video playback and streaming. Video card problem or software?

Question: video playback and streaming. Video card problem or software?

I recently installed Windows Service Pack 2, actually three times after reinstating my computer software to the original state by erasing and reinstalling the full software install CD on my computer's hard drive for Window XP Home. I have no problems playing games with my new FX 5200 Ultra video card by BFG, but I am at random times getting the annoying green screen that blanks out my videos I am streaming or playing(happens when I am streaming more often). Then after that happens usually, the computer reboots or shuts off. I never had this happen before. My computer's memory tests ok so why can I play games with this never happening but when I am streaming or watching video through Windows Media Player, etc do I get the "green screen blankout" and then often the shutdown of my computer? I have 512 MB of system memory and 128 MB of video memory! I use System Mechanic and it shows I have at least half of my memory even during playback so what is the problem here? I can attach my system computer file of my information if you like in an e-mail if it will help. AND YES I HAVE THE DIVX CODECS. I thought about that to and uninstalled and reinstalled them with the same random problems. PLEASE HELP ME. This is really annoying.

Preferred Solution: video playback and streaming. Video card problem or software?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: video playback and streaming. Video card problem or software?

Well, it seems u dont have a hardware problem. this problem occurs only when u r watching videos. so i guess its the media player. take my suggestion, stop using it. Download this pack: KLite Codec Pack. I think the latest version is 3.2. Its got all the codecs u need to play compressed videos, and dvds. Its also got an advanced media player which can play any video u open it with like wmv, dat, mpg, rm, mov, avi, divx..... of course, the codecs for these formats r included in the pack.

I have a problem, when I watch a streamed file it shows down the right side a greensih set of colours in rows, all the way down.If i reset the depth of the display to 16bits it goes away for 5 seconds and comes back again.I have reinstalled WMP 9, no luck, and also Windows XP itself.I have the latest drivers and updates for both Nvidia card & windows. Please can anyone help.

Answer:Video Playback & Streaming in XP - Problem

Try using winamp to watch them, full screen,if it still does it,then its likely the monitor. If is goes away, then its something with WMP and the cure is already installed on your machine(as I haven't the faintest howto fix WMP)click here

I've been using it for a long while now...and it is finally ticking me off. What is with Windows 10 and awful streaming video performance on certain sites?

And before you say anything:
-Same LAN/router/modem
-Same ample bandwidth to work with (30 megabit)
-Same website (Eurosportplayer, specifically-they're the only tools left streaming Silverlight BS)
-Same wireless connection
-Same video quality selection
-Same (if not similar browsers)

Windows 10 rig is my sig rig in this test (i7 and GTX 980 with latest drivers every time I've tried)
Windows 7 rig is a cheapo Lenovo laptop with I think an i3 and integrated graphics

Windows 7 will play Microsoft Silverlight video just fine. Windows 10 will not.

I've tried Opera, Chrome, Internet Explorer, and Firefox....the trend is the same. W10 is unusable, video seems to buffer/freeze every 3-10 seconds (varying on browser) for 3-5 seconds. Windows 7 plays it fine-all browsers. Shoot my sig rig played Silverlight Eurosport fine before switching to W10. Anyone know how to fix this, from what I've read it has been an issue on W10 from Day 1 of RTM?

Answer:Annoyed enough to ask: W10 and horrendous streaming video playback?

Your machine hates Windows 10, simple, you should listen to it.

/me ducks and covers...

Looking at your sig you're using... Windows 10 Enterprise LTSB. Well there you go, it's not really a "multimedia friendly" OS to be perfectly honest, and out of the box it's not designed for such purposes as people seem to think just because they can use it and they can strip it down a bit in terms of the privacy issues and some others.

I'd make an image of that installation, install Windows 10 Pro (or Basic) and see if things are exactly the same on the exact same hardware - I'm willing to bet $1 (Mortimer brothers be damned) that you'll have somewhat better performance with streaming.

For the last month or so online video has been choppy. In troubleshooting the problem I've found that another computer on the same network doesn't have this problem so not the network or internet connection. Neither is the problem about buffering since it'll still be choppy after the entire video has loaded. As well, I can download and save a choppy video and play it back on VLC or even open and play it from within Firefox and it works fine. The problem is only when streaming videos from a website (all websites) whether in Firefox, Chrome or IE.

I've tried updating the Flash Player, DirectX and video card driver, I've tried turning on/off hardware acceleration in Flash, Firefox and Display within Control Panel, I've tried disabling my virus protection and firewall, I've tried locating and disabling startup programs and services associated with none running software programs....Nothing works.

Does anyone have any ideas I could try to fix this?

Windows XP Pro with Service Pack 3

Answer:Choppy streaming video playback within browser.

Is this happening at Youtube or elsewhere? Is it just happening at one site or several sites? Link please so I can look at it myself. How much RAM do you have? Be aware that random buffering and choppiness on streaming video sites can be normal even if it doesn't seem normal. One solution is to pause the video and allow it to load completely before playing it.

My dell 4500s has choppy streaming video playback and dropped audio
in full screen mode when playing video from fox.com or hulu.com
When I play in the small window mode the playback is fine so I tried lowering my screen resolution from 1680x1050 to 800x600 then played
video in full screen mode with no problem other then incorrect aspect ratio.

I believe I have most of the latest dell drivers installed and did a speed test
2480 kb/s way faster than recommended by fox

My native res. is 1680x1050 for Samsung sm 2232bw .

I know this has probably been asked here several times, but I have been looking through the web for all sorts of little tips and tricks and none of them so far have worked. Any hulu/youtube/etc. streaming content type videos, even on the lowest hd setting (288p, for ex.) just ends up being choppy, worst in full screen. Here are my specs:

AMD Athlon XP 2600+ CPU
1.0 gig of Ram
PNY GeForce FX5200 256 mb PCI Graphics card
Windows XP Home Ed. w/SP3
160 gb HD

I am aware that this is definitely an older computer with an older processor, and if anything, it's probably the cpu that is preventing me from having normal playback with streaming content. I had a laptop with a Core Duo processor that worked fine with this type of video, but I fried it so I am stuck with this for now. Haven't used this PC in a few years so now I am noticing it's limitations as far as this stuff goes. If anyone has had any luck with an older machine getting relatively normal playback with these streams, please let me know. I have tried reducing hardware acceleration, drivers are fully updated for graphics card, hard drive is formatted so no viri are causing this, reinstalling flash, changing settings on monitor, and playback is the same. Any suggestions or help would be appreciated

recently I have wanted to get into video editing and I decided to try out a few different video editing software tools. I tried windows movie maker 2.6 first and it kept skipping when I would preview clips and freezing. The same thing is happening with the trial version of adobe's premiere elements 9 trial version. For adobe, it told me to download the latest video driver that was compatible so i did and it allowed me to see my videos and use it a little bit but it would not be able to keep up and would freeze occasionally. Does this have to do with my graphics card? This is what I could find of my computers information (i typed dxdiag in run):

System:

Operating system: Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit (6.1, Build 7600)
System Manufacturer: TOSHIBA
System model: Satellite A505
BIOS: InsydeH20 Version 1.20
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7 CPU Q 720 @ 1.60GHz (8 CPUs), ~1.6GHz
Memory: 4096MB RAM
DirectX Version: DirectX11

And I guess this is my graphics card:

Name: NVIDIA GeForce 310M
Chip Type: Geforce 310M
DAC Type: Integrated RAMDAC
Approx. Total Memory: 2256 MB
Current Display mode: 1366 x 768 (32 bit) (60Hz)

If anyone could help me it would be greatly appreciated, thank you.

P.s. I'm not very computer savvy so keep that in mind :-/

yes the graphics card seems to be the weak link in your setup, you could try searching for msi afterburner to try to overclock your graphics card but failing that i would upgrade your graphics card

Hey guys my T.V. broke just recently and for a substitute, until I can buy a replacement, I'm hooking my ps2 up to my computer via the rca connection. Only problem is I can't find software to stream the video on my computer from the ps2. Is there software out there where I would be able to do this in full screen. I've tried using Windows Movie Maker but it's such a small screen that I have a really hard time playing gran turismo on. Thanks for the help.

the rca connection is gonna look horrible. If you have svideo, hook that up now.

What you want is tv viewing software. www.dscaler.com has some really good software, if your card is supported. I dont know what card your video-in is on.

Hey guys, I decided to jump on GPU accelerated video playback, and I'm having some problems, after reading some articles on internet, I downloaded Media Player Classic Home Cinema, and it works, but not always, there some .mkv videos that had been accelerated and others clearly didn't been accelerated, and while others the fluctuation between CPU and GPU made me unable to determine if it was accelerated or not, every suggestion will be helpful,
Some suggestion:
I don't have any code packs installed, if I need some please suggest what codecs are the best.
also can you recommend some good monitoring software to know what is doing my GPU and CPU cause what I use I don't like.
I have an AMD Athlon 2 630 x4 and ATI 5770.
Thanks for every suggestion.

Answer:GPU accelerated video playback software

GPU accelerated playback doesn't make much a difference imo.
I like process explorer but if I were you, i'd just leave it.

Hi all,

Building a computer for a friend, its nothing special but not too bad except that it keeps locking up whenever I try any sort of video playback, be it in windows media, powerdvd or nero suite. Sound plays fine, I occasionally get an image but mostly it just locks the machine solid and I have to reset it.
Specs are:
Sapphire Radeon Xpress motherboard, Connect3d X300 gfx card, skt939 AMD64 3000 and 512mb ram, XP Home SP2.
Games appear to work just fine too, it runs 3d mark03 flawlessly albeit a touch slow

Any help would be great

Thanks,

Have you considered Helix server (from Real)? Its quite efficient, and you can stream live audio/video using Helix Producer if you so desire.

Shoutcast DNAS is great for audio streaming, but not so great for video.

What is the application? Broadcasting live a/v, or mainly streaming static files?

Hello reader. I work in the tech department of a small company that sells recording equipment for vehicles.
We have started selling a range of digital video recording (DVR) units and are having a huge problem with the viewing software.
The software is called CMSV6 and is a generally universal viewing tool for DVRs.
I have tested this software on 3 laptops and 3 desktop PCs and it only works on one - a dual core 2.4ghz, 32bit win7 sp1, 4gb ram. I have been assured from the developers that the program is compatible with every (non server) version of Windows from XP and onwards.
The other machines are running Windows XP, 8.1 and 10.
On the latter machines The program loads fine but when you chose the directory of the footage you want to view, the program simply does not find anything.
It's almost like the program is being blocked or there is a small *something* missing from all the other computers.
I have tried
installing and running the program with admin rights
Sharing the drive/folder
Lowering and removing basic security settings
Adding firewall/antivirus exceptions
Disabling firewall/antivirus
Every 'compatibility mode' imaginable
Different versions of the program
Updating Adobe flash and Java
Any ideas would be much appreciated

Answer:Digital Video Recorder playback software being blocked?

A google search doesn't reflect that name as DVR software.  Another search reflects that name as being the product of various spftware developers.

Who is the developer of this particular program you reference?

How important is the graphics card for streaming live content? What I particularly have in mind is receiving a high quality webcam stream on a laptop with just integrated graphics (using broadband).

Answer:Importance of graphics card for streaming video

I don't think it's very important at all. The high cost of some graphics cards is all aimed at high speed 3d gaming needs. Any half decent modern graphics card should have no trouble handling webcam video.

Alright, I have spend about 3 years trying to resolve this problem and I have done so much research that I felt it would be a waste for me not to post something about it.
After I owned two Dell laptops, the XPS13 and Alienware 17. Both having the same problems. I tried everything, I read through all of the forums and I tried everytthing these forums have suggested and at multiple occasions I ruined my laptop and had to format it.
I also always had the full warrenty with Dell customer service and have replaced my xps13 TWICE and my Alienware once. This is of course after replacing the motherboard and the hard drive and spending endless hours over the phone with them while they update all my drivers and ensure my software is running correctly. They ran 100's of tests on my computer to see why this is happening and no one could ever solve this problem.
However, after all this research with no solution in sight I thought of the problem logically. My alienware was running 16 gb of ram and 1 TB of HDD regular hard drive. I figured if I have so much ram to run anything I want, maybe it is having the regular hard drive that is not keeping up with the ram. Sure enough, when I went and bought the best SSD out there Samsung Pro 950 256 GB and installed it and used it as my operating system while the HDD ran as my storage. For the first time in 3 years and 4 computers... my pc was running with no jitterz or lagging or any issues!

Ever since I purchased this laptop a year ago it has had horrible screen tearing and freezing during local video playback (videos played on the laptop not online) videos on youtube work perfectly the problem arises when watching a video off the machine itself.  It's incredibly frustrating to purchase a 1300 dollar laptop and have it be unable to perform simple laptop tasks.  The problem hasn't bothered me that much as I typically use the laptop for gaming and my PC for video playback but I've been traveling more and am seeking a solution asap.  The problem persists on Lenovo video, VLC, and windows media player here is a video go to about 11 seconds in and you'll see what I am talking about. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Jc5DAEO0c0 This occurs about every 20 seconds or so, on VLC the screen tears and fidgets around (Featured above) on windows media player it freezes completely for about 5 seconds then fast fowards On lenovo video player it freezes every 5 seconds for about a second. Can  I have a lenovo tech help me with a fix? Thank you

Hello
I just had this card installed, and i am now having problems with video's down loaded from the web. The video picture colors are all off, sound is fine. I Am using Windows XP pro. It/videos work intermitantly?? Mostly dont,,, PC Games and still pics are just GREAT. Any ideas on how to fix. I have fiddled with different things but nothing changes the video color quality.

Answer:New, Nvidia Geforce FX 5500 256Mb Video Card and have problem with down loaded video

Ah, my friend.it sounds not to be a video card problem, but more of a codec issue. make sure your codecs are up to date and if that doesn't work, post your system specs.

Hi there,

Over the past couple of weeks, my PC has begun freezing - but ONLY when I'm watching videos. That can be either streaming or in Media Player etc. It never freezes if I'm doing other stuff.

Any ideas? is my video card kaput, do you think?

My video card first started acting up. It would switch to my onboard video, then back to my video card, then back the forth until the video card stopped working. I tested my video card in a different PC and it works fine. Now my onboard video has stopped working. I have a cheap power supply in my computer. Do you think it's the PSU?

I need some advice.

Thanks

Hello all,
I am looking for some assistance as to what is causing my computer to crash. It doesn't happen insanely often, but the way it crashes makes me think there's a hardware issue going on. I am mostly thinking it's either my CPU or one of my two graphics cards installed, but I'd be more inclined towards the GPU being faulty.

The reason being is that the crashes happen mostly when I'm doing HD video playback or editing video or visual effects. The software I use mostly is The Foundry's Nuke and Autodesk's Maya. I also experience video lag spikes during this, such as poor UI navigation within these software.

However, I have tried stress testing my CPU and graphics cards for hours without any crashes, and even performing fresh installs on the OS(Win7), so I'm not entirely sure which piece of hardware is causing me these crashes and spikes. Any and all help will be greatly appreciated.

Attached is the zip file including the dmp and driver information files as outlined in the forum. If you need any other information about my system, please let me know. Once again, thank you for all your help! Hope to hear from you all soon

Two of the three dumps blame your nVidia driver (the other dump is inconclusive), the first think to try would be going to NVidia's site and getting some different drivers and take it from there.

Totally bizarre - I updated to the latest drivers using RadarSync.  Now videos from my flip (mpeg4) all play back as all black, unless I move the "Display Properties/Settings/Advanced/Troubleshoot/Hardware acceleration" slider to "Disable all DirectDraw and Direct3d" or lower.  Anyone else encountered this issue where videos start playing as all black?  It seems to be independent of the decoder (xvid or ffmpeg) or video player (Microsoft Video player, VLC) application that I use. Thinkpad T42p WinXP SP3ATI  MOBILITY FIRE GL T2/T2e 8.453.0.0Xvid MPEG-4 Video codec (reinstalled with latest)

Hi,

Iím in a dilly of a pickle here.

When playing video, my screen will go black for just a second and then return to normal. With most video players, the video will then usually play, but when using BSPlayer (bsplayer.org) to watch video, the screen will go black, return to normal and then video will not play.

It gets worse. Sometimes, I will be minding my own the computer will still be running, but then, the screen will go black, then the monitor will give me the old message:
"self test / check your pc and signal cable / monitor is working"
The computer will still be running, and the only way I know to get picture back is to restart the computer. I have gotten this error the most when the using BSplayer, which sometimes causes the monitor to just shut down like that. But other video players like divx, QuickTime, and windows media player will all occasionally not play or cause weird image problems to crop up on the screen

Also, if the computer freezes up, hitting ctrl+alt+del gives me a black screen with garbled white text.

I have updated my NVIDIA drivers and installed the latest bsplayer version, but neither of those actions fixed my dilemma.

Hello tenforums members,
I upgraded my Lenovo U310 laptop from Windows 8.1 to Windows 10 a week ago. Everything seems to have upgraded successfully. The only problem that I can find is that none of the video streaming from Windows 10 apps can be played. I get an error 'Unsupported video type or invalid file path' when I click on a video article in USA Today or when I try to stream video from any other apps, NBC News, MSN Money, etc... from Windows 10 store.

I have no issue streaming videos from any of the browser though. What could be missing that could cause video streaming to fail? I would appreciate any suggestions or comments. Thanks.

Hi,
I was able to resolve the issue by disabling all hardware enhancements for Conexant Smartaudio HD. Here are the steps I took to resolve it, in case someone else runs into the same frustrating problem as I did: Right click on the speaker icon on the lower right hand corner -> Playback Devices -> Disable all hardware enhancements -> OK -> Reboot. That's it!

I ask because I found something interesting on my new dm3.

VLC, which has ALWAYS been the fastest and most universal video player I have ever used, stuttered with this machine, while windows media played the file perfectly.
It seems vlc player is a software only video decoder (am I wrong in this?)

windows media player seems to be using my gpu (3200 on the MB) to offload some of the load, which is important for an athlon neo x2 cpu as it is not that powerful. I always used vlc on desktops so it never showed up.
If I am saying wrong stuff, please set me straight, and if there are other players out there that support hardware accelerated video playback via the gpu, please pass them along.

Answer:Which video players support uvd decoding for video playback?

MPC-HC, WMP12, WMC in Windows 7, and some other proprietary bundles that aren't even worth mentioning.

I have a question for the gurus here.

I notice with video playback that it gets a little choppy, like a line that forms across the middle of the screen and breaks up the video. It seems to only happen in 'higher intensity' video playback, but I don't know that for sure. I'm fairly certain that I have the most updated drivers from ATI, but will check for sure when I get home. What else could this be? Do I just need more power? The gfx card is a few years old now. Originally I thought it was my monitor, but I have since replaced it and the problem persists.

Answer:GFX Issue with glitch when video playback during video gaming

Have you gave your case a good cleaning lately, sounds more like a temp effect than power.

Hi guys, so very recently (a couple of months ago) I built a custom desktop intended for gaming, and every game works great on max settings, youtube and online players work fine. However, when I play either Windows Media Player, or VLC player, strange things start happening. For both players, after a few minutes into the video, the video playback disappears and the player becomes unresponsive (can't access menus, can't fullscreen), however, the sound still plays fine. Though sometimes I can open the player menus, but they're blacked out, furthermore, the desktop taskbar starts glitching (chrome or VLC icon superimposes itself on the windows/start logo), re-positioning the taskbar fixes this. Basically, the WMP and VLC players' video playback glitches out a few minutes into the video, but sound is fine. Can't figure this out for the life of me. I've re-installed both players, re-installed the video driver, downloaded Shark007 codecs, disabled anti-virus, nothing works. Here's some of my specs from Belarc;

Answer:Video players' video playback failing after a few minutes

Hi

What I would do to start with is to re-download the latest Chipset driver and install and reboot, then install the latest Nvidia driver for your card and reboot.

Then look in device manager for any yellow ! marks and if you have any let us know what?
Also while you mention ESET Smart Security, nice app BTW, what other security software do you have installed?

Run Ccleaner and click Tools > Startup and then click the Save to text file button at the bottom, Then attach your log to your next post as per these instructions HOW TO: Attach Items To Your Post Click to expand...

As you mention Shark Codecs, do you have any other codec packs installed if so uninstall all including Shark and run CCleaner and then reboot and just install Shark, but aslo make sure you have latest Adobe Flash/Shockwave installed.

I would also try Safe Mode and Safe mode with networking and see if you have same playback issues.
Could use the below to give us an idea of your start-up apps

Probably not, it's not the video card, it's the resolution and bitrate the video was encoded at.

Answer:Video(any) playback problem

Have you checked your video card drivers? Can you play DVD's? What program are you using to check the codec of the file you are trying to run?

If you can play a dvd, then you should be able to play avi and mpeg files assuming you have the codec needed and that the files are proper mpeg and avi files and not hoax files. If you dont have it try Avicodec. If this can't read the file then it's a duff file. But I don't think thats the problem in your case. It will be a codec problem or a video card/driver problem. Installing to much codec can be problematic also.

Hi everyone. Iíve been having a big problem with viewing video clips on my pc. Iím running XP Pro and the only software that is installed on my pc is Office 2003 Pro and Project 2003 and Visio 2003.

Every time I try to open a video clip, it freezes the picture and all you hear is the audio for the clip but the video doesnít play. When I ďend taskĒ the program, usually windows media player, it locks the computer up, mouse keyboard, everything.

I have a program that checks all of the codecs on my pc and none of the codecs seemed to have had a problem.

I also uninstalled media player and installed it again from Microsoftís website (latest version).

Anyway my computer locks up whenever a video clip is played, even if I go to a website that uses my media player as opposed to running it from their server.

Any thoughts? Iím beginning to get a little desperate.

The only video files my computer is allowing me to play is DivX files. On top of that it is only letting me play DivX files in DivX player and nothing else. When I try to play .avi, .mpg, .wmv files in WMP 11, Winamp, or Real Player I only hear audio but see no video. However, I hear audio and see video while playing a DivX file in DivX player. I believe this problem started when I upgraded to WMP 11 or up to DivX 6.8. I have uninstalled WMP 11 and went back to WMP 9 but that didn't change anything. I uninstalled DivX 6.8 and reverted back to DivX 6.6 and it worked. I could play my video files in WMP 11. That lasted for 2 weeks and then it happened again for no apparent reason. I have audio and video in DivX player but only audio in WMP 11 etc. The driver for my video card is up to date and I think I have all necessary codecs. If anybody can think of what might be wrong and have a solution for me I would really appreciate your help with this.

Thank you,

Hi Pilot724..

To be honest, it does sound like a codec issue. It may be an idea to try something like K-Lite Codec Pack as they have a pretty comprehensive set for most video types. Also, Ace Mega Codecs Pack v5.93 is very good too. I have had it installed for a couple of years and I never have any problems with any video content.

Right. I have a 700Mb avi file on my PC, and a nice big lcd tv downstairs with a VGA input thingy.
I copy the avi file onto my external hard drive (It throws up an box saying 'Are you sure you want to copy this file without its properties', whatever this means). I then copy it from the external drive onto my laptop, and give it a test play to make sure it works. It does.
I go downstairs, plug the laptop into TV, using the Nvidia control panel to set the TV to display the same thing as the laptop monitor. Then I try and play the video. Media player opens, sound comes out, but no picture.
Try media player classic. No picture. I've unplugged the TV, installed the latest ffdshow, restarted, but nothing works. Since plugging into the TV, I'm unable to play any video files, they just display nothing.

Before I plugged it into the TV, I could play all video files. After, I can't get the video for any, just the sound. Plus, the playback is rather laggy.
The laptop is running SP2, using the cccp.

Thanks :)

Hey there,

I am having troubles getting the playback of videos working on my laptop. Every video I play with any player (windows media, media player classic, real player, ect ect) will sometimes freeze the video (the sound still goes) when I either first play it or full screen the video. The only play it will not do this with is Winamp, but with Winamp there is a problem with my videos when I fullscreen them using Winamp that two black bars on the right and left won't disappear but do not completely touch the bottom and top of the video (so it looks like the video kind of sticks out when its in full screen, very annoying).

I have no idea what it is, I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling my codecs and video drivers (I use Combined Community Codec Pack for codecs and Omega Drivers for video drivers).

I noticed in my Sony laptop there is java, MSXML 4.0 SP2, microsoft visual c++, directx, shockwave player, and .net framework 4.0. These programs are not installed on the pc in question, because I built it myself and used a windows 7 x64 fresh install.

How can I get smooth playback?
Do I need any of these things installed? Can anyone suggest trying something else?

btw, 1080p movies in vlc play no problem.

Thanks in advance, very appreciated.

Answer:Video playback problem

Maybe internet connection? I would say you may just want to install those programs and see if it works better. All of the programs are less than 50 megs and should take less than ten minutes to install all of them.

Hello all,

I've got a new built computer, with a brand new used 22" Mitsubishi Diamond Pro 2040u monitor (with WAY more gizmo's, gadet's, buttons, and knobs than I know what to do with! See my post in the hardware forum). My problem is this. My computer screen looks great! Huge, actually. And the colors are fine. *Until,* that is, I play a movie. Then it gets dark. I have WMP 11 installed. I can't find my PowerDVD 5 disc anywhere, so I went looking for a free DVD player, and came up with VideoLan VLC 0.8.6b. Installed it, and now the DVD's I play in addition to the mpg's I play are very dark. Color's all wrong. I do have the newest update of Divx on here (just updated today, after this problem, and didn't fix this problem.) This didn't happen 3 days ago, but that was before my monitor died. So its either my monitor that's a problem, but I doubt that cuz everything else looks just fine including movies played on MSN, or some sort of codec or something problem. So I tried uninstalling VLC, still problems. Currently that's where I've stopped.

SO, summary: New computer w/WMP 11, and new Divx and VLC no longer on, but on for awhile, just DVD's and mpgs played in WMP or VLC (while it was on) or Divx Player look dark. Anything played online is fine.

I should clarify. VLC was installed just today. Before it was installed mpg's worked fine, couldn't play DVD's...

Any thoughts anyone??

TIA

Hi there, i'm having a very annoying problem with my computer!
I have my PC connected up to my 26" Bush LCD TV for gaming & that works no problem but when i come to watch any video files from the PC or use the DVD drive on the PC, all i get on the TV is a back space where the video should be. I can watch stuff on the monitor ok its just through the TV. I have tried changing all sorts of settings but nothing seems to work.
The only videos i can watch on my TV are the ones off YouTube, but everything else is a no go.

My Graphics card is GeForce 7600 GT with 2 DVI outputs & to connect to the TV im just using a simple DVI to VGA plug.
Any helps would be much appreciated

i'm having this problem when i play video files on my computer, where the picture will occasionally freeze for a moment, or lag during playback while the audio continues uninterrupted. I don't know if i'm explaining my problem clearly. i know it's not a problem with a particular piece of software, because this happens on any program i use, be it WMP, WinAMP, or whatever else. I don't think it's my codecs either because i always keep them up to date and pretty organized.

i have four 80gb hdd's in my box right now, one for the os and program files, one for backup, and two set up in a JBOD where all my media is located. could the JBOD affect media playback? i use DIRMs almost on a weekly basis to defrag all four hdd's so i don't think its a fragmentation problem either.

anybody know what's going on here?

hmm, on second thought maybe i should have posted this in general hardware...

Answer:Video Playback Problem (lag?)

I don't care if the codecs are up to date uninstall them and then try this one:

If the problems still occure then it's something else.

A friends PC worked fine, played back standard def and 720p HD without a problem.

Then it stopped, and started using 100% CPU for either type of video file and staggers/pauses.

For what appeared to be no reason at all.

We reinstalled Windows XP, all current drivers etc and still the same.

We changed the Hard Drive and still the same. (in-case of PIO mode)

We changed the memory and still the same.

We changed the GFX card and still the same.

Thing is it worked perfectly fine before it started craping out.

Its a dual core 3.2ghz processor with a gig of ram, it worked perfectly before!

We dont know what to do anymore other than change the CPU and/or Motherboard!

Any help would be very much greatly accepted!

Thanks in advance

Answer:Video Playback Problem

You'll want to put it back into DMA mode (PIO is slooow).
dual-core should be plenty of horsepower for HD.
First thing I'd try to do is get the latest drivers for the graphics card (generic drivers from Microsoft probably aren't optimized for DXVA)

Have you tried Media Player Classic HC?
http://mpc-hc.sourceforge.net/
You'll definitely want to read this though:
http://mpc-hc.sourceforge.net/DXVASupport.html
DXVA is a technology that allows for the GPU to offload video decoding from the CPU. It requires proper codecs and players to work. (and naturally for proper graphics card and graphics drivers)

Can you list additional specs? GPU? Do you have the latest drivers for GPU? Media Players and codecs installed.

If you are using WindowsXP then go for System Restore. Select a System check point before the problem occurred. This is an easy way out.Go to Start->All Programs->Accessories->System Tools and then click on System Restore. This will take you there. The rest is self explantory.'Z'

This has been happening on and off ever since I started with Win 10 and its always very annoying .

System just hangs, no error message, no bsod, just complete freeze and loud hum.

I cant say I can remember having issues watching youtube videos, its the streaming of live content such as filmon. Sometimes I can watch filmon for days and not have the issue and then randomly it will start again. Today I was watching hypermole playing on twitch tv (live) and it just happened. Getting tired of it.
I can also report having all my video content display as a green screen after using hyper v although that may be totally unrelated.

As far as I am aware, I'm using the latest drivers for my graphics, I always try update everything. I have attached the log files as requested.

Answer:Hang up/Crash when streaming video, especially live video

Hi m1a1t,

Welcome to the 10forums

I'm not a specialist when it comes to freeze problems, but I do have a tip (or 2 when talking about reverting back the changes)
IObit software is known for causing problems, I would highly recommend that you remove it and revert back the changes it made when it comes to drivers.
DB3 may install corrupted or the wrong drivers what may cause problems,Malwarefighter is IMHO garbage,Advanced SystemCare may cause more harm than good
About the uninstall program I can't tell you anything, because I have no experience with it and I prefer to keep it that way.

I have a customer that wants to do an in-house streaming video server with 5 big screens to show videos, slide shows, POS promo type stuff.

They said they don't mind wiring up a dedicated network for this use to avoid flooding their existing network with the video traffic.

Just looking for suggestions from you guys who have done this type of project on video appliances or video servers and the hardware to connect the 5 screens.

Answer:Inhouse streaming video POS/Retail video suggestions?

You can get units that will take a VGA input and output it to several monitors over Cat5. One of my clients uses this in their office, forget the exact name of it.

I have had a problem for some time now with WMP9 and streaming video. the problem is with all formats EXCEPT .asf and .wmv. those two work fine, all others crash WMP9 with an "unknown error". After this had happened a few times I decided to send an error report on it to see if it might find a fix. It came up witth an article that said I needed to update my copy of MPEG Encoder. I do not have that application(yes it was refering to an application, had a link for me to dl it)
I did at one time attempt to install Adobe Premiere but it did not install correctly and I uninstalled it. it included a version of MPEG Encoder in it, so gave that app a shot, it did not fix the problem.

I can play all media formats if they are on my machine. I can also stream these files using Quicktime or RealOne(but I don't like those apps)
The problem also seems to occur in K++(Kazaa) If I try to preview any video types other than wmv or asf, I get the same error as when streaming.

As I said, this has been going on for a while now, I've looked around, asked around and searched old threads here. I can come up with nothing and no one seems to want to help me other than suggesting a format. I do not subscribe to the theory that a format is a fix for anything, so that is not an option. I need to fix this, it has gone from being a slight annoyance, to being a huge headache.

Adobe Premiere is known not to uninstall the codecs it has installed and I personally have had problems with this. IIRC all i had to do was to delete the offending files from windows system folder.. I'm sure you can find the exact instructions how to do this if you search the web (that's how i got them).

hi, need help..

i'm experiencing a major problem with video streaming or watching videos from sites such as yahoo, nba for morethan a week already; but has no problem watching videos from youtube, metacafe, & the likes or flash videos.

everytime i click a link to a video it doesn't load, and it will stay 1 or 0% all the time. clicking play does nothing. it's just stuck at 0 or 1%, play state is always stuck at "ready". whatever browser i use the result is still the same.

from what i know, nba & yahoo (like featured videos, news) either use Quicktime or Windows Media Player to load & play videos. my prob is it suddenly stopped playing videos for no reason. my media player is upto date, quicktime, realplayer & other codecs are upto date. just wondering why i can't view a video from those sites? does anybody know a solution? anything i need to do?
my OS is XP pro, connection speed is ranging from 700+ to 900+ kbps (dsl connection).
i use IE 6 & Firefox 1.5

There could be a number of issues at hand over here. First of all you have an older version of Firefox. The latest one is 2.0.1 which you can here. Can you post an example of a video you can't see.

Running Win7 Pro SP1, Chrome ver 63.0.3239.132

When I go to CBSnews.com the page loads just fine. At the top of the page there is a black bar with a choice entitled CBSN which is their streaming video site. Most of the time clicking on that works. Every once in a while I get a screen that says:

"This page isn't working. www.cbsnews.com redirected you too many times. Try clearing your cookies."

I clear my cookies and it doesn't help. I can't get the page to work. I've tried rebooting and that doesn't help. I keep fiddling around and finally it will work.

Does any one have any ideas as t what is happening and how to correct the problem when it happens? I hope I'm making my self clear.

Thanks, Henry

I have a client with a Q-See DVR that they would like to access remotely. The web interface works fine internally (192.168.x.x). I opened up port 80 and 2000, and setup dynamic dns for them. I can connect to the web interface remotely, but none of the video shows up. Any ideas?

Answer:Q-See DVR Video Streaming Problem

Maybe a browser issue? I have a client with a different vendor's DVR, but we can only view the video in Internet Explorer. It installs an ActiveX component, which then makes everything work. Firefox, Safari, Opera - none of them work.

I have a Dell SC600 tower computer, several years old. It has a P4 with 2.66 GB speed. I have 2 GB ram, 7200 rpm hard drives and an Internet Connection that varies between 2 and 5 MB. I'm guaranteed 2 MB...but most of the time if I check it, it's a lot faster.

This particular problem has started since I installed Windows 7...I never had it in XP. When I installed Windows 7, I didn't have the problem, it seem to have started recently. It could have started when I replaced RC with the Release version.

When I try to play a Video...regardless of the source, it plays for a few seconds, then stops, then plays for a few seconds, then stops, and never just plays. The Video buffer never fills up...it just stays at the current location. \

I don't mind waiting till the buffer reaches 100% and then start playing the video...but no matter how long I wait, the buffer indicator doesn't move.

Any ideas?

I'm running Win XP Home with SP2, fully up-to-date, with WMP 10. I had no prior problems with streaming videos. However, I recently installed Nero, after which I find that streaming to WMP 10 no longer works. Instead, the files have to be downloaded first. I've checked the file associations in WMP 10 and Win XP, and ensured that .wmv and .wma files are to be opened with WMP, but that doesn't help.

Shall I try re-installing WMP 10? Or is there some setting in WMP that was overwritten by Nero?

Thx for any advice.

Hi there :)

I'm running into an odd problem. It started a couple days ago for reasons unknown. If I try to play an embedded video, such as this, the video will begin to play in media player as normal, but a download progress window will also open. This didn't use to happen, but here's the really weird part- if I cancel the download progress window, everything is fine; if I let it go the video will either restart, or stop playing all together along with an error message stating that the file cannot be found.

I tried clearing my TIFs, relocating my TIF folder, checked and rechecked every setting I can see, and everything looks fine. It's kind of baffling =[

Any ideas?

Ok I am a techy myself, and am no novice to compters. But this problem has stumped me cold in my tracks. Heres my info

Windows XP SP1 with patches dating up to SP2
VII 100Mbs/sec NIC Adaptor
Router disabled for this problem
Pentium III 1.7 ghz processor
1 gig ram
300 gigs HD's, partitioned, 150gigs free
Windows media player 10
DSL internet connection

When tring to stream a video, any video, any web site, though to the windows media player, it doesnt connect. It tries at first then just returns to the ready option. Refreashing the page does nothing but agravate me further. So here is where I started.

First I checked my nic, ping 127.0.0.1 -t, tried the video with that running and I got complete replies to my nic, the video never came up.

Then I thought, maybe my router is going bad, I removed the router and went from extenal modem strait to pc (rebooting of course). Tried the video again, nothing.

Thats all the hardware I can test, thus I moved on to software tests. I checked windows media player. I uninstalled it, and reinstalled WMP10. Once again, nothing.

Here is a stumper and maybe a root cause, while downloading the WMP10, I noticed I was only downloading at 40k/sec. Slow for even dial up, however I'm on DSL. AND the connection status screen shows a 100Mbs/s connection. Could have been the servers I was connecting to, but it was 1:30 in the AM, so I ruled that out.

This computer has streamed video perfectly before, and I dont think its the ... Read more
