I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

W10 Hp 17" Envy Laptop.

Took some photos yesterday on my Panasonic camera, downloaded them via SDHC card but for some reason they are being auto rotated to 90deg from the vertical both in landscape and portrait. This is in viewer and my photo editing programme.

Even when looking at them in explorer when they are the correct orientation when I try to insert them in MS Word they are are at 90degs. In Word it doesn't seem to matter if I have rotated them in viewer or not they still end up 'on their side'.

It's doing my head in.

Can any one help please?

Hi Mayfly,

I have been looking around a bit and found something that could solve the problem. Could you have a look if your camera has the same option as described in this screenshot? http://imgur.com/a/Eso2q

Hi @Sabrinawang06,Thank you for visiting the HP Forums! A great place where you can find solutions for your issues with help from the community!I came across your post about the Notebook, and wanted to assist you! I have looked into your issue about your HP Pavilion x360 Convertible  and the auto rotate not working correctly. I would make sure all updates have been done on the Notebook first. Restart the Notebook. Here is a link to show you how to configure and disable the screen rotation feature. Checking first that is has not been disabled and it is on Portrait mode. The Multi-Sensor Enabling Driver enables the Accelerometer, Gyroscope, and eCompass sensors that provide rotation control functionality typically used in tablets and cellular phones. Here is the download sp68464.exe Please let me know how this goes.Thanks.

Hi, I am looking all over to find an answer to my question about the windows photo viewer and cannot find anywhere. Please if you can't answer my question at least set me in the right direction??? When I go to print, it tells me that I can choose
only the "full photo" size. I know it also has choices of wallet, 5x7, double picture side by side, stuff like that. It will not ever show up when I hit print and go to put in all the variables for how I want the picture to be printed. Where are
my choices? how do I find them, why are they not available on my photo viewer print option? I am working on an asus laptop, I think it is an 8.1 operateing system. But,,, I also have the same problem with my other laptops and desk top  programs. It will
not give me the option to print out wallet size pictures or any of the other options except "Full Photo". Help! Thank you in advance. Oh and I have no idea where to find the answer to this question so I am giving you my email to send it too if your
able. Please send to don ee me be at hot mail .com (I hope you figure this out because it says I can't send you any links and now I don't know how to get your answers. ) . Please this has been a mystery for the last 3 years now.
I give up trying to find a repair on my own. I am not so tech savvy. Again, thank you, thank you , thank you in advance. sincerely, donna

Hi, I recently bought a Samsung U28E850R 4K Monitor, going for the rotated model, but while I've Googled and eventually managed to get Windows 10 to bring back the Rotation Lock option on the right-hand menu thing, and I've tried a number of setting changes in the auto-rotation section within the Registry, nothing is working, here.

When I rotate the monitor, it says '90 degrees' or '0 degrees' depending which way I've turned it, but the portrait/landscape still has to be changed on the PC, which is a royal pain when I have to move the mouse at a 90-degree angle - it's like a task in the Crystal Maze!

Any further Googling just brings up how to solve this on tablets but NOTHING for Desktop

Can someone help, please? Ta.

Hi, just want to let you know Lenovo Team, that there are some issues to fix: Auto Rotate on: The Start menue flips in vertical mode although it is in normal Laptop mode after the Start. After some time, it rotates back in the correct position.  Brightness issue: Windows, or the driver, forgets the brightness setting after a restart of the system. When I turn the brightness down or up, the visual control unit is in the correct position, but the brightness step is as big as it is necessary to reach the correct value for the corresponding position of the control unit on the screen. I hope you understand what I mean, my english is not the best.

Hello everyone, so I performed a fresh install of windows 8 Pro on my Lenovo flex 3-1120. After installation I struggled getting most of the drivers for the laptop but finally came through with all with the exception of one with hardware id  ACPI\VEN_DUAL&DEV_250E I have tried all I can to get this driver but to no avail. From the little I know, I understand its somehow connected with the bitland g-sensor which will make my laptop recognise and switch (rotate) into standing, tent, or tablet mode. I have downloaded and installed all Bitland G-sensor I have come across on lenovo driver page and, it still not working. Any help will be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Hi guys, just wondered if anyone else is having the same problem and found a solution for me to attempt: After upgrading to Windows 10, the Yoga 11 isn't rotating properly. I've unlocked rotation via the manual button, and by going into tablet mode and changing the settings. Nada. It's stuck on the laptop orientation. (This inability to switch orientation defeats the whole functionality of a Yoga hybrid.) I've restarted once, and the autoration seemed to work fine after that, whether in tablet mode or tent mode or laptop mode...for a while. Now it's jinxed again. I didn't encounter this problem prior to the upgrade. Is there a more permanent way to fix the glitch than restarting ad infinitum? Suggestions welcome. Thanks!

Answer:My Surface Pro 3 auto screen rotation stopped. How do I make it auto rotate again?

IDK if it will help, but if an external display is connected or a type cover is attached (and in typing position), the surface is automatically locked in landscape. So, maybe try disconnecting either or both of those if connected. Probably won't help your situation, just thought I'd throw that out there.

I recently just upgraded my laptop and I am so upset to see that Windows 10 does not have the Windows Photo Viewer or the Windows Live Photo Gallery- these two programs offer ways of printing photos (such as printing 2 4x6 or 5x7 pics on one page) and simple/quick one click enhancement features that I cannot find anywhere else! The Microsoft photo viewer that came with the PC is useless - it has no options or features! Help please or suggestions!!!!

Answer:Any way to get the Windows Photo Viewer & Windows Live Photo Gallery?

Yeah the default app isn't great. The old photo viewer can be enabled if you did an upgrade from 7 I believe. I think those with a clean install of 10 are bang out of luck though. I'm sure Brink posted a tutorial on how to do it but I'll need to dig around

Also XP mode on this machine opens them fine.
This is strange, I can resize the pics and no difference.
Something has changed in the microsoft photo viewer from XP to 7.

I'm having a small problem with Windows Photo Viewer. Well, I don't know if it's just how it was setup, but it seems like when I view a photo using Windows Photo Viewer it seems like a hint vanilla is added to the picture. It seems to do this regardless of whether I have the picture just opened or if it's zoomed in. The only time it doesn't do this is during a slideshow. I'm attaching a picture to show what I mean about how the color is slightly different. Any help anyone can offer on this is appreciated.

Not a major problem for me, but a bit distracting.
The problem is the WPV over-saturates any photos I'm looking at. They look fine in Photoshop, bridge, web browser, but always slightly over-saturated with extra blacks thrown in, even cranked ISO. Doesn't happen with all photos, but mainly the ones I took with my camera. I'm working on W7, any knowledge on this would be great, thanks.

I saved all my pictures by numbers. Therefore, #1 will be the oldest one, #2 will be the 2nd oldest, and so on.

Anyone have any clue why all image files show up tinted sepia in windows photo viewer (right side of pic). I included the same file open in MSPaint on the left, and the actual game in the background to compare.

I thought at one point disabling my background wallpaper caused images to show normally in win Photo viewer, but I guess I was wrong. I did change something once to make them appear correctly (and with a white instead of tan background in photo viewer) but I can't remember what!

-Edit-
*Sigh* Sorry, I figured it out, i was googling the wrong term before. Deleting default color profile assigned to my monitor fixed it.

This sector of TSG I think is the nearest to what I'm trying to find out about. I am using Windows 8.1 and my question is, "Is Windows Photo Viewer only available to view photo's when a device is connected".
I have a load of photo's taken on my mobile which now I can only view on WPV when the mobile's connected. I have tried to locate it to view images but without a hit. I know its there some where because when I go down the list of program files on OS. (C) drive, it is there but I don't know how to access it unless the mobile is connected via usb. So my second question is, "Where and how, if possible can I locate it to bring up to the screen".
I'll keep my fingers crossed, thanks

Answer:Windows 10 Photo Viewer

Honestly I don't mind the Metro photo viewer. I didn't think I'd like it at first..but hell, it has GIF support again! All I ever used it for was browsing pics on my drive, and then it was just using the left/right keys 90% of the time to browse through 'em.

I am having a problem with Windows Photo Viewer freezing every time I open a picture. it will display the "loading" message but if I try to use any of the buttons or close out, it is completely frozen. I have to force close Windows Photo Viewer and it doesn't generate a report and the "not responding" message just closes with the program then and doesn't send it to Microsoft. it always does this, every picture

windows photo viewer can't open this picture because either photo viewer doesn't support this file format or you don't have the latest updates to photo viewer
I keep getting this error when I try to look at photos, I have recently moved my dads photos onto a new terabyte memory stick but a majority of the photos wont work and I am worried because these photos are special to my dad.

Answer:problems with windows photo viewer

Just a few thoughts...
What is the extension of the photos? JPG?
Try copying one back to your HDD and see if you can view it then.
How is the 1TB drive formatted, it should be exfat but if NTFS this may be the problem.

Hi,
on my Windows 7 Ultimate x64 machine, I just calibrated my Dell SP2309W monitor using an i1DisplayPro and basICColor 5, creating a ICC v2 profile (I am aware of the problems under Windows with ICC v4 profiles).
It created the ICC profile and applied it to be used by Windows. I double checked under COLOR MANAGEMENT that the new ICC profile is being used as the default profile. Although I can see that the new ICC is being used (desktop appearance changes), there
are is an issue I am experiencing:
Windows Photo Viewer
The thumbnails in Windows Explorer look fine (they DO use the new ICC profile), when I double click a jpeg and open the image in Windows Photo Viewer it
DOES NOT use the new ICC profile. When I click the PLAY SLIDESHOW button (starting the slideshow) in the opened image in Windows Photo Viewer, the images
DO use the new ICC profile.
Why does the single image display in Windows Photo Viewer not use the currently used ICC profile ?
FYI, All current internet browser (Firefox, IE, Safari and Chrome) DO
use the new ICC profile and display the image correctly.

Thank you for your help !

- M

Answer:Windows Photo Viewer And ICC Profiles

Vincent, they are all installed correctly...

Here's what I assume after running multiple tests:
(1.) Windows Photo Viewer by default honors embedded profiles in images and displays them accordingly to that profile
> if an image is untagged (no profile embedded) it will default to sRGB IEC 61966-2.1 - always ignoring the specified system default profile (my custom profile)
(2.) Windows Photo Viewer in Slideshow Mode does the exact opposite. It ignores embedded profiles and displays all images via the specified system default profile (my custom profile)
--> internet browser do the same thing
Can you confirm this ?

Cough. Hi there fellow forumers. I need your help. I've already know this problem of mine is a rather common problem among Windows 10 users. When I wish to open a picture with our good old Windows Photo Viewer, simply nothing happens or even if something does happen, that's an error message that's it.
It's not like there is a problem with the new "Photos" app but it's quite slow compared to the old one and crashes more frequent than it should...
Is there any way to solve my problem? I'd be really grateful if some could help me out.
Thank you very much for your effort.

I have been using Windows Vista Photo Viewer on my laptop.

I am now using a Windows 7 laptop and the photo viewer is different.

The feature that I lost and I liked was the Red Eye Correction Tool.
I could go thur hundreds on photos on the SD card and very quickly fix and save the red eye problem.
Now I have to use Irfanview or another photo editor to fix red eye. Much slower and another step.

My question is:

Does anyone know if I can copy the Vista version of photo viewer to my Windows 7 or XP Computers ??
And if so how is it done ??

Thanks in advance.

For reference, I'm using Ultimate 64-bit edition. And if this helps at all, this just started happening after I recovered from a screwy dual-boot session with Ubuntu (The Windows MBR got messed up and the drive wouldn't show until I fixed it via recovery disc).

So yeah, simply put whenever I double-click a photo file that normally opens with WPV, it won't open. Nothing happens. Same with right-clicking and "Open" or "Open with...WPV".

Also a strange thing to note is when I do right-click, there appear to be 3 unlisted things in the right-click menu as shown.

Hopefully somebody can help me out?

On my Windows 7 machine, Windows Photo Viewer will not open. I double click an image so I can view it but it will not open. I click it a number of times, it still won't open. At this point, I open the task manager and see that COM Surrogate (dllhost.exe) which houses Windows Photo Viewer is running only as a process with a process ID of 76D0CB12-7604-4048-B83C-1005C7DDC503. That process ID doesn't get any hits on Google. There is one Microsoft result, but that is dealing with multiple user accounts that are trying to use Windows Photo Viewer, I am the only account and nobody else is using Windows Photo Viewer on the computer but me, so that does not apply.

Hello. I am experiencing a problem with this COM Surrogate while viewing some (!) of my pictures. I tried to search for the solutions through different forums, but none helps me with that. Windows Photo Viewer works fine with the photos that were already for quite a long time on, but newer, downloaded or created via paint - it seems this doesn't work properly there. It works really slow and 95% chances are that it will freeze eventually. The strange thing is that I restored my system on 5-6 days back, and after it has done its restoration, I checked all the photos that were having trouble to be opened. They worked fine .. until the following day though.. I did not install any update and started to check, whether it works ok or not.

Solutions:
Delete adobe InDesign, Version Cue and OnLocation - failed. (CS5 and had no Version Cue.. could not find it there).
Update KIS with certain patch - is not for me. I am using ESETNod32.
System restore - failed as well (but i ll try once more).
Have no Nero or DivX - installed.
turning off Data Execution Prevention on dllhost - haven't tried yet, but I read it makes the security or protection at some point less effective.. would like to avoid doing this then..

I am running W7...

Answer:Windows Photo Viewer - COM Surrogate

Check Reliability Monitor - see what installed on your system prior to the problems starting -

Hi TacticalTimbo,

Yes I get the same glitch but not always. I thought my RAM was playing up as I've overclocked my 920d0 to 4ghz, 20x200 and ram at 1600.

Was getting worried but I also have Windows 7 at work and it does the same so it's definately a Windows 7 glitch. Infact, I use to get the same glitch on Vista too.

I want to DISABLE windows photo viewer.
I have already associated the picture types to programs I use and they come up fine.  When I print, the photo viewer comes up and am FORCED to print from that program.  The problem is, that it is not working - the colors are inverted and incorrect.
All attempts to fix them in color management have failed.

Answer:Disable Photo Viewer in Windows 7

Hi,

Thanks for the post!

I suggest you change the default program for that types of picture.

Click Start - input default programs in search bar -
set your default programs – Windows Photo Viewer – Choose defaults for this program, do not select the type that you want to print.

If it doesn’t work, please try to remove the preview by modifying the registry. Please backup the registry before you modify it.

Click Stat – input Regedit in search bar, navigate to
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT/SystemFileAssociations/image/ShellEx/ContexMenuHandles
Then delete the key ShellImagePreview.

WPV runs as a .dll on dllhost.exe. You would have to find the command line - probably something like dllhost.exe <path of photo viewer.dll>.But I suggest you install free Irfanview instead, for much more functionality.

Hi UshereI'm not aware of any way to do that with the Photo Viewer. If you are viewing a picture in a folder that contains multiple pictures, you can scan through all of the pictures in that folder by using the right/left Arrow Keys or by clicking the right/left buttons at the bottom of the screen.Hope this helps.Thank You for testing Windows 7

OK... I am a paralegal that does social security disability work. All SS files are now electronic. When we need exhibits in a file, SS sends the exhibits to us on a CD. This was fine when I used a computer with XP, as when I launched the CD, Windows Picture and Fax Viewer automatically came up adn I could view the documents I wanted to see. I now have a new computer with Vista Home Premium and can't seem to open the docs on the CDs.

Hello, this message is for Brink.

Just to let you know your tip for making the photo viewer app work in 10 has worked nearly perfectly: but i did discover one small issue and i was hoping you'd know what causes it, and that you could post it and email it to me.

when I open the viewer, I cannot scroll beyond the last photo (returning to the first photo in the directory) Also, when I open any photo after the first one, I cannot scroll backward to the first one. for example, if i have 10 pictures and i open picture 5, i cannot loop back to pictures 1 2 3 or 4. if i open picture 1 i can scroll forward to picture 10, and back to picture 1, but if i open picture 10, i can only see picture 10. i cannot carousel around the photos in that directory. it seems to be linear and not looping.

I hope that this is an easy fix. We are going to 10 at my jobsite and so far the photo store had wreaked havoc on us. we have since disabled the store, but that disables all store related apps and functions, which defaults pictures to MSPAINT. So, i was hoping to get back to the windows 7 photo viewer and happened upon your advice (thank you), and im hoping for just one more tweak to make it perfect.

I'm looking for something to view 'scrolling screen shots' like I could in XP with the default viewer. It was so simple & uncomplicated. Now everything has a gazillion buttons, etc.

While I had XP & was posting at another forum I could for example, get a 'scrolling shot' of the entire Event Viewer with FastStoneCapture, view it in the Pic Viewer & post it as a scrolling window.

Boy, I hope this makes sense to anyone reading it.

Thanks,

Alright, seeing as I've been combing the internet trying every solution in an attempt to fix this problem, I thought maybe someone here might be able to help.

Earlier today, for some reason, Windows Photo Viewer decided to stop working. I say decided because it was working fine, opening images without any issues, before it suddenly and inexplicably decided to stop working. As such, I have since tried the following steps, none of which have worked:

1. Rebooted My PC
2. Reinstalled Windows Essentials 2012 since this is part of that now
3. Run both windows diagnostic tools from their support webpages on this issue, both of which said that the problem was fixed, when it has not been fixed. Both also said they "fixed" the problem by fixing the database, even though it still isn't working.
4. I manually went into the "appdata/local/microsoft/windows live photo gallery" directory and removed the file that said Oldpicture.pd4, as it said that I should to do this manually, however I found no replacement file that I should rename anywhere else, so I don't exactly know where I was supposed to get that based on the instructions provided.

I am now thoroughly stumped as to what I am supposed to to fix this issue. Any and all help would be appreciated.

Answer:Windows Photo Viewer Will Not Open

Windows Photo Viewer is part of Windows 7; I'm not sure where you got the idea that Windows Essentials 2012 is now part of it. I do not have Windows Live Essentials 2012 installed. (ah, Photo Gallery is not the same as photo viewer).
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-live/photo-gallery
that requires Silverlight to work.
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/products/features/photo-gallery

Click on the orb/start program button and select All programs then Default Programs.
When you click Set your default programs in the right pane of the window that pops up, do you see Windows Photo Viewer in the left pane?

When you click on it, you have 2 options: set this program as default or choose defaults for this program. (With the 2nd entry, you can select it to open certain extensions but not others).

If it truly has disappeared from your computer, run sfc /scannow to put it back where it belongs.

Last week I asked a friend of mine how I can make the animations in GIFs move in Windows Photo Viewer.

I was told to go to Control Panel>Programs>Default Programs>Set your program defaults>Windows Photo Viewer and checked a box that said GIF.

Seemed to be fine from there.

And NOW, for whatever reason, the GIF now opens in my web browser. I make the GIF opened by Windows Photo Viewer (default program) and went through every step to make it a default everything for GIF, even making WPV default for all file types, and when I went back to open the GIF, the GIF does not move, thus having me sit with the same problem I began with.

When I went back to the program defaults page with the checkboxes, the checkbox was unchecked but the application that opened it said "Internet Explorer."

How can this be after I made WPV the default program??

Odd, I downloaded IrFanview for a quick fix and strangely, when I went into system defaults like I did and went through the checkbox list of file extentions, IrFanview was in the place of Internet Explorer for the GIF extention.

Is this a bug of some sorts? Did I make sense somehow?

How can I get DNG files to open with Windows Photo Viewer?

Answer:DNG Files in Windows Photo Viewer

You might want to read this (older) article that goes up through Windows 7, and hope it applies to 8 and 10 as well: How to view DNG thumbnails in Windows. On the other hand, you might want to grab a DNG capable codec instead. Here's one from Adobe that may do just want you want it to in Windows Photo Viewer: Adobe DNG Codec.HTH,

Hi Guys

I have a picture that I regulary print form windows. I normally do runs of 100 copies of this at a time. The file has always opened in Windows Photo Viewer as standard, and I just print it.

In Windows 7 it again opens in Windows Photo Viewer, and it prints it fine. The problem being that if you ask it to print more than once it seems to send the data to the printer for each and every page. So when i just printed 100 copys of this image it sent it to the printer it took flipping ages.

I know I could easily use different software to resolve this issue, but just thought I would point out this seemingly simple flaw in the software.

Answer:Windows Photo Viewer (Printing)

Welcome to the SevenForums Mafro!

Someone might be able to help with some added info:

Printer model?
Driver version?
Driver Source?
Windows 7 version?

It's known that the Photo viewer in explorer of W7 is extremely slow with large files.
It takes forever since it time and again crawls trough the files.
The Firestone Viewer for instance is much faster.

However, if you like to upload to Photobucket, you are directed to that silly Windows routine that runs like an old snail.

Is there a way to speed up that proces?
Found somewhere the option to prevent the cache from being cleared.
But it won't work with conflicting permissions. The system may clear things and the user account may not?

(By the way, I haven't created any monitor profiles)

Answer:Windows Photo Viewer very slow

Even of you havent created any monitor profiles... its good to check if the color management Device profile is set to the system default (sRGB IEC61966-2.1)..

do you have printers installed. ??? what color profile are they using....??

if you are trying to view RAW camera images... try to update photo viewer with the RAW support....

I am sending a .jpg file that I created with the PAINT program to let a user know that I have remotely done some work on his computer. I would want this message (jpg) to show on his monitor until he closes it.He has Windows7 with Windows Photo Viewer that I would like to display the jpg with regardless of his default settings or other graphic programs that might open the jpg.The presentation with WPV is just what I want.I think a batch file might work but I don;t know enough about creating one.Anybody?William Lockie

Answer:Always open jpg with Windows Photo Viewer

If you have access to his account (and I won't comment on the legalities of having such), you possibly could just use WPV as the default viewer for .jpg images; then insert the image into the Start-Up folder. Upon starting up (theoretically) it should display the image. Of course, if he had another default program for .jpg images, he may not appreciate you changing the association to WPV."Channeling the spirit of jboy..."

I really liked the Windows Photo Viewer in Windows 7... The photo viewer built into Windows 10 is terrible.

Anyone know any good replacements? Something light weight.

#1 Why isn't this the default photo viewer for Windows 7?? It's flat out better than the one that comes standard with Windows(even though it looks similar, it has a 'fix' and 'slidshow' feature which is very nice for a home user that is new to computers)

#2 How do I make it default for ALL users? I would be tickled pink to know!

#3 Thanks for all your support! I couldn't have made it to this place without you!

#1 Probably has something to do with not getting dinged on bundling as the EU is on a rampage to protect its budget, consumers I mean.

I'm putting 3 photos on an A4 Word page to print on photo paper. One is A5 and the other 2 are A6 but I need to rotate the smaller ones 90 degrees to fit on the page. After clicking on the photo I can alter brightness etc but is there a rotating tool available?

Answer:Photo rotation in Word

One option is to open the image with Irfanview, rotate, save and then paste into Word. Long way round perhaps, but it will work!

Before the update, I had installed Windows Photo Viewer and could go to Control Panel > Default Programs and click "Set this program as default" or "Choose defaults for this program".

Now, if I click Set this program as default it doesn't do anything, still says 2 out of 12 of defaults, and if I click the 2nd option: Choose defaults for this program, the list wipes no matter how much I check mark off. If I check mark all the file types, it erases the minute I click okay.

Any fixes? This glitch didn't happen before the most recent update. I really would like to use Windows Photo Viewer instead of the Photos program that comes with the computer. I should be able to change it as I could before.

Write soon please!

Answer:Help! Can't set Windows Photo Viewer as default program!

Hello supervegeta, and welcome to Ten Forums.

A new build often resets items back to default. You might see if going through the tutorial below to restore Windows Photo Viewer again may help.

Because there might not be enough available memory on your computer...blah blah.

THere is plently of physical and available memory. This problem started when we were trying to switch our Epson Workforce 600 printer to grey scale. So, you would think that the following advice would be the fix:

Use the below mentioned steps and check if this resolves your issue -

Click Start and go to Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Display\Screen Resolution and click advanced settings.
Go into color management and click color management.
Under devices tick use my settings for this device and the highlight and delete the profile associated with this device
Refer to the below link for the resolution -http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en/w7itproappcompat/thread/7b6ae08b-4b5c-443b-9d43-e87ca5e7aeb1
Hope this helps. Let us know the results.
Thanks,
Meghmala – Microsoft Support
But, alas, it does not help.
This solution doesn't work because I have no profiles listed for the monitor under the Color Management utility.
And I clearly have enough RAM.

So, is there a way to uninstall photo viewer and reinstall? Any other ideas?

Answer:Windows Photo Viewer can't open this picture...

I am running Windows 7 Ver 6.1 Build 7600.
