I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi BSOD squad, I hope you are able to tell me what caused this BSOD today.

Background: Intel Compute Stick, used as HTPC. Never had any issues, works like a charm. Upgraded last night to build 10547 EN-GB x86.

Today VPN connection to Finland to watch news from Finnish TV, switch VPN to Sweden to watch Swedish news, switched VPN to UK to watch rugby when at the same moment the VPN told connection is established I got the BSOD. VPN is CyberGhost version 5.0.15.14 (15.9.7.5IE), the latest.

Specs summary:
Attachment 38240

DM Log Collector ZIP: Attachment 38241

Thanks in advance,

Kari

Answer:Intel Compute Stick, first BSOD

Hi Kari ^_^,
I am trying to analyse the dump file but I am getting symbol errors. Furthermore, the WinDBG stalls when trying to run any command for your dump file at least on my system
But, I managed to see that the problem is indeed being caused by your VPN software.

If you really like your VPN, I would suggest you to contact their support services and raise a ticket.
Let me know how it goes ^_^

Good day to all,

This is my first post in this forum and I actually discovered it by searching at the Internet, after having the same problem (installation of Windows 10 new Update 1511- nersion 10586) with my Intel Compute Stick, which was bought to serve me as an everyday-use-quick-access computer on my TV screen.

The Stick was initilally bought about two weeks ago from a major computer store here, in Greece. As soon as I brought it home, I connected it on a screen, attached a USB hub with a USB keyboard & mouse set and an external USB stick of 32 GB capacity. Soon after performing the first settings, the Stick went to Windows updates and after downloading and installed the first available ones, it came to a point, when the update 1511 (newer version 10586 of Windows 10) started been downloaded and installed.

The installation froze at about 76% of the process and I had to shut it down and restart it, getting back to the previous version of Windows 10. I tried several options to repeat that, but it became impossible. At the beginning, when I did several attempts on it, I had the impression that the required free space on the embedded eMMC card of 32 GB (the "system disc" of the Stick) was not enough to accept the update (it requires at least a free space of 15GB on the disc, to be installed). However, even when I made enough space free for this, by deleting all Temporary Files, including those of the previous operating system and I was hoping that the instal... Read more

Hey guys, I have a slight problem.

I purchased a Intel Compute Stick STCK1A8LFC and did not realise it was only supported for or came installed with Ubuntu on it.

I am trying to install Windows 10 on it. During install I am constantly getting Windows ran into a problem and needs to reboot. When I can get the installation to initiate, I cannot select my MicroUSB drive to install windows. This only has 8GB of built in storage on it. But the micro SD does not show as a partition in the installation window.

I managed to get one windows OS installed, but again when booting, I am getting the error windows ran into a problem and needs to reboot.

I really dont want to have to fork out on another one, is there any way to get windows installed on this beast!

Cheers

Can you install Windows 7 on a Intel compute stick?

Answer:Can you install Windows 7 on a Intel compute stick?

Those sticks use either Atom Bay Trail or the newer Cherry Trail SoCs that never had official support under Windows 7. It's probably possible, I've not seen anything on others trying to install Windows 7 on devices with these Atoms before. I'd say that Windows 10 is probably better suited for these kinds of devices anyway. Linux distros are officially support on some of them as well.

G'day Frank & All

I have just received this from the US and it installed and set up OK on a Samsung TV.
Details are...
Model - STCK1A32WFC
SA# - H85498-100
S/N - GEFC53500HR5
It came pre-installed with Windows 10

It connected perfectly to my home wifi and when I open Windows 10 it accesses the Weather and other things like News and Money etc.

But when I open "Edge" which appears to be the browser it brings up a Bing search box but no matter what I try to access from the net using this or typing into the URL box nothing happens. It appears to search but the screen remains blank. Similarly when I click on the lower taskbar which says Search the web?

I have checked things like Windows blockers and cookies etc but all appears OK.

Any suggestions gratefully recieved.

I had Ubuntu 16.10 loaded on this stick but the o/s proved too much for it. I ended up swapping it out for a lighter-weight Debian based distribution which is still installed as far as I recall. I would like to reinstall Win10 now ( it came with Win8.1 + upgrade to Win10), but I have run into this error, see title.

I'm afraid I can't provide any more info.

I have updated the firmware with this file and it finished installing successfully but still no cigar. The boot order is set to USB media and secure boot is disabled. I have tried Windows Media creation tool, Win10 iso using Rufus etc etc. All end in BSOD.

Anyone any ideas?

TIA

HelloI write here because I can not contact support by email, i have never confirmation My problème :After the 1511 windows 10 upgrade, the stick does not start correctly.I have only a black screen (after Lenovo screen) or the troubleshooting screen. I cant restore or reset the system (error) orrestore my W8.1 system image backup: w10 tells me that he does not format hdd on which troubleshooting software is running & I must boot from an ext hdd. Problem: I can not boot from a USB drive or usb cdromWhat is the procedure to boot on usb? I only have the choice of booting from the internal disk. I have found nothing in the bios (Bios O27KT07A). Thank you for your help Sorry for my english i am french.

Answer:Lenovo ideacentre Stick 300 crash

https://communities.intel.com/thread/93643 Read the whole thread, and you'll understand what's happening. Turning off write cache for the internal SSD is the key. You can boot from a USB stick formatted with the pre-autumn update build W10 install package from Microsoft. The link to MS's original download page is still live, I found it through searching I seem to remember. Some sticks work, some do not. This is true of all PCs due to weird spec changes that happened. If the install program detects the stick, it will work. After installing, turn off write cache to the SSD before updating to the latest version of Windows 10. Problem solved. Do NOT turn write cache back on for the SSD or your system will become unstable.

Anyone experience this?  I plan on using this primarily with a printer (no display) and want it to remain on at all times.  I've gone in to try and mess with power settings but it seems I only have a setting for display, so I checked it to make sure it is always on (display).  This seems to keep the stick from falling asleep, which is exactly what I want.   Still messing around with it, I figured I would turn the display off over night and turn back on when I came in to see if the stick was still on.  When I turned the monitor on , I got a "no source signal" message.  While the blue light of the device was on, it seemed that it may have gone to sleep or shut down by itself.  I tried to type on the keyboard to wake it up but nothing.   I basically had to restart it. Anybody know if this is possible?  I need the thing to always be awake without a monitor.  Thanks. I'm running the Windows 10 stick with the updated BIOS

I have this old 300-01IBY Stick from Lenovo I bought a few years ago... I am using the adapter that came with it (2A) yet it seems to be randomly shutting off in the middle of playing a video mostly if it's high def YouTube or anything very graphical Kodi for example movies it will shut down. It is connected to my 50 inch television. Anyone else experiencing this? Is it just not powerful enough to handle those sorts of tasks? I really don't think it's down to the adapter or cable since I am using the provided one that came with it. Also it's currently running Windows 10.

Hello, I picked up a Ideacentre 300 Stick from Frys this afternoon. This unit is preloaded with Windows 10. Upon boot up, windows will load, but as soon as I begin to sign in, the stick dies. (Not a normal shut down just dead) At this time I cannot get past the login screen with out it flat out dying. I have to hold the power button down to get it to come back. I have it plugged in directly to the wall outlet using the included adapter cable and brick. Any Ideas??

Hello, I just purchased the Lenovo Ideacentre Stick 300 today to have a little home theatre PC thing in a small form-factor. I plugged it in with the HDMI Extender (if I didn't I wouldn't be able to press the power button), and it was working. I connected to my WiFi network (which is 2.5 GHz), and I opened Edge to download Firefox and test some things. The WiFi was going on and off though, saying Limited, and even not allowing any connections. Can anyone help with this problem? Thanks.

Hello, I recently bought a lenovo 300 stick. Once I plugged it in it was running smoothly but the wifi was very slow. I checked my router if it supported 802.11n and it does, For all 3: 802.11 b/g/n. Then I decided to download some updates, but that made it worse. I got a yellow exclamation stating "can't connect to wifi"  Then I did some fooling around in the settings and decided to disable VPN and that lead me to having a wifi signal with an asterisk.  Can anyone help me with this situation. I also did a factory reset and will be checking it out tonight. Please advise! thank you, Anthony

My 300-01IBY won't boot anymore after bios update today. Unsually I don't update the bios unless there is an issue. In this case, I have to update because I ran into issue updating WIndows 10. According to the support web page for 300-01IBY, I have to apply the bios update to resolve the issue. I downloaded o27kt10aus.exe and followed the instructions verbatimly. The stick now no longer boot and it is a $160 brick. It goes into an endless loop of LED flashing with no signal to the display. I called technical support and I was told that my warranty has expired and nothing can be done. I thought I can trust the drivers/updates provided on Lenovo's offical website but now I have to think twice for Lenovo's quality. It is too late for me to find out that other users in this forum reported bios update issue. I wish Lenovo will take on the responsibility to issue a recall with this particular issue. I used to be a very happy Lenovo customer until today.

Answer:Ideacentre Stick 300-01IBY not booting after Bios Update

It is an quick update. There is a customer care manager assigned to my case. Unfortunately, Lenovo has no courage to take on the responsible to look into the issue. It was the firmware update that broke a good functioning device. I  am now questioning how Lenovo's development/engineering team tested the firmware. If you are looking for quality assurance, I am sorry that you won't find it with Lenovo. I am prepare to fight this all the way. I might be wasting my time but it is a matter of principle. Stay tune!

First off, how in the world did my warrenty expire in September 2016 when I bought the thing in January!! I started having issues a week ago with random crashes. I guessed it was from overheating, but it always seamed to run warm. I attempted to reset Windows, because that's the first thing any tech support person will tell you to do; and it never completed the reset process. Why? Probably because it shuts off after a few minutes of being on. As of now, if I try to boot it, the Lenovo splash screen plays, then it shuts off again. If I get any errors (now) it tells me Windows failed to start, and must reboot. But it just turns itself off, instead of rebooting. And the cycle repeats. So, how do I go about opening a Warrenty ticket if you say the item expired long before I even bought the thing from the store?? And when I'm on your website and go to "Correct Warrenty Expiration Issues", I get Error Code: c5cf42042019561e10e66b34f119cbd1???

I ordered an K450 IdeaCentre with a Nvidia GT630M video card back in February. Everything was fine, until when we wanted to play some games for my son- we couldnt' play them. We realized that our K450 unit had the Intel 4600HD chipset and NOT the Nvidia GT630M video card. I was so angry that Lenovo decided to ship me a lower video card hoping that I wouldn't recognize that I had that lower card. I called them and they're saying there's nothing they can do about it. Saying that it's past the 14-day return policy. I asked to speak to supervisor to escalate this and we'll see what happens.  I didnt' think Lenovo as a big company would do this - duping customers with lower quality video cards - hoping that the customer is not as tech savvy to figure this out.

Answer:Lenovo shipped me lower/cheaper video card and not the Nvidia GT630M for my IdeaCentre K450

The part number that I specifically ordered is - 57RF0135  so instead, I got the Intel 4600HD integrated graphics chipset.

Anyone know of a netbook (small laptop) that has a pointing stick / trackpoint like IBM has on most of their regular sized notebooks?

I love the trackpoints to the point that i wont buy a notebook without one.
The touchpad only option is so 1990's

Id love to get a ASUS eee, but there's no way ill by one, or a similar netbook that dont have a trackpoint.

Other names the keyboard mouse trackpoint goes by for tagging / searching purposes:

TrackPoint
PointStick
NX Point
Pointing
StickPoint
QuickPoint
Track Stick
AccuPoint
FineTrack
Mouse emulator
Pointing Stick

Thanks for looking.

Hello People

I've searched for hours now with google but I didn't find anything useful about either how a Trackpoint works or how one of these can be repaired.

I'm doing this because I want to get my old Compaq LTE5300 working neatly again. It's not as useful as a laptop rightnow because of a broken trackpoint and a broken battery. I've already found a tutorial how to get NiCd and NiMh Batteries working again. Going to try that tomorrow.
Well, there's another possibility for getting a TrackPoint to that old Compaq:
I've got a broken Toshiba with Trackpoint as well (Motherboard or Screen or both gone). That Trackpoint works well with the Compaq. Only problem is that I can't use the connectors to put that Trackpoint anywhere outside the case. Question: How do I prolong foil wrapped cables?

Maybe I'm writing a bit confused, but that's only because it's late here in CH.

Greetings Hans

What will work better performance wise, adding one more stick of 2 gig making all dual channel or putting in just two 2x4 gig sticks in the dual channel mode.
THANKS

Answer:Adding System Ram: one more stick or putting in new stick?

It won't make any noticeable difference one way or another. Your current 6GB will probably never all be used nor will be the 8GB.

I am just starting out learning Windows 7. I am reading an ebook by Mclean and Thomas titled ?Configuring Windows 7?

In chapter 1 regarding installing Windows 7 using a USB source, the procedure to prepare the USB device is as follows:

1. Connect the USB storage device to a computer running Windows 7 or Windows Vista.
Ensure that the storage device has no data stored on it that you want to keep (or that
you have moved such data to another storage device) because this procedure removes
all existing data.
2. Open an elevated command prompt and type diskpart.
3. At the DISKPART> prompt, type list disk. Identify which disk connected to the
computer
represents the USB storage device.
4. At the DISKPART> prompt, type select disk X where X is the number of the disk that
you have identified as the USB storage device.
5. At the DISKPART> prompt, type clean. When the disk is clean, type create partition
primary.
6. At the DISKPART> prompt, type format fs=fat32 quick. When the format is completed
type active and then exit.
7. After you have completed these steps, copy all the files located on the Windows 7
installation DVD to the USB storage device.
8. Configure the BIOS computer on which you want to install Windows 7 to boot from
the USB storage device. Attach the USB storage device and then reboot the computer
to start installation.

Why do you need to go through the above rigmarole when you can just go to My Computer, right click the USB drive, format foll... Read more

BBC iPlayer site

I bought the Intel Compute Stick in order to stream video from the BBC iPlayer in the UK (where I live) to my TV.
When it arrived it had W8.1 installed. I installed Firefox as my preferred browser and used it to access iPlayer.
This worked reasonably although not brilliantly. (I had to use a wired network connection via a USB/RJ45 adapter as the wireless was too slow and unreliable. Also a USB keyboard and mouse as bluetooth dropped out too often)
Now I have 'updated' to W10 (32bit) I can access the BBC iPlayer site but cannot play any video. The video window remains black and the mouse pointer flickers a few times. It also flickers a few times when I then close the tab. All the add-ons appear to be up-to-date.
I am able to access iPlayer video using other computers on the network running W10 but mostly 64bit.
Any suggestions - hopefully apart from binning the compute stick or reverting to W8.1-?

HI There, I have some really strange behaviour going on at the moment - firstly, my Surface Pro 4 just BSOD and wouldn't o up again so after being on the phone to MS support they are replacing the whole device . I noticed that my network was very slow so I reset my router / flashed nd added a TPLIBK R600 VPN router with SPI firewall runing and Im currently using an Intel PC on a stick STK1AW32SC that Ive now reloaded windows 3 times as it too is behaving in a manner that is not at all logical or normal Even typing now it is missing words out and I only have one browser window open! Im running ESET Internet Security with some pretty tight rules in place however, the machine is showing outbound TCP & UDP connections on a whole array of ports from 61000-65923 (System Process) 49666-49669 (svchost) and the 'system'PID 4 has a local IP connected of 192.168.56.1 when my local IP range is 192.168.0.1 to 192.168.0.50. Services that I keep disabling are re-inabling by themself and the mouse will even move by itself even though I check and it states im running in console 0. I compltely formatted the drive and ran a freshly downloaded copy of Win 10 Home from a fresh USB drive. Yet it still created a hidden directory called $SYSReset that has some log files and a directory called 'scratch' that has a csrss.exe in it. There are many other strange things going on and I wold really appreciate some assistance resolving this issue. I am convinced that the attack happens on the internal n... Read more

One advantage of the Lenovo Stick 300 over (at least the low end) Intel Compute Sticks, is that the Lenovo Stick 300 (at least the 90F20001UK model) is that it has TPM chip.  That means that it supports transparent SSD encryption/decryption in Windows 10 using BitLocker. As things stand right now, you have to upgrade your copy of Windows 10 Home to Windows 10 Professional.  Once you do that, you can turn on BitLocker and encrypt your SSD.  I did that and it works fine! This doesn't protect against viruses or someone discovring your WIndows password, but it does protect against someone getting your Stick, booting another OS from the USB slot, and then recovering your data.

I replaced the Ericsson modem by a MSATA disk. However would like to use the Lenovo SIM card. How can I do it? Is it possible to use it with an USB stick? Which one would work? How can it be set up?Any ideas?Klaus

Answer:Use Lenovo SIM card in a USB stick

USB sticks have much worse signal reception than internal modems using integrated antennas around displays. There is also danger that you can mechanically damage the USB port (needs system board replace to fix it) when moving the notebook with the USB stick and brush against something. As for Lenovo SIM I don't know because the contract between Lenovo and mobile operators is unknown for me.

I got a Lenovo X201 on Friday and on Saturday I set about backing up the recovery partition onto a usb stick. I inserted an 8gb usb stick and let it do it's thing.  After plugging the stick into the machine and trying to boot from it to test it works I got a message saying No Windows, or in other word the usb stick was not bootable. After reading some forum messages one suggestion was the stick had to be formatted in fat32.  Fortunately I didn't just format it and try again as when I went back into the recovery partition backup software it gave me a rude message saying you have done a backup once so you are not allowed to do it again. To me this seems quite pointless as I cannot see for what purpose I would want to use the Lenovo recovery partition other than on my computer but I assume it is something to do with a licensing restriction. In any event after quite a substantial bit of my reading, of which there was nothing really on point, I stumbled across this thread and the message by the_solutor: http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/X-Series-ThinkPad-Laptops/X100e-Make-bootable-usb-stick-of-recovery-CD/t... It correctly gave me the idea of using the Windows 7 bootable usb creator http://store.microsoft.com/Help/ISO-Tool to create a bootable usb, delete all files from it apart from the couple of boot files in the root then copy over to it the files the Lenovo partition backup program put on my other usb stick.  After doing this I am t... Hi all,I have several USB sticks that contain a bootable version of Ghost.  It should be noted that these all work fine with other lenovo laptops (e.g. L450, T450) when booting/imaging from USB 3 ports- but although the T560 boots into ghost, when selecting the USB drive in the dropdown options from within ghost there are no files listed - even though I know for sure that the USB stick does contain files. Wondering if the newer chipset on the T560's is having an effect here with the USB 3 ports. Anyone else having issues booting from the T560 USB ports ? Cheers V

Is there a driver update that needs to be done? When I go to Display in Control Panel, it does identify the display as Sony TV, but no luck for audio. Another issue I have noticed is that the Stick will also not detect a MicroSD card when inserted in it. I hope I did not get a dud, and this can be resolved by updates. Please help.

Hi guys, I bought a ibm x41 laptop for a young artist on a $60 budget. I figure I throw in some money and time to make it usable. Problem with xp tablet edition 2005 is I'm getting 'tablet version mismatch' alert when booting up Photoshop and Manga studio. How do I iron out that issue as pressure sensitivty is quite erratic with it. Only Photoshop cs6 is problematic with pressure while sketchbook pro and manga studio is all good. I tried uninstallling the wacom and hid interface drivers manually and tried installing whatever lenovo provides on their site. All see to work now except the conflict in Manga Studio and Photoshop. I think windows 7 would be ideal to use but weary as the current hdd it takes as this drive is only 40gb.If previous or current owners have a method to correct drivers you'll make a young artist very happy. Thanks in advance.

I had a T61 with 2Gb (factory installed 1+1), which I recently upgraded with a 2Gb module. I replaced the first 1Gb module installed. The second or remaining module I left as 1Gb since I don't anticipate using a 64 bit OS anytime. 40Y7735 2GB PC2 5300 DDR2 SDRAM   (Mfg part #: 40Y7735)  I too have Vista 32, which will only recognize a total of 3Gb of installed RAM.  You can always try to sell the spare 1Gb module on eBay...  BTW...there has been no noticable performance increase of my T61 since this upgrade.  It's still the same dog it's always been, and quite frankly the worst experience I've had with any of the past 5 thinkpads I've owned. Cheers, Mark

Hi all, I am new to this forum. I have been looking for solutions to my problem and stumbled upon the site. I hope there are experts here who can help me.I purchased a non-running Lenovo IdeaPad N585-7510 thinking that I could repair it. I have had success with Acer and HP laptops with similar problems. This laptop's problem is the rather common "black screen syndrome". When I power it on, the power light comes on, the battery light comes on, the optical drive spins up and the system fan spins up. Nothing else. No display, no POST. I can't enter the BIOS and pressing the little OneKey button beside the power button (while the laptop is turned off) does nothing. I have tried draining the residual power from the laptop, then replugging it to AC power and trying to turn it on. Nothing. In itself, this is not that alarming. With other laptops, I have made a recovery USB stick containing the specific computer model's BIOS file from the manufacturer's website and, by pressing a variety of keys during startup, have been able to re-flash the motherboard BIOS chip. The problem with this particular model is that Lenovo does not have a BIOS file for it on their website. I spent an hour on the phone with Tech Support and they tell me that no such BIOS file exists. All they offer is for me to send them the computer (3 months out of warranty) and for 80 bucks, they'll have a look at it. Then, they will contact me to tell me how much they will charge me to repair it. Since I can get an e... Read more

Hi there, I have a very nasty problem. But I could not uninstall the Intel Network Connection driver. Welcome to the forum! Download and burn a copy of a "live" Linux CD and boot from it. If your wired and wireless LAN work OK there, there's a driver issue within Windows. If they don't , there's a hardware problem. One distro that should work out of the box on a R40 is Mint, choose from here: www.linuxmint.com Good luck.

10-31-2015 @ 4.25pm On the A740, I figured out that it will allow 16GB laptop RAM stick in its single memory slot. However, I did find out that a 16GB single-slot laptop memory stick will work on the A740and will get you to 16GB memory on only one memory slot (which the A740 has). The A730 was easier because it has two memory stick slots (so you could do 2 * 8gb = 16GB),but A740 only has one memory slot.  Therefore, you can not go with two of the cheaper 8gbmemory, because you have to spend more on the 16GB single-stick laptop.  So, hopethis helps other people.

Answer:I'm debating on an AMD PC (+ more accessories, since it's cheaper) or an Intel PC

If you've got a little extra money to work with I'd recommend giving Intel a hard look ... the difference in price isn't what it used to be.

Hi Guys was looking to my son a decent laptop for making uni,  he's kinda mentioned the z500 i7 but I only had a budget of around £650, is it cheaper to buy from Lenovo itself or could I buy it cheaper elsewhere. kind regards

Answer:lenovo z500 i7 can i buy it cheaper from lenovo

hi numbnuts,

Welcome to the Forums.

Upon checking the lenovo website, it is indeed cheaper if you get it from there: http://shop.lenovo.com/gb/en/laptops/ideapad/z-series/z500/

The only downside is, you may need to wait a bit as it ships in 1-2 weeks.

okay well, i got my new stick of RAM today, 1 day shipping, gotta love newegg.. its the exact same kind of RAM im already using, brand and everything.. i have 1GB of ram in this computer right now, i tried installing the second gig of RAM and the computer turns on, but theres no picture on the monitor, no bios or anything, green light on the monitor just blinks.. i took the stick out, and my computer works fine.. why cant i install the second stick of ram? my mobo holds up to 4gigs so i should be good.. im using the MSI k9n6pgm2-v motherboard with corsair RAM (CORSAIR XMS2 1GB 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800)

Answer:help with new RAM stick..

Try taking out the old RAM stick and putting in the new RAM stick in it's place.
If its doing the same thing after...
"no picture on the monitor, no bios or anything, green light on the monitor just blinks"
It's a bad RAM chip. Send it back to Newegg for a replacement.

I have misplaced a very important usb memory stick, is there a way that I can tell when I last used the stick on my laptop?

Answer:Last use of USB stick

None that I can think of.

You don't actually have your only copy of important files on a single media, right?

Question: using a USB stick

I have seen these used at work on win 2000 machines and XP machines however my need is to use one with win 98sefor information to be transfered to a winxp machine I have gotten involved with a misbehaving pc and hopefully I will be needing to transfer information from my pc to the usb stick for transfering to the rogue pc as there is no floppy drive on the other machine having no idea of how this is done...can anyone oblige with an idiots guide ?

Answer:using a USB stick

For the windows 98se machine, you will have to install drivers to get the usb drive to be recognised and work. You must load the drivers before you plug the drive into the windows 98se usb port. When you have the drivers loaded on the 98se machine, just plug in the usb drive. Then it's just a case of plugging in the drive into either the 98se or XP machine. It will show as a removable drive. You just then drag and drop any file you want into the associated drive letter of the usb stick.

Question: About Ram stick

Hi all,I come again there.I want to append another memory .My pc have Kingston 256 MB  DDR RAM (KVR400X64C3A/256).I want to upgrade 512 MB.My CPU  is intel celeron 2.20 GHz.But I don't know what means  (KVR400X64C3A/256) and which memory stick should I install .How many kinds of memory?Pls guide me some instructions. Thanks and Regards!Green

Answer:About Ram stick

sounds like you have an older MoBo.  Do you have another expansion slot??   You could probably find another 256 in the dumpster and test it out but if your looking to put 1Gb in than you could get the Samsung or the hynix cheaper than the Kingston 512's

My dad (novice user) has an old Compaq, roughly 1ghz old-school Celeron and other similarly crappy stats, which he uses for business (MS Word 03) and general home use (web, mail via tbird, scanning, printing, storing digital photos). Despite being well-set-up and well-maintained, this sucker is just annoyingly slow.

He's ready for a new machine, but I'm having trouble figuring out the best way to do it. Based on my opinion, as a person who's still using XP and has never used Vista or 7, here is my ideal scenario:

*Purchase a cheap but fast computer, e.g.
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Compaq+...rive/9963938.p?id=1218202472178&skuId=9963938

*Find a shelf copy of XP home
*Patch
*Install AVG free, Spybot SD, Spyware Blaster
*Install existing copy of MS Word 03

THE UPSIDE:

*Don't have to drop a chunk of cash on a new copy of MS Word (and possibly learn a new interface) or manage any potential differences between file types (he has a large library of previous work files which he often needs to access for the purposes of new work)
*Don't have to learn new OS interface quirks, if any (note, my dad is a user who tends to require specific step-by-step instructions for any new or unfamiliar tasks)
*Don't have new OS/app bloat soaking up the newly-purchased computing power
*No worries about existing peripherals working (may be a non-issue)
THE DOWNSIDE:

*Where to find a shelf copy of XP?
*Paying retail for the shelf copy
*Does choosing XP substanti... Read more

Answer:New PC for Dad: stick with XP or go to 7?

The fact that the new machine may not work with xp, driver wise. Most new pcs are coming with hardware that hasn't got any or limited driver's for xp. Xp will run out of support from ms sooner then later i think, not sure on dates or anything, but eventually will have to learn a new os. I would go ahead and get him a windows 7 machine, and teach him how to use it. Thats my 2 Cents anyhow.

Question: USB DVB-T Stick

Anyone got any experiences with using the above on laptops. I am particularly concerned with the qulaity of recption available through any included aerial (most of the time I will be away from a normal TV point).Any personal experiences and recommendations would be most appreciated, especially if the product is available on the high-street (as usual, when I get an urge, I want it today!).Thx all.

Answer:USB DVB-T Stick

I have the Freecom one. It works well but you have to be in a good reception area.In hotel rooms, you can use the TV aerial to get better reception.

The New Lumia 535 is about to launch in India. I currently own a 720. Is it worthy enough of an upgrade? Even for a low price, it seems to pack a lotta features. So any opinions? It would also be helpful if you could highlight the downsides. Help is appreciated!

Hi, I'm buying a new PC soon and there's an option to have XP or Vista wih it.
I've had XP for a few years, it does a good job and I'm fully familiar with it; but I hear rumbles that Vista can't run some older games ad flight sims etc, so do I really need to go for Vista?
Is it a huge advance over XP or what?
Thanks

Answer:Shall I stick with XP?

From what I hear, Vista is not that good. It is a memory hog, and there are not many changes. It's mostly for gaming, but even for that it is not always compatible.
It's generally accepted that Windows XP is much better than Vista.

I currently have 21 inch NEC monitor and I love it, but it's a monster. I do play alot of games, but with my current setup I can't enjoy 1600 X 1200 resolutions anymore on the newer games (F.E.A.R). I'm looking to build a new computer, AMD X2 4800, and a 7800 GTX. I was wanting to buy the Viewsonic VP930, but since I'm used to my current monitor I was wondering if I would still enjoy surfing and gaming by downgrading (so to speak) to an LCD. I'm just asking for opinions or suggestions. I know I have a great, but huge, monitor now, and the Viewsonic monitor is probably one of the best 19 inch LCD's around.

Answer:Should I stick with CRT or go LCD

I switched from a 19" viewsonic CRT to a 19" sony LCD earlier this year. the sony has a 12ms response time and I have seen no blurring or ghosting in games or movies. I really like the LCD, it is much easier on my eyes than the CRT. if you are an avid gamer I would look for a LCD with at least 12ms, and preferrably 8ms response times.

Question: U.S.B.stick

Having used a removable U.S.B. stick for quite a while for back up of small files, I have bought a new P.C. and find that I can't use it on the new system, I am receiving "device is not formatted do you wish to format" obviously if I do format it, I will lose everything stored there. Have tried it one several other P.Cs with the same result. the whole idea of these is to be able to transfer files from P.C to P.C.Any ideas anyone?

Answer:U.S.B.stick

Sounds like it is damaged somehow - do you have the original PC on which you wrote to the USB stick?

Help please!I have a Sky+ box. Two of the outputs on the back are RF Out 1 and RF Out 2. RF Out 2 has a standard coax cable running to my bedroom. RF Out 1 has a standard coax cable running to a laptop. The laptop does not have a tv card, so the cable is connected to an MSI USB TV stick. The software provided with the stick is Presto!PVR. The TV in the bedroom works just fine (with a Magic Eye connected too) but the Presto PVR software does not detect any signal from the Sky+ box. What am I doing wrong???

Answer:Sky + to USB TV stick

It may be the case that the USB TV Stick has a tuner built in and it is looking for signals from a standard aerial (not a digital signal from Sky+).I don't know for sure but I know there is a difference between the USB TV sticks and a PCI TV Capture card.RegardsFitshase
