First BSOD... Dunno what happened

Question: First BSOD... Dunno what happened

I was playing Wolfenstein - Enemy Territory, whilst talking to a friend over Skype, and I suddenly get this blue screen error... It's the first thing that's gone wrong with my newly built PC, and I dunno why. My PC restarted before I could jot down the specific error, but it said something like "Driver_not_less_or_equal". It recommended I remove newly added hardware, what is up :'(

Preferred Solution: First BSOD... Dunno what happened

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Greetings people of the Sevenforums community.

My computer is pretty old. It's been here since like 2006(7).
The only thing that has been replaced so far is the GFX Card because it died and nothing more..

But for a very long time now, like 12-8-2013 it has been excessively BSOD'ing. With different error types and I'm really clueless about what to do..

I got a nice list of minidumps zipped into a folder.
(Note: I didn't use the sevenforums tool on the PC, because it crashes before I even get to windows)

I'll attach the .zip.. hope anyone can be of help.

With a friendly greet,
Rimikumo

Answer:PC gets different BSOD's.. Dunno how to fix

Rimikumo, upload your MSINFO32.nfo file.
Click on the start button
Type "msinfo32" (without quotes) in the search bar of the start menu, click the resulting link. It will open the System Information window.
File>Save. In the "File Name" filed, put "MSINFO32" (without Quote), give the save location to desktop, and click the "save" button.
Give the time for processing, it will save a .nfo file on your desktop.
Zip it, and upload it following the instruction.
Also, Test your RAM modules for possible errors.
How to Test and Diagnose RAM Issues with Memtest86+
Run memtest for at least 8 passes, preferably overnight.

If it start showing errors/red lines, stop testing. A single error is enough to determine that something is going bad there.

Stress test the CPU.

Hey guys, last night i fell asleep to a show on synchtube, and woke up to a black screen with the words, Reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media in selected boot device. I had no idea what to do, so i just hit the power button and turned it back on, everything seemed fine for about an hour, until everything i was doing froze, i then got a BSOD, and it reverted back to the black screen. It just repeats this process now, i NEED help, i am not experienced in this at all.

MotherBoard- Gateway FX6860 ? Power Supply - brand & wattage ? System Manufacturer - Gateway ? Exact model number - FX6860

Thank you in advance for anyone willing to help!

Answer:BSOD help, has never happened to me.

What kind of hard drive do you have in the system? Your .nfo file was corrupted, so I am missing valuable information that may help with the analysis. Is this by chance a Crucial M4 SSD drive? I see you have a 7.9 disk rating, which would indicate an SSD.

Does this happen every hour on the hour? If so, it may be that the firmware is out of date, a known problem with the Crucial M4.

Quote:

M4 customers,

We are aware of an issue that is currently affecting a small number of users whereby their m4 causes their system to require a restart. This issue occurs after approximately 5,000 hours of actual “on time” use. Following the initial reboot, the system then requires subsequent restarts after each additional hour of use. However, the data on the SSD is unaffected and will not be lost due to this condition.

Through our investigation, we have determined the root cause of the problem and will be releasing a firmware update that rectifies the situation. We are currently running through our validation and compatibility process. Once this process is complete, the firmware will be made available to our customers. Although we understand the desire of some people to start using unreleased firmware now, we want to ensure that our solution works across multiple chipsets, systems, and operating systems before publishing the release code. We are currently targeting the week of January 16th, 2012 to publicly release the new firmware update.

Hi Guys,

I was waking my computer up yesterday and when I did that I got the BSOD. I was unable to read the entire message as my computer rebooted right away but it seemed to mention something about Audio.

I tested my speakers and everything seems to be fine. I also ran a malware removal program and nothing came up I ran a full system scan using Norton 360 premium and no viruses were found.

I am using a DELL PC running windows 7 windows is completely up to date as well.

If there is a way for me to retrieve the exact message that would be great to know and any other advice would be appreciated.

I am stumped as to why this happened and if you need anymore information from me I would be happy to provide it.

Thank you for any help you can provide.

Answer:BSOD happened to me

Hi

If the BSOD only happened one time, you can safely ignore it. An occasional crash can be happened to any machine. Please test the system by putting it in to standby and observe whether the BSOD returns. If yes, we can check for possible reasons.

Btw, download and install the latest version of audio driver from Dell support site as a precaution

I was looking at vine videos in facebook.  My screen suddenly turned black and I got the following Blue screen error "0x0000003B"  with a atikmdag.sys file with it.  I'm running Windows 7.  My drivers should be up to date since I use the program that comes with it to update.  Base on what I looked up, the atikmdag is a video card file.  My video card is about 1 week old.  Was running fine, Only went to 72 degrees once.  It usually stays below 70.

Edit:  As for what video card I have, its a Radeon R9 270.  Just a few minutes ago, my screen flickered and said "the display driver stopped responding but recovered" or something like that.

Edit 2:  It crashed again, this time error 0xA0000001.  I was playing Final fantasy XIV this time.  I think I may have found the issue.  The ASUS GPU Tweak was turned on to max. . . .I believe I am overclocking and my computer can't handle it.  (not sure why, temperature doesn't go up high.  Is that not the only causes for crashes?)

Answer:BSOD - can someone tell me what happened?

Hello CalusBlade,

Have you tried running something like WhoCrashed This may help with your issue and it can also tell you what may be causing the BSOD you been getting so long as you keep log files or have a crash dump.

About maybe almost an hour ago now?... I was playing an MMORPG that I play all the time without problems, but I had to leave for about ten minutes, and I came back to the blue screen of death.

At the bottom of the screen, it said that the physical memory dump had been completed, so I restarted my computer as the instructions stated because this was the first time it has ever happened. So far, everything is normal and seems to be running fine. Should I be concerned?

Answer:BSOD... nothing happened?...

Do you have a screen saver or power saving mode set to kick after 10 minutes or less of no user activity? If so, it may be conflicting with your game.

Yesterday, I was burning a CD and surfing at the same time. All of a sudden the BSOD, then system rebooted. I have no idea why the system crashed.

I caught something on the screen about a dump and UNPnP (which I had disabled earlier) and then the system rebooted. Attached is the minidump file.

I restored the UNPnP after the crash.

Can someone tell me what happened so I can avoid this.

Do three things.

► First of all, uninstall AVG. It is either the main source of the issue or adding up to it.

You enter into USB Selective Suspense, if it is enabled, Disable it.
See this article too: Binary files in some USB drivers are not updated after you install Windows 7 SP1 or Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1. Follow the Resolution there.
Remove anything attached with the USB ports other that the keyboard/mouse.

If, and only if doing this steps failed to solve the issue, it is better to enable Driver Verifier to monitor the drivers.

Driver Verifier - Enable and Disable

Run Driver Verifier for 24 hours or the occurrence of the next crash, whichever is earlier.

Let us know the results, with the subsequent crash dumps, if any.

Good day all;
I got this after running for weeks without incident.
The only system change was 48 hours ago which was a bug fix to "Spybot Search & Destroy". All recommended fixes seemed to work well with that.
Any way, I got this little surprise at bootup today and am hoping to get your input.
PS: I (like many others) have stopped allowing Nvidia driver updates since December.
they DO seem to cause more than a few problems.
Thanks,
Steve

Hi,
I feel like I was just mugged--my system was running perfectly, Eset anti-virus and superanti-spyware said it was clean. Then I tried to run Malware Antimalwarebytes and got the famed 732 update failure error. So I uninstalled it, used the cleaner to get rid of debris, restarted and downloaded it again from cnet. It up-dated fine and everything seemed to be okay. Even ran a scan--I don't even know if this is related to the problem. (Let me say that my son's computer had the same error and I did the same thing with his MAMB just before I did mine, and his compute is still fine.)
Then I did windows update. Everything seemed fine. (XP SP3)
This morning I tried to get onto the Internet (where I work) and I couldn't connect. Tried to run an Eset Smart Security virus scan--scan failed. Tried to run MAMbytes scan--software wouldn't even come up. Superantispyware said everything was clean. So I restarted in safe mode and ran Eset from there twice. Restarted and my computer informed me that it had recovered from a serious BSOD error. Eset scans now work - everything is clean. The internet works again. But I have no idea what happened or if it will happen again. The eset log shows things like "bad archive" and AOL stuff but nothing actively evil. I will attach it if it will help. There are trojans in quarantine, but none are that recent. (I wasn't exactly sure how to permanently delete them.) The error signature on the Microsoft report said:

Well okay then.First, I'm always curious when people are overboard on malware scans. Is this OCD, do you engage in dangerous computer behavior (such as P2P filesharing), or are you new and don't know that multiple AV software is a really bad thing ?Because you said there's a financial connection to the computer, I have to give you the lecture about P2P filesharing and other risky behaviors as being a virtual guarantee of getting infected, it's not a question of if, it's a question of when, and there is no anti-virus software that can save you from yourself. Not even 2 or 3 or even 4 anti-malware softwares is going to keep a determined User from infecting themselves, however the system will run S~L~O~W and there will be other problems such as system file conflicts.Second, Registry Cleaners are a hoax and a myth, and will do absolutely no good for you but could very easily be the cause of your problems. All that Reg Cleaner has to do is accidentally delete one critical Registry Entry that some 3rd Party software manufacturer that didn't follow Microsoft's rules and so it got deleted by a Registry Cleaner that assumes that anything not following the rules is bad and deletable, and now a critical piece of information is missing from a software that has complete control over every single file on your computer. A piece of it's brain is missing, and it's "doing things" to your computer.Did that make sense ? (I was in high-caffeine fast-forward right there.)So, for a c... Read more

Run Disk Check on your hard disk for file system errors and bad sectors on it

There's only one memory dump in the uploaded files. If you're using some sort of cleanup utility, please stop until we've isolated the cause of your problem(s).

SP1 isn't installed, please do the following:

Installing Windows 7 Service Pack 1
1. Visit the PC manufacturer's website and update ALL drivers. DO NOT use Windows Update or the "Update drivers" function of Device Manager.
2. Check Device Manager for any unknown/disabled devices - if there are unknown/disabled devices, fix them with the latest drivers from the device manufacturer's website (not the PC Manufacturer)
3. Visit Windows Update and get all updates (may take repeated visits)
4. Visit Windows Update and get Service Pack 1 (usually under Important Updates). Read these notes for installing SP1: Steps to follow before you install Windows 7 SP1 and Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 from the Microsoft Download Center
NOTE: For Vista, read these notes:

After some confusion about this section last time, I'm pretty sure that blue screen that came up and said AHHHHH YOU DIED!!!!!! (well it didn't say that, I translated), was a BSOD.

My computer crashes regularly, and since I am about to build a new one, I upped the voltages on my 4 cores a little (trying to stop the non bsod crashes). It seems to have worked, been a few day, then this BSOD while I was playing WOT and listening to SPOTIFY (that's usually what I'm doing when my computer crashes because that is what I mostly do lol).

Given that it's been a couple or three days of continuous use since I upped the voltages (still in the green zone, before they were the lowest voltage in the green that was *stable*) it seems like that wouldn't be the cause, but it IS the only thing recently that has been changed. I also suspect some audio problems as well but don't know where that factors in. Anyway, here is the file;

Good day all;
I got this after running for weeks without incident.
Thanks,
Steve

Hey, what's up? I'm really new to these forums, but I have pulled a few useful tips from here in the past. I had a movie playing in VLC media player when I laid down to take a nap. When I woke up, I noticed that my computer had restarted - as it was sitting at the Windows login screen. I tried to figure out what exactly happened, but it seems as though the issue is a bit over my head at this point. If someone could help me interpret these results, figure out what happened, then help figure out how to fix it - that would be awesome. I followed the instructions and created the rar file of the output from the SF Diagnostic Tool, and attached it to this. Can anyone help me out? Thank you in advance!! I just want my computer to be stable....

I've had a look at your files. Please do the following:

1. Download and save this tool to your desktop:
http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=52012

2. Run the tool, and then click Copy - ignore any errors if they appear

3. Use CTRL+V to paste the unedited results of the tool here in your next reply

So I've now been getting an increased number of BSoDs whenever I run Matlab. The version I run is R2012b. For many months, Matlab seemed to work without ever BSoDing, but it just suddenly started to frequently produce BSoDs for some reason. One BSoD happened in the middle of coding, and another BSoD happened right when I shut down the program. I've attached three BSoD files here.

I do use Matlab to analyze very large (0.5 GB size) datasets, although I'm careful to make sure that they don't take up too much virtual memory. I have installed quite a few toolboxes on there, though many of them are vital for what I need to do.

My computer hasn't produced any BSoDs for any other application.

I've attached the dump logs of three of them . I've updated all my drivers to the latest version, and the BSoDs still happen. Hard drive and RAM are totally fine. I've also attached what BlueScreenView displays below (just look at the December 2013 ones - the other ones are unrelated).

Hi InquilineKea.

It is a security issue. Whenever you rum Matlab, Asus Data Security Manager fails; with different bugchecks like stop 0x19 and 0x3B.

Recommendations:
Crashes are being caused by SaiK0386.sys. See below for my comments on the device.

I recommend you update/replace/remove the following drivers:

Driver verified and related to your video driver. I would re-install the newest available using this method.

When upgrading your graphic driver you MUST remove all traces of the current driver.

In order to do that we recommend using
Phyxion.net - Driver Sweeper

When it is removed then download and install the fresh copy.

First off, my hard drive is not the newest, so im thinking that could be a problem, im going to upgrade to a cavier black 2TB so, if thats whats causing it, ill update ASAP

i havent gotten a BSOD in a couple months so im not sure why it just started outta the "blue" no pun intended.

thanks in advance for any help

edit: Also noticed my Nvidia Geforce GT240 has been lagging up on games lately, so im also wondering if that could be it, my drivers are updated all around my system.

Answer:Random BSOD's that happened today

The dmp(s) point to ntkrpamp.exe or ntoskrnl.exe as the probable cause. We know this is not the case, as these are core OS files, and will definitely not cause a BSOD. They are just the default files the debuggers blame when they can't see a better cause. We need to run driver verifier to pinpoint the faulting driver...

- Go to Start and type in "verifier" (without the quotes) and press Enter
- Select "Create custom settings (for code developers)" and click "Next"
- Select "Select individual settings from a full list" and click "Next"
- Select everything EXCEPT FOR "Low Resource Simulation" and click "Next"
- Select "Select driver names from a list" and click "Next"
Then select all drivers NOT provided by Microsoft and click "Next"
- Select "Finish" on the next page.

Reboot the system and wait for it to crash to the Blue Screen. Continue to use your system normally, and if you know what causes the crash, do that repeatedly. The objective here is to get the system to crash because Driver Verifier is stressing the drivers out.

Grettings!
Some days ago, I was playing Dota 2 with no problems, as always I've played! Exactly, the Saturday 10th it began the problem... Eecuted Dota 2, all fine, finding a game, fine, loading map and assets, fine, pick a hero, fine, walked three or four steps and BSoD... Needless to say, tried to reconnect, BSoD at walking again... Checked drivers, only the ethernet one was "outdated", then I updated it, launched Win Updates, updated Win7 and tried to play again, BSoD... Then I came here to check some advices of what other people tried, downloaded memtest, ran it during the night, 9 passes, no error. Checked disk with different tools (win tool, tuneup tool) and there was no errors... Well I got tired then I formatted laptop.
Downloaded the game, updated drivers and when I tried to play, BSoD at loading the maps and assets...

Got even more tired of the issue, opened laptop, found a large bunch of dust at my laptop cooler, cleaned it, ensambled everything again, opened Dota 2, BSoD this time went further, I could walk to middle lane b4 the BSoD.

Checked Memory again in the other slot, all fine, checked disk, all fine, checked drivers with one friend lap (same as mine, he runs Dota 2 perfectly), all updated... Forgot to say that I had two BSoD on Firefox, two different errors..

So I came here to a more accurate point of view.
Well, I'll let you the files here:

Hello there,

In the past BSOD at my HP box seemed to occur after applying Windows 7 updates. After rolling back to the previous restore point it seems to be ok.

However BSOD happened twice recently (2014.07.04 and 2014.07.08) without applying any Windows updates. There are updates to Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and AVG 2014.

I've uploaded the files collected by DM Log Collector for your analysis.

Would really appreciate if you could help to identify the cause of the BSOD.

Many Thanks.

I'm sorry for the weird title but I was showing a friend something on my laptop and put it down on the table. Maybe an hour or two later I noticed the computer was on the table and turned off. During this period me and some friends got into something and I lost track of time. When I turned my computer back on I noticed it was giving me the "windows did not shut down properly screen." I assumed my computers battery ran out and I was just negligence on my part (which is rare, I treat my computer with respect for the most part). When I hit, "start windows normally" I got a blue screen code or what I thought was a blue screen code, and my power bar was full, so it did not run out of battery. Events of the night are hazy, and I feel like a jerk, my mates told me it was nothing to worry about because the BSOD in this case was a minor one. I know this is not the proper format, but could anyone tell me if this is anything to worry about?

Several of these point to your video driver. A re-install using these should help eliminate the problem.

When upgrading your graphic driver you MUST remove all traces of the current driver. In order to do that we recommend using Guru3D - Driver Sweeper

When it is removed then download and install the fresh copy.

Hello ICW.

A very least information is available from what you supplied. Try to execute the SF Diag Tool once again, if it provides some more info there.

And, upload a snapshot Using Speccy.
Download and install Speccy.
File> Save snapshot.
Save it on desktop.
Zip it and upload it following following Screenshots and Files - Upload and Post in Seven Forums .
upload your MSINFO32.nfo file.
Upload the list of all the third party drivers Using NirSoft DriverView :
Download and execute Driverview
View > Hide Microsoft Drivers
Edit > Select all
File > Save Selected Items
In the Save dialog, Set the path to desktop, Put "Driverview" in the name field, and save.
Zip the .txt file and upload it.

Hi,
I built my own desktop 4 monthes ago with windows 7. The BSOD started to happen after I installed a new Microsoft LifeCAM. But not sure this is a real casue for this issue. Recently BSOD happened more often than before. As today it happened 5 times in one hour. I ran the memory test (Memtest86+) and did not get any errors after 8 passes. Also I unplugged all the USB ports from the PC. But BSOD seems never give up. Here is my PC hardware configuration list. Please let me know if you need anything more from me. I am pretty frustrated with issue right now since I never have this kind of experience before.
thanks in advance.

These are related to memory management caused by your Symantec. I would remove and replace it with Microsoft Security Essentials

*Boot from the CD, and leave it running for at least 5 or 6 passes.

Well it all started while ago. It seemes that one of the reasons might be ntoskrnl.exe
I just reinstalled windows, and when I was watching a youtube video, my computer just crashed - BSOD. Maybe I need to reinstall a new soundcard driver, but I am not sure what is my soundcard.
It also seems my keyboard is messed up after reinstall.

A lot of the time, well before the reinstall it said something about BAD_POOL_HEADER and win32skys

Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit

System specs
Raedon HD 6670 1GB
AMD Athlon II x4 640
Mainboard G41M-P28
PSU seems to be ATX 12V v2,2 EPS 12V
480 Watt
Motherboard seems to be A780LM-M

I am pretty noob at all of this... So my apologizes and I hope you are patient.

Also here is a screenshot

Answer:Random BSOD-s. Just happened again after reinstalling windows.

Mainboard is another name for the Motherboard so with a AMD CPU this is not your mainboard>>Mainboard G41M-P28<< As that is a Intel socket 775 G41 chipset board.

You have a ECS A780LM-M > ECS Web Site

BSOD is blamed on > NTFS_FILE_SYSTEM (24)

Make sure you have the latest chipset drivers form the link to ECS above.

Test the hard drive with the drive manufacturers diagnostic utility.

Hi!

I have had 2 blue screens in about ~one month time. I'm not sure why it is occurring, my computer runs perfect still -> Boots up and does everything I usually do. But just now it blue screened and I did nothing out of the ordinary. I included the crash files if it helps.

Thank you in advance

Answer:BSOD occurring randomly. Happened twice in one month.

Stop 0x3B BSODs are most unavoidable with systems not having Service pack 1.

Install Service pack 1 and all other windows updates. Otherwise the system will remain vulnerable to threats including BSODs.

The first time it happened was the 2nd of September, from there it has BSOD'd 3 more times and I have no idea why. I haven't changed, installed or uninstalled anything at all.

The BSOD's happen randomly too, my PC will be running perfectly fine then a BSOD just happens, there's no other symptoms or anything that happens prior to the BSODS.

I have attached my minidumps and SF diagnostic tool results.

Thanks for any help!

Answer:BSOD's starting randomly from 2nd Sep. Have happened 4 times since.

PC now just froze up while I was browsing on chrome, I have no idea if it's just coincidence or if the issues are linked!

Blue screens no matter what is going on or when nothing is going on... it's not constant... sometimes hours between. I've updated the OS and applications as much as I can via WU, applications and the like. Upgraded to Win8.1 hoping that would help, but it hasn't.

Ideas?

Thanks

Edit: I posted it quick so I could make sure it got up instead of crashing again.

Crashes have been going on for several months... can use the PC for hours at a time. Sometimes, I sit down and after the system has at some point in the day, booted up after a crash... no one has signed in or run anything... hit a key... only to BS.

Answer:Random BSOD's one happened the first time I tried to post

In general, if you upgrade an OS and it still has problems - then hardware is the most likely cause.
BUT, there are a lot of other things to consider if you've been using the system for any length of time (as the installed stuff can also easily cause this).

Memory dumps seem to point at RAM. Try these free diagnostics: Hardware Diagnostics
Start with MemTest86+ and Prime95 - then run the others just to be sure.
It may be difficult to run MemTest86+ If so, post back for help with turning off Secure Boot and enabling the legacy boot stuff.

Hi all!

I've just bought a new PC.
I assembled it piece by piece (i'm not a newbie in this) since i installed
win7 Pro x64 OEM (i bought the OEM DVD)
the PC ever had problems.

to install windows7 i taken about 5 tries. during installation win7 setup said me it was unable to complete the installation, so i re-formatted and reinstalled until it completed the operation.

now he gave me random BSOD (IRQL_... and others) and i'm unable to work on my PC as when he start to crash, then it can continue to re-launch the BSOD in minutes... sometime happens that he bsod-reboot also 15-20 times consecutively...

I used HQ components (Intel I7 + Asus P7P55D Mobo + Corsair DDR3 RAM, Asus nVIdia GTS450 + TpLink Wifi adapter, 4 WesternDigital HD)

Actual configuration is that the HD are in Raid1 in couples. OS are on a couple of Raid1 HD (1TB + 1TB) - other couple in raid1 serves as data store.

I noticed that many time the volumes go degraded or Initializing after BSODs... and in this cases, to make the PC load at a decent speed i had to disconnect one of the OS HD eitherway Raid Re-initializing take all the HD performance and Win7 load in more than 8 minutes.

i already run MemTest86+ for 6 hours. No errors found.

if i start windows in Safe Mode he seems to not crash, but i can't assure this as some time PC worked for over 8 hours in normal mode... then started to crash... (but the most of the times, in standard mode, PC crashes after some minute from the boot)

i also had problem i... Read more

My little bro was playing games, watching youtube, etc when BSOD appeared, the computer i guess first froze up, made loud noises then went to BSOD. It's an old all-in-one pc, but works fine for everyday use for hw, watching vids, etc. I would like to keep it BSOD free lol. If you see that i need to update anything, let me know. I think the last time i had BSOD is when my wifi adapter driver was out of date and needed a new driver update, and the problem went away, got a new BSOD yesterday. Wish I could give more information as to what happened, but I wasnt at the pc at the time it BSODed.

I've recently bought a new PC where I put it together with a friend (with more hardware-knowhow than myself) - on my first night of gaming with it I encountered the first BSOD (whilst playing CS:GO), but it didn't reoccur. One week later, whilst playing DotA2, it happened again. When I restarted my PC, it happened again. This continued a few times before I gave up trying to get into windows. I opened the BIOS, and saw that my motherboard and CPU were both below 35 degrees, and I continued to boot it in safe mode, where it happened again.
The day after I called my more tech-savvy friend, who wanted to know what the error message was, and I booted my PC (assuming it would BSOD again) - but it didn't. During the week I also played some video games, ranging from SC2, CS:GO, DotA2 and Wolfenstein: The New Order.

What am I to do?

I built this computer myself two and a bit years ago, the only things I've changed since then are the RAM (November 2011) and the video card (October 2012). I've never seen it BSOD before until now.

One persistent problem I've been finding with my computer is that, only recently, something is causing it to halt completely. It locks to the point that it doesn't respond to first-level interrupts (if I press the Num Lock key on my keyboard the light doesn't change), my speakers just buzz, and it sits there until I force it to turn off. When I turn it back on, it prompts me to start it in safe mode, but that's it. It just says unexpected shutdown in the logs. I'm sure it's hardware, but I can't tell what. I first thought it was hard drives being faulty and that high read/write activity was causing it, but I was watching system usage when it happened once and it was only at 4%. I asked some friends of mine at my old office (I worked in IT) and they weren't sure either. They recommended I start by replacing various c... Read more

I've never had a BSOD before but recently I had two and the only thing that changed recently was that I decided to plug an hdmi between my TV and laptop to play a game. I haven't played any triple AAA games recently and nothing happens right after I play any indie games. I'm inclined to say that it was the cable because my brother got a new computer and he's been getting BSOD's. One of the first things he did was connect his computer to the TV. Maybe there's no connection.

The screen flashed blue and there was a lot of text. My computer restarted too quickly for me to read anything and when it booted up, it said Windows recovered from an unexpected shutdown. I'm scanning using MSE at the moment but I doubt that I will find anything.

Come to think of it, I updated something related to NVIDA recently and I may have stopped the update because I thought it was frozen. I'm not sure if it failed. Checking for new updates doesn't yield anything.

Sorry if this isn't enough information.

Answer:[SOLVED] BSOD happened 4 times in the past hour

Hi,

All of the attached DMP files are of the DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL (d1) bug check.

This indicates that a kernel-mode driver attempted to access pageable memory at a process IRQL that was too high.

A driver tried to access an address that is pageable (or that is completely invalid) while the IRQL was too high. This bug check is usually caused by drivers that have used improper addresses.

If we take a look at the call stack:

Code:

Hi all,I was still using windows 7.A few days, when I turned on the PC, a windows black screen appeared withtwo options for me to choose from:System repairor Start as normal.I picked the System repair option, and waited for a few minutes but what I could seewas still a black  screen.I restarted the PC and pressed F2 and chose the Safe Mode option, but then Blue screen of death just happened. The computer restarted and loaded the black screen again.I had done a windows backup two months ago and saved a windows 7 backup file in Partition D, I borrowed a True Image 11 rescue disc from my friend and tried to locate the backup file so as to restore windows 7 to two months ago, but when I tried to locate the windows 7 backup file using the True Image 11 rescue disc, a message "can not recognize any hard drive" popped up.I think my computer's hard disk is dead, but I am not really sure if I guess it right. Please help if you could.Thank you.Kitty

So a friend of mine has a problem with his PC, that gets BSOD'd every once in a while for the same reason every time. As far as I can tell that's the error he gets (0x00000101) and the file that BlueScreenView tells the problem comes from is ntoskrnl.exe. (as it can be seen here Screenshot by Lightshot)
I've attached the dump file.
some info that may help you get to the problem is that whenever he unplugs his headphones while he's in skype call, his PC freezes after a few seconds. (no BSOD, but he has to restart)

Thanks for any help in advance

Answer:Random BSOD (happened last time a month ago). error 0x00000101

Hello Kickurass,

How frequently are these BBODs occurring?

Please try downloading all the latest drivers from your manufacture website and run Windows Update.

Run a scan with Malwarebytes, to make sure your computer isn't infected https://www.malwarebytes.org/

Well I ordered some RAM off ebay. PC3200 512 X 2. One stick is fine, but with the other one I get this. This is the second one the guy sent me and I think he sent the exact same one back thinking I wouldn't notice. I tried a different slot on the board too - same thing. I tried having only one stick in there and it was fine, but when I swapped sticks into the same slot - boom. Grrr...

Dell Dimension C521 with XP Home loaded. Some time ago I installed a Linksys 2.4 GHz Wireless G PCI adapter with speed booster onto the motherboard, set it up properly and it worked fine.
Now I wish to connect a wired modem (Clearwire) for internet access, but XP is not recognizing the modem at all, only the wireless adapter
I have checked the ethernet connection on the computer, it's OK
No matter how many times I run the XP connection wizard, the modem is just not found
Did I somehow erase the program or driver that would recognize any modem ?
How do I get it back?
Thanks in advance !

Answer:dunno what I did, please help!

You should go to the homepage for the modem, and download the latest drivers. It sounds like you do not have the drivers installed.

Question: dunno what to do

I'm at a crossroads here. On one hand I really want to have my computer built VERY soon as I only have 2 more parts to order, and on the other han dI really want WIn Vista since it will be the next step in innovation and be 64 bit, and be required by most games coming out in Jan and after (I think)

problem is that Vista doesn't some out till end of Jan, and I want this comp done by end of Dec. I was thinking about getting Win XP media center to maybe hold me over but I don't know. In a month I would just be shelling out another $200 for Vista so I would have wasted so much money. What should I do!!

Answer:dunno what to do

just get xp and use it, and don't get vista for a couple of years. i have yet to hear of any games that say they will be vista only. the only thing vista has over xp gaming wise id dx10, and the 1st vid card t support it just came out and is over 600usd. so unless you have the nvidia 8800, you won't even be seeing dx10 in use, even if you get a game that uses it (i don't believe any are out yet). after using vista rc1 for a while, i just went back to xp. for me vista didn't give enouph tweeking power over my system to get the most speed for my gaming. the os just simply doesn't allow for 100% user control over the os like xp is. vista is just too concerned about protecting you and its self.

Question: wat? i dunno

Im really bad at this kind of stuff so hopefully someone can help.
All i know so far is that when i try to boot windows, it goes to the safe mode / last known good config screen. tried to load the last known good config and it didnt help. i was told that after a windows update was installed and computer was rebooted, it just wouldnt load windows. sorry for the lack of info, but i got nothin... im tempted to just reinstall windows.

anyone?

Answer:wat? i dunno

Hi Steve

Guessing it wont go into Safe Mode either and recycles back to same screen?

Could try a repair of windows and boot to OS CD.

Or as you say just bite bullet and go for clean install, but does the HD have data thats needed to be recovered first? if so I did a weird trick a while back, just one of those weird moments when a spark of genius jumps out and as I have Acronis True Image 2009 installed, and a rescuse CD created it booted to that and managed to be able to just Image the My Documents folders and other folders to portable HD, then formatted PC and installed Windows XP again, installed the 15day trial of Acronis 2009 (available from Majorgeeks) on that PC, plugged in the portable HD and managed to drill down into the Image and right click copy and pasted the folders to the desktop and then left the user to move them into the correct folders.

Question: i dunno

This seems pretty easy but, this is what it does during installation.Should the spaces be removed along with the semi-colon or is this a normal config.Just seems a little odd to me..
C:\Perl\bin\perl.exe;C:\WINDOWS;C:\WINDOWS\COMMAND\;C:\Python25;C:\progra~1\common~1\gtk\2.0\bin; ;C:\RUBY\BIN

Answer:i dunno

What you have is a Windows rendition of $PATH which delineates the various directories that are searched to find a command to be executed.

Spaces are ok for file names and directory names on Windows systems. So, I would say leave them as is.

To demonstrate, you can put an executable with a unique name, e.g. hello, in any one of the directories - i.e. separated by the ';' character in $PATH, then position your command window to your $HOME directory, and give the command:
$ hello
where hello is the executable name of the hello world program that just prints out the words: Hello, world!

I would then move the hello executable back to your home directory.

Unless your installation triggered an error message regarding $PATH - it is nothing to worry about.

Answer:I Dunno's HJT logs

Hi and welcome to TSF! You are not in very bad shape there.

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order it is mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes. You should not have any open browsers when you are following the procedures below.

Go to My Computer->Tools/View->Folder Options->View tab and make sure that 'Show hidden files and folders' (or 'Show all files') is enabled. Also make sure that Display the contents of System Folders' is checked. Windows XP's search feature is a little different. I have Windows XP Pro. upgraded from Windows Home. Its Medion MD40100 Notebook, Pentium 4. I reformated the Harddisk/copied everything on external Harddrive and upgraded to Windows XP Professional. Know my USB ports don't work, or do they?

I have a mouse and seperate keyboard attached through USB (i have 4 ports on the back of the laptop) and IF AND ONLY IF..they are connected on a reboot they work. If i unplug them after the setup is complete, they will not work again unless I shut off/ plug them in/ reboot. Then poof they work again. None of these ports seem to work after the start up.

My system will not boot with the external harddrive plugged in, and so thus will certainly not work after the start up. It doesn't turn on and doesn't appear in Device Manager or anywhere on the computer system. Windows XP does not even report: new hardware attached. Nothing.

any help or suggestions would be greatly apppreciated.

xx

Answer:i dunno what to do anymore!

I should also note: If I need to buy something, i will, I just really need access to the external Harddrive as it has all my backup information. Thanks again.

I know this is barely any info but what do i do now?

Answer:Infected And Dunno What To Do

Also, i forgot to mention that i went into msconfig and looked under the startup tab. I found a few suspicious files and stopped them from starting. In case you want to know what they are:
utorrent.exe
funk.exe
the third is a blank name with no command, with a location of "SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Current Version\Run"

well i stopped these but no luck, still no fix.

My computer's been acting like bleep ever since I bought it. It's always had popups from Drivecleaner and I can't find forums on removing what I've got. Answer:Dunno How To Describe It

Hi and welcome to Bleeping Computer! My name is Sam and I will be helping you. Before we can get started on fixing your problem you must change the location of Hijackthis. It should not run from a temp directory. Download and run the HijackThis autoinstall program Please choose the default location of C:\Program Files as the destination.Run the program only from that location from now on. It is essential that you follow these steps or certain important features of the program will not function correctly.Once you have Hijackthis running from this folder, please reboot and post a new hijackthis log as a reply in this thread.

Hi chaps having a nightmare with pc at moment and looking for some ideas please.

To cut a long story short I was playin EQ2 and my pc went kaputt.

At first it would not boot up and kept changing the cpu size from 1500 to 2800.

Then I unplugged and replugged everything and 9/10 it would not boot up at all as in nothing would come up on monitor.

Eventually i had to call an engineer out who charged 20 quid for first hour 45 for 2nd fortunately he wasnt there for more than an hour.

He tested everything and was dumb founded. Sometimes it would boot up then freeze most of the time it would just reboot and then sometimes not even boot at all(using my pc as we speak).

He ultimately thought it was my memory so i slipped him 20 quid and went and bought some new memory. Stupidly guy behind the counter has given me pc 3200 ddr400 i swapped the memory round and it kept booting but restarting as i click on icon to log in(I meant to get pc 2700 ddr333).

My chip is amd athlon 2800
Win Xp Pro
400 W
ATI radeon 9800 xt pro
80 gb hd
On board ac97 sound cmedia

I have been reading on net that it might be my psu but i thought 400w should be enuf. I guess i could buy a larger model 550w maybe.

Or maybe its my mother board as sometimes it lets me boot up like it is now but it will probably reboot half way thru this message.

Also another note on booting up sometimes it read my memory as only having 140mb in or some other insane figure and freezes when it has a stick of 512mb in.

Answer:Pc Reboot/Or not at all dunno what to do plz elp:(

Check your fans. That 52 is kinda warm for the MB.(could be the sensors are crossed and the 52 is really the CPU) Make sure the fan is running in the power supply. That fan is the exhaust fan for the case. If it's not running, the power supply could be overheating and causing problems. A good cleaning with compressed air wouldn't hurt anything.

Question: Dunno. IP related?

My friend accesses his bank account from home using Firefox with no trouble. He comes to the shop and Chase makes him jump through hoops (call Chase, get security code) which takes a lot of time. We use google Chrome here. So I said I will download Firefox so you can get around that problem. My question is this: if he has Firefox at home and uses Firefox at the shop, wouldn't that change the IP, thus triggering the banks security settings? Does that mean he has to use the same computer at the same location all the time? Thanks

Answer:Dunno. IP related?

Not necessarily, some folks are assigned 'Dynamic' IP addresses by their IS Providers (A different IP address each time they connect, or reboot their router), which would mean the bank security would be on permanent alarm status.

Most banks just use login passwords - Mine has 2, an 8-digit number and a 5-digit number, entered on 2 separate pages. Also, my 'Mozilla Seamonkey' browser offers to remember any login details, I don't know whether Firefox has that facility or not.

The only thing to remember is that the shop-PC is set to NOT remember any login details (usually a tick-box on the login page) - If the home PC is accessed by your friend alone (or folks he trusts), then the 'Remember me' tick-box can be ticked (if available).

Hi there!
A couple of days ago, in trying to download a torrent I think I caught a malware. I thought BitDefender 2010, my AntiVirus, had put it in quarantine but for the past two days, everytime I boot into Windows 7, before I do anything, some crash-report window appears (today they were 3!) I ran a BitDefender "deep scan" but after some 2 hrs it came up clean. Clearly there's something wrong because as soon as I boot Win7 the windows keep popping up. See picture attached.
Can anyone suggest some solution to this problem?
Thank you for your time.
P.

Answer:Got a Virus but dunno even its name!

I'm posting the DDS.txt and attaching the Attach.zip files. I also downloaded and ran gmer.exe but for some unknown reason it stops working after sometime, maybe it's the virus' effect (I first turned off BitDefender Antivirus).
I am therefore unable to post the ark.txt file. Hope someone can help me. Thanks.

well, first of all and before everything i'd like to sahy hi to everyone as i am new here .. and really thank you for letting me be part of your community ..

now with my problem, i am running windows XP SP3 now on my pc, normaly when i face any problem with any spyware/malware , viruses or anything .. i know my way to fix it , i just google it and usually one of the first couple of answers work and i am happy again in no time ... not this time though ... i am feeling desperate and cant do anything ..

i was just sitting normally on my pc i felt it was a little too slow, i tried to open thet task manager to see whats wrong thats when the first sign of the infection hit me ... "the task manager has been disabled by your administrator" ... WTH , i am the administrator ... anyways, i googled the problem found dozens of solutions so i thought thank god, its easy, i tried the first couple of solutions and they didnt work, one of then included registery editing .. now trying to start regedit .. the second hit ... "registry editing was disabled by your administrator"

i am (WAS) running kaspersky intrenet security fully updated and all .. so i decided to make a full system scan to catch the bugger .. so i double clicked on the mini icon of KIS and it hangs there a little then becomes not responding ... and then is closed by windows .. and never opens again ... that freaking bugger killed kaspersky !!! ... i tried everything .. every malware and sywar...
