Preferred Solution: problem in copying files from PC to pendrive

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi,

I had a problem with my Windows 7 laptop. It starts when I trying copying some stuff from my netbook to the my Windows 7 laptop via pendrive. I cannot click directly because it shows:

F:\
Application not found.

The popup above didn't come if the pendrive doesn't have any stuff. Beside that, the files that copied from pendrive can be corrupted. I had formatted my pendrive many times but the issue still exist.

Good Afternoon, Gentlemen
I realise I am being a bit boring, but does anyone know of a - preferably free - programme that can copy a number of programmes to another device. I do regular backups but I would like to be able to pre-programme some files that have our bank and share details to a safe place whenever I want to do so. I know that 'Copy' does that, but each file has to be copied individually. I would like one click and they are all copied!

Answer:Copying to another site or pendrive

write a batch file in notepad -
copy (sourcepath\file name) (destination)
for each file
eg
copy c:\users\fred\documents\bank statment.jpg e:\backup\bank
write a line in your batch file foe each file to be copied (paste each line and just change the file name.
save the file as backup.exe and the use windows scheduler to run th file at set times or just click the file to run it when you want.

Hi,

Well, when I copy files on my external HDD, it's going fast, until the 1st file is done, after the 1st file, it doesn't really freeze, but stops for like 4-6 secs, and then it suddenly moves on again, with low transfer speed which increases. This happens for each file

e.g.

Quote:
Copying 13 files ? 300MB

{Copying speed: 35MB/s (constantly changing)

Files remaining: 13

Green bar goes up constantly}

~green bar stops moving, transfer speed rate stops changing for 4-6 secs~

{Copying speed: 20MB/s (constantly going up)

Files remaining: 12

Green bar goes up again}

~green bar stops moving, transfer speed rate stops changing for 4-6 secs~

{Copying speed: 20MB/s (constantly going up)

Files remaining: 11

Green bar goes up again}

~green bar stops moving, transfer speed rate stops changing for 4-6 secs~

and so on

I've had this problem once like.. a year ago, but I somehow managed to fix it back then, I can't remember how tho ):

P.S. I have 2 external HDDs, each worked fine until yesterday. This problem only occurs when putting data on the external HDD, not when copying data from it.

Thanks in advance,
ChrissSpirit

The error message can relate to a dirty, badly scratched,or that part of the disc is warped.I would start with cleaning the disc and trying again.

I've had this problem forever : when copying files using the file manager the process bombs out and says : "Cannot Copy - access denied. Make sure file is not in use or copy protected...etc", and the entire copy process is abandoned because of one file (which was not copy protected anyway).

Can this be avoided ??: Am i doing something wrong ? How do i avoid this ??

Answer:Problem Copying files

What is the file? just out of curiosity[It could be in use and therefore read-only], and you're trying to copy it not cut it yeah[so it's probably not that]?

A few things to check, what type of file is it? and what programs use it?
Check the properties of the file(For read-only/system settings)...
Also check who has user privelages for it? I had a problem like this before in which my user privelages were erased and only the system user had privelages to view/modify files... Also check the privelages of the folder you're trying to copy them into (if that's read only that would be a problem) sorry i'd give you details on how to do all this but i'm on vista and they would be innaccurate... All i can give is right click-> properties and have a nice long look through everything for the source files and the destination folder

Cheers,

I usually go to my desktop and in the video task I would click copy this file and wait for the cd writing wizard to appear and take it from there. But now the copy this file is not on my video task, just the play all and get picture from camera and scanner for my printer. I tried to copy this file from the files and folder task and got an error message. I went to trouble shooting and it advised me to go to the administrative tools section click on services and then imapi cd burning com service and right click properties. From that to change setting to automatic then click start then ok.
Well after doing all that I can at least use my sonic recorder to burn audio files but still no luck in copying my other files to a cd.
I tried to copy files from the files and folders task but it ask me the place where I want to copy my cd. I click my cd drive and it gives a ' please insert disk into drive d' It acts as if there is no blank disk in the drive. I tried system restore and got no where.
All this trouble started after I put a brand of cd-rw I never used before to burn some audio files from my sonic recorder. I own a dell 3000 pentium 4, window xp.

Answer:Problem copying files to cds

Try using Sonic to burn data files to a cd. There should be an option to create a data disc. Then give it the filenames you want to copy.

Hi

I have just built a new PC using mostly new parts and some from my original PC.

The spec is:

Asus P5K mobo
E6850 Core2Duo processor
2Gb Crucial Ballistix RAM
700W Power supply
1 x SATA 80Gb Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 boot drive
1 x SATA 400Gb Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 data drive
1 x SATA 300Gb Maxtor data drive
1 x IDE 200Gb Maxtor data drive
I am running XP Pro with all the service packs.

I have a new SATA 400Gb Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 as one of my data drives, and this is split into 2 partitions. I have further data drives also installed.

I can move and copy files from all partitions and drives apart from 1 partition on this Seagate drive. When I try to move a file from this drive, it copies the file, but hangs before deleting the original copy. Windows seems to be holding onto the file, because if I then try to shut down the PC, I get a message saying that Windows is currently processing a file and cannot shut down. I have to reset the PC to get it to restart.

If I try to copy a file from this partition and then delete the original, it works fine. I can move files into this partiton, but not from it.

It works as it should in safe mode....some sort of driver issue ?

I doesn't seem to be a physical problem with the drive as I can copy a file and then delete it.

This all seems a little wierd, I have built a number of machines but not come across anything like this before.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

Thanks

I am having a weird problem...for some reason I am not able to copy some files from a data DVD that I burned. I have a series of folders on this DVD, and I am only having a issues with copying this one folder. I do not have problems copying files from any other CDs or DVDs. The folder that I am trying to copy contains a series of music album folders. When I try to copy the folder with all the folders in it, I get this error: "Cannot copy file: cannot read from source file or disc." I have researched this error and nothing comes up that matches my scenario. The problem is likely that it is Russian music with Russian folder titles. The folders with Russian characters in the title are replaced with (????) and I cannot enter these folders. Explorer says that the folders are empty. It probably has something to do with the fact that the folders had Russian characters in them, which may have caused a problem during the burning process. I have Russian and Cyrillic languages installed for non-unicode programs. The disc is perfectly clean, so I have no idea why there would be any problem. Thanks in advance.

Hi all, I'm trying to transfer all my data from my old Windows XP PC to the new Windows 7 PC. What I did is I removed the main OS drive from my old XP machine and I connected the XP drive to the WIndows 7 PC as an external drive. I then copy/pasted all of the XP contents to a folder in the 2nd internal drive of my new Win7 PC. The "Documents and Settings" folder of the XP drive is about 11GB but it will transfer only 5GB to the WIn7 PC because for some folders/files it will say:"You do not have permissions to modify this folder/file". I'm using Win7 as administrator with full rights and disabled UAC. I also tried to go to properties/security settings for the folder I'm trying to move without success. Any suggestions? Thanks.

I've been living with this bsod for some months now... soon after building my pc. At first I thought it was a spontaneous reboot until I discovered how to stop the system from rebooting on bsod. I discovered that I could repro the problem by copying huge amounts of files from one drive to another (200 G plus). It usually took 1-3 hours but it would eventually fail. I tried swapping out HDD's and reproed the bsod on both drives so I ruled out the drives. Then I ran memtest86. After running for 5 hours I noticed one memory error. I will attach a screen shot.

So my question is, would this account for the bsod? I am continuing to test each stick individually.

Answer:BSOD problem - copying many files

Hi -

Bad RAM can cause all sort of problems.

Please make sure you are running good RAM Sticks.

Take memtest. Run for 8 passes and test each stick in a know good slot for an additional 6 passes.RAM - Test with Memtest86+

 Note
Pay close attention to part 3 of the tutorial in order to rule out the faulty stick.

 Information
Errors are sometimes found after 8 passes.

Do this test overnight, before going to bed.

I have an 80 GB hard drive and a 1 TB hard drive. The main hard drive is the 80 GB, the 1 TB hard drive has 600 GB of free space on it. When I try and transfer files from the 80 to the 1ttb, it gets half way through the copying process then freezes. I have to restart the computer and then sometimes the 1 tb hd doesn't show up on the "Computer" screen or in Device Manager. It appears again after the computer has been off for hours. It just happened now and when I restarted the computer the initial white text startup screens showed the computer only "saw" the 80gb hd. When I switch on tomorrow it will recognise both. The computer is four months old, I had no problems with it until a week ago. I'm running Vista, 2 gb ram, a Gigabyte chassis/power supply. Can anybody help please?

Hey, recently i've been having a problem when trying to move ISO files from one harddrive to another. I've tried with 3 different ISO files and all come up with the same error:

"An unexpected error is keeping you from copying the file. If you continue to receive this error, you can use the error code to search for help with this problem.

Error 0x80070570: The file or directory is corrupted and unreadable."

First time I got this error i just thought something had gone wrong with the download so i deleted the file and downloaded it again. Same problem. This made me think that maybe it was just that download but now I have tried 2 other files and gotten the same error every time.
This only happens with ISO files though as in case it was the harddrive or connection issue I tried trasferring some other .avi files and they went across without problem.

Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks.

I managed to get my install working after my old post I made but for some reason, the xp install is having problems copying some of the files over.

During the installation process, where there is the blue screen .. you pick your timezone, computer name, ect .. a error message pops up saying:
Code:

An error occurred while copying file ------.
Cannot copy file to destination directory.
Click Retry to retry the operation, or click Cancel.

The error comes up multiple times pointing out random files that it could not copy over such as "mspaint.ex_" .. ect.

Does anyone know why this would happen?

It's a xp pro sp1 disk and ive used to plenty of times to reformat.

Hi,

I'm a first time poster looking for some advice.

Here's the situation:

I have two computers used for business that have a common folder named business. At one point, the files in this folder on each machine were identical (when I added the second computer I just copied the business folder from one machine to the other). Each computer is used independently and new files are saved under each computer's folder.

I then decided each month to reconcile the drives so they have all the same files. To do this, I copied each computer's folder to an external drive, then combined the files into another folder, overwriting files with the same name. I then copied the newly created "combined folder" to each machines hard drive. However, I noticed that the new "combined folder" was roughly equal to twice the size of each of the original folders even though identical files were suposedly overwritten. (I had only added maybe 100 small excel and pdf files to each computer and there is no way the file sized should have more than doubled).

After some research, I realized the folders were set as "read-only" and the identical files may not have been overwritten. Is this a possible explanation for the now huge drive space used? (Also the new folder with twice the space used up looks identical to the old one except for the 200 or so small files added. It doesn't show multiple copies of the same file).

Sorry for the long post. TIA

Answer:Solved: Help! problem copying files

Hmm, did you turn on reveal hidden files and see if there's a bunch of extra files there? Or maybe one or more large hidden files? If you open a window on the consolidated folder, and select just your visible data files and right click/properties, does it indicate they are the same size (or very close at least) as the same properties check on one or both of the unconsolidated folders?

What you're looking to do is just keep digging until you find the difference show up in a properties check (or if you just see some big extra hidden file, etc.) and keep eliminating sets of files or folders until you pinpoint the difference.

Hello,

What file system is the USB drives formatted for (FAT32or NTFS)?

To accept a file larger than 4GB the drives will need to be formatted with NTFS.

If this is the problem then the drives will need to be converted to NTFS.

When I connect an external hard drive to my laptop it takes around 3 minutes to be recognized. When it is it takes AGES to transfer anything - a small jpeg takes another few minutes and larger things like a 20MB game take forever that is if they transfer at all! My entire PC freezes, the copied files have vanished somewhere and don't show up on the drive and things that have transferred like a small photo take minutes to load up and view!
This happens with other external hard drives too so it's not a piece of damaged hardware!
I've never had this problem before - on other PCs in the past all's been fine!
The external hard drive has it's own power supply, spins up and is connected by a USB 2 port. I've tried other ports too with the same problems!
It's so annoying as I can't back up important data!

I have recently acquired a Windows 7 Professional PC running Internet Explorer 11 to replace my Windows XP machine running Internet Explorer 8 and am now encountering the following issue.
I copied my web pages to the new PC and now when I view the local html pages (not the internet version) the pages hang. Eventually I get an error message similar to...

Make sure the path or Internet address is correct.
I have a SiteMeter script in the pages and when I delete the script, the pages load perfectly. I prefer to use the Javascript version of SiteMeter so I can see where my visitors are coming from. If I try the html code, rather than the Jacvascript code, which SiteMeter offer, the issue isn’t present.
However, I don’t think the issue is as straightforward as this. I think it may be some sort of networking problem but I can't figure out how to rectify the issue. I have unplugged the Win 7 PC from the network/internet by pulling out the ethernet cable from the LAN port and then the pages load OK, even with the Javascript SiteMeter script in. I've tried this in reverse and unplugged the XP machine and plugged the Win 7 PC back in and I still get the issue. If I view a web page file which is located on the XP machine across the network on the Win 7 machine, this is OK too.

1. We have a folder with many files with different extensions (*.wav, *.mp3 and *.sib). We want to separate them all in separate folders by type.
2. We created a subfolder for the wav files. When moving the wav files into this folder, their names still appear in the original folder. So we thought we had made a copy instead of moving it.
3. But then when we deleted the wav it was deleted in both places, as if they are pointing to the same file. Very strange. Even if we inadvertently created a shortcut, deleting the shortcut should not delete the file, right?
4. So we copied everything in a different folder with a different name. Did the same as above - no problem, everything worked fine. We could delete files in one directory and not in the other.
5. The next step was to delete the offending directory completely and then renaming the copy to the old name
6. Guess what -- the problem returned. What the heck?!

Anybody have any idea what is going on? The directory is part of a larger structure that has a certain naming convention so we'd like to be able to use the original name to preserve the logic of the structure. Why is this problem connected to the name of the folder?

As far as we can tell the problem does not occur with the *.mp3 or *.sib files. It must have something to do with the *.wav extension, but why only... Read more

Answer:Windows Explorer problem with copying wav files

It sounds like you created a "Shortcut" in the second folder instead of doing a "Copy". When you deleted the .wav in the first folder, the "shortcut" was also deleted. If you need to get the ones you deleted back, go into the "Recycle Bin" and it should still be there. If you want the files to be moved from the first folder to the second folder and not show in the first folder, use the "Cut" command.

Hi all
I have just found Robocopy and it seems the perfect tool for what I am trying to do....
I make an incremental Backup on one of my PC's (Called Server-PC) every day using AOMEI backupper and I want to mirror that folder on my main PC I have been fiddling with Robocopy for hours now have Googled everything I can think of and can't find out what I am doing wrong.

First of all I Mapped my E:\ drive on My Main PC onto my Server-PC and called it Z:
Using this script --- robocopy "D:\AOMEI" "Z\ServerDriveCopy" /R:5 /s /purge /COPYALL as a test I Get
Source : D:AOMEI\
Destination : C:\Users\mike\Desktop\Z\ServerDriveCopy\

It starts and then says "There is not enough space on the disk" There is still 700gb empty on the disk! I have checked if Quota's have been enabled and they haven't so can't work this out!

I just found out there is a GUI for Robocopy so I tried that and made a slightly different script:
robocopy "D:\AOMEI" "Z:\ServerDriveCopy" /MIR /S /V /NP /Z /R:10 /W:30 (The only difference is the colon after Z !
and that goes MAD keeps repeating in the cmd window forever but no error message and no files get copied.

So I tried it without using the mapped drive which gives me :
robocopy "D:\AOMEI" "\\Main\e\ServerDriveCopy"
and that says "Access Denied" !
I can drag and drop files in explorer OK so I am stumped.

If any one can help I would be very grateful
Mike

Hi, a have a floppy drive problem.Every time i try to copy a file to my floppy i get an error message saying: "Cannot copy [file name]: The drive cannot find the sector requested". I did try formatting the disk a copying the file again but it didn't help. Besides knowing that it's a 3.5 inch floppy, i don't know anything more about my floppy drive because in device manager it just says "Standard floppy disk drive".I just want copy this file to the disk, Can somebody plz help me?

Answer:Problem with copying files to a floppy drive?

If you've tried several different floppy disks and always get the same result/error message, it may very well be your drive is frapped. Luckily, they're cheap and easy to replace.

I am trying to run a batch file to copy the Outlook.pst file to One Drive folder when the system starts, so that it is backed up all the time. For ages I haven't use DOS command.

I tried in the command prompt the following when the file of the same name was not already at the destination folder.

C:\Users\%username%>copy "C:\Users\%username%\Documents\Outlook Files\Outlook.pst" C:\Users\%username%\OneDrive\Outlook
Sometimes it copied straight away and exited

Sometimes it copied but hung there and I couldn't see any prompt waiting for response. When I hit Ctrl-C, it exited and the file already copied would be deleted.
I have also tried the following command but didn't make any difference.
C:\Users\%username%>copy "C:\Users\%username%\Documents\Outlook Files\Outlook.pst" C:\Users\%username%\OneDrive\Outlook /Y

Hello, when copying files to any usb drive or stick, I often (but not always) get an error message: 'The semaphore timeout period has expired'. When this happens, windows explorer just freezes till I disconnect the drive. Sometimes I can give it another go after reconnecting, but sometimes I have to restart the system as explorer won't react any more. This also recently messed up the file system on my external USB 3 drive, as it was not shut off properly.

It does not happen all the time and seems to occur randomly. Usb 2 or 3 does not make any difference. Also it happens that when trying a second time the same file gets copied without any problem. Or not.

I hope someone can give me a hint about how to get this problem solved, it's driving me crazy. I can't find anything helpful online. I already reinstalled Windows 8.1, tried different usb drives and sticks, tried different ports, but all to no avail. I am not sure since when this problem occurred, I guess somewhere between 6 to 8 months. After all this time I still don't know how to reproduce the problem, but it seems to get worse...

Please help...

I am currently trying to use the instructions from Gizmo's site to create a Bootable cd with an image of my current clean install and have all my files and other users doicuments and favorites on the disc. One of the first things I am supposed to do is copy a .iso file G_D Partion Maker to a blank Cd. Every time I try and copy the downloaded file I get the error messege that the file is not a Win32/ application and won't work. I have tried it with 3 differant partition software programs and all of them say the same thing, what should I do to correct the problem?

Answer:Solved: Problem Copying Partioner files to cd

You need to burn the .iso to a blank cd with burning software that can handle a .iso file such as Nero or Imgburn (which is free). A .iso file is an image file of a complete cd.

Hi,

Recently I started having a strange problem when downloading or copying files (any files):
My systems just hangs..while downloading (my mouse stops moving...everything stops)
But it keeps on downloading. Same thing happens when I try to copy files from my laptop
to my NAS (wireless). The system just goes to a crawl...
And then occasionally - while copying - my screen goed black and when it returns I get an error saying that my display driver has crashed. So it looks like some sort of conflict between my wireless
card and the display driver. But I don't now where to look to fix this.

I download at about 1500 - 2000 KB/s
My system is:

Dell XPS 1530 -
Windows 7
2.3GHz Intel Core 2 Duo T7500
3 GB ram
Nvidia Geforce 8600 GMT

HiCurrent iam fixing Acer aspire 5100. i installed win 7 32bit ultimate today(everything went smooth) but now when iam copying file from external hdd the whole process of copying hang(0.0mb/s), when i click cancel button nothing happen(cancelling.....). This 30gb external hdd works well with my desktop(xp sp3) i also tried on my friend desktop (win 7 64bit ultimate) and it worked well, tried to test the ext hdd and it's ok. When i use thumb drive on this laptop(acer aspire 5100) it works well(copy entire 2gb file without any issue). I believe this isn't a hardware issue, does any one know how to solve this problem? Answer:Copying process hang when copying files from

Many external hard drives come with a USB 'Y' plug for additional current to power the hard drive since not all MB's support enough current per USB port. This will appear to work perfectly on one computer with one plug, but not with another. If you have the 'Y' plug, try using both, if you are using a cord other than the one that came with it (due to length or 'it's at home'), you may need to get one with the second plug on it for that machine (unless there is a port for an external power source, then try that). You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.

Hello all,

I am preparing to go home for the holidays and I wanted to copy my music collection to my portable hard drive because I just sent my mp3 player to get repaired and it will meet me at home, with no music on it. I only keep my music in two places, a folder on my desktop and in my "my music" folder.

The folder on my desktop has roughly 5500 songs separated into album folders, and it transfered them all fine. I then went to transfer my "my music" folder which has about 7800 files separated into album folders only to get the error "cannot copy file: cannot read source file or disk." I restarted my computer and tried again with no result. I tried doing a single folder and that works but there are over 500 folders and I don't have time to do each one. I can't do more that 5-10 folders at a time and sometimes that doesn't work either and I don't undertand why. Is there something I can look for to know what the problem?

Any and all help would be appreciated.

Thank you in advance.

Since upgrading to Windows 10 I can't open html files stored on an external pendrive. The files are the originals of a website. Other sorts of files don't seem to be affected
The online versions of the web pages work fine, and copies made from the pendrive to my hard drive will open fine too.
But if I click on the originals on the pendrive I just get a blank browser window (Edge) or my usual homepage (Chrome).
I've tested this with two different pendrives to see if the pendrive could have developed a fault, but with the same result, no webpage, just a blank browser window or my usual homepage.
I've tested the pendrives on a non-windows 10 computer, on which they work fine - clicking the icon opens the file in my usual browser.
Is there something obvious I'm missing? Any suggestions welcome!

I'm using Windows 7 Home premium. I have a lot of files on my pendrive, and have never had any problems until yesterday. All of a sudden my laptop won't recognise my pendrive, it tells me it is empty or, when I do actually manage to see the files and folders stored on it, it will not open them. When I check properties, I'm told the disk is completely empty. I have three different USB ports on my laptop, and yesterday one of them did allow me to access the pendrive, but today it won't and I get a message telling me to format the disk.
I've seen various solutions to this type of problem offered on the internet, but none of these work because when I use the cmd command and then type in the drive, I'm told it doesn't exist or cannot be found.
Can someone please help me????
Florio

Answer:URGENT!! full pendrive is apparently 'empty' and I cannot access files

You can try this. Put in the pendrive, let it *attempt* to load. Then instead of going to windows explorer, go into Control Panel -> Device Manager (as admin). You see my picture, open up those sections and look to see if you see any yellow or grey triangles next to any of the items, in fact I would open up each section and look just in case. This is to see if all your drivers are working. Report back. I will try to help if this does not work.

Question: Pendrive problem

Hello

Today, i bought myself a 512mb pendrive, i wanted to use it, windows recognized it as a removable drive without any problems, so i drag-n-dropped a file onto the drive window, but it froze at 30 percent

Ive tried rebooting but no change, the files were still freezing at 20-50 percent

Ive tried to disconnect, and then connect my pendrive, but this also didnt work

I went to a friend of mine to see if this is because of a badly manufactured pendrive, but at his place everything seems to work out ok

Now, im quite a newb to computers, so if you guys could hook me up with any solutions do this, id be very thankful

My system is winxp sp1

Answer:Pendrive problem

first i would say, get sp2 and all the updates, and you'r sure you have no bugs, i would try to copy one file using xp right click. can't get much in 512mb.but clean temps. defrag, run chkdisk, unplug it, restart, nothing else running, try again.

Answer:USB pendrive problem

hum; sad to say, it may all be lost. XP has not been kind to USB Flash drives.
The typical user error is to unplug the device without using the Safe To Remove
feature OR its brother right-click-->menu-->Eject

ALL USB Flash devices are formated FAT32 so you might try mounting it on
some other kind of system (Mac / Linux)

I'm having a problem "finding" my music files after I moved some files around on the computer between users.

My simple solution was to copy them to an external HD and the re-load them so I searched for all music files then selected all and attempted to copy them to the external HD, but I got an error message: "cannot copy file.cannot read from the source file or disk".

What have I done and how do I solve this?

Thanks for any help or suggestions

I have a PC with Windows XP SP2. Also have an IPOD and its software loaded on the computer.

When I reansfer files from my Nikon camera SD card (they start as jpeg files), the automatically are converted to Quicktime files.

I have no problem opening them with MS Office Picture Manager or picture viewer.

Problem is when I want to share with friends and email them and they cannot open them.

How do I stop my computer from changing file extensions (type) when I copy jpegs to my hard drive.

If I can find out how to stop the changes, then I need to go and convert extsting files back to jpeg (several years of pictures).

HELP!!!!!

Hello There,

I have a Toshiba Satellite L300-11F laptop, using XP Professional w/ SP3 on it.
It comes with 3 USB ports.
I have an older 1GB pendrive and just recently purchased a Maxell 16GB pendrive.
The pendrive works flawless at work, desktop pc but does not seem to work with the laptop.

I managed to use it only once, since then the laptop USB port simply does not recognize it.
I can tell it as the red led is not flashing and the pendrive can not be accessed.
I tried using the supplied Toshiba USB hub, no luck either

The 2 USB ports are ok as I use mouse, digital camera with it.
So is the 16GB pendrive, it works perfectly using other machines eg desktop pcs

Am I missing some USB drivers or whats the problem ?
Please help as I need to be able to use the unit on the laptop too.

Thank you!

I`ve got a problem with Kingston 8Gb pendrive. I plug it in at home (Windows 7) and it works fine. When I plug it in at work (W7 as well), I cannot copy some files. From what I see it stucks at 1.5Gb and when I try to copy more files (regardless of file size) it says that the device is full. Any ideas?

Answer:kingston pendrive problem

Try to format it as NTFS and use it like that instead.

But after inserting it in my laptop, windows is showing its capacity as 145Mb after initial formatting.Reformatting the drive dosent solved the issue. Can anyone please help?

Answer:Problem with Kingston 8GB Usb pendrive

Are you confident that you have a genuine 8gb unit, have you ever filled it with data ?
There are lots of fake/counterfeit units running around on ebay etc that are engineered to look like they have a larger capacity than they actually do

I use dell laptop N5010 with windows 7. I bought new pendrive sandisk cruzer blade. every time when I connect it to my laptop it does not appear in my computer. But it appears in devices and printers in control panel. There it shows option of brows files. when i select that i get option of Removable disk H which is faint in color which means i can not use it. If i uninstall drivers of pen drive and reconnect it then it installs driver automatically and work properly. But next time same problem occurs. Each time i need to uninstall driver. this problem was not there with my transcend pendrive. Please guide me.

Answer:problem with working of pendrive

I usually remove all bundled autorun software that comes with pendrives. If you format it clean wiping out the sandisk autorun software that is wasting space on it anyways, you may be able to fix this.

HI,
There is a solution for Pendrive not detecting or usb drive not visible in My computer and device manager.
Recently I had a problem with Sandisk Cruzer Micro 4 gb pendrive. When I inserted the pen drive the system is detecting but it is not visible in Windoes explorer and device manager. But it is working in other computers. So it is not damaged or virus infected. If you Open Disk management there you will find your pendrive without any drive letter.
Here the problem is not with the pendrive, it is with the system. To resolve this I tried in many ways and installed driver detecting softwares, but there is no use. Finally I succeeded in the following method.
The problem occured because unexpectedly the drive was un-mounted.
1) To solve you should have Administrator privilages on your local system.
2) Later go to Local security policy select Local policies in that select Audit policy and select Audit object access and check Success and apply.
3) From RUN, type diskpart and right click on it and select Run as Administrator
4) At the DISKPART prompt, type automount press enter
next type recover press enter
next type rescan press enter and exit
5) In Device manager under storage devices find your device not recognized and uninstall it.
6) Unplug the device and plug it again then the driver automatically installs and it is mounted to your computer. You will get the autoplay window.
Thats it.

Answer:Solution for pendrive not visible problem

This is the only and unique one that was worked!!!n awsome!!
how did u found it???

Hello there,

I'm having problems with my pendrive and windows7.

When I connect it, it is allright. I can read it, view all files, copy them from pendrive to HDD, delete them, etc.

The problem occurs when I try to write some file. Windows start to copy it but in the middle of the transfer it crashes and says me that my Pendrive is no longer connected. I have to disconnect my device and reconnect it to get it "work" again.

I read a lot of threads about this issue but I can't solved it. Please I need help.

I'm using Windows 7 RC Build 7100 on my HP TX2 1020us. I don't know what drivers could help.

Thanks in advance

Hi!
First of all my English is not perfect and I'm new here. The problem is with my friends notebook. Her laptop got infected probably from pendrive. She only has MBAM and sent me 2 screens what could it be. When she plugs other pendrive the only thing she can see is shortcut, and sometimes when she plug pendrive (not always) MBAM show info about virus/infection.

Answer:Problem with pendrive, Gamarue infection?

Hello and welcome to Bleeping Computer Win32/Gamarue is a worm that spreads via emails and flash drives. You will need an antivirus to detect it - Malwarebytes Anti-Malware is not meant to be used against worms.Due to the nature of this infection, I must warn you of the following...Looking through your logs I noticed that your machine is infected with a backdoor Trojan. They allows hackers to remotely control your computer, steal critical system information and download and execute files. If you do any banking or other financial transactions on the PC or if it should contain any other sensitive information, please change all your passwords on a known clean and secure machine, and it would be wise to contact those same financial institutions to apprise them of your situation.Though the trojan has been identified and can be removed, because of it's backdoor functionality, your PC is very likely compromised and there is no way to be sure your computer can ever again be trusted. Many experts in the security community believe that once infected with this type of trojan, the best course of action would be a reformat and reinstall of the OS. Please read these for more information:How Do I Handle Possible Identify Theft, Internet Fraud and CC Fraud? When Should I Format, How Should I ReinstallWe can still clean this machine but I can't guarantee that it will be 100% secure afterwards. hi... got a used dell inspiron 2400(dimension) for $65 off of craigslist. it has a wd drive (150-200gb?) and xp and it works.
my old computer is an hp pavilion, with a wd caviar 320gb hd with xp pro sp2. i want to use the larger drive on the dell as master.

what i was thinking, is that i can put the small drive as slave on the hp, copy my files to it, see if they work on the dell, then format the large drive, put it as master on the dell, and reinstall xp. then, slave the small drive to copy over the files again.

if there's a better way, please let me know. i'm using the large drive on hp pavilion until i can find a reliable way to transfer files.

btw, i would also like to know if there's a trick to get the copied files working smoothly with a fresh xp.

Answer:copying files to another drive, format 1st, then replace files

If the goal is simply to use the larger drive as a boot drive on the other system...seems to me that simply deleting everything on the larger drive...then cloning the smaller drive to it...then replacing smaller with larger...accomplishes that.

Once convinced that the clone waas successful and boots, then I would delete everything on the smaller drive and re-partition it, using it for storage capacity.

There are various programs to do this sort of cloning, including EASEUS Partition Master Home Edition freeware. - http://www.partition-tool.com/personal.htm . As with any program...read the instructions for use before attempting to use.
