sound crackling on right speaker

Question: sound crackling on right speaker

Hi, I have a Dell pc with the original sound card (crystal pnp). I have run the troubleshooter on the help under start. No conflicts with anything and it has the latest updated drivers.

Does anyone know of any other way to troubleshoot this to see if the sound card is defective? The speakers are not the problem because they are new and i tested them on another source.

Thanks for any help anyone can advice.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: sound crackling on right speaker

One thing you might try : Go Start > Run > type DXDIAG and then select Audio from the top of the interface that appears. And then try adjusting the Hardware Acceleration slider up / down.

Hi.I purchased x1 yoga about a week ago. Since the day after the first use, I have been having a problem with the left speaker which gives a crackling sound with higher than about 70 % of the volume. The volume where crackling starts varies depending on the source of the sound (talk show, music, whatever). I updated all the softwares and drivers with the latest versions on windows 10 and the problem doesn't seem to be resolved. Can somebody help me out with this?

Hello

I have bought a new Toshiba laptop yesterday and started using from today afternoon but since then I am experiencing a crackling noise from my right speaker I want to whether there is any problem or it?s because of the moisture.

Answer:Crackling sound from new Satellite L500-1XC right speaker

It is not easy to say what is wrong there but if you have this crackling sound permanently maybe is there some serious problem with the speaker.
Try to contact your local dealer as soon as possible and ask for replacement. In my opinion he should take the notebook back and give you new product.

I have a problem with my speakers, anytime i go to use media player, all i hear is a crackling sound from them, any ideas.

Answer:Speaker crackling sound with media player on Equium

Hi

Does the crackling sound appear since a first day?
Does it happen if you play CD's or watch movies?
Maybe some codex are missing.

Did you try to update the sound driver? If not so check it.

However, I have also read that sometimes a new OS installation could solve such issues.
I don't know why but possibly some files on the HDD could be damage.

Hello, i have just bought this p100-192 laptop. The speakers seem to muffle ( especially whenever there is an incoming message in MSN )
Does anyone know why and a solution to it ????

Answer:Satellite P100-192: crackling sound coming from speaker when using MSN

Hi

I have investigated in this forum for some answers and it seems that the sound driver update will solve this issue.
There is an updated Sound Driver (V3.11.0.51) available which solve this crackling sound.

But before installing the updated sound driver at least the BIOS version 2.10 or higher should be installed on the notebook.
Be careful. You have to use the right BIOS and right BIOS update procedure!

Hi,I have a HP-Pavilion m7-1015dx. It's 5 yrs old. My speakers were working just fine when suddenly I saw that the beats audio left speaker suddenly started crackling. I then checked and I found out that when I increased the bass in the beats audio control panel, the crackling increased. I tried troubleshooting and disabling and enabling the audio driver but nothing happened. What should I do?P.S. The right speaker is working just fine.

Hello Sorry If this is in the wrong place but I couldn't find a board for IdeaPad 700. I've had this laptop for a decent while (almost a year) and although it hasn't really bothered me much in the past, it's really starting to bother me now as I'm now usually in an area with more people (libraries, lecture theatres etc.). Everytime I start up my laptop, I can hear a constant crackling sound (which would continue until I shut down the laptop but would continue again right as I turned it back on) and sometimes a beep or two but mainly from underneath my laptop where the fans are located or where my right speakers are located. I'm not sure if it is a sound card issue or a driver issue as I don't hear anything like that through my headphones and the sound is perfect, however, the crackling noise still continues on my laptop itself. When I play music or watch any video through my speakers, the sound from the left speaker seems fine but the sound from the right speakers sometimes becomes distorted and you can hear like a quiet mumbling sound of the music or video underneath. I've also noticed that when I am using my scroll wheel on my mouse or scrolling using my touch pad, the crackling gets louder but as soon as I stop scrolling, it goes back to its "normal" crackling sound. I'm not sure if this is enough information but I really have no other idea of how to accurately describe the sound. I've also tried changing driver versions but it did not seem to work or do anything... Read more

Answer:Lenovo IdeaPad 700-15ISK crackling sound (speaker?)

Hi VinceZent ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

Try booting on the BIOS using the Novo key (item6 page6) to turn on and press a bit on the scrolling on the touchpad.
Check if same sound appears booting on another live media is available.

Reviewing the placement of the touchpad to the systemfan and right speakers , I think mechanically is an issue with the fan. Pressure can be done by the touchpad passing it to the fan and underlying structure including the speakers as ,maybe just a cable on the wrong place since expected that it would be silent on this model.

You don't have to change on the softwares but I would encourage you giving technical support a call for in warranty service and option that you can decide on.

Hope this help answer your query.
Update us how things go.

Regards

Last week, I purchased a Dell Precision 5510 with Windows 7 and the audio was working fine, but on Saturday night I was watching a video on Netflix when the right-side speaker started to crackle. I followed the instructions on a number of tutorials including reinstalling the RealTek audio drivers and switching to the windows default drivers, but none of these things have gotten rid of the crackling.
Of note, the crackling only starts when the audio is raised somewhere around the 50% capacity mark or beyond, but it is a constant and persistent annoyance at that point.  I am of the belief that this is a hardware issue at this point, but any insight others could provide before I contact Dell Support would be appreciated.

Answer:Dell Precision 5510 Crackling Sound from Right-side Speaker

Hi waxenwings,Thanks for posting.Does this exist using external speakers or just the internal ones?  Have you tried headphones? In some cases, this may be caused by a conflict with SRS audio enhancement package and Adobe Flash. This has been escalated.Possible solutions include uninstall the SRS Audio package from Add\Remove Programs-Programs and Features. Reboot and test the system. Update Adobe Flash. Reinstall the SRS Audio package from Drivers and Downloads from support.dell.com and test again. If none of that's working, then contact Tech Support for additional troubleshooting.

Hi,
I bought a new Dell Inspiron 5559 i7 6th gen Laptop on 1st November, I faced the distorting and crackling issue in the beginning but i checked the solutions here and switched the realtek driver to the windows default driver and it was working well until today. I have tested my dell speakers on various test videos available online and the general speaker configure option of windows, laptops right speaker is working good but left produces a crackling noise at high pitch sound. Please tell me what should i do? I have done multiple reinstalls of the driver but nothing worked. I have decided that its a hardware fault, just trying my luck here.

Answer:Inspiron 15 5559 i7 6th gen, left speaker sound crackling on high levels

Hi virengupta13,Thanks for posting. If the noise is only coming through one of the speakers and it is not there when you listen through headphones, then the speaker probably needs to be replaced. If you are still under warranty you can contact Tech Support, but before you do remove all media players except Windows Media Player, or else you will be denied warranty service.

Question: Speaker Crackling

Hello,

My laptop speaker makes crackling sound when I play videos through browser and in vlc player too. And its only from one speaker(Left). Is this purely a hardware problem or could be because of software/driver issues ?

Answer:Speaker Crackling

Now that you're facing problems with only one speaker, its most probably a hardware problem.
If I ever face any problem like this, the first thing I'd do is boot up my laptop using a live linux cd/usb and try playing something.
Try it. If its plays fine, update your sound driver and codec pack

This ones got me currently stumped. When playing vid files and mp3's, I'm getting a harsh crackling sound out of my left speaker. This occurs in Media Center, WMP and VLC.

It's not my speakers or amp because Vista / DVD / 360 is perfectly fine.

I have tried installing audio drivers WITH and WITHOUT compatibility mode with no difference. I have installed / uninstalled Vista Codec Package with no difference. I swore at it with no difference

On my Old PC, I had no crackling problems in 7. With my new mobo I do. I have also installed the Asus mobo chipset drivers under compatability mode (wouldn't work otherwise)

So basically I've temporarily run out of ideas, however I'm leaning to a mobo chipset issue. Any ideas?

Purchased a factory refurbished Spectre earlier in the week, and have been troubleshooting this problem every day since.   There is a buzzing/crackling sound that comes from the speakers on resume from sleep, before/during/after audio playback, adjusting the volume using the keypad keys, as well as disabling/enabling the playback device in the device manager. Measures taken:-Refresh OS-Update BIOS-Remove/Re-Install/Roll back drivers (from Support Center, as well as Intel & Realtek directly)-Adjust/Disable/Uninstall B&O controls I have tried several combinations of drivers and settings. The only thing that eliminates the noise is disabling/uninstalling the playback device/realtek driver. Playback is clear and without issue when using bluetooth speaker or usb audio interface. I have scoured the forums, and found several threads with similar issues across different iterations of the same model.I have tried every suggestion posted in those threads with no luck. I knew I was taking a chance with buying refurbished, but this appears to be an ongoing issue that has yet to be resolved. I don't want to give up on it just yet, but am not feeling optimistic. I would like to see if there are any solutions before exchanging it, because it works great otherwise. A couple threads scoured (links/rabbit holes explored, solutions attempted):1, 2

Hi guys hoping you can help me here. I have a repair job for a Samsung RV510 laptop. The left speaker suddenly started to crackle(vibrate noise) loudly all of a sudden. I uninstalled and reinstalled the Realtek drivers and i've installed new sound speakers in the laptop...still i've got this problem. At the moment i've giving the laptop a full scan with Malwarebytes, Spybot and Antivirus(Avira). I've been into the sound settings on control panel and disabled all enhancements also. Can anyone out there HELP!! I'm running out of ideas for this problem. ANY help will be appreciated. The OS is windows 7.

Answer:Samsung Laptop Crackling speaker Help!!

Have still not resolved this problem, would appreciate any ideas though as to what it may be. I've come to the conclusion that it must be a motherboard connection problem with the speakers as the right speaker sound is fine. No virus' on it and have put in new speakers and changed drivers. Weirdest problem have'nt come across this one before

Hoping for some insight into my speaker issue.

My right laptop speaker stopped playing sound and started to crackle sporadically. When it does crackle its quite loud - I plug in headphones and the crackle continues through the right earpiece. Left speaker works fine (headphone as well.)

wondering if this software or hardware failure? The headphone matching the crackling makes me wonder.

My boyfriend formatted my computer and then put all the drivers back - but the sound driver didnt look right to me (was unfamiliar) even though Dell's website said it was correct. Crystal WDM Audio. I can't remember what it said before - but crystal doesn't seem familiar as i mentionned.
The following appears under device manager for Sound, video and game controllers:
audio codec
crystal WDM audio Codec
legacy Audio drivers
legacy video Capture devices
Medial control devices
Video codecs

(pentium 4 1.8ghz 512 MB of ram - windows XP professional 2002 service pack 3 )

Any thoughts on where to start (other than use the whole laptop as a 'noisy' paperweight) would be most helpful.

Thank you.

I received my laptop YESTERDAY. It is running the latest drivers: for Intel Graphics 530, v.20.19.15.4390; and for the audio, v.6.0.1.7737. The specs are as follows:

Processor
Intel Core i7-6700HQ
OS
Windows 10 Home 64 bit
Display
15.6" 4K Ultra HD (3840 x 2160) InfinityEdge touch
Video
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960M with 2GB GDDR5
Audio
Wave Systems Software
Memory
16GB (2x8GB) 2133MHz DDR4 Memory
Hard Drive
512 GB Mobility Solid State Drive

Every time I click the Wi-Fi button on the taskbar, the screen flickers and blacks out for two seconds. After that the cursor is placed to the center for unknown reason, and the Wi-Fi panel is not opened. Opening "Settings", and idling for two minutes produces the same result. Besides, the bubbles as in the 'Bubbles' screensaver appear on top of a green screen rather than the desktop screen.
Also, the speaker keeps crackling when any music is played, regardless of frequency. It is super annoying.

Would you help me figure out why I am hearing a crackling noise from speakers? Here's what I know about my circumstance

The noise is about 2 seconds long.
It occurs at 32 minutes after the hour, every hour
The noise comes from desktop speakers with the power on to the speakers but off to the computer.
It only occurs when My cell phone sits nearby a speaker turned on.
I'm also using a laptop nearby.
I think this has something to do with the cops talk to me about some internet activity.

What do you think? I think they got me bugged. If so, how can I stop it. I feel like I have no privacy

I recall hearing the identical sound a while back a few seconds prior to receiving a SMS text message.

Answer:bugged by speaker crackling in one hour intervals

that is purely & simply feedback from interference between mobile phone & speakers

The every hour bit, is because that is when your phone is sending a " I am here" message to the nearest cell tower to keep it on the network

I got my W530 about a month ago, so this (hopefully) isn't a case of old hardware. The upper left side of my keyboard has been making loud crackling / popping noises. It started the day after I got the laptop, and has been occurring every day since. It's coming from the area squarely over the fan, but when I took the keyboard off and looked, I didn't see any obstruction or apparent damage to the fan. I don't think it has anything to do with the speakers- the noise happens regardless of whether I've muted them or not. Thanks in advance.

A few days ago, my right speaker suddenly started producing this static/crackling noise.  First, I checked all my wire connections and muted the microphone/aux volume in the sound mixer with no effect.  Then I tested the speakers on my other computer and found that they worked perfectly (my speakers still function on my computer, albeit with the annoying static popping throughout).  I scanned for viruses and spyware, reinstalled all the drivers (sound blaster live 24 bit), and tried system restore all with no effect.  I think I've ruled out environmental factors such as wiring and interference from cell phones/monitors.Perhaps the most notable part was that the speaker only starts to make the noise when windows loads... and they work perfectly in safe mode.  I killed all unnecessary services/programs and still have the problem.  I also searched this site and read that a wireless router signal could disrupt the speakers, but my right speaker still spits out static with the wireless router powered down.  I'm crazy stuck... if anybody has any suggestions I'd really appreciate the help Speakers:  Logitech X-230OS:  XP

Recently on my laptop one of my built-in speakers has been freaking out on me a bit. Whenever I touch the laptop, or put some sort of pressure on the frame of it, my right speaker makes this weird buzzing/crackling sound. I mean, this could even happen when I'm resting my hand on it to type, click the mouse button, or even from touching the keyboard, like right now. Yesterday, it actually started making this high-pitched distorted shriek sound. It seriously felt like my computer was screaming at me.

Any ideas what could be causing these weird noises? Is something inside the laptop damaged bad? I've never heard of this before...

Answer:Speaker Making Crackling Sounds... Bad News?

Yes, there is something wrong with the speaker. Loose wire-broken connection-could be just about anything.
Only way to find out is to take it apart and check. And that ain't easy. Since you call yourself MusicNerd, I suppose sound is important to you.
I suggest taking it to a shop and have them look at it, unless, of course, you have the skills to fix it yourself.

I bought some Logitech Z506 surround speakers for my PC, but after hooking them up I found the front right speaker (the one with the thick black cord) was making a crackling/popping sound. So I took them back and got another set and the exact same speaker was again making a crackling/popping sound. I noticed that the only time it would make the this sound was when I played certain songs that had a very low bass beat, deep chord or certain timber to the singer's voice. Also, when there was no sound at all I could hear a distinct hiss in that speaker.

I thought it was odd that the exact same speaker would be bad in both sets I bought, so I was thinking perhaps it might be something else (a setting, or something). I took the second set back also, so right now I don't have any PC speakers, but before I buy another set I thought I would post here and see if I could get some help or advice so I can figure out what's going on.

Thanks

Answer:Trouble with right front speaker: crackling/popping sounds

Ive had this same thing happen to me before. Sometimes; it can be resolved by restarting the system; but if not; then you may have to uninstall the sound card etc. from the device manager; reboot; and let windows re-detect and reinstall the sound card and hopefully that will get rid of the crackling sound.

All of a sudden, my asus transformer's left speaker started to make an ugly buzzy and lound noise with any sound that is played. It might be relative that I got another weird error when both of my speakers and headphone jack did not produce any sounds. When I tried to test the sound, windows gave me "failed to play test tone".

It worthy of note that I clicked the compress drive option on my C drive a few days ago to save space, so it also might be related, or is it a hardware failure problem?

Thanks in advance.

Hi Everybody!

All of a sudden my speaker icon is missing from taskbar & sound is only coming through the LEFT speaker. The RIGHT speaker is still working but you can only hear SOME sound and it's very low, all the rest of the sound is going to the LEFT speaker now and the volume icon on the taskbar is gone now so I can't even check the settings there. This all happened out of nowhere! Everything had been working fine for a long time before this happened. I don't understand.

Is this some kind of malware problem rewriting the codes or something? I saw this could be the problem on previous posts. I am NOT knowledgeable with computers but I learn fast if you can walk me through the steps.

I have windows 7 professional on a 32 bit system.

The option "Show or hide volume (speaker) icon on the taskbar" in the Control Panel is grayed out and I cannot change the setting on it.

I've been looking thru past threads and I'm still not finding a solution that works for me.

Any suggestions would be very appreciated!!

Thanks so much!!!
:cool

It's a new Dell and it has been making crackling sound since I got it.
I spent an hour on the phone with a technician who restored the laptop with Windows 8.1 to an earlier point in time and it stopped crackling for the rest of the day, but the next day, the noise was back.
The worst are "ding" sounds, they have more crackle than ding. Video playback is bad but at least we can understand what is said. Youtube is bad. mp3 audio is bad. Crackle is there with earphones too.

Does it make the noise only when running on battery power or also when plugged into house current?

Dear readers,

I'm the owner of a toshiba l665D and there is a problem.
Every time i have to use something involving
sound it sounds rubbish.
The sound isn't played smoothly there are pauses and there is a big cracking
sound sometimes in it.

This is not because of the speakers, I have also tright it through the headphone tube.
Could this possilybe because of a damaged soundcard.

It's sound really rubbish and the laptop isn't even 2 years old yet.

What could it be?

Answer:Satellite L665D - sound isn't played smoothly - crackling sound

Hi

I think this is not related to faulty sound card but due to old iRST (Intel Rapid Storage Technology) driver.

I found an thread about very similar issue.
http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=60231

Update of the iRST (Intel Rapid Storage Technology Driver) to version V10.1.0.1008 or higher should solve this problem.

Hello, about 3 days ago i bought a sealed brand new HP OMEN 17-W03np which comes with Windows 10 Home (64-bit), i noticed there were some problems with the sound which have been a constant problem since day one. Before and after any sound plays there are these pops/crackling sounds that are noticable (and pretty irritating), the sound appears to play fine after it starts but in a few occasions the sound actually started breaking and there were random pauses while playing sound. There was also this one time the volume randomly went up and down on its own when pausing a sound (in this case it was a video) and then playing it again.Random pops/crackling have also happened while i was on my browser on web pages but there was no sound sources in the web page at all. I've attempted to use earphones while testing sound, and while using them the pops/crackling sound sometimes come out through the earphones, but sometimes they also come out through the notebooks built-in speakers despite the fact the sound is then played through the earphones (which i found pretty strange). This is my first experience with HP and i have to say i am feeling quite dissapointed, could this be a software problem or will i have to send my notebook back? I'd also like to point out that no major program/software installations have been done as this is a brand new notebook so most of the programs/software in it right now are the ones that come pre-installed with the notebook. I will a... I've been having issues since February's windows updates with crackling sound typically in DirectX games and some video playback such as Steam. In an effort to isolate the problem out I've gone over all my drivers and dust contamination yet again this month. I removed both the 3.51 and 4.01 Klite packs and the VLC player I had been using. Registry cleaned and defragged.

My sound card is an Audigy Fatality champion series with the front panel breakout box.

June 3 2009 driver for it #6.0.1.1373

Dxdiag attached as well.

Next on my list is to see if maybe there's new drivers for my tv tuner capture board which does have sound card resources apparently.

As a side note, I use Ventrilo daily. When ever I launch it after a fresh reboot and connect to a server it locks the PC up for like 90 seconds before behaving normally and displaying the MOTD. It's done this for maybe 6 months. Whenever I have bad game problems I can generally disconnect and reconnect from the vent server without that little annoyance. I want to lay the blame at DirectX, but I've tried several forced updates of it without any improvement.

Playing in the APB beta as well, and thru tips from those players disabled multimedia network throttling in the registry which improved in game performance there a ton.
I really do not want to reload this machine as it takes an eternity to get everything back the way I like it.

Hi folks,

Recently I was setting up a VPN client (PacketIX), and the setup wizard suggested some Audio/Video Streaming "Optimization" tweaks. I didn't pay attention and confirmed.

Since then, I often hear some crackling / popping noises. For instance, this systematically occurs when I Alt/Tab between a running game and my desktop.

An obvious guess is that the damn VPN client messed up some sound settings, but I can't figure out what to do.

I've found a good deal of DPC latency workarounds around here which I tried in vain.

Any ideas ?

Thanks

Answer:[Sound crackling ] VPN client messed up my sound settings

Try a system restore to before you installed the VPN client. (System Restore)

Then reinstall the VPN client and don't let it fiddle with the audio settings.

Hi.My laptop model is hp 15g009ax.When i stop hearing song or any audio in earphones, after approximately 6 seconds I hear a quick crackling sound. The crackling sound comes after any sound that ends or After the specific application that is playing the audio is closed). I will tell you what is did to stop this.1) I updated the sound driver from hp support website specific to my model. Didn't work2) Tried the earphones in other phones and lapotps. Working fine.3) Thought the problem is with windows. So dual-booted windows with Ubuntu 14.04.1. When I tried Ubuntu without installing it, earphones seemed to work fine without crackling after sound ends. But after installing Ubuntu and checked, the same problem repeated, but this time crackling sound started coming before the sound starts and after the sound ends. This is very irritating and after reading some articles about this problem, Some said the problem is due to interference(Not sure) of motherboard with soundcard. Can you please specify the source of this problem and a solution to it.Thanks In Advance

Answer:Speaker problem - No sound in one desktop speaker

When you borrowed your friends speakers, was it the same speaker, left or right, that didn't work?  If so, it must be a bad jack on your computer.  Plugs and jacks work on simple physical contact with a spring like action and sometimes they get warped.Sometimes you can push the contacts back into the right position, and sometimes you can't.  Open up your case, power off of course, plug in your speakers, and see if you can see where the plug and the jack are missing contact (not always possible).

Answer:Speaker problem - No sound from one desktop speaker

It very much sounds like a defective female jack receptacle on the "speaker/lineout" output. I assume that your results from the headset status was done from the headset/microphone jack as opposed to the "speaker" jack? If these are powered speakers you can try them in the headset output and at least determine if both speakers work. Alternatively you can also test your speakers on another computer to eliminate the possibility of a defective speaker.I don't know if your audio software provides for a left/right speaker mute if so you might check to ensure whichever side is not producing audio is NOT muted. I again assume this is a recent occurrence to something that had previously worked properly? Have you recently changed anything associated with the sound? Is your sound on-board or a standalone card?truenorth

My motherboard is a PCCHIPS M848LU V1.2 http://www.pcchipsusa.com/prod-m848lu.asp and the onboard sound is a C-Media AC97 (I don't know the exacts of it, but I think I can find out) It has up-to-date drivers

I just bought this comp from maincomp.com, its an AMD Athlon XP2600+, maxtor 30gig 7200rpm hd, 128mb ddr pc2100 ram (512 PC2700, whenever it gets here...) nvidia 128mb geforce4mx440, Windows XP Professional SP1a, 52x24x52x cd-rw..onboard NIC, onboard sound.

Anyway, whenever I play *most* (I say most because a few mp3s either from winamp radiostations or mp3s on my harddrive dont crack, but the sound quality is still alittle bad) it cracks some-what badly, some worse than others.. I've tried reinstalling the drivers and messing around with the settings, no help...everythings brand-new, so think it might be defective, or an hardware conflict? Thanks in advance.

Answer:Sound crackling, bad quality (onbored sound)

Well you could visit the PCCHIPS website and see if they have any updates for the Sound.

Also try another pair of speakers, could be bad speakers or a damaged cable/plug.

Thats a fairly nice machine, however you shouldn't have skimped on the motherboard - its one of the lowest end manufacturers of mobo's.

You may be better off by simple buying a PCI soundcard - I recommend a Creative Soundblaster - and disable the onboard sound. You'll get better quality sound and better performance in games.

Hello,
I upgraded my Win XP to Win 7 like 1 month ago.
Downloaded all drivers (from their sites) updated them... then i open WMP 11 and start playing some music. After listening to that i heard some weird sound lag, I believe its called crackling. I searched on internet found some solutions, but none worked and none was for mine sound card.
This wasn't happening on Win XP.
Oh and if i have older version of driver it works way batter (only hear crackling when my cpu goes up to 1000MB (100%) ), but then my Microphone goes really quiet like I disabled microphone boost.

Hope you understand my problem.

In the last week, all sound on my laptop has started to crackle slightly. I changed headphones, but realized that thats not the problem. If i increase volume, the crackling gets worse, and distortion really sets in. Strange....only started happening last week. I have tried reinstalling my sound card driver, but no change there. Have looked around all my audio settings but cant find any clues. music etc is still listenable, but there is just a faint crackle constantly annoying me. and distortion if i turn the volume up louder.

Does this mean my sound card is wearing out?? or is it a physical prob inside?

my sound card is : Conexant AC link audio
i have windows xp home edition on a HP compaq nx4800

any help would be much appreciated!!

Hi Everyone,

This issue has been going on for about a year now, both on 32 and 64 bit XP. My computer is around 3 years old, and no hardware has changed since then.

All my drivers are up-to-date, BIOS updates, software, patches, windows etc.

I have had lots of "theories" or "temp fixes" sent to me but in reality are not suitable.

When I play music (with any player) sometimes the sound crackles, to resolve the issue I have to pause then unpause the song and it stops for the duration of that song.

My Sound Card:

Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme Audio 7.1 Sound Card - OEM (PCI-Express)

I have found lots of information, but non suitable.

Sound issues with crackling and popping
A number of owners of X-Fi cards have come to experience what is known as a constant popping and crackling noise during use of the cards. Creative has attributed the case to be NVIDIA nForce motherboards, however many other users who do not use these motherboards continue to experience the sound issues. Creative has not provided a fix as of yet for this

I have 680i SLI NIVDIA motherboard.. but none of the above fixes work.

There's tons of websites/webpages with people having the same problem.

Answer:Sound Blaster X-Fi [Sound issues crackling]

It's a bit hard to suggest without going through everything to see what you might have tried already (although I did have a look at your second link and a very quick look at the third). So please excuse if you have already tried the following, or if they seem too obvious (more hardware than software suggestions, as you have perhaps been trying mostly software, by the look of it).

It kinda sounds like something's deteriorating, and when you give it a moment to rest, it resets itself.

You haven't mentioned anything about your speakers (or headphones). Are they OK? Have you tried others, or tried yours in another computer? Can you try a USB speaker (if you haven't got that already)? How are the connections/cables/jacks?

Do you have an onboard audio driver you can try (ie take out the sound card)? Can you borrow a sound card to try?

Maybe it's a poor connection, including solder joint, in there somewhere. Hard to track down - have to try swapping things.

Is your problem confined to one medium (CD/DVD, stored audio files, downloaded music), or does it happen with all types?

Does it happen when you're eating Rice Bubbles? -D) (It's late, OK?)

Any possibility of interference from nearby electronics or electrical appliances?

Is your power supply unit OK? (Don't know why these last two items would be fixed by pausing the song, but I'm running low on ideas - maybe I'll stop here and let someone else have a go...)

Question: Crackling Sound

Hi all,

Am new to the forums so please be patient with me!

My machine is fairly old but runs Windows 7 32Bit perfectly fine. In fact I was amazed to find all the hardware is picked up fine and runs nearly as fast as XP did.

Have been using it for some time without issues but recently the sound has become what I would describe as crackly and breaks up. It happens when Windows boots and it plays the little intro tune, then when I log on its fine. Then if I play a Quicktime movie trailer for instance it crackles or Youtube etc.

My MSI motherboad doesnt have any downloadable drivers for Windows 7 so its using whatever is the defaults.

I have tried changing the sound settings to different qualities and also reducing it from 5.1 sound to 2 channel stereo but to no avail.

To make sure its not a hardware fault I have reinstalled XP and also Ubuntu with no issues at all.

I then reinstalled Windows 7 and immediately the crackling returns which puzzles me as I ran Windows 7 for months without issues.

I have also tried changing the emulation in the BIOS from AC97 to Azalia but again to no avail.

Any suggestions would be gratefully recieved.

Many Thanks

Paul.

Sounds like your on board sound isn't properly supported by windows 7. Did i read correctly that the crackling only happens on certain things? Also does your mouse lag or any applications lag when the crackling happens?

Question: Sound crackling...

So here is my problem,

I just got a new Win XP Media Center PC with 2 gigs RAM, 360 GB HDD, ATI Radeon video card etc.. I usually don't have many app's open at a time, but when I began playing the Sims I started using more RAM. The Sims 2 takes up about 550 MB of my PC's RAM. The sound on the game's sound crackles when the game is loading or if I am zooming in/out, even when I am clicking on items and giving commands. I tried EA tech support, but I then realized that the same sound crackling happens when I have many app's open using over 600 MB of memory.

I am using a Plantronics Gamecom Pro headset (USB). I tested the sound using a pair of stereo phone jack headphones, but the same crackling still happened.

What could be the problem? I checked all my sound codecs and everything seems to be working normally there.

Thanks everyone!

Hi guys! I have had this problem a lot of time ago... then I did a clean installation of win 10 and for a bit of time the problem seemed to be solved. My machine has been having a LOT of crackling sound in videos and music , especially on youtube since a couple of weeks and I don't know why. I did the update of bios yesterday and the crackling seemed to be even worse than before... what should I do? It's for sure a software problem. I have also tried the DPC latency checker and the back to the clean installation was working fine ; now it says I should have problems... before the value were always on the green level and now they are all yellow/red   https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B8fd8FmXTIhVd2oxZG5tTmFzNmc/view?usp=sharing this is a link to the crackling I have. the sound is the same I hear, so it's not a problem of the mic I have used.  You can hear it very well at 16 seconds and so on....

Question: Sound crackling

Hi everyone,

For the past few months I've had a problem on my desktop PC, where for seemingly no reason after a few hours of being switched on, the sound will start crackling.

I'm using windows 7 service pack 1 as my OS, and at first i thought the problem was with windows but now I'm not so sure, as the crackling will also happen on my VM using win 7 pro, and also Ubuntu (the only 2 OS installed on my VM).although they are set to use the host audio.

I then began thinking it must be my speakers so i checked the connections, which seemed fine and them plugged in some headphones to listen for the crackling through them, and found the crackling was also happening throught the headphones so this must discount it being a problem with the speakers.

The crackling sound can best be described as like the sound of when one plays an LP and it kind of crackles at the start. It can get worse than that at times though where it will pop and can distort the music.

The crackling happens when i play youtube video's or if i listen to internet radio, or use Winamp or Windows media player, and sometimes even with windows system sounds such as when you click to go into a folder.

I'm using Realtek high definition audio and recently updated the drivers hoping this would fix it, to no avail.

So basically guys, i have no idea where to go from here, and was hoping people with far more knowledge than me could help me out, if you can I'd be eternally gratef... Read more

Hi, A few days ago the sound on my Acer Aspire V3 - 772G, about 1 year old, started crackling and getting distorted. I have all the latest drivers installed on my P50, but I still hear pop/crackling sounds whenever some audio is playing, irrespective of the source. There's a thread here which addresses pop sounds when nothing is playing, so this is a different case. You might think this might me due to clipping as I'm overworking the onboard amplifiers, but this is not the case because even at very low volumes I still hear the pop/crackling sounds. It's the type of sound you hear from someone with a severe cold trying to clear his very clogged nostrils. It's really irritating having to hear it about 5 times every minute. The most weird part of it all is that if I reinstall the drivers, the pop/crackling sound disappears entirely. However, they return after 2 or more restarts. I only experience this issue when the onboard soundcard is being used because I don't notice the issue through my external dac + amp combo. Can someone help here ?

When I listen to music using Winamp or Windows Media Player (CD and MP3) after a while it gets crackly and sounds funny. If I stop it then play it again its fine. Its really annoying to have to stop and start songs all the time. Is there a way to fix this?

Answer:Crackling Sound

how much ram does your pc have? if it's less than 256 on xp then that can cause this type of problem. if this is the case then you can go to www.blackviper.com and go through his tutorial on xp and that will help free up the ram. Also download latest drivers for your sound device. if you have onboard sound the drivers will be located on the manufactures site for the mainboard or pc if you have a namebrand ie dell, hp. If you installed a soundcard then you'll have to go to the soundcard manufacturer's site to get the latest set of drivers. you probably know where to find your driver's but I add this info just in case you do not.

I plugged the speakers into the motherboard and they worked fine.

motherboard has got latest bios update (but that didnt fix the problem)

Ive looked for solutions, new drivers, fixes etc without any luck.

Question: Sound Crackling.

Hello all,
I have a refurbished Toshiba Satellite L650D laptop that I got exactly a year ago. Lately I've been having a problem where the sound goes crackly and even distorted when playing, and up until today I thought it was just me playing sounds too early because it would always go away a few minutes after start up.

Today it stayed around for 10 minutes, before I rebooted. After that it seemed normal at first, even the startup sound wasn't distorted, but about an hour later there is still at last some crackling in my music. It doesn't just happen with window's media player, but youtube as well and it first started to show up around october when I played Skyrim (I just blamed how much memory the game takes up).

I've tried disabling the enhancements (which seemed to be the solution for most others with this problem), I have done virus scans, I have even used the task manager to end some non essential processes that took up memory.

I have noticed in my searches that most reporting similar problems found it got WORSE the longer the computer was on, while in my case it's usually at its worst around startup.

Im using onboard Realtek with the newest drivers applied. It only seems to happen online listening to music or watching videos so could be a flash player issue. Any solutions would be helpful

Hi jpg, Welcome to the Forum.

It might be best if you visit your motherboard manufacturers website to download the drivers. They might not be the newest but could be specialized for your particular board.

I have a crackling noise in my sound. I went to personalize and went to look for Start Navigation settings and it has a question mark in a yellow sign. What does that mean??

I need to fix this problem.

Thanks.

Answer:Help my sound is crackling up!!

Go to start button, search. Then go to device manager. Update speaker driver
The driver associated with that yellow sign must be updated.

Question: Sound crackling?

Hello, just wanted to say sorry for my poor english.
So... My sound has been crackling/popping in alot of games and not only , also for mumble and this kind of stuff, same with Skype.

I have read many forums about this but couldnt find solution , i have heard that "outdated drivers" might be the problem... but the thing is i dont know what sound card i have :\

I'm using Windows XP
Heres what i have in my "Device manager - Sound , video and game controllers"
- Audio Codecs
-Legacy Audio Drivers
-Legacy Video Capture Drivers
-Media Control Devices
-NVIDIA High Definition Audio
-NVIDIA High Definition Audio
-NVIDIA High Definition Audio
-NVIDIA High Definition Audio
-VIA High Definition Audio
-Video Codes

And it happens even in games and things that used to sound fine , it all started happening after formating pc? I think

Please , help! Sorry if i didnt provide enghout info , please ask if u have any questions about my pc :\ and pardon my bad english once again

Answer:Sound crackling?

-NVIDIA High Definition Audio < are most likely the video card HDMI port audio drivers

-VIA High Definition Audio < should be a motherboard audio chipset and most likely the default audio chipset.

What is the brand and model of the computer? Or the brand and model of the motherboard if it's homebuilt?

I'm been having trouble lately with my PC. Admittedly it is 5 years old, however I don't really have the money for a new one at the moment.

What is happening is that when I run a game that it has never had any problems with before often everything slows down and the sound starts to distort with a crackling noise. This has been most obvious in Race 07 when there is a full grid of cars around me. Everything practically stops at this point. Normally I would chalk it up to the computer not being powerful enough but it has never had this problem before in that game. It sometimes also happens when watching a HD Youtube video. Some less intensive games such as Super Meat Boy seem to be okay.

I have also had an occasional BSOD on startup, I took a photo which you can see here.

I have the system information from dxdiag here.

My guess is the graphics card is on it's way out but apart this everything else is fine so I am hoping there is a fix for this. Any help would be appreciated.

Answer:Crackling Sound and Lag

The BSOD is referencing nvlddmkm.dll - which is a nVidia driver file.

Go to Visual Computing Leadership from NVIDIA and update your GPU drivers for your card to see if that alleviates the issues.

Yesterday my sound was fine, i havnt installed any new software at all for ages. Today i turned my pc on and all the sounds are crackling even the normal windows sounds. I tried a new set of speakers and still the same problem. I updated my NVIDIA nForce Audio drivers and still the same. I checked all the sound settings and everything is fine, they are the same as they always been.

Any suggestions???

Please help, thanks!

Arron.

Answer:Crackling Sound!!!!

u said all the settings were the same but u may have missed this, check to see if your sound settings are set for digital out instead of analog....if you dont have digital speakers and it is, all you will hear is crackling.

Hi all,

A couple of weeks ago I bought and downloaded a copy of the "AOS system optimizer" and after using it to 'optimize' my system it instead screwed it up big time... now my sound crackles and stutters when I play all media, online or offline, dvds, youtube, games, etc...

Technical support from them didn't solve my problem, needless to say I've asked for( and gotten) a refund from them, but I'm still stuck with this annoying problem..I've tried the usual methods, such as rolling back drivers, uninstalling all the audio drivers (Nvidia and Realtek) restarting and letting win7 reinstall them, all to no avail

Here is how my audio 'profile' looks like :

Answer:Crackling and distorted sound in Win 7

The RealTek would be your PC's sound device. NVIDIA is for HDMI only. I don't know what you have for the USB device, but that may be interferring and causing some of the problems.

However, the PC "optimizer" (also know as registry repairers, PC speed up, etc) can do many things that device drivers along cannont fix. Ultimately it may take a complete reinstall to get the PC operating fully and properly.

The first thing, is the USB device, disconnect it temporarily, restart the PC and see if that makes any difference. Also, if you are not using the Acer supplied RealTek sound driver, get that and install it. Generally the PC Vendor's driver is the preferred driver.

I had crackling sound problem in my old computer, and now after building new one it still exist. All parts are new except RAM.

When I watch video without pausing it there wont be any crackling, if i pause/play it fast there will be popping/crackling sound. Problem is pretty bad in Mumble/teamspeak when there is few people speaking, same in many games when there is many different audio sources to play. Crackling and popping really makes gaming with friends annoying...

I have tried different headphones, fresh install windows, new audio drivers.

Here is few videos I recorded (using speakers)
in this video i turn volume completely off and then back on

and this i only adjust volume low/high (pretty fast)

Hello!
I have had this problem for quite a long time but I am getting enough from it.

Basicly nearly always when I start playing any sound source there is crackling in sound at begining. Happens usually with high frequenzy sounds, adjusting volume on youtube videos or click rewinding youtube video fast, also usually when I close video there that annoying sound occurs.
So basicly, always when someone talks in Mumble or I click to play video there is that annoying crackling/popping, it doesnt last long. Only when sound starts playing.

Here is some pictures you might find helpful

Answer:Sound crackling/popping

First off welcome to SF. Second with sounds I would double check all your connections. Most often this is the pin making poor contact or even the beginning of a wire breaking down maybe from a bend or crimp. Then I would uninstall and reinstall the most current audio drivers and as well go to the mono mfgrs. site to check for other driver updates and lastly read to see if any bios updates deal with sound issues.

I have a strange problem with sound outputs. It affetcs all sound outputs (itunes, movies and games).

The sound 'crackles'/skips. It seems to be related to computer / internet activity ongoing while listening to a song etc.

For the first few hours after re-boot all is fine and I can run loads of programmes without affecting the sound. After a few hours (maybe 6) it starts but infrequently (3x a minute) with very small skips, after about 24 hrs it's got so bad that things are unlisteneable - literally!.

Once the problem has started I've tried turning all other programmes off but it makes no difference

It's not the heaphones and I've tried with speakers / other phones and it's still there.

I've checked the sound thing drivers (realtek) and updated, it doesn't seem related to any particular combination of programmes or computer activities but the fact it gets worse over time is a constant.

It's a Compac machine only 6 months old and has no other issues I'm aware of

I'm now restarting the machine every 12 hours or so or using it without music.

Any ideas suggestions etc much appreciated

Hey there. Some music programs I use the music comes out distorted, cracking when using features. I tried everything, update, reinstall previous drivers etc.Dunno whats wrong. I have an on-board sound card AC'97.Can someone give me a suggestion why its happening?

Answer:Sound Crackling in some programs.

It sounds like the on-board sound card is on its way out, sound cards are pretty cheap. You should be able to pick one up for less than a tenner, of course that depends on the quality of the sound card that you want.

I only get the issue, when playing music watching films playing games and youtube. My drivers are fully updated and bios is up to date

500gb Harddrive
Sapphire 7750 Graphics Card
Creative Sound Blaster Audigy 2
Motherboard Asus A55BM-E

Any Help would be great

Answer:Sound Distortion and Crackling

The noise problem was a common problem on Win 7, and to a lesser extent on Win 8. There isn't a "one fix" for the problem. Some of the problems can be traced to sound drivers, others to Video drivers, power supply, etc.

Suggest you download and run the Resplendence Latency Mon program. That may get you in the right area.
Resplendence Software - Advanced System Tools and Developer Components

A side note, if you are using the SoundBlaster, disable the on-board audio in the BIOS to avoid conflicts. Unlike Windows XP, newer Windows only allows one default audio playback device.

What shall i do?
Thanks

Answer:Sound Crackling/ Fuzzy

If it was the updated driver that is causing the problem, you can go to the Device Manager and in the Properties for your sound device you can click on the Driver tab and the select the option to "Rollback Driver" which will revert it back to the old driver.
