Preferred Solution: how do i find out what type of graphics adapter i have?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have an Acer Aspire 7720G laptop.
Does anyone know how to find out the type of graphics card it contains and whether or not it needs updating?
Thanks

Download Belarc Advisor and run it. It will tell you everything about your system. Alternatively open Device Manager and look what it says there.

Okay, so the other day i downloaded windows xp SP2; and ever since i've been getting the error message: "Failed to find any directx 9.0c compatible graphics adapters in this system!" when i try to play the Sims 2.

The thing is, i've been told my computer isn't necesarily "fit" for the game. But it worked for over a year BEFORE i downloaded SP2. So i deleted SP2, to see if that would work, well; it did not.

I still get the error message.

When i go to the diagnostic tool, it says this on "Display": The system is using the generic video driver. Please install video driver provided by the hardware manufacturer.
To test DirectDraw functionality, click the "Test DirectDraw" button above.
Direct3D functionality not available. You should verify that the driver is a final version from the hardware manufacturer.

Before i downloaded SP2, again, i didn't have this "generic" thing; i had the real thing.

About the system:
Operating System: Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition (5.1, Build 2600)
Language: English (Regional Setting: English)
System Manufacturer: Compaq Presario 061
Processor: Intel (R) Celeron (R) CPU 2.53GHz, ~2.5GHz
Memory: 504MB RAM
DirectX Version: DirectX 9.0c (4.09.0000.0904)

Can anyone..y'know..help? I'm about ready to pull my hair out.
Thanks, ahead of time.

Answer:Failed To Find Any Directx 9.0c compatible graphics adapter--

Reinstall the video drivers, remember to use driver cleaner pro first. Although you haven't told us which card you've got, but it's a Compaq so I'm guessing it's either intergrated or its a nvidia 5200. If its intergrated the drivers will be found on the CD with the motherboard/chipset/sound/network drivers. Although I'm not to sure Compaq gives you that CD.

Sims 2 help?
I played Sims 2 yesterday and it was working. I have no expansions for The Sims 2. I do have downloaded content. I just don't know why whenever I startup the Sims 2 this message comes up "Failed to find any DirectX 9.0c compatible graphics adapters in this system! Please make sure you have a direct X9.0c compatible graphics adapter and have installed the latest drivers provided by the manufacturer. The application will now terminate."I did run dxdiag and I have X9.0c on my computer. Sims 2 is the only game I have on this computer so I made sure I had enough space. Help please!
I have tried cleaning the disk and taking off all of the downloadable content
Thank you!

To Whom It May Concern (or anyone willing to help):
About 6-8weeks ago (guesstimate) I started getting a random window popup at various times while browsing online. The semi-odd thing about it is #1-same type of popup on both ie & my Chrome browsers; #2- I hadn't downloaded/installed anything around then; #3 I havenot been able to find their source; #4- Have not found any scan (malwarebytes, Panda, pcpitstop, etc) that seems to locate it, nor does my Winpatrol. The popup windows vary in advertisers, but most frequent is for the game "Big Farm". They are always fullsized page & open in a new window (not just a new tab), without my regular menu/toolbar, etc on top. I did notice a little icon right before the url it shows at very top, clicked it & got a menu-thing showing the permissions of the settings, etc & I could click to view cookie data (in which I was thinking "yippee I got it", lol)... I can "remove" & "block", however each time I can make sure I do all of the however it doesn't seem to help because in a little bit "poof" it comes up just as before! Of course it can get irritating!
Now, as of 2days ago I've suddenly gotten a new & BIGGER annoyance... Hi!I was wondering if anyone could help me with this issue. My G580 is still inside the warranty and started showing this flickering lines and areas of the screen that are a complete mess. I am trying to request a service to get it fixed but I am asked for a machine type, model type, and serial number. I found the serial number but the form keeps complaining that it should be a maximum of 9 characters (and mine has 10). And for the machinge type and model type, I just can't find them. There's nothing on the sticker showing a model like it is shown in the help section. Can anyone help me please? Thank you!

Hi afm, welcome to the forums,

have you had a look under the battery? Quite often the sticker detailing the information will be there, it can also be found on the box if you still have it or on the first screen after entering BIOS.

Hello,I can't seem to find specific information about this pc related to this topic. I have a client that wants to have a hdmi port and dual monitor installed. I looked everywhere in the bios settings, I tried using a usb-to-vga adapter & and vga, dvi-d cable & vga (this mirrors both monitors, but cannot extend the display). When I changed the settings on the bios to use the built in graphics, it gives me the option to enable multiple monitors but cannot use my pcie graphic card. If i select to use the pcie graphic card, i cannot use the built in graphic ports or the usb-to-vga adapter (it does not see the other monitor) and also if I use the dvi adpater and the vga it mirrors the display. I'm guessing that the bios does not support dual graphic cards but thought of asking here. The reason the client wants this is to be able to connect a projector using hdmi and to have dual monitors. Any information will be greatly appreaciate it. Thank you.

Hello

I have my AWUS036H for a few months now and it worked perfect until now.
My landlord has a router in his appartment and I need to connect to that router to get access to the internet.
I bought this adapter for a better signal but this week I got a very weird problem.
My adapter can find all the networks surrounding it except my landlord his network. But my inbuilt adapter can find my landlord's network and all the others. To clarify, here an example:

AUS036H finds:
Neighbour1 (strong signal)
Neighbour2 (strong signal)

Inbuilt adapter finds:
Neighbour1 (weak signal)
Neighbour2 (weak signal)
Landlord's network (weak signal)

What is going on? It drives me nuts!

Thanks in advance

Here is the problem, the AWUS036H can only see b or g signals, it's not 802.11n capable so it can't see N only signals. The Landlord has a router which is set to broadcast the faster setting which is 802.11n only, not mixed with b or g because that would limit the connection speed to 54Mbps.

This means that you can't see his N only signal because the AWUS036H isn't N capable. No doubt the inbuilt adaptor is N capable.

You really need to get one that can pick up b, g and more importantly n which is much faster and usually has more range.

This is a common problem (I see lots of posts)
The problem source is the [Dell] AC adapter. PA-21 Family, 65W, P/N: NX061. It is made in China.
I have an XPS M1330. Using Dell after warranty service, replaced the Mother Board twice, replaced the battery twice, replaced the AC adapter twice - not fixing it.
Turns out the power warning message is very informative. It states "Please connect a Dell 65W AC adapter or greater for best system performance". So, I plugged in my Dell 95W adapter - WOW Problem Solved.
A lab test of my new Dell 65W AC adapter shows it to be 64.6 watts. If this unit gets hot (like after several hours of use), it may not put out the full 65 watts - the system may not recognize the adapter, it may power the system ok, but won't charge the battery.
These units burn out after only a few months of use. Their cables are too fragile. If Dell's or their supplier's Quality Control can't produce a reliable 65W product - I found seveal "Made In USA" universal adapters.

Answer:AC Adapter - Alert - "AC power adapter wattage and type cannot be determined"

Well my solution was simple.
I just removed the battery pack and powered up my notebook. Then I turned off the notebook replaced the battery pack and VOILA. The error message was gone.

Hey, I wanted to put some new games on my Laptop, and I got the Direct X 9.0c Compatible Graphics Adapter message. So I went online, and was instructed to go onto Device Manager and I found I had Standard VGA Graphics Adapter, so then I got some kind of update checker and it looked through my hardware and found that my Graphic Adapter needed updating...

I have already put some of the games I want on my laptop before now, and un-installed them when I ran out of space, and now I have more space I want to put them back on.

I tried a link for the Update, but it told me to use Windows Update, but it doesn't seem to work.

Does anyone know a free way of updating Standard VGA Graphics Adapter?

That would be helpful x :grinthumb

Okay, I'm really depending on you guys to help me out here.
So, my computer is overheating at temps ~above 60C. My Nvidia Geforce GT 335m wont update, from the nvidia download page, nor from device manager. I was just simply updating my drivers from Device Manager, when I went to update my VGA Graphics a screen came up and said an error was encountered with Nvidia GeForce GT 335m. Now device manager says VGA Standard graphics adapter cannot start. Could this be causing overheating? I'm also getting strange crashes in League of Legends since this happened, where I get a Black Screen and need to hard reboot my computer sometimes after games.
Anyway, its like my Nvidia graphics card is "missing" or something. P.S. I also have an under laptop cooling fan.Edit
Also, would restoring to factory settings return my drivers to default again, and possibly fix this problem?

I had to replace the power cord (from the outlet to the box) on my AC adapter. It worked fine for awhile; but now I'm getting this message on boot up. "Warning. The AC adapter type cannot be determined. This will prevent optimal system performance. Please check AC adapter is connected properly. Remove AC adapter and plug it in again." I tried plugging it in again several times to no avail. Then my virus program (Trend Micro PC-cillin Internet Security 14) popped up a window to start in Safe Mode to fix the problem. I know how to start in Safe Mode but don't know what to do once I'm in there. Any help will be appreciated.

I am planning on making this project myself but first I have one question. Here is the project I will be making:
http://siliconrepublic.blogspot.com.au/2011/02/arduino-based-pc-ambient-lighting.html

It says I need a 12V DC supply for powering the breadboard. When searching up for 12V DC supplies, I only get power supply's that plug into the wrong wall socket (I live in Australia).
Do I need to get something like the article suggests:
http://www.amazon.com/Garmin-AC-Veh...1KZ6/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1297231222&sr=8-2

Or can I get something such as this:
http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/DC-12V-1...?pt=AU_Laptop_Accessories&hash=item336678ae52
If the first option is the only possibility, how do I get the plug to go into my wall socket?
Also, how do I get the other end plugged into the breadboard when the product just has a single plug on the end?

Answer:What type of power adapter do I need?

You can use the Ebay adaptor, the easiest way to get 2 wires is to get a socket that fits the plug, like this one :- http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/5-5-x-2-...05?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_15&hash=item4167b5b34d and solder 2 wires to that socket.

The circuit at your link uses a 2 wire plug into the breadboard, you would have to get a similar plug OR you could push bare wires into the breadboard.

OR you could cut the plug off to reveal the 2 wires but they will probably be quite thin and may not connect well if pushed into the breadboard holes.

The rear panel says 12V 3.0A DC power supply, but I can't find any of this type, I've tried Maplin, play.com etc and all they suggest is 300mA, now I thought 3.0 A was 3000mA?

Hi!

Awhile ago, I started getting this error message when I started up my computer (after the initial Dell screen). It stated:

The AC adapter type cannot be determined. This will prevent optimal system performance.

Strike the F3 key (before the F1 or F2 key) if you do not want to see power warning messages again.

Strike the F1 key to continue, F2 to run the set up utility.

-----

I ignored this problem for awhile by just hitting F1. However, within the last month, it has gotten worse. Instead of this error message coming up when I started my computer - after the initial Dell screen, nothing would come up except a little flashing line in the top left hand corner of the screen, and the computer would not start up passed that. I proceeded to fiddle with the plug that I plug into my laptop from adapter. I would push it harder into the laptop and/or twist it in after I hit the start up button, waiting to see if, after the initial Dell screen, I could get the error message to come up again so I could hit F1 so my computer would actually start up. I really don't know if any of that helped, but I figure if it was the adapter, then I should try something like that. I even blew it the plug and into the socket in the laptop tonight. However, tonight, I almost could not get the computer to start up all the way - I kept getting the screen with the little blinking line after the initial Dell screen and no error message. Eventually, after trying several times, I did get the error ... Read more

So.. I see this problem has been posted about before, so I just wanna know what my options are.
This problem actually popped up on me a few months ago, but I was able to remove and insert the power cord a few times and the message would go away and I would be able to charge my battery. But as a month or two passed, it became more finicky, and I had to jiggle with it a little more, but still, I was able to charge my battery and use my laptop wire-free.
Now today, I've been trying all day, and cannot for the life of me get the battery to charge. I get the following message when I plug the wire in.
"The AC power adapter type cannot be determined. Your system will operate slower and the battery will not charge. Please connect a Dell 65W AC adapter or higher for best system operation."
Also, I think its worth nothing that a lot of people mention that this error message comes up while they are booting their Laptops, mine only comes up once Vista is loaded and I attempt to reinsert the cord.
So, I have tried another Dell charger, a 90W one, and the same problem does occur (My original is a 65W). I am planning on getting a different battery tomorrow to see if it is the battery, as this ones usable life was getting quite low, down to barely a half hour per full charge. My warranty, although I'm not sure of the specifics, was not expired when this problem first came up, but is now expired by I would say 2 months at the most.
Oh, I have a M1330, and I have gotten... Read more

Answer:AC Power Adapter Type Cannot Be Determined

At a minimum, the power jack on the mainboard needs to be replaced - if that doesn't fix it or a competent repair shop tells you it won't, you'll need to replace the system board.

Dell Inspiron 5755 with a 17" display, running windows 10 and the latest BIOS version from Dell(as of 3/2/2017). AC adapter power supply is a 45W, 19.5V, 2.31A, Dell power supply. It works fine and is not damaged, (lite is lit on the brick and proper voltage out verified by using a VOM). When running on battery for a while and the battery low window pops up, I plug in the power supply and immediately get a message "The AC adapter power type cannot be determined. Your system will operate slower and battery will not charge". I ordered and tried another Dell 45W power supply. Same issue. I right clicked the battery icon in the system tray to display the Dell Power Manager. It says my battery is fine, 100% normal. As I unplug and plug in the power supply while the Dell Power Manager is up, I can see the word "charging" displayed in the management window for a bit, but then it disappears. The battery Icon itself shows that the power supply is plugged in as it displays a male electrical plug. If I remove the battery the laptop powers up fine. The BIOS in this machine does not display the charging device information, just that the battery is 100% normal. While in BIOS I hit the F9 key to reset basic bios functions to no avail. I also tried uninstalling the AC adapter and ACPI- compliant control method battery and re-booting to no avail. I can get the original power supply to charge a low battery by continuously unplugging and plugging back in the connector t... Read more

Answer:AC Power Adapter type cannot be determined

Since you've tried a new Dell adapter to no effect, next suspect is the DC jack -- replace this part:

If that doesn't solve the problem, it's the mainboard that's bad.

Hi everybody... my step daughter is having a problem with her dell precision m6300 laptop. Whenever she turns on her laptop, she gets the above message. The laptop will not go past this screen without the current plugged in. I also cannot access the bios menu or any setup menu or the desktop. It's just stuck on this one screen. I'm thinking it could just need a new charger but I'm not sure, any help would be appreciated.

I'm having trouble finding an adapter for my X1 Carbon M.2 SSD. The laptop is fried, but I'm hoping to get some of the files out of the SSD. The model number is Intel SSDSCMMW240A3L and I've found that it's a "B Key" 6 pin connector, but it seems like around the pins is different (less space alloted between the 6 and the next 20 pins). So standard M.2 adapters won't work Is anyone aware of any type of external adapters that I can plug this unit into? They can be Sata, USB, PCIE, doesn't matter. Thanks

I am getting this error message. My battery is not charging. And it is clocking my cpu speed to 0.5 GHz. I heard that there is a pin in the DC jack that tells a chip on the computer to tell the computer that the AC adapter is not suitable (whether damage or low wattage). I'm wondering if there is a way to disable the chip and just use it at full speed, I don't really need a battery because I'm mainly on AC use anyways.

Answer:The wattage and type of the AC adapter cannot be determined

Mine will do that if the plug is not all the way in. It has happened to me twice now and I would have thought it would take more than 1/16th of an inch to cause the situation.
Sorry I don't know of a way to bypass this check.

Hello. Let me start by saying that I'm not all that knowledgable about graphic cards, graphic drivers, and my current issue. I bought this PC roughly 2 years ago and customized it, so it's i7-4700MQ 2.4GHz, 16GB DDR3, 1TB HDD, AND it's suppose to have 2Gb Nvidia GeForce GT 740M dedicated graphics. I just recently started getting into PC gaming (i.e. Steam; Rocket League, H1Z1, etc). I've only had seldom issues playing rocket league, but the problems arose to when I tried playing H1Z1. It was very slow and my fps weren't high either (even on low/medium setting). I started doing some research about why that would happen and it has to do with the graphics, so I tried checking out the graphics on my PC, but all I could find was the intel HD graphics info and control panel. I've read information that sometimes there could be two graphics in a PC so it either uses one or the other, but I can't seem to detect the nvidia hardware through the driver nor find any control panel. It says processor graphics in use is intel HD graphics 4600. I believe this laptop would've had the graphics incorporated with the motherboard or something so it would not be replaceable or removeable, but I don't seem to have it at all? My PC even has a little Nvidia GeForce sticker logo on it under where the intel inside core i7 sticker is next to the fingerprint reader. I currently have windows 10. Does anyone know what the issue is or was I just ripped by HP or something? ... hi xerxespunk,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

Please try changing the BIOS setting for the video back to Optimus or Switchable.
The UMA setting will disable the second video card and will only allow the use of the ONboard/Proc based INTEL HD.

Change that and try reinstalling the NVIDIA Driver again.

Letmen know your findings

Ok, I have read through these forums, and others, and have been unable to resolve this issue after trying like a million things. Here's my issue:
This is on a Dell Inspiron N4030 running Windows 8 Pro with Bios Revision A07.
On boot-up I get this message:
"The AC power adapter wattage and type cannot be determined.
The battery may not charge.
The system will adjust the performance to match the power available.
Please connect a Dell 65W AC adapter or greater for the best system performance.
Strike the F3 key (before F1 or F2 key) if you do not want to see this power warning message again.
Strike the F1 key to continue, F2 to run the setup utility."

If I strike F2 and go into the bios it says "AC adapter type unknown"
If I strike F1 to continue boot-up it boots into windows and then the battery indicator shows "Plugged in, Not charging"

In attempting to fix this issue I have:

1. Replaced the battery.
2. Replaced the motherboard
3. Replaced the Power Board
4. Swapped out the adapter with several other Dell adapters we have in the house (we have 6 Dell laptops). Adapter revisions used are A00, A01, and A02.
5. Did the whole rigamarole here: http://jeffreypalermo.com/blog/plugged-in-not-charging-windows-7-solution/
6. Tried various combinations of plugging/unplugging at different intervals and at different speeds that I have read on multiple sites.
7. Reset the Bios by disconnecting the battery and AC adapter and the hold... Read more

Hello! I've been around here for a sometimes but never registered as a users because I find all the solution I needed, but I have one follow problems that I can't solve and I need sevenforum's help!

I recently bought Sapphire Radeon HD 6770 and comparing game performance with my old graphic card Nvidia 9800 GT, I don't see much of a difference. According to my friend who builds computer, he said it's suppose to be superior differences between those 2 graphic cards. I also tried to sign up for BETA profile for Blizzard game series and apparently it kept detecting the Radeon HD 4200, which is my integrated card. Anyways, my question is, how can I change my Adapter Type? I posted a picture of it so you guys can see what's my problem is. I have the latest Catalyst Control Panel from the sites sticky thread .

I don't know how to check my computer stuff, so here's my computer on website: HP - Pavilion Desktop / AMD Athlon™ II Processor / 4GB Memory / 750GB Hard Drive - p6654y

My english is my second language so if you can't understand what I said I'll be glad to explain again lol. Rough draft xD.

I've already tried Driver Sweeper, failed on me .

I don't know what BIOS means either lol.

If my integrated graphic card is disabled for good, I think I might get to see my 6770's full performance. Also tried overclocking, didn't helped at all :[. I still think it's my integrated card's problem, but hey I could be wrong. I'm terrible at computers .

Thanks.

Answer:Changing a video card adapter type help.

Assuming HP didn't hide the option in the bios (and I wouldn't put it past them), have a good look around likely in the Advanced section under Chipset. If it is don't disable it quite yet, first boot back to Windows and uninstall the AMD driver through Programs and Features using the Catalyst Install Manager. Then restart and go into the bios and disable, and re-install the AMD driver using the latest,

Latest AMD Catalyst Video Driver for Windows 7

unless that is the one you already have.

P.S. What you're seeing shouldn't happen, but with the way HP likes to hide/disable/monkey around in general with bios settings I'm not really surprised that it did. When it works properly (the AMD onboard video with an AMD video card) you can actually use both at the same time for running up to 4 (or 5 depending on video card) monitors at a time.

I have a Yoga Pro 3 I purchased here in the US a couple of months ago. This summer I'll be moving to Moldova (eastern Europe) with the Peace Corps and plan to take my Yoga with me. Moldova has 220-240V Type C power outlets. Ideally, I'd like to purchase a power adapter for my Yoga that is already configured with a Type C plug. The US Lenovo customer service staff can't seem to tell me if I can buy one. I know Germany also uses Type C but I don't see the option to buy the 40W power adapter on their site. The below adapter is available on the UK site but I'm not sure UK adapters are compatible with Type C outlets:http://shop.lenovo.com/SEUILibrary/controller/e/gbweb/LenovoPortal/en_GB/catalog.workflow:item.detai... Does anyone out there who travels to Europe or owns a Yoga Pro 3 in Europe have any tips on buying a native adapter? If I need to use a convertor I will... I'm just trying to cut down on the accessories I have to carry with me.

The end of the M$ note says "The hardware and software on the system, the device or adapter, or cable does not support the DisplayPort /DockPort or MHL alternate modes." Now since a regular USB port works (2.0 even) for DisplayPort that leaves MHL. Maybe you need one of these.

My Dell Inspiron 6400 HDD damaged without any warning last week and cannot be repaired, so i had to replace it with another HDD. Everything works fine after that except that when i plugged in my AC adapter, the power warning message “The AC power adapter type cannot be determined. Your system will operate slower and the battery will not charge. Please connect a Dell 65W AC adapter or higher for best system operation" will appear, and my battery will not charge.

Previously this power warning message will occur only when i didn't plug in properly and it worked fine after i replug the adapter. Since i changed my HDD, this warning message appears everytime i turn on my laptop. I tried updating the BIOS but it doesn't help, the problem is still there. I suspect that my AC adapter is damaged but when i tried it with another Inspiron 6400, it worked fine without the warning message appearing, that shows that there isn't any problem with my AC adapter..

Any solutions for this? I hope i don't have to change the motherboard or whatsoever, because my laptop is out of warranty. Is it something to do with the configuration? - since i formatted my computer and reinstalled everything..

thanks heaps for any comments!

Answer:Power adapter type cannot be determined after replacing new HDD

You may have a damaged DC jack in the laptop if the adapter works on another laptop, which would go with you replugging the power adapter to clear the error in the past. Its not uncommon for the jacks to break from the motherboard and require re-soldering, in some cases the jacks crack or break and need to replaced. To get at the jack you will need to have the laptop completely disassembled.

P.S. 'spoiled' isn't not the correct term to use with failed electronics.

Is there a way for a Windows 10 firewall rule to determine what network adapter is in use? Can it differentiate between Wi-Fi, TAP, Ethernet, etc.?
Poking around Windows Firewall for the first time, I don't see any settings related to network adapter, but I wonder if the "local IP address" settings could be useful. Would the different adapters show up as different local IP addresses, in some way that is consistent enough to make a rule out of it?

The Spectre x2 12 detachable is capable of charging through the two Type-C USB ports. The HP Type-C USB adapter charges using these two ports. However, no third party Type-C USB chargers (even with Power Delivery specifications) will charge this device. Meaning, there is no benefit to charging via Type-C since this device can only use the HP adapter charger. Another HP device that charges via Type-C USB, the Spectre 13.3 (HP Spectre 13-v151nr), received a BIOS update (F.26 Rev.A; sp77130.exe) in August that allows charging through third party Type C-USB chargers like Google and Apple chargers (see below in yellow;"- Expands support for the USB Type-C adaptor."). I am requesting a similar Type-C charging adapter BIOS update for the HP Spectre x2 - 12-a008nr, to remove the limitation described above. Not allowing to be charged through Type C chargers manufactured by Google and Apple is absurd. If you would please, use the Power Delivery specifications that these reputable vendors use, and that you also used for the 13.3, and allow this device to truly be fantastic. Hello, from few days a have problem with my AC power adapter. My system says: "The AC power adapter type cannot be determined... lalalala" when my Windows says Plugged in, not charging. CPU performance does not exceed 0,78GHz.I tried to uninstall the drivers - nothing.
I tried update my BIOS - nothing.
Replace AC - nothing
Exclude malfunctioning AC adapter.
Sometimes after a few connections begins to charge my battery, and it is a day where you do not try to charge.
But I found a solution, which is always charge my battery.
when i turn off the system, and then pulled out the battery. I push the button 'power on' for 10 seconds. And then I put back the battery and plug the charger. I turn on the system and everything works.
But once again, disconnect and plug the charger that stops charging

Where is the problem?

Hi WLODZIAK,
Are you using an original Dell OEM Adapter? When you plug in the adapter to the system, does the adapter stay firm or does it fall off easily? Is the adapter frayed? Is there any damage on the system?
Restart the system and press f2 key to enter BIOS - check the adapter status in BIOS with and without the adapter plugged in. Also, wiggle the adapter cable at the end and see if the status changes in BIOS at any point. Check the battery health in BIOS (if applicable).
Restart the system and press f12 key on startup - choose diagnostics. Let it run the diags and if you encounter any errors - make a note of the complete error and report the same to us.These are onboard diagnostics and they might possible pick some error if the hardware is not functional.
Since you have replaced the adapter, if the battery has good health, then then next part to be replaced would be the dc port - you would need this part - http://bit.ly/2d2vuCc
If nothing works, the motherboard might be at fault.
If the system is under warranty, Please click my DELL-username and write me a private conversation with the service tag and your contact details(Name, Phone#, Address and Email). If there is no warranty, then you could contact our team to get a quote for a paid service call - http://dell.to/1vnT6CQ

My Dell XPS 13 has recently been unable to recognize my AC adapter. I've tried several outlets and chargers, but to no avail. Once I plug the charger into the laptop, the charging light on my Dell lights up for a second but turns off immediately after.
I am unable to get past the Dell SupportAssist and it seems to be an endless loop that won't allow me into my desktop.
Would I be able to bypass the "AC Adapter Unknown" error by using Google's Pixel 2 charger? It would allow me to charge through Dell's USB-C port instead. Has anyone tried this method or has solved the issue in any other way?
Thanks for any help at all!

Hi,
I'm using an XPS 13 9350, and 'm currently having an issue whereby when I start up my laptop I'm receiving the error message.
"AC power adapter and type cannot be determined, the battery may mot charge, the system will adjust the performance to match the power available"
The laptop sticks at 1% and wont charge. Although the light is still on the adapter, the light does not appear at the front of the laptop where it would usually indicate charging, apart from occasionally brief moments before the laptop boots following pressing the on button.
I have forced the latest BIOS update past the 10% battery block, however this has not helped.
I've had the laptop and adapter roughly a year.
Any assistance would be much appreciated.

Answer:Dell XPS 13 9350 - AC power adapter and type could not be determined

If "roughly" is less than a year, call Dell for warranty repair.
If it's over a year, first thing to try is a new OEM Dell AC adapter -- most computer shops should have one you can try. If that fixes it, replace the AC adapter. If not, replace the DC power jack:
www.newegg.com/.../Product.aspx
And if that doesn't solve it, it's the charge circuit itself that's bad -- replace the mainboard.

i feel so stupid asking this but ive tried for an hour to find a way to bring up a blank sheet on the screen so i can type a simple letter. i cant figure it out. i bought this HP Pavilion g6 new 3 years ago but bought an apple ipad and iphone at the same time and quickly grew accustomed to Apple so i nver really used this laptop. now i have a need to type a few letters on it but dont know how to bring up the program it has on it. Surely it has a program on it type a letter? Doesnt every laptop come with some basics? can someone help me? UPDATE....i found the search box, typed 'word' and wordpad came up. looks like what i need. not sure why an icon is not on my desktop for this. is this the easiest way to get to the letter typing? if theres a better way or a better program or a way to get an icon on my desktop, please advise. thank you in advanceJoe

I am in the progress of making a digital photo album but was wondering if there is a file type that can handle images, videos, and music all in one simple file.
Imagine a .pdf file that handles music and videos that is not limited like .pdfs. It is really hard to explain. This software here is pretty close but not quite there. http://www.3dissue.com/ I want more options than that software though. It seems like I will have to make a new file type.

To find the type of motherboard, I've gone through the System Information and apparently the "System Model" is supposed to be the motherboard. But all mine shows is "Inspiron 660." I've read that Dell, which is what I have, renames them. My concern involves that KB3133977 Windows update with Asus motherboards. I do my updates manually and have unchecked this update, so I assume I'm safe for now. But would still like to know if I even have an Asus motherboard.

Thanks!!

My computer: Dell Inspiron 660, Win7, 64 bit. (Purchased new in 2013, if that makes any difference.)

Answer:How can I find the type of motherboard I have?

If you go to Dell's support and download site and input your service tag number, it will show you your exact model you have. From there you find your exact system specs which will include your specific mobo.

Hi all

I want to install a second hard drive into my spare drive bay.

However, upon looking online for a hard drive there appears to be more than one type - IDE, ATA etc.

Is there any small piece of software that can tell me? Unfortunately, my PC came from PC world and I did not receive any kind of manual.

For information I have a Packard Bell I-Media 5051 pc, 512RAM, 40GB HD, Intel Celeron 1.8GHZ processor.

Any help would be appreciated.

Answer:How Do I Find Out Which Type Of Hardrive I Have?

Good Morning:
I found this Packard Bell italian page with your computer's info:

http://www.packardbell.it/products/node1601.asp?partNumber=PB13209906

As you can see, your unit comes with a 160 gb hard drive. IDE and ATA will function the same. Take a look:

http://www.thepc.info/ide-scsi.html

I don't know if you need more than 160 gb, unless you are doing some serious heave multimedia storage. Good Luck!

Normally when you insert a pccard into the slot you should feel a slight resistance at the end. After that the ejection pin pops out. also a card should fit in there completely. Now if i test a working pccard (32 bits gold connector) in this r500, it can not fit it in there completely. Also there is no resistance or connection. It will slide in loosely and does not connect. The last centimeter of the card will not fit in the adapter. No new device is found. I tested this in linux as well in windows7. I conclude the physical connection between the card and the adapter is not there. So perhaps this is a hardware flaw ? Or perhaps i am missing something obvious.if i look closely into the slot, i can see there is a metal pin at the left side deep inside the slot, wich blocks access to the connection pins. It prevents my cards from beeing inserted completely. * I wonder if anyone has found this same problem.* also has anyone found a normal userguide for his laptop ? (r500 2714) i can only find the Hardware maintenance and safetey manuals. Thanks for your responses.

Answer:r500 2714 pcmcia/cardbus type i/ii adapter does not work.

Aha, the metal pin blocking access is released when the grey releasebutton is in the 'ejected' state. Now i can fit the pccard type in there. (32 bit pcmcia) These have a gold plated connector on the card and has the word pccard on it.the old style 16 bit cards dont seem to fit. Maybe this info will help other users. Still i would like to see a r500 usermanual in wich i cold have read this * Does anyone know where to find the usermanual ? regards

Hi, It's been a couple of weeks since I bought my Thinkpad E570 (Product SKU 20H5CTO1WW). Since I live in Greece and the laptop is on its way to me (I had it delivered to a friend of mine in UK), I'd like to know what kind of ac adapter the laptop is equipped with. If it's universal (110/220V) then I suppose an adaptor from type G to type F plug would suffice, otherwise I will probably need a new ac adapter. So, can anyone help me with my question? I forgot to ask my friend about it, I just realized about the different power plugs today. Regards,Vas

Answer:Thinkpad E570 ac adapter type (bought from Lenovo e-shop)

Welcome to the forum.

> If it's universal (110/220V) then I suppose an adaptor from type G to type F plug would suffice

ThinkPad AC chargers are designed to work with input voltages from 110VAC to 240VAC so the charger that's shipped with your E570 will be just fine. If your new E570 was bought in the UK then yes, you'll need a G to F adapter to fit local power outlets.

Sometimes the message says connect a Dell 45w adapter or higher. That is what I use. It's the original adapter. I've also received a message to use a 35w adapter. Sometimes it tells me to press F1 if I want to continue anyway.
Any suggestions?

Answer:Inspiron 7352 laptop AC power adapter type cannot be determined

First thing to try is a new OEM Dell AC adapter. If that doesn't solve the problem, replace the DC power jack:
www.parts-people.com/index.php
And if that doesn't solve the problem, replace the mainboard.

I am putting together a new machine built arround XP Pro and will be upgrading to 7 in about another year or two. My main use of the machine I will use Word, Excell and Power Point. I will also be using a programme called BaseStation nearly 24/7 which is a graphical display, also I watch a lot of online catch up TV, HD videos and maybe online film streaming in the future.I feel I don't need a 1GB GDDR5 PCI-Express card and only need a 512MB GDDR X. the memory type I will have will be DDR III with a I7 930 CPU.Am I correct thinking a 512MB will be plenty or should I go for a 1GB GDDR5 PCI-Express card please

I am in the process of designing a site which will be mainly graphics/photos of a city. There will be an index of "thumbnails" (text page) pointing to each graphic of say 4kb or 5kb.On this same (text page) will be an index of bigger graphics - up to 1mb each, plus a link to a page with all the "thumbnails" as one download. This will give viewers a choice of how much time they have to (waste) spend on line. One thumbnail 5kb or page of thumbnails 500kb or one full size photo 1mb.What is the best format (jpeg/gif etc) for thumbnails and is it different for the big graphics?Do you think my choice of size is about right or should the thumbnails and/or large photo should be smaller?I know a lot of people still use the dialup so small is beautiful.

Answer:What type of graphics to use.

Yes, 1Mb is far far too big for a web graphic and will take ages to load, especially on 56K dialup by which time your visitors will probably have gone elsewhere.

MS seem to want to bury Clear Type in the latest version. It's there if you search for it or run cttune.exe. However, I don't see Clear Type mentioned under Settings or the Control Panel. How are inexperienced users expected to know about Clear Type settings?

Windows XP shows OGG files at all my AVI's and with the Windows Media Player logo on them rather than usual VLC selection from install.

I noted that the AVI file type is no longer available in the file type list from Control Panel. I have tried to add that file type back in manually but it does not take the input. There are only so many ways you can type and save something in there.

How can this happen with no large change in system and how can I fix it?

Will simply an "open with" command and select VLC plus selecting open all of these type with the program? I just ran across that bit of repair instruction.

The point is AVI is not on the list and I don't know where it went. My VLC works fine and the file opens for viewing as normal. And all of the other file types are on that list in Control Panel undisturbed.

Answer:Windows XP cannot find the AVI file type

That's odd. Not sure what could cause that. Have you recently installed/uninstalled any new Audio/Video software? I've had Multimedia programs do all kinds of weird, unfriendly things to my computers . . . if you have, do a system restore from before you installed/uninstalled said software and see if that corrects the issue (if you have system restore running, that is - for it to be on is the default setting, and if you have never changed setting it should be running).

Yes, just using an "open with" command and choosing VLC player should work ok.

You might consider installing a Codec pack to see if that restores the AVI functionality . . . I've used K-lite before and found it useful:

http://majorgeeks.com/K-Lite_Codec_Pack_Basic_d5228.html

You can then also try renaming the extensions on your affected video files - but keep a copy of them before you do that.

I have a 15" Lenovo Edge and need to replace the hardware for my ALT key, which broke. Does anybody know where I can order this from and what model number to use? I'm having a hard time figuring this one out. Thanks in advance!

Answer:Need to replace a key and cannot find type for purchase

Lenovo just sells the complete keyboard. You can find the FRU for the keyboard at www.lenovo.com/support. Put in the 4 digit model type in the quick path box on the right side of the page and then navigate for parts and find the system part list. You should be able to find the Keyboard FRU# and can order that through service. This has come up with various systems - you can search the forum for "buy single key" and look through the discussion for various companies that other customers have suggested as sources. Officially, Lenovo can't recommend any 3rd party companies.

Here is a link to a discussion where 2 different sources were mentioned...

Trying to look up my warranty, can't find the machine type anywhere in my G505, can anyone help me?

Mod's Edit: System model added to front of Subject line to improve visibility / clarity.

Answer:G505 - Where to find machine type?

Welcome to the Lenovo Community !

I'm not an owner of your model, but usually the machine type is listed on the first page of the BIOS Setup screen and on a label on the bottom of the laptop. Page #23 of your model's User Guide will explain how to enter the BIOS Setup. For your reference, here is a link to that guide........

http://www.lenovo.com/shop/americas/content/user_guides/g410_g510_ug_en.pdf

An alternative is to use the link I have listed below to look up your warranty information. Just enter the Serial Number of your laptop into the Serial Number box on that webpage. The Serial Number information will be listed on the bottom of your laptop and it will be shown on the first page of the BIOS Setup screen.

Hi,

I just bought a Netgear WG511, and I was having trouble getting it installed on my laptop in both Linux & Windows. Took it back to the shop, where they said it's because my laptop had a 16bit PCMCIA bus, and the card required a 32bit bus.

Without having to call the technical support (it's a big pain to do so), I was wondering if there is a program that can test what bus it has. A preliminary search on google turned up nada.
