X1 Carbon ThinkPad USB 3.0 dock audio issues

Question: X1 Carbon ThinkPad USB 3.0 dock audio issues

Hello - I have a X1 Carbon with the ThinkPad USB 3.0 dock. Everything worked great under Windows 8.1. I would occassionally have an issue with the dock not coming online after resuming Win 8.1, but it was easy to fix by powering the dock on/off or rebooting. However since upgrading to Win 10, I have a very frustrating audio issue. Application seem to have trouble picking between the sound device inside the laptop and the dock. For example, I'll get an incoming call from Skype, and it will start the call on the laptop internal speakers, then say the "Realtek audio device is unavailable". If I call the person back, it then completes the call and works fine through the dock audio device (which is what it should have done the first time). However the issue isn't only with Skype, it's with all apps. For example, if I start Pandora in the Chrome browser, it will start playing the audio through the laptop speakers for about 1 second, then stop. I then have to refresh the web page a few times to get it to start playing out of the dock sound device. All the while, Windows is configured (and properly reports) the dock sound device as the default (which is what I want). I suspect this is an issue with the drivers for either the dock or the X1 not properly talking to Windows 10, but both are up to date, and either Lenovo or DisplayLink (who makes the dock drivers) have any noted issues with audio-switching. Has anyone else experienced this issue? It's very frustrating.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello fellow users / Lenovo, In our office we have several X1 Carbons and several ThinkPad USB 3.0 Docks (0A33970) located all over the office. We typically bring our X1 Carbons around and use each other's Dock during the course of work. However, we recently face a problem with the Ethernet interface not working with other Docks, other than the Dock that the driver was installed with. Using other Docks, the Ethernet interface comes up as a generic Ethernet device with a yellow warning triangle inside Control Panel. Using the Dock that the driver was installed with, the Ethernet device works as normal. It should be pretty easy to replicate this behaviour, just get an X1 Carbon (fresh, Windows 8.1) and connect a USB 3.0 Dock to it, and install appropriate drivers.Verify that the Ethernet port works correctly. Next, disconnect the Dock and connect another Dock to the X1 Carbon. Observe that the Ethernet interface does not work, and see the yellow warning triangle icon under Control Panel. Uninstalling and Reinstalling the drivers with the new Dock doesn't work either. Only the Dock that the driver was originally installed with will work.

wait doesent' the docking station come with own power supply? if so then use that and not the laptop one since i'm quite sure it comes with own AC adapter so it can handle charge of laptop and powering the dock.

I have a simple question, Can I run 2 external monitors using the Ultrabase series 3 with the X230 docked and the lid open? My goal is to be able to see basically 3 displays. The main one would be the laptop and the other two extended monitors connected to the dock stations. One connected with VGA cable and the other with display port cable. Any help is appreciated.  Sebastiano

Answer:ThinkPad Pro Dock, ThinkPad Ultra Dock, or ThinkPad OneLink Pro Dock - External Monitors

The X230 can support this configuration from memory.

Hi, Everyone. Got me a nice little x270 to replace my old x201.  Happy enough with the machine, but getting it connected to my accessories (monitor, keyb, mouse, ethernet) is a bit of a chore. This machine appears to have a "proper" dock port on the bottom.  Is there a compatible ultradock available for the model 20HN x270?  By proper - I mean, Not USB.  A nice dock I can simply drop the machine into when I'm at the home office.. Thanks!

Got my X1 carbon, like it don't love it.  However using it on our wired network I'm getting around 20MB speeds copying files and my carbon becomes very copy when doing large 2GB file type copies. On my T420s with a "real" docking station I get around 150MB speeds copying the same file. No errors on our Cisco switches, seem speeds are locking in fine.  Is that simply the best I'm going to to over the USB 3.0 connecting to the SS port?  I can almost live with slow speeds but copy video during copies, no way. Am I missing something, doing something wrong, or this is what it is?  Sure hope not...

Having the exact same problem. Files that transfer instantly on other computer take upwards of 40-60 seconds on the X1 through the USB 3.0 dock.  We are using the most recent dock drivers as well as the most recent usb 3.0 drivers, so not sure what could be causing this problem. Thanks

I'm trying to image a second generatoin X1 Carbon that also has a OneLinkPro dock attached via SCCM 2012 R2.The USB stick is plugged into the dock, as is Ethernet & power. When I boot into the preinstallation environment, I don't have an IP address. The USB stick is fine - works on all 26 other devices hereThe network cable is fine - I'm able to get an IP & image from other systemsI tried two OneLinkPro docks, same problem on bothIf I use the Ethernet adapter, it works fineI'm convinced its a driver issue at this point. I was directed to www.lenovo.com/onelinkdrivers to locate OneLink dock drivers, and I've downloaded the package. The downloaded EXE (tp_onelink_dock.exe) extracts to C:\SWTOOLS\DRIVERS\Dock by defaultIn C:\SWTOOLS\DRIVERS\Dock you have another EXE Setup_OneLink_Dock_Lenovo_v10826.exeThis immediately launches an installshield setup (run from %temp%)There no options to extract the drivers - it just installs the drivers, and none of the switches I've thrown at it have yielded any results.I found a data1.cab file but I can't seem to extract anything with 7Zip or expand How are folks with second gen X1 Carbons who use SCCM for OSD successfully imaging those machines with the OneLinkPro dock? (without the use of the Ethernet adapter of course.)

Answer:ThinkPad X1 Carbon 2nd+OneLinkPro Dock = No IP Address During Imaging (OSD) via SCCM 2012 R2

Fauxlution:Install drivers on an x86 machineNavigate to C:\Program Files\Lenovo\Onelinkdock (or something like that)Grab the driver directories & save them elsewhereRepeat process for x64 machine because the installer will only install drivers for the architecture of the system its run on.  (x86 system = x86 drivers; x64 system = x64 drivers)Clean up the drivers (extra non-essential files in there)Import both sets of drivers into SCCMBake architecture specific Realtek drivers into boot imageCouldn't be simpler.

Hi I'm experiencing some problems with the combination of the Thinkpad Carbon X1 gen 2 machine and the onelink dock. The problem is basically that the X1 doesn't detect properly when the pc is detached from the onelink - and the other way around is the same (assuming that the pc hasn't been shutdown in the meantime). Anyone has experienced this or have suggestions for solution(s) I'd be happy to hear from you. Just some facts here: I have run a full system update and installed the onelink software package on the X1. Kind regards Thomas

Hello to everyone, I have a very strange problem.I've purchased X1 carbon together with OneLink PRO dock. The problem I have, is that only thing I can use OneLink together is external monitor.USB ports does not work at all, there is no voltage at output, ethernet does not work too.Button on top also works and I can put carbon to sleep and wake him up from sleep.Other stuff does not work. I noticed that dock gets veery hot after 2-3 minutes when connected to power, as well as power supply for it, even if computer is fully charged.I also noticed that red led should be on if dock is active but it is not. I mean RED led on I letter of "ThinkPad". Is there a possibility that I received blown and not working dock from Lenovo?

X1 Carbon 5th Gen (20HR) with i5 7300U / standard Toshiba 512GB SSD / 16GB RAM.  Straight out of the box the "Windows Audio Device Graph Isolation" (WADGI) process was using between 15% and (occasionally) 95% total CPU resources, causing the machine to slow to a crawl, with the fan whirring away constantly, not to mention severly impacting battery life.  Tried reinstalling the Conexant Audio driver from Lenovo support website (didn't help).  Uninstalled the Conexant Audio Driver (solved the issue, but soon after reboot Conexant auto reinstalled and the issue returned, thereby validating that the Conexant Audio Driver was the cause.  It must have some pretty poor code ... you'd think they'd test these things, right?).  Got some great support from a chap named Steve at the Lenovo Support desk in Romania, but nothing we tried helped (including doing a bit of registry editing, editing various group policies, attempting to make the Windows Update Foundation service not auto-install updates, etc.).  Steve got back in touch with me a couple of times over a few days and we continued to attempt various things.  At one point I reinstalled the OS using a Lenovo provided USB Recovery flash drive and then updated OS to Win10 Creators (didn't help).  Throughout all of this the Conexant Audio driver continued to run at an average of 20% CPU usage, often spiking as high as 30% (I only saw it go to 90% twice but on one of those occasions I had to shutdo... Hello, I recently installed a ThinkPad OneLink Pro to go along with a user's X! Carbon.  Once I had the drivers installed everything appears to work ok except for when the user has external speakers connected to the dock.  The speakers are USB powered and also plug into the headphone jack. When inside of "Sound Options" within the control panel you see the device light up once I plug the headphone cable in but no audio comes out of the speakers.  It continues to come out of the speakers on the laptop itself. Troubleshooting 1.  I connected the USB cable to the laptop and left headphone connection in dock.  No audio from external speakers audio played through laptop speakers.2.  I connected the USB cable to the laptop and connected the headphone cable to the laptop.  Audio comes from the external speakers.3. Reconnected everything back to dock and disabled speakers on laptop.  No audio from external speakers but audio still comes from laptop speakers4. Same setup as #3 but enabled laptop speakers and manually set External speakers to be default playback.  No audio from external speakers...audio came through laptops speakers. To me this seems to point to the dock but I'm not sure what I can do.  I checked the utility for the dock itself but all those functions do is point you to sections in Control Panel. As a side note she had a different Lenovo dock before that did not power the lap... New P50 user here.   Computer is very nice,  I have many HP Zbooks at my company, they have been mostly trouble free but I wanted to give lenovo a try.  This machine has alot of good features except for this docking station!  I am running Win7 Pro,  I have sucessfully installed a Samsung 960 Evo M.2 Drive and cloned the 500 GB WDC drive that came with the computer.  Everythig on the computer itself operates well,  I have all the normal windows updates, and all of the critical and important lenovo updates per the solution center. Lenovo Service Bridge will not install for some reason.  So that has been the one other difficulty I am having. Docking Problem:  I have been unable to get the USB ports work on the dock to work due to a driver/software issue I cannot find the right drivers to use  on the lenovo website When I lay the P50 in the Dock or boot it up on the dock it will say Lenovo ThinkPas WS Dock Driver not found/not installed correctlyLenovo ThinkPas WS Dock Driver not found/not installed correctly   Says it twice once for 2.0 USB and once for 3.0 I am assuming.   It seemed to install correctly on the first dock but no USB were working so i went to Device manager and uninstalled now they won't come back. Hi! I have bought a T450s with Win7 and a ThinkPad USB 3.0 Pro dock recently and I have had some problems with the dock.BIOS and drivers are up to date on the computer and the dock can work sometime but only when the dock itself installs drivers from Windows update. If I disconnect the dock from the computer more than a couple of minutes it won't work again, it shows up on Devices and Printers but the external screen, ethernet, mouse and external keyboard wont work anymore. What I've discovered is:- When the dock works there is atleast 5 different things listed under the hardware tab of the device (can't remember what, and I can't get it working again)- When it's not working but the dock shows up on the Device and Printers there is only 2 things listed under the hardware tab, USB 2.0 nav and USB 2.0 nav. These are also listed there when it works.- I don't know why the dock doesn't run on USB 3.0 at any point.- When the dock works I can't update the firmware, it just says "No device found" when running the firmware update. What I've done so far:- Completely removed/reinstalled all drivers several times- Checked that BIOS is up to date- Checked in the BIOS if USB 3.0 is enabled- Sent the dock back to Lenovo and have gotten a new one, still same problem.Anyone have some ideas of what's wrong? Google and I'm running out of ideas..

I hear you. I have the same problem with a T460s. And so far i have done the same thing. However, it's working on other 2 computers same model without a single error. And also i have a Toshiba Windows 10 computer, that I just plugged in and the drivers were downloaded through Windows Update quick, it was completely a plug and play experience.  But on Windows 7 doesn't seems to work... I don't know what's going on. It still shows up  as USB 2.0 hub

Hello,I think of buying the ThinkPad T400 with one of these docking stations: ThinkPad Advanced Dock or ThinkPad Dock II.I have several technical questions and haven't found neither appropriate information, nor the way to get it.Here are my questions:1. Do these docking stations support DVI when T400 with integrated (not discrete) graphics is connected? 2. Where can I find a complete list of UltraBay devices supported by each one of these docking stations? Thanks

Answer:T400 with docking stations, ThinkPad Advanced Dock and ThinkPad Dock II

I have a T400 with integrated graphics and recently purchased the Advanced Mini Dock 250410U.  The Advanced Dock and Advanced Mini Dock support DVI pass-through.  I looked into this before purchasing as well. This page will confirm the feature:  http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-72148.  Also see reference guide for docking stations: http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-4TPJF4 which says ThinkPad Dock II is discontinued.  This brochure says the Advanced Mini Dock does not support Ultrabay, but the Advanced Dock does.  http://download.lenovo.com/ibmdl/pub/pc/pccbbs/options_iso/tp_docking_solutions_june09.pdf .

I finally received my ThinkPad USB 3.0 dock today after a long delivery time from order. The basic USB 3.0 functions fully work, but I'm having some issues with the software that is supposed to control the dock for audia and video. In addition, Smart Audio will fail to initialize if I have the USB audio adapter enabled in the control panel (see below):

The user guide states that the control icon should be in the notification tray, but it is never there unless I first go to devices, right -click on the dock icon, and then select "Check for Updates" The icon will then appear for a brief time and then vanish. No setting of the tray customizations will keep it visible. This appears to be a bug. Also, the installation instructions are flawed in that the system will pick up the drivers from Windows Update BEFORE you get a chance to load from the supplied driver CD. The correct installation is to first load the CD, install the software, and THEN connect the USB cable for the dock.

Has anyone else had experience with the W520 and this dock? It is a slick hardware package for certain. I'd just like to get the control software setup to where it should be enabled.

FYI, here is the PCI tree for the setup:

Thanks

Answer:W520 and ThinkPad USB 3.0 Dock (A033970) - Issues

Update:

The system has a connectivity problem with the Plextor PX-LB950UE External BD Writer when the drive is connected to the W520 via USB 3.0 port either directly to the system or via the docking solution. The unit is an AC powered device with either eSata or USB 3.0 interface.

Sometimes the system will just hang (using the USB 3.0 interface) before the Windows 7 logon screen, sometimes the system comes up, but the drive is missing. Always, if I power the drive on after the system is fully operational the drive will be recognized and work normally. It almost seems that the USB 3.0 driver is not resetting the port properly and thus the drive gets its interface hosed until a power-on reset. All works properly until the next time when the system is restarted. The unit is running its latest firmware.

I am using the latest Renesas USB 3.0 drivers (2.1.32.0) but no joy. Anyone seen a similar issue?

On another note, my USB 3.0 external HDD (WD Passport) is not recognized when booting via the Norton Ghost 15 system recovery disk. (Ihave to use the USB 2.0 port to perform restores). It does work propery under Windows 7, however. I wonder if the BIOS is not properly dealing with the USB 3.0 ports.

Hi, I have a ThinkPad Edge E531 that I am experiencing issues with whilst the OneLink docking station is plugged in.- the laptop will not wake from sleep mode. Hibernation seems to work better, but waking the computer from sleep the screen goes black and the computer is stuck in some weird idle mode where nothing happens- when booting the computer the above happens, the computer is stuck idling and won't boot up properly until I force shut down and unplug the docking station- sometimes when booting the computer the OneLink docking station will not be found. I have to either a) unplug and plug in until it works or b) restart the computer and hope it works Is anyone else experiencing the same issues?I am running the computer on Windows 10. TL;DRNon-functioning booting/waking up from sleep whilst OneLink is plugged in, and sometimes OneLink not recognized at all. Highly annoying. Thanks, goose

Hi, I've got a Thinkpad Mini Dock Series 3 and a T410. After not using the dock for ~3 months while I was away from home, I re returned and attempted to use it only to find that there were several connectivity issues with it: 1) The DVI connection does not work at all.2) The DisplayPort connection requires me to fiddle with it every time to get my T410 to recognize it.3) The audio jack is only giving me sound from my left speakers. This is really frustrating, particularly how I have to fiddle with the DisplayPort connection every time, because I have 2 external monitors. Has anyone run into these issues before? Thanks!

Hi there, I have an E450 with Windows 7 64-bit Professional, Enabled and Activated TPM on the BIOS, Enabled BitLocker and waited for encryption to complete.  Few restarts and all working fine. I have installed the latest drivers and firmware for the OneLink Pro, as of today 8/20/2015, from the support website. When I connect the OneLink Pro all works fine, NIC, Video, USB, but then when I restart the machine BitLocker kicks in asking for the Password as if the hardware had changed.  Once enter the password it boots into Windows fine but after each restart it will ask again.  Until you disconnect the docking station then following restart is ok no prompt. I've tried some recommendations like suspending and resuming BitLocker while the docking station is connected and it works, after a restart no prompt for password, but when you disconnect the docking and restart it prompt for the password again and again until you connect the docking or suspend/resume bitlocker. Now, I have an exact configuration with a X1 Carbon 3rd generation, doing exactly the same steps and at the end with the OneLink Pro connected or not when restarting it does not prompt for BitLocker password. Finally, we tested the E450 with the older USB 3.0 DOCK and it worked just fine, connected/restart no BitLocker, disconnected/restart no BitLocker. I was on the phone with Lenovo support for 1 hour and 30 minutes, they kept transfering me from the Hardware dept to... I recently got a 4th gen X1 carbon, but I noticed some resolution/display issues with certain programs. I tried running Autodesk Vault, but when the program opens it looks like this:The resolution is low grade and is definitely not displaying properly. But it seems like the fill-in blanks and buttons are in the correct spot because when I hover the mouse where they should be I could click on them. I don't think its a problem with the program file because I used the files to download onto another computer and it works fine.  The resolution also looks terrible for the home screen of League of Legends, but during gameplay it is perfectly fine. Does anyone know how to fix this??

Answer:ThinkPad X1 Carbon 4th Gen display issues with some programs

If you have one of the high-definition screen, you are seeing the dark side of screens denser than FHD.  Some applications have made no attempt to become compatible.  All I can suggest is to contact the software publisher.  I can say that over the past year, I have seen the nubber of incompatible applications has gone down.

Hi, I have ThinkPad E550 running Windows 10 (no factory installed software is here, as soon as I bought it, I wiped the hard drive, put in SSD instead of DVD drive, installed clean Windows and downloaded the neccesary drivers from support page) and I bought Onelink Pro Dock. I installed the driver I found here, but when I'm using the dock, every few minutes, or sometimes even more often, something passes out.I have connected ethernet, keyboard + mouse, two monitors over DVI and DIsplayport, one monitor over USB 3 to VGA adapter and sometimes other stuff like phone os flash discs. Nothing is connected to the ThinkPad except But I have the following problems:- Sometimes, the video goes out. Both monitors on DVI and DisplayPort goes black for few second. Usually, audio over DisplayPort goes out too, but very often, it stays out when the video is back. Sometimes the audio on DP is back in few minutes, sometimes at next video blackout.- When I'm using audio jack, the audio goes randomly off and on.- Not so often, DVI video goes out for a few seconds, but nothing else. All other things (ethernet, USBs, even the video out on USB to VGA adapter) never went out. I have the dock for two weeks now, I hoped that the problem will solve itself after few reboots or windows update but nothing. Also, ThinkPad OneLink Dock Management process is using 20-30% CPU.Today, I took stopwatch and paper, this is what happend:In 3 hours, I experienced 86 blackout of both DVI and DP, when the vid... I just upgraded my X1 Carbon to windows 10 last night and everything seems to be working great except for the Audio with a DisplayPort monitor when I am connected to the OneLink Pro Dock,  It fails to detect the Intel Display Audio Driver. This was working just fine in windows 7 and it works fine when I connect the display to the laptop directly through the Mini DisplayPort.   I have the latest Intel Drivers from the Lenovo website as well as the latest OneLink Pro Dock drivers and the latest OneLink Pro firmware. Any idea why the OneLink dock would suddenly not support the passthrough under windows 10? Thanks.

Hi, I have a thinkpad X1 carbon 2014 (20A7) and its not playing audio over HDMI, I have tried the following: 1. Uninstall and reinstall display and audio drivers, this did not help. (although after i uninstall the display drivers i do get the option to play audio over HDMI in windows playback dialog box, otherwise i dont get any option for it to play audio over HDMI in that section) (also note i propperly uninstalled my display drivers using DDU, still no help). i also used an older version of the display divers, it did not help. 2. I used 2 HDMI cables and 2 TVs, still nothing. 3. you may think my laptop is faulty at this point but no, i booted into ubuntu and it worked fine without any issue, flawless audio playback without a hitch. FAQ:Q: is it just the audio or the video is not working too.A: Just the audio, video is fine. Q: Is your tv being detected by the device manger.A: yes, but as a generic monitor, the tvs name dosent show up.Q: Have you tried turning it off and on again.A: Yes, several times Q: Have you reinstalled windows recently?A: Yes, i reinstalled about 2 weeks ago, before that it worked fine (although it has been a year since i used audio over HDMI)

I have a user with a ThinkPad Yoga S1 and a OneLink dock (NOT the pro version).  Periodically when she plugs it into her PC the network connectivity doesn't connect.  generally this requires reseating and restarting the computer for it to come up.  it's on the most recent firmware, though there is a bios update for the yoga.  I have 4 of these configurations all used by C-level managers at our company.  One other has reported similar issues in the past but they seem to have subsided as of late.  Are there any known issues related to this, or anyone else experiencing similar?

Hi, i have Thinkpad W541+ docking station and Samsung monitor(T24E390EX). Monitor have tv tuner, and two speakers. My problem is connecting these two devices. I'm trying over docking station to conncet W541and Samsung montor via HDMI. Video works perfectly, however audio won't work at all. I tried everything uninstall drivers from device manager, restarting laptop many times, changing cable. I even tried on one ASUS laptop to see is it problem in monitor or maybe cable. When i connected them, audio and video worked perfectly. So my question how to solve this problem?

Answer:Thinkpad W541 on dock station, won't recognize tv as audio output via HDMI cable

There's another similar thread going, for a W540.  But no docking station involved on that one... straight cable to miniDP of the W540.  Here are my remarks on that thread...

You need to be sure to enable audio-out through HDMI, rather than through the speakers/headset which is the norm.

Right-click on the speaker icon in system tray, select Playback Devices, select your Samsung TV connected via HDMI (which should be showing as an available audio device in the list to select from), and then push "set default".

If relevant, you then also need to confgure both "Properties" and "Configuration", to support the multi-track audio output formats and not just 2-track stereo, if you need multi-track audio delivered to the HDTV.

Note that the proper audio-HDMI driver support needs to be present and installed properly, in the nVidia graphics driver.  Of course I'm basing this off of my W530 knowledge, where I run "discgrete" graphics (i.e. K1000m only and in 100% control of the miniDP connector and attached external monitor or HDTV, with Intel built-in graphics completely disabled). So I only have the nVidia retail driver to consider, and it definitely has an "option" to install HDMI audio support or not.

You haven't said if you're running Win7, Win8.1 or Win10.  And how do you have the BIOS of the W541 set up as far as graphics configuration.

I assume that with a docking station the W541 will be using nVidia graphics ... Read more

I recently purchased a ThinkPad Yoga with a OneLink Dock Pro. I am having one issue. When I plug the laptop into the one link I get a constant device disconnect sound over and over until I reboot. This happens most frequently when the device goes into sleep mode NOT attached to the dock and I then attach the device to the dock and wake the device up. It happens in other scenarios too but this scenario causes it almost 100% of the time. It is extremely annoying.  In addition, this scenario also causes my HDMI sound (through my Asus monitor) to not work and switching play devices in Windows 8.1 doesn't work until I reboot. Once I reboot, the annoying sound goes away and my sound devices all work. There seems to be a few one-off scenarios that cause this to happen as well but none I can pinpoint just yet. Has anyone else encountered this and is there a fix?

Answer:Issues with ThinkPad Yoga and OneLink Dock Pro - device constantly "disconnects"

Unfortunately, you are not alone.  The combination TPY with OneLink and OneLink Pro is not (yet?) a stable marriage. See, for example, this very long discussion thread (22 pages, >210 posts, 3 months, and counting...):http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Options-Accessories/Re-OneLink-network-port-flapping/td-p/1358947 Lenovo has still (after 3 months!!) not provided a fix for this issue. In the above thread some workarounds have been posted, which seem to work for some. See Page 15 and page 22, for example. Lenovo is really dropping the ball on this one.

(There is another thread on this, but it relates to Windows 8.  I am running Win 7 Pro 64 bit.) I have a Thinkpad X1 Carbon type 3443-CTO.  The Wi-Fi adapter -- never the stablest thing on earth -- is getting flakier and flakier.  I am constantly having to reset or disable/re-enable it.  The "connect automatically" settings for some of my existing Wi-Fi routers do not appear, so that I have to connect manually every time.   Any suggestions woiud be greatly appreciated.  Should I ask tech support for new hardware?

I have a 3444-CUU that I really love. When I first got it I realised the wireless adapter would just randomly stop working. I updated every possible driver and I'm still having the same issues. All I can do is reset the adapter to get it kicking again. I'm not sure if the wifi care is soldered or if it could be removed or replaced but I'm really leaning towards it being a hardware issue. It'll either stop working could turkey, won't detect any wireless networks or it'll stop working and I can still view other wireless networks but I cannot connect to them. Resetting the adapter is the only option. As I'm writing this right now the wireless has gone out again. So I have to reset the adapter for 5-10 more minutes of internet just so that I can post this. Anyone else experiencing these issues?

I have a T470 hooked to a Lenovo USB-C dock. Both laptop and dock have latest updates, BIOS and dock firmware. Two DVI monitors are connected to the dock's DP ports with DP2DVI adapters.I got following two issues: 1. When laptop is connected to the dock and while waking it up from sleep mode, one of the monitors stays black (does not wake up) while the other one does. Pressing the monitor's power button to turn it off, and then on again, brings it to liffe. I'm pretty sure that it's a driver/firmaware issue, because it used to happen with an older USB 3 dock that I had and it was fresolved later on by a DisaplyLink driver/firmware upgrade. 2. Audio quality is noticably worse when headset is connected to the USB-C dock versus directly to the T470. When connected to the laptop, the active controller is RealTek High Definition Audio which has Dolby enhancements in its properties. When connected to the dock, the controller is ThinkPad USB-C Dock USB Audio which does not have these configuration tabs at all. I wonder if that's just a limitation of the dock station's hardware, or is it something that can be fixed by a driver/firmware release.

Hi there, since I bought this device, I am having issues with audio. It never plays where I want! If I plug head speakers, some apps will play on the head speakers, other on the regular speakers. Issues grow when you have a HDMI screen with speakers and a onelink dock... Right now I am trying to play a video on the head speakers, and it is playing on the screen, and the only way to make it work is to disable all devices except the head speakers. How can I force apps to play on one device or another? It's driving me crazy! Thank you.

Hey All, Windows 10 on a Yoga 12, connected to a Onelink Pro Dock.  When the device is off the dock, it plays the sound through the laptop speakers, without a problem. When the device is plugged into the dock, it plays the sound through the laptop speakers, still. If we go into Sound Properties, and change the default device to the Onelink Dock, it does not seem to effect where it plays sounds from. ....HOWEVER, it will play the windows sounds through the speakers, but will continue to play any other sound (VLC/Youtube etc) through the laptop speakers. In Windows, it shows both devices as working, and functioning. If i disable the laptop speakers, and just leave the onelink dock speakers. It doesn't seem to correct the issue. Any thoughts? Anyone else having issues? Thanks,Isaiah

Answer:Yoga 12, Onelink Pro Dock, Audio Switching Issues

I recall one time where the sound was definitely not coming from where it should have been coming, but I don't run into this with any regularity. I recall at the time that I was not able to mute the sound, because the volume control was controlling one device, whereas the sound was coming from another. This was with Windows 10, a TP Yoga 12, and the OneLink Pro dock.

At work, I have just been given an awesome new X230 with a Mini Dock Series 3 docking station. I installed Windows 8 Professional instead of the Windows 7 which was installed per default. I love it, and it is super fast, but I have one issue: when I put the X230 on the docking station and plug my earphones into the mini-jack of the docking station, I get no sound. It works fine under the following setups (in all cases, the laptop is docked): Headphones plugged into the laptop and audio device set to "headphones"Headphones unplugged and audio device set to speakerIn all other cases, I get no sound. I'd like to fix this so I can plug the headphones into the back of the docking station, rather than into the side of the laptop. Thanks in advance :-)

I'm having some issues with the Bluetooth audio quality on my 3rd Gen X1 Carbon. My system is equipped with the Intel Wireless-AC 7265 Dual Band adapter.I have the latest drivers for the adapter, but this occurred even before updating them. I'm running Windows 10 with the latest updates. The machine shipped with Windows 7 and the problem occurred under Windows 7 as well. This issue occurs with both Bluetooth wireless headphones I own. Both pairs of headphones work fine with my Moto X Android phone operating in the same environment. What happens is that I get things that sound like static or popping while listening to any audio over Bluetooth. It doesn't seem to have an identifiable pattern, but it happens 1-5 times per minute. It'll happen with any audio source, including local music files, local video files, streaming music, & streaming video. These problems do not occur with wired headphones with the same sources.
I can temporarily fix the problem by telling the computer to forget the Bluetooth headphones, turning my headphones off, and then turning them back on and repairing. That'll cure it for a few hours to a few days, but then it annoyingly comes back.
Any help would be appreciated!

Answer:X1 Carbon 3rd Gen Bluetooth Audio Issues (static popping clicks)

If your device starts making crackling noises during audio playback, which happened to me, you can easily fix it. Go into Sound (right click on speaker icon in lower right taskbar, click on playback). Click on the current device (the one with the green check mark on it) and click on properties in the lower right corner. Click on advanced tab, and uncheck"'Enable audio enhancements" under "Signal Enhancements". Click apply. You should be good to go.

Hi, I just got a new ThinkPad W540 running Windows 7, 64 bit. I have two audio issues. First, there is a constant buzzing coming out of the speakers.  It goes away if I mute the speakers, but remains if the speakers aren't muted, or if headphones are plugged in. Second, if I have the soudns turned on, and headphones connected, when Windows starts, the startup sound comes out of the speakers and not the headphones. I have seen the issues connected to my docking station, and when the laptop is on its own. I have updated all of the drivers, but that did not help. Any ideas? Thanks

Dear all, would like to inquire if X220 will operate with two external monitor? I'm ok to close the lid of my X220.The 4337 docks support VGA and DVI, will both work together? What's working:- I have been using x220 screen with another external monitor through VGA connection.- Connecting Dell 2340L direct to VGA works with X220 screen, not with 2 external monitor. What's not working:- Recently got a Dell 2340L which contains only VGA and HDMI, which I thought HDMI would work with an adaptor (HDMI to DVI) port - no response although the Windows 7 detects external monitor display.

When I dock the computer and press the power button on the dock it doesn't recognize my monitor as the main screen. I have to hit a key (Windows 10) and put in my password hoping that it's doing that and then the screen comes up. If I reboot after that ... THEN.... it recognizes my screen as the main monitor. How do I fix this? The only time this happens is when I use it off the dock and then put it back on. If it stays on the dock all the time it does just fine. Any fixes for this? Thanks...

I currently have my ThinkPad T440s connected to two external monitors via the ThinkPad ProDock 40A10090US (One VGA and the other DVI-D). I currently have the two monitors and the laptop displaying separate desktops. However looking at the laptop screen is a pain when switching back and forth between the two large monitors and the laptop. I was curious if my current setup with the T440s and the Pro Dock (40A10090US) could support three monitors (One cloning the laptop screen)?

Answer:ThinkPad T440s + ThinkPad Pro Dock 40A10090US = Triple Monitor?

I don't know if you can use both the on-laptop DisplayPort and the dock DVI-D at the same time, but if you can, you should be able to get the three monitors of output you want. Not sure if you can force it to clone the laptop display, but you might as well skip the internal display entirely.

I hooked the one Acer monitor directly to the monitor port, and it works perfectly.  I then hooked the other through a Triton SS2 Extreme UV200 External DVI/VGA Video Card as was recommended for me to do so.  The Triton has a USB plug which I then connected to one of the USB ports on the back of the docking station, and loaded the software.  Everything worked great but the 2nd monitor screen enlarges everything.  So I though I could just go into the control panel and adjust that monitors settings.  However, the system is only recognizing the monitor in the monitor port of the docking station.  In the connection directions, it says the 2nd monitor has to be connected to the other USB port that is not standard and is on the far left of the back of the dock with an emblem the has 2 "+" signs stacked on each other followed by a bold "D" (I think).  I have tried to see if there is an adapter to convert the standard USB to fit this other port, and no one has been able to help me.  Does anyone have any recommendations, idea's or knowledge of how to work through this?  Thanks.

that is the Displayport, which can be converted to a DVI or VGA port using an appropriate adapter. But there is no USB adapter for the Displayport, as they use a different technology.

If you shut down the mahcine and turn it back on when docked it works, but after this point if undocked and docked again it seems to lose it's ability to charge via the dock giving the "plugged in but not charging" message on the power system icon from the taskbar. As it stands the laptop can be charged by the AC port on the back and as mentioned when given a power cycle on the dock. The above issue happens on several docks with different power supplies. The laptop is no longer in warranty and it is possible to get this sent back and repaired (paying for the service) if that is an option. This is greatly inconvenient for the user affected and is causing disruption daily.

Does the Thinkpad P51s support the Thinkpad Thunderbolt 3 Dock? I have the Thinkpad P51s with stock Windows 10 Pro and updated to latest drivers and Windows version and installed the latest Thinkpad Thunderbolt 3 Dock drivers. Attaching the Thunderbolt 3 Dock to the P51s as described in documentation, it charges the notebook, however, noting attached to the dock is recognized. I've tested with attaching USB flash drives, headphones, Ethernet, HDMI, and DP, but nothing is recognized nor are any warnings/errors displayed in Windows. While the Thinkpad Thunderbolt 3 Dock is listed as being compatible with the P51s and T570, the notebook order page does not list the Thunderbolt 3 Dock in any of the accessories lists. Lenovo Sales also confirmed that the Thunderbolt 3 Dock is fully compatible with the P51s.  However, I needed to purchase the Thunderbolt 3 Dock separately from the notebook order. What's going on? Has anybody successfully used the P51s or the T570 with the Thinkpad Thunderbolt 3 Dock? Or is this something I need to wait for full support via a future BIOS/driver update? Or perhaps my Thunderbolt 3 Dock is defective? Thanks,Boris

Have hit audio issues with upgrade to Windows 10 from originaly shipped W8.1. At first the issue showed up as failed Flash/Shockwave in Edge and IE11. Diagnosed down to an upgrade of the original Conexant SmartAudio HD driver. If I reverted to the original W8.1 driver Flash/Shockwave started working again and audio (including Dolby) worked fine. However, Windows update constantly tried to re-upgrade the Conexant Driver requiring me to constantly revert back. Now with Windows 10 TH2 upgrade I can no longer seem to be able to revert and am stuck on Conexant CX20751 SmartAudio HD version 8.66.16.50 (2015/9/7) even though the downloadable package for my machine J9ABO6WW shows version 8.65.17.50 (2015/6/09) is current. I have tried downloading it and re-installing after deleteing all drivers and CONEXANT packages and still it forces back to the 8.6616.50 driver. What's more - I now have a second instance in Device Manager under Sound,Video and Game of a driver named High Definition Audio Device with a file version 10.0.10586.0 th_2 release 151029-1700 by Microsoft! If I delete this driver/device, audio stops working completely. If I disable it, audio works (including Dolby) and Flash/Shockwave works. If I delete the CONEXANT and leave the Microsoft driver enabled, audio works but Dolby application tells me I have the wrong audio driver installed! (I have read that the Dolby feature is tied to the manufacturer - in this case Lenovo). I have searched for the driv... Read more

Is there a Graphics Adapter that will drive a second monitor that can be used in the ThinkPad Advanced Dock with a ThinkPad T61? Background:  I have a ThinkPad T61 (6465-CTO) running Window XP and a ThinkPad Advanced Dock.  I purchased a Lenovo 256MB ATI X1300LE Dual ? VGA or Dual ? DVI ? out PCI ? e Graphics Adapter so I could run two 24" (1920 x 1200) monitors.  I should have check notes on the X1300LE more carfully, for this configuration is not supported by Lenovo.  The failure mode is interesting.  The T61 can access a wireless router alone or in the ThinkPad Advanced Dock without the ATI X1300LE.  But if I install the ATI X1300LE in ThinkPad Advanced Dock I can no longer access the wireless router.  If I plug in the network cable then I can access the network.  In this configuration the Intel® Wireless WiFi Link 4965AGN has a yellow circle with an ! on in the Device Manager.  The device status is ?This device cannot start. (Code 10)."  Note I have not tried the system with a second monitor yet.  Another option would be to keep the ATI X1300LE, and add a USP Wireless device.  Have anyone tried a similar configuration?  Sincerely yours, Marc

Hi, I have several X1-Carbons that will not go to screen saver when attached to the USB 3.0 dock. All systems are running Windows 7 Pro, SP1. Latest drivers from System Update. We have tried changing PM settings but still stays active on dock. Off dock all systems respond as expected. The problem is my company has a 15 minute lockout policy based on the screensaver. Since the X1-Carbon does not comply we need to find a solution. Has anyone else seen this? Thanks, Ray Laureyns

Just got a new X1 Carbon.  Love the laptop (though memory utilization on this thing is high).  I'm not a fan of the USB Dock.  The position of the USB 3 port on the laptop and the USB 3 cord to the dock get in the way of using a mouse, and really clutters the desktop with all the power cords and USB cable.  I've had a couple issues with it also.  1)  Lost network connectivity.  A couple times now, I'll be working away, and Windows shows "Unidentified Network" and I can't get to anything.  ipconfig /renew doesn't correct it.  I power off the dock and power it back on and the network comes back. 2)  USB Wireless Mouse.  With the USB receiver plugged into the dock, mouse behavior is erratic.  I'm using a Logitech.  My boss experienced the same issue with a Lenovo wireless mouse, and reverted back to a corded mouse.  I moved my USB receiver to the laptop USB port and mousing works just fine.  I've double checked that I'm using all the latest drivers for the mouse and the dock, and system update doesn't have any drivers to offer me.

For your first problem, get a right angle USB adapter. I bought one of these:http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/181004002735?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649#ht_3782wt...I haven't received it yet, but no reason it shouldn't work. I'm pretty sure I've bought the right direction. The picture looks correct. They also have "left angle" ones which are still right angles - they just bend the other way.

Really odd issue I'm seeing, I've never seen before, Unable to get the usb and dock ports working on a new X1 Carbon laptop we deployed at my Company. Reinstalling Intel USB 3.0 eXtensible Host Driver will cause the dock to immediately be recognized (Everything Works). Upon Reboot, Laptop will no longer recognize dock, its shown as detached, also USB keyboard and mouse will also no longer be recognized even if plugged directly into laptop. Or, with no reboot, the Dock and USB ports will just randomly shut off and no longer work. Other laptops work fine with the dock, so its not a dock issue. Anyone have any ideas? ----- All critical Windows updates Applied. Updated All Drivers to most current version. Updated BIOS to most current version. Updated Pro Dock Software to most current version. Updated Lenovo Solution center to most current version. Not seeing anything that jumps out in the event viewer. Ran Hardware Diagnostics Again, Everything Passed.

Hi, Is it possible to turn on the X1 carbon when plugged into the dock without opening the lid?  I don't see a way.  I have configured it to not sleep when plugged in so that you can open it turn it on and close it.  Is the dock supposed to supply power or does the laptop need to have the AC adapter plugged in to charge? Does it matter what port I plug the dock into?  The SS USB 3.0 port doesn't seem to work with it.  No mouse or keyboard and the monitors keep switching between the laptop and the externals.

Answer:X1 Carbon and USB Dock 3.0 questions

you have to turn on the laptop by pressing the on/off button on the laptop, the usb dock on/off switch doesn't control the power state the laptop. Dock needs its own power supply. You would need to use the USB 3.0 port if you are going to use the 2 x DVI ports and higher speed transfer rate for your usb ports on the dock.

I posted a similar question earlier and people referred me to the Yoga (much appreciated).  However, I was interested in the 2.6 lb carbon version with touch screen capabilities.  Asus has a Spin 7 model that is very good at 2.65lb, but I miss the red mouse toggle in the middle of the keyboard and Asus's track pad was designed too large....causing unintended tapping.  The Yoga, while nice, is heavier than I was looking for.  The 14 inch screen is about 3.3lb? the 12 inch at 3? I thought that some of the earlier Thinkpad Carbons had touch screen and was hoping they would make a return soon.  Thanks,

Hi, I have a X1 Carbon and a OneLink Pro dock. I have it setup with evey thing working, no issue's whatsoever. My concern is that when the laptop is completly charged while connected to the dock, is there any way to switch to battery while staying connected to the dock to be able to use the extrnal monitor, ethernet, and usb ports etc? What i have noticed is that even when the battery is 100% charged , the dock keeps charging as the battery doesnt fall below 100% and in long term it will reduce the battery life. Thanks.

Answer:X1 Carbon (2014) and OneLink Pro Dock

Hello eddie_313

If I understand, you are concerned that the OneLink Pro dock will overcharge the battery, which will reduce battery life? The battery is designed to prevent overcharging, so although the OneLink Pro dock is used and the meter shows fully charged, the battery is not being charged continuously.

Best regards,

I just received my X1 Carbon 3rd gen.  8Gb Memory, I7-5600U, 512Gb SSD (PCIe), 2560x1440 WQHD non-touch screen, and OneLink Pro Dock.  Things seem to be running smoothly the 3rd time I reloaded the O/S from the recovery partition and set up the machine and Windows 8.1 with the software I needed.  There are three anomolies that occur when I boot the machine by itself, after shutting it down while on the docking station and removing it completely. 1) One out of two times I boot the machine the trackpoint doesn't work; the touchpad works fine.  Half the time the trackpoint doesn't work, the buttons do.2) When un-docked and I open Firefox portable, or File Manager, or a number of other applications, the size of the window(s) look about the same (proportionally) as it does on the Samsung 24" 1920x1200 while using the docking station.  However, Internet Explorer (v11) is sized about half of it's proportional size.  So, on the docking station the IE window would be 11.5" x 9" (as would Firefox portable) and would change to 2.5" x 2.5" on the un-docked X1 screen, while Firefox would retain its proportional size (maybe something like 7" x 5.5").3)  I've altered the"Change the size of all items" on the Samsung on the docking station to "Smaller" (far left on the slider).  It's set to "Middle" (middle of slider) for the undocked screen.  On the undocked screen the text is fine everywhere but icons are really small. The main problem ... I recently purchased the X1 CRBON 5TH Gen (2017)...type 20HR plus a thunderbolt dock.I connected them together with a Dell 28" 4K (@30Hz) screen (p2815q) connected through DisplayPort from the dock, plus a Microsoft keyboard and Jabra 510 USB speakerphone.Using the Windows 10 stock image from Lenovo, plus Office 2016, Chrome, Visual Studio, Skype,  and various other apps (putty, RDP, SAP GUI, others) the video performance was atrociously bad. Alt-Tab, which I use heavily would take 3-4 seconds to respond, switching between applications, Windows would freeze and sometimes crash, I would often get blank or black windows in Chrome and Office. This was on the embedded Thinkpad screen as well as the external monitor.I ensured Windows Update was up to date, as well as Bios, Drivers etc through the Lenovo companion app. So...I dove into the BIOS and voila! There is a switch that lets me change the Video memory from 256 to 512 MB allocated!I went to change it, and it would not change until I changed the setting:BIOS > Config > Thunderbolt 3 > Security Level = from "User Authority" to "DisplayPort and USB"I switched that setting, and then set my video memory to 512 MB, rebooted and voila! Problem solved. I worked that way for a little while, took it into my office and plugged it back into my Thunderbolt 3 dock and while my video and LAN connections worked...my wireless keyboard (USB dongle), and Jabra 510 did not. Hey, Funny enough this has nothing to do with the dock itself. Just opened up laptop the other day and in the bottom right it says that "ThinkPad OneLink Dock Attached!" I have malwarebytes and I ran a scan today and found nothing. Any ideas?Morten Nissov

Answer:Carbon X1 4th Gen OneLink Dock Issue

The Onelink dock doesn't connect to USB, "Onelink" is lenovo's special dock/accessory port.  For a 4th gen, it should be Onelink+, which is a thin port about 1" wide located next to the power port on the left edge of the laptop.  That said, if the laptop says the dock is connected even though you don't have a onelink+ dock and have never connected one, there is definitely something wrong.  I'd probably suggest calling Lenovo support, and/or exchanging it for a different laptop through your reseller.

I want to use the USB 3.0 Dock to boot up SCCM winpe (on a USB Flash Drive) to build the X1 Carbon. I can get the USB 2.0 dongle NIC working but prefer to use the USB 3.0 Dock. The X1 Carbon has all the latest drivers including the USB 2.0 NIC and USB 3.0 Dock. I used Drivermax to extract all the drivers on the X1 Carbon and created the SCCM bootmedia. What I am really after are the NIC drivers for the Dock! When I boot up the X1 Carbon with the Dock connected, the BIOS does see the USB Flash Drive and will boot from it but it hasnt got the correct NIC drivers for it.

Hello anybody, I got the brand new Carbon X1 with i7-5600U and OneLink Pro couple days ago and I have issues ever since.I have 2 main issues. 1. Laptop alone works like a charm, but when I connect the laptop to oneLink I can't get an image on my second exterior display via dvi nor via vga. The computer finds the screen and name etc, but when I want double or extend or only screen 2 projection nothing happens on the external screen. It keeps saying no input. I have tried to reinstall dock driver, change resolution, updated even bios, still nothing happens. 2. This problem is even more disturbing. If my computer is turned off or restarted while connected to OneLink dock pro, it won't start and freezes at lenovo logo. If I pust laptop to sleep while conected it boots normaly, if i turn it off not connected, then connect it and start it also boots normaly. But when it is shut down while conected it doesn't. Not even if i turn it off while connected, unplug it and turn it on. I have to do reset in this case. Guys I really need help, since those issues make my dock almost completly useless.HELP! Tilen_T

Whenever I turn on one of our new 4th X1 laptops through the onelink+ dock I can't get any display on either of my screens (external and on the laptop). On some of them I'm able to enter our harddrive pwd, and then nothing happens, all screens go black, and nothing but the kill switch can get back the display. The monitor(s) do not go into power saving mode. This is on Windows 7 x64, with a std. clean image, and using the latest sccm driver package from Lenovo website + latest dock Onelink + dock driver. The issue also occurs on a manual clean install, using systemupdate to install all drivers.

We have one setup with 2 Dell 24" Ultrasharp monitors (U2412M) using the display port and DVI port.  The fact that I couldn't get native resolution of the screens when having dual monitors is strike one but I understand.  If you only have 1 of them i would get native resolutions with the display port. Anyways I had problems with the machine crashing and always when docked.  I made sure the dock had the latest firmware and that the driver was also updated.  It crashed so much that eventually the hard drive got corrupted.  It kept showing NTFS errors so Lenovo replaced the drive for me.  I was really crossing my fingers hoping the drive was bad in the first place thus all my problems. Nope it still crashes! So disapointed because the client loves her laptop but just can't use it with the onelink pro dock.Anyone have a similiar experience or recommendations?  I already have the latest drivers too.
