-doing it would not be worth it way back when they were redoing KQ1, too bad.

Question: Quest for Glory 5

From what I can tell I seem to be the only person in the WORLD who has this game but perhaps I'll be lucky.

The next paragraph is really unnecessary ranting about my computers. So skip to the last if you wish.

Vital background information:
I had this charming piece of crap computer called Surly. 48MB RAM, pentium 166 and most importantly Windows 98. A capacitor exploded. Surly died. Rather than lose all the nifty stuff stored on my harddrive, I put said harddrive into an EVEN CRAPPIER computer called Deep Thought (which is ironic for those of you who know who Deep Thought is) which had a whopping 32MB RAM and all the accompanying slow things. Like Windows 95. Anyway, it was too slow to run my cool QFG5 game so I decided I'd put it on XP. Which didn't work. Then 2000. Which didn't work.

The point of the tale being, does anyone know how to get it working on XP or 2000? It's old, hence 98 is all it's supposed to work with. It installs ok but when I attempt to start it, the first screen pops up. And pops straight back down again. Nothing further occurs.

Answer:Quest for Glory 5

With XP, have you tried running the Program Compatibility Wizard? It's at Programs -> Accessories -> Program Compatibility Wizard.

Tell it to run that program as if you have Windows 95/98.

I think I put this in wrong forum whoops X(

Ok, I know Win95 is a litte, (or perhaps a LOT) old school, but to date I have been using my faithful Gateway 2000 for late night, hardcore DOS gaming.

The bad news
The other day, I started it up, thinking that I would spend a nice long time with my DOS games. It goes past the first bit where it beeps and says 'Win95 starting up...' then it goes to the colourful Windows 95 screen. Then... it shuts off completely. I tried several more times, but same end to the story. Then dad tried to fix it with some crazy boot disks and such, but to no avail. It seems it was not detecting the CDrom drive (E:/) yet there have been no past problems concerning it. So we instantly lost hope (it's 10 years old) and took it apart in preparation for computer heaven. (It was a good machine) But now dad has regained hope and has decided to keep the bits and muck around with it, which MIGHT prove fatal, so I need quick help.
The Part that I don't know has relevance
I recently installed one of those cheapy-games that *supposedly* runs on 95, but I didn't read the specs carefully enough and it didn't work. So, I killed it. It DID require 850MB, so I moved a few games to the other drive (2g) and then tried it. That wouldn't have affected anything because they weren't systemular necessary files etc etc. I didn't touch anything like that. The last thing I did was play Princess Maker 2. :/ Unless the computer did... Read more

Hi all,

I know it's not a good way to make your first post on a forum but I'd like to recommend you a game. The one of the kind, that will most likely make some of you shed a tear. Do any of you remember Adom and Nethack? Or MUDs of any kind?
Well, I would like to present to you Genesis, the first LPMUD out there.
I have been playing it continuously for the past 12 or so years and I've always enjoyed it. Today's MMORPGs don't even come close to this one, offering a large variety of possibilities regarding your character (you're not bound to certain race, guild, class or whatever throughout the game, you can switch almost at will), there's something for both hardcore powerplayers and roleplayers. It doesn't take any space on your hard drive (unless you want to run it from some clinet instead of raw telnet). But enough of my talking here, check it all out by yourselves here:
http://www.genesismud.org/

And enjoy!

Okay, this is random, but I try to install the game but it just closes the menu and nothing happens after I click on the "install" button, I have had this game installed before, but, it was so long ago I don't remember how I got it on there. I even have an image file and when you run that it does the same thing and there is nothing wrong with the disk, no scratches. I'd really appreciate help with this.

If you know anything about this problem and how to fix it can you please post a resolution or statement in this thread. I didn't post this in the Imperial Glory forum because it won't let me post for no reason.

Hi. Just wondering if there is any one out there that could look at my system specs and give me their oppinion on whether I should buy either the Tagan TG800BZ or the Hiper HPU-5B880. I am leaning more towards the Hiper unit at the moment as I have a 580 watt version that has served me well and the Hiper also has 30 amps per 12 V rail compared with the Tagans 20 amps, I also read somewhere that my GPU setup requires a lot of amps. Any oppinions welcome, thanks.

The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion is out as of today. I prepaid for it, and even bought a 20in WS LCD to replace my POS 19in 25ms LCD for the game.

Late last night, my PC died. Thats right, dead. I walked into the room to find it stuck on a stop error. So I rebooted. Stop error again. So I booted to Safe Mode. Stop error. I booted to a WinPE CD. Stop error. I ran memtest from a CD. A few hours later, I had accumulated a good oh...5 million some odd errors.

So I shut off the PC, and removed a stick of Ram. Turn the machine on and what do I see?

BIOS Checksum Bad. Starting Recovery...

So I put in the Asus CD, and it automatically reflashes the BIOS. Reboot. Same problem.

So I try the other ram stick. Not even a video response. Same in all slots. I tried other ram. Once again, nothing but the fans fired up.

So here I sit today, pondering just how cool Oblivion is, knowing I can't play it for at least two weeks while my RMAs(for the mb and ram) are being processed.

I hate computers.

After many months of fine help from people on tsg forums, i have realised that this computer is clunking towards a halt and have ordered a new one from dell. The realisation that the average ipod has 10x the hard drive of my pc helped, but the local company offering broadband for less than my dial up means i am switching at the end of the month and want a fresh start.

The new machine will be a dell dimension 8400:
P4 530 (3.00GHz, 800fsb, 1MB cache)
1024MB Dual Channel DDR2 400MHz
160GB (7200rpm) Serial ATA Hard Drive with 8MB DataBurst cache
128 MB PCI Express x16 ATI Radeon X300 SE
48x/32x/48x/16x CDRW/DVD-ROM combo drive

I mainly use the desktop for work and pootling (my current word of the month: http://www.answers.com/pootle) about on the internet.
I do have a modest interest in games when i have the time though. I realise this machine is not for high end gaming, however i do not want to run the very latest games with all the graphics maxed out.

The only thing i am concerned about is the graphics card. I couldnt find many reviews googling the model although those i did find were not all together complimentary. Adding 250 to the price for a 256mb nvidia card seemed VERY pricey. To get to the point, would i be able to play rome:total war or imperial glory at a reasonable level with this system or would i need a new gfx card? If these are beynd its capabilities would something like battlefield 1942 run ok? I understand these are relatively new and system draining ... Read more

Hello!

OS: Vista home basic (have tried twice to download Service Pack 1 and both times it has gone through the whole rigmarole and then FAILED. Ugh.). Chrome browser.

I moved out of NYC to the boondocks. So, I am on dialup at home, and borrow WiFi at McDonald's & wherever else I can get it.

Was on WiFi last week and spending too much time "Resolving Host." Everything started with the long "resolving host" wait times.

Checked Chrome Extensions and found that three misspelled versions of something similar to "download keeper" had inserted extensions onto my Chrome (looking like "DoWnLoAd keeepEUR" or something like that, three different variations--since deleted). Also, an IP had been inserted in my hosts file, also immediately deleted.

Deleting those weird Extensions and cleaning up the Hosts file helped, but not entirely. So I read about disabling IPv6, and inserted FFFFFFFF into the appropriate place in the registry, which did not speed up my connection at all: still "resolving host" problems and unusually slow (now on dialup this week, and yes, dialup is slow, but, not like this).

So, yesterday connected to WiFi at the local library to go through the malware removal process recommended by majorgeeks (did it once before on this PC in 2010, and on a previous machine in 2006), and a few things were found yesterday--but I had to re-create my dial-up connection today after booting up the PC again--and ... It's not really a problem, but here goes anyway.

I've spent the past couple days here trying to help people with various problems. Turns out, most of those problems were power-related. PS quits, or symptoms of a bad PS, or ways to diagnose. You name it, it usually circled around power supplies.

About 8PM tonight (EST) my power supply quit on me.

After about a half hour solid of laughing at the irony of the situation, I found out the 3.3v supply lines were deceased, but the 5v and 12v were fine.

I have an old AT-style chassis that's loaded with drive bays, and no PS. And somewhere in my garage, I have a dusty old PCI backplane board from an older Dell machine. (I saved it because I had noticed that the expansion slots were wired straight-through without interruption, making it usable for expanding expansion. heh)

I'm gonna use that board, the old chassis, and this defunct power supply unit to build a massive expansion chassis and drive housing system.

Now that I think of it, there is a teensy little problem there. How do you turn on an ATX power supply in one chassis by throwing the power switch on the main computer? Any gizmo tinkerers out there have any ideas on this?

Answer:Solved: Oh! The irony! LOL (power problem)

You can jump start an ATX powersupply by shorting a pair of the wires in the 20pin plug, there are guides on the web on how to do this, Google for "jump start atx powersupply".

I never run antivirus at home...I run antivirus at work.

My work computer is the one that got hit today and I have no idea how. I did not go to any websites other than Microsoft to get another Win7 key. Every thing was fine this morning until I stepped away for 20 minutes. I come back and my computer is FUBARED.

Go to google.com, do a search. Every time I click on link that starts with "go.google.com", I get redirected to something like 64.117.xx.xxx, I forgot the full address.

If I try to run Malwarebytes, SuperAntiSpyware, the apps start and then crash immediately. Likewise, I can not go to either website, I get forwarded to some fake anti spyware software site.

Absolutely nothing in my running services, hosts file was untampered, nothing in startup...I couldn't find what the deal was at all.

Searches for people with my problem came up with nothing useful that would help me resolve the issue. So, I had to back up my files and reinstall Windows(installed Win7 this time).

What baffles me is how I got this and that there is little to no information on people experiencing the same issues. My computer was 100% up to date, antivirus was up to date, and I had not gone to any website different than normal, hell I wasn't even at my computer(which was locked when im afk).

BTW: I'm using the most up to date version of Firefox, I thought it was impervious

Had the same issue at work to. Apparnetly its a driver that redirects most search engines to the go subdomain. Go to your device manager, show hidden devices, and check under Non-Plug and Play Drivers for any driver that has a .sys on the end. Think it starts with Q or V. Disable, not uninstall, the driver. Once its disabled, restart, then uninstall it.

Once its gone, try installing Malwarebyte's Anti-Spyware in safe mode. Try running it in safe mode too. Most of the rogue files that it removes that come with this driver are in the System32 directory.

Hello in There All,
What is about to be described is a grotesque irony; please bear with me.
The system is WinXP Pro SP3 build 2600-install disc is WinXP Pro SP1 version 2002.
Was simply setting up network connection thru network connections/wizard; prompted to reboot for changes to take effect, rebooted, and unholy Beelzebub, the system arbitrarily and independently created a boot password screen with my username and a password from another world, unbeknownst to and not initiated by me. Good Grief! Well, attempted 3rd party utilities (0PHCrack, OFFLINE NT Password/Registry)to no avail. At password screen, it will not recognize CTRL+ALT+DEL(2).There is no hidden administrator selection. Can access DOS thru install disc repair feature, but it does not support CMD (not in 'help' list). Cannot even enter Safe Mode because the password screen is there first. Was suggested I try Ubuntu, Mint, (not familiar with, and have not yet tried them). Grotesque insult to ironic injury, nobody will help me because TSL rules expressly forbid password breach assistance (and I do understand the malevolent potential), but this IS my distressed conundrum. The system did NOT ask, advise, nor inform me of what it did until it was done. Now Bill's boondoggle is my nightmare; locked out of my own machine, clueless. What in the universe is one to do? If there is a Mighty Tech somewhere with the solution, there is nothing I would not do to express my supreme gratitude. 9 1 1 to the Tech World. Ple... Read more

After watching my laptop update for nearly 20 minutes, sitting at 100% I had to force the power off and reboot the system. Now it is re-running through the update process. The supposed auto updates are to make the OS safer, but I think forcefully shutting off the power to use your PC mid update is more likely to cause problems to your OS install than any supposed security hole. The long load times force many users to force the system off mid update due to the updater choosing its own schedule, which tends to be in the most inconvenient times. I merely wanted to use the SD card on my laptop, a 30 second task. Not wait 20+ minutes for an unexpected update that would hang at 100%.

I can imagine for the typical user who needs to use their PC in a hurry or turn off their PC in a hurry as they have to leave/conserve batter life forcefully powering off their OS will cause more instability in the long run.

My options are to buy Win 10 Pro for my laptop and likely reinstall the OS, which I do not care to do. Or buy an SD card reader for my desktop. I think the SD card reader will be cheaper/more handy.

Considering most laptops don't come with Win 10 Pro, it makes going Apple a much more real possibility for me laptop wise in the future. It is not like I can customize or built my laptop anyways. I can only imagine the typical laptop user being even more frustrated than I am due to the extremely inconvenient updater with a low reliability rate.

My short rant is over.

Here?s a lovely bit of irony for you: Adblock Plus, which is by far the most popular add-on for Firefox and Chrome, is actually increasing the amount of memory used by your web browser, rather than decreasing it. Furthermore, ABP also increases the amount of time (and CPU cycles) required to render a website. Instead of making web surfing more responsive, ABP actually makes your surfing experience slower.

This might seem counterintuitive at first ? after all, ABP blocks all of those annoying animated Flash ads from loading, and so it should save you from unnecessary memory and CPU hits. Unfortunately, the actual situation is a lot more complex than that. Basically, ABP has grown too big for its own good, and just the very process of running ABP in your web browser consumes more memory and CPU cycles than it saves.
How Adblock Plus works

To begin with, according to Mozilla developer Nicholas Nethercote, there is a 60-70MB memory hit having Adblock Plus run in the background on Firefox. The main problem, though, is the process by which ABP actually blocks ads. Basically, ABP inserts a massive CSS stylesheet ? occupying around 4MB of RAM ? into every single webpage that you visit, stripping out the ads. This wouldn?t be a problem if we were still in the ?90s or early ?00s, but nowadays it is very common for a webpage to have lots of iframes, which are separate, individual webpages that are loaded and embedded within the page you?re currently looking at. Some of the things I am experiencing...

Every site that has banners (including this one!) gets their usual banners replaced to Vimax (apparently a natural male enhancement pill) banners.

I have downloaded AVG, Spybot, and Norton, when trying to update their definitions they all fail to connect.

I cannot download ANYTHING from the microsoft website, it gives me a connection error.

I cannot run a system defrag (when clicking analyze/defragment I get the error "Disk Degragmenter could not start.") This is the case for both my hard drives.

None of my spyware/virus scans can ever detect anything.

Hey guys, i know you're probably sick and tired of the same old trojan problems, and i have another one. I have installed at least a half a dozen trial/freeware anti virus programs and if they are even able to install they haven't been effective.

Here's my problem
1. The pop up balloon saying im infected (icon is that of this thread's icon), e.g. "System Alert: Malware Threat"
2. "Internet Explorer Alert!" asking to buy and download software
3. Another error message, when closed, that opens up an anti virus download page in IE
4. IE explorer windows that open fairly often, and will keep opening if the computer is left on. Kills the RAM
5. creates 2 desktop icons with windows security icons, if i delete them, they are recreated withing a minute or so
6. Kills most network activity other than Firefox and IE, cant log on to gmail, cant download most updates, none of the anti virus programs that require a connection to be made work

Here's what I've done so far:
1. Webroot Spysweeper, updated it and ran, picked up a few traces, but didn't fix
2. Then my computer totally crashed, couldn't even run explorer.exe or use the task manager, i reinstalled windows, keeping all my personal data. It allowed me to run again, but the virus was still there
3. first i ran Hijackthis, saved the log file, but ill post the newest one that i just did recently
4. Smitfraudfix in safe mode: it ran ok, but nothing happened afterwards

When I try and re-install my ide driver for windows xp laptop in sig I get this error when trying to install the via ide driver.

"Driver is not intended for this platform" when trying to install the primary and secondary ide devices. The via bus master installs just fine but I cannot get the primary and secondary drivers installed.

Answer:Driver Is not Intended for this platform?

Well, not knowing the OS your using, it's probably not needed. XP doesn't need chipsets drivers for some chipsets.

Driver is not intended for this platform

If you keep getting the following error message:

There is a problem installing this hardware.

IDE channel

An error occurred during the installation of the device. Driver is not intended for this platform.

then the way out is to rename C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\atapi.sys (or a similar path on your computer) to something like atapi.old.

If that's not possible, you can try it from the repair console (boot from the Windows install CD and select the repair console).

If Windows always automatically recreates atapi.sys, you can try renaming it in safe mode or from a command line window or you can try to rename or remove it in the driver cache as well.

I WOULD LIKE TO SAY A REALLY BIG THANKS TO www.michna.com FOR THIS FIX
Here is a link to the webpage for this fix and many others http://www.michna.com/kb/WxDMA.htm

For me just Deleting the ATAPI.SYS file worked a like a dream.

i know normally people who ask this just need a 64bit driver but this one isnt so simple. im trying to connect a motorola G4 to my PC with the diag ports enabled, so first off i installed motorola device manager which auto installs the correct drivers. on
my win10 system all was fine, but on my win 7 system it just said no driver could be found, which seemed odd because i knew id just installed them.
so i went out and grabbed some driver packs and installed them directly with dpinst64 they installed but still the moto devices couldnt find a driver, so i decided to force the issue and went down the "have disk" route, when i tried this i got
a message saying the driver is not intended for my platform, i double check the infs, yep theyre definitely for a win 7 x64 machine, i check my machine and to my complete lack of surprise it is still a win 7 x64 install so what is going on? i know the drivers
work and are correct, i know theyre for the right version of windows, so why does windows disagree with me?? (i cant make a lick of sense out of this)

Long story -
laptop bought 2nd hand with win 7 (later found out it was some dodgy upgrade or maybe illegal copy)
Just bought a disc on ebay with COA sticker sealed in the envelope , it is marked as not for commercial resale but intended for refurbished pc use - which is what i am trying to do.
However the activation is rejected due to the key being invalid.
Supposedly i can return it but this supplier has 99 % positive feedback so they must work ...
Is there some trick to to the install that i have missed maybe ?

Answer:using a win 7 disc intended for refurb pc

This is ok now .

I have had a more than occasional occurrence of random objects on my desktop highlighting when I click on ONE with the intent to Drag and Drop (left click hold). This has caused big problems when I have dropped something into the Recycle using the SHIFT key!!! It will even occur (apparently) when the unintended object is overlayed by an open window..and unseen! I have even had a single click on a selected item highlight EVERY icon on the desktop !

By the way I am using the Touchpad, not an attached mouse. No special settings, movement is Fast, Double Click is in the middle, Tap Zones off, Tap and Drag on but I do not use that.

Is anyone else experiencing this, or am I the only blessed one?

Thanks,

When installing drivers after a retail XP install on a Sony Vaio this error message comes up:

"this update is not intended for use with your computer model"

So do this:

1) Goto C:\Documents and Setting\?Your profile Name? \Local settings\ temp and clear out all the files, you will need to leave this open to get to the drivers.

2) Goto your ?windows? folder and look for a file called ?Model.txt? (if by some chance its not there, run the install drivers you just downloaded and it will be created. What sony does is assign Model #s to each driver you down load and then when you start the install it will check the a chip on the Laptop mainboard for you model ? it will then put that model in the ?Model.txt? file.

3) Now this is how I get the Sony drivers/apps I need: open the ?Model.txt? file, replace your Model # with the Model number you pulled drivers off of. leave your ?windows? folder open and in view.

4) Start the installer (pause now) go back to the Model.txt? file open it and your ?Model? is back, change it again and save.

5) Go back to the installer and continue, watch the temp directory (which should still be open) and what will happen is the installer will attempt to install the drivers by 1st extracting the drivers to your temp directory (pay attention to that folder C:\Documents and Setting\?Your profile Name? \Local settings\ temp, so you can copy all files out of there to use later) but after that will most not install the driver ? or it might look l... When I start up my [new -- sigh] computer, a screen pops up saying

reboot and select proper boot device
or insert boot Media in selected boot device and press a keyClick to expand...

However, this screen has a bunch of blocks and bricks through it, some of the letters are missing because of this, so I can't really read it. Any idea what is causing this?

The computer came with an HDD cable and a cross fire card or something, both packaged but uninstalled so I'm assuming they aren't necessary for the thing to run.

Anyway, any and all possible solutions are welcome.

This is a problem that affects ALL web browsers I use, which include 4 very different ones.
Basically, the problem is that randomly, any one or more websites I may go to, whether I have been to them before or not, will think a different website is located at the address instead, and load the site as if it were the one it thinks it is. I may for example load this site, and it may end up thinking the address is for google instead, and load google instead of this site. It is very annoying to say the least.
However, whenever I clear my DNS cache, every site goes back to normal, and all sites load correctly, though it only is fixed temporarily before the problem starts happening again, usually when I close a web browser, so i think it may be a problem regarding my DNS. MY computer is a Dell Dimension E310 running Windows XP Media Center Edition.

Also, another probably unrelated problem is that it is currently impossible for me to download Firefox add-ons when they are being downloaded from Mozilla's official server for add-ons. The add-on installer is unable to find the add-ons on the server. Even clearing my DNS cache doesn't solve this one.

If anyone might have some solutions to my main problem, please share them. Any solutions to the second problem are not as high a priority for me, but would be nice also. Thank you for your time.

I have a problem in that whenever I try to open a file, it tries to open with a different software application then it was made/saved in. For example, all the icons on my desktop now display the Microsoft Excel logo and try to open with Excel when I click on them. If I right click and try to open a Word file with Word and I check the box to convert all files like that to open with Word, then all my desktop icons become Word files. They all end in "Ink".

I have Spybot, Trend Micro's Internet Security and Lavasoft's Ad-Aware Professional SE installed and have run them repeatedly. I have gone into safe mode and tried a system to restore to prior dates to no avail. Neither Microsoft SP-2 Tech Support, IBM [my computer mfr], Trend Micro nor Lavasoft have been able to help. Lavasoft's forum help said I have had my registry hijacked. See this thread for details: http://www.lavasoftsupport.com/index.php?showtopic=50539.

Following that, I ran all of the scans suggested on this website before making a post. They include: A Squared 2; About Buster; Ad-Aware; AdSpy; Avast; CC Cleaner; CW Shredder; HS Remove; Kill 2 Me;McAfee; Process Explorer; RAV; Spy Blaster; Spybot; and Trojan Scan. Some found some infections that were, I expect, removed. I saved logs on those that would let me do so.

New IM worm chats with intended victimsBy Joris EversStaff Writer, CNET News.comPublished: December 6, 2005, 5:43 PM PST A new worm that targets users of America Online's AOL Instant Messenger is believed to be the first that actually chats with the intended victim to dupe the target into activating a malicious payload...According to IMlogic, the worm, dubbed IM.Myspace04.AIM, has arrived in instant messages that state: "lol thats cool" and included a URL to a malicious file "clarissa17.pif." I have Windows XP Pro, SP2.

In Windows Explorer when I drag and drop to make a copy/move, I drag the object (file, folder) over and highlight the intended place to drop and then drop. I drag with right finger so I will be asked if I want to copy or move. But often the object doesn't go into the highlighted object. When this happens I just "Undo" the move. But I'd like for the copy/move to work right the first time.

Often the object ends up in an adjacent object. But sometimes I can't find it at all. Can somebody please tell me if I'm doing something wrong and/or what I should do.

Thanks,

royeo

Answer:In Explorer often copy/moves don't go where intended

go to the item you want to copy and use the edit option in the upper left corner and select all, then edit again hit copy . now open the intended target, edit again then paste.

Apologize for re-posting same issue but re-stating for clarification. The computer works fine with default VGA graphics (poor), but shuts down almost immediately when Intel HD 3000 graphics are used. All hardware tests pass including the system board but the component test for video palette check fails.  I assume that is the Intel graphics chip but I don't know if it can be repaired or replaced....or will anything else cause the described problem? I have an almost identitical issue with a Macbook Pro with Intel High Res Graphics. Works fine with low res graphics aps so I fear that it is an unresolvable Intel embed issue.

Answer:3 responses from previous question were well intended but no...

Hi bmelton, I took a look through your previous thread and it looks like you did get a failure ID from the diagnostics test. Looking through that it does look like there is a problem with the embedded GPU. The embedded GPU is located on your processor (which appears to be an i3-2330m). To resolve the issue the processor would need to be replaced. It looks like your system is out of warranty so the only repair options would be billable; I would recommend contacting HP Customer Support at +1 800 474 6836 and see what options are available. You would want to provide them with the following: Serial NumberProduct Number24-character Failure ID (RK4D7Q-5ST84B-MFPV4K-Q29G03) Based on the age of the system HP may not stock the parts anymore for the Pavilion G7-1260US - the Customer Support team would know for certain.

I have this notebook I upgraded from Vista Home Basic to 7 Home Basic. After the upgrade I found a new folder named Windows.old, which I deleted after double-checking. There was a couple of problems, like two Program files folders, some missing icons from the start menu, but nothing to worry about too much, and all have been fixed.

Now I intend to do a second upgrade on the very same machine, this time from 7 Home Basic to 7 Home Premium, and ask you to please give me some advice.

The system is working well with 7 HB, but I wonder if 7 HP might do any improvement other than those few extra features of Home Premium and the looks (all welcome). Besides, I wonder if I will face any problem with this intended new upgrade.

System specs:

Windows 7 Home Basic 32-bit
Intel Pentium T2060 1.60 GHz (CPU-Z says it's T2050)
2 GB RAM
110 GB HD
If you need more info, please let me know. TIA.

Any forwarded mail or newly composed mail does not appear to the recipient as I sent it. If i send mail to myself my font Comic Sans is always defaulted to Calibri. some jokes i forwarded were unreadable due to format changes. This is a fairly recent problem I believe.

Answer:mails not appearing to recipient as intended

If this is recent it maybe due to some updates you have recieved but thats only a stab in the dark. You could try a repair of Windows Live mail. To do this go to control panel> programs and features, click on Microsoft Live Essentials and you will be given a choice to unistall or repair Windows Live Components. Back up your mail and contacts first just to be safe.

Hey everyone,

I just wanted to know: At some point this summer, my dad will be purchasing (on eBay, of course) a current copy of Visual Studio, and he plans to let me use it, too, because I am thinking of making Application Design a career for myself. And, being a total programming newbie,i have no idea how it's supposed to work. I know some basic HTML/bbCode, and Dad says that programming is kind of like that (he's a programmer too.) Is there anything I should know before I start off? Does anyone reccommend a specific tutorial or how-to book, or do you have do's and dont's about starting off? Thanks! I appreciate your time in answering this.

What is most confusing to me (other than the fact that I can sometimes reply to emails and send new ones) is the fact that sometimes when I send an email and receive this message, it actually does send the email.

Hi, I'm trying to update the BIOS to the latest version using the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics but it's giving an error of ?BIOS Image File Specified is not intended for this system?. The 'System Board ID' is 80D1 and current 'BIOS Version' is F.16 (it was F.19 but I've had to restore it and F.16 must have been the original version on the machine). I've downloaded the latest version F.1D and used the .exe to write it to a USB. I'm then selecting the 080D1.bin file in the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics and it's giving me an error of ?BIOS Image File Specified is not intended for this system?. As far as I can see I'm selecting the correct .bin file for the 'System Board ID'. The only .bin file I can get it to not give that error is the 080DX.bin, but that fails with another error and also leaves the BIOS corrupted (hence why it's been restored to version F.16). The reason I'm trying this is because the machine has gone in to an endless cycle of a pale blue error screen that then tries to do an automatic repair that fails, then displays the same pale blue error screen and so on. I can't get in to Windows 10 and the repair USB I'd prepared when I first got the laptop does nothing. I've also downloaded Windows 10 and created a bootable USB to try and repair Windows, but that comes up with the setup screen briefly then is followed by the same pale blue error screen. I've performed the extensive hard drive test and memory test and all OK. I can also still boot to Ku... Read more

> the machine has gone in to an endless cycle of a pale blue error screen that then tries to do an automatic repair that fails, then displays the same pale blue error screen and so on.  This implies that the hardware is at least mostly-OK, which implies that you have a "software" problem. Personally, I'm not a fan of updating the BIOS as one of the "early" steps in trouble-shooting; I think that usually the problem is "elsewhere" in the hardware.  But, in your case, that's water-under-the-bridge. > I've performed the extensive hard drive test and memory test and all OK. Inexpensive suggestion:  see: www.memtest86.com  for a bootable USB/CD RAM tester, for a "second opinion". Expensive suggestion: replace the hard-drive (maybe with a SSD?) even though it has "passed" previous tests, and try to Install Windows. Is the computer overheating?  (Not likely, since it runs until it "blue-screens", rather than freezing or spontaneously rebooting.)

Aright, first off...I tried pfSense, and it's a bit complicated (I could figure it out probably, but whatever)...heres the machine's specs:

2x Xeon 2.4ghz
2gb RDRAM (god damn rambus)
2x 80gb SCSI drives 10k rpm
4x Linksys Gigabit NICs

So, I could stick w/ pfSense, try IPCOP or Untangle or ClarkConnect...or I could go the windows route and do SBS or ISA Server. I have valid legal licenses for both the MS products, so its not a terrible option. I'm not a Linux freak, in fact, I'm more comfortable w/ Windows. Just wanna know what the best option is. The config I want is:

NIC 1 - WAN
NIC 2 - LAN
NIC 3 - DMZ
NIC 4 - To WIFI access point

Answer:Turning computer into router...which route should i go (no pun intended)

I run Pfsense as my home firewall (A dual 550 PIII).

It's not bad for what it is but, to me the features almost seem lacking.
Smoothwall seems to give more options but, I've had problems with it.

As for utangle or clarkconnect, someone will have to chime in.

I ran IPcop at school on a project and it's not bad but, you CANNOT add custom rules without a good knowledge of linux (its a BSD derivative I think).

Outlook 2003 / Internet Explorer 8 / Windows XP

When I send an e-mail with a photo, Outlook sends the photo that I intended (as it should), BUT then it adds an attachment that includes random photos that I have previously sent to others.

There doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason as to how it selects the photos that it wrongly sends. I do nothing to prompt it to send these random photos.

If it doesn't add an attachment, then it adds these random photos to the forward and back buttons on the bottom of the photo that I intended to send. If the recipient clicks on the forward or back buttons, then they have access to these random photos.

This has been going on for years. I don't send too many photos so I never took the time to check out a solution. I use Outlook almost 24/7 in my business and I have no other problems with any other aspect of Outlook. I have been using Outlook for many years.

Thanks for any help you can provide. al2

Answer:E-mail sends random photos not intended to be sent

You may want to first check your Signature settings in Outlook. Looks like some html code with a link to a photo album is getting embedded to each email. Try sending a plain text mail and see how it looks. Also send one to yourself and see how you receive.

I'm am pretty certain this started after running a file downloaded from hxxp://microsoftmedicenter.com/pluginerror/[/url]
I ran Combofix, and have it's log available also.

(Pardon the botched title. Character limits suck.)

I have switched my previous processor (AMD A10-5800K APU with Radeon HD Graphics 3.80 GHz) to the processor that was in another computer (linux-fedora)(AMD A6-6420K APU with Radeon HD Graphics 4.0Ghz).

I have applied new thermal paste and temperatures idle at around 25C and under stress they don't exceed 55C (max safe is 70C). The processor seems to run anywhere between 1.8GHz to 4.3GHz at any given time (no overclock).

At this point I removed my previous GPU (EVGA SSC 01G-P4-3652-KR GeForce GTX 650 Ti 1GB 128-bit GDDR5) and installed it in the linux machine. I ran on the integrated graphics of the processor (the A6) without drivers for a couple days until my new GPU arrived.
Windows ran in what I suppose was software rendering making things look buggy and having the CPU run around at least 20% or more all the time (I was expecting this from running the integrated graphics without drivers).
Then I decided to play Minecraft with my friends and I had to install the AMD proprietary drivers. They did not help in the CPU usage department and I could not run my server without my friends lagging. Minecraft ran at about 10 FPS which seems odd to me as I'm pretty sure that the graphical capabilities of my APU are enough to run it decently better. But Aero was restored and dragging windows no longer created visual artifacts.

Then, the next day I received my new EVGA GeForce GTX 780 Superclocked 3GB 384-Bit GDDR5. I uninstalled all ... Read more

Answer:Upgrade GPU and CPU. CPU usage very high. GPU not perform as intended.

Maybe try a few simple things first, in your BIOS is the cpu unlocked? not sure if APU's have these features i only ever had i7's or AMD FX's, also is there an option to disable onboard graphics?

Secondly do you have a spare HDD or SSD floating around that you can try a fresh installation of windows on, in my past expereinces windows always hated me changing mobo's, cpu's, GPU's (cross brand) whenever i do significant hardware swaps i always start fresh with windows.

Try a CPU bench utility as it seems this is where your having most problems, this could also cause your gpu to under perform as the cpu could be bottlenecking.

when Vista came out, everybody downgraded to Windows XP, thus Windows XP support was extended for several years longer than what Microsoft intended. with Windows 8 and many other people downgrading to Windows 7, do you think the same will happen for Windows 7?

Answer:Discuss - you think Windows 7 will live longer than Microsoft intended

While the reasons you gave for XP being extended, M$ has made it pretty clear it has no intention of extending Win 7. It won't even make a SP2.

ok so i just upgraded to windows 10 and i love it so far, but one small thing my mSSD cache drive dosent seem to be working well. its installed and the drivers and bios are setup, and the drive says it's accelerated but not having a effect on my system.
system still boots slow and apps still open slow for the first 3 minutes meaning the cache drive is not "cache-ing"

anyone else with a mSSD cache drive have similar issue?

Answer:mSSD Acceleration cache drive not working as intended?

This is probably a 5400RPM HDD which is slow by design. The cache has to build up before it will have any effect. A 'cold' cache will not help at first. Once you are in the swing of things, performance should get better. It is a similar effect like Superfetch for RAM.

It is my daily computer for school as a comp sci student. I don't intend on gaming on it. HEllo! I have Satelite L30-114 which i purchase about month ago.I have Win XP SP2 with all updates, and bios 2.3.

Couple days ago i tried to reinstall drivers for ide controllers. I have delited them in "device manager" and restart system. after boot windows normally found both PCI IDE controllers, installed them, then found ide channels (primary and secondary ide channal on ich) and here strange thing happens: instead of normal installation of these 4 channels the window appears "Driver Not Intended For This Platform". and after every reboot these devices trying to install, giving me 4 windows "Driver Not Intended For This Platform".

Now in device manager i have 2 normal standart IDE Controllers, and 4 don't working IDE channels with yelow "!". The funniest is that i was not installing new ide drivers.Drivers are same that was working before reinstall. Now computer working, but worth than before. on the toshiba site there is no Ide driver "Intended For This Platform".

Did somebody know how can i fix it? or where is such driver located? or what model of chipset whith this controller used in this notebook?

Answer:Satelite L30-114: Driver Not Intended For This Platform when IDE controller installing

Hello

In my opinion there was no reason to do something like that. If notebook works well let it go. Go to Toshiba download page and download chipset driver for your notebook model and install it manually.

I'm having an odd problem with outgoing email in Outlook 2003. I just got a new laptop w/XP Pro and loaded the MS Office Standard Suite w/SP1. I also downloaded and installed Office SP3.I set up Outlook email w/all my POP3 settings and tested the settings in Outlook -- all fine. Incoming email is no problem. However for some outgoing emails, I get an immediate (and I mean instantaneous) bounce-back message that looks like the following:Your message did not reach some or all of the intended recipients.      Subject:   Test      Sent:   2/5/2010 12:13 PMThe following recipient(s) could not be reached:      [email protected] on 2/5/2010 12:13 PM            None of your e-mail accounts could send to this recipient. It problem seems to be specific to certain email addresses. Some addresses I send to are fine; others get that instant bounce back. And there seems to be no domain patterns. For example, some gmail addresses work, others don't.   to check to make sure it's not my ISP or settings, I set up Outlook Express w/the same settings and all emails went out flawlessly -- no bounce back issue. What's curious is how quickly the emails bounce back. It's not like it's traveling to the recipient, and being processed, and then returned.  It's like it's being immediately rejected. I've uninstalled and re-installed Outlo... Read more

Frequently, not always, my up-to-date copy of Google Chrome fails to load Google Search. Particularly if I use the search/address bar, but even if I enter google.com. Other google sites load. In fact, when this happens, I just use the search web box in Gmail. Other sites have no problem loading and the computer is running fine. Other browsers (ie, firefox) never have a problem loading google.

Any ideas why this is happening? I ran through the malware removal guide months ago, but I'm going to do it again. I searched the boards and google and didn't find anything about this specific and weird problem.

Answer:Oh the irony - Google Chrome won't load Google Search

The only time I have ever had a problem getting the Chrome browser to load Google.com (both via address bar and bookmark) is when I'm on the Fedora Linux box. I just chalk it up to another one of the bajillion things that doesn't work right in Lamux. You get what you pay for. Were you, too, running Linux when you had this problem?

Hello everyone,
As the title states I attempted to update my graphics card drivers due to a problem I was having when connecting my laptop to my TV. I downloaded and installed the new drivers and my graphics card stopped working.

Now to be totally honest I'd never actually upgraded a graphics cards drivers before and in retrospect should have looked into it more...but anyway... Having done a little more research since it stopped working I think I may have installed the wrong drivers the first time around. Since then I have tried every single possible driver I could find from AMD ATI and Acer all with no luck, they just fail to install correctly.

I've been trying to fix this for about three days solid and now I'm pretty much sick of my life please if someone could help I would be insanely grateful.

Thank you.

Regards Stevan.

Re: Incorrect syntax near 'FASTFIRSTROW'. If this is intended as a part of a table hi

I think this is only a problem on newer servers, 2005+. They changed syntax, (making it more strict,) so old code that used to work broke:
http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Fo.../thread/6af86d8f-f049-444e-9936-d5b820117635/
If you use old subprocedures, at least one of them probably needs changing. Here is a problem like yours, with FASTFIRSTROW not in the code: http://www.sqlmonster.com/Uwe/Forum.aspx/sql-server/50146/query-fails-under-SQL-2005-64bit

Hello, My Verizon Wireless WAN has worked fine on my T500 (2081CT0, Windows Vista Business 64, 4GB RAM) since I received it last September. This morning it stopped working. Said the card wasn't activated. Calls to Verizon and to Lenovo were pretty useless -- each blamed the other, so I set out on my own.-- I uninstalled the driver for the built-in Qualcomm HS-USB card, downloaded the latest driver (transferred via CDROM since I can't connect this laptop to the network where I work), and tried to install it.The HS-USB card is now shown in the Device Manager as "Unknown device" (under "Other devices"), and its Device Status is:"The drivers for this device were not installed. (Code 28) Driver is not intended for this platform. To reinstall the drivers for this device, click Reinstall Driver."Huh? Of course, Reinstall Driver doesn't work, the first problem being that it can't search online because I have no internet connection w/o the card.  This driver was installed from the following link:http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-69999Looks to me like it should work on this machine. What am I doing wrong?-- A little additional background: I've had several crashes recently, including at least two yesterday with blue screens. Easy to believe something's become corrupted, which is why I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the driver.Help!!Many thanks.

Answer:need advice on intended Frankenstein-style "repair"

Quotebut upon my return several days later I found hardened white foam everywhere where it had not been before surrounding the power supply and all over the motherboard around the power supplyThe only thing that could cause this would be leaked electrolyte from capacitors. Generally this stuff smells like rotten fish. * In regards to the foam issue, I have never seen such a failure to this extent where foam "which gives me the visual of expansion foam insulation" is inside a computer. The Capacitors have a small amount of electrolyte and generally it takes time for the oil to turn into a foamy secretion due to internal gas pressure within the capacitors that vent. In power supplies that have blown up on me, its an oil that oozes out of it with a dead fish smell and fibers that look like cigarette filters shreaded inside the computer from the electrolyte soaked wick material that also acts as an insulator between the foil plates inside the capacitors. And these capacitors EXPLODED inside the chinese no name power supply on the 2nd boot of a new build during a Windows installation without warning. Just a hiss and BOOM and then white smoke flowing out the back of the tower like a fog machine and I yanked the power cord out the back to avoid a fire. Oil was leaking out the seams of the power supply housing and dripping to the bottom of the case. From the sounds of it... it is probably time to part with this system and turn the hard drive from this system into an external... I know the title is rather ironic, but i was wondering if anyone had any advice for me. i will explain.I have fallen in love with skiing scince my school ski trip last year, and now want to begin racing, and save 800 for next years trip. well racing gear costs alone about 900, 700 of which is for skis, so, in total, by christmas, i need to earn 1700, which for a 15 year old seems oretty impossible. Currently i have 2 jobs, a paper round, which gives me 10 a week, and 1 day a week on a golf course, giving me another 20, so per week i currently have 30 income. Unfortunately, this will only earn me 750 by christmas, the time when i will require the full sum of 1700. right, well now the sympathy part is over, i can ask for advice. Being a self confessed computer geek, and a who dares wins kind, im trying my absolute hardest to find some way of earning this money. i thought it might me a good idea to try to find a part time job in the computer world. now what i ideally want to do is to go to an old persons house, spend an hour or so teaching them/fixing their pc, and earn like 15 an hour. now im not suggesting that i only want to deal with old people, im just trying to explain the kind of thing i would love to be able to do, and make money at the same time during the summer. I can quite easily advertise through word of mouth, putting leaflets in my papers, and giving buisness cards to local shops, but i was wondering if i would need insurance or anything else a... It seems to have so many problems I can't even do the normal steps in the READ ME file.

It seems to have "hijacked" the NIC Card, Modem, USB Drives and everything. There are so many errors that pop up on reboot its insane. I was able to find a dormant AOL 4.0 and loaded it and was able to open and send emails. I email HJT to myself and opened it on an old AOL account ran it and emailed back to myself and I will attached it if someone can help.

Am I in the right place?

Yo guys
I'm a new member to this website, so here goes!
i recently found a set of two cd roms, one called ''''encyclopedia of History'''' and one called ''''History of the world 2.0''''. Both of these disks were manufactured by DK.
I seem to be having a problem installing these disks, as when I install on the ''''95/98/Me'''' option, nothing loads, and when I install the disks on the ''''XP'''' option a message box appears saying ''''No sound card driver installed, please attach sound driver''''.
My computer is currently running Windows 7, and I wondered if there was any possible way i could run these disks without using a windows XP computer?
I have also tried to contact Windows/Microsoft about this problem, however doing so is very costly.
I have also tried to contact DK, but I could find no details.
Do you know if computers nowadays have a ''''sound card driver'''' installed, as i understand that older computers, (such as ones that run windows XP) need an expansion sound card driver to run some software.

Ive sent this message to samsung already but no reply :'(

Ok so in easy form:

-How do i download one?
